Quote of the Day - October 26, 2011
"I know, sir, how well it becomes a liberal man and a Christian to forget and forgive. As individuals professing a holy religion, it is our bounden duty to forgive injuries done us as individuals. But when [to] the character of Christian you add the character of patriot, you are in a different situation. Our mild and holy system of religion inculcates an admirable maxim of forbearance. If your enemy smite one cheek, turn the other to him. But you must stop there. You cannot apply this to your country. As members of a social community, this maxim does not apply to you. When you consider injuries done to your country your political duty tells you of vengeance. Forgive as a private man, but never forgive public injuries. Observations of this nature are exceedingly unpleasant, but it is my duty to use them."
- Patrick Henry (1736 - 1799)

 | Yes, we can (Reagan Remix) v2.0 |
It takes more than a pretty video and a bunch of celebrities singing to make a great president. It takes a person who understands where the true greatness of America lies.
Long before anyone ever heard of Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan challenged Americans to hope, to dream, to believe....
In themselves.
He brought change. He told us "yes we can". Except he also told us we didn't need government to do it. He inspired us with his words and his actions. He showed us that our individual liberty and creativity is what makes our country great not any government program.
Today, Americans are wowed by the empty oratory of politicians who promise nothing but failed socialism in disguise. Even the presumptive Republican nominee cloaks himself in the mantle of Reagan but has shown that he doesn't understand Reagan's philosophy.
Reagan was an idealist AND an ideologue. His policies were based in his rock solid conservative ideology. That doesn't mean he never compromised. But compromise is something different than standing on the same side of an issue with those who are supposed to be your political adversaries.

How a Sonnet Made a Statue the 'Mother of Exiles'
The New York Times | By SAM ROBERTS | October 26, 2011

"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!"
cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your
poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
-Emma Lazarus, 1883
When the Goddess of Liberty was given to the United States, its donor's agenda was to burnish France's republican roots after the oppressive reign of Napoleon III and to celebrate the two nations' commitment to the principles of liberty.
The only immigrants mentioned at the dedication in 1886 were the "illustrious descendants of the French nobility" who fought on behalf of the United States against Britain during the American Revolution.
But it was the words of a fourth-generation American whose father was a wealthy sugar refiner and whose great-great-uncle welcomed George Washington to Newport, R.I., that almost single-handedly transformed the monumental statue in New York Harbor into the "Mother of Exiles" that would symbolically beckon generations of immigrants.
Emma Lazarus's poem only belatedly became synonymous with the Statute of Liberty, whose 125th birthday as a gift from France will be celebrated on Friday by the National Park Service.
Lazarus's "New Colossus," with its memorable appeal to "give me your tired, your poor," was commissioned for a fund-raising campaign by artists and writers to pay for the statue's pedestal.
But while the poem was critically acclaimed - the poet James Russell Lowell wrote that he liked it "much better than I like the Statue itself" because it "gives its subject a raison d'être which it wanted before quite as much as it wants a pedestal" - it was not even mentioned at the dedication ceremony.
Finally in 1903, after relentless lobbying by a friend of Lazarus who was descended from Alexander Hamilton, himself an immigrant, it was "affixed to the pedestal as an ex post facto inscription," the art historian Marvin Trachtenberg wrote.

 NOT YOUR FATHER'S AMERICA
Look who's deciding American court cases
Many being decided by edicts from Muhammad Posted: October 25, 2011
By Michael Carl © 2011 WND
Islamic law, or Shariah, already is being applied in the U.S. court system, according to an extensive new report.
A recent Center for Security Policy study called "Shariah Law and American State Courts: An Assessment of State Appellate Court Cases outlines dozens of cases in which the Islamic system of law has been applied.
Center spokesman David Reaboi said the Islamic strictures are being carried out mostly in cases in which foreigners are the principals.
"Shariah enters U.S. courts through the practice of comity to foreign law," Reaboi explained. "This happens, for example, when a judge decides to allow the use of say, Pakistani or Saudi family law (Shariah) in a dispute between Pakistanis or Saudis."
He said the study only scratches the surface of Shariah's presence in the nation. Read more: Look who's deciding American court cases http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=360081#ixzz1bujf9Om4

I urge you to stand with me and co-sponsor my new legislation, "American and Pennsylvania Laws for Pennsylvania Courts." This legislation protects the individual constitutional rights of the people of Pennsylvania from the incursion of foreign laws, in cases in which the application of a foreign law or foreign legal doctrine would violate someone's constitutional rights. Go here to see the full document . . .: Our constitutional rights and founding principles of freedom should not be abridged by any offshore entity, including and especially those who would promote Sharia law. Once before on June 19, we asked that you contact your elected representatives and urge them to co-sponsor a bill to prohibit foreign law from consideration in any and all cases in our state courts. You were very responsive and there are now 21 co-sponsors on the bill! Listed below are the co-sponsors to date. if your rep is not on the list, kindly contact him/her even if it's the second time, by taking the 3 action steps below. The more co-sponsors the bill has the more likely it is that the legislators will vote affirmatively to pass it into law. It is significant what Rep. Swanger's office said when sending us the list of co-sponsors : "I feel a lot of them co-sponsored because of the message that was sent out by you to contact the Reps about this legislation. A lot of district offices & Harrisburg offices called or e-mailed right after that was sent out." Here's the list: Kerry Benninghoff Scott Boyd Dom Costa Tom Creighton George Dunbar Frank Farry Neal Goodman Seth Grove Kate Harper Dick Hess Scott Hutchinson Rob Kauffman Daryl Metcalfe (asked to be listed as a 2nd) Carl Metzgar Scott Perry (asked to be listed 3rd) Rick Saccone Stan Saylor Curt Schroder Jerry Stern Dick Stevenson Will Tallman Here are the action steps: 1. read the attached letter from Rep. Swanger, which went out in early June to all PA House members 2. visit, or call, your representative and ask him/her to call Rep. Swanger's secretary, Lily Horst, 717-787-2686, or email her at lhorst@pahousegop.com to be added to the list of the bill's cosponsors 3. timing: please move quickly, as they may be getting to the next step (obtaining a bill number). Make contact, and gain their commitment, by August 1. Having many co-sponsors on a bill, as you know, will help build momentum in the right direction quickly. Thank you for your efforts. Signed, your Legislative Focus Group American and Pennsylvania Laws for Pennsylvania Courts
Sincerely, Sarah Hart Chapter Leader, ACT! Pittsburgh ACT! for America Chapter |
CALLING ALL PATRIOTS - PLEASE SEE MESSAGE BELOW AND PLEASE MAKE THESE CALLS!!!!
PHONE LIST AND TALKING POINTS - HB 934 VOTER ID
PASSED BY THE HOUSE, STUCK IN THE SENATE!!
IT IS SITTING IN THE STATE GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE
WE HAVE A REPUBLICAN SENATE, A REPUBLICAN HOUSE, AND A REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR BUT NOTHING MUCH IS GETTING DONE. WHY??
VOTER ID WILL ASSURE THAT YOUR VOTE WILL COUNT AND HELP ELIMINATE MULTIPLE VOTES, DEAD PEOPLE VOTING, AND OTHER ILLEGAL VOTING. 14 OTHER STATES HAVE PHOTO VOTER ID AND 14 STATES HAVE VOTER ID (NO PHOTO). WE KNOW THAT IN BOTH GEORGIA AND ALABAMA VOTER PARTICIPATION INCREASED SINCE PHOTO VOTER ID PASSED. WE ARE ONE OF THE ONLY DEMOCRACIES IN THE WORLD WITH NO UNIFORMLY REQUIRED VOTER ID. THE UNIONS DO NOT WANT IT AND THE ACLU DOES NOT WANT IT. YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF WHY WOULD ANYONE NOT WANT VOTER ID?
EVERY ILLEGAL VOTE STEALS THE VOTE OF A LEGITIMATE VOTER.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE ALL CALL THESE KEY SENATORS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK EVERY WEEK. PUT THE PRESSURE ON TO PASS IT!!

The General Wayne Tea Party
Serving portions of Montgomery, Chester and Berks County
NEWS RELEASE
The Greatest Scam in American History?
Public Invited to Learn About the Financial Crash and Whodunit on November 1st
King of Prussia, PA (October 25, 2011): It was caused by corrupt legislators that our fellow citizens put in office. It was caused by their partners, the large, immoral financial institutions who were given an open door to wealth. It was caused by regulators who were prevented from regulating.
Tens of millions were made by those in charge; tens of thousands donated to complicit politicians, Hundreds of billions were lost by ordinary Americans. Members of both political parties were involved. All have escaped any consequences.
The November 1st meeting of The General Wayne Tea Party begins to get to the bottom of the crash. Phil Duffy has performed an exhaustive review based on recently published sources, and will present his findings. He names names, explains who did what, and when. The scope of the corruption is almost overpowering, and Phil lays it all out in gory detail. And he'll provide a handout, a single page listing the shameful dealing and double dealing that has nearly brought our country to its knees.
Phil Duffy is a graduate of Rutgers University and majored in International Business and Economics at NYU's Graduate School of Business. After service in the U.S. Army, Duffy spent much of his career in marketing, information systems and management consulting, with such firms as GE, McDonnell-Douglas and Coopers & Lyabrand. While with GE, he analyzed health care legislation, regulation and systems, including the UK's National Health Service.
A resident of West Chester, he currently teaches The Constitution and Bill of Rights for Widener University's lifelong Learning Institute and will teach a course on economics (Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?) for this program in the spring of 2012.
This meeting will be held on November 1st at the Bear Rock Café, 192 W. DeKalb Pike (Route 202), King of Prussia, PA. Meeting begins promptly at 6:00 P.M. and concludes at 8:15 P.M.
The meeting is free, is open to the public, and the press is invited

The Kitchen Table Patriots
are proud to join with
The Philadelphia Loyal Opposition
and Eagle Forum in support of
Al Schmidt (Only) for City Commissioner on Nov. 8th!

October 2011
Dear Philadelphia Eagle,
You live in a spot where there will be an election this year on Tuesday, November 8 that could affect the national election next year in a big way. You will have the opportunity to vote in a special election that will have implications on every other office in the United States - from your local neighborhood to the White House.
This is the election for Philadelphia City Commissioner. Those are the officials who are in charge of running fair and honest elections in Philadelphia. You and I know that our candidates cannot win unless we have honest elections. For years, we've heard the same complaints about unfair elections, politicking inside the polls, voter intimidation, poll watchers denied access, and much more.
I urge you to vote for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner on Tuesday, November 8 because we know we can count on him to fight for fair and honest elections. Philadelphia has three Commissioners, but no more than two can belong to the same political party. That means two Democrats and one Republican will be elected.
I urge you to vote ONLY for Al Schmidt (Press #119) - even though your ballot instructions will probably say "vote for two." You are absolutely NOT required to "vote for two" - you have a right to vote for only one, and that is the only way to assure that Al Schmidt will be elected. Also, do NOT vote a straight Republican ticket because that will automatically cast your ballot for both Republican candidates, only one of whom can win. If you have any questions, call PA Eagle Forum President Ned Pfeifer, 412-973-0502.
Al Schmidt is eminently qualified to be a Philadelphia City Commissioner. He is a former Senior Analyst for the non-partisan U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) - the investigative arm of Congress. There, he conducted oversight of government agencies, programs, and policies to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement anywhere that federal taxpayer dollars are spent. After leaving GAO, Al ran for City Controller and earned a reputation as an outspoken advocate for good government.
Al Schmidt has the skills and commitment to clean up the City Commissioner's Office and give us honest elections in Philadelphia. This can be decisive in how Pennsylvania will go in the important 2012 elections, and maybe even how the U.S. will go.
I urge you to vote on Tuesday, November 8 for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner - and vote ONLY for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner. Press #119. This could be more important than any vote you cast next year.
Faithfully,
Phyllis Schlafly
P.S. Please tell ten of your friends to be sure to vote ONLY for Al Schmidt (Press #119) on Tuesday, November 8. This is a crucial election for Philadelphia, for Pennsylvania, and for America. |

I am reaching out to you in hopes of gaining your support. I have taken the liberty of attaching a PDF recounting a compelling story which I contributed to with the team at the Chester County Hero Fund (501c3).
For the last year, I have been training for the Marine Corps Marathon, which I will run on October the 30th (just shy of my 68th--birthday) in D.C.
I'm running to raise money to build an accessible home for Jay Raffetto a wounded Marine. Jay graduated from Conestoga H.S. with my daughter Jennifer in 2000. I always gave him positive encouragement through his parents about the virtues of military service. Jay became a medic with special operations (Force Recon, USMC) and unfortunately, last August he became a triple amputee-while on patrol in Afghanistan.
I'm asking for a donation to support his cause and I'm asking consideration for a Corporate Sponsorship as well---if possible. I think this is a compelling cause.
Please see attached PDF with instructions on the bottom of the sheet.
100% of your donation will go Jay and his wife Emily, Thanks in advance for your support of Jay, his family and our men and women in the Military.
Also please feel free to use this email and PDF to send to others you Feel might want to support this effort.
P.S. I know I can count on your help!

Welcome to Washington's Headquarters at the Moland House
1641 Old York Road, Hartsville, PA 18974
In the early evening of 10 August 1777, eleven thousand Continental and militia soldiers are marching up York Road towards the Cross Roads with Bristol Road [Hartsville, PA] on their way to Coryell's Ferry [New Hope, PA] to camp four miles across the Delaware River. General George Washington receives a dispatch from John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress, placing the 260-vessel British fleet, hauling 17,000 troops under General William Howe, fifty miles south of the Delaware Capes [May & Henelopen] on 7 August. Unsure and wary of Howe's intentions, Washington immediately halts his force to encamp around the bridge over the Little Neshaminy Creek in Warwick Township, Bucks County. Knowing the area and having ridden through only ten days earlier, he selects the substantial stone dwelling of Widow Moland as his Head Quarters on the farm north of the bridge.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Help Prevent Voter Fraud ! !
Judical Watch is Demanding Answers Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:
 | "The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2 |
But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.
We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action? True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step. For more information email info@truethevote.org or go HERE to sign up now! |

Dear Patriot,
Please join Americans for Prosperity Foundation and thousands of grassroots activists for the 5th annual Defending the American Dream Summiton Friday and Saturday, November 4-5 at the Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington, DC.
Last year, more than 2,600 of our best activists descended on Washington for the Summit to demonstrate to elected officials, government bureaucrats, and the national media that the grassroots movement is alive and well. We focused on reining in out-of-control spending and taxation, advancing sound free market public policy, and in a very real way, defending the American Dream.

2012 Presidential Candidate Selector or Obama, His Allies & Critics Matching Quiz
Politicians have already indicated their 2012 presidential aspirations. This matching quiz includes President Obama, top members of his administration, Obama's most vocal critics (Boehner, Cantor, etc.) and likely White House prospects (Palin, Pawlenty, Jindal, etc.). You may select a position for every issue, or just select issues important to you. The political figures' positions are based upon their voting records, special interest group ratings and their statements in the public record. In cases where there is no known public record or statement, these politicos are not given a score on that issue. We add candidates, revise their views and include new issues as they become known or change. Check back often for updates.

RedState Morning Briefing
For October 27, 2011
1. Student debt is a symptom of our lack of economic literacy
One of the failings of our public school systems is the lack of basic economic literacy of so many of our students. I am afraid this has infected our political discourse and policy making to a degree that is frightening and deeply disheartening. One prime example of this, are attempts to ignore basic things like supply and demand when making public policy. In my humble opinion, Democrats are guilty of this more than Republicans but a depressing amount of Republicans follow this path as well.
A good example is a hot topic these days: student debt. This is a subject I have some inside knowledge about having acquired far too much student debt in order to achieve an advanced degree from a fancy Ivy League school (fine, a MA from a MAC school, but that is beside the point).
This is also a classic example of politicians blindly declaring something a universal good and then making policy that not only ignores economic reality but undermines the economy and harms people (see, housing policy). We blithely declare that everyone should go to college and set up a system that allows anyone breathing to borrow large sums of money with no consequences or connection to reality and wonder why the system doesn't function. Soon we have millions of people with massive debt and very little to show for it.
The sad thing is that these people are now protesting in the streets and asking for what? More hair of the dog that bit them - more government intrusion and less economic reality. And it appears President Obama is happy to oblige them.
2. Stop Harry Reid's Egregious Budget Power Grab
Senate Democrats (and all other Democrats, for that matter) have not passed a budget for over 900 days, yet they are planning to come late to the game and commandeer the appropriations process. After delaying the process for over two years, Harry Reid, with the help of some Senate Republicans, is planning to expedite appropriations bills in a way that disavows standard procedures of transparency. House Republicans must rebuff this insidious plan.
When Republicans assumed control of the House earlier this year, they completed the job that Democrats refused to do regarding the FY 2011 budget. Additionally, they passed a concurrent budget resolution for FY 2012, and proceeded to complete half of the 12 annual appropriations bills. When it became clear that Senate Democrats were dithering with roll call votes and speeches, and had no intention of even passing a budget resolution, Republicans held back the remaining approps bills, in an effort to wait for the Senate to get its act together.
Now, instead of coming to the table and passing the 12 individual appropriations bills along with a budget resolution, Harry Reid is seeking to circumvent the process by using "Minibus" bills. He rightfully perceives that a 12-bill omnibus package would be politically unpopular, so he is planning to bundle the 12 appropriations bill into four minibus bills, containing three spending bills apiece.
Why does Reid want to use this awkward and obscure process for appropriations bills?
3. Public-Sector Unions To Ohio Taxpayers: We Will Bury You
With less than two weeks before the November 8th elections and with the polls leaning toward repealing SB5, it appears that Ohioans are ready to vote to increase their taxes and unemployment. Ultimately, that is a choice Ohio taxpayers will be making and fiscal self-immolation is certainly within their rights and, frankly, there are states who would be all-too happy to see Ohio's unions put the nail in the coffin there.
Curiously, though, after months of being pounded by a multi-million dollar union campaign of fear-mongering and deceptive propaganda, there seems to be very few Ohioans who know the true economic consequences of what happens when they repeal SB 5-and the unions, in their attack ads, certainly aren't telling them either.
4. Al-Jazeera and Green Peace Unite Against Keystone Pipeline
Al Jazeera, arguably the most terrorist-friendly news station after MSNBC, has offered some thoughts on the proposed Keystone Pipeline which will bring billions of dollars and thousands of jobs to the United States.
Calling it a "pipeline of poison," writer Dahr Jamail makes the case that the project will be an environmental catastrophe. Quite a shocker that the media outlet of choice in the middle east would be against something that might make us more energy independent.
5. You Can't Rely On American Cars Because American Car Makers Rely On Bailouts
The Consumer Reports Company just rated the reliability of 28 makes of automobile from around the world. No American car manufacturer scored better than 13th in ordinal ranking. Ranked on a Lickert Scale from 1 to 5, Jeep, the best American competitor, scores approximately 3.0. No American car does better than average at staying in one piece. This raises a fair question: did we really save GM and Chrysler or did we just screw the bondholders to put off the inevitable?
Much-hyped and manfully-bailed General Motors finished 22nd out of 28 world manufacturers. Their subjects over at Chevrolet performed modestly better (17th out of 28) and are currently the standard-bearers and great hope for bailout motors. Their marquis offering, The Chevrolet Cruze, has received positive reviews and is temporarily well-positioned to sell well against other small cars.
6. In Which John Tillman Plays With Fire
I understand where John Tillman is coming from. The CEO of the illinois Policy Institute has encountered a few of the occupiers and shares some concerns with them.
I've written about the common ground conservatives might find with some of the folk who've joined in the occupation cause. The Sam Adams Alliance and other groups have found that there are some in the crowd who really are just angry about feeling like the deck is stacked against them. They aren't there for punishment. They are there because they want to be able to compete.
But as I noted at the time, "Most of the common ground with most of these damn dirty communists is superficial." The more we learn about the crowds, the more I am set in that opinion.
Playing with fire is going to get Tillman and likeminded souls burned. The better approach would be to push forward the legislative proposal Tillman thinks we find common ground on. Make sure the Occupy crowd knows about and let those who share our values come out of the crowd. If we push sound policy, they'll come if they really are there.
7. An Anti-Semite?
I'm so used to being called a Zionist, among other things, I am actually shocked tonight to learn Jenn Rubin thinks this statement makes me anti-Semitic:
"A conservative friend says she's best understood as 'Likud' rather than Republican or conservative. There's nothing wrong with being Likud, but one ought to be honest about it."
I nor the friend of mine who offered that up are anti-Semitic, but it has apparently hit a nerve that I did not intend to hit and I feel I do need to apologize for that. A friend of mine explains to me that a Jewish-American might find it insulting because it suggests they put Israel ahead of the United States.
I had not thought of that when writing it and was not my intention. Where I finally had enough of Jenn Rubin was her position on Jonathan Pollard that I cannot in any way, shape, or form comprehend as being the right position. It was that position of hers and her positions on national security, terrorism, and Israel (all three of which she and I see eye to eye on) that didn't make me think twice about using the Likud comparison. Apparently I should have. Likud as a party is tough as nails on terrorism and security issues, but is liberal to left (by American standards) on fiscal and social policy, and that's what I intended by the comparison, not a suggestion of misplaced loyalty. And certainly not anti-semitism.

By Richard Landes, TELEGRAPH
One of the supreme ironies among the European moral stances has to do with their discourse on the death penalty. It is a standard trope of European contempt for the USA that it still has a death penalty, a sign of its cowboy nature and its retardation in the moral progress of nations.
And yet when that same Europe turns its gaze on the Middle East, the country they have the most contempt for is the only country in the entire region to reject capital punishment, and they have the most admiration for a country that among a widespread political culture that extensively uses torture and execution for the maintenance of public order, shows perhaps the most contempt for the lives of its own peoples and its enemies. Normally, this would not be even worth mentioning. Most people would just roll their eyes while others complain about Zionist imperialists trying to divert attention from their oppression of the Palestinians. But if you want to understand the...

By Andrew G. Bostom, The American Thinker When the final tally is completed, Tunisia's Sharia-promoting Ennahda party is predicted to garner from 30% , to as much 50% of the popular vote (an unhappy medium of 40% was projected yesterday). Indeed the expatriate Tunisian vote tally for Ennahda has already been recorded as 50%, and, regardless, on the basis of its large plurality, the party is slated to play a major role in drafting Tunisia's new constitution. The Ennahda party leader Rachid Ghannouchi gave an interview in May 2011 that elucidated, unabashedly, the essence of his disturbing Weltanschaaung. Not surprisingly his worldview hinges upon the destruction of Israel by jihad (here; translated by the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report): Ghannouchi maintains that altogether the Arab revolutions are positive for the Palestinians, and threaten to bring Israel to an end. He says that the Palestinian problem lies at the heart of the Nation , and that all... Read the whole entry

It's Not Going to be Moderate By Barry Rubin, PAJAMAS MEDIA Ladies and gentlemen, liberals and conservatives, Obama-lovers and Obama-haters, no matter what your race, creed, gender, national origin, or level of unpaid college loans, two things should be clear to all of you: First, to describe the Obama Administration's Middle East policy as a disaster-I cannot think of a bigger, deadlier mess created by any U.S. foreign policy in the last century-is an understatement. Second, the dominant analysis being used by the media, academia, and the talking heads on television has been proven dangerously wrong. That's the question at the heart of a controversy over Israel's decision to expurgate Palestinian symbols and a nationalist take on history from the textbooks used by students in largely Arab east Jerusalem. Jalal Abukhater, a high school senior who studies in Palestinian-ruled Ramallah, brought the controversy to the public eye over the weekend in the +972 Magazine website, a forum for left-of center Israelis, in an essay "Israel imposes censored Palestinian textbooks in east Jerusalem." "It's really weird. The children are the core of every society and they are trying to deface their identity to alter their history and background. "We will not be silenced" on Israel Washington, D.C. (October 24, 2011) - The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) responded today to a call from the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee, asking Jewish groups to pledge not to use Israel as a "political wedge issue" or, in the words of ADL's Abe Foxman, to "avoid polarizing debates" and refrain from questioning "the current administration's foreign policy approach vis-à-vis Israel". RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks stated in response: "An open and vigorous debate on the questions confronting our country is the cornerstone of the American electoral process. Allowing the American people to see where candidates stand, pro and con on critical issues, is the hallmark of our free and democratic political system. For this reason, the RJC will not be a signer to this pledge. "This effort to stifle debate on U.S. policy toward Israel runs... Read the whole entry »

Morning Bell: The Serious Risks of the Russian Reset
Ericka Andersen
October 26, 2011
President Obama may believe that America's "reset" policy with Russia is the correct move to cover important foreign policy bases, but the policy is deeply flawed. It puts the United States at a disadvantage we can't afford and forces us to lay aside fundamental American principles of human liberty.
The "reset" concessions are simply not worth the exchange of empty promises from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is merely a talking head for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. As Heritage's Ariel Cohen & Kim Holmes wrote recently in a memo on U.S.-Russia Relations, Putin would like nothing less than a "Soviet-like superpower prestige and status through forced nuclear equality with Washington."
The large "reset" payoff requires America put it all on the line by cutting U.S. strategic nuclear forces and engaging in missile defense talks with Russia, in addition to abandoning missile defense deployment in Poland and the Czech Republic and keeping quiet about political freedom violations running rampant throughout Russia. America may never have won the Cold War 22 years ago with policies such as these.

Latest Obama Mortgage Refinance Plan Another Dud
Undeterred by the underperformance of several previous efforts at mortgage refinancing, the Obama Administration has announced yet another plan designed to refinance the "underwater" mortgages of homeowners who owe more on their mortgage than their houses are currently worth.
However, this version of the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HAMP) has many of the weaknesses of previous versions, and it is unlikely to be any more successful. To matters worse, the cost of the refinanced loans will be borne by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which the government already controls. This will add to the eventual cost of bailing them out. So far, the two have received about $160 billion of taxpayer money that we may never get back.

Crucifixes? At a Catholic university? How about that.
Of course, at the heart of this complaint is the hope of establishing a Muslim prayer space on the campus that would be subject to different standards than the rest of the university -- a little enclave of Islamic law where its ban on the display of crosses would be "respected."
It is mentioned below that Muslim students say they like CUA because they feel "safe" and "comfortable." They are receiving the benefits of what Catholics have built at CUA, but are expecting more. They want to bend the institution to their own purposes for their own "comfort."

HOW SHOULD AMERICANS THINK ABOUT INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS?
"[The Founders] wanted the U.S. to govern itself, to practice diplomacy, and to seek to live in amity with other nations."
As a reader of the Understanding America series, you won't want to miss the newest volume, How Should Americans Think About International Organizations? Although often rooted in noble aims, international organizations like the United Nations have a long history of failing to achieve their goals. This booklet explores how America should incorporate international organizations into its foreign policy.
While America's Founders did not live in an era of international organizations, they outlined the values that should guide and inform American diplomacy today - justice, peace, and harmony.
How can Americans apply these same principles in a modern global landscape that includes organizations like NATO, the World Trade Organization, and the United Nations? What makes an organization valuable, and what role should these groups play in advancing America's interests around the globe?
Explore these questions and more in How Should Americans Think About International Organizations?, available online now.
Why Is America Exceptional? While other nations are bound by a common ethnicity, religion, or history, America's dedication to liberty makes it unique. This volume examines the significance of the United States' founding principles and why its continuing commitment to those principles matters to freedom everywhere. Read More

What Is America's Role In the World? The United States' foreign policy exists, first and foremost, to defend the independence and interests of its people. But America also has a unique responsibility to uphold and advance the universal principles of liberty upon which it was founded. Why Does Sovereignty Matter to America? The Founding Fathers understood that, if America does not have sovereignty, it does not have independence. Yesterday at The Heritage Foundation, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) led an important discussion about the Obama administration's "reset" policy towards Russia and the risks it poses for America.
Read more about this event and watch the video of Boehner's remarks on Heritage.org.
His remarks were part of a day-long conference on U.S.-Russian relations that featured Russian opposition leader Garry Kasparov and other policy experts.
In 2009, the Obama administration announced a "reset" of relations with Russia. Coming shortly after the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008, which brought U.S.-Russian relations to a post-Cold War low, the "reset" has become a centerpiece of American foreign policy. Its thinking was embodied in the negotiation and ratification of the New START Treaty in 2010, as well as in U.S. hopes that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev would be the face of a new, modernizing and friendly Russia.
In June 2010, President Obama, after lunching on burgers and fries in D.C. with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, announced that the pair has "succeeded in resetting" U.S.-Russian relations. Yet in the run-up to this summit, the administration made quite a few concessions to Moscow, such as canceling an agreement with Poland to deploy a missile defense against Iranian attack; restarting a terminated 123 civilian nuclear deal and delinking it from Russia's aggression in Georgia, and codifying a lopsided nuclear arms deal (New START) under which America must reduce its nuclear arsenal while Russia can stand pat and even upgrade their weaponry. It seemed as though vital national interests were being compromised in the rush to reset.
With Vladimir Putin looking to return to the Russian presidency in 2012, there are serious doubts a "reset" policy will occur. As such, American foreign policy must reflect American interests as well as the values that shape those interests of limited government, the rule of law, human rights, economic freedom, democratic politics, and the sovereignty of democratic nation-states.
On Wednesday, President Obama is expected to speak on the increased student loan debt burden. He is likely to propose reliefs for students struggling to make loan payments.

If I were a liberal ... |
 | Ann Coulter | If I were a liberal, I would have spent the last week in shock that a Democratic audience in Flint, Mich., cheered Vice President Joe Biden's description of a policeman being killed. (And if I were a liberal desperately striving to keep my job on MSNBC, I'd say the Democrats looked "hot and horny" for dead cops - as Chris Matthews said of a Republican audience that cheered for the death penalty.) |
Biden's audience whooped and applauded last week in Flint when he said that without Obama's jobs bill, police will be "outgunned and outmanned." (Wild applause!)
I suppose liberals would claim they were applauding because they believe Obama's jobs bill will prevent these murders. Which reminds me: Republicans believe the death penalty prevents murders! | See the full article by Ann Coulter |

Projection: It Isn't Just For Movies Anymore
Oct 26, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Emma K. Emmett, staff writer
Projection (noun pro*jec*tion [pruh-jek-shuh n] ) is a psychological defense mechanism whereby a person ascribes or accuses individuals or groups of motives, emotions or behavior which have originated in their own subconscious.
This allows the sufferer to deny any responsibility and to feel victimized by others. Taken to extreme, projection is a main component of paranoia. Paradoxically, it is the paranoid person who poses danger, because he is able to justify outrageous actions while feeling that he is at the mercy of others.
On the current political landscape, the list of examples of liberal projection bias is mighty long and getting longer. Some however, are so striking that they deserve special mention. If you'd like a glimpse into the future of what Liberals will do next, simply pay attention to the next thing of which they accuse Conservatives.

Obama's team is nothing if not creative. After running for his first term as a force of change, he's off and running for his second term as... the force of change. Don't like the last change, this will be the change from that change to a whole other change. "We Can't Wait" oddly echoes with Obama's old slogan, "We Are The Ones We Have Been Waiting For." Now after having waited for three for ourselves... we can't wait for another four years of the same thing. The problem with waiting for ourselves while waiting to vote again for the man who got us into this mess is that it means we'll be waiting a long time. But "We Can't Wait" echoes another slogan that the Obama team was extremely familiar with, the left's "We Can't Wait To Drive the Bush Regime Out." This time around Obama might have called it, "We Can't Wait to Drive Boehner Out", but it's a slogan that would have confused most people. What we really can't wait for is the next phase of the Obama campaign, which has completely swallowed any pretense at actual governing, and is just treating the business of government as the backdrop to a series of negative campaign ads.

Obama/Reid/Pelosi Want Your Last Dollar!
The Hill is reporting that Democrats on the deficit reduction "super committee" this week demanded massive tax increases AND more stimulus spending. Consider this excerpt:
"Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, presented a proposal backed by a majority of Democrats on the panel that includes trillions of dollars in tax increases. The revenue would partially cover stimulus spending for the economy, aides said. More than 50 percent of the deficit reduction in the plan would come from tax increases."
Democrats just don't get it! The super committee was charged with getting the deficit under control. What caused the deficit? Out-of-control spending. So Democrats do what comes naturally -- they raise taxes and spend even more. That formula hasn't worked yet. But doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different outcome is a classic definition of insanity.
Obama Buying Votes With Your Money
At a recent campaign event, Barack Obama told supporters that his reelection effort would not be as "sexy" as his 2008 campaign. On many college campuses, Obama's 2008 campaign was more like a cult. But after nearly three years of Obamanomics and high unemployment, the scales have fallen from many youthful eyes. Desperate to energize his base, Obama is once again dolling out tax dollars -- your money.
According to White House leaks, Obama plans to issue a new executive order enabling students to cap college loan repayments at 10% of their income starting next year. Under current law, the cap is 15%, but it was scheduled to be reduced to 10% in 2014 as authorized by Congress last year. Any remaining debts not paid off in 20 years will be forgiven, instead of 25 years as stipulated under current law.
Student loan debt has exploded in recent years. The average graduate left college in 2009 with not only a degree, but also $24,000 in student loans. Student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt and will top $1 trillion in obligations this year. USA Today reported this week that, "Total outstanding [student loan] debt has doubled in the past five years."
Now I know a lot of you reading this probably have college-age children or grandchildren who may be struggling with their student loans. I understand their pain. But no one should applaud this latest Obama scheme.
First, I'll concede that there is a lot the president can do with his executive authority. But no matter how admirable his intentions, I do not believe any president has the power to rewrite laws, which is precisely what Obama is doing by changing dates (2014 to 2012) and terms (25 years to 20 years) in existing federal statutes.
Second, Obama has offered this up as part of his dictatorial "We Can't Wait" approach to governing. But I'm not aware of this plan being included in anything Obama has sent to Congress this year. He's just accelerating some changes that Congress authorized last year.
Third, while Obama's plan might help make payments easier, it does nothing to address the cause of the problem of college debt -- skyrocketing college tuition costs. According to the Heritage Foundation, college tuition has increased 439% since 1982, more than healthcare costs. Tuition rates jumped more than 8% this year alone.
Lastly, a key demand of the Occupy Wall Street movement is free college and forgiveness of student loans. But, like credit card debt and home loans, education debt is voluntary. No one forced students to take out these loans. When you contract for a service, there is an expectation of payment. When you take out a loan, you have to pay it back. That's how businesses and the economy functions. Obama's plan makes "suckers" out of all students who have paid off their debt.
The moral hazard involved in government interference with the free market is tremendous. The idea that Big Government can wave a magic wand and make debt disappear or make jobs appear is creating a detrimental dependence that will doom our republic.
OWS Movement Turns Violent
While the "mainstream" media desperately tries to portray the Occupy Wall Street movement as representative of middle America, there is more evidence today of the radical left-wing influences behind it. Fox News reports that the disgraced community organizing outfit ACORN is actively supporting the riffraff in Zuccotti Park -- even paying homeless people $10 an hour to join the protests.
Meanwhile, across the country, the movement is creating more problems than solutions. And in some cases it is turning violent. For example:
- In Boston and other cities, officials are increasingly worried about health hazards. This week Boston police arrested two occupiers for selling heroin.
- Today's New York Post reports that OWS organizers in Zuccotti Park are increasingly frustrated that their free food is attracting the homeless, gangs and ex-cons just released from prison. Evidently, they don't want to share their free food and free sleeping bags with "vultures." OWS "sanitation volunteer" Lauren Digioia complained, "We're talking about occupying... This group is squatting here and using our resources." Perhaps there is hope for Ms. Digioia yet! Millions of hardworking Americans feel the same way about free-loading socialists.
- In Oakland, California, riots broke out yesterday after the police evicted the occupiers from their camp. Numerous disturbing videos of the violence have been posted online. In one instance, a group of police officers was encircled by a mob and attacked with water bottles and paint bombs.
Next time you hear Barack Obama or some other left-wing politician praise the Occupy Wall Street movement, ask yourself how many Tea Partiers were arrested for selling drugs? How many Tea Partiers attacked cops? How many Tea Party events ended up in full-blown riots?
These radicals do not represent average Americans, and honest Democrats know it. While the left is occupying Wall Street, we need to devote all of our resources to occupying the White House in 2013!

New Lawbreaking Allegation: Obama Illegally Pushes Green Agenda with China By Ben Johnson
|
A Republican leader in the House is accusing the Obama administration of violating a federal law designed to protect America's most sensitive technological secrets from the Red Chinese. The most extreme of Obama's czars, Science Czar John P. Holdren, so flagrantly violated the law that a one-sided Justice Department legal memorandum drawn up to exonerate him said it could defend "most, if not all" of his actions. According to Virginia Republican Congressman Frank Wolf, the offense took place when Holdren attended the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) on May 9-10. Holdren, who heads the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), took nine OSTP employees to the meeting, where they admit they met with representatives of the People's Republic of China. This violates....

Fast and Furious: Operation High Crimes and Misdemeanors By Michael Oberndorf

A reasonable person would probably say that involvement in acts that resulted in murder constitutes a high crime. It would certainly become one if the perpetrators went on to lie and cover up their involvement in that act. It has become quite clear that Attorney General Eric Holder, perhaps Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and highly likely, their boss, Usurper Barack Hussein Obama-Soetoro, were involved in just such a crime and cover-up with Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious. Even at the current level of cursory investigation - a congressional committee, rather than a special prosecutor - there appears to be undisputed evidence that....

Fmr. Member of the Congressional Black Caucus Finally Understands Why We Need Voter ID Laws By Kevin "Coach" Collins
|
In 2010, Alabama Democrat Artur Davis left Congress taking his seven percent American Conservative Union (ACU) voting record with him. As a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, he was a reliable knee-jerk liberal who voted for and against bills that would either help America's enemies or hurt the American people. While in a state of delusion, Davis believed his lifetime 22 percent ACU rating could get him elected governor of Alabama. When reality tapped him on the shoulder, Davis left elective politics and went off to be a Washington, D.C., lawyer. Given his record, it is a refreshing surprise to note his 180-degree change of heart on the question of stricter voter ID laws....

RINOs, Keep Your Mitts Off Our Party By Doug Book
|
No group had less influence on the 2008 nomination of John McCain than the conservative base of the Republican Party. Throughout the second term of the Bush presidency, Democrats and their media flacks attacked and maligned the administration and, by extension, the entire Republican Party. And as Karl Rove and George Bush had so completely and irresponsibly bought into the leftist-touted "new tone of D.C. civility," no response was made to this perpetual and disingenuous assault though it severely damaged GOP chances of retaining the White House. As a result, the only sort of nominee given a chance by party elders....

From Michele:
Last night, in a huge gymnasium, I attended the Oct. 25, 2011 Methacton School Board meeting on the issue of spending $3.5 million for 80-foot high stadium lights, two artificial turf fields, and other construction--in this terrible economy! The stage had 13 people on it peering down at me. The walk was long, and the microphone intimidating. But I did it, and four people clapped after I was done. The superintendent, administrators, school board members, teachers, parents, sports teams, and former football-playing dads want this badly and have "blanked-out" the facts: their already-high debt, that taxpayers pay for things the district wants, and the fact that the future is coming.
As one sports-loving student put it, "Who cares about the money?" Huge applause for that gem. Well, the Tea Party does. We foot the bill for all the wishes of the school districts. Our real estate taxes always go way up as a result of their foggy blanking-out about facts (debt, taxpayers, and the future). I thought it was time to clear the fog in the gymnasium.
Here is what I read aloud to a superintendent and a school board in a gymnasium filled with hundreds of people right before the final vote by the board:
"Serious financial shenanigans exist in Methacton School District's financial reports, unknown to parents and taxpayers.
The Methacton School Board has created a $20.1 million unfunded, hidden, "off-balance sheet" liability that is owed by taxpayers to former union and other employees for future benefits. This liability is known as the School District's Postemployment Benefit costs.
The details of this unfunded, off-balance sheet debt are revealed in the August 23, 2011 bond prospectus issued by the School District. The financial statements show that the total reported debt of principal and interest owed by the District is in excess of $151 million dollars. Each year taxpayers pay $10.9 Million in debt service just on that $151 million of debt. That reported debt amounts to around $156,000 for each of the approximately 5,000 students enrolled in the District.
However, buried in note 9 to the financial statement is a very troubling fact. In addition to $151 million of reported debt, that note warns investors that the District's deals with the unions and employees have created another $20.1 million in unreported, unfunded debt owed to retired employees.
Note 9 to the bond prospectus explicitly warns investors that the debts reported on school district financial statements do not include this $20.1 million in hidden debt, and, more importantly, that the District has no reserves or funding for this debt.
In essence, this "off balance sheet" debt of $20.1 million is the same type of off-balance sheet debt reporting sham that Enron used.
To put this in perspective, the bankrupt country Greece has a debt to GDP ratio of about $145%. If you take the $151 million of reported District debt and interest admitted owed, and add in the $20.1 million in hidden, unfunded, off-balance sheet liabilities, that means the District's total debt to its GDP (which is its $90 million revenue that it takes in from taxpayers) is $185%! Methacton School District is in worse shape than Greece.
Also, tax increases for the past ten years amount to a 44.9% increase, but the number of students enrolled in the District actually went down from 2007 to 2010. Yet tax increases continue to skyrocket to feed this bloated debt they have created.
Now that Methacton has the opportunity to refinance some of this massive debt at a lower rate, they want to take that money saved and spend it on other unecessary schemes instead of paying down its unfunded, off-balance sheet $20.1 million debt.
The Methacton School Board must stop this madness of constantly borrowing and taking and spending other people's money, and be honest with the debts that they have already created for us taxpayers."
Below is a link to a PDF document which shows that Methacton School District is worse than Greece's debt. Greece's debt to GDP is 145%, while Methacton's Debt to Revenue is 185%.
The public never sees these UNFUNDED PENSION LIABILITIES for teachers' retirement pay. It is time they did.

Hyosub Shin, hshin@ajc.com Atlanta Police arrest protesters at Woodruff Park on Wednesday.
Mayor Kasim Reed told reporters more than 100 officers were involved in the operation, adding the Occupy Atlanta protests, which started more than two weeks ago, had cost the city roughly $300,000.
Officers swarmed the park around 12:45 a.m. The arrests were orderly and peaceful, though some of the protesters had to dragged out. By 1:30 a.m. the park had been cleared and by 2 a.m. onlookers and demonstrators who watched from the perimeter had largely dispersed as police maintained a significant presence downtown.

Eviction scheduled for November 2012
"The president's barren jobs program has also forced him to go back to the drawing board on his mortgage program. His latest anti-foreclosure tonic merely doubles-down on failure. Stubbornly high unemployment has made it harder for people to pay their mortgages, adding to the already record number of foreclosures plaguing the economy. The housing overhang, coupled with weak demand, has depressed home values further. And now even more borrowers owe more on their mortgage than their home is worth. Obama's answer is to open up his disappointing Home Affordable Refinance Program to all underwater borrowers, a growing class of debtors who, alarmingly, now account for nearly a quarter of the nation's homeowners. HARP had been limited to those owing up to 25% above their home's value. But once people started the application process for a HARP refinance, they found out they owed more than 125% of the value of their home and couldn't qualify. Of the 11 million homes underwater, fewer than 900,000 borrowers have opted to go through HARP since the program was rolled out in 2009. Now the sky's the limit. And the administration thinks the broader plan will help the average underwater family save a couple hundred bucks each month on their mortgage payments. ... Say a borrower going through HARP decides that a few hundred bucks in monthly savings don't outweigh the tens of thousands of dollars owed beyond the value of the house. He walks on it anyway. Guess who takes the loss? Taxpayer-backed Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, that's who. Under Obama's plan, only loans guaranteed by Fannie and Freddie are eligible. The failed mortgage giants have already cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, and the price tag just keeps climbing higher. In effect, Obama is trying to keep people in homes they can't afford at the expense of homeowners who borrowed responsibly." --Investor's Business Daily
What will the president's mortgage plan actually do?

"[T]he President now says that 'we can't wait' for Congress to act. What he's missing, though, is that Congress isn't acting because the American people don't want their representatives in Washington to go along with Obama's spend-more-tax-more scheme. It seems that the only audience that might be receptive to the President's message is the protesters who are camping out in solid opposition to the capitalist system, advocating for the government to bail them out, just like it bailed out the banks and the automakers. ... One thing is certain: Regardless of the answer, America cannot wait for President Obama to stop circumventing Congress." --Heritage Foundation's Mike Brownfield
"President Obama couldn't have chosen a more fitting slogan than 'We can't wait' to promote his latest legislative elixir for our ailing economy. ... Audacious is no longer an adequate word to describe this president. He forced through his first stimulus through crisis-leveraged fear-mongering and then never really used but a fraction of that money for so-called stimulus purposes. Why would anyone still believe a thing he says? Who is he to tell us 'we can't wait' on the proper constitutional safeguards against such precipitous executive action? He is not America's king. The Framers deliberately placed safeguards in our system to prevent such capricious executive action. ... [H]e doesn't believe he needs authority, only 'noble' intentions." --columnist David Limbaugh
"For all the blood-for-oil nonsense, if America wanted Iraq's oil it could have saved a lot of blood and simply bought it. Saddam Hussein would have been happy to cut a deal if we only lifted our sanctions. ... We never levied taxes in Iraq either. Indeed, we're left holding the tab for the liberation. And we most certainly are not in political control of Iraq. If we were, we wouldn't have acquiesced to the Iraqi government's desire for us to leave. ... Some partisans will undoubtedly say that the key difference is that Barack H. Obama, and not George W. Bush, is president. But this lame objection leaves out the fact that Obama acceded to a timeline drafted by the Bush administration. Moreover, Obama has moved closer to Bush than anybody could have predicted." --columnist Jonah Goldberg

Essential Liberty"The Communists rewrite history all the time, with grand flourishes and straight faces. And many American liberals do too. ... In Massachusetts, however, it's real history that's being shoved into the closet. A Somerville, Massachusetts public school principal, for instance, has banned the celebration of Columbus Day and Thanksgiving, calling them American 'atrocities' parading under the guise of historical holidays. Her decision, motivated by a desire to spare students and school personnel the pain of feeling insulted by the celebrations, further distorts history at the expense of ever-growing victim groups. ... Now more than ever, parents need to keep tabs on the history their children are learning in school. First, check to see if your children, especially middle schoolers and high schoolers, ever have the opportunity to read original sources, like the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. ... Read historical fiction and biographies to your children, highlighting the self-sacrificing commitment to freedom shown by America's greatest leaders and heroes. ... And finally, remember that your educational choices extend far beyond one public school or an agenda-driven principal. If -- when -- the liberal indoctrination gets out of control, investigate charter schools, religious schools, private schools, homeschooling -- and consider running for your local school board." --columnist Rebecca Hagelin The Demo-goguesStraw men: "The one thing that we absolutely know for sure is that if we don't work even harder than we did in 2008, then we're going to have a government that tells the American people, 'you are on your own.' If you get sick, you're on your own. If you can't afford college, you're on your own. If you don't like that some corporation is polluting your air or the air that your child breathes, then you're on your own. That's not the America I believe in. It's not the America you believe in." --Barack Obama Math challenged: "[L]ast week, we had a separate vote on a part of the jobs bill that would put 400,000 teachers, firefighters and police officers back on the job, paid for by asking people who make more than $1 million to pay one-half of 1 percent in additional taxes. For somebody making $1.1 million a year, that's an extra $500. Five hundred bucks. And with that, we could have saved 400,000 jobs. Most people making more than $1 million, if you talk to them, they'll say, I'm willing to pay $500 extra to help the country. They're patriots. They believe we're all in this thing together. But all the Republicans in the Senate said no." --Barack Obama, questioning the patriotism of pretty much everyone Is the president's math even close, and, more important, are you feeling patriotic? Cheerleading: "This is going to be a tough election. The country has inherited very difficult political and economic times. Why wouldn't it be tough? Elections should be tough. They're tough choices. I think we're going to win." --Joe Biden Excuses: "Nobody can look you in the eye and tell you that the Recovery Act ... did not create jobs and did not do very good things for the economy. The problem was, in the beginning, the economists said that in fact we wouldn't go above 8 percent, because they didn't know until this last quarter that the economy shrunk in the last term of the Bush administration almost 9 percent. Everybody thought it was more like 5.5 percent. And so the point was, we were all operating off of what the blue chips were looking at, and the numbers were wrong." --Joe Biden "We turned the economy around. When you see 23, 24 months of consecutive job growth in our private sector and you see the president standing up today saying, look, it's not a bailout to help police officers and teachers and help people stay in their homes. These are not bailouts. These are Americans." --Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) Spiking the football: "We led from the front [in Libya]. Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Occupy Oakland erupts into violence
Van Jones stomping grounds turned fiercely violent last night as protesters refused to clear the streets they were blocking, forcing police to clear them out. Tear gas was used and sent the crowd into a frenzy. They lashed out at the police, continued to resist and the arrests started piling up. Why are there so many clashes with police this time around -- when the Tea Parties were far larger and arrests were practically non-existent? Glenn explains that and more on radio today. WATCH
