"And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution."

"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government. We have talked to all the power brokers. The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God. It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.
"In August, whether I'm there with seven people or 10 people or there alone, I will stand. I ask you to join me. The Dreyfuss Initiative: An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 7-9 PM at The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia
A FREE EXCLUSIVE ONE-NIGHT ONLY EVENT FOR LISTENERS OF THE NEW TALK RADIO 1210, WPHT
Academy Award winning actor Richard Dreyfuss is best known for starring in film, television, and theater roles since the late 1960s, including the films American Graffiti, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Goodbye Girl, Stakeout, Always, What About Bob? and Mr. Holland's Opus. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1977 for The Goodbye Girl, and was nominated in 1995 for Mr. Holland's Opus.
Now, Richard Dreyfuss is taking on a new role. The Oscar-winning actor is Founder and President of The Dreyfuss Initiative, which calls for a cross-curricular study of civics in our public schools that incorporates...
- HISTORY - LOGIC - REASON - CRITICAL THINKING
The Dreyfuss Initiative, a nonprofitorganization committed to revitalizing America's civic culture. Richard also serves on the American Bar Association's Education Committee, the Board of the National Constitution Center, and was Senior Research Advisory Member of St. Antony's College, Oxford University.
THIS WILL BE AN ENTERTAINING EVENING FOR PARENTS, FOR STUDENTS, FOR EVERYONE!
Richard will share why he believes that too many of us don't realize the power we hold in a democracy. The solution, he says, is to change the way students learn about civics, the study of the rights and duties of citizenship. Learn why we need a national standard that calls for teaching reason, logic and critical thinking skills before teaching government as a way of providing perspective and context in civics classes.
ARE AMERICAN STUDENTS PREPARED TO INHERIT THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR GREAT NATION?
Richard Dreyfuss joins 1210s Dom Giordano for this unique 2-hour LIVE event and will lay out the critically important issues, and discuss why he believes we must be preparing our nation's next generation to be effective and engaged citizens.
The event is free. Seating is limited. You must register to attend.

Last Monday some of us went to Baltimore to attend Brigitte Gabriel's conference. There were approximately 500 to 600 people. The conference started with an overview of the story of ACT for America and how it's organization and effort are affecting so much of the whole country. How members of a local chapters help influence the US Congress. The ACT presentation also included several little videos about big chapters and how they worked, and an extensive report about all legislative victories that without ACT wouldn't have taken place.
People were in silent, expectant, and taking notes.
After the video showing the ACT machine in full operation, Brigitte spoke of Lebanon, an example of prosperity and generosity, one of the most advanced civilizations, the Paris combined with the Swiss Banking Center of the Middle East with its mythological Mediterranean beaches and woods of cedars mentioned in the Bible, that were destroyed by tanks, bombs, and fedayines, attacks every night until it was left to smoking shambles and destruction.
Hospitality and the pride of accepting all races religions and cultures returned blood and death instead.
Soon it became clear that this was not going to be just a common conference as sparks started to illuminate the spirits. The public started to applaud frantically standing thrilled with admiration and enthusiasm.
Brigitte had the ability to make us all feel her vibration and her spiritual strength as if it was our own. The only thing that crossed my mind was to thank God to have sent such a talented communicator. I intend to bring Brigitte to the Union League in Philadelphia.
So, if you don't want to start seeing burkas in our neighborhoods, if you don't want no-go zone's around us, if you don't want to be surrounded by terrorist training camps, if you don't want to have honor killings and shariah law in our midst, please RSVP and let me know that you will support bringing Brigette to our area.
So please let me know your thoughts and wishes. Will you help? Will you fight with us?
RSVP: YES?

RedState Morning Briefing
For June 1, 2011
1. Weinergate Continues With Four Questions
It is becoming increasingly obvious that Anthony Weiner sent a college co-ed a picture of his . . . well I'm not sure which word I should use . . . weiner . . . on twitter.
CNN Reporter Dana Bash has the four questions Congressman Weiner needs to answer:
1. Is the picture of the Congressman?
2. Why did the Congressman hire a lawyer?
3. Why won't the Congressman let law enforcement handle the matter?
4. Why is Congressman Weiner following a 21 year old college student on twitter?
For those of you unfamiliar with twitter, you have the ability to follow other people on Twitter. It is not automatic. You must opt to do it. And Congressman Weiner had, prior to this incident, opted to follow the Seattle college student to whom the picture was sent.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
2. House votes against raising debt ceiling, 318-97.
Which is a surprise, given that I didn't think that there were 318 Republicans in the House... no, wait, there aren't. 82 Democrats voted against raising the debt limit without accompanying spending cuts; which is highly entertaining, given that 114 House Democrats signed Rep. Peter Welch's letter requesting... precisely this vote. Do compare the signatories to said letter with the no votes on HR 1954: you will notice an entertaining amount of overlap, there.
The hysterical bit? The Democrats are complaining that they didn't get to add amendments to the bill.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
3. Obama Seeks Final Death Blow to Auto Industry
President Obama is trotting out yet another policy aimed at forcing American's to change our ways and embrace the green. Just a few weeks ago, the administration floated the idea of adding yet more taxes to our already overtaxed cars to serve the dual purpose of shoring up revenues as well as curbing driving habits (which one would assume can't both be accomplished simultaneously, but I digress).
He also famously demanded more green to come out of Chrysler during the bailouts. Not green as in cash of course, rather green in the environmental whacko dream of tiny cars devoid of style and features. Luckily for the American taxpayer, Chrysler realized how bad for business this would be and promptly ignored the demands of the green police in favor of gas guzzling SUV's which have helped put the company in a position to pay back government loans.
But now President Obama is embarking on something long promised to his environmental base in the hopes that he can change our habits so he can keep his campaign promise of slowing the rising oceans and healing the Earth.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
4. Sarah Palin Opposes All Energy Subsidies
As the presidential election heats up, we will continue to track where the candidates stand on ethanol and energy subsidies. The issue of ethanol subsidies is vital to conservatives for several reasons. First, ethanol epitomizes everything that is wrong with onerous government interventions; corporate cronyism, market distortions, higher prices for vital goods and services, and government dependency. Also, with food and energy prices at an all time high, ethanol subsidies will provide the eventual Republican nominee with a unique opportunity to use bread and butter issues to educate voters about the virtues of the free market.
Finally, and most importantly, if the Republican nominee lacks the temerity to rebuff a handful of corn welfare recipients in Iowa, he/she will certainly lack the moxie to cut trillions from the millions of dependents on the welfare state.
Last week, Mitt Romney embraced ethanol, Tim Pawlenty disavowed his support for ethanol (while speaking in Iowa), and Newt Gingrich....well, he is Professor Cornpone. Today, Sarah Palin rejected all energy subsidies in a brief interview with reporters in Gettysburg.

Defend Israel.
LIBERAL MYTH NO. 3: The Great Apartheid Wall. Liberals get almost sexually aroused by the thought of the evil, Berlin-style wall that supposedly divides the fascistic Israelis from the innocent, peace-loving Palestinians. The news media routinely features the tiny percentage (only about 10 percent) of the wall that is made of concrete.
REFUTATION: The rest of the "wall" is actually a rather flimsy-looking fence, made of what appears to be pre-fab sections of high grade plastic. It is made to be light precisely so it can be moved easily. Parts of it have been taken down where it is no longer needed. Israel also has a very active justice system, and challenges to the fence's placement are constantly being considered. The fence has been moved many times in response to court decisions. Its effectiveness (suicide bombings within Israel have ceased almost completely since the fence was put in place) comes not from the bulk or the height of the fence, but because Israel's famous high-tech smarts have been applied to its design with it wired to capture sound and motion and arranged in such away as to collect footprints. |
The article below calls attention to our own enslavement to the oil economy, whose greatest beneficiaries are hard-core Islamists. Like a wise slavemaster who knows that demanding too much will incite a slave revolt, the Saudis recognize that they can only manipulate the oil supply to a certain degree, and that to demand too high a price will cause the West to revolt and flee to alternative energy sources. As Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal said, "We don't want the West to go and find alternatives, because, clearly, the higher the price of oil goes, the more they have incentives to go and find alternatives."
To see the entire interview between The Prince and Fareed Zakaria, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeO1VAVKmVk . It's well worth viewing because it provides insights on a wide array of issues. For example, another key point the prince makes is how the Saudi government once funded jihadists who they believed were "only trying to advance Islam." Once it became clear that the jihadists were in fact terrorists capable of attacking the Saudis themselves, the Saudi government stopped supporting them. Doesn't that make you feel better?
Thanks for all the tip-offs, Mr. "One of the most successful investors in the world,"
Dave

Victory over sharia in Dearborn, Michigan!
Andrew Bostom, one of the featured speakers at our upcoming national conference, posted some great news over the weekend (see below).
Thanks to the efforts of our friends at the Thomas More Law Center, a judge ruled the free speech rights of a Christian evangelist trumped the efforts of Dearborn, Michigan to, in effect, impose sharia law's suppression of free speech.
Note especially the highlighted portion below regarding attitudes among Detroit-area Muslims regarding the imposition of sharia law.

First Amendment Trumps Sharia in Dearborn Andrew Bostom On May 29, 2011
[1]
Robert Muise, Senior Counsel for the Thomas More Law Center: Teaching us how to solve the problem of Sharia
A seminal, if ominous report [2] released May 17, 2011 by the Center for Security Policy described fifty appellate court cases from 23 states which involve conflicts between Islamic law-Sharia [3]-and American state law. Nothwithstanding the delusive mindslaughter [4] on display across America's political spectrum which denies Sharia [5] encroachment in the US, the CSP analysis revealed [2] that,
Sharia has been applied or formally recognized in state court decisions, in conflict with the Constitution and state public policy.
But the grim, seemingly inexorable, progressive acceptance of Sharia-based mores in the US-despite this totalitarian [3] religio-political "law" being antithetical to American law-was at least temporarily reversed late last week, in of all places, Dearborn, Michigan. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled [6] 2:1 on Thursday May 26, 2011 (in GEORGE SAIEG, Plaintiff-Appellant, v. CITY OF DEARBORN; RONALD HADDAD, Dearborn Chief of Police ) that Dearborn, and its police department, violated the free-speech rights of a Christian evangelist by barring him from handing out leaflets at an Arab-American street festival last year. The court's two judge majority opinion concluded [6],

Jerusalem Arabs ask Israel to remain in control
Monday, May 30, 2011 | Ryan Jones

The Israeli Knesset's Interior Committee met on Monday to discuss future control of Jerusalem as pressure mounts for Israel to surrender the city's eastern half to the Palestinian Authority.
Among those slated to address the committee were Arab residents of eastern Jerusalem who want to continue living under Israeli sovereignty.
That these Arabs would risk their lives to come forward and request to remain part of Israel debunks the international misconception most recently enunciated by US President Barack Obama that the Palestinian Arabs cannot reach their full potential or live dignified lives while under "Israeli occupation."
It also provides further evidence for the conclusion of Israel Today's recent cover story revealing that many Palestinian Arabs do not want an independent state, and already live in peace and prosperity with their Jewish neighbors.
Monday's Knesset gathering was called by lawmakers who are growing increasingly concerned over how parts of eastern Jerusalem are slowly falling under the de facto control of the Palestinian regime.
"Signs of Israeli sovereignty are disappearing in parts of Jerusalem that are behind the partition fence and their place is being taken by hostile elements," wrote the lawmakers. "This, despite the lack of any decision by the Knesset or the government on the matter."
They warned that this "impotence leads to the de facto division of Jerusalem."

A federal jury ended a four-week trial by convicting Kareem Ibrahim in the Eastern District of New York for a conspiracy to attack John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, New York, by exploding fuel tanks and the fuel pipeline under the airport, according to a report obtained by the National Association of Chiefs of Police. Ibrahim, an Imam, admitted that he had connections to radicals in Iran, as well.

Jerusalem Unification Day will again be celebrated in Israel and throughout the world with the exception of that 7th century alternate universe: the Muslim world.
It marks 44 years since the amazing and miraculous event took place when the Jewish people's 3,000 year old capital city was restored to the Jewish state in the 1967 Six-Day War.
For 19 long years, from 1948 to 1967, Jordan had occupied Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and the eastern half of Jerusalem. Only Pakistan and Britain had ever recognized Jordan's illegal occupation.
The British officered Jordanian Arab Legion had forced out at gunpoint the Jewish residents of the Old City and the neighboring Jewish villages: It was Apartheid and ethnic cleansing, Arab style.
The Legion went on to desecrate the Jewish graves on the ancient Mount of Olives and use the headstones as latrines. They desecrated over 50 synagogues and forbade Jewish pilgrims to worship at their holy places. They had turned...

The killing of Osama Bin Laden by American Navy SEALs forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan in early May represents a new peak in the ongoing tension between the United States and Pakistan regarding the issue of combating terror in general, and in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas within Pakistan's sovereign territory in particular. Nevertheless, at this stage, the two sides are avoiding an irreparable divide based on their clear mutual interests: Pakistan needs the economic support of the United States and aims to prevent unilateral American backing for India, Pakistan's bitter rival, and the United States needs comprehensive Pakistani assistance in the war against regional and international terrorist elements - the Taliban, the Haqqani Network, and al-Qaeda - whose ability to act against the interests of the United States is dependent, to a large extent, on Pakistan's policy toward them.

The Forever War Act of 2012! Please read and Act!"The best slaves are those that think they are free" Goethe
Infowars.com May 26, 2011
The Defense Authorization Act or H.R. 1540, aka The Forever War Act of 2012, was overwhelmingly approved by the House of Representatives earlier today on a vote of 322 to 96.
The Senate will now vote on its own version and then the two bills will need to be reconciled before going to Barry Obama for his signature into law.
The law authorizes the United States to use military force anywhere it says there are terrorists, including within the borders of our own country. It represents the largest hand-over of unchecked war authority from Congress to the executive branch in modern American history.
The founders were seriously opposed to handing this much power over to executive, fearing tyranny. If enacted into law, this provision will make Obama a dictator who can wage war without the consent of the American people.

What's next is up to Right to Work supporters like you.
Last week, Congressman Steve King (R-IA) introduced the National Right to Work Act (H.R. 2040) in the U.S. House.
You can bet the Big Labor hierarchy will put tremendous pressure on every member of Congress to protect their power.
That's why it's absolutely vital we turn up the heat.
Please click here to urge your Congressman to cosponsor the National Right to Work Act.
As you know, this legislation would enshrine the common-sense principle -- already enforced in 22 states -- that no worker should be compelled to join or pay dues to a union just to get or keep a job.
In an age of legislative overreach, this is one of the shortest bills ever introduced.
A National Right to Work Act does not add a single word to federal law. It simply removes language in the National Labor Relations Act that gives union bosses the power to extract dues and fees from nonunion workers.
And as we've seen in Wisconsin, Indiana, and elsewhere so far this year, the union bosses will do anything to protect their government-granted forced-dues powers.
That's why I need your help.
I have an aggressive plan to push the National Right to Work Act onto the front-burner of U.S. politics.
First, through a large, national petition campaign we will ramp up the pressure to secure the maximum number of co-sponsors in the House and Senate.
Then, working with our allies, we will secure hearings in both chambers to expose the abuses of forced-unionism and its cost to America in lost jobs, bloated government and corrupt politics.
Finally, we will really turn up the heat - mail, phones, email and internet ads, radio, even TV ads if funding permits - as the National Right to Work Act comes to a vote on the floor of the U.S. House and Senate.
This is an ambitious program.
I can't do it alone.
Please, contact your Congressman right away. Click here to urge your Congressman to cosponsor the National Right to Work Act.
And please consider chipping in with a contribution of $10 or more today.
Internet mobilization. Massive public information campaigns. Even radio and TV ads.
It's all expensive. But just chipping in $10 or more today will go a long way.
Your help has been critical so far. I know I can count on you as we push forward.
Sincerely, Mark Mix
P.S. Congressman Steve King (R-IA) introduced the National Right to Work Act (H.R. 2040) in the U.S. House.
This critical legislation would strip union bosses of the government-granted power to extract dues and fees from independent-minded employees as a condition of employment.
Please click here to urge your Congressman to cosponsor the National Right to Work Act, and if you can, please chip in with a contribution of $10 or more today.
The National Right to Work Committee is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, single-purpose citizens' organization dedicated to combating compulsory unionism through an aggressive program designed to mobilize public opposition to compulsory unionism and, at the same time, enlist public support for Right to Work legislation. The Committee's mailing address is 8001 Braddock Road, Springfield, Virginia 22160. The Committee can be contacted toll-free at 1-800-325-7892. Its web address is http://nrtwc.org/

House Rejects Bill to Raise Debt Limit
Published May 31, 2011 | Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- House Republicans dealt defeat to their own proposal for a $2.4 trillion increase in the nation's debt limit Tuesday, a political gambit designed to reinforce a demand for spending cuts to accompany any increase in government borrowing.
The vote was lopsided, with just 97 in favor of the measure and 318 against.

Military Commission to Review List of Charges Against 9/11 Suspects
Published May 31, 2011 | FoxNews.com
For the second time, U.S. prosecutors have filed charges with a military commission against the five suspects held in Guantanamo Bay in connection with planning the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
This is the first step paving the way for an arraignment.
The body that oversees the commissions will make a decision on whether to accept the charges. If accepted, the arraignment must take place within 30 days. That will essentially begin the trial process, though pre-trial motions could take as long as a year.

Supreme Court Upholds Arizona's E-Verify Law In a landmark decision that has broad implications for immigration enforcement at the state level, the United States Supreme Court Thursday upheld the Arizona Legal Workers Act. Passed in 2007, the Act has two major components: (1) it requires Arizona employers to use the federal E-Verify system; and (2) it allows Arizona to suspend and/or revoke the business licenses of employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. The Chamber of Commerce filed a lawsuit in 2007 seeking to strike down the Arizona law, arguing that both provisions were preempted by federal law. However, in Thursday's 5-3 decision in Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting, 563 U.S. __ (2011), the Supreme Court rejected each one of the Chamber's arguments and held that Arizona's law is constitutional.

House Immigration Subcommittee Holds Hearing on Bill to Keep Criminal Aliens Behind Bars The House Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement held a hearing last week to debate Judiciary Chairman Rep. Lamar Smith's (R-TX) new bill H.R. 1932, the "Keep Our Communities Safe Act." H.R. 1932 grants the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) the authority to detain dangerous aliens who have been ordered deported, but cannot be removed. "Just because a criminal immigrant cannot be returned to their home country does not mean they should be freed into our communities. Dangerous criminal immigrants need to be detained," Chairman Smith asserted in his opening remarks at the hearing.

Rohrabacher Seeks to End Health Care Subsidies for Illegal Aliens This month Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) reintroduced H.R. 1822, the "No Health Care Subsidies for Illegal Aliens Act," to prevent illegal aliens from receiving health insurance subsidies under the new health care law. By applying a documentation provision currently part of the Medicaid to the new health care law, the legislation would close verification loopholes in the 2010 health care reform law (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148)) to ensure U.S. taxpayers are not footing the bill for illegal aliens' health care.

For the better part of a week, Netanyahu and President Barack Obama engaged in a fraught pas de deux, beginning with the president's speech at the State Department the day before Netanyahu's arrival and culminating in the prime minister's address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday. It was indisputably riveting, but plainly there was no consensus on what it meant.

My Friend of the Second Amendment,
ONCE AGAIN---our Constitutional rights have been breached!
The Second Amendment and others have filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in California, seeking to have the state's definition of so-called "assault weapons" declared unconstitutionally vague. Joining SAF and Calguns in the lawsuit is Brendan John Richards, an Iraq combat veteran who served as a United States Marine, and whose arrest and six-day incarceration in the Sonoma County jail --- and subsequent dismissal of all charges - was the catalyst for this legal action. Named as defendants are California Attorney General Kamala Harris, the California Department of Justice, the City of Rohnert Park and police officer Dean Becker.
Richards was jailed in May 2010 after Officer Becker, investigating a disturbance at a motel where Richards was staying, learned that Richards had two pistols and a rifle, all unloaded, in the trunk of his car. Becker arrested Richards for unlawful possession of an assault weapon. However, in September of last year, the charges were dismissed by the Sonoma County District Attorney's office, based on a report from the state Department of Justice that showed none of the guns met the state's definition of an assault weapon.
Please CLICK HERE to give a generous DONATION to the Second Amendment Foundation to assist us in communicating about the real benefits to gun-owners in adhering to the Second Amendment! We continue to be right in the middle of the fray and discussions of gun-owner rights as we exercise our freedoms which the Second Amendment guarantees! We must continue to fight for our freedoms in the courts!! California's law allows possession of a variety of firearms that do not meet the state's assault weapons definition, which we believe is unconstitutionally vague. Mr. Richards was jailed for almost a week, when he had broken no law because a police officer had a conflicting view and the District Attorney's office believed him.
"California attempts to make a distinction among firearms where no natural one exists. The generic definition of so-called 'assault weapons' was simply an attempt to prohibit possession of guns that look scary," noted Calgun's Executive Director Gene Hoffman.
Plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Don Kilmer of San Jose and Jason A. Davis of Mission Viejo. Kilmer said the case is indicative of the way things have become in California.
"Now that the right to keep arms has correctly been recognized as fundamental and applicable to California," Kilmer said, "gun owners can't be faced with the practice of 'arrest them first and let the courts sort it out' for exercising constitutional rights. That is just how things are done in our country."
We must come against this in every way!
This is just one of numerous lawsuits that the Second Amendment Foundation has taken on. EACH lawsuit has a "price-tag" of $60,000 - $80,000!!
But, guaranteed it, we are in this battle for YOU.
Every owner of a weapon - 80,000,000 of us -should be indebted to the Second Amendment Foundation, for standing up in various courts of law, to defend the Second Amendment - the rights to keep and bear arms!
This is not some far-out political group...this, according to our Founding Forefathers, is a "mainstream" group of those who adamantly cling to the Second Amendment of the Unite States Constitution!
Sincerely,
Alan M. Gottlieb Chairman Second Amendment Foundation
P. S. Please help us to communicate information so our pro-gun forces will be victorious. Not just because of you and me---but because our United States Constitution demands that freedom!

Dear friends,
Given Americans' pain at the pump and our country's stagnant economy, you'd expect the Obama administration to do everything in its power to secure vital resources and spur economic growth. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
Hillary Clinton's State Department is holding up the Canadian-American Keystone XL pipeline-a construction project that would transport crude oil from Alberta, Canada to Oklahoma and Texas oil refiners. Not only would the Keystone pipeline secure vital resources from a trusted ally, it would provide an economic boon for struggling Midwestern states.
[Take Action Now]
Unnecessarily inhibiting billions in economic activity and hundreds of thousands of jobs from being created, the State Department is preventing a much-needed regional stimulus. Click here to tell the State Department to get out of the way of America's job creators and issue the Keystone XL pipeline building permit!
Onward,

Our first lady: Bitter harridan
May 31, 2011
The axiom, "Show me a man's friends and I'll show you the man," is nowhere more evident than with Barack Obama. In my column "Michelle Obama's inner demons," I wrote "[Obama] claims two mentors and two people of greatest influence in his life - the race-baiting, hate-filled, Jeremiah Wright and his race-conscious, bitter wife." Nothing more need be said of Wright, but not enough can be said about his wife.
Anger and resentment have been her constant companions in search of a home to be cultivated into a more centered hatred. We should be very concerned that she has the unfettered ear of the person who occupies the most powerful office in the world.
Michelle Obama has a deep contempt for white people in America - something she has not been shy in making expressly clear for those who have cared to listen.

Administration Policies to Blame for High Energy Prices

Report Finds Administration Policies to Blame for High Energy Prices
A new report from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform details a disturbing "pattern of evidence" indicating that not only are the Obama administration's energy policies responsible for higher oil and gas prices, but that the administration's energy policy, in fact, is higher gas prices, says the National Review.
Among the report's findings:

President Obama will not allow free trade without higher spending.
Create Jobs, Not More Welfare Spending
President Obama is blocking three job-creating free trade agreements that would boost domestic jobs by increasing our exports to South Korea, Panama and Columbia. The President is blocking this until he can extend an expensive and failed stimulus program.
That program, the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program, provides extensive benefits to workers displaced by foreign trade. TAA is costing taxpayers billions and billions of dollars each year and to date has produced paltry results. Furthermore, the workers the program effects are only a fraction of the currently unemployed -- only 1 percent.
The program shows no evidence that those enrolled received better, higher-paying jobs than those who did not receive TAA benefits. So why is President Obama insisting that this boondoggle is funded before he agrees to sign the free trade agreements?

Free trade creates jobs. TAA does not.
Instead of taking steps to actually reduce the number of unemployed in this country, President Obama has decided to hold jobs hostage in order to breathe new life into a failed welfare program. We cannot let this happen.

We Can Save Medicare
If we do not act now, the failure of leadership by President Obama and Democrats in Congress will lead our Medicare system to certain bankruptcy. We can save Medicare for current seniors and make sure it's around for our children and grandchildren by supporting Representative Paul Ryan.
In his "Path to Prosperity", Rep. Ryan has laid out a plan to save Medicare by creating a patient-centered system for seniors that gives them more choices for their health care while reining in exploding costs.
Rep. Ryan's plan ensures that present seniors in Medicare are not affected and provides a sustainable path for future enrollees. In the video below Rep. Ryan offers a powerful explanation of his plan, please watch it now:

It's simple, it's cost-effective and it puts the patient -- not bureaucrats -- in control. But President Obama and Democrats believe attacking Rep. Ryan's plan, while offering no solutions of their own for saving Medicare, is a winning electoral strategy: Attack Rep. Ryan, win the next election.
The problem is this "strategy" will come at the expense of seniors and taxpayers. Worst part is that President Obama has already admitted we're on an unsustainable course:
"Medicare is slated to go into the red in about eight to 10 years. I don't know if people are aware of that." - President Barack Obama, August 2009
We're aware Mr. President, now what are you going to do about it?
Please consider a dona tion to help us save Medicare and protect it for future generations.

Dem Weiner Fights to Control Lewd Photo Scandal

Rising Democratic star Rep. The newly married New York congressman insists that his account was hacked into. Genette Cordova, the woman who received the shot, backs his story, but that is doing little to halt the flood of questions about the affair. Chief among them is just who was the model for the picture of the bulging pair of gray underpants, and exactly what is Weiner's relationship with Cordova, who lives outside Seattle, nearly 2,500 miles from his congressional district.

Obama cracks down on abuses by big-city police departments
By Justin Elliott
Thomas Perez, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division, center, talks about a federal investigation of the Newark Police Department during a May 9 news conference with Newark Mayor Cory Booker, far left.
In a marked shift from the Bush administration, President Obama's Justice Department is aggressively investigating several big urban police departments for systematic civil rights abuses such as harassment of racial minorities, false arrests, and excessive use of force.
In interviews, activists and attorneys on the ground in several cities where the DOJ has dispatched civil rights investigators welcomed the shift. To progressives disappointed by Eric Holder's Justice Department on key issues like the failure to investigate Bush-era torture and the prosecution of whistle-blowers, recent actions by the DOJ's Civil Rights Division are a bright spot.

Dear Liberty Activist,
Covert, year-long sting operations.
Early morning raids.
Relentless interrogation and harassment.
Are these the aggressive actions of the federal government against suspects in the war on terror?
No. These describe the tactics of the Food and Drug Administration against everyday Americans like Amish farmer Dan Allgyer.
And now this farmer, his family, and his community don't know if their way of life will survive the statists' wrath.
What "crime" is the FDA finding him guilty of?
"Providing unpasteurized milk from healthy, grass-fed cows across state lines to members of cooperatives seeking unprocessed food."
These busybodies are misinterpreting the commerce clause to cite Allgyer's violation. Originally, this clause was intended to prevent states from prohibiting individuals from doing business with one another across state lines.
In other words, the federal food authorities are doing the exact opposite of their constitutional mandate and acting as out of control as the Federal Reserve and our "leaders" in Congress.
The FDA will cite "food safety" concerns to justify its actions, but you and I know the truth about its continued war against local food producers:
It's about helping out their Big-Ag buddies.
It's about control over you, your family, and your choices.
Well I don't know about you, but I've certainly had enough of these bureaucrats destroying the livelihoods of these hard-working Americans.
Please, call your representative and senators today to urge them to rein in the reckless FDA by stopping it from interfering with voluntary, private contracts between farmers and private citizens.
Also, send a message directly to the FDA by contacting them here.
Tell them to stop wasting your tax dollars on raids and spying operations on peaceful Amish farmers and members of private food groups.
Tell them to end their unjust civil suit against Amish farmer Dan Allgyer.
Tell them to do something more productive with their time.
The FDA has conducted many sting operations and raids against US farmers over the years, with this year-and-a-half long sting on the buying club connected to Allgyer only the most recent.
And now the food police are filing a civil suit against this Amish farmer for introducing into "interstate commerce" raw milk intended for human consumption and are giving him notice of a pending request for permanent injunction.
It is an obscene overreach of federal authority to try and shut down the private transactions between honest farmers and their willing consumers.
That's why each day more and more concerned activists like you are taking a stand against these brazen actions.
Earlier this month, hundreds of concerned citizens attended a rally in support of Allgyer and local food production.
When the government can tell you what you can eat, it can tell you who you are.
You and I must make our voices heard.

Intel report: Kenyans honor Obama's 'birthplace'Cultural museum commissioned in family's African village

| Barack Obama in visit with Kenyan relatives |
An internal bulletin from the Kenyan National Security Intelligence Service, or NSIS, states that the Kenyan government in 2009 commissioned a cultural museum in the Obama home village of Kogelo to honor the "birthplace of President Barack Obama" and rededicate the tomb of his father, Barack Obama Sr.
The 2009 NSIS bulletin report said:
The ministry of national heritage this month hosted a cultural festival in Kogelo and commissioned a cultural museum on a plot donated by a member of the Kogelo community. The cultural festival was attended by the minister for national heritage, William ole Ntimama and U.S. ambassador, Michael Ranneberger.
This was to honour the birthplace of President Obama and re-dedicate the tomb of Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., the president's late father. But the project had been delayed because of ownership wrangles surrounding the plot.

Ex-Intel Chairman Hoekstra Says There's "Dissent And Dislike" For Pres At CIA
by John Gizzi
05/31/2011
The former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee said last week that there is an undercurrent of "dissent and dislike" for President Obama among the rank-and-file of the Central Intelligence Agency. This hostility, former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) told HUMAN EVENTS, is the result of the continuing investigations of CIA agents regarding enhanced interrogation techniques of suspected terrorists-investigations, he emphasized, "of which the President and [U.S. Attorney General] Eric Holder should say, 'These proceedings are closed.'"

2012 Update
It has been a busy weekend for Republican presidential candidates and potential contenders, and the week ahead promises to be eventful as well. Here's a quick rundown.
- Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin toured Gettysburg this morning and is headed to Philadelphia today, after receiving a roaring reception in Washington, D.C., during yesterday's Rolling Thunder motorcycle event.
- Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty's campaign released a new web video summarizing his first week as an official candidate.
- Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum was on CNBC this morning to talk about his plans for the economy. He did a good job handling combative questions and drawing sharp contrasts between his views and the Obama agenda.
- Texas Rep. Ron Paul followed Santorum on CNBC and tried to argue that he was "mainstream."
- Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is taking on Barack Obama in media interviews, appearing on ABC and Fox News this morning.
- As he prepares his formal announcement later this week, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney declared the Obama Administration a failure on the "Today" show.
- Influential Iowa Republicans are in New Jersey today trying to persuade Governor Chris Christie to join the race.
- Last week, former New York Governor George Pataki hinted he might jump into the GOP contest.
House To Vote On Debt Limit
Kudos to House Republicans! They are scheduled to meet with President Obama tomorrow to discuss ways to move forward on the economy. But in advance of the meeting, the House will vote tonight on legislation demanded by President Obama to raise the debt ceiling without any restrictions on spending.
Virtually all House Republicans oppose allowing Obama and congressional Democrats to borrow more money without significant spending reforms. The question will be how many House Democrats vote against it too.
The polling is clear - most Americans don't want the debt limit increased. An overwhelming defeat for Obama's "clean" debt limit increase would strengthen the hand of House Republicans when they meet with the president tomorrow. If a significant percentage of Democrats also vote no, it will be harder for Obama to bash Republicans as obstructionists.
The Golfer-In-Chief
After he got his Memorial Day duty out the way, President Obama hit the golf course yesterday for his 70th round in two and a half years. In 2003, President George W. Bush gave up the game. He didn't think it was appropriate for the commander-in-chief to play golf during war time.
I don't begrudge President Obama a little rest and relaxation every now and then. But I would think that on Memorial Day itself, our commander-in-chief, who is held to a higher standard, might find more meaningful ways to spend the day.
In The News
- High gas prices aren't taking a toll on just the economy and family budgets. Our dependence on foreign oil is a major threat to our national security. As readers of this daily report know, I am a strong supporter of increased domestic oil exploration. I was pleased to read this weekend about a new oil boom in Texas.
I also support efforts of the SAFE coalition (Securing America's Future Energy) to reduce our consumption of foreign oil. SAFE is a coalition of business and military leaders who understand the need for secure, domestic supplies of energy.
One way we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil is through the use of vehicles powered by domestically produced electricity. SAFE's efforts are getting noticed in Washington, and you can learn more here and here. - The media love to portray President Obama as hip and on the cutting edge of technology. Obama's campaign was quick to seize on the organizing power of Facebook. But as I suggest in an op-ed at the Fox News website today, when it comes to the president's governing style, Obama could learn a thing - or four - from Facebook's values.
- Some high profile Republicans have taken a pass on the 2012 race, causing a lot of handwringing in Washington. But it's better for Republicans who are unwilling to go toe-to-toe against the Obama machine not to run. As last week's special election in New York proved, the Republican nominee had better be prepared for the fight of his or her life. That's the subject of my Human Events column this week, which you can read here.

Doomsday Prophets Who Never Say They're Sorry
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published May 30, 2011 on The Washington Times website.
Well, we're still here despite doomsday evangelist Harold Camping's warning of the end of the world on May 21 at 6 p.m. But wait. Mr. Camping says we're not out of the woods. He announced last week that "spiritual" doom occurred May 21 and physical destruction of the world will happen on Oct. 21. If he still has any acolytes after this, it will give new meaning to the term "credulous."
Here's his spin: "We didn't see any difference, but God brought Judgment Day to bear upon the whole world. The whole world is under Judgment Day, and it will continue right up until Oct. 21 - and by that time the whole world will be destroyed."
Well, I won't argue with Mr. Camping that God can't be pleased with the way America is abandoning its Judeo-Christian moorings. Lady Gaga's pansexual "Born This Way" video alone is ample evidence that we're no longer slouching toward Gomorrah but have entered its gates.

Supreme Court Releases Thousands of Imprisoned Felons
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published May 26, 2011 on The Washington Examiner website.
In a shocking and unprecedented move, the Supreme Court suddenly discovered that overcrowded prisons are unconstitutional. As a result, it has ordered up to 46,000 convicted felons released from California prisons.
Congress enacted the Prison Litigation Reform Act of 1995 (PLRA), specifying ways for managing prison populations and leaving it to state officials on how to achieve acceptable results. PLRA states that prison overcrowding can possibly violate federal rights.
California has overcrowded prisons. Some prisoners allege that as a result prisoners experience delays in receiving medical care or mental health treatment. Several inmates filed a federal suit, arguing that these prison conditions violate their right to due process under the Fourteenth Amendment and are also cruel and unusual punishment in violation of the Eighth Amendment.

Common Sense Versus Nonsense
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published May 25, 2011 on Townhall.com.
William J. McGee, the consumer advocate on the Department of Transportation's Future of Aviation Advisory Committee wrote "Forcing the F.A.A. to Fly Blind" in The New York Times (April 9, 2011), where he laments Congress' cut in the FAA budget, saying, "A $4 billion cut will necessarily reduce the work force further. And it's hard to imagine this will not diminish safety." Mr. McGee suggests there will be shortcuts in aircraft maintenance.
Here are a few facts and then a question. Each Boeing 747 costs $317 million, its 777 goes for $284 million and its 737 sells for $80 million. Airbus' giant 555-plus passenger A380 sells for $375 million. Here's a true or false statement: If it weren't for the FAA, airline company CEOs would not take the necessary measures to ensure that their aircraft took off and landed safely.
I'd say the statement is false. Even if CEOs didn't give a hoot about passengers, I'm betting that they do care, without FAA edicts, whether billions of dollars worth of aircraft landed and took off safely, and they will spend enough on maintenance to ensure that.

Jehovah or Marx?
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Policy Director for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published May 25, 2011 on The American Spectator website.
Years ago a man with a history as a careful investigator told me on the basis of his research into his own family tree that I was probably Jewish. He reached that conclusion because his research found that Italians with place names were usually descended from refugees of the Jewish diaspora who had taken the name of the place where they finally settled.
Ferrara is the name of a town in northwest Italy, an old mining town that came to be dominated by Marxist mining unions, unfortunately. Ferraro is the equivalent of Smith in Italian, a name denoting a profession as a blacksmith. But Ferrara is the name of the town of origin of my father's side of the family. My mother's side hails from Sicily, which culturally more suits my personality.
I was delighted to consider the possibility that I may, in fact, be of Jewish heritage. For as a Christian, I had read a lot about the history of the Jewish people in the Bible, and easily identified with them.

Tea Party News Tuesday, May 31st
As the GOP moves to the right, presidential hopefuls abandon old centrist stands | In the first presidential election since the tea party's emergence, Republican candidates are drifting rightward on a range of issues, even though more centrist stands might play well in the 2012 general election. On energy, taxes, health care and other topics, the top candidates hold positions that are more conservative than those they espoused a few years ago. The shifts reflect the evolving views of conservative voters, who will play a major role in choosing the Republican nominee. In that sense, the candidates' repositioning seems savvy or even essential. But the eventual nominee will face President Barack Obama in the 2012 general election, when independent voters appear likely to be decisive players once again. Those independents may be far less enamored of hard-right positions than are the GOP activists who will wield power in the Iowa caucuses, the New Hampshire primary and other nominating contests. Rick Perry Leaves the Door Open for 2012 Presidential Bid | Gov. Rick Perry of Texas opened the door perhaps for a run of his own. Asked on Friday if he would consider running for the Republican nomination, Perry replied, "I'm going to think about it." He added that he would focus on it after the Texas Legislature leaves Austin sometime after Tuesday. When reporters followed up asking Perry -- who had been issuing denials that he would enter the presidential race -- if he would change his mind, he said, "I didn't say I was running, did I? I'm going to think about it." [Sunshine State News, May 31] Click here for the full story

Supreme Court Inching Closer to States' Rights | Chief Justice John Roberts is one vote short of moving the Supreme Court to a position so conservative on states' rights that it would be to the right of the Tea Party's idea of limited government. That chilling possibility was evident in the court's recent ruling in the case of Virginia v. Stewart. The principle at stake dates back to a 1908 case, Ex parte Young, in which the Supreme Court held that federal courts have a paramount role in stopping a state from violating federal law. Bachmann: GOP race can handle me and Palin | Rep. Michele Bachmann, who is considering a run for the Republican presidential nomination, says she thinks the race can accommodate both her and Sarah Palin. Both women are favorites of the tea party movement. But Bachmann says she doesn't compare herself to Palin - she compares herself to President Barack Obama. Bachmann says there's "enough room for a lot of contenders" to challenge Obama in 2012. The Minnesota Republican says she considers Palin, the GOP's 2008 vice presidential candidate, a "friend," not a "competitor." But she told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday that she has no problem running against a friend. Bachmann spoke to ABC from New Hampshire, which holds the GOP's first presidential primary next year. She is expected to announce her campaign decision in Iowa next month. Borders
This - after President Obama suggested to PM Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel return to its 1967 borders:
Dear President Obama,
I am writing today with a somewhat unusual request. First and foremost, I will be asking that you return the United States to its August 20th, 1959 borders so that Hawaii is no longer a state and you are no longer a citizen.
Sincerely, Benjamin Netanyahu Prime Minister of Israel

A 62% top tax rate?
Back to the Carter years
Media reports in recent weeks say that Senate Democrats are considering a 3% surtax on income over $1 million to raise federal revenues. This would come on top of the higher income tax rates that President Obama has already proposed through the cancellation of the Bush era tax-rate reductions.
If the Democrats' millionaire surtax were to happen-and were added to other tax increases already enacted last year and other leading tax hike ideas on the table this year-this could leave the U.S. with a combined federal and state top tax rate on earnings of 62%. That's more than double the highest federal marginal rate of 28% when President Reagan left office in 1989. Welcome back to the 1970s.

Applying First Principles to the Issues of Today |
Remembering Memorial Day
On Memorial Day, we commemorate the more than 1.2 million soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. To discuss the meaning and history of Memorial Day, we sat down with Matthew Spalding, Vice President of American Studies at The Heritage Foundation.
NCS: When did we first begin to observe Memorial Day?
Spalding: There's nothing unusual about countries setting aside a day to celebrate their war dead - which is essentially what Memorial Day is. Ours began after the Civil War, in 1868, when veterans from the Civil War on both sides wanted to honor their war dead. Originally called Decoration Day, the event united northerners and southerners who wanted to honor those killed and who realized the great sacrifices that had been made. Memorial Day arises out of this unification and recognition of sacrifice after the Civil War, though it was not designated as a federal holiday until 1971. It's important to remember the history of the day before the holiday was made official.
NCS: All countries honor their war dead, as you point out. But isn't there something unique about the American understanding of Memorial Day?
Spalding: Yes. On Memorial Day, we remember these deadly events, and our soldiers' noble sacrifices and what they have done for us, but it's really a celebration of our country, and what it stands for. What is unique about the American understanding of Memorial Day is that it constantly harkens back to the memory of our founding principles. The great poet of this subject is Lincoln, especially in his speech at Gettysburg, where he talks about how "these dead shall not have died in vain." He links the acts of these soldiers (their giving of their lives, this great and honorable sacrifice) to the central truths of the American Founding. Lincoln says that we cannot consecrate the ground, but that it is for us, the living, to go on and bring about what he calls a "new birth of freedom." He connects the slain soldiers' virtuous sacrifice to the principles for which they died.
NCS: How did Americans observe Memorial Day, or Decoration Day as it was then called, after the Civil War?
Spalding: Back then, people would go to the graves of the war dead. At that time, a great number of the dead were actually buried at the battlefields - hence the great anniversaries and celebrations that occurred: Gettysburg, Antietam, etc. On the anniversary, you would go to the battlefield itself. As an example of this tradition, to this day, one of the greatest places where this celebration occurs is at Arlington National Cemetery. The President or the Vice-President still go there and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, who represents all of the American war dead. You'll also see soldiers there putting a flag at each individual grave. We celebrate today with parades and other things, but that's really where the celebration is.
NCS: What's the most important thing for people to keep in mind about Memorial Day?
Spalding: We must remember that this truly is a great celebration. On the one hand, it is a somber occasion, but what makes it great is remembering what our soldiers died fighting for. That's the key thing. For instance, in Lincoln's First Inaugural Address, he speaks about "the mystic chords of memory." And these are "our bonds of affection," he says, "stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearthstone" across the land. These things that bind us, that connect us together, tie us back to our beginning - to our principles, and to what makes America great - and that's what we're celebrating. But it's also a reminder that sometimes, our own citizens, our soldiers must give their lives for that honorable cause.

The Unstimulated Obama Economy
Newsflash from The New York Times: President Barack Obama's stimulus did not work. No, the Times doesn't say that in so many words, but in an op-ed this morning, the paper laments the sputtering economy and the fact that Washington just isn't doing enough to help the economy grow. The problem, of course, is that Washington has done too much of the wrong things to get the economy moving again.

Owned! Socialists confirm Glenn's craaaaazy 'conspiracy theory'
The way the media mocked Glenn during what they celebrated as a 100% pure as the driven snow Arab Spring is looking more and more silly with each passing day. First, the extremist anti-Israel Muslim Brotherhood have positioned themselves to grab power - and now, prominent socialists are openly bragging about how they 'coalesced' with other groups during this uprising to achieve one goal: end capitalism and the western way of life. Oh, and Israel is the 'enemy' and they, along with America, are the true obstacle to their socialist utopia. Hey! That's exactly what Glenn said all along! Watch the disturbing video HERE and get Glenn's reaction HERE.
Think your kids are being taught the Constitution? LOL
And when we say 'taught' we don't mean in the 'charter of negative liberties' type of way. We are living in a time when the American way of life is under attack from all angles - so it's more important now than ever to teach our kids about the important founding work our forefathers accomplished. That's why Glenn is especially excited to announce his newest book, The Original Argument: The Federalists' Case for the Constitution, Adapted for the 21st Century. Obama's CNN buddy scolds Netanyahu
CNN's Fareed Zakaria came out with the not surprising opinion that Benjamin Netanyahu was out of line disagreeing with Obama's Middle East proposal. How should Netanyahu have responded instead? Fareed says Netanyahu should have thanked President Obama for being so awesome to Israel. The segment almost sounded as if it were done by one of Obama's advisors -- oh, wait -- it was! Glenn played Fareed's Netanyahu b-slap on radio today, check out his reaction HERE.

PC: Asian student accused of being White Supremacist
One would think being Asian would be enough to dissuade people from labeling them a white supremacist, but apparently that's not the case. A group of students decided to wear white t-shirts on senior picture day and were reprimanded for doing so amidst accusations they intimidated other students and were white supremacists. What does the accused student, who is Asian, think about being labeled a white supremacist? Hear the audio and get Glenn's take at GlennBeck.com.
