RedState Morning Briefing
For June 13, 2011
Save the American Dream
The Heritage Foundation has put together a plan to deal with our exploding national debt and out of control Washington spending. The plan is called Saving the American Dream: The Heritage Plan to Fix the Debt, Cut Spending, and Restore Prosperity.
This kind of plan is typical of the historic work of The Heritage Foundation-which is why I urge you to check out this site . . . complete with a video from yours truly.
In 1981, The Heritage Foundation-which remains America's most influential conservative think tank-handed Ronald Reagan a blueprint to help turn his ideals into real policy. And he followed their lead.
Now they're at it again . . . changing the game in Washington.
So if you want to be a game-changer yourself, take a look at this and consider becoming a Member of The Heritage Foundation and let's put some additional firepower to our conservative activism.
1. An Important Week for the 2012 GOP Field Begins Tonight at 7pm on CNN
The GOP's New Hampshire Primary debate begins tonight at 8 p.m. ET. CNN is hosting the debate and you can watch it live there.
But, beginning at 7 p.m. tonight, I'll be on CNN's John King USA participating with CNN's preview of the debate. Likewise, on WSB Radio, I'll have a pre-recorded preview of the debate. At 8 p.m., we'll all tune to CNN to watch the debate and here at RedState we'll have a live chat window so you guys can participate. I'll also be doing play by play coverage live on radio.
From 10 p.m. to midnight, you'll be able to tune to WSB Radio or listen online live at http://wsbradio.com to my post-debate show. RedState readers will be able to call in toll free to comment on the debate. The number is 1-800-WSB-TALK.
2. Free Press under pressure, Cyberterrorists get arrested, Same old FCC
Free Press is getting the heat. It's been exposed through FOIA that the far left front group was secretly coordinating media strategy with people at the FCC, including Commissioner Michael Copps. So when Copps makes a statement about media regulation, Free Press's pet issue, I have to assume they wrote it for him. Media Reform is their code for nationalization of the press, after all.
So now that they're getting exposed, it's almost not surprising that Free Press and their allies at the FCC are getting violent against conservatives and others exposing the truth about them.
3. Dispatches from the Gulf ... of Mexico
ExxonMobil hits large Keathley Canyon discovery (Oil and Gas Journal, June 8, 2011). XOM announces the discovery of 700 million barrels equivalent (BOE) of oil and gas in 7,000 feet of water, 250 miles offshore Louisiana.
Shell's Cardamom to come online (Offshore247.com, June 9, 2011). Shell will bring on 50,000 barrels equivalent per day from its 140 million BOE discovery in 2,700 feet of water offshore Louisiana.
4. Perry, Like Palin, Helps Romney. At Least Initially.
Every student of Morton Blackwell learns that political campaigns have three basic commodities: (1) Time, (2) Talent, and (3) Treasure. Of those commodities, talent and treasure are renewable resources to a limited extent. Time is both definite and finite. The constant factor in the 2012 Republican Presidential race right now is that Mitt Romney has the highest name ID of declared candidates. While you and I know who Rick Perry is, we are not normal primary voters. Those people are only now just becoming engaged and they remember Romney from 2008, but many do not know Perry.
So Perry would have to build up his name identification and raise money. This leaves Romney in the lead as the clock continues ticking.
5. Cedar Falls Bureaucrats to Property Owners: Give us the keys to your property...
In late May, property owners in Cedar Falls, Iowa had their city government vote (6 to 1) in the second of three votes (the third vote will be held on Monday) to force owners to place lock boxes on their property giving the Fire Department access.
6. SEIU On California's Conservatives: 'If we can't get them out, we'll breed them out.'
There is a scene in the movie Braveheart in which King Edward I (Longshanks) laments that there are too many Scots. His solution is to declare reinstatement of the old practice of primae noctis, which is to allow his nobles to have the right to take the Scots' newlywed wives to their beds on their wedding night. Upon declaring primae noctis, Longshanks states (in obvious reference to impregnating the Scots' brides), "If we can't get them out, we'll breed them out."
7. NJ's Christie on Health & Pension Reform: We are on the precipice of disaster...
With a staggering $66.7 billion in unfunded health care liabilities (the highest in the nation) for government workers, on top of the $53.9 billion in unfunded pension liabilities owed to those government workers, the Garden State's fiscal ship is sinking fast. Already, New Jersey's property taxes are the highest in the nation with the average residential property tax bill at $7,281.
It is a problem that, so far, Democrats and their union backers refuse to acknowledge as they march and protest-even going so far as calling in professional protester Jesse Jackson earlier this month. However, in a breath of fresh air, New Jersey's Senate President Steven Sweeney (a Democrat and a union guy) is trying to shake some common sense into members of his own party.

China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho
Thanks to the trillions of dollars that the Chinese have made flooding our shores with cheap products, China is now in a position of tremendous economic power. So what is China going to do with all of that money? One thing that they have decided to do is to buy up pieces of the United States and set up "special economic zones" inside our country from which they can continue to extend their economic domination. One of these "special economic zones" would be just south of Boise, Idaho and the Idaho government is eager to give it to them. China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach for short) plans to construct a "technology zone" south of Boise Airport which would ultimately be up to 50 square miles in size. The Chinese Communist Party is the majority owner of Sinomach, so the 10,000 to 30,000 acre "self-sustaining city" that is being planned would essentially belong to the Chinese government. The planned "self-sustaining city" in Idaho would include manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail centers and large numbers of homes for Chinese workers. Basically it would be a slice of communist China dropped right into the middle of the United States.

Noting that the Fogel family has granted permission to use the pictures of their murdered relatives to show exactly what kind of monsters infest Gaza and the West Bank, we have combined them with a picture that dehumanized Spaniards (who may in fact have been innocent of sinking the Maine) to such an extent that the U.S. went to war with them. We encourage distribution of this image in Israel and elsewhere to reinforce the perception of Palestinians as subhuman monsters, along with the recommended solution shown by the cross-hairs between the monster's eyes. (We had to do something with the U.S. flag in the original so we mentioned Palestinian terrorist Sirhan Sirhan who murdered a U.S. Senator.) This is something the Government of Israel should be doing on its own, by the way.

by Isi Leibler Even if the flag of Islam ultimately flies over Europe and most Jews assimilate or emigrate, a Jewish presence comprising principally of enclaves of ultra-Orthodox Jews is likely to prevail, especially in the main cities. Only a few decades ago analysts were predicting that the anti-Semite was becoming an extinct species. Alas, the pendulum has swung to the other extreme and today, the future for European Jews appears increasingly bleak. The deepening anti-Semitic climate prevailing throughout the continent emanates not only from Muslim migrants but also from the indigenous masses for whom the Holocaust has become a dim memory and is frequently even inverted as an additional vehicle to demonize and delegitimize the State of Israel. Indeed, if one weighs the impact of rampant anti-Israelism (which serves as a surrogate to traditional Jew baiting) combined with the revival of classical anti-Semitism, it is tempting to conclude that in terms... The problem for them is that they want the Quartet to force Israel to negotiate on their terms i.e. based on '67 lines which Obama has endorsed and Netanyahu has turned down outright. They are also finessing the Hamas problem. Hamas said they won't take part in the government even if they win the elections. Their choice is negotiating without preconditions which will go no where or going all in on unilateral action which will also go nowhere. | Obama Still Smokin': A Modern U.S. President |
Evidence Broadens By JB Williams Evidence that we have a fraud and a usurper currently residing in the people's White House is overwhelming, despite the overt lack of journalistic investigating on the part of the American press. But now new evidence indicates that the conspiracy to carry out that fraud was much broader than originally thought. The story of whom and what Barack Hussein Obama II really is - is a forty-year story that requires a book, not a column, to tell. Strong evidence suggests that he was being groomed from a very young age for the moment in history that would end American supremacy in the world, and usher in a new era of Global Marxist Governance. But there was a major hurdle that had to be overcome - the U.S. Constitution, in this case, Article II - Section I - Clause V specifically, which requires that "no person except a natural-born citizen of the United States" can hold the office of President. - Obama is not a natural-born citizen... Muslims to Fight Anti-Sharia Bills on Capitol Hill!
The good news is that there has been a recent uptick of anti-Sharia legislation being written across the country. The bad news is that Muslims are using our freedoms against us to fight the legislation. Tonight we learn that the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), will be holding a forum on this issue on Capitol Hill. The Muslim Public Affairs Council today announced it will host a Capitol Hill forum on "A Solution in Search of a Problem: The Impact of Anti-Sharia Bills in America" on Monday, June 20, to discuss the impact of state-level bills on various faith communities and the Constitutional guarantee to freedom of religion.
My message to MPAC is: The impact will be eventually crushing the Sharia movement that is taking place within America. A movement which MPAC obviously supports. MPAC needs to understand that we will not allow Islam to takeover, in the name of freedom of religion! It will not happen! "Sharia has become an... Read the whole entry »

by Mordechai Kedar and David Yerushalmi Middle East Quarterly How great is the danger of extremist violence in the name of Islam in the United States? Recent congressional hearings into this question by Rep. Peter King (Republican of New York), chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, have generated a firestorm of controversy among his colleagues, the press, and the general public. Though similar hearings have taken place at least fourteen times since 2001,[1] King was labeled a latter-day Joe McCarthy and the hearings called an assault on civil liberties and a contemporary witch-hunt. Yet the larger dilemmas outlined by both the congressman and some of his witnesses remain: To what extent are American Muslims, native-born as well as naturalized, being radicalized by Islamists? And what steps can those who are sworn to the protection of American citizenry take that will uncover and disrupt the plots of those willing to take up arms against others for the sake of jihad? Tennessee passes important material support for terrorism law!
It was a contentious legislative battle.
Islamic organizations and leaders, aided by blatantly dishonest reporting by The Tennessean newspaper, pulled out the stops to try to defeat the bill. Some even claimed, quite falsely, that the bill would make it illegal to practice Islam!
But in the end, the bill passed overwhelmingly, with bi-partisan support, in both the Tennessee House and Senate.
The law closes a gap in Tennessee's prevention of terrorism legislation, passed back in 2002.
And, significantly, the law prohibits the use of religious doctrine to justify acts of terrorism or provide material support to designated terrorist organizations.
We in the national office of ACT! for America were proud to provide "air cover" to help our chapters, members, and their coalition allies on the ground in Tennessee. We sent out numerous emails, both to our Tennessee members and nationally, providing timely information and calls to action.
But it was the ACT! for America organization on the ground in Tennessee, working closely with other grassroots organizations, that made this victory a reality.
Spearheading this "ground effort" was Joanne Bregman and the leaders and volunteers of the Middle Tennessee chapter of ACT! for America, in partnership with Bobbie Patray and Eagle Forum activists.
But they were not alone.
Countless ACT! for America volunteers worked hard to make this victory possible. Bill Warner, with the Center for the Study of Political Islam; the Tennessee Freedom Coalition; and the 9/12 organization; all played important roles.
We commend Senator Bill Ketron, House Speaker Pro Tem Judd Matheny, and their staffs, for standing fast against the vicious and dishonest onslaught that was leveled against them.
The passage of this law is just the latest example of how ACT! for America is successfully applying the equation Guy Rodgers discussed in his email yesterday:
Vision + Strategy + Organization = Victory
Today, ACT! for America has 160,000 members and nearly 580 local chapters.
Just imagine how many victories, and how big those victories will be, when we have 500,000 members and 1,500 chapters!

Far-Left and Muslim Allied Against Freedom, Israel, and Robert Spencer

Unfortunately a political alliance has formed across the West, and it is not a pro-Western alliance. It is pro-Islamic, anti-American, anti-Israel, and they are playing for keeps. As they are violent. A recent example of this behaviour was seen just a few days ago, when my colleague Robert Spencer was in Stuttgart Germany, to help usher in anti-jihadist politician René Stadtkewitz's Freedom Party. Another "WTF" Obama Foreign Policy Moment
As Governor I fought the Obama Administration's plans to cut funds for missile defense in Alaska. So imagine how appalled and surprised I was to read this article by former Clinton CIA Director James Woolsey, appropriately titled "Giving Away the Farm," concerning President Obama's latest bizarre actions relating to missile defense.
President Obama wants to give Russia our missile defense secrets because he believes that we can buy their friendship and cooperation with this taxpayer-funded gift. But giving military secrets and technologies to a rival or competitor like Russia is just plain dumb. You can't buy off Russia. And giving them advanced military technology will not create stability. What happens if Russia gives this technology (or sells it!) to other countries like Iran or China? After all, as Woolsey points out, Russia helped Iran with its missile and nuclear programs. Or what happens if an even more hardline leader comes to power in the Kremlin?

Giving Away the Farm
The Obama administration is freely giving Russia sensitive information about missile defense that weakens U.S. national security.
BY R. JAMES WOOLSEY, REBECCAH HEINRICHS | JUNE 7, 2011
"... Congress discovered that the administration has been working on a missile defense agreement with the Russians and that Moscow had requested that the United States share with it loads of sensitive U.S. missile defense technology and operational authorityas part of that deal. In the administration's eagerness to please the Kremlin, it may just oblige.
"The House of Representatives has given a firm "no" to that prospect through its decision to ignore Obama's veto threat and approve the defense appropriations bill by a veto-proof vote of 322 to 96. The Senate may act similarly. On April 14, 39 Republican senators sent a letter to the president expressing their concern over the administration's consideration of granting to the Russians sensitive U.S. technology and "red button" authority to prevent the interception of incoming missiles headed for U.S. troops or allies. This would allow Russia to deny the United States the ability to intercept a missile Washington had determined to be a threat."

New Interview with Michael Chertoff: Former Secretary of Homeland Security |
Hello There,
The new Uncommon Knowledge video from our friends at the Hoover Institution is now available.
This week's video features Michael Chertoff, Secretary of Homeland Security from 2005-2009 and author of the book Homeland Security: Assessing the First Five Years. In this new interview, he dissects our most pressing national security issues, from the killing of Osama bin Laden, to US involvement in the Middle East, to airport security. He then compares Obama's current national security agenda with that of George W. Bush's.
Is Obama adequately protecting America? See what Michael Chertoff thinks!

Reclaiming a historical truth
The deliberate depopulation of Arab villages was a hallmark of the Arab campaign. In December 1947, villagers in the Tul Karm sub-district were ordered out by local leaders.
By Efraim Karsh
I agree with Shlomo Avineri, in his op-ed "Zionism needs no propaganda" (Haaretz English Edition, May 23 ), that the tragedy befalling the Palestinian Arabs in 1948 was exclusively of their own making, and that there is therefore "a grave moral defect in the Nakba discourse."
I am surprised, however, by his assertion that "despite decades of research, to this day no document or broadcast has been found confirming ... [any order] by the Arab leadership for the population to leave." This claim couldn't be further from the truth. While most Palestinian Arabs needed little encouragement to take to the road, large numbers of them were driven from their homes by their own leaders and/or the "Arab Liberation Army" that had entered Palestine prior to the end of the Mandate, whether out of military considerations or in order to prevent them from becoming citizens of the prospective Jewish state. Of this there is an overwhelming and incontrovertible body of contemporary evidence - intelligence briefs, captured Arab documents, press reports, personal testimonies and memoirs, and so on and so forth.

Obama's knack for handcuffing peace By HERB KEINON 06/10/2011 17:35

THE COMING CRISIS IN THE MIDDLE EAST
By Barry Rubin
The gap between dominant Western perceptions of the Middle East and the region's reality is dangerously wide. While the "Arab Spring" is celebrated as an advance for moderation and democracy, in fact the advance is going to revolutionary Islamists. Developments in Turkey and Egypt especially threaten to plunge the Middle East back into an era of conflict, instability, and the worst threats to Western interests in decades.
There are several things very much predictable about the future of the Middle East area during the next year. First, on June 12, 2011, Turkey will have an election. That election will probably be won by the government, whether or not it gets a two-thirds majority. The current rulers will interpret this as a signal to take a much tougher line toward Israel and the United States. It is possible that the extent of the increase of Turkey's enmity toward Israel after that election will astonish the world.
If the governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) wins a two-thirds majority, this means it will have control of rewriting the Turkish constitution. They will try to create a presidential regime, Erdogan will run for president, and Turkey will move into an increasingly visible alliance with Iran, Syria, Hamas, and Hizballah. This is not alarmism, it is a serious analysis.

Liars, Infanticide and Barack Hussein Obama
Jun 10, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Doug Book, staff writer
In 2000, the Born Alive Infants Protection Act (BAIPA) was brought before the United States Congress. The intent of the 2 paragraph bill was the protection of live infants after separation from their mother by certifying their rights as legal "persons."
"The BAIPA was designed to ensure that in those rare cases in which a baby marked for abortion happens to survive-that the child will be immediately accorded full human and constitutional rights."
As many on the left believed this an underhanded assault on Roe v Wade, a "neutrality clause" was added, which read: "Nothing in this legislation shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being born alive as defined in this section."
Upon the inclusion of the neutrality clause in 2002, the bill passed the Congress without a dissenting vote ... Continue Reading:Liars, Infanticide and Barack Hussein Obama

Barack Obama actually was born in Seattle, Washington, and his birth name of Barak Mounir Ubayd, which was later changed to the present Barack Obama, was registered in a very small mining camp in British Columbia, Canada, just over the border from the United States, says Attorney and Author Stephen Pidgeon.
To prove what he has written in his book The Obama Error, Pidgeon says he possesses a raised sealed copy of the name change document numbered 1973-203489.
Based on his own conjecture Pidgeon has said, "I believe Malcom X is the true father!" You can view this mind rattling video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN8GWqsodYA&feature=related

On June 3rd, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Neb) organizeda congressional field hearing near Offutt Air Force base in Nebraska, home of the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM). The purpose of the gathering was to highlight the role of STRATCOM to justify building a new headquarters facility.
STRATCOM
A mission statement from the STATCOM Website reads as follows: "Detect, deter, and prevent attacks against the United States and our allies - join with the other combatant commands to defend the nation should deterrence fail." Among its priorities are to deter nuclear attacks, maintain cyber security and respond to new challenges in space.
During this hearing the STRATCOM Commander Gen. C. Robert Kehler testified on the merits of his command by highlighting its involvement in the Bin Laden mission as well providing support in the Libyan no fly missions. Sen. Through rich stadium subsidies and cartel powers granted to professional football by our representatives in Congress, we have helped to bankroll the gains in revenues that are now at issue in the NFL players-owners clash. In particular, as Vanderbilt University economist John Vrooman argues in a chapter from a forthcoming book about the NFL, increases in local revenues spurred by government-subsidized stadiums lie at the heart of the dispute, says Steven Malanga, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.
- The NFL and the players' union negotiated a collective bargaining agreement in 1993 that set the stage for the current impasse.
- The players gained free agency, but in exchange the league won the right to cap salaries at 64 percent of revenues.
- But those revenues included in the cap are calculated in a complex formula that allows teams to exclude certain local income from the shared pool.
- Over time, team owners naturally have tried to maximize those revenues that are unshared, including lucrative income from luxury boxes and club seats.
Taxpayers enabled much of this.
- Shortly after the 1993 bargaining agreement, the NFL embarked on an aggressive era of local expansion that included adding new teams in cities where politicians were desperate for a franchise.
- The end result was an addition of 25 new venues each boasting on average some 150 luxury suites and between 8,000 and 9,000 premium club seats.
- The first group of 13 stadiums, built before the NFL created its own loan fund to help finance new stadiums, cost $3.3 billion, of which only $888 million, or 27 percent, was private financing.
- Stadiums in St. Louis, Oakland (which was renovated, not constructed, for $128 million), Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Cleveland and Cincinnati were among those built primarily with public funds.

Tell Congress to Mandate E-Verify Worker Verification Database Nationwide
Below is a FREE FAX you can send directly to your 2 Senators and U.S. House Representative, by merely pressing the button below.
By a vote of 5-3, the United States Supreme Court ruled that states can revoke the licenses of businesses that do not use the federal E-Verify database to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs. With a 99.7% overall effectiveness rate, this tool is the best option currently available to reduce the presence of illegal aliens in the U.S. economy and put unemployed Americans back to work.
The decision by the U.S. Supreme Court paves the way for Congress to issue E-Verify nationwide. Only then can we see a true reduction our nation's illegal alien population. Please don't delay. Send this critical message to your 2 Senators and U.S. Representative, urging them to support E-Verify nationwide. This is a completely free service. There is no cost to you.
PRESS TO SEND THIS NO-COST FAX
Dear (Your 3 Members of Congress Will Appear Here),
I cannot fathom why Congress has not yet obliged employers to verify the eligibility of every new employee. Please support legislation that would require employers to use the E-Verify system so that our America's unemployed have a decent chance of finding a job.
America's jobless should not have to compete with illegal aliens for jobs, particularly during a recession. Mandating E-Verify would force employers to use the federal E-Verify system to check whether new hires are eligible to work in the U.S. Mandatory E-Verify will ensure that jobs are reserved for citizens and legal residents.
If you are not that familiar with E-Verify, you should know that 96.9 percent of those checked through E-Verify are automatically authorized for employment within seconds and an overall accuracy rate of 99.7%. The program has an extraordinarily high satisfaction rate. And contrary to what critics claim, E-Verify is not a burden on employers and cannot be used selectively for verification based on foreign appearance.
Our state's families are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet and should not have to compete against illegal aliens. Please do the right thing and support legislation that would mandate the use of E-Verify.
Sincerely, (Your Name Will Appear Here)

Planned Parenthood will close its Doylestown clinic
By Christina Kristofic Staff Writer | Posted: Friday, June 10, 2011 12:39 pm
Planned Parenthood will close its Doylestown clinic on June 28.
The decision to close the office came down to money, leaders of the organization said Friday.
"Medicaid rates are an issue. We are the only family planning center in Bucks County to receive funds under that program. For us to serve the uninsured, underinsured and low income individuals, it's an important part of what we do. For years, our funding has not covered the costs of our services," said Helen Bosley, interim CEO of the Planned Parenthood Association of Bucks County.
About 30 percent of Planned Parenthood of Bucks County's patients are served under Medicaid. Planned Parenthood of Bucks County spokeswoman Maggie Groff said the organization uses mid-level clinicians and nurse practitioners to keep costs down, but a visit still could cost about $150 and Medicaid might only pay $20. Groff said, "We lose that much money with each person who walks through the door. With the economy, we can't make that up through fundraising."

Rest of the State to Philadelphia: Drop Dead
CHRIS FREIND
And frankly, who can blame them?
Posted on 6/10/2011 |
The result? Almost 80 percent of voters just told Mayor Nutter "job well done" in last month's primary. That's the difference. Chicago is "the town that works." Philadelphia is completely dysfunctional.
Apathy gets you what you deserve. That passive neglect by city residents has led to Philly's very deserved reputation as a city of colossal failure, with virtually no promise of a renaissance-like turnaround. And the numbers bear that out.
A recent study by the Pew Charitable Trust says it all: those who have the means to leave the city do so - as evidenced by 263,000 white residents (one-third of that population) who fled over the last 20 years. Those who can't flee get further crushed by an abusive and incompetent government.

Who would have expected the Chinese to be The Forgotten Taxpayer's BFF? J
Yahoo/ Agence France-Presse reports: A Chinese ratings house has accused the United States of defaulting on its massive debt, state media said Friday, a day after Beijing urged Washington to put its fiscal house in order."In our opinion, the United States has already been defaulting," Guan Jianzhong, president of Dagong Global Credit Rating Co. Ltd., the only Chinese agency that gives sovereign ratings, was quoted by the Global Times saying.
The irony the serial, mass murdering totalitarian Mao Zedong comes to the rescue of the American Taxpayer. Pathetic when the Chinese government states the obvious truth and our own Administration obfuscates the effects of reckless expansion of Government Fiat Dollar Supply. It is hard to think of the dollar as real money anymore given the way it has been abusively devalued by our own government
Devaluing the currency as Federal Reserve does when it buys Federal Deficit Debt with Fiat Money devalues the real, as opposed to nominal, savings of every saver and diminishes value of real savings that can be invested in productive job creating business that raise the standard of living for all of us. The government (and Democrats) can ignore American savers and investors and buy off corporations with subsidies and special tax breaks but it can't ignore the Chinese.

Four More E-Verify Victories Could Push Congress Into Action |
There were four more huge E-Verify victories at the state and local level this week that will continue to pressure Congress into passing a national E-Verify bill!
Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Arizona's E-Verify bill, and this week, the Court ordered the Third Circuit Court of Appeals to review its ruling that suspend Hazleton, Pennsylvania's law requiring businesses in the city to use E-Verify.
In Alabama,Gov. Bentley signed what many are calling the nation's toughest state-level immigration enforcement bill that includes a provision requiring the use of E-Verify for all employers in the state. And in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott strengthened his original E-Verify executive order by adding specific language requiring subcontractors working on state contracts use E-Verify. Finally, Yakima, Washington's city council approved a mandatory E-Verify ordinances for all employers in the city.
Three bills requiring the use of E-Verify have already been offered in Congress -- two by Democrats (Shuler and DeFazio) and one by a Republican (Carter). The three bills combined have bipartisan support from 57 Members of Congress.
With all the state level action on E-Verify, dozens of articles have popped up in local newspapers and online blogs spreading some misinformation on E-Verify. Please be careful as you read stories about E-Verify, especially on websites, blogs and other news media that you usually trust. The fact is that those who benefit from illegal immigration are spending huge sums of money to plant most of these stories to create negative impressions about E-Verify that simply aren't true.
Jeremy, our Director of the Media Standards Project, posted two blogs this week that focus on some of the misinformation. Please read these and prepare yourselves for the PR battle that will rage the next few weeks as the U.S. House of Representatives begins to move a national mandatory E-Verify bill through committees. All of these state and local E-Verify victories over the last few months and years have brought us to this cusp of finally having a big positive victory in Congress. Please help us create a Truth Brigade to make sure we don't lose this once-a-decade opportunity.
Thanks,

From: Gary L. Bauer Staff Bails Out On Newt
Newt Gingrich's campaign for the GOP presidential nomination suffered a major blow late yesterday when all of his senior aides resigned. In addition to "inside the beltway" political advisors, Gingrich also lost his national campaign co-chairman, former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, who defected to former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty's campaign. Obviously this is a serious setback, but Gingrich immediately issued a statement pledging to forge ahead with his campaign as he rebuilds a staff. He will deliver a major foreign policy speech over the weekend and participate in a big New Hampshire GOP debate on Monday.
Meanwhile, speculation is rampant about what happened. Fred Barnes of the conservative Weekly Standard reported this morning that staff discontent exploded when Gingrich refused to step up his campaigning and fundraising in the important early primary states. Top aides also reportedly resented that Newt's wife, Callista Gingrich, was emerging as Gingrich's most influential advisor. Her concept of the right strategy for her husband differed substantially from the staff's, according to Barnes.
Is this the end of the line for the man some believe is the smartest GOP contender for 2012? Not necessarily. Historically, other candidates have overcome similar staff turmoil. But the hill Gingrich has to climb has now become a lot steeper.
Disgusting Big Media "Orgy"
This afternoon the State of Alaska will release to the public 24,000 emails from Sarah Palin's office and personal accounts. The release comes after two years of pressure from major news organizations for access to the communications. What will follow is a big media "orgy" of distortion and destruction. The Washington Post solicited 100 online volunteers to help them go through the emails. The New York Times has created a special place on its website for readers to search and report on anything damaging they can find to kick Palin again. The LA Times is deploying a similar strategy.
These newspapers have consistently failed to investigate various questions and controversies related to Barack Obama. None of them insisted on seeing emails from Obama's senate office. During the 2008 presidential campaign, none of them wanted to pursue whether candidate Obama had knowledge of his pastor's regularly delivered racist sermons. None have demanded the release of his college records nor have they demanded an audit of the sources of his campaign contributions, in spite of suggestions that some portion of those funds came illegally from foreign donors. The LA Times refuses to release an audio tape they have that reportedly links Obama to a notorious anti-Semitic Palestinian extremist.
What is going on is clear. Major media outlets are willing to engage in the politics of personal destruction ONLY when conservatives are the target.
Exxon's Triumph
While Washington's political class continues to pursue failed economic policies, American businesses, particularly those in our energy industry, continue to find the fuel to drive our future economic growth. The latest success story is Exxon Mobil, which has hit a massive oil find in the Gulf of Mexico. The Obama Administration has issued permits for only 15 new deep water wells in the Gulf since last year. The Exxon find should lead the government to rethink its restrictions.
Now consider this: the Exxon well is 230 miles out at sea. It struck oil at 7,000 feet below sea level! The company estimates there are 700 million barrels of oil in the field - oil that will fuel your car and help our economy get back on its feet.
Of course, here in D.C., politicians love to hate the oil industry. They don't like the insurance, pharmaceutical, banking, investing, coal or a dozen other industries either. They don't like McDonald's food or Wal-Mart's stores, and they don't like Boeing for creating jobs in the right-to-work state of South Carolina.
But the fact is that these industries - not the Washington politicians - create jobs. Millions of Americans' livelihoods depend on the businesses that the political class and their media allies constantly bash and undermine and try to over tax and over regulate. The politicians want you to despise your employer instead of the failed policies that are choking our economy. Don't fall for it.

Initial Jobless Claims Rise Again
The Department of Labor reported this morning that new jobless claims for the latest week UNEXPECTEDLY rose by 1,000, to 427,000. I repeat: those are NEW claims, my friends, and the report makes eight weeks in a row during which the claims have averaged in the range of 420,000. As we have written before the "unexpected" phenomenon is getting to be ridiculous. Month after month commentators, economists and government officials continue to be shocked by statistics that are worse than they anticipated. Their shock may stem from the fact that in many cases they are socialists who continue to believe the myth that socialism works. They wanted deficit spending, bigger government and more regulation, and they just can't believe it hasn't resulted in a thriving economy. Interestingly, the American people aren't surprised at all - they are expecting more bad economic news to come.
If this keeps up, we will likely see headlines in November of 2012 that read Obama UNEXPECTEDLY loses election.
Is ObamaCare In Trouble?
Lawyers battled yesterday over ObamaCare in front of a three judge panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. The results did not bring joy to the White House. At issue was whether the federal government can constitutionally order American citizens to buy a product - in this case health insurance. The judges were skeptical.
Chief Judge Joel Dubina told Obama's acting Solicitor General, Neal Katyal, "I can't find any case like this. If we uphold this, are there limits" on the power of the federal government? Judge Stanley Marcus seemed troubled too, asking, "Is there anything that suggests Congress can do this?"
Of course, the skeptical questions, taken alone, don't tell us what the court's final vote will be. And no one knows what a narrowly-divided Supreme Court will do. But the 26 states that have joined the lawsuit against ObamaCare were certainly encouraged by what they heard. And any American who cares about our Constitution has to be happy that there are still some judges on our courts who believe it is the "owners' manual" of our Republic and hence cannot be ignored by politicians of either party.
Foreign Policy Disaster Ahead
Obama got a brief bounce in polls last month when a U.S. Seal team took out Osama bin Laden in a daring raid. White House political operatives are already working on the ads featuring the raid that will be used to sell Obama in the 2012 campaign as a strong Commander-in-Chief. But if a Rand Corporation analyst is correct, the Obama campaign may have to go back to the drawing board.
Analyst Gregory Jones, using the most recent data available from the International Atomic Energy Agency, has predicted that Iran could have enough enriched uranium to produce a nuclear weapon sometime this summer. If Jones is correct and Iran tests such a weapon, Obama will have passively presided over a foreign policy disaster for the United States that would be of much greater significance than the death of Osama bin Laden.
An Iranian nuclear weapon will set off an arms race in the Middle East and push many countries in the region into the Iranian sphere of influence. It would represent a threat to our troops in the region and to Israel, our most reliable ally. Obama is most vulnerable on his economic failure, but it would be a mistake for the GOP nominee to take national security off the table in the 2012 campaign.
2012 Report
- BREAKING NEWS - It was announced that Newt Gingrich's top campaign staff have resigned. Stay tuned for more details.
- Mitt Romney is campaigning in his "home state" of Michigan today (Romney's father was governor from 1963-1969). The state has been safely Democrat in recent presidential elections, but Romney's campaign argues he could put it in the GOP column.
- Governor Pawlenty was endorsed by South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson (famous for yelling "you lie" during Obama's speech to congress). He also got a nod from former General Electric CEO Jack Welch, who said Pawlenty "appeals to me." Welch could help open a lot of wallets for Pawlenty.
- Sarah Palin wrapped up her bus tour with a well done 3-minute web video showing the positive crowds, and Glenn Beck announced that Herman Cain will take part in Beck's August rally in Israel.

A business writer for the New York Times, Gretchen Morgenson identifies the guilty parties for the subprime lending disaster and the destruction of American wealth and jobs that followed. .. Yes, greedy Wall streeters had a role. But so did a bunch of groups and individuals you would not expect to be named by a New York Times writer, including the Democratic Party establishment, ,Fanny and Freddie, Barney Frank, community organizing groups such as ACORN and la Raza, Nancy Pelosi, and Henry Cisneros. The deregulatory climate was set by the Democrats so as to get more low income people into homes (that they could not afford to pay for). . Richard Baehr

Fanniegate: Gamechanger For The GOP?
Walter Russell Mead
Democrats, watch out.
The Republican Party and especially its Tea Party wing have just acquired a new weapon of mass destruction - and it has nothing to do with any of Congressman Wiener's rogue body parts. If they deploy this weapon effectively in the next election cycle - a big if - then they have the biggest opportunity to move the country rightward since Ronald Reagan took the oath of office back in 1981.
The Tea Party WMD stockpile is currently stored in book form: Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed, and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon. By Gretchen Morgenson, one of America's best business journalists who is currently at The New York Times, and noted financial analyst Joshua Rosner, Reckless Endangerment gives the best available account of how the growing chaos in the mortgage and personal finance markets and the rampant bundling of dubious loans into exotically toxic securities plunged the world, and millions of American families, into the gravest financial crisis since World War Two. It is gripping reading as well, and its explanations are clear enough that readers without any background in finance will have no trouble following the plot. The villains? An unholy alliance between Wall Street, the Democratic establishment, community organizing groups like ACORN and La Raza, and politicians like Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi and Henry Cisneros. (Frank got a cushy job for a lover, Pelosi got a job and layoff protection for a son, Cisneros apparently got a license to mint money bilking Mexican-Americans of their life savings in cheesy housing developments.)

Who's worse: Weiner or Alec Baldwin?
Just when it didn't seem possible to stoop any lower than disgraced Congressman Anthony Weiner - Alec Baldwin comes to the rescue. Baldwin - an actor, possible NYC Mayoral candidate, and really mean to his 'little pig' daughter - says Weinergate was no big deal and that he was probably just blowing off steam. Glenn plays the audio of Baldwin chewing out his 11-year-old daughter via voicemail and wonders, if it were Weiner vs. Baldwin running for Mayor - who would he vote for? The answer HERE.

Rick Perry 2012?
Newt Gingrich is having some problems as several key members of his staff have quit, leaving the impression Newt's campaign is near breathing its last. Who will fill the void? Rumors are swirling that Texas Governor Rick Perry is strongly considering making a run for the GOP Presidential nomination. Co-host Pat Gray has had issues with Perry in the past. Is Perry the right guy for the job? Glenn, Pat and Stu discuss on radio.
Can Herman Cain survive controversial comments?
Herman Cain is a Tea Party fav because he isn't a groomed politician. He's an outsider who says what he means and means what he says. The problem with that is, of course, he'll eventually hack someone off. He's sparked controversy lately with his comments about gays and also his comments about Muslims. Can he survive them? Glenn plays the clips in question and responds on radio today.
Pat's audio vault CLASSICS
Pat had to do some spring cleaning with his audio vault, whatever that means. All you need to know is that before he 'cleaned' out some clips to make room for new ones, some incredible classics were aired on radio today. Politico caught making up Palin quote
There is a dangerous trend happening on the internet - people think it's fun to make up quotes and spread them around. It's bad enough when people are spreading false Abe Lincoln quotes in which Honest Abe says something like 'Obamacare is unconstitutional' - but it's even worse when news outlets get in on the act. Politico got busted fabricating a Palin quote from her bus tour - and she called them out. Read the false quote and the story at The Blaze.
