Marine Sgt. Receives Medal of Honor for Saving 36 Lives in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) - President Barack Obama on Thursday bestowed the nation's highest military honor on Dakota Meyer, a young and humble Marine who defied orders and barreled straight into a ferocious "killing zone" in Afghanistan to save 36 lives at extraordinary risk to himself.

"You did your duty, above and beyond," Obama told Meyer after reciting his dramatic story. Though the corporal and a fellow Marine were going against orders - commanders considered their effort too dangerous - they were doing what they thought was right, Obama said.

The president placed the Medal of Honor ribbon around Meyer's neck, patted his back and shook his hand as the audience in the White House East Room applauded.

At age 21, Meyer charged through heavy insurgent gunfire on five death-defying trips in an armored Humvee to save 13 Marines and Army soldiers and an additional 23 Afghan troops pinned down by withering enemy fire.

 They said we had to pass it to know what's in it, but over a year later, people STILL don't fully understand how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) - aka "ObamaCare" - will affect them and their health.

 That's why a coalition of citizens and health care professionals will present "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About ObamaCare But Didn't Know Who to Ask" on the campus of DeSales University in Center Valley, PA from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 - which, ironically, happens to be Constitution Day.  DeSalesUniversity is located in the Lehigh Valley of PA, within easy driving distance of the major population centers of central, northeast, and southeast PA.

Policy professionals, physicians, business and legislative leaders, and representatives from groups most affected by the PPACA will share their insights and expertise through presentations, breakout sessions, exhibits, and panel discussions.

They'll explain how ObamaCare affects personal liberty and the Constitution, families and seniors, taxpayers, Medicare and the deficit, insurance premiums and the uninsured, businesses, employees and the economy, doctors, patients, and access to care, American innovation in medicine, and more. 

Also included will be detailed updates on state and national efforts to defund, repeal, replace, and nullify ObamaCare from some of the legislative leaders spearheading those efforts.

Participants will leave the three hour event far more informed about what's in the PPACA than most of the legislators who voted for it, and will be energized to get involved in the fight to save America's health care.  Participants, both live and online, will be empowered by their new understanding of how the PPACA will not accomplish any of the things its name implies, and will be able to effectively communicate that new understanding to others, providing important education about why this ill-conceived piece of legislation needs to be defeated by any means possible.

Already, according to Rasmussen's most recent poll, 54% of Americans want to see ObamaCare repealed, while only 39% oppose repeal - but the people who passed it clearly have not heard the voices of the American people yet.  The more Americans know about the PPACA, the more they dislike it, and this conference will help to provide the tools citizen advocates and health care professionals need to effectively participate in the process to defund, repeal, and replace ObamaCare.

The event will be free to the public on site in a venue which will seat 500, and a live streaming video, and a professionally produced program will promote information about our coalition's sponsoring groups, as well as providing important information about the PPACA.

1. Those Divisive Social Issues

I think it is painfully obvious to everyone who is paying attention to anything that is happening in America that the economy will be the deciding factor in the 2012 elections, absent a major terrorist attack or other unforeseeable game-changing event. I don't know of anyone who thinks at this stage of the game that 2012 ought to be primarily a referendum on abortion. That having been said, the claim has been made by some who purport to represent the TEA Party movement that social issues are divisive and should be avoided completely in favor of massive slashing of government spending. These individuals typically push the argument that if the GOP would just adopt wholesale Randianism, the GOP would be primed for electoral success. CNN just released a new poll (.pdf warning) which shows that these beliefs are not only untrue with respect to the American population at large, but also untrue of the TEA Party rank and file.

In the first place, CNN asked of all adults whether they favored eliminating the Department of Education, a stump speech staple of so-called TEA Party candidates and leaders. The American public overwhelmingly rejects this idea by a whopping 24-74 margin. That is not to say that eliminating the Department of Education wouldn't be a good idea; the point is that it's a surefire electoral loser in all 50 states. If we are going to talk about an issue that should be backbenched for the sake of electoral expediency, the "eliminate the Department of Education" rhetoric would be a good place to start.

By way of contrast, CNN's poll reveals that the American public is broadly supportive of vastly more restrictions on abortion than are currently in place today. Only 37% of respondents indicated that abortion should be either "legal in all circumstances" or "legal in most circumstances." 62% of respondents indicated that abortion should be either "legal in a few circumstances" or "illegal in all circumstances." Given that abortion is effectively "legal in all circumstances" in America today (a position supported by only 25% of respondents), the idea that imposing additional restrictions on abortion would doom the GOP is completely unsupported by anything other than the fatuous projections of people who want to appear smart and enlightened before the media.

2. The Crusade to Cave

I feel like a broken record, but it is just very hard to give some people the benefit of the doubt. It is one thing after another, day after day. House Republican Leaders are on a crusade to cave with the President.

Never mind that in the opinion of nearly every main stream political analyst the President is on the ropes. My inbox is flooded with news articles about his declining popularity in blue states and the aftermath of this week's GOP special election victories. But House Republicans modus operandi is still to avoid the fight.

This week, it was their insistence on a continuing resolution (CR) at levels far above the Paul Ryan-House passed budget in order to align with the bad debt deal they passed earlier in the year (because they were unwilling to fight). Then it was their shadiness in passing a six-month highway extension at levels far above the same Paul Ryan-House passed budget without a roll-call vote. They're only now beginning to criticize the President's new stimulus plan such that the President's only glimmer of hope is that the public still doesn't know how bad or unworkable it is. Why? Because Republicans are afraid of being the party of no. I thought we put that meme to bed last year.

And now we find that tucked into the recently unveiled CR is the provision to bail out the Postal Service, which I wrote about yesterday. Who knows what else is in there.

3. The White House's $535 Million Photo Op

As the Solyndra scandal continues to unfold, Americans are clamoring for the President to take responsibility. With more suspicious details coming to light, multiple entities have launched investigations-the FBI, the Inspector General of the Energy Department, the Inspector General of the Treasury Department, and the House Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee. From what we've seen so far, the verdict seems pretty clear: the White House recklessly propped up Solyndra to please campaign backers and stage a political photo op.

Now that the White House has finally released some 900 pages of emails, it's obvious the White House was playing favorites. As the New York Times reported, one White House official emailed Solyndra to say "we're cheering for you." Other emails include messages from Solyndra officials that misrepresented the state of the company's affairs, saying things like "things are going well" and touting themselves as "a true success story."

4. Nobodies Don't Get Booed

One of my favorite groups in Washington is Heritage Action for America. A major indicator of their success is that the Washington GOP Establishment planted a story in Roll Call about their lack of influence.

The article was clearly planted by House Republican leadership staffers, the same staffers who planted a story about me in the Washington Post at the end of July about how I have no influence and nobody listens to me. Two weeks after these House leadership aides declared, anonymously, that I had no influence I introduced Rick Perry at the RedState Gathering where he declared his candidacy for President.

No influence. It is the same with Heritage Action for America. You know a conservative wields influence when House leadership staffers push out stories about the conservatives' lack of influence, but are too chicken to go on record about it. Nobodies don't get booed.

Kicking off the attack was Congressman Geoff Davis of Kentucky (HAFA Score: 63%) telling Ginni Thomas at the Daily Caller that "Heritage Action is a self-interested fundraising organization led by a former Giuliani staffer who is not taking counsel from real conservatives ... It is a worthless organization to the conservative movement. I'll be the first to say that." Congressman Davis, who opposed social security reform, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform, and offshore drilling while supporting farm subsidies, cash for clunkers, green energy subsidies, the AFL-CIO, and NEA spending, was the only person willing to go on record attacking HAFA.

5. Incontrovertible - I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means

In the latest blow to "consensus", Dr. Ivar Giaever, a Nobel Laureate, has resigned from the American Physical Society over the group's position on global warming. His resignation letter minces no words.

6. President Obama and the EPA's War on Jobs

For some time now, I and others have been documenting the relentless assault on economic growth by the EPA under President Barack Obama. I feel like a broken record at times trying to beat this drum and get people to realize that while Obama doesn't keep all of his campaign promises, destroying the coal industry is one that he has done everything he can to stay true to.

For anyone that paid attention during the 2008 presidential cycle, Obama made it clear that it was his intention to bankrupt the coal industry through regulation and legislation. Think it's hyperbole? Listen to it from the horse's mouth.

Obama's dreams of green jobs have run into some snags lately. The bankruptcy of solar panel company Solyndra, which received half a billion dollars in loan guarantees, is not good for the goal of greenifying our lives. Objectively speaking, there is one simple reason that companies like Solyndra just couldn't make ends meet: the prices that they need to charge for their products are simply too high to create true market demand.

However, market demand can also be altered by a lack of choice. For instance, if there was a cheaper form of liquid that could fuel my car, I'd most certainly gravitate towards it as opposed to the $3.50 per gallon price I'm currently paying for gasoline.

Unfortunately for me, no alternative liquid exists that is as cost effective as plain old gasoline, and unfortunately for the green industry, gasoline exists.

Doubling Down on the Payroll Tax Holiday Still Won't Create Jobs

The August jobs report showing exactly zero net job creation and an unemployment rate hovering above 9 percent have reinforced the imperative among Washington policymakers to focus on job creation policies in the waning months of 2011. The focus is certainly right, but most of the policies under consideration would produce the same results as President Obama's jobs policies to date: no additional employment. No policies under consideration today offer a greater assurance of failure than the proposal to extend the existing payroll tax holiday-or to double down by extending that holiday to the so-called employer's share of the tax.

In seeking to impose a Palestinian state on Israel, the Obama Administration, European Union, and western media have displayed a cynical contempt for history that is astounding in its breadth and scope. Pressure is brought to bear solely on Israel, who is expected to sacrifice sovereignty and security in the name of an ideal that is premised on a repudiation of the Jews' right to self-determination in their ancient homeland.

The Palestinians are expected to concede nothing - not even their oft-stated goal of the phased destruction of Israel. Nothing illustrates the hypocrisy better than a comparison of their demand that Israel accept an Arab "right of return" with their ambition for a state that would be ethnically cleansed of all Jews. No Junk in the Trunk: UN Palestinian State Vote Bites Jewish Liberals in the Ass

To those who are paying attention, a scheduled United Nations vote on Palestinian statehood is just days away (though it's possible that Obamaniks-rather than suffer embarrassment and American defeat-may do a deal sacrificing more of Israel and getting huge concessions in order to table it). But I don't blame the anti-American, anti-Israel U.N. I don't even blame the world's nations, composed mostly of Third World banana republics, 22 artificially drawn nations carved out of Greater Barbaria a/k/a the Arab Muslim world, and assorted other Jew-haters and America-despisers. I expect these things from these people. Boys will be boys. And barbaric savages will be barbaric savages.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen: We need to stop Palestinian 'dangerous scheme'

Ros-Lehtinen, who is Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is one of the loudest voices in Congress opposing the Palestinian UN bid. The bill, which she introduced earlier this month, also aims at cutting funding to the UN bodies that will upgrade the status of the Palestinian leadership.

The initiative was criticized by Obama Administration officials and Ros-Lehtinen's democratic colleagues in Congress, but the Congresswoman made it clear on Tuesday that she has no intentions of backpedalling on the issue.

State Department officials have said bill puts U.S ability to pursue its foreign policy goals in danger, but Ros-Lehtinen disagrees, saying that it will restore 'respect' to the UN.

"I don't think this bill is dangerous," Ros-Lehtinen told Haaretz. "I think it will build on diplomatic efforts because it will bring the UN...

Ayalon points out that Arab rejectionism thwarts the peace process

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon starred in a new public diplomacy video explaining  the main reason for the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Authority is not Israel's presence in Judea and Samaria, but successive Arab leaders' resistance to Jewish sovereignty.

The Oath Accountability Civil Action

A Legal Remedy for Restoration of Constitutional Integrity

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. ... Done ... the seventeenth day of September, in the year of our LORD one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven." --George Washington and the Signers

On the eve of Constitution Day, and the 15th anniversary of The Patriot Post, we are preparing to launch a legal battle in support of our mission to reinstate Rule of Law as enshrined in our Constitution. This legal action, unlike others before it, regards Breach of Oath -- breach of the contract established by our Constitution between the elected and appointed members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government, and We the People. It seeks remedy for the lack of any proscription against, and penalty for such breach.

A Civil Action to Restore Constitutional Integrity

To enforce our Constitution's limits on the central government, we believe a formal legal action is necessary. This action, if successful, would require that all members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches, first and foremost, abide by their oaths "to support and defend" our Constitution, under penalty of law, and comport with its enumerated limitations on the federal government. The current scope of federal activities provides abundant evidence that many members of those three co-equal branches have long since abandoned their oaths, and, at present, there is no recourse for prosecution to enforce compliance.

This civil action is predicated on three questions concerning Rule of Law as enshrined in our Constitution:

First, are elected and appointed members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches of the central government required, under penalty of law, to abide by their oaths "to support and defend" our Constitution, as specified in its original language in Article II, Section 1 and Article VI, clause 3, as ratified?

Second, in respect to their oaths, do all members comport with our Constitution's prescribed method for amendment as specified in Article V, rather than disregard that constitutional prescription in favor of legislative actions based upon judicial diktats redefining those limits in accordance with the errant so-called "living Constitution"?

And, third, if the answers to questions 1 and 2 are "no," then does breach of oath, which is not currently subject to legal redress, constitute a breach of trust with the American people -- a violation of the contract established by our Constitution between those in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches, and the American people? Consequently, does Breach of Oath impose harm and injustice upon citizens, who are subject to the government's laying and collecting of taxes, and accumulating of debt, for expenditures not expressly authorized by our Constitution?

The first step in seeking legal remedy to restore the integrity of our Constitution is to establish whether "We, the People," have legal standing to require all members of the three branches of our central government to abide by their oaths.

To that end, please register your support for this action, and join Patriots across the nation in this effort to establish legal standing as citizens, particularly those in our Armed Services who defend their oaths with blood and life. If we are unsuccessful in our effort to seek remedy for the lack of any proscription against, and penalty for breach of oath, it is because the judiciary refuses any such accountability regarding the wanton violation of our Constitution. Such rejection would, in effect, render Americans, once again, condemned to the abuse previously characterized in American history as "Taxation Without Representation."

Background

This civil action to restore the integrity of our Constitution and its enumerated limits upon the role and activities of the central government is funded by The Essential Liberty Project and promoted by The Patriot Post.

We are seeking to answer the question of whether "We, the People," have legal standing to require all members of the three Branches of our central government to abide by their oaths. We will determine the appropriate venue and ask the court to certify this action once we have reached a sufficient number of plaintiffs to impress upon the court, and supporting members of Congress, that The People demand recourse.

We believe that this complaint complies with Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and thus should be provided a federal hearing, an assertion that, if denied by the courts, we will seek on appeal. We may also opt to file in one or more state courts should the federal courts reject this action. And last but not least, if enough Americans sign this action, the legislative option becomes viable.

We will reject the notion that the power to vote constitutes fair "representation," where there is no assurance that representatives will abide by their oaths of office and, instead, use the treasury as an instrument to perpetuate their re-election by special interest constituencies, whose allegiance is secured with confiscated and redistributed wealth.

If American citizens are rightly found to have legal standing, then the second order of business will be to question congressional authority to lay and collect taxes, and to accumulate debt, for expenditures not expressly authorized by our Constitution, with the objective of defunding such expenditures.

We will seek to renew congressional requirements for enumeration of constitutional authority for each and every piece of legislation proposed by the Executive and Legislative branches.

Have you taken an oath? Post your opinion

Our United States Constitution, as written and ratified, stipulates in its preface that it is "ordained and established" by the people to "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity." To that end, it established a republic, not a popular democracy, which is to say it affirmed the primacy of Rule of Law over rule of men.

Accordingly, the first order of business for those elected to national office is that they be bound by oath to "preserve, protect and defend" the Constitution under which they were duly elected.

For those elected to the presidency, Article II, Section 1, specifies: Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Likewise, Article VI, Clause 3 specifies: "The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution..."

The key words here are "shall be bound by oath or affirmation." Bound how and by whom? And with what penalty for violation? Currently, we believe they are bound solely by their conscience, and there is no statutory mandate for abiding by their oaths.

Our Founders intended that elected officials and judges, by way of their oaths, would be constrained by Rule of Law. However, they also assumed that those elected and appointed would be, uniformly, men and women of sufficient character to honor their oaths.


Our Founders were clear about our Constitution's Rule of Law and its prescribed method for amendment as specified in Article V, but the enforcement of that prescription is predicated on being bound by oaths.

George Washington: "The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their Constitutions of Government. But the Constitution, which at any time exists, 'till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole People is sacredly obligatory upon all. ... Should, hereafter, those incited by the lust of power and prompted by the supineness or venality of their constituents, overleap the known barriers of this Constitution and violate the unalienable rights of humanity: it will only serve to show, that no compact among men (however provident in its construction and sacred in its ratification) can be pronounced everlasting and inviolable, and if I may so express myself, that no Wall of words, that no mound of parchment can be so formed as to stand against the sweeping torrent of boundless ambition on the side, aided by the sapping current of corrupted morals on the other."

John Adams: "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. ... The only foundation of a free Constitution is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People. ... [T]hey may change their Rulers, and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting Liberty. ... A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever."

Thomas Jefferson: "Our peculiar security is in the possession of a written Constitution. Let us not make it a blank paper by construction. ... To consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all Constitutional questions [is] a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. ... The Constitution has erected no such single tribunal, knowing that to whatever hands confided, with the corruptions of time and party, its members would become despots. ... The opinion which gives to the judges the right to decide what laws are Constitutional and what not, not only for themselves in their own sphere of action but for the Legislature and Executive also in their spheres, would make the Judiciary a despotic branch. ... On every question of construction carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed. ... In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution."

Alexander Hamilton: "[T]here is not a syllable in the [Constitution] which directly empowers the national courts to construe the laws according to the spirit of the Constitution, or which gives them any greater latitude in this respect than may be claimed by the courts of every State. ... The Judiciary ... has no influence over either the sword or the purse; no direction either of the strength or of the wealth of the society, and can take no active resolution whatever. It may truly be said to have neither force nor will. ... If it be asked, 'What is the most sacred duty and the greatest source of our security in a Republic?' The answer would be, an inviolable respect for the Constitution and Laws -- the first growing out of the last. ... A sacred respect for the Constitutional law is the vital principle, the sustaining energy of a free government. ... [T]he present Constitution is the standard to which we are to cling. Under its banners, bona fide must we combat our political foes -- rejecting all changes but through the channel itself provides for amendments."

James Madison: "I entirely concur in the propriety of resorting to the sense in which the Constitution was accepted and ratified by the nation. In that sense alone it is the legitimate Constitution. And if that is not the guide in expounding it, there may be no security for a consistent and stable, more than for a faithful exercise of its powers. ... If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particular exceptions."

Those members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches, who have abandoned their oaths, believe they are above the mandates established by our Founders, and thus, above the law.

Our constitutional rights are being violated, and that violation is sustained by unjust taxation for purposes not expressly authorized by our Constitution. Consequently, our nation is on the precipice of insolvency, and the bill is coming due. It will most certainly be repaid in the currency of tyranny unless Liberty with its inherent Rule of Law prevail.

The time has come that all American Patriots must, "with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor," as we endeavor to restore Rule of Law and our Constitution's limits on the central government.

Democrat Disconnect

President Obama is stumping in key states pushing his American Jobs Act. At every stop, he lashes out at Republicans for refusing to pass his latest tax-hiking, big spending stimulus bill.

In Ohio earlier this week, Obama asked, "What on Earth are we waiting for?" In North Carolina yesterday, Obama suggested the poor economy was equivalent to a "national emergency" and urged his audience, "If you love me, you got to help me pass this bill," and "The time for action is now."

Don't let the scenes on the evening news of Obama's supporters chanting "Pass This Bill!" fool you. Obama's attempts to pin blame on congressional Republicans are deeply disingenuous.

To begin with, no Democrat in the House of Representatives has so far stepped up to sponsor Obama's bill. And because no House Democrat is willing to carry Obama's water, Texas Republican Louie Gohmert introduced his own American Jobs Act to repeal the corporate income tax.

What Obama is giving the American people is demagoguery, not leadership. And he has played this same game with free trade agreements for months now. During a June press conference Obama said:

"Right now, Congress can advance a set of trade agreements that would allow American businesses to sell more of their goods and services to countries in Asia and South America, agreements that would support tens of thousands of American jobs, while helping those adversely affected by trade. That's pending before Congress right now."

In reality, the trade deals are not "pending before Congress right now" because Obama hasn't sent them to Congress. They have been stuck on his desk because of opposition from Big Labor!

When it comes to his latest $500 billion stimulus bill, Obama has other problems to worry about. He blames Republicans for holding it up, but Democrats are also lining up against it. Consider some of these statements:

• "I have serious questions about the level of spending that President Obama proposed." -- Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV)
• "I am not supporting a repeal of tax cuts for the oil industry unless there are other industries that contribute. ...that offset is not going to fly, and he should know that. Maybe it's just for his election..." -- Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
• "When you start singling out certain industries [oil and gas], there's an unfairness to it. On the pay-fors, I have a problem." -- Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK)
• "Terrible. We shouldn't increase taxes on ordinary income." -- Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA)
• "I think the best jobs bill that can be passed is a comprehensive long-term deficit-reduction plan. That's better than everything else the president is talking about - combined." -- Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE)
• "Every dollar that is spent on the jobs bill ... is not going to be available to Congress to deal with the debt. And to me, the top priority of ours should be long-term major debt reduction." -- Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT)

I could go on, but the point is obvious. Clearly, Obama doesn't even have his own party on board yet. To further underscore the point, while Obama is demanding immediate passage of his bill, the New York Times reports that Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid may not even schedule a vote "until after his chamber's recess at the end of the month."

Most importantly, American voters are far from sold. A Rasmussen poll found that just 38% of likely voters support Obama's $500 billion stimulus bill.

Mr. President: the American people are not called to love you. Some may have swooned in 2008, but since then we've lost hope and desperately want a change. Truly great presidents loved the American people. And if you love us, sir, repeal ObamaCare and stop trying to raise our taxes!


Obama Wants To Tax Soup Kitchens

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) made a great point on his blog this week: Obama's proposal to make charitable donations taxable is essentially the same as raising taxes on soup kitchens and homeless shelters.

Of course with the poverty rate in "Obamerica" now affecting nearly one out of every six of us and jobless claims still going up, soup kitchens and homeless shelters are in great demand. Yet Obama wants to make it harder for them to raise the money they need to stay open -- all so he can get more revenue to spend on his failed economic ideas.

By the way, it's not just conservatives like Cantor who object to Obama's tax hikes. Wealthy liberals and non-profit groups are furious too.


Carville: Time To Panic

Democrat super-strategist James Carville has some advice for President Obama and his party: "People often ask me what advice I would give the White House about various things. ...What should the White House do now? One word came to mind: Panic."

In the wake of crushing defeats in Nevada and New York, the New York Times reports today that the White House is in full damage-control mode, desperately trying to mend fences with the Jewish community. But this could be a difficult balancing act.

Ever since FDR, most Jews have voted for Democrats. In recent years, Orthodox and other religious Jews have started voting for more conservative candidates who mirror their values and strongly support Israel. Obama's hostility toward Israel has accelerated this trend and Tuesday's stunning upset in New York's 9th District suggests it could be reaching a critical mass.

It's not likely that all of New York has suddenly become competitive. But the growing disaffection among Jewish voters could cause big problems for Obama in states like Florida, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Ohio. It could also negatively impact fundraising for Obama and Democrat candidates down the ballot.

Here's another complicating issue for Obama: According to a recent Gallup poll, Obama's approval rating among Muslims is 80%, a level of support exceeded only by blacks. How has Obama managed to alienate Jews while galvanizing Muslims? I would suggest it is his anti-Israel policies. But anything Obama does to win back Jewish voters risks alienating Muslims.

Perhaps more Jewish voters will begin to rethink their allegiance to a party that is so conflicted on the safety and security of the Jewish state.


The Green Jobs Scam

I have written extensively in past reports about how the "green jobs" agenda is a scam on almost every level. In one case, it really was a scam.

This week Cameron Potter pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering charges for stealing $400,000 in grants from the Department of Energy. But in this case, I am less concerned about the theft of taxpayer dollars and more concerned about what this case says about Obama's radical agenda.

Potter was the chief financial officer of a Tennessee-based environmental group that spends much of its time lobbying against "high-risk energy" like coal and nuclear plants. Given that coal and nuclear power provide about 65% of the electricity in this country, and wind and solar supply less than 2%, why is the Department of Energy giving out grants to left-wing groups trying to shut down coal and nuclear plants?

It's just one more example of how your hard-earned tax dollars are being misused by Obama to promote a counterproductive left-wing agenda that would shut down America's economy and cost us even more jobs. But wait... There's more.

Today's Washington Post has a devastating report on the failure of Obama's green jobs agenda. Consider this quote: "A $38.6 billion loan guarantee program that the Obama administration promised would create or save 65,000 jobs has ... directly created 3,545 new, permanent jobs after giving out almost half the allocated amount, according to Energy Department tallies."

According the Department of Energy, the program has allocated $17.2 billion. Let's do the math: $17.2 billion divided by 3,545 jobs = $4,851,904 per job.

And Obama has the audacity to demand we give him another $500 billion!
 

The White House released the printed version of President Obama's new $450 billion Stimulus program (all 196 pages) and as expected it includes tax increases.

So, in addition to hundreds of billions of dollars in new government spending, President Obama is now proposing to raise taxes.

Debate Over Mandatory E-Verify Continues Next Week

Call House Judiciary Members And Urge Them To Preserve State Enforcement Authority!

Today's scheduled mark-up of Rep. Smith's mandatory E-Verify bill (H.R. 2885) only made it through opening statements by House Judiciary Committee members before adjourning until Wednesday of next week. H.R. 2885, also called the "Legal Workforce Act", requires all employers nationwide to use the E-Verify system to verify the work authorization of new hires.

Amendments on the E-Verify bill are expected next Wednesday when the House Judiciary Committee reconvenes. While FAIR has always supported mandatory E-Verify, we are asking our members to call members of the House Judiciary Committee and urge them to either delete or amend the preemption provision (Section 6) of the bill. As currently written, that language would strip away the authority of state and local governments to go after employers that hire illegal aliens.

In today's hearing, True Immigration Reformer Congressman Steve King (R-IA) praised Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) for "laying the foundation" for an E-Verify system, but said preemption was "the number one issue" that must be addressed in this bill. Rep. King said the federal government is unwilling to enforce immigration laws, and urged the Committee to restore the authority of state and local governments to enforce our immigration laws when the federal government fails.

Meanwhile, Representative Dan Lungren (R-CA) told committee members that he would have a hard time supporting the mandatory E-Verify bill if the Committee doesn't also adopt a sweeping expansion of the agricultural guest worker program. He argued that reforming the H-2A program alone is insufficient and that an entirely new program is necessary to meet the needs of agricultural employers. Lungren claimed that anyone who suggests American workers can perform all the needed agricultural work simply does not understand agriculture. The House Judiciary Committee is expected to mark up Rep. Smith's agricultural guest worker bill immediately after it marks up the mandatory E-Verify bill.

The House Judiciary Committee will meet again on Wednesday of next week to debate and amend the E-Verify bill. Please call members of the Judiciary Committee NOW and urge them to restore the ability of state and local governments to enforce our immigration laws! Tell them:

• You want a mandatory E-Verify law that is enforceable by both state and federal authorities.
• State and local governments must be able to enforce our immigration laws when the federal government refuses to do so.

I'm worried.

Some well-meaning, but in my opinion very misguided pro-gunners are working to pass a bill that could turn into a Trojan Horse for more gun control.

Of course, I'm talking about H.R. 822, the so-called "National Reciprocity Act," which could open the flood gates of gun control.

I'm calling it the National CCW Registration Act.

While the idea that all states should recognize a concealed weapons permit is sound public policy, the use of the anti-gun federal bureaucracy to implement it is simply foolish.

Once the Federal Government is in the business of setting the standards for concealed carry permits, it's only a matter of time before they start using that power to restrict our rights.

Now you may hear arguments that this bill doesn't do that, and maybe that's true ... for now.

Even worse, once this bill starts moving, anyone can amend the bill with anything ... and no legislation can bind a future Congress in any way. And that doesn't count what Obamacrats in the Department of Justice might dream up as the "regulations" to carry out the legislative "intent."

I know many of you are frustrated that you can carry in some states but not others -- I'm frustrated, too.

I carry concealed every day, everywhere I go, and have worked to expand the ability of citizens to carry in dozens of states.

I believe I should be able to carry concealed -- without a permit -- in all 50 states. That's what "bear arms" means. Believe me, that's a long-term policy goal for the National Association for Gun Rights. 
But mark my words, H.R. 822, the National CCW Registration Act, will become nothing more than a Trojan Horse for even more federal gun control.

I understand that many who support this bill sincerely just want their right to carry respected -- but cannot due to the fact that their state or another won't do the right thing.

But the devil is truly in the details... and the details are where H.R. 822 gets sticky.

This bill isn't just about the right to carry for self defense -- it's a battle over the role of government and the ability to restrict our Second Amendment rights.

Once gun owners let the Obamacrats start mandating whether states recognize permit reciprocity, they will want to mandate what it takes to get and keep those permits.

We're talking about:

• More onerous standards to acquire a permit, so that only FBI agents can pass muster (look at New York's permit system);
• Higher fees;
• More training requirements;
• A demonstration of "Need" for a permit;
• More frequent renewal periods;
• Federally-mandated waiting periods;
• A national database of all permit holders, accessible by Attorney General Eric Holder;
• An extensive, federally-created list of Criminal Safezones, where only criminals will carry and where law-abiding gun owners are vulnerable;
• The list of potential problems is endless.

Not to mention this legislation would shred the Constitutional Carry provisions that are on the books in Arizona, Alaska, Vermont and Wyoming.

It doesn't stop with just concealed carry. They'll co-opt the bill to expand the national Brady Registration Check system to block military veterans with PTSD or individuals with misdemeanor convictions from even OWNING firearms -- much less use them for self defense.

I don't believe the intentions of the bill sponsors are intrinsically bad -- they're just naive and misguided.

Many statists in Washington will co-opt H.R. 822 as part of their grab for more federal power and less individual liberty.

Even now, the statists in Congress are trying to adopt a National ID card, complete with biometric data that they've forced the states to conform to their mandated drivers license "standards." The National Association for Gun Rights has been part of a group of liberty-minded organizations that have passed state legislation forbidding cooperation with the federal National ID.

While many in the institutional gun control lobby will tell you this is a step forward for CCW permit holders, make no mistake, the National CCW Registration Act is a misguided attempt to protect our rights.

It's like asking the fox to guard the hen house.

They will use this bill as the foundation to create a federal database of CCW permit holders. And then they can link it everywhere the Feds have database connections -- state police, doctors and insurance companies under Obamacare, and Medicaid/Medicare.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to entrust my liberty and privacy to a "trust us, they won't do that "approach to dealing with Obama, the gun-grabbers or frankly most politicians of either party in Washington.

I need you to make some noise, right now!

Not tomorrow. Not later today. RIGHT NOW.

A Trojan Horse gun control bill like H.R. 822 is exactly the kind of legislation that will get support on both sides of the aisle in Washington D.C. And remember, the Democrat-controlled Senate has to pass it before it gets to Obama ... so this bill will only get worse.

Oh he's "tough" now

President Barack Obama sharpened his rhetoric on Wednesday in a push for his $447 billion jobs package, even as polls showed Americans skeptical of the plan and Democrats' loss of a congressional seat raised new questions about his political strength.

In the latest stop on what has become a "pass this bill" tour, Obama used a campaign-style rally to press his warning to Republicans not to let election politics delay action on his proposals to reduce chronically high U.S. unemployment.

Some Democrats balking at Obama's jobs plan

Even Dems aren't backing Stimulus II

President Obama anticipated Republican resistance to his jobs program, but he is now meeting increasing pushback from his own party. Many Congressional Democrats, smarting from the fallout over the 2009 stimulus bill, say there is little chance they will be able to support the bill as a single entity, citing an array of elements they cannot abide.

"I think the American people are very skeptical of big pieces of legislation," Senator Bob Casey, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, said in an interview Wednesday, joining a growing chorus of Democrats who prefer an à la carte version of the bill despite White House resistance to that approach. "For that reason alone I think we should break it up."

Jobless claims, inflation rise, manufacturing gets weaker

Jobless claims spike...again

Applications for unemployment benefits continued to rise in the past week, while inflation pushed higher and a key manufacturing index weakened.

The weekly jobless claims number, which is closely watched as an indicator for employment trends, unexpectedly rose 11,000 to 428,000, well ahead of estimates of 411,000.

Obama's disapproval rating hits new high

2012 is fast approaching

President Barack Obama's disapproval rating has reached a new high of 55% while the number of Americans who think he is a strong leader has dropped to a new low, 48%, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday.

And a familiar pattern in public opinion on Obama again asserts itself: Americans don't like his track record on major issues while they continue to like him personally. Nearly eight in 10 respondents say Obama is likeable; large majorities believe he is compassionate, hard-working, and has a vision for the country's future. Three-quarters think he fights for his beliefs.

Obama debt taming plan would spare Social Security

Libs won't touch the golden calf of Social Security

President Barack Obama is backing away from some deficit reduction proposals he considered during failed summer negotiations with House Speaker John Boehner even as he prepares to unveil a broad plan to tackle the nation's debt with a blend of tax revenue and lower spending on health care programs.

The president won't include adjustments to Social Security when he lays out his plan Monday for lowering long-term deficits by $2 trillion over 10 years. In July, during talks with Boehner over raising the nation's borrowing limit, the White House had proposed reducing cost-of-living adjustments for most Social Security recipients, a proposal that met stiff Democratic resistance.

Activist of the Month - Stefani Buhajla

Stefani Buhajla of Fayetteville, Arkansas, has taken activism to a whole new level. In 2009, she was working as a constituent services intern for her Congressman. Around that time, she met AFP Arkansas State Director Teresa Oelke, and offered her time as a volunteer for AFP's "Hands Off My Health Care" project. She was soon volunteering for AFP on a regular basis, and was asked to attend AFP Foundation's annual Defending the American Dream Summit in Washington, D.C. NOAH TODAY
 
 In the year 2011, the Lord came unto Noah,
Who was now living in Buffalo and said:
"Once again, the earth has become wicked and over
-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me."
"Build another Ark and save 2 of every living thing
Along with a few good humans."
He gave Noah the blueprints, saying:
"You have 6 months to build the Ark before I will
Start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."
 
Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah
Weeping in his yard - but no Ark."Noah!," He roared, "I'm about to start the rain!
Where is the Ark?"
"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah, "but things have changed."
 
"I needed a Building Permit."

 "I've been arguing with the Boat Inspector
About the need for a sprinkler system."

 "My neighbors claim that I've violated the
Neighborhood By-Laws by building the Ark in my
Back garden and exceeding the height limitations. We had to
Go to the Local Planning Committee for a variance."
 
 "Then the Local Council and the Electricity Company demanded a shed load of money for the future costs of moving power
lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the
Passage for the Ark's move to the sea. I told them
That the sea would be coming to us, but they would
Hear nothing of it."

 "Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban
On cutting local trees in order to save the Greater Spotted Barn Owl."
"I tried to convince the environmentalists that I
Needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!"
 
 "When I started gathering the animals the RSPCA took me to court. They insisted that I was
Confining wild animals against their will. They
Argued the accommodations were too restrictive, and
It was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in
A confined space."

 "Then the Environmental Agency ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study
On your proposed flood."

 "I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the
Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm
Supposed to hire for my building crew."

 "The trades unions say I can't use my sons. They
Insist I have to hire only Union workers with
Ark-building experience."

 "To make matters worse, the Inland Revenue seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally
With endangered species."

 "So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10
Years for me to finish this Ark."

 

 

"Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine,
And a rainbow stretched across the sky." 
 
 Noah looked up in wonder and asked,
"You mean you're not going to destroy the world?"
 
"No," said the Lord.
"The Government beat me to it."
