U.S. Dept of Ed Pushes Man-Made Global Warming at Kids' Reading Event
The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on August 2, 2011 at 8:16am
Is the U.S. Department of Education indoctrinating children to accept man-made global warming as fact?
On July 20, 2011, kids in the Washington, D.C. area were treated to free books during a special U.S. Department of Education event. Two of the books that were offered featured popular Nickelodeon characters as part of the network's "Big Green Help Series," a campaign encouraging children to help protect the Earth. Revolution 2.0? Soldiers With 'Electrified Batons' Clear Protesters From Egypt's Tahrir Sq.
The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on August 1, 2011 at 11:11pm
CAIRO (AP) - Egyptian forces swinging electrified batons and shouting the battle cry "God is great" swiftly chased off dozens of activists Monday who had refused to end four weeks of renewed protests at Tahrir Square to pressure the country's transitional military rulers.
Hundreds of riot police backed by armored vehicles and soldiers moved in to tear down the camp of dozens of tents after a group of holdout activists - some of them relatives of people killed in the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak in February - refused pleas over loudspeakers to go home. Some in the crowd hurled stones at the police.
Firing shots in the air and using clubs, Egyptian forces cleared the square within minutes.

Sen. Toomey To Oppose Debt Deal
Monday, Aug 1
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) announced that he will be voting against the Budget Control Act and issued the following statement:
"Our government is heading for a fiscal crisis," Sen. Toomey said. "We have doubled spending since 2000. Our deficits are now more than $1.4 trillion per year, and our debt has reached a stunning $14.3 trillion.
"Unfortunately, the debt ceiling deal announced last night does nothing to deal with the path of our government's unsustainable deficit spending. For fiscal year 2012, this legislation will only cut two-tenths of 1 percent of total spending. Not only will our debt grow each year under this plan, it will continue to grow even as a percentage of our economy. Finally, I am concerned that the long-term cuts over the next decade will not materialize. All Congress has to do to override this bill's spending restraints in the future is pass another law that overrides them. If Congress is truly serious about cutting spending, it would mandate serious spending cuts in next year's budget - the only year in which cuts are actually guaranteed.
"While I appreciate the hard work and effort that has gone into this deal, it simply does not contain meaningful spending cuts, nor does it put us on a sustainable fiscal path. Therefore, I will be voting against the legislation tomorrow."

Press Release:
AFDI/SIOA 9/11 Freedom Rally:
Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America
NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.
Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."
AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.
The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.
Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. McCarthy; popular radio host Joyce Kaufman; Darla Dawald, National Director of the Patriot Action Network; James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST); Coptic Christian activist Joseph Nassralla; Iraqi ex-Muslim Paul Gaynos.
Hosting the rally are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.
Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York. Cordoba Initiative board member imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an open proponent of Sharia, Islamic law, a system that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. Given the thousands of triumphal mosques that have been built on the cherished sites of conquered peoples throughout Islamic history, the mosque leaders' claim that this mosque would be understood differently by Muslims worldwide lack foundation.
The Durban III conference follows upon two previous conferences that scapegoated and demonized the state of Israel in service of Islamic jihad and Islamic supremacist interests. The rally will defend Israel against the defamation to which it will be subjected at this conference. It will also call upon the city to remove roadblocks to the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed on 9/11 and since then mired in bureaucratic red tape that has prevented its rebuilding - in stark contrast to the help Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials have given to the Ground Zero Mosque project.
AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government. We have talked to all the power brokers. The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God. It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.
"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand. I ask you to join me. I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth. If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution. This is a people of faith solution. This is a people all over the world solution. I ask you to help get this word out."

Glenn Beck Restoring Courage Viewing Party : On Wednesday, August 24 we will be streaming the event at The Moose and we're inviting everyone to come down and share this together. Many of us went to the Restoring Honor event last year and we were deeply moved by the day's events. Being with others we know made this even more special. Although we are not going to travel to Israel, we are hoping that we can recreate that atmosphere here in Bucks County. We are still in the development stages of this event and would like to hear your suggestions on how to have it work out. And if you can help with the planning, set up and the break down, please let us know. These events are even more special when you are part of the effort to make it come off well for everyone who comes. Be sure to invite your friends and family to come as well. This would be a great opportunity to meet other patriots and meet some new ones. Let us know you are coming on our Facebook event post .

Patriots,
The Pa legislature is going to have its first hearing ever on a Right to Work package of legislation (House Bills 50-53). It will be held on Tuesday, August 16 from 1-4 p.m. in room 205 of the Ryan Office Building. There is no doubt that the unions will be out in force to try to intimidate members of the Labor committee. If you can get out to the hearing that would be great, please let as many people know about it as possible so members know that the grassroots support Right to Work.

Dear Patriot,
Our August meeting will be held in conjunction with the Kitchen Table Patriots to present a project to help ensure the integrity of our electoral process. This is a genuine non-partisan issue. Win or lose candidates for office should be able to rely on the officials who oversee the polls on Election Day so that every legitimate vote is counted.
"True the Vote" is an initiative developed by citizens for citizens, to inspire and equip volunteers for involvement at every stage of our electoral process and to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation. We are looking for people to learn about this effort and get involved today to ensure we have valid elections for all. Please join us August 8th.
True the Vote

CONSTITUTION GROUP BRINGING "LIBERTY BREAKFAST" TO CHESTER COUNTY
(Lebanon, PA) - The Constitutional Organization Of Liberty (COOL), a conservative, non-partisan educational organization, has announced it will be hosting a "Liberty Breakfast" in Downingtown on Saturday, August 6.
Mark Thomas of Cornwall, Chairman of COOL, said that the five-year old organization has arranged for the morning function at the Old Country Buffet, beginning at 8:30 AM.
"We're very excited about bringing our breakfast to Chester County," Thomas said. "We have hosted courses and functions throughout central Pennsylvania but this is the first one we have held in Chester County."
Thomas said that the Liberty Breakfasts are new for 2011 as they found a number of individuals were interested in gaining additional knowledge about the Constitution but were not able to commit to long term coursework.
"After the successful classes we had last year, COOL's Board went ahead and approved the use of the breakfast model in order to broaden our access and appeal to the different locations we think would be receptive to our courses and educational approach," he said.
Carris Kocher, of the Bill of Rights Bicentennial Committee, which, along with Chester County ACTION, is hosting the breakfast, said she personally made arrangements for the breakfast in Downingtown and is looking for a strong turnout.
"This area has a large number of deeply convicted individuals when it comes to the Constitution and how the law should be applied," Kocher said. "I really felt the time had come to start combining COOL's strong educational expertise with the conservative activists in the area."
Kocher also noted that since 2011 is the 275th anniversary of Patrick Henry's birth, the breakfast will include a musical tribute to Patrick Henry by Charlie Zahm of Philadelphia,
"Charlie is an outstanding musician with a wealth of musical talent and historical knowledge," Kocher said. "He is popular at Maritime, Early American and Celtic festivals, and his rich voice is matched only by his masterful guitar playing."
"Having this tribute to Patrick Henry at this event seemed fitting," Kocher said, "as, without Patrick Henry, there would be no Bill of Rights and no First Amendment."
State Senator Mike Folmer (R-48th), who serves as a Board member for COOL, attended the first Liberty Breakfast in Palmyra and said he was very pleased with the function.
"I enjoyed the fact that the breakfast allows participants to gain additional knowledge about the Constitution and our Founding documents without feeling pressured to stick to a long term schedule," Folmer said. "And for an elected official like myself it is a great time to just catch up with local constituents without having to worry about being the center of attention."
"Anyone who attends these breakfasts comes out learning something," he said.
The topic for the Liberty Breakfast scheduled for August 6 will be "The First Amendment" and will feature both a review of the Amendment as well as an open discussion of the critical aspects of it.
The meeting room at the Old Country Buffet has been reserved and breakfast will be served ala carte whereby participants will order and pay for their own meals. After the meal, the forum will begin, and there is no charge to participate, although donations will be solicited.
Attendance confirmation is requested to ensure sufficient seating in the meeting room, and may be made by contacting Kocher via e-mail at kochercj@verizon.net. Any other inquiries may be made directly to COOL at 717-228-7524, or by e-mail at reclaimliberty@verizon.net.

RedState Morning Briefing
For August 2, 2011
1. The Necessity of the Fight
Here's something no one wants to talk about, whether Republican or Democrat. Well, I should not say no one, but pretty much every Republican and Democrat who participated in the terms of the debate over the debt ceiling has ignored this.
Government spending is going above 25% of GDP.
Tax revenue, up until the last two years has averaged 18.5% GDP.
Let's give the Democrats, for the sake of argument, their Clinton tax increases back. The 1998 to 1999 years saw the highest amount of federal revenue come in. But it was only in the 21% of GDP range.
In fact, 1945 and 1999 are the only two years I can find where tax revenue into the federal government surpassed 20%.
In other words, with the economy firing on all cylinders, only twice has revenue into the federal treasury been over 20% of GDP and spending has now gone well above 20% of GDP.
Today the Senate will vote on the compromise debt ceiling plan. If the plan is implemented to the letter as intended, we will add $12 trillion in debt over the next decade.
2. Obama is the Big Winner in the Debt-Ceiling Debate
This isn't Monday-morning quarterbacking. For one thing, it's not football season yet. For another, the game wasn't played on Sunday afternoon. It's been going on for weeks, with twists and turns more reminiscent of comic opera than football.
Even so, today's media game has been all about deciding who got the better deal. Many of the partisans think they came up short, and are looking to blame their guys. In the media (which sees any legislation as an achievement, no matter how hollow, cynical, or ultimately ineffectual), many are scoring this as a win for both sides. (That's to say, all of the parties will be able to go back to their respective bases with something to brag about.)
Around the middle of last week, I lost track of the specific content of the deals, which was in constant flux. And the media lost track of it too! The only reporting, it seemed, was about who was up (Boehner, Reid, Obama) and who was down at any point in time. That tells you all you need to know about how cynical and empty this whole process has been.
3. Barack Obama is Keyser Soze
He's got the Democrats to take the fall with the base, convinced Obama is an inept negotiator.
He's got the GOP befuddled thinking they've had some success.
Meanwhile, Obama himself gets several loose ends sewn together that could complicate his re-election, including the debt ceiling, spending cuts, and tax reform.
And if he pulls it all off and wins re-election, he's also secured full funding for Obamacare, killed off the Bush tax cuts for good, and probably cut defense spending enough to be re-allocated elsewhere in 2013.
People saying the Democrats were big losers are right. On policy.
But politically, Obama is a massive winner and if he wins re-election will also have some long term liberal policy victories greeting him January 1, 2013.
4. The Attempted Terrorist Attack by the Face of Peaceful Islam, and the Problems it Presents for Media and Muslims Alike
A second terrorist attack on soldiers stationed at Fort Hood, Texas in under two years was discovered last week, and its plotter, Private First Class Naser Jason Abdo, was arrested before the attack could be carried out. The latter fact, of course, differentiates this plot from the successful attack carried out by Major Nidal Hasan in November 2009, when the Army officer and Islamist radical gunned down thirteen people - including a pregnant woman - and wounded thirty-two more, while yelling "Allahu Akbar!" after receiving counseling and religious justification for the attack from the Yemen-based, American-born al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.
Abdo was formally charged in federal court Friday with possession of an "unregistered destructive device." The plot that was foiled last week, allegedly inspired by Hasan's rampage (Abdo reportedly yelled "Nidal Hasan, Fort Hood 2009!" in court Friday), involved attacking a popular (and still unspecified) off-post restaurant with pipe (pressure cooker) bombs, and then using a handgun to shoot any who survived the blast. According to law enforcement officials, the attack was planned for Thursday - the day after Abdo was arrested. His next appearance in court is reportedly scheduled for 2 pm on August 4, at the Waco Federal Courthouse.
5. Is Gov. Steve Beshear (D, KY) extorting campaign contributions?
That's the rather bombshell allegation being made today; the gist is that Rodney Young (a retiring psychologist for the Department of Juvenile Justice has reported that his colleagues were the target of an attempt to extort $500 contributions to Steve Beshear's re-election campaign, with the threat that they could lose their jobs if they did not so contribute. The major argument against this happening is that it would be EXTREMELY STUPID of anyone affiliated with the Governor to make this kind of threat.
6. WSJ Misses the Mark on Oil Markets and the SPR
An article by Sarah Kent in Monday's Wall Street Journal, "Traders Eye Oil Tanker Play", (full text requires subscription*) purports to explain current action in the oil market, as 30 million barrels of crude oil are due to be released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) before August 31.

Invite your liberal friends to a Norman Borlaug birthday dinner celebration.
Give them two dining options: organicor Borlaug. Treat those who opt for "organic" to a small, misshapen carrot, explaining apologetically that that's all you can spare because organic food is so costly and land-expensive. Treat those who take the Borlaug option to as much genetically modified food as they can possibly eat-true to the spirit of the great American agronomist who saved perhaps a billion lives by launching his "green revolution" using genetically modified strains of wheat, which rescued countries like India and Pakistan from starvation.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Syria's Killing Fields
Posted by Rick Moran on Aug 1st, 2011
President Bashar Assad's bloody crackdown on protesters who are now openly seeking regime change took an ominous turn over the weekend. In the city of Hama, an armored attack on thousands of protesters killed at least 150 civilians on Sunday. There were also reports of attacks by the army in at least four other cities with dozens more killed. The severity of this latest confrontation has been attributed to the onset of the holy month of Ramadan, during which time protests are expected to greatly intensify. Some observers are questioning whether anti-regime protesters will actually be able to deal a serious blow to the Assad government during this volatile month - or whether the regime's brutality will be too much to withstand.
The escalation appears to be part of an emerging strategy by Assad to increase the brutality in hot spots across the country in an attempt to intimidate and cow regime opponents. The government is particularly concerned that the month of August will see massive protests daily, as worshipers attend prayers at their local mosques and, as has been the custom, pour into the streets afterward. Anders Breivik's attack on the youth camp of the Norwegian Labour Party has its most obvious precedent in the Maalot Massacre when Palestinian Muslim gunmen attacked an Israeli elementary school, taking over a hundred children hostage, and then using automatic weapons to kill as many of them as they could. But the link between Maalot and Utoya is more than casual. The Workers Youth League which ran the camp had a long history of supporting the same kind of terrorists who had perpetrated the Maalot Massacre.

Small spending cuts to have little impact
No cuts till 2014
The first phase of a deal to raise the government's borrowing limit would pose little threat to the economy in the short term because almost none of the spending cuts would occur before 2014.
Discretionary spending, which excludes Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, would be cut by $21 billion in 2012 and $42 billion in 2013, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office. That's a small fraction of the nation's $14 trillion economy.

PIMCO CEO Mohamed El-Erian: Budget deal will only bring short-term relief
America might still lose AAA credit rating
One of the most prominent global investors says that a potential budget deal in Washington will only bring short-term relief, and it won't remove the threat of a U.S. debt downgrade by credit rating agencies.
"I think this compromise will lead to an increase in the debt ceiling, and therefore avoid default," said Mohamed El-Erian, CEO of PIMCO, a global investment firm and one of the world's largest bond investors said today on ABC's "This Week With Christiane Amanpour." "But this relief will be short."

Middle classes to be hit by tax increase by the back door
On the backs of the middle class
President Barack Obama today faced furious reaction to his last-minute debt deal, with experts slamming the agreement as a cruel means of hitting middle classes with tax hikes 'through the back door'.
The President and congressional leaders last night finally announced an agreement on emergency legislation to avert the nation's first-ever financial default.

Tea Party News Monday, August 1st
One might think that the recent drama over the debt ceiling involves one side wanting to increase or maintain spending with the other side wanting to drastically cut spending, but that is far from the truth. No plan under serious consideration cuts spending in the way you and I think about it. The "cuts" being discussed are not cuts from current amounts being spent, but cuts in projected spending increases. The truth is that rhetoric about default is being carelessly thrown around to ram through a bigger budget than ever. A balanced budget is similarly simple and within reach if Washington had just a tiny amount of fiscal common sense. In Washington terms, a simple freeze in spending would be a much bigger "cut" than any plan being discussed. If politicians simply cannot bear to implement actual cuts to actual spending, just freezing the budget would give the economy the best chance to catch its breath, recover and grow. [The Hill, Aug. 1] Click here for the complete source story
"Reductions of the magnitude now being proposed would likely lead Moody's to adopt a negative outlook on the AAA rating. The chances of a significant improvement in the long-term credit profile of the government coming from deficit reductions proposed in either plan are not high." "It remains our expectation that the government will continue with timely debt service. If the debt limit is not raised before August 2, we believe that revenues would be more than adequate for some period of time to meet those payments, although other outlays would be severely reduced as a result." Some people are calling for a "clean" Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA). But there are two types of a clean BBA, one of which would be worse than the mess we have today. One would only require that government spend less than it collects, and there are two ways to fix that. The first is cutting spending, and the second is raising taxes. Some supporters of a clean BBA are not too worried. But others are concerned that a judge could order a tax increase if the BBA only says that spending must be less than revenues. The framers intended that all revenue control be in the congress. But a "clean" BBA would change that. It would create a constitutional command. A private party with standing could ask a federal judge to remedy a violation of a clean BBA by ordering increases in taxes to close budgetary gaps, instead of spending cuts. To grant judges the power to raise taxes would create a perverse incentive for members of Congress who wanted to raise taxes but were politically vulnerable to foster gridlock on spending battles, then let the courts do their dirty work for them by increasing taxes to make up the shortfall. "Budget Control Act" Will Gut Defense, Hike Taxes
It was a busy weekend, full of spin and closed door meetings. Regrettably, the final debt deal - the Budget Control Act - is insufficient to the task at hand, which is why Heritage Action remains adamantly opposed.
The deal would increase the debt ceiling by $900 billion now, in exchange for Washington-style cuts. It would also give tremendous power to a 12-member committee that will pave the way for tax hikes. Not only that, but if conservatives don't agree to the tax hikes, then a so-called trigger would automatically cut our nation's security by $600 billion.
>> Read our Key Vote alert, which we sent to Capitol Hill this morning, here.
This is not the kind of deal that our country needs right now. That being said, conservatives should take heart that the Washington establishment is increasingly adopting our rhetoric. Those promoting this deal promise that it won't raise taxes. They promise that it cuts spending. And they promise that it can lead to a balanced budget for our country.
Despite the fact that the policy of the deal does not support these promises, this is a sign that our message is winning. Now is the time for us to redouble our efforts and to force Washington to do more than just adopt our message. It is time for Washington to come to grips with our national plight and enact conservative policies that actually put our nation back on a sound fiscal path.
And we will have our chance in very short order. There will be a fight over appropriations in September and a fight over the super-committee's recommendation's throughout the fall. As we move closer to November of 2012, the plight of Obamacare and the need to repeal it will come back into focus.
With your continued help I am confident we will succeed in this task.
Sincerely, | | | |

Grassfire Nation Alert
Obama and Boehner struck a debt ceiling deal yesterday.
House and Senate votes are imminent TODAY.
Rush Limbaugh said today that he'd "love to support it, but.", noting that this deal is NOT a victory for the Tea Party.
The fact is, it's a dirty deal. Here are a few reasons why:
--The "dollar-for-dollar" spending cuts are not real.
Obama gets $900 billion in debt ceiling increase NOW in exchange for $1 trillion in spending cuts OVER TEN YEARS.
As we know, future "cuts" in government spending are not cuts at all.
--The real causes of runaway government spending are not addressed. Entitlements are left untouched. Baseline budgeting (which guarantees ever-rising government
spending) is intact.
--The risk of a downgrade in our credit rating has not been addressed because runaway spending has not been addressed!
--The Obama Stimulus levels of spending are now permanently entrenched in future government spending models.
--The debt only rises in a never-ending upward trajectory.
The $900 billion raise in the debt ceiling will not even last one year. An additional $1.2 trillion in additional debt will be "triggered" to carry the nation through the election.
--There are allegedly NO tax increases but that is smoke and mirrors because the CBO is projecting that the Bush tax cuts will not be extended. If the Bush cuts are NOT extended, that amounts to a huge tax increase. If the Bush tax cuts ARE extended, the CBO projections fall apart and other tax increases will be mandated by the trigger mechanism in this bill.
--Finally... the LEFT is coming away from this debate with one of their key goals accomplished: demonizing the Tea Party. According to Politico on Friday, the Tea Party has moved from "hostage takers" to "full-blown terrorists" who are "craven to inflict massive harm on innocent victims to achieve their political goals." A Land Without History
"In a land without history, whoever furbishes the national memory, coins the concepts and interprets the past will win the future."
Michael Sturmer Tell me who you are and I can tell you how you see the past. That vanishing country falling away behind us. Are we on the way up or the way down? Are we better off than we were four years ago, or forty or four hundred? Is this the best of times or the worst of times? The answer lies inside you. It is defined by your values. For some capacitive touchscreens and infinite channels mean a brighter future. For others, the values of home and family, dignity and country, that were lost matter more than the swipe pass and the digital swoosh. The furniture of America's national memory has been slowly and stealthily moved out and replaced with new sleek and modern styles. History has been altered, twisted and turned to the purposes of the planners of our brand new future. The battle for the past is also the battle for the future. And he who defines the past, has a lock on determining what the future will be. It is not just the technical debates over laws and spending bills that matter, but the much larger cultural debate over who we are. If we cede that debate, then we give up everything. And the spending bills will pass anyway and the legislative machine will grind on without fail. Ideology depends on that narrative of progress. America defined it as the progress from duty based central government to rights based self-government. Communism as the journey from feudalism to capitalism to communism. For Islam, it is a march backward to recapture the glory days of the Caliphate. For China it is a technocratic empire without emperors. The journey from the past to the present shows where you are going. It shapes the expected attitudes that people think they are supposed to have. Read more: |

Liberals Force Choice Between Economic and National Security
Put the security of the nation at risk or raise taxes. This is the sour "deal" liberal lawmakers are offering in exchange for insufficient spending cuts, according to reports of this weekend's debt negotiations in Washington.
The framework that Republicans and Democrats are close to approving would raise the debt limit by at least $2.1 trillion and get Obama and congressional Democrats past their target date: Election Day 2012. In return for this generous political cover, Democrats would agree to a modest $1 trillion in supposed cuts spread out over 10 years; $350 billion of those "upfront" savings come from gutting national security resources.
A trillion dollars over 10 years is not sufficient to impress credit rating agencies, which have threatened to downgrade America's credit status unless Congress enacts real measures to reform spending and lower the deficit. In fact, on Friday, Moody's announced that neither the Boehner plan nor the Reid plan had sufficient cuts, saying: "Reductions of the magnitude now being proposed, if adopted, would likely lead Moody's to adopt a negative outlook on the AAA rating." The current plan does not improve upon either of those earlier plans.

Chris Matthews Will Not Like This One!
My Interview with Rep. Joe Walsh
Dear Fellow Patriot:
If last week's interview with Sen. Jim DeMint was a sit-down with a weathered, experienced leader, this week's interview with freshman congressman Joe Walsh (R-IL) is a breath of new, fresh air.
You may have seen Walsh leave Chris Matthews semi-speechless. You may have seen the online video of Walsh calling President Obama a liar. Now another MSNBC host has "banned" him, and the Chicago Sun-Times and New York Times seem to be trying to knock him down a peg or twelve by dredging up 8-month-old issues from his personal life.
Honestly, I can't remember ever meeting someone with the energy, courage and passion of his principles like this. And he's doing it while fending off attacks from the left.
Walsh sat down with me to talk about:
- the spending crisis in this nation and the debt ceiling issue;
- the Tea Party movement; and
- President Obama, how he got elected and what his motivations seem to be
See if you like Joe Walsh as much as I do, by clicking here:

Every Democrat once voted "No" on 14th Amendment; now they want to twist it to make Obama our king?
Aug 01, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Democrats have no shame, but this is a new low even for them.
Recent talk from Democrats, especially Congressional Black Caucus, (CBC) members about having Barack Obama cite imaginary powers they find in the 14th Amendment as a way to rule by fiat are just flat out hypocritical.
CBC member Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina clearly laid out the Democrats case for dumping our democracy and crowning Obama king so he can spend every last dollar we have. He said, "I've said time and time again, if the President gets up to August 2nd, without a piece of legislation, he should not allow this country to go into default. He should sign an Executive Order invoking the 14th Amendment and send that to all the governmental agencies for us to continue to pay our bills. He could do that with a stroke of a pen. We've seen many big ... Continue Reading:Every Democrat once voted "No" on 14th Amendment; now they want to twist it to make Obama our king?

Vote NO!
There is no financial Armageddon and here -debt service on all $14.5 trillion will be paid along with Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid checks. Military will be paid. We have not been told the whole truth by partisans and media.
The Ds are crying all the way to the bank. This is a phony compromise. The President is smirking at us.
No immediate cuts:- VP Biden agreed to $800 Billion cuts NOW - Ds, successfully, kicked spending cuts down the road so they can demagogue
Defense cuts mean withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan threatening national security
Primaries await those who capitulate to the Establishment. A "yes" vote is a deal killer.
If we don't cut, cap and balance now, then when. If not the Republicans, then who?

'Clean' Balanced Budget Amendment Could Be Trap for Conservatives
This article by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski and ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell was published July 31, 2011 on BigGovernment.com. Liberals are trying to kill the prospect of a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) in the ongoing battle over the debt ceiling. Some on the Right respond that they might settle for a "clean" BBA. But there are two types of a clean BBA, one of which would be even worse than the terrible mess we have today. Some advocate that the BBA should require only that federal outlays cannot exceed federal tax revenues. They see it as two numbers, where the former must be less than the latter. But this misses one critical point. If BBA only requires government to spend less than it collects, there are two ways to fix it. The first is cutting spending, and the second is raising taxes.

Court Dismisses Militant Atheists' Federal Suit Against Texas Gov. Rick Perry
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published July 28, 2011 on The Washington Examiner website. U.S. District Judge Gray Miller in Texas today dismissed a lawsuit against Texas Gov. Rick Perry for organizing a day of prayer at Reliant Stadium on Aug. 6, holding that the plaintiffs lacked standing to bring a suit. Perry's event, entitled "The Response," was a public call for people to participate in prayer to ask for God's help in confronting the nation's current difficulties. It was supported by the American Family Association (AFA). A militant atheist group, the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), filed a federal lawsuit to prevent Perry from being involved in the event. The FFRF was especially upset that Perry mentioned the name "Jesus Christ" in connection with the event.

President Obama Is No Longer Tethered To Reality This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for The Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published July 28, 2011 on Forbes.com. President Barack Obama's speech to the nation Monday night was highly disturbing. Because read carefully, it reveals a president wildly divorced from the fundamental realities of the nation he is supposed to be leading. President Obama actually told America on national television that it is a nation "with a system in which the deck seems stacked against middle class Americans in favor of the wealthiest few." It is incomprehensible how a man serving as president of these United States could make such a fundamentally false assertion about his own country. As I explain in my new book, America's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb, before Obama was even elected, official IRS data showed that for 2007 the top 1% of income earners paid more in federal income taxes than the bottom 95% combined. The top 1% paid 40.4% of all federal income taxes that year, almost twice their share of income. The middle fifth of income earners, the actual middle class, paid 4.7% of federal income taxes. Deck stacked against the middle class in favor of the wealthiest few? Read the Entire Column Don't Blame the House This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for The Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published July 27, 2011 on The American Spectator website. The indisputable facts show that Congressional Republicans have done their job. Months ago, the House Republican majority passed the budget proposed by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI). Ryan's budget provided for $6.2 trillion in spending cuts for its first 10 years alone. Over the long run, it drives federal spending to 15% of GDP, well below the postwar historical average of 20%. Ryan's budget included tax reform to get the economy booming again, with a 25% top income-tax rate for incomes over $100,000 a year, and a 10% rate for incomes below that. The internationally uncompetitive federal corporate tax rate of 35% would be reduced to 25%, which would return federal taxes to their long term, postwar, historical average of 18% of GDP. Because that figure is higher than our spending, the Ryan budget eventually pays off the national debt entirely. Yes, that takes decades. $14 trillion is a big debt to pay. It takes that long because the careful reforms are designed so that no one is actually hurt by the changes -- senseless Democratic rhetoric to the contrary notwithstanding. The Democrats just don't like it because by reducing government dependency it threatens their political machine. Read the Entire Column |

"Public affairs go on pretty much as usual: perpetual chicanery and rather more personal abuse than there used to be." --John Adams
Editor's Note
Boehner, Obama and Reid
The debt-ceiling "deal" agreed to by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), and President Barack Obama over the weekend is Washington politics at its finest: Cut $2 trillion from federal spending over a decade in return for adding $2.4 trillion to the current $14.3 trillion debt this year. That's enough that the debt ceiling debate won't have to occur again until after the 2012 elections, throwing Obama a life preserver. What a deal! (Yeah, we know. You could cut the sarcasm with a knife.)
We're not the only ones who aren't happy, either. The New York Times editorialized against the "hostage-taking demands of Republican extremists," and Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver (D-MO) called it a "sugar-coated Satan sandwich." If they feel that way about cuts in growth rates over 10 years, just imagine what they would say if spending were actually cut. Fortunately, the deal includes no tax hikes, and that's a Tea Party victory that will help the economy.
All things considered, this deal is just about as good as we could hope for without controlling the Senate or the White House, and it's a launching pad for gaining just that in next year's election.
What do you think?

"House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) told GOP members on a conference call Sunday evening that he had reached a deal with congressional leaders and the White House, but that it wouldn't happen 'unless we have membership on board.' It remains to be seen how many House Republicans will end up supporting the final package, but members on the call told National Review Online they thought it would ultimately pass with bipartisan support. ... Members described the tone of the call as overwhelmingly positive, with many praising Boehner's efforts in the negotiations. ... According to sources, Boehner said the deal was 'the best that we could get.' In particular, he thanked the 87 freshman members for their input, without which 'we wouldn't have gotten this far.' ... Freshman Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R., Ind.) told NRO that with 'the most liberal president we've ever had' occupying the White House, the Tea Party and the conservative movement have done all right for themselves. 'I think the Tea Party needs to take credit for changing the dialogue in Washington to be about cutting spending,' he said. 'But whether I vote for this plan or not, it's not enough. This isn't the end of the fight.' ... Boehner told members he would like to vote on the plan as early as Monday night, and apologized for the short notice. Leaders will meet with the entire conference Monday to further discuss the details of the plan." --National Review's Andrew Stiles

"In response to Friday's Digest, the American people think congressmen mean actual spending cuts when they refer to spending cuts. All the spending cuts they are planning and arguing over are cuts to future spending plans, accommodations to the ever-expanding government bureaucracy. Nine hundred billion dollars over ten years is a meaningless drop in the budget. Democrats, bureaucrats and Obama can then continue to spend trillions every year? What a joke, no, an insult. It's really time to first, freeze spending, then start eliminating departments." --Patricia
Essential Liberty
"Government by the elected representatives of the people is coming to be government by two (or three or four) men in a secret room pronouncing the new law that will be rubber-stamped -- or else! Accepting such a process as normal is a new phenomenon, but it is becoming in Washington an acceptable procedure. ... Even the smartest, best-informed presidents and speakers ... cannot possibly know the fuller implications of all the agreements they are making. ... The top leaders are incapable of drafting a big technical bill. The details will get written by staffers and regulators after the bill is enacted into law. That is why now, for example, a year after the Dodd-Frank financial regulation law was passed, more than 200 regulations -- all the teeth of the bill -- have yet to be even drafted by regulators. That is why when regular order is followed and laws are enacted as they have been for 200 years -- both in Congress and the executive branch -- hundreds of highly specialized staffers have to be called upon to explain what broad-brush numbers will mean in real life. ... Each time we have one of these secret deal negotiations -- instead of regular order -- the magnitude of the proposed change in our way of life gets bigger, and the process gets more exclusive and sloppier. This is not only bad legislating but also dangerous to our constitutional process." --columnist Tony Blankley
Opinion in Brief
"[N]obody loves Obama. This is amazing because every president has people who love him, who feel deep personal affection or connection, who have a stubborn, even beautiful refusal to let what they know are just criticisms affect their feelings of regard. ... The secret of Mr. Obama is that he isn't really very good at politics, and he isn't good at politics because he doesn't really get people. ... The fact is, he's good at dismantling. He's good at critiquing. He's good at not being the last guy, the one you didn't like. But he's not good at building, creating, calling into being. He was good at summoning hope, but he's not good at directing it and turning it into something concrete that answers a broad public desire. And so his failures in the debt ceiling fight. He wasn't serious, he was only shrewd -- and shrewdness wasn't enough. ... So he is losing a battle in which he had superior forces -- the presidency, the U.S. Senate. In the process he revealed that his foes have given him too much mystique. He is not a devil, an alien, a socialist. He is a loser. And this is America, where nobody loves a loser." --columnist Peggy Noonan

"Can anyone look at the record of this administration and say, 'Well done'? Can anyone compare the state of our economy when [this] administration took office with where we are today and say, 'Keep up the good work'? Can anyone look at our reduced standing in the world today and say, 'Let's have four more years of this'?" --Ronald Reagan
Re: The Left
"While Obama seldom misses an opportunity to blame his problems on the situation he inherited from President Bush, he says nothing about all the hundreds of billions of dollars in stimulus money he inherited from the Bush administration. Incidentally, this 'stimulus' money did not do any more stimulating under George W. Bush than under Barack H. Obama. Nevertheless, Obama is an accomplished master at playing the blame game. Having gotten all the political credit for the money he has showered on his favorites from coast to coast, he now seeks to share the blame for the resulting financial crisis with Republicans, by maneuvering them into a position where they have to help solve the debt crisis that Obama created. He has done this in great part by simply speaking of spending cuts mostly in the abstract, leaving it to the Republicans to be specific, and thus have them face the wrath from the constituencies who support the programs they want to cut." --economist Thomas Sowell

"The Pew Research Center showed Democrats with a 51 percent to 39 percent party identification edge over Republicans in its 2008 polls. Now Pew Research has come out with figures for 2011. They're not good news for Barack Obama and the Democrats. The Democratic Party identification edge has been reduced to 47 percent to 43 percent. ... The Pew analysts note, as if they were analyzing a growth stock, that the Republicans' numbers haven't improved since 2010. But the 2010 numbers yielded a 52 percent to 45 percent Republican lead in the popular vote for the House. If -- and it's always a big if -- Republicans can maintain that standing in party identification, they should be in fine shape in November 2012, even with increased presidential year turnout." --political analyst Michael Barone
For the Record
"The New York Times wasted no time in jumping to conclusions about Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian who staged two deadly attacks in Oslo last weekend, claiming in the first two paragraphs of one story that he was a 'gun-loving,' 'right-wing,' 'fundamentalist Christian,' opposed to 'multiculturalism.' ... This was a big departure from the Times' conclusion-resisting coverage of the Fort Hood shooting suspect, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan. Despite reports that Hasan shouted 'Allahu Akbar!' as he gunned down his fellow soldiers at a military medical facility in 2009, only one of seven Times articles on Hasan so much as mentioned that he was a Muslim. ... True, in one lone entry on Breivik's gaseous 1,500-page manifesto, '2083: A European Declaration of Independence,' he calls himself 'Christian.' But unfortunately he also uses a great number of other words to describe himself, and these other words make clear that he does not mean 'Christian' as most Americans understand the term. ... In fact, at several points in his manifesto, Breivik stresses that he has a beef with Christians for their soft-heartedness. ... He goes on to say that a 'Christian fundamentalist theocracy' is 'everything we DO NOT want,' and a 'secular European society' is 'what we DO want.' ... Breivik says he is 'not an excessively religious man,' brags that he is 'first and foremost a man of logic,' calls himself 'economically liberal' and reveres Darwinism. But Times reporters had their 'Eureka!' moment as soon as they heard Breivik used the word 'Christian' someplace to identify himself." --columnist Ann Coulter
Faith & Family
"Texas Republican governor and potential presidential candidate Rick Perry will headline a 'Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis' on Aug. 6 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. ... While wringing their hands and even threatening legal action against the Aug. 6 gathering ... the ACLU of Texas and its fellow ideological travelers have said nothing about another prayer meeting that took place last week in the White House. Here is how Jim Wallis of the liberal Christian magazine 'Sojourners' described that meeting on his website: 'I, along with 11 other national faith leaders, met with President Obama and senior White House staff for 40 minutes. We were representing the Circle of Protection, which formed in a commitment to defend the poor in the budget debates. Sitting in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, we opened in prayer, grasping hands across the table, and read scripture together. We reminded ourselves that people of faith must evaluate big decisions on issues like a budget by how they impact the most vulnerable.' ... If this had been a prayer meeting hosted by conservative evangelical leaders with President George W. Bush in attendance and the prayers were about conservative social policies, one can safely predict how liberals would have reacted. But since this was about maintaining government spending for social programs favored by liberals, these prayers were no problem for them." --columnist Cal Thomas
"[B]ack in 1953, the NAACP waged a campaign against CBS and the Blatz Brewing Company. The purpose of the proposed boycott was to get 'Amos 'n' Andy' knocked off the tube because, the pinheads complained, it portrayed blacks in a stereotypical fashion. The network and the beer company caved, and just like that, black cast members Spencer Williams, Amanda Randolph, Johnny Lee, Nick Stewart and the marvelous Tim Moore, joined the ranks of the unemployed. Yet, here it is, 58 years later, and you don't hear the NAACP griping about such embarrassing stereotypes as Maxine Waters, Bobby Rich, Barbara Lee, James Clyburn, Melvin Watt, Jesse Jackson, Jr. or Sheila Jackson Lee, serving for decades in the House of Representatives. If, as I've heard, a nation of sheep breeds a government of wolves, I think it's fair to say that a nation of black sheep breeds a government of really ignorant, self-serving, wolves." --columnist Burt Prelutsky

House Immigration Subcommittee Holds Hearing on HALT Act
On Tuesday, the House Judiciary's Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement held a hearing on H.R. 2497, the "Hinder the Administration's Legalization Temptation" or "HALT" Act. The HALT Act, introduced by Judiciary Chairman Rep. Dear Supporter,
As you may have heard, Wisconsin will be holding a series of recall elections in the coming weeks, and as we know, voter turnout is typically low during recall elections. The Wisconsin chapter of AFP launched a large scale nonpartisan Get-Out-The-Vote program that utilizes one of the most efficient and effective at-home phone bank systems available. This technology provides activists throughout the country an opportunity to use their own telephone to encourage Wisconsin voters to turn out on Election Day for the upcoming recall elections.
Supporter, thank you for your dedicated efforts in the past. Will you help AFP make calls again? Your help will make a big difference in ensuring as many voters as possible get to the polls.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Wisconsin AFP nonpartisan GOTV effort, contact the AFP Wisconsin headquarters at 414-476-7900 or email at infoWI@afphq.org.
Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Americans for Prosperity
Americans for Prosperity is nonpartisan and does not support or oppose candidates for public office. This effort is meant to encourage voters to exercise their right to vote on Election Day.

Higher fuel standards mean higher death toll
By: Examiner Editorial | 07/28/11
President Obama reportedly has secured agreements from Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, Honda and Hyundai to raise the Corporate Average Fuel Economy fleet average standard to 54.5 mpg by 2025.
Much as President Obama and other liberals may think natural laws for things like physics and economics don't matter, the reality is they do and nowhere more so than on American highways. The president reportedly has secured agreements from Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, Honda and Hyundai to raise the Corporate Average Fuel Economy fleet average standard to 54.5 mpg by 2025. The new standard will be reviewed in 2018, but that won't change the fact that automakers will immediately have to embark on efforts to lighten and downsize all of their models. Those that can't be made sufficiently small to reach the required fleet average will go the way of the Model T. Celebrating School Choice: Milton Friedman's 99th Birthday
Rachel Sheffield
As the new school year approaches, more children than ever before now have the opportunity to attend a school of their choice. Some 200,000 students are benefiting from private school choice in America. Not only is this great news for families, but it would have been great news to Milton Friedman¬-sometimes called the father of modern school reform-who would have celebrated his 99th birthday on July 31.
In 1955, Milton Friedman wrote about the limited educational opportunities that exist when children are assigned to public schools based on their zip code, as most still are today. He advocated for school choice as a mechanism to improve education by allowing the free market to operate, ensuring the best schools are available to children. He noted that by allowing school choice, "Parents could express their views about schools directly, by withdrawing their children from one school and sending them to another, to a much greater extent than is now possible." He added: "In general, they can now take this step only by simultaneously changing their place of residence."
Although there is a long way to go in providing all children the opportunity to choose a school that best meets their needs, school choice options are beginning to proliferate across the country, prompting the Wall Street Journal to dub 2011 "The Year of School Choice."
This year alone, nearly every state introduced some type of legislation to open or expand school choice. And thirteen states created or expanded school choice programs-more than in any other previous year. Currently, 18 states and Washington, D.C. offer scholarship programs that allow students to use their state education funding to attend a private school of their choice. In most cases, these scholarships are provided for lower-income students or those with special education needs.
Nine states provide tax-credits to individuals or corporations who make donations towards scholarships. In some instances, parents receive a direct tax credit for expenses paid toward private school tuition or other educational expenses. Other programs provide tax credits to those individuals or businesses that donate to a scholarship-granting organization, which provide vouchers to children to attend a private school of their choice.
Beyond private school choice, more and more states are allowing students to transfer from one public school to another in their state. And an increasing number of charter schools provide students another option to attend a school of their choice.
Virtual education is also growing across the nation. Not only does this type of education provide students flexibility in when and where they take their courses, but it gives them the chance to take courses that might not otherwise be available to them. Just this year, Utah passed a law to allow students to use part of their state education dollars to take online courses, in addition to their traditional high school classes.
Providing students with education opportunity increases the likelihood that they will receive the best education possible. Milton Friedman knew this in 1955, and it rings true today. Across the nation, families are standing for school choice, and more state leaders are taking on the charge to open the doors of educational opportunity. This trend will hopefully continue in more states, ensuring an even greater extent of educational options exist for all our nation's students.

Rand Paul attacked by CNN 'reporter'
This is why conservative politicians cave - when they stand for what they believe in, here's the reward they get from the media.
