Quote:

"This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty-never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

Bank of England Governor Says World May Be Facing Worst Financial Crisis in History

The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on October 7, 2011 at 7:45am

Sir Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, claims that the world economy is facing its worst challenges since the 1930s - if not ever. While the situation was extremely difficult back in 2008 when the crisis truly came to fruition, King claims that today's global economy is facing an immensely complex scenario. He said:

Fact Check: AP Finds Errors in Obama's Jobs Speech

The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on October 7, 2011 at 8:19am

WASHINGTON (AP) - Are President Barack Obama's ideas for job creation really bipartisan as he claims? Not when the means for paying for them are put in the equation.

(Related: Watch excerpts from Obama's speech)

The president dodged various facts and and left some evidence in the dust in his latest challenge to Republicans to get behind his jobs program or offer a real alternative.

A look at some of the claims in his fast-paced news conference and how they compare with the facts:

David Horowitz  Luncheon & Book Signing

The Philadelphia Freedom Center is pleased to welcome our mentor and leader, David Horowitz to Philadelphia to speak about his new book, A Point in Time:The Search for Redemption in this Life & the Next.

David shocked the political left when he abandoned 1960s radicalism to become a conservative.  Founder and current  president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, David is also founder and editor of FrontPage Magazine.  He also founded Students for Academic Freedom, Newsrealblog.com, Discoverthenetworks.com, and is the author of over 20  books.

A Point in Time:

The Search for Redemption in this Life & the Next

Part memoir and part philosophical reflection, A Point in Time focuses on man's inevitable search for meaning - and how for those without religious belief, that search often leads to a faith in historical progress, one that is bound to disappoint. Horowitz agrees with Arcus Aurelius, whose stoic philosophy provides a focal point for the book, "He who has seen present things has seen all, both everything that has taken place from all eternity and everything that will be for time without end..."

Horowitz remembers his father; a political radical who put his faith in just such a redemptive future. He examines this hope through the other great figure who organizes these reflections, the Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky, whose writings foreshadowed the great tragedies of the social revolutions to come. Horowitz draws on eternal themes: the need we have to make sense out of the lives we have been given, our desire to repair the injustices we encounter, and the consequences of our mortality.

Interweaving episodes of his own life with the writings of the philosopher and the novelist, Horowitz explores how we provide meaning to an apparently senseless existence and the dire consequences that follow from seeking to redeem it by attempting to make a perfect world out of the imperfect one in which we find ourselves.

Training for members of Phoenixville and King of Prussia branches

If you're not already aware of it, the "Social Media" have become a routine way of communicating and exchanging ideas. Social media is now widely used - probably every elected representative in the state capitals and in Washington have their own Facebook and use Twitter.

Political action groups make extensive use of them, As do private individuals, companies and non-profit groups.

It's time for our own Tea Party to learn these tools and make use of them. For that reason, we've made arrangements for Daria DiGiovanni to conduct a hands on, how to session.

Daria has worked with a number of Tea Parties, teaching them social media as well as creating their web sites.

Training will be conducted in the King of Prussia area, and will consist of a single, three-hour session. Day and time to be announced. There will be a small cost - we're working out the details, but it's likely to be $10 or less, and will be held within the next 30 days. We don't know if this training will be offered again in the foreseeable future.

Please respond to this email immediately so we can plan and schedule the training.

Welcome to Washington's Headquarters at the Moland House

1641 Old York Road, Hartsville, PA  18974

In the early evening of 10 August 1777, eleven thousand Continental and militia soldiers are marching up York Road towards the Cross Roads with Bristol Road [Hartsville, PA] on their way to Coryell's Ferry [New Hope, PA] to camp four miles across the Delaware RiverGeneral George Washington receives a dispatch from John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress, placing the 260-vessel British fleet, hauling 17,000 troops under General William Howe, fifty miles south of the Delaware Capes [May & Henelopen] on 7 August. Unsure and wary of Howe's intentions, Washington immediately halts his force to encamp around the bridge over the Little Neshaminy Creek in Warwick Township, Bucks County.  Knowing the area and having ridden through only ten days earlier, he selects the substantial stone dwelling of Widow Moland as his Head Quarters on the farm north of the bridge.

Davis will address.  He is the author of the popular Don't Know Much About... book series as well as America's Hidden History: Untold Tales of the First Pilgrims, Fighting Women, and Forgotten Founders Who Shaped a Nation and  A Nation Rising: Untold Tales of Flawed Founders, Fallen Heroes, and Forgotten Fighters from America's Hidden History.

Property Tax Reform and the Cost of Education - An Outstanding Round Table Discussion

When:  Friday, October 14, 2011 at 6:00 PM

Where: Phoenixville Country Club, Phoenixville, PA 19460  (610) 933-3727

Food and beverage service is available.  New menu!

THE BIG PICTURE ON PROPERTY TAX REFORM AND THE COST OF EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN!!

Our round table of three outstanding speakers: Nathan Benfield, David Baldinger and Dr. Richard Brake

THE COST OF EDUCATION GOES UP, UP, UP AND OUR PROPERTY TAXES KEEP GOING UP, UP, UP!  WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE THIS?

No discussion on property tax reform is complete without talking about what it is costing to educate our children and whether or not they are getting the education they deserve, according to Nathan Benfield, Director of Policy Analysis for the Commonwealth Foundation.  Nate has researched and written on public policy issues including taxation, government spending, education reform and transportation funding. He has frequently provided testimony to Pennsylvania House and Senate committees on various issues including education.

David Baldinger a full-time volunteer for the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations (PCTA) will be with us to explain the School Property Tax Elimination Plan that permanently eliminates all school district property taxes as well as eliminating local school district earned income taxes (EIT). PCTA says Statewide, current school district budgets increase, on average, at twice the rate of inflation! And, "no tax should have the power to leave you homeless". David started this work in 2004 and since has become one of PA's leading experts on the subject.

Dr. Richard Brake is the Director of Educational Programs at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), a non-profit educational foundation with a mission to "Educate for Liberty"- by inspiring college students to discover and embrace principles that make America prosperous, moral, and free. Dr. Brake lives in Berwyn with his family and is currently an elective member of the TE school board. Dr. Brake has documented the failure of America's top universities to teach students the founding history, texts, and institutions of our constitutional republic. His commentary on this disturbing trend has appeared in media outlets nationwide.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Judical Watch is Demanding Answers  Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:

"The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2

But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.

True the Vote

We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action?   True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step.  For more information email  info@truethevote.org or go  HERE  to sign up now!

Agenda 21 In One Easy Lesson

Awareness of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development is racing across the nation as citizens in community after community are learning what their city planners are actually up to. As awareness grows, I am receiving more and more calls for tools to help activists fight back. Many complain that elected officials just won't read detailed reports or watch long videos. "Can you give us something that is quick, and easy to read that we can hand out," I'm asked.

So here it is. A one page, quick description of Agenda 21 that fits on one page. I've also included for the back side of your hand out a list of quotes for the perpetrators of Agenda 21 that should back up my brief descriptions.

A word of caution, use this as a starter kit, but do not allow it to be your only knowledge of this very complex subject. To kill it you have to know the facts. Research, know your details; discover the NGO players in your community; identify who is victimized by the policies and recruit them to your fight; and then kill Agenda 21. That's how it must be done. The information below is only your first step. Happy hunting.

What is Sustainable Development?

Earlier this year, I urged you to go to theaters to see Atlas Shrugged: Part One and share its message of limited government, free markets and individual liberty with family, friends and neighbors. Based on Ayn Rand's classic novel written in 1957, Atlas Shrugged: Part One was immediately celebrated as a "made for Tea Party film."

The film is now finally set for its much-anticipated release on DVD. As a FreedomWorks member, you can pre-order a limited edition version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One featuring special bonus features from FreedomWorks. Pre-order It Now!

Atlas Shrugged: Part One is set in a not-so-distant future in which government has taken control of businesses, bureaucrats have impose burdensome regulations on the economy and entrepreneurs are rapidly disappearing from society. Their disappearances are all linked to a man named John Galt, a mysterious figure who leaves this desperate world wondering: "Who is John Galt?"

I know many of our members were disappointed that Atlas Shrugged: Part One, a film that had been attempted and scrapped numerous times since the novel debuted over 50 years ago, didn't play in a theater in their area. The release of this limited edition FreedomWorks version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One DVD is a great opportunity to own a part of film history. Get It Now.

As I've said before, Atlas Shrugged: Part One has the opportunity to introduce millions more around the world to the philosophy of freedom. This DVD is a great gift for family and friends who care about the principles of limited government, free markets and individual liberty. Give A Gift.

While activists have many reasons for getting involved in this grassroots movement-TARP, the stimulus, ObamaCare-I know that for me I wasn't initially motivated by a piece of legislation or a midterm election. My conversion happened many years ago when I picked up a dog-eared copy of the 1,000 page tome we know as Ayn Rand's masterpiece, Atlas Shrugged.

That's the power of this book and this film. Pre-order It Now.

Eliminate Property Taxes

The property tax issue has been long and contentious, but it is finally about to "have its day in court" so to speak and NOW is the time to act! CALL YOUR LEGISLATOR AND ASK HIM TO Co-SPONSOR THIS LEGISLATION.

As I have been mentioning over the  last few months, Rep. Cox has been drafting language for a new bill which will replace the school property tax with a broadened sales tax. Rep. Cox has been working with citizens and fellow legislators in order to draft legislation demanded by the people, and this particular legislation is supported in the legislation as well like we have never seen before.

From David Baldinger, the spokesman for the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations:

"As soon as possible, please contact your Representatives to request that they co-sponsor this legislation.  Emails are acceptable but a phone call will get the message to them faster.  For the first contact, please be courteous and respectful in your request by asking them to co-sponsor or join in the discussion to solve the property tax problem for all Pennsylvanians. Remember, there are no legitimate reasons for not co-sponsoring, only excuses.  If your Representative has already agreed to co-sponsor, thank them for their help."

Contact information for your Representative is here: http://goo.gl/euuN8. If you support the elimination of school property taxes, Please call or email your legislator now--and pass it on.

For Prosperity,

Vonne

RedState Morning Briefing

For October 7, 2011

1. Reid Goes Nuclear To Block The President's Stimulus Plan

Harry Reid just went there.

In a stunning parliamentary move, Reid invoked the infamous "nuclear option" this evening on the Senate floor to bar Republicans from getting votes on amendments without Reid's permission. In short, he used a simple majority to do an end run around the rules of the Senate that make it the greatest deliberative body in the world.

Here is what is going on. Harry Reid brought a bill to the floor to impose protectionist sanctions on China. He didn't want anyone to offer any amendments all week that were uncomfortable for his Democrat Senators, even though it is a key feature of the Senate to be able to force votes on any matter that a Senator deems important. In order to prevent Republicans from forcing votes on the President's new stimulus plan, Reid used his ability as the Majority Leader to "fill the tree" by offering meaningless amendments that served only to block Republican amendments. Republicans figured out a way to get around him by offering procedural motions (instead of formal amendments) that would require 67 votes to pass but would secure the roll-call vote to get Democrats on the record.

The GOP manuever fit perfectly within the rules of the Senate. The Senate parliamentarian said so. Reid responded by having the Senate overturn the parliamentarian's ruling. He won his appeal by a vote of 51 to 48 and thereby changed the rules of the Senate by simple majority. Senate rules are supposed to require 67 votes to be changed. This was the nuclear option long contemplated by Republicans in response to Democrats' blockade of conservative judges, but was never used, in part because of what it would mean to the Senate's future as a deliberative body. It was feared that it would ruin the filibuster.

Harry Reid pulled the trigger on a bill that had every chance of passing the Senate. Senate Republicans did not have the votes to stop it, so all that was in jeopardy was Harry Reid's patience and his party's comfort over having to take a tough vote.

The filibuster is still intact, but by invoking the nuclear option with regard to these Republican motions, Reid has established a precedent that will work to it's long-term ruin. That is not a good thing for conservatives. I understand that many want the filibuster to go away when conservatives are in control and trying to pass important policy. But the filibuster is about securing a minority's right to be heard. A government that allows the majority to trample the rights of a minority loses its legitimacy to govern. The majority isn't always right, and the Senate has always been one of our nation's most enduring checks against its tyranny.

The Senate as a deliberative body took a major hit tonight. And all because Harry Reid lost his cool and didn't want to vote on his own President's stimulus plan.

2. Herman Cain: Maybe Obama Is Better Than Rick Perry

He didn't say that exactly but that is what it boils down to.

Last week I posted a story titled Herman Cain: I Endorse Mitt Romney. I engendered some lively discussion mostly from Herman Cain fans who insisted that they could parse hidden meaning into his "Today, I could not support Rick Perry as the nominee for a host of reasons" statement.

To me, only reading English and being unable for a lot of reasons to establish a Vulcan mind meld with Mr. Cain, the statement was clear. He couldn't support Governor Perry and Mitt Romney was in second place this was an endorsement of Romney.

Lest there be any doubt about what Mr. Cain meant, it was cleared up on Hugh Hewitt's radio show today.

3. A Nobel Prize For Settled Science

Today Dan Shechtman, Philip Tobias Professor of Materials Science at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, an Associate of the US Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory, and Professor of Materials Science at Iowa State University, received a telephone call that he didn't expect. It was from the Nobel Committee which had taken valuable time out from awarding its Peace Prize to assorted crackpots, incompetents, frauds, despots and genocidal killers to bestow upon Dr. Shechtman the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Professor Schechtman's Nobel Prize is a cautionary tale for the anthropogenic global warming scaremongers.

When Dr. Schectman made his discovery he was hounded out of his research position as a crackpot and derided by no lesser figure than Dr. Linus Pauling with the quip, "Danny Shechtman is talking nonsense. There is no such thing as quasicrystals, only quasi-scientists."

To make a long story short, for the longest time the science of crystallography was settled.

R. James Woolsey & Seth Leibsohn | October 6, 2011 4:00 A.M.

Shortly after 9/11, many thought it was imperative to teach about and promote the heroes of that deadly day. One such hero whose life and example we can never learn enough about was Rick Rescorla. Originally from England, he came to America and distinguished himself as an Army infantry officer in Vietnam. Later he became head of security at Morgan Stanley, and, after the World Trade Center bombing in 1993, he knew the terrorists would go after the Twin Towers again. He warned the authorities continually; moreover, he led regular evacuation drills between 1993 and 2001. On 9/11, he successfully led almost every Morgan Stanley employee out to safety. He himself did not make it. His last known words were, "As soon as I make sure everyone else is out." He said those words to another Morgan Stanley employee who had yelled to him that he had to get out too. Rick Rescorla's remains were never found.

Alone in the Muslim World
Leon Panetta visited Israel to warn about its "growing isolation" and he is half right. Right about the isolation and wrong about the growing part.

Israel is isolated in the Middle-East, but its isolation is a constant reality, not a growing phenomenon. It is not isolated because of its policies, as its critics claim, but because its identity is at odds with a region dominated by Arab-Muslims whose national identities is closely tied to ethnicity and religion.

Israel is isolated in the same way that the United States and Canada are isolated among a hemisphere of Latino states or they would be if they paid attention to what was going on south of the border. But the North American anglos have enough land and population to ignore the commonplace hostility of their southern neighbors. Enough breathing room that most in the north are unaware that there is a rivalry in the south.

With its tiny territory, a sizable minority population that is from the regional majority (something that is also becoming an issue in the United States) and nothing in the way of a buffer zone, the isolation is much more extreme for the only non-Muslim and non-Arab state in the Middle-East. But there is one additional factor. Israel's difference is not merely ethnic or racial, it's also religious. And the religion it's surrounded by is a creed which views mass murder as an acceptable solution to religious differences.

If Sunnis and Shiites can't get along with one another, how exactly is Israel expected to overcome a much more fundamental isolation?

Israel will always remain isolated in a region defined by religion and race. There is no way around that and no amount of peace processes and policies will change that. There is a measurable distance between Iran and the rest of the region because it is Persian and Shiite. In the same way there is a distance between Turkey and the rest of the region because it is non-Arab. No matter how much Iran and Turkey get out front to lead the Jihad, they will always be on the outs.

Secret US Panel Can Put Americans on 'Kill List'

Wednesday, 05 Oct 2011

American militants like Anwar al-Awlaki are placed on a kill or capture list by a secretive panel of senior U.S. government officials, which then informs the president of its decisions, according to U.S. officials.

There is no public record of the operations or decisions of the panel, which is a subset of the White House's National Security Council, several current and former officials said. Neither is there any law establishing its existence or setting out the rules by which it is supposed to operate.

The panel was behind the decision to add Awlaki, a U.S.-born militant preacher with alleged al Qaeda connections, to the target list. He was killed by a CIA drone strike in Yemen late last month.

The role of the president in ordering or ratifying a decision to target a U.S. citizen is fuzzy. White House spokesman Tommy Vietor declined to discuss anything about the process.

Current and former U.S. officials said that to the best of their knowledge, Awlaki, who the

Ohio Muslim Inmates Sue Over Meal Preparation. The REAL objective? Put Imams on the gov't payroll, because there's no physical difference between halal food & kosher food, which is already served in prisons. Is this how you want your tax dollars spent?

Fellow patriots,

The goal of the three reports you'll receive each day is to keep you informed of what's happening in the Islamic world without overburdening you.  The subject line is a summary so you can quickly understand the report even if you don't have time to read the whole thing.  If you ever feel overwhelmed by email and wish to discontinue, please reply to me and say so, and I'll take you off the list.  On the other hand, if you see something that you think is particularly important, please forward it to your friends, family and even the prayer chain of your church, synagogue, or temple so that more people are aware.  Many people don't read the news, but they'll read an email from you!  Thanks again for joining, Dave Bailey)

Years ago, I read a book written by an Imam that said Muslims could eat kosher food.  That is, kosher food complied with all halal requirements ("halal" is the Islamic version of "kosher," in that halal food has been certified as fit for Muslims to eat).  The Imam made this point because Muslims in the United States often found themselves in places where halal food was not available, while kosher food was widely available.

What a difference a few years make!  Apparently Muslims now feel that they are in a position to DEMAND halal food.

This demand struck me as very strange, though, because kosher food is halal.  So why would the Muslim inmates demand halal food instead of kosher?

The only difference between kosher food and halal food is that halal food must be prayed over by an Imam -- who works as an employee or contractor for the food processing plant.  You can verify this fact by reading Texas A&M University's report on the matter --> http://meat.tamu.edu/kosher.html

Given the rapidly growing number of Muslims in U.S. prisons, a concession to the Muslim inmates' demands would set a precedent that would almost instantly create a large and steadily growing market for halal food, thereby producing an entire industry out of thin air that employs Imams and probably lots of other Muslims.  Whether or not the Imams work directly for the U.S. government, the food processing plants where they work would essentially become government contractors because the demand that built the plants wouldn't exist without the Muslim prison population.

In other words, these Imams and the other Muslims employed at the food processing plants would be your tax dollars at work.  And if you think that non-Muslims would be allowed to work in food processing plants for halal food, remember again the story of Asia Bibi, who now faces a death penalty for blasphemy in Pakistan as a result of an altercation with Muslims who refused to drink from a pitcher of water she brought to them because she had touched it with her filthy infidel hands --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asia_Bibi .

Sounds like a great justification for bringing in more foreign Muslims to work in American food processing plants, as we're already seeing with Tyson foods --> http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/06/us/06muslim.html .

Ohio Muslim Inmates Sue Over Meal Preparation

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Muslim death row inmate says the Ohio prison system is denying him meals prepared according to Islamic law while at the same time providing kosher meals to Jewish prisoners, according to a federal lawsuit that alleges a civil rights violation.

The state said Monday that it has already removed pork from its menus in response to the lawsuit brought by condemned inmate Abdul Awkal, who argues the prison system's failure to provide halal meals is a restraint on his religious freedoms.

Awkal, joined by a second inmate not on death row, says the vegetarian and non-pork options offered by the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction aren't good enough. The inmates say food must be prepared in specific fashion, such as ensuring that an animal is butchered by slitting its throat and draining its blood, to conform to Islamic beliefs.

Stop blaming the Israeli government for status quo
By AVI PERRY

Without exception, all of the latest diplomatic tsunamis have been blamed on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's policies.

On the face of it, Israel has been facing an uninterrupted deterioration in its international standing in recent years. Referred to as an aggressor, an occupier of someone else's land, a war criminal, it seems that the more accusatory the term, the more popularity it garners.  Evidence to the contrary fell on deaf ears as the world became obsessed with playing pin-the-blame on Israel.

It's always been Israel's fault regardless of the evidence, regardless of the truth-Guilty, guilty, guilty.

Without exception, all of the latest diplomatic tsunamis-including the threats from Turkey, the attack on the Israeli embassy in Cairo, the Jordanians' hostility, international community's support for the Palestinian statehood bid in the UN-have been blamed on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's policies.

One single voice: winning the redistricting fight in Florida

Oct 05, 2011 02:18 pm | Coach Collins

By Henry Kelley, staff writer

Can one person in a State of 18 million citizens make a difference?  The answer as it relates to redistricting has yet to be seen, but a clear answer is: to a lot of groups - complaining about a process instead of working within the process is a sure fire failure.

Last year, I started looking into the decennial redistricting that goes on after every census, but particularly in my home state of Florida. The State Legislature is required to produce 3 maps - A complete US Congressional map, a Florida Senate map, and a Florida House map.

Due to the growth in Florida's population, it is now necessary to add 2 US Congressional Districts to the State's Congressional delegation.  The Legislative seats will remain unchanged at 40 Senators and 120 Representatives.

First a little legal background for Florida.

Owing to our State Constitution, the Florida Legislature cannot vote on ... Continue Reading:One single voice: winning the redistricting fight in Florida

Islam's History of Forced Conversions

September 29, 2011 by Raymond Ibrahim

Finding and connecting similar patterns of behavior throughout Islamic history is one of the most objective ways of determining whether something is or is not part of Muslim civilization.

Consider the issue of forced conversion in Islam, a phenomenon that has a long history with ample precedents.  Indeed, from its inception, most of those who embraced Islam did so under duress, beginning with the Ridda wars and during the age of conquests, and to escape dhimmi status.  This is a simple fact.

Yet, when one examines today's cases of forced conversions with those from centuries past, identical patterns emerge, demonstrating great continuity.  Consider:

Days ago in Pakistan, two Christian men were severely beaten with iron rods and left for dead by a group of Muslims, simply because they refused to convert to Islam.  According to Compass Direct News, they were returning from a church service when they were accosted by six Muslims.  After they discovered they were Christian, the Muslims:

Terrorism and the New American Republic

In 1786, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson met with Arab diplomats from Tunis, who were conducting terror raids and piracy against American ships.

History records them as the Barbary Pirates. In fact, they were blackmailing terrorists, hiding behind a self-serving interpretation of their Islamic faith by embracing select tracts and ignoring others.  Borrowing from the Christian Crusades of centuries past, they used history as a mandate for doing the western world one better.  The quisling European powers had been buying them off for years.

On March 28, 1786 Jefferson and Adams detailed what they saw as the main issue:

World facing worst financial crisis in history, Bank of England Governor says

The world is facing the worst financial crisis since at least the 1930s "if not ever", the Governor of the Bank of England said last night.

Sir Mervyn King was speaking after the decision by the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee to put £75billion of newly created money into the economy in a desperate effort to stave off a new credit crisis and a UK recession.

Economists said the Bank's decision to resume its quantitative easing [QE], or asset purchase programme, showed it was increasingly fearful for the economy, and predicted more such moves ahead.

Sir Mervyn said the Bank had been driven by growing signs of a global economic disaster.

"This is the most serious financial crisis we've seen, at least since the 1930s, if not ever. We're having to deal with very unusual circumstances, but to act calmly to this and to do the right thing."

Announcing its decision, the Bank said that the eurozone debt crisis was creating "severe strains in bank funding markets and financial markets".

Bloomberg Whiffs, Part 3

In Bloomberg Whiffs, Parts one and two, I documented various errors in two of the main themes of Bloomberg Markets' politically-motivated hit piece on Koch Industries. The subjects of those posts were Bloomberg's false claims that Koch Industries illegally did business in Iran, and terminated an employee who was responsible for compliance because she discovered that employees of a French subsidiary had made improper payments in support of sales.

This post, Part 3, relates to the third major theme of Bloomberg's article: environmental compliance. It is revealing that Bloomberg reaches back to 1996 for its melodrama of environmental good and evil. Bloomberg's story has a heroine-Sally Barnes-Soliz, a former Koch employee whom Bloomberg casts as a whistle-blower-and a villain, the managers of Koch's Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery, who, according to Bloomberg, poured benzene into the environment and lied to regulators to cover it up.

Everyone who follows the climate change controversy even casually will know about the "hockey stick" controversy.  Well, Nature magazine this week offers a new graph of interest: the rising trend of retractions of scientific research papers (see blow).  Lo and behold, it looks like a hockey stick!  (Heh.)

The Nature story notes:

[B]ehind at least half of them lies some shocking tale of scientific misconduct - plagiarism, altered images or faked data - and the other half are admissions of embarrassing mistakes. But retraction notices are increasing rapidly. In the early 2000s, only about 30 retraction notices appeared annually. This year, the Web of Science is on track to index more than 400 - even though the total number of papers published has risen by only 44% over the past decade.

There's a lot more here to ponder, such as the essentially hollow and meaningless nature of modern peer review, and the increasingly tribal and ideological drift of much of the academic scientific establishment.  Some other time perhaps I'll get further into these matters.

Newt's New Contract

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published October 5, 2011 on The American Spectator website.

Last week, Newt Gingrich released his
21st Century Contract with America, composed of 10 specific legislative proposals he would enact if elected President. In the 1994 Congressional campaigns, Republicans not only rode Newt's Contract with America proposals to Republican majorities in Congress. They maintained their House majority for 12 years, after Republicans had only held a House majority for 2 of the previous 74 years.

Newt's 21st century contract is similarly a document on which the entire Republican Party can campaign next year, and win a generation of governing majorities.

Booming Recovery, Long Overdue

Gingrich pledges in his new contract to "Return to robust job creation with a bold set of tax cuts and regulatory reforms that will free American entrepreneurs to invest and hire, as well as by reforming the Federal Reserve."

Social Security Disaster

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published October 5, 2011 on Townhall.com.

Politicians who are principled enough to point out the fraud of Social Security, referring to it as a lie and Ponzi scheme, are under siege. Acknowledgment of Social Security's problems is not the same as calling for the abandonment of its recipients. Instead, it's a call to take actions now, while there's time to avert a disaster. Let's look at it.

The term was derived from the scheme created during the 1920s by Charles Ponzi, a poor but enterprising Italian immigrant. Here's how it works. You persuade some people to give you their money to invest. After a while, you pay them a nice return, but the return doesn't come from investments. What you pay them with comes from the money of other people whom you've persuaded to "invest" in your scheme. The scheme works so long as you can persuade greater and greater numbers of people to "invest" so that you can pay off earlier "investors." After a while, Ponzi couldn't find enough new investors, and his scheme collapsed. He was convicted of fraud and sent to prison.

Court Opens Terms with Question of Standing

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published October 4, 2011 on The Washington Examiner website.

Can private parties sue to enforce a federal statute when Congress does not say so? That's what the Supreme Court is deciding in a case heard on the opening day of its current term.

The court's first case this term involves Medicaid. The justices considered if Medicaid recipients can sue when a state cuts Medicaid payments, or instead if that is a matter left to federal and state governments to sort out.

The case is actually three consolidated cases from various Medicaid recipients in California, named Douglas v. Independent Living Center. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held in favor of the plaintiffs in all three. The Supreme Court is deciding whether federal district and appeals courts even have jurisdiction to hear these cases.

A person cannot sue for violations of a federal statute unless he or she has a right to sue (also known as "standing"). The courts are not watchdogs policing governmental compliance with statutes. Congress makes federal law, and so Congress decides who can sue to enforce those laws if they are broken.

Rush Limbaugh: Obama 'Setting Up Riots' With Occupy Wall Street

Thursday, 06 Oct 2011

By Amy Woods

Rush Limbaugh contends that President Barack Obama is "setting up riots" through the Occupy Wall Street protests that are spreading across the country.

"There's no doubt in my mind that the White House is behind this," he said. "Obama is setting up riots. He is fanning the flames."

The "anarchists" and "union thugs" who are rallying against corporate greed are Obama's constituents, Limbaugh said.

"Occupy Wall Street is his base," he said. "Those are his foot soldiers."

Issa: Emails Prove Holder Told About Fast And Furious

Thursday, 06 Oct 2011

By Martin Gould

President Barack Obama threw his full weight behind Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday despite growing evidence that Holder was clearly told about the Fast and Furious Mexican gunrunning scheme nine months before he will admit.

Obama's backing came just hours after the two Republicans leading the probe into the scandal, Californian Rep. Darrell Issa, and Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, released a set of five emails that reveal that Michael Walther, the director of the National Drug Intelligence Center, had told Holder of the scheme last summer.

In the memos, the first of which was sent on July 5, Walther clearly pointed out that his agents in Arizona were supporting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Operation Fast and Furious.

'Economic terrorist' wants 'new financial crisis' now

Stephen Lerner, a controversial anti-capitalist SEIU organizer, is one of the forces behind the protests on Wall Street and nationwide, according to quotes obtained by a socialist activist who doubles as a Washington Post columnist.

WND was first to report Lerner was the brain behind some of the economic protest templates being used by the Occupy Wall Street campaign.

Lerner recently laid out a mass economic protest plan intended to bring down the stock market, and boasted his plan could be used to cause a new financial crisis. His ideology prompted some conservative critics to go so far as to label him an economic terrorist.

Writing in the Washington Post on Tuesday, columnist Harold Meyerson, the vice-chair of Democratic Socialists of America, quoted Lerner describing how a coalition is fomenting the current economic protests.

Lerner described himself as part of that coalition, referring to the organizations behind the demonstrations as "we."

Lerner told Meyerson: "It's a confluence of planned and unplanned demonstrations ... . We build on each other. We go ping-ponging back and forth."

The Occupy Wall Street unrest first started Sept. 17 with a protest called the "Day of Rage."

Occupy Wall Street, powered by Big Labor

Now the unions are jumping in

In late September, major labor unions mostly watched from the sidelines as the Occupy Wall Street protests grew from a ragtag band of diehards camping in a park into a fledgling movement grabbing national headlines and sparking similar protests around the country. Now, Big Labor is going to work: endorsing the protests, offering manpower and resources, and helping stage a major march in New York City's financial district on Wednesday. They are adding organizing muscle, fresh energy, and greater numbers to the boisterous demonstrations that began in downtown Manhattan more than two weeks ago.

Among those now jumping in is the New York State United Teachers, the Empire State's largest union, representing 600,000 educators. In an interview Tuesday, spokesman Carl Korn for the first time publicly offered NYSUT's support for Occupy Wall Street and its message about shrinking income inequality, investing in public education, and making the rich pay their fair share in taxes. "Teachers and public employees represent the other 99 percent; they are not in the 1 percent," Korn said, echoing the theme of an Occupy Wall Street Tumblr gone viral. "We're supportive of that overarching message."

Steve Jobs' final gift was to wipe the news pages and cable TV stations clear of the nihilistic attacks on capitalism and corporations, now fomenting on Wall Street and in copycat demonstrations across other major cities.  The Occupy Wall Street movement, has of course relied on the technology of the corporation Jobs built to spread its message, and  is now getting help from the labor unions, moveon.org, Van Jones,  Christopher Hedges, and Cornell West, all soldiers in the movement to destroy corporations and  "bring power to the people".

My article today on Jobs and the anti-capitalist crusaders follows.  (for the record, the Newton was a  product of the John Scully era at Apple, that Jobs killed off  two years after he returned to Apple.  Jobs' version, introduced years later, was the iPad).

Steve Jobs wouldn't Occupy Wall Street

by Richard Baehr

Steve Jobs died last night at age 56. Jobs was a visionary entrepreneur, new product developer and marketer. Like many entrepreneurs, Jobs knew both success and failure in his business career. Jobs created the Macintosh, the iMac, the iBook, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad, and convinced many consumers they needed all of them.

During a period after he was fired from Apple, between 1985 and 1997, Jobs created Pixar, which released the most successful animated movies in history. Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, and during his second tour of duty, it became the most valuable company in the world.

But Jobs also dropped out of college, was fired by Apple, and some of his new products were commercial failures - Lisa and the Newton, among them. As Jobs explained to Stanford graduates in 2005, getting fired from Apple proved a blessing, as it gave him the chance to clear his head, and to grow and create new things, Jobs's success was a mix of genius, creativity, dogged determination, obsessive attention to detail, and marketing showmanship.

Alexander's Essay - October 6, 2011

The Supreme Court and the Future of Liberty

The most critical case since FDR

"There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations." --James Madison

Marbury v. Madison: Chief Justice John Marshall established Court as supreme expositor of the Constitution

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has convened for its 2011/12 term, and one case before the court will determine whether the central government can nationalize another one-sixth of the American economy. Call it The American people v. ObamaCare.

For the record, that would be one-sixth of what remains of free enterprise after all the nationalization already undertaken by Barack Hussein Obama, ostensibly to "save the economy." If Obama and his socialist cadres continue to undermine free enterprise at the current pace, his goal of "fundamentally transforming the United States of America" into a socialist democracy will be assured, regardless of the victors in the next election cycle.

Indeed, the rapidly growing ranks of Americans already dependent upon government subsidies (approximately 32-35 percent), many of whom are content to vote for the redistribution of others' incomes rather than work for their own, greatly influences national elections. That dependent electorate, combined with the government's control over tens of millions of other American incomes by way of nationalization and regulation, increases the number of its dependents to about 40 percent, which poses a perilous threat to Liberty. Think about it this way: Forty percent of Americans are, to varying degrees, fiscally addicted to the public treasury. Is it any wonder that American Liberty is under siege, and that its future is in question?

Responding to a complaint by 26 states, the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the "individual mandate" in so-called "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" (ObamaCare). The mandate itself is an unprecedented statist requirement that every American buy an insurance product or service and have proof of coverage. As such, it is a gateway measure for governmental authority to define not only the type of coverage but also the degree.

If SCOTUS fails to uphold the Circuit Court's ruling, ObamaCare will be well on its way to increasing the number of Americans whose incomes are directly regulated by the central government to well over 50 percent. The implications for "free and fair" elections are ominous, given that a majority of Americans would then have an economic interest in electing only those who promise to continue doling out the "free" goodies.

Is the future of Liberty in peril? Tell me what you think

As you recall, when asked about the constitutionality of ObamaCare legislation prior to its shamefully rigged House and Senate passage, Democrat leadership simply scoffed and rebutted, "Nobody questions that." Despite the unmitigated arrogance of those on the Left, who treat our Constitution as a doormat, the Supreme Court will have to answer that question.

That answer will depend on whether the number of justices who abide by their oaths "to support and defend" the United States Constitution and Rule of Law as enshrined within it outnumber those justices who have utterly abandoned their oaths in favor of the rule of men under the so-called "living constitution." Put simply, the Supreme Court will be charged with upholding the supreme contract between "We, the People" and our government.

The Obama administration is trying to fast-track this critical decision. How is SCOTUS likely to rule? Here is the current High Court breakdown.

On the side of Rule of Law, those more inclined to adjudicate based upon what our Constitution actually prescribes and proscribes, are four justices, including Chief Justice John Roberts (age 56), appointed by George W. Bush in 2005; Justice Antonin Scalia (age 75), appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1986; Justice Clarence Thomas (age 63), appointed by George H.W. Bush in 1991; and Justice Samuel Alito (age 61), appointed by George W. Bush in 2006.

On the Left are Ruth Bader Ginsburg (age 78), appointed by Bill Clinton in 1993; Stephen Breyer (age 73), appointed by Clinton in 1994; Sonia Sotomayor (age 57), appointed by Barack Obama in 2009; and, Elena Kagan (age 51), appointed by Obama in 2010.

On the fence would be the ninth justice, Anthony McLeod Kennedy (age 75), a heretofore unreliable justice appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1988, in the wake of the Democrats' vicious and unprecedented assault on Reagan's original appointee, Robert Bork, one of our nation's pre-eminent jurists.

My prediction in the ObamaCare case is a 5-4 split, with Kennedy voting with the majority -- which majority, I cannot predict. As Leftists in both the legislative and executive branches have entirely abandoned their obligation to uphold our Constitution, fending off a substantial threat to Liberty now rests in the hands of one loyalty-confused Supreme Court justice.

If the Court upholds the 11th Circuit's decision, it will be the most significant strike against national legislation since rulings against Franklin Roosevelt's socialist regime in the 1930s.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi correctly concludes that affirming the 11th Circuit's decision would be a major step to "define the boundaries of Congress' power" and "defend Americans' rights and freedoms."

However, if the Supremes do not uphold the 11th Circuit's decision, batten down the hatches. Until which time ObamaCare can be fully repealed by congressional majorities which do abide by their oaths, House Republicans can and must use the authentic powers granted by our Constitution to de-fund ObamaCare and block enactment of any further provisions. Of course, that will require leadership...

In closing, may I remind you that the next president will have the opportunity to nominate one or more Supreme Court Justices?

Which presidential candidate will nominate the most conservative judges?

Religious Freedom under Attack in Supreme Court Today

Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC involves a lawsuit between a church and one of its teachers who was required to teach religion, lead prayer, and fulfill other important religious duties at the school operated by the church. The church sought to resolve a dispute with the teacher using an internal resolution procedure informed by the church's religious beliefs. The teacher refused to abide by the church's teachings on dispute resolution and, instead, filed a lawsuit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Both the EEOC and the teacher then sued the church.

According to the Becket Fund, which represents the church, the issue in this case is "the extent to which the government can control a church's selection of religious leaders." The teacher, who originally wanted the government to force the church to reinstate her as a teacher, seeks an award of monetary damages. The church claims that religious freedom means it should be permitted to select the teachers who will instill the faith in the next generation of students and that it should not have to pay monetary damages to someone it has determined should not fulfill these duties.

Call Your Senators on A-PLUS Now

Yesterday, we asked you to call your Representatives to urge support for A-PLUS in the House. Already, another Representative signed on to co-sponsor the bill. Today, we're asking you to bring the same pressure to your Senators.

>> Call your Senators and urge a co-sponsorship of A-PLUS now.

As you know, the A-PLUS Act, which is in the Senate right now, will allow states to opt out of No Child Left Behind. Removing this layer of a top-down bureaucracy will enable schools to focus on educating students, not complying with centralized planning.

When you click the link, our system will tell you whether your Senator is a co-sponsor of A-PLUS. Then you can make the call to thank your Senator or ask the office why they aren't on the bill yet.

>> Call your Senators: Tell them to cosponsor S. 827, the A-PLUS Act.

All Senators that believe that educating our children is best left to the state and local governments should cosponsor S. 827, the A-PLUS Act. By focusing on education - and not bureaucracy - we all win. Make the call now.

Energy official resigns in wake of Solyndra
By Andrew Restuccia

Jonathan Silver, the head of the Energy Department's loan guarantee program, is resigning in the wake of the controversy surrounding a $535 million loan guarantee to a failed California-based solar company. Silver has come under fire in recent weeks from House Republicans, who have raised questions about the department's loan program in light of the recent bankruptcy of Solyndra, the solar panel manufacturer that received the loan guarantee in 2009. The Energy Department said Silver informed Energy Secretary Chu in July that he planned to resign shortly after the loan guarantee program for renewable energy projects ended.  Campaign for Working Families

To: Friends & Supporters

From: Gary L. Bauer

The Field Is Set

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will not be a candidate for president in 2012. Here is an excerpt from an e-mail Palin sent to supporters last night:

"After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order. ...I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office -- from the nation's governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency."

With Palin's statement last night and Chris Christie's decision Tuesday, the Republican presidential primary field is set.

I Want To Hear From You!

Conservative activists from all over the country are heading to Washington, D.C., for the 2011 Values Voter Summit, which kicks off tomorrow. American Values, my public policy group, is one of the Summit's sponsors, and I will be speaking Saturday. The Values Voter Summit features an all-star lineup of speakers, including seven presidential candidates. A highlight of the event will be a straw poll.

I'd like to conduct our own straw poll. Now that the field is set, I would appreciate your feedback. Here is a list of Republican candidates in alphabetical order:

Michele Bachmann
Herman Cain
Newt Gingrich
Jon Huntsman
Gary Johnson
Ron Paul
Rick Perry
Mitt Romney
Rick Santorum

Here's what I would like to know:

  • If the primary were held today, which of the candidates listed above would you vote for?
  • What is your highest priority in selecting a candidate: Electability or Ideology? Are you backing a candidate because you believe he or she has the best chance of beating Obama? Or are you supporting a candidate because you believe that individual is the most conservative? Or are you following the "Buckley Rule" -- supporting the candidate you believe is the most conservative candidate who can also win?
  • Is there a candidate on this list that you would not support under any circumstances? In other words, if that person won the nomination, you would not vote, vote third party or vote for Barack Obama.

My friends, I'm keeping today's report short and sending it early because I really want to hear from you, and I'd like to get as many responses back as possible. Your feedback will be extremely helpful to me in the next few days as I meet with reporters and leading conservative activists at the Values Voter Summit.

To help our staff process your responses, use this link.

Thank you!

Democrats Mad at Republicans for Defending the Family

ba_nadler01

Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat from New York, is mad at the Republicans for increasing the expense cap for defending the Defense of Marriage Act. Nadler is an opponent of the law, and he believes that the Republicans are "highly hypocritical" to raise alarm about the deficit and yet increase the expense for a law that Nadler himself believes to be "unconscionable."

Now, no one knows why the law should be deemed "unconscionable." When it was passed back in the 1990s, the Democrat President at the time did not veto it. The support for the law was bi-partisan, and Democrats voted for it just as overwhelmingly as the Republicans. The law is supported by majorities in quite a few states as is obvious by polls and referendums. There is only a small minority of perverts that is against it, and specifically against its definition of family as between a man and a woman. That's how a family has always been defined, and we have no legal precedent in history for a family to be defined in any other way.

It's Time to Revive the Black Regiment

John_Muhlenberg_Reduced

The clergy helped lead the resistance and independence movement in America in the eighteenth century. They were often described as the "black regiment" because of the black robes they wore while preaching. Before marching off to join Washington's army, Lutheran pastor John Muhlenberg delivered a powerful sermon from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 that concluded with these words:

The Bible tells us there is a time for all things and there is a time to preach and a time to pray but the time for me to preach has passed away, and there is a time to fight, and that time has come now. Now is the time to fight! Call for recruits! Sound the drums!

Then Muhlenberg took off his clerical robe to reveal the uniform of a Virginia colonel. Grabbing his musket from behind the pulpit, he donned his colonel's hat and marched off to war.

Road to Recovery Picking Up Speed - Going Downhill That Is!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

President Obama continues to tell everyone that although times are still rough that the nation is still slowly recovering.  There are a number of factors that are used to indicate the state of the economy.  Among those key factors is jobs.

As reported earlier, America needs the addition of 300,000 to 400,000 new jobs added to the market every month for the next several years.

While it is estimated that there were approximately 60,000 new jobs added in September, there was also a loss of 115,730 jobs. This was a 212% increase in job loss over September of 2010.  Retailers are talking about adding another 70,000 jobs, but most of those are seasonal and will likely end after Christmas.

October Economic Report

The General Fund revenue collections of $2.32 billion fell short the Department of Revenue projections for the month by $151.8 million in September 2011. On a more positive note, this follows a summer of revenue that came in higher than projected.

Marcellus Shale House Majority Policy Committee Hearing

Late last week, I hosted the House Majority Policy Committee for a hearing on Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania. The hearing was held at the Aldie Mansion in Doylestown Township.

This public hearing was held so that my colleagues and constituents could hear from industry and environmental experts about the different aspects of extracting gas from Marcellus Shale. There has been much discussion on the topic, and my goal was to host a conversation that would be balanced, science based, and explore the many different aspects of what this industry means to Pennsylvania.

Testifiers at the hearing discussed a range of topics surrounding the Marcellus Shale industry including job creation, environmental concerns, regulations, and impacts on infrastructure, emergency and human services.

Included on the agenda was: Tom Murphy, co-director, Penn State Marcellus Shale Center for Outreach and Research, Penn State Cooperative Extension; Andrew Heath, executive director, Renew Growing Greener Coalition; David Masur, director, PennEnvironment; Jason Hanna, senior project manager of Doylestown-based Langan Engineering and Environmental Services; Carl J. Carlson, director of government affairs, Range Resources of Appalachia, LLC; Elam Herr, assistant executive director, PA State Association of Township Supervisors; Doug Hill, executive director, County Commissioners Association of PA; and Patrick Gardiner, construction services manager, Keystone Transportation Funding Coalition.

If you were unable to make it to the hearing, but interested in what was discussed, please visit my website at www.RepQuinn.net for copies of all testimony and to view the video of the entire hearing.

I appreciate the many comments I received regarding this hearing, even those critical of what seemed to be short notice of the event. I can do my best to control what press releases are submitted, but not what is printed.

Governor Tom Corbett, Marcellus Shale Impact Fee Announcement

Earlier this week, Governor Tom Corbett announced his plan to enact an impact fee on unconventional drilling in the Marcellus Shale. The governor is proposing an impact fee to be adopted by counties at their discretion for use by local communities experiencing the actual impacts of drilling, based on recommendations made by his Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission. The money could be used for the construction, repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and other public infrastructure, among other things. A portion of the money would also be directed back to state agencies that respond to issues that arise as a result of Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling. To view information about the governor's plan, you can download here from his press release on his website,

While I am pleased that the governor has introduced a proposal, please keep in mind that the actual language of the legislation has not been released. Based on what I have read in the governor's press release, I have major concerns with his impact fee proposal.

Road Work Update
Wells Road
-
Great news! Wells Road in Doylestown Township is now open to vehicular traffic between Lower State Road and Turk Road.     Castle Valley Bridge - Verizon is scheduled to relocate poles so that PennDOT can proceed with work on this project. Once the poles are moved later this month, PennDOT will remove the bridge and begin the rebuild process. I am told that this project is still on schedule for the original completion date of August 2012.     Route 313 (Swamp Road) - The Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority will close Route 313 between Ferry and Saw Mill Road in Plumstead and Doylestown townships between 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, for sewer installation. Traffic will be detoured over Ferry Road/Point Pleasant Pike, Route 413 and Cold Spring Creamery Road. Please allow extra travel time if you plan to use this detour.

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
  • provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

  • Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
  • If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
  • And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Brilliant: NY Senators trying to ban being a jerk

New York Senators are working on putting a ban in place that would essentially prohibit people from being a jerk online. To most people attempting to restrict free speech - even putrid free speech - is an obvious violation of the First Amendment. But not to this rowdy group of Senators, who believe the First Amendment is just too broad. Glenn has the story on radio today. WATCH

Glenn had an exclusive interview with one of the many hundreds of millions of billions of protesters down at the Occupy Wall Street protests and despite Jon Stewart's best efforts to present these leftists as completely normal -- it's quite apparent they are not. Someone spookier than Glenn?

Not many people are described as spookier than Glenn when it comes to what they see coming with the economy. Author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad Robert Kiyosaki is one of the few people in America who are so worried about what's coming it makes Glenn a little uncomfortable - no easy task. What is it he sees coming? What advice does he have for you to weather the storm? Great stuff from Roberty Kiyosaki that you can watch HERE.

You're Fired! Hank Williams Jr. gets the boot

That didn't take long -- just a few days after the analogy heard round the world, ESPN has cut ties with Hank Williams Jr. and handed him the pink slip. The classic Monday Night Football song is also packing its bags and heading home after the so called 'controversial' comments. But was it controversial at all?  Or is this just another case of political correctness gone wild? More on the story HERE.

We are the 99%

Glenn, Stu, and Pat obviously have a lot of people who poorly invested their inheritance, prostituted themselves, spent hundreds of thousands on low-demand Fine Arts degrees, and more. The trio read statements from people who seem to be pretty mad at the bankers and corporations when really they have made the poor choices that led to their predicaments. Maybe someone should have warned the Fine Arts major that they may not find a job to pay for their expensive degree? No? Instead YOU should help pay for it for them...it's only fair, right? WATCH.
