As part of our ongoing project of making candidates for various offices available for direct encounters, The Kitchen Table Patriots is proud to host a meet-and-greet with Speaker Newt Gingrich on Tuesday afternoon. Speaker Gingrich will be giving some prepared remarks and this will be followed by a question and answer period and an opportunity to interact with him directly in the intimate setting of The Moose Lodge.

September 27th is the 17th anniversary of the "Contract with America" that transformed American politics during the Clinton administration. On Thursday the 29th, Newt will be unveiling an outline of a new "Contract" in Iowa. We're sure he will be dropping some hints as to what will be in the new Contract.

This event is free, but naturally, if there are supporters of Newt, he will welcome donations to help him with his campaign.

The Kitchen Table Patriots, like most conservative Republican voters, has not endorsed Speaker Gingrich or any of the current candidates, but we are enthusiastic about having an opportunity to have him meet supporters and patriots from Bucks County and beyond.

David Library of the American Constitution

Sunday, September  25th at 3PM: Akhil Reed Amar, "America's Unwritten Constitution."  Akhil Reed  Amar  is a leading Constitutional scholar and the author of America's Constitution: A Biography and The Bill of Rights: Creation and Reconstruction He has been a member of the Yale Law School faculty since 1985, and is frequently seen on television and heard on the radio commenting on Constitutional issues in the news.  In his third lecture at the David Library, Prof. Amar will provide an overview of the lingering problems left unaddressed by the Constitution.

Thursday, October 13th at 7:30PM: David G. Post, "The Continuing Saga of Thomas Jefferson and the Internet."  David G. Post is the I. Herman Stern Professor of Law at Temple University's Beasley School of  Law.  He is also a Fellow of the Center for Democracy and Technology, an Adjunct Scholar at the Cato Institute, and a Fellow at the Institute for Information Law and Policy at New York Law School.  He is the author of In Search of Jefferson's Moose: Notes on the State of Cyberspace, a book that recreates Thomas Jefferson's Notes on the State of Virginia for the Internet.  Prof. Post's lecture will examine Thomas Jefferson's views on the First Amendment, the Copyright Clause of Article One, and how those views impact our use of the Internet today.

 Thursday, October 20th at 7:30PM: Kenneth C. Davis, "Why A President?"  At the Philadelphia Convention, the nature of the Presidency was a subject of hot debate.  What did the framers of the Constitution want the "chief magistrate" to be? What changes have been made to the Constitution that directly relate to Presidential powers and elections?  What would the Framers think of the modern American Presidency?  These are some of the questions that author Kenneth C. Davis will address.  He is the author of the popular Don't Know Much About... book series as well as America's Hidden History: Untold Tales of the First Pilgrims, Fighting Women, and Forgotten Founders Who Shaped a Nation and  A Nation Rising: Untold Tales of Flawed Founders, Fallen Heroes, and Forgotten Fighters from America's Hidden History. 

Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30PM: John Fea, "Was American Founded as a  Christian Nation? How Did the Founders Understand the Relationship Between Church and State?"   John Fea, Associate Professor of American History at Messiah College and a David Library Fellow, will investigate the role of religion in shaping the Constitution. Professor  Fea is the author of Was America Founded as a Christian Nation? and The Way of Improvement Leads Home: Philip Vickers Fithian and the Rural Enlightenment in Early America.

 Thursday, December 1st at 7:30PM: Paul Finkelman, "America's Covenant With Death: Slavery and the Founding."  Paul Finkelman is the President  William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy, and Senior Fellow in the Government Law Center at Albany Law School. His lecture will explore the relationship of slavery to the American founding, and will examine how slavery was written into the original Constitution, and protected by it.

Thursday, December 8th at 7:30PM: George W. Boudreau, "'A Republic, If You Can Keep It': Benjamin Franklin and the Crafting of the Constitution."  The series closes with a talk by an audience favorite,   George W. Boudreau, Associate Professor of Humanities and History at the University of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg.  Professor Boudreau is Project Director of the "Teaching Franklin" website (http://harrisburg.psu.edu/teachingfranklin/).  His lecture will explore Franklin's role in the creation of the Constitution.

No discussion on property tax reform is complete without talking about what it is costing to educate our children and whether or not they are getting the education they deserve, according to Nathan Benfield, Director of Policy Analysis for the Commonwealth Foundation.  Nate has researched and written on public policy issues including taxation, government spending, education reform and transportation funding. He has frequently provided testimony to Pennsylvania House and Senate committees on various issues including education.

 

David Baldinger a full-time volunteer for the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations (PCTA) will be with us to explain the School Property Tax Elimination Plan that permanently eliminates all school district property taxes as well as eliminating local school district earned income taxes (EIT). PCTA says Statewide, current school district budgets increase, on average, at twice the rate of inflation! And, "no tax should have the power to leave you homeless". David started this work in 2004 and since has become one of PA's leading experts on the subject.

 

Dr. Richard Brake is the Director of Educational Programs at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), a non-profit educational foundation with a mission to "Educate for Liberty"- by inspiring college students to discover and embrace principles that make America prosperous, moral, and free. Dr. Brake lives in Berwyn with his family and is currently an elective member of the TE school board. Dr. Brake has documented the failure of America's top universities to teach students the founding history, texts, and institutions of our constitutional republic. His commentary on this disturbing trend has appeared in media outlets nationwide.

The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

 

Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Rabbi's African mission 'changing perceptions'

A rabbi, a pastor, and an imam walk into a village in Kenya ...

It sounds like the start of a bad joke. But these men hope it's the start of something truly amazing.

"We're changing perceptions," said Rabbi Jon Cutler. "It's education. And we're working with various organizations to bring about peace and stability."

For the past nine months, Cutler, a rabbi from Warrington and a chaplain in the U.S. Navy, has been traversing East Africa, meeting with religious leaders, forging bonds and preaching tolerance and understanding.

Cutler is director of religious affairs with the U.S. military's Combined Joint Task Force -- Horn of Africa. Its mission is to promote stability in a region that's plagued with poverty, drought and famine and is susceptible to religious extremism, especially from the Islamic militant group al-Shabaab, based in Somalia.

Last month, Cutler was joined in his travels by the head chaplain for U.S. Africa Command, Col. Jerry Lewis, a Christian, and by chaplain and Chester resident Imam Shakur Abdul-Ali.

"People were intrigued when I spoke about myself, how a Jew and Muslim can get along," said Cutler, when reached by phone last week at his base in Djibouti. "We explained our friendship, about tolerance and respect and how it all comes from the same Abrahamic tradition."

The U.S. military is bolstering national and economic partnerships in East Africa, a region strategically located south of the Persian Gulf and a hotbed of extremist activity. But the mission is not a military one; it's humanitarian.

Awareness of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development is racing across the nation as citizens in community after community are learning what their city planners are actually up to. As awareness grows, I am receiving more and more calls for tools to help activists fight back. Many complain that elected officials just won't read detailed reports or watch long videos. "Can you give us something that is quick, and easy to read that we can hand out," I'm asked.

So here it is. A one page, quick description of Agenda 21 that fits on one page. I've also included for the back side of your hand out a list of quotes for the perpetrators of Agenda 21 that should back up my brief descriptions.

A word of caution, use this as a starter kit, but do not allow it to be your only knowledge of this very complex subject. To kill it you have to know the facts. Research, know your details; discover the NGO players in your community; identify who is victimized by the policies and recruit them to your fight; and then kill Agenda 21. That's how it must be done. The information below is only your first step. Happy hunting.

1. Herman Cain Won the Debate

Good Lord this was the worst debate I think I've ever watched.

The audio was terrible. When the audience clapped the sound of the candidates faded away. The charts and polling was silly. Too many bells and whistles and too damn many candidates on the stage.

Did you know Gary Johnson intends to balance a budget? Whoopitydoo.

Rick Perry was a train wreck in this debate. He flubbed his response on Romney flip-flopping. He got the first question tonight and stumbled. Good grief.

Romney did so much better than Perry. So much better. But I still cannot believe these candidates have pulled their punches on Romneycare. He's getting a free pass on it. But his answers on so many questions, while smoothly delivered, were Democrat like.

The winner is Herman Cain. The audience loved him. Other than his question on Israel, Cain's answers really were out of the park awesome. He provided the most uplifting moments and the most memorable lines, with substance included.

Biggest two surprises of the night? Rick Santorum came off like a jerk. He was way too angry on every answer, even those times I fully agreed with him. He was just angry.

Jon Huntsman gave some very good and substantive answers.

Lastly, if Newt Gingrich could operate like he debates he'd be President.

There are still 15 minutes left, but I've had enough. I guarantee the last question will be just useless. This was miserable all around.

 

 

2. Democracy Corps (D): Obama 41/55

The Greenberg/Carville-sponsored poll certainly does have a good deal to say about the current state of House races, albeit from as positive-towards-the-Democrats position (Hotline called it 'sugary spin') as possible. For example, for all of the talk about how 'cool' the electorate was towards Republican incumbents the truth is that they're averaging a 40/32 approval/disapproval rating, and that the generic Congressional vote went from 48/42 Republican/Democrat in 2010 to 50/41 R/D today (which is up from 46/44 R/D in March). And while the poll will happily tell you that Greenberg & Carville's recommended message will shift that advantage down to an even-steven 45/45 R/D generic Congressional number, what they don't mention is that the last time they polled this survey they were able to 'turn' a 46/44 R/D into 44/47 R/D. In other words: things have gotten subtly worse for the Democrats since March.

As Hotline said: sugary spin.

 

3. It's Great for America So Naturally the Left Opposes It

Next week will begin public meetings regarding the Keystone XL Pipeline, which will be a pipeline connecting Alberta, Canada with Gulf Coast refineries.

As I'm sure you can expect, the freaks are going to come out of the woodworks. The left is already giving them their talking points.

 


 

 

 

Tell a liberal how much you admire the lofty neutrality and commitment to truth at all costs of their house journal the New York Times.

 

NO. 4.
Congratulate them on the paper's brave, innovative, and imaginative experiment to merge total fiction with conventional factual news reportage by employing fabulist Jayson Blair. Say how disgusted you were by the obviously racist rumor that the only reason the Times kept the guy on for four years and employed him to write 600 articles was because of the color of his skin. Add: "Anyway, even if that WAS the reason, I agree with Arthur Sulzberger Jr.: It's SO much more important that a newspaper of record puts DIVERSITY before all that old fashioned crap like factual accuracy."

When CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, sent a letter to all 295 school districts in Washington state, the Pierce County chapter of ACT! for America swung into action.

What concerned Pierce County ACT is the request from CAIR that the schools invite members from the CAIR speakers bureau to come to the schools. Pierce County ACT is also concerned, as we are, about the misrepresentations of Islam that are common in public school textbooks.

In response, Pierce County ACT scheduled a Town Hall meeting in Puyallup, which was attended by dozens of people. Books used in three area school districts were shown to the attendees. For instance, one textbook devotes six pages to Christianity, four pages to Judaism, six pages to Hinduism and Buddhism-and 31 pages to Islam.

Does that seem balanced to you?

The facts about CAIR were also presented. CAIR was an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism financing trial in America's history. The Justice Department has affirmed CAIR is connected to the terrorist organization Hamas, which led to the FBI severing official outreach efforts to CAIR. CAIR is a Muslim Brotherhood front group. Numerous leaders of CAIR have been arrested, deported or convicted on various charges over the past several years.

We agree with Kerry Hooks, Pierce County ACT chapter leader, that an organization with this track record should not be invited into our public schools.

This is the kind of grassroots citizen action that frightens the Muslim Brotherhood, its front groups, and its enablers. When we present the facts, they don't dispute them. All they have in response is their tired, worn-out, and false allegations about "Islamophobia"-a term invented by a Muslim Brotherhood front group to intimidate people into silence.

Later this fall our sister organization, ACT! for America Education, will mail the Executive Summary of a textbook analysis report to America's 70,000 school board members. The full report will be available on the web.

We have spent over a year analyzing how 38 commonly used public school textbooks treat the history and doctrines of Islam. What we have found will shock you. Stay tuned.

 Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has launched an international campaign to achieve recognition by the United Nations for an independent Palestinian state. Abbas and his international supporters claim that only Israel (with the United States) stands in the way of this act of historical justice, which would finally bring about peace in the Middle East.

This video debunks the Palestinians' claim and shows that Abbas has been lying about the origins and history of the conflict. Palestinian leaders have rejected partition plans that would have given them much more land for their independent state than the Jews were offered for theirs. Rather than being the innocent victims of a "dispossession" at the hands of the Israelis, the Palestinians rejected reasonable compromises and instead pursued their aim of getting rid of the only Jewish state in the world.

 Americans deserve a hearty congratulatory pat on the back. We should all, collectively, be thrilled. Without our help, the Muslim Brotherhood would still be a disorganized terrorist group, struggling against laws in many countries unwilling to be forcibly placed under Sharia law.

 All it took was the long-time parishioner of the anti-Semitic racist Reverend Wright, Louis Farrakhan's beloved "Messiah", the man Gaddafi calls "My son", or "the Black African Kenyan", or simply "a Muslim" ,  to become president.

 That done, the American taxpayer has funded since revolutions aimed at throwing out regimes to keep Islamic terrorists in check. In Libya alone, we have spent some  $900 million dollars. Tomorrow, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas intends to introduce a resolution seeking unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state at the United Nations.

Thankfully, the United Nations will also hear from others tomorrow.  Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will address the world body in order to "tell the truth." 

CUFI has been telling the truth about Israel and the Middle East conflict since our birth 5 ½ years ago.  Over the past few weeks, we've taken the lead in telling the truth about the Palestinian Authority's cynical UN ploy.  

Since last Thursday, CUFI activists have sent more than 45,000 emails to President Obama asking him to keep his pledge to oppose this Palestinian resolution and urging him to assert the full diplomatic might of the United States in this effort. 

Since Tuesday, over 50,000 CUFI activists have sent emails to Prime Minister Netanyahu reminding him that when he enters the "lions den" of the UN General Assembly, he will not stand alone.  He will have millions of Christian supporters standing with him.

And so far this month, we've held 31 pro-Israel events in cities, towns and campuses from coast to coast to educate Christians about the latest threats to Israel and how they can best fight back.   

We know of no other organization that is able to stand up for Israel in such large numbers in so many communities across the country.  But these results don't come cheap.  It's only through the support of members like you that we've been able to build a powerful, national grassroots movement that can make a difference in Israel's time of need.  And it's only with your continued support that we'll be able to grow ever stronger to meet the ever growing threats to Israel.  

We know that Israel's enemies are escalating their attacks on the Jewish State.  We intend to escalate our support.  We pray that you will help us rise to this historic challenge.

This article may be long, but it is worth it because if we won't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.  Praise God for those who are willing to teach us from their experiences.  This is a story by Kitty Werthmann, a woman from Austria who believes America is truly the greatest country in the world, and does not want us to lose our freedoms the way other people lost theirs.

What I am about to tell you is something you've probably never heard or will ever read in history books.

I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote. I've never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.  In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.

Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.

The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other. Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna, Linz, and Graz were destroyed. The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.

We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933. We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.

After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home. An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn't support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Israel's Lose-Lose Scenario

No matter the outcome of the statehood bid for the Palestinian Authority, the only sure loser in this scenario is an Israeli government which has once again allowed itself to react to events, rather than dictating them. The price for defeating the statehood bid is almost certain to be more concessions. Whether Abbas gets his UN vote or gets blocked at the gate by Obama, he can still count on more Israeli territory extracted under pressure.

 
The terrorist game has always been fairly simple, create a crisis and force Israel to react, and then collect their winnings. The Israeli game has been to point at the terrorism and lawbreaking on the enemy side and expect the world to finally acknowledge that the Palestinian Authority has lost its credibility and force it to negotiate honestly. After decades of terror and lies this clearly isn't going to happen, but that hasn't stopped the Israeli government from playing that one card over and over again.

Sharon, for all his many flaws, was the only Israeli Prime Minister who actually took the initiative and deployed his own offensive strategy that did not depend on proving anything to the world. It was a bad strategy, but it's a measure of the ineptitude of the other four Prime Ministers since Oslo who couldn't come up with anything besides gamely trotting to the negotiating table, making a reasonable offer and hoping for the best.

Morning Bell: Obama Falling Short on Israel

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is taking his people's bid for statehood to the United Nations this week with a speech set for Friday, followed by a formal application for membership to the U.N. shortly thereafter. If Palestine succeeds in its unilateral efforts, it would be detrimental to U.S. interests in the region, isolate Israel, and deal a major setback to Israeli-Palestinian peace prospects.

Palestine's move comes despite intense U.S. diplomatic efforts and words from President Barack Obama warning that "efforts to delegitimize Israel will end in failure." The President has vowed to veto any such attempt in the U.N. Security Council and, in a speech yesterday to the U.N., he reaffirmed his support for Israel and a peace process that ensures its security. Heritage's Brett Schaefer, though, writes that the President's words were marred by a soft-pedaling stance toward Palestine.

President Obama proffered a more robust defense of Israel than has been his want, perhaps driven by a desire to bolster waning support among American Jewish voters. Even so, he still maintained a false moral equivalence between the Palestinians and Israel, stating, "That truth - that each side has legitimate aspirations - is what makes peace so hard. And the deadlock will only be broken when each side learns to stand in each other's shoes.

Obama Feels The Heat On Israel

President Obama spoke to the U.N. General Assembly yesterday. The speech was a "yawner," significant for what he did not say rather than what he said. There was a lot of rhetoric about how bad poverty and nuclear weapons are. (I doubt Iran's Ahmadinejad will be moved to end his nuclear weapons program.) Applause was polite, but nothing more. Obama's habit of apologizing for America during his first three years in office has won us no new "friends" among the world's assorted thugs and dictators.

Perhaps the most telling part of the speech was what Obama did not say about the Middle East conflict. There was no more finger wagging at our trusted ally Israel. He dropped the call for Israel to return to the indefensible 1967 "Auschwitz" borders. And he publicly acknowledged that Israel is surrounded by nations that have repeatedly waged wars against it.

What happened? Did Obama discover some new information on the threats Israel is facing that he did not know before? Of course not! What happened was the unmistakable evidence that voters who care about maintaining a strong Israeli/American alliance are abandoning Obama in droves.

Democrats lost a safe New York House seat they had held for over 80 years, largely over this issue. Groups like Christians United for Israel and the Emergency Committee for Israel, both of which I am proud to be a part of, have increased their grassroots efforts, and Obama's knees buckled as a result. But make no mistake about it: If "O" gets a second term, he will return in a second to his habit of bashing Israel.


Dolan Defends DOMA

This week Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York sent a pointed letter to President Obama with a simple message: End your campaign against traditional marriage and religious liberty. I never imagined that such a letter would ever need to be written to the president of the United States.

Dolan's letter was respectful, but he pulled no punches. The archbishop is particularly concerned by Obama's Justice Department, which is claiming that supporters of the Defense of Marriage Act are motivated by "prejudice and bias." The archbishop is right to warn against such claims, because equating traditional Judeo-Christian teaching with "prejudice and bias" will ultimately threaten religious liberty. Individuals are already losing their jobs due to an increasing intolerance of faith and common sense.

Archbishop Dolan also pointed out that President Obama has issued proclamations on Mother's Day and Father's Day, writing that they demonstrated "a welcome conviction on your part that neither a mom nor a dad is expendable." Dolan then added, "The institution of marriage is built on this truth... no other relationships provide for the common good what marriage between husband and wife provides. The law should reflect this reality."

The archbishop concluded his letter with this warning: "The Administration's failure to change course on this matter will ... precipitate a national conflict between Church and State of enormous proportions and to the detriment of both institutions."


I applaud Archbishop Dolan for speaking truth to power. You can read the full text of his letter here. In the days and weeks ahead, I hope other religious leaders will do the same and encourage their congregations to be active citizens who vote their values on Election Day!


Another Democrat Apologizes For America

The left-wing impulse to see America as a negative force was on display again. Last weekend, liberal Democrat Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) addressed the American Islamic College in Chicago. Rep. Quigley, who won a special election for Rahm Emanuel's old House seat, warned his audience that when he got to Washington, he found an "ideological war." Here's an excerpt of his remarks:

"What's worse is that when the economy is in this state people are angry, people are scared. ...What you see, unfortunately, is those who create scapegoats, those who pit one group against the another. The easiest way to do that, I think, is to pit your interests against those that are different from you, those that perhaps you don't understand or scare you. This is what I am witnessing every day."


While that is a perfect description of Barack Obama's economic plan and reelection strategy based on his recent class warfare rhetoric, Quigley was referring to his fellow countrymen. He went on to apologize to his Muslim audience, saying:

"I serve on the Judiciary Committee and discrimination comes in many forms, many shapes and many guises. You have my pledge to work with you to fight them. And I think it is appropriate for me to apologize on behalf of this country for the discrimination you have faced."


Just days after the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, this Chicago liberal is apologizing to a group of Muslims "on behalf of this country." For what? According to the FBI's statistics, Jews are significantly more likely to report being victims of hate crimes than Muslims. Moreover, recent surveys have found that Muslim-Americans are happy in America today, with an overwhelming majority saying that life is better in America than in most Muslim countries.

Quigley is right about one thing: There is an ideological war raging today in America. On one side you have radicals, such as Quigley and Obama, who seek to fundamentally transform America and who are eager to apologize for our country. On the other side are those who believe that America is the "last best hope of man on earth." Next November's elections may be the decisive battle that determines which side wins this war.


Obama's Bridge To Nowhere

Barack Obama is making his latest sales pitch for his $500 billion stimulus bill in Ohio today. The backdrop for Obama's photo op is the Brent Spence Bridge, which connects Cincinnati, Ohio, and Covington, Kentucky. The selection of this bridge demonstrates just how cynically political this gang in the White House really is.

Obama says we must "pass this bill" now so that we can put people to work making critical repairs to our crumbling infrastructure. But as the Los Angeles Times points out, the Brent Spence Bridge is not in dire need of repair. In fact, there are plans to build a second bridge span to handle additional traffic flow -- IN FOUR YEARS.

In other words, there are no "shovel ready" jobs at the Brent Spence Bridge. It was likely chosen because it gave Obama a chance to "slap" both Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Again, what Obama is offering is demagoguery, not leadership. America deserves better!

Nine Republican presidential candidates will take the stage tonight in Orlando, Florida, in a debate hosted by Fox News, Google and the Republican Party of Florida.

A new Quinnipiac University poll finds President Obama's approval rating is just 39% in the Sunshine State, with 53% of registered Florida voters saying the president does not deserve a second term. In the race for the GOP nomination, Governor Rick Perry leads Mitt Romney by six points (28%-to-22%).

It is a timely work as we have begun to bear witness to the ingathering of nations to the UN for its latest session where a great many tyrannical UN members get set to warmly welcome Ahmadinejad to the podium, where the Palestinians, will present letters to the UNGA and UNSC seeking a UN resolution to declare Palestine a state, which resolution is expected to pass given the majority of non-democratic UN members, sympathetic to Palestinians and antipathetic to Israel and the U.S, the leader of the democratic free world is flailing about trying to prevent such resolution from passing and reduced to practically begging Abbas to at least somehow soften the wording of his request for a resolution declaring Palestine a state.

 

Nature however, abhors a vacuum and so too does international realpolitik.  The report thus  concludes that the UN must be abolished and a new alliance created...

Only 18% of Americans think Israel is the most trusted ally

Israel Hayom reported on a poll of American citizens which showed showed

Asked which country was the greatest threat to the U.S., 34.8 percent said Iran, followed by China with 33.7% and North Korea with 17.6%. Asked which country was the second biggest threat to the U.S., 29.1% said North Korea, 28% said Iran and 16.2% said China.

As if they believed Iran would use nuclear weapons against Israel, 75.7% of respondents said yes, while 12.8% said no. Asked if they believed Iran would use nuclear weapons to attack U.S. military bases and ships in the Persian Gulf and Middle East, 69.8% of respondents said yes while 20.6% said no.

Asked which country was the most trusted and dependable ally of the U.S., 65% said England, followed by 18.2% who said Israel.

 

I am totally surprised that only 18% said Israel was the most trusted. No doubt the high regard for Britain as an ally is due to the fact that Britain was a partner with...

Don't be mislead by this poll. While 70% of Israelis would accept a Palestinian state, if approved by the UN, they would not accept 67 lines or East Jerusalem as its capital.

Congress had threatened to cut the U.S. aid.

Diplomats said Abbas, who is scheduled to meet Wednesday with President Obama, had signed off on the plan.

The scenario, which Western officials have been trying to engineer behind the scenes for weeks, "is now likely," a senior European diplomat said.

At the same time, US officials conceded they could not stop Abbas from officially launching his case for the Security Council's approval of the statehood effort.

But they hoped to contain the fallout by urging Abbas not to push for an actual vote in the Council, where the US has promised a veto, to give international peacemakers time to produce a statement that would be the basis for resumed Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Census Numbers: The Trend Toward Government Coverage Continues

The percentage of Americans on government health programs continues to grow, while employer-based coverage continues to decline. According to the latest Census report, 31 percent of the population received coverage through the government in 2010 compared to 23 percent in 1987. In contrast, 64 percent of the population had private coverage in 2010, compared to 75.5 percent in 1987. Employer-based coverage declined from 62.1 percent in 1987 to 55.3 percent in 2010.

 

Most analysts across the spectrum agree that the traditional employer-based model for health insurance has its shortcomings. No longer is the country in a 1950s labor market where people took a job at 18 and stayed with the same company until they retired at 65. Today people change jobs far more often than the previous generation. Another shortcoming is that when a person loses his job, he ends up losing health care coverage as well. Most analysts, regardless of political views, generally agree that to make the system work better, there needs to be greater portability and continuity in health care coverage.

The Constitution and Limited Government

Two cases that are currently making their way to the Supreme Court may well in the short term decide the constitutional issue of the reach and extent of the federal government. At stake, in other words, is the future of limited government. And together, these two cases present an exceedingly odd situation. In the case of the Arizona illegal alien law, the federal government is suing a state for constitutional violations; and in the case of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act-that is, Obamacare-more than half the states are suing the federal government, contesting the Act's constitutionality. It is indeed a litigious season.

 

But the Supreme Court's decisions in these two cases may not be the last word, because both of them present eminently political issues that will have to be decided ultimately by the American people.

Dow Plunges on Bleak Fed Outlook for Economy

Stocks have closed sharply lower after investors sold stocks with abandon, convinced that the U.S. and the world are headed for a new recession.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell as much as 527 points, the second consecutive rout since the Federal Reserve announced a change in strategy for fighting the economic slowdown.

At the close of trading, the Dow was down 391.01 points, or 3.5 percent, at 10,733.83. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 37.18, or 3.2 percent, to 1,129.58. The Nasdaq composite fell 82.52, or 3.3 percent, to 2,455.67.

Rush Blames Bernanke's Recession Comment for Market Plunge

Rush Limbaugh blames Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke for causing the stock market plunge today. Bernanke's statement Wednesday that the country is headed for another recession caused the implosion, Limbaugh said on his radio show.

"There is a reason that Federal Reserve chairmen usually don't do press conferences," Limbaugh said.

Bernanke delivered an awful assessment of the economy, both domestic and foreign, on Wednesday. The central bank's identifying significant risks to all financial markets followed his statement.

"It's not what Bernanke did yesterday," Limbaugh said. "It's what he said. We're headed for a recession, another recession. That's why the market's down."

Taking Down Socialist 'Tax Fairness' Rhetoric

Who decides what is fair?

One thing's for sure, Barack Hussein Obama is unrelenting in his effort to break the back of free enterprise. His Labor Day stimulus welfare, part deux didn't get a rise, so now he's rolling out the big guns.

 

On Monday, Obama brandished that favorite weapon of "useful idiots," class warfare. Classism (discriminating against a minority class of citizens on the basis of income) is like racism (discriminating against a minority class of citizens on the basis of skin tone), except for the fact that the former is acceptable to Leftist hypocrites (but I repeat myself), while the latter is not.

In a speech proposing $1.5 trillion in new taxes, ostensibly to reduce his rapidly accumulating deficit and debt, Obama claimed, "It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million. ... We can't afford these special lower rates for the wealthy. ... Middle-class families shouldn't pay higher taxes than millionaires and billionaires."

 

Obama flatly stated that mega-millionaires pay less tax and a lower tax rate than average American earners.

 

That might be "wrong" if it were true, but Obama is wrong and it's not true -- nowhere even close to factual. The red meat, however, certainly resonated with his wide-eyed sycophants. Here in Realville, the top 1 percent of income earners pay a whopping 38 percent of all tax revenues collected, while the bottom 50 percent of income earners pay less than three percent of all tax revenues collected. The remaining 60 percent of tax collections are confiscated from "the rich" between those brackets. And, of course, there are no "special lower rates for the wealthy."

 

 

Still, Obama isn't one for letting facts get in the way of a good three-pointer, particularly in the politics of disparity game. Moreover, some 30 percent of Americans are already generational dependents of the state, which is to say they've been too dumbed down to distinguish the most basic facts from fiction, and will thus support Obama regardless. (If you think 30 percent dependency is a problem, just wait until ObamaCare kicks in...)

 

Here is what Obama's adoring masses took away from his speech: Tax increases should be implemented "in a way that is fair" to "make it fairer" so "the wealthy" will "pay their fair share." Obama used that last phrase ad nauseam -- no less than seven times.

 

But surprisingly, here is what Obama's oft-adoring media took away from his speech: The editors of USA Today concluded, "[T]he plan's flaws are troubling. It pretends that enough money can be raised simply by raising taxes on the rich. It can't. There aren't enough of them."

 

The Washington Post noted that Obama "replaced one gimmick with another," and concluded that there is "absolutely nothing new here."

 

For The New York Times, David Brooks wrote: "[Obama] repeated the populist cries that fire up liberals but are designed to enrage moderates and conservatives. ... This wasn't a speech to get something done. ... We're not going to simplify the tax code, but by God Obama's going to raise taxes on rich people who give to charity! We've got to do something to reduce the awful philanthropy surplus plaguing this country!"

 

But Obama's racketeering capos regurgitated the party memo.

 

Jack Lew, Director of Obama's Office of Management and Budget, said, "We believe there's a fundamental unfairness to have middle class people paying higher marginal tax rates than millionaires and billionaires. We're not saying we should have a confiscatory tax rate; we're saying it's just not fair to have a world where it's so unbalanced."

 

Ratcheting up the classist rhetoric, Sen. Harry Reid blustered, "More than anyone else, these millionaires and billionaires benefited from Bush tax cuts and contributed $3 trillion to our deficit, to help plunge this nation into a financial hole."

 

As for his calculation to pit one group of Americans against another, Obama remains defiant: "Now, you're already hearing the Republicans in Congress dusting off the old talking points. 'Class warfare,' they say. ... I wear that charge as a badge of honor."

 

 

The most amusing part of Obama's speech was his fallacious invocation of our nation's Founding Father. Obama claimed, "George Washington grappled with the problem" of taxes. "[Washington] said, 'Towards the payment of debts, there must be revenue, and to have revenue, there must be taxes. And no taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant.'"

 

This quote is from President Washington's Farewell Address, and Obama might benefit from reading the remainder of the Address. As president of our young nation, Washington's biggest debt concern was about dispensing with the costs of the revolt over excessive taxation. Obama and his socialist bourgeoisie would do well to remember that it was excessive taxation that gave rise to the American Revolution, and that is the same catalyst which gave rise to the present day Tea Party Movement and talk of a second American Revolution.

 

While quoting Washington, Obama failed to mention that a tax on incomes was expressly prohibited in our Constitution. The taxes Washington spoke of were limited to those in Article I, Section 8, Clause I, "taxes, duties, imposts and excises ... but all duties, imposts [customs taxes], and excises [consumption taxes] shall be uniform throughout the United States."

What else did Washington say about taxes and debt? Most notably, he insisted, as did all our Founders, that our Constitution "which at any time exists, 'till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole People is sacredly obligatory upon all."

 

Regarding sacred obligations to abide by our Constitution, Obama shamelessly admonished those members of Congress who have pledged to reduce taxes and government spending: "[T]he last time I checked the only pledge that really matters is the pledge we take to uphold the Constitution."

 

(I hope you were sitting down when you read that sardonic citation.)  

 

Obama built his last presidential campaign, and is building the next, around the "change" theme, a euphemism for replacing free enterprise with Democratic Socialism: "This is our moment, this is our time to turn the page on the policies of the past, to offer a new direction. We are fundamentally transforming the United States of America. And generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was our time."

 

In a public address prior to his aspirations for national office, Obama asserted that the Constitution "is a document which, uh, reflects some deep flaws," and consequently, he expressed disappointment that activist judges have not broken it "free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution." He then went on to complain, "The Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can't do to you. Says what the Federal government can't do to you, but doesn't say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf." Say, for instance, "bring about redistributive change."

 

What is most "deeply flawed," however, is Obama's world view. This manifests itself via his abject disregard for Rule of Law as enshrined in our Constitution, and his advocacy for the rule of men under the so-called living constitution.

 

Should they be required to abide by their oath? Post your comments

 

Obama, et al., are not required by law to abide by their solemn oaths to support and defend our authentic Constitution and thus they have no sense of that obligation. The whole body of our elected and appointed officials in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches must be legally required to abide by their oaths. To that end, we introduced a measure to enact a legal mandate either through the courts, or, if that fails, through the legislature.

 

The bottom line in regard to taxes and debt is this: Raising taxes removes revenue from the private sector, which suppresses economic growth and job creation. Cutting taxes increases revenue in the private sector, which promotes economic growth and job creation.

(Memo to Republicans who counter Obama's tax plan with the mantra, "It's not good to raise taxes during a recession": May I remind you that it's not good to raise taxes, period!)

Obama closed his proposal to raise taxes saying, "It's also about fairness. It's about whether we are, in fact, in this together, and we're looking out for one another. We know what's right. It's time to do what's right."

 

In other words, its all about confiscating and redistributing wealth from the most productive group of job-creators in America -- small business owners -- to the least productive groups, mostly those who subsist on the state. That does not constitute "looking out for one another" and is most decidedly not "what's right."

 

The essence of "fairness" is outlined in our Declaration of Independence, which states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." The operative words here are "created equal" (not equalized by government redistribution) and "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights" (not granted them by the state).

 

That pre-eminent document of our nation's founding also stipulates, "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government."

 

Let's hope that ballots prevail over bullets, and that the government we abolish will be that created by Obama during his single ruinous term in office.

Outgoing Obama 'Car Czar' Makes Yet Another Communist Reference  August 17, 2011

Well, the bloom appears to have fallen off the rose for Ron Bloom - special assistant to the president for manufacturing policy - and man who in the past has revealed a curious respect for communist leader Mao Tse-Tung. The former "car czar," and architect of the auto bailout who once said the "free market is nonsense," announced last Tuesday that he will be leaving the White House.

 

But buried in a story on Politico's website about the departure is yet another seemingly veiled reference to Mao.

 

Bloom, who worked as an investment banker and then as a negotiator for the United Steelworkers union before entering a career in government, began his tenure with the Obama administration back in 2009 as an automotive senior adviser to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

 

Still, what Bloom might best be known for is his past comments about Mao and communist China.

For decades, liberals tried persuading Americans to abolish the death penalty, using their usual argument: hysterical sobbing.

Only when the media began lying about innocent people being executed did support for the death penalty begin to waver, falling from 80 percent to about 60 percent in a little more than a decade. (Silver lining: That's still more Americans than believe in man-made global warming.)

Fifty-nine percent of Americans now believe that an innocent man has been executed in the last five years. There is more credible evidence that space aliens have walked among us than that an innocent person has been executed in this country in the past 60 years, much less the past five years.

But unless members of the public are going to personally review trial transcripts in every death penalty case, they have no way of knowing the truth. The media certainly won't tell them.

It's nearly impossible to receive a death sentence these days -- unless you do something completely crazy like shoot a cop in full view of dozens of witnesses in a Burger King parking lot, only a few hours after shooting at a passing car while exiting a party.

"Be careful how you make those statements, gentlemen." Barack Hussein Obama had been president of the United States for all of two months. He was lecturing the titans of American finance who were struggling to explain-to a man with no meaningful business experience-how high salaries are necessary if American companies are to compete for talent in a global market.

 

"The public isn't buying that," scoffed the president. He wasn't talking about the public, though. "My administration," he warned, "is the only thing between you and the pitchforks." The pitchforks: that's his public.

 

Obama's formative background is the left-wing fever swamp of Chicago "community-organizing," a gussied-up term for systematic rabble-rousing-one it's now even acceptable to put on a resumé. The quest for raw power is the gospel according to the seminal organizer, Saul Alinsky-if we may use "gospel" in connection with an atheist whose most famous book, Rules for Radicals, opens with an ode to Lucifer for winning his own kingdom by rebelling against the establishment.

President Obama's Jobs Plan is Bad News for Charities 

President Barack Obama released his plan to reduce the nation's burgeoning deficit this week, outlining a number of proposals that will increase taxes and do little to reduce government spending. Also included in the president's deficit plan and American Jobs Act is a concerning proposal that could signal bad news for charities.

President Obama proposes to pay for his $447 billion jobs bill mainly by limiting tax deductions for wealthy Americans. Unfortunately, if enacted, this policy will likely dampen charitable giving and further shift perceived responsibility for social welfare from individual donors to the state.

The President's plan calls for lowering the rate at which wealthy taxpayers can take itemized deductions-from the current rate of 35 percent down to 28 percent, beginning in 2013. The change would affect individuals making more than $200,000 (and families making more than $250,000) per year.

This isn't the first time President Obama has suggested this approach. He did so in his proposed 2011 and 2012 federal budgets and in 2009 attempted it as a way to pay for his health care plan.

The result of President Obama's proposal will likely be several billion dollars in decreased revenue each year for hospitals, educational institutions, and nonprofits that help the poor. While giving would probably drop only a small percentage, the anticipated amount would total more than the combined annual operating budgets of the Ameri­can Cancer Society, World Vision, St. Jude Chil­dren's Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Heart Association.

Those who are served by these institutions aren't the only ones who would be hurt by decreased giving. Many people's jobs would also be threatened.

Perhaps most importantly, Obama's proposal sends the message that federal bureaucracy can deploy the resources of the wealthy more effectively than civil society can. Decreasing an incentive for charitable giving implies that the state should assume responsibility for people's needs, even at the expense of vital nonprofit organizations. Churches, ministries, and other community-based institutions, however, are often better equipped to serve people in need. And they often do so at reduced costs.

At a time when charities most need resources to care for the hurting and hire more employees, President Obama should seek ways to encourage voluntary giving and protect nonprofit groups. Instead, his proposed jobs bill moves the dial of social responsibility one more notch in the direction of the state.

Can A Public Person Be Libeled?

In the United States, I would generally say No. With respect to defamation, under American law, it is essentially open season on public figures, especially politicians. But Joe McGinniss may have provided us with the acid test, in the form of an email he wrote to an anti-Palin activist in Alaska in January of this year.

We wrote here about the absurd and even contradictory claims about Sarah Palin that are circulating in the news as a result of McGinniss's about-to-be-published book. But making an absurd allegation isn't enough to libel a public person; you have to say something that you know to be false, or subjectively believe is likely false. Since authors rarely confess, that standard has proved more or less impossible to meet in practice.

What is intriguing about McGinniss's email, which has fallen into the hands of Big Government, is that McGinniss bluntly admits that there is no evidence to support the lurid rumors about Sarah Palin and her family, some of which he passes on in his book. The emphasis is mine:

One of our more constructive critical commenters posed a challenge on my short Solyndra post on Tuesday, namely, did you folks get this worked up about Enron's collapse?

Short answer: Yes we did.  Longer answer: Starting before it collapsed in fact, and for much the same reason-its seduction into the politicized world of crony capitalism.  Enron's collapse bears some striking similarities to Solyndra, namely, a business model that increasingly depended on government support for profitability.  When that government support didn't come in time, Enron's house-of-cards collapsed.

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

 

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

 

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

 

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

 

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

 

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

 

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

 

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs.
