For Joey Vento, it was about free speech

PhillyBurbs | By J.D. Mullane | Posted: Thursday, August 25, 2011 6:00 am

Joey Vento, it was about free speechJoey Vento's demand that his customers speak English was not about hate, as his critics said. It was a stand for common sense, a defense of the most precious bond that Americans share, a common language, English.
 . . .

"What I'm sayin' is, what if everybody outside here spoke a different language? Oh, you'd have 'diversity,' all right. And this country would destroy itself. We'd tear ourselves apart and not even know what we were sayin' to each other as we did it."

DAY OF RAGE PLANNED FOR D.C., STATE CAPITOLS and WALL STREET SEPT 17, 2011

This information came out of Idaho, but this is being staged across the entire 50 states!  We need to be aware and let others know, especially those that live in the capitals, or have businesses there.  If you've seen the riots taking place in Greece, or those in the Middle East, you see a sample of what it looks like they are planning.  Let's hope that either few show up, that they stay peaceful, or that the law enforcement agencies are able to thwart it before it occurs....

Day of rage

September 17th, 2011 is set to be a Day of Rage. The leftists call this a non-violent event, yet their website, Craigslist ads and Facebook postings include information on how to resist arrest, protest in jail and fight the legal system. The anarchists, Marxists and communists have put together a plan, from start to finish, to takeover America. There will be trouble. The only real question, at this point, is what are the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, the NSA and others going to do to stop this? So far, no one in the media is talking about this insurrection, aside from Glenn Beck who told of it months ago. What will you and your family do to do be safe and save our way of life? It is obvious that the commander in chief has no intention of stopping this coming event, these are, after all, his political base.

THESE PHOTOS JUST BECAME DECLASSIFIED - FROM 9/11

The anniversary of 9/11 is coming up.  We must never forget what happened and who was responsible.  The threat is still with us of more destruction to come.  Those radical islamist tell us so all the time.  We all seem to dismiss it.  We must press our Congress to look into all those who may be amongst us now training and getting ready to launch another attack.  We must never allow a mosque to built any where near that sacred ground.  Please be at the rally on 9/11 as the Mayor has given approval for the mosque to be built.

We the people must rise up and say NO!

Press Release:

AFDI/SIOA 9/11 Freedom Rally:

Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America

NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.

Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."

AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.

The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.

Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. McCarthy; popular radio host Joyce Kaufman; Darla Dawald, National Director of the Patriot Action Network; James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST); Coptic Christian activist Joseph Nassralla; Iraqi ex-Muslim Paul Gaynos.

Hosting the rally are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.

Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York. Cordoba Initiative board member imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an open proponent of Sharia, Islamic law, a system that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. Given the thousands of triumphal mosques that have been built on the cherished sites of conquered peoples throughout Islamic history, the mosque leaders' claim that this mosque would be understood differently by Muslims worldwide lack foundation.

The Durban III conference follows upon two previous conferences that scapegoated and demonized the state of Israel in service of Islamic jihad and Islamic supremacist interests. The rally will defend Israel against the defamation to which it will be subjected at this conference. It will also call upon the city to remove roadblocks to the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed on 9/11 and since then mired in bureaucratic red tape that has prevented its rebuilding - in stark contrast to the help Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials have given to the Ground Zero Mosque project.

AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

TUSIF is proudly taking part in the 9/11: Never Forget Project. We sought the help of a group of student organizations, and we are 10 student organizations strong. We are seeking the support of the President of the University to sponsor a flag memorial. On its own, TUSIF, for Wednesday, September 7th, has arranged for a great singer Elizabeth Salvatico and her impressive band to play a range of songs including both Salsa and of course patriotic songs to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. At the same event, TUSIF is hosting Mr. Bivona to speak; he was a first-responder on September 11.

When:  September 7, 2011 - 11PM - 1:30PM

Who: Congressman Allen West

Rep. Allen West (R-FL) will be hosting 9/11 family members along with a screening in Congress a documentary film called, Sacrificed Survivors: The Untold Story of the Ground Zero Mosque, on September 7, 2011.  As you know, West has a national following as a rising star in Congress, as he fearlessly takes on Islamists.

Because of his position to host the film, he has of course received a lot of controversy and we anticipate further debate.  Here is a short report on his position:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DtqxseRzvI

On FOX News Channel's "The Five," the panelists were discussing the controversy over Rep. Allen West's hosting of Sacrificed Survivors in Congress. Outrageously, one panelist, Bob Beckel, said that New Yorkers had to "get over" 9/11 because "it's affecting the rest of us."

This September 11th is not only the 10th anniversary of 9/11 but a decade of reflection.

Will you come to DC on September 7th to meet with Congressman West?

Congressman West is hosting a private meeting just before the screening with family members. If you are a family member, we may be able to help with your expenses. Many great organizations have come onboard so there will be national media attention about this event.  Let's get the attention this important anniversary deserves.

PLEASE PASS THIS EMAIL AROUND TO OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS!

The screening will be in Room B-339 of the Rayburn Office Building in Washington D.C. and light lunch will be served.

Talk-Radio's Dom Giordano To Receive ZOA's Ben Hecht Award

Shalom ZOA Members, Friends and Supporters of Israel,

Tickets are now available for Philadelphia ZOA's First Tribute Gala on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at the Hilton Philadelphia on City Avenue, as we honor talk-radio giant Dom Giordano and beloved Rabbi Fred Kazan.

Do not miss what will be a memorable event locally for the pro-Israel community in our area.

Jewish community pillar Gary Erlbaum will be master of ceremonies as we honor Dom with the Ben Hecht Award for Outstanding Journalism for his honest and forthright support of Israel, and Rabbi Kazan for his lifelong devotion to the Jewish State of Israel with our Guardian of Israel Award. Jonathan Tobin of Commentary and former executive editor of the Jewish Exponent will be guest speaker, and there will be remarks from our own great ZOA National President Morton Klein.

Of course, there will also be delicious glatt-kosher food, a festive and warm evening and the opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate Israel.

Philadelphia ZOA has set up a special ticket hotline so that you can be a part of this evening. Call 215-333-1729 to order tickets, or contact us by email at a special email address: zoadom@yahoo.com . Or if you would like, a copy of the invitation and response card is attached to this email. Simply print it out and return it to: ZOA-GPD, P.O. Box 45604, Phila., PA 19149.

There is no one else in local media who matches Dom when it comes to standing up for Israel, patriotism and integrity. Dom has taken on guests and callers on 1210 AM WPHT Radio who distort the facts about Israel, and he goes out of his way to speak truthfully about the Arab war against the Jews because it is the right thing to do.

Rabbi Kazan has been a fervent champion of Israel and has inspired generations of local Jews to have a place in their heart for the Jewish State. Whether it be currently at Historic Congregation Kesher Israel where he is religious leader, or Temple Adath Israel where he is Rabbi Emeritus, or at Beth Sholom where he served, or during his tours of Jewish Philadelphia he leads, he has been a proponent for Israel.

It is the duty of all who care about Israel to thank and show appreciation for stalwarts of Israel as we lest not take such support for granted. In our area, we must come out to publicly thank Dom Giordano and Rabbi Kazan.

We look forward to seeing you the evening of Sept. 8.

Please come to our Constitution Day event entitled "Everything you wanted to know about ObamaCare, but didn't know who to ask."

They said we had to pass it to know what's in it, but over a year later, people STILL don't fully understand how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) - aka "ObamaCare" - will affect them and their health.

That's why a coalition of citizens and health care professionals will present "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About ObamaCare But Didn't Know Who to Ask" on the campus of DeSales University in Center Valley, PA from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 - which, ironically, happens to be Constitution Day.  DeSalesUniversity is located in the Lehigh Valley of PA, within easy driving distance of the major population centers of central, northeast, and southeast PA.

Policy professionals, physicians, business and legislative leaders, and representatives from groups most affected by the PPACA will share their insights and expertise through presentations, breakout sessions, exhibits, and panel discussions.

They'll explain how ObamaCare affects personal liberty and the Constitution, families and seniors, taxpayers, Medicare and the deficit, insurance premiums and the uninsured, businesses, employees and the economy, doctors, patients, and access to care, American innovation in medicine, and more.

Also included will be detailed updates on state and national efforts to defund, repeal, replace, and nullify ObamaCare from some of the legislative leaders spearheading those efforts.

Participants will leave the three hour event far more informed about what's in the PPACA than most of the legislators who voted for it, and will be energized to get involved in the fight to save America's health care.  Participants, both live and online, will be empowered by their new understanding of how the PPACA will not accomplish any of the things its name implies, and will be able to effectively communicate that new understanding to others, providing important education about why this ill-conceived piece of legislation needs to be defeated by any means possible.

Already, according to Rasmussen's most recent poll, 54% of Americans want to see ObamaCare repealed, while only 39% oppose repeal - but the people who passed it clearly have not heard the voices of the American people yet.  The more Americans know about the PPACA, the more they dislike it, and this conference will help to provide the tools citizen advocates and health care professionals need to effectively participate in the process to defund, repeal, and replace ObamaCare.

The event will be free to the public on site in a venue which will seat 500, and a live streaming video, and a professionally produced program will promote information about our coalition's sponsoring groups, as well as providing important information about the PPACA.

Please consider joining with the Lehigh Valley Coalition for Health Care Reform to help educate the public about ObamaCare through your sponsorship of this important event.  If you'd like to be involved, please contact me ASAP and I'll reserve your space in our program and on the promotional materials.  We are currently working on creating a web page and Facebook page for the event.

The Doctrine of Abrogation: Open the Koran Day

It's time to sign up!

Earlier this year we announced a major event for this fall, "The Doctrine of Abrogation: Open the Koran Day."

We have scheduled this event for the weekend of October 28 - 30, 2011, which is close to the two year anniversary of the Ft. Hood jihadist massacre perpetrated by Major Nidal Hasan (pictured at right).

If you would like to learn more about this national event, or would like to host a local venue, please click here.

Please read the description of the event and the sign-up instructions carefully, and then access the sign-up form at the bottom of the page.

Also, if you would like to study the Koran, we have a resource to recommend. The Qur'an Dilemma is an accurate, readable English translation that contains commentaries and analysis, including commentaries on the doctrine of abrogation, the history of the codification of the Koran, chronological sequence of the Koran, and the status of women in the Koran. RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For August 25, 2011

1. Greg Sargent's Imaginary Conflict

The Washington Post's in-house left-wing activist, Greg Sargent, thinks he can convince you that he has a "gotcha" moment with Rick Perry's recent book "Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington":

"Rick Perry's campaign is now distancing him from another controversial claim in his book: That we should repeal the 16th Amendment and replace it with a "Fair Tax," a radical idea that's still rattling around in some precincts on the right."

Here's the problem: the book doesn't say that.

2. CBO's Latest Budget and Economic Outlook is Unrealistic

The latest CBO budget and economic outlook is using baseline assumptions that are as realistic as flying unicorns. Although they project a decade of mediocre growth and moderate deficits, even such a dismal projection is a pretentious view of reality.

On the budget side, CBO's baseline outlook portends a $1.284 trillion deficit this year, and $3.487 worth of deficits over the ten-year budget frame, from 2012-2021. The ten-year deficit predictions assume that the annual deficit will dramatically drop to $265 billion in just two years, and remain below $300 billion for the rest of the decade! The previous baseline outlook in March foresaw a $1.4 trillion deficit in 2011 and $6.7 trillion in deficits for the subsequent ten years. Even the March outlook was a lowball figure because the report presumed an unrealistic improvement in economic output, dramatic spikes in revenue, long-term record low interest rates, while obfuscating the costs of Obamacare all along. The updated baseline outlook makes those assumptions on steroids.

The CBO gets their unrealistic budget estimates from predictions of economic growth that run counter to all of the current economic reports. In turn, the robust unicorn economy will rapidly increase revenue, while decreasing spending on anti-poverty and unemployment programs. CBO is predicting GDP growth of 2.3% this year, even though it has only grown by 0.8% for the first half of the year. We would need to enjoy a 3.8% rate of growth for the rest of the year, in order to achieve the 2.3% target.

3. Regarding Jamie Radtke

I was fortunate not to witness Jamie Radtke's speech at the RedState Gathering.

After this incident, perhaps I was a bit too vocal I'd not actually be supporting her campaign. I assume this act of self destruction in front of 400 attendees of the RedState Gathering is why Jamie Radtke's campaign decided to orchestrate a hit job on me in the Politico after I both endorsed her campaign and allowed her to speak at the RedState Gathering.

The basic allegation is that I have not aggressively pushed her campaign because my bosses at Eagle Publishing have a relationship with George Allen and asked me not to support her.

Actually, my bosses at Eagle Publishing do in fact have a relationship with George Allen, and a very good one, and asked me - after I endorsed her - to please go slow for once instead of shooting first and asking questions later.

I love my bosses and my employer and the owner and was happy to accommodate their very first request in my five years of employment to go slow on an endorsement.

To be clear: my bosses were not telling me to stay out, but telling me to wait a while. Perhaps Cuccinelli would get in. Perhaps someone else would get in. Perhaps Radtke would implode.

There's actually more on this story and how it started as, for all intents a purposes, a blackmail threat. You can read about that right here.

4. Rip Van Moonbeam Awakens And It's Still 1980

I confess: on some level, I like Jerry Brown. He's one of those guys - like Pat Moynihan, Paul Tsongas or Bill Bradley - who really, truly and honestly believes in the goals of liberalism, yet is periodically honest enough to be blunt about its failures in the real world. He even studied to be a priest, way back when. One can argue, as Steven Hayward has of Moynihan, that it's a species of moral cowardice to cling to an ideology you know doesn't really work, but even as many times as Brown and his comrades disappoint me, their candor, even unintentional candor, is still refreshing and amusing.

I thought of this when reading an interview CNN's Candy Crowley did with Gov.-again Brown earlier this month, and how it dovetails with the latest reports from the CBO on the economy.

5. Judging September 3rd

ABC News has a profile of the upcoming Palin speech and what it may or may not mean. We know for certain that she will not declare her candidacy for the Presidency that day. And despite the wishful thinking of a bunch of others, I really doubt she will endorse anyone else either.

Earmarks for Terrorism: US Taxpayer Finances Terrorists' Salaries - Palestinian Authority Taxpayer Subsidies By bobguzzardi on Aug 24, 2011 06:43 am

The brilliantly insightful Jonathan Tobin, American and Zionist draws out attention to Israeli Itamar Marcus' Palestinian Media Watch's recent report on what is a perplexing and upsetting use of American Taxpayer money: to pay terrorists which, inevitably means, promoting terrorism. As the US debates a selective shutdown of programs, subsidies and expenditures, this may be ...

US Fears Gadhafi Could Unleash Chemical, Nuclear WMD on Rebels, NATO

Tuesday, 23 Aug 2011

WASHINGTON (AP) - No one can be sure who controls the Libyan government's weapons stockpiles, a stew of deadly chemicals, raw nuclear material and some 30,000 shoulder-fired rockets that officials fear could fall into terrorists' hands in the chaos of Moammar Gadhafi's downfall or afterward.

One immediate worry, U.S. intelligence and military officials say, is that Gadhafi might use the weapons to make a last stand. But officials also face the troubling prospect that the material, which was left under Gadhafi's control by a U.S.-backed disarmament pact, could be obtained by al-Qaida or other militants even after a rebel victory is secured.

The main stockpile of mustard gas and other chemicals, stored in corroding drums, is at a site southeast of Tripoli. Mustard gas can cause severe blistering and death. A cache of hundreds of tons of raw uranium yellowcake is stored at a small nuclear facility east of the capital.

President Obama's Regulatory Dust-Up

By Diane Katz

Rock Katschnig, a corn and soybean farmer in Prophetstown, Illinois, spoke for millions of business owners this week when making a polite appeal to President Obama: "Please don't challenge us with more rules and regulations from Washington, D.C., that hinder us."

The scene: A "town hall" forum on the third and final day of the President's "Get on the Bus" tour of the rural Midwest. Following his 17-minute lecture on the evils of politics (!), as well as the urgent need for "shared sacrifice" (i.e., higher taxes), Obama invited questions from the "folks" in the audience.

"Of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people, commencing demagogues and ending tyrants." --Alexander Hamilton

Editorial Exegesis

Obama implements DREAM Act by executive fiat

"Following a pattern of making law by regulation and executive order, the Obama administration [last week] announced it will impose a version of the Dream (development, relief and education for alien minors) Act on America through administrative fiat. This is blatant political pandering in an election cycle at the expense of American citizens. On Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Congress she has authority to halt deportation of illegal aliens not perceived to be a criminal threat as long as they meet certain criteria, such as attending school or having family in the military. The new rules would cover up to 300,000 illegal aliens. In 2010, the government deported 200,000 with no criminal records. Under the new rules, most would now likely be allowed to stay and apply for permits. Opposed by a majority of Americans and twice defeated in Congress, the federal Dream Act essentially grants amnesty to any illegal alien in America if they agree to enlist in the military or attend a U.S. college. It's called a 'path to citizenship,' a path that leads right past the U.S. Border Patrol. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, a sponsor of the federal Dream Act, praised the DHS announcement. 'These students are the future doctors, lawyers, teachers and maybe senators who will make America stronger,' he said in a statement. So are the children of America's jobless. ... 'If you look at immigrants from Mexico, they register 3-to-1 Democrat, so the Democratic Party is for easy citizenship and allowing them to vote,' says Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. This is about making the Democratic Party, not America, strong." --Investor's Business Daily

Essential Liberty

"Our Founders warned us that all republics have eventually fallen into tyranny -- the only difference being the relative timeline of each republic's descent. ... From the summer of 1787 when our Framers deliberated over their magnificent Constitution, we have recognized that the clear statement and equal application of the Law is among the most critical duties of any government. If we allow ourselves to lose this, we may as well be back in ancient Rome, subject to the whim of every petty tyrant in the taxing bureau or the zoning board. For it doesn't matter whether the regulator's foot is shod in a jack boot or a Roman sandal; if he can hold you down with that boot upon your neck, then we are no longer in the America that our Founding Fathers intended for us." --columnist John F. Di Leo

Upright

"President Obama is chilling out at the beach while the country's economic engine is headed for a deep freeze. ... The fact is this guy is simply detached from normal Americans. Even when he wants to give the appearance of being with the common man in the hard-hit Midwest, the bus he took was a $1.1 million ultra-luxury model custom-built at taxpayer expense. Now he's jetting off to take advantage of the kind of glamorous lifestyle otherwise only open to A-list celebrities and billionaires. Mr. Obama is holding off giving a big jobs speech until after his return. If he were serious about his own job, he'd return to the White House and give his TV address instead of sipping Prosecco in the sand with his pampered buddies." --columnist Emily Miller

"Let us take these whiny excuses at face value and accept for the sake of argument that Obama's Recovery Summer would now be going gangbusters had not the Libyan rebels seized Benghazi and sent the economy into a tailspin. Did no one in the smartest administration in history think this might be the time for the president to share in some of the 'bad luck' and forgo an ostentatious vacation in the exclusive playground of the rich? When you're the presiding genius of the Brokest Nation in History, enjoying the lifestyle of the super-rich while allegedly in 'public service' sends a strikingly Latin American message." --columnist Mark Steyn

"I seem to recall a presidential candidate who told his followers back in 2008 'we are five days away from completely transforming the United States of America.' That, we were told, was the essence of 'hope and change.' More than a few Americans have figured out it was nothing more than nihilism with some media PR attached to it. ... But I am sure of one thing: you can't run a country when you're attached to the idea that it is fundamentally flawed. That is the essence of nihilism. That nihilism is virtually indistinguishable from progressivism. --columnist Arnold Ahlert

"A man who misleads must choose his words carefully lest his real agenda be exposed. Obama's public persona has to disguise his true feelings. Thus, his private persona is in constant conflict with the words he utters. That is why he hesitates. He is watching every word lest he slip and expose yet another dictatorial predilection. That is not stupidity; instead it indicates his conflicted emotions running headlong into themselves. He hopes to continue to fool the people. He lies and prevaricates and it is only when he is angry that you see the real Obama emerge. Then when he realizes that he may have gone too far, he removes himself from the fray. He blames others hoping that no one will actually catch on." --columnist Eileen F. Toplansky

And very sincerely, I want to make clear that you have nothing to worry about in terms of their -- their viability." --Joe Biden to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao

Utilitarian reasoning: "Your policy has been one which I fully understand -- I'm not second-guessing -- of one child per family. The result [is] that you're in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people. Not sustainable." --Joe Biden, whose only argument against forced abortion is that there won't be enough taxpayers

 Dezinformatsia

The BIG Lie: "Nothing is unconstitutional until courts declare it to be so." --an Associated Press "fact check" on Michele Bachmann's charge that ObamaCare's individual mandate is unconstitutional

Wrong diagnosis: "The grandees of the [Republican] party are once again trying to find some new candidates to get into the race. Paul Ryan, Chris Christie, anybody. And that tells me that the party, in basic terms of philosophy, doesn't believe in science, doesn't believe in government, at any level. Or is just a bunch of patriotic anarchists that in terms of orientation is in disarray." --Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson

Dumb and dumber: "If the president thinks more should be done, if he thinks there should be more stimulus, why doesn't he just go for broke? Why doesn't he go out there and ask for it, make a case for it?" --NBC's Samantha Guthrie (Um, he HAS gone for broke.)

Sometimes they get it right: "Cruising white Midwestern hamlets in his black bus, Obama tried to justify not calling lawmakers back to D.C. by saying they'd just continue to bicker. But what does he think they'll do in September? The truth is, he doesn't want them back in the capital any more than they want to be back. It would have screwed up his vacation and upset Michelle, who already feels trapped in the Washington bubble." --New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd

Reading am hard: "Tonight is the measure of whether the country begins, in the state of Wisconsin, a national drive to push back or whether we have more to go to build a movement of resistance. But resist we much. We must and we will much ... about ... that ... be committed." --MSNBC's newest host Al Sharpton having difficulty reading the teleprompter about Wisconsin's recall elections

Village Idiots

Incomprehensible metaphors: "Black voters gave the first votes and the most votes [to Obama] and now have the most pain. The highest infant mortality rate, the shortest life expectancy, least access to jobs and capital, so obviously it must be targeted for more than just for votes. If I can use the analogy of the great Titanic: There are those in the Tea Party that want to destroy the captain and preserve those on the deck and preserve those in the cabins but the water is gushing up the bottom and more and more people are falling in the sink." --professional race hustler Jesse Jackson, who must be reading off Al Sharpton's teleprompter

Non Compos Mentis: "Why did Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim psychiatrist at Ft. Hood, go on a shooting spree after being assigned to debrief soldiers who came back from the theatre of war and they're telling him of the things that they did that were against their conscience now, and a Muslim psychiatrist is hearing them talking about the rape of Muslim women, the killing and sodomizing of families. He couldn't take it anymore so he just shot up the soldiers. They want you to think that he's a terrorist but he was debriefing terrorists and unfortunately it took his balance." --Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan, who must have been reading John Kerry's 1971 Senate testimony accusing his fellow soldiers of war crimes

"[Obama's foreign policy has] been really good as commander in chief and that's not what the election is going to be fought on. It's going to be fought on the economy. But, he's getting our troops out of Iraq. They'll be almost all gone by the end of this year, if not all of them. The Afghan war is being drawn down. Osama bin Laden is dead and Moammar Gadhafi is on his way out. Nobody's had a foreign policy record like that since -- I don't know how far back you'd have to go. Not Ronald Reagan, not George W. Bush. Nobody. I don't know, you'd have to go back to Harry Truman before -- or Franklin Roosevelt before you get a record like that." --former DNC chair Howard Dean

Short Cuts

"Some administration officials think the way to [create jobs] is to ape Jimmy Carter and create a new cabinet department: [The New York Times reports] 'The administration may ... merge the Department of Commerce, the Office of the United States Trade Representative and some economic divisions at the State Department into a new agency, administration officials said. Possible names include the Department of Jobs or the Department of Competitiveness.' So let's see if we have this straight: There's already a Department of Labor, so we need a Department of Jobs? If we really need a new cabinet-level agency to deal with unemployment, why not at least have a little wit and call it the Department of Redundancy Department?" --Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto

"There is far too much emphasis on government as the doting, problem-solving parent. What made Western civilization rich and liberal was not just free-market capitalism and well-funded constitutional government, but the role of the family, community and church in reminding the emancipated individual of an affluent society that he should not always do what he was legally permitted to. ... Our high-tech angry youth are deprived not just because their elders put at risk their future subsidies, but because they were not taught what real wealth is -- and where and how it is obtained and should be used." --historian Victor Davis Hanson

"India got a congratulatory note from the United States on the sixty-fifth anniversary of independence from Britain. It's been a struggle. The country's been torn by racial divisions and religious strife and civil war since British troops left, and so has India." --comedian Argus Hamilton

So That's What Obama Means By Shared Sacrifice
GrassTopsUSA Exclusive Commentary
By Don Feder
08/24/2011

What will $50,000 buy the average family?

It will get them a Chevrolet Brawn SUV and a Toyota Corolla, or 17 years of gas (at the current price at the pump) or 6 years of groceries. It will pay their mortgage for 4 years, or educate their child at a four-year state college or university.

Or, if you're America's royal family - Barack I and Queen Michelle of Arrogant - it's the rental on a swank, waterfront vacation home - with boathouse, horse paddocks and apple orchard - for 10 days. Blue Heron Farm - a 28.5-acre estate on Martha's Vineyard off Cape Cod - has a five-bedroom main house, a guest house, a swimming pool and a half-court for basketball.

The real estate agent who handles the property won 't disclose the rental. Other area agents estimate the property rents for between $35,000 and $50,000 a week. (The Obamas have it for 10 days, making $50,000 a low-side estimate) The House of Chicago paid for the digs. We the tax-serfs paid for staff and Secret Service housing etc., and the cost of transporting the family and their servitors.

The week before his Martha's Vineyard getaway, the president took a three-day bus tour of the Midwest, where he expounded on one of his favorite themes. "If everybody took an attitude of shared sacrifice, we could solve our deficit and debt problem next week." Our debt problem? I didn't know you and me were responsible for increasing the national debt from $10.6 trillion to $14.3 trillion since January 20, 2009. Rather irresponsible of us, wasn't it?

Shared sacrifice for thee, but not for he. Forget what the vacation costs taxpayers. With unemployment at 9.1%, you'd think the royal couple might feel a little guilty about paying $50,000 to rent a vacation home for a week and a half.

The second week in July, the Dow-Jones Industrial Average lost 419.63 points. From June to July, the sale of previously-owned homes fell 3.5% - this despite massive subsidies for the housing market over the past two years. New claims for unemployment benefits rose 9,000. Did I mention that the nation's unemployment rate is over 9%?

The Wall Street Journal surveyed 50 or so economic forecasters who put the odds of a recession next year at 29%. Ten of them said the odds were 40% or higher.

This brings to mind Ronald Reagan's famous quip during the 1980 campaign: "Recession is when your neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours. And recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his."

In a spirit of shared sacrifice, the Obamas might have decided to forgo this year's vacation of the rich and famous. But there's little self-awareness on the left.

When Obama speaks of shared sacrifice, he means sacrifice for the middle-class family struggling to make ends meet, sacrifice for businessmen trying to meet a payroll, sacrifice for young couples who may have to delay the purchase of their first home for decades, sacrifice for recent college grads selling insurance or working behind the counter at a fast-food restaurant while they wait for the economy to improve

In the eyes of the elite, sacrifice is for suckers - for those who buy the hot-air of campaign speeches, not those who make it. Sacrifice is not for our rulers. It's not for a man who never had a job that involved generating wealth in the private sector, instead of redistributing it.

The rhetoric of the left never matches the reality of their lives. Barack and Michelle, those paladins of the common man, are a classic case of lifestyles of the smug and hypocritical.

Last summer, the First Shopper visited the storm-ravaged Gulf Coast and observed it was still a good place to vacation. Shortly thereafter, she headed for the Mediterranean city of Marbella, Spain, for what was billed as a "mother-daughter trip" with Sasha.

This family outing included renting 60 rooms at a hotel whose rooms go for up to $6,000 a night, for Mrs. Obama and her entourage.

Whatever piddling amount The House of Barrack paid pales before the cost to taxpayers - $146,000 for a roundtrip on the Air Force version of a 747, the cost of the First Lady's support staff, 70 Secret Service agents ($273 per diem for five days, plus $95,500 to house and feed them) and a 15-vehicle convoy to shuttle everyone around Spain.

Fighting fatty foods in juvenile diets creates a mighty appetite for luxury living.

In 2009, after a few months in office, the regal couple had one of those romantic "date nights" in New York City - including dinner at the Blue Hill Restaurant near Washington Square (described as "chic but underrated") and orchestra seats for "Joe Turner's Come And Gone," a play about po' black folks struggling to get by early in the 20th century. I am not making this up.

The power couple paid for dinner and the show. Between Air Force One, choppers to ferry everyone to and from, Secret Service and NYPD, the romantic excursion cost taxpayers an estimated $100,000. Apparently, there are no theaters or classy restaurants in the D.C.-area where Barrack and Michelle could have exchanged meaningful glances across a candle-lit table.

The contrast between the rhetoric of the elite and the reality of their lives couldn't be more glaring.

In 2007, former Senator and presidential aspirant John Edwards earned $285,000 for nine campus speeches, including $55,000 for an address at the University of California at Davis titled "Poverty, The Great Moral Issue Facing America." Few saw the incongruity of a man whose fame came through politics lecturing students on poverty for $55,000 per. ("Inflated Fees for Speeches About Poverty By Political Hacks, The Great Moral Issue Facing America.")

We learned just how grotesque it was for Edwards to lecture anyone on moral issues facing America, when the truth came out about the lengths he went to conceal his mistress and the child she bore him. The adultery occurred after he ran for president using his wife's cancer as a prop.

John Forbes-500 Kerry, senior Senator from Massachusetts, who made his money the old-fashioned way (he married it) has spent 16 years in Washington proving his unswerving devotion to big government. According to the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union, in the last session of Congress, Kerry voted for higher taxes and more spending 94% of the time.

In July 2010, The Boston Herald disclosed that Kerry, a self-avowed tribune of the downtrodden, avoided paying $437,500 in Massachusetts sales tax and $70,000 a year in excise taxes by berthing his 76-foot yacht in Rhode Island, which abolished its boat sales tax in 1993 and has no excise tax, instead of in the state he claims to represent.

Timothy Geithner was confirmed as Obama's Treasury Secretary, despite neglecting to pay more than $34,000 in taxes. Former Senator Tom Daschle, in line to be Obama's Secretary of Health and Human Services, wasn't as lucky. Daschle's nomination was withdrawn, after it was learned that he had failed to pay $101,000 in taxes for 2005-2007, and somehow neglected to report $83,333 in consulting income in the last year.

Taxes are for the peasantry, not for those who write and enforce the tax code. BTW, it was the left that coined the phrase "tax cheat."

Al Gore preaches smaller carbon footprints, while his own are the size of Bigfoot's.

The day after he received an Oscar for his docu-fantasy "An Inconvenient Truth," the Tennessee Center for Policy Research reported that Gore's home in the ritzy Belle Meade section of Nashville used more than 20 times the electricity of the average American household. The rising-sea-levels Chicken Little probably was responsible for putting three polar bears on ice floes, due to melting of the polar ice cap, thanks to his energy extravagance.

Charges were dismissed against Dominique Strauss-Kahn (DSK to the French media) former head of the International Monetary Fund and leading candidate for the presidential nomination of the French Socialist Party, who was arrested in May and charged with sexually assaulting a chambermaid.

Whatever occurred between DSK and the maid took place in Strauss-Kahn's $3,000-a-night suite at the Sofitel Hotel in Manhattan. The arrest was front-page news in the New York tabloids for days. None noted the irony of a socialist staying in $3,000-a-night hotel suite. The better to express solidarity with the masses, my dear.

For the left, ideology is all.

You prove your commitment to the have-nots by voting for nationalized healthcare, by raising taxes on those reputed to be rich, by defending entitlements to the death, by pressuring banks to give mortgages to those who can't afford them, by saving the environment through industry-killing regulations and stopping domestic drilling, by creating jobs with massive subsidies (jobs which will evaporate when the subsidies end), and by showing your compassion for "undocumented workers" by setting them on the proverbial path to citizenship.

Do these things liberalism says, and you are entitled to think of yourself as progressive, forward-looking, courageous and compassionate.

How you live your own life is irrelevant. You can live like royalty at taxpayer expense, you can cheat on your taxes (not to mention your spouse), you can sexually harass a low-level state worker (as Clinton did when he was Arkansas governor), you can accept payoffs and kickbacks (you can make $100,000 in six months playing the commodities market, Hillary was probably channeling John D. Rockefeller at the time), you can give less than 1% of your income to charity - all irrelevant.

Liberal politicians prove their virtue by extending the power and scope of government. Once they've paid their welfare state dues, how they behave privately is no more than a footnote of history.

I've always found it ironic that Thomas Jefferson - a slave-owning scion of the Virginia aristocracy and father of the Democratic Party - won the presidency in 1800 by selling himself as a champion of the common man, and attacking John Adams (the son of a farmer and who taught school before he practiced law) as a plutocrat and mouthpiece for the moneyed interests. In 1932, FDR (a Hudson Valley squire) did the same feat of prestidigitation with Herbert Hoover, an orphan who went to Stanford and made a fortune in mining. In both cases, rhetoric completely obliterated reality.

In a way, it's entirely appropriate. Liberals don't live in the real world but on a plane of existence where the nature of things is less than inconsequential. Cause and effect, historical experience, the laws of economics - all are meaningless abstractions.

Obama is the magnifico of make-believe. Nothing about him is real. He rode to power on speeches he read off a teleprompter and books he wrote about himself.

From lawyer, to community organizer, to the Illinois State Senate, to less than two years in the United States Senate, he stayed in each position just long enough to burnish his credentials for the next rung on the ladder. He reminds me of a song from The H.M.S. Pinafore: "Stick to your desks and never go to sea and you may be the ruler of the Queen's Navee!"

For such a man, calling for "shared sacrifice" before paying $50,000 to rent a vacation house for a week and a half is the most natural thing in the world.

Gold's Rise Signifies America's Fall
By Dr. Mark W. Hendrickson, FloydReports.com

The price of gold has gone on a tear this summer, from slightly under $1,500 per ounce to well over $1,800 per ounce, and it looks like it wants to go higher. What gives?

Well, if you bought gold last spring, you're looking pretty smart. And if you bought gold a decade ago at $300 per ounce, you're looking like a whiz. Imagine buying a stock 10 years ago, having it appreciate fairly steadily over the decade, and then watching its price increase in less than two months by more than your original purchase price. For a commodity to increase at such a rate is truly extraordinary, even portentous...

For a society, the rising price of gold is not a good thing....

How's that Offshoring Working for Ya?
By Joe Guzzardi, FloydReports.com

The claim first made ten years ago and repeated by Republican and Democratic administrations that corporate offshoring would increase domestic employment turned out to be a painful hoax perpetrated on American workers

Matthew Slaughter, a Dartmouth College Tuck School of Business professor and an economic advisor to George W. Bush, touted the universally accepted globalism mantra that "for every one job that U.S. multinationals created abroad...they created nearly two U.S. jobs in their [U.S.-based] parents." Today, Slaughter admits his error. In the meantime unemployed, indebted and foreclosed Americans pay the price for the federal government's folly.

Despite the current administration's ongoing rhetoric to the contrary, few well-paying jobs will be created near term....

A good friend who also happens to be quite conservative recently wrote me repeating the commonly accepted leftist propaganda that: "they say Americans don't want the jobs illegals take, and I mostly agree with that."
Well, in my opinion, Americans would be quite happy with a lot of those jobs if the pay rate wasn't artificially depressed by an unlimited supply of illegal foreign peasant labor. I can easily see a large number of currently unemployed American youngsters being quite happy to receive $20.00 an hour to work in the fields and packing houses, that is, assuming they received no food stamps, no unlimited unemployment benefits, no welfare, no section 8 housing, no free cell phones and no "free" medical care. And if they actually had to earn everything they spent, they'd be quite aware of the magnitude of the money stolen from their paychecks by the feds and the state, which ... An Israeli news columnist is scorching Barack Obama as possibly the worst U.S. president in history, calling him "a living and breathing nightmare."

President Obama campaigning for other Democrats in 2010

Yigal Walt of Ynetnews says Obama "is solidifying his status as the worst president in American history. The leader who promised us a bright future of peace and fraternity is leading the American empire - and the rest of the world with it - into a dark abyss."

"Ever since he settled into the Oval Office, Obama has been hopping from one disaster to the next, making every possible mistake, boosting enemies and disregarding allies while ruining everything he touches in the process," Walt writes.

Delta makes new promise about passengers' religion Plan follows controversy over subjecting Americans to Saudi Arabia's Islamic rules

Less than two months after WND broke the story about a plan that would have Delta Air Lines impose Saudi Arabia's Islamic rules on Americans in Washington and New York in order to fly directly to the Muslim kingdom, officials for Delta have promised not to ask anyone about their religious affiliation.

A statement from the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles reports that the airline, following a meeting with center officials, wrote in a letter to the center that, "Delta employees do not currently and will not in future, request that customers declare their religious affiliation. We would also not seek such information on behalf of any Sky Team partner or any airline."

An Earthquake Comes to Washington
It took an earthquake to interrupt Obama's golf game. Nothing else until now has. But while the rumbling of tectonic plates comes and goes, the deeper rumbling of millions of voters will not. The rumbling is larger than this election. It is bigger than Obama and larger than his feckless party. It is an earthquake of self-definition.

There are two types of earthquake events in the last hundred years. Shocks that made Americans rethink their society, the government and the world around them. Economic depressions and unexpected wars. The Great Depression, Pearl Harbor and September 11 were all shocks to the system that changed the country. That changed how Americans saw themselves. And we may now be in the midst of a fourth such event.

Obama's backers expected that a second depression would lead to a second New Deal. His victory seemed to bear out their predictions. The crisis was here, now was the time to exploit it. But instead of another New Deal, the crisis has led to an Anti-New Deal, a revolt against government regulation.

The left's dogmatic rigidity, its adherence to theories of history in which capitalism leads to socialism blinded it to the obvious. A major national economic crisis had come again, but the context of it had changed.

There was a world of difference between 1933 and 2010 in the level of government involvement in the economy. Today we are living in a New Deal world, reformed, moderated and elaborated on. Massive government intervention in the economy is not a radical new idea, it's business as usual. The architects of the New Deal could claim that they were addressing the failures of capitalism-- but today there is no longer any sector of the economy that legally takes place outside the sphere of government. The buck stops in DC.

The anti-capitalist rhetoric of the left has been unconvincing for that reason. When the two richest men in America hold fundraisers for the Democratic Party, does that mean the capitalists have taken over the party, or that the socialists have taken over capitalism? Most people intuitively know the answer to that. The modern economic reality is an oligarchy where public officials and private lobbies intersect.

"It's Time to Root For The Home Team!"

Isn't it incredible that today when citizens of our nation attempt to apply commonsense to the need to secure our nation's borders and create an immigration system that has real integrity it is likely that they will be accused of xenophobia and racism?

Isn't it equally incredible that politicians are able to successfully campaign for political office, even the Presidency, by claiming that unless our nation imports brilliant people from around the world that America will lose its position of preeminence in the world?

Finally, is it not insane that while Americans stand in long lines under a sweltering summer sun in Georgia that the same politicians who claim to be concerned about these unemployed Americans are adamant about providing a pathway to United States citizenship to illegal aliens?

Consider this news report that appeared last week on the Fox News Website:

Law enforcement databases used for illegal background searches on GOP political opponents

Sheriff's office Spying on Private Citizens / DA Looks other way

By Jimmy Van Zandt | Bugle Political Correspondent

Out of control Bucks County Sheriffs Department Sergeant Gary Browndorf directed the use of government-owned law enforcement databases accessible by the Department to obtain banking, financial, educational, tax, and other records on political opponents.

This stunning violation of both state and federal law happened at a time when Bucks County Sheriff Edward "Duke" Donnelly was neutered by Browndorf, who obtained lewd photos of the Sheriff receiving fellatio (oral sex) from a county social worker - a woman Browndorf called his sex slave.

Browndorf directed a secretary, a source identified as "Rondine", to conduct and compile the computer searches. At least three Bucks County Sheriffs Department Employees, including a Deputy Sheriff, confirmed to The Bugle that they had direct knowledge that the searches for "dirt" were conducted. "Rondine" was said to have a sexual relationship with Brownsdorf also.

The Deputy Attorney General in the State Attorney General's Norristown office is fully aware of this misuse of taxpayers dollars for political purposes, a felony and a violation of the Federal Privacy Act which guards US citizens from these types of intrusive privacy violations. Unfortunately, the prosecutor has issued no subpoena, taken no depositions and generally ignored these blatant violations of law by two public employees. He also knows a Democrat Commission traded public insurance insurance contracts for big campaign contributions but doesn't saying "it is impossible to prove" even though he's conducted no investigation.

What would the prosecutor's 90-year-old father say if he knew his son refused to follow the evidence?

2012 Update

  • It's official: The GOP presidential primary campaign has a new front-runner. Last week, Rasmussen released a poll that found Texas Governor Rick Perry leading the pack with 29%, to Mitt Romney's 18%. Today, Gallup released a new poll with nearly identical results.

In Gallup's survey of Republican voters, Perry leads all declared candidates with 29%, to Romney's 17%. Ron Paul is third with 13%, followed by Michele Bachmann at 10%. No other candidate receives double digit support. Add Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani to the mix, and Perry still leads with 25%, followed by Romney (14%), Palin (11%), Paul (11%) and Giuliani (9%).

It is important to note that the GOP contest won't be decided in a national primary on a single day. It will be a drawn-out campaign, fought in state-by-state battles. The latest poll suggests Perry has a narrow lead over Michele Bachmann in Iowa, while Romney holds a commanding lead in New Hampshire.
  • A new  poll shows President Obama is struggling in the key battleground state of Florida. According to the survey, Obama's approval rating stands at 40%, while 55% of likely Sunshine State voters disapprove. Moreover, just 37% say Obama deserves reelection and 57% say he does not. The poll also finds Perry, Romney and Bachmann all leading Obama in hypothetical match-ups.

Biden's Obsequious Bow to Beijing

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
  • provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

  • Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
  • If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
  • And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.
