Stand Against Ground Zero Mosque, and Durban III, Stand for America

NEW YORK, July 6: The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.

Free citizens are coming from all over the U.S. to attend the rally. "It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks," said AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller. "We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom."

AFDI and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program are encouraging all Americans to stand against the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero and the anti-Semitic Durban III conference that will be held in New York City at the same time, and for American values on the tenth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil.

The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members Alexander and Maureen Santora, who lost their firefighter son Christopher; Sally Regenhard, whose son Christian was killed on 9/11; Nelly Braginsky, who lost her son Alexander; and others.

   Glenn Beck Restoring Courage Viewing Party : On Wednesday, August 24 we will be streaming the event at The Moose and we're inviting everyone to come down and share this together.  Many of us went to the Restoring Honor event last year and we were deeply moved by the day's events.  Being with others we know made this even more special.  Although we are not going to travel to Israel, we are hoping that we can recreate that atmosphere here in Bucks County.  We are still in the development stages of this event and would like to hear your suggestions on how to have it work out.  And if you can help with the planning, set up and the break down, please let us know.  These events are even more special when you are part of the effort to make it come off well for everyone who comes.  Be sure to invite your friends and family to come as well.  This would be a great opportunity to meet other patriots and meet some new ones.

1. Now House Republicans Must Fight The Gang of 6?s Gangrene Plan

Think of the Senate "Gang of 6? Plan as the "Gangrene Plan." It will slowly, but surely, rot away the nation. It was presented yesterday with a few claims:

(1) It was not designed to play a role in the debt ceiling debate;

(2) It was not meant to undercut the House Republicans' "Cut, Cap, and Balance" plan; and,

(3) It would not be a tax increase.

The reality is the opposite of each of those statements. The Gang of 6 plan is intended to play a role in the debt ceiling debate by giving the McConnell-Reid-Pelosi Pontius Pilate Act more life to get passed until the Gangrene Plan can take affect.

They rushed the plan out the door with a coordinating statement of support from the White House to try to stop the momentum toward the Cut, Cap, and Balance Plan.

And they did this all while trying to provide cover for massive, massive tax increases. And the pathetic irony is that while the President wants to use it to give cover to a $2 trillion debt increase this year, the Gangrene Plan would cut only $3.5 trillion in debt over ten years. In other words, the Democrats would foist on us $2 trillion in debt today in exchange for cutting the budget by $3.5 trillion in ten years - assuming Congress and the President agree to all the cut recommendations and excluding interest on the national debt.

The Gangrene Plan was to no avail. The House Republicans, joined by five Democrats, passed Cut, Cap, and Balance last night. The House GOP showed it is in favor of raising the debt ceiling, but only if spending is cut, future spending is capped, and the budget is balanced.

The Senate GOP is furious. They have been undermined. The House GOP stood up for principle.

What's going to happen now is the Senate will tell the House that its plan cannot pass. House Republicans must now continue to hold the freaking line. They must not waiver. They must understand that now that their plan is passed and that it allows the debt ceiling to be raised, the House GOP's hand strengthens every day closer to August 2nd. And if this debacle goes past August 2nd, the House GOP is in charge as long as it holds the freaking line.

As for Mitch McConnell? In addition to his plan being a nonstarter, conservatives have gone to war with him personally. Here is a new ad that is about to launch against McConnell in a full on assault against his Pontius Pilate Plan.

2. The Fuzzy Math from Gang of Six

As a rule of thumb, any idea coming from a gang is not a good one. This holds true in the real world; it is certainly true in the gangster world of the U.S. Senate. Members of the media are agog with glee over the supposed Gang of Six deal to cut the deficit by $3.7 trillion over 10 years. There is much hype over the fact that more than half the Senate attended the unveiling of the proposal, with many Republicans - including those in leadership - offering robust praise for it. Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) is calling for a vote on the plan, even though most of the details don't exist.

3. The President's Spending Cut Prediction was Only Off by 4,000 Billion Dollars.

Rep. Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina's 5th district, had strong words today for House Democrats demagoguing the Cut, Cap & Balance proposal from Republicans. Mulvaney correctly categorizes the Democrat's own proposal as Duck, Dodge & Dismantle.

4. Destroying Rupert Murdoch

In 1998, a reporter at the Cincinnati Enquirer, Michael Gallagher, wrote an 18 page exposé on Chiquita Brands International and its corporate goings on in Central America. The report sourced phone calls leaked to the newspaper.

In fact, Gallagher had illegally tapped into Chiquita's phone system.

In 2010, NBC's parent company General Electric paid a $23.5 million settlement to the SEC on allegations that its subsidiaries bribed Iraqi officials to win UN contracts.

In neither case was Gannett, the parent of the Cincinnati Enquirer, or GE hauled before Congress with its CEO sworn in to answer questions about their conduct.

In neither case did media sensationalize what was going on.

But things are different with Rupert Murdoch. Why? Because he is amazingly successful and many other media properties unwilling or unable to compete would rather destroy him than innovate ahead of him.

5. Solving the NLRB Ambush Election and Card-Check Issues in One Fell Swoop

This week, on Monday and Tuesday, an "open meeting" occurred at President Obama's National Labor Relations Board over the NLRB's proposal to move toward ambush elections. Though largely a waste of time, since the union appointees running the NLRB have little intent to listen to the practical side of labor relations and will do the unions' bidding, there is a simple solution to resolving this entire matter that is straightforward, fair and apolitical.

6. PCCC/Reddit cofounder Aaron Swartz indicted for mail fraud.

PCCC stands for "Progressive Change Campaign Committee," which was a group that rose to fame last year for its stellar record in taking progressive campaign cash and turning it into mocking, pathetically broken dreams; Reddit is of course the popular news source that none of you use because the liberals on it will downvote you to death if you try; Aaron Swartz is a co-founder of both, as well as the Executive Director of Demand Progress*; and 'mail fraud' is a shorter way of saying "A Harvard University fellow studying ethics has been accused of using the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's computer network to steal nearly 5 million academic articles." Specifically, Swartz is being charged with hacking into and stealing from JSTOR - which is pretty much the source for online academic journal articles.

Conservative Solutions, White House Attacks

	NewCommon Sense Applying First Principles to the Issues of Today

The First Conservatives

Modern conservatives look to a variety of historical figures for guidance as they confront progressive liberalism. Some are from the 1700's and 1800's, including Edmund Burke, the Founders, and Abraham Lincoln. Others, like Russell Kirk, F.A. Hayek, Milton Friedman, and Ronald Reagan, are from the postwar era. Strangely enough, conservatives rarely turn to the original opponents of progressivism, perhaps because it is often thought that none existed. But as historian Jonathan O'Neill explains in a new paper, American conservatism was hardly on hiatus during the progressive ascendancy.

Opponents of progressivism held a wide range of beliefs about government and society, but one group of them refused to jettison the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. These "constitutional conservatives" included President William Howard Taft, Secretary of State Elihu Root, and a group of intellectuals and politicians who formed the National Association for Constitutional Government (NACG). In their common commitment to America's principles, they contrasted with not only the progressives but also those conservatives who were willing to abandon the founding documents in favor of other ideologies.

So what did Taft, Root, and the NACG believe?

• Our Constitution recognizes that people have natural rights that do not come from the government. Instead, the government is tasked only with protecting these rights from "arbitrary or illegitimate authority."
• Our government is one of limited powers, both because the people retain sovereignty at all times and because the Founders recognized that human nature inclines people to abuse power.
• Conservatism insists on "equal rights for all" and "special privileges for none." This means that laws should not single out groups for special treatment, either negative or positive.
• Being a constitutional conservative requires a commitment to republicanism rather than direct democracy. A republic, unlike a democracy, allows for beneficial "distance and delay between public opinion and the creation of law."
   

Three other schools of conservatives abandoned American first principles during this period, which hampered their response to progressivism. Southern agrarian conservatives ended up marginalized as apologists for secession or co-opted by the federal gravy train as they secured special treatment for the South. Burkean traditionalists never managed to overcome their aristocratic tendencies and reconcile themselves to self-government, a fundamental principle of the Constitution. And just as they denounced all other existing forms of government, radical libertarians like Albert Jay Nock rejected even the American experiment in limited government as illegitimate. Each of these groups challenged all or part of the Founding's emphasis on self-government and natural rights, with deleterious effects.

Today, it is easy to tell what conservatives are against-the left. It's harder to say what the diverse movement is for. Just as the NACG and other constitutionalists from a century ago united behind the principles of our Constitution and Declaration, modern conservatives of all stripes must unite behind America's first principles. After all, these principles are ultimately what the movement seeks to conserve.

 When Barack Hussein Obama suggested a suicidal return to pre- 1967 borders as the way to lasting peace for Israel the politically uninitiated assumed America's Jews would turn on him and withdraw their support for his re-election.  This silliness lasted for a few weeks until prominent elected Jewish Democrats visited Jewish old age homes and other meeting places to reassure them they had not really heard what they heard and saw.

 Rahm Emanuel, one of Obama's favorite "Jewish policemen", was called in to do damage control and actually said, "That statement [Obama's 1967 border remark]does not mean a return to 1967 borders."  The great Groucho Marx line, "Who are you going to believe; me or your lyin' eyes?" comes to mind.

Shocker:  Overwhelming 73% of Palestinians support Islamic Teaching to Murder Jews

A new poll has found that an overwhelming 73% of Palestinian Arabs agree with the hadith [Islamic tradition ascribed to Muhammad], quoted by the terrorist group Hamas in its Charter, about the need to conduct a genocide of Jews. The hadith in question states, "The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him."

The Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCP) poll, sponsored by the Israel Project and conducted by American pollster Stanley Greenberg, also contained the following findings:

• An even larger number of Palestinians - 80% - agree with the statement in the Hamas Charter calling for creation of Arab and Islamic battalions to fight the Jews.
• 61% of Palestinians reject the idea of a peaceful Palestinian state living alongside Israel as the solution to the Arab/Israeli war, as against 34% who accepted it.
• 66% said that the Palestinians' real goal should be to start with setting up a Palestinian state alongside Israel but then move towards creating a single Palestinian-controlled state.
• 72% of Palestinians support denying Jewish history and connection to the land of Israel.
• An overwhelming 92% of Palestinians insist on Jerusalem being only the Palestinian capital, as against a mere 1% who believe it should be the Israeli capital. Only 3% of Palestinians believe that Jerusalem should be the capital of both Israel and a Palestinian state, and 4% believe it should be a neutral international city.
• 62% of Palestinians support a policy of kidnapping Israeli soldiers and holding them hostage.
• 53% favor teaching songs about hating Jews in Palestinian schools.
• 64% supported seeking a unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood at the UN. (Gil Hoffman, '6 in 10 Palestinians reject 2-state solution, survey finds,' Jerusalem Post, July 15, 2011).

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, "This poll is even more frightening than many others to which we have pointed over the years. It is terrible enough when one reads of Palestinian denial of Jewish history or support for terrorism against Israelis. But it is even worse when one reads that nearly three-quarters of Palestinians agree with the hadith calling upon Muslims to hasten the Day of Judgment by murdering Jews everywhere they can be found.

"When coupled with other findings, such as the even greater support for Hamas positions like establishing an Arab/Islamic army to fight the Jews, or supporting the inculcation of Jew-hatred into Palestinian youth, it is not hard to understand why negotiations with the Palestinians under current conditions would be fruitless or worse.

"We also learn from this poll that, there may be times when a majority of Palestinians can be found supporting negotiations rather than a campaign of terrorism, yet we see that, even in such cases, it is only for the purpose of obtaining more from Israel, or setting up a Palestinian state as a Trojan Horse. In this scenario, a state supposedly intended to live peacefully alongside Israel, becomes the instrument to turn Israel into a Palestinian-dominated single state. Tragically, nothing has changed since 1974 when the PLO enunciated its strategy for the phased destruction of Israel, in which the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel is merely to serve as a prelude to Israel's eventual dismemberment."

Just a few minutes ago, the House of Representatives passed the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act by a vote of 234 to 190.

This commonsense, responsible approach to debt reduction shows how dedicated conservatives in Congress can tackle Washington's spending binge. They rejected job-destroying tax hikes to reduce the deficit, and so do we.

By passing this plan, Congressional conservatives demonstrated they are the only lawmakers in Washington that are seriously committed to saving the American dream for our children and grandchildren.

It is now up to the Senate to pass Cut, Cap and Balance and then demand action from the White House. The time for vague descriptions and kick-the-can proposals is over. The Senate and White House must step up to the plate and do what is right for this country.

The Welfare State by Richard Baehr

The goal of the left is to create enough entitlements, for enough people, that America's two party system will become similar to those in  Europe- where the essential components of the welfare state are never challenged any more. The quibbling between the parties is then only at the margins.   The good society becomes an ordered society, with the rules and results , dictated by the bureaucrats. Obamacare, if not reversed,  is likely to be the final nail in the coffin - creating a new class of tens of millions of people dependent on government. It will, of course, come at horrific cost- it will be jobs killing, and guarantee slower economic growth in the future, which will lower the average standard of living.  It is likely to create demand driven inflation, which will be treated by the new classes of regulators through rationing, and price controls, which are very likely to drive physicians from their practice.  And it is certain to be far more expensive than the CBO estimates for the legislation, moving up the day of reckoning for the nation's spiraling out of control debt.  The left will argue that the rich just need to pay their fair share.  They will ignore the fact that the Bush tax cuts of 2001 removed almost half the population from the income tax roles, and Obamacare is financed at least half, and likely more than that, by tax increases , exclusively on upper income Americans.  In Europe, everyone who works, pays taxes and rates are generally higher at all income levels than they are in America. .  The left in America, behaves as if all their social programs can be paid for by squeezing those in the top bracket to pay higher taxes. They are very wrong on this, which means they are either bad at math, or liars, or too lazy to do the analysis.  In no case, is the let willing to challenge any program, once they are established. All spending is essential.  All cuts, they argue are draconian, impacting the poor, the elderly, the middle class, and disproportionately, minorities. Can anyone identify any spending programs that President Obama has shown a willingness to cut, other than defense? Where are the $3 trillion in cuts  he supposedly put on the table?  The left is allergic to spending cuts in domestic programs. Another Day, Another Deal

While the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on its deficit reduction plan later this evening, there is breaking news of yet another possible deal in the Senate.

According to Politico, the plan aims to cut the debt by nearly $4 trillion over the next ten years through a combination of spending cuts, statutory spending caps imposed over the next four years and major tax reform. As always, the devil is in the details. We will keep you posted as we learn more.

Obama's Lost Wynn

I think it is safe to say that Steve Wynn, CEO of the casino company Wynn Resorts, won't be voting for Barack Obama in 2012. Using the unusual venue of a conference call to announce his company's quarterly results, Wynn delivered a blistering broadside against President Obama's economic agenda. Here are some excerpts from his remarks:

"I'm saying it bluntly, that this administration is the greatest wet blanket to business, and progress and job creation in my lifetime. ...I could spend the next three hours giving you examples of all of us in this market place that are frightened to death about all the new regulations, our healthcare costs escalate, regulations coming from left and right. A president ... that keeps using that word 'redistribution.' ...

"Everybody complains about how much money is on the side in America. You bet and until we change the tempo and the conversation from Washington, it's not going to change. And those of us who have business opportunities and the capital to do it are going to sit in fear of the president. ...this is Obama's deal and it's Obama that's responsible for this fear in America.

"The guy keeps making speeches about redistribution and maybe we ought to do something to businesses that don't invest, their holding too much money. We haven't heard that kind of talk except from pure socialists. Everybody's afraid of the government and there's no need soft peddling it. It is the truth. ...I'm telling you that the business community ... is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the president of the United States. And until he's gone, everybody's going to be sitting on their thumbs."

Whatever you may think of Steve Wynn and the gambling industry, he has repeatedly risked his fortune to create thousands of jobs. Unlike our president, Wynn knows how jobs are created and how free enterprise works.

Fox Hunting

News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch and his son testified before the British Parliament today about the phone hacking scandal that has gripped the media's attention. It goes without saying that the hacking of phones of celebrities, politicians and at least one murder victim is despicable and unacceptable. The hacks were allegedly carried out by individuals at the News of the World, one of Murdoch's newspapers.

Ten people have been arrested, including two News Corporation executives. Two of London's top police officials have resigned. To his credit, Murdoch has met with the parents of the murdered girl and apologized profusely.

So far this scandal is limited to one Murdoch paper in Britain. But at the urging of liberal organizations and some politicians in Congress, the FBI is investigating whether any 9/11 victims were subjects of the phone hacking scandal.

Having said that, it is clear what is going on now. Every left-wing media outlet, organization and politician in Europe and the United States is salivating at the prospect of bringing down Murdoch, who has singlehandedly broken the left's near-monopoly on the delivery of news. The left can't stand Murdoch's success. He provided forums that reflected and represented the normal conservative instincts of millions of people who previously had few outlets to get their news. The left can't stand the competition from Fox News, the one network that does not toe the liberal line.

The media's hypocrisy is also obvious. While the left is up in arms over this hacking scandal, it has welcomed others. In today's Wall Street Journal, Bret Stephens compares the News of the World case to Julian Assange and WikiLeaks. Stephens asks, "Both, in short, are despicable instances of journalistic malpractice... So why is one a scandal, replete with arrests, resignations and parliamentary inquests, while the other is merely a controversy, with Mr. Assange's name mooted in some quarters for a Nobel Peace Prize?"

WikiLeaks and Assange were eagerly embraced by the left, even though people's lives and national security have been put at risk. Left-wing British papers and the New York Times loved WikiLeaks because it undermined America, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, made it more difficult for our foreign policy to succeed and weakened our role in the world. That, as Stephens argues, was in the public interest - as defined by the left.

In contrast, Britain's hacking scandal is described as a crime against humanity because it offers the left a chance to promote its own interests - namely destroying the major media voice of center-right ideas. It is telling that after each terrorist attack, the left is quick to give jihadists the benefit of the doubt. But Rupert Murdoch and Fox News have already been convicted by the left-wing media.

Standing With Israel

Things are hopping in Washington! We are doing everything we can to make sure conservative principles are upheld in the debt ceiling negotiations. I am also actively involved in the Christians United For Israel conference going on right now.

Thousands of pro-Israel activists have come to our nation's capital this week for CUFI's annual Washington Summit. Today, I moderated a session during which we heard from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu via satellite. Tonight, Glenn Beck will be the keynote speaker at the Night to Honor Israel banquet. Tomorrow activists from all over the country will go to Capitol Hill to urge their lawmakers to stand with Israel, as both America and Israel are under attack by the same Islamofascist enemy.

As a CUFI national co-founder and member of the Executive Board, I am very proud of the tremendous work CUFI and Pastor John Hagee are doing on behalf of Israel. And Americans coast-to-coast are taking notice. CUFI continues to enjoy explosive growth, approaching nearly 800,000 online activists!

Democrats To Redefine Marriage

Tomorrow, the Democrat-led Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on legislation sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and legalize same-sex "marriage." More than two dozen senators - all Democrats - are co-sponsoring Feinstein's pro-gay marriage bill.

        Senate aides say a fallback plan to give President Obama authority to raise the $14.3 trillion debt limit will soon become "plan A" for averting a national default.
        Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell have made votes on the Cut, Cap and Balance Act and a balanced-budget amendment their priority this week. But GOP aides say the leaders are already looking past those votes to a potential deal with Democrats to raise the debt limit before an Aug. 2 deadline and spare Republican lawmakers from a political backlash.
        The fallback option, which would give Obama nearly unilateral authority to raise the debt limit, continued to gain momentum Monday as Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), an influential member of the Senate Democratic Conference, endorsed it.
        Conservative opposition to the McConnell-Reid plan intensified on Monday as a coalition of activist groups, including some affiliated with the Tea Party, sent a scathing letter to Capitol Hill bashing it.
        The outcry has spurred efforts by House Republicans to reach a deal with the president, including through an unannounced White House meeting between Obama, Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.). [The Hill, July 18]      Click here for the complete source story  

        The plan, called "Back in Black," proposes spending cuts that span the entire U.S. government - from Congress to independent agencies - and aims to reform entitlements and overhaul the U.S. tax code.
        "This plan offers the American people 9 trillion reasons to stop making excuses and start solving the problems in Washington," Coburn said in a press conference Monday.
        "I wouldn't expect [the proposal] to pass, but I would expect people to look at it," Coburn told Bob Schieffer. ""We have spent thousands of hours going through every program in the federal government. We have $9 trillion worth of savings that are achievable over the next ten years. Pick half of them. Half of them solve our problems."
        "The federal government has become so large, it is impossible to grasp its true size and scope or to pay for its costs. Nearly every corner of the federal government is rife with duplication, mismanagement, and special interest carve outs. Each is protected by an entrenched bureaucracy, a well-financed lobbying group, an active and organized constituency, and an entrenched politician, which time and again align to best any efforts to reform, cut, or eliminate government waste." The White House Office of Management and Budget labeled the GOP bill as an "empty political statement."
        "Neither setting arbitrary spending levels nor amending the Constitution is necessary to restore fiscal responsibility. Increasing the federal debt limit, which is needed to avoid a federal government default on its obligations and a severe blow to the economy, should not be conditioned on taking these actions. Instead of pursuing an empty political statement and unrealistic policy goals, it is necessary to move beyond politics as usual and find bipartisan common ground."

The new survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted July 15-17 among 764 adults.
        Administration officials project an economic catastrophe if the debt limit is not raised by Aug. 2. - 40% of Americans say it is absolutely essential the debt limit be raised to avoid an economic crisis, and 39% say the country can go past this date without major economic problems.
        Most Republicans and GOP-leaning independents (59%) who have been following the issue very or fairly closely say the country can go past Aug. 2 without major problems; about the same percentage of Democrats and Democratic leaners (61%) who have been following this issue very or fairly closely say it would be a major crisis. McConnell's Plan B Debt-Ceiling Compromise Is (Almost) Unconstitutional (Bad Policy, Too!)

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's proposed debt-ceiling compromise could be a disaster. Not only is it bad policy--it also pushes the edge of the constitutional envelope.

The non-conservative Senate Republican-proposed compromise with the White House would raise the debt ceiling and give President Obama power to raise it higher down the road.

First, it's bad policy to transfer borrowing power to the president. The Framers deliberately wanted to constrain executive spending power, which is why the Constitution requires that every dollar spent by the government must first be appropriated by Congress, and separately specifies that only Congress can borrow money.

In earlier days, people who opposed the pornification of culture were denounced as "prudes" until they finally gave up or were seduced by the dark side. People who opposed abortion were falsely accused of wanting to harm women. And people who opposed unilateral divorce were smeared as lacking compassion for those in unhappy unions.

Townhall Media uncovered an internal email from the ATF that the operation was essentially a way to, you guessed it, enforce tighter gun control.

It would cut farm subsidies, Medicare, student aid, housing subsidies for the poor, and funding for community development grants. Coburn even takes on the powerful veterans' lobby by proposing that some veterans pay more for medical care and prescription drugs.

Fake ID law ratchets up penalties

Adults using fake IDs face 15 yrs or $250K in fines

Any Georgia adult who uses a fake ID to get a job could go to prison for 15 years and pay a fine of $250,000.

The new offense, called aggravated identity fraud, went into effect July 1 under a little-noticed provision of the state's new immigration law. It applies to everyone, not just illegal immigrants. The penalties are on par with possessing up to 10,000 pounds of marijuana.

On deficit, Americans prefer spending cuts, open to tax hikes

Republican voters forgive tax increases?

Americans' preferences for deficit reduction clearly favor spending cuts to tax increases, but most Americans favor a mix of the two approaches. Twenty percent favor an approach that relies only on spending cuts and 4% favor an approach that uses tax increases alone.

These results are based on a July 7-10 Gallup poll, conducted as government leaders from both parties continued negotiating an agreement to raise the federal debt limit. Both Republicans and Democrats appear willing to raise the debt limit, provided the government outlines plans to significantly reduce federal deficits in the future. The parties generally agree on making deep spending cuts, but do not agree on whether tax increases should be included to help reach their target goals for deficit reduction. Many Republicans in Congress oppose any such tax increases; thus, the legislation may not pass if tax hikes are included.

New Alabama immigration law has some immigrants preparing to move

Illegals bailing on Alabama

Most parts of Alabama's immigration law won't take effect until Sept. 1 at the earliest, yet many people already are reacting to it.

Some unauthorized immigrants have moved from Alabama.  Many are trying to sell sofas, refrigerators and other items to raise money in case the law does survive a federal court challenge and they need to move home or to states without such a law.

Generational Oppurtunity Poll: As Congress and President battle on debt ceiling, young Hispanics prefer spending cuts to taxes by close 3 to 1

Democrats baffled

Bill Clinton advocates constitutional option on debt ceiling

Clinton advises using the 14th amendment trick

Former President Bill Clinton said Monday he wouldn't hesitate to raise the debt ceiling without congressional approval--a fraught political course that President Obama has been reluctant to follow as he seeks to broker a deal on spending with Republican leaders.

Clinton told The National Memo he would invoke the constitutional option "without hesitation, and force the courts to stop [him]" if Congress and the White House fail to reach an agreement to raise the debt ceiling by the Aug. 2 deadline when the U.S. Treasury says the government will begin to default on its debts.

News Corp scandal just plain bizarre: Murdoch assaulted (video)

UPDATE: Reports claim Murdoch was physically assaulted by a radical activist from the group UK Uncut today. If that sounds familiar - it's because Glenn has covered this radical group extensively on TV. Visit The Blaze for the latest updates. 

Rupert Murdoch says this is the most 'humble' day of his life and says he had no idea what was going on in the phone hacking scandal. Murdoch also pointed out that the News of the World was only 1% of News Corp's business - but that's not stopping the left from trying to link the scandal to Fox News. What doesn't help matters is all kinds of players in this story are resigning (even ones not being charged) and the guy who blew the whistle on the whole story turned up dead this week. Strange.
