Quote:
"A constitution founded on these principles introduces knowledge among the people, and inspires them with a conscious dignity becoming freemen; a general emulation takes place, which causes good humor, sociability, good manners, and good morals to be general. That elevation of sentiment inspired by such a government, makes the common people brave and enterprising. That ambition which is inspired by it makes them sober, industrious, and frugal."

Biden Charges Secret Service Rent to Use Cottage Next to His Home
Associated Press | Published July 31, 2011
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Secret Service is charged with protecting Joe Biden and his family, but the agency is also charged $2,200 a month to rent a cottage next to the vice president's Delaware home. Records show Biden has collected more than $13,000 since April on the cottage in Greenville, a wealthy Wilmington suburb, and is eligible for up to $66,000 before the contract expires in 2013. Asked if the Secret Service typically pays rent to those it protects, agency spokesman Edwin Donovan told The Washington Times, "It's a rental property so we pay rent there." Citizens Against Government Waste's Leslie Paige says the agency should do all it can to protect Biden, but one would think the vice president who shepherded the deficit committee would think twice before charging the agency.

Press Release:
AFDI/SIOA 9/11 Freedom Rally:
Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America
NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.
Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."
AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.
The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.
Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. McCarthy; popular radio host Joyce Kaufman; Darla Dawald, National Director of the Patriot Action Network; James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST); Coptic Christian activist Joseph Nassralla; Iraqi ex-Muslim Paul Gaynos.
Hosting the rally are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.
Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York. Cordoba Initiative board member imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an open proponent of Sharia, Islamic law, a system that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. Given the thousands of triumphal mosques that have been built on the cherished sites of conquered peoples throughout Islamic history, the mosque leaders' claim that this mosque would be understood differently by Muslims worldwide lack foundation.
The Durban III conference follows upon two previous conferences that scapegoated and demonized the state of Israel in service of Islamic jihad and Islamic supremacist interests. The rally will defend Israel against the defamation to which it will be subjected at this conference. It will also call upon the city to remove roadblocks to the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed on 9/11 and since then mired in bureaucratic red tape that has prevented its rebuilding - in stark contrast to the help Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials have given to the Ground Zero Mosque project.
AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government. We have talked to all the power brokers. The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God. It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.
"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand. I ask you to join me. I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth. If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution. This is a people of faith solution. This is a people all over the world solution. I ask you to help get this word out."

Glenn Beck Restoring Courage Viewing Party : On Wednesday, August 24 we will be streaming the event at The Moose and we're inviting everyone to come down and share this together. Many of us went to the Restoring Honor event last year and we were deeply moved by the day's events. Being with others we know made this even more special. Although we are not going to travel to Israel, we are hoping that we can recreate that atmosphere here in Bucks County. We are still in the development stages of this event and would like to hear your suggestions on how to have it work out. And if you can help with the planning, set up and the break down, please let us know. These events are even more special when you are part of the effort to make it come off well for everyone who comes. Be sure to invite your friends and family to come as well. This would be a great opportunity to meet other patriots and meet some new ones. Let us know you are coming on our Facebook event post .

Patriots,
The Pa legislature is going to have its first hearing ever on a Right to Work package of legislation (House Bills 50-53). It will be held on Tuesday, August 16 from 1-4 p.m. in room 205 of the Ryan Office Building. There is no doubt that the unions will be out in force to try to intimidate members of the Labor committee. If you can get out to the hearing that would be great, please let as many people know about it as possible so members know that the grassroots support Right to Work.

Dear Patriot,
Our August meeting will be held in conjunction with the Kitchen Table Patriots to present a project to help ensure the integrity of our electoral process. This is a genuine non-partisan issue. Win or lose candidates for office should be able to rely on the officials who oversee the polls on Election Day so that every legitimate vote is counted.
"True the Vote" is an initiative developed by citizens for citizens, to inspire and equip volunteers for involvement at every stage of our electoral process and to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation. We are looking for people to learn about this effort and get involved today to ensure we have valid elections for all. Please join us August 8th.
True the Vote
w/ TJC & KTP
Monday, August 8th, 7pm

Fellow members, Our King of Prussia branch of Valley Forge Patriots has some specific needs, and we need your help. I need two volunteers to do the following: Compile Mailing and Emailing lists. We wish to make emailings and regular post office mailings to heads of groups in this region. Such groups will include Chambers of Commerce, Veterans' Chapters, and other groups yet to be discovered. The objective is not necessarily to get them to join our group; if they do, that's fine. Our objective is to give them the straight story about our Tea Party, and to correct the glut of misinformation that's out there. 1. You will compile the names & addresses, preferably in Microsoft Excel. Once that's done, our steering committee will develop the program of emailings and letter mailings, and prepare the messages. Initially, I expect no more than fifty names will be involved, so this is not an endless task. I already have printouts of the officers of Veterans' groups in this region, which contains some or all of the name & addresses. Your job is to key them into Excel. 2. For chambers of commerce, business groups and the like, you'll need to do some searching on the internet. Once we've got the contact info from you, we'll prepare the messages. Those that can be emailed will be handled by my office. Those that are to be mailed will be printed here, along with address labels, and turned over to you for handling. 3. Your job will also be to fold, stuff, affix mailing label and stamp (which we provide) and then put them in the mail. You can do this at my office or at your home, days or evenings. We expect to do three such mailings or emailings per year, consisting of news about us, an information sheet, and anything else that helps tell our story. For those where we have email addresses, we'll also invite them to attend our meetings Assuming a final list that totals about fifty, this task will require a minimal number of your hours per year. We wish to get this program rolling as soon as we can, so I will appreciate your response. Ideally, I feel that two people will be the right number for this task. Contact me by phone or email. CONSTITUTION GROUP BRINGING "LIBERTY BREAKFAST" TO CHESTER COUNTY
(Lebanon, PA) - The Constitutional Organization Of Liberty (COOL), a conservative, non-partisan educational organization, has announced it will be hosting a "Liberty Breakfast" in Downingtown on Saturday, August 6.
Mark Thomas of Cornwall, Chairman of COOL, said that the five-year old organization has arranged for the morning function at the Old Country Buffet, beginning at 8:30 AM.
"We're very excited about bringing our breakfast to Chester County," Thomas said. "We have hosted courses and functions throughout central Pennsylvania but this is the first one we have held in Chester County."
Thomas said that the Liberty Breakfasts are new for 2011 as they found a number of individuals were interested in gaining additional knowledge about the Constitution but were not able to commit to long term coursework.
"After the successful classes we had last year, COOL's Board went ahead and approved the use of the breakfast model in order to broaden our access and appeal to the different locations we think would be receptive to our courses and educational approach," he said.
Carris Kocher, of the Bill of Rights Bicentennial Committee, which, along with Chester County ACTION, is hosting the breakfast, said she personally made arrangements for the breakfast in Downingtown and is looking for a strong turnout.
"This area has a large number of deeply convicted individuals when it comes to the Constitution and how the law should be applied," Kocher said. "I really felt the time had come to start combining COOL's strong educational expertise with the conservative activists in the area."
Kocher also noted that since 2011 is the 275th anniversary of Patrick Henry's birth, the breakfast will include a musical tribute to Patrick Henry by Charlie Zahm of Philadelphia,
"Charlie is an outstanding musician with a wealth of musical talent and historical knowledge," Kocher said. "He is popular at Maritime, Early American and Celtic festivals, and his rich voice is matched only by his masterful guitar playing."
"Having this tribute to Patrick Henry at this event seemed fitting," Kocher said, "as, without Patrick Henry, there would be no Bill of Rights and no First Amendment."
State Senator Mike Folmer (R-48th), who serves as a Board member for COOL, attended the first Liberty Breakfast in Palmyra and said he was very pleased with the function.
"I enjoyed the fact that the breakfast allows participants to gain additional knowledge about the Constitution and our Founding documents without feeling pressured to stick to a long term schedule," Folmer said. "And for an elected official like myself it is a great time to just catch up with local constituents without having to worry about being the center of attention."
"Anyone who attends these breakfasts comes out learning something," he said.
The topic for the Liberty Breakfast scheduled for August 6 will be "The First Amendment" and will feature both a review of the Amendment as well as an open discussion of the critical aspects of it.
The meeting room at the Old Country Buffet has been reserved and breakfast will be served ala carte whereby participants will order and pay for their own meals. After the meal, the forum will begin, and there is no charge to participate, although donations will be solicited.
Attendance confirmation is requested to ensure sufficient seating in the meeting room, and may be made by contacting Kocher via e-mail at kochercj@verizon.net. Any other inquiries may be made directly to COOL at 717-228-7524, or by e-mail at reclaimliberty@verizon.net.

Subject: What others see plainly, we often ignore.
From a friend in Puerto Rico who fled Cuba many years ago...
*Here's something to think about. More truth than fiction.* I remember asking dad about Castro when I was about 9 years old. I asked, "Is Castro a good guy or bad?"
Dad said he couldn't tell!! This was about 1955. We were living in Louisiana at the time. Dad was in the Army there. Cuba was fairly close and in the news a lot. The Cubans were asking the same question! Ike was president. This past July, we had the pleasure of sharing a summer barbecue with a refugee from Cuba .. Our dinner conversation was starkly different than most. This refugee came to the United States as a young boy in the early 1960s.
His family was more fortunate than most as they were able to bring a suitcase and $100 when they fled Castro's newly formed revolutionary paradise. Our dinner consisted of all-American fare: hamburgers, potato salad, watermelon and fresh ears of sweet corn.
This is a menu shared with family and friends nationwide, while celebrating the birth of our beloved America on the Fourth of July. We began with a simple discussion about our country and the direction it has taken since Barack Obama came to power. We shared the usual complaints about the sour economy and liberal social engineering emanating from the rulers in Washington . But then he said it. The sentence came naturally. I assume it was unplanned.
But it carried the weight of a freight train. "You know when Castro took power, none of us knew he was a Communist" We sat stunned. He continued, "Yes, we all thought he was a patriot, a nationalist. Before the revolution he didn't sound like a radical." The comparison at this point was easy, and I interjected, "You mean just like Barack Obama?" He responded; "Yes, just like Barack Obama." He continued, "We were all shocked as the government just continued to grab more power. First they said the revolution is over, so please turn in your guns. We all complied." "I remember my uncle saying after it started; 'Castro will only nationalize some of the big industries, he will never come and take our family hardware store.' But that is exactly what happened; Castro started with the sugar mills and the large industries, but they eventually came and knocked on the door of our family hardware store. My family had run this store for generations. They said we now own the hardware store, you work for us. And that nice, large four-bedroom home you own, it is now our property also, and you can move yourself and five children into two rooms of the house because others are moving in with you." The lesson learned from this discussion is a lesson most Americans refuse to hear. Political leaders can lie about their agenda and once in office they can take totally unexpected turns. If you had asked us three years ago if we thought General Motors would be nationalized, we would have never believed it. We could never contemplate a country where the rule of law, the most fundamental building block of a justice society would be evaporating just like it did in Castro's Cuba in the early 1960s. But the news of injustice keeps increasing. Black Panthers are not charged with wrongdoing by the U.S. Department of Justice because their crimes are against whites. The bondholders of GM are stripped of their assets without due process by the government. Governmental leaders are bribed in full daylight only to have all investigation of the crimes stifled by the Attorney General.
The U.S. borders are overrun with crime and illegal activity and the leaders in D.C. act as if it is important to protect the lawbreakers while the innocent are killed and overrun. When local communities attempt to enforce the law, they are ridiculed and threatened as racists and bigots. They are sued by the very administration entrusted with enforcing the law. Without the rule of law the U.S. Constitution is a sham. Without the rule of law our beloved America is swiftly becoming a country where only the well connected and politically powerful will be safe. As Michelle Malkin has so eloquently explained in her recent book, a culture of corruption has replaced honest government. The only way this problem will be fixed is by massive citizen action. All honest citizens that want to be treated equally must come together and demand that the favoritism, the bribes, the uneven enforcement of law end now. And yes, it can happen here. PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW ... And may God save the United States of America !
*Personally, I believe it is happening here, and if you think so too the least you can do is forward this email. 6 million plus Jews didn't believe it would happen in Germany either. If you're a Christian in these United States of America you're next on the list. The real problem here is the boy from Cuba did manage to make it to the U.S. We will not have any place to escape to except death, and for the most part even though I'm forwarding this to recipients probably only 5 or 10 will even read it.

RedState Morning Briefing
For August 1, 2011
1. Not Playing the Fool
There are a lot of Republicans tonight willing to play the fool for the GOP in this debt ceiling plan. They say, for example, that there will be no tax increases from this super committee. Never mind that the Democrats are saying otherwise.
I can prove to you right now that there will be tax increases.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) expects the Bush tax cuts to expire. So all the commission has to do is two things: extend middle class Bush tax cuts and enact a permanent alternative minimum tax (AMT) patch. Those two together would look like an increase to the deficit in CBO scoring. So then the commission can start out of the gate with the ability to create several trillion dollars in new tax hikes to equal out to the cuts - cuts that will happen even without the commission most likely. And where will those cuts come from? Those making $250,000.00 or more, of course. And probably the Gang of 6?s ideas to eliminate most deductions to income taxes without revenue neutral rate reductions and the Gang of 6?s pièce de résistance - raising capital gains taxes from 15% to 28%.
Have people not been paying attention? In every single address the President has given on the debt ceiling, he has insisted on new tax revenue. John Boehner even put $800 billion on the table, so it is already there.
The House and Senate GOP leadership may have convinced themselves that they have snookered the Democrats, but even little ole me, a non-budget genius, can drive a truck through their argument. And their best response probably comes from Ryan Ellis of Americans for Tax Reform. That counter argument is best summed up as but . . . but . . . but . . . the House Leadership says so. And if puppies were unicorns, we'd all live in a fantasy land.
Apparently, young lefty Ezra Klein who thinks no one pays attention to the constitution because, dude, it's so old, is brighter than Ryan Ellis at ATR. Klein writes, "Boehner is misleading his members to make them think taxes are impossible under this deal. The Joint Committee could close loopholes and cap tax expenditures. It could impose a value-added tax, or even a tax on carbon."
There will be tax increases. The Deficit Commission will have at least one weak kneed Republican and the commission will only be as strong as its weakest link. The Bush tax cuts will also absolutely expire and not be renewed.
The alternative for the GOP would be seeing massive defense cuts and being blamed for senior citizens seeing their medicare cut. "But," House Republican leaders exclaim, "the cuts would not be to beneficiaries."
True, the cuts would be punishing doctors who will respond by denying access to medicare patients.
The Democrats are happy to force through taxes in the committee and then, when the GOP opposes them, claim the GOP would rather hurt our soldiers and seniors than raise taxes on "fat cat millionaires."
And if we've learned nothing else these past few weeks, the GOP fears more than anything else what the Democrats say about them. Don't believe me on taxes, then ask GOP leadership why they haven't put in a clear statement prohibiting them or, even better, why there is no prohibition on decoupling the middle class Bush tax cuts from the upper income Bush taxes cuts.
2. Why We Fight
Over the past week, the Tea Party has been impugned and maligned with more ferocity than ever before. Amidst our push to balance the budget, downsize job-killing government agencies and programs, and preserve our AAA credit rating, we have been condemned as extremists, suicidal, and traitors. Sadly, most of these acrimonious ad hominem attacks were propagated by those who purport to share the aforementioned goals, but feel repulsed by our "intransigent" sense of urgency. Some have even regurgitated Democrat talking points suggesting that Reagan would be labeled a RINO by the Tea Party.
These writers and commentators who supposedly share our ultimate goals for limited government, yet condemn our tactics and sense of urgency, are lacking a sober understanding of the severity of our current predicament in relation to Reagan's era.
As grim as the situation was at the time of Reagan's inauguration in 1981, it simply doesn't compare to the magnitude of our problems precipitated by the growth of the federal government, the insolvent debt, and rampant government dependency. Reagan came to power and fought for limited government in order to preclude the very eventuality that we are experiencing today. Today, in 2011, we are suffering under every pernicious effect of a tyrannical government; the magnitude to which Reagan did not experience, but presciently attempted to avert.
3. The Liar, The Witch, and The Wardrobe: Five Lies about the Debt Limit told Over the Weekend by a Fraud, a Harpie, and an "Empty Suit"
The final straw for me was a syndicated columnist who compared conservatives' opposition to John Boehner's debt limit proposal to the murder ("fragging") of American officers by their own troops in Vietnam.
As it turns out, most of my ROTC class missed Vietnam by a year. But we spent four years enduring the physical assaults and (actual) spit of the "Barack Obamas" of our generation, plus the prospect of being assigned to some of the most dangerous jobs in the world and the reports of our fellow lieutenants who died when their own troops rolled grenades under the bunks.
We were surely far from perfect. But I didn't deserve to have students try to rip the uniform of the United States off my body. Our contemporaries, whatever their flaws, didn't deserve to be murdered. And I don't deserve, now, to have our fears treated with gleeful scorn by a woman whose greatest sacrifice for this country, I'm guessing, was breaking her heel on the way to the protest rally.
4. The RedState Gathering
At the first RedState Gathering, a few people national audiences had not really heard of named Nikki Haley, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Michael Williams, and Ken Cucinnelli showed up.
Last year, we had a few more.
This year, we'll have Governor Rick Scott of Florida, Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina, Governor Rick Perry of Texas, Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Treasurer Don Stenberg of Nebraska, Rep. Adam Hasner of Florida, Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, and former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz.
And that's not all.
5. Ex-Union Member Fights $200,000 Union Fine For Working Non-Union
Unions have rules. Union members who break those rules can be placed on trial by their union and, if found guilty, can be expelled or suspended from the union. They can also be fined, as Nathaniel Musser has learned the expensive way.
6. The 22 Who Held the Line
Here are the 22 heros who defied their House leaders and opposed the Boehner plan.
Note that the South Carolina delegation comes out on tops. Its two senators, Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham, also opposed it. It's something that South Carolina has more testicular fortitude than Texas.
7. An Interesting Observation
As I wrap up what turned out to be 7 hours of radio and 3 of television, let me leave you with an interesting observation from a very wise conservative sage.
8. A note to you disenchanted tea party activists
I'm getting a lot of emails from tea party members rather upset with members of Congress today.
The funniest story I've heard today from several people on the hill is that the House GOP held a budget "listening" session to learn how to message better for tea parties and independents. The House GOP leaders really thought that they had the policy right and just needed to work on the message - troubling in that this is exactly what the Democrats told themselves as they went down in flames in 2010.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

The Jewish Community of Hebron July 29, 2011
Re: Christians and Jews United for Israel
This has been festering in me for the past week or so. I couldn't decide whether to write it or not; I know it will bother some people. But I have to get it out - and probably post. Whoever is upset, well, that's their problem.
Last week I attended, for the second time, CUFI, that is, Christians United for Israel, in Washington, DC. My friend Mike, from Amarillo, Texas, invited me to join him, and I took him up on the offer. As it was two years ago, so too this year. An amazing experience.
Somewhere in the vicinity of 5,500 people, including a group of Jews, mostly orthodox, as well as a contingent from Israel, congregated at the Washington Convention Center for three days. People from all over the world. That's a lot of people. And a lot of money. The personal investment, paying for registration, hotels, food, for three days. Many of those attending are couples.
They come from all denominations of Christianity. In other circumstances, you would be hard-pressed to find all of them sitting together. Their beliefs and traditions differ, from person to person, from church to church, from institution to institution. This, not my invention, but as expressed (in my words) by Pastor John Hagee, founder and executive director of CUFI. However, they all have a nucleus binding then together, unifying them, and that, in one word, is Israel.
At an event as this, so much is impressive. The number of people, the speakers, (the best of the best, Christian and Jewish). But one emotion overshadows everything else, and that, in one word, is love.
I know there are many reading this, (and who will refuse to read it) who will be skeptical. Or perhaps suspicious is a better word. After all, in the eyes of many, all Christians are suspect. After 2,000 years of persecution and anti-Semitism, after holocaust following holocaust, (and in reality, there were many of them), while dealing with continued missionary activity, whereby Christian organizations attempt to steal Jewish souls, how can any of them be trusted?
I know, they believe things that I don't. Each sect has its own set of rules and beliefs. There are those who wear crosses and others who reject it. Some churches are full of pictures, icons and crucifixes. Others have bare walls, without any of the above. Just about all of them maintain a basic belief, one way or the other, in Jesus. Jews don't. Jews don't believe in any of the above. According to major Jewish scholars, over the centuries, for a Jew, this is idol worship, as is forbidden in the Torah. However, they also rule that for non-Jews, much of this is (according to Jewish law) acceptable. Our theologies are different; each to his own. Of course, what is unacceptable are attempts by other religions to try and 'convert Jews.'
So, the big question is, do these people have an agenda? I have friends who have repeatedly told me, 'we don't want you to act like Christians; we want you to act like Jews. That's who you are, that's who you should be.' Are there those who think we should believe like them? Probably. Why don't they do anything about it? I've heard it with my own two ears. Some say, 'that's not our problem. When he comes back, he'll deal with it.' Of course, they are talking about their belief in what they call the 'second coming.'
But so what! If that's what they want to believe, let them. (We know better.) But what they don't believe in is 'replacement theology,' that being a theory that G-d replaced the Jewish people with another. They believe, as is written in the Bible, that Jews are the apples of G-d's eye, and whoever blesses them will be blessed, and whoever curses them will be cursed. There is full belief in the Tanach - the Bible, as they call it, 'The Old Testament.' They believe it, (and many know it) with all their hearts. Pastor John Hagee repeated, as he is wont to do, a most remarkable phrase: "There's the Torah way, and there's the wrong way!" (Let's hear some more Jews say that!)
And their love for Israel, for the Jewish people, for the Land of Israel and the people of Israel, is overwhelming. I cannot say, 100% that there aren't any agendas amongst any of them; I cannot read people's hearts and minds. But the outpouring of love is much too much to be a superficial show, with all sorts of shadowy background schemes. It's real - it's genuine - it's authentic. And to be blind to it, in my humble opinion, is a huge error of judgement.
I have a wonderful picture together with a Pastor named Sam Whaley from Spindale, North Carolina. He, together with his wife Jane, and other family members, came to Washington with their entire congregation, several hundred people. They set up a Holocaust memorial and exhibit honoring Israel at the entrance to the conference hall. It included models of the 'Mishkan' - the Tabernacle built by Moses in the desert, and Beit HaMikdash, the Temple. As featured guest speaker Glenn Beck walked through the exhibit, he wept. So did many others.
Another remarkable facet of CUFI is involvement of youth. The organization offers 500 scholarships a year for students, who were also present at the conference. These kids work on college campuses around America, countering the huge Arab propaganda machine, making major efforts to speak for Israel. In my opinion, even though I'm sure this will be considered somewhat controversial in certain circles, Jewish campus organizations should work together with CUFI students. They have the same goals, and a unified effort would certainly have positive results.
The last day of the conference, the entire group, over 5,000 people, 'invaded' Capitol Hill, with representatives of 46 states visiting their congressmen and senators. There were three talking points, all dealing with American policy concerning the state of Israel, and the Iranian plans to develop nuclear weapons. CUFI executive director, David Brog, together with Pastor Hagee's wife Diana, made it very clear, speaking to the thousands that, despite other important issues on the table, the only subjects to be broached were Israel, US policy towards Israel, and Iran.
Left to right - Mike Isley, David HaIvri, Pastor Roman Asbill, Congressman Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, myself, Jeremy Gimpel, Ari Abramowitz Many people, seeing me there, a Jew with a 'Kippa' (Yarmulke) on, came over to talk to me. I also approached many people, introducing myself and speaking with them. That's the way it was, like a big family affair.
On the second day, during one of the sessions, I rose to ask a question. I introduced myself, citing my residence as Hebron, Israel. Within seconds thousands were on their feet, treating me to a standing ovation. It wasn't me, as David Wilder, rather as a Jewish person, from Hebron, in Israel, at their conference. It was quite amazing and extremely toucing.
CUFI is probably the largest pro-Israel lobby in the United States, if not in the world. They have over half a million 'likes' on their Facebook page, and I've been told they have over 700,000 'friends.' The statistics speak for themselves.
I thought to myself, and mentioned to some of my friends at the conference, how ironic that the most powerful Israel lobby group in the US is Christian. What would happen if we tried to form a similar Jewish organization, with only one goal - that being the good of the State of Israel. Could we get 5,500 people together for three days to speak about G-d's chosen people, their security, their future, in the holy land? Not a bad idea. JUFI - Jews United for Israel. When we had our own 700,000 people on Facebook we could combine, forming CJUFI - Christians and Jews United for Israel. (Dream on, my friends, dream on....)
With friends, David HaIvri (Samaria Regional Council), Tommy Waller (HaYovel), James Mucklestone
Until that happens, I can only offer my fervent thanks and blessings to the thousands, tens and hundreds of thousands of people, of whatever religion, who are standing up and being counted, working for Israel, in the name of G-d, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the one and only, G-d of Israel. May He bless all of us, Amen!

The Defense Ministry has invested more than NIS 75 million (roughly $22 million) in purchasing non-lethal weapons to disperse mass protests in preparation for possible September riots.
The Ministry is gearing up for possible riots in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and inside Israel following the Palestinian plan to seek UN membership. Defense Ministry Director-General Udi Shani ordered the allocation of funds from the ministry's budget as well as from foreign aid for the purchase of sophisticated crowd dispersal means. Last May the IDF lacked appropriate means to prevent the infiltration of Palestinians from Syria and Lebanon during the "Nakba" and "Naksa" day events forcing the troops to use live ammunition. The IDF was criticized for causing injury to non-armed individuals.

Laura: Big media has no qualms about boldly and repeatedly labeling the Norweigan shooter as a "Christian", even describing him as a Christian Zionist, despite no evidence that he was any kind of devout Christian whatsoever. Yet till this day the same vile liberal media will not refer to the Fort Hood jihadist as muslim or emphasize the islamic motivation behind the shooting. Neither does government reports on the jihad attack. Yet there was ample evidence that hasan was a devout muslim who massacred our soldiers in the name of islam. He shouted allahu akbar during the shooting spree, he gave out korans on the morning of the attack, he wrote "soldier of allah" on his business cards and he gave a lecture to other doctors that non-muslims should be beheaded, set on fire and have boiling oil poured down their throats. The same dynamic was at work with the Times Square jihad bomber. The media will mention that he's a Pakistani, but refuse to emphasize that... Read the whole entry » |

July 29, 2011 "Conscientious Objector" targeted soldiers On July 14th, we emailed you a column by retired Admiral James Lyons, in which Lyons criticized the Army's decision to grant conscientious objector status to a Muslim soldier who claimed he could not kill other Muslims. We maintained in that email that conscientious objector status has historically been granted only to those with a sincerely held belief that killing ANYONE, not those of a particular group, was wrong. We have since learned that this very soldier had made "radical" statements (reminiscent of the Ft. Hood jihadist), and yesterday he was arrested on suspicion of planning to kill fellow soldiers in a terrorism attack (see story below). Obviously, rather than being a conscientious objector he is another jihadist in the military. Thankfully, none of our soldiers were killed this time. Will the Army leadership now learn the lessons it didn't learn after the Ft. Hood massacre?
Fort Hood Suspect Mentions al Qaeda Cleric Believed to Have Inspired Previous Attack, Official Says Fort Hood Plot: AWOL Solider Arrested By RHONDA SCHWARTZ, PIERRE THOMAS (@PierreTABC) and MARTHA RADDATZ (@martharaddatz) July 28, 2011 http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/fort-hood-plot-awol-us-serviceman-arrested/story?id=14179096 A U.S. serviceman is in custody after he allegedly admitted he was planning an attack on his fellow servicemen at the U.S. Army base at Fort Hood, Texas, the same base where 13 people were killed in a 2009 terror attack. U.S. officials told ABC News an AWOL soldier, identified by the FBI as a Private First Class Naser Jason Abdo, was arrested Wednesday after making a purchase at Guns Galore in Killeen, Texas, the same ammunition store where Maj. Nidal Hasan purchased the weapons he allegedly used to gun down 13 people and wound 32 others on Nov. 5, 2009. According to one senior official, Abdo has also mentioned the name of high profile al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki -- the same man investigators said inspired the previous Fort Hood attack along with other potentially deadly terror plots in the U.S. -- though no direct link between Abdo and Awlaki has been found. Abdo, 21, allegedly told law enforcement he wanted to "get even" and was targeting Ft. Hood because of the previous attack there, according to law enforcement documents obtained by ABC News. The documents say he did not plan to attack the base itself, but instead planned to plant two bombs at a nearby restaurant popular with Ft. Hood personnel. Read more: |

The Debt-Ceiling Divide
We're only at the midpoint of the battle to change the ideological course of the country.
We're in the midst of a great four-year national debate on the size and reach of government, the future of the welfare state, indeed, the nature of the social contract between citizen and state. The distinctive visions of the two parties - social-democratic versus limited-government - have underlain every debate on every issue since Barack Obama's inauguration: the stimulus, the auto bailouts, health-care reform, financial regulation, deficit spending. Everything. The debt ceiling is but the latest focus of this fundamental divide.
The sausage-making may be unsightly, but the problem is not that Washington is broken, that ridiculous, ubiquitous cliché. The problem is that these two visions are in competition, and the definitive popular verdict has not yet been rendered.
We're only at the midpoint. Obama won a great victory in 2008 that he took as a mandate to transform America toward European-style social democracy. The subsequent counterrevolution delivered to that project a staggering rebuke in November 2010. Under our incremental system, however, a rebuke delivered is not a mandate conferred. That awaits definitive resolution, the rubber match of November 2012.

With America's attention fixated on what's happening in Washington concerning the debt crisis, I wanted to make sure you knew that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released the results of its one-time, limited audit of the Federal Reserve System. The revelations are sickening - so-called "money" tossed around like confetti to banksters, foreign banks, and favored corporations. Before I go into detail about their findings, let me first thank you for all your efforts in support of a thorough audit of our nation's central bank. This isn't the full audit Ron Paul and Campaign for Liberty continue to push, but it is a first peek behind Ben Bernanke's curtain of secrecy. This audit only happened because of our historic grassroots Audit the Fed movement. Of course, Audit the Fed was always about achieving a complete, thorough audit. Audit the Fed was stymied at the last minute in the Senate last year, but the limited, one-time audit our efforts guaranteed has revealed a number of reasons for why we must not give up on a full audit. Sixteen Trillion reasons, actually. We have now learned that the Federal Reserve lent $16 trillion to both domestic and overseas financial institutions during the height of the financial crisis! Let me rephrase that while the number sinks in - $16,000,000,000,000. In less than three years. From Dec. 1, 2007 - July 21, 2010, the Federal Reserve "created reserves in the banking system" (Bernanke slang for printing money) that exceeded not only the entire U.S. GDP for a year, but also the entire U.S. national debt that's accumulated over the past 224 years! More than $3 trillion dollars were lent to overseas financial institutions in numerous countries, including in the U.K., Germany, and France. In addition, we learned just how much the big banks who contributed heavily to the crisis were rewarded - including nearly $8 trillion to banks like Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Merill Lynch, and Bank of America. In February 2009, Campaign for Liberty made Audit the Fed our top legislative priority for the 111th Congress. At the time, most Americans didn't even know what the Federal Reserve was. But thanks to an unprecedented level of grassroots pressure generated by C4L members like you across the country, we were able to pry open just a portion of the Fed's books for the first time in history! And we gained the support of over 70% of the American people for Audit the Fed. Now, the case has never been clearer for why a complete audit is needed, and our resolve to achieve our goal has never been stronger. That's why Campaign for Liberty is planning to turn on the pressure for Audit the Fed like never before. We will especially focus our efforts on the U.S. Senate, where only 7 legislators have cosponsored Senator Rand Paul's S. 202. But to carry out this program, and alert millions of more Americans to our fight, we need your help. First, if you haven't yet done so, please sign the petition at AudittheFed.com right away. Then, please send it to your family and friends so they can learn more about this key issue. Second, while your representative and senators are back home on their August recess, schedule a meeting or stop in at a town hall and make sure to urge them respectfully to cosponsor the Audit the Fed bills, H.R. 459 and S. 202, if they have not already cosponsored. If they have signed on, urge them to do everything in their power to achieve a standalone, up or down roll call vote in their chamber of Congress. Third, I hope you can chip in $10 or $20 to help C4L increase the support for Audit the Fed even further and see it turned into law. We're up against one of the most secretive, powerful institutions in Washington, which can create money out of thin air to finance its operations. Ben Bernanke, Barack Obama, and their bankster allies seem determined to never again let Americans know what the Fed does. Well, it's up to you and me to blow a hole in their secret projects and let loose the outrage of Americans feeling the pinch of out-of-control spending, skyrocketing gas prices, and an economy stuck in failure. C4L can only take as much action as your continued support allows, and we thank you for all you have helped us accomplish so far. This limited, one-time glimpse into the Fed's activities was only possible because of your tireless efforts. Now is the time to double down on the pressure. Campaign for Liberty will continue to use our nationwide grassroots network to educate millions of Americans about sound money and the need for transparency at our nation's secretive central bank. With your continued assistance, we will generate millions of petitions and phone calls to Congress pushing for the passage of Audit the Fed (officially "The Federal Reserve Transparency Act" in Congress), H.R. 459 and S. 202. In Liberty, Timothy Shoemaker Director of Legislation P.S. Now that we know that the Fed tossed around over $16 trillion in less than three years to favored banksters, insiders, and foreign institutions, it's time to double down on the pressure for a complete audit of our central bank. In addition to signing the petition at AudittheFed.com, I hope you will stop by your elected officials' local offices during their August recess to urge them to do all in their power to pass Audit the Fed. And if you're able to at this time, please chip in $10 or $20 so we can recruit more Americans to this fight for our economic future.

WATCH THIS!!! HALT Act To Restrict Obama's Executive Authority!!!
While Americans have been busy listening in on the debt crisis... there has been an Act introduced to Congress called the "HALT Act". This Act will do exactly what it states... HALT "the Obama administration from abusing its authority to grant a mass administrative amnesty to illegal immigrants." Basically, this act will remove/take away power that is normally given to the POTUS and his administration.
I'm glad to see that Congress is finally starting to wake up and see that we have a Marxist in the White House.
This video is lengthy... BUT this is the video that each patriot here on PAN has been waiting to hear in regards to Congress taking action against Obama.

FreedomWorks Opposes Revised Boehner Plan
As you may know, after Speaker of the House John Boehner revised his debt ceiling plan last week to gain the support of fiscal conservatives, we still opposed his deal. Why? Because the deal still fails to fundamentally change the way Washington spends. Anything less than that, FreedomWorks cannot and will not support. Cut, Cap, Balance is the only approach in the debt ceiling debate that is both good politics and good policy for those who want to fix Washington. Yet Republicans have continued to debate among themselves rather than force Harry Reid and Senate Democrats to offer a serious proposal. I wanted to let you know that we held the line in this debate because of how critical it is to the future of our nation. To find out more about our decision to oppose the Boehner plan, you can read the story at Fox News: Read More >>

The Freedom Agenda
When the rules to the game are broken, changing the players won't affect the result. You have to make the institutional changes; you have to change the broken rules. Washington is such a place. Right now our national debt is over $14.3 trillion and Congress is poised yet again to raise the debt ceiling. We've pushed hard for the institutional changes we believe are necessary in our Cut, Cap, Balance plan, which would cut the deficit immediately, cap future federal spending and pass a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA). It's how we believe you can save America from Washington. Out of the three planks, the BBA is clearly the most long-term reform to the culture of spending. Critics say passing one for the federal government would be unrealistic yet 49 states have already found the courage to enact their own version of the BBA. Senator Mike Lee, in his timely new book The Freedom Agenda: Why a Balanced Budget Amendment Is Necessary to Restore Constitutional Government, explains that it's finally time for our federal government to do the same. As a special gift to FreedomWorks members, you can receive your free chapter of The Freedom Agenda by clicking here. "It's no secret that the more money we give Washington, the more they spend," says Senator Lee. "The only way politicians will stop spending is if they are forced to." Read More >>

2012 Update
- Independent voters are abandoning President Obama according to the latest Pew Research Center poll. In May, Obama enjoyed a seven-point advantage with independents, but today those critical swing voters would back a generic Republican candidate in 2012 by a margin of 39%-to-31%. That represents a 15-point swing among independent voters in the past two months.
Take note: 30% of independent voters remain undecided. Obviously that sizeable bloc could tip the balance either way. That is why many conservative leaders believe it is essential that congressional Republicans avoid doing anything in the debt limit debate that could result in their getting blamed for the bad economy, which appears to be getting worse.
- Wednesday I took Texas Governor Rick Perry to task for his comment that he was "fine" with same-sex "marriage" in New York, even though he and the overwhelming majority of Texans oppose same-sex "marriage." The problem with Perry's "state's rights" argument is that the militant homosexual rights movement has no intention of allowing each state to define marriage for itself.
In fact, the attorney general of New York this week filed a lawsuit seeking to have the Defense of Marriage Act declared unconstitutional. If that happens, Texas will be forced to recognize the "gay marriages" performed in New York. So much for states' rights and the Tenth Amendment.
I'm pleased to report that Governor Perry clarified his remarks this week in an interview with my good friend Tony Perkins. During the interview, he made it clear he recognizes the threat that legalized same-sex "marriage" in New York poses to the traditional definition of marriage in Texas.
Moreover, Perry expressed his support for a federal marriage protection amendment, adding, "Indeed to not pass the federal marriage amendment would impinge on Texas, and other states not to have [same-sex] marriage forced upon us by these activist judges and special interest groups."
I am also pleased to report that a federal judge has dismissed the case brought by a fringe atheist group against Governor Perry's participation at an August 6th prayer event in Houston.
Take Two
The House of Representatives was scheduled to vote on a debt ceiling bill yesterday, but Speaker John Boehner was forced to delay the vote when it became clear that he did not have enough votes to pass his bill. The liberal media was quick to seize on this setback as evidence of conservative dysfunction and "the crumbling of John Boehner's speakership."
In order to attract additional support from conservative holdouts, Boehner added a provision requiring congressional passage of a balanced budget amendment in order for a second debt limit increase to be approved. This has reportedly secured the necessary level of GOP support to secure passage. A vote has been scheduled on Boehner's legislation later this evening.
After that, the debate moves to Harry Reid's Senate. Members of Congress have been advised that they will remain in session through the weekend. Stay tuned!
Your Feedback
Thank you, my friends, for the tremendous response to yesterday's message. Your feedback was overwhelmingly positive and supportive of our view that conservatives need to stand united and work toward our common goal - removing Obama and electing a conservative majority to the Senate in 2012. As Charles Krauthammer argues, then and only then can we hope to effectively govern the country. Here are some excerpts from his column today:
"We're in the midst of a great four-year national debate on the size and reach of government, the future of the welfare state, indeed, the nature of the social contract between citizen and state. ...The sausage-making may be unsightly, but the problem is not that Washington is broken... The problem is that these two visions are in competition, and the definitive popular verdict has not yet been rendered. "We're only at the midpoint. Obama won a great victory in 2008 that he took as a mandate to transform America toward European-style social democracy. The subsequent counterrevolution delivered to that project a staggering rebuke in November 2010. Under our incremental system, however, a rebuke delivered is not a mandate conferred. That awaits definitive resolution, the rubber match of November 2012. ... "But reversal ... is simply not achievable until conservatives receive a mandate to govern from the White House. ...And under our constitutional system, you cannot govern from one house alone. Today's resurgent conservatism, with its fidelity to constitutionalism, should be particularly attuned to this constraint, imposed as it is by a system of deliberately separated - and mutually limiting - powers. "Given this reality, trying to force the issue - turn a blocking minority into a governing authority - is not just counter-constitutional in spirit but self-destructive in practice. ... "Obama faces two massive problems - jobs and debt. ...Obama is desperate to share ownership of this failure. Economic dislocation from a debt-ceiling crisis nicely serves that purpose - if the Republicans play along. The perfect out: Those crazy Tea Partyers ruined the recovery! "Why would any conservative collaborate with that ploy? November 2012 constitutes the new conservatism's one chance to restructure government and change the ideological course of the country. Why risk forfeiting that outcome by offering to share ownership of Obama's wreckage?"

President Obama on why he voted against raising the debt ceiling as a Senator in 2006: "When you're a Senator, traditionally what's happened is this is always a lousy vote. Nobody likes to be tagged as having increased the debt limit for the United States by a trillion dollars. As President, you start realizing, 'you know what? We-- we can't play around with this stuff. This is the full faith in credit of the United States.' And so that was just a example of a new Senator, you know, making what is a political vote as opposed to doing what was important for the country."

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story linked to the wrong bill. Here is a link to the latest Boehner bill.
The Boehner bill under consideration reflects changes made after GOP leaders failed to assemble the necessary votes to pass it Thursday. This bill is the current legislative vehicle and may come to the House floor later Friday. As with the earlier version, it is subject to change if leadership so decides.
The following is a House version of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's bill.

The Foundation
"[W]ith respect to future debt; would it not be wise and just for that nation to declare in the constitution they are forming that neither the legislature, nor the nation itself can validly contract more debt, than they may pay within their own age." --Thomas Jefferson
Government & Politics
Congress Is Still Stuck in Neutral on Debt
Don' cry for me John Boehner
Five days and counting until the end of the world. At least that's what Democrats would have us believe with regard to the federal debt ceiling. "What we're trying to do is save the world from the Republican budget," declared House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). "We're trying to save life on this planet as we know it today." Well, Pelosi and her tax-and-spend ilk "succeeded" for one more day when the House postponed a vote on Speaker John Boehner's plan of spending cuts and debt-ceiling increase Thursday night. But it was because Boehner (R-OH) couldn't get enough Republicans to go along with his plan that it faltered. Even if the plan had passed the House, though, all 53 Senate Democrats had promised to torpedo it in favor of Majority Leader Harry Reid's plan.
Boehner's plan, revised Wednesday to improve its score with the Congressional Budget Office, included projected cuts of $917 billion over 10 years with no tax increases. Most Republicans got in line behind their leader, hoping to win the battle by offering something to the Senate after the upper chamber defeated Cut, Cap and Balance. Others concluded that the dollar amount stretched over too many years was woefully insufficient, and insisted on passage of a balanced budget amendment. We happen to think both sides are right.
Republicans control just one-half of one branch of the government, and they have to start somewhere. Yet $22 billion in cuts this year in exchange for $900 billion more in debt this year is a sorry deal. Trying to sell it by saying that the $900 billion increase is conditional on $917 billion in cuts is just Washington math. Even with the deal, the federal debt would rise several trillion over 10 years, meaning the ceiling would need to be raised many more times, including again in 2012.
Reid (D-NV) also has a plan to counter those "radical, right-wing, Tea Party extremists": Raise the ceiling by $2.4 trillion now, in exchange for cutting $2.2 trillion over a decade. That likely would avoid having to address the issue again before next year's presidential election, which President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats want to avoid at all costs. However, Reid's plan has more than its fair share of accounting gimmicks. For instance, half the "cuts" in his plan are the savings from ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. As columnist Charles Krauthammer quipped, "I'm told there's an extra $10 billion in here of savings from not invading Normandy a second time."
For his part, Obama has been remarkably silent this week following his speech Monday night, which offered nothing new -- just blame for everyone but him. Perhaps his advisers have concluded that we're all tired of hearing him read from the teleprompter.
Meanwhile, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Assistant Minority Leader Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) are floating a "14th Amendment solution," which they say would allow Obama to raise the debt ceiling unilaterally. Section 4 of the 14th Amendment reads, "The validity of the public debt of the United States ... shall not be questioned." Only a leftist using the "living constitution" could construe such language to mean that the president can unilaterally incur more debt, a power still left to Congress. Fortunately, even Obama acknowledges that using the 14th Amendment isn't "a winning argument."
Besides, even if the nation passes Aug. 2 without a deal, there will still be money to pay the interest on the debt and other vital obligations. We're pretty sure that, despite Nancy Pelosi's dire warnings to the contrary, "life on this planet as we know it today" will continue even without bureaucracies such as the EPA or HUD. The nation managed for two centuries without either one.
Finally, the White House is prodding the three major credit rating agencies to back the Reid plan. It's not just the debt ceiling that could cause a credit downgrade, however. Our long-term trajectory is not sustainable, which is likely why Obama long ago gave up on his demand for a "clean" increase in the debt ceiling -- meaning no spending cuts whatsoever.
What remains to be seen in the coming days is whether Congress can pass a deal -- any deal -- to address the issue, however timidly. Indeed, after being stymied Thursday night, the House turned to the urgent matter of re-naming post offices. The tragedy of it all is that real solutions and fidelity to the Constitution seem far beyond the grasp of so many of our elected representatives.
Give us a piece of your mind.
Essential Liberty
"The national debt-ceiling law should be judged by what it actually does, not by how good an idea it seems to be. The one thing that the national debt-ceiling has never done is to put a ceiling on the rising national debt. Time and time again, for years on end, the national debt-ceiling has been raised whenever the national debt gets near whatever the current ceiling might be. Regardless of what it is supposed to do, what the national debt-ceiling actually does is enable any administration to get all the political benefits of runaway spending for the benefit of their favorite constituencies -- and then invite the opposition party to share the blame, by either raising the national debt ceiling, or by voting for unpopular cutbacks in spending or increases in taxes." --economist Thomas Sowell
On Cross-Examination
In arguing the debt ceiling issue on the Senate floor, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) quoted a Wall Street Journal editorial -- specifically the part criticizing "tea-party Hobbits" for wanting too much. It was a reference to J.R.R. Tolkien's novel "The Lord of the Rings."
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) fired back, "I think in reading the books, the hobbits were the heroes. They overcame great obstacles, and I think I'd rather be a hobbit than a troll."
This Week's 'Alpha Jackass' Award
"To make matters worse, the recession meant that there was less money coming in, and it required us to spend even more." --Barack Obama in his prime time speech Monday
News From the Swamp: Democrats Love Reagan?
Among all the other shenanigans taking place in Washington, Democrats have now attempted to rewrite history and co-opt Ronald Reagan's legacy. In their fight to raise the debt ceiling, House Democrats released a television ad with selective clips of a 1982 Ronald Reagan radio address warning of the fiscal disaster that would come from a failure to raise the debt ceiling. Of course they neglected to mention that the 1983 ceiling was $3 trillion, a bit below the current $14.3 trillion. Democrats gleefully point out that Reagan agreed to raise taxes at the time. The tax hike rolled back some of Reagan's historic 1981 tax cut, and he regretted the decision for the rest of his presidency. Democrats reneged on their promise to cut $3 spent for every $1 raised, and instead used the tax revenue to increase spending. In other words, they lied. You won't see that in the ad, nor will you hear what Reagan said later in the same speech: "Every time Congress increases taxes, the deficit does not decrease, spending increases." Democrats would love history to repeat itself.
The debt has quintupled since the Reagan presidency, and since that time Democrats have constantly smeared his legacy. But now, even Obama quotes the former president in his attempt to push his ideological agenda of an all-encompassing federal government. We would rejoice if our friends on the Left had truly come to respect Reagan, but when such comments are weighed against the vitriolic words Obama has used against the GOP in recent weeks, it's more than apparent that Democrats are adulterating Reagan's record for their own political gain.
From the Left: Rep. Wu Will Resign, Just Not Soon Enough
Rep. David Wu (D-OR) resigned from office this week after being accused of unwanted sexual advances on the 18-year-old daughter of a longtime political contributor. The 56-year-old Wu refused private calls from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and New York Democrat Steve Israel to step down when the scandal broke, opting instead to not run for re-election in 2012. Pelosi ever-so-subtly called for an Ethics Committee investigation, and a few senior Democrats put pressure on Wu to quit. He finally relented, but he will remain in Congress long enough to vote on the debt ceiling before walking away with his $1 million pension.
Pelosi has had ample time to observe Wu's boorish behavior. During his 2008 re-election campaign Wu's staff complained of his bizarre antics, including cryptic phone calls and sending around a picture of himself in a full-length tiger costume. In fact, Wu's congressional career, which began in 1999, is littered with erratic behavior and sexually aggressive incidents with women, some of it under Pelosi's speakership when she famously railed against the Republicans' "culture of corruption" and promised to "drain the swamp." Adding to the American people's loathing for Congress, Wu is the fourth member of that body to resign during this session because of a sex scandal.
FAA Funding Fight
Last weekend, 4,000 non-essential Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees were told not to report to work when the agency's short-term funding extension ran out. The government lost $30 million in airline tax revenue -- leading to some happy travelers -- and over $2 billion in construction projects were shut down. Planes still operated as usual, with TSA screeners, air-traffic controllers, and safety inspectors all reporting for work.
Senate Democrats have refused to accept a short-term funding extension passed by the House in April that would provide money to the FAA for two months but would also end subsidies for small airports within 90 miles of a larger airport. The House Republican package also rolls back a Democrat gift to unions passed earlier this session that makes it easier for them to demand collective bargaining. The Senate approved the removal of subsidies in a long-term reauthorization bill in February, but three affected airports are in the home states of Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Transportation Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), and Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT), respectively. Those three refused to accept the resolution, but Republicans have remained firm. The FAA bill will have to wait until after the debt fight, and it serves as a timely example of the GOP's ability to remain united on principle.
National SecurityWarfront With Jihadistan: Ft. Hood Attack Thwarted, Little Rock Jihadi Gets LifeU.S. Army PFC Naser Jason Abdo was arrested this week for allegedly plotting an attack at Foot Hood, Texas -- the same fort attacked by Maj. Nidal Hasan, who murdered 14 people and wounded 32 others there in 2009. When Abdo was arrested, he was in possession of weapons, explosives and jihadist propaganda material, and he told law enforcement officials that he was at Fort Hood "seeking retaliation." Abdo applied "conscientious objector" status to avoid deployment and found a fan base among leftist anti-war groups. A review board recommended that he be separated from the Army, but discharge was delayed because of charges that he had child pornography on his government computer. He went AWOL from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on July 4. Naturally, many news outlets declined or waited until the end of the story to mention that Abdo is Muslim. Fewer still have reported that Abdo has mentioned the name of Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical Muslim cleric who inspired Hasan's murderous rampage. As we saw in Norway, all terrorist attacks are not perpetrated by Muslims, but it's certainly a reasonable generalization to make. Unless, that is, you're a Democrat member of Congress. At a hearing on radical Islam this week, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) said, "I would like to have a hearing on right-wing extremists, ideologues who advocate violence and advocate, in essence, the terrorizing of certain groups." No doubt that would be immensely productive. In related news, another murderous American traitor, Carlos Bledsoe, a.k.a. Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, who with clear malice aforethought and premeditation gunned down U.S. Army Private William Long and wounded another in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2009, received a plea-bargained punishment of life in prison. This self-identified jihadi admitted his crimes, including an attempted arson of a rabbi's home and yet another attempted murder at an Army Recruiting Center. Bledsoe avoided a death sentence, prompting one family member of the victims to observe that this murdering dog can now recruit fellow jihadis in prison for the rest of his life. We can only hope that prosecutors in the U.S. Army don't get cold feet when it comes time to punish accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. Treason and first-degree murder are appropriate charges, and death is the appropriate sentence for this traitorous jihadi. Anything less would be a travesty and would send a dangerous message just as it has with Bledsoe. Justice Delayed But Not Denied: Kerry Ally Stripped of Silver StarIn 1992, Capt. Wade Sanders was awarded the Silver Star for actions in Vietnam years earlier. In 2004, he introduced Democrat presidential nominee John Kerry at that year's convention and was a big supporter throughout the campaign. As we all know, a group of some 200 fellow Swift Boat veterans eventually helped sink Kerry's presidential campaign by blowing up the Vietnam "war hero" facade that the Massachusetts senator had meticulously and misleadingly put forth. Contrary to Kerry's boasting, he committed treason in Vietnam. Sanders was a lead attack dog for Kerry, and he worked to tarnish the Swifties' reputations, slandering them as "Nazi propagandists." In a case of poetic justice, the Navy recently stripped Sanders of his honor. The Navy's tersely worded statement indicated that "subsequently determined facts and evidence surrounding both the incident for which the award was made and the processing of the award itself" led to the revocation of his Silver Star. Sanders, by the way, is also serving 37 months for possession of child pornography, and we doubt that helped his case. He claimed it was research for a book he was writing. Kerry made quite the issue of his military record, using it as both a crutch and a stick throughout his campaign. How ironic that one of his lead witnesses was found to be so wanting in character. Kerry should hope the Navy doesn't come after him, too.
What do you think? Immigration Front: California DREAMin'Placing the welcome mat out still farther for illegal immigrants, earlier this week California Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill allowing California's "undocumented" population the same tuition rates as other state residents, provided they could prove they attended high school in the state for three years and promised to apply for legal immigration status as soon as they could do so. Once the law takes effect Jan. 1, California will join nearly a dozen states which have passed similar laws. One of those states, Maryland, has seen its recently passed version of the DREAM Act placed on hold thanks to a successful petition drive forcing the bill to referendum in November 2012. It's possible that California citizens could do the same. Meanwhile, on the federal level, Barack Obama was trying to placate Latino groups that expected their own "hope 'n' change" amnesty program when he took office. Speaking to the National Council of La Raza, a radical Latino rights organization, Obama bemoaned the fact that he had no "dance partner" in the amnesty effort and was simply upholding the law by deporting illegal immigrants. But La Raza regulars would have none of that, saying he could choose not to enforce the laws or create his own through executive power. At stake for him is the loyalty of a large and rapidly growing constituent group of possible 2012 voters -- particularly in those states which don't vigorously enforce voter ID laws. If aliens face the prospect of a voter identification law with teeth, they may stay home and Obama may lose his grip on power.
Business & EconomyEconomy Growth Nearly Non-ExistentThe Wall Street Journal reports, "The U.S. economy expanded at a slower pace than expected in the spring as consumers cut back on spending, while revisions showed the slowdown since the beginning of the year was much more drastic than previously thought. The Commerce Department Friday said gross domestic product rose at an annualized seasonally adjusted rate of 1.3% in April through June, while first-quarter growth was revised down sharply to a 0.4% rate from the earlier estimate of a 1.9% gain." Reuters added, "The economy grew less than expected in the second quarter as consumer spending barely rose amid higher gasoline prices, and growth braked sharply in the prior quarter, a government report showed on Friday." The Washington Post echoed, "The 1.3 percent pace of increase in the gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic activity, is far lower than many economists estimated." We just have one question: Why are all these "experts" always surprised by the lousy Obama recovery? Hope 'n Change: More Employers Axing Health Benefits"If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan," Barack Obama claimed in August 2009 while on the stump for his signature health care takeover. But in a trend that has gained momentum since the passage of ObamaCare, about one in eight employers are terminating their current health insurance plans, according to a study done on behalf of the National Federation of Independent Business, an advocacy group for the small business community. While most of that subset of businesses won't take away health benefits entirely, they are generally decreasing overall coverage and passing more costs to their employees. ObamaCare opponents warned that companies would eventually shift the burden to government rather than invest in the available private-sector plans as they became more expensive -- eventually the business of providing health insurance would become unprofitable due to a lack of customers and companies would drop out. In turn, that would leave government to pick up the pieces with a single-payer system -- as was surreptitiously planned all along. The same survey also found that small business owners believed ObamaCare would result in increased taxes and higher federal deficits, and -- what do you know! -- the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid released a 10-year forecast that confirms those suspicions. According to the forecast, total health care spending is projected to grow by 5.8 percent each year, while it would have grown by 5.7 percent without the law -- this despite Obama's incessant promises that his health care takeover would "bend the cost curve" down. Income Redistribution: Competing PhilosophiesAmidst all the mudslinging and political posturing over the debt ceiling, it's easy to forget what's really at stake. Take the tax issue, which, at its core, is about more than an Aug. 2 deadline or another trillion added to the deficit. It's a philosophical debate about the nature of government that goes to the heart of what it means to live in America (as opposed to, say, Europe or Soviet-era Russia). To GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, for example, America is a place where everyone has a responsibility to "pull the wagon." The federal government is (or should be) limited to the role envisioned by the Founders, and the only revenue it should collect is the amount it needs to provide for funding its enumerated powers. The source of this revenue should come from all who live under the umbrella of freedom that America provides, not simply those who make a certain amount of money. "We need to broaden the tax base," Bachmann has said, "so that everyone pays something, even if it's a dollar." To Barack Obama and his legions of "progressives," however, America is a very different place -- or it will be if he continues with his "fundamental transformation." In Obama Nation, tax revenue is a vehicle for siphoning money from the "wealthy" (a term that has been arbitrarily defined and redefined by the progressive elite) to finance the "empowerment" of the masses. Since his 2008 campaign, his philosophy has centered on wealth redistribution. Now, in the face of the debt ceiling crisis and a looming re-election campaign, he's trying to backtrack a bit. "This isn't about punishing wealth," Obama said recently, "it's about asking people who've benefitted the most over the last decade to share in the sacrifice." Yet even this statement speaks volumes. First of all, he doth protest too much. Second, his casual reference to people who've "benefitted" from the past decade makes it seem as though these people sat back and watched their bank accounts swell with money given to them by George W. Bush. The fact that most of these people worked extremely hard for their success, and that their success makes the employment of so many others possible, is apparently lost on the community organizer. It seems he would prefer to tax these people into poverty, and have the masses look to the government for salvation.
Culture & PolicyThe Other Tragedy in NorwayA tragedy occurred in Norway last weekend, and by now most are familiar with the published details. Anders Behring Breivik, a 32-year-old native of Norway, went on a shooting spree at a Norwegian island youth camp, killing 68 attendees. Before this, he set off a car bomb outside the office of Norway's prime minister, killing eight. Fortunately, a Norwegian SWAT team eventually wounded and captured the gunman. Unfortunately, however, the murders are not the only tragedy in this story. The other tragedy is how quickly the Leftmedia threw truth under the bus to ensure boilerplate media placard headlines -- Christians are bad, conservatives are bad, government is good, guns-not-people kill people. While many conservatives assumed early on that it was the work of a Muslim terrorist, when it turned out that the guy was an unhinged, anti-Muslim lunatic, they reported straight. But to hear the Leftmedia version of the massacre, a "Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections" was responsible for the worst violence in Norway since World War II. The only problem with their theory is that it's wholly unsubstantiated by any of the evidence. For instance, Breivik plagiarized heavily from "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski's "manifesto," liberally exchanging the words "multiculturalism" or "cultural Marxism" for "leftism." This is hardly the hallmark of a committed ideologue, Christian or otherwise. It's more like the work of someone too lazy to author an original 1,500-page document (the length of Breivik's tome, à la Kaczynski), but who nonetheless wants to be seen as committed to his cause. And what is that cause, exactly? One might guess it would be attacking Muslims, based on all the "Islamophobia" rhetoric flowing from The New York Times and its ilk, but that guess would be incorrect: Not one Muslim was targeted by Breivik. Moreover, Breivik's extremely loose definition of "Christian" is bizarre at best. Specifically, he identified himself in his rambling screed as a "cultural conservative Christian," a term he equated roughly with agnosticism -- that is, with the belief that we can't know if there is a "God" or not. That's anything but Christian. As to the "fundamentalist" swipe, this is yet another mainstream media pile-on, labeling a mass-murderer a "Christian," then throwing in that radioactive adjective for good measure. Naturally, the gun-control mafia was similarly spring-loaded to condemn guns everywhere. However, this argument totally misses the mark: Norway already has some of the toughest gun laws in the world. Had there been another gun somewhere at that island youth camp, Breivik would likely have been dropped well before he gunned down scores of unarmed innocents. As it was, police did not arrive until almost an hour after they received the call for help. In other words, when seconds counted, the police were many minutes away. Finally, we note that for all the deaths involved, the maximum sentence Mr. Breivik can receive under Norwegian law is 21 years, or a little less than three months per murder. Fortunately, the same sense of outrage that registers in the minds of most Americans when they hear these figures is also starting to register among a sizable number of Norwegians. If it brings back the death penalty in Norway, at least some good will have come from this horrible act. Tell us your thoughts. Climate Change This Week: More Phony ScienceLast week, we noted a study from the World Wildlife Fund that associated supposed increased drowning rates among polar bears having to swim farther as Arctic sea ice melts due to global warming. We asked skeptical questions about the study itself. Lo and behold, this week, federal wildlife biologist Charles Monnett is under investigation for unspecified "integrity issues" in his research on the subject. Monnett has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This doesn't disprove his theory, but it doesn't help the cause, either. In other news sure to cause warmists to sweat a bit, Forbes reports, "NASA satellite data from the years 2000 through 2011 show the Earth's atmosphere is allowing far more heat to be released into space than alarmist computer models have predicted, reports a new study in the peer-reviewed science journal Remote Sensing. The study indicates far less future global warming will occur than United Nations computer models have predicted and supports prior studies indicating increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed." The trouble with computer models is that they forecast what you tell them to forecast. And because climate change fanatics are trying to tilt the scales in their favor, it's garbage in, garbage out. Faith and Family: Atheists Attack WTC CrossIt seems unthinkable that anyone could whine that the cross-shaped rubble that rose from the ruins of the World Trade Center constitutes a breach of the over-wrought and badly misunderstood "separation of church and state." Well, the unthinkable is reality. American Atheists (sporting an unintentionally funny acronym -- AA), self-described as an "organization laboring for the civil liberties of atheists and the total, absolute separation of government and religion," filed a lawsuit in New York this week to prevent the display of the World Trade Center Cross at the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero. The cross, formed of two intersecting steel beams from the WTC, stood as a symbol of comfort to countless victims and rescuers in the days following the deadly terror attacks. American Atheists, however, claims that the cross "will just be a Christian icon, in the middle of OUR museum," and they're vowing the cross's inclusion "will not happen without a fight." According to the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), however, which is filing a friend-of-the-court brief in support of the cross, "[T]his memorial is not only a critical part of 9-11 history, but a constitutionally-sound reminder of the horrors that occurred at Ground Zero nearly a decade ago." Indeed, 9/11 Memorial president Joe Daniels says, the cross is "an important part of our commitment to bring back the authentic physical reminders that tell the history of 9/11 in a way nothing else could." As is the case with most atheist organizations, however, for American Atheists, anti-Christian radicalism trumps any sincere interest in historical accuracy.

Alex Trebek, the 71-year-old longtime host of the game show "Jeopardy!" suffered an unfortunate injury Tuesday. He snapped his Achilles tendon while chasing a 56-year-old woman who burgled his San Francisco hotel room. We certainly wish him well and a speedy recovery, but we could also hardly help having a bit of fun with the obvious puns from the news. As in, we'll take Crime-Fighting Game-Show Hosts for $200. Or under Unfortunate Mythology, Answer: Achilles. Question: Who is the Greek hero for which this pain in my foot is named? As for the perp, she'll be Headed to Jail for $500. Are Obama and George Soros Trying to Take Over Your Pulpit? By Ben Johnson
Barack Obama's White House meeting with members of the Christian organization Circle of Protection on Wednesday has been portrayed as a moment of spiritual solace in the midst of polemical upheaval, or the president's attempt to seek divine guidance on the stalled debt ceiling negotiations. The media describe the 12 attendees as selfless advocates for the poor and downtrodden. In reality, its organizers admit their goal is "to link our pulpits with the bully pulpit" and "produce the grassroots response" to preserve big government spending. The undertaking is consciously designed to see thousands of pastors repeat the president's talking points in their churches and have their faithful "contact their congressmen." Its proponents include George Soros grant recipients, a former left-wing congresswoman who has worked with the Nation of Islam, and a pastor accused of lying to a poor parishioner to get his hands on her last $7,000 before his church declared bankruptcy....

Hillary Fights Hard to Keep Taxpayers Funding Foreign Abortion, Pakistan, and Cuba By Ben Johnson, The White House Watch
|
In these times of crushing debt loads, families are cutting back and prioritizing every dollar they spend. Yet the Obama administration is lashing out in a public way against efforts by House Republicans to rein in spending on overseas abortions and foreign aid to corrupt anti-American regimes. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is aggressively lobbying Congress to drop several amendments to the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, which she claims would be "debilitating" to her foreign policy. Madam Secretary vowed to "recommend personally" that Obama veto the bill in a letter to Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-FL. At the top of Hillary's list is the bill's provision to ban U.S. taxpayers from funding foreign organizations that perform or promote abortion overseas. Otherwise known as the Mexico City Policy, which Ronald Reagan instituted in 1984, public financing of foreign abortions has....

Legal Experts: Obama Social Security Hysteria is a Lie By Ben Johnson, The White House Watch
|
The scare and intimidation tactics the president has employed during the debt ceiling debate have grown so outrageous that two experts on the Social Security system are imploring Barack Obama, "Mr. President, please stop needlessly scaring the millions who rely on Social Security benefits." Obama warned in his nationally televised speech on Monday night that if Congress does not vote to raise the debt ceiling by August 2, "we would not have enough money to pay all of our bills -- bills that include monthly Social Security checks, veterans' benefits, and the government contracts we've signed with thousands of businesses. " Social Security historian Nancy Altman and Pepperine Law School professor Mark Scarberry have noted that, in fact, no such threat exists. They write....

2012 Could Be Another GOP Blowout By Matt Mackowiak, FloydReports.com
|
The debt ceiling fight currently being waged in Washington will have a major impact on the 2012 elections, because it's presenting a clear contrast between the Republican and Democratic parties - something that rarely happens. Republicans have skillfully used this moment to push fundamental budget reform uphill. The forces of the status quo, who have gotten fat and happy from federal spending levels of 24 percent of gross domestic product, are violently resisting the overspending straitjacket that the Cut, Cap, Balance plan represents. It would be very easy for Republicans to wash their hands of a president who is biologically incapable of leading. If a speech or a lecture were necessary, he would be the most qualified person in the world for....

House Democrats, Media are Pressing Obama Toward Impeachment By Ben Johnson, The White House Watch

Historians agree empires and presidencies die from imperial overreach. Now Barack Obama's closest allies in the Democratic Party, the far-Left, and the media are encouraging him to take actions that will lead inexorably to his impeachment. The president's hubris and lawlessness seem destined to collide with Washington's tense polemical atmosphere in a showdown that will put his presidency on the chopping block. The leaders of the House Democratic Caucus this week urged the president to usurp Congressional authority and order the government to continue borrowing money, (mis)using the 14th Amendment. Caucus Chairman John Larson of Connecticut....

Forget Amnesty -- What About Unemployed Americans? By Joe Guzzardi, FloydReports.com

When it comes to what Democrats call comprehensive immigration reform, Senator Chuck Schumer lives in his own little world. Schumer, obsessed with passing an immigration bill that would grant amnesty to more than 10 million illegal aliens, has a new wrinkle he hopes will fool an American public that has for more than a decade rejected rewarding law breakers. According to Schumer, immigration creates jobs. He recently stated....

Frightener-in-Chief By Michael Oberndorf, FloydReports.com

The mind boggles. In March 2006, the liar-in-chief was a do-nothing Senator from Illinois who said this:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better." (Congressional Record, p. S2237 [March 2006])
His tune now is that without raising the debt limit to heights hitherto inconceivable, old people will die, children will die, Thumper and Bambi will die, the entire planet will die. And this incompetent, knee-jerk Marxist fool thinks no one will notice his complete, unabashed reversal. The country is literally on the brink of....

Obama's Higher Fuel Efficiency Standards Will Cause More Deaths By The Washington Examiner
|
Much as President Obama and other liberals may think natural laws for things like physics and economics don't matter, the reality is they do and nowhere more so than on American highways. The president reportedly has secured agreements from Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, Honda and Hyundai to raise the Corporate Average Fuel Economy fleet average standard to 54.5 mpg by 2025. The new standard will be reviewed in 2018, but that won't change the fact that automakers will immediately have to embark on efforts to lighten and downsize all of their models. Those that can't be made sufficiently small to reach the required fleet average will go the way of the Model T. It is inescapable that more weight means lower fuel economy, so heavier vehicles will have to go. So prepare to say goodbye to....

Is Obama Willing to Cut Anything? By Dr. Mark W. Hendrickson, FloydReports.com

Some have called August 2 "Financial D-Day." That is the date, according to Treasury Secretary Geithner, by which either Congress raises the debt ceiling or some government disbursements will cease. Multiple proposals have been floated for budgetary reforms to be made in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. A partial list includes: Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-WI) plan to add $4.4 trillion less to the national debt than current trends project; the GOP "Cut, Cap, and Balance" plan, which aims for $6 trillion of future spending cuts; and the so-called "Gang of Six" Plan that proposes $3.7 trillion less debt than now projected. Whatever compromise is eventually adopted, you should be aware that the national debt will continue to grow and that the vast majority of promised spending cuts will be scheduled for after the next election, when those promises can easily be forgotten....

Common Sense Shows Guns Don't Kill People, Blacks Do!
Jul 29, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Doug Book, staff writer
Because the Regime's "Fast and Furious" scheme to manufacture a national hue and cry for more restrictive gun control legislation failed in such a spectacular way, the left has reverted to the fraudulent mantra so often used to separate the American people from their God given and 2nd Amendment guaranteed rights...the need for "common sense" gun legislation.
The right to own a firearm, "...is subject to common sense regulation just like most of our rights are subject to common sense regulation" said candidate Obama in 2008. (1)
"The City of Chicago has gun laws, so does Washington, DC", he continued. "The notion that somehow local jurisdictions can't initiate gun safety laws to deal with gangbangers and random shootings on the street isn't borne out by our Constitution."
That the Supreme Court later ruled the famed Constitutional Law professor's "common sense" claims fundamentally wrong on so many levels is a testament ... Continue Reading:Common Sense Shows Guns Don't Kill People, Blacks Do!

Bill O'Reilly on the TEA Party, Ted Baxter wrong again

Through the years, we've been told by the mainstream media that Bill O'Reilly, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, and others represented the conservative point of view. For a long while, I bought that notion. Now that I'm relatively awake and actually paying attention, I don't think ANY of them are conservatives!
O'Reilly's positions baffle me. His assumption that a failure to raise the debt ceiling would result in a catastrophic downgrade of America's triple A bond rating is an absolute joke. Failure to raise the debt ceiling does not equate to failure to pay debt obligations. How can O'Reilly not recognize this simple fact?
What it DOES mean is that Congress would be forced to live within its means. If raising the debt ceiling would actually improve our credit rating, then why do we have a ceiling in the first place? Eliminate it and spend away! Congress has proven over the decades ... Continue Reading:Bill O'Reilly on the TEA Party, Ted Baxter wrong again

How Could We Live Without the New York Times?
Jul 31, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Doug Book, staff writer
The murders of nearly a hundred Norwegians last week were a dream come true for Pinch Sulzberger and his left-wing minions at the New York Times. Not the deaths themselves, of course. Rather the fact that, at long last, a terror attack had been committed by someone other than a Muslim or member of the far left.
Of course Times "journalists" immediately embraced the notion that Anders Breivik was a "...right-wing, fundamentalist Christian...gun-lov[er]...obsessed with...the threats of multiculturalism and Muslim immigration."
After all, a few months earlier, the Paper of Record had hoped to transform Jared Lochner into a Limbaugh-inspired member of the Reagan revolution, but had to swallow hard when that narrative didn't hold water.
Descriptions of Lochner by friends as "very liberal", a "pothead" and "left wing", coupled with the fact that he is proud 9/11 "truther" who nonchalantly killed very conservative Federal judge John Roll, forced even the ... Continue Reading:How Could We Live Without the New York Times?

Obama's weakness has emboldened China to violate Taiwan's airspace for first time since 1999
Jul 30, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Jim Emerson, staff writer
China has been demanding the U.S. halt all reconnaissance flights over international waters near its boarder. China's Defense Ministry told the Global Times newspaper "We demand that the U.S. respect China's sovereignty and security interests, and take concrete measures to boost a healthy and stable development of military relations." The only problem is that the US surveillance flights have been operating outside of China's sovereign territory.
Tensions have increased after a pair of Chinese fighters attempted to intercept and American U-2 flying over the Taiwan Strait which is the waterway separating Taiwan from Mainland China. The U-2 was over international waters and not in China's airspace. In an effort to halt future surveillance flights China scrambled two Su-27s to intercept the unarmed reconnaissance aircraft. During the intercept one of the Su-27s violated Taiwan's airspace.
In ground controlled intercepts, as used by most oppressive regimes, the fighters wouldn't be allowed to ... Continue Reading:Obama's weakness has emboldened China to violate Taiwan's airspace for first time since 1999

A balanced budget bill passed by Democrats, Jimmy Carter is already on the books: PL 95-435, 1978 Jul 29, 2011 03:19 pm | Coach Collins By Kevin "Coach" Collins Matt Bruce a sharp eyed talk show host based in Tampa has made a discovery that turns the debate over a Balanced Budget Amendment on its ear. His research has developed the fact that regardless of all of the chatter coming from Washington, both Republicans and Democrats are overlooking the specific and clear language of a bill passed on October 10, 1978. During a time when it was hard for all but the most optimistic among us to even imagine a day when Republicans would again control the House, Representative Stephen L. Neal, a North Carolina Democrat, was the one and only sponsor of HR 9214, "A bill to amend the Bretton Woods Agreement Act to authorize the United States to participate in the Supplementary Financing Facility of the International Monetary Fund." Its Senate companion bill S.2152 had just one sponsor Democrat Senator John Sparkman of Alabama. The Bretton Woods agreement ... Meet Daryl Metcalfe, the gun-toting, gay-bashing, tea-partying state rep who's taking over Harrisburg.
By Daniel Denvir
State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, a gun-toting 48-year-old who represents Pittsburgh's fast-growing, far-out Butler County exurbs, has spent more than a decade slogging his way toward power. For years, he was a nobody in Harrisburg, and the media paid far more attention to his strong-worded comments about gays, guns and immigrants than his colleagues ever did to his legislation. But in the wake of President Barack Obama's election, things changed: A national movement of angry conservatives took hold and voted out any Republicans or Democrats who smelled of moderation.

Economy Grew Only 1.3% in Spring After Nearly Stalling in Winter
The U.S. economy grew less than forecast in the second quarter, after almost coming to a halt at the start of the year, as consumers retrenched.
Gross domestic product rose at a 1.3 percent annual rate following a 0.4 percent gain in the prior quarter that was less than previously estimated, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News called for a 1.8 percent increase. Household purchases, about 70 percent of the economy, climbed 0.1 percent.
Slower job and income gains raise the risk that a pickup in purchases during the remainder of 2011 will fail to materialize. The faltering economy will probably complicate the debt-ceiling negotiations in Congress and is one reason why Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke has said policy makers need to keep all options open.

More than a Dozen Cosponsor Chairman Smith's Mandatory E-Verify Bill
|
The support for Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith's E-Verify bill exploded this week with the addition of 14 new cosponsors, including its first Democrat with the cosponsorship from Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina.
The new cosponsors include some of the most tenured Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Reps. Cliff Stearns and Bill Young of Florida, Frank Wolf of Virginia, Hal Rogers of Kentucky, Rodney Frelinghuysen of New Jersey, Ralph Hall and Kay Granger of Texas, and Peter King of New York.
The list of official backers of Chairman Smith's bill is now at 58!
We also had two Members of the Freshman Class-- Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama and Rep. Dennis Ross of Florida -- join our prestigious 5-for-5 Club. To join the 5-for-5 Club, Members must cosponsor at least one bill in each category of our "5 Great Immigration Solutions". Reps. Brooks and Ross have cosponsored at least one bill that would require national E-Verify, end Chain Migration, end the Visa Lottery, end Birthright Citizenship, and help increase local enforcement.
Most of you have a Representative who isn't close to being as helpful. Please continue to urge your Members of Congress to cosponsor immigration-reduction legislation. You'll find faxes on your Action Board asking them to cosponsor all of our bills listed on our "5 Great Solutions" grid, and you'll also find thank you faxes if they've already cosponsored a bill.

Aug 1st to August 31st
Did you see that Diane Sawyer has a special report coming up this week? They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family's home that were not made in the USA. There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they are going to show truckloads of items - USA made - being brought in to replace everything and will be talking about how to find these items and the difference in price etc. It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs! I WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WALMART and ON THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID 'FROM CHINA.' FOR EXAMPLE, THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN 'FROM CHINA.' I WAS SHOCKED, SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS, I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE, SINCE IT'S FROM CALIF. Are we Americans as dumb as we appear-- or-- is it that we just do not think while the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets? 70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended. Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA!! Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without. Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example. The point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own. THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor . . . fast!! That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they might have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it. Remember, Aug 1 to August 31st !!!!!! START NOW. Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.
If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET! Pass it on, America . And instead of doing it for just 1 month, why not try to do it all the time.

African-American Middle Class Eroding As Unemployment Rate Soars
By John Roberts
Published July 28, 2011
| FoxNews.com
The unemployment situation across America is bad, no doubt. But for African-Americans in some cities, this is not the great recession. It's the Great Depression.
Take Charlotte, N.C., for example. It is a jewel of the "new South." The largest financial center outside of New York City, it's the showcase for next year's Democratic National Convention. It was a land of hope and opportunity for many blacks with a four-year college degree or higher.
According to an analysis by the Economic Policy Institute, in Charlotte, N.C., the unemployment rate for African-Americans is 19.2 percent. If you add in people who have given up looking for jobs, that number exceeds 20 percent, which, according to economists Algernon Austin and William Darity, has effectively mired blacks in a depression.

Labor Unions, GE, and the Job Czar By Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh CanadaFreePress.com
In a free market economy, no single wage level applies to all workers. In general, wage differentials are determined by the fact that we have many labor markets, each with its own supply and demand and equilibrium wage. Each worker in a specific labor market has certain ability and expends a degree of effort commensurate with their ability and work ethic. Other factors of production make American workers more productive because they have generous supplies of machinery, natural resources, and technical expertise. Therefore, they earn higher wages. Some workers have a superior education, training, and experience.

Default on US Debt Is Obama's Choice By Richard Rahn NewsMax.com

Voters asked to stop sexual indoctrination of children
550,000 signatures needed to force statewide vote on new lawPosted: July 30, 2011 12:50 am Eastern
By Bob Unruh © 2011 WND
A team of family organizations and advocacy groups is beginning to collect signatures for a proposed California voter referendum to overturn the state's new law requiring schools to teach 'gay' history.
SB48, signed recently by Gov. Jerry Brown, would require public schools to teach students to look up to homosexuals, lesbians, transgenders, and others who have chosen alternative sexual lifestyles, as role models.
According to the group hoping to force a statewide vote, the law, authored by an openly homosexual lawmaker and approved by majority Democrats, "forces schools to review and replace their curriculum when this money should be used for other purposes." Hoyer endorses 14th amendment option as last resort solution
Hoyer starting to push this option
President Obama should invoke the 14th Amendment to hike the debt ceiling unilaterally as a last resort to prevent a government default, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Thursday. "It's arguably his power to do so," Hoyer told MSNBC.
