Israel's 'Media Watch' Explains the Media's 'Anti-Beck Crusade'
"How dumb can the liberal-Left media be?"
The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on August 26, 2011 at 7:20am
Glenn Beck's Restoring Courage was not only monumental, it was beautiful. The multi-night event encouraged people to stand with courage for Israel. That message was simple. But despite a seemingly non-controversial message, why has the media scoffed at the idea? Eli Pollak and Yisrael Medad, two Israelis who run a Jewish watchdog organization called Media Watch, have a theory: "The media, it has been asserted, are the main ally of the liberal-progressive elite."
In an op-ed for the Jerusalem Post ("Media Comment: The anti-Beck crusade"), the two quote Thomas Sowell, describing how the leftist media uses tools such as "the denigration and even demonizing" of persons "who present evidence that can be used in contemporary culture wars.... Opponents must be shown to be not merely mistaken but morally lacking."
And that was certainly on display during Beck's time in Israel.
For example, the pair points out how writer Ben Hartman of The Atlantic tried to demonize Beck for recent claims about the driving force behind some Jewish protests - nevermind that the claims had a factual basis:

Obama Executive Order Creates 'Office of Diversity and Inclusion'
The Blaze | by Buck Sexton | Posted on August 25, 2011 at 1:50pm
In yet another expansion of government through Executive Order, the Obama administration has created an Office of Diversity and Inclusion to boost minority participation in the federal work force.
Judicial Watch reported on this new government office Wednesday, and stated that the Obama administration's goal is to:
"Eliminate demographic group imbalances in targeted occupations and improve workforce diversity. To attain this, special initiatives have been created targeting specific groups, including Hispanics, African Americans, American Indians, women and gays and lesbians."

We have a little less than one month and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America . If you forward this email to least 11 people and each of those people do the same ... you get the idea. THE PROGRAM: On Sunday, September 11th, 2011, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this tenth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds So, here's what we need you to do . (1) Forward this email. (Please don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you. (2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day. Thank you for your participation. God Bless You and God Bless America !

DAY OF RAGE PLANNED FOR D.C., STATE CAPITOLS and WALL STREET SEPT 17, 2011
This information came out of Idaho, but this is being staged across the entire 50 states! We need to be aware and let others know, especially those that live in the capitals, or have businesses there. If you've seen the riots taking place in Greece, or those in the Middle East, you see a sample of what it looks like they are planning. Let's hope that either few show up, that they stay peaceful, or that the law enforcement agencies are able to thwart it before it occurs....

THESE PHOTOS JUST BECAME DECLASSIFIED - FROM 9/11
The anniversary of 9/11 is coming up. We must never forget what happened and who was responsible. The threat is still with us of more destruction to come. Those radical islamist tell us so all the time. We all seem to dismiss it. We must press our Congress to look into all those who may be amongst us now training and getting ready to launch another attack. We must never allow a mosque to built any where near that sacred ground. Please be at the rally on 9/11 as the Mayor has given approval for the mosque to be built.
We the people must rise up and say NO!

Press Release:
AFDI/SIOA 9/11 Freedom Rally:
Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America
NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.
Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."
AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.
The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.
Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. McCarthy; popular radio host Joyce Kaufman; Darla Dawald, National Director of the Patriot Action Network; James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST); Coptic Christian activist Joseph Nassralla; Iraqi ex-Muslim Paul Gaynos.
Hosting the rally are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.
Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York. Cordoba Initiative board member imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an open proponent of Sharia, Islamic law, a system that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. Given the thousands of triumphal mosques that have been built on the cherished sites of conquered peoples throughout Islamic history, the mosque leaders' claim that this mosque would be understood differently by Muslims worldwide lack foundation.
The Durban III conference follows upon two previous conferences that scapegoated and demonized the state of Israel in service of Islamic jihad and Islamic supremacist interests. The rally will defend Israel against the defamation to which it will be subjected at this conference. It will also call upon the city to remove roadblocks to the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed on 9/11 and since then mired in bureaucratic red tape that has prevented its rebuilding - in stark contrast to the help Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials have given to the Ground Zero Mosque project.
AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

New York Mayor Bloomberg Bans Religion at 9/11 Ceremony
Wednesday, 24 Aug 2011
By Martin Gould
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is under attack for refusing to allow members of the clergy to play a role in the city's commemoration of the tenth anniversary of 9/11. Bloomberg insists the ceremonies should focus on the families of those killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center. He is also barring political speech. But pastors and politicians are lining up to lambast his decision, reports The Wall Street Journal."This is America, and to have a memorial service where there's no prayer, this appears to be insanity to me," said Rudy Washington, a deputy mayor under Bloomberg's predecessor Rudy Giuliani, who organized a nationally televised interfaith ceremony at Yankee Stadium in the days after the 2001 attacks.

TUSIF is proudly taking part in the 9/11: Never Forget Project. We sought the help of a group of student organizations, and we are 10 student organizations strong. We are seeking the support of the President of the University to sponsor a flag memorial. On its own, TUSIF, for Wednesday, September 7th, has arranged for a great singer Elizabeth Salvatico and her impressive band to play a range of songs including both Salsa and of course patriotic songs to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. At the same event, TUSIF is hosting Mr. Bivona to speak; he was a first-responder on September 11.

When: September 7, 2011 - 11PM - 1:30PM
Who: Congressman Allen West
Rep. Allen West (R-FL) will be hosting 9/11 family members along with a screening in Congress a documentary film called, Sacrificed Survivors: The Untold Story of the Ground Zero Mosque, on September 7, 2011. As you know, West has a national following as a rising star in Congress, as he fearlessly takes on Islamists.
Because of his position to host the film, he has of course received a lot of controversy and we anticipate further debate. Here is a short report on his position: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DtqxseRzvI
On FOX News Channel's "The Five," the panelists were discussing the controversy over Rep. Allen West's hosting of Sacrificed Survivors in Congress. Outrageously, one panelist, Bob Beckel, said that New Yorkers had to "get over" 9/11 because "it's affecting the rest of us."

This September 11th is not only the 10th anniversary of 9/11 but a decade of reflection.
Will you come to DC on September 7th to meet with Congressman West?
Congressman West is hosting a private meeting just before the screening with family members. If you are a family member, we may be able to help with your expenses. Many great organizations have come onboard so there will be national media attention about this event. Let's get the attention this important anniversary deserves.

Talk-Radio's Dom Giordano To Receive ZOA's Ben Hecht Award
Shalom ZOA Members, Friends and Supporters of Israel,
Tickets are now available for Philadelphia ZOA's First Tribute Gala on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at the Hilton Philadelphia on City Avenue, as we honor talk-radio giant Dom Giordano and beloved Rabbi Fred Kazan.
Do not miss what will be a memorable event locally for the pro-Israel community in our area.
Jewish community pillar Gary Erlbaum will be master of ceremonies as we honor Dom with the Ben Hecht Award for Outstanding Journalism for his honest and forthright support of Israel, and Rabbi Kazan for his lifelong devotion to the Jewish State of Israel with our Guardian of Israel Award. Jonathan Tobin of Commentary and former executive editor of the Jewish Exponent will be guest speaker, and there will be remarks from our own great ZOA National President Morton Klein.
Of course, there will also be delicious glatt-kosher food, a festive and warm evening and the opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate Israel.
Philadelphia ZOA has set up a special ticket hotline so that you can be a part of this evening. Call 215-333-1729 to order tickets, or contact us by email at a special email address: zoadom@yahoo.com . Or if you would like, a copy of the invitation and response card is attached to this email. Simply print it out and return it to: ZOA-GPD, P.O. Box 45604, Phila., PA 19149.
There is no one else in local media who matches Dom when it comes to standing up for Israel, patriotism and integrity. Dom has taken on guests and callers on 1210 AM WPHT Radio who distort the facts about Israel, and he goes out of his way to speak truthfully about the Arab war against the Jews because it is the right thing to do.
Rabbi Kazan has been a fervent champion of Israel and has inspired generations of local Jews to have a place in their heart for the Jewish State. Whether it be currently at Historic Congregation Kesher Israel where he is religious leader, or Temple Adath Israel where he is Rabbi Emeritus, or at Beth Sholom where he served, or during his tours of Jewish Philadelphia he leads, he has been a proponent for Israel.
It is the duty of all who care about Israel to thank and show appreciation for stalwarts of Israel as we lest not take such support for granted. In our area, we must come out to publicly thank Dom Giordano and Rabbi Kazan.
We look forward to seeing you the evening of Sept. 8.

Please come to our Constitution Day event entitled "Everything you wanted to know about ObamaCare, but didn't know who to ask."
They said we had to pass it to know what's in it, but over a year later, people STILL don't fully understand how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) - aka "ObamaCare" - will affect them and their health.
That's why a coalition of citizens and health care professionals will present "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About ObamaCare But Didn't Know Who to Ask" on the campus of DeSales University in Center Valley, PA from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 - which, ironically, happens to be Constitution Day. DeSalesUniversity is located in the Lehigh Valley of PA, within easy driving distance of the major population centers of central, northeast, and southeast PA.
Policy professionals, physicians, business and legislative leaders, and representatives from groups most affected by the PPACA will share their insights and expertise through presentations, breakout sessions, exhibits, and panel discussions.
They'll explain how ObamaCare affects personal liberty and the Constitution, families and seniors, taxpayers, Medicare and the deficit, insurance premiums and the uninsured, businesses, employees and the economy, doctors, patients, and access to care, American innovation in medicine, and more.
Also included will be detailed updates on state and national efforts to defund, repeal, replace, and nullify ObamaCare from some of the legislative leaders spearheading those efforts.
Participants will leave the three hour event far more informed about what's in the PPACA than most of the legislators who voted for it, and will be energized to get involved in the fight to save America's health care. Participants, both live and online, will be empowered by their new understanding of how the PPACA will not accomplish any of the things its name implies, and will be able to effectively communicate that new understanding to others, providing important education about why this ill-conceived piece of legislation needs to be defeated by any means possible.
Already, according to Rasmussen's most recent poll, 54% of Americans want to see ObamaCare repealed, while only 39% oppose repeal - but the people who passed it clearly have not heard the voices of the American people yet. The more Americans know about the PPACA, the more they dislike it, and this conference will help to provide the tools citizen advocates and health care professionals need to effectively participate in the process to defund, repeal, and replace ObamaCare.
The event will be free to the public on site in a venue which will seat 500, and a live streaming video, and a professionally produced program will promote information about our coalition's sponsoring groups, as well as providing important information about the PPACA.
Please consider joining with the Lehigh Valley Coalition for Health Care Reform to help educate the public about ObamaCare through your sponsorship of this important event. If you'd like to be involved, please contact me ASAP and I'll reserve your space in our program and on the promotional materials. We are currently working on creating a web page and Facebook page for the event.

RedState Morning Briefing
For August 26, 2011
1. DOJ Raids Gibson Guitars looking for Illegal Wood
The Department of Justice is under fire for taking the bold step of sending armed agents into the factories of Gibson Guitar in Nashville and Memphis to seize what it believes to be illegal wood.
Via press release from Gibson:
"The Federal Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. has suggested that the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal, not because of U.S. law, but because it is the Justice Department's interpretation of a law in India. (If the same wood from the same tree was finished by Indian workers, the material would be legal.) This action was taken without the support and consent of the government in India."
Unbelievably enough, this was not the first time that the Gibson factories have been raided for this same reason.
2. The Horserace for August 25, 2011 Polls suggest it is "put up or shut up" time for Sarah Palin on whether she'll run for President or, if not, assume the role of Kingmaker - and her endorsement will have power. Rick Perry has vaulted into the lead nationally, but I still have qualms with really calling him the front runner. Michele Bachmann is fading. Jon Huntsman is beclowning himself. And then there are the hangers on. We'll get into it all in this week's horserace. 3. Obama's Job-Killing NLRB Strikes Again! ALL Employers Must Post Union Notices When the National Association of Manufacturers polled around 1,000 of its members in July about the National Labor Relations Board's case to shut down Boeing's South Carolina plant, costing up to 5,000 potential jobs, the clear majority indicated the union-backed case likely will, or has already, had a negative effect on America's job creation. . . . Despite this, however, Barack Obama's union appointees at the National Labor Relations Board are continuing their assault on America's job creators with yet another attempt at doing union bosses' bidding by skirting Congress to require all employers covered by the National Labor Relations Act to post union notices in the workplace to advise employees of their ability to unionize their company. 4. Heritage Action's Legislative Scorecard Well, the first comprehensive conservative report card of Congress is out, and we can now determine which members of the "Tea Party Congress" drink a hardcore brew. Today, Heritage Action for America released their legislative scorecard for the pre-recess 1st session of the 112th Congress. Unlike most other scorecards, this one was designed to separate the men from the boys. Most traditional scorecards, and most prominently, the ACU annual report, tend to focus primarily on those votes which fundamentally divide the two parties. They fail to probe some of the more courageous conservative votes against party leadership. To that end, any Republican who is even minimally conservative is expected to score at or near 100%. After all, at a minimum, any Republican should oppose Obamacare, vote down tax increases, and support the Republican annual budget. This is how the likes of McCain, Graham, and Chambliss have been able to achieve stellar scores. Except for those like Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Dick Lugar, most Republicans will vote with their party on the final roll call of major bills. In fact, anyone who is not on the list of 100% is someone who has voted with the Democrats in contravention to fundamental Republican values. A perfect ACU score should be the floor, not the ceiling, for a conservative voting record. The Heritage Action scorecard digs much deeper.

Conservative party trick:
Next time you're out drinking with a liberal-presuming you can bear to do such a thing-casually reach for his wallet and help yourself to a few bucks. When he complains, look at him in puzzlement: "But surely you don't believe in property, do you? Anyway, I'm just spreading the wealth around."

More Bad News for the Obama Economy
Americans' confidence in the economy is sitting at its lowest point since March 2009, and in every state in the country, a vast majority of Americans see the economy as getting worse. Meanwhile, the number of people claiming new jobless benefits rose again last week. Under those circumstances, it's no wonder the White House is doing everything it can to make even the most dismal economic news seem like a silver lining on a very dark cloud.

Comment by Ted Belman Glen Beck gave a blockbuster of a speech on Wednesday in Jerusalem against the backdrop of the southern wall of the Old City. He talked about faith, truth, responsibility and courage. He said he had nothing to say to Israel about courage but that he and the world had a lot to learn from Israelis about courage. He excoriated the UN and the Human Rights advocates for calling good, evil and for ignoring true evil. He said "Human rights was once a cry for justice. Now it's used as a threat." Beautifully said. It's not that many advocates for Israel haven't been complaining about the same thing for years. They have. But to have a man with such a huge megaphone say the things that the Whitehouse, the E.U. and the U.N. never say was very uplifting. Beck speaks truth to power. He praised the Jewish people for teaching mankind that "every individual life has dignity, that every life is sacred". Beck entreated people to take... Read the whole entry »

In my opinion, Beck should not be wading into Israeli politics. Its OK to support Netanyahu or to support keeping J&S but it is not OK to get into the protests. "The 200,000 people on the streets of Tel Aviv are demanding change in Tel Aviv and standing against Benjamin Netanyahu, who are these people?," Beck wondered on his radio show last week. Burguiere based this claim on the protesters' list of demands from the government, and mocked such demands as those for enshrining the right to housing in the law. In actual fact Beck is attacked by some in the religious right and by the liberal left but for different reasons. The former distrust Beck's motivation in being nice. Many support this position because there is no sign that the evangelicals are about to abandon their attempts to convert us. They have adopted the approach of loving us to death. From my point of view, their support has many reasons. But they include that supporting Israel is the right thing to do and they believe, that so goes Israel, so goes the U.S. They support Israel politically and in particular support our right to keep Judea and Samaria. I am happy to have that support even though some evangelicals are hell bent on converting us. They think they are saving us or completing us by trying to convert us whereas we take their efforts, at best, as a sign of disrespect. ... Visiting US Lawmakers Show Solidarity
As noted in this space last week, this August has witnessed the largest ever volume of travel to Israel by members of Congress. As Israel confronted the consequences of regional instability this week, visiting GOP leaders voiced solidarity with our embattled ally.
Meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor underlined his determination to revisit US aid to the Palestinian Authority if the push for a unilateral declaration of statehood at the UN goes forward:
Cantor voiced the most strenuous objections to the recognition of the Palestinian Authority as a state at the United Nations. He also warned that if the Palestinians realized their objective, their funding will be in jeopardy. "It essentially obviates all agreements of the past" said Cantor who also expressed his serious objection to the Palestinian Authority alliance with Hamas.

House State/Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-TX) offered a stern warning to Egypt's present and future rulers: The continuation of American aid depends on peaceful conduct toward Israel:
"As an appropriator I have two concerns: One thing is the continuing relationship between Egypt and Israel, and the other thing of course is what government we will be dealing with in Egypt, and what position the Muslim Brotherhood will play in this government."

In the immediate aftermath of the bloody terrorist attacks that took the lives of eight Israelis in the Eilat region, I wrote on Thursday the incident illustrated the pitfalls of allowing a Hamas terror state to be situated on Israel's doorstep. The decision of the Hamas regime in Gaza to launch a barrage of approximately 100 missiles at southern Israel since then has made that danger all the more palpable. Though Jerusalem hopes it can avoid a further escalation (such as the commitment of ground troops), recent events call into question its ability to deter further attacks.
The mainstream media has reported these attacks and even the assaults on Eilat and Israel's counter-attacks against the bases in Gaza from which the terrorists set forth as if they were just another episode in the so-called "cycle of violence" between Arabs and Jews. But these latest incidents bring into focus the futility of an American Middle East policy whose sole focus has been to pressure Israel to accommodate Palestinian ambitions. The Palestinian state that already exists in Gaza is a loaded gun pointed at Israel's head every moment. Its leaders also seem to believe the price of another Israeli counter-offensive such as the one that took place in December 2008 is too fraught with danger - both in terms of the loss of Israeli life and the international opprobrium that it would incur no matter how careful its troops were in seeking to avoid civilian casualties - for Netanyahu to consider measures that might truly threaten them.

Facing facts on O's Syria miscues
By JOHN BOLTON

The end of the Khadafy regime in Libya has focused new attention on the rebels in Syria -- as has last week's belated call by President Obama for the ouster of Bashar al-Assad. But it will take a more radical Obama course correction to make a real difference. After six months of bloodshed, with thousands dead, and only mild White House responses earlier, this belated pronouncement is likely too little too late.
At the very least, the administration needs to recognize the false premises behind its mistakes..

"Unmasking the Enemy Among Us" By Brigitte Gabriel, Founder and President, ACT! for America
"The enemy among us" is the Muslim Brotherhood. For years, the Muslim Brotherhood, through its many front organizations in the U.S., has engaged in what it calls "civilization jihad," an influential campaign of information warfare designed to deceive and co-opt elected officials, law enforcement officials, academics, and the media. I can't begin to tell you the stories of how successful this information warfare has been. Stories that include people losing their jobs, even at the Pentagon, because they dared to tell the truth about radical Islam. Or how leaders from a handful of Muslim Brotherhood front organizations, organizations named as unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism trial, are advising President Obama on Middle Eastern affairs. America is beginning to wake up to the threat of sharia law. Now America must wake up to the threat of the Muslim Brotherhood. This is why ACT! for America has designed a resource-rich "tool kit" to help you understand the in's and out's of the Muslim Brotherhood threat, AND give you the tools to educate your friends and family.
We call this new resource "Unmasking the Enemy Among Us: Information Warfare and the Muslim Brotherhood."
We have never made such a resource on the Muslim Brotherhood available before. Today, we are offering it to those who choose to become a Patriot Partner to ACT! for America, making a monthly gift of only $19. Simply log on here, choose the Patriot Partner option, and select the $19 gift level.
|
The first 400 people who respond to this offer will not only receive the invaluable resources described below, they'll also receive a bonus-an autographed copy of my best-selling book They Must Be Stopped-as an extra "thank you" from me for your support.
|
In this one-of-a-kind "tool kit" you will find:
|
·
|
A DVD containing two powerful and informative presentations.
The first, "Connect the Dots: Information Warfare 101," is a Power Point presentation featuring ACT! for America Executive Director Guy Rodgers. As those who have attended our conferences or other public events know, Guy is a very engaging speaker who is well-versed in the connections between the ideology of radical Islam, information warfare, and terrorism.
Here's a two minute clip from Guy's presentation.
The second is entitled "The Outlawed Brief."
This Power Point presentation is conducted by former FBI counter-terrorism expert John Guandolo. John was a featured speaker at our 2011 National Conference and Legislative Briefing, and many attendees told our staff their only complaint was that John didn't have two hours instead of one! John is one of America's leading experts on the Muslim Brotherhood, and even if you are already knowledgeable in this area, I guarantee there will be new information for you in this presentation.
Here's a two minute clip from John's presentation.
Never before have these two presentations been made available together on a DVD. I can assure you, what you will learn from these two presentations, and what you can share with others, will be invaluable.
| |
·
|
We also include in this kit the English translation of the Muslim Brotherhood's "Explanatory Memorandum," the document that calls for "civilization Jihad" against America which was entered into evidence at the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial.
| |
·
|
But that's not all. The kit also includes "Sharia Law for Non-Muslims," an invaluable booklet that breaks down sharia law by topic areas for easy use.
|
These three resources will educate and empower you and awaken and enlighten your friends and family. But there's more. You'll also receive two of our brand-new bumper stickers-and for the first four hundred people who respond to this offer, we'll throw in an autographed copy of my bestselling book They Must Be Stopped. All we ask is that you become a Patriot Partner and make an online, monthly commitment of $19. Simply log on, select the Patriot Partner option, and select the $19 monthly gift level. This is only 63 cents a day-less than a cup of coffee at a convenience store like 7-11.
|
If you're already a Patriot Partner, simply increase your monthly commitment by $15 or more. Log on here; select the Patriot Partner option; click on the "I would like to update an existing recurring gift" option; at the lower right of the page enter the new amount you will give each month, which will equal your current monthly gift plus an additional $15 or more, and put "Muslim Brotherhood resource" in the "Memo" box.
|
Patriot Partners are the financial backbone of ACT! for America. Our growth and our increasing number of successes are due in large part to our faithful monthly contributing Patriot Partners. The fact is, we wouldn't be where we are without our Patriot Partners. They are that important. That's why I'm asking you to join us as a Patriot Partner today. As our thank you, we will ship you our new, never-before-released resource, "Unmasking the Enemy Among Us: Information Warfare and The Muslim Brotherhood." The Muslim Brotherhood, and its many front organizations such as CAIR, ISNA, and the MSA, don't want you to have this "tool kit." They want to keep as many Americans ignorant as possible, while they continue their stealth jihad and information warfare aimed at co-opting political, law enforcement, media and academic leaders. We have spent months putting this package together so you can have an information-packed resource that is compelling, engaging and easy to use. If you've ever wanted to learn more about information warfare and the Muslim Brotherhood, or wanted a resource to enlighten others, this is for you! I hope that you take advantage of this offer and become one of our valued Patriot Partners today! Thank you. Always devoted, Brigitte Gabriel

Declaration of Rights & Responsibilities
Declaration of Rights & Responsibilities
As the American Declaration of Independence clearly states, when in the course of human events it becomes necessary for people to band together and collectively declare their rights and responsibilities to which the laws of nature and nature's God entitle and bind them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should disclose the causes which impel them to such.
Therefore let us declare that we still hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But with those rights come responsibilities.
In order to continually experience life, liberty and happiness as promised, nature's God demands obedience to His law to protect those rights. This is where we have fallen short and therefore, in order not to lose the blessings of freedom, the people of the world must turn from the sole focus on rights, and recognize the inherent and required responsibilities that we have.
Among the responsibilities to which we must adhere to maintain our God given rights are honor, courage and vigilance.
Over time, we believe that these basic human responsibilities have been trampled, and replaced with degradation, fear and apathy.

Fight Back Against Our "Domestic" Enemies By Michael Oberndorf, FloydReports.com
|
If I recall correctly - which I do - the federal oath of office binds employees thus: "I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." I would like to take a look at that word "domestic" as it applies to what has and is occurring in America. As most of you are aware, the fascist and Marxist Left has, over the years, infiltrated and virtually taken over middle and upper management of our government agencies....

Obama Erases the Word "Illegal" By Susan Stamper Brown, FloydReports.com
|
This morning, I double-checked to be sure the word "illegal" was still a word in the dictionary. As of this morning, it still means "criminal, felonious, illegitimate, illicit, lawless, unlawful, and wrongful." However, it is quite obvious, that the longer Progressive Democrats have carte' blanche to do what they want, the closer the word "illegal" gets to becoming extinct. It is difficult to determine who it is this administration is particularly interested in protecting. Law-abiding, hardworking folks who mind their business and turn their attention to providing for their families, seem to fall by the wayside, while the administration focuses on fulfilling President Obama's commitment to "fundamentally transform" America. As our president jets off to Martha's Vineyard on yet another posh family get-away....

Can Obama Buy 2012? By Basil Irwin, CoachIsRight.com
|
A good friend who also happens to be quite conservative recently wrote me repeating the commonly accepted leftist propaganda that "Americans don't want the jobs illegals take." In my opinion, Americans would be quite happy with a lot of those jobs were their wages not artificially depressed by an unlimited supply of illegal foreign labor. I could easily see a large number of currently unemployed American youngsters being quite happy to receive $20 an hour to work in the fields and packing houses, assuming they received no food stamps, no unlimited unemployment benefits, no welfare, no Section 8 housing, no free cell phones, and no "free" medical care. If they actually had to earn everything they spent, they would be quite....

Political Messiahs in Tailored Suits Let's not pretend that the right is any more immune to leader worship and cults of personality than the zombie hordes on the left. The cult of personality as a means of power predates political orientation, it dates back to the first men who understood that leadership is not about doing what the tribe wants, but about elevating yourself above the tribe. Reasoned political involvement is about fixing toilets. When your toilet is broken, you look through the listings, find a plumber who seems to have a good track record, look at his rates and decide if you want to bring him in to do the job. Leader worship is about ignoring the broken toilet and reveling in the greatness of the plumber who doesn't actually fix your toilet, but spends hours talking tough about fixing all the toilets or movingly about the broken toilet inside each and every one of us. To worship a leader you must first turn off the discriminating part of your brain, the one that is able to spot flaws and think critically about a subject. The one that notices the toilets still aren't fixed. The one that questions his toilet fixing track record. You must fall in love. People fall in love with leaders all the time. And they do it for the same reason that they fall in love with members of the opposite sex. Completion. Love bypasses the messier questions of life and gives us an immediate solution in the form of a man or woman. The one who fix everything wrong in our lives by just being there. Read more: |

GERMAN-ISRAELI TIES
By: Joseph Puder
The nation that perpetrated the Holocaust is now Israel's best friend in Europe.
The looming Palestinian Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) that is expected to occur in the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly this September, has sent the Israeli Foreign Ministry diplomats into high gear in the hopes of offsetting the Palestinian initiative, and having the Ramallah-based Palestinians led by Mahmud Abbas return to the negotiating table. In its efforts to curtail the Palestinian move, Israel has expended a great deal of energy on Germany - its most important ally in the European Union.
According to the Polish Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW) in Warsaw, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle (FDP) and Dirk Niebel (FDP), the German Minister of Development Corporation traveled to Benghazi, one of the towns controlled by Libyan rebel forces on June 13-14, 2011, and then went on to Israel and the Palestinian territories. Germany, as reported by the OSW, "Is trying to negotiate the question of the proclamation of Palestine's independence between Israel and the Palestinians. It is interested in the proclamation not being unilateral and being based on a compromise negotiated with Israel." The main target of the visit, according to the OSW was Israel, and preventing the Palestinians from proclaiming a Unilateral Declaration of Independence. At the U.N. General Assembly, the Palestinians intend to request recognition of their state comprising East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. If the vote was held today, approximately 100 countries would recognize Palestine's independence. This would be not only the 'traditional anti-Israel majority' but probably also Spain, Ireland, Norway, France and the UK.
Talks between Israel and the Palestinians broke up in September 2010, when the Palestinians walked out and have not resumed since. The ostensible reason for the Palestinians walk out has been that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, did not extend the building freeze on West Bank settlements. The real reason is however the Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmud Abbas' attempt to exact further concessions from Israel through the threat of the Unilateral Declaration of Independence, and ultimately the unwillingness of the Palestinian leaders to live with the permanent reality of a Jewish State.
Germany fears that Palestine will be another block in the domino effect of the Arab revolutions. In the worst-case scenario this could end - in Germany's opinion - in another armed conflict. Germany, unlike Britain and France has not threatened Israel with voting for the UDI.
German-Israeli ties have a special dimension to it - not the least of which is the shared history of the most horrific crime in modern time - the Holocaust - which was perpetrated by the Germans on the Jewish People. The Germans have, for the most part, striven to regain a measure of moral legitimacy in the aftermath of the Holocaust by working to insure that it remains true to protecting the remnant of the Jewish people, albeit not through military force but diplomacy.
In accepting the credentials of the new German ambassador to Israel, Andreas Michaelis, Israel's President Shimon Peres declared during the official ceremony in Jerusalem: "The relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and Israel are very special, very close and very meaningful. It is not the usual diplomatic relations, it is a long memory, many emotions and many hopes all combined." Peres added, "I have the highest regard for (German) President Wulff. His attitude to Israel is warm, friendly and sincere and we appreciate it very much. We have much admiration for Chancellor Merkel who possesses something very rare in politics, namely the confidence in her honesty, devotion, and seriousness, and we are lucky to have her as a friend." In response, newly installed Ambassador Michaelis said, "It is my objective to preserve the special quality of the relationship between the Federal Republic of Germany and the state of Israel, and also to work towards peace in the region. The Chancellor has very clearly stated that right of the Jewish State to exist is the raison d'źtre of the Federal Republic of Germany. As head of the mission here, I will try my best to make that a reality on a daily basis."
Michaelis pointed out in an interview with the Israeli daily Maariv (8/18/2011) that "Germany will continue its commitment to protect Israel's security in every conceivable arena." Asked whether the deadlocked Peace Process has impacted on the special relations between Germany and Israel, Michaelis rejected the idea, stating that the relations between Germany and Israel are complicated as a result of the Holocaust. Still, he said, "two things are changing in front of our eyes. The moral authority of the Holocaust survivors is diminishing as they die out, and the question is how we retain the memory of the Holocaust without the living survivors. Second, he added, Germany too is changing. Germany has a great number of immigrants, and many of them are Muslims, but they are German too, and the operative question is how do they remember the Holocaust?"
Michaelis explained that, "At times there are situations whereby a variety of groups in Germany are critical of Israel on the peace process and Germany's relations with Israel. At such times it is particularly important for Germans to hear a clear response from our government. Chancellor Merkel rejects such criticism in a clear voice, and states unambiguously that the relationship with Israel is special, and that Germany continues to care about Israel's security, as part of our historical responsibility of Germany towards Israel."
Germany today has become very involved in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process; in contrast to the role it played 20-years ago during the Oslo Agreements when Germany was not considered a major player. Michaelis pointed out that, "Israel is situated in a dangerous region, and we believe that things would get even more dangerous for Israel if we will fail to solve some of the central problems in the region, one of which is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
According to Michaelis, just about every politician in Germany would agree that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must be solved by political means. He charges that there is no time to waste, and that efforts must be invested in the right instruments of negotiations. That is why Chancellor Merkel was the first European leader to announce the rejection of the Palestinian Unilateral Declaration of Independence.
Michaelis said that "Germany succeeded to advance a position at the EU that prefers the two sides (Israel and the Palestinians) return to negotiations. At the moment the EU does not have a unified position on how to vote in September. But we have a common stance for the return of the parties to the negotiating table, and many of us are working on a formula that would make it possible."
While the German government has been Israel's primary ally in Europe, it is essential to note that German corporations are involved in trade with Iran, and that for many Germans guilt over the Holocaust is largely gone, and while acts of anti-Semitism are combated by the government, it is, nonetheless, a growing phenomenon. All things aside, in today's Europe, Germany is the only EU member to stand with Israel on rejecting the Palestinian UDI.

Thursday, August 25, 2011 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Jobless Claims Up Again Weekly claims for jobless benefits rose yet again last week, to 417,000. Economists had predicted an increase to 405,000. In addition, there was a separate report this week from the Labor Department finding that youth employment is at its lowest level in decades. These numbers underscore the continued weakness in the economy and the anxiety felt in homes across America as jobs and the economy remain voters' top concern. I'm not surprised to read today that House Republicans are increasingly worried about how the economy may affect them next year. President Obama is scheduled to deliver a major address on jobs soon. There are reports today that the president is considering a wide range of options -- from retrofitting schools to a massive refinancing of government-backed mortgages. Obama and his strategists know that if the economy doesn't turn around quickly, the voters are likely to evict him from the White House. The economy was weak in 2008 but when Democrats had total control of Washington in 2009 and 2010, they made things worse. Their trillion-dollar stimulus bill wasted money on liberal boondoggles. They passed a socialized medicine scheme packed full of tax increases, and tried to pass a massive new energy tax on top of that. And while Obama's regulatory regime has run roughshod over our entrepreneurs and small business owners, Obama keeps vowing to raise their taxes. None of this is helping. Yet since Republicans took over the House, fights over spending and the budget have dominated the headlines. It would be a mistake to say that voters don't care about deficits and spending. But our staff has reviewed months of polling data on voters' priorities, and by a 2-to-1 margin the economy and jobs outpolled the deficit and spending as the top priority. I want to encourage our conservative friends in Congress to refocus their efforts and frame every issue in the context of jobs and the economy. While controlling spending is critical, creating jobs and growing the economy is even more important, not just to the voters, but also as the solution to our fiscal crisis. We need to avoid the trap of sounding like a party of bean counters, while continuing to offer solid, pro-growth solutions that will benefit small businesses and families. I know John Boehner and House Republicans get it. (Click here to learn more.) They have passed numerous pro-growth bills, which are languishing in Harry Reid's Senate. Unfortunately, most Americans have no idea what House Republicans have done. The left-wing media certainly have no interest in telling them. Conservative activists at the grassroots level can help by sharing these reports with their friends and family members. In coming days, President Obama will try to seize the issue as his own, and he will try to blame congressional Republicans for the bad economy. But America can't afford four more years of Barack Obama. The results of the past two and a half years speak for themselves. Obama's Regulatory Regime Earlier this week I reported on the burgeoning regulatory regime that Obama has unleashed on job creators. Here are a few more outrageous examples:
- The EPA is for the first time requiring thousands of businesses to report their greenhouse gas emissions. Not surprisingly, the process is complicated. So the EPA produced a series of FAQs or "frequently asked questions" to help out. But thanks to the bureaucratic nightmare that is the EPA the FAQ list is nearly 400 questions long!
- To give you an idea of just how intrusive Obama's regulatory regime has become, consider these new regulations for goat herders. This is proof-positive that we have too many bureaucrats with too little to do.
- Rep. Doc Hastings, chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, is warning that bureaucratic red tape is putting a key supply of domestic energy and, thus, our national security, at great risk. To remain not just economically viable, but also physically viable, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline must maintain a certain volume of oil flowing through the pipeline. Oil production at existing fields has been declining for some time, yet virtually every attempt to open new areas to drilling has been blocked. Hastings has introduced legislation to allow more drilling, which would save the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and create thousands of new jobs.
Good News! Monday I told you about Jerry Buell, a "teacher of the year" in Mount Dora, Florida, who was suspended from his job due to his support for traditional marriage. I'm pleased to report that the local school board has voted to reinstate Buell, finding that he did not violate the code of ethics. However, at least one media report indicates that Buell is still under investigation. The superintendent of schools gave Buell "a list of directives he needs to follow," and officials are reportedly combing through school web pages and his class syllabus. All because he dared to express his opinion on marriage. Welcome to the brave new world of left-wing "tolerance."

ABC News Discourages the Wearing of American Flag Pins by Reporters-True!
| |
| Summary of eRumor: A boycott of the ABC television network is encouraged because the executives at ABC news are said to have told reporters they could not wear American flag lapel pins or any other patriotic insignia. The network said that ABC should remain as neutral as possible. |
|
| |
| The Truth: The terrorist attacks on America of September 11, 2001 resulted in a wave of patriotism that had not been seen in decades. The shared enthusiasm for the country and the flag were strong and widespread.
It created difficulties for reporters, however, who try to professionally earn and keep people's trust by avoiding personal partisan displays while reporting the news.
It was not only ABC but many other media outlets who struggled with trying to preserve their image as journalists while at the same time trying to avoid seeming unpatriotic in the crisis.
Associated Press writer David Bauder quoted Barbara Walters as saying that ABC discouraged its reporters from wearing the flag because "...it may confuse the audience." She was also quoted as saying that there was concern whether someone who decided not to wear a flag in the midst of all the others might be viewed as less patriotic.

American kids go hungry
49% of children born on WIC
In high school, Katherine Foronda trained herself not to feel hungry until after the school day had ended. She wasn't watching her weight or worrying about boys seeing her eat. She just didn't have any food to eat or any money to buy it.
"I thought, if I wasn't hungry during class I'd be able to actually focus on what we were learning,'' said Foronda, now 19.

Black dem faces tough race for Miss governor
Writer only sees black and white
After making history this week as the first black candidate to win a major-party nomination for Mississippi governor, Democrat Johnny DuPree now faces the tough reality of trying to win a general election against a better-known, better-funded GOP candidate in a strongly Republican state.
DuPree, the mayor of Mississippi's third-largest city, Hattiesburg, said he's not daunted because he has usually been outspent in campaigns. He said he plans to continue running a race-neutral campaign focused on jobs and education.

Would you donate to Uncle Sam? The government has received $3M in gifts this year
Most libs wouldn't
When billionaire Warren Buffett wrote an opinion article in The New York Times this month that called for higher taxes on the wealthy, his proposal was met with a roar from several conservative pundits, who wondered why Buffett didn't just donate his billions to the government.
"If the government's purposes are so vital, why doesn't he simply give the money to the IRS?" an editorial in the Wall Street Journal asked. "If he's worried about being undertaxed, we'd suggest he simply write a big check to Uncle Sam and go back to his day job of picking investments."

Labor chief: Obama needs to focus on job growth, not cutting deficit
AFLO-CIO doesn't give a damn
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said Thursday that President Obama needs to do what is necessary to boost the struggling economy and not give into Republican demands to cut government spending.
Speaking to reporters at a breakfast hosted by The Christian Science Monitor, Trumka said Washington's obsession with the national deficit could lead to a second recession. The White House needs to consider substantial measures to fix the lagging job market and not fall into a Republican-laid trap of focusing solely on paring down the nation's debt, he said.

Beware the Tea Party, Jesse Jackson, Frederica Wilson and black democrats say at jobs meeting
Jackson compares us to pro-slavery activists
Democratic members of the Congressional Black Caucus are in Miami Tuesday to host a jobs fair, part of their five-city tour to draw attention to high unemployment, particularly in the black community.
But at a town-hall style meeting the members held Monday night, some of the most heated talk centered not on jobs but on the tea party.

AFL-CIO seeks to boost clout with super PAC
Let's see what kind of people they support
The AFL-CIO hopes to boost its clout by launching a new political action committee that could raise unlimited amounts of money, part of the federation's goal of building a year-round political organizing structure.
Forming a so-called "super labor PAC" would allow the labor federation to raise money from sympathetic donors both inside and outside union membership and mobilize support beyond its traditional base, instead of ramping up political activities each election cycle.

CBO projects unemployment above 8 percent until 2014
Obama promised this would never happen
Economic growth in the United States is expected to remain weak for several years and unemployment will likely stay above 8 percent for another three years, the head of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.
In a blog post accompanying the agency's latest estimates of the U.S. budget situation, CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf said the economy could be in for a prolonged downturn, exacerbated by recent turmoil in financial markets.

The Downward Spiral
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published August 24, 2011 on The American Spectator website. Accelerating downward spiral. That is what I have been predicting for the Obama Administration for over two years. And now it's happening. Events are spinning out of control. Rising inflation is restricting the Fed's options for keeping the economy high on monetary stimulus crack. The result? Fast developing market chaos. On account of President Obama's economic policies, the economy never recovered from the last recession. Now it may go back into full scale recession before any recovery occurs. We may soon be living through a reenactment of the 1930s, not the 1970s. If we do not change course, there will be a double dip recession by 2013, directly caused by the economic policies Obama already has in place under current law. And now we have riots in Obama's Amerika, kept quiet by the media, echoing the violence in London.

Legal Obedience
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published August 24, 2011 on Townhall.com. What laws are we morally obligated to obey? Help with the answer can be found in "Economic Liberty and the Constitution," a 66-page pamphlet by Jacob G. Hornberger, founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation. Hornberger offers a hypothetical whereby Congress enacts a compulsory church attendance law that requires children to attend church service each Sunday. Parents are penalized if their children fail to comply. Would there be any moral or constitutional legitimacy to such a congressional mandate? The law would be a clear violation of one's natural, or God-given, rights to life and liberty. As to whether it would be constitutional, we have to see whether mandating church attendance is one of those enumerated powers of Congress found in Article 1, Section 8 of our Constitution. We'd find no such authority. Our anti-federalist Founding Fathers didn't trust Congress with religious liberty, so they sought to protect it with the First Amendment to explicitly deny Congress the power to mandate religious conduct. Suppose there's widespread popular support for a church-going mandate and the U.S. Supreme Court rules it constitutional; do Americans have a moral obligation to obey the law?

Liberal 'Gospel' Exalts Government
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published August 22, 2011 in The Washington Times. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend has done us a wonderful service with her Aug. 15 article in the Atlantic, "Is Rick Perry as Christian as He Thinks He Is?" It's a masterpiece of liberal misuse of the Bible, which will become more frequent as the campaign heats up. First, only God and Texas Gov. Perry know what Mr. Perry thinks of his own faith. I doubt that either has shared that knowledge with Mrs. Townsend or her editors. Maryland's Democratic lieutenant governor from 1995 to 2003, Mrs. Townsend starkly makes the case that being Christian means using other people's tax dollars to help the poor. She penned this in reaction to Mr. Perry's prayer rally in Houston on Aug. 6. Mrs. Townsend agrees with the atheist Freedom From Religion Foundation, which unsuccessfully sued to halt the event.

Pundits Peddle Civility Sophistry
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Jan LaRue was published August 22, 2011 on the American Thinker website. Americans are angry because our country is being destroyed by the current administration's destructive policies. The country is on a course like the Titanic, and Beltway bobble heads appear more concerned that candidates won't "sound presidential" if they call out Obama's iceberg policies and personnel. It's a wonder the Republic survived the ferociously raucous election battle of 1800 without a "conservative" political chattering class standing athwart history yelling for garden party civility. By today's civility "standards," Alexander Hamilton failed to "sound presidential" when he attacked John Adams' "unfitness for the station of Chief Magistrate." Adams flunked when he called Hamilton "the bastard brat of a Scotch pedlar." How about Federalists who excoriated "Jefferson as an un-Christian deist whose sympathy for the French Revolution would bring similar bloodshed and chaos to the United States?"

Doing the Same Failed Thing and Expecting a Different Outcome Isn't Conservative, It Is Insane

This is unsurprising, but also really pathetic. "Conservative" elites are unhappy with the Republican field. Bill Kristol pines for a smart guy. Let me put this in perspective for you. The group of "smart" conservatives who were okay to let No Child Left Behind go through, who did little to oppose Medicare Part D, who advocated for TARP, and endorsed the idea of "big government" conservatives are unhappy that the only people running for President right now are actual conservatives.

To the modern Democratic National Committee, the mainstream media and other "progressive" outfits such as the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the words "patriot" and "patriotism" have become synonymous with "right-wing extremism." Education the Last Bastion of Central Planning
|
Republican Candidates Should Push for Real Education Reform By Joy Pullmann CAPoliticalReview.com
In light of his presidential candidacy, several commentators have cast wary glances at Texas Gov. Rick Perry's record on crony capitalism and its implications for how he and other Republican candidates will approach education policy. Jay Greene commented on Wall Street Journal article outlining the crony capitalism charge: "The real problem is the hubris of thinking that a handful of government leaders can identify the 'right' businesses to which capital should be allocated. ... In short, crony capitalism is an example of the errors of central planning." The predilection for central planning has been a hallmark of both Democratic and Republican policy for many decades. The hated No Child Left Behind law serves as a prime example; yet in all the controversy now surrounding the president and his education secretary's decision to waive the law for some states (Montana received the first last week), neither the complaining states nor congressional Republicans planning to reauthorize NCLB under a slightly less centrist strategy seem to have noticed this fatal flaw in federal education policy. NCLB rests on the premise that the federal government should centrally plan education policy. Read the Full Story

August 25, 2011 Culture Watch: Marriage Keeps Love Alive and Hearts Pumping Many a bachelor has taunted and teased a groom-to-be that "I do" will be his famous last words. But for all the jesting predictions about the finality or fatality of marriage, walking down the aisle could be the healthiest thing you do to keep your relationship alive and your heart ticking.
A new study published in the Journal of Health Psychology suggests that when it comes to major heart surgery, marriage can be a good predictor of long-term survival. The study found that married men and women were 250 percent more likely to be alive 15 years after coronary artery bypass surgery than their unmarried counterparts. Marriage had an even greater impact on men's post-op longevity. Fifteen years after bypass surgery, over 80 percent of happily married men's hearts were still beating for the one they loved, while only 36 percent of single men were still living. Even among male patients who rated their marriages poorly, almost two-thirds survived past the 15-year mark.
Greater surgery survival rates aren't the only benefit that comes with giving your heart away in matrimony. In addition to the usual prescriptions of regular exercise and a balanced diet, tying the knot could be one of the most beneficial lifestyle changes you make. Marriage can have a profoundly positive effect on men and women's psychological well-being, stress levels, and drinking and smoking habits. Marriage is even associated with reduced mortality rates.
The benefits of marriage do not stop at the doctor's office door. Married men and women also tend to have better financial health, increased savings, and greater social mobility than unmarried individuals. Perhaps most importantly, lifelong, married love can provide the best environment for raising well-adjusted, successful children.
With its many social, economic, and even health benefits, one need only place a finger on the state of marriage to read the pulse of civil society. Skyrocketing unwed birth rates, no-fault divorce laws, and increasing cohabitation have placed the health of families and society in peril. Fortunately, the same strength of heartstrings that can help pull men and women through surgery can also restore families and build stable, loving homes for the next generation.
Policymakers, especially, have an important role in prescribing remedies for society's faltering view of marriage by promoting the many benefits of matrimony for love, life, and health. Tell us what you think at our blog >>

Podcast: Obamacare and the 11th Circuit Ruling
David Weinberger | August 18, 2011
In this week's Heritage in Focus, experts Nina Owcharenko and Todd Gaziano discuss the recent Obamacare ruling from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, from both a legal and policy angle. Listen here.
Though the decision did not uphold the entirety of Judge Vinson's prior ruling in Florida, conservatives won a victory nonetheless, as the individual mandate was struck down.
However, the question remains: If only the mandate is ultimately ruled unconstitutional, what happens to the rest of Obamacare? Will the law unravel?

For too long, politicians have used conservative rhetoric in public only to turn around and vote the wrong way when they think their constituents are not looking. This has to stop.
Heritage Action for America believes in accountability -- and our new scorecard that grades the votes of every Congressman and Senator is conservative and tough!
>>View the scorecard here
With each vote cast in Congress, freedom either advances or recedes. Heritage Action's scorecard is a comprehensive and revealing barometer of a lawmaker's willingness to fight for conservative policies in Congress.
>>See how your Members of Congress voted
Americans are lucky to have a strong core of rock-solid conservative Congressmen and Senators, but if we are to turn around the economy and save the American dream for our children and grandchildren, more lawmakers must be willing to fight for conservative policies with every single vote.
>>Find out if your Members of Congress are rock-solid conservatives
We will continue to update the scorecard as important votes occur so you will always know how your Members of Congress are representing you. We will also provide the tools to allow you to hold your Members of Congress accountable and ensure they are fighting for freedom.
Thank you for all you do to promote our cause.

Ballots or Bullets?
Ballot Box Barriers to Restoring Constitutional Integrity
"We should be unfaithful to ourselves if we should ever lose sight of the danger to our Liberties if anything partial or extraneous should infect the purity of our free, fair, virtuous, and independent elections. If an election is to be determined by a majority of a single vote, and that can be procured by a party through artifice or corruption, the Government may be the choice of a party for its own ends, not of the nation for the national good." --John Adams, Inaugural Address, 1797
All around us, there are imminent and ominous threats to the future of American Liberty. None, however, is more grave than the demolition of free enterprise by those who would replace it with the authoritarian rule of Democratic Socialism envisioned by Barack Hussein Obama and his leftist comrades.
Rancorous political debate is currently focused on competing solutions for our failing domestic economy and the collapse of our esteemed standing among the nations of the world.

Conservatives, particularly those resolute constitutional constructionists who identify with the much-maligned Tea Party Movement, rightly understand, as did Ronald Reagan, that "government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." That is why we are advocating for the restoration of constitutional limits on the central government.
Conversely, the growing ranks of leftists in Congress, some 80 of whom are openly members of the Socialist Party of America's Congressional Progressive Caucus, led by Reps. Raśl Grijalva (D-AZ) and Keith Ellison (D-MN), subscribe to the notion that government is both the engine and the drive train of our nation's economy.
But if Essential Liberty and Rule of Law as enshrined in our Constitution are to survive, then free enterprise must be their economic engine. At present, however, that engine is attempting to pull an ever more bloated government trailer -- a trailer so overloaded as to bring the economy to a dead stop.
How bloated?
Obama's government programs will amass a $1.3 trillion deficit in fiscal year 2011 alone, some $400 billion more than the paltry $917 billion in savings to which Congress agreed over the next decade under the recent budget deal and corresponding debt-ceiling increase.
This oppressive bloat -- and our elected leaders' utterly inadequate response to it -- will serve as fodder for much of the political debate ahead of the 2012 election. Indeed, the future of Liberty depends on the successful defeat of enough congressional leftists to provide strong conservative majorities in both the House and Senate. Moreover, Liberty hangs in the balance of the upcoming presidential election. While conservatives recaptured the House of Representatives in 2010, the first effective step to restrain Obama's agenda, only a conservative president can begin to undo the damage done to our nation by the Obama regime.
However, do we still have the luxury of political solutions, via elections, to salvage what is left of our Republic? Is the ballot box still a viable method to restore constitutional integrity?
Is the ballot box still an option? Post your opinion
As John Adams once warned, we must be vigilantly on guard against all contagions that would "infect the purity of our free, fair, virtuous, and independent elections."
These contagions, these obstacles, are as follows, roughly in order of threat magnitude: an ignorant electorate; candidates who are unable to articulate the difference between Rule of Law and rule of men; institutionalized dependency on the state, including the fact that 40 percent of Americans pay no federal income tax; forced redistribution of wealth; comfort, complacency and indifference; Leftmedia dezinformatsia; opposition by the leftist elite; and, finally, the conferring of legal status upon illegal immigrants in order to fortify Democrat voter constituencies illegitimately.
The most significant obstacle to restoring liberty by way of the electoral process is the fact that so many Americans know so little about civics or civic responsibility. When it comes to getting government right, ignorance is not bliss.
It follows, then, that there is a dearth of qualified candidates who are able to articulate the difference between Rule of Law and rule of men, who instead get lost in the high weeds of lesser political issues.
A majority of Americans are beneficiaries of some combination of thousands of government schemes to redistribute wealth. The resulting institutionalized dependency on the state is insidious, as it results in reliable votes for whichever party (read: the Democrat Party) can take the most from one group and redistribute it to another. It's no wonder that the most recent Index of Dependence on Government (2010) reports the greatest single-year percentage rise in dependence since 1976.
As Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) recently noted, Obama's "intent is to create dependency because it worked so well for him."
Additionally, 40 percent of Americans pay no federal income taxes. This huge voting bloc thus has no (apparent) stake in our nation's fiscal health, and its voters are thereby motivated to use their ballots to keep the government largess spewing.
As 19th-century political economist Frederic Bastiat noted, "Government is the great fiction through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else."
The forced redistribution of wealth pushed the Cost of Government Day to 12 August this year, which means that the average American tax payer must now work 224 days to fund all taxes, and hidden regulatory taxes, imposed by the central government. That date is 27 days later than in 2008, and it now consumes more than 60 percent of national earned income. There are endless regulatory costs on the horizon, such as Obama's new fuel economy standards which according to a study conducted by the Center for Automotive Research, will increase the average retail price of motor vehicles more than $11,000.
As government takes more, individuals have less to live their lives and to support Liberty advocacy organizations like The Patriot Post.
Of course, comfort, complacency and indifference, particularly among wealthy "Republicans" who contribute little to sustain our legacy of Liberty for our posterity, undermine the potential for sustaining Liberty by way of the ballot box.
In response to such indifference, Samuel Adams advised, "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"
Meanwhile, Leftmedia indoctrination and thriving financial support for wealthy left-elite socialist causes continue to twist public opinion and ensure the success of leftist candidates and policies.
Other obstacles to ballot box solutions? Post your comments
While these are certainly formidable obstacles to the rejection of socialism and successful restoration of constitutional integrity, they are not insurmountable. Still, when generations of Americans have been inculcated with the belief that they are entitled to so much from the state, it may take a generation or more to re-educate them, and to stave off the violence that often erupts when the state fails to meet their expectations as witnessed recently in Greece and England.
The question remains: Are we irrevocably locked into the Cycle of Democracy? Recall that this evolves from bondage to spiritual faith; spiritual faith to great courage; courage to Liberty (Rule of Law); Liberty to abundance; abundance to complacency; complacency to apathy; apathy to dependence; and from dependence back into bondage (rule of men).
At the close of the first American Revolution, George Washington wrote, "No country upon earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings [of Liberty] than United America. Wondrously strange, then, and much to be regretted indeed would it be, were we to neglect the means and to depart from the road which Providence has pointed us to so plainly; I cannot believe it will ever come to pass."
We have already veered from that road. Is there time to use the ballot box to attain a new dawn for Liberty, or are we destined to dependence and bondage, which will require another renewal of faith and courage?

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.
