Jay Dobyns is a father, husband and 25-year highly respected and highly decorated Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Special Agent. He was the first law enforcement agent to ever successfully infiltrate multiple layers of the notoriously dangerous and violent Hells Angels motorcycle gang through "Operation Black Biscuit." He has described the Hells Angels as having their "PhDs in violence," and worked undercover in the gang for two years. Dobyns has dedicated his life to undercover service for ATF and took a bullet through the lung at one point for the agency. Luckily, he survived.

Dobyns has put a number of the nations' most violent criminals behind bars, which naturally comes with threats from those criminals and their buddies in return. After he finished his work bringing down the Hells Angels, things were no different.

Approximately a year after Operation Black Biscuit concluded beginning in 2004 through 2008, Dobyns and ATF became aware of credible and substantial violent threats against him and his family. Those threats included plans to murder him either with a bullet or by injecting him with the AIDS virus, kidnapping and torturing his then 15-year-old daughter and kidnapping his wife in order to videotape a gang rape of her. Dobyns and ATF also learned contracts were solicited between the Hells Angels, the Aryan Brotherhood and the MS-13 gang to carry out these threats.  

I urge you to stand with me and co-sponsor my new legislation, "American and Pennsylvania Laws for Pennsylvania Courts." This legislation protects the individual constitutional rights of the people of Pennsylvania from the incursion of foreign laws, in cases in which the application of a foreign law or foreign legal doctrine would violate someone's constitutional rights.

I'm running to raise money to build an accessible home for Jay Raffetto a wounded Marine.  Jay graduated from Conestoga H.S. with my daughter Jennifer in 2000.  I always gave him positive encouragement through his parents about the virtues of military service.  Jay became a medic with special operations (Force Recon, USMC) and unfortunately, last August he became a triple amputee-while on patrol in Afghanistan.

In the early evening of 10 August 1777, eleven thousand Continental and militia soldiers are marching up York Road towards the Cross Roads with Bristol Road [Hartsville, PA] on their way to Coryell's Ferry [New Hope, PA] to camp four miles across the Delaware River.  General George Washington receives a dispatch from John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress, placing the 260-vessel British fleet, hauling 17,000 troops under General William Howe, fifty miles south of the Delaware Capes [May & Henelopen] on 7 August. Unsure and wary of Howe's intentions, Washington immediately halts his force to encamp around the bridge over the Little Neshaminy Creek in Warwick Township, Bucks County.  Knowing the area and having ridden through only ten days earlier, he selects the substantial stone dwelling of Widow Moland as his Head Quarters on the farm north of the bridge.

1. Attacking Marco Rubio

The Washington Post has chosen to launch an attack on Marco Rubio because he may have gotten part of his parents' life story wrong. They put the story on the front page of the Washington Post.

Barack Obama, trying to push health care reform, screwed up details about a central story he used to get his package through Congress. Likewise, Barack Obama claimed his uncle had freed Jews at Auschwitz. It did not happen unless Obama's uncle was a member of the Red Army. The Soviets freed Jews at Auschwitz. Obama, in Selma, tried to tie his father's life story to the Kennedy family, claiming his father came to America on a scholarship from the Kennedy family. He also claimed his father fought in World War II.

In 1988, Joe Biden was forced off the Presidential trail when it came out he had plagiarized a speech by British Labor Leader Neil Kinnock. He also got wrong the tragic events of his wife and daughter's death.

All of these stories got media attention, but none have gotten as much attention as what the Washington Post gave to Marco Rubio. This shows just how much the left fears Marco Rubio.

2. Senate gives money to rich people. Where's the #OWS outrage

Late Friday, the Senate voted for an amendment to give a subsidy to rich people. Not the first time, and it won't be the last time. But is a perfect microcosm of today's politics and the politics that got us into the housing crisis. Next time any of the Senate Democrats say anything about "Occupy Wall Street", they should get asked a simple question: if you are so worried about the 99%, why are you subsidizing housing for the wealthy.

Here's what happened. Senators Bob Menendez and Chuck Schumer, who represent rich Democrats in New Jersey and New York respectively, offered an amendment to raise the amount of a mortgage that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will backstop. The level that was backstopped by Fannie and Freddie was lowered to $620k, but they raised it again to $729k. So the government will offer a loan guarantee so that people can buy a $720k house.

3. Econ. Professor Explains to #OccupyWallSt Crowd How Marxist America Will Work

Nearly a year ago, union appointees within the Obama Labor Department launched their 'Death by a Thousand Cuts' initiative on America's employers (obviously, not their name for it, but that is what it is). Since then, American businesses (large and small)-those that are America's job creators-have been under unprecedented attack by the Obama Administration and its union handlers.

Now, perhaps by coincidence, the Democrat-supported Marxists occupying city parks across the country are calling for socialism (or whatever nom du jour they want to call it, with whatever coherency they can muster on a given day). Only an idiot (or a liar) would argue that the Marxist movement is not out to destroy American free enterprise.

4. A Mea Culpa on Herman Cain and Abortion

Yesterday I wrote two posts about Herman Cain's stance on abortion, which may be read here and here. One of the good things about blogging is that it allows you to shoot from the hip, which allows instant commentary and feedback on news that the traditional media cannot provide. However, it is also sometimes one of the bad things about blogging, in that it allows you sometimes to shoot before the facts are all in. Having considered the information I received via email over the last day, I now realize that calling Herman Cain "pro-choice" was not just wrong, it was disastrously wrong, and for that I am sorry.

I have come to understand that Herman Cain has in reality done far more for the pro-life movement than I ever have. For instance, he donated $1 million of his own money in an attempt to encourage black voters to vote pro-life. His 2004 Senate campaign made life a central issue. His work opposing abortion - especially among the black population - has led many leftist organizations to denounce him with hysterical, shrieking screeds; which is probative evidence of the fact that they were to some degree effective.

5. As Obama's NLRB Drags Its Feet On Employee Charge, Former NLRB Member Drops a Boeing Bombshell

Most observers of President Obama's union appointees at the National Labor Relations Board know that the NLRB has earned its much-deserved criticisms due to its over-the-top advocacy for union bosses. In addition to the other anti-worker and anti-jobs rulings, the NLRB's effort to help the Machinists' union kill the jobs at Boeing's South Carolina plant because workers decertified the union is probably the most well known example. However, another layer of just how far Obama's union appointees will go to appease their union masters was peeled back by a recent comment made by a former member of the NLRB.

6. Paging the Missouri Tea Party: Here's One to Primary

She was elected in 1996, and is serving her 8th full term in Congress.

She believes her mission in life is to solve world hunger-whether its through foreign aid or food stamps here in this country that we can no longer afford. But if people start eating too much, well hold it right it there, because the federal government has a role in controlling obesity too.

She will subsidize anything. Tobacco, sugar, peanuts, milk, mohair, energy, Fannie and Freddie, the Postal Service, the DC metro system, small businesses, and the purchases of auto consumers (Cash for Clunkers).

Increasing the minimum wage? She is a fan. Price controls on prescription drugs? She co-sponsored the bill. Davis-Bacon? She supports it.She has voted the wrong way on almost every big bill that her party got wrong on principle since coming to Congress: No Child Left Behind, Sarbanes-Oxley, Medicare Part D, TARP (twice), multiple farms bills, multiple highway bills, SCHIP, etc.

She wants to tax the internet, voting not to extend the moratorium on internet taxation. She wants oil and gas companies to pay more in taxes and be treated differently than other companies.

Pick a fight with a liberal on:

IQ.
According to some dumbass survey, the mean IQ of adolescents who identify themselves as "very liberal" is 106, but the mean IQ of adolescents who identify as "very conservative" is 95. Yeah, and we know the real reason why that is: most of those "very liberal" adolescents are I in fact ultra-smart conservative kids who know that when you're that age the best way to get all the hottest chicks is to pretend you're some kind of tree-embracing, world-saving bunny-hugger.

Praise the Grey Lady for its principled decision in 2005 to expose President Bush's Terrorist Surveillance wiretap program. Of course, there are conservative fools who twitter on about stuff like national security, but liberals understand otherwise. Say to your liberal friend that you would rather a thousand innocent New Yorkers were blown to tiny pieces on the subway than live in a country where government attempts to eavesdrop on potentially innocent jihadists; you're so proud that the crusading zeal and moral certitude for which the New York Times is so justly renowned has made that possible.

I believe that the Turkish Islamist regime deliberately helped produce a Syrian leadership that is more Islamist and more Muslim Brotherhood controlled than was necessary. Since Turkey's government was empowered to do this by the Obama administration, the White House is responsible for this extremely dangerous situation. It is a blunder or a betrayal - in effect, the motive and cause don't matter - of the greatest dimensions. The Obama administration may "only" have paved the way for the triumph of Islamist regimes...

East Jerusalem construction scuttling two-state solution

The Left is worried. They want to preserve the possibility of a two state solution by not building on what they consider Palestinian land. They know that a peace agreement is not possible now but want to preserve the possibility until the Arabs are ready to accept it, however long it takes.

The Right is glad. The Right wants to hold on to Jerusalem as annexed, as the undivided capital of Jerusalem. It doesn't believe that a two state solution acceptable to Israel can be negotiated now or in the future.

Why should these projects or even the whole plan scuttle the two-state solution. Bush said we could keep the settlement blocs. Obama said we could swap land, They both said we could build a road connecting Gaza to Judea and Samaria so why not build another road connecting Bethlehem to Ramallah? PR campaigns work

Noam Shalit retained a PR firm to organize a campaign to bring his son home. Israel Hayom tells the story. It makes for interesting reading. It tells us how Israelis were manipulated.

It reminds me of how successful the Women in Black were in getting Israel to pull our of Lebanon. Or how successful Ruder Finn was in painting the Serbs as the Nazis and the Muslims as the victims.

But most of all it reminds me of how successful the PA has been in deligitimating and deamonizing Israel. The resources it and its friends in the Arab world invest in propaganda and media manipulation are enormous.

Many activists on the right have been calling for years for the Israel Government to take a miniscule portion of the defense budget and devote it to a sustained PR campaign. So far without success.

Naked Imperialism

Simply put, the West bombed Libya into the stone age and killed tens of thousands of Libyans for a barrel of oil. You can't make a silk purse out of this pig no matter how much you spin it.

My Thoughts on Libya

Qaddafi wasn't any worse than the barbarians that killed him and will replace
him. There are no freedom-loving democrats in the entire muslim world, which consists of seventh century minded brutes. So qaddafi will only be replaced by worse savages. The way the jihadist-enabling msm is reporting the death of qaddafi, you would think that Libya will become some sort of western style democracy rather than a sharia-ruled hell-hole which will become the latest haven for al qaeda. So why are the same people who condemned Bush's overthrow of saddam, celebrating this? The "rebels" we aided in Libya are not our friends, they are linked with al qaeda. In recent years, qaddafi had become nothing more than a loon we found amusing, rather than remotely representing any kind of a threat to us. So why was he targeted by NATO? He came out in much better shape than had been expected - which makes it clear not that Hamas has become humanitarian, but that they understood his worth to them in a trade. No Victory But Defeat

The most common justification for the Shalit deal is to wear it as a perverse badge of moral nobility. "What other country would exchange a thousand terrorists for one man." This is a close cousin of the argument that says the United States treating terrorists with kid gloves proves that it is nobler than them. Both of these insufferable arguments are symptoms of the moral decline of civilization.

If the life of a single soldier is more important than the battle, then why have battles or soldiers at all? We don't send soldiers out to fight because we think that their lives are worthless, but because the objective of war is to save even more lives than those that will be lost in fighting it. Or to preserve that liberty and independence from enemy oppression which are the qualities that make life worthwhile.

There is nothing to be proud of in a moral confusion that puts the soldier before the battle. Even less in a country whose commanders and politicians think nothing of sacrificing soldiers in order to preserve the lives of enemy civilians.

All the kvelling over Gilad Shalit would be a trifle less dishonest if the pundits, politicians and generals did not believe that sending a dozen boys like Shalit into battle without air and artillery support to avoid harming enemy civilians was also evidence of moral superiority.

If the moral equations say that the life of Gilad Shalit is worth a major national defeat and that the life of a Gilad Shalit is worth less than that of an enemy civilian, then it's no wonder that the terrorists are thriving. Israel's own idiot elites have laid out a formula under which the IDF must lose every battle to preserve the nation's morality. It's Masada as practiced by left-wing lunatics.

Once again, a Muslim leader has done something that is incomprehensible to a Westerner unacquainted with the commands of the Koran. 

For a quick refresher on the long-term relationship between Karzai and the U.S., read what Wikipedia has to say about the strong support the United States has given Karzai over the course of a decade(  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamid_Karzai ):

Karzai's relations with NATO countries is strong, especially with the United States, due to the fact that it is the leading nation helping to rebuild war-torn Afghanistan. The United States supported him since late 2001 to lead his nation. He has made many important diplomatic trips to the United States and other NATO countries.

So why would Karzai turn against the United States in this way?  The pragmatic reason is probably that Karzai sees the U.S. leaving Afghanistan while Pakistan will remain at Afghanistan's doorstep.  But it still defies common sense to think that Karzai would ditch such a strong and long-term supporter as the U.S., particularly when the U.S. has played such an instrumental role in maintaining Afghanistan's own internal security. 

The likely reason why the United States has been unable to develop any sort of lasting friendship with the people and leadership of Afghanistan, in contrast to Japan, Germany, and Italy, is the guidance of the Koran:

Today the Minneapolis Star Tribune ran a flattering profile of Alida Messinger, the top supporter of liberal causes and political candidates in Minnesota. Ms. Messinger was born Alida Rockefeller and inherited an enormous amount of money. At one time she was married to department store heir Mark Dayton, now the Governor of Minnesota. Neither of them has ever held what most people would consider a job. Despite their divorce, they remain on good terms, and Messinger has made it her personal mission to return Minnesota's legislature to DFL control:

Alida Messinger, an heir to the fabled Rockefeller fortune, has quietly given at least $10 million to candidates and causes over the past decade. Some recent gifts have been extraordinary: $500,000 to a group that last year backed her former husband, Mark Dayton, for governor. And before that, $1 million to help bankroll the ballot campaign for the Legacy amendment, which raised the state sales tax to create 25 years of new funding for conservation and cultural projects.

Now, Messinger is preparing for a new showdown that will be expensive, contentious and, for the first time, public.

Yet we know amazingly little about the Somali community, probably because we are afraid to ask the relevant questions. We know they are mostly Muslim - we can see the hijabs, we are familiar with the many local controversies to which their faith has given rise over the past 10 years - but are they loyal residents or citizens of the United States? In the conflict between the United States and the Islamist forces with which are contending, whose side are they on?

The terror trial that concluded with a raft of guilty verdicts this past week raises these questions and others. The two defendants are women who were convicted of charges including conspiracy to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization, of providing support, and of lying to the FBI. The "terrorist organization" is al Shabab, an affiliate of al Qaeda.

Dylan Spoelstra, 24, from Toronto, Canada was brought to Bellevue Hospital for psychiatric evaluation after voluntarily surrendering to the NYPD.

Spoelstra, who had been ticketed by the NYPD for public urination at 3:14 a.m., told his protestor pals that he was going to climb the bright red artwork known as "Joie de Vivre" on Broadway on the west side of Zuccotti Park. Shortly before 6 a.m., after eyeing the ring of cops standing nearby for several minutes, he dashed across the street and clambered up one of the large vertical beams, prompting an officer to call for back up.

I may well have erred in taking President Obama's statement on our impending withdrawal from Iraq at face value, as I did in "The big bug-out." It is impossible to take Obama's declaration of victory in the statement seriously, particularly in the context of Obama's evident failure to secure the immunity deal from the Iraqi government that would have allowed some American forces to stay put. In his statement announcing the withdrawal of all American forces by the end of the year, Obama portrays the withdrawal as the culminating success of his strategy. 'Twas a famous victory.

Obama is apparently availing himself of the Aiken option. George Aiken was of course the Republican Senator from Vermont who counseled Presidents Johnson and Nixon to declare victory in Vietnam and pull out. The left recalled him with great fondness as complications ensued in Iraq. This past June Toby Harnden ascribed the Aiken option to Obama's approach to Afghanistan, but it applies as well to our exit from Iraq.

To solve this problem, she comes up with a new marketing plan  that allows her customers to drink now, but pay later.
 
Heidi keeps track of the drinks consumed on a ledger (thereby  granting the customers' loans).
 
Word gets around about Heidi's "drink now, pay later"  marketing strategy and, as a result, increasing numbers of customers flood into  Heidi's bar. Soon she has the largest sales volume for any bar in Detroit.
 
By providing her customers freedom from immediate payment  demands, Heidi gets no resistance when, at regular intervals, she substantially  increases her prices for wine and beer, the most consumed beverages.
 
Consequently, Heidi's gross sales volume increases massively.
 
A young and dynamic vice-president at the local bank  recognizes that these customer debts constitute valuable future assets and  increases Heidi's borrowing limit.
 
He sees no reason for any undue concern, since he has the  debts of the unemployed alcoholics as collateral!!!
 
At the bank's corporate headquarters, expert traders figure a  way to make huge commissions, and transform these customer loans into DRINK  BONDS.
 
These "securities" then are bundled and traded on  international securities markets.
 
Naive investors don't really understand that the securities  being sold to them as "AAA Secured Bonds" really are debts of unemployed  alcoholics. Nevertheless, the bond prices continuously climb!!!, and the  securities soon become the hottest-selling items for some of the nation's  leading brokerage houses.
 
One day, even though the bond prices still are climbing, a  risk manager at the original local bank decides that the time has come to demand  payment on the debts incurred by the drinkers at Heidi's bar. He so informs  Heidi.
 
Heidi then demands payment from her alcoholic patrons, but  being unemployed alcoholics they cannot pay back their drinking debts.
 
Since Heidi cannot fulfill her loan obligations she is forced  into bankruptcy. The bar closes and Heidi's 11 employees lose their jobs.
 
Overnight, DRINK BOND prices drop by 90%.
 
The collapsed bond asset value destroys the bank's liquidity  and prevents it from issuing new loans, thus freezing credit and economic  activity in the community.
 
The suppliers of Heidi's bar had granted her generous payment  extensions and had invested their firms' pension funds in the BOND securities.
 
They find they are now faced with having to write off her bad  debt and with losing over 90% of the presumed value of the bonds.
 
Her wine supplier also claims bankruptcy, closing the doors on  a family business that had endured for three generations, her beer supplier is  taken over by a competitor, who immediately closes the local plant and lays off  150 workers..
 
Fortunately though, the bank, the brokerage houses and their  respective executives are saved and bailed out by a multibillion dollar  no-strings attached cash infusion from the government.
 
The funds required for this bailout are obtained by new taxes  levied on employed, middle-class, nondrinkers who have never been in Heidi's  bar.

Senate Again Rejects Obama's "Jobs" Bill

For the second time, the Democrat-controlled Senate has rejected Obama's so-called "jobs" bill. Last week the Senate shot down Obama's massive $450 billion stimulus bill. Undaunted, Obama and Reid vowed to break the bill up and pass it in pieces.

First up was a $35 billion bailout of state and local government workers. Why did that small sliver of the bill take precedence over the other 92% of it? Well, according to Harry Reid, "It's very clear that private-sector jobs have been doing just fine; it's the public-sector jobs where we've lost huge numbers, and that's what this legislation is all about."

Unfortunately for Harry, his public employee union bailout failed on a 50-to-50 vote with three Democrats joining all Senate Republicans in opposition.

There is an important point to keep in mind here. Obama and his Democrat allies are quick to suggest that Republicans are voting against teachers and first responders. That is false. What Republicans object to is yet another bailout/takeover by Big Government.

Teachers, firefighters and cops are obligations of local and state governments, not the federal government. If local governments can't meet their budgets they should cut back or raise taxes. Washington is spending record sums of money and incurring record deficits. Clearly we cannot afford the government we have now.

A lot of money for state and local workers was included in Obama's $800 billion stimulus bill in 2009. It was supposed be temporary. Now Joe Biden is raising the specter of rape and murder if we don't keep funding this "temporary" program. As Ronald Reagan was fond of saying, "The closest thing to immorality on earth is a government program."


About That "Jobs" Bill

President Obama has the audacity to claim that his latest stimulus bill would create 2 million jobs. That came from an analysis by Mark Zandi of Moody's. But when pressed for details, Zandi admitted, "I didn't know when I did that simulation how the president proposed to pay for it."

Moreover it was only a one year projection for 2012. Zandi added, "Beginning in 2013, and certainly into 2014, the plan is a drag on the economy because the stimulus starts fading away," while Obama's tax increases remain in effect. Nevertheless, Obama continued to repeat his "2 million jobs" claim during his campaign bus tour through the swing states of North Carolina and Virginia.

As a result, the folks at FactCheck.org decided to take a look at Obama's jobs spin. Here is their conclusion: "President Obama exaggerates when he claims 'independent economists' say his jobs bill 'would create nearly 2 million jobs.' The median estimate in a survey of 34 economists showed 288,000 jobs could be saved or created over two years under the president's plan."


More Green Jobs/Stimulus Waste

Here's another reason to resist the siren song of Big Government stimulus spending. In 2009, Fisker Automotive received a $529 million loan from the federal government in exchange for the promise of creating so-called "green jobs" by producing electric cars at a shuttered GM plant in Delaware.

Two years ago, in announcing the half billion dollar loan at the Delaware plant, Vice President Joe Biden said, "Folks, we're making a bet. We're making a bet on the future, we're making a bet on the American people, we're making a bet on the market, we're making a bet on innovation." As it turns out, by trying to manipulate the market, Biden made a bad bet against the American taxpayer.

ABC News reports that Fisker has just announced it will manufacture its cars in Finland, not Delaware. And just like Solyndra, there are allegations of crony capitalism and political paybacks involving Al Gore and major Democrat donors.

That's bad enough. But it's far from certain that the taxpayers will even get their money back. What kind of market exists for Fisker's $97,000 electric car? So far "Government Motors" has only managed to sell 4,000 of the $41,000 taxpayer-subsidized Chevy Volt.

This is what happens when Big Government makes bets with your money. Taxpayers almost always end up as the biggest losers.


Reporters Scrutinizing Rubio

The left-wing media's double standard is on full display today. The front page of the Washington Post features a 1,600-word investigative report on Marco Rubio's family history. The Post is accusing Rubio of "embellishing" the facts about his family's decision to leave Castro's Cuba. The depth of research is fascinating. The Post's reporters even went so far as to examine the Social Security numbers of Rubio's family members!

Of course, the Post is only interested in the junior senator from Florida because many see him as a rising star in the conservative movement -- even a leading contender for the GOP vice presidential nomination in 2012. So the liberal media are eager to start tearing him down.

But where was this kind of media scrutiny when Barack Obama first appeared on the national scene? Having gone to such great lengths to unearth naturalization papers, passports and Social Security numbers for the Rubio family, perhaps the Post's crack investigative team will now devote their full energies to revealing Obama's college transcripts, law review articles, etc.


Exposing OWS Radicalism

The unfortunate Manhattan residents who live near Zuccotti Park are fed up with the Occupy Wall Street protestors. Hundreds showed up at a community board meeting last night to vent their frustrations. One resident said, "They're defecating on our doorsteps." Another complained, "The protesters taunt people who are on their way to work." And this is the movement Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats were so quick to embrace.

Ron Paul's $1 Trillion Idea

Reports of a new era of fiscal austerity are not only greatly exaggerated, they are absolutely false. The federal government's fiscal 2011, which ended Sept. 30, proved to be the most expensive year ever with $3.6 trillion in outlays, and $1.3 trillion of that in pure deficit spending. Sure, the deficit as a share of GDP is down three-tenths of 1 percent from fiscal 2010, and Washington is using that pathetic benchmark to brag about its belt-tightening, but as we reported last week, real spending outlays actually increased 4.2 percent from the previous year. And three-tenths of 1 percent amounts to just a few billion dollars, which is little more than a rounding error considering the numbers involved.

Naturally, Democrats claim that this outrageous spending is all in the name of economic recovery and that Republican budget cutting has actually stymied an economic recovery. Therefore, despite Democrat caterwauling to the contrary, there has been literally no budget cutting so far.

GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has a plan to change all that. Titled "Restore America," Paul aims to cut $1 trillion in spending during his first year in office, in part by "eliminating five cabinet departments (Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education), abolishing the Transportation Security Administration and returning responsibility for security to private property owners, abolishing corporate subsidies, stopping foreign aid, ending foreign wars, and returning most other spending to 2006 levels."

Some other elements include using block grants for states to solve their own problems with Medicaid and other welfare programs; cutting the federal workforce by 10 percent, as well as the pay of congressional members and the president; lowering the corporate tax rate from a crippling 35 percent to a more competitive 15 percent; eliminating the death tax; and repealing ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank financial regulations.

There is much for conservatives to cheer in Paul's plan. It's important to lay out a broad vision for what Republicans would do once in control of the White House and Congress again. Paul proposes to cut almost as much in one year as the much-ballyhooed congressional super-committee will recommend over a 10-year period. Furthermore, it's not as if Paul is trying to turn back the clock on the last century, as Democrats so love to charge. He's merely pointing to 2006 -- just five years ago -- as the goal. Finally, who wouldn't want lower taxes and fewer regulations? Well, besides Democrats and Flea Party protesters.

However, there are also problems with the plan. For one, it would take a Republican super-majority in Congress to even consider doing any of the things in Paul's plan, and many Republicans don't agree with its prescriptions. Many of Paul's proposed eliminations are sacred cows in Washington, not least of which is the Department of Education. Yes, it duplicates state power and resources and is unconstitutional to boot, but even Ronald Reagan couldn't eliminate it, and it was less than a year old when he took office.

Primarily, however, Paul offers little explanation for the thinking behind his proposals, much less how to achieve them. The entire plan consists of a one-page executive summary, followed by charts and graphs of one sort and another. Paul must make a better case for why the departments of Commerce and Interior, for example, are unconstitutional or unnecessary, and how he would implement an orderly transition. The would-be commander-in-chief also needs to explain how zeroing out line items for wars or foreign aid serves our national security interest.

That said, Congressman Paul has long been a voice -- sometimes the lone voice in Congress -- of constitutional government. He has done a service to the overall presidential debate and his country by steering the conversation toward real and drastic cuts, not just nips and tucks. We hope he expounds on this plan and that it receives a serious hearing. It's certainly time for a reality check.

Hope 'n' Change: CLASS Dismissed

The Obama administration last week shelved CLASS, a major portion of ObamaCare, because they could no longer defend its inevitable insolvency. CLASS (Community Living Assistance Services and Supports), a leftist pet project even before it was included in ObamaCare in 2009, was designed to operate as a self-sustaining voluntary insurance program that workers would pay into during their careers, then collect from if they came to require long-term care later in life. CLASS could operate without a taxpayer subsidy only if large numbers of healthy workers joined it, which was unlikely given their current coverage and the program's high premiums. Thus, disabled beneficiaries would drain the program and make it insolvent unless the federal government mandated participation or created an additional payroll tax to fund it, two possibilities with which Democrats are perfectly comfortable.

Democrats knew well of this major flaw in CLASS during the ObamaCare debate in 2009, yet continued to push for its inclusion because it was the linchpin of their argument that ObamaCare was not only deficit-neutral but would actually cut the deficit. They claimed that CLASS would reduce the deficit by $80 billion over 10 years, accounting for 40 percent of ObamaCare's total supposed savings. In reality, in 10 years, the program would have collapsed by virtually every calculation. But by then, it would be too late, and the American people would have been stuck with yet another unfunded entitlement.

The CLASS disaster was averted due to a Republican provision that called for actuarial analysis before its implementation, proving the program's solvency over a 75-year period before its implementation. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius finally admitted last week that this benchmark was unattainable, and now the administration wants to "revisit" CLASS. Senate and House Republicans, however, have introduced new legislation calling for outright repeal. Strangely, Obama has threatened to veto legislative repeal. CLASS's downfall is a clear demonstration of big government hubris, further proof that all of ObamaCare should also be consigned to the scrap heap.

In related news, Reuters reports, "An unofficial gauge of human misery in the United States rose last month to a 28-year high as Americans struggled with rising inflation and high unemployment. The misery index -- which is simply the sum of the country's inflation and unemployment rates -- rose to 13.0, pushed up by higher price data the government reported on Wednesday."

New & Notable Legislation

Senate Democrats pushed for a vote this week on a $35 billion component of the Obama "jobs" bill that focuses on providing support for public school teachers and first-responders. It's a new Democrat strategy to pass the $447 billion "mini"-stimulus bill piece-meal rather than as a single package, which the president demanded in vain for several weeks. It failed Thursday.

The first portion chosen for debate focused on public sector union, employees who Reid believes are getting the short end of the economic stick. Reid "reasons" that "private sector jobs are doing just fine. It's the public sector where we have lost huge numbers." Only a big government worshipper could see a smaller public sector as a problem. And only Harry Reid could possibly believe that the private sector is doing "just fine." His premise fails every reality test. The total number of new jobs in the far-larger private sector may exceed those in government, but in terms of the percentages of jobs in both categories, the federal government's employment numbers (as well those as many states) and employee salary average dwarfs that of private sector workers.

This Week's 'Braying Jackass' Award

Last week, Vice President Joe Biden warned that failure to pass Stimulus Jr. would lead to fewer cops and, therefore, more rapes and murders. Apparently, he liked the refrain, because this week he repeated it and took it further:

"The other thing I've heard from my friends who oppose this whole jobs bill [is] that 'this is just temporary.' Let me tell you," Biden thundered, "it's not temporary when that 9-1-1 call comes in and a woman's being raped and a cop shows up in time to prevent the rape. It's not temporary to that woman. It's not temporary to the guy whose store is being held up and has a gun pointed to his head if a cop shows up and he's not killed. That's not temporary to that storeowner. Give me a break -- temporary. I wish these guys who called this temporary, I wish they had some notion of what it's like to be on the other side of a gun, or a 200-pound man standing over you telling you to submit."

Biden makes a great case for Americans' Second Amendment rights to carry guns and defend themselves. But he's talking about jobs, specifically those of police. All else aside, when was the last time a 9-1-1 call prevented a rape or murder? Police are critical to maintaining law and order, but they rarely prevent crimes. Furthermore, shameless demagoguery doesn't change the fact that the first stimulus was a failure. Why should we be saddled with a second one?

Warfront With Jihadistan: Leaving Iraq

As previously reported, the Obama regime's Iraq policy has been one of withdrawal and surrender. Last month the Pentagon announced plans to have at least 27,000 troops remain in Iraq at year's end. When the White House later ordered that number lowered, U.S. commanders replied through gritted teeth that they could make do, barely, with 10,000 troops. When the White House came back with, "Yeah, how about 3,000?" U.S. commanders were reportedly "livid." Now it appears Obama is abandoning all pretense of caring about Iraq and will bring all but 160 -- that's one hundred sixty -- of the currently deployed 45,000 troops home by the new year. The remaining troops will serve as a protective force for the U.S. embassy.

If implemented, this decision will end more than eight years of U.S. involvement in the Iraq war, despite uncertainty about that country's security forces and political stability. Although Iraq's armed forces have made significant progress, they still require U.S. aid for training, air and naval support, intelligence and counterterrorism operations, and logistics. Unfortunately, Iraq's government is not helping. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, concerned about looking like an American puppet as well as antagonizing Iran, is ignoring his own military, which supports an extended American military presence. Additionally, during negotiations for an extended presence, Iraqi leaders in parliament have refused to give U.S. troops immunity from prosecution in Iraqi courts. The U.S. cannot stay without such immunity, exposing American soldiers to the whims of an Islamic judicial system.

Politically, Obama will finally get to say he ended "Bush's war" (even as he takes military action of his own in Libya, Uganda and Yemen) just in time for the 2012 campaign. As for Iraq, only time will tell if it succeeds or ultimately succumbs to the murderous political dementia that is endemic to the region. America has fought nobly and sacrificed greatly to give an Arab Islamic country a shot at freedom. It will be up to the Iraqis to keep it.

Libya Ends While Another Conflict Begins

The present administration has a curious way of looking at warfare. In situations where the United States is at least indirectly threatened by the specter of radical Islam, Barack Obama is tripping over himself looking for a way out. But if he has a chance to take out the leader of a country that poses no threat, well, Obama is all over it. Just ask Moammar Gadhafi.

Well, you could if Gadhafi were still alive. Libya's longtime brutal dictator was killed by fighters who overtook his hometown of Sirte Thursday. Deposed and forced from Tripoli in August, Gadhafi had fled to Sirte as a last refuge. As his enemies closed in, he attempted to flee once more, but was taken alive by revolutionary forces before being killed. With his death and the fall of the last of his regime's strongholds, the National Transitional Council will move to consolidate power and reunify the nation. Memo to Moammar: Sic semper tyrannis!

Historian Victor Davis Hanson summed it up: "The Middle East is a very different place than it was on 9/11: Saddam dead, Osama bin Laden dead, Qaddafi dead, Mubarak near dead, and Assad reeling. Much of this transition is due to the decision after 9/11 to push for radical change in the Middle East, started by George Bush and more or less continued uninterrupted by Barack Obama. After the capture of Saddam, Qaddafi saw a glimpse of his own fate; one wonders how many Middle East despots are doing the same as they view the ghoulish pictures of a seemingly dead Qaddafi that are now all over the Internet."

Meanwhile, Obama has sent U.S. forces to Uganda to oppose Joseph Kony, the leader of a ragtag group of miscreants calling themselves the Lord's Resistance Army. The group, primarily child soldiers forced into taking up arms and led by Kony's iron fist, has been terrorizing central Africa for a number of years, though it cannot be construed as a threat to American national security. Now Kony, by all accounts a scoundrel of the highest degree, finds himself the target of 100 American military advisers deployed to Uganda last week in a "non-combat role." U.S. forces were sent to help regional military units fight off this guerrilla group and take care of Kony once and for all. While Congress has allowed the president plenty of leeway in dealing with Kony through a resolution passed in 2010, military force wasn't specifically authorized.

Immigration Front: Deportation Up, Alabama's Law Down

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released numbers on Tuesday indicating that nearly 400,000 illegal aliens had been deported in fiscal 2011, the highest number on record. According to The Hill, "Of the 396,906 people removed from the U.S., more than half -- 216,698 -- had been previously convicted of felonies or misdemeanors, according to the ICE numbers, which represent a 90 percent increase in the number of criminals deported over those for fiscal 2008. The numbers mark a 10 percent increase over criminals removed in fiscal 2010 -- about 195,000." The news comes after the Department of Homeland Security announced in August a shift of focus to deporting aliens with criminal records.

The White House is touting the numbers as evidence of success in stemming the tide of illegal immigration. How Barack Obama juggles that success with his goal of shoring up a disappointed Hispanic electorate could be key to his re-election efforts. Some Republicans also remain unconvinced. "The Obama administration is cooking the books to make it look as if they are enforcing immigration laws when in reality they are enacting amnesty through inaction," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX).

While appearing tough on deportations, the administration is taking aim at states that try to enact and enforce immigration laws. Alabama's recent crackdown law, challenged by the Obama Justice Department, was stayed in part by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court ruled that the state cannot, as its law says, require schools to verify immigration status or empower police to charge immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally. Construction businesses and schools had reported significant drops in their respective Hispanic populations while the law was in effect for three weeks.

Obama Spokesman: 'We're Fighting for the 99 Percent'

The last time we checked, average Americans didn't overstay their welcome on private property or create a mountain of trash and a fetid funk that drives tourists away. Yet Occupy Wall Street is getting political support, at least tacitly, from a number of Democrats in Washington who see this radical and semi-coherent "Flea Party" as the Left's answer to the Tea Party. Even though the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee hasn't followed up on a recent e-mail launching a petition drive in support of the protests, they're not backing off their statements. Nor did White House spokesman Josh Earnest, who said earlier this week that "the interest of the 99 percent of Americans [will be] well-represented" as Barack Obama launches a bus tour through Virginia and North Carolina to tout his jobs plan. In fact, the protesters are even working toward their own convention next year, where they aim to draft "The 99 Percent Declaration" in a dark mockery of our nation's founding.

Meanwhile, both the Socialist Party and American Nazi Party -- two peas in a pod -- have released statements supporting the OWS movement. On top of that, Obama tried to add a civil-rights angle to the struggle, claiming Dr. Martin Luther King would have supported the protests.

Occupy Wall Street is a nascent movement barely a month old and not even clear on its goals, but it does seem to be getting much attention from the dissatisfied Left. Yet when Wall Street tycoons are among the most fervent bundlers for Obama's campaign, his professed support of the protests seems to ring a bit hollow. Indeed, it takes immense chutzpah to accept $22 million from a group of financial services businesses over the last two election cycles -- in this cycle so far, he has taken in more Wall Street money than all the GOP candidates combined -- and yet align oneself with a motley crew of hard left protesters who claim to be average Americans.

On a related note, it seems that some of the protesters are just there to swipe other protesters' cameras, phones and other corporate-made toys. "Stealing is our biggest problem at the moment," said one occupier. Well, it's really not their biggest problem, but it's the one they're noticing. Rather like Obama's noticing that his teleprompters were stolen earlier this week. Gotta have the essentials.

Income Redistribution: Transparency and Solyndra

The "transparency" Barack Obama's campaign promised in 2008 has turned as clear as mud. In the latest segment of the Solyndra saga, the White House has refused a request by the House Energy and Commerce Committee to turn over internal White House communications, including e-mails on Obama's Blackberry, relating to the federally bolstered -- and now bankrupt -- solar-panel manufacturer. In a letter to the committee, White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler said that complying "implicates longstanding and significant institutional Executive Branch confidentiality interests" and that "the three federal agencies most directly involved in the Solyndra loan guarantee [Energy, OMB, and Treasury] ... are all cooperating with the committee's investigation." But the committee remains far from convinced that the White House wasn't also directly involved in the $535 million loan guarantee.

Furthermore, and far from assuaging doubts, Treasury officials testified last week on Capitol Hill that they have never seen a government loan restructuring quite like this one in which a company's investors were placed ahead of taxpayers in the recovery line. Doubts only intensify when one considers that some of these outside investors have close ties to the Obama White House. Digging more deeply into the White House's involvement in the Solyndra loan may be the only shovel-ready project this administration has actually produced. The truth, though, is that further digging is precisely what this "most transparent" administration is trying desperately to avoid.

Regulatory Commissars: Geithner Cheers Regulation

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told a Senate committee this week that government regulations are great and don't hurt anybody. In fact, he said, "It is very hard to find evidence across the economy today that regulation is having a material effect on growth at all."

And Geithner is dead serious. Despite the last three years' economic stagnation and job loss, coinciding with his boss's unprecedented regulatory regime, Timmy believes the government is right on course.

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) rebutted Geithner by quoting none other than General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt, the crony capitalist who also happens to be the chair of the president's own job council: "He said ... the final priority is improving collaboration between government and business with regard to regulation. Decades of overlapping and uncoordinated regulations create unnecessary hurdles and increase burdens for entrepreneurs and businesses large and small in this country." But neither Geithner and his boss nor the useful idiots on the Left will be swayed by any of that.

Second Amendment: Obama on Fast and Furious

In an interview with ABC this week, Barack Obama was asked about the ATF's Fast and Furious operation. Obama said, "Our overarching goal consistently has been to say we've got a responsibility not only to stop drugs from flowing north, we've also got a responsibility to make sure we are not helping to either arm or finance these drug cartels in Mexico." That much is obvious. "It's very upsetting to me to think that somebody showed such bad judgment that they would allow something like that to happen," he continued. "And we will find out who and what happened in this situation and make sure it gets corrected." He concluded, "people who have screwed up will be held accountable."

That's all well and good, but forgive us if we're skeptical. It was reckless and unconscionable that so many weapons walked across the border to Mexico, but was it merely "bad judgment"? We firmly believe that the intent of the program -- getting American guns into Mexico to prove that there is such a problem -- was exactly as it played out. Well, except for the part where they got caught. Perhaps that's what Obama meant when he said "people who have screwed up will be held accountable." The screw-up was getting caught, and somebody's got to pay for that.

What did Obama mean by his comments?

Around the Nation: Back Rent for Ground Zero Mosque

Con Edison keeps the lights of New York City shining, but now the utility giant may also accomplish what millions of angry Americans could not: prevent the Ground Zero mosque from opening. This won't be accomplished as the mosque's power supply company, however, but as its landlord.

The dispute concerns the piece of prime Manhattan real estate on which the mosque is to be built. The developer, Park 51, owns a five-story building on the eastern side of the property, while Con Ed owns a former substation on the western side. Park 51 had eventually planned to purchase the Con Ed building, knock down both structures, and construct its $100 million, 15-story "community center." In the meantime, Park 51 had a lease under which rent was $2,750 a month; this rate was set in 1972 and is unheard of in present day New York. Now Con Edison has raised the rent to a whopping $47,437 a month, retroactive to July 31, 2008. When Park 51 refused to pay the $1.7 million in back rent, Con Ed threatened to terminate the lease and evict. This would effectively kill the plans for the controversial project.

Park 51's lead developer, Sharif El-Gamal, has speculated that the utility company is caving in to "political pressure"; this is an interesting statement, considering that both Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg publicly support the project. A hearing is set for Nov. 17, and until then a court enjoined Con Ed from terminating the lease.

Village Academic Curriculum: Texas-Sized Problem

Over the past several years, schools across America have stopped saying the Pledge of Allegiance for fear of somehow appearing jingoistic. Now one teacher in McAllen, Texas, has asked students in her intermediate Spanish class to memorize and recite the Mexican National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. Her reason: She grew up in Mexico and loves that country. Apparently, in the upside-down world of progressive educators, this is not seen as utterly offensive to average American citizens.

A 15-year-old student disagreed, especially since the assignment was given the week after the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. When she complained, the school principal argued that she should follow the curriculum, and a district spokesman stated that the assignment was essentially "no different than memorizing a poem or a passage of Shakespeare." The girl's father believes otherwise. "Our kids don't even know the [American] national anthem," he said, "and here we are ... teaching them to memorize and perform the national anthem for Mexico. I just think it's so backwards."

The school eventually gave in, permitting the student to write an essay about Mexican history instead. The simplest solution might have been for students to learn a Spanish translation of the American Pledge. What a novel idea.

And Last...

The list of ailments, maladies, annoyances, disasters and catastrophes caused by global warming just keeps getting longer. At one time, that list was more than 600 items long, and we can now add to it again. According to Jim Hanna, the director of sustainability for Starbucks, climate change is threatening the world's coffee supply. The Teat Party vs American Soldiers

 Jed Babbin just came up with the pun of the year: The Wall Street Teat Party - for all those crying twitter mobsters "protesting" to the world, like an ugly case of national acne.

 Like any great pun, Babbin's "Teat Party" captures a great truth. I know half a dozen young adults like those "We are 99%" kids, 20 and 30-somethings who have been infantilized all their lives. They've lived at home for an extra decade or two.

 Some of them have already had their free abortions from Planned Parenthood, and never even paused to mourn the dead. It was just a bowel movement to them.

Those 20-to-30-somethings are now protesting - they're not sure against what - and demanding to be treated like infants for the rest of their lives on this earth. Free health care! Free love! Free peace on earth! 

 The world owes them.

 When Texas Governor Rick Perry first uttered his now famous remark about those who are against in state tuition for illegal aliens being "heartless" he was surging in the polls. He looked like the conservative White Knight that would slay Willard the Evil RINO.  No one had any real idea of how much harm he had done to himself or how quickly his stance on the issues would cause him to fade to black.

 Perry has literally fallen from front runner to single digit "also ran" in a matter of weeks.

 Over the years we have seen candidates who few really tough races fail nationally or in state wide races because their opponents were of the same mind on key issues. These candidates don't bother to do their homework and often assume "that issue" won't come up.

  Anarchy long has been a driving theme of the cynosure signer of an online petition of 1,200 authors and writers lending their support to the Occupy Wall Street types daily ramping up their message that Capitalism is Evil.

Noam Chomsky's name stands out in bas-relief from even authors like Margaret Atwood and  Salman Rushdie, still under Imam Khomeimi's fatwa  for his novel The Satanic Verses (l989), along with Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple.    Over fifty years a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Chomsky and his teachings often were mentioned in the academic circles of the University of Chicago types with whom I sometimes was allowed to chat.

Planned Parenthood Security Assaults Columbus Police Officer at Oct 19 Fundraiser

A peaceful protest of a Planned Parenthood event in Columbus, Ohio, erupted in violence when an off-duty city police officer hired by the abortion group attacked a colleague who arrived on the scene at the request of pro-lifers, forcing civilians to call 9-1-1 for help.

The pro-life group Created Equal had sent 15 to 20 people to peacefully picket on the sidewalk in front of the Shadowbox Theater in Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 19.

Inside the theater, Planned Parenthood was holding an annual fashion show called Condom Couture 2011. The event is a fundraiser for the taxpayer-supported group that features fashion designed by area students made entirely out of condoms.
