Quote of the Day - October 19, 2011
"I'm sure you've heard friends say, ``Oh, my vote won't matter.'' Well, the next time someone says that to you, I hope you'll remember that time and again, over the years, elections have turned on a handful of ballots. In 1960 President Kennedy was elected by a margin of just one vote in each precinct around the nation. In 1976 the Presidential election turned on two States: one was won by six votes a precinct; the other by only a single vote a precinct. And in the last 26 years more than 50 U.S. Senate and House races have been won by fewer than a thousand votes. But even when elections aren't that close, your ballot counts, because in voting, you're accepting your part in the greatest decision making body the world has ever known, the American electorate. And as someone who's stayed up late on many election nights waiting to hear how the American people had decided, I can tell you that from where I sit -- whether elections are close or not -- every vote is important."
Ronald Reagan (1911 - 2004), 40th President of the United States, speaking in a radio address to the nation on voter participation, October 18, 1986.

Obama's Violent Wars Against Third-World Secularism
19 October 2011Obama sends military advisers to fight Africa rebels ...The first wave of U.S. Special Forces Green Berets arrived in Uganda this week to support the battle against a guerrilla group accused of widespread atrocities, Pentagon and military officials told NBC News. President Barack Obama has ordered up to 100 U.S. military trainers into central Africa to help combat the Lord's Resistance Army, a band of just 200 rebels behind a campaign of murder, rape and kidnapping that began 20 years ago. - Washington Post
Dominant Social Theme: These rebels are a terrible threat, all 200 of them. The US must help stamp them out.
Free-Market Analysis: The Obama administration has sent Green Berets to Uganda to help fight the Lord's Resistance Army, led by Joseph Kony (left). Who is Kony? According to the Post, a "self-styled prophet, who mixes Christian mysticism with politics, he is believed hiding along the Sudan-Congo border."
This is right in keeping with the hypothesis we have floated on these pages having to do with the REAL reason that the Obama administration continues to start these wars. Almost every one of them is aimed at secularist regimes.

CALLING ALL PATRIOTS - PLEASE SEE MESSAGE BELOW AND PLEASE MAKE THESE CALLS!!!!
PHONE LIST AND TALKING POINTS - HB 934 VOTER ID
PASSED BY THE HOUSE, STUCK IN THE SENATE!!
IT IS SITTING IN THE STATE GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE
WE HAVE A REPUBLICAN SENATE, A REPUBLICAN HOUSE, AND A REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR BUT NOTHING MUCH IS GETTING DONE. WHY??
VOTER ID WILL ASSURE THAT YOUR VOTE WILL COUNT AND HELP ELIMINATE MULTIPLE VOTES, DEAD PEOPLE VOTING, AND OTHER ILLEGAL VOTING. 14 OTHER STATES HAVE PHOTO VOTER ID AND 14 STATES HAVE VOTER ID (NO PHOTO). WE KNOW THAT IN BOTH GEORGIA AND ALABAMA VOTER PARTICIPATION INCREASED SINCE PHOTO VOTER ID PASSED. WE ARE ONE OF THE ONLY DEMOCRACIES IN THE WORLD WITH NO UNIFORMLY REQUIRED VOTER ID. THE UNIONS DO NOT WANT IT AND THE ACLU DOES NOT WANT IT. YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF WHY WOULD ANYONE NOT WANT VOTER ID?
EVERY ILLEGAL VOTE STEALS THE VOTE OF A LEGITIMATE VOTER.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE ALL CALL THESE KEY SENATORS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK EVERY WEEK. PUT THE PRESSURE ON TO PASS IT!!
Charles McIlhinney, Bucks County, Chairman, State Government Committee
(717) 787-7305 (We are working on getting a meeting with McIlhinney.)

One thing I am passionate about and want to pass along to my listeners is that there is nothing more important than knowing about the Constitution and how its underlying principles hold true at all times and in all places.
Did you know that Hillsdale College has been holding a series of lectures, "Introduction to the Constitution," delivered by college president Dr. Larry Arnn?
No? There is still time to sign up for this free, five-week series.
| |
| |
Because I will be joining Dr. Arnn for a LIVE webcast event to conclude the "Introduction to the Constitution" series on October 20th from the Hillsdale campus. During the event, Dr. Arnn and I will discuss the main points of the series, including:
|
What the framers of the Constitution understood about that document's relationship to the timeless principles in the Declaration of Independence.
Why the fundamental features of the Constitution are representation, separation of powers, and limited government.
Why the key to a republican form of government is the vibrancy, size and independence of private society.
|
Plus, we will be answering your questions, which you can submit via email in advance of the event.
|
This event will be held:
|
October 20th 9:30pm EDT / 6:30pm PDT
|
|
This is a live event!
If you can't watch at that time, it will be archived for later viewing.
|
Already signed up for the program? Then there's nothing else you need to do. Hillsdale will be sending more information via email to everyone who is already registered.
Not yet registered? Don't worry - it's not too late to sign up for this program - visit http://constitution.hillsdale.edu/ to register for free today.
Best of all, you can catch up on all of the lectures you have missed, including the Second Annual Constitution Day Celebration on September 15. It featured Congressman Paul Ryan and syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer, along with members of the Hillsdale College faculty and other special guests.
|
You don't want to miss this exciting conclusion to the "Introduction to the Constitution" series.
| |
Pass it along to your friends, family, coworkers - everybody!

|
If you have any questions, please email constitution2@hillsdale.edu.
We look forward to discussing this important topic together.

The Kitchen Table Patriots are proud to join with The Philadelphia Loyal Opposition and Eagle Forum in support of Al Schmidt (Only) for City Commissioner on Nov. 8th!
October 2011
Dear Philadelphia Eagle,
You live in a spot where there will be an election this year on Tuesday, November 8 that could affect the national election next year in a big way. You will have the opportunity to vote in a special election that will have implications on every other office in the United States - from your local neighborhood to the White House.
This is the election for Philadelphia City Commissioner. Those are the officials who are in charge of running fair and honest elections in Philadelphia. You and I know that our candidates cannot win unless we have honest elections. For years, we've heard the same complaints about unfair elections, politicking inside the polls, voter intimidation, poll watchers denied access, and much more.
I urge you to vote for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner on Tuesday, November 8 because we know we can count on him to fight for fair and honest elections. Philadelphia has three Commissioners, but no more than two can belong to the same political party. That means two Democrats and one Republican will be elected.
I urge you to vote ONLY for Al Schmidt (Press #119) - even though your ballot instructions will probably say "vote for two." You are absolutely NOT required to "vote for two" - you have a right to vote for only one, and that is the only way to assure that Al Schmidt will be elected. Also, do NOT vote a straight Republican ticket because that will automatically cast your ballot for both Republican candidates, only one of whom can win. If you have any questions, call PA Eagle Forum President Ned Pfeifer, 412-973-0502.
Al Schmidt is eminently qualified to be a Philadelphia City Commissioner. He is a former Senior Analyst for the non-partisan U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) - the investigative arm of Congress. There, he conducted oversight of government agencies, programs, and policies to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement anywhere that federal taxpayer dollars are spent. After leaving GAO, Al ran for City Controller and earned a reputation as an outspoken advocate for good government.
Al Schmidt has the skills and commitment to clean up the City Commissioner's Office and give us honest elections in Philadelphia. This can be decisive in how Pennsylvania will go in the important 2012 elections, and maybe even how the U.S. will go.
I urge you to vote on Tuesday, November 8 for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner - and vote ONLY for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner. Press #119. This could be more important than any vote you cast next year.
Faithfully,
Phyllis Schlafly
P.S. Please tell ten of your friends to be sure to vote ONLY for Al Schmidt (Press #119) on Tuesday, November 8. This is a crucial election for Philadelphia, for Pennsylvania, and for America.

Dear Patriot, Your participation is vital for this event. WE NEED 20-30 people to respond with a firm "yes" to picket Rep. Pileggi's office on 10/22/11 before we call the media. Press coverage is the best way to inform the public about the actions or inactions of our representatives. If there are only a handful of people, the press will either report nothing or will report the small number that turned out. The story will become one about lack of interest and lack of participation rather than lack of action by Senator Pileggi. We need to know who is willing to help us get this out to the public. Senator Pileggi, PA Senate Majority Leader, has not shown leadership and it is time we let him know! The Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the Governor's office in Harrisburg. The House is doing its job-Senator Pileggi is stalling many bills in the Senate that are good for the Commonwealth. Please call LISA ASAP at 484-995-1540 to let her know if you will or will not be participating. We would like to picket his district office (100 Evergreen Dr, Glen Mills) Saturday, October 22nd from 11:00-1:00pm. We hope to have the press there to get our message out in order to educate the public and hold him accountable. Attached is a flyer (SEE BOTTOM OF PAGE) that we will be handing out that day. We will also be distributing these at the Court Houses in Media and West Chester at different times. We would also like to have it handed out during the morning rush hour at train stations in Senator Pileggi's district--this has been very effective in the past. All signs should reflect what is in the flyer--keep it simple. We need to know who is willing to help us get this out to the public. Your response is very important! ****** Please call Lisa ASAP at 484-995-1540 to let her know if you will, or will not, be participating. I am reaching out to you in hopes of gaining your support. I have taken the liberty of attaching a PDF recounting a compelling story which I contributed to with the team at the Chester County Hero Fund (501c3).
For the last year, I have been training for the Marine Corps Marathon, which I will run on October the 30th (just shy of my 68th--birthday) in D.C.
I'm running to raise money to build an accessible home for Jay Raffetto a wounded Marine. Jay graduated from Conestoga H.S. with my daughter Jennifer in 2000. I always gave him positive encouragement through his parents about the virtues of military service. Jay became a medic with special operations (Force Recon, USMC) and unfortunately, last August he became a triple amputee-while on patrol in Afghanistan.
I'm asking for a donation to support his cause and I'm asking consideration for a Corporate Sponsorship as well---if possible. I think this is a compelling cause.
Please see attached PDF with instructions on the bottom of the sheet.
100% of your donation will go Jay and his wife Emily, Thanks in advance for your support of Jay, his family and our men and women in the Military.
Also please feel free to use this email and PDF to send to others you Feel might want to support this effort.
P.S. I know I can count on your help!

Welcome to Washington's Headquarters at the Moland House
1641 Old York Road, Hartsville, PA 18974
In the early evening of 10 August 1777, eleven thousand Continental and militia soldiers are marching up York Road towards the Cross Roads with Bristol Road [Hartsville, PA] on their way to Coryell's Ferry [New Hope, PA] to camp four miles across the Delaware River. General George Washington receives a dispatch from John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress, placing the 260-vessel British fleet, hauling 17,000 troops under General William Howe, fifty miles south of the Delaware Capes [May & Henelopen] on 7 August. Unsure and wary of Howe's intentions, Washington immediately halts his force to encamp around the bridge over the Little Neshaminy Creek in Warwick Township, Bucks County. Knowing the area and having ridden through only ten days earlier, he selects the substantial stone dwelling of Widow Moland as his Head Quarters on the farm north of the bridge.

Thursday, October 20th at 7:30PM: Kenneth C. Davis, "Why A President?" At the Philadelphia Convention, the nature of the Presidency was a subject of hot debate. What did the framers of the Constitution want the "chief magistrate" to be? What changes have been made to the Constitution that directly relate to Presidential powers and elections? What would the Framers think of the modern American Presidency? These are some of the questions that author Kenneth C. Davis will address. He is the author of the popular Don't Know Much About... book series as well as America's Hidden History: Untold Tales of the First Pilgrims, Fighting Women, and Forgotten Founders Who Shaped a Nation and A Nation Rising: Untold Tales of Flawed Founders, Fallen Heroes, and Forgotten Fighters from America's Hidden History.
Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30PM: John Fea, "Was American Founded as a Christian Nation? How Did the Founders Understand the Relationship Between Church and State?" John Fea, Associate Professor of American History at Messiah College and a David Library Fellow, will investigate the role of religion in shaping the Constitution. Professor Fea is the author of Was America Founded as a Christian Nation? and The Way of Improvement Leads Home: Philip Vickers Fithian and the Rural Enlightenment in Early America. Thursday, December 1st at 7:30PM: Paul Finkelman, "America's Covenant With Death: Slavery and the Founding." Paul Finkelman is the President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy, and Senior Fellow in the Government Law Center at Albany Law School. His lecture will explore the relationship of slavery to the American founding, and will examine how slavery was written into the original Constitution, and protected by it.
Thursday, December 8th at 7:30PM: George W. Boudreau, "'A Republic, If You Can Keep It': Benjamin Franklin and the Crafting of the Constitution." The series closes with a talk by an audience favorite, George W. Boudreau, Associate Professor of Humanities and History at the University of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg. Professor Boudreau is Project Director of the "Teaching Franklin" website (http://harrisburg.psu.edu/teachingfranklin/). His lecture will explore Franklin's role in the creation of the Constitution. Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Help Prevent Voter Fraud ! !
Judical Watch is Demanding Answers Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:
 | "The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2 |
But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.
We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action? True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step. For more information email info@truethevote.org or go HERE to sign up now! |

It's time to sign up!
Earlier this year we announced a major event for this fall, "The Doctrine of Abrogation: Open the Koran Day."

2012 Presidential Candidate Selector or Obama, His Allies & Critics Matching Quiz
Politicians have already indicated their 2012 presidential aspirations. This matching quiz includes President Obama, top members of his administration, Obama's most vocal critics (Boehner, Cantor, etc.) and likely White House prospects (Palin, Pawlenty, Jindal, etc.). You may select a position for every issue, or just select issues important to you. The political figures' positions are based upon their voting records, special interest group ratings and their statements in the public record. In cases where there is no known public record or statement, these politicos are not given a score on that issue. We add candidates, revise their views and include new issues as they become known or change. Check back often for updates.

Pre-Order Atlas Shrugged Now!
Earlier this year, I urged you to go to theaters to see Atlas Shrugged: Part One and share its message of limited government, free markets and individual liberty with family, friends and neighbors. Based on Ayn Rand's classic novel written in 1957, Atlas Shrugged: Part One was immediately celebrated as a "made for Tea Party film." The film is now finally set for its much-anticipated release on DVD. As a FreedomWorks member, you can pre-order a limited edition version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One featuring special bonus features from FreedomWorks. Pre-order It Now! Atlas Shrugged: Part One is set in a not-so-distant future in which government has taken control of businesses, bureaucrats have impose burdensome regulations on the economy and entrepreneurs are rapidly disappearing from society. Their disappearances are all linked to a man named John Galt, a mysterious figure who leaves this desperate world wondering: "Who is John Galt?" I know many of our members were disappointed that Atlas Shrugged: Part One, a film that had been attempted and scrapped numerous times since the novel debuted over 50 years ago, didn't play in a theater in their area. The release of this limited edition FreedomWorks version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One DVD is a great opportunity to own a part of film history. Get It Now. As I've said before, Atlas Shrugged: Part One has the opportunity to introduce millions more around the world to the philosophy of freedom. This DVD is a great gift for family and friends who care about the principles of limited government, free markets and individual liberty. Give A Gift. While activists have many reasons for getting involved in this grassroots movement-TARP, the stimulus, ObamaCare-I know that for me I wasn't initially motivated by a piece of legislation or a midterm election. My conversion happened many years ago when I picked up a dog-eared copy of the 1,000 page tome we know as Ayn Rand's masterpiece, Atlas Shrugged. That's the power of this book and this film. Pre-order It Now. In Liberty, Matt Kibbe President and CEO, FreedomWorks

RedState Morning Briefing
For October 20, 2011
1. All Huffy, Joe Biden Stands By Rape Reference to GOP
Vice President Joe Biden now says he didn't make a reference to rape, and got testy with HUMAN EVENTS when we asked if he would like to retract his comments that the number of sexual assaults would increase if Republicans don't sign on to Barack Obama's latest "jobs" proposal.
"I didn't use, no no no...Let's get it straight, guy. Don't screw around with me," Biden lashed out at HUMAN EVENTS. Then Biden confirmed that he indeed did talk about rape in terms of the President's spending measure. "Murder will continue to rise, rape will continue to rise, all crimes will continue to rise," if the Democrats agenda isn't passed, he added.

2. Thin Skin
It finally hit me tonight why I think Mitt Romney would have a real problem in the general election.
He is Barack Obama.
No, not really. But yeah, there is something there. They are both robotically good on the campaign trail. But throw them off guard, get them off balance, and they turn a bit nasty.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
3. Harry Reid: 'Private Sector Jobs are Doing Just Fine; It's the Public Sector Jobs Where We've Lost Huge Numbers'
Here's Sen. Reid's (D-NV) statement from the Senate floor today:
"The massive layoffs we've had in America today-of course they're rooted in the last administration-and it's very clear that private sector jobs are doing just fine. It's the public sector jobs where we've lost huge numbers, and that's what this legislation's all about. And it's unfortunate my friend the Republican Leader is complaining about that. I would also note that my friend said the House passed another bill. Well, they pass lots of bills, but they rarely go anyplace."
Here's a fact that Reid should look over before he opens his mouth again. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, government workers have the lowest unemployment rate of any industry or class recorded, at 4.7%, while the national unemployment rate is 9.1% - nearly twice that of public sector workers.

4. Mitt Romney Bleeds. I Star in the Film
This is a necessary attack from Mitt Romney. Had he not pushed something out like this, the story would be that Mitt Romney got wounded last night. In several unscripted, unguarded moments he mentioned he failed to keep costs down in Massachusetts and was worried about illegals working for him because he was running for political office.
Mitt Romney had to do this.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
5. Exacerbating Distrust
Even Mitt Romney's advisors will admit that they see what the rest of us see. In the Real Clear Politics polling average going back all the way to November of 2010, Mitt Romney has never gotten above 25.0% in the polling average. It is a real ceiling for him.
The campaign had hoped that by encouraging states to escalate the time table and getting endorsements like Chris Christie's they'd (1) build an air of inevitability, (2) get voters to start settling for him, and (3) keep the field against him so fractured that consolidation could not be possible before the clock ran out.
It is still a viable strategy if the field does not consolidate.

Quote millionaire rabble-rouser Michael Moore:

"The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' or 'The Enemy.' They are the revolution, the Minute men, and their numbers will grow-and they will win." Wonder whether maybe it's not too late for Moore to go and share his insights and empathy over a friendly decapitation or two somewhere like Fallujah or Al Amara.

We are better than them. When all the other arguments for why we can't fight back have been exhausted this is the one that remains in the background presenting our moral exceptionalism as the reason we shouldn't fight to protect ourselves. "Fight back? But then we'd be no better than them?" If we waterboard then we are no better than the headchoppers and mutilators. If we profile then we are no better than the genocidal jihadists. If we treat our friendly Pakistani and Saudi visitors the way they would have been treated a century ago-- then we would be guilty of being un-American. But is that really the difference between us, that we treat everyone equally even when they are cutting our throats, and the moment we deviate from the standards of the Trial Lawyers Association then we're no better than the Taliban or Al-Qaeda? Does our exceptionalism derive from our laws, in which case if we compromise our laws then we given up the only worthwhile thing about us and there is nothing more to fight for-- or are our laws the means by which we protect our individual and national exceptionalism? We are better than they are, is the argument put forward so often by those who do not truly believe that we are, and even when they do they don't understand why we are. The Bill of Rights did not spring full-grown out of a barbaric culture, nor did any of the same judicial rulings and quotes so often used by advocates of the 10 percent defense plan. We are not better than they are because we guarantee civil rights to our enemies-- we are better than they are because of Michelangelo, the microchip and universal education. We are better than they are because of Shakespeare, the space shuttle and the World Trade Center. We are better for all the reasons around us, the accomplishments, the achievements, the knowledge we have gained and the society we have built.

It's Not Oil, It's Water By Nancy Scola, The Atlantic h/t Birdalone
"The Texas governor's ties to the Jewish state stretch back to his time as agriculture commissioner
Ever since it became apparent that Texas Gov. Rick Perry was a staunch defender of Israel, and all the more so when a video emerged showing him joining rabbis in a spirited Hanukkah dance in the governor's office last year, the roots of his long-standing affection for the nation state have been a subject of speculation in some quarters. Was it oil? The religious affinities of a conservative Christian? Or was it a shared fighting spirit? Perry, after all, once drew a connection between Masada, the site of a siege during the First Jewish-Roman War, and the Alamo. After Perry gave a speech on Israel at the W Hotel in New York City late last month, Maggie Haberman of Politico picked up on a detail that points to yet another explanation. In 2009, Perry told the Jerusalem Post...

Iran is at war with us, and we must win. By Andrew C McCarthy, NATIONAL REVIEW The Islamic democracy project is nothing if not beguiling. From Clinton's Orwellian "peace process" through Bush's cloying "freedom agenda" to Obama's contortion of an Islamist ascendancy into "the Arab Spring," the dream teems with self-congratulation, so much so that its debilitating downsides go unseen and unaddressed. Thanks to the Islamic Republic of Iran, that situation has just gone from dangerously delusional to dangerous, period. The list of downsides is long. There is the rudimentary problem that democracy promotion does not work. As a national-security strategy, it is irrelevant to our threat environment. Yes, democratic nations tend to avoid war with each other. If al-Qaeda were Afghanistan, it might make sense to spend tenfold Afghanistan's GDP to drag it kicking and Allahu-akbaring 14 centuries forward. But principles fit for sovereign states are inapposite when... Read the whole entry »
Sun Tzu's Art of War shows how Shalit deal could place thousands of Hamas at risk by Bill Levinson Now that Gilad Shalit is safely at home and Hamas cannot go back on what could have been a deadly mistake, we can discuss a theory to the likelihood that Israel is neither as stupid nor as pusillanimous as it looks. Sun Tzu's Art of War, which Mao Tse Tung adopted as the guide for his very successful revolution, shows how Hamas might have played squarely into the hands of the Mossad and/or Shin Bet. Israel might have just planted 50, 100, or even more double agents among the Palestinians who will cooperate (for example) in setting up Hamas terrorists to be killed, or locating Palestinian rocket batteries for destruction, whenever Israel considers this necessary. Sun Tzu wrote, The enemy's spies who have come to spy on us must be sought out, tempted with bribes, led away and comfortably housed. Thus they will become converted spies and available for our... By David Isaac, Shmuel Katz Blog Staff Sgt. Gilad Shalit has been released. In exchange, Israel will release 1,027 terrorists, among them murderers sentenced to consecutive life sentences. Needless to say, 'life sentence' does not carry the same force in Israel as it does in other places. Those Israelis who have greeted this news with euphoria argue that Shalit has suffered, his family has suffered, and so everything must be done to release him. This myopic view ignores the suffering of those families who seek justice for the death of loved ones murdered by the terrorists about to be released. Israelis in favor of the deal may plausibly argue that Shalit is still alive and his life takes precedence over those now dead. Nothing can be done to save them, but something can be done to save Shalit. This, too, is myopic, because it ignores those Israelis to be done to death by the unrepentant murderers back on the street. Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Strategic Affairs,... By Ted Belman Amnesty International issued a press release today. Israel-Hamas prisoner swap casts harsh light on detention practices of all sides Gilad Shalit was held captive for five years by Palestinian armed groups The prisoner exchange involving Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and 477 Palestinian prisoners highlights the need for the humane treatment of all detainees in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), Amnesty International said today. Obviously it wants to show equivalence. God forbid it should criticize only Hamas. It was not a "prisoner exchange". It was an outrageous ransom paid for a hostage. It only mentions the 477 terrorists that were released calling them "prisoners" rather than terrorists. What about the other 550? Then it lumps them all into "detainees" in the OPT which I surmise includes Gaza.

By Ted Belman The Middle East Forum just published a long well researched article by Prof Steven Plaut titled Israel's Tenured Extremists It included reference to a broadside delivered by Alan Dershowitz when he received an honorary degree from Tel Aviv University. The Dershowitz Counterattack Probably the most dramatic exhibition of the problem came at the national assembly of the governors of Tel Aviv University in the spring of 2010. The keynote speaker invited to the affair was Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz. While left of center, Dershowitz is passionately pro-Israel and, at the same time, vehemently opposed to infringements upon academic freedom. Upon receiving an honorary doctoral degree at Tel Aviv University, Dershowitz gave a dramatic speech denouncing the homegrown, anti-Israel cadre of lecturers dominating Israeli universities.[25] He defended the rights of these academics to exercise freedom of speech-or, in his words, the "right to be... Ettinger is right about the aid but he doesn't speculate why the US keeps doing it. Ted Belman By Yoram Ettinger, ISRAEL HAYOM One million demonstrators participated in the anti-Mubarak Tahrir Square rallies earlier this year. However, two million demonstrators joined the Muslim Brotherhood anti-U.S. Tahrir Square demonstration following the toppling of Mubarak, highlighting a political trend in Egypt. The transfer of advanced U.S. military systems to Egypt - including the co-production in Egypt of the M1A1 Abrams tank - undermines vital U.S. national security interests. It bolsters a regime at odds with the values and the long-term interests of the U.S., making it a potentially anti-U.S. regime that is becoming increasingly closer to Hamas and a safe haven for additional anti-U.S. terrorists. It accelerates the regional arms race and fuels Egyptian imperialistic goals in the Sudan, the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It rewards a regime that oppresses... Read the whole entry »
In interviews, protesters show that they are leftists out of step with most American voters. Yet Democrats are embracing them anyway. By DOUGLAS SCHOEN, WSJ President Obama and the Democratic leadership are making a critical error in embracing the Occupy Wall Street movement-and it may cost them the 2012 election. Last week, senior White House adviser David Plouffe said that "the protests you're seeing are the same conversations people are having in living rooms and kitchens all across America. . . . People are frustrated by an economy that does not reward hard work and responsibility, where Wall Street and Main Street don't seem to play by the same set of rules." Nancy Pelosi and others have echoed the message. Yet the Occupy Wall Street movement reflects values that are dangerously out of touch with the broad mass of the American people-and particularly with swing voters who are largely independent and have been trending away from the president since... Terrorists should be given the death penalty, whether formally or quietly, says former chief IDF rabbi. By Maayana Miskin Terrorists who spill blood should get the death penalty, former chief IDF rabbi Avichai Ronsky said Monday. Speaking to Arutz Sheva, Rabbi Ronsky suggested that if necessary, terrorist murderers could be killed "in the field." "In many cases, it doesn't need to reach a court," he said. Soldiers could simply shoot to kill instead of doing their utmost to bring terrorists in alive, "without giving the matter too much publicity," he explained. "It happened in the past," he added. The Supreme Court has ruled that IDF soldiers must bring terrorists in alive whenever possible, saying that to do otherwise is illegal assassination. If terrorists do make it to court alive, the court should apply the death penalty, he said. The Biblical verse, "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed" applies to all of humanity, he... Read the whole entry »

October 19, 2011 American Laws for American Courts
Please sign the petition! By Brigitte Gabriel, President ACT! for America This is unlike any petition we've ever done. We're not sending it to Congress or the administration. We're "sending" it to us. And it's extremely important. You see, we need to hear from you. We need to know if you'll sign our petition of support for our 2012 effort to get "American Laws for American Courts" (ALAC) legislation passed in as many states as possible. We need to know which states have the greatest grassroots support for ALAC. I'll explain why in a moment. Earlier this year we were successful in getting ALAC passed in Tennessee and Arizona. The bill prohibits state courts from using foreign law in areas such as family law. "Foreign law" includes sharia law. This is a powerful firewall against the intrusion of sharia law into our court system. A Center for Security Policy report released earlier this year documented over 50 instances in 23 states where American courts have used sharia law over the past several years. Our opponents have literally "gone ballistic" over our efforts to get "American Laws for American Courts" passed. One Michigan state representative made the absurd and dishonest claim that support for this bill is "racism at its core"!! As we prepare for the 2012 state legislative sessions, we must build on the momentum we have gained this year. To do so, we need to make good, strategic decisions about where to introduce "American Laws for American Courts" and where to focus our energies and efforts. Our ultimate objective is to get ALAC passed in every state in the Union, but we're not ready yet to fight for passage of this law in every state-so we must choose where to do so in 2012. This is where you come in. One element in our decision-making is the amount of grassroots support we can muster in a state. Should our opponents try to make the preposterous case that the law is "racist," we have to have a loud and strong grassroots presence to persuade state legislators to do the right thing and pass the bill. For this reason, we are launching a petition to gauge the strength of our grassroots support for the bill in every state-except the states of Tennessee, Arizona, Louisiana and Oklahoma, where a bill or initiative in some form has already passed. So let your voice be heard. Please sign the petition. Forward it to others in your state and encourage them to sign. Every person who signs will be put on the list for that state, so we can track the response to this state by state. It's not just the total number of names from each state we'll be looking at. We know that larger states will likely have a lot more people sign the petition than smaller states. This is why we'll look at the number of names from each state as a percentage of the population of that state. So help us in our strategic decision making. Let us know how much grassroots support there is in your state by signing our petition and forwarding it to everyone you know today! Always devoted, Brigitte Gabriel

5 Foreign Nationals In Custody After Attempted Break-In at Texas Courthouse, Authorities Say
October 19, 2011
The FBI and local police said Wednesday they were trying to figure out why five French-Moroccan nationals tried to break into a Texas courthouse in the middle of the night.
At least five foreign nationals are in custody after the attempted break-in at the Bexar County Courthouse in San Antonio, which triggered a bomb scare and FBI terror investigation, a source close to the case tells FoxNews.com.

Anti-Semitism tainting Occupy Wall Street protests
'Emergency Committee for Israel' publishes clip in which Jews are attacked and blamed for financial crisis and assistance to Israel
Yitzhak Benhorin
VIDEO - Several anti-Semitic incidents have been reported during "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations in New York as Jews were blamed for the turmoil in America's financial markets. In addition, anti-Israel signs were raised against "Israel's occupation of Gaza".
The "Emergency Committee for Israel" has published a hard-to-watch clip in which Jews are attacked and blamed for the financial crisis and assistance to Israel. The committee is a neo-conservative body headed by William Kristol, the Jewish editor of the Weekly Standard, which aims to convince Jews to vote for a Republican presidential candidate.

Go here: Jennifer Rubin writes: This does not mean all or even most of the OWS protesters are anti-Semitic, but the prominent liberal leaders who have shown sympathy for their cause have failed to speak out, as have the other elements within the group. Israel Today reports: "More than the few Occupy Wall St. anti-Semites themselves, it is the lack of a clear and firm repudiation of their hateful rhetoric by the mainstream American media and political leaders that has a growing number of Israelis and Jews on edge." The Republican National Committee (RNC) blasted leading Democrats this week for supporting the "Occupy Wall Street" protests and ignoring the anti-Semitism on display there: RNC communications director Sean Spicer blasted top Democrats for voicing their support for the demonstrations even as some of the protesters make "anti-Semitic, anti-Israel comments," according to a memo first reported by "Morning Score" on Wednesday. Spicer pointed to President Barack Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel for turning a "blind eye" to the language used by some individuals at Occupy Wall Street. "Where's the outrage?" Spicer wrote. READ MORE While our colleagues across the aisle at the National Jewish Democratic Council did make a perfunctory statement condemning what they describe as "rare" anti-Semitism at OWS protests, they claimed at the same time that the "vast majority of the disturbing rhetoric" comes from the right. That's red meat for their members, but simply untrue. Still, it fits with the narrative promoted by too many in the mainstream media, as RJC Congressional Affairs Director Noah Silverman noted in a blog post this week: As the indispensable Newsbusters ably documents, the tone of suspicion that pervaded coverage of the Tea Party is nowhere to be found in liberal MSMers' reports on OWS. Gone too is the dogged interest in following the money to determine the no doubt sinister funding arrangements that make it all possible And, now - unlike then - MSM accounts of OWS gloss over the malignant fringe element that can nearly always be found at the margins of large demonstrations. ...I take a relatively intense interest in the shifting standards and double standards at work here because I remember how apoplectic some Jewish leftists got - not too long ago - over clearly quite isolated instances of anti-Semitism and noxious Holocaust rhetoric coming from the other side of the aisle.... Bad news for Romney here:
Newly obtained White House records provide fresh details on how senior Obama administration officials used Mitt Romney's landmark health-care law in Massachusetts as a model for the new federal law, including recruiting some of Romney's own health care advisers and experts to help craft the act now derided by Republicans as "Obamacare." The records, gleaned from White House visitor logs reviewed by NBC News, show that senior White House officials had a dozen meetings in 2009 with three health-care advisers and experts who helped shape the health care reform law signed by Romney in 2006, when the Republican presidential candidate was governor of Massachusetts. One of those meetings, on July 20, 2009, was in the Oval Office and presided over by President Barack Obama, the records show. "The White House wanted to lean a lot on what we'd done in Massachusetts," said Jon Gruber, an MIT economist who advised the Romney administration on health care and who attended five meetings at the Obama White House in 2009, including the meeting with the president. "They really wanted to know how we can take that same approach we used in Massachusetts and turn that into a national model."
While this may be a liability for Romney now, it'll be even worse if Romney makes it into a General Election Campaign, as he'll try to criticize Obamacare, only to have Obama remind him that Romney's Massachusetts health care advisors provided vital assistance in getting the thing ready. (Hat Tip: Hot Air.)

News from The Hill:
House Republicans demand Obama's emails on Solyndra By Andrew Restuccia
House Republicans are pushing forward with their request for all internal White House communications related to the now-bankrupt solar firm Solyndra, including President Obama's emails. The White House late last week denied the request by Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, noting that the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Treasury Department and the Energy Department have provided over 70,000 pages of documents in recent months. The White House, in a letter from White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler, also said that more than 900 pages of communications between the White House and Solyndra have also been released. The documents that have been provided by the administration "should satisfy the Committee's stated objective," Ruemmler said in the letter. "Your most recent request for internal White House communications from the first day of the current Administration to the present implicates longstanding and institutional Executive Branch confidentiality interests," the letter says. But, in a letter to Ruemmler Wednesday, top Republicans on the committee argue that the White House should turn over the additional documents. Read the complete story here.

Wednesday, October 19, 2011 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer High Stakes In Vegas Debate The stakes were high for several candidates in last night's Las Vegas debate. As a result, the gloves came off quickly and the elbows were flying! Here is my analysis of the debate. As a friendly reminder, I have not endorsed any candidate, so please do not try to read between the lines. The general consensus is that Mitt Romney came out on top -- again because no one knocked him down. I will be eagerly awaiting the first post-debate polling data, because I'm not sure anyone came out a winner last night. This race is still wide open, and we may well be surprised by the outcome in some of the early states. For the first time the candidates seriously engaged Mitt Romney over RomneyCare. He took the hardest hit from Rick Santorum, who said, "You just don't have credibility, Mitt, when it comes to repealing ObamaCare. Your plan was the basis for ObamaCare. Your consultants helped Obama craft ObamaCare. And to say that you're going to repeal it, you just have no track record that we can trust." According to the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, 64% of Republican primary voters said they were "much less likely" to vote for a candidate who supported a health insurance mandate. Another 12% said they were "somewhat less likely" to vote for such a candidate. No other issue polled generated such an intensely negative reaction. But Romney wasn't the only candidate feeling the heat last night. The latest front-runner, Herman Cain, also had a bull's eye on his back, and his 9-9-9 plan took a beating. Rep. Bachmann condemned it for including a "hidden" VAT tax. Governors Perry and Romney noted how the national sales tax would be piled on top of state sales taxes, which would in some states approach 20%. Rep. Paul called it "dangerous" and "regressive." Cain pushed back, arguing that his opponents were comparing apples (state taxes) to oranges (federal taxes), and added, "We are replacing a bunch of oranges." But there is a lot of apprehension among conservatives -- even those who support the concept -- of imposing a national sales tax in addition to the income tax. In fact, last November Herman Cain wrote, "A national retail sales tax on top of all the confusing and unfair taxes we have today is insane!" Now one of the architects of 9-9-9, economist Stephen Moore, is recommending that Cain drop the sales tax portion. Moore said, "I've come to the conclusion that the American people and the voters do not want a national sales tax." Moore advocates replacing the 9% sales tax with a 9% payroll tax. But Cain's biggest setback last night probably had nothing to do with 9-9-9. Moderator Anderson Cooper asked Cain to elaborate on an interview he had done earlier in the day when he suggested that as president he could see himself releasing all the Al Qaeda prisoners at GITMO in exchange for one U.S. soldier. Cain seemed to stumble through his answer and later said he misspoke. It is undeniable that the economy is the top issue right now. But it is also undeniable that foreign policy is among the most important aspects of the presidency. In addition to electing a "CEO," we are choosing the next commander-in-chief. It is imperative that our nominee have a keen grasp of all the issues. If there were an award for "Most Improved Debator" it would go to Gov. Rick Perry. Perry's performance last night was a reminder of how much can change in one debate. He aggressively challenged Romney and was spot on in his call for more domestic energy production. It was clear from last night's debate that Governor Perry can take his game up a notch or two. He remains a strong contender. Again, I tip my hat to Senator Santorum for raising the importance of values during the debate. When asked what message he had for Latino voters, Santorum stressed that the GOP shares their values on issues of faith and family. There was a very powerful moment during the debate when Michele Bachmann zeroed in on the anxiety felt by mothers and families going through foreclosures. It was a poignant reminder that the issues debated on that stage are not just abstract theories, but are of great impact to all Americans. I suspect she connected with many voters in a very personal way. Newt Gingrich was the debate's ninth inning closer -- rightly reminding everyone watching that a circular firing squad was not a path to victory. Our ultimate goal must be defeating Barack Obama! Making An Impact As Obama and the Democrats continue to embrace the Occupy Wall Street Movement, the Republican National Committee is going on the attack. Yesterday the RNC issued a press release asking "Where's the outrage?" The release included a link to the ad produced by the Emergency Committee for Israel showing the disgusting anti-Semitism on display at the Occupy Wall Street protests. As you may know, I am on the board of the Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI), along with my good friends Bill Kristol and Rachel Abrams. I am proud of the work ECI is doing. It is one more example of the ways in which we are making an impact! All We Need To Know In the past 24 hours Barack Obama and Harry Reid have told us all we need to know about their agenda. In an interview with ABC News, Obama had the audacity to tell Jake Tapper, "I believe all the choices we've made have been the right ones." Really? The $800 billion stimulus bill that gave us a higher, not lower, unemployment rate was the right choice? An unconstitutional, trillion-dollar socialized medicine scheme that most Americans want to repeal was the right choice? In other words, he hasn't done anything wrong -- he just hasn't done enough of it yet! (That explains why he just proposed another massive stimulus bill.) And, once again, Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid is rushing to defend Big Government largesse. First it was cowboy poetry. Now it's government bureaucrats. On the Senate floor this morning, Harry Reid said -- and I quote -- "It's very clear that private-sector jobs have been doing just fine; it's the public-sector jobs where we've lost huge numbers, and that's what this legislation is all about." So with 9.1% unemployment, Harry Reid thinks the private sector is "doing just fine"? Reid is so concerned with how much Big Government is suffering, and what we really need right now is a bailout of the public sector. The Congressional Budget Office reported recently that federal expenditures are up -- not down. In fiscal year 2011, the government spent a record $3.6 trillion and posted its second highest deficit ever of $1.298 trillion. As a reminder, the deficit in 2007 was $161 billion, just 1.2% of GDP. Obama's deficit this year is $1,298 billion, nearly 9% of GDP. And that's not enough for Harry Reid. There is never enough of your money for the liberal Democrats. The best way to stop their taxing and spending is to stop them at the ballot box!

9-9-9 CAN SAVE OUR COUNTRY By DICK MORRIS October 18, 2011
In 1980, facing a terrible economy, Ronald Reagan called for a new tax program: 10-10-10. Based on the Kemp-Roth bill, he called for 10 percent cuts in income taxes for three years. He got it, and it kindled 20 years of prosperity.
Now, Herman Cain understands that we need fundamental reform to get our economy moving. He calls for replacing the current system with just three levies of 9 percent each on personal income, corporate income and consumption. There would be no capital gains tax, inheritance tax, Social Security tax or Medicare tax. Just 9-9-9. Read more:

Lawmakers fret over Cuba oil-drilling
By Roberta Rampton | Reuters - Tue, Oct 18, 2011
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The government is doing what it can to ensure that the first full-scale oil exploration in Cuba's part of the Gulf of Mexico will not endanger Florida's pristine beaches that lie only miles away, the top drilling regulator told lawmakers on Tuesday.
But the assurances did not completely convince senators at a Capitol Hill hearing that the United States would be prepared to respond to a worst-case oil spill scenario in waters controlled by its long-time Communist foe.
The government is evaluating the safety and emergency plans of Repsol YPF, which plans to explore for oil in the Gulf of Mexico after a Chinese-made rig arrives later this year, said Michael Bromwich, head of the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

"[A] wise and frugal government ... shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." --Thomas Jefferson
Editorial Exegesis
"A majority of Americans disapprove of what President Obama has done in office. He promised hope and change but delivered disappointment and stagnation. The unemployment rate is stuck at 9.1 percent. The poverty rate is at 15.1 percent, tied for the worst performance since the Census started tracking numbers in 1959. White House policies of class warfare and redistribution are impoverishing America, and the public is starting to feel worked over. ... During the recession, the average duration of unemployment increased from 16.6 weeks in December 2007 to a shade over 24 weeks by June 2009. That figure is now 40.5 weeks, the longest it has been in more than six decades. The longer a person is unemployed, the harder it is for him to find a job, as job skills erode and potential employers question whether it might be more prudent to hire someone else without big gaps in their work history. Mr. Obama's solution involves having the federal government declare the long-term unemployed a legally protected class. His American Jobs Act would subject businesses to frivolous lawsuits if they decide against hiring someone who has been jobless for an extended time. Doing so would serve as one more disincentive for companies to hire or hold interviews for open positions, making it even harder for the jobless to find work. ... Ultimately, Americans will not find their pocketbooks thickening so long as Uncle Sam strangles entrepreneurs with regulatory red tape. Companies need to have certainty that they will be able to keep the proceeds of their investments in the future before they will start hiring again and pay their employees more." --The Washington Times

"Whenever the substance of the Occupy Wall Street movement troubles Democratic politicians their response is to hide behind platitudes about free speech. 'It's about their right to express themselves!' Well, no it's not. Free speech is important, but it's really not the issue. It certainly wasn't even much of a concern when it was the Tea Party expressing itself -- which it managed to do without inviting mass arrests. Back then, leading Democrats considered dissent racist or un-American. Now they celebrate free speech so they can hide from dealing with the issues at hand honestly. Democratic politicians think that this gives them cover. It doesn't. It just shows that they're afraid to disagree with the protesters either because they agree with them or because they know the protests are popular among their own supporters. Either way, it's proof that the much ballyhooed wall between mainstream radicalism and mainstream liberalism is more like a speed bump." --columnist Jonah Goldberg
"The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced in a fundraising letter that it is seeking 100,000 signatures on a petition declaring 'I stand with the Occupy Wall Street protests.' And David Plouffe, the president's senior campaign advisor, sounded upbeat for the first time in a while. 'We intend to make it one of the central elements of the campaign next year,' he told the Washington Post. 'One of the main elements of the contrast will be that the president passed Wall Street reform and our opponent and the other party want to repeal it.' ... OWS is America's version of the Greek throngs in the streets -- screaming for more bailouts and subsidies when the well has run dry. It's a depressing image of self-delusion and national suicide. But far from the '99 percent,' OWS represents only a sliver of the electorate -- and the president's embrace of them only confirms his marginality in American politics." --columnist Mona Charen
"Obama entered office unorganized and unstructured. Nothing in his background suggested that he knew anything about management, organization, or leadership. Nor did anyone see the need for bringing in talent with these skills. As a result, the Hollywood mannequin was almost immediately exposed as nothing but flair, hype, and hot air. The public had bought a product that did not perform. Marketing can do many things, but it cannot sell a product that people have tried and rejected. ... Obama's reelection problem can be expressed in one simple sentence: 'Now, too many people know him.'" --columnist Monty Pelerin

Dumb Republicans: "Maybe [Republicans] just couldn't understand the whole [American Jobs Act] thing all at once. So we're going to break it up into bite-size pieces so they can take a thoughtful approach to this legislation." --Barack Obama
Shameless and crass: "The other thing I've hear from my friends who oppose this -- this whole jobs bill -- [is] that this is just temporary. It's not temporary to the guy whose store is being held up and there's a gun pointed at his head, if a cop shows up and he's not killed. ... Bailouts galore: "On several occasions now, we've seen, quite frankly, the Congress is in rebellion, determined, as Abraham Lincoln said, to wreck or ruin at all costs. I believe, quite frankly, in the direct hiring of 15 million unemployed Americans at $40,000 a head, some more than $40,000, some less than $40,000 -- that's a $600 billion stimulus. Morning Bell: The Backdoor Attempt to Rewrite No Child Left Behind
Mike Brownfield
October 19, 2011
Remember when then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said of Obamacare that Congress will "have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it"? Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) is now taking that approach with his attempt to revamp education in America. And just as that strategy was a terrible idea for health care, it's the wrong move for education, as well.
The Senate today will begin the markup of Harkin's 860-page proposal to rewrite the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), now known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB). The proposal amounts to more new regulations and red tape that would be layered on to local school districts, maintaining the status quo of Washington-centric education reform. And the trouble is that the Senate hasn't even had time to parse through the proposed legislation, let alone hear from those whom it seeks to control. In an exclusive interview yesterday with The Heritage Foundation, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) explained his frustrations with the process:

Google, Antitrust, and Not Being Evil
By James Gattuso October 12, 2011
Google-incorporated 13 years ago by college students Larry Page and Sergey Brin-is an American success story. Armed with little more but a graduate thesis and a few algorithms, the firm remade the Internet, providing individuals the world over with unimaginably easy access to information of all kinds. In the process, Page and Brin's company would become one of the world's largest, with $30 billion in annual revenue and over 28,000 jobs created.
The company has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal economy the past few years, continuing to grow-and to create jobs-throughout the downturn. With joblessness at nearly 10 percent, one would think this would be cause for celebration by policymakers. But instead, Google's success has made it a target for antitrust actions to restrict its activities. Such restrictions would be unnecessary and harmful.

OCTOBER 19, 2011 A Story Worth Telling: Justice Joseph Story and the Proper Role of Judges
The Supreme Court's term has barely begun, yet speculation already abounds as to when the Court will hear and how it will decide politically controversial cases such as Obamacare, racial preferences, immigration, and same-sex marriage.
Court watchers offer their predictions as to the outcomes of the cases, but many (if not most) simply presume that the justices will decide the cases based upon what they individually believe to be good policy, rather than based upon any requirement in the law.
Liberal activist judges have given the public reason to believe judging is just policy work conducted in robes. Liberal Justice William Brennan famously said, "With five votes you can do anything around here"-five being a majority of the Supreme Court.
And liberal Ninth Circuit Judge Stephen Reinhardt, who issues such radically activist decisions that they are frequently reversed by even the most liberal Supreme Court justices, boasts about how many of his extreme opinions slip through unreversed by noting that our nation's highest Court "can't catch them all."
This is not how judges are supposed to conduct themselves. Attorney General Edwin Meese explains the proper role of a judge in deciding constitutional questions: "Those who framed the Constitution chose their words carefully; they debated at great length the most minute points. The language they chose meant something. It is incumbent upon the Court to determine what that meaning was."
Appointed to the Supreme Court by James Madison, Justice Joseph Story understood American law from this standpoint. The Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation honors the legacy of Justice Story and his ideals of judicial restraint with the Joseph Story Distinguished Lecture, which is part of our Preserve the Constitution Series. Past speakers have included Judge Robert Bork, University of Virginia Professor John Harrison, and Judge A. Raymond Randolph. This year, we are honored to host Judge Alice Batchelder, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
What if Supreme Court justices did not confine themselves to any established rules, but instead determined the reason and spirit of the Constitution according to what appears right to them? Judge Batchelder will explore this question in-depth, using examples of key cases from recent history.
At 5:30pm (Eastern time) TODAY, click here to watch this year's Joseph Story Distinguished Lecture. This important speech will also be available online at that link tomorrow by noon.
Do you believe judges today have strayed from the Constitution? We welcome your comments on our blog >>

United States of America v. Ebony Wood in Various Forms: The Gibson Guitar Case
A leading manufacturer of vintage instruments, Gibson Guitar Co. was recently raided at its offices in Nashville and Memphis. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service agents seized valuable guitars and other assets. Reports vary on exact charges, though clearly the raid was related to the Lacey Act-which demands that American citizens follow even the arcane laws of every country on earth. At Obama's White House job number one is building a stone wall - but will it work?
Oct 19, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Obama really isn't very bright, even though he can show flashes of cleverness at times. His handling of the "Green" scams, particularly Solyndra has been clumsy and heavy handed at best. Consequently, unlike other slimy Democrats before him, Obama might not be able to dodge these bullets. Everyday this man who told us his would be the "most transparent" Administration in history is being proved a liar.
Stonewalling with a technicality
An audit of Obama's major agencies completed in 2009 found they granted themselves 50% more "free passes" by refusing to comply with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) then those claimed by the Bush Administration during the year before. For the year 2009 the same percentage held true as well.
Obviously we are getting nothing but evasion from this administration, not transparency as Congress is finding out.
The House Energy and Commerce subcommittee chairman Rep. Cliff Stearns has demanded emails ... Continue Reading:At Obama's White House job number one is building a stone wall - but will it work?

The TEA party's Cain mutiny Oct 18, 2011 01:55 pm | Coach Collins By Kevin "Coach" Collins The TEA party is in a, mutiny, a Cain Mutiny and the Republican establishment - Karl Tokyo Rove and his "open the borders to get Hispanics to vote Republican" friends- don't know what to do about it. Last year the TEA party movement scared the Democrats. With the major league butt kicking we put on the Democrats they finally got the message. Nevertheless, along the way we learned a hard lesson as we watched the Republican establishment savage our candidates in Delaware Nevada and Alaska. They helped Harry Reid hold the Senate because to them Democrats are preferable to TEA partiers. We got their message, now we will be the ones teaching the lessons. Now we will have to scare the Republican establishment, Tokyo Rove types. Our first order of business in scaring the Republicans is this message: WE WILL NOT NOMINATE WILLARD ROMNEY - PERIOD! Urge President Obama to Reduce Immigration and Create Job Opportunities for 22 Million Unemployed Americans
With the national unemployment rate hovering around 9%, the immigration policies established by Congress bring in 125,000 new foreign workers to the U.S. each month. This amounts to 1,500,000 foreign workers each year, who compete directly with Americans for U.S. job opportunities.
The current rate of immigration far surpasses our national traditional average of 250,000 new immigrants a year. Our present-day immigration numbers are highly unsustainable and harms both American workers and newly arrived immigrants alike. We all support immigration in moderation. Many of our friends, family, and co-workers are immigrants themselves. But too much of anything can become harmful long term. Especially during the current economic recession when millions of Americans are struggling to find adequate employment.
President Obama must do more to help reverse this trend. Send this critical message to President Obama today, urging him to do more to restore U.S. immigration back to its traditional levels. This is a completely free service. There is no cost to you.
Dear President Obama,
With more than 22 million Americans unable to find a full-time job, it's time for you to consider reducing the number of immigrants America admits to take U.S. jobs.
Each year, the United States admits 1.5 million new foreign workers to compete against U.S. workers for an ever decreasing number of jobs. How is this just or fair to the tens of millions of Americans who cannot find sufficient employment? Are these 1.5 million foreign workers more deserving of U.S. jobs than jobless Americans? We both know they are not.
I hope you will act with compassion and act to reduce the number of foreign workers the United States admits. Millions are depending on you to do the right thing. Please don't let us down.
Sincerely, (Your Name Will Appear Here)

News from The Hill:
House looks to repeal controversial 3 percent withhold law next week By Pete Kasperowicz
House Republicans may take up bipartisan legislation next week to repeal a widely scorned law requiring all levels of government to withhold 3 percent of most payments to contractors, Medicare recipients, farmers and vendors. The House Ways & Means Committee marked up the bill, H.R. 674, last week, and it's high up on the list of GOP priorities for legislation to help create the conditions for job growth. As of the middle of this week, House aides said GOP leaders seemed to be shooting for floor action next week. The withholding rule became law in 2005, and was meant to help close the gap between taxes owned and taxes collected. But it was never implemented, and was delayed further under the 2009 stimulus bill until the end of 2011. Republicans are not the only ones who oppose current law - even President Obama has called the possible withholding rules "burdensome withholding requirements that keep capital out of the hands of job creators." The IRS earlier this year delayed implementing it again until the end of 2012. Read the complete story here. |

First CLASS, What Next?
In a Friday bad-news dump that was a whopper even by its own standards, the Obama administration added to the announcement of a near-record annual deficit and an escalation of undeclared war in Uganda the news that the CLASS Act, an ill-conceived adjunct of the Affordable Care Act, is no more. The upshot is this: Obamacare just got a whole lot more expensive than advertised, and there is reason to believe that its Democratic architects have long known this would happen.
The Community Living Assistance Services and Support Act was the brainchild of the late senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, and it was supposed to be a kind of Social Security that provided long-term care for the elderly. It figured heavily into the Democrats' dubious accounting of the cost of the Affordable Care Act, and at the time of passage was expected to account for $70 billion out of a total $143 billion in "deficit reduction" claimed in the bill.
But that number was a lie twice over. The revenue created by CLASS-more recently projected to be not $70, but $86 billion, as the CBO's ten-year budget window has moved forward since passage-comes in the form of insurance premiums paid to the government, which eventually would have been disbursed to cover care, not reduce the deficit. Yet Democrats designed CLASS to collect premiums for five years before paying out benefits, which made it look like it was running surpluses within the CBO's ten-year budget window.
That would have been bad enough, but it gets worse. You see, the CLASS model was unworkable from the word "go," coming as it did with all the features you'd expect to see in a health-care "death spiral." The program was voluntary, meaning that those more likely to require its benefits would be more likely to enroll, and the healthier individuals required to offset the actuarial risk would stay away. This adverse-selection problem would mean higher premiums, and higher premiums would mean more adverse selection. As a result, CLASS was projected-by the government's own chief Medicare and Medicaid actuary-to begin paying out more in benefits than it took in in premiums just ten years after it got off the ground.

Earlier this month, a panel appointed by the Department of Health and Human Services made a recommendation so detached from the good of individual patients it could only have come from government bureaucrats. They recommended eliminating screening for the most common cancer among males nationwide.
The United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) is composed of 16 government-selected experts whose recommendations often influence the reimbursement policies of Medicare and private insurers. The range of members' backgrounds is narrow considering the group is charged with advising the federal government and other healthcare providers on specific medical procedures: almost all are academics or administrators rather than practicing physicians. The panel includes experts in pediatrics and newborn care, in mental health and geriatrics, but not a single urologist who actually takes care of prostate cancer patients.
Despite lacking any specialist who deals with the issue, the panel issued a recommendation this month to stop using the only available test to screen for prostate cancer. PSA tests, which measure levels in the blood of a marker known to be elevated in men with prostate cancer, are the sole method of screening other than digital examination by a doctor, which cannot detect the most common form and usually identifies those cancers it can much later, when they are less curable.

The Wheels Are Coming Off
Posted: 19 Oct 2011 02:19 PM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Spent some time on the phone today with one of my favorite New York Times reporters (that's not a joke-there are a couple I actually do like and trust to play a story straight up, even when their own views might be otherwise-man bites dog!) about California's plan to launch their long-promised cap and trade program to fight global warming starting tomorrow. It is a sure sign that California has jumped the shark, or perhaps a better cliché is that California has certified that it is no longer the leader/innovator it once was thought to be, but is a positively reactionary force-a lagging indicator of where the world is really going. Because just when California decides to join the carbon reduction bandwagon, the wheels are coming off that bandwagon.
Tomorrow's Wall Street Journal will include these two headlines that are up already online:
Japan Reconsiders Plan to Cut Carbon Emissions
And,
EU Weighs Pullback on Cutting Emissions
Here's the Europe lede first:

Uncommon Knowledge with Larry Arnn Posted: 19 Oct 2011 04:48 AM PDT (Scott Johnson) Larry Arnn is the twelfth president of Hillsdale College, the former president of the Claremont Institute, and the vice chairman of the Claremont Institute's Board of Directors. As the president of the Claremont Institute, Arnn was instrumental in the founding of the original Claremont Review of Books, the Claremont Institute's flagship publication and one of the flagship publications of the conservative movement. Among his contributions to the CRB is the invaluable essay on Churchill, "Thoughts and adventures." President Arnn recently sat down with Peter Robinson for an installment of Uncommon Knowledge on location at Hillsdale. The subject of their wide-ranging discussion is the Declaration and the Constitution. Through our arrangement with the Hoover Institution, we are pleased to present the interview in its entirety. Please check it out. Read more:
CRB: Scouts' honor Posted: 19 Oct 2011 04:19 AM PDT (Scott Johnson) This morning we continue our preview of the new (fall) issue of the Claremont Review of Books. The issue is characteristically chock full of excellent reviews and essays by prominent scholars. If you love to read and if you lean conservative, it is tailor-made for you. There is no other publication like it. A subscription to the CRB costs less that $20 a year. Subscribe here and get immediate online access to the entire issue thrown in. In this issue, CRB associate editor Kathleen Arnn turns her attention to the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts of America turned 100 years old last year, and this year is the centennial anniversary of their first official handbook. In "Scouts' honor," Ms. Arnn explores the original Handbook for Boys and compares it to the edition Scouts use today. You will find in both essential wilderness skills: tips for fending off wild animals, identifying trees and wildlife, and navigating through the brush. But on character development, an essential component of Boy Scout training, the books are very different. Where the old handbook recommends boyish adventurousness and old-fashioned self sufficiency, the new handbook is worried and cautious. What does this mean for the Boy Scouts, and for the American boys they are educating? Read more:
The Question That Needs Asking Posted: 19 Oct 2011 03:25 AM PDT (Steven Hayward) I only caught a little of the GOP debate last night, but I came away with two thoughts: first, the distinct impression that New Gingrich's "it's-so-crazy-it-just-might-work" strategy for this race is looking a little less crazy with every debate. He's clearly the most able figure in the field, and if Herman Cain fades as I expect he will (I like Cain, but c'mon-that Gitmo answer was pure amateur hour), then suddenly Newt might well emerge as the real alternative to Romney. (In the half of the debate I saw, Perry continued to unimpress.) My second thought is that no one has yet asked the simple, key question that would instantly decide who the best candidate is. And that question is: if elected, which president's portrait would you put up in the Cabinet room? Ronald Reagan famously put Calvin Coolidge's portrait in the Cabinet room, to near-universal jeers from the Washington establishment. But it was a sign that Reagan really meant what he said about wanting to limit government. Coolidge is the right answer, though Warren Harding would also be a great answer. By contrast, recall that one of the Presidents Bush-I forget which one now-put Eisenhower's portrait up in the Cabinet room. Ike was a great man, a steady and decent president, but by no means any kind of principled conservative. To the contrary, he expanded New Deal programs (gave us the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, for example), and was only weakly partisan on behalf of the Republican Party. And the less said about his Supreme Court picks the better. Putting Ike's portrait up in the Cabinet room was a sure sign that we couldn't expect much of a fight against Washington from that administration. Read more: |

Occupy Wall Street ♥ Wall Street
|
The worst thing about Occupy Wall Street is that it's ruining a good cause: hating Wall Street. Just when opposing Wall Street was gaining momentum, these brain-dead zombies are forcing us to choose between thieving bankers and them. If the Flea Party were really concerned about the greedy "Wall Street one Percent," shifting money around to make themselves richer and everyone else poorer, their No. 1 target should be George Soros.
|
Of course, we don't know exactly how much money Soros has, since he keeps all his money in offshore bank accounts. We do know that Soros has been convicted of insider trading. And we know that his general modus operandi is to run around the world panicking sovereign nations, so he can pocket the difference when their currencies collapse.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Romney gives Perry a debate beatdown
Rick Perry is great on a lot of issues - but immigration is not one of them. Whoever is advising Rick Perry should be fired for encouraging Perry to take on Romney over illegal immigration. Perry dug up the same claim from the 2008 campaign - the one that was thoroughly examined and dismissed. Perry doubled down on his mistake by trying to interrupt Romney as he explained it (again) -- and looked terrible in the process. Check out the clip and reaction on radio today. WATCH.

Media ignores another obvious radical Islamic terrorist
There was a disturbance on a flight from Los Angeles to Kansas City and the reports immediately sought to clarify that this incident was not terror related. The local NBC news station filing the report mentioned nothing about the man's name, which religion the man was or what it was that he was yelling to cause the disturbance. Any takers on what it was this guy was yelling? Find out HERE.
