Americans for Prosperity

Dear PATRIOTS,

This Monday, October 3rd, the Pennsylvania House Labor and Industry Committee will vote on four measures to amend the Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage Act: House Bills 1271, 1685, 1329 and 1367.

I urge you to call the Labor and Industry Committee Members and kindly encourage them to pass these bills. Click here for contact information.

We at Americans for Prosperity, Pennsylvania fully support the passage of these freedom-restoring bills. Not only will these bills bring an end to costly and discriminatory union practices, they will help boost our sagging unemployment.

Some aspects of the bills would include making worker pay based not soley on the rate of union pay, and allowing private companies to better compete for government funded projects. What would be the benenfit of some of these proposals? They would result in lower costs - allowing more projects and more workers to be hired!

Read our letter of support to the members of the House Labor and Industry Committee.

Again, please call the Labor and Industry Committee Members and ask them to vote "YES" on these bills.

For Liberty,

Sam Rohrer
Pennsylvania State Director
Americans for Prosperity

We have two events next week where we need your help. As we saw in Wisconsin, the battle against the unholy alliance between government and unions is a contentious one. We have been told by House leadership that Right to Work is not on the agenda this session as they do not want to have a sequel of Wisconsin here in the Commonwealth. Rather they are planning to nibble around the edges with prevailing wage.

Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania is supportive of the Right to Work and Prevailing Wage bills. To that end we are asking for you to join us (and invite your membership) as we attend two events this coming week.

EVENT #1

On Monday, October 3 at 11am the House Labor and Industry Committee will be holding a voting meeting in room 205 (Ryan Office Building). The bills they will be voting on are as follows:

HB 1271 (Marsico), HB 1685 (Bear), HB1329(F. Keller), HB 1367 (Miller): All are acts amending the act

of August 15, 1961, known as the Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage Act.

We are told the unions plan on packing the meeting to intimidate those who will be voting in favor of these bills. We ask you to join us to stand on the side of liberty and to show our representatives that they have our support.

EVENT #2

The Associated Builders and Contractors Pennsylvania Chapter will be holding a Prevailing Wage "Birthday Party" on Wednesday, October 5th in the Capitol Rotunda. All the sponsors of the prevailing wage bills will be in attendance and need our support. This is a time where we can finally be on the offense and help get principled legislation passed. Please bring your signs of encouragement and support to show the media and our legislators that we will support them when they bring forth legislation which propels prosperity in the Commonwealth. Let's show the unions that we cannot be intimidated.

**there will also be a prevailing wage "birthday cake" served during the media event in the rotunda and PW information (birthday cards) will be passed out as well.

For more information regarding prevailing wage click here.

If you are unable to attend please take a moment to call or email the members of the Labor and Industry committee and ask them to vote for the above mentioned bills.

David Horowitz Freedom Center

David Horowitz  Luncheon & Book Signing

The Philadelphia Freedom Center is pleased to welcome our mentor and leader, David Horowitz to Philadelphia to speak about his new book, A Point in Time:The Search for Redemption in this Life & the Next.

David shocked the political left when he abandoned 1960s radicalism to become a conservative.  Founder and current  president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, David is also founder and editor of FrontPage Magazine.  He also founded Students for Academic Freedom, Newsrealblog.com, Discoverthenetworks.com, and is the author of over 20  books.

A Point in Time:

The Search for Redemption in this Life & the Next

Part memoir and part philosophical reflection, A Point in Time focuses on man's inevitable search for meaning - and how for those without religious belief, that search often leads to a faith in historical progress, one that is bound to disappoint. Horowitz agrees with Arcus Aurelius, whose stoic philosophy provides a focal point for the book, "He who has seen present things has seen all, both everything that has taken place from all eternity and everything that will be for time without end..."

Horowitz remembers his father; a political radical who put his faith in just such a redemptive future. He examines this hope through the other great figure who organizes these reflections, the Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky, whose writings foreshadowed the great tragedies of the social revolutions to come. Horowitz draws on eternal themes: the need we have to make sense out of the lives we have been given, our desire to repair the injustices we encounter, and the consequences of our mortality.

Interweaving episodes of his own life with the writings of the philosopher and the novelist, Horowitz explores how we provide meaning to an apparently senseless existence and the dire consequences that follow from seeking to redeem it by attempting to make a perfect world out of the imperfect one in which we find ourselves.

Training for members of Phoenixville and King of Prussia branches

If you're not already aware of it, the "Social Media" have become a routine way of communicating and exchanging ideas. Social media is now widely used - probably every elected representative in the state capitals and in Washington have their own Facebook and use Twitter.

Political action groups make extensive use of them, As do private individuals, companies and non-profit groups.

It's time for our own Tea Party to learn these tools and make use of them. For that reason, we've made arrangements for Daria DiGiovanni to conduct a hands on, how to session.

Daria has worked with a number of Tea Parties, teaching them social media as well as creating their web sites.

Training will be conducted in the King of Prussia area, and will consist of a single, three-hour session. Day and time to be announced. There will be a small cost - we're working out the details, but it's likely to be $10 or less, and will be held within the next 30 days. We don't know if this training will be offered again in the foreseeable future.

Please respond to this email immediately so we can plan and schedule the training.

Davis will address.  He is the author of the popular Don't Know Much About... book series as well as America's Hidden History: Untold Tales of the First Pilgrims, Fighting Women, and Forgotten Founders Who Shaped a Nation and  A Nation Rising: Untold Tales of Flawed Founders, Fallen Heroes, and Forgotten Fighters from America's Hidden History.

Property Tax Reform and the Cost of Education - An Outstanding Round Table Discussion

THE BIG PICTURE ON PROPERTY TAX REFORM AND THE COST OF EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN!!

Our round table of three outstanding speakers: Nathan Benfield, David Baldinger and Dr. Richard Brake

THE COST OF EDUCATION GOES UP, UP, UP AND OUR PROPERTY TAXES KEEP GOING UP, UP, UP!  WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE THIS?

No discussion on property tax reform is complete without talking about what it is costing to educate our children and whether or not they are getting the education they deserve, according to Nathan Benfield, Director of Policy Analysis for the Commonwealth Foundation.  Nate has researched and written on public policy issues including taxation, government spending, education reform and transportation funding. He has frequently provided testimony to Pennsylvania House and Senate committees on various issues including education.

David Baldinger a full-time volunteer for the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations (PCTA) will be with us to explain the School Property Tax Elimination Plan that permanently eliminates all school district property taxes as well as eliminating local school district earned income taxes (EIT). PCTA says Statewide, current school district budgets increase, on average, at twice the rate of inflation! And, "no tax should have the power to leave you homeless". David started this work in 2004 and since has become one of PA's leading experts on the subject.

Dr. Richard Brake is the Director of Educational Programs at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), a non-profit educational foundation with a mission to "Educate for Liberty"- by inspiring college students to discover and embrace principles that make America prosperous, moral, and free. Dr. Brake lives in Berwyn with his family and is currently an elective member of the TE school board. Dr. Brake has documented the failure of America's top universities to teach students the founding history, texts, and institutions of our constitutional republic. His commentary on this disturbing trend has appeared in media outlets nationwide.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO YOUR GROUPS. See attached flyer for details. Jaime

A friend of mine asked that I pass this on too like minded people.... I ask the same of you... Thanks, Glenn

Dear Glenn,

I hope this memo finds you and your daughter doing well.

Please share this flyer with your like-minded friends and neighbors.  I'm scheduled to give a presentation entitled "Citizen's Request for Reconsideration of a Work" - how to remove objectionable material from the curriculum.  Unfortunately, it doesn't cover how to remove objectionable teachers from the school district.

Take care,

Eric

Education Reform Workshop

Judical Watch is Demanding Answers  Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:

"The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2

But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.

True the Vote

We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action?   True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step.  For more information email  info@truethevote.org or go  HERE  to sign up now!

TRUE THE VOTE FAQs

I would like to True the Vote in my area, how do I get started?

Please go to www.truethevote.org and register as a volunteer. If there is already a True the Vote Program Leader in your area, we will put you in touch with them.  If there is not a Program Leader in your area, we will work with you and your organization to get one started.

Will there be chapters of True the Vote?

No.  Our goal is to work with organizations that want to use the True the Vote program as the framework for their own election integrity initiative.

How should I represent True the Vote?

You will not be a representative of True the Vote.  You will represent your own organization's initiative.

How do I get trained on the True the Vote Program?

We will offer five training courses:

 1.  Teambuilding

 2.  Data Collection and Research

 3.  Poll Worker / Poll Watcher Training

 4.  Logistics and Mobilization

 5.  Legislation and Advocacy

Agenda 21 In One Easy Lesson

Awareness of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development is racing across the nation as citizens in community after community are learning what their city planners are actually up to. As awareness grows, I am receiving more and more calls for tools to help activists fight back. Many complain that elected officials just won't read detailed reports or watch long videos. "Can you give us something that is quick, and easy to read that we can hand out," I'm asked.

So here it is. A one page, quick description of Agenda 21 that fits on one page. I've also included for the back side of your hand out a list of quotes for the perpetrators of Agenda 21 that should back up my brief descriptions.

A word of caution, use this as a starter kit, but do not allow it to be your only knowledge of this very complex subject. To kill it you have to know the facts. Research, know your details; discover the NGO players in your community; identify who is victimized by the policies and recruit them to your fight; and then kill Agenda 21. That's how it must be done. The information below is only your first step. Happy hunting.

What is Sustainable Development?

New Meeting Schedule for the Concerned Citizen's Group.   The Concerned Citizen's Group will no longer meet weekly on Wednesdays and instead we will be having our "weekly" meeting at various government meetings around the Delaware Valley area: town councils, school boards, county commissioners, zoning boards, water boards, etc.

We will still have monthly meetings on Saturday's. The next monthly meeting will be on Saturday, October 8th at P J Ryan's, 231 Bridge Street, Phoenixville - 6pm.  Radio Talk Show Host Maggie Roddin will do a presentation on U.N. Agenda 21 and have any updates that may have come from the U.N. or local sustainable development  . . . don't forget hay is now deemed a pollutant by the EPA . . . no hay, no crops, no animals, no food.   We will also be showing a movie on U.N. Agenda 21 at the October 8th meeting.

Pre-Order Atlas Shrugged Now!

Earlier this year, I urged you to go to theaters to see Atlas Shrugged: Part One and share its message of limited government, free markets and individual liberty with family, friends and neighbors. Based on Ayn Rand's classic novel written in 1957, Atlas Shrugged: Part One was immediately celebrated as a "made for Tea Party film."

The film is now finally set for its much-anticipated release on DVD. As a FreedomWorks member, you can pre-order a limited edition version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One featuring special bonus features from FreedomWorks. Pre-order It Now!

Atlas Shrugged: Part One is set in a not-so-distant future in which government has taken control of businesses, bureaucrats have impose burdensome regulations on the economy and entrepreneurs are rapidly disappearing from society. Their disappearances are all linked to a man named John Galt, a mysterious figure who leaves this desperate world wondering: "Who is John Galt?"

I know many of our members were disappointed that Atlas Shrugged: Part One, a film that had been attempted and scrapped numerous times since the novel debuted over 50 years ago, didn't play in a theater in their area. The release of this limited edition FreedomWorks version of Atlas Shrugged: Part One DVD is a great opportunity to own a part of film history. Get It Now.

As I've said before, Atlas Shrugged: Part One has the opportunity to introduce millions more around the world to the philosophy of freedom. This DVD is a great gift for family and friends who care about the principles of limited government, free markets and individual liberty. Give A Gift.

While activists have many reasons for getting involved in this grassroots movement-TARP, the stimulus, ObamaCare-I know that for me I wasn't initially motivated by a piece of legislation or a midterm election. My conversion happened many years ago when I picked up a dog-eared copy of the 1,000 page tome we know as Ayn Rand's masterpiece, Atlas Shrugged.

That's the power of this book and this film. Pre-order It Now.

In Liberty,

Matt Kibbe
President and CEO, FreedomWorks

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For October 3, 2011

1. A Few Things for Your Day

I have varied thoughts on varied matters this morning and have a busy day with some family stuff, so I'm just going to bullet point some issues here and the Morning Briefing can fill out most of the stuff.

I merely quoted Sarah Palin on Friday. She told Jake Tapper the end of September was her drop dead date. I have never seen so much vitriol from the supporters of one candidate for merely noting that the candidate herself said September was her drop dead date. She apparently told others she might take till October. But she herself said September was her "drop dead date." For the past 72 hours, Sarah Palin's most ardent supporters have been beating the hell out of me on twitter for lying. All I did was quote the woman. Some are also attacking Jake Tapper claiming he put those words in her mouth. Actually, the exchange was on tape and it was all Sarah Palin. This may be the first time I've ever been attacked for quoting someone accurately (Editor's note: I had said "quoting a candidate accurately," but then she missed her own "drop dead date" to become a candidate, didn't she?!).

The Washington Post is furious that Rick Perry's dad used a piece of land to hunt on that had a big rock up near a gate that had the N-word on it. I can't really tell what they are furious about. Rick Perry's dad painted over the N-word. At one point they turned the rock over. The seven people who saw the rock knew it wasn't the Perry family's doing. What an ironic juxtaposition - the man who wants to let the brown kids into our schools on subsidy and wants to build a trans-national highway from Mexico to Canada hates the black kids or something. I hear Rick Perry once uttered gesundheit after someone sneezed. Maybe he is a closet Nazi too and all those black people and hispanic people he appointed to powerful positions in Texas were all smoke and mirrors.

Herman Cain jumped into the fray on the Perry attack expressing moral outrage or something. I think he might have been doing his impression of Al Sharpton in the level of outrage he was willing to drum up to be outraged over what Hugh Hewitt called a "drive by slander." Maybe he should have been outraged at the reporter for the hit job instead of at Rick Perry for Perry's daddy painting over a racial slur.

If the Washington Post is going to attack Rick Perry for his daddy painting over a racial slur and the paint fading over time, I hope the Romney campaign is ready to batten down the hatches when the Washington Post levels a broadside over Mormonism's late embrace of black people. You know they will do it. The Washington Post goes into the sewer every chance it gets to whip up racial division to benefit Barack Obama.

Speaking of Barack Obama, he wants Congress to take up the jobs bills. But he's failing to point out that the Senate Democrats don't have the votes. That's right. The Democrats do not have enough Democrat votes.

Lastly, supposedly we'll know today whether or not Chris Christie just might get in the race. If not, like Sarah Palin, the buzz will continue until we get the Iowa Caucuses and he's not there. We'll also hear some buzz about Mike Huckabee reconsidering. I think it is too late for anyone else to get in now. They may still. But only Huckabee and Palin would have a pre-existing base of support to draw from. Still, even for them I think it would be late. And besides, can we all just go on and admit that Chris Christie's actual record is a far cry from the rhetorical record that gives conservatives a tingle up their leg?

2. Optimism

I've been dwelling on this for a couple of weeks. Call it, if you will, the "Carville Rule" named for the consultant who came up with it (at least I'll give James credit). It is simply that the most optimistic candidate wins.

Listening to the debates, listening to the speeches, and listening to the general nature of this election, I have to tell you I don't think there is much optimism out there. And I don't just mean optimism among the voters and nation as a whole. There is little optimism in the candidates.

As Peggy Noonan noted this weekend, there is some serious patriotism building up in the men and women at work across this country. Right now they just want someone to rally to. They don't need Reagan, but they need someone with Reagan's sense of the American ideal.

They haven't found that person.

3. The Unprecedented Killing of Anwar al-Awlaki

I'm not a lawyer and I don't even play one after staying at a Holiday Inn Express or when posting on RedState so what follows doesn't pretend to be a legal analysis but more of a historical perspective on what Mr. al-Awlaki's untimely end may signify.

I'll preface this by saying that I think the killing of al-Awlaki to be right and proper. I'm not Ron Paul, Kevin Williamson, or Glenn Greenwald. That does not mean that I'm without a bit of queasiness.

To the best of my knowledge the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki is the first time in our history that a US citizen, serving under arms against his country, has been specifically placed on a "hit list" and then hunted down and killed.

4. Maybe Stephanie McCrummen Just Likes Using the N Word

This is perhaps the most bizarre attack on Rick Perry to come so far.

Hugh Hewtitt has a very good take down of it. It shows the extent to which the Democrats will go to attack Republicans. Stephanie McCrummen, a Washington Post based reporter formerly stationed in Nairobi has a history of fanning racial flames out of context.

5. Reagan Did Not Wait Until The Last Minute

The 2012 presidential election season has not been a normal one in many ways. History teaches us that every election season brings something new we haven't seen before - but also that progress in electioneering, as in most walks of life, is more gradual than people are wont to predict. The candidate who says "this time, everything is different" or "the old rules don't apply" or promises "new politics" or "fundamental change" is almost always selling a bill of goods to his or her supporters, and often to himself or herself. As conservatives, with a belief in experience as mankind's best and only teacher, we should know better. One need only look back to 2010, when a popular wave brought victory mostly to candidates with the attributes and experience of traditonally successful candidates (Marco Rubio, Pat Toomey) and defeat to candidates who were genuinely unorthodox or similar to past losing campaigns (Sharron Angle, Carly Fiorina, Christine O'Donnell). The terrain shifted and new opportunities were created, but the basic rules of the game remained the same.

6. Bank of America, CARD Act, Dodd-Frank, and soaking the poor.

Congratulations, Congressional Democrats: you've managed to soak the working poor again.

Bank of America will start charging debit-card users $5 a month to pay for purchases. The move comes as the cards increasingly replace cash and as banks look for ways to offset the loss of revenue from a new rule that will limit how much they can collect from merchants.

Via Instapundit. You see, what happened here is that Senator Dick Durbin took a break from throwing minority kids out of private schools to extend his legislative magic to the field of merchant debit card fees. The plan? Force the banks to give up their greedy, greedy profits by limiting merchant-to-bank transaction fees, thus saving the merchants money, which they would then pass along to the customer in the form of lower prices. Which sounded... actually, it sounded stupid in theory, even then. It sounds really stupid now because Durbin and the rest of Team Jackass didn't consider the possibility that their Congressional mishandling of the economy from 2007 to 2001 might have resulted in a poor economy in 2011.

7. Disgraced 'green jobs czar,' 'truther' and admitted communist to lead extremist 'American Autumn'

Van Jones resigned as President Obama's so-called "green jobs czar" in 2009. Or as we put it then, "Truth ousts Obama's 'Truther' czar."

The Jones resignation was an attempt to stop the damage to Obama from the revelations that Jones signed the "9/11 truther" statement - which alleges government complicity in the 9/11 terror attacks, the fact that Jones was an admitted communist and video of Jones calling Republicans a**holes. You can watch a CNN video report concerning those issues at Right Side Politics.

In spite of, or perhaps because of, his extremist left-wing views America's far left just cannot get enough of Van Jones.

8. EPA Shutting Three of its Doors Permanently for $300,000 Savings

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is suddenly on the side of budget restraint and savings and wants you to know that they are looking out for your dollar.

Execution Looms for Iranian Pastor Who Refuses to Renounce His Christian Faith

(CNSNews.com) - An Iranian pastor who refuses to renounce his Christian faith could be hanged as soon as Wednesday, after a trial court ruling this week upheld his death sentence for "apostasy."

Religious freedom advocates are calling urgently for governments to take up the case of Youcef Nadarkhani, a 32-year-old evangelical first sentenced to death late last year. If the sentence is carried out he will be the first Iranian Christian known to have been executed for his faith in 21 years.

Nadarkhani embraced Christianity at the age of 19, and since his Supreme Court appeal last June, proceedings focused on the question of whether he was a practicing Muslim at the time

Iranian Jihadists at the Gate

Video shows regime's intent.

Reza Kahlili

America can no longer ignore the threat posed by the Iranian regime. It has a missile base in Venezuela, it is building nukes, and it is openly calling for a jihad against the USA.

September 30, 2011

Al Awlaki is gone but his Jihadists are multiplying

Imam Anwar al Awlaki held two important positions in the cobweb of international Jihadi terror. First, he was one of the emerging younger leaders of al Qaeda after the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Out of Yemen, from which his family originates, he had built a network of recruits capable of performing missions in the Arabian Peninsula, but also communicating with the Shabab of Somalia and many cells inside the West. His reach in recruitment was as far as Jihadists have been indoctrinated. The Nigerian Abdelmutalib, known as the Christmas day bomber in the US, was also connected to the Yemeni-based cleric. In a sense, al Awlaki was one of the most effective al Qaeda international officers. His loss will undoubtedly be felt -at least for a while - within the ranks of the network.

But his other position is even more important to Americans.

Iranian Jihadists at the Gate

Video shows regime's intent.

America!! It's time to wake up: There's an Iranian missile base in Venezuela; The Iranian Navy is starting a mission in the Atlantic Ocean and into the Gulf of Mexico; Iranian missiles are being armed with nuclear warheads; Iran now has enough enriched uranium for six nuclear bombs; and Iran has hundreds of terrorist cells in the U.S. and in Europe.

For decades I have tirelessly tried to warn the West about the ideology and agenda of the radicals ruling Iran. I have urged the West to help the people of Iran with their aspirations for freedom and democracy. I have tried to help the West understand the determination of these radicals in their quest to bring about death, destruction and disaster to the world.

However, the Western leaders have instead chosen to allow these radicals not only to slaughter the freedom loving people of Iran but to arm themselves to the teeth and to continue developing their nuclear program unabated, which only emboldens them and confirms their belief that Allah is protecting them - that they are on the right path.

Mosque falls short

September 26, 2011

Fear not, New Yorkers. A mosque will not soar over Ground Zero.

Hooray?

The news should have reverberated all over the city -- The Ground Zero Mosque Blinked!

But if you shut your eyes for a millisecond, you likely missed it.

Last month, in an amazing feat of contrition mixed with public-relations savvy, the man who controls 51 Park Place, the spot where developers threatened to build a 15-story, $100 million mega-mosque and Islamic center in the shadow of Ground Zero -- said such a project will not be built.

Originally, Park51 (formerly Cordoba House) was envisioned as a monster complex, complete with sex-segregated swimming pool and religiously segregated prayer spaces. But buried deep inside the mosque-supportive New York Times, on a Saturday, was an amazing mea culpa by Sharif El-Gamal, lead developer of the boneheaded project, which, polls demonstrate, is opposed by 70 percent of New Yorkers.

Sharia Vigilante Street Justice in America

Posted by Nonie Darwish   on Sep 27th, 2011

About a year ago, I posted an Arabic language poem titled "Tears at the Heart of the Holocaust" on my website, ArabsForIsrael.com. The poem expressed its Arab author's love for the Jewish people and his mourning over what happened to them in the Holocaust. The brave poet, Mr. Alaa Alsaegh, is an immigrant to the US from Iraq, who now lives in Missouri. Such poems did not sit well with the Muslim community, which caused Mr. Alsaegh to be alienated from it. He received threats because of his support for the Jewish people, was called an infidel and a traitor to Islam, but he continued with his writing of poems and did not take the threats too seriously.

 Act! for America

September 28, 2011

Reading the Tea Leaves

by Guy Rodgers,

Executive Director

ACT! for America

Consider the following news items.

1)

A recent nationwide poll, jointly conducted by two veteran pollsters, a Democrat and a Republican, found that over 76% of respondents DISAPPROVE of U.S. courts applying sharia law. The poll also found that 68% oppose the Ground Zero Mosque.

2)

Ten Muslim students were found guilty of disrupting the speech of the Israeli ambassador to the United States. The ambassador had been invited to speak at the University of California-Irvine last year, when these Muslim students, in a pre-planned, orchestrated effort, attempted to shout him down. ACT! for America chapter leaders and members in California bombarded the university with phone calls and emails demanding action be taken against the students and the Muslim Student Union, which organized the disruption.

The jury rejected arguments for the students that this obnoxious effort to shut down free speech was free speech protected by our Constitution.

The leader of CAIR-Los Angeles (pictured at right) called the Muslim students "true American heroes" and falsely alleged in a press release that the students were "a target of heavy-handed prosecution." On his blog site he defends sharia law in a video. CAIR's true agenda shines through again.

3)

In an article in the August 29th edition of The Washington Times Weekly Edition, Saeed Khan attacked legislation proposed in Michigan titled "American Laws for American Courts." This is the legislation ACT! for America has successfully gotten passed in Tennessee and Arizona that prohibits courts from using foreign law, and by extension sharia law, in certain areas of law.

Khan, a lecturer at Wayne State University in Detroit, claimed that Muslim-Americans have become an "easy target" by Americans who "fear" minorities. In doing so he made this astonishing statement: "To call someone the 'M-word' [Muslim] has replaced the old 'N-word.'"

This is in the same vein as the Muslim state representative in Michigan who made the outrageous and dishonest claim that support of "American Laws for American Courts" is "racism at its core."

This in spite of the fact that a moderate Muslim coalition has come out in support of "American Laws for American Courts" and the law protects Muslim women from the discriminatory nature of sharia law.

4)

At a recent CAIR conference in Chicago, one of CAIR's leaders told the participants that CAIR is raising money to fight "American Laws for American Courts" wherever it is introduced.

What does all of this mean? What do the "tea leaves" tell us?

I first discussed this in an email three few weeks ago. These recent developments tell us that we are witnessing a measureable shifting of the tide. The American people are gradually awakening, becoming aware of threats associated with radical Islam, notably sharia law. What's more, they are increasingly ignoring the bogus allegations of "racism," "Islamophobia," and "intolerance."

Our opposition sees what is happening. But since they can't rebut the factual information we and others are putting out about sharia and radical Islam, they are left to play the only card they have been playing-name calling. This is why they have ramped up their invective and are ranting and raving even more hysterically than they have in the past.

We are in the middle of a slow but sure seismic change, a seismic shift compared to where our nation was four years ago, when I joined ACT as Executive Director. This is the shift we have been working so hard to bring about. And while it doesn't mean we've "won," it DOES mean we have seized the momentum.

Our efforts going into the 2012 state legislative sessions have never been more important or more timely. The issue is simple.

Will we be able to fully capitalize on this seismic shift in public opinion, or will the savage propaganda attacks leveled at us by CAIR, its allies and enablers, blunt our momentum?

We are nearing the end of our fall Patriot Partner campaign, and we still have a ways to go to reach our goal of 400 new Patriot Partners. If you are not already a Patriot Partner, and you are able to support us with a $19 gift each month, please click here and select the $19 Patriot Partner level.

When you do, we'll ship you our new resource, "Unmasking the Enemy Among Us: Information Warfare and the Muslim Brotherhood." (Click the image below to see a two minute clip from the DVD.)

Please help us reach our goal so that we can fully execute our state legislative plan for 2012 and aggressively combat the avalanche of misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda that is going to be hurled at us by our opponents who are desperate to stop our plan in its tracks.

  Thank you!

Yours for a safe and free America,

Guy Rodgers

Military retirees to pay higher health premiums

Starting Saturday

Military retirees will pay slightly more for their health care starting Saturday, and more cost increases are on the way.

Premiums haven't been raised since 1994 and still will be just a fraction of what civilians pay. Under a change announced by the Defense Department on Thursday, individuals who enroll in the retiree program as of Saturday will pay $260 annually, up from $230, and it will be $520 annually for a family, up from $460.

Gingrich calls for changes in taxes, health care

Newt's 10 point plan

Hoping to revive his flagging bid for the Republican presidential nomination, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is calling for an overhaul of the way Americans pay taxes, buy health care and contribute to the Social Security system.

Gingrich mapped out the 10-point plan, which he's calling The 21st Century Contract with America, in a speech at a Des Moines insurance company Thursday. Key elements include repealing President Barack Obama's health care plan, giving taxpayers the option of paying a flat tax and allowing young people to opt out of Social Security.

Why fewer young American jews share their parents' view of Israel

Left-wing jewish writer indoctrinated in college

"I'm trembling," my mother says, when I tell her I'm working on an article about how younger and older American Jews are reacting differently to the Palestinians' bid for statehood at the United Nations. I understand the frustrations of the Palestinians dealing with ongoing settlements construction and sympathize with their decision to approach the U.N., but my mom supports President Obama's promise to wield the U.S. veto, sharing his view that a two-state solution can be achieved only through negotiations with Israel.

"This is so emotional," she says as we cautiously discuss our difference of opinion. "It makes me feel absolutely terrible when you stridently voice criticisms of Israel."

Census: Hispanics fuel US white population growth

More Hispanics calling themselves White

In a twist to notions of race identity, new 2010 census figures show an unexpected reason behind a renewed growth in the U.S. white population: more Hispanics listing themselves as white in the once-a-decade government count.

The shift is due to recent census changes that emphasize "Hispanic" as an ethnicity, not a race. While the U.S. government first made this distinction in 1980, many Latinos continued to use the "some other race" box to establish a Hispanic identity. In a switch, the 2010 census forms specifically instructed Latinos that Hispanic origins are not races and to select a recognized category such as white or black.

After demise of 'don't ask', activists call for end to military ban on transgender

Wow

With homosexuals now able to serve openly in the military, the gay rights movement's next battleground is to persuade the Obama administration to end the armed forces' ban on "transgenders," a group that includes transsexuals and cross-dressers.

"Our position is that the military should re-examine the policy, the medical regulations, so as to allow open service for transgender people," said Vincent Paolo Villano, spokesman for the 6,000-member Center for Transgender Equality.

Another Jihadist Sent To "Paradise"

Al Qaeda mouthpiece Anwar al-Awlaki is dead. The American-born Yemeni cleric met his end this morning in a coordinated airstrike that reportedly involved U.S. jets and drones. Awlaki was linked to various acts of terrorism, including 9/11 and the Fort Hood shooting. He was an avowed jihadist and sworn enemy of the United States. His demise is good news in America's war against Islamofascism.

Biden: It's Obama's Fault

During a radio interview yesterday, Vice President Joe Biden went rogue and denied the administration's spin on the economy. According to Biden, it is not Bush's fault! Here's what he said:

"Right now, understandably -- totally legitimate -- this is a referendum on Obama and Biden and ... the state of the economy. ...What's relevant is we're in charge. And right now we are the ones in charge and it's gotten better, but it hasn't gotten good enough. I don't blame them for being mad. We're in charge."

I'm not sure how things have gotten better. The unemployment rate today is higher than it was when the Obama/Biden team took office. And while Joe Biden might not blame the American people for being mad, President Obama appears to blame them.

In an interview with a Florida TV station, Obama said, "...this is a great, great country that had gotten a little soft and, you know, we didn't have that same competitive edge that we needed over the last couple of decades. We need to get back on track."

What on earth is he talking about? Did we lose our "competitive edge" when the Reagan economy was booming? Was America "soft" when we took on Al Qaeda and liberated 50 million Muslims in two nations? If anything, America may have gone "a little soft" when so many fell for all the hype about "hope and change" in 2008. But don't worry, Mr. Obama. We'll get back on track in January 2013 when you join the unemployment line!

Durbin: Obama Jobs Bill Can't Pass

For weeks now, President Obama has been barnstorming the country demanding that Congress pass his latest tax-hiking, big spending stimulus bill. And at every opportunity he has blamed congressional Republicans for holding up his so-called "jobs bill." While it's accurate to say that Republicans don't support Obama's tax increases, it is completely false to accuse them of stonewalling the bill.

Unbelievably, Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid hasn't even scheduled a vote yet. But here's the kicker. During an interview with a Chicago radio station yesterday, Senate Democrat Whip Dick Durbin was asked if Senate Democrats have the votes to pass Obama's bill since they control the majority. Durbin responded: "Not at the moment, I don't think we do."

Obama's jobs bill isn't passing because quite a few Senate Democrats don't support it!

Christie: The Consensus Candidate?

The clamoring for Chris Christie continues, and there are indications that he is reconsidering his decision not to run in 2012. A new Rasmussen poll finds that Christie would be competitive against Obama. The candidates are in a dead-heat -- Obama at 44% and Christie at 43%. In the past 24 hours, there have been two major developments worth noting.

First, the media are now reporting on Christie's health and weight. For example, in today's Washington Post you will find stories headlined: "A Leader For These Belt-Tightening Times?" and "Christie's Hefty Burden."

As I have said before, the left-wing media will do whatever it can to smear our nominee -- even if that means resorting to fat jokes in order to make Christie's weight a disqualifying issue.

But on a more serious note, others are beginning to scrutinize Christie's record, and just like Romney and Perry, there are things about Chris Christie that conservatives will not like. Here is a brief excerpt from today's Wall Street Journal:

"Less mentioned are his views on a range of other issues -- from abortion and immigration to gun control and energy policy -- that reflect the relatively liberal shade of his state but could dog Mr. Christie if jumps into the nomination fight."

On the abortion issue specifically, the Journal notes that during his 2009 gubernatorial campaign, Christie opposed parental notification laws -- one of the least controversial pro-life positions. In fact, 35 states currently have parental notification laws.

The Left's War On Our Military

Today the Associated Press reports that the Pentagon will now allow military chaplains to perform same-sex "marriages" on military bases. In April, the House of Representatives voted to prevent the Pentagon from adopting such a policy because the U.S. military is a federal institution bound by federal law. Whether President Obama likes it or not, the Defense of Marriage Act is still binding federal law. But wait... there's more.

Now that President Obama has officially ended the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, the militant homosexual rights crowd is demanding Obama issue an executive order banning discrimination in the military based on "gender identity" so that transgendered individuals can serve. Really?

According to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), "transgender" refers to "transsexuals, cross-dressers, gender-queer people, intersex people, and other gender-variant individuals." (You learn something new every day!) This is the problem with the homosexual rights movement. It starts out by demanding "tolerance," so "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is gone. But now we have to have a regiment of cross-dressing, "gender-variant individuals" too.

I know our military can defeat the jihadists. But whether it can stop the left-wing social radicals in the Obama Administration is another question.

U.S. blocks $200 million in aid to Palestinian Authority

Funding stopped by three congressional committees in response to UN statehood bid
PA calls move 'collective punishment.'
By Haaretz

The United States Congress has blocked nearly $200m in aid to the Palestinians, the U.K's Independent newspaper reported on Saturday.

The aid, which was destined for projects related to food aid, health care, and state building efforts, was to have been transferred to the Palestinian Authority during the U.S. fiscal year that ends today, according to the report.

However, following what the Independent described as an "unpublicized block" imposed on funding to the Palestinians since August this year, in response to the Palestinian bid for statehood at the UN, the remainder of the aid allocated to the Palestinian Authority for the current financial year will not be transferred.

The Independent reported that the block by three Congressional committees has been in force since August 18, when it was formally notified that...

Piling On: The New York Times and Israel

By Jerold S. Auerbach, AMERICAN THINKER

In last week's run-up to the U.N. General Assembly theatre of the absurd, The New York Times could hardly restrain itself. Fulminating about what was best for Israel, it repeatedly berated the Jewish state and Prime Minister Netanyahu for not acceding to its editor's wishes.

The fusillade began on September 11. The Times graciously conceded that Israel and the Palestinian Authority shared blame for the breakdown in peace talks. But "we put the greater onus" on Prime Minister Netanyahu, "who has used any excuse to thwart peace efforts."

Netanyahu's acceptance last year of the Palestinian demand for a ten-month settlement freeze was ignored. The Palestinian Authority responded by refusing to negotiate. With time expiring, it demanded a three-month extension - which Netanyahu, once burned, wisely refused. Nonetheless, the Times editorial praised the "moderate" Palestinian leadership...

The Coming Universal Caliphate

Jerry Gordon who used to blog with me on Israpundit and now blogs at the Iconoclast has just written an excellent review of Bat Yeor's new book

Europe, Globalization, and the Coming of the Universal Caliphate
Baat Yeor as you may know is coined the terms Eurabia and Dhimmitude and has written a number of books on such subjects.  Jerry and I know her well.  Here's an extract of the review.

European Backlash against Multilateralism and Multiculturalism

In late November, 2009 the Swiss SVP (Swiss People's Party) launched a successful referendum banning construction of minarets by mosques that was passed by a margin of 57 percent of eligible voters. Oskar Freysinger, head of the conservative SVP, noted in a London Times report, "In no case does this impinge on religious freedom. This has nothing to do with the practice of religion." Ulrich Schuler said in response to Swiss Government fears that the ban would breach the law on freedom of religion said, "This...

Jewish Israel is the key to its survival, not its end

By Ted Belman (originally published 3 years ago)

Jerry Gordon writes Burg goes ballistic: paints Israel as "Zionist ghetto" because he said "to define the State of Israel as a Jewish state is the key to its end". Others say the opposite, namely, that being Jewish is the key to its survival.

This is no small matter.

There is no question but that much demonization and slander of Israel has to do with it going against prevailing notions, except in the Muslim world, and insisting that it be a Jewish state first and multicultural second. Even in Israel this fight is waged by the left including the courts, media and academia. They support Israel as a state like any other state and argue it should be democratic first and Jewish second. In fact they agree with Burg.

I understand that this demonization is intended to bring about Israel's destruction either conceptually or physically. It is not about the "poor Palestinians" or about civil rights.

But the Jewish...

Liberal Jews love Muslims, hate Christians

IF LIBERAL JEWS ARE SO SMART, WHY ARE THEY SO DUMB?
Caroline Glick, JPOST

WITH THE overwhelming data showing that throughout the Arab world there is strong support for organizations and regimes which advocate the genocide of world Jewry, the American Jewish community could have been expected to devote the majority of its attention and resources to exposing and combating this existential threat. Just as the American Jewish community dedicated itself in the past to causes such as the liberation of Soviet Jewry and fighting neo-Nazi groups in the US and throughout the world, it could have been expected that from the Anti-Defamation League to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, that major American Jewish groups would be using the financial and human resources at their disposal to defend against this violent, genocidal hatred.

But this has not occurred. Many leading American Jewish organizations...

Construction is Israel's best negotiating tactic.

By Ted Belman

German chancellor tells Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in phone call that decision to approve new housing units in east Jerusalem has 'raised doubts that Israeli government is interested in starting serious negotiations'

Inherent in this statement is the belief that Israel must give the Palestinians, backed by the EU, what they want. But such belief denies the right to negotiate. Israel has the right to say 'no". There is no obligation to make a deal. There is no obligation in the Oslo Accords to cease building anywhere.

And as I keep repeating, Israel must build aggressively. This is the only way to force the PA to negotiate as time will work against them. The PA must pay the price of inflexibility.

Hamas Actor Abuses Animals to Teach Children Not to Abuse Animals

Hamas character pulls a cat's tail and throws stones at caged lions
Posted by Bill Levinson

Even though the video concludes with a child criticizing Nahool for his behavior, the animal abuse is genuine and not simulated. Note how Nahool exemplifies the three chief characteristics of Palestinian Arab culture: cowardice (attacking caged animals that cannot fight back), cruelty, and treacherous perfidy (petting the cat to gain its trust and then grabbing its tail).

Nahool's death in a later episode is unfortunately merely acted out instead of real like what he did to the zoo animals.

Obama legitimates assassination.

By Ted Belman

The killing of Anwar al-Awlaki Friday is result of military operation by U.S. forces. And he was an American citizen. In fact with the greater availability of drones these assassination have increased four fold. What is interesting is that liberals, Obama included, didn't like administrative detention and instead turned to assassination to avoid detention. Ironic, no?

Remember that Israel's policy of assassination always drew pious condemnation from the world. Still does. And Israel is still not permitted to assassinate Hamas leaders.

Also the liberal High Court in Israel has gone so far as to hold soldiers accountable for killing terrorists rather than arresting them.

What an upside down world.

Palestinians Apply for UN Membership

New PsyWar video, content provided by Hamas!
by Bill Levinson

The original was this anti-Fatah cartoon created by Hamas. This illustrates that propaganda material can, like artillery on a battlefield, be turned easily against its original owner with devastating effectiveness.

Click here to view the embedded video.

The depiction of violent rats with a Palestinian flag (later a skull and crossbones) was all we needed, and the burning books and demolished (by Palestinians) mosque were a welcome bonus. The depiction of Hamas as a brave lion fighting the Fatah rats was of course edited out completely.

To isolate Abbas, US prods Jordan to host Hamas-Damascus

This is so weird. Apparently both Saudi Arabia and the US want this. How does this weaken Abbas. For sure it weakens Abdullah. How can the US believe that Mashaal would be easier to deal with than Abbas? Really weird. The US could just cut funds to Abbas. Or if Obama thinks that is too destabilizing, he could always support Israel's right to the settlement blocs and come out against the right of return as Bush did. That he would never do. What about moving to Gaza? Ted Belman

Egypt warns U.S. not to link military aid to democratic transition

A new Senate bill aims to suspend military aid for 2012 until Egypt holds free elections and guaranteed full civil liberties.
By Haaretz and Reuters

Egypt has warned the U.S. not to pass a new Senate bill that aims to suspend military aid until Egypt certifies its full functions as a democracy, the Washington Post reported on Friday.

According to the report, 1.3 billion dollars in aid for 2012 will be suspended until Egypt holds democratic elections and guarantees civil liberties.

The Washington Post quoted an anonymous source who said that Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr asked U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other U.S. officials to intervene. According to the source, the U.S. officials "know the value of the partnership between the United States and Egypt and how much such conditions and language would be detrimental to future cooperation."

The U.S. has been pressuring the Egyptian government, saying it hoped the emergency law - widely...

Obama and Dems won't cut spending to the UN

Claudia Rosset discloses that the US pays $7 Billion/year to the UN and that,

Yet the chief effort currently on the table to reform the UN - Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's "United Nations Transparency, Accountability and Reform Act of 2011? - is playing in Washington as an utterly partisan issue. There are so far 98 co-sponsors for this bill, and not a single Democrat among them.

Why's that? The Hill reports that according to Rose-Lehtinen, the Obama administration is telling Democrats to stay away from her bill. The bill seeks to clean up the UN by revamping some of its financial incentives - basically proposing to condition a substantial share of U.S. money on UN performance. This would include potentially withholding some of the assessed dues with which the UN General Assembly bankrolls its self-approved and ever-expanding budgets, for which the U.S. dutifully pays 22%. The administration's argument against this approach takes the line that if America stops...

Europe: Palestinian statehood bid 'legitimate'

Europe's support for unconditional negotiations is phony because they keep demanding negotiations to be based on '67 borders. For that matter even recognizing the legitimacy of a state is both predetermining the outcome and setting a pre-condition.

Israel should not tolerate such interference. She should tell the EU and Turkey where to get off. Israel owes EU nothing. The PA on the other hand gets 500 million from them. They should make demands on the PA. Ted Belman

Ynet
The European Parliament on Thursday passed a resolution calling the Palestinian bid for statehood "legitimate."

"The right of Palestinians to self-determination and to have their own state is unquestionable, as is the right of Israel to exist within safe borders", the resolution said.

The European Parliament also reiterated its endorsement of the 1967 borders as a basis for negotiations, stressing that "no changes to the pre-1967 borders, including with regard to...

Obama's Jew-free policy

Op-ed: US president abrogating the right of Jews to live wherever they want in Israel

Giulio Meotti, YNET

By seeking to force Israel to cease building houses in Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem, Barack Obama is legitimizing the Islamist zeal for the eviction of 300,000 Jews who live in parts of Jerusalem that were illegally occupied by Jordan between 1948 and 1967.

Obama's administration just blasted Israel for the new homes to be built in Gilo, a Jerusalem neighborhood where 40,000 Israelis live. For 19 horrible years, Jordanians and Palestinians controlled the neighborhoods now under Obama's attack. Jews were summarily expelled. Property was seized. The historic synagogues of the walled enclave were gutted, trashed, some turned into makeshift barns.

Obama's de-legitimization of Jerusalem's post-1967 neighborhoods is nothing less than a renewed "Judenrein" (empty of Jews) policy. To decide, as a matter of policy, not to endorse the building of Jewish homes within...

He went on to question the effectiveness of the war, admitting that "we are not competing in that competition of ideas very successfully."

Ambassador Rice Battles Rep. Ros-Lehtinen

Clash at United Nations Pits Ambassador Rice Against Rep. Ros-Lehtinen Amid Plan To Seize Park for UN Staffers
Editorial of The New York Sun

The next drama at the United Nations is going to involve a clash between two women. One is the American permanent representative at the world body, Ambassador Susan Rice, who is known around Turtle Bay as the ambassador of the United Nations to the United States. The other is the Florida Republican recently elevated to the chairmanship of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who has been pushing to reform - and, in effect, to reduce - American payments to the institution, whose efforts in recent years have largely focused on isolating the state of Israel.

This is being brought to a head by the refusal of the United Nations budget writers to accede to any significant job cuts and to propose instead huge raises for its staff of international civil servants. The United Nations has been pushing such a budget in...

Christ Killing Iranian Religious Judges Threaten Pastor with Execution

If this is what they do to Jesus' followers, it is obvious what they would do to Jesus
by Bill Levinson

Fundamentalist Islam: Killing Jesus Again and Again and Again!

Picture - Killing Jesus Again

Copying and circulation of this picture is encouraged noting that the original is in the public domain due to age. As reported by

"White House Condemns Possible Execution of Iranian Pastor,"

Iran's religious judges have sentenced pastor Youcef Nadarkhani to be hanged for being a Christian.

"Facing Execution for the 'Crime' of Being a Christian In Iran" has more about this.

If militant Muslims have a phobia about Crusades, they seem to do everything possible to make another one by the world's infidels reasonable, necessary, and in fact desirable. In any event, noting their efforts to incite hatred of Jews by portraying Jews as "Christ Killers," the above picture is payback, truth for falsehood and with compound interest.

 Letter from IQ al-Rassooli

Scottish response to "Anti-Apartheid Israel"
This is a MUST READ article that needs to be disseminated in every university. If you have children or grandchildren in university please make sure they publish this important letter in the students' rag or post it on the university bulletin board.
A Scottish professor responds to campus boycott. The Edinburgh Student's Association made a motion to boycott all things Israeli since they claim Israel is under an apartheid regime. Dr. Denis Maceoin (a non-Jew) is an expert in Middle Eastern affairs. Here is his letter to those students.
AN EDUCATED NON-JEWISH TAKE ON ISRAEL.
PLEASE READ IT .
Dr. Denis MacEoin, a senior editor of the Middle East Quarterly, addresses The Committee of the Edinburgh University Student Association.
Received by e-mail from the author, Dr. Denis MacEoin, a senior editor of the Middle East Quarterly,

TO: The Committee Edinburgh University Student Association.
May I be permitted to say a few words to members of the EUSA? I am an Edinburgh graduate (MA 1975) who studied Persian, Arabic and Islamic History in Buccleuch Place under William Montgomery Watt and Laurence Elwell Sutton, two of Britain's great Middle East experts in their day.

I later went on to do a PhD at Cambridge and to teach Arabic and Islamic Studies at Newcastle University. Naturally, I am the author of several books and hundreds of articles in this field. I say all that to show that I am well informed in Middle Eastern affairs and that, for that reason, I am shocked and disheartened by the EUSA motion and vote.
I am shocked for a simple reason: there is not and has never been a system of apartheid in Israel. That is not my opinion, that is fact that can be tested against reality by any Edinburgh student, should he or she choose to visit Israel to see for themselves. Let me spell this out, since I have the impression that those members of EUSA who voted for this motion are absolutely clueless in matters concerning Israel, and that they are, in all likelihood, the victims of extremely biased propaganda coming from the anti-Israel lobby.

World Anti-American Cleric to Followers: Stop Attacking US Troops So They'll Leave Iraq

September 11, 2011

Anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called on his followers to cease attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq so as not to delay the planned troop withdrawal. (AP Photo)

BAGHDAD (The Blaze/AP) - An anti-American cleric is urging his followers to stop attacking U.S. troops in Iraq so that their withdrawal from the country isn't slowed down, a call meant to ramp up pressure on Baghdad's political leaders who are considering asking some American forces to stay.

In a statement posted on his website, Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr told his militias to halt attacks against U.S. forces till the withdrawal is finished at the end of the year as required under a security agreement between Washington and Baghdad.

Obama policy setting troop killers free in Iraq

If a cop and a promising student were gunned down and the shooter was caught, only to be freed after four years, the outrage would be palpable. Politicos would fall all over themselves to register their indignation and the press would be on it for weeks.

It happened in the case of New York State Trooper John McKenna and Pace University law student Michael Glover, who were serving in Iraq with the Marine Corps Reserve. Yet this story is virtually unknown, even though the injustice is enormous and systemic.

Five years ago, Lance Cpl. Glover, having put a scholarship on hold to volunteer for combat duty in Iraq, was the pointman on a patrol outside of Fallujah when he was killed by a sniper's bullet. Capt. McKenna, Glover's platoon commander, earned a posthumous Silver Star for giving his life in an attempt to save Glover.

Fellow patriots,

While the Obama Administration crows about killing Anwar al-Awlaki (one of the leaders of Al Qaeda in Yemen and "spiritual" guide for the Ft. Hood killer and the underwear/Christmas Day bomber), this video reveals something they would rather keep quiet:  The deep Islamist infiltration of our government and outright advocacy for Islam by the liberal press.  What you are about to see is a segment of "Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet," a documentary broadcasted on PBS in 2002, showering accolades on Islam and showing the rapid growth of Muslims working on Capital Hill as long ago as 2002.  But that's not the kicker.   The kicker is that the imam leading the prayer for these Muslim congressional employees is none other than Anwar al-Awlaki!

This is a MUST-SEE, starting at 2:10 minute mark --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=P1eQIf6IQ1k (1 minute of this is enough, but you may want to hold on for the big punch line at the 3:30 minute mark)

If you care to see more of this PBS special, you'll get to see Karen Armstrong and many other apologists for Islam do all they can to convince you the Islam is a "religion of peace."  I'm sure they're shocked (shocked!) when the people they've been defending turn out to be terrorists.

The Obama administration told the Palestinian Authority it cannot significantly help advance a Palestinian state until after the 2012 presidential elections, a top PA official told WND.

The official, however, said the U.S. will press for a Palestinian state quickly if President Obama is re-elected.

"The main message we received from the U.S. is that nothing will happen in a serious way before the 2012 elections," said the official.

The President Zero Jobs Bill

To hear the Leftmedia tell it, economists are giving positive reviews to the $447 billion "jobs" bill that Barack Obama proposed earlier this month before a joint session of Congress. It seems, however, that "positive" is a relative term, and that the media are shamelessly carrying Obama's water. Same story, different day.

Obama Jobs Plan Prevents 2012 Recession in Survey of Economists spun the Bloomberg headline. This transparent attempt to candy-coat the story becomes painfully evident by the second paragraph: "The legislation, submitted to Congress this month, would increase gross domestic product by 0.6 percent next year and add or keep 275,000 workers on payrolls, the median estimates in the survey of 34 economists showed. The program would also lower the jobless rate by 0.2 percentage point in 2012."

Forgive us for not being impressed, but 0.6 percent improvement in GDP? Unemployment reduced by 0.2 percent? And 275,000 jobs at a cost of $447 billion? Let's look at the math: That comes out to roughly $1.6 million per job, and for an "investment" of $447 billion, GDP will gain less than $90 billion. Headline unemployment would remain at nearly 9 percent, a point higher than we were supposed to see with the first stimulus. Indeed, Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto's headline was far more accurate: A Rip-Off at Half the Price.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is undaunted, however. Geithner said Stimulus Jr. is worth it, though he argued that the cost per job is the wrong way to measure its effectiveness. Naturally. "You've got to think about the costs of the alternatives," Geithner said. "If the alternative plan is for Washington to do nothing, that's unacceptable." The "do something -- anything" attitude has made us $4 trillion poorer over the last three years with nothing to show for it. But what's another half-trillion if it will help re-elect Obama?

Joe Biden took another tack: "Look, we should be doing all of this stuff even if we were growing by 8 percent, even if there was a 3 percent unemployment rate in America." It's not about the economy, it's about the size of government.

Despite Obama's incessant calls to "pass it right away," House Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson (D-CT) introduced the legislation in the House just this Wednesday -- three weeks after the president's speech. H.R. 12, is identical to S. 1549, introduced in the Senate last week by Majority Leader Harry Reid. The Republican-controlled House is unlikely to put the bill up for a vote, given the president's insistence on $1.5 trillion in tax increases as part of the deal.

Even the Democrat-controlled Senate, though, has been slow to act -- Democrats don't have the votes. When the upper chamber returns from a weeklong recess, Reid will instead push a vote on a bill to label China a currency manipulator. Of the jobs bill Reid said, "We'll get to that, but let's get some of these things done that we have to get done first." Like washing their hair.

What's the right way to create jobs?

Quote of the Week

"Even though 50 some percent of the American people think the economy tanked because of the last administration, that's not relevant. What's relevant is we're in charge." --Joe Biden

Just send them an unemployment Hallmark card, Joe.

News From the Swamp: Appropriations

Congress has yet to pass FY2012 appropriations bills, but it did pass continuing resolutions before leaving for a week's vacation. The House voted to continue funding through Tuesday, when another vote will be taken to extend it further, and the Senate continued funding through Nov. 18. The latter bill passed 79-12, but only after some wrangling over funding for FEMA. Republicans had insisted in offsetting increased FEMA spending before the end of the fiscal year, but when FEMA suddenly "discovered" that they actually had $114 million, the disaster was averted. Barack Obama has overused FEMA -- 222 times so far this year -- and then Democrats used the manufactured crisis of FEMA running out of money to call for even bigger government. Multiply this trick hundreds of times, and you hit a $4 trillion budget.

This Week's 'Braying Jenny' Award

North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue, a Democrat, has come up with the solution to our economic crisis: Cancel democratic elections for the next cycle. "I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover," Perdue said. "I really hope that someone can agree with me on that."

Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. Yeah, that's just what we need -- less accountability. Upon receiving criticism, her initial defense was that she was "joking." Don't buy it. Democrats may soon regret choosing North Carolina for their 2012 convention.

From the Left: 'Raise My Taxes'

Barack Obama continued pushing his misguided economic plan this week, sticking by the claim that the only way out of our economic crisis is to raise taxes on the wealthy. It makes no sense for Obama to raise taxes on the very group with the capital to start hiring and investing so that we can avoid a second recession during his presidency, assuming the first recession actually ended. Yet the president's richest supporters are backing the move. The proposed tax hike has even been nicknamed the "Buffet Rule," after billionaire investor and Obama supporter Warren Buffet, who has repeatedly called for the president to raise taxes on America's highest earners. Buffet claims that his secretary had a higher income tax rate than he did, though he has failed to make his tax returns public to prove it.

At an Obama town hall meeting this week, one particular sycophant pleaded for Obama to "please raise my taxes." The source of this dreck was a retired Google employee named Doug Edwards, a rich Democrat who has contributed $300,000 to the party since 2000. Someone should show Mr. Edwards how to Google the address for the IRS so he can send an extra check. The IRS created a provision in which people can send in money to the Bureau of Public Debt, a donation that will supposedly be put against the national debt, and depending on individual circumstances, this contribution may even be tax deductible.

News From the Swamp: The Trouble With Taxes

The president's plan for raising taxes on the country's top income earners and his class-warfare rhetoric are playing well with his leftist base, but the proposal is proving a tough sell on Capitol Hill. Republicans have categorically opposed any tax increases, and Obama has responded in kind by threatening to veto any bill that would cut entitlements without raising taxes on the wealthy. Congressional Democrats aren't big fans of Obama's plan either, but they certainly won't agree to a measure that only cuts spending.

The situation leaves little room to maneuver for the congressional supercommittee established by the debt-ceiling deal and tasked with drawing up a deficit reduction package by November. The plan must include $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction over 10 years. If they fail, automatic cuts go into effect that will, among other things, slash hundreds of billions in defense spending. The one way out of this no-win situation for the supercommittee is to develop a plan for comprehensive tax reform that would broaden the tax base while lowering rates. This kind of compromise doesn't fit with Obama's divisive rhetoric, though, and it's doubtful that he would accept such a proposal.

Hope 'n' Change: Supreme Court Receives ObamaCare Appeals

Both sides in the ObamaCare court challenge petitioned the Supreme Court this week to take up the case and make a final ruling on the law's constitutionality. The Justice Department is challenging the August ruling of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, which called the mandate forcing Americans to purchase insurance unconstitutional. The plaintiffs in that suit, including 26 states and the National Federation of Independent Businesses, argue that the federal government does not have the right to force citizens to purchase a product.

The Court was already likely to address ObamaCare at some point during its term, which begins next week. Separate circuit courts have issued contradictory rulings on the law, causing the Supreme Court eventually to step in and make a final decision. The Justices face the daunting task of analyzing the 2,200-page law. Among the fundamental questions to be considered are whether the insurance mandate is unconstitutional; whether it must be stripped out and the rest of the law left intact; or whether all of ObamaCare must go to the dustbin. And all this will take place against the backdrop of a fierce presidential election.

If all the legal wrangling weren't enough to cause anxiety, a recent report by the Kaiser Family Foundation noted that insurance premiums for family coverage went up by 9 percent, or an average of $1,400, this year. The White House was quick to dismiss the report, but what cannot be denied is Obama's promise in 2009 that ObamaCare would lower insurance premiums. Then again, not one promise about the virtues of ObamaCare has materialized, and the law hasn't even been fully implemented yet. We hope it never will be.

Campaign Trail: Yes, We Cain?

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain won last week's straw poll in Florida by a convincing margin, claiming just over 37 percent of the vote. Texas Governor Rick Perry placed a distant second with 15 percent, while Mitt Romney managed to earn 14 percent without actively participating in the poll. Michele Bachmann likewise steered clear of the event, but her last-place showing in the contest doesn't bode well. Cain's victory coincides with a sudden spike in popularity for the former Godfather's Pizza CEO, and a recent IBOPE Zogby poll now puts him at the front of the field with 28 percent.

It could be that Cain's 9-9-9 tax proposal is gaining traction. His idea of a 9 percent business tax, a 9 percent income tax with deductions only for charity, and a 9 percent sales tax as a vehicle for switching completely to the Fair Tax is both substantive and intriguing, though adding a sales tax before the 16th Amendment is repealed is a dangerous idea. "If 10 percent is good enough for God," says Cain, "then 9 percent should be just fine for the federal government."

In case no one has noticed, Cain is a black man. And his impressive win in Florida puts the lie to the oft-repeated liberal canard that the Tea Party is racist. Can a self-made businessman who has never held elected office but has plenty of experience turning around ailing businesses win the GOP primary? Time will tell.

What do you think of Cain's 9-9-9 plan?

Palestinians Turn the Screws

As we noted last week, Palestinians had threatened to ask the full UN General Assembly to recognize their quest for statehood. Last Friday they pulled the trigger, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas formally applied for full UN membership, openly defying U.S. and Israeli opposition to the plan. Within hours of the request, U.S. and European leaders had proposed yet another pointless plan for restarting the dormant "peace" talks between the Palestinians and Israelis. This "new" plan, devised by the U.S., the European Union, the UN, and Russia, sets yet another timeline aimed at concluding yet another peace agreement no later than yet another target date, this time the end of 2012.

In a letter accompanying the statehood application, Abbas asks UN Secretary General Ban

Ki-moon to send the statehood request immediately to the Security Council and the General Assembly. However, on Wednesday the UN Security Council handed it to a committee that will review it in the coming weeks. The review period is supposed to be a maximum of 35 days, but Western diplomats say this limit can be waived, leading to the typical UN do-nothing, never-ending process. Even if the committee eventually moves the application forward, however, the Palestinian bid is doomed to failure due to U.S. opposition. As the recent New York special elections proved, Obama cannot risk further alienating Jewish voters by pandering to the Palestinians. Besides, most Palestinians really don't want a peaceful, two-state solution; they want a one-state Palestine solution, along with the extermination of the Jews. Until that changes, there will be no peace.

Warfront With Jihadistan: Changing of the Guard

Admiral Mike Mullen is stepping down as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs today, completing the DoD leadership transition from the Bush administration to Obama's. Robert Gates left the Defense Secretary post in July, succeeded by Leon Panetta, and in August, Gen. David Petraeus stepped down as supreme commander of U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan to take the helm at the CIA. Mullen is leaving after four years and will be succeeded by Gen. Martin Dempsey, an Iraq War veteran. Mullen worked to refocus U.S. military efforts on Afghanistan; he also championed drone attacks on militants in Pakistan, a tactic that has been very successful.

According to Mullen, the U.S. will be in Afghanistan for some time to come. "We continue on this path to shift lead security responsibility to the Afghans by the end of 2014," he said in congressional testimony last week. "That's why I think this strategic partnership declaration currently being negotiated is so important because that really is the commitment. We're going to be there longer than 2014." One reason why Mullen believes this is the unprepared status of the Afghan military. Just two of 180 brigades, totaling about 1,000 soldiers each, are ready to operate independent of U.S. forces.

Meanwhile, some good news from The Washington Post, "Anwar al-Aulaqi, a radical U.S.-born Muslim cleric and one of the most influential al-Qaeda operatives wanted by the United States, was killed Friday in an airstrike in northern Yemen, authorities said, eliminating a prominent recruiter who inspired attacks on U.S. soil."

Iranian Nuclear Program Continues

Iran continues inching toward its goal of nuclear weapons capability, aided by a feckless international community whose attention has been diverted by the Arab Spring. The latest International Atomic Energy Agency report, released Sept. 2, repeated what the previous half-dozen reports had said: Iran has not suspended nuclear enrichment at Natanz; has not suspended work on its heavy water reactor; has not suspended nuclear conversion work at Esfahan (where uranium ore is converted into uranium hexafluoride (UF6) in a multi-step process); has not addressed UNSC questions about military-related nuclear work; and is not observing the terms of the Non-Proliferation Treaty's Additional Protocol, which allows short-notice and no-notice inspections of nuclear sites. In summary, Iran is not providing the necessary cooperation, and the IAEA is unable to conclude that Iran's nuclear material is meant for peaceful purposes.

This week, several respected non-proliferation experts commented on the statements in the report -- statements provided by Iran to the IAEA -- that Iran has enriched 70kg of UF6 to 20 percent and was preparing to triple its production in the immediate future. Based on these facts, Iran is judged capable of enriching sufficient UF6 to the 90 percent level needed for a weapon in just six months or less -- 62 days, by the calculation of one expert.

Meanwhile, as we go to press, Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, a Christian convert in Iran, is set to be executed as soon as today for his refusal to recant Christianity and return to Islam. Such persecution is all too normal in Islamic countries. If executed, Nadarkhani will leave behind a wife and two young children. We pray for his immediate release.

Department of Military Correctness: Houston Cemetery

In July, we reported on the egregious policy of the Houston Cemetery's banning of religious speech at military funerals. Families wishing to use such speech had to submit a written request to cemetery director Arleen Ocasio. Even worse, this policy was supported by the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Now, however, it looks as if constitutional rights to free speech have triumphed over politically correct bureaucrats and big government -- at least in this case.

The mediating parties have come to an agreement that restores the rights of military families to choose the way they honor their fallen loved ones. The VA will no longer be able to interfere with prayer during funeral services or censor the words "God" or "Jesus" in condolence cards and gifts. The VA will also have a cross, Bible and Star of David easily accessible to families who wish to have them. While this is, of course, excellent news, it's still inconceivable that it had to come to this point. The real tragedy here is that those who fight to protect our right to worship have to fight -- even in death -- for their own. The agreement now awaits the signature of Texas Supreme Court Justice Tom Phillips. Unfortunately, that agreement does not include the removal of Arleen Ocasio.

Immigration Front: Alabama Law Upheld -- in Part

Alabama won a significant victory in its bid to combat illegal immigration this week when U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn upheld most of the state's recently passed law on the matter. Alabama law enforcement can verify the immigration status of those they stop, detain or arrest, and schools must determine that status upon a student's application. Blackburn had issued a stay on the law earlier this year while she determined her course, but she found that these provisions do not violate or functionally pre-empt federal law. She did, however, block enforcement of the parts of the law making it a crime to transport or harbor an illegal alien, or for an alien to seek or perform work. She also blocked the part of the law permitting discrimination lawsuits against companies that hire illegals. The ruling is a blow to the Obama administration, which is seeking to prevent enforcement of both state and federal immigration laws.

Income Redistribution: Solyndra Scandal Now Involves California Democrats

Interesting new wrinkles have surfaced in the scandal surrounding California-based solar panel maker Solyndra. One published report exposed a rift between three Obama administration officials. National Economic Council director Lawrence Summers and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner emphasized a go-slow approach in an October 2010 meeting, while their view about the vetting process was contradicted by Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who wanted even less scrutiny for the program. The meeting, however, occurred months after Solyndra had been guaranteed loans of over a half-billion dollars by Chu's Department of Energy, so that horse had already bolted the barn.

The long list of creditors stiffed by the solar panel manufacturer includes the California Democratic Party. CDP officials were surprised to be on the list, claiming they were unaware of a reason why they would be included. Solyndra doesn't owe us "any funds in any form," said communication director Tenoch Flores. It wasn't clear what the amount in question was. However, campaign finance records show Solyndra donated $7,500 to the California Democratic Party in 2010, after the DoE loan was granted. The company also spent over $1 million on Washington lobbyists between January 2009 and June 2011. Perhaps that's why they received more federal money even after violating the terms of the original deal by missing their first payment in December 2010.

Meanwhile, right behind Solyndra may be other companies for whom the DoE approved over $1 billion worth of loan guarantees this week for solar-generation projects in Nevada and Arizona. This includes a $737 million loan guarantee for the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project, which will allegedly create 45 jobs. The big news, though, is that an investment partner in the project is Pacific Corporate Group, whose executive director is Ron Pelosi, who just happens to be Nancy Pelosi's brother-in-law. Suddenly, we understand the spending of $737 million to create 45 jobs.

How does the Pelosi angle change the Solyndra scandal?

Regulatory Commissars: Obama Wants the EPA to Be 230,000 Stronger

Because the Environmental Protection Agency has deemed it now has the power to write and enforce new, tougher greenhouse gas regulations, they're asking for 230,000 more employees to help in that cause. The estimated cost: $21 billion. Meanwhile, the private sector continues to hemorrhage jobs every month, a process that would only accelerate with more regulations.

Clean Air Act regulations affect some 14,000 businesses annually. If these new rules are in place by 2016 -- which the EPA admits is an aggressive timetable for such far-reaching guidelines -- that number would jump to 6.1 million. With the EPA also estimating that it will take 1.4 billion work hours to enact all these regulations, the 230,000 employees will be busy for quite some time to come; the average number of hours per new hire would be over 6,000. That's three solid work years for nothing but enforcing rules no court has cleared. But just in case, the EPA wants the funding and authorization to do so. If these are the "green jobs" Barack Obama is seeking to create, there may not be any jobs left over for the rest of us when he's done.

Was Ford Pressured to Yank Commercial Critical of Bailout?

For Ford, the ruse was simple: Convince a person picked off the street that the company wanted them to participate in a marketing survey, then surprise him with a mock press conference peppering him with questions as to why he bought his Ford. In doing so, the automaker crossed a line with the Obama White House, which reportedly pressured the carmaker to drop the ad because it was critical of competitors that benefited from the 2009 auto bailout. That story has continued to percolate despite denials from both the Obama administration and Ford -- the latter claiming that the ad had merely finished its scheduled four-week campaign. However, lending credence to the entirely believable rumor of the White House strong-arming is the fact the automaker not only stopped airing the commercial on television but also pulled the ad from YouTube for several days before placing it back last week.

The commercial has made a folk hero out of Chris McDaniel, a proud Ford F-150 owner who touted his truck and the fact that Ford didn't take any money from the 2009 bailout. Not that Ford is an innocent bystander. The company has accepted federal loan guarantees in the past, though that was so it could work to comply with CAFE mileage standards. Meanwhile, we just hope McDaniel doesn't get the "Joe the Plumber" treatment, whereby every bit of made-up dirt on him is made public by Obama's Leftmedia minions.

Second Amendment: A Surprise Gunrunner Buyer

The scandal surrounding the ATF's Operation Fast and Furious just took another turn for the worse. Fox News reports, "Not only did U.S. officials approve, allow and assist in the sale of more than 2,000 guns to the Sinaloa cartel -- the federal government used taxpayer money to buy semi-automatic weapons, sold them to criminals and then watched as the guns disappeared."

Obviously, this finding runs counter to the Justice Department's claim that Fast and Furious was "botched" and that agents just "lost track" of the guns headed south. In fact, it appears that the Department's intent was that the guns would become lost in Mexico. Again, Fox News: "According to documents obtained by Fox News, Agent John Dodson was ordered to buy six semi-automatic Draco pistols -- two of those were purchased at the Lone Wolf gun store in Peoria, Ariz. An unusual sale, Dodson was sent to the store with a letter of approval from David Voth, an ATF group supervisor. Dodson then sold the weapons to known illegal buyers, while fellow agents watched from their cars nearby." Dodson blew the whistle after Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed with a gun from the operation in December 2010. It was bad enough that Terry and possibly hundreds of others lost their lives to supposed government incompetence. But it's an entirely different matter when the government acted with intent.

Village Academic Curriculum: No Waiver Left Behind

Frustrated by his inability to get Congress to reauthorize and modify No Child Left Behind (NCLB), Barack Obama has taken matters into his own hands, announcing that he will let states opt out of parts of NCLB -- provided they give the federal government more control over education policy, a technique otherwise known as extortion. Specifically, states could apply for and receive a waiver if they promise to follow guidelines established not by Congress but by the White House. Under NCLB, the Secretary of Education has the authority to grant waivers but not to use waivers to rewrite the law. Of course, we're by no means fans of No Child Left Behind, which itself gave the federal government unprecedented control over education.

As for the constitutional authority at stake, the Heritage Foundation explains, "The President does have a proper constitutional role to play in the legislative process. The President has the power to veto or sign a bill. Furthermore, as permitted by the recommendation clause of Article 1, Section 3, the President may recommend legislation to Congress. This ... does not mean that the President can unilaterally create law as if by royal edict." By attempting to turn the West Wing of the White House into a legislative action arm, this president is again blatantly violating the constitutional separation of powers. This hardly comes as a surprise. Indeed, bypassing Congress is nothing new for this president, whose penchant for executive edicts has repeatedly proven his disdain for the Constitution.

Does the federal government have a role in education?

School Bullies Are Often Administrators

It seems some school officials can't tell the difference between protected free speech and "bullying," opposition to which -- real or imagined -- has become all the rage amongst educators and legislators alike. In Fort Worth, Texas, freshman honor student Dakota Ary was recently served with an in-school suspension simply for conveying his belief that homosexuality is a sin. Newsbusters reports, "The comment came during a German class, where conversation turned to vocabulary for Christianity and the Bible. Dakota said one student asked about translations for homosexual terms." Dakota replied, "I'm a Christian, and I don't think being gay is right." For that, Newsbusters says, "The disciplinary referral given to [him] called his comments a 'possible instance of bullying.'" That's right. No hitting, no punching, no harassing. Simply stating a belief.

Of course, were the tables turned and a student opined that being a Christian is wrong, such a statement would undoubtedly have been labeled freedom of expression. But under Leftist political correctness, Christianity has become the only thing permissible to attack -- even when they're just saying "bless you." Thankfully, Dakota is not so easily intimidated. "If the same situation comes up [again], I think I'd do the same thing," he said. We certainly hope, however, that the PC-indoctrinated school officials would not.

And Last...

The "youth vote" was critical to Barack Obama's success in 2008, and he would love nothing more than to recreate that magic in 2012. Yet there appears to be little love for the president these days, even among his previously ardent supporters. According to the New York Post, Obama tried to carve out a slot on MTV to campaign for his re-election among young Americans, but MTV turned him down. That doesn't mean Obama will quit, though. In fact, he had an MTV-style message for young people: Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you. It remains to be seen if his love will be left unrequited.

Fox News changing direction ahead of Election Year:

Buh Bye Bye Fox, Hello GBTV

By Judi McLeod  Wednesday, September 28, 2011

imageNo one has to send this message viral: Fox News is 'repositioning' itself 13 months before the 2012 presidential election.

Fox CEO Roger Ailes calls it a "course correction" quietly adopted at Fox over the last year.

Only the timing makes Fox going central a Brutus blow because it's been a direction that's been coming for some time.

According to Howard Kurtz, "First, Ailes dialed back the TeaParty talk. Now he's turning the GOP race into a political X-Factor-and steering the election agenda one more time." (The Daily Beast, Sept. 25, 2011).

"It was part political spectacle, part American Idol, part YouTube extravaganza, a pure Roger Ailes production-and the latest sign that the Fox News chairman is quietly repositioning America's dominant cable-news channel

Obama's Analysts: Oops! We Put Muslim Radicals in Charge of Libya
By Ben Johnson, The White House Watch

Even as the Obama administration celebrates the killing of American-born al-Qaeda operative Anwar al-Awlaki and his traitorous friend Samir Khan in Yemen, its analysts are beginning to admit their war by decree in Libya empowered Islamic extremists bent on exporting jihad throughout the region. Thanks to Obama's policies, al-Qaeda-linked radicals may be pillaging Muammar Qaddafi's stockpile of weapons and receiving shipments of contraband from overseas.

Was the Justice Dept. Forced to Make Fast and Furious Tapes Public?
By Doug Book, FloydReports.com

Did a threat to "go public" by the man who made the recordings, Lone Wolf gun store owner Andre Howard, force the Justice Department to provide the previously "secret" Fast and Furious tapes to CBS News?

Andre Howard was in a tough spot. For two years he had provided valuable assistance on Operation Fast and Furious to the ATF, the FBI, and the Phoenix office of the U.S. Attorney, selling nearly 1,000 firearms at the insistence of these agencies to unsavory characters.

But Howard knew many of the buyers should not have been approved by the FBI for the purchase of guns.

On December 17....

Days of Rage, Hours of Opportunism

The last time I passed the Days of Rage protesters in downtown Manhattan, amid their litter of expensive camping equipment, iPhone chargers, mobile hotspots and handwritten cardboard signs, they reminded me of people who walk up to you in bars pretending that they just discovered a new brand of beer they want to share with you. Those people are plants, so are the people with torn cardboard signs surrounded by a few thousand dollars of equipment.

There are people who have reason to be enraged at Wall Street, but they rarely show up at rallies. They are too busy working a second job in their seventies or sitting outside a factory that was shipped off to China. And the people who do show up at rallies invariably have nothing to do with Wall Street and are financed by billionaires who made their money, directly or indirectly, in the stock market.

The paradox of Wall Street financed radicals protesting against the Street makes as much sense as a dose of class warfare from Warren Buffett. But the Street is a devious place, which makes money by betting against itself, and whose favorite politicians denounce it around election time. The cynical game of broken expectations is played here like nowhere else and the entire economy is on the table.

Obama poured money into Wall Street before denouncing it, and like Kerry, he was against Wall Street, before he was for it, before he was against it. At luncheons in exclusive restaurants, his allies are still explaining to hedge fund managers that Barry doesn't really mean it. He's just trying to get elected.

"Smoking Gun" In Fast And Furious?

Is anyone going to cover this?

This just might be the smoking gun we've been waiting for to break the festering "Fast and Furious" gun-running scandal wide open: the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives apparently ordered one of its own agents to purchase firearms with taxpayer money, and sell them directly to a Mexican drug cartel.

Let that sink in: After months of pretending that "Fast and Furious" was a botched surveillance operation of illegal gun-running spearheaded by the ATF and the US attorney's office in Phoenix, it turns out that the government itself was selling guns to the bad guys.

Agent John Dodson was ordered to buy four Draco pistols for cash and even got a letter from his supervisor, David Voth, authorizing a federally licensed gun dealer to sell him the guns without bothering about the necessary paperwork.

"Please accept this letter in lieu of completing an ATF Form 4473 for the purchase of four (4) CAI, Model Draco, 7.62x39 mm pistols, by Special Agent John Dodson," read the June 1, 2010, letter. "These aforementioned pistols will be used by Special Agent Dodson in furtherance of performance of his official duties."

On orders, Dodson then sold the guns to known criminals, who first stashed them away and then -- deliberately unhindered by the ATF or any other agency -- whisked them off to Mexico.

Morning Bell: The Solyndra Legacies

Days before a recent deadline, the Department of Energy brazenly approved two additional loans for more than $1 billion for solar energy projects in the Obama Administration's green jobs program. The latest ill-fated ventures include a $737 million loan guarantee to Solar Reserve for a 110-megawatt solar tower on federal land in Nevada and a $337 million guarantee for Mesquite Solar 1 to develop a 150-megawatt solar plant in Arizona.

Loan guarantees like these are destined to fail, because they are either granted to companies that could not remain viable without them or because the loan was supported by political connections; or both. This round of loans includes the latter-just as it appears Solyndra was aided.

Was the Justice Department FORCED to make the "Fast and Furious" tapes public?

Sep 30, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Doug Book, staff writer

Did a threat to  "go public"  by the man who did the recording-Lone Wolf gun store owner Andre Howard-force the US Justice Department to provide the previously  "secret"  Fast and Furious tapes to CBS News?

Andre Howard was in a tough spot. For two years he had provided valuable Operation Fast and Furious assistance to the ATF,  the FBI and the Phoenix office of the US Attorney,  selling nearly 1000 firearms-at the insistence of these agencies-to some pretty unsavory characters.

But Howard knew many of the buyers should not have been approved by the FBI for the purchase of guns.

On December 17th of 2009,  Howard met with Assistant US Attorney Emory Hurley,  ATF case agent Hope Macallister and ATF Group Supervisor David Voth.

According to an email Hurley sent his boss,  US Attorney Dennis Burke a YEAR LATER in January of 2011,  Howard  "...expressed concern about the cooperation he was providing and ... Continue Reading:Was the Justice Department FORCED to make the "Fast and Furious" tapes public?

Good news! The UAW on the ropes and running out of money

Sep 29, 2011 05:11 pm | Coach Collins

  By Kevin "Coach" Collins

There is a growing financial deficit that we have not heard much about. The Left is working hard to smother it, but news of impending doom for the United Auto Workers (UAW) can not be changed by ignoring it. A very wise tactic employed by the auto manufacturers has yielded a major bit of "intelligence": the UAW is locked into a "ticking time bomb" that threatens to blow up in its face.

The UAW on life support for deficit spending

A forensic examination of the financial condition of the UWA revealed, "The UAW is hollowed-out and heading for disaster." The report continued by quoting an anonymous source (afraid to have it get out that he/she spoke the truth about the ailing union)," The UAW might have three to five years before its budget difficulties forced a financial crunch, absent changes. The "hand-grenade" math of the projection gave the union less than a five-year window ... Continue Reading:Good news! The UAW on the ropes and running out of money

Hello Pakistan; can you hear me now?

Oct 01, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Jim Emerson, staff writer

Last week Adm. Mullen told the Senate Armed Services Committee the American Military had "credible intelligence" that the Pakistani Intelligence Services was the guiding hand behind the Sept 13 Tet Offensive like attack on Kabul and the truck bombing on a American base killing Afghanis and wounding 77 American soldiers.  As previously reported on here, the Haqqani Network, a band of terrorists, are provided a sanctuary in Pakistan and in turn serve as proxy to assert Pakistan's influence in Afghanistan.

The Admiral's assertions were the first time a senior official has acknowledged the link between the Haqqani Network and the Pakistani Intelligence Service. This has raised tensions between the US and Pakistan which have been on the brink since the killing of bin Laden last May. Pakistan has been exposed as an untrustworthy ally in the war on terrorism.

Racial warfare: Would "people of color" shakedown other "people of color"?

Sep 30, 2011 02:14 pm | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

Move over Jimmy Hoffa and Richard "Fifth Amendment" Trumpka union racketeering has just gone Affirmative Action. The Hispanics have staked their claim to shakedown economics in the construction industry and added a twist of racial warfare for flavor.

The United Hispanic Construction Workers (UHCW), a criminal cartel that has long masqueraded as a labor union, has once again been charged with engaging in its favorite crimes: labor racketeering and extortion.

The UHCW first came to the attention of the New York Police almost 20 years ago.  In 1993 when they were just learning the extortion "trade", they settled for relative peanuts. An indictment filed then charged five UHCW conspirators with squeezing a mere $8,000 and a one time additional payment of $1,000 from a victimized Brooklyn construction company.

In 2008 David Rodriguez, UHCW president, who was indicted, but not convicted in the 1993 case,  was indignant at the suggestion ... Continue Reading:Racial warfare: Would "people of color" shakedown other "people of color"?

If anyone believed the autocratic arrogance responsible for the infamous MIAC Report was on the wane,  rest assured that a believer in absolute authority like Barack Obama will never give up his totalitarian dreams of dominating the American public. He'll just resort to a change of tack.

For those who don't remember the Regime's initial assault on our Constitutional liberties,  it was neatly housed in a report entitled  "The Modern Militia Movement."

Crafted in 2009 by the Missouri Information Analysis Center  (MIAC),  it presumed to provide the American public with warning signs to help identify the traits and proclivities of the potential domestic terrorist.

Written by one of 58 national  "fusion centers"  developed under the Department of Homeland Security during the Bush Administration,  the MIAC report profiled as potential terrorists:  anyone who supported 3rd party candidates,  like Ron Paul or Bob Barr;  anti-abortion advocates;  members of the Constitution Party or Campaign ... Money: Finally something that can make Notre Dame's president act like a Catholic priest

Oct 01, 2011 03:05 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins
In 2009 Father John Jenkins the president of Notre Dame decided to invite Barack Obama a man with abortion support blood dripping from his hands to speak at the school's annual commencement ceremony.

At the time genuine Catholics around the country including Catholic bishops pleaded with the "stiff necked" Jenkins not to honor a man who is the very embodiment of opposition to Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life.Jenkins was not only unmoved but elected to award Obama an honorary J.D. which was hardly necessary.

Moreover when 88 Catholic protestors including at least two priests knelt on the grounds of the university which is dedicated to the Blessed Mother (Notre Dame literally means Our Lady) Jenkins ordered they be arrested for trespassing. For two years Jenkins refused to drop the charges until he was smacked in the head by the fury of his alumni's decline in giving. One need not be ... Can't argue with their facts. But it helps to remember that when the Republican party was established, with much of its platform being anti-slavery, it drew a lot of scorn from many segments of the country, people who realized their way of life based on a slave economy was threatened, and by northerners who felt slavery should be left alone. Our Tea Parties represent a threat to both parties and others content with the status quo,

To build up an accurate understanding of who we are and what we are about requires that we reach out to people, especially to those who only know what the media tells them. We can do this face to face and by paid advertising in our local media. Those are the only ways available to get our messages to many thousands, free of distortions by others.

Obama Leadership Image Takes a Hit, GOP Ratings Decline

Continued Dissatisfaction with Republican Field

Section 3: Congress, the Political Parties and the Tea Party

Just a quarter of Americans (25%) say they have a favorable opinion of Congress, while 70% have an unfavorable view. This is among the lowest favorable ratings for Congress in more than two decades of Pew Research Center surveys.

The number expressing a favorable opinion of Congress has fallen by nine points since March (from 34% to 25%), with nearly equal declines among Republicans, Democrats and independents.

The current rating is identical to April 2010 (25%), a period of highly negative views toward both the federal government and politicians. (See "Distrust, Discontent, Anger and Partisan Rancor," April 18, 2010.)

The Smart and the Dumb

Posted: 01 Oct 2011 04:01 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

The smart is Harold Hamm, the founder and CEO of Continental Resources and one of America's richest men. Hamm is one of the primary developers of the Bakken oil fields; he estimates that they contain 24 billion barrels of oil. The dumb is Barack Obama. The Wall Street Journal describes Hamm's meeting with Obama:

When it was Mr. Hamm's turn to talk briefly with President Obama, "I told him of the revolution in the oil and gas industry and how we have the capacity to produce enough oil to enable America to replace OPEC. I wanted to make sure he knew about this."

The president's reaction? "He turned to me and said, 'Oil and gas will be important for the next few years. But we need to go on to green and alternative energy. [Energy] Secretary [Steven] Chu has assured me that within five years, we can have a battery developed that will make a car with the equivalent of 130 miles per gallon.'" Mr. Hamm holds his head in his hands and says, "Even if you believed that, why would you want to stop oil and gas development? It was pretty disappointing."

This day in baseball history

Posted: 01 Oct 2011 02:53 PM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

A long-time reader writes about one of the biggest days ever in baseball history:

On October 1, 1961, the New York Yankees played their 162nd (and final) game of the regular season. Going into that game, Roger Maris had hit only one home run in the previous seven contests, meaning that he needed one more to break Babe Ruth's record of 60 for a season. A crowd of 23,154 showed up at Yankee Stadium to see if Maris would accomplish this.

The Yankees faced the Boston Red Sox. Boston's starter, Tracy Stallard, came into the game with a record of 2-6 and an ERA of 5.08. His lack of success was due mainly to poor control - he had walked 95 in 125 plus innings. The quality of Stallard's "stuff" was evident from the fact that he had struck almost as many batters (104) as had produced hits against him (105). But he was susceptible to the long ball, having yielded 14 home runs in the innings-equivalent of about half a season.

Maris flied to left field in the first inning. When he next faced Stallard, in the fourth inning with one out, the Yankees had managed just one hit and no walks.

Here, via Harvey Frommer, is Phil Rizzuto's account of Maris's at-bat:

Peppered in NYC

Posted: 01 Oct 2011 11:00 AM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

A bunch of leftists have been camping out in lower Manhattan for some days now, causing trouble where possible but generally not getting much attention, probably because no one is really interested in Communism anymore. That changed last weekend, however, courtesy of the NYPD; and as it happened, my nephew Andrew was in the thick of it.

Andrew is a free-lance photojournalist who has lived in New York for the last five years. He is a terrific photographer and has a knack for being where the action is, like a linebacker with a nose for the football. Over the years, he has had several run-ins with New York policemen who didn't like being photographed. On at least one occasion, they seized his camera. His experiences have given me a personal perspective on the issue of citizen observation of police practices. It is understandable that policemen don't like to be filmed or photographed as they are carrying out their duties in public places; who would want someone with a camera following him around as he does his work? Understandable, but completely unjustifiable: people obviously have a right to film or photograph what goes on in public places.

Last Saturday, Andrew was on the scene when protesters clashed with the NYPD. He told the New York Times that he "saw officers drag a woman from behind a net and throw her on the ground." He snapped this photograph, which he later sold to the Sunday Times:

Andrew started walking down the sidewalk, unaware that he had become enmeshed in what would turn out to be a significant news story. Moments before he took his picture, Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna had walked up to a group of young women and, for no apparent reason, sprayed them with pepper spray. The video has become famous, and has prompted an investigation by both the NYPD and Manhattan's District Attorney. I can't find an embeddable version for some reason, but you can view it here. At the end of the video you see the women on the sidewalk, screaming, while surrounding policemen look at each other with "WTF?" expressions.

Seconds later, apparently just after Andrew shot the above photo, Bologna unleashed another pepper spray. Again, there is no evident reason why. This short video clip shows the second attack; you can see Andrew briefly, with his press credentials plainly visible:

Andrew was rather nonchalant about being sprayed:

He stepped forward and photographed the scene, then started walking on a sidewalk toward University Place.

"I felt something wet on my hand and my face," he said, adding that he was not sure who had sprayed him. Moments later, he said, "it started to burn."

Afterward, Mr. Hinderaker said, he crossed paths with Inspector Bologna, who told him, "You better get out of here," and added that he could be arrested.

One can only assume that this kind of police abuse has been going on for a long time, but was not often revealed-at least, not this starkly-before the era of ubiquitous digital photography and video. But the days are gone when a policeman can wantonly assault protesters, no matter how obnoxious they may be-let alone photographers. That's a good thing.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers III, Starring Ronald Reagan

Posted: 01 Oct 2011 09:50 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

My Commentary magazine cover story, "The Liberal Misappropriation of Ronald Reagan," is out in the October issue.  Unfortunately it is behind a subscriber firewall for the time being; the link here is to the abstract only.  But this gives you a good reason to subscribe!

But here's one excerpt about Obama's abuse of Reagan:

WE CAN START with Obama's use of Reagan's words about "raising revenue from those who are not now paying their fair share," which the current president deployed to place Reagan's imprimatur on his own support for tax increases to reduce the deficit. Reagan spoke those words about a budget deal struck with Congress before the 1982 elections. That deal, which came to be known as TEFRA (the acronym for the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act), featured what was then, to date, the largest tax hike in American history. TEFRA came a little more than a year after the enactment of the Kemp- Roth bill-which slashed marginal tax rates at every level by 23 percent over three years, and which was the heart of what came to be known as "Reaganomics."

Obama's appropriation was and is disingenuous on every level. When Obama says, "fair share," he means something very specific: higher marginal income tax rates on the group he calls "the rich." This is the polar opposite of Reagan's policy approach in 1982. All of the "tax increases" to which Reagan agreed as part of TEFRA were temporary excise hikes on cigarettes and telephone calls. The bill also featured technical changes in the tax code (like the elimination of depreciation schedules and the reduction of tax credits and deductions).

Reagan understood that not all taxes are created equal, nor do they have the same effect on economic performance, and he believed that his tax cuts had to be permanent to have a positive effect on the economy (in line with Milton Friedman's permanent-income hypothesis). Thus he adamantly refused to consider any changes in the 1981 marginal-income-tax cuts, even as the revocation of those changes became the chief liberal domestic-policy objective from 1981 onward. Indeed, when the economy tipped into recession in the fall of 1981, leading to the ballooning of the budget deficit, the first and leading demand of Democrats was to cancel the third year of the income tax cut and roll back the elimination of "bracket creep."

Reagan never budged an inch, then or in the rest of his presidency. And his stubbornness was the cause of outrage so universal among liberals that they deafened themselves to the populist appeal of Reagan's supply-side policies-so much so that Walter Mondale came to believe it was a sensible strategy to tell the American people in his 1984 acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention that he was going to raise their taxes.

"Illegal Students Face Obstacles Even After College"

Posted: 02 Oct 2011 12:55 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

Well, yes: they are illegal, after all. But it hardly seems fair, to some, after giving them in-state tuition:

When Rhode Island became the thirteenth state to allow in-state tuition for illegal immigrants at public colleges, supporters heralded the move as one that would give students the kind of advanced education they need to succeed in the work force.

But students who are not here legally may still face a major obstacle even with the benefit of a college degree: Many have no immediate pathway to legal status and, under current federal immigration law, employers cannot legally hire them.

I like that reference to "current federal immigration law." That whole "illegal" business is just a technicality, really.

Dishonest, Divisive Democrats

Posted: 02 Oct 2011 12:00 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

The Democrats can't defend their record, so they believe they have no choice but to smear their political opponents. We saw it with the Tea Party. The Democrats had no answer for the concerns of millions of Americans about the federal government's soaring spending and debt, so they fabricated the claim that the Tea Party is "racist." Never mind that it made no sense-what does fiscal responsibility have to do with race, and why are some of the most popular Tea Party figures black and Hispanic?-the smear was endlessly repeated.

Now we are seeing a rerun. Just as the Democrats fabricated the claim that Tea Partiers shouted the N-word at Democratic Congressmen, they are perpetrating the myth that the Republican debate audience in Florida booed a gay serviceman. In fact, one or at most two people booed. The person who booed has not been identified, and we don't know whether he (or they) was even a Republican. A person who was sitting nearby described what happened:

Save Us, Obi-Won Clinton, You're Our Only Hope

Princeton historian Sean Wilentz writes some worthy books (especially The Rise of American Democracy: From Jefferson to Lincoln) and articles (such as his long essay on Lincoln in The New Republic two years ago), but is a reliable partisan ideologue for the most part.

He has an article up now at The New Republic that is curious for its obvious omission.  "20 Years Later: How Bill Clinton Saved Liberalism from Itself" is ostensibly a reflection on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Clinton's announcement of his candidacy for president in 1991.  But its notable omission of any mention of what lessons Obama might take from Clinton's success suggests he is up to some mischief, and is deeply worried about the damage Obama is inflicting on liberalism.

Gridlock? Yes, Please!

Posted: 01 Oct 2011 04:18 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

We're hearing a lot these days about how our politics are broken and Congress is paralyzed. This Associated Press article titled "Congress' dysfunction long in the making" is typical:

How did it get this bad on Capitol Hill?

Why does Congress barely function today? ...

[V]eteran lawmakers and scholars use words such as "unprecedented" to describe the current level of dysfunction and paralysis.

Of course, during the first two years of the Obama administration, when the Democrats controlled Congress as well as the White House, we didn't hear anything about gridlock, dysfunction and paralysis. During those years the Democrats passed Obamacare, the "stimulus" bill, cash for clunkers, increased regulation of the financial industry, and much more. They ran up trillions of dollars in new debt while driving unemployment higher. No paralysis there; not in Congress, anyway-it was the economy that the Democrats paralyzed.

DEBUNKING OBAMA'S TAX DEMAGOGERY  By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN
Published on DickMorris.com on October 1, 2011

When President Obama says that the rich don't pay their share of taxes, he is lying, distorting, and demagoging.

Here are the facts according to the IRS:

· Those making more than $1 million pay 24% of income in  taxes
· Those making $200,000 to $300,000 pay 17.5%
· Those making $100,000 to $125,000 pay 9.9%
· Those making $50,000 to $60,000 pay 6.3%
· Those making $20,000 to $30,000 pay 2.5%

And what of millionaires who pay no taxes?

There are 1,470 of them.  They represent six-tenths of one percent of all those with million dollar incomes in the U.S.  If we assume that they make an average income of $2 million a year each, taxing them at the same rate as other millionaires (24.4%) would yield $367 million, which would increase Treasury income tax revenues by 30 one-hundredths of one percent or one-third of one-tenth of one percent!

Overall, the IRS reports that the revenues from the income tax are sharply skewed toward taxes on the rich:

· The top 1% pays 39%
· The top 5% pays 60%
· The top 10% pays 72%
· The bottom half pays 3%

So who does Obama think he is kidding?

Jeb Bush Supports Perry's Tuition Stance for Illegals' Children

Thursday, 29 Sep 2011

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush indicated solidarity with Texas Gov. Rick Perry's advocacy of tuition breaks for children of illegal immigrants, according to the National Journal.

Perry, who generated a firestorm in his squabble with other GOP presidential candidates on the tuition issue in an interview with Newsmax, signed the first state law in the nation a decade ago allowing children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates.

Former Florida state Rep. Juan Zapata said the Lone Star state law served as his model for legislation he repeatedly pushed in his state, to no avail.

Biden: It's Time to Blame Obama, Not Bush, for Economy

Thursday, 29 Sep 2011

Vice President Joe Biden acknowledges that it's time to hold the Obama administration's feet to the fire for the sorry state of the U.S. economy instead of continuing to blame President George W. Bush.

"Right now, understandably - totally legitimate - this is a referendum on Obama and Biden and the nature of the state of the economy," Biden said during an interview with South Florida public radio station WLRN this afternoon.

Biden made the startling comment during an interview in which his main goal was to pitch for support of President Barack Obama's American Jobs Act.

Anti-Obama sign in Uptown neighborhood draws controversy

wwltv.com

September 28, 2011

Maya Rodriguez / Eyewitness News

NEW ORLEANS -- There are several political signs attracting all kinds of attention in one Uptown neighborhood.

On Wednesday, crowds gathered at the corner of Calhoun and Coralie streets, looking at several signs depicting President Barack Obama as either a dunce, a puppet or a crying baby in a diaper.

"It disrespects the nation -- and President Barack Obama represents our nation," said Skip Alexander, as he looked at one of the signs. "He represents everybody, not some people."

Dozens of protesters came by the house in the 1500 block of Calhoun throughout the day, demanding the sign come down.

"He wouldn't do that to [President] Bush, I'm sure. It's just insulting. It's insulting," said C.C. Campbell-Rock. "He's going to have to take them down."

"This is nothing put pure racism," said Raymond Rock. "This is a disgrace."

Help Us Expand our Activism Efforts Through the Use of Social Media

During our campaign last week to pass Chairman Lamar Smith's national E-Verify bill, our activists who live in a Judiciary Committee member's district took to a different type of activism in helping get the bill through the committee.

As usual, our activists sent tens of thousands of faxes and made thousands of phone calls, but hundreds more also used Social Media to send a message to their Rep. The Social Media universe gets bigger and bigger every day, so we'd like to know which of our activists who regularly use Facebook and Twitter would be interested in using Social Media to contact Members of Congress on immigration issues.

If you don't use Facebook or Twitter, don't worry. NumbersUSA will always provide faxing and phoning opportunities for all of our activists, and our Social Media opportunities will always supplement a faxing/phoning campaign. But the immediacy that Social Media can provide gives us another communications tool to reach Congress with our message.

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee completed its mark up of Chairman Smith's Legal Workforce Act, H.R.2885, which would require all businesses to use E-Verify. Ironically, the more liberal Members of the Committee tried to use conservative arguments in their attempt to delay or poison the bill. Some Members went as far as calling portions of the bill an amnesty for illegal aliens, while other Members argued that the bill for being against states rights and increasing the size and scope of the federal government.

Sustainable Immigration (part 3 of 4): American Taxpayers

By Jeremy Beck, Thursday, September 29, 2011

The immigration questions asked during the MSNBC/Politico and CNN/Tea Party Republican presidential debates approached immigration from an ethnic perspective. The media missed the chance to press the eight candidates on the larger impacts of immigration policy. The debates follow a troubling pattern where the media and politicians fail to recognize immigration's interconnectedness with other issues. This is the third of four blogs concerning immigration-sustainability questions policy makers should address.

 My Heritage

September 30, 2011

In an interview last night with a local news station in Orlando, President Obama claimed that America has "gotten a little soft" and lost its competitive edge.

Watch the video

At a time when economic crisis, ever-expanding government, rising international threats, declining civic education, and many other problems cloud America's future, it's hard to pin the blame for today's challenges on the American people.

While the President may have doubts in America's strength, at The Heritage Foundation we know our members work hard and make sacrifices. And we want to hear from you.

Tell us your story of the hard work and sacrifices you have made to make America great. The President needs to know that every day, Americans like you go to work to make America the most innovative and productive country in the world.

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
  • provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

  • Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
  • If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
  • And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

On Friday's Program

Unlikely: Glenn Beck fan AND fan of OccupyWallstreet AND from Texas?

Glenn had quite an interesting caller on radio today. A long time fan who has listened to Glenn since 2002 called in to say he sympathized with the Occupy Wall Street protesters. And he's from Texas of all places. Why did the caller sympathize with this left wing, anti-corporate, anti-cop crowd? Get the answer and the debate that followed on radio today HERE

Aww, shucks: another terrorist leader dead

American-born terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki has been killed by American forces. The death is being universally applauded as everyone agrees this dirtbag was a terrorist - ok, almost everyone is applauding it. Ron Paul immediately came out and expressed concern that an American citizen was assassinated without trial. Does he have a point? Or did al-Awlaki seal his own fate? Debate on radio today. Watch HERE.

Are you a devoted fan of e-books yet?  If not, are you thinking about getting one of the new $79 Kindles?  Either way, be sure to add your name to Glenn's new e-book alert list so you'll be the first to know about exclusive discounts and specials on Glenn's favorite books-including the ones talked about on the show.  And if you haven't tried an e-book yet, now's the time-get the new $79 ad-supported Kindle now!

Teacher of the year? Tells fighting students to 'shut up and sit down'

While this is certainly not the course of action most teachers should take given what could happen - it was pretty refreshing to see a teacher unafraid to discipline unruly students. One student gets up from his seat and confronts another student, who then stands up. Before the situation escalates any further, the teacher steps in and delivers an epic speech, ending the confrontation immediately. Teacher of the year? WATCH.

The left will hate this guy: car wash gives discount for reciting John 3:16

A car wash in Texas is taking an unusual step -- giving folks a $15 discount on oil changes if they simply recite John 3:16 when they drop off the car. Of course the left is flying off the handle claiming this guy is discriminating and all the rest. Glenn interviews the owner who responds to the claims and explains the reason why he's doing it. Tough not to love this guy -- but the left will find a way. Check out the interview HERE

Yeah right: Michelle Obama shops at Target?

Michelle Obama took an impromptu trip to shop at Target, a store Michelle says she shops at all the time. Glenn immediately called BS on that claim because after all, the First Lady tends to have pretty expensive taste. The conversation quickly spins out of control and devolves into french fries in milkshake talk. Or maybe that's an upgrade in conversation. You decide: WATCH.
