Obama Executive Orders Impose New Gun Rules

The Blaze | by Buck Sexton | Posted on July 12, 2011 at 6:51am

Obama Executive Orders Impose New Gun RulesA few days ago, the Blaze reported on the low-key plans of the Obama administration to increase the penalties for certain gun law violations, and add steps to the background checks for legal gun ownership.

Today the administration's plans are beginning to come into effect. Through an Executive Order, the Obama administration is implementing new restrictions on the sale of certain weapons in border states, and increasing the penalties for violating certain firearms laws.

Restoring Courage - Jerusalem 2011

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government.  We have talked to all the power brokers.  The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God.  It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.

"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand.  I ask you to join me.  I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth.  If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution.  This is a people of faith solution.  This is a people all over the world solution.  I ask you to help get this word out."

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT

 UN AGENDA 21

aka Local Agenda 21 & "sustainable development"

WILL SHOCK YOU!!!

Do you have a nagging feeling something is wrong, but you don't know exactly what?  Who controls the US?   Who writes our laws?       Is it our elected officials or a higher organization like the UN?  Do you know where our money comes from and how debt affects us?

Join us Saturday, July 23rd - 6pm                                              PJ Ryan's  231 Bridge St., Phoenixville - private downstairs meeting room

There will be a discussion about UN Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, Property Rights & our Money.  This meeting may help fill in some of the blanks that the media leaves out.

Agenda 21 is a plan that calls for international control & regulation of virtually every aspect of human activity that might impact the environment, which is essentially EVERYTHING YOU DO - eat, drink, cook, drive, play, work, and LIVE.

Maurice Strong, UN Secretary General  - 1992  Rio de Janeiro United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) said "...Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class involving high meat consumption and large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and workplace air-conditioning, and suburban housing are NOT sustainable.  So, what does he mean by NOT Sustainable? http://sovereignty.net/p/sd/strong.html

Translation:  YOU will NO longer be allowed to have them.

J. Gary Lawrence, 1998 UK, UNEP Conference said ..."Participating in a UN advocated planning process would very likely bring out many... who would actively work to defeat any elected official... undertaking Local Agenda 21/Sustainable Development.  So, we call our process something else such as "comprehensive planning," 'growth management' or 'smart growth.'" http://www.unedforum.org/publications/millennium/mill%20paper2.pdf

Translation:  They will lie to you & deceive you so YOU won't know what they are really doing. This meeting is free & open to the public.                                Please come, listen and bring a friend

Cut Cap Balance Pledge

Targeting US Oil & Gas producers for new taxes and the   Cut, Cap and Balance pledge:

We'll start off by encouraging you to contact members of Congress on a couple of fiscal issues.

As preposterous as it may seem to all of us who worked for and voted to send a clear message, Congress continues to discuss including new taxes as part of the overall debt limit and deficit reduction debate.  Surrounding these talks are proposals to eliminate tax deductions for U.S. energy companies (except the politically correct "green" energy producers and suppliers), some of our largest job producers.  Specifically, Democrats have proposed to change "dual capacity rules" and also to eliminate Section 199 of the tax code.  The dual capacity proposal would result in the double-taxing of domestic energy producers and hurt their ability to compete overseas.  Repealing Section 199 effectively amounts to an unfair tax hike, raising the tax rate for domestic oil and gas companies while the rest of the manufacturing sector continues to benefit from the deduction.

Senator Toomey understands that increasing taxes in an uncertain economy is irresponsible and that the debate should instead focus on decreasing spending. Levying taxes on only these companies serves only to hamper job growth, chill capital investment and harm energy security and national security.  Please contact Senator Toomey in his Washington, D.C. office at 202-224-4254 to thank him for his support.

The  Cut, Cap and Balance pledge is an effort being championed by Let Freedom Ring and Senator Jim DeMint.   The Kitchen Table Patriots along with nearly 200 other organizations have lent their name to support this effort and we are encouraging everyone to go to their website and sign the pledge.  The following is from their site:

Despite our nation's staggering $14.4 trillion debt, there are many Members of the U.S. House and Senate who want to raise our nation's debt limit without making permanent reforms in our fiscal policies.

We believe that this is a fiscally irresponsible position that would place America on the Road to Ruin. At the same time, we believe that the current debate over raising the debt limit provides a historic opportunity to focus public attention, and then public policy, on a path to a balanced budget and paying down our debt.

We believe that the "Cut, Cap, Balance" plan for substantial spending cuts in FY 2012, a statutory spending cap, and Congressional passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution is the minimum necessary precondition to raising the debt limit. The ultimate goal is to get us back to a point where increases in the debt limit are no longer necessary.

If you agree, take the Cut, Cap, Balance Pledge! There are versions for elected officials, federal candidates and ordinary citizens.

Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey has already signed on along with Representatives Rep Mike Kelly (PA3) and Thomas Marino (PA10). Keep calling your senators and congressmen let them know you stand behind them and either thank them for signing on or encourage them to do so.  Let them hear how you feel and make suggestions. We need to call them not only to tell them when we catch them doing something wrong, but also when we catch them doing something RIGHT.  They need to hear from all of us to know they are not alone in this battle!!

True The Vote: Elections - Free and Fair

True the Vote : In the very near future, we will be hosting an event to present a project to help insure the integrity of our electoral process.  This is a genuine non-partisan issue.  Win or lose candidates for office should be able to rely on the officials who oversee the polls on Election Day so that every legitimate vote is counted.  True the Vote is an initiative developed by citizens for citizens, to inspire and equip volunteers for involvement at every stage of our electoral process and to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation.  We are looking for people to come to learn about this effort and to get involved in making sure that we have valid elections.  Let us know if you want to get involved early to help with this project.  We will send out a follow-up newsletter when we have a firm date for the presentation.

Glenn Beck Restoring Courage - Israel

Glenn Beck Restoring Courage Viewing Party : On Wednesday, August 24 we will be streaming the event at The Moose and we're inviting everyone to come down and share this together.  Many of us went to the Restoring Honor event last year and we were deeply moved by the day's events.  Being with others we know made this even more special.  Although we are not going to travel to Israel, we are hoping that we can recreate that atmosphere here in Bucks County.  We are still in the development stages of this event and would like to hear your suggestions on how to have it work out.  And if you can help with the planning, set up and the break down, please let us know.  These events are even more special when you are part of the effort to make it come off well for everyone who comes.  Be sure to invite your friends and family to come as well.  This would be a great opportunity to meet other patriots and meet some new ones.

About Phyllis Schlafly

Phyllis Schlafly has been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her best-selling 1964 book, A Choice Not An Echo. She has been a leader of the pro-family movement since 1972, when she started her national volunteer organization now called Eagle Forum.

In a ten-year battle, Mrs. Schlafly led the pro-family movement to victory over the principal legislative goal of the radical feminists, called the Equal Rights Amendment. An articulate and successful opponent of the radical feminist movement, she appears in debate on college campuses more frequently than any other conservative. She was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by the Ladies' Home Journal.

Mrs. Schlafly is a lawyer and served as a member of the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution, 1985-1991, appointed by President Reagan. She has testified before more than 50 Congressional and State Legislative committees on constitutional, national defense, and family issues.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

  • maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
  • provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

  • Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
  • If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
  • And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

John Bolton, Former UN Ambassador

Friends,

Thousands of Americans took time to listen to Daniel Hannan's forceful, principled remarks  in last week's interview, and many of you are buzzing about one of his more stunning comments: "There's never been a worse time to be a traditional friend to the United States."

Hannan's stirring explanation is sad but true. If you missed it, or if you want to recommend it to a friend, the  archive of all our interviews is readily available at The Daily Caller.

This week I continued a similar discussion with John Bolton , another leader and friend who understands American ideals. We discussed America's standing in the world, and why she must continue to be a beacon for liberty and prosperity. John has served the United States as ambassador to the United Nations and as undersecretary of state. He's an author, a lawyer and a policymaker of tremendous character. I hope you'll join me for the interview.

Listen to John Bolton explain:

§  His critiques of both Presidents Bush and Obama

§  His thoughts about running for president

§  How targeted cuts in foreign affairs spending could aid America's budget crisis

§  How national sovereignty and American exceptionalism are being threatened

Next week: Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican

I hope you will share John Bolton's interview with your friends and encourage them to subscribe to this series. And I hope you'll share your reactions with me personally.

Cheers,

Ginni

Glenn Beck Visits Knesset

Glenn Beck Visits Knesset

On Monday, Glenn addressed the Knesset, the legislative branch of Israel. Glenn was introduced by Knesset member Danny Danon of the Likud party, who welcomed Glenn saying, "(I am) glad to host a friend of the State of Israel... Usually we don't clap here in the Knesset, but maybe we can do that at the end."

The Jerusalem Post reports:

Beck discussed how the shocking reality of Israeli everyday life, under constant threat of terrorism, does not prevent the public from living their lives comfortably and casually.

In his classic simplified yet brazen style, the pundit explained "the few things I actually know" about Israel:

1) The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is about destruction of Israel and the west.

2) Anti-semitism is going to go through the roof. When these conditions appear, it's always the Jews fault. It's not about the holocaust, (that's) just the latest in a string of events thousands of years. Holocaust is just the one they made a movie about. It was the same way all the time.

3) The world is about to change, so think differently. Everything you thought you can count on, forget about it, (and) create new systems.

4) The truth shall set you free.

Beck then explained that his plan for Israel advocacy is based on communal outreach. "If you go to a synagogue, reach out to a church. If you go to a church, reach out to a JCC. Say, will you watch this with me? After that we'll talk and eat and get to know one another."

UPDATED: The Blaze has additional coverage of the event  here

Fellow Patriots,

Do you remember the early phase of Mr. Obama's presidency, when he blamed America's poor relations with the Islamic world on his predecessors, particularly George W. Bush?  Based on Obama's rhetoric, his new policy was to "re-set" relations with the Islamic world through a number of major overtures, including a monumental address to from Cairo, Egypt, and a huge olive branch extended to Iran, as defined by his announcement that:

I would like to speak directly to the people and leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran...Over many centuries your art, your music, literature and innovation have made the world a better and more beautiful place...We know that you are a great civilization, and your accomplishments have earned the respect of the United States and the world... For nearly three decades relations between our nations have been strained...With the coming of a new season, we're reminded of this precious humanity that we all share. And we can once again call upon this spirit as we seek the promise of a new beginning.

(see video of Obama's entire (3-minute) address to the leaders of Iran:

From Barack Obama to Iran With Love - A New Year, A New Beginning
From Barack Obama to Iran With Love - A New Year, A New Beginning

or see transcript at http://blog.beliefnet.com/cityofbrass/2009/03/transcript-obamas-nowruz-messa.html )

So, how has President Obama's theory of self-blame for our strained relations with the Islamic world, worked out?  In Iran, the leaders slapped down Obama's outreached hand so hard its surprising that his arm didn't appear like a victim one of Iran's rockets used by Iraqi militants.

And now the Obama Administration is taking a stance against Iran far more aggressive than Bush ever conceived, following an Iranian-supplied rocket attack on the Green Zone during a visit by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

Given how publicly Obama blamed the Bush Administration for America's problems with Iran, it's doubtful that he will ever acknowledge how terribly wrong he was about the true source of conflict.

However, when Obama starts referring to Iran as being part of the "Axis of Evil," we should take it as an admission...

US vows unilateral action targeting Iranian arms to Iraq militants

Three rockets hit Green Zone as Defense Secretary Leon Panetta visits Baghdad

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Monday that the U.S. is concerned about Iran providing weapons to Iraq militants and will take unilateral action when needed to deal with the threat.

"We're very concerned about Iran and the weapons they're providing to extremists in Iraq," he told a small group of soldiers on his first visit to Iraq as Pentagon chief. He is there to meet with Iraqi leaders to discuss the possibility of keeping some U.S. troops in Iraq beyond 2011.

"We cannot sit back and simply allow this to continue to happen," he added. "This is not something we're going to walk away from. It's something we're going to take on head-on."

It is time to assess how American relations with the Islamic world have fared since the historic address given by President Obama from Cairo two years ago.

I would not call Obama's overture to the Islamic world a failure.  The term "failure" is simply inadequate to describe the harm Obama's policies have effected.

Take all of the worst results of President Carter's attempts to engage Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini while throwing the Shah under a bus and multiply them by 8 (Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, Pakistan, and Iran), and one gets a sense of the complete and utter DISASTER we are witnessing.

It is altogether likely that relations between the United States and these countries will spin completely out of control, and other countries could topple to Islamists as well.  While Obama can take consolation not having anything to do with the complete breakdown of relations with Iran, what will he say when they develop a nuclear bomb?

I'm sure that Hosni Mubarak, now imprisoned, laments the day he welcomed President Obama to speak to the Ummah (the global community of Muslims) from his capital of Cairo.  I do too, and it is likely that many of the people living in North Africa and the Middle East will also, as chaos, repression, and poverty plunges the entire region into a new Islamic Dark Age.  Let us not again allow this Dark Age to spread to the West, as happened so many centuries ago.

Please spread the word,

Dave

Clinton: Syria's Assad has lost legitimacy to rule

Tensions rise after loyalist mobs attack US, French embassies in capital

Syrian government supporters smashed windows at the U.S. Embassy in Damascus on Monday, raised a Syrian flag and scrawled graffiti calling the American ambassador a "dog" in anger over the envoy's visit last week to an opposition stronghold, witnesses said. No casualties were reported.

French Embassy security guards in the capital fired in the air to hold back supporters of President Bashar Assad's regime who were also protesting the French ambassador's visit to the same city, Hama, in central Syria. Protesters smashed embassy windows and shattered the windshield of a diplomatic SUV outside the compound. The French flag was removed and replaced with a Syrian one.

"God, Syria and Bashar. The nation that gave birth to Bashar Assad will not kneel," read graffiti written outside the embassy.

London is a Shariah-Controlled Zone

A reader in London just sent us the following photo, which is fairly self-explanatory:

He included this note:

Please see attached a poster seen stuck on to a bus stop on corner of Mission Grove and Carisbrooke Road, London E17. Signs of subtlety in the message - avoiding items that might be thought of as controversial like killing homosexuals and stuffing women in bags.

I've extracted the poster from the image and removed the foreshortening to make a more readable copy:

 Act! for America

July 11, 2011

Newspaper's smear of ACT! for America laced with lies, fabrications, and distortions

Please take action below!

Yesterday, The Tennessean newspaper ran a story by Bob Smietana that is so laced with lies, fabrications and distortions we determined we had no choice but to respond to it.

You can read the "yellow journalism" smear piece for yourself here.

Space does not allow us to respond to every fabrication or distortion in the story, so we will focus on the most egregious. At the end of this email we ask you to take action!

Item #1: Distortion

Smietana opens the story with this:

"ACT! for America sums up its mission in four words: "They must be stopped."

"The "they" in question are Muslims..."

Smietana takes the name of Brigitte Gabriel's best-selling book to claim that this means ACT! for America's mission is to "stop" Muslims, bluntly implying that we believe all Muslims are engaged in a "stealthy jihad" and thus that all Muslims must be stopped.

FACT: The subtitle of Brigitte's book states what "they" is referring to, "Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It."

FACT: ACT! for America does not believe, nor advocate, that all Muslims are engaged in stealth jihad. ACT! for America does not believe, nor advocate, that all Muslims "must be stopped."

The truth is that ACT! for America works with and helps promote the efforts of reformist Muslims, such as Dr. Tawfik Hamid, Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, and others. Dr. Hamid, a guest on the ACT! for America TV show, has praised the work of ACT! for America and provided us a quote for our website. The mission of ACT! for America is to combat the ideology of radical Islam and those who advocate it.

  Item #2: Lie

Later in the piece Smietana writes:

"Critics say ACT distorts the nature of Islam and labels law-abiding Muslims as terrorists."

There is no other way to respond to this than to call this a lie.

FACT: ACT! for America does not "label law-abiding Muslims as terrorists." This is a classic smear technique used in yellow journalism, to refer to some unnamed "critics" who make some unsubstantiated accusations, in order to smear the organization without Smietana directly saying it himself.

  Item #3: Lie

In a lengthy section about Brigitte's personal life, Smietana writes:

"She married a co-worker named Charles Tudor, a former cameraman for Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's Praise the Lord television show."

  This is a lie.

FACT: Brigitte's husband has never worked for Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's Praise the Lord television show.

  Item #4: Fabrication

Smietana writes:

"Page Brooks, assistant professor of theology and Islamic studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, said ACT! For America confuses radical Islam with the more moderate mainstream version of the faith"

This is intended to reinforce the distortion noted in Item #1 and the lie noted in Item #2.

FACT: If what Brooks was saying was true, why would ACT! for America work with and promote the efforts of reformist Muslims and repeatedly acknowledge that many Muslims do not support jihad and the imposition of sharia law?

On several occasions over the past 18 months we have emailed articles to our national list by reformist Muslims such as Dr. Hamid and Dr. Jasser. It is clear Smietana closely follows what we do, so surely he knows this-so he would know that the statement by Brooks is a fabrication.

As egregious as these lies, fabrications and distortions are, Smietana goes further and exposes Brigitte Gabriel's real name, names her husband, and identifies the city in which they live. In fact, he uses her actual last name no fewer than six times in the piece, instead of referring to her by her nationally known pseudonym. How was exposing Brigitte like this relevant to this story?

There is a simple reason why Brigitte uses a pseudonym: the board of ACT voted in 2003 to require her to do so in order that she would enjoy some level of protection. This is not a misplaced concern. She has received death threats. We know that al Qaeda has written about Brigitte several different times on its website. Surely Smietana must know that al Qaeda has done this. Surely Smietana must know that Theo van Gogh was killed by a jihadist in the Netherlands.

Today, al Jazeerah picked up a press release posted by CAIR which refers to the story-so now the entire Muslim world that has access to the radical al Jazeerah "media outlet" will know the details about Brigitte's real name and city of residence.

Surely Smietana must have known something like this would happen. We are thus compelled to ask, is he so driven by an agenda other than journalism that he would expose Brigitte's name and city deliberately to expose her to danger? Only he knows the answer to that question.

Bob Smietana has written a string of articles over the past many months that have clearly revealed his reporting is, to put it charitably, "factually challenged." It is difficult not to conclude that Smietana sees his "reporting" on this issue, not as journalism seeking to uncover the truth and report facts, but as a mission to smear, silence and even recklessly endanger those who would dare to speak out against the threat of radical Islam.

Former White House staffer fights Obama obesity efforts

Maoist Anita Dunn working for the fast food industry

Foodmakers, fast-food chains, and media companies have teamed up to battle government efforts to create voluntary nutritional guidelines for foods marketed to children, The Washington Post reports Sunday. And the group is being managed by former White House communications director Anita Dunn.

The group, called the Sensible Food Policy Coalition, includes General Mills, Kellogg, PepsiCo, and Time Warner. Disclosure records show they spent $6.6 million on lobbying in the first quarter of this year, and the members of the group collectively have spent nearly $60 million on lobbying since the start of the Obama administration, the newspaper reports.

Obscure clause may help US avert default

Libs still talking 14th amendment

The White House could resort to an little-known line in the US constitution to prevent a ruinous default if Democrats and Republicans do not agree to raise the debt ceiling by August 2, experts say.

The 143-year-old clause, written to address still-potent divisions after the bloody Civil War, has been dredged up by legal scholars as well as the US Treasury secretary to suggest how a debt debacle might be avoided.

Poll: Dealers expect unemployment to ease through '12

Economists expect big hiring before Obama re-election

Economists at top financial institutions expect the U.S. unemployment rate to fall in 2011 and 2012 despite a surprisingly weak jobs report on Friday, a Reuters poll found on Friday.

Though the economists at primary dealers are calling for unemployment to remain at historically high levels through 2012, they ascribe only a 20 percent chance of the Federal Reserve undertaking another stimulus program of Treasuries purchases in the next two years, the poll found.

Banks start easing standards for credit cards

Here's the next govt orchestrated disaster

Banks are gradually starting to modify their underwriting standards, thus making it easier for consumers to obtain a line of credit than it has been for the past three years, according to the most recent annual study released from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Looks like the perfect time for eager borrowers hoping for a new piece of plastic to tuck inside their wallet to start filling out those credit card applications.

The authors of the study wrote that, "for the first time since the 2008 survey, 25 percent of banks offering credit cards have eased their underwriting standards, primarily in response to changes in economic outlook, the competitive environment, market strategy and regulatory policy. The principal methods of easing credit card underwriting standards were reducing score card cutoffs and increasing maximum line size."

Fallacies Of Economic Equality That Promote Poverty

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published July 7, 2011 on Forbes.com.

"The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General."

So began Kurt Vonnegut's 1961 short story "Harrison Bergeron," published in the volume Welcome to the Monkey House. In that brave, new world, the government forced each individual to wear "handicaps" to offset any advantage they had, so that everyone could be truly and fully equal. Beautiful people had to wear ugly masks to hide their good looks. The strong had to wear compensating weights to slow them down. Graceful dancers were burdened with bags of birdshot. Those with above average intelligence had to wear government transmitters in their ears that would emit sharp noises every 20 seconds, shattering their thoughts "to keep them... from taking unfair advantage of their brains."

Constitutional Conservatism Ready for Prime Time

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski and ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell was published July 6, 2011 on The Huffington Post.

Liberal pundits are panicking over constitutional conservatism. They shouldn't, because every child -- whether the parents are liberal or conservative -- will benefit from constitutional conservatism's ascendency. If America elects a constitutional conservative president and Congress in 2012, we'll move forward as a freedom-loving nation.

Several outlets on the Left -- such as The New Republic -- are raising an alarm about this disturbing new term, saying that it's secret code for "absolutists" and "zealots" on economic issues, overturning Roe v. Wade, and implying that constitutional conservatives are segregationists bent on creating a theocracy.

As two constitutional conservatives who wrote a new book on the issue, we'll correct the record on defining constitutional conservatism, how it now dominates Republican politics, and why America needs it so desperately.

Obamacare Tragedy Primed To Further Explode the Deficit

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published July 6, 2011 on The American Spectator website.

President Obama bludgeoned Obamacare through Congress on the claim, backed by CBO, that it would not add to the deficit, even though it adopts or wildly expands three entitlement programs. As I discuss in my new book, America's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb, close analysis of the CBO score and additional new data indicates that, quite to the contrary, Obamacare will likely add $4 to $6 trillion to the deficit over its first 20 years, and possibly more.

Of course, the deficit is not the biggest problem. Even bigger is that regardless of the deficit, Obamacare involves trillions of increased government spending and taxes. Worst of all is that it involves a loss of control over, and the quality of, our own health care. All of this is ultimately a tragedy because as my book also explains, the uninsured could all easily be covered without any individual or employer mandate for just a small fraction of the cost of Obamacare, as discussed below.

Gross Media Ignorance

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published July 6, 2011 on Townhall.com.

There's little that's intelligent or informed about Time magazine editor Richard Stengel's article "One Document, Under Siege" (June 23, 2011). It contains many grossly ignorant statements about our Constitution. If I believed in conspiracies, I'd say Stengel's article is part of a leftist agenda to undermine respect for the founding values of our nation.

Stengel says:

"The framers were not gods and were not infallible. Yes, they gave us, and the world, a blueprint for the protection of democratic freedoms -- freedom of speech, assembly, religion -- but they also gave us the idea that a black person was three-fifths of a human being, that women were not allowed to vote and that South Dakota should have the same number of Senators as California, which is kind of crazy. And I'm not even going to mention the Electoral College."

Congressman Fitzpatrick Demands Senate Budget Action

800 days of inaction marked by increased spending and higher unemployment

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick today demanded that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid take the necessary measures to pass a fiscally responsible budget.  A letter, being sent by Fitzpatrick and colleagues to Senator Reid, calls for the Senate to adjust its summer calendar to ensure consideration and passage of a budget proposal prior to the start of the next fiscal year in September.

"Today marks 800 days since the Democrat-controlled United States Senate has passed a budget.  Our nation's economy is sputtering, out-of-control spending continues unabated, and the unemployment rate is on the rise," said Fitzpatrick.  "The House of Representatives has been considering and passing appropriations bills that recognize our fiscal reality and fund our nation's priorities.  Meanwhile, Senator Reid has repeatedly failed to pass a budget, take meaningful action on spending cuts, and act on important reforms sent to him by the House.  American families don't get 800 days to figure out how or if they are going to pay their bills, and neither should Senator Reid."

Fitzpatrick hasalso cosponsored legislation which will effectively defund House and Senate Budget Committees and leadership offices responsible for passage of a budget resolution in the event that they fail to act.  The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 requires each house of Congress to pass a concurrent resolution on the budget every year.  The House has fulfilled its obligation to produce a budget for the upcoming fiscal year, yet the Senate has failed to approve all budgetary measures passed by the House.

"With no responsible budget in place, economic uncertainty is hindering job creation and is slowing our recovery," said Fitzpatrick, "This letter to Senator Reid demonstrates the House's commitment to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities and placing our nation on the path to economic prosperity."

The text of the letter is below:

Majority Leader Harry Reid

S-221, The Capitol

Washington, DC 20510

Dear Leader Reid:

As the House of Representatives works through the Appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2012, we are encouraged by the progress that the House has made - both in the Appropriations Committee and on the House floor.  Unlike the 111th Congress, we have fulfilled our constitutional responsibilities by passing a budget, one that reduces spending, creates jobs, reins in cost-driving programs, and ultimately eliminates the debt. We have shown our strong commitment to set the nation's course towards fiscal stability, and to do so in a responsible time frame.

Yet, as we look ahead, we are deeply concerned with the lack of progress in the Senate.  As Majority Leader, you have not brought any of the appropriations bills passed by the House this year up for consideration. While the House is on track to complete all 12 appropriations bills prior to the start of the fiscal year on September 30, the Senate has failed to produce a budget or consider these appropriations bills, which will inevitably result in yet another Continuing Resolution- perhaps even the threat of a government shutdown that we experienced earlier this year.  Given that pervasive uncertainty is holding back job creation, we believe a change in your summer calendar is necessary.

As it stands now, the Senate will recess during the month of August and reconvene on September 6 - just over three weeks before the fiscal year begins. At the pace the Senate is progressing, this is not nearly enough time for Congress to consider and, ideally, pass the bills prior to the start of the fiscal year.  Therefore, we ask that you keep the Senate in session throughout August so that you can pass a budget and complete the pending appropriations bills sent to you from the House. We stand ready to stay in session if necessary.

While being with constituents is absolutely essential to providing effective representation, the profound fiscal challenges facing our country call for timely, decisive action.  The roadblock is clearly the Senate.  We encourage you to keep the Senate in session in August, which would show that the Senate schedule reflects the challenges facing our country.    It would also be a clear, and we believe, welcomed signal to the American people that the nation's leaders are wisely leading America to a stronger fiscal path.

Obama, You Leave Me No Choice!

GROUP TO SUE OBAMA AND HIS CORRUPT REGIME FOR CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS

by Ron Ewart, ©2011

Does every American have the right to file a civil rights lawsuit against Obama and members of his regime for his abuse of power?  If so, how many will do so?

(Jul. 10, 2011) - "There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty."  -  John Quincy Adams

It has been stated with certainty, and history has confirmed, that America is a nation of laws and not of men.  It was purposely designed that way by the Framers of our Constitution to protect individual liberty.  Millions of brave men and women have paid the ultimate price to maintain that legacy.  But, oh, how times do change when the people aren't paying attention.

Rep. Ron Paul Won't Touch Obama Eligibility Question

JUST LIKE ALL THE REST

July 10, 2011

Ron Paul is a medical doctor, was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s, and has served Texas's 14th Congressional District since 1997

Dear Editor:

Recently I contacted Congressman Ron Paul about the Obama eligibility issue.  His response was as follows:

Subject: Reply from Rep. Paul

Dear Mr. Sorensen:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding Barack Obama. My staff has researched the issue of his citizenship. Our research has led us to conclude that the state of Hawaii has issued a valid birth certificate showing that Barack Obama was born in the United States.

Of course, I remain committed to fighting for limited, constitutional government, and I am actively opposing President Obama's big government agenda. Thank you again for contacting my office. Please feel free to do so in the future with any other questions, comments, or suggestions.

Sincerely,

Ron Paul

And my response to him was:

Dear Representative Ron Paul:

A Natural Born Citizen is one that is not only born on American Soil but also of two CITIZEN PARENTS. Obama's parents were NOT CITIZENS. In addition, Obama was adopted, name changed to Barry Soetoro and given Foreign Citizenship. Obama is NOT Constitutionally qualified to hold the Office of President of the United States.

The Hawaiian Certificates of Live Birth that Obama has provided have been determined to be forgeries. In addition, Obama is using a stolen Social Security Number today which was also used on his forged Selective Service Application.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought Identity Theft, using another's Social Security Number and Forgery were Criminal Felonies. Certainly Representative Ron Paul and your Public Service Tax Paid Staff wouldn't be involved in a criminal cover-up?

I am anxiously awaiting your response.

A Disparity in Power is Not a Disparity in Morals

A disparity in power is not a disparity in morals. This truth is the dynamite under the edifice of the left which insists that the poor are more moral than the rich and that a nation's moral worth can be measured in inverse proportion to its per capita income. The debate is not merely one of wealth. It is less about the morality of wealth, than about the moral cost of assuming that to be poor or deprived is to be good.

Deprivation is not morality. That is why the class and racial divisions of the left are sociological and cultural, but not moral.

When America freed its slaves, a number of them moved to Liberia, and began to treat the native population in the same way that the Spanish, the Belgians and other European colonizers had. Even though both the natives and the colonists were 'black'-- Liberian history looks a lot like the history of most colonies.

The Obama recovery

"There's no good way to spin the news that came out of [Friday's] monthly U.S. jobs report. The economy generated only 18,000 total new jobs, the unemployment rate increased to 9.2 percent, and the number of unemployed Americans has gone up by 445,000. In other words, the recovery appears to have slowed markedly. President Barack Obama's stimulus-infused 'recovery' refuses to ignite, unsurprisingly to all but him. And to make matters worse, May's paltry job growth numbers were revised even farther downward, from the initial estimate of 54,000 to 25,000. Sadly, the record continues -- the Obama recovery remains the weakest recovery of the post-World War II era. In past recessions, employment fully recovered within two to three years. Today, U.S. job growth is stopped dead in its tracks. If you want a comparison of what job growth could look like, go back to the 1980s' Reagan recovery. By the 20-month mark, the unemployment rate had dropped from 10.8 percent to 7.5 percent -- a 3.3-point drop. In contrast, under Obama, the unemployment rate has risen a full percentage point to today's 9.2 percent. ... The pace of America's economic recovery is unacceptable, and it's being made worse by the Obama Administration's adherence to a flawed philosophy of relying on government to do the work of the private sector." --Heritage Foundation's Mike Brownfield

Re: The Left

"Obama has run disastrous annual deficits of around $1.5 trillion while insisting for months on a 'clean' debt-ceiling increase, i.e., with no budget cuts at all. Yet suddenly he now rises to champion major long-term debt reduction, scorning any suggestions of a short-term debt-limit deal as can-kicking. The flip-flop is transparently political. A short-term deal means another debt-ceiling fight before Election Day, a debate that would put Obama on the defensive and distract from the Mediscare campaign to which the Democrats are clinging to save them in 2012. A clever strategy it is: Do nothing (see above); invite the Republicans to propose real debt reduction first; and when they do -- voting for the Ryan budget and its now infamous and courageous Medicare reform -- demagogue them to death. And then up the ante by demanding Republican agreement to tax increases. ... And what have been Obama's own debt-reduction ideas? In last week's news conference, he railed against the tax break for corporate jet owners -- six times. I did the math. If you collect that tax for the next 5,000 years -- that is not a typo -- it would equal the new debt Obama racked up last year alone. ... Obama's other favorite debt-reduction refrain is canceling an oil-company tax break. Well, if you collect that oil tax and the corporate jet tax for the next 50 years -- you will not yet have offset Obama's deficit spending for February 2011." --columnist Charles Krauthammer

Essential Liberty

"Opportunity only flourishes upon uncertain terrain. The government's job should be to reduce the artificial uncertainty generated by its own actions. Free people should not have to worry about being crushed by the State, or watch their commercial triumphs washed away by huge subsidies to their defeated competitors. ... No one is free unless everyone is. That means you cannot make demands upon your neighbors that you are not willing to reciprocate. It means the burden of financing our government should be shared by everyone, not lumped upon small populations that can be easily out-voted. It means that people are accountable for their actions. It is the reason a free people should embrace charity, but deny entitlement. The Declaration of Independence announced the glory of American liberty by advancing three self-evident truths. The never-ending struggle to retain that liberty involves combining those truths to produce an endless series of denials. The allure of government control and dependency is great, so every free man and woman should be prepared to spend a lifetime saying 'no.'" --columnist John Hayward

Insight

"Men naturally rebel against the injustice of which they are victims. Thus, when plunder is organized by law for the profit of those who make the law, all the plundered classes try somehow to enter -- by peaceful or revolutionary means -- into the making of laws. According to their degree of enlightenment, these plundered classes may propose one of two entirely different purposes when they attempt to attain political power: Either they may wish to stop lawful plunder, or they may wish to share in it." --French economist, statesman, and author Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)

The Gipper

"Without timely expression and emphatic endorsement, our own belief in the principles of human freedom and representative government must eventually atrophy and wither." --Ronald Reagan

Political Futures

"What brilliant good it can do a country when the world respects, and will not forget, one of its leaders. What was vividly true 30 years ago is true today: The world looks to America. It doesn't want to be patronized or dominated by America, it wants to see America as a beacon, an example, a dream of what could be. And the world wants something else: American goodness. It wants to have faith in the knowledge that America is the great nation that tries to think about and act upon right and wrong, and that it is a beacon also of things practical -- how to have a sturdy, good, unsoiled economy, how to create jobs that provide livelihoods that allow families to be formed, how to maintain a system in which inventors and innovators can flourish. ... These are the thoughts that follow eight days of celebration, in Eastern Europe and London, of the leadership of Ronald Reagan. History is rarely sweet, but it was last week when they raised statues of him in his centenary year. People old and young stopped for a moment to think and speak of him, and to define what his leadership meant to them and their countries. The celebrations in Krakow, Budapest, Prague and London were a reminder that we are all traveling through history together, that you are living not only your own life but the life of your times, as Laurens van der Post once said. And your era can actually be affected, made better, by what you do." --columnist Peggy Noonan

Opinion in Brief

"Can we move past race and gender and simply elect the best American for the job? Due to liberal media manipulation and guilt, America elected an incompetent black guy as leader of the free world to prove that we are not racist. Obama's black skin has made him untouchable, the left's dream tool to further their socialist agenda. ... Obama got 96% of the black vote [in the 2008 election] with surveys proving that many blacks were clueless about Obama's intentions.... Call me crazy, but if it 'ain't' right for whites to vote for the white guy because he is white, it 'ain't' right for blacks to vote for the black guy because he is black. Yes, we blacks have suffered greatly in the past due to racism. But to exploit America's original sin of slavery as a license for black racist behavior is a slap in the face to MLK and all who have sacrificed, suffered, and died to move us forward and together as a nation." --singer, songwriter and columnist Lloyd Marcus

For the Record

"[H]ow many times have we heard the mantra that communism and Nazism represented the two extremes of the political spectrum, left and right, respectively? This never made sense to me, as I knew that conservatism championed political and economic liberty and that communism and fascism were the direct antithesis of these. ... Both communism and Nazism are evil totalitarian systems characterized by enormous power in the central government. ... Apart from being centralized political systems, Nazism and fascism were nationalistic, patriotic and militaristic. ... The Soviet system was more international in its orientation, being driven less by national fervor and more by world expansion. ... Communism, as conceived by Marx, was based on the perceived class struggle. Marx envisioned that the 'workers of the world' would unite against so-called capitalist oppression. Marxism was thoroughly materialistic and rooted in class warfare. Nazism was probably not so virulently anti-capitalist -- at least in terms of its ideological emphasis. It was more racially and nationally driven. ... The left's worst-kept secret is that many liberals believe -- or would at least like the electorate to believe -- that conservatives are racist. So there you have it. Conservatives are nationalistic, jingoistic and racist. Point, set, match. They're fascists. But it's as divorced from reality as it is sinister. Conservatives are driven by liberty and a healthy skepticism for centralized government. They aren't enemies of the federal government but believe it ought to be limited in its powers and scope, as contemplated and designed by the Constitution. They are the opposite of racists, aspiring to colorblindness and equality of opportunity and rights for everyone. We will proudly accept, however, the charge that we are nationalistic, patriotic and firm believers in American exceptionalism." --columnist David Limbaugh

Faith & Family

"In May, a Toronto couple made international news when they revealed what they're not revealing: the gender of their baby, Storm. Parents Kathy Witterick and David Stocker claim they want their baby to grow up free of the constraints gender identification implies. That way, despite the fact that the child is anatomically well-defined, Storm can decide his or her gender when he or she is old enough to make up his or her mind about what he or she wants to be. Suffice it to say, Storm's parents have created a pronoun problem, but that's likely to be the least of their child's long-term issues. ... '[E]arly gender socialization' is deemed unhealthy for children by powerful progressive organizations such as UNICEF, which defines 'gender socialization' as 'the process by which people learn to behave in a certain way, as dictated by societal beliefs, values, attitudes and examples.' UNICEF decries this process, noting that it begins even before a child is born when the community anticipates its arrival as a boy or girl. ... [W]e're about a half-generation away from preschools full of kids named Storm who can't tell you if they're little boys or little girls, not because they don't know but because they simply haven't decided yet." --columnist Marybeth Hicks

Culture

"According to a shocking news report, California legislators have enacted legislation that gives the state the dubious distinction of being the first state in the nation to require public schools to include the contributions of gays and lesbians in their social studies curriculum. ... The bill, SB 48, passed on a party-line vote, adds lesbian, gay, bisexual and so-called transgendered people as well as those with physical or mental disabilities to the list of groups that schools must include in the lessons. It also would prohibit material that reflects adversely on gays. ... It will prove instructive to see how the state's lawmakers go about the job of implementing this absurd legislation. ... The matter of the content of school textbooks has long been a controversial subject, but until now it has never reached the point where specific parts of the population are singled out for preferential treatment, especially when the segment of the population is distinguished solely by their sexual preferences." --columnist Michael Reagan

Reader Comments

90 Years of Red Chinese Tyranny was an excellent article! Thank you for the historical description of China's demise, its lost culture due to the communists take over. How sad when a nation is so oppressed and its leaders so bent on making everyone the 'same' that their myopic goal destroys the very thing that makes the country unique. Good thing we don't have that in the USA ... oh wait!" --Morning Glory

"This isn't a complaint as I think Friday's Digest summed up the current Republican contenders pretty well. It is however, a promise; I refuse to ever again hold my nose and cast a vote for somebody just because they're the lesser of two evils. If the Republicans can't do any better than Mitt Romney I will either stay home on Election Day or write in a candidate I can believe in, as is my right as a free citizen of this Republic. If that means we're all stuck with Obama for four more years then so be it." --Kathleen

"No complaints on your  assessment, I think you are spot on. Of the announced candidates, I am leaning toward Bachmann then Cain followed distantly with the others. I will probably support Perry if he gets in the race. My bottom line is to beat Obama in 2012 and I will support whoever the Republican nominee is!" --Ramona

"Mickey Mouse, Ronald McDonald, or Luke Skywalker would all be far better presidents than the traitorous hack that currently holds that position." --Zach

"Please give equal and/or fair time to Ron Paul's candidacy. He appears (to me) to be the only viable candidate that consistently considers the Constitution in his congressional decisions. I also believe he will be the only candidate to seriously tackle the national debt and spending spree by the federal government. I also believe Ron Paul is the only candidate capable of beating Obama." --Marshel

Editor's Reply: We appreciate Paul's work in the House, where he has an outstanding conservative record. However, our analysis is simply that he won't win the nomination, much less the general election. There are various reasons for that, but again, we're just calling it as we see it.

The Last Word

"Speaking, as we were, about Anthony Weiner, some people were terribly upset when they learned that in spite of the sordid circumstances leading to his resignation, he stands to collect over a million dollars from his congressional pension. At first, I, too, was outraged. But then it gave me an idea how we might finally put an end to congressmen and senators growing old on the job. Years ago, I recall that a concert of composer John Cage's pain-in-the-ear music was held in New York City. What made it noteworthy was that tickets sold for five dollars, but for every hour a person could endure the pain, he would get a dollar back. If the poor saps remained for the entire concert, it would cost them nothing but their sanity. So, how about if members of Congress receive 100% of their pension if they quit after one term, but only 50% if they stick it out for a second, and nothing after that? What, I ask you, could possibly improve Congress more than installing a revolving door?" --columnist Burt Prelutsky

Republican Deals With Obama Are Killing Us
By Floyd and Mary Beth Brown, FloydReports.com

Writing a syndicated column in 2011 is night and day different from when we started writing for publication in the 1990's. The overriding change is the volume and immediacy of feedback. In the 1990's we would receive the occasional letter applauding or challenging our thesis, facts and motives. Today we find our email inbox and comment sections so full it is difficult to read it all.

We take our readers seriously, and even if we don't personally respond, we read and ponder their many times insightful thoughts. Ironically, as hard as we work to provide clarity through our own words, sometimes they fail to accurately convey our passion and hopes for America.

After last week's column was posted, we were accused of hoping for the collapse of the country. We couldn't be more misunderstood by a reader. We see collapse coming, and like Paul Revere we ride the countryside in the hope that the country will mobilize to meet the dangers.

Here are three reasons we are frightfully concerned about the future of the economy and country:

The first is the dedication of John Boehner to cutting deals with Barack Obama.....

Obama Sr. Bio Repackages Nativity Myth
By Jack Cashill, WND.com

Following the lead of the New Yorker's David Remnick and the New York Times' Janny Scott, the Boston Globe's Sally Jacobs chooses to duck the truth about President Obama's origins in her new biography, The Other Barack: The Bold and Reckless Life of President Obama's Father.

Like her fellow biographers, Jacobs labors to protect the foundational myth of President Obama's political ascendancy, in Remnick's words, "his own life as a reflection of a kind of multicultural ideal."

As the president tells the story, he was the product of an "improbable love" between....

Obama Imports Illegal Voters with Communicable Diseases
By Kevin "Coach" Collins, FloydReports.com

Obama's latest backdoor ICE amnesty will bring death to some innocent Americans; bank on that. By ordering ICE agents to virtually stop deporting illegal aliens Obama is importing fraudulent voters with serious diseases. He has deliberately placed us all in danger and said, "The American middle class can go to Hell."

Over the years, Democratic presidents have betrayed America to various degrees. A feckless John Kennedy double crossed CIA efforts to overthrow Castro; Carter gave away the Panama Canal and Clinton sold the Chinese secret missile technology. Now Barack Obama may have topped these dubious "achievements" by stepping up his war on the Middle Class and threatening our very lives in his lust for power.

Not content to tax us into numbing poverty and hopelessness, Obama is throwing our borders open to bring in fraudulent new Democrat voters without regard for the fact they are bringing deadly diseases with them....

California Kids to Get Gay School Indoctrination

Boehner Backs Away From Bad Deal

Thanks for taking action, friends! Speaker Boehner's office was deluged with calls and emails Friday. He got the message - as did other members of Congress.

Over the weekend we heard that a significant group of House Republicans met with Speaker Boehner late Friday. They told him to tread carefully, essentially arguing that it wouldn't help anyone if he agreed to a "big deal" with President Obama only to have few if any House Republicans vote for it.

That warning, plus your calls, led Boehner to think twice. He announced Saturday that he did not want to go down the route of a big $4 trillion deal. That was a good call, and here's why.

The "big deal" that Obama put on the table involved guaranteed tax hikes in exchange for spending cuts down the road. This is like Charlie Brown and Lucy. We've tried to kick this ball before only to have Democrats pull it away from us. Even Ronald Reagan fell for it.

In 1982 Reagan cut a deal with congressional Democrats to raise taxes. In exchange for every $1 in tax hikes, Democrats promised Reagan $3 in spending cuts. Taxes went up, but Democrats reneged on the spending cuts. Reagan later said that deal was the worst mistake of his presidency.

Today President Obama said that he would not accept a deal where he, as a wealthy individual, was not required to pay higher taxes. If Barack Obama and other liberals want to pay higher taxes, the IRS would gladly accept their donations! But why is Obama so desperate to tax everyone else?

As I argue in my Human Events column this week, Obama is a "taxaholic." Like many liberals, he is addicted to higher taxes and more spending. Republicans should not empower his addiction to big spending and big government.

Unfortunately, like most addicts, the president is still in denial. His policies have not worked. The stimulus bill failed. And his plan to tax us into prosperity won't work either. As this analysis shows, nations that have successfully balanced their budgets over the past four decades have done so relying on spending cuts, not tax increases.

Fighting The Liberal Spin

House Republicans are doing the right thing. But it is easy to understand why many Americans who aren't closely following the issue could be confused. The media are parroting Democrat talking points and spinning the debate to Obama's advantage. Here are some points to consider when speaking with friends and family members.

  • Remind anyone who wants to argue with you about the 2010 elections. Just seven months ago Republicans put up candidates in every congressional district across America who ran on a platform of lower taxes and less spending. On that platform they won more seats than any party in recent decades. And now the pundits are perplexed by the reluctance of conservatives to violate their promises by raising taxes. Republicans are doing exactly what they said they would do.
  • Obama claims that now is the time to get spending under control. At his press conference today, he repeatedly said, "If not now, when?" But it was Barack Obama who pushed through the stimulus bill and ObamaCare, a massive new entitlement program. Obama has added $3.7 trillion to the national debt in his first two and a half years in office. Now he acts as though he is the only one in Washington worried about spending.
  • His solution to this spending crisis is to raise taxes on "millionaires and billionaires." But, in fact, the tax hikes he's proposing reach far deeper. Even the Associated Press acknowledges that Obama's tax rhetoric is misleading. Consider this excerpt: "Proposals under consideration include raising taxes on small business owners and potentially low and middle-income families. You won't hear about that from Obama. Instead the president focuses on the very rich, and speaks euphemistically."
  • Obama's proposed tax increases are not enough to resolve his spending addiction. As we noted last week, the Tax Foundation estimated that tax rates would have to double, and in some cases triple, in order to bring Obama's budgets into balance. As Margaret Thatcher famously said, the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.
  • As the AP observes, Obama's proposals would hit small businesses - the major job-creating engine of the economy. No one in the administration can explain how raising taxes on small businesses will help those businesses to hire more people. Not that long ago even Obama admitted that raising taxes in a recession is "the last thing you want to do." But for socialists like Obama, raising taxes is not about sound economic policy, but rather about "fairness."
  • Obama is more interested in class warfare than jobs. Obama's administration is refusing to sell jets to Taiwan, which means billions in lost revenue for Lockheed Martin and lost American jobs. It has refused to authorize a new oil pipeline from Candida that could create as many as 100,000 new jobs. His EPA is imposing new regulations that will require some electricity plants to shut down. The unemployment rate today (9.2%) is higher than when Obama took office in January 2009 (7.2%). Obama is a one-man job-destroying machine.
  • As today's Wall Street Journal notes, Obama has already increased taxes by hundreds of billions of dollars thanks to ObamaCare. Now he is demanding at least $1 trillion on top of that!
  • Obama is accusing Republicans of risking a default and a financial catastrophe by holding the nation hostage to their "extreme ideological demands." In fact, it is the exact opposite. We have already demonstrated that tax increases won't produce jobs and won't balance the budget. So it is Obama who is risking a default over his extreme ideological demands when he threatens to veto any deal that does not raise taxes.

Bishops Battle On

In the days since the New York legislature legalized same-sex "marriage," New York's Catholic bishops have not given an inch. Nicholas DiMarzio, the bishop of Brooklyn, has effectively banned New York politicians from his parish. In a statement to all Catholic churches and schools in his diocese, Bishop DiMarzio instructed them "not to bestow or accept honors, nor to extend a platform of any kind to any state elected official ... for the foreseeable future."

Last week, Archbishop Timothy Dolan wrote about his fear that "this latest dilution of the authentic understanding of marriage" will inevitably lead to "another redefinition to justify multiple partners and infidelity." He's right. If society can no longer limit marriage to the union of one and one woman, on what legal basis can it "discriminate" against the love of one man and three women?

Archbishop Dolan also warned that religious liberty was at stake, writing, "If the experience of those few other states and countries where this is already law is any indication, the churches, and believers, will soon be harassed, threatened, and hauled into court for their conviction that marriage is between one man, one woman."

I applaud New York's Catholic leaders for continuing to "fight the good fight." The culture war is real. And its impact on religious liberty is a reminder to men and women of faith that elections have consequences.

America, the Europe of the West?

Last night, President Barack Obama and U.S. congressional leaders failed to reach agreement on a deal to raise the nation's debt limit. Meanwhile, it has been more than 800 days since the U.S. Senate passed a budget, liberals in Washington are pushing for higher taxes, unemployment is soaring, the deficit keeps growing, and America is careening toward an economic future as the Europe of the West.

Have You Heard Herman Cain's 1996 Gospel Album?

Herman CainWhen you toss your hat into the political ring, especially on a national level, the media and your opponents will scour your history looking for anything in your background that might give them an advantage. Back in 1996, Herman Cain recorded a gospel music album called "Sunday Morning" and it has just popped up on the Internet.

A Cain spokesperson confirmed to TPM the tracks are legitimate, and said they were released by an independent, pro-Cain website.

So, is this a good thing or a bad thing for the candidate? Before you decide, sample the music: HERE . . .

WATCH: Glenn stirs packed house at the Knesset

Glenn is in Israel this week preparing for the Restoring Courage event coming up next month and gave a crowd pleasing speech at the Knesset (Israeli Parliament). No one is more awake and aware of the threats to the Western way of life than the people of Israel, and that was on full display in Israel today as they jam packed the Knesset chamber. Glenn challenged the Israeli leaders to speak and stand for the truth - and even managed to work in a Matthew Broderick reference. How? Watch some of Glenn's speech HERE.

What does Glenn do on vacation?

As usual Glenn wasn't able to just hang around and relax over vacation. It was technically a vacation, but not what most people would consider 'relaxing.' Glenn was in Poland filming part of an upcoming documentary and has some incredibly moving -- and horrific -- pictures and stories to share including being inside a Nazi Germany picture. You can follow Glenn's journey exclusively at GlennBeck.com.

Glenn in Israel - but Stu is NOT

Stu has been getting grief for being a choking wuss bunny who is too afraid to go to Israel. So it should come as no surprise that Stu is NOT in Israel this week with Glenn. Agree with Stu? You can stand with Stu for Israel -- in America. Support Israel (and Stu) by getting the Stand with Stu t-shirt. Proceeds go to the Restoring Courage event. Want to attend a viewing party in your area for the big event? Get all the details HERE

Unemployment goes up... again

More bad news on the unemployment front as the jobs report was once again 'worse' than expected. Timothy Geithner had some amazing things to say about the economy and why unemployment is still lagging. You have to hear it to believe it. LISTEN

Keith Ellison: Conservatives hate working women

Keith Ellison came up with quite the statement recently, declaring that conservatives hate strong successful women - and instead would rather have them relegated to being barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. Glenn has the audio and reaction on radio today.
