'Goodnight, America': Glenn Beck Hosts Final Show on Fox News

The Blaze | by Scott Baker | Posted on June 30, 2011 at 9:22pm

The final broadcast of "The Glenn Beck Show" was a little bit of everything: a look back, a glimpse into the future and a frank assessment of the reasons behind Beck's Fox News Channel departure.

Beck, who ad-libbed much of his last hour as an FNC host, spoke candidly about the decision to launch a web-based TV channel, saying he hoped he had earned viewers' trust on "The Glenn Beck Show." "Anyone watching this show knows that I have bent this format so far out of its structure, out of its parameters," Beck said. "This is a news channel. I do commentary."

"This show has become a movement," he said. "It's not a TV show. And that's why it doesn't belong on television. It belongs in your homes, it belongs in your neighborhoods."

 Restoring Courage

Restoring Courage - Jerusalem 2011

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government.  We have talked to all the power brokers.  The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God.  It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.

"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand.  I ask you to join me.  I also ask you to take this message globally, to take this to every corner of the earth.  If you have family living overseas, this is not an America solution.  This is a people of faith solution.  This is a people all over the world solution.  I ask you to help get this word out."

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT

 UN AGENDA 21

aka Local Agenda 21 & "sustainable development"

WILL SHOCK YOU!!!

Do you have a nagging feeling something is wrong, but you don't know exactly what?  Who controls the US?   Who writes our laws?       Is it our elected officials or a higher organization like the UN?  Do you know where our money comes from and how debt affects us?

Join us Saturday, July 23rd - 6pm                                              PJ Ryan's  231 Bridge St., Phoenixville - private downstairs meeting room

There will be a discussion about UN Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, Property Rights & our Money.  This meeting may help fill in some of the blanks that the media leaves out.

Agenda 21 is a plan that calls for international control & regulation of virtually every aspect of human activity that might impact the environment, which is essentially EVERYTHING YOU DO - eat, drink, cook, drive, play, work, and LIVE.

Maurice Strong, UN Secretary General  - 1992  Rio de Janeiro United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) said "...Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class involving high meat consumption and large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and workplace air-conditioning, and suburban housing are NOT sustainable.  So, what does he mean by NOT Sustainable? http://sovereignty.net/p/sd/strong.html

Translation:  YOU will NO longer be allowed to have them.

J. Gary Lawrence, 1998 UK, UNEP Conference said ..."Participating in a UN advocated planning process would very likely bring out many... who would actively work to defeat any elected official... undertaking Local Agenda 21/Sustainable Development.  So, we call our process something else such as "comprehensive planning," 'growth management' or 'smart growth.'" http://www.unedforum.org/publications/millennium/mill%20paper2.pdf

Translation:  They will lie to you & deceive you so YOU won't know what they are really doing. This meeting is free & open to the public.                                Please come, listen and bring a friend

Minnesota Government Shuts Down

The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on July 1, 2011 at 7:34am

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota's state government is closed for business.

Sorry - We're CllosedIt shut down at 12:01 a.m. CDT Friday, the victim of an ongoing dispute over taxes and spending between Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican legislative majorities. Talks fell apart well before the deadline, leaving state parks closed on the brink of the Fourth of July weekend, putting road projects at a standstill and forcing thousands of state worker layoffs.

Even before the final failure, officials padlocked highway rest areas and state parks, herding campers out.

RedState

 RedState Morning Briefing

For July 1, 2011

1. The Third World Oscar Mayer Wiener

t looked to me to be some sort of joke they intended to play on the producers. On yesterday's Morning Joe, Time magazine's Mark Halperin, asked his take on Barack Obama's Wednesday press conference, said the President came off like a "dick." That's his word, not mine.

He said they might need a delay. The production crew may have been asleep at the switch. They did not delay it. It got out there on live television. Halperin apologized. MSNBC suspended him "indefinitely." He said what a growing number of Republicans, Democrats, and people in the media think.

It's a problem for Barack Obama.

But another problem is shaping up on the floor of the United States Senate. Marco Rubio, who is rapidly becoming one of the most impassioned champions for opposing the debt ceiling increase, said that Barack Obama's class warfare soliloquy was not the rhetoric of the President of the United States, but of a third world leader.

2. Best Workforces Are In Right-To-Work States, Survey Finds

This may just be a coincidence but, out of the 50 states, there are 22 states that do not force people to pay union dues as a condition of employment. Workers in these states are often viewed derisively by union extremists as being somehow inferior to their union counterparts. However, a new study published by CNBC may blow that myth out of the water.

3. Fourth of July: REPUBLICAN BREEDING GROUND!!!!!

I suspect that the Democratic party probably doesn't want to ever see this sentence from a Harvard statistical survey appear in a news story:

"Taken together, the results indicate that Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican party."

...for fairly obvious reasons . Short version: going to Fourth of July celebrations (using a statistical rule of thumb* of good weather = participation) as a child results in an increased possibility of voting Republican as an adult (it apparently doesn't move the needle at all when it comes to voting Democratic). Oh, and progressives are why the Fourth became a public secular holiday in the first place**. Lastly: if you want to zap your kids into patriotism and/or Republicanism, the key dates to get them to a parade are from 7 to 10 for later partisan identification, and 15 to 18 for increased voter participation.

4. Michele Bachmann: Don't Forget Obamacare

The most effective proposal for dealing with the debt ceiling vote that has the backing of conservatives is the Cut, Cap, and Balance plan brought forth by the RSC. Accordingly, virtually every major conservative organization has coalesced around a pledge forcing all members of Congress to support the plan as a condition to raising the debt ceiling. The presidential candidates are also being recruited to sign the pledge, with Jim DeMint promising to support only those who sign to it.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney announced his support for the pledge, joining every other announced Republican candidate except Jon Huntsman and ....Michele Bachmann?

While Bachmann is a strong supporter of the RSC plan, she is still tepid about signing the pledge. CNN is reporting that Bachmann told DeMint she is still contemplating her support for the pledge because she wants it "to go a little further." Bachmann said at a town hall in South Carolina that she would like to add the defunding of Obamacare to the pledge as another precondition to raising the debt ceiling.

5. A Union Card Only Goes So Far as UFT & NAACP Throw 7,000 Kids Under the Bus

According to the union-member mom in this video (she also comes from a family of union members) she is not anti-union. However, this proud union member is a mother first and, in New York, there is a union that is trying to hurt her children.

Both the United Federation of Teachers and NAACP have filed a lawsuit that puts her children's future education (and the future of 7,000 other New York children) in dire jeopardy-just as schools are set to open in a few more weeks. Last month's lawsuit seeks to stop New York from closing 22 horribly failing schools and allowing for 17 charter schools to operate.

6. The Delusion of Indispensability

There is something about political office that either drives many men to infidelity - and the belief that the old rules don't apply to them - or attracts the sorts of men prone to infidelity and a belief in their own exemption from the rules. Just the last few years have been remarkable for the wave of public men confessing (or being found to have) a complete inability to keep their pants on around women other than their wives.

7. George Soros Gives Little Lee Fang His Comeuppance

One of the most genuinely stupid and embarrassing things to ever appear at Think Progress - and that's saying something - was a recent supposed takedown of the evil Koch Brothers by their supposedly nemesis, Little Lee Fang the ankle biting blogger.

Little Lee Fang tried to make a mountain out of something sinister called contango, a concept about which he clearly knew nothing and tried to make it into everything. Steve Maley picked it apart here.

Little Lee Fang's "contango" moment was one of those times when even the media sympathetic to Think Progress had to sit back and utter a collective, "Damn, that was stupid."

Well, Media Research Center has obtained hidden footage from inside the Center for American Progress of George Soros, Little Lee's benefactor, giving him his comeuppance.

Reclaim rock for conservatism:

Quote Frank Zappa: "The United States is a nation of laws, badly written and randomly enforced." Fewer laws equals more freedom-only a liberal could be opposed to that.

The REAL reason Obama is so sore with the British is that they keep threatening to release the secret intelligence files on his Kenyan grandfather. Turns out during the Mau Mau rebellion he was one of their most successful informants-codenamed MOLERAT. Any abuse or imprisonment he suffered was solely to make his cover story more credible.

Start a rumor:

Taking on the Gaza flotilla
Jonathan Tobin,
blogging at

Commentary, reports on a lawsuit brought by Shurat HaDin-Israel Law Center, to challenge the pro-Hamas activists heading toward the Gaza coast:

Most of the world has been looking on helplessly as pro-Hamas activists prepares to stage yet another naval photo op intended to besmirch Israel. But, as the New York Times reports today, one group of crafty lawyers has found a way to throw a monkey wrench into the plans of these anti-Israel agitators. Shurat HaDin-Israel Law Center, a group that has dedicated itself to holding the funders of terrorism accountable for the crimes they finance, has been contacting companies that have insured the ships that have been assembled to sail to Gaza to break the blockade of the Hamas-run strip to tell them they are leaving themselves open to prosecution for aiding terrorists. This ploy has understandably sent a chill down the spines of the some 30 maritime insurance providers who just assumed there would be no liability with their involvement in this farce.

Terror threat -- U.S. churches in danger

Becky Yeh - OneNewsNow California correspondent - 6/30/2011

Caution signWith the recent airing of an al-Qaeda video that encourages Muslims to attack religious institutions, Christian churches are being warned.

In a video released by al-Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn, the American-born Muslim asks jihadists to quickly obtain guns and carry out terrorist attacks against the West. He states that Muslims are placed in the region to "do major damage to the enemies of Islam, waging war on their religion, sacred places, and things and brethren."

To: Friends & Supporters

From: Gary L. Bauer

JUST HOURS LEFT!

My friends, time is nearly up on our matching gift campaign, and we still have a big gap to close! If you haven't yet made a donation to support our work, please go to cwfpac.com right now.

We can't do this without you. We don't get grants from Big Government. We don't have big benefactors, like billionaire George Soros. We don't tap paychecks, like Big Labor.

We rely entirely upon voluntary contributions from friends who share our pro-family, pro-life, pro-growth values. And you know that the Obama Administration is waging a relentless assault against the sanctity of life, normal marriage and free enterprise. We must defeat Obama!

That's why I am asking for your support. That's why so many friends have made commitments to match your gift and other gifts we receive by midnight tonight. Help us reach our goal.

If you can afford to make a contribution, please don't wait any longer. Time is running out on the chance to double your donation. From now until midnight, your $5 gift will become $10. Your $10 gift will become $20. $100 will become $200. $1,000 will become $2,000.

Click here to help us take America back! Thank you and God bless you.

Fact-Checking Obama

As I mentioned in yesterday's report, President Obama took to the microphones to demand higher taxes and denounce Republicans for putting tax breaks for corporate jets ahead of child safety issues. It was an absurd charge on its face and, thankfully, the media are calling him on it. Consider these excerpts from today's Washington Post:

"...the president six times mentioned eliminating a tax loophole for corporate jets, frequently pitting it against student loans or food safety. It's a potent image, but in the context of a $4-trillion goal, it is essentially meaningless.  The item is so small the White House could not even provide an estimate of the revenue that would be raised, but other estimates suggest it would amount to $3 billion over 10 years. Meanwhile, student financial assistance, just for 2011, is about $42 billion."

Bloomberg News reports that eliminating the tax breaks for corporate jets would achieve "one-tenth of 1 percent of [Obama's] target for reducing the federal deficit." Moreover, Fox News reports that the tax breaks for jets Obama is now trying to hang around the necks of Republicans were actually renewed by the Democrat Congress in 2009 - in Obama's stimulus bill!

The president also lashed out against another of his favorite targets yesterday - the oil and gas industries. But consider these facts from The Hill:

"According to a Congressional Research Service analysis from this year, renewables accounted for just over 10 percent of the country's energy production in 2009 while receiving roughly three-quarters of energy tax incentives. Fossil fuels, on the other hand, received 13 percent of the incentives while providing close to 80 percent of production."

This is just another example of Big Government attempting to pick winners and losers, and in the process punishing success and rewarding failure!

The Washington Post provides one final point about the president's misleading rhetoric:

"But the real dollars are in what the president calls 'tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires' - eliminating the ability of people making more than $250,000 to itemize their deductions. That proposal would raise $290 billion over 10 years. Wait a minute, the president said he would target 'millionaires and billionaires' and yet the fine print of his proposal would affect couples making more than $250,000 (and individuals making more than $200,000)? That's right."

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) blasted Obama's press conference, saying, "It was rhetoric, I thought, that was more appropriate for some left-wing strong man than for the president of the United States. ...Three years into his presidency, he is a failed president. ...Life in America today, by every measure, is worse than it was when he took over. When does it start to get better? When does the magic of this president start to happen?"

(Click here to see the ad CWF ran, thanks to your generous support, to help get Marco Rubio elected!)

I've provided you with three news sources taking issue with the president's comments, but perhaps the most telling reaction came from Time magazine editor Mark Halperin. I won't print what he said about Obama's performance yesterday. (You can read it here.) But no one has ever accused Halperin, also MSNBC's senior political analyst, of being a "right-wing conservative." If liberals can see the cynical game Obama is playing, I suspect he overplayed his hand.

House GOP Keeping Its Promises

House Republicans are coming through on the promises contained in their 2010 Pledge to America. According to Politico:

"The GOP passed a bill to repeal health care reform; it extended the Bush-era tax rates; it has been posting bills three days ahead of votes, as promised; and it has banned earmarks. House Republicans have also cut federal spending ... and they've cut their own congressional budgets. They also voted to end further federal funding for abortion."

Of course, Politico also noted that most of the GOP's "legislative priorities have stalled with a Democratic Senate." And that is why I hope you will support CWF as we work to defeat Barack Obama and his socialist allies in Congress. In order to effectively govern the country, we must hold the House and elect more pro-family, pro-life conservatives like Marco Rubio to the Senate. With your support, that's exactly what we will do!

Obama Recognizes Muslim Brotherhood

Here is a much less encouraging report from Politico: "The U.S. has decided to formally resume contact with Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood group - which does not recognize Israel."

Iran is on the rise, Libya is in chaos, thousands are dying in Syria and Obama is recognizing another enemy of Israel as it prepares to take power in Egypt. I am more than willing to be proven wrong, but so far the "Arab Spring" has produced bitter fruit.

CAIR In Congress' Crosshairs

Kudos to Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) for calling on the IRS to investigate the Muslim apologists at the Council on American Islamic Relations. CAIR recently lost its non-profit status, but it may have bigger problems to worry about. Rep. Wolf is asking for an investigation to find out if CAIR was receiving funding from foreign governments, particularly Libya's Muammar Qadhafi.

Rep. Wolf sent the IRS a copy of a letter from CAIR's executive director to Col. Qadhafi that outlined a $15 million effort to establish the "Muslin Peace Foundation" and reportedly thanked Qadhafi for his "generous support."

WASHINGTON - Computer hackers shut down al-Qaida's ability to communicate its messages to the world through the Internet, interrupting the group's flow of videos and communiqués, according to a terrorism expert.

"Al-Qaida's online communications have been temporarily crippled, and it does not have a single trusted distribution channel available on the Internet," said Evan Kohlmann, of Flashpoint Global Partners, which monitors the group's communications.

The attack was carried out within the past few days by unknown hackers targeting al-Qaida's Internet communications systems. It was "well coordinated and involved the use of an unusual cocktail of relatively sophisticated techniques," Kohlmann said.

"My guess is that it will take them at least several days more to repair the damage and get their network up and functioning again," he said.

A year ago, al-Qaida's Internet communications suffered a similar hacker attack.

British newspapers reported earlier this month that the the UK government hacked into an al-Qaida website last year and inserted recipes for making cupcakes in place of instructions on how to build bombs. The target was the group's English language magazine, "Inspire," intended for Muslims in the West. The magazine is the product of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, based in Yemen.

Story: UK spies hack al-Qaida, replace bomb info with cupcake recipes Instead of an article called "Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom," the online magazine contained recipes from a book assembled by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. It took the terrorist group nearly two weeks to restore its original posting.

Kohlmann said the latest incident "once again appears to bear the telltale fingerprints of government-sponsored hackers."

Gov. Onorato-Er, Corbett-Gives Unions A Sweetheart Deal

State workers get 11 percent raise, and the taxpayer foots the bill. Plus why it's time to do away with collective bargaining in PA

6/30/2011

In case you have been living under a rock, here's a newsflash: We are experiencing one of the most severe recessions in our history, and there are no greener pastures in the immediate future. Common sense dictates that with high unemployment, decreased tax revenues, large deficits and, most significantly, massive pension obligations, governors would take whatever steps were necessary to ensure that their states, and citizens, remain solvent, especially when it comes to negotiating public-sector union contracts.

That happened in places like Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio, where true Republicans are in charge. Governors Scott Walker, Mitch Daniels and John Kasich took the heat and did what they had to do, reeling in the out-of-control taxpayer largess afforded to these unions.

But most amazing of all is New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's remarkable success. Just last week, he pushed through a monumental union pension and benefit-reform package that will save taxpayers over $120 billion-and did so with heavily Democratic, pro-union legislative majorities. So effective was Christie that alongside him at the bill-signing was the Senate President-a longtime union member.

Contrast that to the deal just reached by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett with the largest state unions. Instead of acting in the best interests of the taxpayers footing the bill, he simply continued the Rendell legacy of keeping the cash register door wide open.

Women's Rights Key to Afghan Success

Laura W. Bush  |  Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Each time I meet a woman from Afghanistan, I am reminded that although women faced the harshest treatment under the Taliban, today they are one of the country's strongest assets for peace.

We need to remember this fact now as Afghan officials negotiate with the Taliban and the United States prepares to withdraw 10,000 troops from the country. Afghanistan is at that delicate moment in the development of a free society when the weight of its new institutions will either shift toward a free future or back toward an oppressive past. And whether it continues to protect and expand human rights could determine in which direction the country goes.

Pawlenty against pressuring Israel

By Ted Belman

Yesterday Tim Pawlenty, Republican presidential nominee hopeful, gave a very important speech to the Council on Foreign Relations.

He disagreed stongly with Obama's approach to Israel and the peace process.

And in the middle of all this, is Israel.

Israel is unique in the region because of what it stands for and what it has accomplished. And it is unique in the threat it faces-the threat of annihilation. It has long been a bastion of democracy in a region of tyranny and violence. And it is by far our closest ally in that part of the world.

Despite wars and terrorists attacks, Israel offers all its citizens, men and women, Jews, Christians, Muslims and, others including 1.5 million Arabs, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the right to vote, access to independent courts and all other democratic rights.

Nowhere has President Obama's lack of judgment been more stunning than in his dealings with Israel.

It breaks my heart that President Obama treats...

Rally 'Round Melanie Phillips

James G. Wiles, AMERICAN THINKER

It's when you're down and out that you find out who your friends are.

Take a moment, then, to consider visiting the new website of conservative Daily Mail columnist, author and blogger Melanie Phillips. Ms. Phillips just exited the Spectator's blog under highly shrouded circumstances. Fleet Street is abuzz.

Was it journalistic error?  Or political persecution?  It's simply impossible to get at the facts.

At the bottom of it all appears to be the British ruling class' eroding support for Israel - a phenomenon not unknown elsewhere in the West.  Like Caroline Glick at the Jerusalem Post and Pam Geller of atlasshrugs.com, Ms. Phillips has proved herself to be a great Lioness of Judah in resisting the rot. As such, in today's Western Europe, Melanie Phillips stands out.

As one gleeful Muslim website recounts, this wasn't the first time Ms. Phillips' enemies got a piece of her fur.  This...

Kuwait newspaper against UN recognition

The dangers in premature recognition of a "Palestinian state"!

By Abdallah al-Hadlaq, Al Watan, Kuwait

(Translated from Arabic)

International agreements dealing with peace in the Middle East must be respected

The Palestinian side is flaunting UNSC Resolutions 242, 338 and 1850 and the Road Map to Peace, all of which call for agreed solutions for disputes to be reached by direct talks, rejecting unilateral acts that undermine internationally accepted parameters for reaching peace, and defining basic principles for bilateral peace-making.

The Palestinians strive to obtain premature recognition for a "Palestinian State" this September despite the danger of derailing the peace talks, which is implicit in a unilateral declaration.

International agreements dealing with peace in the Middle East must be respected.

Israel indeed upholds them, as well as the principle of direct negotiations as being the only way to solve the dispute, while the Palestinians have long since...

Time For Congress to Lead on the Debt Ceiling

Tax Hikes

Currently, the top tax rates are 33 percent and 35 percent. In 1988-1989, the top tax rate was 28% . Raising tax rates on the "rich" will not result in more federal revenue.
From 1950 to 1963 when the top tax rate exceeded 90%, federal tax revenues averaged 17.4%. When the top tax rate was 28% from 1988-1989, federal tax revenues averaged 18.3% of GDP.
Increasing the rates on the top earners in our economy will hurt investment, job creation and economic growth. Higher tax rates reduce incentives to work and expand businesses. According to data from the Treasury Department, 72% of all small business income is subject to the top two marginal tax rates.
Raising tax rates on these small businesses will reduce investment, job creation and economic growth. It will not create a single job, and will eliminate many.
Raising taxes on the top earners is counterproductive. Revenue is not the problem, spending is. [The Hill, June 30] Click here for the complete source story

Balanced Budget Amendment graphic
Senate Republicans on Wednesday introduced a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution that would put in place several obstacles to higher spending, including requirements that total outlays cannot exceed total receipts, and that total spending cannot exceed 18 percent of US gross domestic product. These rules could only be waived by a two-thirds majority vote in both the House and the Senate.
The amendment, S.J.Res. 23, would also hold that the debt limit cannot be increased unless three-fifths of both the House and Senate agree.
In its current form, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's amendment would also be the longest ever, at 553 words. The 14th amendment, ratified in 1868 and dealing with U.S. citizenship rights, is currently the longest amendment, at 428 words. [The Hill, June 29] Click here for the complete source story

Defense spending pie chart
As few as 30 House Republicans would likely consider voting against a debt-ceiling deal that cuts $300 billion from security spending, according to a GOP aide.
The relatively small bloc of opposition to the level of defense cuts floated by the White House suggests the GOP's traditional opposition to reducing military spending has taken a backseat to warding off tax increases.
Robust defense spending and lower taxes have been two hallmarks of the Republican Party for years, and those two things are going to be in direct competition with one another in the debt talks.
Given a choice between lopping funding for the military and increasing taxes - two options for reducing the deficit long seen as anathema to the party - most House Republicans seem ready to pull the lever against the Pentagon.
Republicans are very much uniformly wedded to no tax increases. ... I think they'll ultimately come down on the side of no tax cuts. [Erik Wasson and John T. Bennett, The Hill, June 30] Click here for the complete source story

Our media colleague Chris Matthews just got a thrill up his other leg. He announced on MSNBC that he's figured out what the black community needs: same-sex marriage. He's wrong on religious liberty, and he's wrong on the economics both of marriage and of the black community.

Chris had a June 28 segment on Hardball discussing New York's law redefining marriage to henceforth include two persons of the same sex. One of your authors (Blackwell) was opposite a New York same-sex activist, and Chris acknowledged that he supports same-sex marriage.

Scalia Wrong, Thomas Right on Violent Video Games

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published June 29, 2011 on The Washington Examiner website.

Those who paint U.S. Supreme Court justices with a broad brush only prove they don't really understand the court.

Justice Antonin Scalia was dead wrong in striking down California's restriction on selling horribly violent video games to children. And Justice Clarence Thomas did a spectacular job of showing why the Founders would uphold this law.

California enacted a law restricting the sale of graphically violent video games to children, requiring an adult to make the purchase. One such graphic game involves the player torturing a girl as she pleads for mercy, urinating on her, dousing her with gasoline and setting her on fire.

Supremes Equate Video Violence with Free Speech

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published June 29, 2011 on The Washington Times website.

The cultural sledgehammer that's shattering basic decency in America keeps pounding away. Our enemies must be delighted to see us disarm morally and still expect to be strong, free and prosperous. They know it doesn't work that way.

This week, we've seen the Republican-controlled New York State Senate grant legal recognition to pretend "marriage." A Wall Street Journal photo makes that case: Two women, one dressed as a groom, celebrate. Because marriage at its core is the union of male and female, a groomless or brideless wedding is an absurd counterfeit.

Block Grant Welfare to the States

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published June 29, 2011 on The American Spectator website.

The first step in defusing America's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb, the title of my new book, is to restore a booming economy. I discussed last week how to do that by applying the lessons of Reaganomics.

The next step is fundamental entitlement reform, to reduce the overwhelming future burden of exploding entitlement expenses. As I argue in the book, we will never be able to solve the entitlement crisis by simply trying to cut benefits for the poor and seniors. We need fundamental structural reforms. We need to modernize our tax and redistribution entitlement programs to rely on 21st century capital, labor and insurance markets.

Why the GOP Is Right on Taxes

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published June 29, 2011 on FoxNews.com.

Congressional Republicans are standing firm on their principle that for every dollar of increase in the national debt limit, President Obama and the Democrats must agree to a dollar of spending cuts. That means if President Obama wants to increase the debt limit by $2 trillion to $3 trillion, then he will have to agree to $2 to $3 trillion in future spending cuts. But President Obama and the Democrats are insisting they won't agree to any spending cuts unless the Republicans agree to tax increases.

Most people don't know that sweeping tax increases have already been enacted in current law for 2013. In that year, all of the tax increases of ObamaCare go into effect, and the Bush tax cuts expire, which President Obama has refused to renew for singles making over $200,000 per year, and couples making over $250,000.

Debt Limit: Conservative Accountability is a Must

Congress is negotiating a deal to potentially raise the debt limit. Heritage Action sent a letter to Members of Congress yesterday, defining conservative accountability on this critical issue:

"Heritage Action is a 'no' and will remain a 'no' unless a deal rises to the level of the substantial fiscal challenges which face our nation."

>> See the letter we sent to Congress on the debt limit.

Any deal that raises our debt limit must cut current spending, restrict future spending and fix the budget process. The only plan on the table that rises to that level is the Cut, Cap and Balance Pledge.

Washington does not need another blank check to continue its reckless spending.

>> Help Heritage Action hold Members of Congress accountable.

It's for these sorts of fights that Heritage Action was created just over a year ago. We can take the fight directly to Congress and hold lawmakers accountable for their votes.

Your support makes possible all of what we do. Thank you for joining us and standing up for conservative principles.

Is There Time To Save America? Where are our men and women or honor?

Jun 30, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Ron Reale, staff writer

Looking at recent events and news is unsettling.

In a recent graduation ceremony, it matters not where it occurred, a principal felt it necessary to translate his graduation speech into Spanish, so his graduating class could understand it. REALLY?

Assuming America is still a viable country, dependent on capitalism as an economic system, does anyone think it is a good idea to be graduating students that can't communicate in ENGLISH? Have they not just wasted their time, and the money of the citizenry, actively assisting immigrants, (legal or illegal), for four years, to avoid learning the one thing that can help them live and work anywhere in this country? Are they not now relegated to living in anti-American enclaves, continuing to split this country apart? Have the students not been relegated to low-income jobs, (if any jobs, at all), because they can't speak the language of the United States and the preponderance of the business ... "Do we get free wifi or something like that?" Democrat tries to shakedown Apple's Steve Jobs

Jun 29, 2011 03:06 pm | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

Steve Jobs the co-founder of Apple Computers clearly loves what he does and where he lives and works. In Cupertino California, Jobs is a hometown boy made good. He made Cupertino the corporate headquarters for his mega-company and put it on the map.  Because of his love for Cupertino and its people, Jobs has developed a plan to radically expand his headquarters campus within the city's limits. Where he currently houses an operation that employs about 2600 workers Jobs plans to more than quadruple the number of people which would be working  in this new palace of industry.

Jobs wants to build a beautiful circular building on a 150 acre property which will be wooded and landscaped to present  what he predicts will be a magnet for future architectural students for years to come. On June 7, brimming with enthusiasm and refreshing almost child-like wonder, Jobs made a personal appeal to the Cupertino City Council seeking approval of ... Alexander's Essay - June 30, 2011

TIME on the Constitution: 'Does It Still Matter?'

Only if Liberty still matters

"The Constitution, which at any time exists, 'till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole People, is sacredly obligatory upon all." --George Washington, September 19, 1796

Unmitigated Ignorance

In celebration of the 235th anniversary of the signing of our Declaration of Independence, Time Magazine, the "journal of record" for the Leftist Illiterati (or as they prefer to be known, "the intelligentsia"), published a cover story featuring their errant interpretation of our Constitution. On an image of the shredding of that venerable old document Time posited this question: "Does it still matter?"

The short answer is, only if Liberty and the Rule of Law still matter. But Time's managing editor, Richard Stengel, begs to differ, having discarded Rule of Law for the rule of men.

In his boorish 5,000-word treatise on the issue, Stengel unwittingly exposes the Left's patently uninformed and self-serving interpretation of our Constitution, and he aptly defines their adherence to a "living constitution." That adulterated version of its original intent is the result of revision by decades of radical judicial diktats, rather than in the manner prescribed by our Constitution's Article V.

Stengel opined, "To me the Constitution is a guardrail. It's for when we are going off the road and it gets us back on. It's not a traffic cop that keeps us going down the center." According to Stengel, then, our Constitution just exists to keep us between the ditches and entitles us to swerve all over the road without consequence. Of course, that is hardly what our Founders intended, but Stengel insists that to ask "what did the framers want is kind of a crazy question."

Exhibiting a keen sense of the obvious, Stengel observes that times have changed and that our Founders "did not know about" all the advancements of the present era. Thus he concludes our Constitution must be pliable, or, as Thomas Jefferson forewarned in 1819, "a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary which they may twist and shape into any form they please."

Stengel insists, "The Constitution works so well precisely because it is so opaque, so general, so open to various interpretations," rather than, as "originalists contend ... a clear, fixed meaning."

To assert that our Founders intended the Constitution to be "so opaque, so general, so open to various interpretations" is beyond any accurate reading of history. As noted previously, our Founders provided a method to amend our Constitution in Article V. The problem, of course, is that Stengel and his Leftist cadres know their agenda would never pass a Constitutional Convention and, thus, they circumvent Article V by discarding Rule of Law in deference to their own rules.

Consequently, we now have a Constitution in exile, one that is little more than a straw man amid increasingly politicized courts that serve the special interests of political constituencies rather than interpreting the document's plain language, as judges are bound by sacred oath to do (Article VI, Section 3).

While it is highly tempting, any effort to rebut Stengel's erroneous claims point by point would violate my own rule against swapping spit with a jackass. However, as it is the eve of Independence Day, let us, for the record, revisit Essential Liberty as "endowed by our Creator" according to our Declaration.

Signing of the Declaration

The natural rights of man outlined in our Declaration are enshrined in our Constitution as evident in its most comprehensive explication, The Federalist Papers, a defense of that venerable document by its author, James Madison, and Founders Alexander Hamilton and John Jay.

Here is what our Founders actually did write about our Constitution and Rule of Law.

George Washington: "The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their Constitutions of Government. But the Constitution, which at any time exists, 'till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole People, is sacredly obligatory upon all. ... If in the opinion of the people the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this in one instance may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed."

Thomas Jefferson: "Our peculiar security is in possession of a written Constitution. Let us not make it a blank paper by construction. ... If it is, then we have no Constitution. ... [T]o consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions ... would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. ... In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution."

Alexander Hamilton: "If it were to be asked, 'What is the most sacred duty and the greatest source of our security in a Republic?' The answer would be, 'An inviolable respect for the Constitution and Laws -- the first growing out of the last. ... A sacred respect for the constitutional law is the vital principle, the sustaining energy of a free government. ... [T]he present Constitution is the standard to which we are to cling. Under its banners, bona fide must we combat our political foes -- rejecting all changes but through the channel itself provides for amendments."

James Madison: "I entirely concur in the propriety of resorting to the sense in which the Constitution was accepted and ratified by the nation. In that sense alone it is the legitimate Constitution. And if that be not the guide in expounding it, there can be no security for a consistent and stable, more than for a faithful exercise of its powers."

Stengel's biggest whopper, however, is one I simply can't let pass without rebuttal. He writes, "If the Constitution was intended to limit the federal government, it sure doesn't say so. Article I, Section 8, the longest section of the longest article of the Constitution, is a drumroll of congressional power."

My chief witness against this ridiculous claim would be James Madison, "the Father of our Constitution." As Madison wrote in Federalist No. 45, "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several states will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement and prosperity of the State."

That piece of trenchant prose would, of course, became the basis for the Tenth Amendment, which clearly and tightly limits the authority and scope of the federal government.

Before Stengel next ventures to opine on our Constitution, which for him is clearly uncharted territory, perhaps he should read a copy of "Essential Liberty."

Shredding Rule of Law

Time magazine is but one of a surfeit of liberal propaganda tools which play supporting roles in the primary assault on our Constitution.

The lead actor is Barack Hussein Obama who, along with his cadre of "useful idiots," are systematically dismantling the last vestiges of our Constitution's Rule of Law mandate.

As we prepare to observe this Independence Day anniversary, our nation is once again confronting a perilous threat to Liberty.

Thomas Paine once wrote, "[A]n unwritten constitution is not a constitution at all." I beg you take note: Our Constitution is being "unwritten" at an unprecedented pace. Obama has mounted a well-organized and well-funded effort to "fundamentally transform" our nation into a socialist state by thus deconstructing our Constitution. He has deserted his oath to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States," in accordance with Article II, Section 1, and clearly never intended to "take care that the Laws be faithfully executed," as specified in Section 3.

As was the case at the Dawn of American Liberty, we are but a small band of American Patriots facing an empire of statists, but we are steadfast in our sacred oath to sustain our Constitution. Please help us combat the ideology and propaganda of the Left in order to restore the integrity of our Constitution.

On behalf of Liberty, if you are able, please support our Independence Day Campaign. We still must raise $112,448 to meet our goal and there are just 4 days left.

Leave Me Alones vs Make It Betters

The two streams in American politics are not liberal vs conservative, they can be roughly defined as "Leave Me Alone" vs "Make It Better". Leave Me Alone seeks personal independence, self-reliance and freedom from interference. Make It Better believes in the progressive betterment of society through regulation, intervention and education.

Most people associate the "Leave Me Alones" with conservatism and the "Make It Betters" with liberalism. That's partly true, but not entirely. The hijacking of liberalism and the Democratic party by the radical left has them into the standard bearers of a ruthless "Make It Better" agenda. But "Make It Better" is found often on the right as well. The loss of the cultural war to the left has pushed conservatives into a defensive position. And the ascension of the left has moved it into a state of permanent aggression

Eric Holder: unfit for his office, Congress needs to review the record

WES VERNON, RA ANALYST - The "I" word is something one is well-advised to use sparingly lest it be abused and over-used. Impeachment is a constitutional option that has -- during our nation's history -- been approached with super-caution. After all, officials at the very top echelons of our government either were elected or were nominated by an elected official (the president) or were appointed by the duly elected head of state... California taxes the Internet

LOS ANGELES TIMES - Reporting from Sacramento-- Shopping at Amazon.com Inc. and other major Internet stores is poised to get more expensive. Obama for states' rights?

WASHINGTON TIMES - It's easy to tell when campaign season has begun. Obama defends Libya action: "A lot of this fuss is politics."

Ohhhhh that's what it is...politics

President Barack Obama, speaking at a White House news conference today, defended his decision to join international military operations in Libya, accusing lawmakers who have questioned the legality of the action of playing politics.

Obama stressed the limited nature of the U.S. military role in Libya--no ground forces would be deployed, he emphasized, and there have been no U.S.

casualties. But he also seemed to expand from his original argument for the Libya action on purely humanitarian grounds; in today's remarks, he suggested that the NATO coalition now coordinating the action should seek to remove Muammar Gadhafi from power because of his brutal authoritarian track record, and his past sponsorship of terrorism.

Clinton opened the meeting of his six-year-old Clinton Global Initiative with a discussion entitled "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs," that the organization for the first time is focused squarely on the United States.

Cuomo will seek to lift ban on hydraulic fracturing

Insert gay marriage joke here-

The Cuomo administration is expected to lift what has been, in effect, a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, a controversial technology used to extract natural gas from shale, people briefed on the administration's discussions said on Thursday.

Administration officials are discussing maintaining a ban on the process inside New York City's sprawling upstate watershed, as well as a watershed used by the city of Syracuse, according to people briefed on the plan. But by allowing the process in other parts of the state, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo would open up New York to one of the fastest-growing - critics would say reckless - areas of the energy industry.

Rubio blasts Obama: "He's a left-wing strong man."

Unlike so many first turns in the upper chamber, Rubio's stirring remarks, which celebrated American exceptionalism, caught fire. The Florida Republican's words were cited by Senate colleagues and championed by conservatives. To no one's surprise, the push to put Rubio on the 2012 ticket only increased, even though the charismatic freshman continues to swat away the chatter.

Look for the Rubio buzz to continue. In an interview with National Review Online, he says that he will take to the Senate floor for his second speech this week - and this time he will have President Obama in his crosshairs.

Obama's agonizing speech = water torture
