Tel Aviv Stock Market Crashes as Panic Grips

Sunday, 07 Aug 2011

Hysteria swamped the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) today when the Tel Aviv 25 Index plunged 7 percent to 1,074.27 points, according to Globes.

The opening of trading was delayed nearly two hours, from the usual 9 a.m. to 10:44 a.m. when the automatic shut-off kicked in, Globes reported.

The panic came on the heels of the TASE's worst week since 2008, exacerbated by Standard $ Poor's downgrade of U.S. credit Friday night and Friday's steep drops in international stock markets. Also contributing were fears that Europe's debt crisis will spread.

S&P's Chambers: 1-in-3 Chance of Further US Downgrade

Sunday, 07 Aug 2011

Standard & Poor's Managing Director John Chambers said Sunday there is a 1-in-3 chance of a further U.S. credit rating downgrade over the next six months to two years.

"We have a negative outlook . . . from six months to 24 months," he said on ABC's "This Week."

"And if the fiscal position of the United States deteriorates further or if the political gridlock becomes more entrenched, then that could lead to a downgrade. The outlook indicates at least a one in three chance of a downgrade over that period."

Chambers said that it would take some time for the United States to recover its AAA rating.

"It would take a stabilization of the debt as a share of the economy and eventual decline. And it would take, I think, more ability to reach consensus in Washington than what we're observing now," he said.

Meanwhile, former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said he expects the stock market slide to continue in the wake of a decision by S&P to downgrade the U.S. credit rating.

Appearing Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," Greenspan said markets will take time to bottom out and that he expects a negative reaction on Monday to the S&P action.

But Greenspan also said he doesn't see any risk in investing in the United States and says that S&P's downgrade won't change that.

The former Fed chairman said the downgrade "hit a nerve" and is damaging to the psyche of the country. But he said he can't foresee a scenario in which the U.S. will default on its debts.

Press Release:

AFDI/SIOA 9/11 Freedom Rally:

Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America

NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.

Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."

AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.

The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.

Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. McCarthy; popular radio host Joyce Kaufman; Darla Dawald, National Director of the Patriot Action Network; James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST); Coptic Christian activist Joseph Nassralla; Iraqi ex-Muslim Paul Gaynos.

Hosting the rally are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.

Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York. Cordoba Initiative board member imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an open proponent of Sharia, Islamic law, a system that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. Given the thousands of triumphal mosques that have been built on the cherished sites of conquered peoples throughout Islamic history, the mosque leaders' claim that this mosque would be understood differently by Muslims worldwide lack foundation.

The Durban III conference follows upon two previous conferences that scapegoated and demonized the state of Israel in service of Islamic jihad and Islamic supremacist interests. The rally will defend Israel against the defamation to which it will be subjected at this conference. It will also call upon the city to remove roadblocks to the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed on 9/11 and since then mired in bureaucratic red tape that has prevented its rebuilding - in stark contrast to the help Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials have given to the Ground Zero Mosque project.

AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

Restoring Courage - Jerusalem 2011

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government.  We have talked to all the power brokers.  The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God.  It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.

"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand.  I ask you to join me.  I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth.  If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution.  This is a people of faith solution.  This is a people all over the world solution.  I ask you to help get this word out."

Patriots,

The Pa legislature is going to have its first hearing ever on a Right to Work package of legislation (House Bills 50-53). It will be held on Tuesday, August 16 from 1-4 p.m. in room 205 of the Ryan Office Building. There is no doubt that the unions will be out in force to try to intimidate members of the Labor committee. If you can get out to the hearing that would be great, please let as many people know about it as possible so members know that the grassroots support Right to Work.

Some of us would like to sit in on this hearing because -

·Warren Kampf serves on the House Labor Cmte and

·our presence might counter the expected labor union presence!

Sean Dempsey, Warren's district office manager, listed the individual bills:

HB 50 - Establishes a Right to Work law.

HB 51 - Establishes that Union Dues can not be automatically deducted from payroll

HB 52 - very similar to HB 51 in spirit

HB 53 - very similar again to HB 51

He said that "Generally Warren is for leveling the playing field for job creators and that is what these bills aim to do".

He cautioned this is a hearing and no vote is expected.

I think PA needs to be a RIGHT TO WORK state!

Warren's serving on this Labor & Industry Cmte adds another reason to attend.

Dear Patriot,

Our August meeting will be held in conjunction with the Kitchen Table Patriots to present a project to help ensure the integrity of our electoral process.  This is a genuine non-partisan issue.  Win or lose candidates for office should be able to rely on the officials who oversee the polls on Election Day so that every legitimate vote is counted.

"True the Vote" is an initiative developed by citizens for citizens, to inspire and equip volunteers for involvement at every stage of our electoral process and to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation.  We are looking for people to learn about this effort and get involved today to ensure we have valid elections for all.  Please join us August 8th.

First Annual Pennsylvania Freedom Run

Mr. President: It's Jerusalem, Israel

Dear Friend of Jerusalem,

If you are an American citizen born in Jerusalem, the United States Government will not include Israel as the place of birth on your passport. One Jerusalem is involved in an important effort to end this discrimination against Israel.

The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case brought by an American citizen born in Jerusalem. US citizen Menachem Zivotofsky was born in Jerusalem in 2002. The US State Department has refused to list "Jerusalem, Israel" as his place of birth on his passport and would only write "Jerusalem" instead. This is despite the fact that in 2002 Congress instructed the State Department to "record the place of birth as Israel" in passports of American children born in Jerusalem if their parents request it.

The Obama administration urged the Supreme Court not to hear the case. The Supreme Court justices instead not only agreed to hear the case, but also directed the two sides to address the broad question of whether the law "impermissibly infringes the president's power to recognize foreign sovereigns."

This case is especially important at a time when the US President has effectively endorsed the division of Jerusalem in calling for a return to the 1967 lines, while an overwhelming majority of Congress supports defensible borders and a united Jerusalem.

You can help in several ways:

  • Send a Letter to your Congressman and ask him to support an amicus brief that must be filed by August 5. Sample letter and relevant information can be found here.
  • Join other citizens born in Jerusalem, who also want 'Israel' listed on their passports. Join the Born In Jerusalem website here.

Sincerely,
Allen Roth & David Goder

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For August 8, 2011

1. Our Snake-bit President

You know, Barack Obama not only inherited a receding economy from George W. Bush, but he inherited a triple A credit rating too. Maybe we should call him Lemony Snicket, given the series of unfortunate events that have taken place on his watch.

There was the BP Oil spill and a terribly bungled Presidential response complete with a disastrous White House address. The Gulf Coast is still reeling from the loss of jobs the President's policies then caused.

There was and is the botched debacle in Libya where we may or may not be involved while we ignore the same thing happening in Syria. We are, after all, "leading from behind."

Then there was, going all the way back to the beginning, his bungled diplomatic support for the communist sympathizers in Honduras against that nation's own constitutional, democratic processes.

Along the way, federal spending has gone up 76% from the time we got our last tax cuts, tax revenue has gone down due to economic conditions (not the Bush tax cuts), the number of people who have given up on searching for unemployment is the most it has been since 1983 and the number of people on food stamps is more than ever.

In fact, during this President's tenure, we've reached benchmarks not seen since the Great Depression in terms of negative economic news. His is a food stamp Presidency.

Now the stock market has gone down due a series of unfortunate events in a daily succession not seen since Jimmy Carter. But according to our President, that's all because of the Arab Spring, mother nature, George Bush, and those damned Europeans. Please ignore all this about it being his economy.

"Give it to me," he said of the economy. We did and on Friday we lost our credit rating.

On Saturday, Seal Team Six got blown out of the sky in Afghanistan.

At least Katrina happened under someone else's watch.

And hey!, there'll always be Bin Laden, and we can presume the President knows it as he is helping Hollywood roll out a movie about it right before the election to help his poll numbers.

At some point we might want to consider that this President's Presidency is snake bit.

Through it all, the man has refused any responsibility and, if anything, behaved more like a professional victim than a leader. His Presidency's motto is not "the buck stops here," but "it's all George Bush's fault".

Of course, George W. Bush, even with a Congress controlled by Democrats, did not lose us our AAA credit rating and somehow was able to make progress without throwing up his hands and blaming gridlock. Maybe the Presidency is just too much for Barack Obama.

2. Only the Tea Party Had a $4 Trillion Plan

"S&P's [John] Chambers is saying the ratings agency wants to see at least a $4 trillion deal, one that would come with bipartisan support, too, because the ratings agency fears without that support, Congress will upend any debt-cutting plan."

There was only ever one plan that did what S&P said was required - $4 trillion in cuts with bipartisan support. That'd be Cut, Cap, and Balance - a plan that cut $4 trillion and got bipartisan support in the House of Representatives.

As Democrats tonight, and some Republicans, lash out and blame the Tea Party for causing the United States to lose its credit rating, it is worth pointing out that only the Tea Party offered up a plan to avoid what happened.

This is precisely why the GOP should have held the line.

3. The GOP Should Be Mindful Of August And Take Back Up Holding the Line

A funny thing happens each August in Washington. The politicians leave and the press gets bored. It is the August silly season where stories start that sometimes snowball.

Monica Lewinsky started around August. The Chandra Levy story started in August. The "does Bush vacation too much" story started around August. The Cindy Sheehan stories started around August/ When the House GOP parked itself on the floor of the House with the lights out, that too was August.

These stories take on a life of their own with a bored press covering no news. So we can expect that the debt ceiling story and the credit rating will take on a life of its own. And we can already see online and in the press that the White House spin will be to blame the GOP and Tea Party.

The White House no longer has a commander in chief in charge, but a professional victim. Last week, it was the Arab Spring, those damn Europeans, Mother Nature, etc. Now it is all about those evil tea partiers.

For three years, Barack Obama has blamed George W. Bush for all his ills. Yes, it is true, Barack Obama inherited an economy sliding backward. But it is also true Barack Obama inherited a AAA credit rating from George W. Bush. Obama's policies have exacerbated a bad economy and caused us to lose our credit rating.

But still, expect a full court press to blame the GOP and Tea Party.

So I have some quick advice for the GOP.

4. Left Rushs to Blame the GOP for S&P Downgrade

The S&P has downgraded American credit from AAA to AA+, the first time in history. The left is scrambling to blame the GOP for this and is fixated on one paragraph.

5. Your Exciting Facts of the Day

With more and more media speculation that Rick Perry is getting in, I'm getting questions from reporters about a projected budget deficit in Texas and several of the reporters make clear that the Democrats are the ones pushing this.

Let's be clear about a few things:

1. Rick Perry has never signed into law a budget that did not balance while Barack Obama's own budget was rejected 97 to 0 by the United States Senate and never balanced. In fact, for the first time in at least 50 years, this year Rick Perry signed into law a budget that was actually less than the prior year's budget - a real cut to government, not just a cut to growth rates.

and my new personal favorite:

2. Rick Perry and Barack Obama both inherited credit ratings from George W. Bush. Perry raised his inherited credit rating to AA+ from AA and Barack Obama lowered his inherited credit rating from AAA to AA+.

6. Ron Johnson's Blue-Slipping of Joe Biden's Victoria Nourse.

Let me tell you a tale of the incompetence of Vice President Joe Biden. Trust me, this one is even better than usual.

Once upon a time, back in the days when Joe Biden was a bad Senator instead of a bad Vice President, he had a staffer named Victoria Nourse. Ms. Nourse's major claim to fame was 'helping' to write the (later deemed partially-unconstitutional) Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) that was one of Senator Biden's signature pieces of legislation; 'helped' is in square quotes because originally Biden took full credit for the law - like Biden typically does - until he got caught at it in 2007. This was, of course, perhaps a little awkward... but then events transpired in 2008 that Senator Biden became Vice President Biden, which meant that Ms. Nourse could be given a nice consolation prize of a federal judgeship.

7. RS Gathering: Book Now!

If you have not booked your room for the RedState Gathering, do it now. We are running out of rooms fast and in a few days there will be none left at the venue hotels.

The Third Annual RedState Gathering is coming up very soon - and we'd like to invite you to attend.

With the race for the GOP presidential nomination shifting into high gear, this much-anticipated annual gathering promises to be the best one yet.

It will be held on August 12-14 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina - and will feature as its keynote speaker South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, along with Governor Rick Perry, Senator Jim DeMint, and many more. You can find the full agenda here.

Conservative party piece:

On being served Fair Trade coffee, take a sip, then spit it out in horror and disgust. Gag: "My God! This is Fair Trade! Don't you know I never do Fair Trade stuff? Fair Trade is evil." Explain the reason for your principled objection: by overpaying certain favored suppliers, Fair Trade sends out incorrect price signals that distort the market. If coffee prices are low, it's not a sign that well-meaning liberals should be emotionally blackmailed into paying more; it's a sign of over supply which-were the market allowed to work correctly-would send a signal to farmers to diversify their portfolio of crops.

Wonder aloud to your liberal friends:

Why was it okay for Obama to accept more than a million inflation-adjusted dollars from Goldman Sachs employees if it was wrong, as liberals protested at the time, for George W. Bush to accept less than one-seventh as much (less than 150,000-inflation adjusted dollars) from Enron? Then wonder aloud at the brilliance of Goldman Sachs-investing in its own bailout and (with donations to the man sure to take his place) buying top-notch jobs in the Obama administration for a discount price.

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
  • provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

  • Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
  • If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
  • And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Government to Monitor Social Networks For "Extremist Propaganda"

New White House plan follows Pentagon advisory targeting protests against Federal Reserve

Government to Monitor Social Networks For Extremist Propaganda Female Facebook User

A new strategy document released by the White House promises to "closely monitor...the Internet and social networking sites" in order to "counter online violent extremist propaganda" as the federal government attempts to embed itself further in local communities under the guise of preventing domestic extremism.

The document, Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States [1] (PDF), focuses on identifying Americans who have supposedly been radicalized or groomed by Al-Qaeda to carry out attacks in the United States.

As the L.A. Times notes [2], the plan involves "federal departments not usually associated with national security," and is heavily focused around increasing the federal government's involvement with schools and the "emotional and behavioral development" of young people.

The document defines extremist propaganda as that which is used to "feed on grievances" and "assign blame." The government vows to "aggressively" combat such ideology by "continuing to closely monitor the important role the internet and social networking sites play in advancing violent extremist narratives."

Israel Bows to Obama's 1967 Borders Pressure

Posted by P. David Hornik

Media reports quote anonymous Israeli officials saying Israel has decided, after all, to negotiate a two-state arrangement with the Palestinians based on the 1967 borders. The reports have a certain shock value; reading between the lines, the shock dissipates somewhat.

AP calls it a "dramatic policy shift" and cites a report on Israel's Channel 2 TV that said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is now "basically accepting the framework" of the 1967 lines, broached by President Obama-with much shock value-last May. AP also says an Israeli official "would not deny the TV report, while refusing to confirm the specifics. He emphasized that Israel would not withdraw from all of the West Bank."

AP quotes the official: "We are willing in a framework of restarting the peace talks to accept a proposal that would contain elements that would be difficult for Israel and we would find very difficult to endorse."

AP continues: "Part of the reason, he said, was that Israel is seeking to persuade the Palestinians to drop their initiative to win UN recognition of their state next month...."

This Is the Country We're Saving

Pedophilia, forced marriages, blasphemy trials and drug dealing. That is the real Afghanistan. The one that lingers on even when the Taliban are chased into the hills. That cannot be changed by American intervention because this is who its people are.

We might have been able to save Afghanistan from the Taliban, but we can't save it from the Afghans. From the quarreling clans and warlords, the age old customs and the Islamic mores. Beyond a sliver of Western educated men and women in Kabul lies a land of a thousand cruelties and a million knives. With a vendetta around every corner and murder in every heart.

There is no Afghanistan, only a thousand divisions. The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan that replaced the Taliban's Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, is an internationally funded mirage. A multi-billion dollar fund with its own flag and its own mercenaries. And because these mercenaries won't fight, our soldiers go out to fight and die in their place.

Creeping Islamism in Scandinavia

Posted by Ryan Mauro Bio ↓ on Aug 4th, 2011

The despicable but successful attacks in Norway by Anders Breivik stand in contrast to Al-Qaeda's difficulties in carrying out similar dramatic acts of terror. This may cause the threat from anti-Muslim extremism to rise above radical Islam in the minds of the Western public. There is a risk that growing Islamist trends in Scandinavia will be overshadowed because of the shock caused by Breivik's attacks.

Denmark has been a top terrorist target since the publication of the cartoons denigrating Mohammed. On January 1, 2010, a Somali member of al-Shabaab tried to murder the cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard, with an axe at his home. Two terrorists connected to Lashkar-e-Taiba were arrested in Chicago in November 2009, one of which had conducted surveillance in Denmark in preparation for an attack. In September 2010, a Chechen accidentally set off his letter bomb in a hotel bathroom in Copenhagen. He was found with the address of the newspaper that published the cartoons.

Norway is understandably fixated on right-wing extremism following Breivik's attacks, but it is also dealing with a serious Islamist problem

Redford's Weather Underground Whitewash

Earlier this year Robert Redford - former Hollywood heartthrob, founder of the Sundance Institute, and a progressive activist with connections to the leftist puppetmaster George Soros - released his first film as a director since 2007. The Conspirator was his thinly-veiled attack on Bush's war on terror posing as a docudrama about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Now Redford seems poised to turn the lens of his historical revisionism on a whitewashing of the '60s and '70s domestic terrorists of the Weather Underground.

When Leadership Has an Expiration Date

Posted by Alan W. Dowd Bio ↓ on Aug 4th, 2011

With an election year fast approaching, the president delivered a speech that's been overlooked by too many Americans and overshadowed by too many events. At a time when the burdens on America seem to be growing heavier by the day, it's a speech all Americans should read and a message, one would think, all Americans could rally around.

"This is a very dangerous and uncertain world," the president began. "We should realize what a burden and responsibility the people of the United States have borne for so many years...We put ourselves, by our own will and by necessity, into defensive alliances with countries all around the globe"-alliances that "would collapse overnight" were it not for American leadership. "Without the United States, there would be no NATO. And gradually Europe would drift into neutralism and indifference," he added, almost as if to warn the isolationists on his right and utopians on his left of what their policies could spawn.

Conceding that Americans "would like to live as we once lived...uninterested in the struggles of the world," he concluded that "history will not permit it." Whether or not we seek a special role in the world, "We are still the keystone in the arch of freedom."

It's worth noting that the president who delivered this powerful message was not Barack Obama, but rather John F. Kennedy. At once inspiring and yet deflating, the words come from his last speech on foreign policy.

A Caged Mubarak in the Dock

Posted by Rick Moran Bio ↓ on Aug 4th, 2011

In a scene most Egyptians believed would never happen, former President Hosni Mubarak, confined to a stretcher, was wheeled into a cage in a makeshift courtroom at the national police academy, located in a suburb east of Cairo. He is to stand trial for corruption and for the murders of nearly 850 protesters slain during the uprising last winter. As many Egyptians revel in the dramatic event, other spectators cannot overlook troubling changes in their country's political landscape. For even if justice is served in the trial, the fear remains that the fall of Mubarak heralds the rise of something much worse.

The trial begins just days after hundreds of thousands of Salafists poured into Tahrir Square calling for Egypt to become an Islamist state and adopt Sharia as the law of the land. The demonstration, which shocked many analysts with its organization and discipline, raised the specter of a union between the Salafists, represented by their political party Al Nour or "The Light," and the Muslim Brotherhood. The alliance threatens to sweep Islamic extremists into power when the elections are held in November or December.

"Christian Terrorism"?

Posted by Raymond Ibrahim Bio ↓ on Aug 5th, 2011

In light of the Norway terrorist attack, and as expected, the hail of religious relativism has begun-the idea that, if a "Christian," such as Breivik, commits terrorism, then it is folly to assert that certain Muslim doctrines inspire violence and terror: all becomes relative.  A recent AP report titled "'Christian terrorist'? Norway case strikes debate," makes this clear:

As westerners wrestle with such characterizations of the Oslo mass murder suspect, the question arises: Nearly a decade after 9/11 created a widespread suspicion of Muslims based on the actions of a fanatical few, is this what it's like to walk a mile in the shoes of stereotype?  "Absolutely," said Mark Kelly Tyler, pastor of Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. "It clearly puts us in a position where we can't simply say that extreme and violent behavior associated with a religious belief is somehow restricted to Muslim extremists."  "It speaks to cultural assumptions, how we are able to understand something when it (comes from) us," Tyler said. "When one of us does something terrible, we know that's not how we all think, yet we can't see that with other people."  Psychologists say stereotypes come from a deeply human impulse to categorize other people, usually into groups of "us" and "them."

The report goes on to give the opinions of an array of sociologists, anthropologists, and psychologists, who regurgitate the same aforementioned themes on "a fanatical few," "extreme and violent behavior," "cultural assumptions," and "stereotypes."

Yet not once do any of these soft-scientists bother investigating, let alone pointing out, what Christianity and Islam actually teach regarding violence.

Nor do they seem cognizant that there is a major difference between what people do in the name of religion and what the religion itself commands-just as there is a major difference between historical descriptions of war in the Bible and timeless prescriptions to wage war in the Koran (see "Are Judaism and Christianity as Violent as Islam?" for a full treatment of these issues).

The Constitution provides no authority for the federal government to be involved in education. Most educational problems arise at the local level and can't be solved by bureaucrats who now are running more than 200 programs in Washington. Questions about the need for a federal Department of Education have been raised for years.

China: Pakistan's True Ally

Posted by Stephen Brown Bio ↓ on Aug 5th, 2011

Uighurs terrorists

While it blatantly betrayed America for almost a decade regarding Osama bin Laden, recent terrorist attacks by Islamists in western China reveal who Pakistan views as its true ally.

In the middle of July, "an organised terrorist attack" on a police station in western China's restive, Muslim-majority Xinjiang region left 14 people dead. About 18 Uighurs, carrying a flag with the Arab words for "Holy War" written on it, were blamed for the deadly assault.

The Uighurs are a Muslim Turkic people, native to the region and numbering about ten million out of a population of about 22 million. Some want independence from China and have angrily opposed the influx of Han Chinese immigrants. Simmering tensions between the two ethnics groups exploded in violence in 2009 that saw about 200 people killed.

Last weekend, China experienced two more terrorist attacks in Xinjiang that left 19 dead, including five terrorists. On Saturday, an hour after two bombs exploded, a truck hijacked by two Islamic terrorists slammed into a group of people, after which they got out and stabbed innocent bystanders, causing eight deaths. The following day, after burning down a restaurant, a larger group of Uighur terrorists began to randomly stab passers-by, killing several.

Unlike with other terrorist attacks worldwide with connections to Pakistan, the Pakistani intelligence agency, the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), reacted immediately to last weekend's Chinese incidents. That's because a captured Uighur terrorist confessed the leaders of Sunday's Islamist attackers had received training in Pakistan in camps of the banned extremist East Turkistan Islamic Movement. So in contrast to its stonewalling behaviour regarding bin Laden, the ISI sent straightway Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, the agency's director general, to Beijing. The Pakistani government also stated it was extending its "full support" to China on this matter.

"We cannot allow Pakistani territory to be used for any activities against any neighbour, especially a close ally like China," said the chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute. "There are strong ties between China and Pakistan, and we are cooperating closely on this issue."

It's unfortunate, however, that America does not get the same consideration and "full support," especially when it comes to jihadists using Pakistani soil to launch attacks against NATO and Afghan troops in neighbouring Afghanistan.

Market Madness

Like a bursting dam, the nation's debt gushed soon after a deal on the debt ceiling was reached. On Tuesday, America endured a largest-in-history one day bump of $239 billion, increasing the national debt from $14.294 trillion to hit $14.532 trillion, according to the Treasury Department. As a result, two daunting realities were revealed. First, that the bump represents 60 percent of the initial $400 billion in borrowing authorized by the debt ceiling deal. Second, America's borrowing now exceeds 100 percent of GDP for the first time since 1947. Meanwhile, key economic indicators are sagging. The obvious question: is America headed for a double-dip recession?

An idea considered remote as recently as two months ago is now gaining steam. The economy is at a virtual standstill with a 1.3 percent gain in GDP for the second quarter, well below previous estimates of 2 percent. Furthermore, first quarter estimates, initially registered at 1.9 percent, were revealed to be an abysmal 0.4 percent - meaning they were overstated by a factor of almost five.

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, growth below 2 percent has signaled a recession six-out-of-seven times since 1970. Justin Wolfers, associate professor of business and public policy at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, who thinks the economy is on "the knife's edge," contends that another recession may already be occurring, noting that we're only "one data revision away" from such a reality.

Why Chris Christie Will Never Be President of the United States

by Daniel Pipes
August 5, 2011

http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2011/08/why-chris-christie-will-never-be-president

Chris Christie, the New Jersey governor since 2010, has qualities and achievements that appeal to mainstream conservatives, from his direct style to his impressive budget cutting. As a result, he has won support to run as a Republican candidate for president of the United States.

New Jersey governor Chris Christie.

But Christie has an Achilles Heel that gives one pause.

He came under criticism from fellow conservatives for nominating Sohail Mohammed, an Islamist who aspires to apply Islamic law, the Shari'a, as a state superior court judge; for an outline of these concerns, see the Investigative Project on Terrorism, "Gov. Christie's Strange Relationship with Radical Islam."

In response, Christie delivered a tirade on July 26, 2011, on the topic of Shari'a:

Sharia law has nothing to do with this [i.e., the appointment of Sohail Mohammed] at all. It's crazy. It's crazy. ... So, this Sharia law business is crap. It's just crazy. And I'm tired of dealing with the crazies. I mean, you know, it's just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background. [Excerpt from 2:43 on the video.]

Comments: (1) These are fighting words against fellow conservatives that will not soon be forgotten: "this Sharia law business is crap. It's just crazy. And I'm tired of dealing with the crazies."

Cannibals, Vampires and Terrorists-- Oh My!

Joe Biden has compared the Tea Party to terrorists. Maureen Dowd compared them to cannibals and vampires. Then having run out of mythical monsters, or monsters they believe are mythical, there was nothing to do but roll out a few more articles about the Republican Party being taken over by Dittoheads from Outer Space.

What's interesting about all this Pravdaesque bile is that the focus of liberal rage and terror is aimed at the grass roots. The left dismisses the Republican party as an organization of bankers and capitalists counting their money in between making orphans sweep their chimneys, but then when a populist wave sweeps across it-- they pen dismal articles longing for the days when reasonable country club republicans ran things.

Say what you will about the closeted northeastern establishment which donates to gay rights in between golfing sessions, it knows how to be reasonable. Sometimes it's so reasonable that it scares itself. But in between listening to Chamber of Commerce lobbyists explain why America needs illegal aliens and why their chosen industry needs subsidies-- a different element crept in. A strange creature known as the American voter showed up and demanded to be heard.

Tariq Ramadan and Cultural Jihad

Amil Imani

On July 27, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in Richardson, Texas, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), Dallas chapter, featured Dr. Tariq Ramadan, a highly controversial Islamic scholar, for their annual fundraising to Support Religious Freedom & Sharia Awareness.

ICNA, an offshoot of the Muslim Students' Association (MSA), was founded by Muslim immigrants from the Indian subcontinent, and its members are mostly South Asian descent, primarily Pakistanis, Bengalis and Indians. Among many of its goals, "shall be to seek the pleasure of Allah through the struggle of Iqamat-ud-Deen [establishment of the Islamic system of life] as spelled out in the Quran and the Sunnah of [Muhammad]."

Steven Emerson and the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) have documented the fact that ICNA is a militant Islamic fundamentalist organization, and supports terrorism. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has accused ICNA of inviting extremist and anti-Semitic  speakers to its conferences that serve as platforms for extremist views. ICNA has also put up huge billboards, festooning major highways, such as the one along Highway 101 and Tully Road in San Jose, California, with crafty messages. Bold letters on the billboard proclaim: Islam You Deserve to Know. A toll-free number, 1-877-WhyIslam and website, WhyIslam.org beckon the public to get the real scoop about the "religion of peace" with its ceaseless violent record from its inception to this day.

Dr. Ramadan's presence could have gone relatively unnoticed in the Dallas Metroplex, except for the man's lengthy record of subversive campaigns and activities. Tariq was banned from the United States for six-years (a visa restriction lifted last January by Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton).

Why is he welcomed again in this country? Has he mended his ways? Not a chance. Secretary Clinton, for whatever reasons, has decided to let the man come and carry on with his dangerous work.

sharia law

sharia law

Fellow patriots,

This is another one of those gotta-see-it-to-believe-it videos coming out of London.

In it, you will see a news broadcaster interviewing people about the new Shariah-Compliant zones that Islamists are trying to set up in London.

While the Islamist behavior is disturbing, it's not particularly surprising.

What IS surprising is the British response: Police take down the "Shariah Compliant Zone" posters when they find them.  OOOOhh...THAT should get the Islamists quaking in their boots!

In other words, the police know exactly who's doing this and the plans for physically enforcing Shariah with gangs of Islamists, and yet they have done essentially NOTHING about it.

This is a seditious conspiracy in blatant terms.  What's stopping Britain from dealing with these people?  Seriously...WHAT IS STOPPING THEM?

I sure wish someone would come out and say it, because from here it looks like a combination of incomprehension, spinelessness, and fear.  Has the bulldog become a miniature poodle?

Attorney General Releases Murdering Terrorists Upon Request

Written on August 6, 2011 by Giacomo

Attorney General Eric Holder, head of the Department of Justice, has been setting militant members of the New Black Panthers, Malik Zulu Shabazz and Jerry Jackson free.  Shabazz is the national head of the New Black Panthers and Jackson is a member of the Philadelphia Black Panthers and a Democratic Party official.

J. Christian Adams, a former Department of Justice attorney had worked in the Civil Rights Division where he had brought charges of violation of civil rights against two members of the New Black Panther group for voter intimidation.  He had a strong case against the two men, but Attorney General Eric Holder refused to press the charges any further and both men were released and the case dropped.

As a result of the DOJ's failure to support the prosecution of civil rights violators, Adams resigned from his position with the department.

Now Adams is reporting that Attorney General Eric Holder has released another black militant that makes Shabazz and Jackson look like choir boys.

"The White House Does Not Create Jobs"

Never were truer words spoken. At yesterday's press briefing, White House spokesman Jay Carney admitted: "The White House does not create jobs." As the Examiner's senior political columnist Timothy P. Carney (no relation) later noted, conservatives should greet this statement as "a true and long-awaited admission of government's limits."

Despite the now-admitted fact that the President does not create jobs, President Obama continues to manipulate the economy from the West Wing, offering "stimulus" here, threatening higher taxes there, and picking and choosing which industry can thrive and which cannot under his watch.

Some are concerned about the United Nations new firearms treaty.

A controversial U.N. proposed treaty aimed at regulating guns worldwide has been shrouded by confusion and misinformation.

Known informally as the 'Small Arms Treaty,' its detractors have charged the proposed agreement with secretly trying to take guns out of the hands of Americans and circumventing the 2nd Amendment.

While that is unlikely, a working draft proposal obtained by FoxNews.com contains language that some gun advocates say could have a real impact on American gun makers.

Chronicles of Ill-Liberalism

Perhaps the hallmark of historic liberalism, at least the 19th century variety of Thomas Jefferson or John Stuart Mill as well as mid-20th century liberals, was toleration and free expression.  But does anyone doubt for a nanosecond that if those who today call themselves "liberals" had the power to do so, they'd censor or shut down Fox News and Rush Limbaugh immediately?  That's what the attempted revival of the "Fairness Doctrine" is all about, since for liberals "fairness" means stopping any fight where they're losing.

So check out good ol' John Kerry (who fought in Vietnam, I have heard) on Friday lecturing the media on its "responsibility" not to give equal time to the Tea Party, because, obviously, the Tea Party is wrong, and as such liberals shouldn't have to defend themselves or even argue to matter to a public too stupid to be convinced of who their betters really are.

Environmentalists Blamed for Deadly Bedbug Plague

Government policies on the use of pesticides have led to a resurgent population of bedbugs - including some that carry a deadly antibiotic-resistant germ.

Bedbugs had been almost completely eradicated in the United States for half a century through the use of the now-banned pesticide DDT, but their population has grown rapidly during the past decade, overwhelming hotels, hospitals, schools, and apartment buildings, according to a report from the Heartland Institute.

Canadian researchers have recently discovered bedbugs carrying methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). MRSA is a bacterial infection that is highly resistant to some antibiotics and can be deadly if it reaches the bloodstream.

H. Sterling Burnett, a senior fellow with the National Center for Policy Analysis, blames the bedbug resurgence on "poor policy decisions."

He told Heartland Institute: "Most households have never seen a bedbug before now. But in the early 1970s, the government banned the pesticide DDT, and now we're seeing bedbug infestations in European and North American cities.

"This is another legacy of Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring,' the 1962 book credited with starting the environmental movement, leading to the ban of DDT.

"By banning DDT, we've killed people in developing countries through the spread of malaria. Now we're subjecting the U.S. population to bedbugs and other pests and vermin.

"Government should lift the ban on DDT and other pesticides that are effective in treating pests like bedbugs."

Angela Logomasini, director of risk and environmental policy with the Competitive Enterprise Institute, agrees.

"We had eradicated bedbugs in the past, then we banned DDT for home use, and now they're back. I think this policy needs to be reevaluated."

She also said, "We need a better regulatory environment. Rather than removing products from the shelves, which is where we are today because of the precautionary principle, more evaluation and experimentation is needed."

Food stamp usage hit record levels in May

Great job America!

Nearly 15% of Americans relied on food stamps to get by in May, bringing the total number of users of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to a record-breaking 45.8 million, CNN Money reports.

That's a 12% increase over last year, and a 34% increase since two years ago. A weak jobs market and rising food prices have forced more Americans to rely on food stamps in recent years.

Fannie Mae loss widens; asking taxpayers for $2.8B

Fannie Mae is a loser

Government-controlled mortgage company Fannie Mae said Friday that its second-quarter loss widened as it continues to seek loan modifications to help reduce defaults amid the ongoing difficulties in the housing and mortgage markets.

Fannie Mae also made $2.3 billion in dividend payments to the U.S. Treasury during the period, which reduces the amount it will be asking taxpayers for to $2.8 billion from $5.1 billion.

Beneath jobs report surface lie some ugly truths

Factor in 'discouraged workers'

Before getting too excited about the modest uptick in net job creation and a slight downward move in the unemployment rate, it's probably worth a look under the hood.

As is usually the case, there is far more than meets the eye to the Labor Department's report that the economy added 117,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate fell to 9.1 percent.

Fellow Patriots,

Let's try to figure this one out: We just had a leader of a polygynous cult, who was convicted after only 3 1/2 hours of having sex with under-age girls, one 12 and on 15.  He now faces a penalty of life in prison.  That's a pretty strong condemnation of polygamous sex involving under-aged girls, one that most of us would fully endorse.

And yet, how many leaders, from teachers to professors to politicians going up to the President, have spoken of Muhammad and the religion he founded, Islam, in glowing terms?  Do they have any sense of cognitive dissonance when they simultaneously praise one man and condemn the other?

Warren Jeffs differs little from Muhammad in behavior.  While we must admit that Muhammad had "only" 12 wives, one of them was only 9 when he consummated his marriage to her, beating Jeffs by 3 years, which is important when one considers that 9 is barely pubescent.

Both men considered themselves to be "prophets," which in their minds gave them the right to redefine notions of right and wrong in their own image.  In both cases, their followers believe that they have a right to live by their own law without regard to the law of the land.  The reason this is such a dangerous concept is that it basically destroys the entire concept of law.  What kind of world would we have if each of us felt we had a right to make up our own laws as we went along?  The result would be lawlessness in the truest sense of the word.

When we look at the differences between these two men, Muhammad is clearly far more violent.  Despite propaganda to the contrary, Muhammad initiated warfare against numerous other groups, ranging from caravan raids on vital Meccan trade routes to unprovoked war against the Persian Empire.  Furthermore, Jeff's law only applied to his own followers and did not seek to persecute those who didn't follow him, while Muhammad taught his followers to persecute and ultimately eliminate non-Muslims.

Of the two, I would say that Warren Jeffs is the better man, disgusting as he is.

You may want to mention this the next time you hear anyone say something positive about Muhammad or Islam.  Alternatively, if our leaders continue to praise Muhammad, we may one day find ourselves living according to Muhammad's law, in which case we would look back on Warren Jeffs as a man persecuted by an unjust -- because it is unIslamic -- law.

Please spread the word,

Dave

The anniversary of 9/11 is coming up.  We must never forget what happened and who was responsible.  The threat is still with us of more destruction to come.  Those radical islamist tell us so all the time.  We all seem to dismiss it.  We must press our Congress to look into all those who may be amongst us now training and getting ready to launch another attack.  We must never allow a mosque to built any where near that sacred ground.  Please be at the rally on 9/11 as the Mayor has given approval for the mosque to be built.

We the people must rise up and say NO!

Obama's Approval Hits All-Time Low Among Poor and Segment of Middle Class, Says Gallup
By Terence P. Jeffrey
CNSNews.com

A week that began with President Barack Obama going on national television to pitch his vision for a debt-limit deal in terms that pitted "millionaires and billionaires" against "everyone else," ended with the president receiving his lowest-ever weekly approval ratings in the Gallup poll from the poorest Americans (those earning less than $2,000 per month) and from one segment of the middle class (those earning between $5,000 and $7,499 per month).

In fact, according to Gallup, Obama enjoys no more approval among the poorest Americans today than he does among the richest-and he enjoys significantly less approval among middle class Americans earning between $5,000 to $7,499 than he does among the richest Americans as measure by the income brackets reported by Gallup (those earning $7,500 per month or more).

A longtime prolife activist who is a licensed lawyer in Kansas and has been admitted to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court is arguing before the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that those who influence court-related decisions should be held accountable for their statements.

The issue being raised by Bryan J. Brown, now of ArchAngel Institute, follows his rejection by the Indiana Board of Law Examiners for permission to practice law in that state. The decision followed reports from a state organization called the Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program that included comments from outside evaluators who were critical of his Roman Catholic beliefs.

Jesus, Mary and ... Josephine? It's Lesbian Nativity at Church
By Joe Kovacs
WorldNetDaily

The Bible's account of the night Jesus was born is noted for some well-known characters at the Bethlehem manger, including the baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and some shepherds following the instructions of an angel. ... Now a Christian church in America's heartland is helping redefine the story, as its most-recent living Nativity scene in December featured two women instead of a man and a women starring as Joseph and Mary.

"It's not very groundbreaking at all to use the youngest baby in the congregation to play the role of Jesus. The parents just happened to be two women," said Rev. Linda Butler, pastor of St. Timothy's United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. "They were playing the role of the Holy Family, not necessarily Mary and Joseph. We never referred to the moms as Mary and Joseph. We referred to them as the Holy Family.

IRS: Not enough rich to cover the deficit

August 5, 2011 by Don Surber

Soak the rich, eh?

They do not have the money.

A report from the Internal Revenue Service found that the rich - 8,274 people with incomes of $10 million per year or more - earned a total of $240 billion in 2009.

Even of you confiscated every dime they earned, you would barely have enough money to cover government spending for 24 days.

Of course, about a quarter of that money already goes to the federal government for federal income. So make that 18 days.

Welcome To August Action!

When President Obama signed the final deal to increase the debt ceiling earlier this week, he kicked the can further down the road instead of addressing our nation's fiscal problems now. The deal falls dramatically short of the goals of "Cut, Cap, Balance", legislation which was championed by FreedomWorks, a broad coalition of grassroots groups and Tea Party lawmakers.

But what we saw in this debate was a liberal President, a Democrat-controlled Senate and a Republican-controlled House all shift their positions toward the Tea Party. When we made our voices heard, everyone started talking about spending cuts not tax increases.

So as Congress now breaks for their August recess, your Representative will be holding town hall meetings over the next few weeks in your community. I need you to show up at these town halls and make YOUR voice heard again.

We've set up our August Action center on FreedomConnector, where you can get the FREE tools you need for town hall meetings this August: strategy memos, talking points, a map of town hall locations and more. Click here to go to August Action to get your free kit!

Their recess means it's time for us to take action. Conservative radio host Glenn Beck recently joined us by endorsing our August action plan live on the air:

"FreedomWorks and I are launching a major and powerful nationwide project designed to remind your Congressmen and Senators that you mean business. Remember when folks started realizing the Tea Party movement was for real? One of the biggest turning points was when the Tea Party members started taking over town hall meetings two summers ago. They couldn't ignore it. Your elected officials are home for the August recess, and it's time to take a little August Action." -- Glenn Beck

Go to August Action right now, download your free kit, and find your elected officials' town halls! Don't see a town hall in your area? Call your Representative, find out where they are hosting one, and create the town hall as an event on the August Action page so other activists can find it.

Don't forget to bring your camera, video camera or notepad to your Representative's town hall this August. You can add pictures, video and an after-action report at August Action to help us tell the real story about the town halls and counter the liberal media spin machine.

August Action is simply the best place for Tea Party members to get organized for August Recess.

"Everything you need to be effective, the tools are all there and they're there for free at August Action...Go there now get the free tools you need to turn up the heat this summer," -- Glenn Beck.

As I said before, at August Action you'll find free memos and talking points on important issues. You can use this information to ask questions during your Representative's town hall meeting. In our August Action kit you'll find out why we need to:

  • Support the Lee/Wash Balanced Budget Amendment.
  • Force Congress' new "super committee" to cut more spending than was in the debt ceiling deal.
  • Stop the regulatory train wreck at Obama's EPA.
  • Support Rep. Connie Mack's Penny Plan to reduce federal spending.
  • Push Congress to recognize the ideas of our Tea Party Debt Commission.

All these issues are critically important. The Left is already organizing to show up in town halls across America to drown out our message of limited government, free markets and individual liberty. I need you to help us fight back.

Please also consider becoming a Sponsoring Member of FreedomWorks August Action and receive your "Community Organizer for the Constitution" t-shirt by making a $25 donation now. These shirts are a great way to show you stand for constitutionally-limited government when you show up this August at your Representative's town hall meeting.

Like in the debt ceiling debate, when we speak up at these town hall meetings, politicians can no longer ignore us. Make your voice heard today at August Action.

Thank you.

In Liberty,

Matt Kibbe
President and CEO, FreedomWorks

P.S. - August Action is a critical project that will help us grow and strengthen the Tea Party movement. When you make a $25 donation or more to August Action right now you not only receive your FREE "Community Organizer for the Constitution" t-shirt, but help FreedomWorks continue to help grassroots activists fight for lower taxes, less government and more freedom.

Obama Celebrates, America Mourns

Thousands gathered in Chicago Wednesday night to wish Barack Obama a happy 50th birthday a day early. Many of the attendees paid $30,000 a plate for the honor. For that, they were able to rub elbows with Hollywood headliners and popular music stars. The president held a second birthday bash at the White House yesterday. Everyone at the party seemed quite happy.

While the president was opening presents from his elite admirers, America was opening our "gift" from him. The stock market plunged more than 500 points as fear spread that the U.S. economy might be slipping back into a recession. Many Americans feel we never really got out of the last one!

Traders held their breath this morning waiting for the 8:30 AM jobs report, worried it could be another "unexpectedly" weak figure. You could almost hear the sigh of relief when the jobs figure came in slightly above the consensus and the official unemployment rate dropped one tenth of a percent to 9.1%. Whoopee!!!

Feel better? Of course you don't. The dirty little secret is the number fell a pitiful 1/10th of a percent because tens of thousands of Americans got so discouraged by the state of Obama's economy that they quit looking for work and dropped out of the jobs market entirely. Since they are no longer looking for work, they no longer count. Day by day, millions of other fed up Americans believe they don't count either.

Obama now says he will focus on jobs, but he has no ideas that he hasn't already tried. His mantra remains the same - more regulations on business, higher taxes on entrepreneurs and small business owners whom he derisively refers to as "millionaires and billionaires" or "fat cats."

He continues to send hundreds of thousands of bureaucrats and regulators to attack and undermine our most successful industries - energy, healthcare, finance, insurance and others. While we wait for his socialist ideas to work, he continues to wage class warfare and promises the American people not real jobs, but more food stamps, welfare and income redistribution.

Republicans, to their credit, have blocked efforts by Obama, Reid and Pelosi to raise taxes in the middle of an economic decline. But that isn't enough. What we need are TAX CUTS now! Lower tax rates on businesses, entrepreneurs and everyone else. Letting people keep more of their hard-earned money is the only stimulus that works.

We should be the party of lower taxes, smaller government and less bureaucracy. Let Obama run on being the president of more welfare, more food stamps and more government.

Tea Party Changed The Debate

The Tea Party movement has taken it on the chin this week. From splits in the GOP over strategy to accusations on the left of "terrorism," "hijackings," "muggings" and "jihad." I know many conservatives don't like the debt limit deal; I'm not happy with it either. But the Tea Party scored a big victory in the debt limit debate: The conversation in Washington has changed from how much Congress can spend to how much it should cut.

The momentum is on our side now. The so-called "super committee" of 12 must present a plan to Congress by Thanksgiving for another $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction measures. As Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) argued this week, this debate will continue into 2012, and will likely dominate the presidential campaign. And fiscal conservatives are taking the initiative.

Hats off to Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) for introducing legislation this week to save the taxpayers $600 billion. That's half of the $1.2 trillion the "super committee" needs. Where did Hatch and Coburn find those savings? By gutting Medicare? No. By slashing Social Security? No. By decimating the Defense budget? Nope.

They found those huge savings by cutting the federal bureaucracy. The Hatch/Coburn bill would impose a three-year freeze on salaries for government workers ($140 billion over 10 years), cut federal travel budgets by 75% ($15 billion), reduce the federal workforce by 15% over the next ten years through attrition ($225 billion) and cut 15% of contract workers over ten years, saving an additional $230 billion.

The recession has forced companies to downsize and families to cut their budgets. But no matter how bad things get on Main Street, there never seems to be a recession in Washington. For all of Obama's talk about "shared sacrifice," it is long past time for Big Government to start sharing in the sacrifice!

Conservatives Target ObamaCare

If the "super committee" fails to come up with a plan that is approved by Congress, a trigger mechanism kicks in with automatic cuts to a variety of programs. Politico reports that congressional conservatives already have identified 15 provisions in ObamaCare that could be subject to these triggered cuts, and they are asking the Congressional Budget Office to look for more.

Liberals are furious. "The fact that the programs are vulnerable at all means Obama and congressional Democrats did not succeed in their attempts to shield the health reform law from the debt-deal trigger," Politico notes.

While conservatives may use the threat of triggered cuts as a bargaining chip, the super committee could look to ObamaCare for additional savings. Politico adds, "But the health law's funding could be slashed even if the committee is able to avoid the triggered cuts. The committee can pull funding from almost any piece of the law."

The Debt Deal Doesn't Even Glitter

When Bernanke said a few weeks ago that "Gold is not money," the only useful information he conveyed with this statement wasn't anything about the nature of gold, but only about his own mental state. For a banker to say "Gold is not money" when banks all over the world -- and even in the US -- hold gold as money reserves only reveals that either that banker never really knew what banking and money is all about, or that he is oppressed by a heavy form of schizophrenia.

Anyway, enough with Bernanke; no need to beat a dead horse. Hardly anyone anymore has any high expectations of him.

The problem is, gold is money. And it is real money, money that never lies. It tells us the real value of things. It even tells us the real value of that counterfeit money, the U.S. Dollar, that Bernanke keeps..."

Government & Politics

The Unsinkable U.S.?

Congress passed and the president signed the increase in the debt ceiling Tuesday, and that, as Leftmedia outlets rejoiced, ended the "crisis" just hours before the default deadline. On the other hand, the Left is grousing that the Tea Party got everything it wanted. But did the deal really end the crisis? Hardly. World markets plummeted in its wake -- the Dow fell 512 points Thursday, erasing all gains from 2011, evoking this response from the White House: "Markets go up and down." Furthermore, credit rating agencies continued to warn of a looming downgrade of the nation's AAA rating. And did the Tea Party come out with everything it wanted? Not a chance. On the contrary, the ship is still sinking. The Tea Party and the markets know that, despite all the back-patting in Washington.

The $2.4 trillion debt ceiling increase is the biggest ever. In fact, total U.S. debt didn't reach $2.4 trillion until 1987. Immediately on Tuesday, the Treasury borrowed another $239 billion -- the largest one-day debt binge in history -- bringing total federal debt to $14.532 trillion, or just over 100 percent of our gross domestic product. Debt has not exceeded GDP since 1947 -- immediately after World War II -- and 30 years ago it was just 32.5 percent of GDP. Could there be a connection between the market collapse and this debt "milestone"?

Democrats foisted upon the nation the biggest Keynesian spending bonanza in history, and the result has been almost no GDP growth, headline unemployment exceeding 9 percent (despite 117,000 new jobs in July), decreased consumer spending, inflation, debt as far as our great-grandchildren can see and a possible national credit rating downgrade.

On Aug. 3, 2010, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner penned an op-ed for The New York Times titled "Welcome to the Recovery." That rings awfully hollow now. In fact, many think that we're headed for a double-dip recession.

As for Barack Obama, later this month, he will embark on a three-day bus tour of the Midwest that he's styling as a "listening tour" focused on jobs. That's after his 50th birthday bash this week, which featured dinner at $35,800 a plate. In any case, it's become clear in recent weeks that the American people have lost confidence in Obama's policies and are tuning him out.

Not to worry, though. Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) says, "[W]e're going to focus on what we know is the number one priority on Americans' minds right now -- that is creating jobs and continuing to get this economy turned around." Um, "continuing"?

As for debt "deal" specifics, the House passed the increase 269-161, despite opposition from many Democrats and Tea Party Republicans. The Senate followed suit 74-26. Congress then quickly left for August recess. Barack Obama also signed the increase Tuesday saying the deal was "an important first step for ensuring that, as a nation, we live within our means." He even said it with a straight face.

On the contrary, "living within our means" doesn't actually seem to be part of the plan. The debt ceiling was immediately increased by $400 billion. By the end of September, another $500 billion increase is subject to a congressional vote of "disapproval," and Obama can veto that measure. After that, a "blue ribbon" joint committee of Congress (six members from each chamber, divided equally between Democrats and Republicans) will meet to recommend another $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction by Nov. 23, which Congress must take up by Dec. 23, in exchange for that much more in debt. If the committee or Congress fails, which is possible, if not probable, the debt ceiling will increase by $1.2 trillion anyway, with across-the-board cuts -- including to ObamaCare -- equal to that amount kicking in automatically.

Adding insult to injury, every spending cut is over 10 years, while every debt increase is immediate. So even with the deal, the forecast for the next decade is still trillions more in debt. As Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), who voted against the bill, put it, "It eliminates no program, consolidates no duplicative programs, cuts no tax earmarks and reforms no entitlement program. The specter of default or a credit downgrade will still hang over our economy after this deal becomes law." Is that what the Tea Party wanted?

None of that is to say the deal is the worst possible outcome. In fact, with no tax-rate increases and some spending cuts, despite Democratic control of the White House and Senate, it's quite the opposite. Retaking those two should be paramount in 2012 to work peacefully toward restoration of constitutional Rule of Law. In the meantime, the Tea Party should continue fighting for everything it can win.

Did the Tea Party win?

Essential Liberty

"[T]he projections for this and that for 2030, 2050, 2080 are all irrelevant. We have half-a-decade to turn this around. If we really intend (as is apparently foreseen by our bipartisan saviors) to add $7-10 trillion to the debt by 2020, then America is over -- because clearly there is no intention ever to repay that money, and the world will make its dispositions accordingly. ... The Democrats want to plunge over the cliff at full throttle. Too many Republicans think it will be fine as long as we go over the edge in third gear." --columnist Mark Steyn

Quote of the Week

"The White House doesn't create jobs." --White House Press Secretary Jay Carney

This Keen-Sense-of-the-Obvious moment is quite a change from all the administration's claims of millions of jobs "saved or created" via the "stimulus."

This Week's 'Alpha Jackass' Files

In perhaps the only heart-warming aspect of the debt-ceiling debacle, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) returned to Congress to cast her vote for the first time since being shot in the head in Tucson in January. Her recovery has been incredible, and we wish her well.

Her return, however, provided a striking picture of the hypocrisy of the Left. When she was shot, leftists couldn't say enough to blame so called "right-wing hate speech" for the shooting. Now, it's leftists who are employing "destroy," "hostage," "terrorist" and even "gun-to-the-head" metaphors to describe the Republican approach to the debt ceiling.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said that, for Republicans, "It isn't about reducing the deficit, it is about destroying the public space. It is about destroying ... federal involvement in education. It's about clean air, clean water, food safety, public safety. You name it, they're there to diminish it. Destroy it." (New Democrat bumper sticker: "Republicans Hate Clean Water -- Vote Democrat".)

According to Rep. Mike Doyle (D-PA), "The Tea Party acted like terrorists in threatening to blow up the economy." Vice President Joe Biden reportedly agreed, "They have acted like terrorists," though he denies saying it. "What happened was there were some people who said they felt like they were being held hostage by terrorists," Biden said. "I never said that they were terrorists or weren't terrorists, I just let them vent." By his own admission, then, the vice president allowed "left-wing hate speech" to infect his ranks. So much for the administration's calls for "civility."

Former Democrat congressman Martin Frost added his two cents with a Politico op-ed titled "The Tea Party Taliban." New York Times columnist Tom Friedman called the Tea Party the "Hezbollah faction" of the GOP, saying they're bent on forcing the nation on a "suicide mission." Fellow Times scribbler Maureen Dowd described conservatives as "cannibals," "zombies" and "vampires." Other Times writers as well as the editorial board engaged in similar rhetoric, despite their sanctimonious smears of conservatives in the wake of the Tucson shooting. Did we mention they totally ignored Biden's comments?

Especially in light of Giffords' return to Congress, it was galling to hear MSNBC analyst and Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson accuse the Tea Party of "putting a gun to the president's head" on the debt ceiling. Former White House "green czar" Van Jones likewise said, "When any faction in America that would put a gun to the head of 310 million people and say 'if you don't do it our way we will blow your dreams away, we will blow a hole in the American economy,' that is un-American and that is not how we do business and we refuse to bow down to those kind of bully tactics." On the related issue of delayed Federal Aviation Administration funding, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) accused Republicans of "hostage taking" and said Democrats felt they had a "gun held to [our] head."

Giffords, we should mention, voted "yes" on the debt increase.

We would normally classify this last remark as "Non Compos Mentis" instead of "Alpha Jackass," but while we're on the subject: Joe Biden reportedly welcomed Gabby Giffords to "the cracked head club." Smooth move, Joe.

On Cross-Examination

"It is not tea party people who are the 'terrorists.' A terrorist seeks to destroy. Who is the real destroyer in the debt-ceiling debate? Who wants to continue spending money we don't have, borrowing it from nations like China that would be happy to destroy us if our politicians don't do it first? Tea party people simply want to make their government accountable again and for this they are called 'terrorists'?" --columnist Cal Thomas

On the Campaign Trail

The first GOP presidential caucuses and primaries are still months away, but recent polling by Rasmussen indicates that the contest for the Republican nomination is shaping into a three-way race among Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann and the yet-to-declare Rick Perry. We're skeptical of polls for many reasons, but this one bears a closer look. In Rasmussen's most recent survey of 1,000 likely Republican voters, Romney drew 34 percent, Bachmann 27 percent, and Perry 26 percent in a three-way matchup. The balance of respondents liked another candidate or were undecided. In two-way match-ups, Romney edged out Bachmann 44-42 and he beat Perry 43-39. In other words, each combination is a statistical dead heat.

Tea Party supporters trended toward Bachmann and Perry, who split at 39-39 in a head-to-head match-up. Romney has positioned himself as the establishment candidate, and the Rasmussen poll indicates that is where his support is strongest. Still, the news from this poll should be unsettling to the Romney camp, which has been far and away the largest fundraiser in the GOP race to date and has prided itself as running a top-notch campaign operation. Romney, who ran a strong campaign in 2008, has been laying the groundwork for this run ever since. Yet after all that hard work, all those photo ops, and all that money spent, he still remains neck and neck with a congressional representative who was virtually unknown eight months ago and a Texas governor who hasn't even declared his candidacy.

Who's your candidate?

Warfront With Jihadistan: About That 'Arab Spring'

As we enter August, the Egyptian "Arab Spring" uprising of early 2011 appears to be wilting in the summer heat, just as expected by those who understand Arab culture and the influence of the Arab world's Islamists. Six months after throngs of these allegedly "liberal" pro-democracy protesters led a popular uprising that helped oust President Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian troops on Monday forcibly removed the remaining protesters from Cairo's Tahrir Square. Many Egyptians stood by and applauded the army, while others harassed the protesters as they ran from the site that symbolized the Arab Spring, demonstrating just how far the uprising's leaders have fallen in the eyes of ordinary Egyptians. The protesters' criticism of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces has failed to move the larger citizenry, and their continuing demonstrations have also angered many Egyptians who say the tumult has frightened away tourists and otherwise damaged the country's economy.

Monday's rout of the protesters followed a massive rally in Tahrir Square last Friday by Islamists who called for Egypt to become an Islamic state and railed against the secular protesters who led the uprising last spring. Tellingly, the Islamists' numbers dwarfed those of the protesters. It now appears that the military has formed an informal alliance with the Islamists as a defense against the protesters' attempts to strip the military of its power. The dream of secular "democracy" in Egypt, if it ever was real, appears to be dead.

As for Mubarak, on Wednesday the cancer-stricken 83-year-old former dictator appeared in an Egyptian court, lying on a hospital bed inside a metal defendant's cage. His two sons, in white prison uniforms, stood beside him as he denied charges of corruption and complicity in the killing of protesters last spring. Many Egyptians, watching the proceedings on state television, savored the humiliation of the man who ruled for 29 years, a time when opponents were tortured or killed, corruption was rampant, poverty spread and civic life was non-existent. Sadly, Egypt's military is staging this trial as a sop to the Muslim Brotherhood, under whose Islamic rule life may remain all too similar to that under Mubarak.

In related news, Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's forces continue to kill and generally terrorize protesters in his country. Given NATO's pitiful efforts in Libya, it's unlikely that the West will intervene in Syria, nor should it do so. The UN did, however, issue a somewhat-strongly worded statement condemning Assad's actions. "Those responsible for the violence should be held accountable," the Security Council said. Well then. That should do the trick.

Speaking of Libya, Moammar Gadhafi's son Khamis was killed by a NATO air strike. To get a picture of the strange story of the military action in that country, just eight days before strikes began, Khamis was given a VIP tour of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Immigration Front: Another Border Scandal

The El Paso Times reports, "U.S. federal agents allegedly allowed the [Mexican] Sinaloa drug cartel to traffic several tons of cocaine into the United States in exchange for information about rival cartels, according to court documents filed in a U.S. federal court. The allegations are part of the defense of Vicente Zambada-Niebla, who was extradited to the United States to face drug-trafficking charges in Chicago. He is also a top lieutenant of drug kingpin Joaquin 'Chapo' Guzman and the son of Ismael 'Mayo' Zambada-Garcia, believed to be the brains behind the Sinaloa cartel."

The case certainly reminds us of "Operation Fast and Furious," run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, in which illegally obtained guns were allowed to be taken into Mexico in return for information on drug cartels and other smuggling operations. We have recounted that scandal on numerous occasions. This time, it's drugs crossing into the U.S., and though not as dangerous, it's an outrage nonetheless. Estimates are that some 3,000 people lost their lives due to Fast and Furious, including some at the hands of the Sinaloa cartel. Information about the cartel is apparently worth a lot of cocaine.

Can Israeli Techniques Work With U.S. Travelers?

At an implementation cost of $1 billion, the TSA is laying down a huge bet that Israeli-style security protocols can be transplanted to American shores. As the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks approaches, specially selected TSA agents, most with college degrees, are undergoing a four-day classroom course followed by 24 hours of on-the-job training in how to use visual cues and other methods to deduce which travelers may be threats. Known as the Screening Passengers by Observation Techniques program (SPOT), the Israeli technique is to ask a traveler four simple questions, with the TSA agent trained to spot "micro expressions" that could lead to further questioning or eventually the dreaded pat-down.

Of course, this new security method has civil libertarians up in arms and charging that the technique amounts to "profiling" and "security theater." However, if the Israeli approach works, it could mean fewer embarrassing incidents like the many well-documented instances of traveler harassment for which the TSA has become infamous. The question is whether we can trust the TSA to come up with competent screeners for the job.

Regulatory Commissars: The EPA Costs Jobs

As the unemployment rate hovers above 9 percent and job creation remains abysmal thanks to this administration's policies, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced a proposal that will destroy millions more jobs by 2030. Of course, the EPA isn't admitting this consequence, but such would be the impact of the agency's plan to constrict ozone standards from the 75 ppb (parts per billion) set in 2008 to 60 ppb. According to a study by the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI, the proposed new standard would not only kill 7.3 million jobs but also carry a price tag of more than $1 trillion per year between 2020 and 2030, not to mention that the idea is downright ridiculous. For perspective of just how much so, consider that not even Yellowstone National Park consistently meets a 60 ppb standard.

Icing the cake of idiocy, the anticipated health benefits of the proposed standard aren't at all significant. As HotAir.com reports, "EPA's assumed causal relationship between ozone and mortality has not been supported by EPA's science advisors, [and] the EPA's own data show that the benefits of the proposed ozone standard will not outweigh the costs." So in short, a negative cost-benefit ratio, seven million-plus jobs gone, and an annual cost of $1 trillion. Sounds like a typical Leftist-inspired EPA program.

To be fair, it's not just the EPA wreaking havoc on the economy. According to a memo distributed by Sen. John Barasso (R-WY), the administration added or finalized 608 regulatory rules in July alone at a total cost of $9.5 billion. That's what Obama has previously called a "massive, job-killing tax increase."

Sound off on regulation

The Union Label

Workers of the World unite ... or else. That's the latest message sent to American workers by the International Association of Machinists (IAM) and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The union has now resorted to outright blackmail to keep its stranglehold on American industry.

The story in a nutshell is "The Godfather" meets "Reds." A few months ago, IAM filed an action with the NLRB to stop Boeing from opening a new plant in South Carolina, a right-to-work state. Boeing had decided it made more sense to build its new 787 Dreamliner in a business-friendly state, rather than Washington state, where the union is firmly entrenched. The company has already hired 1,000 workers, whom the IAM had no problem putting out of work. Now, however, it has magnanimously offered to withdraw, if Boeing's workers allow the union to "organize" at the new plant.

Unions have long been known for their underhanded dealings, but few so blatant as this. Perhaps it's the backing of the White House that has emboldened them to -- as Americans for Tax Reform claims -- violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), the extortion law under which several mafia dons have been incarcerated.

Neither the IAM nor the NLRB seems to care that American workers already have enough problems. According to the Institute for Supply Management, U.S. manufacturing activity fell to 50.9 percent in July from 55.3 percent in June. This is a new low since July 2009 -- the "official" end of the recession. So much for "Hope and Change."

HHS Birth Control

The Department of Health and Human Services issued new guidelines this week ordering health insurance plans to cover women's preventive health services without co-pays starting Aug. 1, 2012. This mandate covers not only Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and diabetes screening, but also birth control and voluntary sterilization. Apparently, the Obama administration and its supporters view pregnancy as a preventable disease like HPV. That should come as no surprise considering their track record of support for abortion on demand in any and all circumstances.

This latest element of the travesty we have come to know as ObamaCare assumes that widespread government-supported access to birth control will cut down on the number of unwanted pregnancies that the government funds, thereby saving taxpayer money. There is a fatal flaw, however, in that logic. Federal, state and local governments have been providing free or heavily subsidized birth control programs for the poor for several years now with insignificant success in actively reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies among the social service-dependent population. Virtually any woman in this country who wants free birth control already has access to it even without the new HHS mandate. The only outcomes that this new rule is likely to achieve are a further burden on already stressed Medicaid resources and a further erosion of the concept of personal responsibility in our society.

Public Health Insurance Costs

A recent study by Josh Barro of the Manhattan Institute indicates that many state governments are reaching the fiscal breaking point thanks to their inability to reform their public employee health insurance plans. Public employees enjoy a number of advantages over their private sector counterparts when it comes to benefits. They contribute, on average, only 15 percent of their own income to premiums, compared to 25 percent that private employees generally pay. Public employees also receive a wider array of services with lower co-pays and deductibles.

The cost for this government generosity has tripled over the past 15 years, but it can be slowed by switching to consumer-driven benefits options with a greater employee buy-in for premiums and managed-care coverage. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels did just that in his state in 2006, and taxpayers and public employees saved a combined $31 million last year. Barro's study notes that a similar strategy employed nationwide could save $30 billion.

Culture & Policy

Second Amendment: Gun-Grabbers International

The United States is almost unique among nations in that its citizenry generally enjoys the right to keep and bear arms -- the palladium of all liberties. That's a sore subject among international statists, and the United Nations has been working on a treaty designed to limit armaments of all sorts in order to assume greater control of otherwise sovereign nations.

If you look at the document through the prism of American sovereignty, it's clear the UN's Arms Trade Treaty, which has the support of Barack Obama, has a number of drawbacks (The Heritage Foundation has them outlined. Because of that, it also now has a bipartisan group of 57 senators (45 Republicans along with a dozen Democrats) opposed to it in its present form -- in particular, its "wide-ranging and unrealistic scope." It also violates the Second Amendment. But since when has the UN cared about our Constitution? For that matter, when was the last time Democrats cared about our Constitution?

More important, that group of 57 senators -- one for each state, if you count like Barack Obama -- is more than enough to deny adoption of the Arms Trade Treaty unless significant changes are made in the final product, which is due in 2012. With that sort of political timing, the chances of the Arms Trade Treaty being enacted are between slim and none. Just keep a wary eye on the executive branch, because with Obama as a proponent, other avenues are possible.

Around the Nation: Kansas Pleads the 10th

Planned Parenthood took Kansas to court over its new law that halts the flow of state taxpayer dollars to the abortion provider and ends abortion funding in health insurance programs. Claiming the law infringes upon their rights to free speech and due process, Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri filed suit in U.S. district court. It seems the abortion mill believes it's entitled to taxpayer dollars. Kansas disagreed. Responding to the lawsuit, the state invoked the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, arguing, "The proposed injunction would commandeer one of the State's agencies, forcing the State to cancel past contracts and enter into new ones selected by the Court," and, "The proposed injunction would violate the State's sovereignty and unconstitutionally replace the State's discretion with the Court's judgment."

Indeed, the 10th Amendment clearly says, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people." Kansas believes that it has the authority to determine state tax funding.

Yet on Monday, Clinton-appointed U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten agreed with Planned Parenthood and granted a temporary injunction against the law. He didn't ignore the Constitution but instead perverted it for his own ends, saying that the state's law is an unconstitutional restriction on a federally funded program. Marten said it therefore violates the Supremacy Clause, as well as Planned Parenthood's First and Fourteenth Amendment rights. "The purpose of the statute was to single out, punish and exclude Planned Parenthood," Marten said. He did not, however, point to the constitutional clause authorizing federal funds being spent on an abortion provider. We suppose he couldn't find it.

And Last...

The University of Tennessee bookstore pulled from the shelves this week a satirical item mocking the president -- "This is Change? Disappoint-Mints." The complainant wasn't just any Young Democrat, either, but state representative Joe Armstrong. After some very sensitive students alerted him to the product, he went to the bookstore to personally investigate. He concluded that this manner of gaining fresh breath was "very specifically insulting to the president," and he added that the university should be careful of "politically specific products." Oddly enough, no one complained when the bookstore carried breath mints poking fun at George W. Bush. Maybe Democrats just don't like minty fresh breath.

HR 1505 bypasses "environmental" laws to give our Border Patrol the tools to control our borders

Aug 03, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

It's not likely you have heard of H.R. 1505,  The National Security and Federal Lands Protection Act (NSFLPA) This outline of what's in HR 1505 will tell you why the media is keeping a lid on this bill.

NSFLPA will free our Homeland Security Department Border Patrol agents from short sighted and phony environmental laws that keep our borders porous and uncontrollable.

This "one eighty" in America's approach to stemming the tide of illegal aliens sneaking into our country was introduced by Republican Congressman Rob Bishop of Utah. To get the job done NSFLPA will wave enforcement of a litany of unnecessary and counterproductive liberal laws that have been destroying true conservation efforts for decades.

Under Bishop's "get tough" bill the Department of Homeland Security's work to protect our borders and coastlines within 100 miles of our borders would no longer be impeded by extraneous laws. In many states Border Patrols ... Continue Reading:HR 1505 bypasses "environmental" laws to give our Border Patrol the tools to control our borders

Apparently Only Islamic Terrorists Have a Just Cause!

Aug 07, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Doug Book,  staff writer

Since Nidal Malik Hasan murdered 14 people at Ft. Hood in 2009,  the Washington Post has published fewer than 40 articles which have mentioned the  "allahu akbar"  shouting,  terrorist killer. And most of these have expressed sympathy for the poor Major's pressure filled existence while exhibiting a profound reluctance to attribute blame for the massacre.

Just two of those articles offered anything resembling a direct reference to Hassan's Muslim faith,  both written nearly a year after the crime.

In the fortnight since 77 people were murdered in Norway,  the Post has carried 104 articles condemning Anders Breivik. And in 44 of those publications,  Breivik is variously described as a Christian fundamentalist,  Christian terrorist or Christian political extremist.

It is not unusual that a far left newspaper like the Washington Post would exhibit this level of bias in its reporting.

Nor should readers be surprised with details the Post and virtually every other ... Continue Reading:Apparently Only Islamic Terrorists Have a Just Cause!

Operation Shady RAT: China again

Aug 06, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

A shocking report titled Operation Shady RAT released by Dmitri Alperovitch, Vice President of Threat Research at McAfee  revealed the existence of long standing cyber spying aimed at stealing intellectual property and trade secrets from western based firms.

The folks a McAfee gained access to a server that was used by the hackers and downloaded logs "that reveal the full extent of the victim population since mid-2006 when the log collection began."  They noted this is when the event logs began but agreed the cyber-espionage program may have been in operation before 2006. "So far, it is unknown what information was downloaded and how much.

China, the usual suspect

The leading suspect in this operation is China. The Chinese regularly use cyber-espionage to gain advantages over adversaries in manufacturing and military arenas. 'Captain America: The First Avenger' Review - Movieology

'Captain America: The First Avenger' Review - Movieology

Hollywood gets one "right": Captain America
Written on August 2, 2011 by Stewart Adams

Let's begin with a little history lesson. Captain America Comics #1, cover-dated March 1941 actually went on sale in December 1940, a year before the attack on Pearl Harbor, but a full year into World War II. Its cover showed the protagonist punching Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in the jaw and sold nearly one million copies. The intentionally political character quickly became a symbol of American patriotism an grew to immense popularity throughout the wartime period.

Now it is 2011 and Marvel studios has brought Cap to the silver screen with a superhero origin story film that is also a period piece. For the most part, the production values are very high for this movie and the visual and audio design is unique and creative. The acting is exceptional, especially the performances of Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci. Many scenes reminded me of director Joe Johnston's 1991 feature film The Rocketeer, and yes, that's a good thing.

Congress Heads Home; Tell Them How Lower Immigration Can Create Jobs

The jobs market received a small boost this morning with news that the economy added 117,000 jobs in the month of July. But, as I noted in my blog on Wednesday, the job creation falls short of the 125,000 foreign workers that received new work permits last month.

Congress heads home this weekend for a month-long recess that runs through Labor Day, and your Members of Congress will likely use the time to meet with their constituents. As we've said in the past, there is no action you can take that's more important than meeting with your Reps in person.

Throughout August, our LEAP (Local Education and Appearing Personally) Team will be sending out alerts when we hear of Town Hall meetings or other opportunities to meet with your Reps in your area.

Congress has already stated that its primary focus when it returns in the fall will be jobs creation. The best way Congress can free up jobs for 22 million Americans who can't find a full-time job would be to reduce overall immigration levels and pass Rep. Lamar Smith's national E-Verify bill (H.R. 2164) that would ensure that future jobs go to legal workers.

If you hear about a Town Hall meeting in your area, please contact our LEAP coordinator Andrew Good at stateaction2011@numbersusa.com. Andrew will make sure he gets an alert out to other NumbersUSA activists in your area while also preparing handouts and talking points.

Don't want to wait for a Town Hall meeting to meet with your Rep? Many Reps will set up face-to-face meetings with groups of constituents. If you're interested in joining a group of other activists to meet with your Rep, contact Andrew and he'll help coordinate the meeting.

Thanks,

'Labor Shortage' Stories

By Jeremy Beck, Friday, August 5, 2011

The "labor shortage" claim is an old lobbying gambit that reporters still haven't caught onto. Mass-immigration activists learned decades ago that the press loves a scary story about shortages, whether it is true or not. In 2007, just before the recession Michael S. Teitelbaum, Vice President of the Sloan Foundation testified before Congress and noted that interest groups have a right to promote their own interests. His testimony rings as true in this jobless recovery as it did four years ago before the recession.

Debt Debate Over; Time for Congress to Lower Immigration and Create Jobs for Unemployed Americans

By Chris Chmielenski, Wednesday, August 3, 2011

While the nation has been transfixed by the recent debt ceiling debate, 22 million Americans have continued their search for a full-time job. Now that a compromise on the debt ceiling has been reached, Members of both parties are promising to get back to work creating jobs. Yet their promises are hard to believe considering both parties have refused to act on one of the most pressing job-related issues -- lowering annual immigration levels.

SPECIAL REPORT-Our Members' Stories on Losing Jobs to Illegal Aliens

By Jim Robb, Friday, August 5, 2011

We have fresh and heart-rending evidence that 50-state mandatory E-Verify must be passed. For years, we have been fighting the insulting notion that illegal aliens will do jobs, such as manual labor, that Americans will not do. With 22 million Americans unable to find full-time work, fewer are making that claim, but we still hear it. This past spring, I asked, "Are there really jobs Americans won't do? If you've seen evidence with your own eyes that Americans WILL DO these kind of jobs, write me." We received hundreds of responses!

National Right To Work Legal Defense

First Wisconsin, then Ohio.

Both states struck a crucial blow to Big Labor's power over taxpayers and government employees, but you and I know the union bosses won't relinquish their special legal privileges without a fight.

While union lawyers are scheming to overturn Wisconsin's monopoly bargaining reforms in the courts, union bosses and their allies in Ohio have launched a massive campaign in support of a ballot measure that would repeal Ohio's new government-sector Right to Work law.

On Thursday, with free legal aid from the National Right to Work Foundation, 15 Ohio school teachers filed a class-action suit demonstrating once again why the new Right to Work protections are so clearly needed.

All 15 teachers who launched the lawsuit have exercised their right to refrain from membership in the Ohio Education Association (OAE) union and its affiliates, but nonetheless are forced to accept the "representation" of and pay tribute to union bosses as a condition of employment.

In the Foundation-won precedent Abood v. Detroit Board of Education, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the First Amendment guarantees that nonmember teachers cannot be forced to pay dues or fees for union-boss politics and other non-bargaining activities.

OEA union officials have unlawfully overcharged the teachers for costs supporting the union's political activism and electioneering.

Additionally, OEA regional affiliate union bosses have collected forced fees from nonmember teachers without providing the kind of independently-audited financial statements required by another Foundation-won Supreme Court precedent, Chicago Teachers Union v. Hudson.

Abood and Hudson provide critical protections for teachers and other government workers who are forced to pay for unwanted union-boss "representation," but Right to Work laws eliminate union bosses' forced-dues powers entirely.

That's why the OEA union hierarchy so desperately wants to overturn Ohio's reform bill.

Disturbingly, after overcharging nonmembers without adequate disclosure, OEA union bosses could now be funding their campaign to repeal Ohio's government-sector Right to Work law with forced-dues dollars seized from the independent-minded teachers' paychecks.

The class-action lawsuit seeks to reclaim for nonmember teachers any forced fees that OEA union brass illegally collected and spent on politicking and other nonchargeable activities.

But the real victory will come when no worker can be compelled to support an unwanted union.

Sincerely,

Mark Mix

P.S. The Foundation relies completely on voluntary contributions from its supporters to provide free legal aid.

Please chip in with a tax-deductible contribution of $10 or more today to support the Foundation's programs.

Get Government Out of Our House
by Phyllis SchlaflyAugust 5, 2011
Phyllis Schlafly
hyllis Schlafly
If Congress can't repeal the law that banishes the Edison light bulb and forces us to buy Chinese-made bulbs we don't like, voters will ask, what was the use in electing a Republican House? Not only are the majority of Americans in favor of abolishing that obnoxious law, but even a majority of House members voted to repeal the current law, yet that didn't eliminate the ban.

That's because Speaker John Boehner unexpectedly brought up the repeal on July 12 under a rule that required a two-thirds majority, and the vote tally of 233 for repeal to 193 against didn't meet that requirement. While the ban on Edison light bulbs was passed before Obama became President, we can blame him and his Energy Secretary Steven Chu for lobbying strongly against its repeal, and blame Nancy Pelosi for getting all but five Democrats to vote No.

Thanks to Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX), the House subsequently passed an amendment to the 2012 Energy and Water Appropriations Act to deny funding to the Department of Energy to implement the ban. However, that's only effective for one year, so we still need to repeal the ban.

This issue not only involves Americans' freedom of choice to use the most popular and important of all American inventions, but it's also a matter of jobs. The ban gave General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt the excuse to close G.E.'s U.S. light-bulb manufacturing plants, lay off hundreds of well-paid U.S. employees, and open his plants in Communist China where wages are low and the new bulbs can be imported to sell in the U.S. for higher prices.

VOL. 44, NO. 12P.O. BOX 618, ALTON, ILLINOIS 62002JULY 2011

States Confront Illegal Alien Problems

E-Verify, a computer process that makes it fast and easy for employers to check the validity of employees' Social Security numbers to ascertain if they are legal, was created by Congress as a voluntary system. It demonstrates its utility by verifying individuals within a few seconds with 99.5% accuracy, but only about 2% of businesses actually use it.

Arizona passed the Legal Arizona Workers Act in 2007 to require the use of E-Verify for new hires by businesses in that state and to allow the state to revoke the business license of any company that knowingly employed illegal aliens. That law was signed by then-Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, a Democrat, who is now director of the Department of Homeland Security.

On May 26, 2011, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 5-to-3 decision (Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting) upheld the Arizona law. The Court rejected the pro-amnesty claque's argument that immigration enforcement is exclusively the federal government's responsibility. A similar case from Hazleton, Pennsylvania was remanded by the High Court to the Third Circuit to be reconsidered in light of the Arizona decision. Hazleton's ordinance to protect itself against employers hiring illegal aliens was so popular with voters that they reelected its sponsor, Mayor Lou Barletta, and then elected him to Congress in 2010.

The Alabama State Legislature, by large margins, passed a bill, HB56, which covers most areas of abuses by illegal aliens. Like the Arizona law upheld by the Supreme Court, Alabama's HB56 requires employers to verify the legal status of their employees by using the federal government's E-Verify program. The employer doesn't commit a crime if he fails to use E-Verify, but he could lose his business license, which the state government has the authority to revoke.

Hollywood Left Says It Loves Taxes, Yet Won't Pay More

Amid all of the spurious talk about "tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires" (defined incongruously by the left as anyone with income of over $200,000), the Obama administration and its media lackeys are trying to raise support for an increase in taxes on corporate jets.

It's well-known that the amount of money that potentially would be raised by closing this loophole is miniscule, it'd take 5,000 years for it to equal the new debt added just last year, but since we're talking about tax cuts for the wealthy, it's worth noting that the Hollywood Left actually has managed to get a significant number of tax deductions to promote television and movie production. Magically, however, we aren't seeing much discussion about closing these tax loopholes from the elite media.

The Washington Examiner

The poor are not poor because the rich are rich

A just-released study from the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press reporting a record high wealth gap between whites and blacks should have been labeled "handle with care."

Because care is needed to examine the complex reality behind the fact that "median wealth of white households is 20 times that of black households. ..."

And without care, this information will be abused and misused by those in the race business as another excuse to claim racism and demand exactly what blacks, or any of us, do not need -- more government.

And, indeed, the Rev. Al Sharpton has already announced plans for protest in Washington, along with the statement: "For those who think we live in some sort of post-racial society, I have news for you: we're anything but."
