David Horowitz Freedom Center

David Horowitz  Luncheon & Book Signing

The Philadelphia Freedom Center is pleased to welcome our mentor and leader, David Horowitz to Philadelphia to speak about his new book, A Point in Time:The Search for Redemption in this Life & the Next.

David shocked the political left when he abandoned 1960s radicalism to become a conservative.  Founder and current  president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, David is also founder and editor of FrontPage Magazine.  He also founded Students for Academic Freedom, Newsrealblog.com, Discoverthenetworks.com, and is the author of over 20  books.

A Point in Time:

The Search for Redemption in this Life & the Next

Part memoir and part philosophical reflection, A Point in Time focuses on man's inevitable search for meaning - and how for those without religious belief, that search often leads to a faith in historical progress, one that is bound to disappoint. Horowitz agrees with Arcus Aurelius, whose stoic philosophy provides a focal point for the book, "He who has seen present things has seen all, both everything that has taken place from all eternity and everything that will be for time without end..."

Horowitz remembers his father; a political radical who put his faith in just such a redemptive future. He examines this hope through the other great figure who organizes these reflections, the Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky, whose writings foreshadowed the great tragedies of the social revolutions to come. Horowitz draws on eternal themes: the need we have to make sense out of the lives we have been given, our desire to repair the injustices we encounter, and the consequences of our mortality.

Interweaving episodes of his own life with the writings of the philosopher and the novelist, Horowitz explores how we provide meaning to an apparently senseless existence and the dire consequences that follow from seeking to redeem it by attempting to make a perfect world out of the imperfect one in which we find ourselves.

The Kitchen Table Patriots Present
A Free Meet & Greet with

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and

2012 Republican Candidate for President of the United States

Newt Gingrich

When: Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Where: The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge

Address: 127 East State Street, Doylestown, PA
Time: 2:00pm - 3:30pm

As part of our ongoing project of making candidates for various offices available for direct encounters, The Kitchen Table Patriots is proud to host a meet-and-greet with Speaker Newt Gingrich on Tuesday afternoon. Speaker Gingrich will be giving some prepared remarks and this will be followed by a question and answer period and an opportunity to interact with him directly in the intimate setting of The Moose Lodge.

September 27th is the 17th anniversary of the "Contract with America" that transformed American politics during the Clinton administration. On Thursday the 29th, Newt will be unveiling an outline of a new "Contract" in Iowa. We're sure he will be dropping some hints as to what will be in the new Contract.

This event is free, but naturally, if there are supporters of Newt, he will welcome donations to help him with his campaign.

The Kitchen Table Patriots, like most conservative Republican voters, has not endorsed Speaker Gingrich or any of the current candidates, but we are enthusiastic about having an opportunity to have him meet supporters and patriots from Bucks County and beyond.

For those who cannot make it, we will be streaming and recording the event on ourWKTP.TV UStream.TV channel.

Property Tax Reform and the Cost of Education - An Outstanding Round Table Discussion

When:  Friday, October 14, 2011 at 6:00 PM

Where: Phoenixville Country Club, Phoenixville, PA 19460  (610) 933-3727

Food and beverage service is available.  New menu!

THE BIG PICTURE ON PROPERTY TAX REFORM AND THE COST OF EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN!!

Our round table of three outstanding speakers: Nathan Benfield, David Baldinger and Dr. Richard Brake

THE COST OF EDUCATION GOES UP, UP, UP AND OUR PROPERTY TAXES KEEP GOING UP, UP, UP!  WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE THIS?

No discussion on property tax reform is complete without talking about what it is costing to educate our children and whether or not they are getting the education they deserve, according to Nathan Benfield, Director of Policy Analysis for the Commonwealth Foundation.  Nate has researched and written on public policy issues including taxation, government spending, education reform and transportation funding. He has frequently provided testimony to Pennsylvania House and Senate committees on various issues including education.

David Baldinger a full-time volunteer for the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations (PCTA) will be with us to explain the School Property Tax Elimination Plan that permanently eliminates all school district property taxes as well as eliminating local school district earned income taxes (EIT). PCTA says Statewide, current school district budgets increase, on average, at twice the rate of inflation! And, "no tax should have the power to leave you homeless". David started this work in 2004 and since has become one of PA's leading experts on the subject.

Dr. Richard Brake is the Director of Educational Programs at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), a non-profit educational foundation with a mission to "Educate for Liberty"- by inspiring college students to discover and embrace principles that make America prosperous, moral, and free. Dr. Brake lives in Berwyn with his family and is currently an elective member of the TE school board. Dr. Brake has documented the failure of America's top universities to teach students the founding history, texts, and institutions of our constitutional republic. His commentary on this disturbing trend has appeared in media outlets nationwide.

Davis will address.  He is the author of the popular Don't Know Much About... book series as well as America's Hidden History: Untold Tales of the First Pilgrims, Fighting Women, and Forgotten Founders Who Shaped a Nation and  A Nation Rising: Untold Tales of Flawed Founders, Fallen Heroes, and Forgotten Fighters from America's Hidden History.

Judical Watch is Demanding Answers  Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:

"The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2

But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.

True the Vote

We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action?   True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step.  For more information email  info@truethevote.org or go  HERE  to sign up now!

Agenda 21 In One Easy Lesson

Awareness of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development is racing across the nation as citizens in community after community are learning what their city planners are actually up to. As awareness grows, I am receiving more and more calls for tools to help activists fight back. Many complain that elected officials just won't read detailed reports or watch long videos. "Can you give us something that is quick, and easy to read that we can hand out," I'm asked.

So here it is. A one page, quick description of Agenda 21 that fits on one page. I've also included for the back side of your hand out a list of quotes for the perpetrators of Agenda 21 that should back up my brief descriptions.

A word of caution, use this as a starter kit, but do not allow it to be your only knowledge of this very complex subject. To kill it you have to know the facts. Research, know your details; discover the NGO players in your community; identify who is victimized by the policies and recruit them to your fight; and then kill Agenda 21. That's how it must be done. The information below is only your first step. Happy hunting.

What is Sustainable Development?

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For September 22, 2011

1. There Is No Travesty of Justice in Georgia.

Last night, the United States Supreme Court declined to stay Troy Davis's execution. He will, by the time many of you are reading this, be dead. There were no expressions of dissent or objection from any of the 9 members of the Supreme Court.

I like Guy Benson a lot, but his column on Troy Davis got my blood pressure up.

I'm hearing a lot from people opposed to Troy Davis's execution that there is no physical evidence in the case - and a whole lot of other hoo-haa.

First of all, let's set out that the case has been going on for twenty years.

Second, let's point out that two witnesses at Davis's trial testified under oath that Troy Davis admitted to the shooting.

Yes, those witnesses have now, twenty years and much badgering by anti-death penalty advocates later, recanted. A federal judge spent two days reviewing the evidence and the testimony last year and issued a 172 page order explaining why the witnesses recanting was "smoke and mirrors."

In fact, one of the chief nuggets of the case is that there was no physical evidence. Except that is crap. There is the matter of Troy Davis's bloody clothes that you've probably never heard of. And the gun.

2. Class Warfare: American Communists of 1928 Compared to Barack Obama

The other day I linked to a rather silly post at Think Progress by Matthew Yglesias. His point was that Obama is not engaging in class warfare because if you want real class warfare look at the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1928. That was real class warfare. Never mind how similar some of what the CPGB wanted in 1928 is what Obama is calling for now.

But we don't have to look to the CPGB. We can look to the Communist Party of America 1928.

3. Green Profiteers and Plastic Bags

Believe it or not, there's been a war going on over plastic bags for some time now. It seems that manufacturers of those reusable bags you see near the checkout line were none too pleased that so many people were continuing to choose plastic or paper bags as opposed to shelling out $20 bucks for their environmental solution.

So the reusable bag company known as ChicoBag did what any good environmental alarmist would do: they lied.

For instance, they claimed that "a reusable bag needs only to be used eleven times to have a lower environmental impact than using eleven disposable bags." They were close. It was actually 393 times or roughly 7.5 years to replace reusing a plastic bag just three times.

But, as always seems to be the case with wild claims of healing mother earth, their exaggerations weren't just limited to their alleged comparability to plastic bags.

This company even went so far as to hide the fact that reusable bags can actually have negative health effects since, unlike the evil plastic bags, reusable bags can become covered in bacteria.

They even created a bogus government website to push their agenda.

4. Get Ready: Conservatives Are About to Support the Federal Takeover of Schools

After Mitt Romney attacked Rick Perry for joining Milton Friedman in calling social security a "ponzi scheme", conservative intellectuals in the DC-NY corridor suddenly began treating Friedman as John Maynard Keynes' bastard love child with Karl Marx and rejecting all calls to reform social security because Rick Perry dared to call it a ponzi scheme.

Considering the behavior of conservative intellectuals in Washington and New York on that issue, get ready for them to support a federal take over of elementary and secondary schools because Mitt Romney today came out in favor of Barack Obama's Race to the Top and Arne Duncan's education reforms.

This is more than a subtle dig at Rick Perry.

5. On HPV and Virtuous Diseases

One of the disadvantages of being a procrastinator is that sometimes you lose great opportunities. I started on this story last week and put it aside because of travel, In the meantime I find that Michael Gerson has hit the subject much better than I ever could.

Though the kerfuffle concerning Michele Bachmann and the HPV vaccine from the Republican candidate debate in Tampa is about over, during the course of that debate I repeatedly encountered an argument that, in my view, belongs much more in Saudi Arabia than America.

Fact: there is no such thing as a virtuous disease.

Fact: no behavior or lifestyle choice merits death by cancer.

Reclaim rock for conservatism:

Dispute the premise of Edwin Starr's "War-What Is It Good For?" Answer the seemingly rhetorical question, "Quite a lot actually-it's been used to defend liberty, save Jews from extermination, prevent Nazis from running Europe, free blacks from slavery-you know, little things like that."

New Poll: Americans Believe 75% - 15% That Palestinians

Would Continue Campaign of Terror to Destroy Israel

After Getting Statehood

A new poll has shown that Americans believe by an overwhelming 75% to 15% that if Palestinians obtain statehood in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, they will continue their campaign of terror to destroy the Jewish state. The poll, conducted jointly by Democrat Pat Caddell and Republican John McLaughlin, also found that:

  •         71% of Americans believe that Jerusalem should remain the undivided capital of Israel, as opposed to a mere 9% who believe that the U.S. should force Israel to cede parts of Jerusalem, including Christian and Jewish holy sites, to the Palestinian Authority;
  •         82% of Americans believe that Palestinians  must recognize Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state before obtaining statehood, as opposed to a mere 7% who disagree;
  •         66% of Americans believe that Iran would attack Israel with nuclear weapons once it obtains them, as against 13% who believe otherwise;
  •         70% of Americans believe that Iran would attack U.S. military bases and ships in the Persian Gulf and Middle East once it obtains nuclear weapons, as opposed to 21% who believe otherwise;
  •         80% of Americans believe that, were Iran to obtain nuclear weapons, it would pass these onto terrorists with which to attack the U.S., as opposed to 12% who did not think so;
  •         64% of Americans would approve of a military strike upon Iranian nuclear facilities in the event that international sanctions fail to stop Iran from continuing its nuclear weapons program, as opposed to 23% who would not approve such action (McLaughlin & Associates & Caddell Associates National Survey, August 10, 2011).

ZOA National Chairman of the Board Dr. Michael Goldblatt said, "This latest survey shows that Americans continue to display strong support for Israel as a U.S. ally and clarity of understanding as to the nature of the Arab/Iranian war on Israel.

"These findings are also consistent with numerous surveys (a list of which can be found here) taken by a range of pollsters indicating strong and clear American public support for Israel over the Palestinians."

 Pajamas Media

Turkey's Islamist regime subverted and then opposed sanctions against Iran. That regime also declared Iran and Syria, Hamas and Hizballah to be its friends. It also sponsored a terrorist group (the IHH) to provoke Israel into an international incident that would generate Islamist martyrs and dead Israeli soldiers. Now, rejecting Israeli conciliation attempts (regrets; donations to families of jihadists who got killed trying to kill Israelis), the Turkish regime escalated to the verge of war.

Now the Turkish prime minister goes to Egypt, proposes an alliance with the Egyptian revolution, then advocates a united bloc of Arabs, Iranians, and Turks as well as war on Israel to the assembled Arab foreign ministers.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tells the Islamist Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, according to a U.S. diplomat,

"She encouraged Turkey to keep the door open" regarding Turkey's relationship with Israel. "We want to see them repair their relationship, so she encouraged them to avoid any steps that would close that door and, on the contrary, to actively seek ways that they can repair (their) important relationship with Israel."

That's it? Let me put this into a fictionalized reenactment:

Obama Stresses Support for Independent Palestinian State at UN

Wednesday, 21 Sep 2011

UNITED NATIONS - President Barack Obama pressed Israel and the Palestinians on Wednesday to relaunch peace talks as he made a last-ditch attempt to avert a U.N. crisis over Palestinian statehood and pull his Middle East policy back from the brink of diplomatic disaster.

Addressing world leaders at the opening of a U.N. General Assembly session, Obama -- whose earlier peace initiatives accomplished little -- put the onus on the two sides to break a yearlong impasse and get back to the negotiating table.

"There is no short cut to the end of a conflict that has endured for decades. Peace is hard work. Peace will not come through statements and resolutions at the United Nations," Obama said.

Friends,

The Jewish/Democrat "Friends of Obama" have again used their Jewish funding to come out against the Emergency Committee for Israel's (ECI) NYT ad  which demanded Obama stand up for Israel. ECI ad below.

Once again the American "Jewish" establishment forces, this time the AJC, have lined up in support of Obama, ignoring his leaning over backwards to give aid and comfort to the terrorist Palestinians. Dollars to the American Jewish Committee could be better donated to real Jewish/Israel support groups such as the ZOA, the Emergency Committee for Israel, AFSI and The National Conference on Jewish Affairs.

AJC slams pro-Israel group's attack on Obama

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The American Jewish Committee slammed a pro-Israel group for its ad campaign questioning President Obama's Israel commitment.

"This ad is highly objectionable, indeed counter-productive, to its stated aim of supporting Israel," David Harris, the AJC's director, said in a statement Monday after the Emergency Committee for Israel's full-page ad appeared in The New York Times.

The ad, headlined "Tell President Obama: Enough. It's time to stand with Israel," urges the president to defend Israel this week at the United Nations General Assembly, when the Palestinian Authority is pushing for statehood recognition.

It accuses the president of having "built a record that is not pro-Israel," citing Obama's criticisms of Israel's settlement policies among other factors, and makes five recommendations that it says would redress that assessment.

ECI's Recommendation to President Obama: Five Steps Toward a Pro-Israel Presidency

September 19, 2011

Click here to see this ad as it appears in today's New York Times.

Tell President Obama: Enough. It's time to stand with Israel.

Over the past two and a half years, President Obama has built a record that is not pro-Israel. He tells Jews they cannot build in Jerusalem; he has criticized Israel at the UN; he has pressured Israel to apologize to terrorists; he seeks the division of Jerusalem.

Because of these policies, Israel and the Palestinians have never been further from peace. As Israel faces hostility and instability in the Middle East, it is more important than ever that America and our leaders stand with our democratic ally, Israel.

During his 2008 campaign for president, Senator Obama promised to be a staunch and reliable friend of the Jewish State. There is still time for President Obama to keep that promise. Here are five steps that would begin to put his presidency on such a path:

This Article presents a fact or two of some importance...The Palestinian Authority distributes to 225,000 individuals either a paycheck or a subsidy....Just assume a population of somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 million in Gaza and Judea and Samaria (since the Gaza population is highly inflated)...If so, and you consider an average family size of 4-5 (it is probably much more)...then, more than one third of the households are supported by the International Community, if not more .......and this is in "good times", since  their economy is bolstered by Israeli  contribution and opportunities to work that most will not have without Israel's presence (God Forbid)......

Report: PA Could Collapse Without US Aid

The Palestinian Authority's top monetary official says the risk of a "PA collapse" is very real amid current financial stress.
By Gavriel Queenann

The Palestinian Authority's top monetary official warned Tuesday a cessation of foreign aid from the United States could lead to fiscal ruin and collapse, the PA's semi-official Maan news agency reported.

"It would have a major impact on the economic situation in the West Bank, if the you lose $500 million [in US aid] from financial support for development in the West Bank," Palestinian Monetary Authority Governor Jihad al-Wazir said.

"Really, the risk of a PA collapse is very real under the financial strain, without US assistance, without donor assistance in general," al-Wazir said.

European Jews Place Newspaper Ad against UN Ploy

The European Jewish Congress has published an ad in the International Herald Tribune calling on European leaders to reject Abbas' UN bid.
By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
9/21/2011

The European Jewish Congress (EJC) has published advertisement in the International Herald Tribune calling on European leaders to reject a Palestinian Authority unilateral declaration of independence at the United Nations.

Germany is the only European member of the United Nations Security Council that has said it will vote against the Palestinian Authority motion, if filed. A two-third majority in favor of the Palestinian Authority would force the United States to cast its promised veto to stop the process that would end years of talks with Israel.

"Only a negotiated settlement can bring lasting peace to the Middle East" and "unilateral action threatens regional stability and the hope of a peaceful future," the advertisement states.

While the Video starts with some humor, it does explain to the uninformed just what the consequences will be in the event of a UN vote....Just that Judea and Samaria are not covered in a proper historical perspective, and other Israeli policy items are sort of misrepresented a bit...But it is a good way to inform a segment of the population to Israel's situation and the useless and harmful efforts of the UN.......Especially to those who know almost nothing of the situation.....Howard

As Showdown Over Israel Looms at the U.N.,
RJC Releases Internet Ad: "Listen to Us!"

Will President Obama heed the voices of frustrated Jewish voters?

Washington, D.C. (September 21, 2011) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) released an internet ad today entitled "Listen to Us!" The ad showcases real Jewish voters in New York talking about their frustrations with the direction of the Obama Administration on Israel, the economy, and other issues. The ad comes at a time when the Obama Administration's pressure on Israel contributed to the Palestinian Authority's decision to abandon direct negotiations with Israel and instead push for statehood at the United Nations.

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said, "President Obama has a growing problem with Jewish voters and the results of the special election in NY-9 show how the Democrats can lose congressional seats because of it.

"For the past several weeks we've heard the pundits, the pollsters, and the political scientists talk about the race. Now listen instead to real voters as they express their concerns and frustration. The voices in our new ad, the voices of Jewish voters in NY-9, will multiply across the country and become an unmistakeable roar in November 2012, given the Administration's handling of Israel and the economy.

"The RJC made a significant expenditure of resources to encourage Jewish voters in NY-9 to use their vote to send a message to President Obama, and the voters did just that.

"We will continue to speak out to the American Jewish community, articulating the Jewish community's interests and values and encouraging our members to be active in the electoral process."

See the ad here on YouTube and here on the RJC web site.

Obama: Incompetent or Malevolent?

By David Solway In Daily Mailer,FrontPage

The phrase "politics as usual" has gained a certain currency in our time. Regrettably, it is no longer relevant. What we are presently witnessing cannot be described as politics as usual. Consider the concatenation of events and factors that now confront us: the upsurge of terrorism and the growing strength of Islamic radicalism, a United Nations that has violated its Charter and is now home to totalitarian regimes and rogue nations, the international ostracism of Israel and an impending war in the Middle East, the American betrayal of its allies and a foreign policy that supports the Muslim Brotherhood and faux Arab revolutions, the corrupting influence of the left in the mainstream media and the universities, the potential economic implosion of Europe and possibly of the United States as well, and perhaps most distressingly at so critical a historical juncture, the election of Barack Obama, a man with neither business, military nor...

Take your secret Saudi threats and shove 'em

By Ezra Levant, QMI Agency, Toronto Sun

Saudi Arabia has hired lawyers to threaten Canadian broadcasters who dare to run a TV ad critical of Saudi conflict oil.

I know this because I am the volunteer chairman of EthicalOil.org, the non-profit website that promotes Canada's oilsands as an ethical alternative to the conflict oil of Saudi Arabia and other OPEC dictatorships.

Alykhan Velshi, who runs EthicalOil.org, produced a 30-second TV ad comparing the treatment of women in Canada with the treatment of women in Saudi Arabia. That's a place where women can't drive, can't vote and can't even get medical care without the permission of their husbands/owners.

Compare that to Canada, where the mayor of the oilsands capital, Fort McMurray, is a young woman named Melissa Blake.

Saudi Arabia doesn't like criticism like that, though. They are a fascist state without a free press or any opposition political parties. And now they've hired one of...

German fund finances anti-Semitic activity

Fund established to compensate Nazi victims sponsors 'educational' booklets questioning State of Israel's right to exist

Eldad Beck, YNET

The resources of a Nazi forced labor compensation fund are being used to finance anti-Israel activities, some of which are clearly anti-Semitic, Yedioth Ahronoth has learned.

German fund "Memory, Responsibility and Future" was established 11 years ago to compensate Nazi victims who were subjected to forced labor during World War II. Now it turns out that some of its resources are being used for entirely different goals.

Yedioth Ahronoth has received a booklet including anti-Semitic propaganda and drawings, which was sponsored by the fund and prepared at the end of a student exchange program between high school students from Nazareth and students from an eastern German city.

The booklet allegedly tries to examine and compare the educational rights of young Germans and Israeli Arabs. In practice, it includes blatant...

A New, Selective 'Semi-Antisemitism'?

Only Jews Opposing Obama Are Evil, Greedy, and Have Dual Loyalty
by Barry Rubin, PAJAMAS MEDIA

I was horrified by reports that a powerful congressman, Henry Waxman, had said that Jews in New York's ninth congressional district voted against President Barack Obama "to protect their wealth." Could the obsession with backing Obama have led a leading Jewish politician to make such a stereotypical antisemitic remark?

In fact, Waxman's statement was taken out of context. As usually happens, however, a proper understanding of what someone is saying teaches far more than stereotyping their argument.

Let's examine Waxman's statement as quoted in The Hill newspaper:

I think Jewish voters will be Democratic and be for Obama in 2012, especially if you get a Republican candidate like Gov. Perry. But there's no question the Jewish community is much more bipartisan than it has been in previous years. There are Jews who are trending toward the Republican Party,...

"The Ideology that Time Forgot" Movie Poster

by Bill Levinson

Militant Islam, the Ideology that Time Forgot

We use "ideology" rather than "religion" to avoid confusing this Dark Age death cult with a legitimate means (including civilized versions of Islam) of relating to God, or a legitimate framework for relating to other human beings. The title was inspired by Edgar Rice Burroughs' "The People that Time Forgot." The concept of a tribe or people that time forgot is a convenient device for populating an action-adventure story with primitive and violent savages who capture civilized people for purposes like human sacrifice and cannibalism. Militant Islam does not however leave much to the imagination.

The mystery of where Gaddafi's gold is might be solved

Sep 21, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

If we follow the trail of public reports and leaked information we might have the answer to the mystery of: Where is Gaddafi's gold? Last March it was reported that Muammer Gaddafi had gold reserves in excess of 143 metric tons worth over $6 billion.  In the months since then the Muslim Brotherhood led fake "revolution" against Gaddafi has raged in the streets ofLibya. A few weeks ago the "rebels" apparently took control of the country and since then the hunt for both Gaddafi and his gold has been on.

On September 8 Reuters reported that Libya's central bank sold 29 metric tons of gold in April and May to cover the costs of fighting off the "revolution."

On September 12 the world was told that America had "boots on the ground" in Tripoli, but that it was only four personnel and two were demolition experts. Innocuous enough, but anything in ... Continue Reading:The mystery of where Gaddafi's gold is might be solved

Why did only 14 Senators sign this letter?  Where is Senator Toomey on this?  Linda

Senators urge pro-Israel stance from Obama in speech

WASHINGTON - US senators urged President Barack Obama on Monday to use his speech to the United Nations to restate strong US support for Israel amid tensions with Turkey and a Palestinian push for statehood.

"The world needs to hear unequivocally from you that Israel -- our friend, ally, and strategic partner -- is not alone in facing these threats," 14 lawmakers said in a letter released a Obama arrived in New York.

The senators accused Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of "anti-Israeli rhetoric," the attack on the Israeli embassy in Cairo, and the Palestinians' push to raise their status at the world body.

"We believe it is imperative for you to speak strongly, forthrightly and publicly about US concerns over these developments," they wrote to the president, who was to address the UN General Assembly.

"We need to make it clear that we will not tolerate continued threats to Israel by governments or individuals in the region or attempts to delegitimize Israel at the UN or other international forums. Violence and unilateralism against Israel will be met with the strongest US opposition," they said.

Democratic Senators Robert Menendez, Bob Casey, Kirsten Gillibrand, Dick Blumenthal, Ben Cardin, Chuck Schumer, and Chris Coons, Republican Senators Jon Kyl, Susan Collins, Mark Kirk, Orrin Hatch, Marco Rubio, and Johnny Isakson, as well as Independent Senator Joe Lieberman signed the letter.

It's Time to Tax the Trillionaires

Obama says that it's time to tax the rich. I agree, but while he wants to limit the tax to millionaires and billionaires-- I want to advance it to trillionaires.

Forget Warren Buffett and his secretary and the rest of the small timers, let's look at where the real money is going-- to the trillionaires.Who are the trillionaires? They're the people who spent and spent until we ended up with a 15 trillion dollar deficit. Now it's time to make them pay their fair share.

Politicians, public sector unions, crony capitalists and the rest of the rotten body politic that left us with a debt so big that it can't be repaid without selling an entire state. It's time to make the trillionaires pay.

How do we make them pay. Obama has complained that unless we raise taxes on the rich, there will be no money for Medicare. That's a fair point, so let's tax the trillionaires to recoup the costs. And let's make it a whopping progressive tax too.

Forget taxing their take home pay from their non-profits and their dues-- we know that like Buffett and half the cabinet, they just won't pay. Let's tax the taxman instead. Since the money that should have kept Social Security solvent was spent by the trillionaires, it should be taken out of their spending. Forget taxing income-- it's time to tax Federal spending.

The Tea Party Encounter at West Chester U!

Aninvitation from the Republican Club at West Chester University brought about a panel discussion there one week ago, hosted by the Political Science Club. Limited to only two people, our side consisted of Susan Love and myself. Expecting the "other side" to be composed of poly sci majors, they turned out to be two professors, one of philosophy, the other, political science, and both black.

The event was well attended, about 30 or so students, black and white, and, happily, of Tea Party folks of various groups, including several from The Coalition for Advancing Freedom, about ten total.

Susan Love and I first provided an overview of Tea Party principles and objectives: reduce the size of government, adhere to our Constitution,  eliminate the abuses of the regulatory agencies, control spending, etcetera - things you're all familiar with, I came  ready with an assortment of concrete examples of government coercion, government bungling, government intrusion into our lives, etcetera.

Once we'd made our brief remarks, the philosophy professor launched. He immediately described our Tea Party policies as having racial overtones and undertones, so to speak. And dredged up the circumstances of blacks fifty years ago, before the civil rights legislation. Fifty years ago! The poly sci fellow did much the same, though on a more subdued scale.

They also dragged in "other things" they feel the Tea Parties "should" be dealing with and, the fact that we avoid them, points to Tea Party's racial animus, overtones & undertones, defense spending, the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan, and a bunch of other issues including gay marriage, and the like. My Irish-German blood does not take the "you should" stuff very well.

In responding, I asked, "I don't know why you are injecting race into this..". And both Susan and I reminded them of our core principles and values, that those "other" things are NOT what we are about. It made no difference. They were onto the implicit racism track and nothing would stop them. I'd hoped this would not last the entire session because I wanted to give the students more specifics that support our views. Sadly, they would not let it go. And so, we devoted much of the session to fending off these mindless remarks.

Churchill observed nearly a century ago: "A fanatic is a person who can't change his mind, and won't change the subject".  That describes what Susan and I were dealing with.

One trait I found especially annoying was that both profs would dismiss my various views by beginning with, "I respect you as a person, Lou, but (since you don't grasp that your Tea Party positions are racist, you're a fool)".

I've worked in corporations large and small, as well as running my own business, and if any manager, including the CEO,  talked to people in that "I respect you but..." fashion, he'd be tagged as a pompous, condescending ass and become the butt of jokes. I guess college is different.

There were good questions from the audience, though some also pushed us to address things far outside our mission, i.e., the  prison population, the drug wars.

The Tea Party and CAF members present rendered invaluable service to the discussion. They spoke up, had info and facts at their fingertips, and challenged the profs about the over-the-top comments. One of our people, apparently Chinese, nailed the one prof over an egregious factual error. If anyone can provide her name and email, I wish to thank her, as I thank all those who attended and who were not shy about jumping into the discussion. You were all superb! it was immensely gratifying when Susan and I saw how many of you were there and how ready you were to participate.

If those profs were hoping for wild-eyed, foaming at the mouth activists and bomb-throwers, we disappointed them.  Susan is a class act, and we both maintained our aplomb throughout, as did the other members in attendance. People form impressions not only based on what we say, but especially how we handle ourselves. Our non-verbal impressions can be as powerful and more lasting than our verbal.

The downside was that, by having to tamp down the almost non-stop racist innuendoes, Susan and I were effectively "timed out" from sharing much more about our principles and goals and examples. Was that a strategy? Some believe it was. Who knows. I think it's simply the default position of the radical left to view everything through their distorted blinders, and then to smear. They're so unlike the blacks I know, have dealt with and have respect for.

Once the panel ended, our members, Susan and I mingled with the many students who remained behind, engaging them in conversations. This went on for a good half hour, and we found it most rewarding to exchange ideas and answer their questions.  Young people are open to life and nice.

I hope we'll have future opportunities for such events. That the profs had attempted to sandbag us doesn't at all deter me or Susan from doing this again. And again,

Lou Flanagan

The Oath Accountability Civil Action

Join thousands of Patriots who have already signed on to the Oath Accountability Civil Action for Constitutional Integrity.

To enforce our Constitution's limits on the central government, we believe a formal legal action is necessary. This action, if successful, would require that all members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches, first and foremost, abide by their oaths "to support and defend" our Constitution, under penalty of law, and comport with its enumerated limitations on the federal government. The current scope of federal activities provides abundant evidence that many members of those three co-equal branches have long since abandoned their oaths, and, at present, there is no recourse for prosecution to enforce compliance.

To that end, please sign on to this action, and join Patriots across the nation in this effort to establish legal standing as citizens, particularly those in our Armed Services who defend their oaths with blood and life. If we are unsuccessful in our effort to seek remedy for the lack of any proscription against, and penalty for breach of oath, it is because the judiciary refuses any such accountability regarding the wanton violation of our Constitution. Such rejection would in effect render Americans once again condemned to the abuse previously characterized in American history as "Taxation Without Representation."

Our goal is 500,000 signatures, which is minimally necessary because if the federal judiciary refuses to hear this action, then we will take it to the national legislature for codification into federal law. A large support base will be necessary if we are forced to exercise that alternative.

The Foundation

"If, from the more wretched parts of the old world, we look at those which are in an advanced stage of improvement, we still find the greedy hand of government thrusting itself into every corner and crevice of industry, and grasping the spoil of the multitude. Invention is continually exercised, to furnish new pretenses for revenues and taxation. It watches prosperity as its prey and permits none to escape without tribute." --Thomas Paine

Editorial Exegesis

Warren Buffett: Just a regular guy who wants to pay more taxes

"Washington has repeated nearly every economic policy mistake of the 1930s in recent years, so why not repeat one of the bigger blunders of the 1960s too? We refer to President Obama's proposal [Monday] for a new 'Buffett Rule' to raise taxes on Americans earning more than $1 million a year. ... There's one small problem: The entire Buffett Rule premise is false.... In 2008, the last year for which such data are available, the IRS reports that those who made more than $1 million in adjusted gross income paid an average income tax rate of 23.3%. That's slightly lower than the 24.1% rate paid by those making between $500,000 and $1 million, probably because the richest are like Mr. Buffett and earn more from capital gains and dividends. ... [N]early all millionaires still paid a rate that is more than twice the 8.9% average rate paid by those earning between $50,000 and $100,000, and more than three times the 7.2% average rate paid by those earning less than $50,000. ... [T]he real point of Mr. Obama's Buffett Rule and his latest deficit proposal isn't tax justice or good tax policy. It is all about re-election politics. Down in the polls and facing a sullen liberal base, Mr. Obama wants to rally the left behind him, and nothing fires them up like the pretense that government is sticking it to the rich. Mr. Obama is picking a tax fight that he apparently believes will carry him to re-election next year." --The Wall Street Journal

Would you like to pay more taxes?

Essential Liberty

"As the Founders warned, there is an ineluctable conflict between Liberty and equality. You cannot make men equal without taking away their Freedom. The Founders devised a Constitution designed to thwart what they called 'wicked schemes' to take wealth from one segment of the nation and distribute it to another. The reason prosperity took hold in America is because of inequality. The great American businesses that have so enriched us all came about because of great concentrations of private wealth, not though government-engineered equality. All of us live richer lives precisely because of the unequal distribution of wealth. Inequality, for lack of a better word, is good. Inequality makes the world go around." --columnist Jon N. Hall

Upright

"As predictable and repetitive as Obama's economic speeches are, his capacity for audacity shows ever increasing signs of creativity. ... Did you hear the anger in his voice? Did you hear him again blame Bush's 'two wars' and 'tax cuts for the wealthy' for the economic and debt problems into which he has injected steroids? ... Almost three years into his term, did you hear him accept any ownership of his policies? Did he apologize for nearly doubling the national debt? For pushing (and preserving) unemployment to stratospheric levels? For creating so much business fear and uncertainty that he's given the stock market a multiple personality disorder? No, no, no and no. Obama is the guy who sucker punches you, kicks you when you fall down, stomps on your head, yells at you, and then summons a crowd of people and publicly castigates you for picking on him." --columnist David Limbaugh

"It is incredibly irresponsible for these super-millionaires to be calling for more taxes, because no matter how willing they are to pay more taxes themselves, the burden will likely fall on many people making a lot less money than they do. For one thing, if the tax discourages earning from higher income people or reduce their wealth it could hinder job creation, hence hurting non millionaire Americans." --Veronique de Rugy of the Cato Institute

"[Obama] went to Massachusetts to campaign against Scott Brown; Brown is now a senator. He went to New Jersey to campaign against Chris Christie, who's now governor. He went to Virginia to campaign against Bob McDonnell, who's now governor. He campaigned for the health-care plan extensively, it became less popular. He campaigned in 2010 for the Democrats, they were shellacked. He began, in a sense, his presidency flying to Copenhagen to get Chicago the Olympics; Chicago was the first city eliminated. There is no evidence that the man has the rhetorical powers that he is relying on." --columnist George Will

And if they're pledged to keep that kind of unfairness in place, they should remember, the last time I checked the only pledge that really matters is the pledge we take to uphold the Constitution." --Barack Obama, who has done everything to undermine the Constitution

He doth protest too much: "This is not class warfare -- it's math. The money has to come from some place. If we're not willing to ask those who've done extraordinarily well to help America close the deficit ... the math says everybody else has to do a whole lot more, we've got to put the entire burden on the middle class and the poor." --Barack Obama, repeating his line about math vs. taxpayers

He also knew that public servants weren't elected to do what is easy; they weren't elected to do what was politically advantageous. It's our responsibility to put country before party.

What You're Not Hearing About the New Jobs Bill: It Overrides State's Rights

  • Posted on September 20, 2011

With the introduction of The American Jobs Act, Americans may soon witness a rerun of the Obama healthcare struggle. Much like its predecessor, president Obama's newest bill contains certain provisions that would appear to benefit those who wrote the bill more than those for whom the bill was supposedly written.

For instance, buried deep, deep on page 133 of the bill, it states:

SEPTEMBER 21, 2011    New Supreme Court Term Begins in October; Important Cases such as Obamacare Likely to Be Decided

The Supreme Court is poised to begin its new term in early October, and many consequential cases are waiting in the wings-not the least of which are several challenges to the President's new health law, often referred to as Obamacare.

When acting in its proper, limited, constitutionalist role, the Supreme Court can do much to preserve the Constitution according to the Founders' understanding. However, when it exceeds this role, the Supreme Court can do much harm, discarding the written Constitution in favor of the whims of five justices.

Will the Court be guided in the cases this term by an originalist approach to interpreting the Constitution, or will it discard the Founders' intentions in favor of an "evolving" or "progressive" approach to justice? What cases will the Court hear?

To help answer these and other questions, The Heritage Foundation will host "Supreme Court Preview: 2011 Term" on September 28, featuring legal luminaries Paul Clement and Kannon Shanmugam in a preview of blockbuster cases of the Court's next term. This event continues our standing-room-only Preserve the Constitution Series, recently aired on C-SPAN.

There are plenty of blockbusters to preview. When the Eleventh Circuit Court struck down the individual mandate in Obamacare last month, it was a victory for 26 states-and the man who argued on their behalf, Paul Clement. It also created a split among the federal circuit courts, making it almost certain the Supreme Court will hear the case.

Obamacare isn't the only case that will affect Americans' rights and liberties. How will the Justices respond to the latest racial preference cases, including Fisher v. University of Texas-will they limit how a university may consider an applicant's ethnicity for admissions, or kick the can down the road for another 25 years? Will the High Court uphold the controversial Arizona immigration law, which the Justice Department argues interferes with its choice not to enforce existing federal immigration laws? Will the California marriage case or the Defense Of Marriage Act cases reach the High Court?

Aside from speculation about which cases the court may hear, our panelists will provide their insights on the cases the Court has already scheduled for this term. Can the police use GPS tracking devices without warrants to monitor movements on public streets? Does the "ministerial exception" from federal employment discrimination statutes enjoyed by religious organizations apply to teachers at religious elementary schools in addition to religious leaders? May local authorities conduct suspicionless strip searches on every person admitted to jail?

Learn how the Court will approach these questions and more as we continue our Preserve the Constitution Series.

A Victory on the Road to Repealing Obamacare

Last week, Judge Conner of Pennsylvania rejected the arguments of President Obama's Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
concerning the individual mandate in Obamacare. HHS was challenged by a couple from the small town of Newberry, PA
- self-employed citizens who desired to pay for health care out-of-pocket rather than purchase insurance.

 FAIR Action Alert

HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE VOTES AGAINST STATE ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITY;

Mandatory E-Verify Bill Passes

Wednesday afternoon, the House Judiciary Committee disappointingly voted to preempt the authority of state and local governments to enforce immigration laws during the mark-up of Chairman Lamar Smith's mandatory E-Verify bill (H.R. 2885). The mark-up, which began last Thursday, resulted in the ultimate passage of Smith's bill out of the Committee in a 22-13 vote.

While FAIR has always supported mandatory E-Verify, we also urged members of the Judiciary Committee to strip and/or amend language in H.R. 2885 that would prevent state and local governments from enforcing immigration laws when the federal government refuses to do so. As introduced, Section 6 of the bill (entitled "Preemption") would strip away the authority of state and local governments to go after employers that hire illegal aliens.

In Committee Wednesday afternoon, the amendment to strike Section 6 (Am. #3) was offered by Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA) in what appeared to be an effort by Democrats to undermine the Chamber of Commerce's support for the bill. The Chamber of Commerce has lobbied hard for the inclusion of language that would bar state and local governments from enforcing immigration laws against employers. However, in a disappointing 16-18 vote, the Committee voted against the Berman Amendment. Democrats largely voted FOR the amendment while most Republicans voted AGAINST the amendment.

Check FAIR's website for the official vote tallies on the Berman amendment and final passage as soon they become available.

2012 Update

  • USA Today reports that Americans are down on the economy and increasingly down on Obama. According to the article, 80% of Americans believe the economy is currently in a recession. Moreover, 60% believe that conditions will be either no better than they are now or worse in a year's time.

What does this mean for President Obama? According to USA Today, "For the first time since he took office, a majority of Americans -- including six in 10 independents -- say he deserves a great deal or moderate amount of blame for the nation's economic woes."
  • A new Marist poll confirms Obama's troubles -- just 36% of voters say they will definitely vote for him. The poll also finds former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin trailing Obama by just five points!
  • In the latest Rasmussen primary poll, Texas Governor Rick Perry leads Mitt Romney 28%-to-24%. (A month ago, Perry had an 11-point lead over Romney.) No other candidate receives double-digit support, while 11% of likely GOP primary voters remain undecided. Speaking of Perry, his campaign unveiled a hard-hitting web video blasting Obama on the economy and turning his trademark "O" logo into a zero -- as in zero jobs!

Obama's Jobs Plan Can't Work

As President Obama has traveled around the country stumping for his latest stimulus spending bill, which he has the audacity to call a "jobs plan," he has challenged folks to read it. As more and more folks read the plan, they are finding it is full of contradictions that will likely doom it to failure, much like his previous stimulus bill. Here's just one issue to consider.

In order to help pay for this stimulus spending, Obama wants to tax the interest earned on municipal bonds. Municipal bonds are issued by states and localities to help fund various projects like roads and education. For decades the interest earned on these bonds hasn't been taxed in order to encourage investors and to offer the lowest possible interest rate so that cities and states could keep their costs down.

A lot of investors like municipal bonds because they are generally safe investments. They are willing to accept a lower return (interest rate) because they are tax free. It's a win-win for investors and the cities and states.

But now when many cities and states are struggling, Obama is proposing to take that tax advantage away from them. Doing so would drive up interest rates and increase the cost of borrowing.

So on the one hand Obama is proposing to send states more federal aid to keep teachers, firefighters and policemen on the job. But on the other hand he is proposing to pay for it in a way that increases costs for the states.

This makes absolutely no sense -- UNLESS you happen to be a left-wing socialist who believes that Big Government knows best and is the fount from which all blessings must flow!

Democrat Hypocrisy

New York's senior senator, Democrat Charles Schumer, is setting new standards for hypocrisy. Schumer is one of the Senate's most liberal members and has never met a tax increase he didn't like -- until now.

Sen. Schumer told a local CBS station, "$250,000 makes you really rich in Mississippi but it doesn't make you rich at all in New York and there ought to be some kind of scale based on the cost of living on how much you pay." Unbelievably, Schumer says it's okay to raise taxes on "millionaires and billionaires" -- just not his "millionaires and billionaires."

Dr. Dean Says: "Dump 'Em!"

During the battle to pass ObamaCare, the president and his liberal allies repeatedly reassured the American people that under their plan anyone could keep his or her current health insurance coverage if they liked it. Conservatives warned that the exact opposite was true because the legislation provides perverse incentives for businesses to drop healthcare coverage, which would force more and more Americans to be dependent on big government. AT&T estimated that it could save nearly $2 billion a year by shifting its health insurance obligations to ObamaCare.

Earlier this year, a study by McKinsey Quarterly confirmed common sense -- businesses would in fact drop coverage once ObamaCare goes into full effect. The study concluded that it "will be economically rational not only for many [businesses to drop coverage] but also for their lower-income employees, given the law's incentives." Democrats blasted the study because it proved they were wrong -- if not lying -- about ObamaCare from the beginning.

But not former Democrat National Committee Chairman Howard Dean. A proponent of socialized medicine, Dean embraced the McKinsey report this week, saying it would be a good thing for businesses to dump their employees into ObamaCare. You can watch his remarks here. And if Dean gets his wish, ObamaCare's costs will explode by the trillions. Just one more reason why we must defeat Obama and take back the Senate in 2014!

Issa Investigates

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has summoned the top officers of Solyndra to Capitol Hill for hearings this week. As you may recall, Solyndra is a solar panel company, backed by big Obama fundraiers, that recently declared bankruptcy and was raided by the FBI.

Issa wants to find out what happened to the taxpayers' $500 million that Solyndra got from the stimulus bill, and why the stimulus loan was restructured so that private investors would get paid back before the taxpayers. According to various reports, however, Solyndra's top executives will invoke their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination and refuse to answer any questions.

But Issa is not stopping there. He is now calling for a special prosecutor to look into the "Fast and Furious" gun-running scandal, and he is also turning up the heat on LightSquared, another simmering Obama scandal.

In the case of LightSquared, at least two senior government officials, including a four-star general, have accused the White House of pressuring them to alter congressional testimony to the benefit of LightSquared, another company backed by a major Democrat donor.

Both instances are clear examples of the Obama Administration's cronyism. With Solyndra, Obama gambled a half billion dollars of your money on his "green" ideology and lost it all. With LightSquared, it appears as though the administration put the interests of a political donor ahead of national security. November 2012 can't come fast enough!

Ron Paul yuks it up

Posted: 21 Sep 2011 02:27 PM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

Last month in "Cruel thoughts on a weak field," I wrote of Ron Paul: "Can we trade this guy to the Democrats for a player to be named later? He would make a great consultant to Dennis Kucinich on foreign policy." Paul appears to be thinking along the same lines.

Today the Hill reports that Paul appeared at a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor. Paul said at the breakfast that he would consider putting Kucinich in his Cabinet if he were to win the presidency in 2012. (Okay, that's a big if.) Paul joked that if he brought the Ohio congressman aboard in his administration, he might have to create a "Department of Peace." (Okay, that's not such a big if.)

"You've got to give credit to people who think," Paul said.

Paul spokesmen Jesse Benton later backtracked, asserting that the Cabinet remark was a joke. We all know that Paul is a man of many yuks, like Kucinich himself. Paul appears to not to have been joking, however, when he recognized Kucinich as a deep thinker.

This new campaign video by Rick Perry is very, very good. It sets, I think, a new technical and aesthetic standard that other campaigns (most of all President Obama's) will have to try to match:

UPDATE: I thought the video looked familiar-it turns out that, while Tim Pawlenty has endorsed Mitt Romney, his videographer, Lucas Baiano, has gone to work for Perry. The Perry video seems edgier to me than anything Pawlenty put out, however.

Also, Ann Althouse is running a poll on the Perry ad, if you want to express your opinion there.

Poppering the Bubble

Karl Popper, whom Soros should read more carefully

A reader out there in Power Line land (I forget who right now-was it you RH?) e-mailed after a recent post of mine to recommend Richard Cockett's book Thinking the Unthinkable, which sounds like another book about nuclear weapons during the Cold War (easy to do, since the great Herman Kahn did in fact have a book by this same title about that subject), but in fact is about the rise of classical liberal thought and organizations (Hayek, Friedman, the Mont Pelerin Society, the IEA, etc) in the post-war era in Britain, culminating in Margaret Thatcher's reformist government in the 1980s.

So I got the book, and though I'm not very far in yet, there's one early passage about Karl Popper that strikes me as worth passing along to Power Line world:

[Popper] described his ideological journey in his autobiography, Unended Quest.  He remained a Socialist-a collectivist-for "several years . . . and if there could be such a thing as socialism combined with individual liberty, I would be a socialist still.  For nothing could be better than living in a modest, simple, and free life in an egalitarian society.  It took some time before I recognized this as no more than a beautiful dream; that freedom is more important than equality; that the attempt to realize equality endangers freedom; and that, if freedom is lost, there will not be much equality among the unfree."

I wonder whether Obama . . . oh, never mind.

(Yes, Popper is supposedly George Soros's muse, but it's clear if you look closely that Soros's grasp of Popper is very weak.  Maybe I'll do a follow up post on this some time.  And yes [2], there are problems with Popper.  I know that, too.)

Another perfect story

A long-time reader writes:

Last week, Steve Hayward thought he had found "The Perfect Story" in the attorney at the New York State Attorney General's office who moonlighted as a dominatrix. It's difficult to improve on perfection, but I think I can.

Consider the tale, told by Ron Suskind, of the alleged mistreatment of top female advisers in the Obama administration. It seems that the liberal culture of victimization and entitlement, and perhaps a pinch of hypocrisy, has come home to roost . . . in the West Wing of a Democratic White House. And the story is all the more perfect given the central role of the lamentable Anita Dunn.

It all reminds me of SDS, circa 1969. Except that some of those guys really were blatant sexists, not just standard-issue male power seekers with sharp elbows.

Oh Canada!

(Steven Hayward)

How can it be that after all these years of making fun of Canada for all of the right reasons (its anti-Americanism, its social democratic welfare state, its ludicrous Steyn-hunting "human rights" commissions, its export of Michael J. Fox and William Shatner, etc.), it can now be held up as a superior model to Obama's America?  Everyone knows the joke about the world's most boring headline competition being won by "Worthwhile Canadian Initiative," or Charles Krauthammer's famous dismissal of peacekeeping missions by U.S. armed forces back in the 1990s under Clinton (who viewed our military as an adjunct social work brigade)-"Peacekeeping isn't a job for America; it is a job for Canada."  Yes, entirely unfair in the post-9/11 decade, as Canadians, though few in number, have actually fought alongside us overseas, instead of having a tiny non-combat "presence" in theater.

Today Canada has a superior tax regime to that of the United States, and a much sounder fiscal situation.  They are actually developing their energy resources, which they are happy to sell to us rather than the Chinese, just as soon as we approve the Keystone pipeline.  And lately Canada has upset Saudi Arabia with an ad campaign about "ethical oil," pointing out the unsavory nature of Middle Eastern regimes that oppress women.  Seems the Saudis are not too happy about this, and are threatening lawsuits.  Thought experiment: imagine how CAIR and Keith Ellison would react if such ads aired in the U.S.

Way back in 2002, Jonah Goldberg wrote "Bomb Canada" in National Review (apparently unavailable online).  Now it looks like we may want to have it as our backup country if Obama gets any further down the field.  I used to joke that Alberta-the Texas of Canada-ought to secede from Canada and join the United States.  Maybe we've got it backwards.

UPDATE: A couple of people object to my dissing Shatner and Fox, but say Celine Dion is okay to tee off on.  Puts me in a frame of mind to direct people to Al Yankovic's very effective "Canadian Idiot" parody:

UPDATE 2: Here's the ad that has "our friends the Saudis" so upset.

Cop killer is media's latest baby seal

Ann Coulter

For decades, liberals tried persuading Americans to abolish the death penalty, using their usual argument: hysterical sobbing.

Only when the media began lying about innocent people being executed did support for the death penalty begin to waver, falling from 80 percent to about 60 percent in a little more than a decade. (Silver lining: That's still more Americans than believe in manmade global warming.)

Fifty-nine percent of Americans now believe that an innocent man has been executed in the last five years. There is more credible evidence that space aliens have walked among us than that an innocent person has been executed in this country in the past 60 years, much less the past five years.

But unless members of the public are going to personally review trial transcripts in every death penalty case, they have no way of knowing the truth. The media certainly won't tell them.

It's nearly impossible to receive a death sentence these days - unless you do something completely crazy l

Tancredo Calls for Congress to Conduct Impeachment Probe
By Jack Minor
GreeleyGazette.com

Former Congressman Tom Tancredo has given Congress a list of 12 items that he says would call for Obama's impeachment if verified to have occurred.

Tancredo said the 2012 election is not a reason for Congress to shirk its duty. "While impeachment must never be used to override an election victory, neither should the prospects of electoral defeat be used as an argument to avoid impeachment."

By Matthew Boyle
The Daily Caller

An affiliate of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) received another $300,000 in taxpayer funding in early August, The Daily Caller has learned.

President Barack Obama's Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the $300,000 grant to the post-ACORN ally: The Affordable Housing Centers of America (AHCOA). The Obama administration awarded the money despite a 2010 law saying no taxpayer funds could be issued to ACORN "or any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, or allied organizations."

Obama's Plan: Buying Votes From Financially Jealous People
By Bob Dutko
CNSNews.com

Let's not kid ourselves. President Obama's new plan to soak the rich is not about producing jobs. It's not even about "raising revenues." It really is about redistributing wealth while at the same time feeding the jealousy of the non-rich. Here's why.

The fact is, taking even more money from millionaires makes many people feel a sense of power, justice and accomplishment - but, it doesn't increase revenues or produce jobs.

Grassfire Nation Update

The Tea Party is coming under hostile attack

from the Left. We want you to have TWO FREE

GIFTS when you stand with other citizens

against the Anti-Tea Party assault. Please

           see below.

A new video game called "Tea Party Zombies Must Die" is the latest example of a systematic effort to destroy the Tea Party.

This game portrays Tea Party citizens are radical, crazed zombies driven by their passion to cut taxes -- and the goal is to kill the Tea Party zombies!

This from the makers of the game:

DON'T GET TEA-BAGGED! The Tea Party zombies are

walking the streets of America. Grab your

weapons and bash their rotten brains to bits!

And that's just the intro...

Word of this outrageous game surfaced just as Jimmy Hoffa was working up a union crowd into a frenzy for their "war"

against the Tea Party. Hoffa concluded by saying it's time to "take these [Tea Party] SOBs out." Of course, the Obama team has remained silent, lending credence to the militant, anti-Tea Party sentiment that is building.

This latest wave of attacks against the Tea Party started during the Debt Deal debate when leftists began using phrases like "terrorists" and "hostage takers" to describe the Tea Party. Now those phrases are being translated into even more harsh attacks from video game makers and leftist leaders.

The Left's goal? Discredit the Tea Party and thus turn voters away from our ideals of liberty and limited government.

+ + Citizens Say, "Stop The Anti-Tea Party Attacks!"

If the Left is allowed to demonize the Tea Party, they will discredit the movement's "liberty and limited government"

message that is poised to re-shape the political landscape.

Grassfire Nation is launching this nationwide Petition to rally citizens to stand with the Tea Party against these hostile attacks.

The petition brings together citizens who:

--OPENLY OBJECT to such attacks against the Tea Party

--OPPOSE any politician who makes or condones such attacks;

--BOYCOT any business or organization that condones such attacks.

The front side boldly states, "I Am The Tea Party," while the reverse features the "Don't Tread On Me" flag which has become the symbol of our movement.

Let's be clear... This is a systematic effort to discredit the Tea Party and to label us as part of the radical fringe of society. This is the Left's playbook for 2012!

Take action to oppose the Left's efforts. Go here:

OBAMA MIGHT PULL OUT

By Dick Morris
09.21.2011

As bad news piles up for the Democrats, I asked a top Democratic strategist if it were possible that President Obama might "pull a Lyndon Johnson" and soberly face the cameras, telling America that he has decided that the demands of partisan politics are interfering with his efforts to right our economy and that he has decided to withdraw to devote full time to our recovery. His answer: "Yes. It's possible. If things continue as they are and have not turned around by January, it is certainly possible."

Just looking at Michelle Obama's unsmiling face during her husband's recent speech to Congress triggered an insight: These folks aren't having fun anymore.

Obama, whose insistence on passing a healthcare law that the courts will probably throw out cost his party the House, will now cost his party the Senate too. Indeed, it is even possible that the Republicans win 60 seats.

Eric Holder Promotes UN Redistribution of Wealth to "Fight Terrorism"
By Ben Johnson, The White House Watch

In the film The Assassination of Richard Nixon, Sean Penn's boss advises him that Nixon was the greatest salesman of all time, because in two successive elections he hoodwinked the American people with the same promise: that he would end the war in Vietnam. [1] Eric Holder must have been Penn's understudy.

The Huffington Post reports that the attorney general and supreme representative of his people told the UN Secretary-General's Symposium on International Counter-Terrorism Conference "Tuesday that the Obama administration will do its utmost to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay before next year's presidential elections." Bloggers on the Left and the Right have noted Holder's hypocrisy. None has yet reported that this recycled 2008 campaign promise came as part of a speech that invited the UN to create an "international legal and policy framework" for waging the War on Terror in "civilian courts," and which pledged to redistribute taxpayer dollars to fight such "root causes" of terrorism as global income "inequality." Eric Holder vowed to bring terrorists to the mainland, diminishing U.S. wealth to the Third World, and UN norms to the halls of power....

While GOP Dawdles Over Amnesty, Obama Transforms America
By Joe Guzzardi, FloydReports.com

Immediately after Congress returned from its August vacation, U.S. Representative Steve King, R-IA, call for oversight hearings to investigate President Obama's administrative amnesty. Obama's unconstitutional measure, announced by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on August 19, will cancel at least 300,000 aliens' deportation orders.

Two weeks later, public outrage escalated when Obama's Uncle Onyango apparently became one of the new policy's first beneficiaries. Onyango, arrested for drunken driving, had an outstanding deportation order against him issued nearly 20 years ago. During the intervening years, he had been working as a liquor store clerk-a job, by the way, Americans would do. King wants Onyango to testify.

Yet despite King's repeated calls for a hearing, so far nothing is scheduled. To move forward, Darrell Issa....

Do the Macarena! American Incomes Hit 1996 Levels
By Jim Thorpe, San Francisco Chronicle

I hated that song...and I'm somewhat tickled that it is now in every reader's head. In any case, a report today shows that American incomes dropped for the third straight year, leaving the average American earning roughly what they did in 1996.

To put that in perspective, the last time American incomes were this low, the Macarena was the #1 song, gas was a little over a dollar a gallon, and no one had even thought to impeach a president over his sex life.

You wouldn't know it if you solely paid attention to the mainstream media, but while President Barack Obama attempts to sell the country on hundreds of billions in new stimulus spending and $1.5 trillion in new taxes, his Administration is smack in the middle of several growing scandals: the Operation Fast and Furious gun-running debacle and the crony capitalism wrongdoing involving Solyndra and LightSquared.

In the fall of 2009, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which is overseen by President Obama's Department of Justice, launched an effort to sell weapons to small-time gun buyers in the hopes of tracing them to major weapons traffickers along the southwestern border and into Mexico. Their effort, which is known as Operation Fast and Furious, failed terribly.

As Friday draws near, two contenders are neck-and-neck for the title of Nanny of the Week. A dark horse may yet emerge, what with so much Big Government on the loose. But leading the pack at present are Michigan Governor Rick Snyder (R) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

First Snyder. The self-styled "nerd" gained nanny status on Wednesday by announcing plans for a state registry of fat kids. Under his proposal, pediatricians will report the height and weight measurements of their patients to the Michigan Department of Community Health for purposes of computing a body mass index (BMI) score. The scores will be tracked in the same manner as immunization records.

Heritage Foundation economist J.D. Foster cuts through the spin about President Obama's new deficit plans, which he announced yesterday.

Writing on National Review Online, Foster notes that Obama is

proposing a $3 trillion deficit-reduction plan that includes roughly $1.5 trillion in real tax hikes and nearly $1.5 trillion in phony spending cuts like claiming credit for the phase-down in military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq and the ever-popular assault on Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse.

This is all part of a deliberate strategy by the left to expand the size and scope of the federal government, he says. This "glut the beast" strategy increases spending, creates huge deficits, and then follows with taxes to "pay for" all the irreversible new spending.

GOP
leadership faces possible
tea party
revolt in 2012

Republican Revolt graphic
Tea party activist David Lewis's plans for a primary challenge to John Boehner is a sign of a larger problem for the GOP leadership. Some of the new reps are not holding Obama's feet to the fire on spending. They talked a good game going into the 2010 midterms but failed to deliver after winning control.
The Coordinator of Tea Party Patriots said "We were told that if we passed the debt ceiling deal we wouldn't be downgraded, but we were." He warns that both Republicans and Democrats could face an electoral bloodbath in the 2012 primaries if they do not do more to hold the line on taxes and spending.
Meckler criticized House Majority Leader Eric Cantor for throwing away bargaining chips with the White House in the spring tussle over a government shutdown. Tea Party Patriots doesn't plan to run candidates in primary challenges, but his group does plan to encourage tea partiers to become heavily involved in their local primaries.
Recent history doesn't bode well for primary challengers. Only four incumbents lost their 2010 primaries, and the typical average is just three per election cycle. [Daily Caller, Sept. 20] Click here for the complete source story

The man who devised the Contract with America that ushered House Republicans into power in 1994 hopes a new version can boost his bid for the presidency.
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who has been lagging in polls and fundraising says he will outline a "very visionary" plan next week that is "10 times deeper and more comprehensive" than the 1994 Contract with America. Gingrich promises it will be "very big" and the kind of thing that Abraham Lincoln would have campaigned on.
Gingrich is a man of ideas and likes to expound on them in books and articles. He has gotten applause during recent GOP debates, especially as he bashed the news media for trying to divide the candidates.
Gingrich received 5% in the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, tied with Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain. Perry leads the GOP field with 31%. [USA Today, Sept. 20] Click here for the complete source story

Closes the Gap:
She Leads
President Obama Among
Independents

Photographs of Sarah Palin and Barak Obama
A new poll shows Obama looks increasingly vulnerable in next year's election, with a solid plurality saying they'll definitely vote against him and most potential Republican challengers gaining on him.
The biggest gain came for Palin. After trailing Obama by more than 20 percentage points in polls all year, the new national survey found Palin trailing the president by just 5 points, 49-44 percent. The key reason: She now leads Obama among independents, a sharp turnaround.
By a margin of 49 percent to 36 percent, voters said they definitely plan to vote against Obama. Independents by 53 percent to 28 percent said they definitely plan to vote against him. With that sentiment permeating the electorate a little more than a year before the general election, most Americans think Obama won't win a second term.  Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
  • provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

  • Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
  • If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
  • And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Uh-oh: Government Motors wants to track you

Several years ago Glenn broke ties with GM as a sponsor, in large part because he was worried about their interactions with government. All that technology and access at the fingertips of the federal government just didn't sit well with Glenn. At the time, they said they wouldn't be doing any sort of tracking or anything like that. That was then, this is now. OnStar is now notifying its 6 million account holders that it will keep a complete account of the speed and location of OnStar-equipped vehicles even for drivers who discontinue the monthly service. Why? Glenn has more on radio today - check it out at GlennBeck.com.

Obama hearts the U.N. but not the Constitution

President Obama spoke to the U.N. recently and glowingly fawned over the wonderfulness and sheer loving genius of the U.N.'s founding charter. Glenn plays the audio on radio today and then also plays a blast from the past -- Obama expressing his true feelings on the Constitution. While he calls it a 'remarkable document' he goes on to complain about how it's riddled with 'deep flaws' and reflects America's blind spot that 'continues today'. Wouldn't it be awesome if we had a President who actually liked the founders? Glenn tries not to blow a gasket responding on radio today. WATCH

Baffling new poll: Palin within 5 points of Obama?

A new poll out has Sarah Palin within 5 points of President Barack Obama, but the poll has Romney coming the closest to victory making it within 2 points of Obama. Glenn turns to resident poll geek Stu Burguiere to see if there's any rhyme or reason as to why Palin is suddenly jumping up the poll charts when Perry clearly has all the momentum right now. LOL: Glenn tries to see things from NY Mag's point of view and understand how Obama is more pro-Jewish than Netanyahu; hilarity ensues. WATCH this free clip from last night's show on GBTV.

Media ignores Days of Rage violence

Would you be surprised to learn that the Days of Rage protests to occupy Wall Street are not only still going on, but they've also turned violent? That's because the national media is completely ignoring the story. Imagine if a Tea Party protest erupted into clashes with police and protesters interfering with arrests? The local news in New York covered it - when will the rest of the media? Glenn has more on this development on radio today. WATCH

Did you know that Glenn's news brand, The Blaze, has an all-new print magazine?

That's right. The Blaze magazine is the brand new publication from the team at TheBlaze.com (it recently replaced Glenn's Fusion magazine). It's where you'll get reporting, insight and analysis you won't find in the mainstream media. We seek and report the Truth. And that makes us unique and powerful. Click HERE to subscribe.

Who knew: Tony Bennett is nuts

Glenn plays a clip of Howard Stern's interview with Tony Bennett and this is must hear audio -- Bennett goes off the deep end talking about solutions for the violence and terrorism in the Middle East. Stern calls Bennett out when the conversation delves into the melting of all the weapons on the globe and that 9/11 was America's fault. Check out the clip and see Glenn reminisce about his Bennett interview decades ago that went incredibly sour. WATCH
