Quote:

"Compromise, hell! That's what has happened to us all down the line - and that's the very cause of our woes. If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?"

~ Senator Jesse Helms

QUOTE OF THE DECADE

Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them.

This quote came from the Czech Republic .   Someone over there has it figured out, we have a lot of work to do.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency.   It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.   Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama.   It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

Patriots,

The Pa legislature is going to have its first hearing ever on a Right to Work package of legislation (House Bills 50-53). It will be held on Tuesday, August 16 from 1-4 p.m. in room 205 of the Ryan Office Building. There is no doubt that the unions will be out in force to try to intimidate members of the Labor committee. If you can get out to the hearing that would be great, please let as many people know about it as possible so members know that the grassroots support Right to Work.

The Absolution I Cannot Give

From RedState Morniing Briefing

Posted by Erick Erickson | Monday, July 25th

For thirty years and seventeen debt commissions we have raised the national debt $13 trillion, seen taxes rise and fall and rise again, uncertainty come and go, and Washington remain unchanged. And now some of you want to seek cover by having yet another commission - but this time it will be different! Sure.

You went to Washington to change Washington. You went to Washington because you said it was broken and you worried about the future for your children and grandchildren.

And now, at the moment of crisis you are worried and second guessing yourself and looking for alternatives, ways out, and most of all a clear conscience. Cut, Cap, and Balance is the only plan that can save our credit rating and our financial integrity. I can offer you nothing else, nor should you waver from fighting for it alone. You should, however tired you may be of hearing me say it, hold the line.

But what you think will give you a clear conscience - the alternative you seek - is what has been done before. You punt. You kick the can down the road. You take the chimera and convince yourself it is real and you have done good.

It is your choice to take, not mine.

I give you no absolution. It is not even mine to give. I'm not a proxy for your children and grandchildren. It is their lives and their future you will affect.

A generation before you, men and women went to Washington saying they were going to turn the tide, stop the out of control spending, and stop the growth of Washington into our lives. They were going to do it for their children and grandchildren.

Now you sit where they sat. Now you do what they did.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

Press Release:

AFDI/SIOA 9/11 Freedom Rally:

Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America

NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.

Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."

AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.

The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.

Other speakers include former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton (video message); the courageous ex-Muslim human rights activist Wafa Sultan; war hero and North Carolina Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano; former prosecutor and bestselling author Andrew C. McCarthy; popular radio host Joyce Kaufman; Darla Dawald, National Director of the Patriot Action Network; James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST); Coptic Christian activist Joseph Nassralla; Iraqi ex-Muslim Paul Gaynos.

Hosting the rally are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.

Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York. Cordoba Initiative board member imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an open proponent of Sharia, Islamic law, a system that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. Given the thousands of triumphal mosques that have been built on the cherished sites of conquered peoples throughout Islamic history, the mosque leaders' claim that this mosque would be understood differently by Muslims worldwide lack foundation.

The Durban III conference follows upon two previous conferences that scapegoated and demonized the state of Israel in service of Islamic jihad and Islamic supremacist interests. The rally will defend Israel against the defamation to which it will be subjected at this conference. It will also call upon the city to remove roadblocks to the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed on 9/11 and since then mired in bureaucratic red tape that has prevented its rebuilding - in stark contrast to the help Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials have given to the Ground Zero Mosque project.

AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

Restoring Courage - Jerusalem 2011

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government.  We have talked to all the power brokers.  The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God.  It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.

"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand.  I ask you to join me.  I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth.  If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution.  This is a people of faith solution.  This is a people all over the world solution.  I ask you to help get this word out."

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For July 26, 2011

1. They Just Aren't Serious

Senator Helms once said, "Compromise, hell! That's what has happened to us all down the line - and that's the very cause of our woes. If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?"

The Democrats and Republicans in Washington may be trying to compromise, but they just aren't that serious. They really aren't. And now a bunch of House Republicans are going wobbly, backing down from holding the line, and willing to take John Boehner's plan - a compromise wherein they are compromising only with themselves.

According to Forbes, a ratings downgrade would be worse than a technical default. Unfortunately, sources who have spoken to Standards & Poor tell CNN's Erin Burnett that John Boehner's plan - the one Allen West and others are lining up to support - would cause the U.S. to lose its AAA credit rating.

Why? No, ti has nothing to do with John Boehner embracing the McConnell idea of letting the President raise the debt ceiling without congressional approval and then letting Congress vote to "disapprove". But it does that too.

2. The Absolution I Cannot Give

3. The History of Deficit Commissions 1982-2011

Apparently, the Republicans in Congress need a brief remedial lesson in the history of debt ceilings in this country over the last thirty years.

4. Again, No Compromise.

I have grown weary of hearing the calls for bi-partisanship. The calls for "reaching across the aisle" and "bucking your party." And yes, I'm even tired of that sacred word that hushes the most stubborn of partisans: Compromise. Compromise in terms of leadership or lack thereof. Compromise with ulterior motives and double-speak. Compromise that hurts our country, indeed our world.

To some this is counter-intuitive and in stark contrast to the common wisdom put forth by much of the media. But the truth is, moderation & compromise have a dark and sordid past when it comes to governing nations. It gave us "The Great Society," which ensured generations of poor on welfare and the end of the need for a father. It gave us the "New Deal" & Medicare, which are quickly bankrupting our country. It gave us the Munich Pact and the Gaza Strip. It empowered North Korea to acquire nuclear weapons and is on a steady path to do the same with Iran.

Some would say it gave us the Constitution and the Emancipation Proclamation, but that is only partially correct. In order for the founders to compromise with one another they had first to establish that they were immovable in their stance against King George. For him there would be no compromise.

In order for Lincoln to bring the States back into Union, he had to stand his ground firmly and go to war with his own countrymen rather than "negotiate" or be "bi-partisan."

5. In Defense of Nick Ayers

I've got to take issue with this post by Matt Lewis going after Nick Ayers. It makes Ayers out to be some sort of arrogant jerk who gets handed things on a silver platter - not to mention being blessed with a lot of luck.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
  • provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

  • Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
  • If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
  • And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

The Oslo Factor: Blame Free Speech

Edward Cline

The horrific attack in Oslo, Norway last Friday has produced an "Islamophobic" fall-guy, made to order for the part.

Fellow patriots,

Rarely have I seen such a clear-eyed view of our President come from a mainstream news source: Forbes Magazine.  While Forbes has always been a strong advocate for Free Enterprise, it has never been accused of being far-right.  In fact, former publisher Malcolm Forbes was a bit of an All-American celebrity, flying around the world in a balloon emblazoned with the words, "Capitolist Tool" in whatever language was appropriate ( http://www.amazon.com/Around-World-Hot-Air-Wheels/dp/0671600311  http://www.nationalballoonmuseum.com/HallofFame/MalcolmStevensonForbes.aspx ) and helping win the Cold War in his own ebullient way.

While this article doesn't come straight out and call the President an Islamist, it presents numerous cases of him taking actions that can be explained in no other way, and then explains them as Obama being an "anti-imperialist."  It also explains that imperialism and neo-colonialism are the false and propagandistic labels that anti-Americans use to turn the success of America's principles of unalienable human rights, democracy, and free enterprise into something evil.  What the article doesn't say is that anti-imperialism/anti-colonialism is one of the cornerstones of Islamism.  It is the veil that Islamists put on when they want to gain allies among the world's socialists, communists, and anarchists to oppose the United States.

Another point I will add, which the author also didn't dare say, is that Obama's anti-imperialism has a decidedly Islamist flavor.  His focus has not been on Nicaragua, Honduras, Argentina, Guatemala, South Sudan, or any other non-Islamic nation with complaints about imperialism or neo-colonialism.  It has been exclusively with regard to the Islamic world, either directly, through hugely publicized events like his 2009 Cairo speech, his "unclenched hand" reaching out to Iran, and his new mission for NASA, or indirectly, by weakening the United States with regard to domestic energy production, business vitality, and advanced science/technology.

Given the length of this article, I highlighted the key points for those who are in a hurry, and bulleted them below for people who are really in a hurry.  These are its key points:

  • Obama is not a socialist, although many of his themes coincide with a socialist agenda.
  • Obama has stymied off-shore oil drilling in the American Gulf of Mexico while facilitating it in Brazil
  • Obama has used a false-dilemma argument to support the Ground Zero mosque, falsely implying that religious freedom would be jeopardized if the mosque was prevented from being built in that specific location.
  • Obama supported the release of the Lockerbie Bomber on "humanitarian grounds."  Instead of succumbing to the cancer used to justify his release, the bomber has lived for years as a celebrated free man in Libya.
  • NASA Chief Charles Bolden announced that Obama's foremost mission for him was "Hewanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science ... and math and engineering."  Since then, NASA has been allowed to atrophy, terminating the Space Shuttle program with no clear mission for the future.
  • Obama is a man who spent his formative years--the first 17 years of his life--off the American mainland, in Hawaii, Indonesia and Pakistan, with multiple subsequent journeys to Africa.  In a nutshell, his love and attachment to the United States is tenuous, and he does not have a fundamentally pro-American view of the world.  (Dave's comment: In light of aggressive and expansionist nations such as China, North Korea, and Iran, to name a few, Obama's statements have been like seeing George Steinbrenner declare to Yankees fans that the New York Yankees had become arrogant, and that they needed to reach out to the Boston Red Sox and the Mets, and take actions to improve those teams' self-esteem, except that the teams Obama is up against have weapons of mass destruction)
  • One of the dreams of Obama's polygamous Muslim father was aproposal for the state to confiscate private land and raise taxes with no upper limit. In fact, the senior Obama insisted that "theoretically there is nothing that can stop the government from taxing 100% of income so long as the people get benefits from the government commensurate with their income which is taxed."
  • After reviewing the above, contemplate these words from Obama's book, Dreams from my father: "It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself."

While apologists for Obama are quick to declare that the senior Obama was not an Islamist, the fact remains that he had four wives in accordance with Islamic law and had a Muslim burial.  To claim that Obama senior was not really a Muslim is pure self-delusion.  It is a relief to see a mainstream financial news magazine finally break the spell of self-delusion that has bound the mainstream press till now.  Hopefully more will follow.

How Obama Thinks

Correction Appended

Barack Obama is the most antibusiness president in a generation, perhaps in American history. Thanks to him the era of big government is back. Obama runs up taxpayer debt not in the billions but in the trillions. He has expanded the federal government's control over home mortgages, investment banking, health care, autos and energy. The Weekly Standard summarizes Obama's approach as omnipotence at home, impotence abroad.

The President's actions are so bizarre that they mystify his critics and supporters alike. Consider this headline from the Aug. 18, 2009 issue of the Wall Street Journal: "Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling." Did you read that correctly? You did. The Administration supports offshore drilling--but drilling off the shores of Brazil. With Obama's backing, the U.S. Export-Import Bank offered $2 billion in loans and guarantees to Brazil's state-owned oil company Petrobras to finance exploration in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro--not so the oil ends up in the U.S. He is funding Brazilian exploration so that the oil can stay in Brazil.

U.N. to seize Jerusalem from Israel on July 26th. Take Action! by CRA Alerts on July 19, 2011

HOT PETITION! Sign to support PRO-ISRAEL HRes. 297 and 271 which defends Israel's right to defend her borders, and rejecting President Obama's call for a return to the indefensible 1967 borders. We will auto-fax 535 Congressmen. We've already delivered 104,000 petitions for Israel. Can you help us reach 200,000?

The United Nations Security Council has scheduled July 26th in New York, for open "debate" about whether or not they will seize Israeli land in September, and divide Jerusalem by establishing a Palestinian state, without negotiation or approval from Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he feared a "surprise" move after the Quartet of the United Nations, EU, USA, and Russia met last Monday in DC, to endorse President Obama's plan to enforce 1967 borders, and divide Jerusalem and seize Israeli land to form an independent Palestine, on either July 26th or in Sept. at the U.N.

Haaretz newspaper reported Quartet members "are expected to release a statement endorsing U.S. President Barack Obama's May 19 speech on the Middle East, which called for...the borders of a future state based on pre-1967 lines..."

"A source in Jerusalem said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet colleagues have concerns that the Quartet announcement could provide a surprise for Israel similar to Obama's May speech, the contents of which were revised less than 24 hours before it was delivered....The U.S. is proposing a Quartet statement that mentions the Obama address in relatively general terms and announces that a Quartet delegation would visit the region for additional talks."

The Jerusalem Post reported Netanyahu said he was ready to restart negotiations "tomorrow morning" but the Palestinians "refuse" to negotiate now. JTA reported this week, "Palestinian negotiators refuse to return to talks unless Israel freezes settlement; Israel will not consider talks with the Palestinians unless the P.A. breaks off its talks with Hamas, and unless the framework of the talks includes recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, an end to refugee claims and a longterm Israeli presence in the Jordan Valley," [without which Israel cannot defend her existence.]

President Obama wrote in his book "I will stand with [Muslims] if the political winds shift in an ugly direction," so I picture Obama siding with Palestinian President Abbas above, who said last week, "President Obama says he wants to see an independent Palestinian state by September."

We must awaken Congress so Israel can negotiate to keep their land...take action now!

Obama's Dangerous Debt Ceiling Strategy

President Obama kicked off the weekend with a testy Friday night press conference warning of the drastic consequences of failing to raise the debt limit, the havoc it would wreak on financial markets, and the disastrous repercussions for the poor and middle class. That message of fear was reiterated throughout the weekend, bookended this morning by a senior White House official who says there's a 50/50 chance that the standoff in Washington will not be resolved by the August 2 deadline.

But it's not fear for fear's sake. The White House is employing the same cynical, irresponsible political strategy to force Congress' hand that it started in January, using Wall Street as its foil. This morning, NPR-as usual and unsurprisingly-had the zeitgeist of the Obama White House just right. Cokie Roberts, its long-time commentator, said:

Anders Behring Breivik and the High Cost of Muslim Immigration

There is very little to be gained from a study of Anders Behring Breivik. He was a loner who was alienated from the society he lived in, suffered from depression, played violent video games, used steroids, listened to angry music and was of above average intelligence. This profile describes half the spree shooters in the last two decades, right down to the Columbine Massacre.

It is not Breivik's politics that make him significant. He was an outsider who despised society and escaped into romantic fantasies of omnipotence fed by video games and popular culture. Breivik cultivated a detached attitude toward the people around him and was obsessed with violent exercises of his masculinity. All this is common to killers of all political stripes and of no political affiliation whatsoever.

Is Barack Hussein Obama sabotaging the Ft. Hood murder case to avoid executing a Muslim?

Jul 25, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

The November 5, 2009 shooting rampage by the cowardly Muslim Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan was wakeup call that has become an example of why America made a grave error in electing Barack Hussein Obama.

Hasan murdered 13 innocent people. All but one were soldiers either just returning from theaters of war or preparing to deploy to combat areas. One of the dead soldiers was pregnant. The remaining victim was an Army civilian employee.

Hassan's guilt is indisputable. After being shot by an armed civilian guard the only armed personnel at the scene,   ( thanks to Bill Clinton Military bases are "gun free zones")  Hassan was immediately taken into custody. His weapons were recovered. Eye witness statements were taken and then the unexpected happened. Nothing further has taken place.

The White House immediately set up whatever roadblocks it could to thwart the Army's case against Hassan.  By December 2009 the ranking ... Continue Reading:Is Barack Hussein Obama sabotaging the Ft. Hood murder case to avoid executing a Muslim?

Holder renews attacks on America's Banking industry: When will Banking Chairman Bachus stop him?

Jul 20, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

Both Eric Holder and his boss Barack Obama are clearly enemies of American freedoms. The things they do and don't do tell us this.

Earlier this month Holder ordered his wrecking crew of social vultures in the Department of Justice's Civil Division to press new and serious attacks against America's Banking industry.

Holder is forcing banks to start lending mortgage money to minorities he imagines have been discriminated against and denied their chance at home ownership by "evil banks."

To him and his social parasites the mere fact that a minority applicant has been rejected by a lender is proof that illegal lending practices have taken place. If this sounds all too familiar it's because we have seen this before and it wrecked the housing industry. The last time around it was called the "subprime lending crisis."

The Justice Department has "requested" several banks to "ease their underwriting standards" ... Continue Reading:Holder renews attacks on America's Banking industry: When will Banking Chairman Bachus stop him?

Joys of Muslim Women
   by Nonie Darwish

In the Muslim faith a Muslim man can marry a child as young as 7 year old , consummating the marriage by 9. The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who becomes his slave) and for the purchase of the private parts of the woman, to use her as a toy.
To prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses.

Often after a woman has been raped. The family has the right to execute her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family. Husbands can beat their wives 'at will' and the man does not have to say why he has beaten her.

The husband is permitted to have 4 wives and a temporary wife for an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.

The Shariah Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life of the woman.

In the Western World (America) Muslim men are starting to demand Shariah Law so the wife can not obtain a divorce and he can have full and complete control of her. It is amazing and alarming how many of our sisters and daughters attending US and Canadian Universities are now marrying Muslim men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly to the Shariah law.

Islamophobia and Mass Murde

July 25, 2011

I have been away from the Internet for the weekend, and return to find myself being fitted out for a supporting role in Friday's evil slaughter in Norway. The mass murderer Breivik published a 1,500-page "manifesto." It quotes me, as well as several friends of NR - Theodore Dalrymple, Daniel Pipes, Roger Scruton, Melanie Phillips, Daniel Hannan (plus various pieces from NR by Rod Dreher and others) - and many other people, including Churchill, Gandhi, Orwell, Jefferson, John Locke, Edmund Burke, Bernard Shaw, Mark Twain, not to mention the U.S. Declaration of Independence.* Those new "hate speech" codes the Left is already clamoring for might find it easier just to list the authors Europeans will still be allowed to read.

It is unclear how seriously this "manifesto" should be taken. Parts of it simply cut and paste chunks of the last big killer "manifesto" by Ted Kaczynski, with the occasional [insert-your-cause-here] word substitute replacing the Unabomber's obsessions with Breivik's. This would seem an odd technique to use for a sincerely meant political statement. The entire document is strangely anglocentric - in among the citations of NR and The Washington Times, there's not a lot about Norway.

Nevertheless, Breivik's manifesto seems to be determining the narrative in the anglophone media. The opening sentence from USA Today:

 Act! for America

The Norway Terrorist

By Brigitte Gabriel, President, ACT! for America

We in ACT! for America join those around the world who are shocked and deeply saddened by the mass murder spree in Norway. We grieve for those killed, for their families, and for their friends.

This touches me very personally. I have seen friends murdered by terrorists and I have felt the unspeakable pain of that loss.

We also join those around the world who condemn, in the strongest words possible, the unconscionable actions of Anders Behring Breivik.

Not surprisingly, Brevik's 1,500 page manifesto is being combed for clues as to why he would perpetrate such a heinous act of terrorism.

For instance, a New York Times article states Breivik was "deeply influenced by a small group of American bloggers and writers who have warned for years about the threat from Islam..." He also frequently quoted the Unabomber.

Predictably, and sadly, there are those who have started the drumbeat that rhetoric critical of radical Islam is the cause of this tragedy. We have seen ludicrous online posts conjuring up comparisons to Breivik and conservative American political leaders that I won't dignify by reprinting here.

This is reminiscent of what happened after the Tucson shooting spree, when many in the press jumped to conclusions that Jared Loughner was a "right winger" or a "tea party activist."

A column by Mark Tapson in FrontPageMagazine has some very important points in this regard.

Breivik is a terrorist. His targeting of helpless schoolchildren makes him no better than the slaughterers at Beslan.... There is no connection between the legitimate, courageous, lawful work of notable anti-jihadists and such evil. No true Christian, conservative, or responsible critic of jihad would condone Breivik's despicable, cowardly acts or deem them to be in accordance with our beliefs and values. Much less would we celebrate those acts, unlike our Islamist counterparts.

In my home country of Lebanon I saw first-hand what happens when terrorism and violence is used to undermine democracy. When 9/11 happened, I made a vow that I would not allow what happened to my country of birth happen to my adopted country.

This is why the mission of the organization I founded, ACT! for America, has ALWAYS been and will ALWAYS be a call to constructive, peaceful and democratic citizen action through education, community action, and legislation.

Always devoted,

Brigitte Gabriel

Norwegian Terrorist No Christian

Both the Washington Post and the New York Times have run headlines labeling Anders Breivik, the Norwegian mass murderer, a "right-wing Christian." These are the same two newspapers that go to great lengths to avoid using the word "Muslim" to describe Islamist murderers.

They regularly warn us not to jump to conclusions about any jihadist attack, and they lecture us not to reach any conclusions about the role the Muslim religion might have played. All of these "rules" have apparently been cast aside as the two papers, and countless other commentators, try to make Breivik into a conservative Christian.

I can assure you that Anders Breivik was not a follower of Jesus Christ. I can say that with confidence because neither he nor anyone else can cite one word from the teachings of Christ that would justify his evil actions. His murderous rampage is a repudiation of the whole body of Christ's teachings. The same cannot be said about the teachings of Muhammad, which contain many statements that can be used to justify murder.

No one can find one Christian theologian, reputable pastor, denominational leader, Christian author or philosopher who will attempt to defend Breivik's actions. Unfortunately, many imams, Muslim leaders and mosques will defend Islamists who intentionally kill civilians, including children.

In Breivik's 1,500 page "manifesto," it is clear that he hates Islam and wants Europe to rediscover its Christian culture. Breivik likes violent video games. His favorite TV show is Dexter, a series that glorifies a serial killer. One also finds in his ramblings that he is a follower of Charles Darwin, seldom if ever prays, says it is possible to be a "Christian atheist," and adds, "I'm not going to pretend I'm a very religious person."

Breivik doesn't have to pretend he is a religious man - the Washington Post and the New York Times will pretend for him.

How Did We Get Here?

The media fog hanging over the debt limit negotiations is very hard to see through. We are just days away from reaching the default deadline, and the world financial markets are beginning to react to the possibility that the gridlock in Washington will continue beyond August 2nd. Here is a brief summary of what has happened in the last few days.

The media are once again blaming Republican intransigence for the stalemate. Over the weekend, Speaker John Boehner walked out of talks with President Obama for the second time. The issue, once again, is taxes.

Speaker Boehner and President Obama had agreed on $800 billion in new revenues. Speaker Boehner insists these were not tax increases, and I believe him. (Revenues can be raised in a variety of ways that do not include tax increases, such as asset sales, tweaking cost of living increases, etc.) Evidently the absence of tax hikes was a problem for Democrats.

As we reported Friday, Senate Democrats were "volcanic" when they were informed that Obama was negotiating a deal with Boehner that did not include tax increases. Obama blinked, and demanded an additional $400 billion in tax hikes.

This is what defines the modern Democrat Party - it is constantly demanding more and more of your hard-earned money. Moreover, Obama set the new figure of $1.2 trillion in revenues as a floor, rather than a ceiling. That is what led Speaker Boehner to abandon his talks with the president. He was right to do so.

The media talking heads are telling you that Republicans are blocking a deal. What is really preventing a deal is the Democrats' demand to raise taxes on small businesses and job creators in the middle of a recession. Are Democrats willing to risk a default in order to raise taxes? Let's hope we don't find out.

California Families Fight Back

Pro-family organizations in California are launching an effort to put the state's new law (Senate bill 48) mandating the teaching of "gay history" on the ballot so that the voters can have the final say. However, they are facing a huge task - they must collect 500,000 signatures in less than 90 days.

If this measure is not repealed by the voters, it will impact children and families across the country. Even the San Francisco Chronicle admitted, "The provision on [homosexual] inclusion in textbooks could reach beyond California, too, as many book publishers tailor their texts to California's standards because of the state's large population."

If you live in California and would like to help get this measure on the ballot, go to stopSB48.com. If you have like-minded friends or family members who live in California, please share this with them.

Gang Warfare Over Debt Ceiling

I've seen many political "gangs" come and go in my decades in Washington.  In recent years there has been the Gang of 14 (judicial nominations), the Gang of 12 (immigration reform) and the Gang of Ten (energy).  And now we have the much-hyped Gang of Six senators whose goal is to reach a compromise on public debt.

But it will take a much larger gang of 150 million or so voters going to the ballot box on Nov. 6, 2012, to make the changes necessary to put America on the road to financial recovery. You can read more in my column this week at humanevents.com

The Character Assassination of Robert Spencer

Posted by David Horowitz Jul 25th, 2011

The New York Times today has a wretched editorial masquerading as a news story on Robert Spencer and his alleged complicity in the Oslo massacres because his ideas are cited by the lunatic responsible. Joseph McCarthy could not have done it better. The Times next will blame Noam Chomsky for the crimes of Osama bin Laden and Al Gore for the crimes of the Unabomber since the ideas of both were cited by the lunatics. Chomsky is not only cited by the Islamic terrorists, he openly supports them - yet the Times would be the first to express shock and outrage at the mere suggestion of Chomsky's complicity in the crimes of al-Qaeda, Hizbollah and Hamas.

Robert Spencer has never supported a terrorist act. His crime in the eyes of the left is to have told the truth about Islamic fanatics beginning with the Islamic prophet who called for the extermination of the Jews and said in his farewell speech that he was called to fight until all men say that there is no God but allah. (see Bruce Thornton's article today's Frontpage).

U.S. Senate Stands with NRA

in Strongly Opposing U.N. Gun Control Efforts

For nearly 20 years, the NRA has worked tirelessly to oppose any United Nations effort to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners.  The latest attempt by the U.N. and global gun banners to eliminate our Second Amendment freedoms is to include civilian arms in the current Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which will be finalized next year.

In order for any treaty to take effect, however, it must be ratified by two-thirds of the U.S. Senate.   To ensure that any ATT that includes civilian arms is dead on arrival in the Senate, the NRA has been working to get as many U.S. Senators as possible to publicly oppose any ATT that includes restrictions on civilian arms.

As of this morning, 50 members of the U.S. Senate have signed letters to President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton saying they will oppose any ATT that includes civilian firearms ownership.  These strongly worded letters caution the President and Secretary of State to uphold the Constitution of the United States.  As Senator Jerry Moran's letter warns, "(A)s the treaty process continues, we strongly encourage your administration to uphold our constitutional protections of civilian firearms ownership.  These freedoms are non-negotiable, and we will oppose ratification of an Arms Trade Treaty presented to the Senate that in any way restricts the rights of law-abiding U.S. citizens to manufacture, assemble, possess, transfer or purchase firearms, ammunition and related items."

Thanking the NRA for our long-standing work on this issue, Senator Moran remarked, "I appreciate the NRA's partnership on this important effort to defend the rights of American gun owners. I want to thank them for their active support in sending a strong message to the Obama Administration that our firearm freedoms are not negotiable."

As we have for nearly two decades, the NRA will continue to fight against any U.N. treaty that undermines the constitutional rights of American gun owners.  These letters send a clear message to the international bureaucrats who want to eliminate our fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms.   Clearly, a U.N. ATT that includes civilian arms within its scope is not supported by the American people or their elected U.S. Senators.  We are grateful to Senator Moran, Senator Jon Tester, and all members of the Senate who have chosen to stand on the side of America's 80 million gun owners in opposition to those who want to eliminate our freedoms.  And thank you as well to those NRA members who contacted their Senators and encouraged them to support this critical effort.

Armageddon On or After Aug. 2 Not Very Likely1  by Jagadeesh Gokhal (CATO)

"After all, debt service constitutes only 12% of incoming federal revenues - more than sufficient to cover interest payments for months after Aug. 2. If the administration fails to service treasury debt on Aug. 2, it would transparently constitute a premeditated and deliberate policy to hurt the U.S. economy - which would irrevocably damage the president's re-election prospects."

Several days ago I sent an email to effect that on August 2, the government may shut down, although not many taxpayers may notice, but there will be no default on US debt obligations.

The government's fiscal and monetary policies are, however, debasing the currency resulting in a devalued dollar; an unreliable currency stifles economic growth, that is, the production of goods and services that raise our standard of living as well as, de facto, downgrading the value of US debt

"The Speaker, Sen. Reid and Sen. McConnell all agreed on the general framework of a two-part plan. A short-term increase (with cuts greater than the increase), combined with a committee to find long-term savings before the rest of the increase would be considered. Sen. Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House and the President said no."
If this is accurate the president is playing with fire. By halting a bipartisan deal he imperils the country's finances and can rightly be accused of putting partisanship above all else. The ONLY reason to reject a short-term, two-step deal embraced by both the House and Senate is to avoid another approval-killing face-off for President Obama before the election. Next to pulling troops out of Afghanistan to fit the election calendar, this is the most irresponsible and shameful move of his presidency. House and Senate leaders are preparing separate backup plans after negotiations failed to break an impasse. Negotiators focused their attention on Boehner's proposal to raise the debt limit in two stages. They thought they were close. But Obama, Harry M. Reid and Nancy Pelosi rejected the emerging compromise, saying it would leave the door open to another wrenching debt-limit battle in just a few months.
Reid said he would try a new approach with cuts which meet or exceed the amount of the debt-limit increase and no new taxes. Reid said, the $2.7 trillion debt-reduction package he plans to unveil Monday should buy the Treasury sufficient borrowing authority to pay the nation's bills through the end of next year. People familiar with the compromise said that hitting such a large target without raising taxes or cutting entitlement programs would probably rely heavily on savings from ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Counting money not spent on wars is viewed as a budget gimmick, and House GOP leaders have been reluctant to include it as savings. But it has a political advantage because it was included in the budget blueprint Republicans adopted this spring. [Washington Post, July 25]      Click here for the complete source story

"Obama ... claimed to have a $4 trillion deficit-reduction plan. The court eunuchs of the press corps were impressed, and went off to file pieces hailing the president as 'the grown-up in the room.' There is, in fact, no plan. No plan at all. No plan whatsoever, either for a deficit reduction of $4 trillion or $4.73. As is the way in Washington, merely announcing that he had a plan absolved him of the need to have one. So the president's staff got out the extra-wide teleprompter and wrote a really large number on it, and simply by reading out the really large number the president was deemed to have produced a serious blueprint for trillions of dollars in savings. ... The only 'plan' Barack Obama has put on paper is his February budget. Were there trillions and trillions of savings in that? Er, no. It increased spending and doubled the federal debt. How about Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader? Has he got a plan? No. The Democratic Senate has shown no interest in producing a budget for two-and-a-half years. Unlike the president, Sen. Reid can't even be bothered pretending he's interested in spending reductions. But he is interested in spending, and, if that's your bag, boring things like budgets only get in the way. It seems reasonable to conclude from the planlessness and budgetlessness of the Obama/Reid Democrats that their only plan is to carry on spending without limit. Otherwise, someone somewhere would surely have written something down on a piece of paper by now. But no, apparently the Department of Writing Down Plans is the only federal expense the president is willing to cut." --columnist Mark Steyn

Political Futures

"[R]egardless of how things turn out with the [debt] negotiations, what we are witnessing is the rollout of the Obama re-election campaign's theme: Obama is the pragmatic voice of reason holding the ideologues at bay. So it's worth asking, before this branding campaign gels into the conventional wisdom: Who is the real ideologue here? The president, we are told, is a pragmatist for wanting a 'fair and balanced' budget deal. What that means is tax increases must accompany spending cuts. Any significant spending cuts would be way in the future. The tax increases would begin right after Obama is re-elected. ... Obama says that Republicans are rigid ideologues because they won't put 'everything on the table.' Specifically, they won't consider tax hikes. ... But Obama hasn't put everything on the table either. He's walled off 'ObamaCare' and the rest of his 'winning the future' agenda. ... Republicans won a historic election last November campaigning against spending, borrowing, tax hikes and ObamaCare. Yet Obama's position is that the Republicans are deranged dogmatists because they don't want to raise taxes or borrow more money to pay for spending they opposed. And Obama is flexible because he refuses to revisit a program that has never been popular." --columnist Jonah Goldberg

Reader Comments

"Mark, you are right on, as usual. In addition to the BBA, we need a Congressional Containment Amendment that would include term limits, no Congressional retirement plan, Congress obeying all laws that pertain to the public, etc. We need Statesmen (and women), not slick, career politicians." --Bill

"I'm not at all sure I can support a Balanced Budget Amendment. Folks seem to assume that a constitutional amendment will limit the growth of government or some such idea because they can't just keep raising taxes to support increased spending. Many states have balanced budget amendments in their constitutions. California is one. Has the California State Government been limited in its growth? Has it been limited in its regulations or bureaucracy? The short answer is No. They just keep spending and raising taxes and fees. I can't see that the passage of a BBA will solve anything." --Pat

"In response to Friday's sarcastic question about Democrats playing politics, of course the Dems would play games and allow our country to go bankrupt -- they've been working hard toward that very goal for decades. It's in THEIR interest for this country to fail, so they can step in and 'save us' by a government take over of every aspect of our lives. Welcome to the USSA!" --Dianne

"It is incredible that the Democrats are putting their imagined political gain ahead of the welfare of the nation. Statements like 'worst piece of legislation,' 'the Republican Party has morphed into a cult' and the unending stream of lies from the White House through the Congress are a disgrace to the Democrats and to our nation." --P Gwynne

The Gipper

"[The Democratic Party leadership] tell us they have done the most that humanly could be done. They say that the United States has had its day in the sun; that our nation has passed its zenith. They expect you to tell your children that the American people no longer have the will to cope with their problems; that the future will be one of sacrifice and few opportunities. My fellow citizens, I utterly reject that view. The American people, the most generous on earth, who created the highest standard of living, are not going to accept the notion that we can only make a better world for others by moving backwards ourselves.... [T]he American people deserve better from those to whom they entrust our nation's highest offices, and we stand united in our resolve to do something about it." --Ronald Reagan

Opinion in Brief

"Americans, and their companies, have long benefited from their freedom to move throughout our country. In the 19th century, we moved in search of natural resources, exchanging the stony soil of New England for the rich soil of Iowa. In the 20th century, Americans were more likely to migrate in search of better political environments, like the blacks who fled the Jim Crow states of the South. The profound role that mobility has played in our country, enabling repeated reinvention, causes me to be deeply worried about the possibility that a National Labor Relations Board complaint will prevent Boeing Co. from moving plane production from Washington state to South Carolina. I am an economist, not a lawyer, and I have nothing to say about the legal issues surrounding the NLRB's complaint. I am sure the NLRB is doing what it understands to be its legal duty, preventing retaliation against union activity. Yet I also dearly hope that the judicial process will affirm the right of companies, and people, to freely choose their locations. The U.S. economy -- especially our challenged manufacturing sector -- needs more, not less, freedom to adapt and innovate." --Harvard economist Edward Glaeser

Government

"[G]overnment has been subsidizing higher education with low-interest college loans, Pell grants, and cheap tuitions at state colleges and universities. The predictable result is that higher education costs have risen much faster than inflation, much faster than personal incomes, much faster than the economy over the past 40 years. ... Politicians, including Barack Obama, still give lip service to the notion that everyone should go to college and can profit from it. And many college and university administrators may assume that the gravy train will go on forever. But that's what Las Vegas real estate developers and homebuilders thought in 2006. My sense is once again well intentioned public policy and greedy providers have produced a bubble that is about to burst." --political analyst Michael Barone

Essential Liberty

"For five years now, various committees of the United Nations purport to have been drafting 'an internationally acceptable Arms Trade Treaty' that 'will make the world safer.' If the U.N.'s 'Open-Ended Working Group on an ATT' completes its 'work' on time, the treaty will be voted on next year. The Obama administration is on record supporting the measure, claiming, 'The United States is committed to actively pursuing a strong and robust treaty that contains the highest possible, legally binding standards for the international transfer of conventional weapons.' ... Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon, who wrote the book on how the U.N. usurps U.S. sovereignty, 'Diplomatic Divorce,' says we shouldn't be surprised at the international forum's end run on the U.S. Constitution. 'The U.N. is a global-leftist organization that uses multilateral treaties like the ATT to enforce their will upon all humankind. It's the ultimate power play. To them, the U.S. Constitution and the sovereign rights of American citizens are irrelevant. If they have their way, they will create a vast new international bureaucracy to document, regulate, track, supervise, inspect and maintain surveillance over every firearm ever made. Such a regime ought to be completely unacceptable to every American.'" --columnist Oliver North

Re: The Left

"A global warmist named Heidi Cullen blooms this morning on the op-ed page of a New York newspaper to warn that if you think it's hot now, boy, just wait. The scientific proof is in the heat wave now baking big portions of America: 'Every 10 years, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recalculates what it calls climate "normals," 30-year averages of temperature and precipitation for about 7,500 locations across the United States. The latest numbers, released earlier this month, show that the climate of the last 10 years was about 1.5 degrees warmer than the climate of the 1970s, and the warmest since the first decade of the last century. Temperatures were, on average, 0.5 degrees warmer from 1981 to 2010 than they were from 1971 to 2000, and the average annual temperatures for all of the lower 48 states have gone up.' Do 'climate scientists' measure global warming by looking at ten-year cycles? Maybe, but it makes you wonder about 'the first decade of the last century,' when I suppose it must have been really hot. Before things cooled down during that dust-bowl episode and those world-war events and all that napalm we used to warm the mornings of southeast Asia. We're still not back up to 1910 levels, apparently." --columnist Denis Boyles

Culture

"Black U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, says 'the minority community' blames racism for the Republican refusal to increase the debt limit without conditions. ... [S]he took to the House floor with the subtlety of a woodchipper: '(O)nly this president ... only this one, has received the kind of attacks and disagreements and inability to work, only this one. Read between the lines.' ... [Q]uestioning Obama's costly government takeover of health care, his failed $800 billion 'stimulus' plan and the over $4 trillion in new debt equals racism. Lee says she speaks on behalf of the 'minority community.' Would this be the minority community with 16.2 percent black unemployment, up from 12.6 percent in the two-and-a-half years of the Obama administration? In what category does Lee place black House members like Allen West, R-Fla., and Tim Scott, R-S.C., who also oppose Obama's agenda? Are they anti-black black racists -- or black anti-black racists? ... It isn't the color of [Obama's] skin -- it is the complete and total rejection of his policies." --columnist Larry Elder

The Last Word

"We have often heard that the devil is in the details. But these days, I'm afraid he's in the Oval Office. Who else would have run on the promise to radically transform America? Who else would have thought that America, of all places, required a radical transformation? If a normal human being were asked which countries could use an overhaul, he wouldn't be thinking of the United States. Would he mention Russia and Venezuela? No doubt. Would he have China, Yemen and North Korea, on the short list? Absolutely. How about Saudi Arabia, Syria, Cuba and Iran? Indubitably. On the other hand, it's actually the one promise Obama has kept. But, who else but he and Satan would even suggest that a nation created by such giants as Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison and Adams, had to wait 232 years for a leftwing community organizer to fix what wasn't broken? And when this arrogant pipsqueak chastises the Republicans in Congress for doing nothing about the debt crisis when they're the ones who presented and voted for Paul Ryan's budget plan months ago while this schmuck has been off golfing and fund-raising, does he really believe we take his words seriously? Great men, it's said, speak truth to power; Obama speaks power to truth." --columnist Burt Prelutsky

Fitzpatrick facing budget crisis head-on - phillyBurbs.com : The Intelligencer

Posted: Sunday, July 24, 2011

America's financial strength and stability are rooted in its ability to attract investors here at home and abroad. Never in the history of our nation have we defaulted on our loans. So important is this basic principle that the United States Constitution, in addition to establishing our form of government, expressly guaranteed the new government would pay the debts of our revolution.

Despite a history of meeting our obligations, we are on the brink of having our creditworthiness as a nation downgraded. Prolific spending has hastened the now infamous Aug. 2 deadline, when the accounting gimmicks run out and the federal government's credit card hits its limit.

Congress and the president last raised the debt ceiling in February 2010 to its current level of $14.3 trillion. Since then, Congress has failed to enact any substantial measures to get spending under control and reduce our long-term deficits. In fact, the budget deficit for just the 28 days of February 2011 was $223 billion, larger than the entire deficit for all of 2007.

During the past decade, our federal government has simply lived beyond its means. The current fiscal picture of the federal government illustrates this point clearly. This year alone, the federal government plans to spend $1.4 trillion more than it has, all of it borrowed and piled on to our already staggering national debt. This debt will have to be paid off by our children and their children.

Such fiscal irresponsibility has unfortunately become all too common in Washington. Last year, the House of Representatives, under the leadership of Nancy Pelosi, was the first time since 1974 that the chamber did not even propose a budget. In the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid appears to have still not gotten the picture, as it has been more than 800 days since the Senate adopted a budget. It is impossible to get our fiscal house in order when the Senate won't even pass a budget.

To help spur the Senate to action, I have co-sponsored legislation that would strip funding from House and Senate leadership and budget committees if they fail to pass a budget.

I take the constitutional budget duties of Congress seriously, and along with my colleagues in the House of Representatives, I am working to address this fiscal crisis head-on. During my first six months in our nation's capital, I voted for nearly $100 billion in immediate cuts to the federal budget, including a 10 percent cut in funding for my own office, wasteful and duplicative defense programs and countless other programs that grew far beyond the good intentions for which they were designed.

The House also addressed the long-term fiscal sustainability of our entitlement programs through market-based reforms that will guarantee benefits for current recipients and protect the programs for generations to come. And just last week, I supported a long-term framework to prevent fiscal brinkmanship in the future.

I supported the House plan of "cut, cap and balance," because it is the only serious plan in writing that has received bipartisan support. Cut, cap and balance is responsive to the demands of the American people that we cut now and get our long-term spending in order for the future. Despite these important aspects, Sen. Reid refused to allow the plan to even be debated or voted on the floor of the Senate.

The first element of this plan cuts deficit spending by $111 billion immediately and trillions more over the next 10 years. These cuts are necessary because an increase in the debt ceiling alone is no longer sufficient to ensure a positive outlook for American credit. This plan also institutes a hard cap on federal spending at just under 20 percent of our entire economy. This figure is not arbitrary; it represents what has been the historic level of government spending in the United States before the recent explosion of federal spending.

Finally, and most importantly, this plan amends the Constitution to prevent future default by requiring the federal government to balance its budget every year.

While spending reforms are important, real reform to the complex federal tax code will help add predictability and stability to future federal budgets. Too often the tax liability of corporations and individuals alike depend on how much they can spend on lawyers, accountants and lobbyists. When corporations can use loopholes to avoid paying any federal taxes at all, it hurts both the federal government's bottom line and millions of hardworking American taxpayers who have to pick up the slack. Real tax reform lowers individual rates, closes the loopholes, eliminates extraneous deductions and makes sure everyone pays their fair share.

The United States can no longer defer difficult decisions on deficits and spending to the next Congress or the next generation. Greece and Portugal are examples of countries whose politicians have tried to ignore their crushing debt problems, simply hoping the crisis would go away. Avoiding a similar fate will require tough decisions in the short term, and real reforms for the future, but we must make them now. These decisions we make today will determine the legacy we leave for our children tomorrow.

July 20, 2011 fromInternational Forecaster Weekly newsletter by Bob Chapman who many know as The International Forecasteris posted unedited, by permission By Bob Chapman:

This past week the person, who calls himself President again engaged in extortion by threatening to shut down the government, default on bonds and deprive Americans of their Social Security and Medicare. We all know that is not going to happen unless the illegal alien wants to start a revolution. He can cut costs anytime he wants, but he is more interested in terrorizing the old and the infirm, so he can continue his wild spending. That is what his handlers have told him to do and that is what he will do. Social Security is not an entitlement, because we paid for it and it belongs to us. If politicians have stolen the funds, or these politicians cannot replace the borrowed funds, then the government should issue bonds and have the Fed purchase them, just as they have to bail out the financial sector not only on Wall Street, but also all over Europe. In addition, he might contemplate cutting spending.

Sen. Jim DeMint on Navigating DC's Treacherous Waters

Friend,

I've always believed that you can know if a man really stands for his principles if he's willing to stand alone. One such man is South Carolina Republican Senator Jim DeMint.

Maligned by many in Washington for his unbending defense of his beliefs, Sen. DeMint knows what it's like to stand alone in the face of sneers and character attacks from mainstream-media elites. In early 2010 when some states faced a choice between progressives, constitutional conservatives and weak centrist options, Sen. DeMint supported principled insurgent candidates like Sen. Marco Rubio (whom I interviewed last week).

His ballot-box picks gave him a better track record than the Republican establishment, but he's not holding his breath waiting for a thank-you. Just bringing fresh new conservative faces to Washington is enough.

South Carolinians first sent Jim DeMint to Washington in 1998 when he won a U.S. House election. His reputation for independence means he's been shunned and punished by the GOP leadership, but this true maverick seems to find his voice more and more with each year.

After serving three House terms, DeMint was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004; he won a landslide re-election victory in 2006. As he navigates D.C.'s choppy waters, DeMint continues to attract attention - and heat - for not sufficiently joining the club. But, he says, that comes with the territory for anyone willing to carve out an outsider's role.

Listen to Jim DeMint explain:

  • why Cut, Cap and Balance is a reasonable solution to our debt crisis;
  • how the Tea Party has changed the course of our country in the nick of time;
  • how Obama has failed to lead and has not negotiated the debt ceiling issue in good faith; and
  • the critical choice America faces about our future.

Next week: Republican Rep. Joe Walsh, the Freshman House Member and Illinois Tea Party favorite who upset a Democrat incumbent by 300 votes (with zero help from the Republican establishment). What a fantastic interview! Check out this video snippet for a teaser.

Cheers,

Ginni

P.S. Sen. Jim DeMint's latest book The Great American Awakening is unusually personal and revealing. I highly recommend it.

OPRAH Winfrey was wooed to Melbourne on a tsunami of taxpayer largesse.

In just three days we lavished $650,000 of our finest dining, wining and touring on Oprah, one of the world's richest and most influential women, and 92 of her "mates" from the US.

For almost two months Tourism Victoria refused to confirm the final taxpayer bill or answer a list of Herald Sun questions, including how much unbilled time its staff contributed to the visit.

Tom Coburn's cuts: Military's Tricare Prime health care program targeted

By Walter Pincus, July 24

Editor's note: Sen. Tom Coburn last Monday released a study that he said would achieve $9 trillion in deficit savings over the next decade. We are looking at parts of the proposal.

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) wants to cut taxpayer funding for non-military elements of the Defense Department, starting with making retired, uninjured service members pay more for what he described as "extremely low-cost health care for life" for themselves, their spouses and dependents under the Tricare Prime system.

For military retirees eligible for Medicare, he also wants to raise the co-payments that they are charged to be in Tricare for life, the second payer for health care after Medicare. In addition, he wants to increase low fees that Tricare beneficiaries pay for pharmaceuticals purchased at their local drugstores.

Super Congress? Congress May Attempt To Create New Legislative Body, As Rumors Of "Super Congress" Begin

The Intel Hub | By Alex Thomas | July 23, 2011

With a startling headline that should send shock waves throughout America, The Huffington Post is reporting that two influential Senators have put forth a plan that would essentially create a new legislative body, a new super congress.

"This "Super Congress," composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn't mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers," wrote Ryan Grim.

The plan, reportedly put forth by Mitch McConnell and Majority Leader Harry Reid, would create a new government body with six members from each party and would be used to pass unpopular debt ceiling legislation.

Urge Your Pennsylvania U.S. Rep. to End Support of 'Illegal Alien Amnesties by Memo'

Deportations Against Illegal Aliens in Pennsylvania Must be Carried Out

Below is a FREE FAX you can send directly to your Pennsylvania member of the U.S. House of Representatives, by merely pressing the button below.

President Obama's appointees are issuing amnesties using administrative memos. This will allow thousands of illegal aliens in Pennsylvania to avoid deportation. Various Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are being directed to use "prosecutorial discretion," and refrain from enforcing immigration laws against "non-violent" and "innocent" illegal aliens in Pennsylvania, such as those who would be amnestied by the so-called DREAM Act amnesty.

Thankfully, House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith has introduced the HALT "Hinder the Administrations Legalization Temptation) Act. Pennsylvania will greatly benefit from this bill if it becomes law, as it seeks to:

  • HALT procedures that cancel the removal of Pennsylvania's illegal aliens;
  • HALT granting work authorization to illegal aliens in Pennsylvania on a discretionary basis and;
  • HALT issuing extended voluntary departure to removable illegal aliens from Pennsylvania statewide.

The Obama Administration's preference to shield illegal aliens from deportation, and instead issue them with temporary work authorization permits is a slap in the face to all Pennsylvania residents. Please don't delay. Send this critical message to your Pennsylvania U.S. Representative, urging him/her to support Lamar Smith's HALT Act. This is a completely free service. There is no cost to you.

PRESS TO SEND THIS NO-COST FAX

Dear (Your U.S. House Representative Will Appear Here),

It is outrageous that ICE continues to grant backdoor amnesties to illegal aliens. I hope you will support the HALT Act to end this practice.

In a memo written by Obama Administration staffers, "in the absence of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, USCIS can extend benefits and/or protections to... reduce the threat of removal for certain individuals present in the United States without authorization." It is absolutely appalling for the government to look at ways of circumventing the Congress and the will of the American people in order to shield illegal aliens!

With 22 million Americans unable to find a full-time job, de facto amnestying of countless illegal aliens by pencil-pushing bureaucrats is against the clear interest of American workers. I hope I can count on you to support the HALT Act and help ensure America's laws are enforced.

Sincerely,
(Your Name Will Appear Here)

Dionne Jr., the liberal Washington Post columnist. Mr. Dionne, who looks at President Obama's feet and sees water wings, often tries to advise the Republican Party out of the goodness of his heart... Pro-choice on abortion -- but little else

DEROY MURDOCK - Almost unanimously, Washington Democrats call themselves "pro-choice." "I support a woman's right to choose!" they thunder. "Choice," of course, means abortion, and that is where the Democrats' passion for choice starts and stops... (more)

Call Obama's bluff

JOSEPH FARAH - Barack Obama's Aug. 2 deadline for raising the debt limit is as phony as his Aug. 4 birthday. He's acting like a tough guy who is going to personally withhold the Social Security checks of widows and orphans if Republicans in Congress don't raise the limit on his credit card by trillions of dollars... Obama's culture of death

JEFFREY T. KUHNER - President Obama is on the verge of achieving his liberal revolution. His goal is to destroy our Judeo-Christian culture and replace it with European-style radical secularism. The administration is now contemplating forcing health insurance companies to provide free birth control - including the "morning-after" pill - as part of Obamacare... (more)

Trump still skeptical of Obama's birth certificate

DAILY CALLER - Now that he's no longer interested in a run for the White House, at least for the time being, it would make sense for real estate mogul Donald Trump to drop the whole "birther controversy" subject, right? But Trump isn't. In an appearance on Wednesday's "Piers Morgan Tonight" on CNN, Trump revisited the topic and refuted claims of racism... (more)

Bernie Sanders says it would be a 'good idea' to primary President Obama

Go for it

Recently, President Obama has faced fire from many in his own base for endorsing unpopular proposals that would include regressive cuts to Social Security in order to win a hike in the debt ceiling.

Today, while appearing on Thom Hartmann's radio show, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) - who, while being an independent, caucuses with the Democrats - said that one way progressives can make sure Obama does not enact huge cuts to major social programs is to run a primary challenger against him. Sanders told a listener who called in to protest a debt ceiling deal that cuts Social Security that such a challenge would be a "good idea":

Obama campaign attracts Wall Street money, despite tensions

Find out who your "money guy" is giving money to

About a third of the money his top fundraisers have brought in this year has come from the financial sector, suggesting that strained relations with Wall Street have not hurt the president's ability to attract donations there for his reelection campaign, according to data released Friday by the Center for Responsive Politics.

The numbers represent a notable increase from 2008, when bundlers in the investment and banking arena accounted for about 20 percent of the total brought in by top fundraisers for Obama.

Traffic crime, drunked driving deportations way up

Record number of people deported

Huge increases in deportations of people after they were arrested for breaking traffic or immigration laws or driving drunk helped the Obama administration set a record last year for the number of criminal immigrants forced to leave the country, documents show.

The U.S. deported nearly 393,000 people in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, half of whom were considered criminals. Of those, 27,635 had been arrested for drunken driving, more than double the 10,851 deported after drunken driving arrests in 2008, the last full year of the Bush administration, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement data provided to The Associated Press.

'Super Congress': debt ceiling negotiators aim to create new legislative body

Worst idea EVER

Debt ceiling negotiators think they've hit on a solution to address the debt ceiling impasse and the public's unwillingness to let go of benefits such as Medicare and Social Security that have been earned over a lifetime of work: Create a new Congress.

This "Super Congress," composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn't mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers. Under a plan put forth by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his counterpart Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), legislation to lift the debt ceiling would be accompanied by the creation of a 12-member panel made up of 12 lawmakers -- six from each chamber and six from each party.

GRASSFIRE NATION UPDATE
Steve Elliott

Dear Patriot,

On Friday, Harry Reid used a procedural move to sabotage
the Senate cloture vote on "Cut, Cap and Balance." Technically
it was a "vote on the motion to table the motion to proceed"
to the bill.

In doing so, Reid called the bill "radical" and said
it was "one of the worst pieces of legislation to
ever be placed on the floor of the United States
          Senate."

Radical? Cutting spending is radical? Capping government
spending is radical? Balancing the budget is radical?

It was a strict party-line vote with all Democrats voting
to table (i.e. kill) the bill. This despite the fact that
20 Democratic Senators have pledged their support for a
Balanced Budget Amendment.

The Big Spenders think they just won the fight. Now, Reid
and gang are headed back to negotiate a "compromise" that
will increase our debt, expand government and raise our taxes.

What's next?

One of two things...

Either the backroom deal that Obama and the Big Spenders have
been working on for weeks will pass with tax increases and no
end to the spending and deficit madness,

Or...

A second wave of the Tea Party resistance will arise and
demand an end to runaway spending, demand a balanced budget
amendment, and demand fiscal accountability in Washington.

If you are outraged...

#5 -- (most important) Stay in the fight. Keep your chin up.
The price of liberty is high. We must remain vigilant. The very
future of our nation is at stake and we have been called to
serve for "such a time as this." This is OUR Valley Forge,

Glenn BeckJuly 25, 2011

On Monday's Program

Al Jazeera targets Glenn Beck, calls him a terrorist: Hillary Clinton's favorite news source bashes Glenn. READ. Glenn will respond on radio tomorrow.

NFL Star angers fans by reading Glenn Beck book

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver and one-time Dancing with the Stars contestant Chad Ochocinco has caused quite a controversy among his 2.3 million fans on Twitter. What did the outspoken star do to hack off so many? He read a book. The real crime, of course, is that he was reading a book written by Glenn Beck. The best part is Ochocinco didn't back down and said he'd read the book and decide for himself. Get Glenn's reaction from radio HERE.

Less than 30 days away to Restoring Courage

In less than a month from now Glenn and thousands of others from around the world will stand and show their support for Israel and the Jewish people. At a time when the world is starting to point the finger and blame Israel for all the problems in the Middle East, someone needs to support the only country in the region with actual freedom. Glenn and thousands of others will do that in Jerusalem this August. Can't make it? Find out how you can host/attend a viewing party and help support this great event HERE.

Norway tragedy: media blames U.S. conservatives

Glenn warned long ago, during the infamous 'railroad track' monologue on TV, what was coming in Europe. Glenn explains on radio today how the 'left and right' over there is different from the 'left and right' here in America and how it all ties into this crazed shooter who needlessly took the lives of over 90 innocent people - including children. Glenn's reaction to the shooting HERE and see how the media is already pointing the finger at American conservatives HERE

Media quick to call shooter a 'right wing, Christian extremist' - but was he? The shocking (or not) answer HERE.

Fareed Zakaria blames the Tea Party for DC polarization

President Obama's buddy and CNN host Fareed Zakaria can only see one possible explanation for the polarization in Washington D.C. right now - and all the blame lies with the Tea Party. Yep, not the President mocking those who protest against him, clinging to their God and guns while waving their 'tea bags' around -- couldn't have been that. It's those darn Tea Party people causing all the problems! Audio & reaction HERE.

Is the debt ceiling a giant set up?

Glenn thinks so. Does anyone really believe they are serious about cutting spending? In the last few years these same politicians have passed three separate $1 trillion spending bills and our debt has increased 40% in the last 2 years. Why else would they continue the massive spending unless there was another motive? Glenn has more on radio today - WATCH.

Are you up for The Challenge?

There's one question on the minds of millions of Americans lately: what can I do? Glenn's new challenge is here to show you that by gathering with like-minded friends and learning our real history, real change can happen. The first mission has been released - take the challenge HERE

The Law Firm of Massa, Wu & Weiner

Congressman Wu is the latest in a long line of United States politicians to be involved in a sex scandal. For years we've been told that the sexcapades of politicians doesn't matter - the truth is that it does. How many politicians right now have something to hide? The number is likely high, and it's even more likely that their enemies could use that information against them. How dangerous could that be? Glenn explains.

Traitor? Cynthia McKinney is at it again

Just a few weeks ago former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney was in Libya talking about how bad America is and that we should be more like Libya. Now more video of the former Congresswoman has surfaced of her on Iranian TV saying America is the most violent nation on the planet and responsible for assassinations. Video of McKinney's interview HERE.
