Geno's Steaks Owner Joey Vento Dies in Philadelphia

Joey Vento, owner of a landmark south Philadelphia cheesesteak stand who once told customers to order in English, has died. He was 71.
Vento's nephew, Joseph Perno, a manager at Geno's Steaks, told The Associated Press that Vento had a massive heart attack and died Tuesday.
Perno said family members had just gotten out of the hospital and would not be making any immediate statements.

Massive Earthquake Rocks East Coast From Washington to New York
MINERAL, Va. - One of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded on the East Coast of the United States shook buildings and rattled nerves on Tuesday and forced the evacuations of parts of the Capitol, the White House, and the Pentagon.
There were no immediate reports of deaths, but fire officials in Washington said there were at least some injuries.

Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America
NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.
Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."
AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.
The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.
Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. In the spirit of good will for our local community, the Kitchen Table Patriots ask that everyone attending bring a donation of non-perishable food items to help local families in need (many of which have been deeply affected by the severe downturn in our economy). 100% goes directly to them. A table will be set up to collect the donations. The Food Larder is a designated food distribution site of the Opportunity Council of Bucks County. Support comes from area churches and synagogues, scout groups, local businesses, organizations and individual donors. It is housed and managed by volunteers at the New Britain Baptist Church.

There is no one else in local media who matches Dom when it comes to standing up for Israel, patriotism and integrity. Dom has taken on guests and callers on 1210 AM WPHT Radio who distort the facts about Israel, and he goes out of his way to speak truthfully about the Arab war against the Jews because it is the right thing to do.
Rabbi Kazan has been a fervent champion of Israel and has inspired generations of local Jews to have a place in their heart for the Jewish State. Whether it be currently at Historic Congregation Kesher Israel where he is religious leader, or Temple Adath Israel where he is Rabbi Emeritus, or at Beth Sholom where he served, or during his tours of Jewish Philadelphia he leads, he has been a proponent for Israel.

Please come to our Constitution Day event entitled "Everything you wanted to know about ObamaCare, but didn't know who to ask."
They said we had to pass it to know what's in it, but over a year later, people STILL don't fully understand how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) - aka "ObamaCare" - will affect them and their health.
That's why a coalition of citizens and health care professionals will present "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About ObamaCare But Didn't Know Who to Ask" on the campus of DeSales University in Center Valley, PA from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 - which, ironically, happens to be Constitution Day. DeSalesUniversity is located in the Lehigh Valley of PA, within easy driving distance of the major population centers of central, northeast, and southeast PA.
Policy professionals, physicians, business and legislative leaders, and representatives from groups most affected by the PPACA will share their insights and expertise through presentations, breakout sessions, exhibits, and panel discussions.
They'll explain how ObamaCare affects personal liberty and the Constitution, families and seniors, taxpayers, Medicare and the deficit, insurance premiums and the uninsured, businesses, employees and the economy, doctors, patients, and access to care, American innovation in medicine, and more.
Also included will be detailed updates on state and national efforts to defund, repeal, replace, and nullify ObamaCare from some of the legislative leaders spearheading those efforts.
Participants will leave the three hour event far more informed about what's in the PPACA than most of the legislators who voted for it, and will be energized to get involved in the fight to save America's health care. Participants, both live and online, will be empowered by their new understanding of how the PPACA will not accomplish any of the things its name implies, and will be able to effectively communicate that new understanding to others, providing important education about why this ill-conceived piece of legislation needs to be defeated by any means possible.
Already, according to Rasmussen's most recent poll, 54% of Americans want to see ObamaCare repealed, while only 39% oppose repeal - but the people who passed it clearly have not heard the voices of the American people yet. The more Americans know about the PPACA, the more they dislike it, and this conference will help to provide the tools citizen advocates and health care professionals need to effectively participate in the process to defund, repeal, and replace ObamaCare.
The event will be free to the public on site in a venue which will seat 500, and a live streaming video, and a professionally produced program will promote information about our coalition's sponsoring groups, as well as providing important information about the PPACA.

Gallup polling dispels the idea that Perry cannot beat Barack Obama. They are tied among registered voters, which would more than likely put Perry ahead in likely voters. Mitt Romney still polls better against Obaam and has more money, but Romney also has higher name identification. Interestingly, as Perry's name ID goes up, his favorable ratings go up too.
Right now, though, the polls that matter are state by state polls.
In Iowa, Democrat leaning PPP reports that Rick Perry is now in first place with 22% with Romney at 19%. More surprisingly, PPP polled on Sarah Palin's effects in the race. Surprisingly, for both Romney and Perry a Palin candidacy was statistically meaningless - both only dropping a single point. Palin herself came in below Ron Paul. This suggests, more than anything, that it is time for Palin to fish or cut bait.
PPP also reports that it will release a poll today showing Perry with a double digit lead nationally and, if it were a two man race, he'd be trouncing Mitt Romney with more than 50% of the vote. Lastly, PPP has a poll showing Barack Obama beating Perry, but by only six points. That's actually not good for an incumbent President right now. Carter's lead over Ronald Reagan's at this point was double digits.
All this suggests that Perry is rapidly becoming the front running and consolidating the lead. In this is also a problem.
2. This is really pathetic
This is unsurprising, but also really pathetic.
"Conservative" elites are unhappy with the Republican field.
Bill Kristol pines for a smart guy.
Let me put this in perspective for you. The group of "smart" conservatives who were okay to let No Child Left Behind go through, who did little to oppose Medicare Part D, who advocated for TARP, and endorsed the idea of "big government" conservatives are unhappy that the only people running for President right now are actual conservatives.
3. $500,000 of Green for Green Jobs, Red for the Rest of Us
It certainly pays to go green. Well, at least until the greenbacks stop flowing - and bankruptcy kicks in.
Last year, the Competitive Enterprise Institute's Chris Horner estimated that the $30 billion green handout in the stimulus bill cost taxpayers roughly $475,000 per job created. According to the Wall Street Journal, that's quadruple the cost of creating a job in a nonsubsidized private firm. It turns out that Horner was right on the money, even for non-energy related "green" jobs.

All of this is intended to show the Muslim world that the Obama administration will not "overreact" to terrorism the way the bad old Bush administration did.

Libya is in danger of becoming another Iran if the Obama administration fails to act quickly to support non-Islamist factors who led the country's revolution, Middle East expert Walid Phares says.
The hard-line Islamists are just waiting to take over the country, and only the United States and its allies in NATO can prevent them, Phares says in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV.
"The Islamist network has its own propaganda, and the propaganda is not in the interests of having the image of the United States being defended and protected," he said. "From the beginning of the process, we should have engaged with and partnered with the democracy forces, not with the fundamentalist forces."

Veteran intelligence analyst Fred Fleitz tells Newsmax that the United States played a "backseat role" in toppling Moammar Gadhafi's regime in Libya, while France and Britain are "big winners" for their staunch support of the Libyan rebels.
Fleitz, who spent 25 years working with the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the State Department, also says Gadhafi's overthrow should have a "powerful effect" on the anti-government resistance in Syria, and hopes it will inspire the democracy movement in Iran.
But he warns that radical Islamists could gain significant power in Libya following the fall of Gadhafi's 42-year dictatorship.

The End of Normal
The Arab Spring didn't accomplish a whole lot beyond swapping out a handful of dictators for their more obscure henchmen and Islamist allies, but it did kill the treaty model of regional normalization completely dead. European models of conflict settlement never mapped well onto a region where there is no enduring form of government. Middle Eastern states are tribal arrangements ruled over by a combination of force and local consensus. A signed treaty with them was not an enduring agreement inherited by a republic, but an agreement with a family or an oligarchy. The overthrow of Mubarak and the subsequent rejection of Camp David by his successors is a reminder that even the most famous regional peace accord could not outlast Sadat and his chosen replacement. Israeli politicians on the left and the right have chased after the will-o'-the-wisp of normalized relations, but a normalization of relations that permanently moves conflict out of the sphere of armed warfare, and into that of trade competition and soccer matches does not exist in the region. The Saudi peace plan with full regional normalization is something that they could not offer to Israel, or even any significant Arab Muslim state in the region. The Middle East's players ricochet from competition to armed confrontation, each regional player always has its eye on the other, alliances are made, broken and reformed in only a few years. Anyone who thinks the region is driven by honor and revenge only has to look at how quickly leaders will ally with the murderers of their own fathers for a temporary advantage. Or how quickly they will turn on their brother if the price is right.

Since Congress passed the Nuclear Waste Policy Act in 1982, the U.S. has held seven presidential elections, launched about 130 space shuttle missions, and successfully landed robotic rovers on Mars. But Washington still lacks a viable long-term plan for the radioactive waste produced by its commercial nuclear reactors. That inaction is costing taxpayers billions of dollars.
The federal government's paralysis on nuclear waste is particularly disturbing given the March 11 disaster at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant in Japan, which has been made far more complicated by the large amount of spent fuel stored inside the reactor buildings.

A Florida teacher has been suspended and removed from the classroom in Mount Dora, Florida, for comments made on his Facebook page against homosexual "marriage." Liberty Counsel will be representing the teacher in court.
The comments by Mount Dora High School teacher Jerry Buell were posted on his Facebook page on his personal time, using his home computer. Those comments reflected the mainstream view that marriage should be between one man and one woman. According to a Liberty Counsel press release, the history and government teacher expressed his view that homosexuality is a sin and that seeing two "grooms" kissing on a news story revolted him.

Washington Rocked
The nation's capital was rocked by a significant earthquake this afternoon. Buildings were evacuated and phone service went down. According to various reports, tremors could be felt as far north as Toronto, Canada. President Obama seemed oblivious as he golfed on Martha's Vineyard. Why am I not surprised?
While the president frolics on vacation, millions of Americans struggle to find a job and pay their bills. And there are tremors roiling across the political landscape too. In Gallup's daily tracking poll, Obama hit a new low with just 38% approving of his job performance. Fifty-four percent disapprove.
The Gallup poll is not an aberration. Today's Rasmussen tracking poll finds that Obama's approval index, the difference between those who strongly approve and strongly disapprove of his performance, is also at an all-time low of -26. Just 19% of likely voters strongly approve of Obama's job performance, while 45% strongly disapprove.
Biden's Apology Tour
In the wake of America's historic credit downgrade, Vice President Joe Biden was dispatched on a tour of Asian nations to reassure our largest creditors that Uncle Sam is still good for his debts. I'm sorry to report that the Biden gaffe machine lived up to its well-deserved reputation.
According to a British media report, the vice president of the United States apologized to a Chinese audience for his inability to speak Chinese. Biden said:
"And so the thing that I'm most embarrassed about in my career of 38 years of having an opportunity to literally meet every major world leader in the last 38 years -- I was elected as a 29-year-old, young man from modest means... The thing that always embarrasses me is -- and in the back of my head, I'm embarrassed in front of you -- I'm embarrassed I can't speak to you in Chinese. I would, seriously, I would rather be able to honor you and show my respect for you by speaking your language, as you honor me by speaking mine."
(I can think of a few things about Biden that are more embarrassing than his inability to speak Chinese!)
But all joking aside, the instinct of this administration to prostrate itself and grovel before other nations is unbelievable. Did Biden tell the Mongolians or Japanese that he was embarrassed he couldn't speak their languages? This was an amazing kowtow to the Chinese by the vice president of the United States to suggest he was embarrassed or somehow dishonoring his audience because he did not speak their language.
And it came in response to a question from a student who noted that speaking English in China was increasingly popular! In other words, there are many in China who admire America and want to be more like us. Biden seemingly suggested it should be the other way around.
Unfortunately, there is more. In a rambling response to a question about America's debt and the downgrade, Biden referenced China's one-child policy, saying, "Your policy has been one which I fully understand -- I'm not second-guessing -- of one child per family."
With the pathetic comments that he "fully understood" and wasn't "second-guessing" China's forced abortion policy, Biden surrendered the moral authority of the United States. By raising the issue and failing to condemn it, Biden lent legitimacy to the communist regime's brutality.
Speaker John Boehner issued a rebuke of Biden's nonsense. Here is Boehner's statement:
"I'm deeply troubled by the comments reportedly made by the vice president yesterday regarding China's reprehensible one-child policy, which has resulted in forced sterilizations and coerced abortions and should not be condoned by any American official. No government on Earth has the authority to place quotas on the value of innocent human life, or to treat life as an economic commodity that can be regulated and taken away on a whim by the state.
"I hope and trust that the vice president didn't actually say what has been reported, and that a correction or clarification from the White House will be forthcoming. The Obama administration should be focusing on jobs for the American people, not encouraging foreign governments to utilize abortion as a means of population and deficit control."
S.O.S. -- Stop Obama's Spending!
CBS's Mark Knoller crunched the numbers on the latest data from the Treasury Department regarding the national debt. These new numbers put Obama's spending into perspective. Here's what he discovered (Are you sitting down?):
"The debt was $10.626 trillion on the day Mr. Obama took office. The latest calculation from Treasury shows the debt has now hit $14.639 trillion. It's the most rapid increase in the debt under any U.S. president. The national debt increased $4.9 trillion during the eight-year presidency of George W. Bush. The debt now is rising at a pace to surpass that amount during Mr. Obama's four-year term."
In yesterday's report I told that more and more economists are saying that the solution to our fiscal crisis is to stop spending and not to raise taxes as Obama demands.
The reason is simple: The more money you give Washington, the more you feed Big Government's insatiable appetite for your hard-earned tax dollars. And there are not enough "rich people" to pay for all of Obama's spending.
In 2009, the Tax Foundation ran the numbers and found that to balance the budget through tax increases alone, "Federal income tax rates would have to be nearly tripled across the income spectrum... tax rates would have to start at 27.2 percent and reach up to 95.2 percent."
Obama's Regulatory Regime
It's not just Obama's spending and tax increases that are hurting the economy. Obama has created a burgeoning regulatory regime that is suffocating small businesses and stunting private sector job creation. In a Washington Times op-ed today, Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming notes that the Obama Administration "has proposed more than 340 regulations at a cost of more than $65 billion to job creators." And that is just since the beginning of this year!
But what about President Obama's promise to review and rollback unnecessary, job-killing federal regulations? The best the administration has come up with is to decide that milk spills on dairy farms don't have to be treated like oil spills.
There is even more coming. Investor's Business Daily recently reported, "The Federal Register notes that more than 4,200 regulations are in the pipeline. That doesn't count impending clean air rules from the EPA, new derivative rules, or the FCC's net neutrality rule. Nor does that include recently announced fuel economy mandates or eventual ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank regulations."
That explains why Obama has increased the number of bureaucrats at regulatory agencies by 13% and boosted their budgets by 16%. Growing the government may be what Democrats do best, but it is not what our economy needs most right now.

Remembering the Dream or Rehashing the New Deal?
Martin Luther King is rightly remembered for his dream, first articulated on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial 48 years ago this Sunday, that the principles embodied in "the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence" would one day be vindicated and applied to all men, regardless of "the color of their skin." Few remember that in the ensuing years before his untimely death in 1968, King gradually abandoned the dream of equal rights and sought instead "the realization of equality" through government redistribution of wealth.
How fitting then that the new Martin Luther King Memorial, unveiled yesterday on the national mall in Washington, D.C., should stand between the Lincoln and FDR memorials-the former a tribute to the greatest champion of the Founders' vision of equality, the latter a monument to the President who redefined rights and expanded the reach of government like no one else.
The location of the Martin Luther King Memorial testifies to the two incompatible conceptions of equality and rights that King, at different times, defended. In commemorating his legacy however, King's earlier words and accomplishments should take precedence.
From his successful bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955, to the Selma campaign that led to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (without forgetting the March on Washington and the Birmingham campaign which culminated in the Civil Rights Act of 1964), King worked indefatigably to secure the civil and political rights of black Americans.
To fulfill his dream of integration, King also advocated an ethic of self-reliance and hard work, anchored in stable family structures. And for those on the secular Left who are quick to appropriate King, the obvious should be stated: the Reverend King drew strength from his faith and inspiration from the words of Scripture.
King's true legacy lies in his struggle for civil rights and in his defense of the American ideal of self-improvement through work. This is why we speak of "Martin Luther King's Conservative Legacy," of "The Conservative Virtues of Dr. Martin Luther King" and of "King's Conservative Mind."
We do so, however, while acknowledging that from 1965 onward-in the last three years of his life-King increasingly turned his attention away from civil rights issues to fighting poverty and protesting the Vietnam War. In doing so, his exhortations to work hard gave way to calls for government intervention. As he wrote in his 1967 book Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos Or Community?: "the ultimate way to diminish our problems of crime, family disorganization, illegitimacy and so forth will have to be found through a government program to help the frustrated Negro male find his true masculinity by placing him on his own two economic feet."
In focusing on the pre-1965 Martin Luther King, we do not conveniently cherry-pick those aspects of King's thoughts that we prefer. Rather, we honor his great and distinctive contributions to American history. And these contributions owe more to Lincoln than to FDR.

Stop Administrative Amnesty Today by Calling Your Representative and Telling Them to Co-Sponsor the HALT Act!
Stating that it makes "no sense" to use resources removing illegal aliens who have not yet been convicted of felonies, Secretary Janet Napolitano announced last week a plan to conduct a case-by-case review of all individual cases currently involved in removal proceedings. Such an approach will allow the Administration to dismiss all cases that do not meet its "highest priority," namely all illegal aliens who have not yet been convicted of a felony.
Not only will removal proceedings against "low priority" cases be dismissed, including all of those who would have been eligible under the repeatedly failed DREAM Act, the Administration plans to grant work authorization to those who have their cases dismissed. Such a policy is boldly ignoring what the American people have instructed Congress to authorize, and snubbing the votes of Congress, which has voted down the DREAM Act on multiple occasions.
To stop this continuous effort by the Obama Administration to bypass Congress, House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) last month introduced the "Hinder the Administration's Legalization Temptation Act" or the HALT Act (H.R. 2497). If enacted, the HALT Act would prevent the Administration from further abusing its prosecutorial discretion to grant administrative amnesty to certain classes of illegal aliens by suspending its ability to:
- Grant deferred action to illegal aliens;
- Grant parole or extended voluntary departure to illegal aliens who do not meet narrowly defined criteria;
- Cancel the removal and adjust the status of illegal aliens ordered deported; and
- Grant work authorization to illegal aliens.
Call your Representative and tell them the Administration's actions are an affront to the rule of law. Urge them to limit the Obama Administration's authority to administratively grant amnesty to illegal aliens by co-sponsoring the HALT Act today!

Four GOP candidates sign up for DeMint presidential forum  | Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul and Herman Cain have accepted invitations to a Sept. 5 forum in Columbia S.C. organized by Sen. Jim DeMint.
Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani were also invited. Rick Santorum & Jon Huntsman did not reach the required 5 percent threshold in the average of national polls.
The "American Principles Project Palmetto Freedom Forum," will be fronted by DeMint, Steve King and Robert George, a conservative legal scholar and the founder of the American Principles Project.
Candidates will take turns fielding questions from the trio of panelists for roughly 20 minutes at a time. Romney, Perry, Paul and Bachmann Tied With Obama  | A Gallup poll on Monday found Mitt Romney beating President Barack Obama among registered voters 48 percent to 46 percent. Obama was tied with Rick Perry with both candidates taking 47 percent.
Obama did better against two congressmen -- but just barely. The president led Ron Paul by only 2 percent, 47 percent to 45 percent. Michele Bachmann also came close to beating Obama 44 percent to 48 percent.
Considering a 4% margin of error Obama is tied with all 4 opponents.
Obama was losing among independents to most of the Republican hopefuls. Romney and Paul both led Obama by 3 percent among independents while Perry beat out the president by 2 points. New fight over balanced budget amendment to parallel next round of deficit cuts in fall  | As a "supercommittee" tries to find $1.5 trillion in new deficit cuts this fall, Republicans will be pressing to amend the Constitution to require the government to balance its budget.
The idea is being pushed most forcefully by conservatives eager to shrink government spending but disappointed with the results so far. Republican Congressman Pete Sessions of Texas says a balanced budget amendment is "the only permanent solution to control government spending."
Some Republicans fear the amendment could trigger higher taxes. They want to require two-thirds of Congress, not just a simple majority, to approve tax increases. Under this summer's debt ceiling-deficit deal, Congress has to vote on the amendment by Christmas. Three-fourths of the state legislatures would then have to ratify it. Chaffetz won't challenge Hatch in 2012 GOP Senate primary  | Chaffetz's decision follows diligent work by Hatch in recent months to shore up conservative support in order to fend off a primary challenge.
Hatch tacked to the right by partnering with Mike Lee, a Tea Party favorite, to forcefully support a balanced-budget amendment. Hatch also aligned himself with conservatives on a series of votes this session, voting against the most recent debt-ceiling compromise and against the 2011 budget compromise that prevented a government shutdown.
Hatch's campaign has courted high-profile conservative pundits to endorse his renomination. Radio hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin lent their support to Hatch, which his campaign proudly trumpeted.

Saucedo, who earns $9.70 an hour for about 26 hours a week and lives with her mother, is one of the many Americans who survive because of government handouts in what has rapidly become a food stamp nation.

Obama's claim that GOP is holding up trade deals

Those were pretty tough words by the president over the weekend - "the only thing preventing us from passing these bills is the refusal by some in Congress to put country ahead of party," referring to bills he suggests are bottled up in Congress, including free-trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama.
Not so fast, cry the Republicans: The White House has never submitted the trade bills to Congress for approval. The issue is so confusing - and Obama has been demanding immediate action for so long - that one White House spokesman actually expressed surprise this month when reporters noted the trade bills have not been submitted.

Morgan Stanley at brink got $107B from Fed

As markets convulsed in September 2008, Morgan Stanley (MS) Treasurer David Wong briefed the Federal Reserve on a "dark" scenario in which the U.S. firm would need at least $10 billion of emergency loans from the central bank.
It got 10 times darker by month's end. Morgan Stanley borrowed $107.3 billion, the most of any bank, according to data compiled by Bloomberg News using information released in response to Freedom of Information Act requests, related court orders and an act of Congress.

Social Security Disability on Verge of Insolvency
Laid-off workers and aging baby boomers are flooding Social Security's disability program with benefit claims, pushing the financially strapped system toward the brink of insolvency, reports the Associated Press.
- Applications are up nearly 50 percent over a decade ago as people with disabilities lose their jobs and can't find new ones in an economy that has shed nearly 7 million jobs.
- The stampede for benefits is adding to a growing backlog of applicants -- many wait two years or more before their cases are resolved -- and worsening the financial problems of a program that's been running in the red for years.
- New congressional estimates say the trust fund that supports Social Security disability will run out of money by 2017, leaving the program unable to pay full benefits, unless Congress acts.
- About two decades later, Social Security's much larger retirement fund is projected to run dry, too, leaving it unable to pay full benefits as well.
The trustees who oversee Social Security are urging Congress to shore up the disability system by reallocating money from the retirement program, just as lawmakers did in 1994. If Congress does not act, the disability program will collect only enough payroll taxes to pay about 85 percent of benefits after the trust fund is exhausted in 2017.
- Even if Congress does act, the combined retirement and disability trust funds are projected to run out of money in 2036, the trustees say.
- The new congressional report estimates the combined fund would run out of money in 2038.
- At that point, the combined programs would collect enough in payroll taxes to pay about three-fourths of benefits.

Last week, Republican apologists salivated at the news that Maxine Waters raised the roof at a public meeting in Detroit when she raised the possibility of publicly criticizing the president. The Beltway establishment played the clip of a black audience expressing disappointment with Barack Obama to the hilt while dreaming it signified that the president was "losing black support." This weekend, Waters used her newly conferred significance to say Obama must move leftward before shouting, "The Tea Party can go straight to Hell!"
This "maverick" routine is simply the latest attempt to redefine the political spectrum further to the Left. And the GOP fell for it hook, line, and sinker....

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time.
