Quote:
"They are not to do anything they please to provide for the general welfare, but only to lay taxes for that purpose. To consider the latter phrase not as describing the purpose of the first, but as giving a distinct and independent power to do any act they please which may be good for the Union, would render all the preceding and subsequent enumerations of power completely useless. It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they would be the sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please."

Revealed: U.S. State Department Warned U.S. Citizens in Jerusalem to Avoid Beck Event?
The Blaze | by Buck Sexton | Posted on August 30, 2011 at 6:46am
In the aftermath of the Glenn Beck "Restoring Courage" rally, questions have emerged about a U.S. State Department message released the day of the event that warned Americans to stay away.
The timing and specifics of the event warning have led some to claim that ideological opposition to the Beck event- not just concerns for American safety- could have influenced the decision.
The "Emergency Message" addressed to U.S. Government Employees and visiting citizens in Jerusalem is available on the Consulate's website. The message posted to the site on August 24th stated the following:

Wis. Protester Predicts Class Warfare: 'All you F**king Tea Party Baggers Get Ready'
The Blaze | by Buck Sexton | Posted on August 29, 2011 at 5:41pm

At a protest sing-along against Governor Scott Walker at the Wisconsin Capitol on Friday, a member of the Red & Anarchist Action Network (RAAN) held up a huge banner saying "Class War" and then delivered a message to someone filming the event: "All you f**king Tea Party Baggers, It's coming, get ready."

Judical Watch is Demanding Answers Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:
 | "The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2 |
But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.
We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action? True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step. For more information email info@truethevote.org or go HERE to sign up now!

We have a little less than one month and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America . If you forward this email to least 11 people and each of those people do the same ... you get the idea.
THE PROGRAM:
On Sunday, September 11th, 2011, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this tenth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.
In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds
So, here's what we need you to do .
(1) Forward this email. (Please don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.
(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.
Thank you for your participation. God Bless You and God Bless America !

DAY OF RAGE PLANNED FOR D.C., STATE CAPITOLS and WALL STREET SEPT 17, 2011
This information came out of Idaho, but this is being staged across the entire 50 states! We need to be aware and let others know, especially those that live in the capitals, or have businesses there. If you've seen the riots taking place in Greece, or those in the Middle East, you see a sample of what it looks like they are planning. Let's hope that either few show up, that they stay peaceful, or that the law enforcement agencies are able to thwart it before it occurs....

 | 9 11 Ten Years On: Family Security Matters |
THESE PHOTOS JUST BECAME DECLASSIFIED - FROM 9/11
The anniversary of 9/11 is coming up. We must never forget what happened and who was responsible. The threat is still with us of more destruction to come. Those radical islamist tell us so all the time. We all seem to dismiss it. We must press our Congress to look into all those who may be amongst us now training and getting ready to launch another attack. We must never allow a mosque to built any where near that sacred ground. Please be at the rally on 9/11 as the Mayor has given approval for the mosque to be built.
We the people must rise up and say NO!

Press Release:
AFDI/SIOA 9/11 Freedom Rally:
Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America
NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.
Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."
AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.
The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.
Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. McCarthy; popular radio host Joyce Kaufman; Darla Dawald, National Director of the Patriot Action Network; James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST); Coptic Christian activist Joseph Nassralla; Iraqi ex-Muslim Paul Gaynos.
Hosting the rally are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.
Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York. Cordoba Initiative board member imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an open proponent of Sharia, Islamic law, a system that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. Given the thousands of triumphal mosques that have been built on the cherished sites of conquered peoples throughout Islamic history, the mosque leaders' claim that this mosque would be understood differently by Muslims worldwide lack foundation.
The Durban III conference follows upon two previous conferences that scapegoated and demonized the state of Israel in service of Islamic jihad and Islamic supremacist interests. The rally will defend Israel against the defamation to which it will be subjected at this conference. It will also call upon the city to remove roadblocks to the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed on 9/11 and since then mired in bureaucratic red tape that has prevented its rebuilding - in stark contrast to the help Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials have given to the Ground Zero Mosque project.
AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

TUSIF is proudly taking part in the 9/11: Never Forget Project. We sought the help of a group of student organizations, and we are 10 student organizations strong. We are seeking the support of the President of the University to sponsor a flag memorial. On its own, TUSIF, for Wednesday, September 7th, has arranged for a great singer Elizabeth Salvatico and her impressive band to play a range of songs including both Salsa and of course patriotic songs to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. At the same event, TUSIF is hosting Mr. Bivona to speak; he was a first-responder on September 11.

WHERE: U.S.Congress -Room B-339 of the Rayburn Office Building, Washington D.C.
When: September 7, 2011 - 11PM - 1:30PM
Who: Congressman Allen West
Rep. Allen West (R-FL) will be hosting 9/11 family members along with a screening in Congress a documentary film called, Sacrificed Survivors: The Untold Story of the Ground Zero Mosque, on September 7, 2011. As you know, West has a national following as a rising star in Congress, as he fearlessly takes on Islamists.
Because of his position to host the film, he has of course received a lot of controversy and we anticipate further debate. Here is a short report on his position: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DtqxseRzvI
On FOX News Channel's "The Five," the panelists were discussing the controversy over Rep. Allen West's hosting of Sacrificed Survivors in Congress. Outrageously, one panelist, Bob Beckel, said that New Yorkers had to "get over" 9/11 because "it's affecting the rest of us."

This September 11th is not only the 10th anniversary of 9/11 but a decade of reflection.
Will you come to DC on September 7th to meet with Congressman West?
Congressman West is hosting a private meeting just before the screening with family members. If you are a family member, we may be able to help with your expenses. Many great organizations have come onboard so there will be national media attention about this event. Let's get the attention this important anniversary deserves.
PLEASE PASS THIS EMAIL AROUND TO OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS!

Talk-Radio's Dom Giordano To Receive ZOA's Ben Hecht Award
Shalom ZOA Members, Friends and Supporters of Israel,
Tickets are now available for Philadelphia ZOA's First Tribute Gala on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at the Hilton Philadelphia on City Avenue, as we honor talk-radio giant Dom Giordano and beloved Rabbi Fred Kazan.
Do not miss what will be a memorable event locally for the pro-Israel community in our area.
Jewish community pillar Gary Erlbaum will be master of ceremonies as we honor Dom with the Ben Hecht Award for Outstanding Journalism for his honest and forthright support of Israel, and Rabbi Kazan for his lifelong devotion to the Jewish State of Israel with our Guardian of Israel Award. Jonathan Tobin of Commentary and former executive editor of the Jewish Exponent will be guest speaker, and there will be remarks from our own great ZOA National President Morton Klein.
Of course, there will also be delicious glatt-kosher food, a festive and warm evening and the opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate Israel.
Philadelphia ZOA has set up a special ticket hotline so that you can be a part of this evening. Call 215-333-1729 to order tickets, or contact us by email at a special email address: zoadom@yahoo.com . Or if you would like, a copy of the invitation and response card is attached to this email. Simply print it out and return it to: ZOA-GPD, P.O. Box 45604, Phila., PA 19149.
There is no one else in local media who matches Dom when it comes to standing up for Israel, patriotism and integrity. Dom has taken on guests and callers on 1210 AM WPHT Radio who distort the facts about Israel, and he goes out of his way to speak truthfully about the Arab war against the Jews because it is the right thing to do.
Rabbi Kazan has been a fervent champion of Israel and has inspired generations of local Jews to have a place in their heart for the Jewish State. Whether it be currently at Historic Congregation Kesher Israel where he is religious leader, or Temple Adath Israel where he is Rabbi Emeritus, or at Beth Sholom where he served, or during his tours of Jewish Philadelphia he leads, he has been a proponent for Israel.
It is the duty of all who care about Israel to thank and show appreciation for stalwarts of Israel as we lest not take such support for granted. In our area, we must come out to publicly thank Dom Giordano and Rabbi Kazan.
We look forward to seeing you the evening of Sept. 8.

Please come to our Constitution Day event entitled "Everything you wanted to know about ObamaCare, but didn't know who to ask."
They said we had to pass it to know what's in it, but over a year later, people STILL don't fully understand how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) - aka "ObamaCare" - will affect them and their health.
That's why a coalition of citizens and health care professionals will present "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About ObamaCare But Didn't Know Who to Ask" on the campus of DeSales University in Center Valley, PA from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 - which, ironically, happens to be Constitution Day. DeSalesUniversity is located in the Lehigh Valley of PA, within easy driving distance of the major population centers of central, northeast, and southeast PA.
Policy professionals, physicians, business and legislative leaders, and representatives from groups most affected by the PPACA will share their insights and expertise through presentations, breakout sessions, exhibits, and panel discussions.
They'll explain how ObamaCare affects personal liberty and the Constitution, families and seniors, taxpayers, Medicare and the deficit, insurance premiums and the uninsured, businesses, employees and the economy, doctors, patients, and access to care, American innovation in medicine, and more.
Also included will be detailed updates on state and national efforts to defund, repeal, replace, and nullify ObamaCare from some of the legislative leaders spearheading those efforts.
Participants will leave the three hour event far more informed about what's in the PPACA than most of the legislators who voted for it, and will be energized to get involved in the fight to save America's health care. Participants, both live and online, will be empowered by their new understanding of how the PPACA will not accomplish any of the things its name implies, and will be able to effectively communicate that new understanding to others, providing important education about why this ill-conceived piece of legislation needs to be defeated by any means possible.
Already, according to Rasmussen's most recent poll, 54% of Americans want to see ObamaCare repealed, while only 39% oppose repeal - but the people who passed it clearly have not heard the voices of the American people yet. The more Americans know about the PPACA, the more they dislike it, and this conference will help to provide the tools citizen advocates and health care professionals need to effectively participate in the process to defund, repeal, and replace ObamaCare.
The event will be free to the public on site in a venue which will seat 500, and a live streaming video, and a professionally produced program will promote information about our coalition's sponsoring groups, as well as providing important information about the PPACA.
Please consider joining with the Lehigh Valley Coalition for Health Care Reform to help educate the public about ObamaCare through your sponsorship of this important event. If you'd like to be involved, please contact me ASAP and I'll reserve your space in our program and on the promotional materials. We are currently working on creating a web page and Facebook page for the event.

Awareness of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development is racing across the nation as citizens in community after community are learning what their city planners are actually up to. As awareness grows, I am receiving more and more calls for tools to help activists fight back. Many complain that elected officials just won't read detailed reports or watch long videos. "Can you give us something that is quick, and easy to read that we can hand out," I'm asked.
So here it is. A one page, quick description of Agenda 21 that fits on one page. I've also included for the back side of your hand out a list of quotes for the perpetrators of Agenda 21 that should back up my brief descriptions.
A word of caution, use this as a starter kit, but do not allow it to be your only knowledge of this very complex subject. To kill it you have to know the facts. Research, know your details; discover the NGO players in your community; identify who is victimized by the policies and recruit them to your fight; and then kill Agenda 21. That's how it must be done. The information below is only your first step. Happy hunting.
What is Sustainable Development?

2012 Presidential Candidate Selector or Obama, His Allies & Critics Matching Quiz
Politicians have already indicated their 2012 presidential aspirations. This matching quiz includes President Obama, top members of his administration, Obama's most vocal critics (Boehner, Cantor, etc.) and likely White House prospects (Palin, Pawlenty, Jindal, etc.). You may select a position for every issue, or just select issues important to you. The political figures' positions are based upon their voting records, special interest group ratings and their statements in the public record. In cases where there is no known public record or statement, these politicos are not given a score on that issue. We add candidates, revise their views and include new issues as they become known or change. Check back often for updates.

RedState Morning Briefing
For August 30, 2011
1. When Smart People Write Dumb Things
Whether you agree with Bill Keller of the New York Times or not, the man is not dumb. Whether you agree with Kathleen Parker or not, she is not dumb. Same with Ryan Lizza at the New Yorker. Yes, they may be center-left (or depending on who you talk to, center-right for Parker) and yes, Lizza is arguably more than center-left as is Keller. But these are not really dumb people.
Yet this past week they've really written some dumb stuff and it is not just a reflection on them, but a reflection on the entire American press corp and its assorted editorialists. In short, instead of lecturing candidates on how the candidates should shut up about religion, it is really obvious the American political press should shut the hell up when it comes to issues of heaven and, well, hell.
2. President Obama has Tour Buses Flown to Stump Speeches
President Obama has been touring all over the midwest these past few weeks, giving speeches to crowds of fans, anxious to hear what's next on his agenda. One could be forgiven for believing that these are less about pushing the president's current agenda, and more about launching the reelection campaign, however this is a charge that the administration adamantly denies.
But there is a very simple reason that this is viewed as more of a campaign effort. Boasting bulletproof windows, five inch thick doors, and it's own oxygen supply, the President has made the rounds for these speeches in a multi-million dollar bus, dubbed "The Beast" by it's critics. There's been no shortage of opinions from people and pundits on this bus and how having the President tour around the midwest in a caravan of cars and seated on a tour bus sends the message that he is on the campaign trail and using taxpayer dollars to do it.
It appears however, that this might not be the case. According to some sources he hasn't really been riding these buses much at all. They say, he's been flying them.
3. Polling catastrophe for President Obama
I mentioned recently that broader polling pools favor Democrats, so when a big new poll of adults comes out from Gallup that shows Barack Obama to be in trouble, I take notice.
The facts: Gallup's results are a three day rolling average of daily poll of 1,500 adults. Telephone poll, no mention given of mobile phone handling. MoE 3.
4. OK, Obama, Repeal the Entire Payroll Tax..But Save Social Security
After Labor Day, Obama plans to unveil his highly unanticipated jobs plan. Much like his first jobs plan, this one will include massive stimulus handouts to special interests, prodigal infrastructure spending (as much as $556 billion), unprecedented extensions of unemployment benefits, and more welfare transfer payments. Concurrently, he will inveigh against "rich" job creators and offer a healthy dose of vapid rhetoric regarding regulatory reform. However, there will be something new - something more appealing to the skeptical electorate; extending the one-year cut in payroll taxes.
Obama intuitively knows that his failed Keynesian policies have been checkmated, and will no longer resonate with the public. Accordingly, he plans to one-up Republicans in their own playbook, by offering a tax cut. He will request that Congress renew the payroll tax cut for another year, keeping the employee's share of the tax at 4.2%.
5. An Open Letter to GOP NLRB Member Brian Hayes: Please Resign Immediately
Dear Member Hayes:
Our nation stands at the precipice of disaster, its future generations are indebted due to the overindulgent spending of politicians from both political parties. Our unemployment is untenably high, our welfare roles expanded beyond reason, both with no signs of easing. Meanwhile, our nation's job creators are burdened with an over-regulating, activist government whose sole existence at this point is to appease special constituencies. It is for these reasons, and more, that you are urged to resign your position as a member of the National Labor Relations Board.

Stand up for Joe McCarthy.

Iran Launches Bible-burning Campaign
Friday, 26 Aug 2011
By Tom O'Connell
Iranian authorities began to systematically seize and destroy Bibles after a Shiite cleric issued an urgent warning about the spread of Christianity.
Authorities in northwestern Iran seized 6,500 Bibles, according to the Iranian Christian news organization Mohabat News, which quotes an official as saying of the seizure that "all religions are strengthening their power to confront Islam; otherwise, what does this huge number of Bibles mean?" The agency has reported several other recent incidents of Bibles and other Christian literature being seized and sometimes publicly burned.
Mohabat reports that the government-connected cleric, Ayatollah Hadi Jahangosha, warned of "the spread of Christianity among our youth," pointing to burgeoning satellite programming, literature, and religious articles promoting the Western tradition.

Outrage As Obama Names New Voter Initiative After ACORN
NewsMax | By David A. Patten and Jim Meyers | Monday, 29 Aug 2011 06:49 PM
Government watchdogs are blasting the Obama campaign's decision to name its 2012 voter-registration initiative "Project Vote" - the same name as a group closely linked to the discredited ACORN organization.
Members of ACORN were caught on undercover video giving two supposed clients detailed instructions on how to commit fraud, and ACORN faced a number of voter-registration fraud cases following the 2008 election.
Use of the Project Vote name by the Obama campaign is "truly astonishing," Tom Fitton, president of the conservative Judicial Watch good-government group, tells Newsmax. "We knew President Obama was the president from ACORN. And if this isn't an indication of it, we don't know what is."

Wisconsin Union Council Bans Republicans From Labor Day Parade
By Newsmax Wires | Monday, 29 Aug 2011 02:29 PM
A Wisconsin labor council that sponsors the Labor Day parade in Wausau is giving Republican lawmakers their walking papers - in the form of banning them from walking in the parade this year - saying they are unfriendly to union workers.
The action is the latest salvo in the political fallout from Republican Gov. Scott Walker's reining in collective-bargaining rights for public employees to cut the state budget. Republicans supported the measure, while Democrats were so opposed that several senators fled the state to avoid voting on it.

Anjem Choudary: Muslims are Rising up Across the World, Islam Will Dominate!
Just like Muslims in America, Muslims across the West are rising up and calling for Sharia Law whether we like it or not. The following video featuring IslamoPUNK Anjem Choudary shows us another example of the growing Sharia campaign.
For the most part Muslims are slowly taking over within the law. They have mastered how to use our freedoms against us to further the cause of Islam, and if the rules do not change it is just a matter of time until we lose this war. The first step to our victory is to stop respecting Islam as a religion, and alert non-Muslims that it is a complete way of life which calls for the dominance over non-Muslims. We have to warn our fellow non-Muslims that Islam is a bigger threat to our way of life than Nazism was. For the sake of our future generations, we have no choice but to fight! All within the law of course.

By Amb Yoram Ettinger Israel's battle against Palestinian terrorism and conventional military threats must not be inhibited by its ties with the U.S. and Egypt. In 1981, Prime Minister Menachem Begin ordered the bombing of Iraq's nuclear reactor. In 1982, he launched a comprehensive war on the Palestinian Liberation Organization's terrorist headquarters in Lebanon. Both operations were executed irrespective of bullying and pressure from the U.S. and notwithstanding the fragile 1979 Israel-Egypt peace treaty. Begin realized that failing to eradicate these threats would imperil Israel's survival, erode its power of deterrence and thus undermine Israel's deterrence-driven peace with Egypt and its strategic cooperation with the U.S. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the Israel-Egypt peace treaty did not collapse. Once again, Arab leaders did not rush to rescue the PLO, demonstrating that the Palestinian issue was not a crown jewel of Arab policymaking.... Read the whole entry »
By Ted Belman (First published in American Thinker) Once again, the US, the UN and the EU criticized Israel for announcing new settlement construction in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) calling such construction "obstacles to peace". At the same time they ignore the real obstacles to peace. The primary obstacle to peace is and always has been Arab rejection of the Jewish state of Israel or Jews both before and after the state was declared After the Declaration of Independence by Israel in May 1948, the surrounding Arab countries attacked Israel with the intent of destroying it. This invasion ended with the Armistice Agreement of 1949 but not before the Jordanians destroyed Jewish Jerusalem. Colonel Abdullah el Tell, local commander of the Jordanian Arab Legion, described the destruction of the Jewish Quarter, in his Memoirs: "The operations of calculated destruction were set in motion. . . . By Bill Warner Obama said at the latest White House Iftar dinner: Like so many faiths, Islam has always been part of our American family, and Muslim Americans have long contributed to the strength and character of our country, in all walks of life. These words have no basis in fact. Islam is not part of our civilization because its foundational principles are opposite to ours. Our civilization is built on the foundation of critical thought (how we think) and the Golden Rule (ethics). Islam is built on submission (authoritative thought) and ethical dualism. Let's compare the principles, of these different thought systems, starting with authoritative thought and critical thought. Critical thought (also: analytic thought, scientific thought) is the necessary reasoning or intellectual basis for our culture of democracy. Critical thought is objective-no matter who does the work, they get the same results. It is fact-based, uses cause and effect, and is intellectual,... Read the whole entry » By JONATHAN SPYER, JPOST The apparently imminent eclipse of the Gaddafi regime in Libya has re-ignited hope among some Western commentators concerning the so-called Arab Spring. The entry of Libyan rebels to Tripoli is being depicted in some circles as the removal of a major obstacle to the onward march toward freedom alleged to be taking place this year throughout the Arabic-speaking world. Some of the more enthusiastic observers are now turning their hopeful gaze toward Syria. They hope that with liberty victorious in Libya, the Assad regime will be the next to fall. These hopes are mistaken on two levels. First, it is mistaken to maintain that a great battle for liberty is currently under way in the Arabic-speaking world. Sober analysts of the region have long noted that the key stand-off in the main countries of the Arab world is between sclerotic and dictatorial regimes, and popular Islamist movements seeking to overthrow them. Nothing has yet happened in the Arab... Read the whole entry » Losing Malmo... And Brussels, and Rome, and Amsterdam . . . By Andrew C. McCarthy, NRO Do you remember the jihadist terror campaign that ravaged Malmo, Sweden's third largest city? Do you recall the bombings, the suicide-hijackings, and the random assassinations that finally coerced the city to surrender to Islamization? No? Funny, I don't remember them either. Yet there is no question that Malmo has surrendered. Large enclaves of the city, like similar enclaves throughout Western Europe, have earned the dread label "no-go zone." They are unsafe for non-Muslims, particularly women who do not conform to Islamist conventions of dress and social interaction. They are especially perilous for police, firefighters, and emergency-medical technicians. Why would a community discourage the so-called first-responders? After all, the top priority of law-enforcement officers is to assist crime victims. In an Islamic enclave, a high percentage of these will be Muslims. And... The consequences of the Facebook group "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" continue to show their ripple effect, although in this case the craziness began before and continued after this particular incident.
Remember the satiric Facebook group that declared May 20th "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day?" The group attracted over 100,000 fans, led Pakistan to ban Facebook for a few days, and provoked more than a few death threats. The admin eventually pulled the pag.
One of those people threatening members of this Facebook group was Zachary Adam Chesser (pictured), who was sentenced Thursday to life prison because of these and other extremist actions. The 21-year-old from Fairfax, Va., had gone from being a typical undergrad student at George Mason University in 2009 to a follower of the radical Islamic group of cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, thought to be one of the key leaders of Al-Qaeda.
Chesser hasn't just been sentenced to life prison just because of his Facebook threats to those supporting "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day," of course. He admitted to providing information to the Somalian al-Shabaab organization. In addition, it seems he was planning on joining al-Shabaab and tried to board a plane from New York to Uganda, bringing his son along in order to disguise his intentions. Chesser was caught before the flight's departure.

LARRY KLAYMAN - I spent this week in Israel with Glenn Beck. Glenn, who left Fox News a few months ago, organized an event he called "Restoring Courage," and courageous it was. Kyl says Obama said no border security for political reasons
|
|

Vice President Joe Biden, Commissar of the Cracked Head Club, visited China and voiced his understanding of China's One Child Policy. The part that he understood was the forced abortions and the eugenics of baby girls. The part that he didn't understand was how the Chinese government expects one breadwinner to support four retirees. But as usual Biden had it backward. The Chinese government isn't worried about how retirees will be supported, because they have no investment in them. They'll receive whatever social benefits are doled out, and that's it. China's brutal pragmatism and lack of democracy makes rationing health care and anything else easy. Massive rallies and protests happen all the time in the People's Republic, unreported by the media, and are ignored by the authorities. Tienanmen Square showed the limits of popular protest in creating political change. It's a lesson that neither the leadership nor the people have forgotten. Biden should have really been asking his question in Washington D.C. While America has no official one child policy, it has promoted a shift from family savings and support, to a government supervised safety net. Taxes have gone up, the single income family has become rarer and birth rates have dropped. Marriage and children have become more expensive, the former has dropped at a staggering rate among lower income families, and the latter has gone up leading to large numbers of single parents.

Rick Perry AGREES with Obama: Open Borders for America!

Maxine Waters Apologizes-To Fidel Castro By Humberto Fontova Breitbart/BigPeace.com
According to Maxine Waters the Tea party "can go straight to hell." But "VIVA FIDEL!" she chanted during the rapturous reception that greeted the Stalinist dictator's visit to Harlem's Riverside Church on Sept. 9, 2000. The overflow crowd packed the Church to suffocation and spilled from the doors onto the streets and sidewalks. "I came to Harlem because I knew it was here that I would find my best friends!" beamed the jailer of the longest suffering black political prisoners in modern history, inside the Harlem church that might still be radioactive except for Khrushchev foiling his fondest wish in October 1962. "If the nuclear missiles had remained," boasted Che Guevara to the London Daily Worker in November 1962, "we would have fired them against the heart of the U.S. including New York City. The victory of socialism is worth millions of atomic victims."

On the evening of April 17, 2009 the real meaning of what Barack Obama's call for shared sacrifices was forced on the families of Leigh Anna Jimmerson and of Tad Mattle, a 19 year old from Huntsville Alabama any family would be proud to claim. Tad was more than a typical teenager. Leigh Anna was Tad girlfriend - family and friends said they were a great couple - he had an old car he worked on - but Tad was also an Eagle Scout who had planned to attend the University of Alabama on a full academic scholarship. If ever there was a young man with his whole life before him, it was Tad Mattle.
All of that changed forever at about 9 PM that spring night as Tad and Leigh Anna, a high school sophomore, were stopped at a light in Huntsville their hometown. Suddenly, they were dead. They were killed, ... Continue Reading:Tad Mattle and Leigh Anna Jimmerson: putting a human face on welcoming illegal aliens

From Carlo Grilletto:
I have recently seen some inquires about Gov Rick Perry's stand on Gun Rights, so I checked his NRA rating.
He was rated as A+ for the 2010 Texas Gubernatorial race.
Here is the NRA justification for the rating:
"NRA Life Member, accomplishments and outspoken support for the Second Amendment have earned him the endorsement of the NRA-PVF and an "A+" candidate rating
As governor, signed the NRA-backed Castle Doctrine law affirming your right to self-defense inside your home, vehicle or business, and removing any duty to retreat from a violent attack
Gave final approval to bills extending the terms of Concealed Handgun Licenses from four to five years; reducing license application fees for seniors, military personnel and veterans; and protecting shooting ranges from junk lawsuits
Proudly added his name to a "friend of the court" brief filed in the McDonald case, stating that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental, individual right that protects all Americans"
In addition, since 2010 he has signed additional laws extending the right to carry

My Five Favorite Moments
Friends,
Eighteen weeks ago, we launched the Leaders series, and look how far we've come. From the start, we've aimed to provide compelling interviews with influential leaders who many times are dismissed or ignored by the mainstream media.
Sens. Jim DeMint and Marco Rubio, Reps. Joe Walsh and Allen West, Sec. Donald Rumsfeld and Gov. Rick Scott are just a few of the trailblazers who have shared their thoughts and insights --- often on a very personal level --- in the past four months. We've compiled a "best of" list, a potpourri of our favorite clips from all the interviews, which we hope you enjoy. Click here to watch.
And be sure to watch for a new round of sit-downs starting next week.
Thanks for all you do,
Ginni
P.S. Be sure to sign up for The Daily Caller's weekday emails, including TheDC Morning, a hilarious take on our favorite news items, and TheDC Links, a roundup of the day's top stories.

Obama's War on the Secret Ballot This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell and Clint Bolick of the Goldwater Institute was published August 28, 2011 on The Huffington Post. The Obama Administration has fired its opening salvo against a cornerstone of democracy: the right to secret ballot. Last fall, voters in four states voted overwhelmingly to amend their constitutions protect the right of workers to vote by secret ballot in deciding whether or not to form unions. That right has been enshrined in federal law for 75 years but is threatened by bills pending in Congress. Nonetheless, the Obama National Labor Relations Board has filed a lawsuit against Arizona seeking to halt its protection of the right to secret ballot. Federal law governs labor relations, the NLRB asserts, and states cannot provide greater security for worker rights. Read the Entire Column
9/11 Memorial Without Prayer
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published August 29, 2011 in The Washington Times. We've got a word for someone who hates Christmas - Grinch. What should we call someone who hates America's Judeo-Christian heritage, even to the point of barring clergy at a ceremony at the site of a major tragedy? How about "theophobe"? The word is already out there. You can look it up. In one special case, we can just call the theophobe "Mayor." That would be Michael R. Bloomberg, New York's trendy, formerly Republican leader, who has topped even his own endorsement of a mosque near Ground Zero by forbidding prayer at the upcoming ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Maybe Mr. Bloomberg is only selectively theophobic and would consider allowing some Muslim prayers or perhaps an atheistic rant. To be fair, it must be noted that he has not had a problem with the display of the World Trade Center Cross, a 20-foot structure composed of steel beams found that way in the Ground Zero rubble. But his tone-deaf moral equivalence when it comes to Ground Zero sensibilities is still stunning.

The Equality of Reaganomics This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published August 25, 2011 on Forbes.com. For over 20 years now, major media institutions have been reporting growing inequality in America, blaming it on Reaganomics. But does what they are reporting reflect actual "inequality," or does it just reflect changing demographics in our society? Often the numbers they are reporting for changes over decades can't logically be compared because the composition of the numbers themselves has changed so much. Because this issue, and the media institutions themselves, are so ideologically contentious, much of what has been reported has been misleading at best, and deceptive at worst. All of this has been sorted out the best by far by Alan Reynolds in his brilliant 2006 book Income and Wealth. Reynolds digs deep into the underlying data to show that what has been reported as rising inequality involves primarily changing demographics that reflect changing patterns of work and productive output, as well as misunderstood changes in the meaning and composition of the numbers being reported themselves. I discuss all of this in detail in my new book America's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb. As Reynolds reports, the top fifth of households in terms of income includes nearly six times as many full time workers as the bottom fifth. That is because the top fifth is heavily composed of two earner couples and older children or other relatives that work. The bottom fifth, by contrast, includes many aged or young singles who are either retired or still in school. Read the Entire Column Excluding Prayer from 9/11 Memorial Compounds the Tragedy of that Day This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published August 25, 2011 on The Washington Examiner website. Do you remember what things were like in the hours and days following the 9/11 terrorist attacks? Evidently New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg does not. While the smoke was still rising against a clear sky over Manhattan, Pennsylvania, and Washington, people were flooding to churches across the country and prayer groups spontaneously organized in neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces. Days later, President Bush spoke at a national memorial service at our National Cathedral, and clergy of various faiths offered prayers in conjunction with the president's remarks. And a televised interfaith service was held in New York City, attended by thousands. Yet on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Bloomberg has decreed that clergy will be excluded from the 9/11 memorial ceremony. Bloomberg--who has a record of hostility toward social-conservative issues - especially Christian issues - says the memorial schedule is too busy to allow prayer. Read the Entire Column

For the Record
It's time for Reaganomics again
"If you really want to light the fuse of a liberal Democrat, compare Barack Obama's economic performance after 30 months in office with that of Ronald Reagan. It's not at all flattering for Mr. Obama. The two presidents have a lot in common. Both inherited an American economy in collapse. And both applied daring, expensive remedies. Mr. Reagan passed the biggest tax cut ever, combined with an agenda of deregulation, monetary restraint and spending controls. Mr. Obama, of course, has given us a $1 trillion spending stimulus. By the end of the summer of Reagan's third year in office, the economy was soaring. The GDP growth rate was 5% and racing toward 7%, even 8% growth. In 1983 and '84 output was growing so fast the biggest worry was that the economy would 'overheat.' In the summer of 2011 we have an economy limping along at barely 1% growth and by some indications headed toward a 'double-dip' recession. By the end of Reagan's first term, it was Morning in America. Today there is gloomy talk of America in its twilight. My purpose here is not more Reagan idolatry, but to point out an incontrovertible truth: One program for recovery worked, and the other hasn't." --columnist Stephen Moore

"When a business or an individual spends more than it makes, it goes bankrupt. When government does it, it sends you the bill. And when government does it for 40 years, the bill comes in two ways: higher taxes and inflation. Make no mistake about it, inflation is a tax and not by accident." --Ronald Reagan
Political Futures
"The GOP members of the ridiculous 'Super Committee' will lose credibility for their party if they do anything other than support budget cuts, or force across-the-board cuts to come into law if no agreement can be reached, as the debt-ceiling bill calls for. If anyone doubts this, they need only check with the Republican members of Congress in so-called 'red states' who voted for the debt-ceiling compromise. They've been having quite the unpleasant time at town hall meetings back home.... They've heard catcalls, jeering and lots of tough questions. Raise revenue or refuse to keep every possible tax break for individuals -- ranging from the home mortgage deduction to the current reduction in the payroll tax -- and the public won't be seeing 'red' anymore. Instead, they'll be seeing images of white flags and Swiss cheese." --columnist Matt Towery
Government
"The Obama State Department has just released its annual terrorism report. It was due to Congress on April 30; the administration that talks incessantly about 'the rule of law' -- but has little interest in enforcing or complying with the law -- held off until the end of August, when Washington is a ghost town. But that, as President Obama must say a lot, is par for the course. The immediately notable thing about the report is what is not in it. Once again, the Taliban is not included in State's listing of Foreign Terrorist Organizations ... the Taliban whose terrorism and safe haven for al Qaeda are the justification for continuing to have our troops fight and die in Afghanistan. ... [W]hat's the chance that we will be clear about who the enemy is if the administration can't even bring itself to say the Taliban is a terrorist organization? Of course, if the Obama administration were encouraging negotiations with the Taliban (it is) and even anticipating a settlement in which the Taliban were brought into the Afghan government (ditto), the State Department wouldn't want to complicate that by naming the Taliban as a terrorist organization, right? So we are putting our forces in harm's way in the War on Terror to fight an outfit that we won't call 'terrorists' and that we actually see as part of the future Afghan government we are building. Great." --columnist Andrew C. McCarthy
Opinion in Brief
"In this political culture, the black political leader does not encourage his people to move forward, but rather convinces them that they cannot move forward. Whatever choices they make, their future is determined not by personal choice, but by the restrictive confines of white society. ... President Obama is constrained by the political paradigm of black leadership, since for him to be in control of the government would mean to betray his people. ... His strategy is to highlight and blame the political context of his predicament, rather than make and own decisions. He cannot own his decisions since in his view, and the view of black politicians, only white society controls the process of decision-making. ... While in reality President Obama is the most powerful man in the world, his Chicago-forged sense of identity as a black political leader restricts him to complaining about why he can't effect meaningful change because of others, the excuse-du-jour now being the GOP House. President Obama is not limited by the Republican Congress, or the decisions of past presidents, or the state of the economy; he is limited by his perceptions of what a black politician can and cannot do." --columnist Michael Bargo Jr.
Re: The Left"When we say 'less fortunate,' we generally mean the poor rather than the disabled, who actually are less fortunate. ... The 'less fortunate' are not less fortunate in terms of their chances in the economy; the government has instituted program after program dedicated to helping those who begin at low socioeconomic status. ... In many cases, the 'less fortunate' get to spend their days watching television rather than participating in educational endeavors, as studies tend to show. ... The question is how society can rectify those imbalances, or if we actually should. The answer is clearly yes in some cases; everyone agrees that the mentally and physically disabled deserve societal protections. But if we get rid of the incentive for the non-disabled to work hard by giving them excuses not to do so, like attempting to provide equal outcomes for the non-equally gifted, we destroy the capacity for true class mobility. The beauty of a free society is that someone slightly less gifted who works harder than usual can rise; the burden of a free society is that someone slightly less gifted is expected to work harder than usual." --columnist Ben Shapiro Culture"In a speech at Sichuan University, Vice President Joe Biden said 'Your [China's] policy has been one which I fully understand -- I'm not second-guessing -- of one child per family.' ... Biden didn't condemn the immorality or brutality of a system of forced sterilization and forced abortion -- he merely noted that the demographic consequences of thus drastically limiting the population would lead to problems for China's version of Social Security. ... Is the vice president truly unaware that children born in defiance of the one-child policy are not permitted to enroll in school or see a doctor? But many, many Chinese babies don't even get that far. They are ripped from their struggling mothers' wombs by government goons. ... The Chinese communist government, which has killed more people than any regime in the history of the world (65 million according to the Black Book of Communism), regards human beings as widgets to be manipulated or destroyed in the service of the state. ... [T]he regime remains one of the most vicious on the planet. It is deeply shameful that the vice president needed to be reminded of that." --columnist Mona Charen Insight"[Tyrannical] power is absolute, minute, regular, provident and mild. It would be like the authority of a parent if, like that authority, its object was to prepare men for manhood; but it seeks, on the contrary, to keep them in perpetual childhood: it is well content that the people should rejoice, provided they think of nothing but rejoicing. For their happiness such a government willingly labors, but it chooses to be the sole agent and the only arbiter of that happiness; it provides for their security, foresees and supplies their necessities, facilitates their pleasures, manages their principal concerns, directs their industry, regulates the descent of property, and subdivides their inheritances: what remains, but to spare them all the care of thinking and all the trouble of living?" --French historian Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859)
Essential Liberty"What laws are we morally obligated to obey? Help with the answer can be found in 'Economic Liberty and the Constitution,' a 66-page pamphlet by Jacob G. Hornberger, founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation. Hornberger offers a hypothetical whereby Congress enacts a compulsory church attendance law that requires children to attend church service each Sunday. Parents are penalized if their children fail to comply. Would there be any moral or constitutional legitimacy to such a congressional mandate? The law would be a clear violation of one's natural, or God-given, rights to life and liberty. As to whether it would be constitutional, we have to see whether mandating church attendance is one of those enumerated powers of Congress found in Article 1, Section 8 of our Constitution. We'd find no such authority. Our anti-federalist Founding Fathers didn't trust Congress with religious liberty, so they sought to protect it with the First Amendment to explicitly deny Congress the power to mandate religious conduct. Suppose there's widespread popular support for a church-going mandate and the U.S. Supreme Court rules it constitutional; do Americans have a moral obligation to obey the law? ... [O]ne cannot avoid the conclusion that the liberties envisioned by the nation's founders have been under siege, trivialized and nullified. Philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe explained that 'no one is as hopelessly enslaved as the person who thinks he's free.' That's becoming an apt description for Americans who are oblivious to -- or ignorant of -- the liberties we've lost." --economist Walter E. Williams Post your comments Reader Comments "I read Alexander's Essays every week and agree with The Patriot Post that we are in a battle with socialists who are very aggressive. In recent essays, like Ballots or Bullets? you seem to be escalating the alert that we need to be prepared to take up arms in our cause. This mystifies me somewhat. Against whom are we to take military action? Liberals? Politicians with whom we disagree? The president? The military or local police? The IRS? Labor Unions? The education establishment? I think that you are off base implying that we should take up arms." --Dean Editor's Reply: Actually, if you have read my recent essays on the subject of revolution (The Next American Revolution, Sunset or Sunrise on Liberty? and Restoration or Revolution?), you will note the common theme in these essays is that I believe the Ballot Box option is still viable, and to the extent it fails, then we step up to measures of "civil disobedience" as our Founders did when dumping Tea into Boston Harbor. Beyond that, I will cross that bridge when we get there, remembering also that the "Shot heard 'round the world" was fired at at Concord's Old North Bridge, when oppressors of that era were in route to confiscate the arms of Patriots. As for the "need to be prepared to take up arms in the cause of Liberty," every Patriot should be so prepared in the best of times. "You noted in Friday's Digest that the Congressional Budget Office is making debt predictions based on tax increases. Surely with all the historical data existing showing the positive impact on revenues after tax decreases are implemented, there is similar data showing what happens when taxes are raised? Does our great and powerful CBO look at this data when making their assumptions that revenues will skyrocket and growth will increase? More stimulus, less revenue, more debt, another downgrade, higher interest costs, a vicious cycle. We survived incompetence under Jimmy Carter. It's a different matter when ruining America is the plan." --Jon "When Thomas Edison tried repeatedly in his quest to create a working light bulb, he was always using his own money. When Obama tries to stimulate the economy with one stimulus plan after another, he's using our money, only he's using it like it's play money, as if it never had to be paid back." --Paul Correction: In Friday's Digest we said incorrectly that the Virginia earthquake was Monday. It was Tuesday. Apparently, our collective editing mind was jarred by the tremors. The Last WordWhenever anyone wants to prove that millions of Americans are either dumb or just plain nuts, they mention that 12% of the population is convinced that a badly scarred James Dean is living as a hermit and a 450-pound Elvis Presley is working at a 7/11 outside Nashville. I say that doesn't prove anything beyond wishful thinking. A far more convincing case can be made by pointing out that even now 40% of Americans believe that Barack Obama is doing a bang-up job. In a saner world, it's Obama who would be a hermit or working at a 7/11 in Chicago." --columnist Burt Prelutsky Semper Vigilo, Fortis, Paratus et Fidelis! The Patriot Post Editorial Team |
Two names loom large in this week's news. Two names that ordinarily we wouldn't think about together.
But, in the great struggle now unfolding before us for our nation's future, it seems to me these two quintessential Americans are worth thinking about in light of each other.
One is Steve Jobs.
The other is Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.
Jobs, of course, is in the headlines because of his decision to step down and retire from Apple Computer, the company he co-founded, from which he later got fired, and to which he subsequently returned and resurrected.
Dr. King is in the news because of the opening of the King monument in Washington, D.C.
Other than being in the news at the same time, why might we think of these two very different Americans together? Read more: |
News from The Hill:
Cantor announces anti-tax and regulations agenda By Erik Wasson
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on Monday laid out an ambitious anti-tax and regulations agenda for the fall.
In a memo to rank-and-file Republicans, Cantor said the House will target 10 major regulations for elimination, and will also seek to enact one major tax cut for businesses.
Republicans are offering the agenda as a contrast to President Obama's jobs plan which is to be formally announced next week and is expected to include stimulus spending.
Cantor's proposals will face an uphill battle in becoming law, but could make their way into a package produced by the deficit "supercommittee" of 12 lawmakers charged with recommending $1.5 trillion in deficit-cuts by late November. Democrats want that package to focus on economic stimulus to create jobs.

Lessons from Hurricane Irene
Without question, Hurricane Irene struck a major blow to the United States' East Coast over the weekend. At least 24 people have died, hundreds of thousands remain without power across the mid-Atlantic, and the estimates of direct costs of damage are in the range of billions of dollars. Our thoughts are with those who have suffered at the hands of the storm and who are beginning the process of rebuilding.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

WaPo bigotry? Target Mormonism in latest Beck attack
Realizing every news outlet imaginable is covering Hurricane Irene, some members of the press have taken the lazy route to getting the most internet traffic: smear Glenn Beck! Stu called in to radio today to explain his absence - it was a pretty understandable excuse. After driving 2 and a half hours and making it only a fraction of the way to NYC, Stu turned around and headed back home - to no power and several downed trees. Check out the call on radio today.
DON'T BE LIKE WILSON: One of Glenn Beck's writers, Wilson Garrett, has listened to Glenn warn time and time again to be prepared for anything. Like most of us, he didn't listen. What happened to him when Irene hit? Check out his blog over at GlennBeck.com.
Al Gore: Doubt global warming? You are racist!
Al Gore has done it again! He's said something even dumber than all of his previous dumb comments. Thought he couldn't top the center of the earth being '2 million' degrees? Oh, think again! Gore is now likening those who are skeptical of the doomsday environmental predictions as, wait for it... racists! How does someone's race have anything to do with the climate? Get the audio HERE.
Michael Vey: The NY Journal of Books has a great review of NYT Bestselling book, Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25. It's the first book from Glenn's new publishing imprint - Mercury Ink. It's A first rate sci-fi thriller that will have everyone in your family begging for their turn to read it. Check out the review HERE.
Odd: MLK's daughter targets Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln is universally considered a key figure in the civil rights movement and is largely considered the driving force in the abolition of slavery. But that's not stopping a new and bizarre line of attack from MLK's daughter, who spoke in DC on the anniversary of the "I Have Dream" speech. Glenn has the audio of the speech and reaction on radio today.
