Founding Fathers

Quote:

"The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create whatever the form of government, a real despotism. A just estimate of that love of power, and proneness to abuse it, which predominates in the human heart is sufficient to satisfy us of the truth of this position."

Unemployment Rate Rises to 9.2 Percent, Hiring Comes to Near Standstill

The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on July 8, 2011 at 8:49am

 Prez

Tough economic recovery continues, as today's unemployment rate is bad news for the federal government and American workers, alike. Hiring slowed to a near-standstill last month, as employers added the fewest jobs in nine months and the unemployment rate rose to 9.2 percent. Bloomberg has more:

U.S. employers added 18,000 workers in June...

The increase in payrolls followed a 25,000 gain that was less than half the rise initially estimated, Labor Department data showed today in Washington. The median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey called for a June gain of 105,000...Hiring by companies, which excludes government agencies, was the weakest since May 2010.

White House Plans to Release New Gun Safety Measures 'in the Near Future'

The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on July 8, 2011 at 8:32am

Gun Reg's comming

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) - Six months after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot, the White House is preparing to propose some new steps on gun safety, though they're likely to fall short of the bold measures activists would like to see.

Spokesman Jay Carney said that the new steps would be made public "in the near future." He didn't offer details, but people involved in talks at the Justice Department to craft the new measures said they expected to see something in the next several weeks. Whatever is proposed is not expected to involve legislation or take on major issues, like banning assault weapons, but could include executive action to strengthen the background check system or other steps.

Restoring Courage - Jerusalem 2011

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government.  We have talked to all the power brokers.  The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God.  It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.

"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand.  I ask you to join me.  I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth.  If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution.  This is a people of faith solution.  This is a people all over the world solution.  I ask you to help get this word out."

Dr. Victor Wahby taught at the Mayo Clinic and has now organized the "Medical Music Group" to perform all over the world on Veteran holidays and at Patriotic gatherings.

Their mission is to perform "Music with a Message" -- a message of healing, hope, inspiration, patriotism, peace, and brotherhood.

Members of the non-profit organization include doctors, nurses, and other U.S. medical professionals, who serve as goodwill ambassadors for America in over 20 nations. They frequently perform during patriotic holidays honoring U.S. veterans.

We will also be discussing Ted Hayes's "The American Patriotic Sing Along," in which he leads the attendees at his events to sing along instead of being entertained. This is a very Patriotic mission that unites fellow citizens to sing in harmony with some of America's greatest Patriotic songs ... WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT

 UN AGENDA 21

aka Local Agenda 21 & "sustainable development"

WILL SHOCK YOU!!!

Do you have a nagging feeling something is wrong, but you don't know exactly what?  Who controls the US?   Who writes our laws?       Is it our elected officials or a higher organization like the UN?  Do you know where our money comes from and how debt affects us?

Join us Saturday, July 23rd - 6pm                                              PJ Ryan's  231 Bridge St., Phoenixville - private downstairs meeting room

There will be a discussion about UN Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, Property Rights & our Money.  This meeting may help fill in some of the blanks that the media leaves out.

Agenda 21 is a plan that calls for international control & regulation of virtually every aspect of human activity that might impact the environment, which is essentially EVERYTHING YOU DO - eat, drink, cook, drive, play, work, and LIVE.

Maurice Strong, UN Secretary General  - 1992  Rio de Janeiro United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) said "...Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class involving high meat consumption and large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and workplace air-conditioning, and suburban housing are NOT sustainable.  So, what does he mean by NOT Sustainable? http://sovereignty.net/p/sd/strong.html

Translation:  YOU will NO longer be allowed to have them.

J. Gary Lawrence, 1998 UK, UNEP Conference said ..."Participating in a UN advocated planning process would very likely bring out many... who would actively work to defeat any elected official... undertaking Local Agenda 21/Sustainable Development.  So, we call our process something else such as "comprehensive planning," 'growth management' or 'smart growth.'" http://www.unedforum.org/publications/millennium/mill%20paper2.pdf

Translation:  They will lie to you & deceive you so YOU won't know what they are really doing. This meeting is free & open to the public.                                Please come, listen and bring a friend

About Phyllis Schlafly

Phyllis Schlafly has been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her best-selling 1964 book, A Choice Not An Echo. She has been a leader of the pro-family movement since 1972, when she started her national volunteer organization now called Eagle Forum.

In a ten-year battle, Mrs. Schlafly led the pro-family movement to victory over the principal legislative goal of the radical feminists, called the Equal Rights Amendment. An articulate and successful opponent of the radical feminist movement, she appears in debate on college campuses more frequently than any other conservative. She was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by the Ladies' Home Journal.

Mrs. Schlafly is a lawyer and served as a member of the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution, 1985-1991, appointed by President Reagan. She has testified before more than 50 Congressional and State Legislative committees on constitutional, national defense, and family issues.

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For July 8, 2011

1. Caveat Emptor: Boehner Says There's A Deal

John Boehner says there is a 50-50 chance of a debt ceiling deal. Don't expect him to advocate cutting the budget, capping spending, and passing a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Boehner thinks a BBA is a "gimmick", despite his prior support for one in the nineties.

The tendency of many conservatives these days, myself included, is to dismiss out of hand whatever leadership comes up with. The tendency of others is to embrace it wholesale and thumb their noses at conservatives skeptical of the leadership's track record.

We should remember the Speaker sold us a bill of goods on the continuing resolution. Ultimately, it wound up driving up the debt, not driving it down. The $100 billion in cuts wound up being a few hundred million dollars in cuts.

I'm not hopeful. The one thing I can guarantee is that any deal John Boehner cuts is going to punt the ball. The question we must answer before giving it a thumbs up or thumbs down is just how far a punt.

Given Boehner's lack of leadership in holding the line on cutting, capping, and balancing, I won't hold my breath. But I am curious to see if it is a deal worth supporting.

Personally, my hope is that it so enrages conservatives, they finally find their testicular fortitude and hold the freaking line. It's pathetic when Olympia Snowe is to the right of them

2. OK President Obama, Let's Raise Revenue

President Obama is intimating that the GOP's opposition to "increasing revenue" is the sole obstacle to achieving a deficit reduction plan. We should call his bluff and put forth proposals to increase revenue. Then, there will be no excuses for opposing a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Obama has complained that we are overlooking the "spending through the tax code." He is correct. There are a lot of handouts ensconced in the tax code; it's just a shame that he is indifferent to them. In fact, he has increased their size and scope by leaps and bounds through his stimulus bill, denying the treasury much-needed revenue.

The Marxists have always had a way with words. In their dyslexic world view, they refer to tax cuts as handouts and handouts as tax cuts. Concurrently, they view tax hikes as spending cuts and spending cuts (real revenue increases) as tax hikes. As such, it is no surprise that Obama seeks to punitively eliminate universal tax deductions that are broadly available for real taxpayers, like the charitable tax deduction and the depreciation tax credit for oil companies, while blithely ignoring the selective handouts to those who don't pay taxes, such as the (un)earned income credit, ethanol tax credit, and the green industry life support.

3. The George Bush-Ted Kennedy Chickens Come Home to Roost in Atlanta

One of the worst trends in modern public education in the United States is using a child's performance on a standardized test to assess whether a teacher is doing his or her job and whether a school is performing or not performing.

The trend was growing before George Bush and Ted Kennedy sat down and drafted No Child Left Behind in the early part of W's administration. But then they decided to add in financial incentives and penalties and near national standards. Conservatives who were willing to speak up at the time said it would lead to dark places. Unfortunately, too few wanted to speak up against the new "conservative" President who'd just given the "liberal lion" carte blanche to draft education legislation.

As predicted by the few conservative voices in the wilderness, the chickens are coming home to roost in Atlanta, GA. A multi-year investigation into standardized test cheating in the Atlanta Public School system has found a mafia like atmosphere from the top all the way down to classroom teachers.

4. DSCC chair Patty Murray tries to get her some Koch campaign cash.

I can almost understand why DSCC chair Sen. Patty Murray would try to hit up the Koch Companies for 'five figures' (read: the maximum allowed by federal election campaign finance law). First off, Sen. Murray is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer (she'd almost have to be, given that Murray actually left a voice message as well as sent a letter*). Second, what's the worse that the Koch Companies are going to do? Say no?

Well. There's no, and then there's no.

5. Amazon, Tennessee, Bill Haslam, and a national sales tax.

Glenn Reynolds noted this apparent contradiction in what Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam's position actually is with regard to having Amazon.com collect sales tax: is the Republican Governor for it, or against it? I say 'apparent' because there isn't one, really; there's just not enough context.

Basically, the position that Haslam is taking is that the state of Tennessee trying to impose an Amazon tax would probably wreck ongoing negotiations between the state and Amazon.com when it comes to getting a couple more job-creating distribution centers built in-state (which it probably will)

6. Lee Fang on Oil Speculation: In Over His Head

Summertime 2011, and "investigative journalist" Lee Fang of ThinkProgress has replaced the BP Spill in my blogging life. Fang's amateurish attempts to find scandal in oil commodities trading have become my new blog fodder.

Fang puts forward the half-baked theory that the evil Koch Brothers and other traders control world oil prices via speculation. His latest piece, "JP Morgan, Koch, Other Oil Traders May Buy Discounted Strategic Petroleum Reserve Oil And Simply Store It" continues the tradition of sloppy documentation and an almost total lack of understanding of business and commodities trading.

This latest offering is especially sweet, because a key source Fang cites in support of his thesis - that financial speculation drives the market price of oil much higher than it would otherwise be - in fact takes the exact opposite position.

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts

SAVING MEDICARE

Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.

 It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]

 Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]

The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]

 This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.

 Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.

If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].

This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.

The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.

The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell

Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]

On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.

The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]

The Ryan Plan Incorporates These

Important Points

It is important that we

Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later

The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.

Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.

By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will

 maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over

 provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.

It is important that we...

Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older

This bears repeating:

 Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.

 If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.

 And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.

It is important that we...

Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees

Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.

It is important that we...

Maintain affordability

Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.

It is important that we...

Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare

Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.

It is important that we...

Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels

The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Fellow patriots,

The article below comes with a Nightly News video that is well worth seeing (http://worldblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/07/07/7031757-worst-drought-in-60-years-12-million-africans-face-fight-for-survival ). Its images tell the story far more clearly than the article dares to speak, although the author deserves a smidgen of credit for acknowledging that the lawlessness and warfare of Somalia and Muslim-dominated parts of Kenya and Ethiopia are the actual causes of famine. The article's photo provides the only hint that it is not simply lawlessness and warfare, but characteristically ISLAMIC lawlessness and warfare, that is causing the famine. However, the video makes the link to Islam abundantly more clear.

Deserts and arid lands exist all over the world, and droughts affect them all of them from time to time. However, it is only in Islamic states and totalitarian states such as North Korea where they call widespread starvation. This broadcast focuses on Islamic states, because no one defends totalitarianism, while many misguided people rush to defend Islam as a "religion of peace" and "one of the world's great religions."

If you've been reading these broadcasts, you understand that Islam operates every bit as much as a political/economic ideology as it does a religion. In terms of its affects on people's lives, it's more appropriate to compare Islam with Liberal Democracy/Free Enterprise, Communism, or Fascism than it is to compare it with Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, or Buddhism. This is because Muslims practice Islam by following Islamic Law, otherwise known as Shariah.

What is the effect of Shariah? It's natural effect is to restore a society to the living conditions under which Shariah was first created: the tribal and warlike environment of 7th century Arabia. Because devout Muslims dream of restoring society to the golden era of Muhammad and the Rightly Guided Caliphs (the first 4 successors of Muhammad who knew him personally), Muslims as a whole are not particularly interested in new inventions. For example, it took hundreds of years for the clock and the printing press to be accepted by the Ottoman Empire because they came from the Infidel West. Instead, devout Muslims want to live exactly as Muhammad did, and emulate his practices of polygamy, marriage to close relatives, pedophilia, lending without interest (kills the banking industry), and conflict resolution by way of deception and warfare.

Seventh century Arabian society was chaotic, even during Islam's "golden era," as evidenced by the fact that 3 of the 4 Rightly Guided Caliphs were killed because of conflicts within Islamic society itself. The gold of Islam's "golden era" came largely from conquest, enslavement, knowledge imported from conquered cultures, and control of key trade routes that slowly deteriorated under Islamic mismanagement. The Caliphate's gold was not the product of Islamic society's ability to generate wealth through new ideas or inventions. Therefore, as soon as the Islamic world stopped conquering, it fell into steep decline, which accelerated when those terrible colonists, England, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and Portugal, outlawed slavery and deprived the Islamic world of one of its major industries.

When one looks at images from Somalia and other parts of the Islamic world not propped up by vast oil wealth, one sees a window into medieval life: poor and chaotic, and unable to overcome the vagaries of Mother Nature with advanced transportation and food preservation methods. In fact, food distributions in Africa's drought area are actually disrupted by warring tribes, making famine unavoidable. In contrast, if you want to see what desert living looks like in the West, take a look at Las Vegas or Pheonix, AZ. Food and water are readily available, and even when times are hard, people have the freedom to move to other locations.

The images of Africa's Islam-inflicted famines should illicit pity. Obviously these people are not a danger to the West. However, we also cannot help them because the way out of this humanitarian disaster can only come about when Muslim populations reject Islam, and Muslims largely inoculate themselves from such conversions through Shariah's death penalties for apostasy and blasphemy.

The only way these people can harm us is if we allow them to come to the West and spread the ideological disease of Islam and thereby do to the West what Islam has done to Somalia and other Islam-dominated parts of the world.

Worst drought in 60 years: 12 million Africans face 'fight for survival'

By Rohit Kachroo, NBC News

WAJIR, Kenya - At first glance, the massive drought which has swept across Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia appears to be a crisis caused entirely by nature.

As we traveled north through Kenya into one of the worst-hit areas, the lush green of the Nairobi suburbs disappeared into gray sand and dry earth. In three hours, I counted the carcasses of 27 cattle by the roadside, and one giraffe - apparently killed because the land could not sustain them. The striking images of the landscape seem to represent a deceptively simple assessment of the drought: the dirty work of Mother Nature.

90 Years of Red Chinese Tyranny

U.S. v. China -- The Economic Contrast Is Fading

"We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude." --Thomas Jefferson

Hu's Who among Red Chinese

This week, we celebrated 235 years of American Liberty. Conversely, on the eve of our Independence Day, the Red Chinese celebrated the 90th year of tyranny under the Communist Party.

A few decades ago, the contrast between the economies of the United States and China was stark. More recently, however, the Chinese Communist government has allowed the "liberalization" of their economy while American Socialists have subjected ours to ever more collectivist regulation, oppressive taxes and intervention. Consequently, the once-colossal contrast between our economies, while still vast, has greatly diminished.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union in the Reagan Era, China is now the last remaining Communist stronghold with ties to the 1919-1921 Marxism-Leninist revolutionary period. Chinese intellectuals embraced Communism at the time, but the Chinese Communist Party did not gain constitutional dictatorial authority until 1949 after Mao Zedong's revolution established an autocratic socialist system for the People's Republic of China.

After the Qin Dynasty unification in 221 BC, China stood as a pillar of world civilization, excelling in economy and culture, particularly in the arts and sciences. However, civil unrest in the late 19th- and early 20th centuries resulted in the demise of its last great dynasty, and led, ultimately, to the Maoist revolution.

Though Mao's totalitarian rule restored China's sovereignty, it did so at great cost. Mao imposed rigorous social controls and brutally oppressed liberty and free enterprise, leading to the deaths of an estimated 70 million Chinese civilians, most as a result of centralized agricultural policies that led to massive government-induced famine. The rest perished at the hands of Mao's Red Brigades during the horrendous Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution from 1966 until Mao's death in 1976.

Mao Zedong looms over Tiananmen Gate

In 1976, as we were celebrating the Bicentennial of American Liberty, moderate Chinese Communists under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping abandoned the disastrous Maoist reforms and adopted more market-oriented economic policies. In two decades, China's economic production had increased four-fold, as did the standard of living for the Chinese people. Since 2000, China's economy has experienced double-digit growth in most years, resulting in what is now the world's second largest economy.

The Communist Party has, to date, retained its political monopoly with the backing of its enormous military and police reserves. However, as China's economy is increasingly shaped by principles of free enterprise, the inevitable result of improved standards of living has exposed the Chinese people to cultures and ideas well beyond their horizon. More than 1.3 billion people, who were largely isolated from the outside world just two decades ago, are now awakening to the prospects of Liberty and free enterprise.

On July 1, Chinese President Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, amid the kind of mass fanfare that only the Chinese are capable of conjuring, delivered a keynote address to Party elite. Hu conceded, "In some historical periods, we once made mistakes and even suffered severe setbacks, the root cause of which was that our guiding thought then was divorced from China's reality. Our party managed to correct the mistakes by the strength of itself and the people, rose up amid the setbacks and continued to go forward victoriously."

Of course, the "root cause" of China's catastrophic "mistakes" is directly tied to its failed utopian endeavor to implement Marxism, "the continued revolution under the dictatorship of the proletariat." (Could there be a lesson here for American Marxists?)

Moreover, Hu boldly acknowledged, "The Party is soberly aware of the gravity and danger of corruptions that have emerged under the conditions of the party being long in power. If not effectively curbed, corruption will cost the party the trust and support of the people. The whole party must remain vigilant against corruption."

Essentially, Hu was unwittingly paraphrasing 19th-century English historian and moralist Lord John Acton: "All power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

New Red Brigades

Clearly the Red Chinese leaders understand that their despotic regime's days are numbered unless they convince the people that their government knows what's best for them. If the Chinese economy continues to recede on pace with the world economy, Hu's regime may well face significant civil discord -- discord that could overwhelm the Party's predictable propaganda machine. China is facing formidable odds to economic recovery, most notably Communists who are embezzling billions from Chinese businesses for the "right" to stay in business. If they do not succeed, unemployed and desperate Chinese peasants -- those who had flooded into urban areas in search of jobs -- will take to the streets, and the resulting conflagration between Chinese military forces and civilians would, in its first hour, eclipse the slaughter at Tiananmen Square in 1989.

As the Chinese Communists move to liberate their economy amid this looming threat of civil unrest, will a plurality of Americans finally come to their senses and roundly reject those among our leaders who envision a utopian USSA?

Winston Churchill wrote, "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Likewise, celebrated American leftist Norman Mailer conceded, "The function of socialism is to raise suffering to a higher level." But will Americans be able to resist the indoctrination of the contemporary Left's propaganda machine?

What would history make of the prospect that a decade from now, the Chinese people might enjoy a greater degree of Liberty and free enterprise than we Americans?

In Debt Limit Debate, Higher Taxes Aren't the Answer

Republican congressional leaders will meet in the White House today with their Democratic counterparts and President Obama in an effort to reach an agreement on the debt ceiling. Reports are sketchy as to whether they will succumb to arm-twisting by the White House, amplified in the media, to cut a deal in which "everyone has to give a little"-or fill your preferred cliché. It is thus an appropriate time to remind everyone that Americans have already given all they can, especially to the IRS, and, no, it isn't time to raise taxes-on the contrary, it's time for politicians to curb their spending habits.

On Debt, Don't Let Politicians Rush Through Another Bad Deal

By Ernest Istook

Our future should not be determined behind closed doors. Yet that's where the White House and Congress are holding secret talks about our debt ceiling and about taxes and spending.

We deserve openness instead. We don't need another farce when the players suddenly burst from their huddle, line up Members of Congress, and rush through their plan on a quick count.

The two keys are first, frequent and detailed progress reports from the now-secret talks, and second, ample time for review of any agreement.

Welcome to the world, Australia

Berlin's synagogue after Krsitallnacht, 1938, when Nazis attacked Jews.

An ill wind of change in Australia

By Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun

HERE are some things I never thought I'd see in this country I love.

I never thought I'd see people picketing shops because their owners were Jews.

But in Melbourne last Friday, 19 protesters were arrested as they tried to stop people from shopping at the Max Brenner chocolate and coffee store in Melbourne's QV.

In Sydney last month, Leftist and Muslim protesters did the same to a Max Brenner shop in Sydney, claiming the Jewish-owned franchise company supported the Israeli Army.

I've seen pictures of Jewish shops being attacked before, of course, but they were in black and white, in another country at another ghastly time.

But this is Australia. Today.

Here's another thing I never thought I'd see in this country I've loved for its fair go.

Obama's Allegedly Illegal Misuse of White House to Support Campaign

Obama: the U.S. Code applies to everybody but me
by Bill Levinson

Obama Raffle Video Not Legal, Election Law Experts Say reports,

A video of President Barack Obama filmed in the White House and included in a fundraising e-mail sent to supporters is not legal, two election law experts told CNSNews.com. ...According to federal law (Title 18, subsection 607 U.S.C.), "It shall be unlawful for an individual who is an officer or employee of the Federal Government, including the President, Vice President, and Members of Congress, to solicit or receive a donation of money or other thing of value in connection with a Federal, State, or local election, while in any room or building occupied in the discharge of official duties."

The article alleges that the video was made not in a residential portion of the White House (which would be legal) but in the Map Room, which is a room used for the discharge of official duties. We sent a notarized complaint to the Federal Election...

Somali Terrorist Brought to New York City for Civilian Trial

Posted by Rick Moran on Jul 7th, 2011

In a move that is sure to revive the controversy over trying dangerous terrorists on U.S. soil, the Obama administration brought a Somali man, captured in transit between Yemen and Somalia in the Gulf of Aden, to New York City to stand trial in a federal court on terrorism charges.

Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame, portrayed by some in government as a "senior operational commander" of the Somali terrorist group al-Shabbab, has been indicted on nine counts of conspiracy and providing material support to terrorists. Warsame had significant ties to both Shabbab as well as the Yemeni group Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), having helped train terrorists in Yemen and plan attacks in Somalia. It is believed he was a major conduit between the two al-Qaeda affiliates and was in a position to harbor vast amounts of intelligence that would be helpful in heading off the increasing danger to the United States both organizations represent. Significantly, he was not accused of targeting America or American interests.

Hezbollah Indicted for Assassination of Lebanese PM

Posted by Rick Moran on Jul 5th, 2011

After months of delay and hesitation, the United Nation's Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) has presented indictments to Lebanon's state prosecutor in the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri. To no one's surprise, the indictments named four members of the terrorist group/political party Hezbollah, including one of its top military commanders. Yet fears of extreme internal discord, not the least of which would be sown by the looming influence of Syria and Iran, make the likelihood of punishment for the crime not favorable.

The indictments come at a time when the new Hezbollah-dominated government is preparing for a vote of confidence in parliament, and underscore the delicate political considerations that caused the UN to keep putting off formally announcing the charges, despite the fact that leaks dating back to 2010 had established the Hezbollah connection to the crime. The UN feared both a Sunni backlash against Hezbollah and the unpredictable response of the terrorists to being singled out for justice in the high profile assassination case, believing the indictments could ignite another civil war.

Op-Ed: Jews becoming commonplace in conservative 'new media'

PHILADELPHIA (JTA) -- Many reviews already have appeared of "The Undefeated," the soon-to-be-released documentary about Sarah Palin's tenure in Alaska. Yet none of them -- even in The Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post or Politico.com -- mentions that nearly all of the film's many pro-Palin media talking heads are Jews.

The dominant meme that Jews as a group are uncomfortable with Palin or her views seems less than convincing after viewing prominent Members of the Tribe defend her politics and record in elected office. Internet news mogul Andrew Breitbart, nationally syndicated radio talk show host Mark Levin and L.A.'s radio phenom Tammy Bruce, a gay Jewish Palinista with a Tammy's Army of followers, all deliver full-throated tributes to one of America's most conservative political figures.

Following a recent Manhattan screening of the director's cut of "The Undefeated," I mentioned this to filmmaker Stephen Bannon. He replied that he had not taken note of their Jewishness in choosing to include them. That in itself is significant: Jews have become so commonplace in the conservative new media that the fact of their Jewish identity fails to garner much notice.

White House staffers get raise more than double national average

Obama claims pay was frozen for 2 years

The White House released its annual salary report last week, and as usual, it's nice to work for Barack Obama: Most staffers who were there for more than a year got a salary bump. A bigger one than you did.

The last time we checked in on White House salaries, we found that an astonishing 75% of continuing staffers got raises from 2009 to 2010-a huge number given the fact that, according to compensation experts, most companies had skipped routine raises that year in reaction to the economic crisis that the White House was busy failing to solve. This time around-from 2010 to 2011-the ratio is a little less dramatic. Of the 270 White House staffers who have been there for more than a year, 146-or 54%-received raises. The average salary increase was 8%. If you look at only staffers who got raises, the average increase was twice that.

White House seeks delay of Mexican murderer

Obama intervenes; calls this 'international incident'

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday was considering whether to block a Mexican citizen's execution for the rape and murder of a teenager in a case where Texas justice clashed with international treaty rights. The White House was among those pleading for a stay, saying the case could affect not only foreigners in the U.S. but Americans detained in other countries.

The Obama administration asked the high court to delay Humberto Leal's execution, set for Thursday evening, so Congress could consider a law that would require court reviews in cases where condemned foreign nationals did not receive help from their consulates. Prosecutors say such legislation is likely to fail, and that Leal's appeals are simply an attempt to evade justice for a gruesome murder.

Tea Party democrats do exist

OMG!

Is there such a thing as a tea party Democrat? The answer, it seems, is yes. Polls show the group exists, but determining its impact is difficult. What role the group could play in the 2012 elections is even murkier, except as a rallying cry for Republicans who say the movement is a bigger tent than it appears.

Recently, Republican leaders have gone out of their way to make the argument that the tea party is more than just a group of (somewhat) disaffected Republicans who are angry about government spending they perceive to be out of control and the large size of the federal government.

While Weiner's tweets and online messages shocked the country and were indefensible, he has the good fortune of being from Brooklyn and Queens, where his old constituents have a higher tolerance for such shenanigans. (New York, it's a hell of a town.)

Campaign for Working Families

Thursday, July 7, 2011

To: Friends & Supporters

From: Gary L. Bauer

2012 Update

  • Two polls out of New Hampshire this week find Mitt Romney in the lead, but with shrinking support. In a poll conducted by WMUR and the University of New Hampshire, Romney's numbers fell from 41% last month to 35% this month. Michele Bachmann is second at 12%, up from 4% last month. No other candidates polled in the double digits.

The second poll was conducted by a Democrat firm, but found generally similar results: Romney 25%, Bachmann 18% and Sarah Palin 11%.

  • Michele Bachmann is launching her first TV ad in Iowa, where a recent poll found her essentially tied with Mitt Romney. You can watch the ad here.
  • While Michele Bachmann may have Mike Huckabee's campaign manager (Ed Rollins) on her team, Tim Pawlenty this week signed Huckabee's daughter, Sarah, as a senior advisor. Her immediate task will be leading Pawlenty's efforts in next month's big straw poll in Ames, Iowa. But don't read too much into that. Governor Huckabee released a statement saying, "I don't plan to endorse any candidate in the early stages of the Republican primary."
  • Washington is once again buzzing with speculation that Joe Biden's days in the White House may be numbered. The Obama campaign, so the argument goes, desperately needs to energize its liberal base. One suggestion calls for dumping Biden off the 2012 ticket in favor of Governor Andrew Cuomo, who just pushed through the legalization of same-sex "marriage" in New York. All I can say is "Go ahead, make my day!"

Only among Washington elites does Vice President Cuomo sound like a good idea. Putting Cuomo on the ticket would instantly make values a top campaign issue, and Team Obama would have to defend same-sex "marriage" in a number of swing states (Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Wisconsin) where voters have rejected it.

  • Combing through two years of Gallup's polling data, CNSNews.com's Terry Jeffrey reports this startling fact: "Barack Obama has now been president for more than 29 months, yet in none of those months has a majority of Americans believed the nation's economy is getting better rather than worse..." In 2008, many Americans voted for hope and change. We got change all right. But where is the hope?

Where Are The Jobs?

Yesterday President Obama held the first Twitter town hall event, answering questions from Twitter users all over the country. Fortunately for the president, he did not have to limit his responses to 140 characters.

Speaker John Boehner saw an opportunity. He asked a very simple question that has been on the minds of many Americans for some time: "After embarking on a record spending binge that's left us deeper in debt, where are the jobs?"

In one sentence, Boehner summarized the main argument against the Obama presidency. Obama struggled to answer the question. The Wall Street Journal reports that it took the president 3,044 characters, the equivalent of 22 Tweets, to say job growth has been insufficient. I suspect that response won't sit well with most voters next year.

In fact, one veteran reporter believes that yesterday's Twitter town hall is evidence of "anxiety bordering on panic within [Obama's] Chicago reelection headquarters." First it was the Facebook forum in April, and now the Twitter town hall. The Obama campaign is acting as if social media is some sort of switch it can use to turn on liberal activists. But it's not working. And it's not working because his policies aren't working.

More Questions For Holder

Last month, we reported on the Obama Administration's stonewalling of congressional efforts to get answers about Operation Fast and Furious, a gun-running sting operation that went terribly wrong. This story has legs and likely won't be going away.

It has been reported that Kenneth Melson, Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, would be forced to resign over the brewing scandal that resulted in the death of one Border Patrol agent. But while most Americans were celebrating July 4th, Melson was testifying before congressional investigators.

According to Melson, the ATF wanted to cooperate with Congress' investigation of Operation Fast and Furious, but the Justice Department "took full control of replying" to Congress. Did Attorney General Eric Holder step in and tell Melson to keep quiet?

Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Government Oversight Committee, and Sen. Charles Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, are accusing the Justice Department of "muzzling" the ATF "while the DOJ sent over false denials." Issa and Grassley are demanding answers from Holder, and now that Melson is talking they may actually get answers. Stay tuned.

The War Against Faith Continues

You've likely heard about this story by now, but it is one more example of the all-out-assault that is waging against our values.

According to several reports, government officials at the Houston National Cemetery have tried to censor pastors and volunteer honor guards from mentioning God or Jesus Christ. They also reportedly removed the cross and Bibles from a chapel and turned it into a "meeting facility." Our friend Kelly Shackelford of the Liberty Institute has filed a suit in federal court to force the Department of Veterans Affairs to back down.

I'd like to think there is a reasonable explanation for this bizarre behavior. But given the left's increasing intolerance for public expressions of faith, it wouldn't surprise me if the radical secularists are trying to ban God from our national cemeteries too.

Government Mandated Food is Next

government-mandated-change

By now, everyone is familiar with ObamaCare, government mandated health insurance, RomneyCare, single payer health insurance, or whatever you want to call it. Most agree this is bad news. I am one of those people and not because I don't think every should have health insurance. I do, but I also believe that is an individual's responsibility to take care of their own life the best they can and it is up to that individual to provide for themselves. When they truly can't it is up to other individuals and the church to step in when needed and offer help. Charity is a wonderful thing. Theft in the name of charity is not charity but theft.

I am a big fan of logic. I will admit, I am not always the most logical person out there but it is a wonderful exercise to complete a thought to its conclusion in the most logical way possible. This is where, I believe, politicians fail in their policy making. Most Americans do the same or else we would have voted these politicians out decades ago. Policies, laws, and regulations are usually designed for a particular, narrow purpose without thinking about the logical, long-term outcome or application. The Democrats' government mandated healthcare law that no one read is a prime example of this.

There is an argument I have heard that we all need health insurance which is why we must mandate it and force people to purchase it.

CNS News E-Brief

CNSNews.com

Friends,

I'm writing to update you on our ongoing efforts to uncover the facts about Justice Elena Kagan's involvement in the administration's defense of Obamacare before President Obama appointed her to the Supreme Court.

Twenty-seven states have now joined in lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare. Unless Kagan recuses herself from these cases, she will ultimately sit in judgment of the Obama administration's signature legislative achievement-even though, at the time the legislation was signed and the initial lawsuits filed, her job was to be the administration's chief advocate in federal court disputes.

Our fight for transparency has now won a major victory. Pointing to Justice Department documents released to CNSNews.com as the result of a Freedom of Information Act request, 49 Members of Congress have sent Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith a letter asking that the Judiciary Commttee "promptly investigate the extent to which U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan was involved in preparing a legal defense of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) during her tenure as Solicitor General."

As a result this letter from 49 Congressmen, Chairman Smith has sent his own letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking the Justice Department to provide the committee with the department documents and interviews with department officials that the committee believes it needs to "properly understand U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Elena Kagan's involvement in health care legislation or litigation while serving as United States Solicitor General."

Chairman Smith has asked Holder to provide these documents and arrange these interviews by July 29.

Please make a contribution to help to fund our ongoing investigation here

For the last year, CNSNews.com has been fighting to get a full accounting of Justice Kagan's involvement in the administrations' preparations to defend ObamaCare from the lawsuits the administration believed were "inevitable." CNSNews.com took the lead by filing a FOIA request-on May 25, 2010, a month before Kagan's confirmation hearings--and then fought in federal court to compel the Justice Department to comply with that request.

CNSNews.com will continue our investigation into this matter. We are the ONLY news organization pursuing this. Were it not for our work thus far, Ms. Kagan's vote on the Constitutionality of ObamaCare would be a foregone conclusion.

Please take a moment and make a contribution to our Kagan investigation. CNSNews.com has already spent considerable sums on our team of investigative reporters and on legal fees for court battles against the Obama Administration and their efforts to block our investigation.

This is truly a David vs. Goliath battle, and we need your help to move forward.

Thank you for your support,

Time's Orwellian Story on U.S. Constitution Refuted!

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski and ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell was published July 2, 2011 on The Huffington Post.

Time magazine's cover story shows the U.S. Constitution and asks, "Does it still matter?" Reading this story, we kept waiting for Emmanuel Goldstein to show up for the Two Minutes of Hate. It was difficult to discern whether we were reading Time, or Orwells' 1984.

It portrays the Constitution as an outmoded document that we should ignore to whatever extent is expedient to pursue someone's vision of a better society: "We cannot let the Constitution become an obstacle to a future with a sensible health care system, a globalized economy, and evolving sense of civil and political rights."

The story shows all sorts of poll questions that present a false choice, such as, "The 14th Amendment says that any person born in the U.S. automatically becomes a U.S. citizen... Should [it] be revised?" The Citizenship Clause says no such thing, because it adds that anyone "not subject to the jurisdiction" of the U.S. is not a citizen.

The CBO's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published June 30, 2011 on Forbes.com.

Last week, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued their Long Term Budget Outlook for 2011. The report closely validates my own analysis in my new book America's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb, released this month by HarperCollins.

CBO reports that the national debt is already the highest in history except for World War II, reaching roughly 70% of GDP this year. On our current course, CBO projects the national debt held by the public will climb to 100% of GDP by 2021, equal to our entire economy. By 2023, it will break the World War II historical record of 109% of GDP. It will then continue to rocket upward to 190% of GDP by 2035, which is higher than the level suffered by Greece when it collapsed into national bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy is defined here and in my book as when the federal government can no longer borrow enough in the credit markets to finance its budget deficit, which is precisely what Greece has been suffering. President Obama's own 2012 budget projects the federal deficit for this year at $1.645 trillion, the highest in world history by far

Checklist: America meets 90% of Karl Marx' demands

Kirk Elliott

I recently re-read "The Communist Manifesto" written by Karl Marx in 1848.

What I read was a bit shocking. Marx had "10 planks" that this evil manifesto was based upon and he advocated the use of any means to accomplish these socialist goals including violent revolutions. The planks are listed bellow, followed by my comment on how it applies to America today:

10 planks of communism by Karl Marx

1. Abolition of private property in land and application of all rents of land to public purpose.

Rep. Walsh Alligators In Moat

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) has made a video to go with his letter to President Obama, expressing his concern over the President's comments on immigration in El Paso, TX.

In a press release Rep. Walsh says, "For years President Obama has said he is serious about dealing with America's immigration issues, however, yesterday he reinforced the idea that he's not taking the issue seriously by suggesting that the only way to make Republicans happy on the subject is to build 'a moat'."
The letter goes on to urge the president to get serious about the issue of illegal immigration, "If it takes moats and alligators to secure our borders to get you to be serious -- I'm game."

Will Obama Go Fascist on the Debt Ceiling?
By Ben Johnson, The White House Watch

Barack Obama has sometimes been fond of branding his Republican foes "hostage-takers," but officials in his administration have found a new hostage in their negotiations over raising the debt ceiling: the U.S. Constitution. The president's advisers and several "unbiased" media outlets are suggesting if Congress refuses to raise the debt ceiling, Barack Obama can force the nation to continue borrowing money. The Founding Fathers required all expenditures originate in the House of Representatives, but Obama officials are wrapping his actions in the 14th Amendment. For the first time in living memory, the president is threatening to commit an impeachable offense if he does not get his way.

CBS News has reported the debt ceiling impasse leaves "the option of a congressional end-run by President Obama a possibility." Reporter Whit Johnson said....

Obama Says Libya is Not War, It's "Noise"
By Jim Emerson, FloydReports.com

When asked about his personal war against Libya and criticism about ignoring congress in a blatant disregard of the War Powers Act the President brushed both aside as just "noise". Obama has no intention to seek congressional approval as required by law. The President wants Americans to ignore the fact that the incursion into Libya was supposed to be a US Lead effort to establish a UN mandated "No Fly Zone" and no more.

He wants us to overlook the fact that this "kinetic military exercise" which started as a NATO air operations is now an overt effort to assassinate Libyan dictator Moammar Qaddafi....

First As Tragedy....
By Dr. Marvin J. Folkertsma, FloydReports.com

Karl Marx famously quipped that great historical events and personages appear twice, first as tragedy and second as farce. The tragedy he had in mind was the French Revolution and the farce was its pale successor that took place in France in 1848. To the contrary, events leading up to the revolution turn Marx's formulation around, in that farce preceded tragedy. A second example that demonstrates this historical dyslexia was an attempt to forestall the Civil War called the Crittenden Compromise. Both historical occurrences offer hard lessons for political leaders today....

Will Biden Be Benched? Is Hillary about to be drafted?

Jul 07, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Ron Reale, staff writer

Obama is spiraling into the inevitability of a one-term presidency.

His policies of appeasement around the world have caused the overthrow of the only middle-east regimes that either recognized Israel, or leaned just far enough toward the west that they could be counted on in tough times. The middle-east doesn't reward weakness, and consider "negotiations" a victory for them, because their demands can never be met, if their negotiating partner still has room to exist.

His destructive economic policies have led to government-created or subsidized jobs, which, according to the Weekly Standard, cost the taxpayer $278,000 each.

His energy policy, to shut energy and coal companies and make costs, "necessarily skyrocket," is the only thing working as he promised. Gas is 100% more expensive since he became president, and coal companies are under attack.

His raping of the financial system of this country, his collusion with ... Continue Reading:Will Biden Be Benched? Is Hillary about to be drafted?

Obama and Carter: Bookends

Jul 06, 2011 02:11 pm | Coach Collins

By Bruce Karlson, staff writer

Soon we shall have "stagflation" and fond Carteresque memories, the inevitable result of the convenient use of half of JM Keynes' approach to national economies. Keynes efforts were directed at saving the British from socialism not encouraging it. He did propose that government had a responsibility to spend money to ease the pain to economic downturns; his doctrine also called for government to replenish the treasury during said recovery. The peanut farmer and the community organizer decided they were sufficiently righteous as to not be required to step up to the replenishment part. Let the Republicans worry about that.

The certain result will be continued high unemployment and inflation in all areas of our lives...except home prices. Commodity prices have rocketed of late, which along with the sacrosanct ethanol subsidy, are causing misery at home and in countries near and far. (Mexico's poor suffer as the price of corn tortillas rise, ... Continue Reading:Obama and Carter: Bookends

Audacity of Hope: White House Staffers Got 8+ Percent Raises

Wednesday, 06 Jul 2011

Over the last year nearly half of the Obama White House's staffers have received raises during a time when employment is stagnating and the vast majority of people in the private sector are doing without a raise.

Of the 270 White House staffers who have been there for more than a year, 146-or 54 percent-received raises, according to Gawker. The average salary increase was 8 percent. If you look at only staffers who got raises, the average increase was twice that.

That's a much bigger raise than the average white-collar worker got. According to a survey conducted last year by the human resources consulting firm Mercer, most firms were projecting a 3 percent increase in base pay for executives. White House workers did nearly three times as well.

Friend of Free Enterprise:

In just a few months, the Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection and Energy Efficient Act of 2007 will take effect, removing SAFE incandescent light bulbs from store shelves, and replacing them with expensive light-emitting diodes (LEDs), toxic compact fluorescent (CFLs), and dangerous halogen bulbs.

This is why Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), introduced the Better Use of Light Bulbs (BULB) Act that would REPEAL the law that phases out 100 watt and 75 watt incandescent light bulbs and ends production of traditional incandescent light bulbs in the United States by 2015.

Several countries have laws that phase out manufacturing of traditional incandescent lights from 2012 through 2014, with most prompting their replacement with toxic CFLs, or halogen bulbs that are a fire hazard!

The Wall Street Journal reports that: LEDs remain the priciest option, with 9-watt and 13-watt bulbs that replace 40-watt and 60-watt incandescent models costing from $20 to $55 each. ... San Jose, Calif.-based Switch Bulb Co., says this fall it will offer an LED substitute for the 100-watter with suggested retail price of about $30.

A much cheaper alternative is halogen bulbs, but they come with safety risks because they are a FIRE HAZARD!

According to Pacific Gas and Electric, a halogen light bulb can heat up to 700 to 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit. And any flammable material coming into contact with such heat can burst into flames in a matter of seconds. Paper ignites at 451 Fahrenheit; and in research done by New York State Consumer Protection Board, it took 24 seconds for a T-shirt to ignite after coming into contact with a halogen light bulb.

Please FAX Congress and urge them to vote for Sen. Enzi's BULB Act and its companion bill in the House, H.R. 6411, so that our lives won't be run by federal bureaucrats or environmentalists. We must ACT NOW to save the free enterprise system from the green energy advocates who believe Americans should pay through the nose for expensive LEDs, risk toxic exposure from harmful CFLs, or welcome a FIRE HAZARD into our homes with cheap, but DANGEROUS halogen bulbs! If you are concerned about the transformation of America into an expensive green place, add a GIFT to the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise Action Fund as you FAX Congress.

According to The New York Times, a 300-watt halogen bulb can reach 970 degrees Fahrenheit, and 500-watt bulbs can reach 1,200 degrees. When you consider that paper ignites at 451 degrees and cloth at 640 degrees, it is easy to see why the halogen lamps pose a hazard and the best alternative to both halogen and CFL light is Tom Edison's 146-year old incandescent light bulb. You really can't beat a light bulb that has withstood the test of time.

According to Lance Turner of Renew Magazine, during an interview with THE AGE, less than 10 percent of the power of a halogen bulb is converted into light. The rest is turned into heat. That excess heat poses a significant fire risk when debris or insulation strays too close.

In 2008, The Age also reported that Melbourne had 57 halogen-related fires causing $17 million in damage in just 18 months. Those fires resulted in 10 deaths.

DANGEROUS

COMPACT FLOURESCENT BULBS...

THE OTHER ALTERNATIVE

Britain's Health Protection Agency was the first to confirm consumers' claims that exposure to CFLs was making them sick.

Consumers in the United States, Canada, England and Europe have been complaining about headaches, skin burns, rashes, and neurological problems caused by CFLs because they emit ultraviolet radiation and electrical and magnetic field emissions, or DIRTY ENERGY.

Health Canada tested the UV levels in CFLs and released a report stating that it was found that some people are extremely sensitive to UV and may be affected by the amount of UV produced. This includes people with autoimmune diseases, like Lupus, and those with sensitive skin.

British and Canadian health warnings also state that adults should never be closer than1 foot to a CFL-and that exposure should be limited to one hour.

CFLs contain carcinogenic toxins, including phenol, naphthalene and styrene.
Researcher Peter Braun, who carried out tests on CFLs at the independent Berlin Alab Laboratory, said: For such carcinogenic substances it is important they are kept as far away as possible from the human environment, the UK Express reports. Braun added that the bulbs are especially harmful if they are left on near a child's head, or if they are used in close proximity to adults who use the light for reading.

While it was known that harmful amounts of mercury are released if one of the new 'green' bulbs breaks, experts discovered they also emit several carcinogenic chemicals. The EPA itself has issued new warnings about mercury, yet is mute on the use of toxic mercury in CFLs.

The carcinogenic toxin phenol is a poison that was used by the Nazis to kill concentration camp victims-and naphthalene and styrene are released as a form of steam when the CFL is switched on.

Last year, the Canadian Broadcasting Network reported that a Trent University study revealed that DIRTY ELECTRICITY produced by CFLs can cause diabetics' blood sugar levels to increase, heighten neurological symptoms for people who have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and cause breathing problems for asthmatics.

CFLs, a fluorescent light bulb invention that was once believed to be an energy and environmental solution to America's problems, is quickly becoming a more expensive and dangerous alternative. CFLs produce high levels of electromagnetic pollution, producing electromagnetic frequencies between 400 and 800, whereas safe incandescent bulbs emit EMF levels of less than 50. CFLs can cause headaches and eye strain, and can hinder productivity for those who are dyslexic or suffer from attention deficit disorders (ADD/ADHD).

According to The Mercury News, "CFLs account for a quarter of new bulb sales and each contains up-to five milligrams of mercury, a potent neurotoxin that's on the worst-offending list of environmental contaminants."

The Association of Lighting and Mercury Recyclers reports that: "Demand for the bulbs is growing as federal and state mandates for energy-efficient lighting takes effect, yet only about two percent of residential consumers and one-third of businesses recycle them. If the recycling rate remains as abysmally low as it is, then there will certainly be more mercury released into the environment," said Paul Abernathy, executive director of the Napa-based recycling association.

Consumers should have the right to purchase any light bulb they want, be it traditional incandescent, CFLs, LEDs or halogen bulbs. Americans are suffering through a time of economic decline, with 9.1 percent unemployment, and should not be forced to purchase expensive LEDs because the alternatives-CFL or halogen-are toxic or can cause a fire.

Our representatives in the 112th Congress MUST VOTE FOR Sen. Enzi's BULB Act (S. 395), or its companion bill in the House, H.R. 6411.

Americans cannot afford any other alternative, especially since scientific research is revealing that CFLs are toxic and harmful and easy to break; and we already learned in the early-'90s about the hazards of halogen bulbs that can cause fires!

We must ACT NOW to urge members of Congress to REPEAL the 2007 green energy benchmark that would require every American to buy expensive LEDs, toxic CFLs, or halogen bulbs that are a FIRE HAZARD!

TELL CONGRESS TO VOTE FOR THE BULB ACT!

Join thousands of your fellow Americans and send faxes to every member of Congress to tell them to VOTE FOR the BULB Act!

Sen. Jim DeMint has laid the issue of the debt ceiling at the feet of the White House by saying they are "creating a crisis."
"I don't think we'll have any resolution,We've known this for six months and there has not been one debate on the Senate or House floor how to fix it."
DeMint has long been a Tea Party favorite by focusing on fiscal issues and thinks the White House is using issues in order to grandstand for the nation.
DeMint was also critical of Democrats for saying the nation would have to default if the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling isn't increased by Aug. 2, the day Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says was the drop-dead date. [Christian Post, July 6] Click here for the complete source story

Photographs of Jim DeMint and Olympia Snow

All 47 Senate Republicans introduced a balanced budget amendment in late March, and Snowe and DeMint - who are opposite sides of the spectrum of Senate Republicans - want to see the amendment as part of any debt ceiling deal.
After passing the House in 1995, balanced budget amendment votes in the Senate fell by one vote in 1995 and 1997. At the time, the national debt totaled less than $6 trillion, Snowe and DeMint noted. The current debt ceiling is set at $14.3 trillion.
"If Congress increases our national debt ceiling next month without permanent, structural budget reforms, we will signal to taxpayers and bond markets alike that Washington is still in denial. Whatever agreement is reached, everyone will know that future Congresses are not obligated to follow it. As a result, the only way to compel lawmakers to maintain their responsibility forever is a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution." Republican Sens. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah unveiled legislation Tuesday that would keep Uncle Sam's hands off of gold and silver coins that have been declared legal tender by the government.
The Sound Money Promotion Act comes after Utah became the first state to recognize those coins as legal currency and exempted the sale of gold from the state capital gains tax.
The U.S. Senate legislation simply states that "gold and silver coins declared legal tender by the federal government or any state government shall not be subject to taxation."

The GOP's move was seen as a positive sign that a deal will be reached, but the parties remain far apart on whether revenues raised from eliminating tax breaks should go to reducing the deficit or funding new tax cuts.
"If the president wants to talk loopholes, we'll talk loopholes," Cantor said, with one caveat: Any revenue gained from ending a tax break should be used to lower other taxes, the second-ranking House Republican said at his weekly press briefing.
That drew a sharp response from Democrats, who said the demand would prevent them from winning any deficit cuts through the elimination of tax loopholes.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) took credit for Cantor's flexibility, but said Republicans were moving backward by demanding that the tax component of a deficit-reduction package be revenue-neutral. [The Hill, July 6] Click here for the complete source story

Boehner: 'I Won't Accept Tax Increase'

Thursday, 07 Jul 2011

WASHINGTON - House Speaker John Boehner told his Republican members Thursday that chances of reaching a budget deal within the next few days "was maybe 50-50," a party aide said.

"Whether or not it happens is really dependent on whether they [Democrats] continue to insist on tax hikes" over Republican objections, the aide said. Boehner offered his assessment at a closed-door meeting with members shortly before White House talks with President Barack Obama and other congressional leaders.

Boehner told a closed meeting of the House Republican Conference that tax hikes were "off the table," even as he considers a variety of ways to increase revenue, according to Politico.

Senate DREAMs On

JAMES R. EDWARDS, JR. - The same pro-amnesty senators are again pushing the same amnesty bill, the so-called DREAM Act. Proponents love this legislation, which stands for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, because its beneficiaries are the most sympathetic subset of illegal aliens--giving advocates their best shot at achieving amnesty... All the president's high-paid 'engagers'

MICHELLE MALKIN - First rule of Obama transparency: If it's a holiday, it's time for a White House document dump. Over the Independence Day weekend, the administration released its 2011 annual report to Congress on White House staff salaries. While economic data for the rest of America remains bleak, the financial outlook for Obama flacks looks rosier than the president's complexion after his latest round of golf... (more)

Law of Sea Treaty could cost U.S. trillions

STEVEN GROVES - It's the year before a presidential election, so it must be time to debate the Law of the Sea Treaty ("LOST") again. As recently as last Thursday the Chief of Naval Operations pleaded for the U.S. to join the treaty. The Obama Administration has supported Senate action on LOST since at least May 2009 when it released its Treaty Priority List... (more)

Battles over gay marriage loom nationwide

NEWSMAX - Both sides of the same-sex marriage issue agree on one crucial element: New York's approval of gay marriage launched a national movement. But they disagree strongly on the ultimate result. Proponents embrace it as ushering in a new wave of equality, while opponents deride it as undermining traditional marriage... (more)

Politics vs. reality

THOMAS SOWELL - It is hard to understand politics if you are hung up on reality. Politicians leave reality to others. What matters in politics is what you can get the voters to believe, whether it bears any resemblance to reality or not. Not only among politicians, but also among much of the media, and even among some of the public, the quest is not for truth about reality but for talking points that fit a vision or advance an agenda... United Nations gun grabbers at it again

WASHINGTON TIMES - The despots, thugs, scoundrels, punks and various crooks at the United Nations have it all wrong again. Imagine that. Though the details have yet to be released, the U.N. wants to try to force strict small-arms control on the world under the pretense (lie) that such restrictions will make it tougher for terrorists and other assorted subhuman scum to get their hands on guns... It's not called 'Dependence' Day

Original Argument: The Lost Chapters. Translated by Joshua Charles

Glenn couldn't fit all the Federalist Paper translations into his #1 NYT bestselling book The Original Argument -- this week you're getting the Lost Chapters. Today's is on the Powers of the Convention to form a mixed government examined and sustained.

Here's a sample:

From these two recommendations, it appears that the purposes of the Convention were as follows:

1.To establish a firm National government

2.That this government would be able to meet the demands of government, and the preservation of the Union

3.That this purpose was to be fulfilled by making the necessary changes or adding the necessary provisions ("such alterations and provisions therein") to the Articles of Confederation (as the recommendation from congress says)

4.The changes and added provisions were to be reported to congress and to the states so that they could be agreed to by congress, and established by the states

By comparing and objectively analyzing these several recommendations, we can determine the nature of the authority under which the Convention acted.  They were to frame a National government, able to meet the needs of government and of the Union, and to alter the Articles of Confederation in such a way as to accomplish these purposes. There are two rules of interpretation which are based on both plain reason, as well as legal principles...

GBTV: SE CUPP Uncensored with Donald Rumsfeld

GBTV's SE Cupp sits down with former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Secretary Rumsfeld reflects upon his nearly 5 decades of public service, including service in 3 presidential administrations, the current state of the nation, and the 2012 election. In addition, SE gets Secretary Rumsfeld to drop his guard where we get a glimpse into his personal life and into a retirement that, in typical Rumsfeld fashion, doesn't include inactivity or, as SE terms it, "puttering".
