Obama's Jobs Bill Ends State Sovereignty
- Wake Up Governors!!
Section 376 of Obama's tax and spend "jobs" bill ends state sovereignty, turns our Republic into a dictatorship and destroys the foundation upon which our country was built.
The fundamental transformation of America is almost complete.
(a) Abrogation of State Immunity- AStateshall not be immune under the 11th Amendment to the Constitution from a suit brought in a Federal court of competent jurisdiction for a violation of this Act.
(b) Waiver of State Immunity-
(1) IN GENERAL-
(A) WAIVER- A State's receipt or use of Federal financial assistance for any program or activity of a State shall constitute a waiver of sovereign immunity, under the 11th Amendment to the Constitutionor otherwise, to a suit brought by an employee or applicant for employment of that program or activity under this Act for a remedy authorized under Section 375(c) of this Act.
(B) DEFINITION- In this paragraph, the term `program or activity' has the meaning given the term in section 606 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000d-4a)."
Here is the link to 42 USC 2000d-4a which defines "program or activity":
"For the purposes of this subchapter, the term "program or activity" and the term "program" mean all of the operations of-
(1) (A) a department, agency, special purpose district, or other instrumentality of a State or of a local government; or
(B) the entity of such State or local government that distributes such assistance and each such department or agency (and each other State or local government entity) to which the assistance is extended, in the case of assistance to a State or local government;"
Also...
"any part of which is extended Federal financial assistance."
The above is stated as an extension of the actual citation of the general section itself.
More from Section 376 (emphasis added):
"(2) EFFECTIVE DATE- With respect to a particular program or activity, paragraph (1) applies to conduct occurring on or after the day, after the date of enactment of this Act, on which a State first receives or uses Federal financial assistance for that program or activity."
Wake up Governors!! Wake up America!! Tell Congress about Section 376 and why they must not pass this bill.
Obama's tax and spend "jobs" bill is a stealth move to end state sovereignty and transform what made our nation the greatest country the world has ever known.

Welcome to Washington's Headquarters at the Moland House
1641 Old York Road, Hartsville, PA 18974
In the early evening of 10 August 1777, eleven thousand Continental and militia soldiers are marching up York Road towards the Cross Roads with Bristol Road [Hartsville, PA] on their way to Coryell's Ferry [New Hope, PA] to camp four miles across the Delaware River. General George Washington receives a dispatch from John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress, placing the 260-vessel British fleet, hauling 17,000 troops under General William Howe, fifty miles south of the Delaware Capes [May & Henelopen] on 7 August. Unsure and wary of Howe's intentions, Washington immediately halts his force to encamp around the bridge over the Little Neshaminy Creek in Warwick Township, Bucks County. Knowing the area and having ridden through only ten days earlier, he selects the substantial stone dwelling of Widow Moland as his Head Quarters on the farm north of the bridge.
Thursday, October 20th at 7:30PM: Kenneth C. Davis, "Why A President?" At the Philadelphia Convention, the nature of the Presidency was a subject of hot debate. What did the framers of the Constitution want the "chief magistrate" to be? What changes have been made to the Constitution that directly relate to Presidential powers and elections? What would the Framers think of the modern American Presidency? These are some of the questions that author Kenneth C. Davis will address. He is the author of the popular Don't Know Much About... book series as well as America's Hidden History: Untold Tales of the First Pilgrims, Fighting Women, and Forgotten Founders Who Shaped a Nation and A Nation Rising: Untold Tales of Flawed Founders, Fallen Heroes, and Forgotten Fighters from America's Hidden History.
Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30PM: John Fea, "Was American Founded as a Christian Nation? How Did the Founders Understand the Relationship Between Church and State?" John Fea, Associate Professor of American History at Messiah College and a David Library Fellow, will investigate the role of religion in shaping the Constitution. Professor Fea is the author of Was America Founded as a Christian Nation? and The Way of Improvement Leads Home: Philip Vickers Fithian and the Rural Enlightenment in Early America.
Thursday, December 1st at 7:30PM: Paul Finkelman, "America's Covenant With Death: Slavery and the Founding." Paul Finkelman is the President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy, and Senior Fellow in the Government Law Center at Albany Law School. His lecture will explore the relationship of slavery to the American founding, and will examine how slavery was written into the original Constitution, and protected by it.
Thursday, December 8th at 7:30PM: George W. Boudreau, "'A Republic, If You Can Keep It': Benjamin Franklin and the Crafting of the Constitution." The series closes with a talk by an audience favorite, George W. Boudreau, Associate Professor of Humanities and History at the University of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg. Professor Boudreau is Project Director of the "Teaching Franklin" website (http://harrisburg.psu.edu/teachingfranklin/). His lecture will explore Franklin's role in the creation of the Constitution.

Property Tax Reform and the Cost of Education - An Outstanding Round Table Discussion

THE BIG PICTURE ON PROPERTY TAX REFORM AND THE COST OF EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN!!
Our round table of three outstanding speakers: Nathan Benfield, David Baldinger and Dr. Richard Brake
THE COST OF EDUCATION GOES UP, UP, UP AND OUR PROPERTY TAXES KEEP GOING UP, UP, UP! WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE THIS?
No discussion on property tax reform is complete without talking about what it is costing to educate our children and whether or not they are getting the education they deserve, according to Nathan Benfield, Director of Policy Analysis for the Commonwealth Foundation. Nate has researched and written on public policy issues including taxation, government spending, education reform and transportation funding. He has frequently provided testimony to Pennsylvania House and Senate committees on various issues including education.
David Baldinger a full-time volunteer for the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations (PCTA) will be with us to explain the School Property Tax Elimination Plan that permanently eliminates all school district property taxes as well as eliminating local school district earned income taxes (EIT). PCTA says Statewide, current school district budgets increase, on average, at twice the rate of inflation! And, "no tax should have the power to leave you homeless". David started this work in 2004 and since has become one of PA's leading experts on the subject.
Dr. Richard Brake is the Director of Educational Programs at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), a non-profit educational foundation with a mission to "Educate for Liberty"- by inspiring college students to discover and embrace principles that make America prosperous, moral, and free. Dr. Brake lives in Berwyn with his family and is currently an elective member of the TE school board. Dr. Brake has documented the failure of America's top universities to teach students the founding history, texts, and institutions of our constitutional republic. His commentary on this disturbing trend has appeared in media outlets nationwide.
Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.
Judical Watch is Demanding Answers Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:
"The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2
But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.
We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action? True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step. For more information email info@truethevote.org or go HERE to sign up now!

2012 Presidential Candidate Selector or Obama, His Allies & Critics Matching Quiz
Politicians have already indicated their 2012 presidential aspirations. This matching quiz includes President Obama, top members of his administration, Obama's most vocal critics (Boehner, Cantor, etc.) and likely White House prospects (Palin, Pawlenty, Jindal, etc.). You may select a position for every issue, or just select issues important to you. The political figures' positions are based upon their voting records, special interest group ratings and their statements in the public record. In cases where there is no known public record or statement, these politicos are not given a score on that issue. We add candidates, revise their views and include new issues as they become known or change. Check back often for updates.
Earlier this year, I urged you to go to theaters to see Atlas Shrugged: Part One and share its message of limited government, free markets and individual liberty with family, friends and neighbors. Based on Ayn Rand's classic novel written in 1957, Atlas Shrugged: Part One was immediately celebrated as a "made for Tea Party film."
The film is now finally set for its much-anticipated release on DVD. As a FreedomWorks member, you can pre-order a limited edition version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One featuring special bonus features from FreedomWorks. Pre-order It Now!
Atlas Shrugged: Part One is set in a not-so-distant future in which government has taken control of businesses, bureaucrats have impose burdensome regulations on the economy and entrepreneurs are rapidly disappearing from society. Their disappearances are all linked to a man named John Galt, a mysterious figure who leaves this desperate world wondering: "Who is John Galt?"
I know many of our members were disappointed that Atlas Shrugged: Part One, a film that had been attempted and scrapped numerous times since the novel debuted over 50 years ago, didn't play in a theater in their area. The release of this limited edition FreedomWorks version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One DVD is a great opportunity to own a part of film history. Get It Now.
As I've said before, Atlas Shrugged: Part One has the opportunity to introduce millions more around the world to the philosophy of freedom. This DVD is a great gift for family and friends who care about the principles of limited government, free markets and individual liberty. Give A Gift.
While activists have many reasons for getting involved in this grassroots movement-TARP, the stimulus, ObamaCare-I know that for me I wasn't initially motivated by a piece of legislation or a midterm election. My conversion happened many years ago when I picked up a dog-eared copy of the 1,000 page tome we know as Ayn Rand's masterpiece, Atlas Shrugged.
Billie Tucker down in Florida makes an excellent point worth reiterating. The GOP is set, yet again, to have a debate on MSNBC.
Seriously.
Dare I refresh your memories on the last one? For two hours we were stuck with Brian Williams and John Harris of the Politico asking questions no one cared about in picking the Republican nominee. It was a dreadful debate that was capped off with Al Sharpton, Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell, Ed Schultz, and the rest of the crew at MSNBC commenting on the debate.
Why does the GOP do this to itself? Seriously? These people are not your friends. The people who watch that network are not the great unwashed willing to be persuaded. MSNBC is actively opposed to the GOP.
At the end of the last debate millions of Republicans suddenly cried out in terror and suddenly switched the channel upon seeing the MSNBC panel show up.
Those who stuck around saw a network biting the hands of the candidates who had just given that channel more traffic in one night than it probably had ever gotten.
The GOP should stop being stupid and just tell MSNBC no way. Why waste the candidates' time or ours - particularly since every bit of demographic data on that network shows the typical MSNBC watcher would rather vote for Charles Manson than any of the Republicans.
Environmentalists are up in arms and going to court to try to prevent the mowing of grass taking place around the future site of the Keystone XL Pipeline, an oil pipeline connecting Alberta, Canada with Gulf Coast refineries.
The Center for Biological Diversity, Western Nebraska Resources Council and Friends of the Earth have filed a lawsuit making the charge that the mowing of grass along the proposed route is really the beginning of construction.
Richard Cordray, President Obama's pick to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, won approval from the Senate Banking Committee last week on a party-line vote. His confirmation to run the new agency faces fierce opposition from Republicans, who have vowed to block Senate approval until reforms are made to the agency.
Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) is leading those calls for reform. As the ranking Republican on the Banking Committee, Shelby has maintained a hard line with Obama and Democrats on Cordray's confirmation.
Every year thousands of women train and prepare to Race for the Cure organized by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest breast cancer nonprofit. During October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, almost every product on the shelves, from batteries to blenders, turns pink and contributes a portion of their sales to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. One needs not see the name to know who is behind the pink ribbon. Most people, however, do not know what is beyond the ribbon and the name for which it stands.
$731,303. That is the amount donated to Planned Parenthood by Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 2009 alone. The relationship between Planned Parenthood and Susan G. Komen has been documented and objected to for so long that Komen actually has an explanation letter on their website.
Getting a candidate on the ballot in Indiana is not easy. I know, from first hand experience, that many campaigns struggle to do it. But it now appears that in 2008, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton took a short-cut. They just cheated.
It turns out that someone appears to have forged the signature of former Democratic Governor Joe Kernan on the petition to get Barack Obama on the ballot.
He was elected in 2000, and is serving in his 6th term in Congress as a Republican.
He is pathetic on education issues and school choice reforms in particular. He voted in favor of No Child Left Behind, and earlier this year, was one of only 4 Republicans to oppose reinstating opportunity scholarships for poor children in D.C.
He is a restrictor of free speech. He supported McCain-Feingold campaign finance "reform," along with 527 reform a few years later. He even opposed a bipartisan bill to ensure that campaign finance laws would not apply to bloggers.
He is a defender of seemingly every liberal spending program, including: the National Endowment for the Arts, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Amtrak, Headstart, Americorps, the National School Lunch Program, the Legal Services Corporation, etc. He is serial reauthorizer of farm subsidies, highway subsidies, and energy subsidies.
He is profoundly unserious about cutting spending. He voted to earmark funds for Kentucky's tourism industry, the DC metro system, a National Mule and Packers Museum, researching the genetic makeup of grapes, the Bronx Council of Arts, etc. He consistently votes against the conservative budgets offered by the Republican Study Committee (with one exception, which must have been a mistake). He opposed comprehensive reforms to the budget and spending process designed to limit government rather than expand it, probably because they were opposed vigorously by the appropriators.
It was the one question in the Bloomberg-Washington Post debate that gave away the game. A source close to, but not in, the Bachmann campaign told me it was that question when he realized the game was over for Michele Bachmann. It was that one question that, according to a source close to the Perry camp and a source close to the Cain camp, raised a red flag for the Romney campaign and shows just how worried the Romney camp is about the race consolidating.
It was that one question that also shows why the Romney campaign is, behind the scenes, furiously pushing states to move up their caucuses and primaries.
That one question spoke louder to more people than all the other questions asked Tuesday night. And in that question lies Michele Bachmann's ultimate defeat and Mitt Romney's Achilles heel.
Yes, one question did all that. Find out what that question was in this week's horserace.

Destroy a liberal's argument by exposing the underlying rhetorical cheat.
NO. 4. "Closing Down the Argument." In a debate based on fact, a conservative will always win. A sure-fire sign that a liberal is losing is when he tries to "close down the argument" by casting aspersions on your morality. For example, if you are debating immigration, he will accuse you of being a "racist"; if you're worried about radical Islam, you're "Islamophobic"; if you want your kids to be taught properly at school, you're an "elitist"; if you think marriage requires one man and one woman, you're "homophobic"; if you think there are rather obvious differences between men and women, you're a "sexist"; and so on. This technique says: "My opponent is so satanically evil that what little truth he has to utter is irredeemably tainted by his depravity. Whereas, I'm good and nice and caring, so I win." All you have to do to counter this technique is to point out to the liberal exactly what he's doing.

The discovery that Steve Jobs's biological father was a Sunni Muslim immigrant from Syria who had made his way to America in the early 1950s has occasioned a flood of Arab commentary. A world mired in tribal feuds and technological backwardness has been all-too-eager to lay claim to the magician of the Bay Area, the father of the personal computer, the iPod, iPhone and iPad.
It was Jobs's biological father, 80-year-old Abdulfattah "John" Jandali, now working and living in Nevada, who opened the doors onto a complicated past. The son of a well-off family from Homs, Mr. Jandali had been eager to know the world beyond that ancient city. In 1950, he made his way to Lebanon and to the glitter and brilliance of the American University of Beirut. Two years later he immigrated to the U.S., where he earned a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin in 1956. He then worked a stint as a professor in Nevada, before settling into a management career in that state's gaming industry.
It was as a young student that Mr. Jandali met and fell in love with Joanne Schieble, now known as Joanne Simpson. A boy was born out of wedlock and given up for adoption. Ms. Simpson's father would not agree to his daughter's marriage to a young Syrian. But after the father's death the couple married, and another child was born, a girl named Mona. A few years later they divorced, and Mr. Jandali had little if any contact with his ex-wife. By then their son was in the care of a new family, a working-class couple who had promised that the boy would be given a good home and a university education.
Whenever there is an attempted or successful Islamic terrorist attack in the U.S., leaders of groups like CAIR and ISNA, and their enablers and apologists, immediately wring their hands about a potential "backlash" against Muslims.
While such a backlash is always hard to find, as illustrated by the declining number of hate crimes against Muslims over the past few years, a real story of persecution is ignored by most of our media, government, and academia; most of our churches; and, of course, CAIR, ISNA, and their enablers. (It is refreshing to see that the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom is demanding an investigation of recent events in Cairo).
It is a 1,400 year old story of jihad, of the persecution of Christians, Jews, Hindus, and those of other faiths, at the hands of militant Muslims. A story that is being played out now right before our eyes, and reported on below (highlights added).
The forgotten Christians of the East By Caroline B. Glick
It is unclear what either Western governments or Western churches think they are achieving by turning a blind eye to the persecution of Christians in the Muslim world
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | On Sunday night, Egyptian Copts staged what was supposed to be a peaceful vigil at Egypt's state television headquarters in Cairo. The 1,000 Christians represented the ancient Christian community of some 8 million whose presence in Egypt predates the establishment of Islam by several centuries. They gathered in Cairo to protest the recent burning of two churches by Islamic mobs and the rapid escalation of state-supported violent attacks on Christians by Muslim groups since the overthrow of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in February.
According to Coptic sources, the protesters Sunday night were beset by Islamic attackers who were rapidly backed up by military forces. Between 19 and 40 Copts were killed by soldiers and Muslim attackers. They were run over by mi

Has it ever occurred to a single "poor, exploited" worker or to a single socialist or Marxist that, by buying shares in his or her workplace, he or she becomes a part-owner?
The Tea Party and conservative media grew as a direct response to events in America. Now, the left is trying to contrive its own movement, but the results are wanting.
The grassroots activists of the Tea Party were never anything like the undisciplined circus that comprises the "Occupy Wall Street" activists of the left.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has pleaded guilty to all his terror charges. But have the policies of the Attorney General prevented the full truth of the case from being revealed?
For the last five years I have tried not to think of Gilad Shalit. I avoided the newspaper photographs of his first months as an Israel Defense Forces draftee, a boy playing soldier in an ill-fitting uniform. Sometimes, despite myself, I'd imagine him in a Gaza cellar, bound, perhaps wired with explosives to thwart a rescue attempt. And then I would force myself to turn away.
I tried not to think of Gilad because I felt guilty. Not only was I doing nothing to help the campaign to free him, I opposed its implicit demand that the Israeli government release as many terrorists as it takes to bring him home. Israel has no death penalty, and now we would lose the deterrence of prison: If the deal went through, any potential terrorist would know it was just a matter of time before he'd be freed in the next deal for the next kidnapped Israeli.
The ultimate symbol of Muslim Democracy may not end up being the purple fingers of the Iraqi ballots but the smoke from burning churches and dead Coptic Christians in Egypt. While Iraq was tenuously balanced between Shiites and Sunnis, Arabs and Kurds, there is no such balance in Egypt. The average Egyptian is a Sunni Arab and thinks Christians are dogs. Church burnings are as close as Egypt is ever likely to get to democracy and we should be happy for that.
The Muslim world is so enthusiastic about democracy because it allows the majority to slap around the minority-- at least more so than it's already doing. And when there isn't a clear majority to sit in the driver's seat, they throw in musical chairs coalitions of different ethnic and religious factions in between bouts of civil war.
That's the situation in Lebanon and in Iraq, but those countries are lucky because the minority there is a sizable enough to have a shot. That's more than can be said for Egypt's Christians who are big enough to be targets, but not big enough to take on the majority. Egypt and Iraq were the region's last bastions of Pan-Arabism, which allowed Christians Arabs a limited stake in the country, but an Iraq and Egypt defined by an Islamic identity are countries incompatible with a non-Muslim minority.
Minorities may do better under Muslim tyrannies than Muslim democracies, because dictators find a minority group with few options other than the regime to be useful. Libya's Africans did better under Khaddafi. Egypt's Christians did better under Mubarak. Dictators like a little divide and conquer because it keeps their people off balance. Democracies are another matter.
Here's your final exam question in Middle Eastern studies:
A mass of Coptic Christians marches through Cairo to protest the military government's failure to protect them from Muslim radicals. They are attacked by stone-throwing, club-wielding rowdies. Armed forces security personnel intervene, and the Copts fight it out with the soldiers, with two dozen dead and scores injured on both sides. Who is to blame?
The full credit answer is: Benjamin Netanyahu, for building apartments in Jerusalem. If that's not what you wrote, don't blame me if you can't get a job at the New York Times.
Rarely in the course of human events have so few been blamed for so much by so many. There are precedents, for example, when Adolf Hitler claimed that a Jewish "stab in the back" lost World War I for Germany. The notion that the problems of three hundred million...
ABC News has broken a story about the disruption of a major Iran-backed terrorist plot to stage an attack on U.S. soil. According to U.S. officials, the plan was to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States and to attack the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington D.C. Parallel attacks were planned for these two countries' embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The case is still being developed, and it isn't clear whether the origin of this plot goes back to Tehran. According to ABC's sources, Manssor Arbabsiar - an Iranian American living in Texas - approached an informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration, thinking he was speaking with a member of a Mexican drug gang for help in the proposed attacks. He said he was acting on behalf of a cousin, Gholam Shakuri, who might be a Revolutionary Guard official involved in terrorist operations.
Totten is a friend of mine. He is also a liberal. That he argues for a death penalty is significant. I strongly support the death penalty for terrorist murderers. Ted Belman
By Michael J. Totten, Commentary I hate the death penalty and always have, so I do not say this lightly, but it's high time even opponents of capital punishment start thinking seriously about executing convicted terrorists. Unlike even the worst criminals such as serial killers, terrorists remain dangerous to societies at large even after they've been locked up with life sentences because innocents outside the prison walls are frequently kidnapped to secure their release.
The Israeli government just struck a deal with Hamas to free Gilad Shalit, a soldier who was kidnapped five years ago near the border with Gaza. In exchange for Shalit's release, hundreds of Hamas prisoners will also be freed. All the hard work that went into capturing these people and removing them from the field has now been...
It is unclear what either Western governments or Western churches think they are achieving by turning a blind eye to the persecution of Christians in the Muslim world
On Sunday night, Egyptian Copts staged what was supposed to be a peaceful vigil at Egypt's state television headquarters in Cairo.
They were run over by military...
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet voted early Wednesday morning to approve a prisoner swap that will see Gilad Shalit, the IDF soldier who has been in Hamas captivity for the last five years, return to Israel.
Twenty-six ministers voted in favor of the deal, and three ministers - Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, National Infrastructure Minister Uzi Landau of Yisrael Beiteinu and Vice Prime Minister Moshe Ya'alon of Likud - voted against the proposal.
According to the agreement framework presented by Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen, the deal Netanyahu brought before the cabinet included, at first, the release of 450 Palestinian prisoners, including 280 with life sentences.
110 prisoners will be released to their homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, out of whom 55 are Hamas men, with the rest belonging to Fatah and the...
Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Columbia University show true colors with 9/11 Denying Rapper by Bill Levinson
9/11 denial is essentially the same thing as Holocaust denial, except it denies, excuses, or blames on somebody other than the known perpetrator four missing airplanes and two missing skyscrapers instead of six million missing Jews, three million missing Polish Catholics, and another million or so missing Gypsies and other undesirables of Hitler's Reich. The Students for Justice in Palestine have shown what they really stand for by inviting a hate-spewing 9/11-denying rap artist called Immortal Technique to perform at their upcoming event at Columbia University.
Here is what Immortal Technique has to say about 9/11. Of course, because it's rap from a friend of the Students for Justice in Palestine, almost every other word is profanity.
They tell you to listen, but they don't really tell you they mission They funded Al-Qaeda, and now they...
Democratic Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia is headlining a fundraiser this weekend for the controversial Council on American-Islamic Relations along with an imam tied to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing who urges the violent overthrow of the "filthy" U.S. government and the establishment of Islamic law.
CAIR's 17th annual banquet Saturday at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va., features the theme "Making Democracy Work for Everyone."
Imam Siraj Wahhaj, designated by the Justice Department as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in the WTC bombing, is promoted as a keynote speaker along with Moran.
I am reaching out to you in hopes of gaining your support. I have taken the liberty of attaching a PDF recounting a compelling story which I contributed to with the team at the Chester County Hero Fund (501c3).
For the last year, I have been training for the Marine Corps Marathon, which I will run on October the 30th (just shy of my 68th--birthday) in D.C.
I'm running to raise money to build an accessible home for Jay Raffetto a wounded Marine. Jay graduated from Conestoga H.S. with my daughter Jennifer in 2000. I always gave him positive encouragement through his parents about the virtues of military service. Jay became a medic with special operations (Force Recon, USMC) and unfortunately, last August he became a triple amputee-while on patrol in Afghanistan.
I'm asking for a donation to support his cause and I'm asking consideration for a Corporate Sponsorship as well---if possible. I think this is a compelling cause.
Please see attached PDF with instructions on the bottom of the sheet.
100% of your donation will go Jay and his wife Emily, Thanks in advance for your support of Jay, his family and our men and women in the Military.
Also please feel free to use this email and PDF to send to others you Feel might want to support this effort.
P.S. I know I can count on your help!

Muslim Turks conquered Constantinople in 1453, cutting off the land trade routes from Europe to India and China, so Europeans sought new routes. Muslims are forbidden to touch dogs. They believe any house where a dog is kept will never be entered by God's angels. If this was all there was to it, who could quarrel with their position? Jews can't eat pork (Muslims can't either) and Muslims can't have anything to do with dogs, what's the problem?
Actually, the Muslims themselves are the problem. Muslims, especially the Islamist Muslims can not and will not leave the question of dogs alone. Because they are taught by their religion that "Allah" commands them to kill dogs, they could not care less who owns a particular dog, they just kill the animal anyway.
On September 13, 2011, the Wall Street Journal noticed the Code Blue in the medical field. They have brought the coding disaster out into the open. Physicians have been dealing with the 18,000 codes of International Classification of Disease (ICD 9), coding their patients' diagnoses, and the tests and procedures done, all for the convenience of the government and third parties. Now there will be ICD-10, with 140,000 codes, 70,000 for diagnoses, and the rest for procedures. It's laughably absurd. Is there a code for "Driven insane by ICD-10 codes?"
ICD-10 code books will be larger, no doubt more expensive, and ridiculous. There is no way to come up with a code for the nuances of everything that happens in life, and it is sheer lunacy to try. But someone is trying to shoehorn medical events into 140,000 codes. Who cares whether it was a macaw or a parrot that bit someone? There are nine codes for each of the birds. You can be bitten, struck, or have "other contact with" a macaw, an initial encounter, a subsequent encounter, or sequela. Could petting a macaw be construed as a medical problem if someone got a rash from it? Would you code it "other contact with macaw" or "eczema"?
I received this from a friend of my husband's who wants people to wake up to what it is like to start a small business in this environment. Please read:
People need to understand what is happening to small businesses. I hate to say it like this but every day real people are "Going Galt" because of our government. It is really happening all across the country and I am now in that category.
I make candy. I make the kind of candy that people really like and they tell me things like "Wow, you should really sell this candy." Since I could use a few extra bucks, and I like making candy, I thought this was a really good idea. I should really look into this. So, I did what anyone that didn't know anything would do and I looked on the internet. Well, I can't afford to rent a store front complete with a fully stocked kitchen but I thought I might be able to afford a booth at a farmer's market. This idea seemed reasonable at the time. The local farmers markets are highly trafficked and seem to be a good location to sell my candy next to the farmers that are selling their fruits and vegetables. Not to mention all the other vendors that sell a wide variety of other items, from doughnuts to pasta. This is where I began to run into problems. If you want to sell candy at my local farmers market you have to do quite a few things.
I must have before I am allowed to sell my candy:
1)A seller's permit from the state so I can collect taxes and charge for taxes.
2)A County Health Permit for each county I am selling in.
3)A State of California Processed Food Registration
4)A County Health Permit from the product's point of production
5)Certificate of Auto Insurance
6)Certificate of General Liability with $500,000 of coverage.
7)$100 application fee
8)$40 booth rental
The net result of having to get all these permits, spend the time to get certified, spend the time to fight state and county bureaucracies, get registrations in order and spend the kind of money that it takes to do all of this? I'm not going to be selling my candy. Who cares, you might ask? Americans need to eat less candy because they are all overweight! Well, there is a very real economic loss for every decision that a potential small business person makes to not expand or not to even begin. There is an immediate loss of production from me and everyone that I may have potentially employed. Most people just can't afford to do all of this, they can't afford to spend the time, and they can't afford to pay for all of these permits/registrations/insurances and all of this other insanity. They just can't and won't do it. Now, some people will and they will put up with all of the craziness and bless them all and good luck. However, what we have created in our modern society is a complete and total stranglehold on business and entrepreneurship. Businesses cannot thrive or even begin in this environment.
This is only the beginning of the story as well. Do you have an idea for a formal business that you would like to start? Well, because the process is so difficult to start a business and so risky and you can be either thrown in jail for doing it wrong or sued and have everything you own forcibly taken from you, you have to hire a lawyer to set up your business for you. That's thousands of dollars in costs and that is just to make sure you start on the right footing. Then consider taxes. If you start a business in California, even if you lose every dollar you have ever put into the business from your personal accounts, you still have to pay the State $800 in taxes.
Don't even think about hiring an employee, in a former job I held, we knew the exact hourly cost of each employee in terms of taxes and insurances. A construction laborer would cost us $55/hr in total cost. When we wrote him a check and what he got to take home (dependent on how many deductions he took) was around $15/hr.
When Mary See started the famous See's Candies in the early part of the 20th century, she originally sold candy out of her husband's hotel for the enjoyment of his guests. I'm sure she didn't have permits and registrations and general liability and all the rest of that time wasting, productivity killing nonsense. When an American wants to take the risk of starting a business, WE, as a society and the ones in charge of our government should not be killing these businesses before they start. We should not be taxing them to death, we should not be killing them with insane laws and too numerous bureaucracies. These ideas and taking risks is what made this country into the economic powerhouse it is today. If we continue to tax, regulate and permit and register businesses the way we do today, we will gradually but forcefully lose our businesses and new businesses to places that do not suffocate their business endeavors.
The bottom line is that as Americans, it is in our national character, it is built into our fiber as a nation to be entrepreneurs and work hard to build something amazing. Our country was founded by and built by risk takers and entrepreneurs. The examples abound around us of people who took their life into their own hands, took a huge risk and ran with their idea and were richly rewarded for it. When we look at these incredible stories, what we miss are the multitudes of other who either took the risk and failed, with the system as a contributing factor, or the saddest case, those who never even tried because the system of business that we have established has become so burdensome and expensive.
Maybe one day I'll retire and have enough extra money and plenty of time to pursue making my candy and go through the elaborate process of trying to sell it. It's really good but with what it takes to sell it to people, I'm sorry you'll probably never know how good it really is.
Morning Bell: Jobs Plan Fails, but Obama Doesn't Get the Message
Mike Brownfield | October 13, 2011
When President Barack Obama began his Midwest "jobs tour" in August, he set out to campaign for the passage of a yet-to-be-released plan to turn around the country's stagnant economy. But after the details of that plan emerged-more stimulus spending and higher taxes-and when the Democrat-controlled Senate put the measure up for a vote this week, the President's plan was defeated. Even members of the President's own party opposed more taxing and spending as a way of pulling America out of its unemployment ditch.
Take Senator Jim Webb (D-VA), for example. The Hill reports that he opposes raising taxes on ordinary income during a time of recession and that the federal government should encourage people to invest in the economy instead of raising their income taxes. In Webb's own words
More details have emerged regarding the Iranian-backed terrorism plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's U.S. ambassador. A $100,000 payment to the alleged plotters was traced to an elite Iranian military branch, the Qods Force.
Home foreclosure proceedings are again on the rise, surging 19 percent in states like California where courts don't oversee the process. In states with court involvement, foreclosure proceedings increased 9 percent.
President Obama's health care law requires employers to offer health benefits to full-time employees. This employer mandate will price many unskilled workers out of full-time employment.
After paying the new health premiums, the minimum wage, payroll taxes, and unemployment insurance taxes, hiring a full-time worker will cost employers at least $10.03 per hour. Full-time workers with family health plans will cost $13.75 per hour. Employers who hire workers with productivity below these rates will lose money. Businesses employing less skilled workers will probably respond by dumping their employees onto the federally subsidized health care exchanges and replacing full-time positions with part-time jobs.
Moderately and highly skilled workers already cost more than this minimum to employ. Their employers will likely respond to the law by spending more on health benefits and reducing wages by a corresponding amount. The health care law will not increase their total compensation costs.
But it is an entirely different story for unskilled workers. Employers cannot reduce cash pay below the minimum wage. However, employers will not pay workers more than their productivity. No businesses will pay $14 per hour to employ a worker whose labor raises earnings by just $9 per hour. Businesses that pay workers more than their productivity quickly go out of business.
Employers hiring unskilled workers will respond to these higher costs in two ways. Many employers will forgo providing health benefits and dump workers onto the government health care exchanges. Doing so will incur a $2,000 penalty per full-time worker-far less than the cost of health premiums but still a $1 per hour increase in full-time employment costs. The employer mandate will also encourage employers to replace full-time jobs with part-time positions.
October 13, 2011House to Vote on Closing Obamacare Abortion Loopholes
Today, the House of Representatives will vote on the Protect Life Act introduced by Representative Joe Pitts (R-PA)-designed to ensure that no taxpayer dollars are used to fund abortion through the new healthcare law. The bipartisan bill, H.R. 358, is also sponsored by Representative Dan Lipinski (D-IL) and 144 additional co-sponsors.
Problems with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly referred to as "Obamacare," abound. In addition to the many fiscal and legal concerns raised by law, Obamacare represents a historic departure from the federal government's traditional stance on abortion funding and provides new avenues to promote elective abortion.
Since 1976 the Hyde Amendment, which forbids taxpayer funding of abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or threat to the mother's life, has been included in federal appropriations bills. When negotiations to include the full Hyde Amendment language in Obamacare failed, President Obama signed an Executive Order prohibiting federal funding of abortion. Unless Congress acts to make the application permanent, however, this order is subject to reversal by either executive decision or judicial intervention.
Obamacare includes multiple problematic provisions with respect to the federal role in funding elective abortion. As a result of the defects in the law, a federal tax credit will be made available to assist in the purchase of private health plans that cover abortion.
Additionally, the limited and loose conscience protections outlined in Obamacare could leave pro-life medical professionals with no protection to practice their profession in accord with their personal beliefs. Implementation of Obamacare to date, including the most recent preventive care mandates from HHS, has demonstrated that abortion-funding features permeate the law.
The bill before the House today would apply Hyde Amendment language to the entirety of Obamacare, prohibiting use of any federal funds for abortion even through use of the new affordability tax credit.
The Protect Life Act also ensures that the conscience rights of medical professionals who decline to participate, refer, or perform abortions are respected by any government entity receiving funding under Obamacare.
Like the villain in a horror movie, the many-lived millionaire tax is once again back from the dead. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) dusted off this economically frightening tax hike that has repeatedly failed to pass Congress to pay for President Obama's jobs plan (American Jobs Act of 2011, S. 1660) after Senate Democrats rejected the tax hikes the President proposed to pay for his bill.
This is the third time in the past two years that congressional Democrats have proposed a millionaire tax. The first time it was a 5.4 percent surtax to pay for health care reform. The second time was in "the People's Budget" released by the Congressional Progressive Caucus. It failed to garner much support either time.
If the third time is the charm for the millionaire tax to become law, the economy would suffer lasting damage and reduced international competitiveness. And American workers would bear the brunt of the pain.
A former Democratic governor of Indiana says a petition to place Barack Obama on the state ballot during the 2008 Democratic presidential primary is not his, raising the question of voter fraud. Former Governor Joe Kernan, a Democrat, replied, "No, not at all," when the South Bend (Indiana) Tribune asked if the signature, which helped qualify Obama for the ballot, belonged to him.
The newspaper reports it has spoken to at least 40....

Joe Biden's Big Government Die-atribe
Ben Johnson, The White House Watch
When he was running for president, Barack Obama promised to "beat back the politics of fear." Yesterday, his vice president told a crime-ridden, bankrupt Michigan city that if the American Jobs Bill does not pass untold scores of people will be raped and murdered.
Speaking at Fire Station One in Flint, Michigan, Joe Biden said a high crime rate and the failure to pass Obama's $447 billion proposal create a "mixture for cancer" - and that cancer is here. We've got trouble right here in River City!
"If anyone listening doubts there's a direct correlation between the reduction of cops and firefighters and the rise in concerns about public safety they need look no further than your city, Mr. Mayor," he said to a visibly unflattered Mayor Dayne Walling, himself a Democrat.
In 2008, when Flint had 265 sworn officers on their police force, there were 35 murders and 91 rapes in this city. In 2010, when Flint had only 144 police officers, the murder rate climbed to 65 and rapes-just to pick two categories-climbed to 229. In 2011, you now only have 125 shields. God only knows what the numbers will be this year for Flint if we don't rectify it. And God only knows what that number would have been had we not been able to get a little bit of help to you.
The FBI states Biden's speech - which probably won't be featured on any Flint tourism brochure - got the numbers wrong. However, the city has an embarrassingly high crime rate.

"Boy, the wife is getting on my nerves. She keeps giving me sympathy cards for being unemployed."
"Ah, yes, you speak of a new line of greeting cards from Hallmark. What do the cards say?"
"'Don't think of it as losing your job,' reads one. 'Think of it as a time-out between stupid bosses.'"
"An interesting way to console someone who is out of work."
"And awfully patronizing, if you asked me. It makes the person giving the card feel good and the unemployed slob receiving it feel worse. Here's the last one the wife got me: 'Losing your job does not define you. What you do about it does.'"
"Sounds a little preachy. Still, you have to hand it to the Hallmark people. With unemployment stuck at more than 9 percent, why not make dough exploiting a new market niche?"
"Well, if they're willing to exploit something as crappy as losing your job, why not exploit other lousy occasions?"
California has long held the reputation as being one of the most sexually permissive states in the union. Between the huge gay communities, nude bike rides through towns, nude beaches and history of liberal sexual protests, areas of the state are hot beds for hedonism and promiscuity.
Over the years, not only has the state led the way of sexual openness, but they have also led the way to taking away the rights of parents in knowing about the activities of their minor children. Among the loss of parental rights was a measure that gave kids as young as 12 years of age the right to seek out the diagnosis and treatment of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).
This past Sunday, California Governor Jerry Brown sign Assembly Bill 499 into law that goes a step further in providing preventive care for children 12 and over to prevent contracting STD's or drug related diseases such as hepatitis B. The new law provides for vaccines for HPV, HIV and hepatitis to be made available to teens without parental consent or knowledge.
"We must make our election between economy and Liberty, or profusion and servitude." --Thomas Jefferson
By now, you're aware that the seeds of socialist dissent are being sown across our great nation, mostly within the fetid soil of urban centers, where cadres of activists coalesce under the aegis of "Occupy [fill in the blank]." It would be difficult to avoid the fanfare, given the amount of Leftmedia coverage (read: promotion) that these protests receive.
According to my colleague Brent Bozell at Media Research Center, the protests were the subject of "more broadcast network stories in the first nine days than the Tea Party drew in the first nine months."
Typical of the adoring coverage was this missive from ABC's Diane Sawyer, who claimed the occupiers "have spread to more than 250 American cities, more than a thousand countries -- every continent but Antarctica." (Seriously, this drama queen actually said "more than a thousand countries.")
In stark ideological contrast to the Tea Party Movement, which seeks to restore Liberty and Rule of Law as enshrined in our Constitution, the socialist "Flea Party" movement occupying city blocks across our nation is composed of the latest generation of useful idiots and debauched opportunists.
Conservative political observers have uniformly written off these protests because they're populated by the usual suspects -- a mix of leftist protagonists supported by Ivy League ignorati, collegiate lemmings, paid union thugs, the socially disenfranchised, and a handful of unwitting poor folks. Though these protestors exhibit limited "intellectual occupancy," I would caution that underestimating the threat to Liberty that these Occupier protests pose is a serious error. Reputable polling firms find that more than 35 percent of likely voters support the protests.
As our editors have comprehensively revealed through the pages of The Patriot Post, from the time Obama first emerged on the national political scene in 2004, to the rise of his present-day regime, Team Obama has crafted a perilous national security crisis bent on "fundamentally transforming the United States of America" by imploding free enterprise and replacing it with Democratic Socialism.
So, while the Occupiers are of many guises their common thread is a storm-trooper adherence to Obama's Marxist agenda.
The mob movement was organized by "Occupy Wall Street," a front for the Marxist General Assembly movement, whose communications director, Brian Phillips, clearly articulated the organization's primary objective "to overthrow the government."
That goal has been echoed in the last two weeks from coast to coast, as affirmed by an Occupy LA leader, who proclaimed that nonviolence is not an option: "[T]he bourgeoisie won't go without violent means. Revolution! Yes, revolution that is led by the working class. Long live revolution! Long live socialism!"
Their populist national slogan, "99 percenters v. 1 percenters," implies that the American people are 99-to-1 in favor of forcibly redistributing the possessions of the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans to the other 99 percent.
This slogan, and its underlying message, is being promoted by William Ayers, the former Weather Underground radical. Ayers issued a "collective statement" for the Occupiers concluding "that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power."
As you may recall, Ayers is a close friend and former neighbor of Obama back in Barack's "community organizer" days in the fashionable Hyde Park section of Chicago. It was Ayers who hosted, in his own home, the first fundraiser for Obama's successful 1996 Illinois State Senate campaign, thus launching BO's political career.
This latest rash of socialist protests has crafted its classist message around the revolution-tested politics of disparity, under the leadership of old-school radicals like Ayers.
They are building on Obama's classist theme of "asking people who have benefited the most over the last decade to share in the sacrifice." Of the current 99-percenter protests, Obama concludes, "I think it expresses the frustrations the American people feel."
Obama's DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was a bit more candid: "The protests are symbolic of the frustration that middle class folks and working people feel. ... We understand their frustration, we applaud their activism and hopefully they're going to help get the Republicans in Washington's attention so we shift the Republicans' focus from just Barack Obama's job, to everyone's job."
Nancy Pelosi added, "The message of the protesters is a message for the establishment everyplace. No longer will the recklessness of some on Wall Street cause massive joblessness on Main Street. ... God bless them for their spontaneity. It's independent ... it's young, it's spontaneous, it's focused. And it's going to be effective."
Obama's "Red October" uprising takes its inspiration from the 1917 Social Democratic Labour Party protests in Russia, which gave rise to the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Then, as now, the economy was in serious decline. Then, as now, Bolshevik revolutionaries were young, some 85 percent of them under age 30. Then, as now, they issued decrees giving rise to "the most militant and class-conscious" protests.
When their protests had grown to sufficient strength, the Socialist Democrats concluded, "an armed uprising is inevitable, and that the time for it is fully ripe."
It was a brief and bloody revolution, and at its conclusion, the protestors implemented policies that mirror proposals advocated by SDLP of today, the Occupiers: All real property was seized and redistributed, companies and factories were nationalized, all private wealth was confiscated by the state, Church properties were seized, and debts were repudiated.
Fast-forward about 100 years to the "99 percenters v. 1 percenters."
Today, almost 35 percent of Americans are dependent upon government subsidies, and 40 percent of Americans pay no income tax and thus have no stake in the cost of government. Consequently, most are predisposed to vote for the redistribution of others' incomes rather than work for their own. Further, if the Supreme Court rules that ObamaCare comports with the so-called "living constitution" rather than strikes it down based upon Rule of Law, by 2013 the number of Americans who depend on the largess of the central government will swell to well over 50 percent.
Combine the dependent ranks, the sprouting seeds of socialist unrest and the grim reality that the American economy is at serious risk of collapsing altogether under the Obama "debt bomb", and we have all the ingredients for an even bigger Red October uprising today and just before the election of 2012.
Should Barack Hussein Obama be re-elected in 2012, a prospect that, admittedly, seems rather inconceivable today, it would create the proverbial "perfect storm" to finish transforming the national landscape from one characterized by Liberty to one smothered by tyranny.
America is a great nation with a resilient economy and political system, but it is only kept so to the extent that the American people uphold the principles and values upon which that greatness is founded. However, for those who remain complacent in the belief that Liberty is self-perpetuating, that the question of transition of power by bullets rather than ballots is archaic, I remind you that those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it. Of such complacency, Samuel Adams wrote, "If ye love wealth better than Liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"
Sue, the representative who answered the phone, starts out by saying that "Our clinic will actually do an elective procedure up until about 28 weeks." When the caller explains she cannot pay for the abortion due to her unemployed status, the agent explains that her type of Medicaid covers the late-term abortion.
If you are curious as to what the filthy Occupy Wall Street Zuccotti Park marxist/anarchist commune (inhabited by Obama/Democrat comrades) looks like from the inside...that is.

Recorded October 9-11, 2011 (day 23, 24, 25). A snapshot at some of the communal facilities and activities in the Occupy Wall Street encampment at Zuccotti/Liberty Plaza/Liberty Park.
The community space include the People's Library, a kitchen and food prep area, information and outreach desk, a closed off media and press area, a shrine/meditation area, the occupy wall street drum circle, sanitation, garbage disposal, composting and recycling, legal observers, and an arts and crafts area.
My God. And the OWS miscreants do not think they should have to obey orders to vacate so their crud can be scrubbed from what was once a lovely green oasis, as they are planning to resist. That ought to end really well.
This video has been brought to you by the 'indoctrination education society of America'. The freaks squatting in Zuccotti Park are a prime example of what the education system has done to the minds of our youth.

2012 Update
As I noted yesterday, the Republican presidential primary contest is wide open. New polling data today provides the proof. As always, it is important to note that polls are just snap shots in time and do not predict future results. But the data do show a turbulent race and serve as a warning for the presumed front-runner.
A new NBC/Wall Street Journal finds Herman Cain now leading Mitt Romney. Here's how the poll breaks down the field: Cain 27%, Romney 23%, Perry 16%, Paul 11%, Gingrich 8%, Bachmann 5%, Huntsman 3% and Santorum 1%.
Here's the warning for Romney: His numbers haven't moved since August. And, in fact, they are down since July. As Bachmann and Perry have risen and fallen, why has Mitt Romney not gained support? Romney's HQ better start thinking long and hard about why it is having such difficulty attracting conservative support, and how it intends to energize and turnout conservative voters if Romney wins the nomination.
The latest Rasmussen poll finds Cain and Romney tied at 29%, followed by Newt Gingrich at 10%. No other candidate, not even Rick Perry (9%), is in double digits. Is Gingrich emerging as a top competitor?
Cain's surge is not an aberration. Since October four polls (including the three most recent polls) have found Cain tied or leading in the race for the GOP nomination. To make some sense of the varying data, check out the RealClearPolitics.com (RCP) polling averages. Averaging the results of the 10 most recent polls finds Mitt Romney leading with 22.7%, followed closely by Herman Cain at 20.3%. Texas Governor Rick Perry's support has collapsed to 13.7%.
How do the leading Republican candidates fare against Barack Obama? According to Rasmussen, Obama leads Romney 43%-to-41%. He leads Herman Cain 42%-to-39%, and he leads Rick Perry 49%-to-35%. So even as bad as Obama's ratings are, our leading candidates at best only tie Obama right now. Clearly we cannot take this election for granted. We still have a lot of work to do to make sure we prevail in November 2012.
OWS Eviction Notice
The Occupy Wall Street movement has been given an eviction notice. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has told the group to clear out of Zuccotti Park so that it can be cleaned. But just days ago, Bloomberg said the protestors could stay "indefinitely." What explains the mayor's sudden turnaround?
To begin with, the park is private property. The management company that oversees the park sent a frank letter to the commissioner of the New York City Police Department Tuesday demanding that the protestors be evicted.
In the letter, the company complains about "unsanitary and unsafe" conditions in the park and "offensive odors." The management company has received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from area residents complaining about thefts, harassment and illegal activity, including drug use. It is worth noting that this was not the company's first request to the city to clear the park.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has told protestors they must leave Zuccotti Park by Friday morning, and they won't be allowed to bring their sleeping bags back to the park once it is reopened. So far there is no indication that the radicals will go quietly. In fact, they are asking for donations of mops and brooms to clean up the park themselves, and say the company's demands amount to an "eviction notice." Stay tuned!
What Do They Want?
I think there is something else motivating Mayor Bloomberg's sudden desire to get this mob off his streets. It is just that -- a mob that runs the risk of seriously embarrassing liberals. And the more the public sees of it, the less there is to like.
In fact, some liberals are now trying to distance themselves from this radical movement, which the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently compared to the great American middle class. Consider these excerpts from the liberal editors of The New Republic:
"But, to draw on the old cliché, the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. ...the volume of interviews, speeches, and online declarations associated with the protests does make it possible to arrive at some broad generalizations about what Occupy Wall Street stands for. And these, in turn, suggest a few reasons for liberals to be nervous about the movement.
"One of the core differences between liberals and radicals is that liberals are capitalists. They believe in a capitalism that is democratically regulated... But these are not the principles we are hearing from the protesters. Instead, we are hearing calls for the upending of capitalism entirely. ...And so, on the question of how liberals should feel about Occupy Wall Street, count us as deeply skeptical."
In a column today, George Will identifies some of the issues making the editors of The New Republic skeptical:
"Demands posted in OWS's name include a 'guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment'; a $20-an-hour minimum wage...; ending 'the fossil fuel economy'; 'open borders' so 'anyone can travel anywhere to work and live'; $1 trillion for infrastructure; $1 trillion for 'ecological restoration' (e.g., re-establishing 'the natural flow of river systems'); 'free college education.' And forgiveness of 'all debt on the entire planet period.'"
Don't be fooled by the media's spin on these protests. They do not represent the middle class. This is the far left fringe. The applause and affirmation for the Occupy Wall Street movement that is coming from Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore and other leading Democrats speaks volumes about what a second Obama term could look like.
House Defends Life
Today the House of Representatives is taking up a bill that will guarantee no taxpayer dollars are used to pay for abortions under ObamaCare. This is not a controversial issue. In poll after poll, overwhelming majorities of the public oppose taxpayer funding of abortions. But the Democrat response to this bill is very revealing.
Nancy Pelosi said, "Under this bill, when the Republicans vote for this bill today, they will be voting to say that women can die on the floor and health care providers don't have to intervene if this bill is passed. It's just appalling." As usual, Pelosi is wrong.
The Protect Life Act simply writes into law Obama's own executive order against abortion funding. You may recall that this fig leaf got a handful of Democrats, like former Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), to agree to vote for ObamaCare. Without that order, ObamaCare never would have passed.
Speaking before Congress, President Obama once declared, "[U]nder our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions..." Yet President Obama is threatening to veto the Protect Life Act.
If ObamaCare really does prohibit taxpayer funding of abortions, why is Nancy Pelosi so hysterical? Why is Obama threatening to veto a bill that reaffirms his own order and public statements? Their reaction speaks volumes. They deceived the American people to get ObamaCare passed. House Republicans are exposing Obama's executive order for what it really is -- a lie.
GOP Elite Declares War on Tea Party
RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, there's a big piece in the New York Times Magazine coming this weekend. It is entitled: "Does Anyone Have a Grip on the GOP?" The subhead: "The Republican Elite Tries to Take Its Party Back." This article prints like 24 pages. It is a major, major New York Times Magazine piece. It confirms everything that I have thought, everything I have speculated, everything I have said about the battle between the Republican elite and the Tea Party.
I can't read the whole thing on the program; I don't intend to. I've got some highlights or quotes that are illustrative here, but this is an open declaration of war from the GOP elites to the Tea Party, and it's right there in the New York Times. And these Republican establishment types are more than willing to be quoted by name, and what I think it all means is they think that they've beaten the Tea Party hordes back. Do you realize that Chuck Schumer and a bunch of Democrats are running around campaigning now against the Tea Party. The Tea Party poses the greatest threat to this country. The Tea Party is a bunch of racist, sexist bigots. This is the message and the Republican elite, while not joining word for word that message, are still joining with the Democrats in the notion that the Tea Party is a problem and needs to be beaten back.
It wasn't that long ago that Republican moneymen and operatives in Washington were moping around K Street like Eeyore in the Hundred Acre Wood, lamenting their party's extremist image and casting about for a candidate with a chance of beating Barack Obama in 2012. Citing what he called the "near self-immolation" of House Republicans during the debt-ceiling fiasco, Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, worried in early August that a "large number of Republican primary voters, and even more independent general-election voters, will be wary of supporting a Republican candidate in 2012 if the party looks as if it's in the grip of an infantile form of conservatism."

Herman Cain: A Grave Dilemma for Democrats and White Liberals
By Palash R. Ghosh
The ever-prominent presidential candidacy of Herman Cain raises a plethora of interesting questions, not least of which is how he will be treated by the Democratic Party, white liberals and the mainstream media.
As an African-American Republican, Cain has already been castigated as a kind of "freak" or, at worst, a "traitor" by some of his opponents. However, most of these aspersions have been hurled by prominent blacks, including Princeton Professor Cornell West and entertainer Harry Belafonte.
West said Cain needs to "get off the symbolic crack pipe" and acknowledge the widespread presence of racism. To which, Cain replied: "That's the difference between someone who has spent their life in academia and someone who has spent their life in the real world. I've been in the real world. He's been in academia. So he's back on this symbolic stuff ... Professor West has been in academia too long. He is out of touch with the real world."

New Roadblock to E-Verify Victory Emerges
House Ways and Means Committee Sitting On E-Verify Bill: Are They Trying to Kill It?
Help Now and Your Gift Will Be Matched Dollar for Dollar
It's Jim Robb again, speaking for the whole wonderful NumbersUSA team.
The Open Borders Coalition will not go down without a fight. Getting illegal aliens out of American jobs they don't deserve has never been popular with many in Congress.
Some Members of Congress give enforcement measures like E-Verify lip service, but they can't be counted on to act when they have the chance.
Is this what we're now seeing with the House Ways and Means Committee sitting on H.R. 2885, Rep Lamar Smith's mandatory E-Verify bill? Sure looks that way.
Here are four quick facts:
1) 22 million Americans cannot find a full-time job.
2) Chairman Lamar Smith's (R-TX) E-Verify bill, the Legal Workforce Act, will free up millions of these jobs for the legal workers who deserve them.
3)E-Verify has cleared its biggest single hurdle, when it passed (without crippling amendments!) through the House Judiciary Committee.
4) Now, the House Ways and Means Committee must either agree to the bill or just send it directly to the House Floor for action. If Ways and Means doesn't agree to H.R. 2885, the bill will probably go nowhere, that is, die.
The truth is, if we fail to get H.R. 2885 past the Ways and Means Committee, all our hard work this year will have been for nothing! We must get that committee to send this bill on to the Floor.
Will you help us get that done this month? Next month may well be too late. Please press the big red button and make a generous contribution this month. Thank you!
More about the Ways and Means Committee and E-Verify
You may ask, "Why does the Ways and Means Committee have jurisdiction over an immigration enforcement bill? Give me a sec and I'll unpack this. One of the greatest features of H.R. 2885 are the "No Match" letters to employers and the "Multiple Match" notices to employees.
These identify illegal aliens using fictitious or stolen identities. They will lead to mass firings of illegal aliens who currently have jobs.
Both the "No Match" letters and the multiple match letters sections of H.R. 2885 are connected to the Social Security Administration. The House Ways and Means Committee has jurisdiction over those parts of the bill. If Chairman Lamar Smith is forced to strip out those provisions, MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS would have permanent access to jobs they have already gained illegally.
What's the Motive of the Ways and Means Committee?
And why would the Ways and Means Committee be blocking this bill anyway? Do they have legitimate differences on policy issues? Is it out of spite or legislative turf protecting? Sure looks that way. Whatever the reason for them sitting on this bill, the result is millions of Americans left without work because illegal aliens are filling the jobs!
Linda, are you content to see that happen? Let me ask it another way. Are you determined to get the ENTIRE E-VERIFY BILL, including the N0 MATCH AND MULTIPLE MATCH LETTERS, SIGNED INTO LAW?
Good. Me, too! But here at NumbersUSA, we're in total battle mode. We're sending faxes like there is no tomorrow. We're pushing forward new technology to help in the effort. How Players Unions Are Killing SportsBy Ben Shapiro The bottom line: Members of the NBA Players Union are grabbing for a chunk of something that isn't theirs in the first place. And that's what players unions have been doing in every sport, driving up costs that are passed on to the consumer.
Last week I told you some well-meaning, but in my opinion very misguided pro-gunners are working to pass a bill that could turn into a Trojan Horse for more gun control.
I was talking about H.R. 822, the so-called "National Reciprocity Act," which could open the flood gates of gun control.
I'm calling it the National CCW Registration Act.
While the idea that all states should recognize a concealed weapons permit is sound public policy, the use of the anti-gun federal bureaucracy to implement it is simply foolish.
Can I count on you to take action RIGHT NOW? Rep. Lamar Smith is the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee that will hear H.R. 822, the National CCW Registration Act.
I need you to call House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith and make clear that you want to keep the government's hands off your permit and that you are opposed to federal intrusion into the concealed weapons permit process.
Once the federal government is in the business of setting the standards for concealed carry permits, it's only a matter of time before they start using that power to restrict our rights.
Now you may hear arguments that this bill doesn't do that, and maybe that's true... for now.
Even worse, once this bill starts moving, anyone can amend the bill with anything... and no legislation can bind a future Congress in any way.
That doesn't count what Obamacrats in the Department of Justice might dream up as the "regulations" to carry out the legislative "intent."
Gun owners have enough trouble with Republican-run Executive branches implementing the law improperly. Does anyone really think the Obama Administration is going to treat gun owners fairly?
I know many of you are frustrated that you can carry in some states but not others -- I'm frustrated, too.
I carry concealed every day, everywhere I go, and have worked to expand the ability of citizens to carry in dozens of states.
I believe I should be able to carry concealed -- without a permit -- in all 50 states. That's what "bear arms" means. Believe me, that's a long-term policy goal for the National Association for Gun Rights.
But mark my words, H.R. 822, the National CCW Registration Act, will become nothing more than a Trojan Horse for even more federal gun control.
I understand that many who support this bill sincerely just want their right to carry respected -- but cannot due to the fact that their state or another won't do the right thing.
But the devil is truly in the details... and the details are where H.R. 822 gets sticky.
This bill isn't just about the right to carry for self defense -- it's a battle over the role of government and the ability to restrict our Second Amendment rights.
Once gun owners let the Obamacrats start mandating whether states recognize permit reciprocity, they will want to mandate what it takes to get and keep those permits.
We're talking about:
More onerous standards to acquire a permit, so that only FBI agents can pass muster (look at New York's permit system);
Higher fees;
More training requirements;
A demonstration of "Need" for a permit;
More frequent renewal periods;
Federally-mandated waiting periods;
A national database of all permit holders, accessible by Attorney General Eric Holder;
An extensive, federally-created list of Criminal Safezones, where only criminals will carry and where law-abiding gun owners are vulnerable;
The list of potential problems is endless.
I need you to call House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith at (202)225-4236 and make clear that you want to keep the government's hands off your permit and that you oppose federal intrusion into the concealed weapons permit process.
I haven't even mentioned that this legislation would shred the Constitutional Carry provisions that are on the books in Arizona, Alaska, Vermont and Wyoming.
It doesn't stop with just concealed carry. They'll co-opt the bill to expand the national Brady Registration Check system to block military veterans with PTSD or individuals with misdemeanor convictions from even OWNING firearms -- much less use them for self defense.
I don't believe the intentions of the bill sponsors are intrinsically bad -- they're just naive and misguided.
Many statists in Washington will co-opt H.R. 822 as part of their grab for more federal power and less individual liberty.
Even now, the statists in Congress are trying to adopt a National ID card, complete with biometric data that they've forced the states to conform to their mandated drivers license "standards." The National Association for Gun Rights has been part of a group of liberty-minded organizations which have passed state legislation forbidding cooperation with a National ID card.
While many in the institutional gun control lobby will tell you this is a step forward for CCW permit holders, make no mistake, the National CCW Registration Act is a misguided attempt to protect our rights. It's like asking the fox to guard the hen house.
They will use this bill as the foundation to create a federal database of CCW permit holders. And then they can link it everywhere the Feds have database connections -- state police, doctors and insurance companies under Obamacare, and Medicaid/Medicare.
I'm sorry, but I refuse to entrust my liberty and privacy to a "trust us, they won't do that" approach to dealing with Obama, the gun-grabbers or frankly most politicians of either party in Washington.
I need you to make some noise, right now!
Here's what you can do to help
1.I need you to call House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith at 202-225-4236 and make clear that you want to keep the government's hands off your permit and you are opposed to federal intrusion into the concealed weapons permit process.
It's imperative that we stop H.R. 822 -- the National CCW Registration Act -- before it gathers steam and support.
Liberal Republicans and so-called "conservative" Democrats are looking for an easy "pro-gun" vote to give them cover before the next election.
A Trojan Horse gun control bill like H.R. 822 is exactly the kind of legislation that will get support on both sides of the aisle in Washington D.C. And remember, the Democrat-controlled Senate has to pass it before it gets to Obama... so this bill will only get worse.
That's why you and I have to make noise, now!
Please call House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith at 202-225-4236 and relay the message that gun owners oppose H.R. 822, the Trojan Horse gun control bill. Make clear that you want to keep the federal government's hands off the state-run CCW permit system.
Thank you for joining me in this important fight against the National CCW Registration Act.
For Freedom,
Dudley Brown Executive Director
P.S. Please call House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith at 202-225-4236andmake clear that you want to keep thegovernment's hands off your permit. Tell him you oppose federal intrusion into the concealed weapons permit process.
The Obama administration will be tempted to respond against Iran with further unilateral and multilateral sanctions. More sanctions aren't a bad idea-targeted sanctions against the Revolutionary Guards and the sale of gasoline made from Iranian crude can hurt Tehran financially. But they will not scare it. The White House needs to respond militarily to this outrage. If we don't, we are asking for it.
In the 1980s and '90s, the U.S. failed to take Secretary of State George Shultz's wise counsel after Khomeini's minions bombed us in Lebanon. We didn't make terrorism a casus belli, instead treating it as a crime, only lobbing a few missiles at Afghan rock huts and a Sudanese pharmaceutical plant. But we should treat it as a casus belli. The price we will pay now will surely be less than the price we will pay later.
In his joint press conference with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak this morning, Obama addressed a question regarding the Iranian terror plot in the answer given below in its entirety:
We have a situation here where the Attorney General has laid out a very specific set of facts. What we know is that an individual of Iranian-American descent was involved in a plot to assassinate the ambassador to the United States from Saudi Arabia. And we also know that he had direct links, was paid by and directed by individuals in the Iranian government.
Now, those facts are there for all to see. And we would not be bringing forward a case unless we knew exactly how to support all the allegations that are contained in the indictment.
So we have contacted all our allies, the international community; we've laid the facts before them. And we believe that after people have analyzed them, there will not be a dispute that this is, in fact, what happened.
This is a - not just a dangerous escalation; this is part of a pattern of dangerous and reckless behavior by the Iranian government. One of the principles of international behavior is that our diplomats - we send them around the world - that they are going to be protected, they are not targets for threats or physical violence. And for Iran to have been involved in a plot like this indicates the degree to which it has been outside of accepted norms of international behavior for far too long. This is just one example of a series of steps that they've taken to create violence and to behave in a way that you don't see other countries doing.
So with respect to how we respond, our first step is to make sure that we prosecute those individuals that have been named in the indictment. And I will leave to the Attorney General the task of describing how that will proceed.
The second thing that we're going to continue to do is to apply the toughest sanctions and continue to mobilize the international community to make sure that Iran is further and further isolated and that it pays a price for this kind of behavior.
Keep in mind that when I came into office I think Iran saw itself as being able to play various countries against each other and avoid the kind of isolation that it deserved. Since that time, what we've seen, whether it relates to its nuclear program or its state-sponsored terrorism, that more and more countries have been willing to speak out in forceful ways, whether through the United Nations or through other avenues, to say this is not acceptable behavior. And it is having an impact. I mean, what we've seen is Iran's economy is in a much more difficult state now than it was several years ago, in part because we've been able to unify the international community in naming Iran's misbehavior and saying that it's got to stop and there are going to be consequences to its actions.
Now, we don't take any options off the table in terms of how we operate with Iran. But what you can expect is that we will continue to apply the sorts of pressure that will have a direct impact on the Iranian government until it makes a better choice in terms of how it's going to interact with the rest of the international community.
There is great similarity between how Iran operates and how North Korea operates - a willingness on their part to break international rules, to flout international norms, to not live up to their own commitments. And each time they do that the United States will join with its partners and allies in making sure that they pay a price.
And I think that - I have to emphasize that this plot was not simply directed at the United States of America. This is a plot that was directed against the Saudi ambassador. And I think that what you're going to see is folks throughout the Middle East region questioning their ability to work effectively with Iran. This builds on the recognition within the region that Iran in fact has been hypocritical when it comes to dealing with the Arab Spring, given their own repressive activities inside their country, their willingness to prop up the Syrian regime at a time when they're killing their own citizens.
This is a pattern of behavior that I think increasingly the international community is going to consider out of bounds and is going to continue to punish Iran for. Unfortunately, the Iranian people are the ones that probably suffer the most from this regime's behavior. And we will continue to work to see how we can bring about a Iranian government that is actually responsive to its people but also following the rules of the road that other countries in the international community follow.
"I have to emphasize that this plot was not simply directed at the United States of America. This is a plot that was directed against the Saudi ambassador." Wow.
If it weren't so pathetic, it would really be laughable. This was an act of war, pal. Ralph Kramden radiated more more menace than you.
Given the extraordinary media attention that was paid to fictitious claims of racism at Tea Party rallies, it is amusing to see the press avert its eyes from repeated incidents of anti-Semitism at Occupy Wall Street protests, even as Democratic politicians endorse the "movement" almost unanimously and without qualification. A group called the Emergency Committee for Israel produced this short video titled "Hate at Occupy Wall Street."
It wouldn't hurt to give Obama, Pelosi et al. a call to express disapproval of their tolerance of such sentiments.
Conservatives are generally concerned about voter fraud, while liberals, almost universally, are not. That in itself tells you something. Of course, liberals don't explicitly come out in favor of voter fraud; rather, they argue that lax enforcement of election laws is no problem because voter fraud hardly exists.
The problem with this easy assurance is that we have no clear way to know how prevalent voter fraud is. By definition, those who perpetrate it seek to go undetected, and it is a circular argument to say that there is no need for better law enforcement because our current lax enforcement hasn't caught many violators.
Here in Minnesota, a group called Minnesota Majority has done an excellent job of digging into the voter fraud issue. Today, Minnesota Majority sent out an email announcing its report on criminal convictions that have resulted from its efforts here in Minnesota. It said, in part:
The report finds that 113 individuals who voted illegally in the 2008 election have been convicted of the crime, "ineligible voter knowingly votes" under Minnesota Statute 201.014.
"As far as we can tell, this is the largest number of voter fraud convictions arising from a single election in the past 75 years," said Minnesota Majority president Jeff Davis, "Prosecutions are still underway and so there will likely be even more convictions."
The highest number of convictions ever recorded in the United States came from the 1936 Jackson County, Missouri elections in which 259 individuals were convicted of voter fraud. A more recent five-year probe by the United States Department of Justice identified just 53 convictions for voter fraud nationwide.
"It's mind-boggling to me that as a tiny non-profit corporation, we netted more than double the number of convictions in one year than the US Department of Justice was able to find in five," said Davis.
Minnesota's recent charges and convictions stem from research initiated by Minnesota Majority. The research identified upwards of 2,800 ineligible felons believed to have unlawfully voted in Minnesota's 2008 general election.
"These convictions are just the tip of the iceberg," said Davis. "The actual number of illegal votes cast was in the thousands. Most unlawful voters were never charged with a crime because they simply pled ignorance. We have evidence of these people casting illegal ballots, but in Minnesota, ignorance of election law is considered to be an acceptable defense."
At the time of this report, nearly 200 additional cases are still pending trial.
Are a few thousand illegal voters a big deal? When a U.S. Senate race can be decided by 300 votes, they certainly are. In my opinion, there is little doubt that in the famous 2008 Senate race between Norm Coleman and Al Franken, more legal votes were cast for Coleman. Yet it is Franken who now sits in the Senate, and Franken cast the vote the Democrats needed to pass Obamacare.
Minnesota Majority is doing a great job not only of uncovering the crime of voter fraud, but of deterring its future commission. I am not sure whether similar efforts are underway in other states, but if they aren't, they should be.
We have a lot to worry about right now. I'm not sure I have room to add another item to my worry list. Yet the Washington Post article on the controversy aroused by the planning for an Eisenhower memorial designed by Frank Gehry raises a new concern:
The controversy, both in the Eisenhower family and in the public, comes as Gehry's concept for a memorial to the 34th president has been focused on what he calls "the barefoot boy" from Kansas.
Taken from a speech given by Eisenhower after he returned from the Second World War to his home town of Abilene, the barefoot boy image stresses Eisenhower's simple roots and prevailing modesty.
To realize that visually, Gehry designed the memorial as a set of woven metal tapestries hung from large stone pillars that includes a wintry scene of the Kansas landscape. As Gehry has worked in collaboration with avant-garde theater artist Robert Wilson and focused on the theme of humility, the design for the memorial has emerged as more radical, innovative and unsettling than it seemed when preliminary models and renderings were first shown in March 2010.
Philip Kennicott's Post article includes the link to his own earlier article on the memorial's preliminary models and renderings. In the current article, Kennicott observes:
Gehry and Wilson are trying to break with centuries of tradition in the aesthetics of memorialization. The new memorial is conceived as a theatrical space in a parklike setting. The tapestry, which some have compared to a theater scrim, stands in stark contrast to the classical tradition of marble arches, pillars and other Greek and Roman derivatives. It is meant to be diaphanous and poetic, rather than solid and substantial.
The designers are also mulling plans for a statue representing the former president, but not in his role as chief executive or supreme commander of the Allied Forces, which liberated Europe from Nazi domination in World War II.
Is this some kind of a joke? Kennicott reports on the opposition of the Eisenhower family to the memorial designed by Gehry, though it states that David Eisenhower - a member of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission - supports it, according to the commission's executive architect. Kennicott adds that he could not reach David Eisenhower for comment.
Susan Eisenhower, Ike's granddaughter, released the following public statement on her family's behalf. She emphasized that all members of the family agreed with it, which implicitly includes her brother David, who is the family's representative on the Eisenhower Memorial Commission:
"The Eisenhower family is deeply honored that an Eisenhower Memorial is being planned ... Family members, however, are concerned about the concept for the memorial, as well as the scope and scale of it [emphasis added]. We feel that now is the time to get these elements right - before any final design approvals are given and before any ground is broken."
Shubow comments on the mismatch between Ike and Gehry:
The pairing of Ike with Gehry is a contrast of gray flannel with lamé, of sobriety with intoxication, of the Midwest with Southern California. Modest in demeanor and style, Eisenhower even hated the outlandish chrome detailing on post-war American cars.
It's as if Norman Rockwell had been asked to paint a portrait of Lady Gaga, the plastic pop icon for whom Gehry designed a shapeless hat two years ago. (A tabloid could have headlined it "Gehry Goes Dada for Gaga.")
I hope that David Eisenhower will speak up directly. In the meantime please read Shubow's article, support the National Civic Art Society, and add this monstrosity to your worry list.
I think Power Line deserves to take a bow once in a while. After I heard a tip last week from someone just back from Japan about the Wikileaks disclosure of a cable rebuffing an Obama "Apology Tour" stop at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 2009, I naturally Googled to see what I could find. Although the story had appeared in a number of English language newspapers in Japan, I couldn't find any mention of it anywhere in the American media, or in the blogosphere. So I think it is fair to say Power Line had the story first ("The World Apology Tour Revisited").
I think Michael Barone was the first to pick up on it in his Washington Examiner blog space (mentioning Power Line), then Investors Business Daily, then Fox News "Special Report" last night, and also Jake Tapper's "Political Punch" blog at ABC News. The White House has had to issue a denial that any such apology was planned. Yeah, and they never heard of Solyndra either. Let's go to the tape: as Obama's own ambassador put it, the Japanese government felt that "the idea of President Obama visiting Hiroshima to apologize for the atomic bombing during World War II is a 'non-starter.'" Where, oh where, would the Japanese government have got such an idea into their head?
Another object lesson in the ability of the Internet to break the Mainstream Media monopoly. Hat tip to Wikileaks, of course. But as I said in the original post, anyone who thinks the damage from Wikileaks won't affect the Left, too, isn't paying attention.

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

MSNBC lectures conservatives on... the Bible?
Morning Joe took an interesting twist this week when they decided to lecture American conservatives on the teachings of the Bible. Joe Scarborough used the tired old liberal tactic of citing Matthew 25 and said Christians 'miss the point' of Jesus' teachings. Completely unoriginal point - and also completely wrong.
