Quote:
"It will not be denied that power is of an encroaching nature and that it ought to be effectually restrained from passing the limits assigned to it. After discriminating, therefore, in theory, the several classes of power, as they may in their nature be legislative, executive, or judiciary, the next and most difficult task is to provide some practical security for each, against the invasion of the others."

Want to File an IRS Complaint Against Media Matters? Click Here...
FoxNation | June 29, 2011
Media Matters for America is organized as a tax exempt 501(c)3 organization. Under IRS guidelines, they must abide by several rules to maintain this status. Specifically, 501(c)3 organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.
You can read an interesting article on this subject "Is Media Matters Breaking the law in its 'war' on Fox News?" The article strongly suggests that Media Matters is violating its exemption as an educational foundation by actively participating in partisan political activities. Specifically the IRS application for 501(C)(3) tax-exempt educational foundation status, Section VIII, Question I asks the applicant: "Do you support or oppose candidates in political campaigns in any way?" (Emphasis added).
The Internal Revenue Service has a complaint form 13909 Tax-Exempt Organization Complaint (Referral) Form that is one page in length. The form comes with easy to follow instructions and then can be mailed, faxed, or emailed to the IRS office.
I have taken the liberty to complete the initial heading of the form to include Media Matters for America's mailing address and tax ID number in order to assist any submitter with completing the complaint form. You may download this form HERE.
Read about IRS exemption requirements here.

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government. We have talked to all the power brokers. The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God. It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.
"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand. I ask you to join me. I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth. If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution. This is a people of faith solution. This is a people all over the world solution. I ask you to help get this word out."

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT
UN AGENDA 21
aka Local Agenda 21 & "sustainable development"
WILL SHOCK YOU!!!
Do you have a nagging feeling something is wrong, but you don't know exactly what? Who controls the US? Who writes our laws? Is it our elected officials or a higher organization like the UN? Do you know where our money comes from and how debt affects us?
Join us Saturday, July 23rd - 6pm PJ Ryan's 231 Bridge St., Phoenixville - private downstairs meeting room
There will be a discussion about UN Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, Property Rights & our Money. This meeting may help fill in some of the blanks that the media leaves out.
Agenda 21 is a plan that calls for international control & regulation of virtually every aspect of human activity that might impact the environment, which is essentially EVERYTHING YOU DO - eat, drink, cook, drive, play, work, and LIVE.
Maurice Strong, UN Secretary General - 1992 Rio de Janeiro United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) said "...Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class involving high meat consumption and large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and workplace air-conditioning, and suburban housing are NOT sustainable. So, what does he mean by NOT Sustainable? http://sovereignty.net/p/sd/strong.html
Translation: YOU will NO longer be allowed to have them.
J. Gary Lawrence, 1998 UK, UNEP Conference said ..."Participating in a UN advocated planning process would very likely bring out many... who would actively work to defeat any elected official... undertaking Local Agenda 21/Sustainable Development. So, we call our process something else such as "comprehensive planning," 'growth management' or 'smart growth.'" http://www.unedforum.org/publications/millennium/mill%20paper2.pdf
Translation: They will lie to you & deceive you so YOU won't know what they are really doing. This meeting is free & open to the public. Please come, listen and bring a friend.

About Phyllis Schlafly
Phyllis Schlafly has been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her best-selling 1964 book, A Choice Not An Echo. She has been a leader of the pro-family movement since 1972, when she started her national volunteer organization now called Eagle Forum.
In a ten-year battle, Mrs. Schlafly led the pro-family movement to victory over the principal legislative goal of the radical feminists, called the Equal Rights Amendment. An articulate and successful opponent of the radical feminist movement, she appears in debate on college campuses more frequently than any other conservative. She was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by the Ladies' Home Journal.
Mrs. Schlafly is a lawyer and served as a member of the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution, 1985-1991, appointed by President Reagan. She has testified before more than 50 Congressional and State Legislative committees on constitutional, national defense, and family issues.

RedState Morning Briefing
For July 7, 2011
1. Republicans Must Show They Will Shoot the Hostage
Does the party of freedom have less courage than the party of socialism? Jim DeMint thinks if the GOP fails to be bold in the debt ceiling fight that'll be why.
As the sun rises this morning, be prepared to be completely and totally disappointed in the total lack of leadership by House Republicans when it comes to taking a bold stand in the debt ceiling fight.
Just how badly are supposedly "tea party friendly" House Republicans abandoning conservatives? Olympia Snowe of Maine has gotten to the right of them. They should all break out the leather braids and self-flagellate. Shame on them.
2. David Brooks Gets Played
It is a familiar tactic that the Democrats have used lately - say it enough times and hope someone believes it. I was traveling yesterday and couldn't comment on the David Brooks column, but it is more and more clear David Brooks got played.
"The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, has talked about supporting a debt reduction measure of $3 trillion or even $4 trillion if the Republicans meet him part way. There are Democrats in the White House and elsewhere who would be willing to accept Medicare cuts if the Republicans would be willing to increase revenues."
This $3 to $4 trillion mysterious deal is the Democrats' talking point du jour. On CBS, Delaware Senator Chris Coons said the same.
"The next decade we can cut $4 trillion in federal spending. We can achieve real savings, and we've had plans on the table since March to do it in a bipartisan, responsible way. It's their intransigence, their refusal to consider any increase in revenue that has really stalled the talks so far. . . . I'm willing to make significant cuts in domestic spending and entitlement reform."
There's just one problem. This $4 trillion deal with entitlement reform does not actually exist. They may be saying that. David Brooks may be getting sweet nothings whispered in his ear by the White House. But there is no deal. This has become a familiar tactic by the Democrats in the past year when it comes to cutting the budget. We saw it with the continuing resolutions. We saw it with the Christmas 2010 tax extension deals. We're seeing it again. They claim there is an offer made, a deal on the table, and recalcitrant Republicans blocking the way.
3. This Needs To Be Edited Into A TV Ad
The Charles Koch Foundation has come up with a web ad on economic freedom. It is an important message. I cannot stress enough that you need to watch this. It is only 2 minutes. But more importantly, the Koch Foundation needs to turn this into a 1 minute television advertisement. It'll require some work to do, but this is a message that needs to get out to the greater masses. If you are a radio show host, you should just play the audio. It is fantastic.
4. Casey Anthony and the Law And Order Effect
I'm not a lawyer and I don't even play one on the internet but I am a concerned citizen and the trial, but not the acquittal, of Casey Anthony concerns me greatly.
I'm a conservative, not a libertarian. Generally speaking I'm all in favor of putting asses in jail. What I'm not in favor of is the life, liberty, and property of American citizens being treated as some sort of a game. That is why the Casey Anthony trial makes me angry.
Much of the commentary on the Casey Anthony trial has centered on what is being called the "CSI effect": the alleged belief that juries require more scientific evidence, like that routinely developed on the television conglomerate CSI: Whatever (where apparently jaywalking rates investigation by a half dozen lab tech cum SWAT members). I disagree. If anything the Casey Anthony trial showed that juries aren't necessarily overawed by scientific hoohah. If anything, I think the Casey Anthony verdict was a direct result of the Law and Order effect.
5. The Palestinian Accountability Act
One of the more intractable components of our foreign policy dating back to the Clinton years has been the obsession of creating a Palestinian state. The career egghead diplomats in the State Department believed that if we would only send billions in aid to the venerable leaders of the Palestinian Authority and grant them statehood, they would put down their terror toys and sing kumbaya. To that end, we have given them billions in aid and provided them with military training during the past two decades.
Those of us who lack the credulity of a toddler understand that Mahmoud Abbas is not a dulcet freedom-lover, and the PA/Fatah is not a moderate Muslim boys' club. It's time to end the good cop/bad cop charade between the "extremist" Hamas and the "moderate" Fatah - by treating them as co-equal perpetrators of terror. Abbas has repeatedly called for armed struggle against Israel (in Arabic, of course), glorified suicide bombers, and is closely linked with the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an Iranian-funded terror group that rivals Hamas in its ferocity in recent years.
6. Fast and Furious update: Ken Melson's secret testimony.
The sound that you're hearing is the muttered "Uh-oh" of a plethora of staffers at the Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives. Of particular interest is the letter that Oversight Chair Darrell Issa and Judiciary Ranking Member (for now) Chuck Grassley sent to Attorney General (for now) Eric Holder regarding Melson's testimony... but we'll get that in a moment.
For those coming in late: Issa and Grassley are investigating the horrifically botched Fast & Furious program that Justice/BATFE had put together, starting in late 2009. F&F was this ingenious method by which the federal government ended up knowingly and deliberately permitted illegally-resold firearms to be supplied to Mexican narco-terrorists; said narco-terrorists then proceeded to use those guns to shoot various hostages, Mexican civilians and police officers, at least one US Border Agent... as you can imagine, the Mexican government is not exactly pleased about any of this, which is why elements within said government are currently muttering about extradition treaties. This is where Kenneth Melson comes in: he is the Acting Director of BATFE, and was apparently picked to be the duly-assigned sacrificial lamb in this particular drama.
Only, it turns out that Melson doesn't actually believe in any of that dulce et decorum est pro Duce mori stuff; so he grabbed a lawyer and started talking to Issa & Grassley - on July 4th, no less. So now, let's talk about that letter.

Campaign against aid for Africa-which has the opposite effect of the one intended. |
Between 1970 and 1998 when well-meaning foreign aid was at its peak, the poverty rate in Africa rose from 11 percent to 66 percent. Why? Because foreign aid ended up in the hands of corrupt dictators-who are estimated to steal around $10 billion (about half Africa's foreign aid receipts) every year. Argue that what Africans need is "shock therapy," not liberal NGO workers swanning round the country in Land Cruisers. Free trade, property rights, and open markets will do far more than cash handouts. Say you got all this from a book called Dead Aid by a black African Harvard masters graduate, Dambisa Moyo.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These
Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Big City Scandals
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal dropped a bombshell on the state's educational bureaucracy yesterday. A special investigative report accuses the Atlanta Public School district of widespread cheating and corruption. Just to be clear, the students were not cheating, but teachers and administrators were changing incorrect answers on the state's standardized tests.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the report details "an enterprise where unethical - and potentially illegal - behavior pierced every level of the bureaucracy... In sum, a culture of fear, intimidation and retaliation permeated the APS system from the highest ranks down."
Just how widespread was the problem? Investigators uncovered evidence of cheating in 78% of the schools examined. Nearly 180 teachers and principals are accused of changing wrong answers on tests in order to win financial bonuses. Eighty people have reportedly confessed.
This is not an isolated incident. There are similar scandals in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. As the test scores dramatically improved, some began to question the results. The response was almost always the same - the critics were accused of racism by the very people who committed fraud.
Is it a coincidence that these scandals are occurring in major cities - bastions of the big labor unions and the Democrat Party? The left has a lock on the big cities, and Democrats can carry entire states based on their performance in those cities. Corruption is rampant. Politicians can get indicted and reelected. We have seen what liberalism has done to the nation's urban centers, where producers are punished and failure is subsidized.
Thanks to the ACLU, we're not allowed to teach our children about moral values. Unless, of course, it is a left-wing worldview involving alternative lifestyles. (The culture war is very real, and the left has no problem forcing its morality on the rest of society.)
But as we have seen in these cheating scandals, the people running the schools are lacking values too. We can't expect them to teach reliable standards of right and wrong when they are engaged in cheating and fraud. Perhaps this is just another reason why we should allow the posting of the Ten Commandments in our public schools. Maybe some teachers would learn something!
I know there are many good men and women of faith in the public school system, who are truly dedicated to their profession and the children they are serving. But the Atlanta case is particularly disturbing because it didn't involve just one or two lone individuals, but scores of people engaged in a mass conspiracy.
Yes, the taxpayers were cheated when undeserving teachers received performance bonuses they did not earn. But the children are the greatest victims. They were cheated out of the education they deserved and potentially denied the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
Obama Demands Tax Increases Again
President Obama announced yesterday that he has summoned congressional leaders to the White House tomorrow for more discussions on raising the nation's debt ceiling. The president insisted that this debate not drag on until the last second.
It is worth noting that Sen. Mitch McConnell invited the president to meet with Senate Republicans last week, but Obama refused. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was dismissive of McConnell's invitation, saying, "That's not a conversation worth having." As it turns out, Obama's schedule was just packed - with fundraisers.
Yesterday, Obama said it was his hope that everyone would leave their "political rhetoric" and "ultimatums" at the door tomorrow. But he also issued his own ultimatum by again demanding that tax increases be part of the solution.
I hope you see the game that is being played here. Last week, Obama rushed to the microphones to demand action, but was too busy with fundraisers to talk to Senate Republicans. Now he's telling Republicans to drop their demands, while he adds his own.
The media, of course, are simply parroting the Democrat line. All the pundits are demanding to know exactly what the Republicans are going to give up in these talks. They insist Republicans must raise the debt limit, so the only question left is which taxes will go up and by how much. The liberal talking heads don't get it.
Republicans do not want to raise the debt limit. They want to cut spending. But they will raise the debt limit in exchange for firm spending cuts. Voting to raise the debt limit is what the GOP is conceding in this "deal" in exchange for the Democrats agreeing to spending cuts.
But when the Democrats demand tax increases in addition to raising the debt limit, they are playing their same old "compromise" game: the GOP gives up two issues for every one Democrat concession.
To better understand the GOP's position, read this analysis by the Weekly Standard's Jay Cost. The Tax Foundation once estimated that tax rates would have to double, and in some cases triple, in order to bring Obama's budgets into balance. That is not going to happen. The problem is clearly spending.
EPA Marches On
Today's New York Times reports that Obama's Environmental Protection Agency, a.k.a. the Employment Prevention Agency, is about to unleash "a flood of government mandates that will strike particularly hard at the manufacturing sector..." Let me repeat that point: the left-wing New York Times, not the Chamber of Commerce, characterized these Obama EPA mandates as being "particularly hard" on America's struggling manufacturing sector.
Moreover, the Times notes that the mandates "will affect every corner of the economy." The EPA will reportedly begin this assault on the economy tomorrow by "imposing tighter restrictions on... coal-burning power plants in 31 states... The regulation is expected to lead to the closing of several older power plants." In addition, there will be new regulations imposed on "many of those [power plants] that remain in operation."
It won't take long for the fundamentals of economics to take effect. When the supply of a product or commodity is diminished, its price goes up. When the cost of doing business is increased, companies often raise prices. In this case, the government is mandating both increased costs and less supply. Guess what is going to happen to your electricity bill and the power bills of many businesses?
Note to the national and state GOP offices: Get your press releases ready now. When these EPA mandates take effect and start hurting communities around the country, make sure folks connect the policies to the person in the White House and the party in Congress that is responsible for them!

The Washington Post's Dana Milbank dubs her "the real center of Obama's inner circle," with ties to the president that are "deep and personal." Israel is sitting pretty. Sure she has problems, but her future is bright. Even her present is not too shabby.
Of immediate concern, is the attempt by the PA to gain recognitions and membership in the UN in the upcoming session in September. To this end the PA has agreed with Hamas to unify, thinking it would strengthen their case at the UN. Not so fast. Actually unification is proving more difficult to achieve then implied, due to irreconcilable differences. These differences have more to do with tactics rather than goals, they both want to destroy the Jewish state, and to their unwillingness to share power. So, at last reading, they have decided to postpone concluding an agreement until after September, if ever.
The most the PA can expect at the UN is recognition by the General Assembly, of Palestine with the '49 armistice lines as borders. But such recognition will change nothing on the ground and will be meaningless. The US has made it clear that it will veto its admission to membership. Furthermore, Israel has succeeded, diplomatically, in turning the EU around on the matter of recognition. A few months ago, Britain, France and Germany were threatening Israel to accept the armistice lines as the basis for negotiations, failing which they would vote for recognition. Now they are lined up with the US and Israel in urging the PA not to go to the UN for recognition.
Israel has successfully made the case that such a unilateral move by the PA would be a violation of the Oslo Accords which mandated no unilateral moves and a negotiated settlement. Israel has made it clear that such a move would result in unilateral moves by Israel and the end of the Oslo Accords. This means the end of the PA created pursuant to these accords. The primary unilateral move mooted by Israel is the extension of Israel law to the settlement blocs which would make the blocs sovereign territory of Israel. It would also replace occupation law over these territories. Many in Israel are demanding that Israel not stop there but that she should do the same for all of Area "C" over which she currently has full control pursuant to the Oslo Accords. These lands contain 300,000 Israelis and 10,000 Arabs. Israeli grassroots are now mobilizing a major campaign to increase Israeli support for such a move.
The last thing the Quartet wants to see, is the end of the peace process because it's control over Israel would also end. It prefers to keep Israel shackled to the Oslo Accords while it violates them by demanding Israel concede more that the Accords required. It also violates them by interfering in negotiations.
Last I heard, Abbas is still determined to go the UN. If he does, he risks alienating the US and the EU and ending the PA and his job.
The US and the EU have argued that the turmoil in the Middle East makes it all the more imperative that Israel make concessions for peace. But they have never made the case. Israel is not buying it and neither are independent thinkers. In fact Israel believes the opposite is true.
The US will not allow the US-brokered peace agreement between Israel and Egypt to be abandoned by Egypt. A new poll conducted by Egypt's ruling military regime showed that a 67 percent majority of Egyptians want to maintain their nation's peace treaty with Israel. This contradicted an earlier poll which showed that 54% of Egyptians wanted to scrap the agreement.
Israel Today commented,
"There is speculation that the new poll conducted by the Egyptian regime could be rigged. Egypt receives a massive amount of American military aid as a condition of the Camp David Accord. But, the numbers could also show a shift in attitude."
The US has brought the Muslim Brotherhood in from the cold in the vain hope that it can be managed. Hamas is moving closer to Egypt and away from Syria in the belief that the Assad regime cannot last. This may or may not be problematic for Israel but it is certainly problematic for Jordan who needs Israel more than ever to protect it. In fact Jordan wants Israel to remain in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) because it's in Jordan's best interest that she does. When Jordan pushes the peace process she does so to pacify her citizens and to show Arab solidarity but she doesn't mean it. Palestinian nationalism is a threat to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. She prefers the status quo, thank you very much.
Syria is on the ropes and is expected to go down for the count. Turkey has been threatening to invade Syria ostensibly to set up a safe zone for refugees but she may remain there and perhaps end up controlling Syria and by extension, Lebanon. The US is coordinating all this with Turkey and Israel. Remember, Syria and Lebanon used to be part of the Ottoman Empire. The US and Saudi Arabia have been trying to separate Syria from Iran for years and this may just be the way to do it.
At the same time, there are reports that the US is propping up the Assad regime by calling for it to talk with the opposition rather than calling for it to resign. Elliott Abrams is critical with this realpolitik and writes
"That is bad enough, but realpolitik must then be judged by its logic and its fruits. There are none, except for undermining the moral position of the United States. To repeat what has been written here before, the Assad regime is an enemy of the United States. It has the blood of tens of thousands of Syrians on its hands but also of thousands of Americans, killed in Iraq by jihadis it led into Iraq for that purpose. It is Iran's only Arab ally, and provides Iran with a Mediterranean port, a border with Israel through Hizballah, and an arms trafficking route from Iran to Hizballah. It supports and houses Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups. The fall of the Assad regime would be the greatest blow we can strike against Iran and its terrorist allies today."
Hopefully, the US will come to its senses and follow the Turkey option above set out. In fact, we see the fruits of the US coordinating efforts in the fact that Turkey did not back the current flotilla.
A week ago Lebanon formed a new government dominated by Hizballah loyalists and pro-Syrian politicians. Thus Lebanon can be counted on to be a strong part of the Iran/Syria axis and Turkey is being rejected due to its restored alliance with the US.
But Hezbollah is not home free. According to the leading Arab international daily, alsarq alawsat, it is under duress because the majority of Lebanese do not want a sharia state nor do they want Hezbollah to involve them in a devastating war with Israel. To make matters worse four top leaders of Hezbollah have just been indicted for killing Lebanon's beloved PM Rafik Harari. Finally, Hezbollah may be losing her Syrian patron and has begun removing her arms stored in Syria.
It remains to be seen how the Syrian/Hezbollah relationship develops. Will it strengthen or will it fall apart? Will Turkey, with US support, be passive or aggressive? Time will tell.

America's enemies understand deeply and intuitively that no U.S. goals or resources in the Middle East are remotely as important as Israel. Why don't we?
Israel cruised through the recent global slump with scarcely a down quarter and no deficit or stimulus package. It is steadily increasing its global supremacy, behind only the U.S., in an array of leading-edge technologies. It is the global master of microchip design, network algorithms and medical instruments.
During a period of water crises around the globe, Israel is incontestably the world leader in water recycling and desalinization. During an epoch when all the world's cities, from Seoul to New York, face a threat of terrorist rockets, Israel's newly battle-tested "Iron Dome" provides a unique answer based on original inventions in microchips that radically reduce the weight and cost of the interceptors.
Israel is also making major advances in longer-range...

By R. GAVISON, Y. ZILBERSHATS, N. GORE, JPOST International law and UN resolutions regarding the Palestinian question do not confer on refugees and their descendants a right to return within the borders of Israel. In August 2010, the position paper, "The Return of Palestinian Refugees to the State of Israel," was published by the Metzilah Center for Zionist, Jewish, Liberal and Humanist Thought and presented to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and to other decision-makers and academic experts. The paper examined all sources in international law dealing with questions of refugee return. It also reviewed the methods recognized throughout the world for dealing with refugee problems.
International law does not obligate/recognize the legal right of Palestinian refugees to settle in Israeli territory. Such large-scale return was not standard at the time the problem emerged, and it is not used effectively today. While the issue of the refugees needs to be dealt with... Read the whole entry ť
Israel's palace coup plotters By CAROLINE B. GLICK, JPOST
"Our greatest challenge is to stand up to unelected officials who have taken it upon themselves to discredit the cause of victory, embrace weakness, and destroy our sense of national purpose."
Unfortunately, even if the government is competent, and even if the nation stands strong, there is reason to fear that Israel will fail to successfully withstand the dangers gathering against it. Unelected, unrepresentative and irresponsible senior government officials are liable to take actions that undermine the government's ability to protect the country and weaken the public's morale and unity of purpose.
Over the past week, we received two reminders of how dire the situation is. The first reminder relates to institutional impediments to the government's freedom of action in preventing Iran from fielding a nuclear arsenal.
Since the beginning of his first term as prime minister 15 years...

PHILADELPHIA (JTA) - Many reviews already have appeared of "The Undefeated," the soon-to-be-released documentary about Sarah Palin's tenure in Alaska. Yet none of them - even in The Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post or The Washington Post - mentions that nearly all of the film's many pro-Palin media talking heads are Jews.
The dominant meme that Jews as a group are uncomfortable with Palin or her views seems less than convincing after viewing prominent Members of the Tribe defend her politics and record in elected office. Internet news mogul Andrew Breitbart, nationally syndicated radio talk show host Mark Levin and L.A.'s radio phenom Tammy Bruce, a gay Jewish Palinista with a Tammy's Army of followers, all deliver full-throated tributes to one of America's most conservative political figures.
Following a recent Manhattan screening of the director's cut of "The Undefeated," I...

Fellow patriots,
I personally know people who have spent time in Iraq and witnessed first-hand the slaughter and harassment of Christians by Muslim extremists, and shared with you articles describing how Christians are being systematically persecuted and killed by the very Islamic nations the U.S. is allied with, such as Pakistan, Iraq, and Afghanistan. And yet, the Church leaders I encounter in the United States are constantly engaged in outreach efforts to Islamic clerics and Muslims in general, including them in ecumenical programs and even starting a new movement called "Chrislam" -- a shocking and frightening concept that has pastors reading approvingly from the Koran in their pulpits.
WHAT THE "L" IS GOING ON?!!!
Whenever something this nonsensical takes place, you know that there is a very nasty conspiracy hiding under the surface. While it still hasn't been outed, the article below reveals another symptom of it.
SO PLEASE, IF YOU EVER HEAR ANYONE AT YOUR PLACE OF WORSHIP SPEAKING POSITIVELY ABOUT ISLAM OR NEGATIVELY ABOUT ISRAEL, PLEASE CONFRONT THEM DIRECTLY WITH THE OUTRAGEOUS PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS TAKING PLACE IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD, AND ASK THEM "WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU THINKING?!!!!" -- Make them explain themselves and don't cut them any slack. This is an outrage.
Catching my breath after this punch in the gut,
Dave
The churches against Israel
Christian blood libels revived, with Israel being painted as evil, having no right to exist
Giulio Meotti
A few days ago UK researchers announced that 17 skeletons belonged to Jews were found at the bottom of a medieval well in Norwich, England. The Jews were murdered in a pogrom or had been forced to commit suicide rather than submit to demands for conversion to Christianity.
The bodies date back to the 12th or 13th Centuries, at a time when Jewish people faced killings, banishment and persecution throughout all Europe. Those 17 Jews were killed because of "replacement theology," the most ancient Christian calumny arguing that because of their denial of the divinity of Christ, the Jews have forfeited God's promises to them which have been transferred to the Church.

Fellow Patriots,
This is what happens when our government refuses to acknowledge that we are in the midst of a war: a completely foreign terrorist, who should be treated as a prisoner of war and held in a prison camp far from the American public until the war is over, is read his Miranda rights, taken to the U.S., and tried as a criminal in Manhattan, one of the most densely populated parts of the country, under the American legal system, which presumes innocence until proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. In the wake of the Casey Anthony trial, which declared Casey Anthony innocent of murdering her daughter despite overwhelming circumstantial evidence of guilt, this treatment of a terrorist should send chills down every American's spine.
Just as chilling is the method used to perpetrate this outrage: The Obama Administration, having been foiled in his attempt to try Khalid Sheik Mohammed in a Manhattan court by adamant protests from the public, decided to keep its plans for this terrorist a secret until the terrorist was already on American soil.
Please spread the word to everyone you can, and prepare to protest this deceptive, inappropriate, and reckless endangerment of the American public. Thank you!
Dave

Court Wraps Video Games in First Amendment
7/5/2011
The U.S. Supreme Court got it wrong in Brown v. Entertainment Merchant Association. This wasn't a First Amendment case, it was a parents' rights case -- and only Justice Clarence Thomas understood that.
The issue was a California law that would prohibit the $60 billion-a-year video game industry from selling hideously violent games to children without parental consent. Numerous other states and cities had unsuccessfully passed similar laws against selling violent video games to children, and now these games are wrapped nationwide by this recent Supreme Court ruling in the embrace of the Constitution.
The California law did not prohibit the video game industry from producing and selling these realistically violent games, and didn't stop parents from buying or allowing their kids to buy them. The law said that merchants could not bypass parents and sell directly to children without parental approval

Gross Media Ignorance
There's little that's intelligent or informed about Time magazine editor Richard Stengel's article "One Document, Under Siege" (June 23, 2011). It contains many grossly ignorant statements about our Constitution. If I believed in conspiracies, I'd say Stengel's article is part of a leftist agenda to undermine respect for the founding values of our nation.
Stengel says: "The framers were not gods and were not infallible. Yes, they gave us, and the world, a blueprint for the protection of democratic freedoms - freedom of speech, assembly, religion - but they also gave us the idea that a black person was three-fifths of a human being, that women were not allowed to vote and that South Dakota should have the same number of Senators as California, which is kind of crazy. And I'm not even going to mention the Electoral College."
My column last week addressed the compromise whereby each slave was counted as three-fifths of a person for the purposes of determining representation in the House of Representatives and Electoral College. Had slaves been counted as whole people, slaveholding states would have had much greater political power. I agree the framers were not gods and were not infallible, but they had far greater wisdom and principle than today's politicians.

Kyl: GOP Agrees to Up to $200B in New Revenues
WASHINGTON - One day before a crucial U.S. budget meeting between the White House and congressional leaders, a high-ranking senator said Republicans have agreed to including significant revenue increases in a deficit-reduction framework.
"If you add up all of the revenues that we Republicans have agreed to, it's between $150 billion and $200 billion," said Senator Jon Kyl, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate.
Kyl said two possible ways to bring additional revenue to the government would be through sales of government property and additional fees for government services.
Meanwhile, House of Representatives Majority Leader Eric Cantor floated a possible tax compromise, saying Republicans could agree to closing some tax breaks in a budget deal as long as they were offset with tax cuts elsewhere.

The High Price of Obama's Fake Jobs Scheme
Sometimes magic tricks just aren't that great, and even the most innocent, wide-eyed child can't be fooled by the illusionist's flourish. Such is the case with the rabbit the White House is trying to pull out of its magic hat by claiming that President Barack Obama's stimulus has created or saved 2.4 million jobs at a cost of $666 billion, all while the United States continues to suffer 9.1 percent unemployment. If you do the math, that comes out to around $278,000 per job.

Super Obama Brothers ruin job opportunities for teens
"Perhaps you've already noticed around the neighborhood, but this is a rotten summer for young Americans to find a job. The Department of Labor reported last week that a smaller share of 16-19 year-olds are working than at anytime since records began to be kept in 1948. ... Only 24% of teens, one in four, have jobs, compared to 42% as recently as the summer of 2001. ... So instead of learning valuable job skills -- getting out of bed before noon, showing up on time, being courteous to customers, operating a cash register or fork lift -- millions of kids will spend the summer playing computer games or hanging out. ... Congress ... contributed by passing one of the most ill-timed minimum wage increases in history. One of the first acts of the gone-but-not-forgotten Nancy Pelosi ascendancy was to raise the minimum wage in stages to $7.25 an hour in 2009 from $5.15 in 2007. Even liberals ought to understand that raising the cost of hiring the young and unskilled while employers are slashing payrolls is loopy economics. Or maybe not. The Center for American Progress, often called the think tank for the Obama White House, recently recommended another increase to $8.25 an hour. Though the U.S. unemployment rate is 9.1%, the thinkers assert that a rising wage would 'stimulate economic growth to the tune of 50,000 new jobs.' So if the government orders employers to pay more to hire workers when they're already not hiring, they'll somehow hire more workers. By this logic, if we raised the minimum wage to $25 an hour we'd have full employment. Back on planet Earth, the minimum wage increase has coincided with the plunge in the percentage of working teens. Before the most recent wage hikes, roughly seven million teens were working. Now there are closer to five million with a job and paycheck." --The Wall Street Journal

"[P]resident Obama is not going to lead on the debt ceiling issue. Nor is he going to compromise or play a mediating role. He is more interested in blaming others for his troubles, demagoguing other solutions and running for re-election. This is why conservatives need to be reminded not to yield to scare tactics. ... President Obama is intent on laying the groundwork to blame Congress if a deal is not reached. It's why the President pointed his finger at Congress several times [last week], saying it was 'their job' and 'these are bills that Congress ran up' and finally excusing himself: 'I've been doing Afghanistan, bin Laden and the Greek crisis.' Apparently for the President, the economy of Greece is more important than preventing the American economy from collapsing ... like Greece's." --Heritage Foundation's Rory Cooper
"As a result of lower tax rates on the top income earners, not only do they pay a much larger share of all taxes, but they pay much more taxes total -- and revenue to the government has increased. This is because lowering taxes on the rich creates more rich people and richer rich people. The federal government gets much more revenue if you impose a 40 percent tax on a large number of very wealthy millionaires than if you impose a 70 percent tax on a small number of less wealthy millionaires." --Mario Loyola, director of the Center for Tenth Amendment Studies
"With Obama's statements, are we witnessing larger symptoms of a progressive push to reshape and redefine the Declaration's inalienable rights and, even more fundamentally, their very source? ... Progressivism is nothing more than moral relativism at the political level. Truth is never constant, with no fixed starting point, whether (theologically) in Sacred Scripture or (politically) in sacred political documents like the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Truth is determined not by an absolute, single authority but by the individual -- or, here, progressive individuals en masse -- who are always marching and ever-advancing toward evolving truths revealed somewhere down the road." --author and columnist Paul Kengor
"I saw a poll recently that insisted that only 16% of voters think that congressional incumbents should be re-elected. But that's entirely misleading. The real question is whether they want to replace their own congressman. ... In politics, clearly love is blind. That, in a nutshell, is how incumbents become incumbents." --columnist Burt Prelutsky

And now it's becoming clear that insisting on a slash-and-burn approach may be part of this plan. It has a double benefit for Republicans: It's ideologically tidy, and it undermines economic recovery which they think only helps them in 2012. Whistleblower Testifies Obama Obstructed Fast and Furious Investigation By Ben Johnson, The White House Watch
|
The chief congressional investigators of Operation Fast and Furious released explosive testimony from the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) that they say indicates the Obama administration tried to stonewall Congress, deny witnesses the ability to testify freely, and fire employees who refused to conceal damning information. According to acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson not only did the Justice Department play fast-and-loose with Fast and Furious, but other government agencies may have known - and funded - the straw purchasers the ATF program was designed to catch. The agency's investigation, which has resulted in at least two deaths, may have been entirely unnecessary.
Scorn on the Fourth of July
Congressman Darrell Issa and Sen. Charles Grassley sent a joint letter to Attorney General Eric Holder yesterday, revealing that Melson gave a transcribed interview on the Fourth of July, with only his personal lawyer present. The news must have come as a shock to Holder. Melson's testimony had been scheduled to take place July 13, with Melson's counsel and Obama administration lawyers from the DoJ and ATF taking part.
According to the letter, Melson testified that the administration had.... |

Obama's Fast and Furious Fall Guy Refuses to Fall By Doug Book, FloydReports.com

Barack Obama has spent a political lifetime profiting from underhanded deals made with one or another fellow incarnation of the devil.
So in 2009, when Obama appointed Ken Melson to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), he once again did what arrogant, would-be dictators do...he made a criminally irresponsible deal with a fellow egotist and power hungry usurper.
Melson had spent 12 years as a director of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board, lecturing throughout the nation on the wisdom of giving his organization absolute authority over.... |

Obama: Executing Mexican Murderer/Rapist Would Do "Irreparable Harm" to U.S. By Chris McGreal, The Guardian
|
President Barack Obama is attempting to block the execution in Texas on Thursday of a Mexican man because it would breach an international convention and do "irreparable harm" to US interests.
The White House has asked the US supreme court to put the execution of Humberto Leal Garcia on hold while Congress passes a law that would prevent the convicted rapist and murderer from being put to death along with dozens of other foreign nationals who were denied proper access to diplomatic representation before trials for capital crimes.... |

Each time President Obama addresses America's inalienable rights, I get emails. "Did you see Obama left out 'Creator' again?" began the latest.
The most recent occasion was a June 17 presidential statement responding to a UN resolution on sexual orientation. Obama stated that "LGBT persons are endowed with the same inalienable rights-and entitled to the same protections-as all human beings."
I can imagine why Obama and his speechwriters excluded the Creator in this particular statement.... |

The Jewish Vote
Every election season brings another round of predictable essays about the Jewish vote. Variations of these essays have been going round and round for decades without getting anywhere. So let's begin by demystifying the Jewish vote. The Jewish vote is not a single entity. There is no monolithic Jewish vote, because there is no monolithic Jewish community. The Jewish community is small, but in its own way it is as complex and diverse as American Christians are. Which is to say that there's a Jewish spectrum covering everything from Baptists to Unitarians. And politically everything from Rand to Marx. Let's begin by breaking down the Jewish vote into thirds as a way to get a larger overview of the picture on the ground.

Senate postpones Libya authorization bill to focus on debt
Still nothing from Congress
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) canceled a vote on legislation authorizing U.S. military action in Libya after facing pressure from GOP lawmakers, who warned they would vote the measure down in order to focus on budget matters.
Reid canceled the vote just hours before it was to begin, noting he had reached an agreement with the Republican leadership that would allow the chamber to work on issues related to the debt crisis.

Senate can vote on millionaire tax bill
Harry wants "millionaire tax"
The Senate as early as Wednesday could vote on a "Sense of the Senate" bill that says taxpayers earning $1 million or more each year should "make a more meaningful contribution to the deficit-reduction effort."
The bill, titled the "Sense of the Senate on Shared Sacrifice," was introduced last week by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). Reid filed at cloture motion on the bill on Tuesday afternoon, meaning a vote to end debate could take place as early as late Wednesday or, more likely, Thursday.

Obama warrns against short-term deal on debt
President thinks NOT raising debt ceiling is, "kicking the can down the road."
President Barack Obama prodded Congress on Tuesday to reach a sweeping long-term deal within the next two weeks to raise the U.S. government's borrowing limit rather than "kick the can down the road" with a makeshift, short-term solution. He declared the deal must include tax increases Republicans strongly oppose.
Obama said he was summoning leaders of both parties to the White House on Thursday to try to break the congressional impasse and beat an Aug. 2 deadline to avert a first-ever federal default that could shake economic markets worldwide.

Widening GM truck supply reminiscent of 2008 'bad habits'
New GM...same as old GM
General Motors Co. (GM) stocked Jim Ellis Chevrolet in Atlanta with plenty of Silverado full-size pickups in early 2011, part of a wager on a strong economic recovery. The strategy is backfiring.
"We thought that this year would bring back the kind of economic activity that would translate into us selling more trucks," Mark Frost, the dealership's general manager, said in a phone interview. "It's not happening."

Who wants to live forever? Scientists see aging cured
Imagine what gov't would do if people lived to 150
If Aubrey de Grey's predictions are right, the first person who will live to see their 150th birthday has already been born. And the first person to live for 1,000 years could be less than 20 years younger.
A biomedical gerontologist and chief scientist of a foundation dedicated to longevity research, de Grey reckons that within his own lifetime doctors could have all the tools they need to "cure" aging -- banishing diseases that come with it and extending life indefinitely.

California lawmakers pass bill to teach gay history
What about eskimo history?
A bill to require public schools in California to teach about the historical accomplishments of gay men and lesbians passed the state legislature on Tuesday in what supporters call a U.S. first.
Governor Jerry Brown, a Democrat, has not said publicly whether he supports the bill, which he has 12 days to sign or veto once it reaches his desk later this month. If he takes no action, the measure would become law automatically.

Tea Party News Wednesday, July 6th
Freshman Republican senators go guerilla | Sen. Ron Johnson mounted a protest last week against Democrats' failure to produce a budget - an effort which caused Harry Reid to yank a bipartisan Libya resolution from the floor. Sen. Rand Paul warned this weekend he would filibuster in an attempt to pry open closed-door debt ceiling negotiations. A key reason that the Senate is in session during the chamber's Fourth of July recess is that Freshman GOP senators, including Johnson, Paul, Kelly Ayotte and Marco Rubio, threatened a recess revolt that would force both parties to take an embarrassing vote to skip town. The new breed of troublemaker creates problems for Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. They must now deal with an unpredictable, angst-ridden crowd uninterested in the pay-your-dues tradition of the Senate at the same time they're engaged in tense negotiations over the debt ceiling. Sarah Huckabee Sanders joins Tim Pawlenty | Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and the former political director of his presidential bid, has signed on with Tim Pawlenty's 2012 campaign. She'll hold the position of senior political adviser and start work today in Pawlenty's Iowa headquarters. Sanders will be "taking the lead for the campaign on the Iowa Straw Poll effort," according to the Pawlenty camp. Pawlenty already has the most developed Iowa operation among the 2012 candidates and Sanders, who's no stranger to the state, adds to that muscle. Recruiting Sanders is an important symbolic move, as well as a substantive one, for Pawlenty, who is seeking to replicate the elder Huckabee's 2008 victory in Iowa. The news of Sanders's hire comes amid a major Iowa push from Team Pawlenty: They're currently airing their second TV ad in the state and have sent out several mail pieces. Original Argument: The Lost Chapters. Translated by Joshua Charles
Glenn couldn't fit all the Federalist Paper translations into his #1 NYT bestselling book The Original Argument -- all this week you'll be getting the Lost Chapters. Today's is on Military Command and Pardon power. Here's a sample:
If I am not mistaken, the wisdom of giving the President the power of pardoning has only been objected to as it relates to the crime of treason. It has been argued that the power to pardon treason should have required the agreement of one, or both Houses of Congress. I won't deny that there are good reasons to require the involvement of one or both Houses of Congress in dealing with pardoning treason. Since treason is a crime which is directed at society as a whole, once it has been lawfully determined that treason was committed, it would seem appropriate to require the consent of Congress in order to show mercy towards whoever was convicted. This should actually be how pardoning treason should be dealt with, since it is not entirely possible to rule out a conspiracy of some sort on the part of the President. But there are also many significant problems with such a plan.
Get the FULL TRANSLATION HERE.
WATCH: Click HERE to watch Glenn sit down with co-author of The Original Argument, Joshua Charles, and discuss the translating process and the role faith plays in preserving the Founders' intent.
