"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government. We have talked to all the power brokers. The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God. It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.

The Dreyfuss Initiative: An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 7-9 PM at The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia
A FREE EXCLUSIVE ONE-NIGHT ONLY EVENT FOR LISTENERS OF THE NEW TALK RADIO 1210, WPHT
Academy Award winning actor Richard Dreyfuss is best known for starring in film, television, and theater roles since the late 1960s, including the films American Graffiti, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Goodbye Girl, Stakeout, Always, What About Bob? and Mr. Holland's Opus. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1977 for The Goodbye Girl, and was nominated in 1995 for Mr. Holland's Opus.
Now, Richard Dreyfuss is taking on a new role. The Oscar-winning actor is Founder and President of The Dreyfuss Initiative, which calls for a cross-curricular study of civics in our public schools that incorporates...
- HISTORY - LOGIC - REASON - CRITICAL THINKING
The Dreyfuss Initiative, a nonprofitorganization committed to revitalizing America's civic culture. Richard also serves on the American Bar Association's Education Committee, the Board of the National Constitution Center, and was Senior Research Advisory Member of St. Antony's College, Oxford University.
THIS WILL BE AN ENTERTAINING EVENING FOR PARENTS, FOR STUDENTS, FOR EVERYONE!
Richard will share why he believes that too many of us don't realize the power we hold in a democracy. The solution, he says, is to change the way students learn about civics, the study of the rights and duties of citizenship. Learn why we need a national standard that calls for teaching reason, logic and critical thinking skills before teaching government as a way of providing perspective and context in civics classes.
ARE AMERICAN STUDENTS PREPARED TO INHERIT THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR GREAT NATION?
Richard Dreyfuss joins 1210s Dom Giordano for this unique 2-hour LIVE event and will lay out the critically important issues, and discuss why he believes we must be preparing our nation's next generation to be effective and engaged citizens.
The event is free. Seating is limited. You must register to attend.

Michael J. TottenWhy Lebanon Matters As revolutions and uprisings overtake the Middle East-with Western forces in Libya, Basher Assad crushing Syrian rebels, and Egypt under tension-does little Lebanon matter? Very much so, argues Michael J. Totten, a foreign correspondent noted for his behind-the scenes conversations with many key players in the region-including Hezbollah. His new and insightful book, The Road to Fatima Gate, offers Totten's first hand experiences of the 2005 Cedar Revolution, the devastating 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, and the latter's progressive assault on Lebanon's elected government. A noted journalist-his work has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Jerusalem Post and many other publications-Totten will offer a sobering assessment of Lebanon and its overlooked significance in Middle East politics. RedState Morning Briefing
For May 26, 2011
1. The Washington Post Goes All-In On Left Crazy: Welcome Think Tanked!
Many of us received a spam email this morning from the Washington Post, announcing they'd hired yet another left-wing thug cheerleader (snazzy uniform optional) for yet another made-up reporting gig that will inevitably degenerate into yet another look-at-the-dirty-racist-conservatives event. After adding Greg "I Think Union Violence Is Progressive" Sargent and Ezra "The Constitution Is, Like, Really Old and Stuff" Klein, and the late Dave "Kyle MacLachlan After Floating Face Down in a Pool for a Day" Weigel, there is simply no way that the Post thinks anyone is buying the act, and is instead catering to a dwindling audience of baby boomers and Gen-Xers who still don't get all this internet stuff, but want to be reassured that Republicans are icky. Hey, with the for-profit college goldmine running dry, the Graham family needs to keep from being roasted alive by the shareholders. If you can sell worthless degrees to poor kids, you can cater to left-wing geezers.
So, a big welcome to Think Tanked! If we're lucky, we'll hardly know you.
The ridiculous part is that, as with the Post's prior additions to its cutting-edge online site - now redesigned to look more like a failing newspaper, but I repeat myself - there is simply no way to disguise the fairly clear left-wing advocacy at work here. Let's start with the press release
Please click here for the rest of the post.
2. On Zealots and Zealotry
I want to spend some time talking about zealots and zealotry. Already, the situation is growing out of hand, and I expect it to get even worse as we head further into campaign season. The Rebecca Mansour situation yesterday was a case in point. I cannot tell you the number of people who read the Daily Caller article and still emailed me under the belief that Ms. Mansour's email account had been hacked. Never mind her admission.
You know what I'm talking about.
Should any of you dare say anything in the slightest way critical of Sarah Palin, you will be savaged, attacked, and bloodied. The same holds true should you say anything critical of Herman Cain, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, or any of the other candidates, potential candidates, or also-rans.
This is not unusual, but I think this campaign season is going to be the worst we have seen in a very long time.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
3. The Fight of the Century
Much of the rhetoric coming out of Washington today is, not surprisingly, related to medicare and the impact it had on the special election in New York.
I am of the opinion that it did not have as much impact as other issues, but there is no denying it had some impact. It just wasn't, despite left-wing spin, the foundation of the GOP's disaster.
But, coming out of Washington today, the GOP is wringing its hands saying the public just doesn't understand, the Democrats are demagoguing the issue, and lying.
This, friends, is exactly what the Democrats said about the GOP on healthcare in 2010. The GOP should not reduce itself to repeating the Democrats mistakes or defensive rhetoric.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
4. The Willingness of the Press to Believe Democrat Spin
The press's ready willingness to believe Democrat spin is yet again driven home this morning by the Republican loss in New York last night. Immediately, the press was adopting Democrat spin that this was all about medicare. The press has a history of doing this.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
5. Lee Fang: Math is Hard
Lee Fang's job title at the Center for American Progress is "Researcher". Heh.
Honestly, I'd never heard of this guy until about a month ago, when he made the mistake of thinking he knew something about oil trading, accusing the Koch Brothers of rigging the markets for easy gains. His evidence was, you know, contango. Koch Brothers.
Today Fang attacked the freshman Republican from Arizona's First Congressional District, Paul Gosar. Gosar was at a town hall in his district, discussing, among other things, the Democratic proposal to raise tax rates on the wealthiest Americans.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
6. "Dirty Harry" Moves To Shut Out Pro-Gun Rand Paul Amendment
Remember the sleazy tactics used by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to pass ObamaCare? The secret meetings? The refusal to let the American people see the language? The "amendment tree" used to block Republicans from offering amendments on the floor? The use of a House-passed bill as a vehicle to circumvent Senate procedures?
Well, all of that sleaziness is back in connection with efforts to extend three anti-gun provisions of post-9/11 legislation.
In order to circumvent Kentucky Senator Rand Paul's pro-gun amendment to the bill, Reid has now scuttled the Senate version of the 9/11 extension, tacked everything onto a motion to concur with a House-passed small business bill, and employed a procedure to lock out ALL Republican amendments, including Paul's pro-gun amendment. Please click here for the rest of the post.

Start a rumor:
Obama's regulatory czar Cass Sunstein has used the profits from his bestselling book Nudge to create what is believed to be the world's first private animal courtroom. With the help of top Hollywood animal wranglers, he has trained an orangutan to act as judge, a rare mountain gorilla to act as the top hotshot defense attorney, a chimpanzee to lead the prosecution, and an entire colony of bonobo monkeys to sit on the jury. Each weekend, Sunstein invites one of his human friends round to act as "defendant." Rumor has it that when Sunstein describes it as "just a game. Nothing serious. You don't really believe that I think primates should be conducting trials of humans, do you?" his voice takes on amanic, demented quality which some of his volunteers have said is "Really kinda scary."

Understanding Obama's shift on Israel and the '1967 lines'
By Glenn Kessler
 (JASON REED/REUTERS)
"The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states."
- President Obama, May 19, 2011
This sentence in President Obama's much-anticipated speech on the Middle East caused much consternation Thursday among supporters of the Jewish state. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who will meet with Obama on Friday, adamantly rejected it.
For people not trained in the nuances of Middle East diplomacy, the sentence might appear unremarkable. However, many experts say it represents a significant shift in U.S. policy, and it is certainly a change for the Obama administration.
As is often the case with diplomacy, the context and the speaker are nearly as important as the words. Ever since the 1967 Six-Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbors, it has been clear that peace with the Palestinians would be achieved through some exchange of land for security.

Reality Check
Republicans are reeling from yesterday's special election loss in New York's 26th Congressional District. The seat had been in GOP hands for decades. It was once represented by Jack Kemp. It was one of four New York districts to vote for John McCain, by six points, over Barack Obama in 2008. What happened?
For anyone with third party inclinations, this race proves the danger of dividing the conservative vote. The Democrat candidate won 47%, while the Republican won 43%. But a fake "Tea Party" candidate, who ran twice before as a Democrat, won 9% of the vote.
Complicating matters, the left ran a demagogic campaign on "Mediscare," telling seniors that the Republican-backed budget plan devised by Rep. Paul Ryan would destroy Medicare. As usual, the truth is the exact opposite.
Under the Ryan plan, folks 55 and over won't see any changes. Those under 55 will get generous vouchers to help purchase their own private health insurance. It is ObamaCare's Independent Payment Advisory Board, an unelected panel of bureaucrats charged with slashing Medicare, that will destroy Medicare. The Ryan plan saves Medicare for current beneficiaries, and creates a new system that promotes free market solutions for future retirees.
But according to one pre-election poll, the issue voters were most concerned about was Medicare, and those voters broke overwhelmingly for the Democrat candidate. Clearly our message did not carry the day.
I know there is a lot of grassroots frustration with the GOP establishment for not being conservative enough. I frequently get frustrated too. In this race, Republicans nominated a conservative candidate, who defended the Ryan plan. She still lost. Yesterday's election is a good reminder that politics is not always as simple as it seems.
In 2009 Democrats thought they had a winning issue in healthcare reform. With control of both houses of Congress and the White House, they aggressively pursued their agenda. Yes, it cost them at the ballot box. But at least they got something for their effort.
Conservatives thought they had a winning issue in entitlement reform. But many analysts are suggesting that the Ryan plan, which won't get past Harry Reid's Senate or Obama's desk, may have cost us a New York House seat this year, and could well cost us the House majority next year.
I am not suggesting that conservatives abandon our values. It is important that House Republicans draw bright contrasts with the Democrats. But it is just as important to make the case for why our values are the right approach, and to be in sync with the American people. Right now the polling is clear that the public is not yet sold on the need for major entitlement reform.
Our goal is to undo the damage Obama has done and to govern the country from a conservative perspective. As I have said before, we can't govern America from the House of Representatives alone. Our first priority must be winning back the Senate and the White House. To do that, we need to give our friends in Congress some room to maneuver during difficult policy debates.
In addition, major resources will have to be spent to make sure voters understand our message. And Republican candidates must be educated not just to defend the Ryan plan, but also to attack Obama's unelected advisory board and his out-of-control spending, which threatens to bankrupt every entitlement program.
2012 Update
Will Rudy Giuliani run again? Believing the current field is weak, some Republicans are trying to coax the former New York City mayor into the 2012 GOP primary.
Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said earlier this week that Giuliani is "very close to saying he's going to run," and is reportedly talking to key political operatives in New Hampshire. One recent poll found Giuliani running ahead of other candidates such as Tim Pawlenty, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann.
A High Court Controversy
In all the big news of the past week, a very controversial United States Supreme Court decision has been largely ignored. In a 5-to-4 decision, the Supreme Court ordered California to release more than 40,000 prisoners, arguing that prison overcrowding had created conditions that amounted to "cruel and unusual" punishment. The decision was backed by the court's four liberal justices, including two appointed by President Obama, and Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Beyond abortion and homosexual "marriage," this case gives us a glimpse into the future if Barack Obama is reelected and given four more years to pack the federal courts with left-wing activists. The court's liberal majority was more concerned with the conditions of prisoners than the safety of the general public.
This decision will have severe consequences. As other court-ordered prisoner releases have demonstrated, people may be killed, raped or robbed as result. In the 1990s, Philadelphia was forced to release thousands of prisoners under court order. In less than two years, the police had arrested and charged many of the released prisoners for committing nearly 10,000 new crimes, including 79 murders, 90 rapes and nearly 1,000 robberies.
The court's conservatives were incredulous. In his dissenting opinion, Justice Antonin Scalia warned that "terrible things are sure to happen as a consequence of this outrageous order." Justice Samuel Alito argued that the court should have issued a narrow ruling to address specific problems on a case-by-case basis. Instead, Alito wrote, the liberal majority freed "the equivalent of three Army divisions" of criminals, which he feared would "lead to a grim roster of victims."
Why Our Schools Are Failing
Americans are rightly concerned about the sorry state of public education. We spend thousands of dollars to educate our kids, yet test scores on fundamental subjects are falling, and too few students are graduating. The liberal curriculum of many schools is a big part of the problem.
A program at the Redwood Heights Elementary School in Oakland, California, made national headlines this week when a "gender spectrum trainer" told students that when it comes to gender, "It turns out that there are not just two options."
Why are California elementary school students being taught that there are more than two genders? According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "All state schools are required to have a specific plan to address ... issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity."
Too many of our students can't do basic math, read and don't know their history. I don't think most parents and taxpayers would consider "gender diversity" an efficient use of time and resources. But indoctrinating your children is a priority of the radical left and the militant homosexual rights movement.
The culture war is real and only one side can prevail. This is why men and women of faith must be active in the days ahead - talking to friends and family members, organizing their neighborhoods, registering new voters and working to elect conservative candidates to public office.

Stephen Schwartz:
At the end of a week in which U.S. military forces in Pakistan carried out the execution of Osama bin Laden and the Afghan Taliban declared that the death of "Sheikh Osama bin Laden will give a new impetus to the current jihad against the invaders in this critical phase of jihad," a stunning display of Islamist insensitivity and arrogance took place at the University of California, Berkeley. On Friday, May 6, 2011, Ebrahim Moosa, a South African Muslim and professor of Islamic Studies at Duke University in North Carolina, speaking at a UC Berkeley workshop on "Religious Norms in the Public Sphere," defended Deobandism, the madrassa-based radical ideology that inspires the Taliban. ...

Netanyahu did himself proud. He was strong on his redlines yet concilitory.
1. Jerusalem will remain the undivided capital of Israel. 2. Israel won't retreat to '67 lines. 3. Israel must maintain a longterm presence on the Jordan. 4. Palestine must be demilitarized. 5. No right of return to Israel 6. Israel will keep all its settlement blocks around Jerusalem and Tel Aviv 7. Israel will evacuate some settlements 8. Fatah must blow off Hamas. 9. Abbas must accept Israel as a Jewish state
As for how much land we would give them for a state, he said he would be generous. But he made it clear that we are giving them part of our homeland rather than returning to them what is theirs. I had the feeling that he was intent on hanging on to much more land than his predecessors have tried to do. Especially when he said we will give them "part of the land".
The speech was extremely well received by the audience.
IBD Editorial Mideast: Barack Obama has gone out of his way to undercut a key ally, Israel, while going to bat for those keen to destroy it. This is an agenda that traces all the way back to Chicago.
For the first time, a sitting president has called on Israel to give up its defensive buffer zone secured in the Arab war to destroy the Jewish state. He is adopting Hamas' position demanding Israel pull out of the West Bank and east Jerusalem.
In an earlier affront, Obama didn't buy Israel's story over the Gaza flotilla flap, even though it's now confirmed that Hamas was trying to smuggle weapons into the area under a false humanitarian flag.
Why is he so quick to distrust Israel, while so eager to appease Palestinians?
One of his best friends in Chicago was Rashid Khalidi, former PLO spokesman under Arafat who supported terrorist strikes on Israeli government targets. At a 2003 pro-Palestinian banquet, during which speakers expressed anger at Israel...

To further the weekendpushback against the idea that Bibi Netanyahu is somehow blundering by showing Barack Obama the back of his hand, read this article in the Hill:
"It would undermine Israel's strategic depth, increasing its vulnerability to both military invasions and the sorts of rocket and missile attacks that Hamas carries out in Gaza," Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), head of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Friday in a statement. "Doubling down on failed policies will not lead to the changes we need. It's time for the Obama administration to change course."
Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.) delivered a similar message, arguing that reverting the borders would only embolden Hamas to launch more attacks.
Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) echoed that sentiment, saying the 1967 borders "were simply not defensible, and Israel must not be made to return...

By calling for the '67 lines with swaps, Obama did Israel a favour, not intentionally, of course. The result of which is that he has made his pressure on Israel a US political issue, one that he is currently on the wrong side of and sure to lose.
Netanyahu carved the issue in stone in the Whitehouse when he said "It isn't going to happen" and again at AIPAC when he said that "67 lines are "indefensible".
AIPAC Executive Director Howard Kohr said Monday that U.S. President Barack Obama should not take an even-handed approach to the Middle East conflict, as it puts Israel at a disadvantage.
"Part of being an honest broker is being honest," Kohr said in an address to AIPAC, a day after Obama spoke to the pro-Israel lobby and clarified his remarks regarding his vision for a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, adding "that honesty "should not be confused with even-handedness".

I have said many times that Israpundit is not the place to have Christian/Jewish disputations. They only serve to divide us.
Israpundit has one objective and that is to unite us in the defense of liberty and in the defense of Israel.
So please adhere to this guideline.

As I noted on Judge Jeanine Pirro's show this weekend, I reject President Obama's idea that Israel must cede back its territories to the 1967 line. Will we now be in the habit of telling our allies what their borders should be? Should Prime Minister Netanyahu suggest we return to our 1845 borders before the annexation of the southwest of the United States during the Mexican-American War? Should we give back parts of Texas, New Mexico, and California?
But the problem is even deeper. In both his State Department speech and his speech yesterday at AIPAC, President Obama made some seemingly specific comments about the Palestinian state that he wants to see created. He either misspoke or he has even more dangerous plans for our friends in Israel than he is publicly admitting.
In the State Department speech, President Obama said that he wants the borders of Palestine and Israel to "be based on the 1967 lines" (in other words, with both the West Bank and the...

Like the vanishing point in a perspective painting, long-term projections help us order our perceptions of what we see in front of us today. Here's one to think about, fresh from the just-released update of the United Nations' population forecasts: At constant fertility, Israel will have more young people by the end of this century than either Turkey or Iran, and more than German, Italy or Spain.
Population aged 15 to 24 years, Israel vs selected countries

Source: United Nations Population Division
With a total fertility rate of three children per woman, Israel's total population will rise to 24 million by the end of the present century. Iran's fertility is around 1.7 and falling, while the fertility for ethnic Turks is only 1.5 (the Kurdish minority has a fertility rate of around 4.5). Not that the size of land armies matters much in an era of high-tech warfare, but if present...

Saving the American Dream by Cutting Debt, Taxes and Spending
It might not be front-page news in the mainstream media, but according to a new poll, a large majority of Americans are alarmed at the prospect of U.S. debt continuing to grow past its already astronomical $14.3 trillion limit. They're right to be worried, as America's out-of-control spending takes the country down a road to decline. America is on an unsustainable fiscal path, and that's why The Heritage Foundation has released a plan to tackle the problem: "Saving the American Dream: Heritage's Plan to Fix the Debt, Cut Spending, and Restore Prosperity."

An agreement signed in Colombia this week allowing the ousted former Honduran president, Manuel Zelaya, to return home and resume political activity without fear of prosecution marks "a great day" for the Honduran people, according to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Without Obama, We Would be a Global Energy Superpower By Dr. Mark W. Hendrickson, FloydReports.com

Saudi Arabia has long been the dominant producer of petroleum on the planet. Nature endowed the Arabian Peninsula with gigantic deposits of this vital source of energy. Many of us have lamented the quirk of nature that placed much-needed oil in the most geopolitically unstable region in the world.
Although Saudi Arabia is the king of oil producers at present, there is another country that has far more extensive deposits of fossil fuels. Because fossil fuels are the most economical and reliable energy sources known to man, the country that has the largest share of them is fortunate indeed. What is this richly endowed country? It is none other than the United States of America. |

If former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had a Social Security Number issued to her in Hawaii - a state she never lived in - would that raise suspicions among those in the national news media?
Well, the situation is the similar with President Barack Obama, who holds a Connecticut-based Social Security Number, despite allegedly being born in Hawaii, starting his work career in the Aloha State, and never having lived in Connecticut. |

Obama's Double-Dip Recession is on the Way By The Washington Times
|
The experts at the National Bureau of Economic Research say the Great Recession ended in June 2009. After that, it looked for a brief period as if there might be a surge of economic growth as an oppressed private sector fought to break free of the malaise. It hasn't happened, and the latest numbers are far from encouraging.
On Monday, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago released the monthly results for its broad measure of economic activity. The Chicago Fed national activity index tumbled from positive territory, a value of .32 in March, into negative territory, -.45, in April. The score is a weighted average of 85 measures of employment, consumption, sales and other factors that give a sense of where the economy is headed. In this case, production-related indicators that had been positive for nine consecutive months have stalled and are dragging down the figures. Likewise, inflationary pressures have begun to take a toll.
The news was equally bleak over at.... |

The Addiction of Deficit Spending
May 25, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Basil Irwin, staff writer
Almost any knowledgeable person with a lick of common sense knows
government can't create jobs. If it could, then a private-sector economy wouldn't be needed, you know, like in those dynamos of economic propensity, communism and socialism.
Thus, Obamanomic "stimulus" has amounted to nothing more than "creating" jobs that are the modern-day equivalent of hole-digging/hole-filling operations. That's ... Continue Reading:The Addiction of Deficit Spending

Newt Gingrich and his love affair with stupidity
May 24, 2011 03:46 pm | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Newt Gingrich is a unique person. He can simultaneously be both the smartest person and dumbest person in a room depending on the questions he is asked. When Gingrich is "smart" he can be great. His 1994 Republican Revolution was stunning, and it proved how smart he can be. Nevertheless, it also ultimately proved he should never be the President of the United States.
The leadership he showed in pulling off his amazing transformation of the House can only be described as great Instrumental leadership. Instrumental leaders can gather forces to achieve a mission and bring about revolutionary change. There is, however, another type of leadership which becomes vital after victory is achieved. That is Administrative Leadership which requires effective stewardship of the prize. Considering the follow examples establishes Gingrich can show plenty of the former, but very little of the later.
Whining about his seat on Air Force One
In 1995, Gingrich set the tone for his "Open ... Continue Reading:Newt Gingrich and his love affair with stupidity

PA Senate passes E-Verify plan for contractors By Gary Weckselblatt Staff Writer
The Pennsylvania Senate approved legislation today that would require contractors and subcontractors to verify legal employment status for all employees working on public building projects.
Senate Bill 637, which passed 47-7, makes use of the federal E-Verify system mandatory to confirm that all employees are eligible to work in the U.S.

Oh what a difference a night can make.
Senator Rand Paul fought well into the night against the big-government, anti-gun power grab of the Patriot Act (S. 1038). Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had promised to allow amendments to the bill. But my capitol hill sources tell me he was livid that Senator Paul was trying to introduce an amendment to exempt all firearm records from the Patriot Act searches.
Instead of allowing the amendments, Harry Reid and his Police-state conspirators in Republican leadership are throwing out all the rules -- and their own promises to allow Paul's pro-gun amendment -- in order to secure passage of the freedom-shredding Patriot Act.
Senator Paul's valiant defense of gun owners through amendments and procedural motions would have pushed a final vote on the four-year extension of the Patriot Act into the weekend.
This has Reid and Obamacrats scrambling to find "creative" ways to pass the bill before certain elements of the legislation expire on Friday.
Reid has found a way to cheat Senator Paul and gun owners out of a vote on Paul's pro-gun amendment while doing the bidding of the anti-gun Obama Administration.
You see the anti-gunners in Washington D.C. are desperate to keep the tools of the mis-named Patriot Act to spy on "domestic terrorists" -- translate that to mean law-abiding gun owners like you and me.
Instead of allowing Paul to introduce amendments, with debate and votes that would follow, Reid is going to take the entire mis-named Patriot Act and amend it on to a small business bill that just passed the House.
In simple terms, Reid has reneged on his promise and is attempting to block any amendments and stifle all opposition to extending the mis-named Patriot Act.
Reid's complicated maneuvering will result in a cloture vote to amend the mis-named Patriot Act on to a small business bill (S. 990) tomorrow.
I need you to stand with me and keep fighting.
Can I count on you to:

End the Regulatory 'Train Wreck' at Obama's EPA!
You already know how the Obama Administration's EPA has been working to enact a backdoor cap and trade scheme through greenhouse gas regulation that would further drive up already sky-high energy costs.
Conservative, limited government activists like YOU from all over the country have helped us deliver a powerful message to Congress on this issue. So far, FreedomWorks members have sent over 153,000 letters and emails and made over 2,300 phone calls urging targeted lawmakers to pass legislation that would put a halt to EPA's cap and trade nightmare. This groundswell of grassroots pressure has helped push the House to pass H.R. 910 -- The Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011; legislation that would strip EPA of its ability to use the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases.
As this bill awaits action in the Senate, FreedomWorks will continue to ramp up activity and aggressively push for a vote. Unfortunately however, EPA has a host of other regulatory abuses on its agenda and we need Congress to act fast in order to keep this "train wreck" from further spiking energy costs and devastating America's economic recovery.
Specifically, it is important that conservative leaders in Congress come forward to address the following actions that EPA has undertaken and that threaten to cost millions of American jobs and billions of dollars in lost GDP:
1. New taxes that will impact thousands of businesses-large and small...By increasing complicated regulatory standards, the EPA is hitting American businesses with a brand new tax. Facilities ranging from factories to churches that can't afford to upgrade their equipment would be forced to close!
2. Massive new regulatory taxes on electricity...Expensive new standards targeting coal fired power plants-the source of most of the nation's electricity-would raise costs for consumers and businesses. Billions in new costs would be passed on to energy consumers and the energy security of millions of Americans would be put in serious jeopardy!
3. Costly new regulations on cement plants...Our nation's cement plants are perhaps in the most precarious position due to the EPA's aggressive new regulatory agenda. A recent Southern Methodist University study estimated in excess of 15% of plants would be forced to close, costing thousands of jobs, raising costs, and dramatically hurting investments in U.S. infrastructure!
4. New restrictions effecting common household products and materials...The EPA wants to re-define coal ash as a hazardous material. In doing so, they will eliminate the use of this product in the making of many thing s we rely on including building materials like cement and drywall -- in turn, driving up the cost of these products!
5. New regulations on emissions that would force many communities to impose costly new restrictions on consumers and small businesses...New ozone standards would put many out of reach, triggering extensive new regulations that would have sweeping and devastating new economic consequences affecting virtually all consumers and businesses, with new standards for everything from car tailpipes to factory smokestacks-and everything in between!
If steps are not taken to prevent EPA from pursuing this agenda, the Obama EPA nightmare will become a reality for American consumers, businesses, and the economy as a whole.
CLICK HERE to contact you legislators and urge them to support legislation aimed at stopping the EPA's regulatory train wreck!
Sincerely,
 Dick Armey Chairman, FreedomWorks
P.S. As anyone knows, a train wreck is devastating, and also very costly to clean up. Unfortunately, the same is true of cleaning up the EPA's regulatory "train wreck." If you can, please chip in $25 or more here to help FreedomWorks foot the bill to undo the damage. | |

It seems like some in Washington never learn - even after a powerful election message is sent.
Remember when President Obama and then-Speaker Pelosi poured taxpayer subsidies into their pet environmental project: electric cars. They gave a whopping $7,500 subsidy for each car! Then, they piled more "stimulus" dollars into propping up wind and solar projects that were not able to compete in the free marketplace.
AFP and conservative Republican members of Congress rightly attacked this wasteful example of big government picking winners and losers based on ideology and special interest.
But now, more than 75 House Republicans have joined with 100 House Democrats to cosponsor a bill pouring taxpayer subsidies into once again having government handpick a winner in the energy markets. This time the pet project is natural gas.
As Yogi Berra liked to say, "it's déjà vu all over again."
It looks like some Republicans are falling into the same old trap of attacking big government spending and special interest politics when the Democrats are in power but then doing much the same thing when they have a majority.
Click here to take action and sign a petition telling these 75 plus House Republicans not to do exactly what we and they rightly attacked Obama\Pelosi\Reid for doing just last year.
The legislation I'm talking about: U.S. Rep. John Sullivan's (R-Okla.) bill called the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1380) a bill that contains an astonishingly complete special tax package for natural gas powered vehicles, including tax credits if you buy a natural gas car and $10,000 per car for automakers to produce them. All told, it's more than $5 billion a year in special carve outs to push one technology to the front of the line. Click here to learn more about the bill.
Natural gas is a great domestic energy source and it may well be the next fuel for American cars, but that's a decision for consumers to make, not Congress.
Click here to take action and sign a petition telling House Republicans not to pick winners and losers in the energy markets.
Sincerely,
Tim Phillips President Americans for Prosperity
P.S. Just to be clear on these energy subsidies: Americans for Prosperity believes the free market, American consumers, should decide which energy source they want - whether it's wind, solar, natural gas, electric, gas or ethanol blends. But, government should not be using our tax dollars to pick winners and losers. It's wasteful and wrong.

All of which raises another question: If Obamacare is so great, why do so many people want to get out from under it?

Obama's Unspoken Re-Election Edge
This presidency flatters America to a degree that no white Republican can hope to match.
By SHELBY STEELE
Many of the Republican presidential hopefuls should be able to beat President Obama in 2012. This president has a track record now and, thus, many vulnerabilities. If he is not our "worst president," as Donald Trump would have it, his sweeping domestic initiatives-especially his stimulus package and health-care reform-were so jerry-built and high-handed that they generated a virtual revolution in America's normally subdued middle class.
The president's success in having Osama bin Laden killed is an exception to a pattern of excruciatingly humble and hesitant leadership abroad. Mr. Obama has been deeply ambivalent about the application of American power, as if a shameful "neocolonialism" attends every U.S. action in the world. In Libya he seems actually to want American power to diminish altogether.

The Facts on Medicare and How To Save It
New House Budget Committee video on Medicare offers clear facts to counter false attacks and advance bold solutions
WASHINGTON - The House Budget Committee released a video today explaining the real danger our growing debt poses to Medicare, and advancing a plan of action to save this critical health-security program.
Chairman Paul Ryan, who appears in the video, issued the following statement on the need for clear facts to counter the false attacks made by those unwilling to work with House Republicans to save Medicare:
"We can no longer let politicians in Washington deny the danger to Medicare - the danger is all too real, and the health of our nation's seniors is far too important. We have to save Medicare to avoid disruptions in benefits for current seniors, and to strengthen the program for future generations. House Republicans have put forward a plan to do just that. Democratic leaders in Congress have failed to produce a plan - it has been 755 days since Senate Democrats even passed a budget. Meanwhile, the President's plan would empower a panel of 15 unelected bureaucrats to cut Medicare for current seniors, while failing to save the program for future retirees.
"This video lays out the clear choice our nation faces on Medicare: Will Medicare become a program in which a board of bureaucrats manages its bankruptcy by denying care to seniors? Or will leaders work together to save and strengthen Medicare by empowering seniors to choose health care plans that work best for them, with less support for the wealthy and more help for the poor and the sick? House Republicans have advanced solutions to save Medicare. Instead of working with us, the leaders of the Democratic Party have opted to play politics with the health security of America's seniors."

CORRECTED and EXPANED Republicans Redistributing the Wealth -- Millions to Billionaires
Redistributing the Wealth State: House Republicans $603,543,000 Budget Proposed 2011-12
Instead of millions for billionaires, why not millions for middle class vouchers?
The House Republicans have proposed a 2011- 12 budget that redistributes six hundred and three million five hundred and forty three thousand ($603,543,000)1 dollars, $ .063 BILLION dollars, of The Forgotten Taxpayer's wealth to billionaire private corporations2.
The Forgotten Taxpayer Is Forced to Subsidize Billionaires? Middle Class Vouchers Denied
Because these private billion dollar budget corporations are structured as "nonprofit", they do not pay local property taxes on their 100s of acres of property and do not pay State or Federal Taxes except for payroll deductions from wages.
What was the purpose of billions of dollars in subsidies to billion dollar private corporations? Lower Tuitions? Or Higher Salaries? Or More Administrators? The entire cost of SB 1, Vouchers/EITC over four years, is $ 734, 947, 772 which is designed to subsidize, as required by Article III, section 14 of the Pennsylvania Constitution, the education of children, particularly the poor caught in violent and educationally dysfunctional schools and middle class struggling economically.
A change in course directing money away from billionaire private corporations to those who need it most may be an idea worth considering.
House Majority Leader Representative Mike Turzai and Appropriations Chair calls this "fiscally responsible" "prioritizing spending" focused on The Forgotten Taxpayer.

Liberals fail to turn a New York election into a "referendum" on entitlement reform and spending cuts. |

Help Us Fight for Spending Cuts and Real Entitlement Reform |
|
|
|
Yesterday, Democrat Kathy Hochul won a three-way special congressional election in New York's 26th district.
But despite what the liberals and the media might tell you, this election boiled down to one thing: the left's willingness to do absolutely anything to stop the sort of reforms our children and grandchildren desperately need.
They ran a Democrat as a Tea Party candidate in an effort to deceive voters and muddle the values for which we are fighting.
They flooded the district with millions of dollars and all their big-name, big-government, big-spending stars.
They told lie after lie about Paul Ryan's budget plan to save Medicare.
They just used the same tired old scare tactics the left always uses-the same tactics which led us to create Heritage Action to fight back.
>> Find out how you can help us continue the fight against liberal lies and propaganda.
The liberal establishment wants to keep things exactly as they are. That's why they rushed to the aid of Kathy Hochul. And that means letting Medicare go bankrupt, our debt to consume us and our out-of-control spending to continue. We need to stop this before it gets out of control. We cannot allow this demagoguery to dominate the debate and foreshadow what's to come in 2012.
We can't allow liberals to get away with lies, propaganda and scare tactics that prey on seniors.
If we allow the left and the media to continue this narrative, then the problems in our country will never be solved.
Our children and grandchildren will never know a free, prosperous and exceptional America because our country will be bankrupt.
>> Help continue the fight against liberal lies and propaganda.
Liberals pulled out all the stops in campaigning for Kathy Hochul. They amped up the same lie over and over again hoping that voters would believe it.
All the big names of the establishment came out, including:
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo - "...protect the programs important to you, like Medicare."
Former President Bill Clinton - "You can count on Kathy to say no to partisan politics that would end Medicare as we know it to pay for more tax cuts for multimillionaires."
Even former Speaker Nancy Pelosi came out in support.
The left is clearly willing to go to great lengths to stymie our best shot in years at reforms.
We're going to need all the support we can get if we have any hope of cutting spending, reforming entitlements, repealing Obamacare and defeating the Washington establishment.
We need to send a clear message that conservatives are united behind those seeking to solve our nation's problems.
Find out how you can help Heritage Action for America counteract the negative and false attacks of the liberals and help get our country back on track.
Thank you in advance for helping us and for standing on principle.

Obama's spin on GM's latest profit report is pure baloney
Shikha Dalmia | May 24, 2011
The Obama administration, and its media backers, have seized upon news that General Motors made a $3.2 billion profit in the first quarter of 2011 as proof positive that its auto bailout is a success. President Obama is so buoyed that he is reportedly planning to make the bailout a major part of his reelection campaign.
But by this standard, Charlie Sheen's comedy tour ought to be declared a smash hit. Sheen's backers will lose relatively less money on him than taxpayers will on the bailout.
No sooner had GM made its announcement than Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne dashed off a stinging rebuke to naysayers (like me) who had dared doubt the wisdom of the bailout. Likewise, the auto czar Ron Bloom credited the turnaround to the president's "tough love" approach.
No doubt, $3.2 billion is a big number. But an even bigger number is $60 billion. That's what this administration and the last one together sank into GM (not to mention another $20 billion or so they dumped into Chrysler). When President Obama gave GM this money, he insisted that it was not a handout but an "investment" that would cost taxpayers "not a dime."
But if there was ever any doubt that this wasn't going to happen, this earning report dispels it.

Leftists can't seem to have an adult conversation about anything
"If nothing else, last week made it abundantly clear where Democrats stand on today's most pressing issues, and the picture isn't pretty. In case you missed it, the Democrats floated a plan for a millionaire surtax in an attempt to, as the Hill put it, 'force Republicans to accept other tax increases.' They tried to hike taxes on oil companies by more than $2 billion a year, because the industry is currently making big profits; and mounted a nationwide campaign to scare seniors away from Rep. Paul Ryan's Medicare reform -- including a new ad that depicts Ryan tossing a senior citizen off a cliff. Detect a theme there? On issue after issue, Republicans are putting forward serious, sober and often politically risky solutions to the nation's most pressing problems, while Democrats play class-warfare games and stoke the public's fear. To cope with the nation's gargantuan debt, for example, the GOP issued a budget plan that focuses -- correctly -- on reining in the government's runaway spending. The only thing Democrats want to talk about is how all our problems can be solved if we just raise taxes on the 'the rich.'" --Investor's Business Daily
Editor's Note: House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) released a second video titled, "Path to Prosperity (Episode 2)" in which he lays out the case for Medicare's problems and how to fix it.

"The poor have been used as human shields behind which the expanding welfare state can advance. The goal is not to keep the poor from starving but to create dependency, because dependency translates into votes for politicians who play Santa Claus. We have all heard the old saying about how giving a man a fish feeds him for a day, while teaching him to fish feeds him for a lifetime. Independence makes for a healthier society, but dependency is what gets votes for politicians. For politicians, giving a man a fish every day of his life is the way to keep getting his vote. Indeed, the researchers found that the stimulus actually 'destroyed or forestalled' a whopping one million private sector jobs by crowding them out with make-work public jobs and programs. "For those who do not have a map in front of them, Obama's insistence that 'the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps' means at its narrowest point the country would be only 8 miles wide -- and utterly indefensible. It means Israel, the only state in the region that meets the president's criteria for 'self determination' -- an honest judiciary; an independent media; credible political parties; free and fair elections -- must now negotiate its fate with those who want none of those things. Barack Obama has become Yasser Arafat's dream come true." --columnist Oliver North
"As fallout continues over President Obama's calls for Israel to go back to its 1967 borders last week, Obama, as usual, is claiming his speech was 'misrepresented.' ... It seems that the President of the United States shouldn't have to 'clarify' remarks given in a major foreign policy speech, yet over and over again we see this Administration clarifying controversial remarks when issues get heated. Taking into account Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's response to the calls for 1967 borders, it was quite clear what message President Obama sent to the Jewish State last week." --columnist Katie Pavlich
Insight
"It is one of the maladies of our age to profess a frenzied allegiance to truth in unimportant matters, and to refuse consistently to face her where graver issues are at stake." --British writer Norman Douglas (1868-1952)
"America is another name for opportunity. Our whole history appears like a last effort of divine Providence in behalf of the human race." --American essayist and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
"I bet after seeing us, George Washington would sue us for calling him 'father.'" --American humorist Will Rogers (1879-1935)

The Demo-gogues
Profiles in courage: "There's no need to have a Democratic budget in my opinion. It would be foolish for us to do a budget at this stage." --Senate Majority "Leader" Harry Reid (D-NV)
Again with no adult discussion: "You can't do $2 trillion just in cuts. There has to be a mix of spending cuts, including defense. There has to be a more fair apportionment of tax policy in this country." --Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) (By "fair apportionment" of course, he means taxing the "rich" even more than they already are.)
"We've had no proposal from the Republicans except in their budget they wanted to take Medicare away from future seniors by making it a block grant, and they wanted to cut the Medicaid program which cuts a big hole in the safety net for the poor to get their health care needs which means people in nursing homes would be dumped out of those nursing homes." --Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA)
Throwing Israel under the bus: "The United States believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine. The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states. The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state." --Barack Obama
Let's all get along: "We face a historic opportunity. We have a chance to show that America values the dignity of a street vendor in Tunisia more than the raw power of the dictator. As Americans have been seared by hostage taking, violent rhetoric, and terrorist attacks that have killed thousands of our citizens -- a failure to change our approach [in the Middle East] threatens a deepening spiral of division between the United States and Muslim communities." --Barack Obama
Trouble keeping the story straight: "The first time I had Guinness is when I came to the Shannon [Ireland] airport. We were flying into Afghanistan and so stopped in Shannon. It was the middle of the night. And I tried one of these and I realized it tastes so much better here than it does in the States." --Barack Obama (If it was the first time, how did you know it tasted better than in the States?)
Meanwhile in Ireland, Obama's limo had trouble getting around.
Dezinformatsia
Class warfare: "This may be the summer that we see more clearly that the working class has developed a lingering sense of disillusionment, that right-wing politicians have developed an unshakeable immunity to empathy and that corporations have developed a taste for blood squeezed from turnips. And it may be the summer for seeing through the right-wing squawk machine that hopes to distract us from the damage the rich and the right are doing by manically hurling torches at the Obama administration to see if something catches fire. This week, Representative Paul Ryan, a Republican of Wisconsin, suggested to the Economic Club of Chicago that the president's attempt to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans amounted to 'class warfare' and promoted 'class envy.' Ha! The war is already being waged against the poor and vulnerable, and the envious have-nots didn't start it. The right and its cabal of economic cannibals did." --New York Times columnist Charles Blow
This just in: "[Benjamin Netanyahu] got a standing ovation [in Congress], but the Palestinians were not impressed. ... The Palestinians are not buying his peace plan." --CBS's Russ Mitchell (The Palestinians won't buy any peace plan that includes the nation of Israel.)
Anything but natural-cause: "What about climate change? You have many people who see these severe storms, and not just the tornados, but the strength of hurricanes and even severe storms, we're getting hail and high winds right now from Texas, I believe, all the way through the Midwest. Is this a result of climate change or an effect of climate change?" --MSNBC's Tamron Hall
Blame global warming: "Is this it, this is the evidence of a kind of preview of life under global warming?" --ABC's Diane Sawyer opining on the tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri

Village IdiotsThe most humble man: "I feel that my role as a former president is probably superior to that of other presidents. Primarily because of the activism and the injection of working at the Carter Center and in international affairs, and to some degree, domestic affairs, on energy conservation, on environment, and things of that kind. ... And the Carter Center has decided, under my leadership, to fill the vacuums in the world." --Jimmy Carter Hate speech: "The far-right is what I call the 'Hate Wing' of the Republican Party. They're over-represented in primaries, and of course when elections come along, they generally don't win. But they can cause enormous trouble in the primaries. They hate Muslims, they hate gays, they hate immigrants, and the rhetoric in the primaries shows that." --former DNC chief Howard Dean Big Labor's complaint: "If you want to look at the [campaign finance] system, the system is broken. The Supreme Court helped break it even more with Citizens United. The system needs to be changed so that average, ordinary Americans can have as strong a voice as ExxonMobil does in the Congress. ... The campaign finance laws need to be changed, so I for one would be for an overhaul. I'd start at the Supreme Court probably because they believe that money equals free speech. That's what their decision said." --AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka The "Refined Agitator": "I've learned to pick my fights, and also, to be more strategic about my fight plan. It doesn't mean it's not the same fight, but it means I'm a different and I'm a more seasoned fighter. ... [a] 'refined agitator.'" --the "Rev." Al Sharpton Short Cuts"So, Barack Obama thinks Israel should give up the land it acquired in the Six-Day War, rolling back to its 1967 borders. ... I was talking to a friend last night who had this alternative suggestion. Leave Israel alone and roll back the U.S. Government to its 1967 size. I wish he had said 1965." --columnist Roger Kimball "The best way to hear this President denounce those [crony capitalist] things, instead of imposing them on us, is to become the citizens of a foreign country. If we just pull America back to its pre-1776 borders, we'll immediately gain Barack Obama's energetic support for entrepreneurial risk, economic growth, resource development, and limited, accountable government." --columnist John Hayward "The death of Osama bin Laden ... has apparently damaged our relationship with al-Qa'ida. Al-Qa'ida has released a statement vowing to make America pay for bin Laden's death. I'm pretty sure we did pay for his death. We paid for the whole thing and even took care of the funeral arrangements. Maybe a thank you would be nice." --comedian Jimmy Kimmel "President Obama addressed a party fundraiser in New York Tuesday where he promised Democrats he'll get immigration reform passed. He spoke at length about how immigration is good for the United States. Maria Shriver has been granted equal time to deliver the rebuttal." --comedian Argus Hamilton "Just because politicians take their own clichés seriously and deliver them with great solemnity doesn't mean that any of us are under any obligation to feign interest. Palin's Secret Weapon: New Film to Premiere in June | Sarah Pallin asked her close aide, Rebecca Mansour to reach out to conservative filmmaker Stephen K. Bannon with a request: ask him if he would make a series of videos extolling Palin's governorship and laying to rest lingering questions about her controversial decision to resign from office with a year-and-a-half left in her first term. It was this abdication, Palin knew, that had made her damaged goods in the eyes of some Republicans who once were eager to get behind her potential 2012 presidential campaign. The response was more positive than Palin could have hoped for. He'd make a feature-length movie, Bannon told Mansour, and he insisted upon taking complete control and financing it himself -- to the tune of $1 million. The result is a two-hour-long, sweeping epic, a rough cut of which Bannon screened privately for Sarah and Todd Palin last Wednesday in Arizona, where Alaska's most famous couple has been rumored to have purchased a new home. When it premieres in Iowa next month, the film is poised to serve as a galvanizing prelude to Palin's prospective presidential campaign -. . . Americans More Worried about Higher Debt than Default | According to a Washington Post-Pew Research Center poll. Nearly half of respondents -- 48 percent -- said raising the debt limit was a greater concern than not, while just 35 percent said the opposite. The numbers underscore the potential political peril of voting to raise the government's borrowing limit without doing something to address the fiscal pressures pushing up the debt. They also suggest Democrats have only been partially successful in communicating the dangers of default to the general public. Almost half of those polled said they did not feel like they well understood the consequences of not raising the debt ceiling. The poll was conducted by telephone from May 19 to 22 among a random national sample of 1,004 adults. Results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Hatch's support of Patriot Act likely to anger tea party | In one of the few bipartisan efforts of the year, Congress is expected to extend three parts of the Patriot Act before they expire on Friday. Sen. Orrin Hatch plans to support the move and vote in lockstep with the vast majority of Republicans. Yet this vote is likely to become a political liability for the senator, who is trying to head off a conservative revolt in the state he has represented since 1977. That's because a vocal group of tea party activists see the Patriot Act as a gross invasion of personal liberty and a clear violation of the Constitution's protection against unreasonable searches. It is the same group Hatch has tried to court in recent weeks as he prepares for an expected tea party challenge in 2012. It also doesn't help that Utah's three other Republicans in Congress - Sen. Mike Lee, Rep. Rob Bishop and Rep. Jason Chaffetz - oppose the extension. "Hatch is already in big trouble, having a 36-year record up for scrutiny. Extending the Patriot Act will only add fuel to the fire," said Darcy Van Orden, one of the leaders of Utah's tea party movement, who called the Patriot Act a "deplorable piece of legislation." An unusual mix of tea party Republicans on the right and civil libertarians on the left argue the Patriot Act is unconstitutionally invasive, while Hatch and a majority of Republican and Democratic leaders say the provisions are not only constitutional but vital. Tea Party Targets Schools for 'Constitution Week' | The Tea Party Patriots, Georgia-based but claiming 1,000 chapters nationally, are instructing members to remind teachers that a 2004 federal law requires public schools to teach Constitution lessons every Sept. 17, commemorating the day the document was signed. And they'd like the teachers to use material from the Malta, Idaho-based National Center for Constitutional Studies, which promotes the Constitution as a divinely-inspired document. The center's founder, W. Cleon Skousen, once called Jamestown's original settlers communists, wrote end-of-days prophecy and suggested Russians stole Sputnik from the United States. In 1987, one of his books was criticized for suggesting American slave children were freer than white non-slaves. "The Tea Party Patriots are doing what Americans are supposed to do," said Robert Leming, who directs his group's "We The People" program. "What that should do is encourage others of a different point of view to do the same thing." [ABC News.go, May 25] Click here for the full story

The House has an ambitious schedule today churning through more than 150 amendments to the $690 billion defense-spending package.
This is what passes as bipartisan on Capitol Hill - only one member of the entire Armed Services Committee voted against the measure when it passed through that panel, but when it hits the House floor, everybody wants a piece of it.
But before they could even turn the first page, President Barack Obama threatened to veto the entire thing because of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and other military policies that will affect the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Also drawing his veto threat is the continued development of a secondary engine for the F-35 Joint Striker Fighters, a ban on transferring some Guantanamo detainees to the U.S., and delaying the New START arms-reduction treaty with Russia.
And then there is Section 1034. Obama, as well as some Republicans including Ron Paul of Texas, don't like that one at all.
It states; "Congress affirms that -- the United States is engaged in an armed conflict with al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated forces and that those entities continue to pose a threat to the United States and its citizens, both domestically and abroad."
And, "the President has the authority to use all necessary and appropriate force during the current armed conflict with al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated forces pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force (Public Law 107-40; 50 U.S.C. 1541 note)."
Obama "strongly objects" because in "purporting to affirm the conflict, would effectively recharacterize its scope and would risk creating confusion regarding applicable standards. At a minimum, this is an issue that merits more extensive consideration before possible inclusion."
Paul stated his objections on the House floor this morning, saying the death of Osama bin Laden makes such authority unnecessary.
"It allows the president to pursue war at any time, at any place, without congressional approval," Paul said. - Audrey Hudson

On Wednesday's Program
The most embarrassing Obama video ever
Obama took a trip to Ireland that he now wishes he never did -- it's been humiliating gaffe after humiliating gaffe. What started as an atrocious attempt at an Irish accent and a pathetic limousine fail only got worse as the day went along. The greatest failure of the day by far was when Obama attempted to toast the queen. What happened next resulted in video so embarrassing it defies words. Watch if you must, but if uncomfortable moments make you squeamish - DO NOT WATCH THIS HORRIBLE GAFFE!

Obama compares himself to Reagan
If it weren't for the failed car, toast, accent etc - this would have been a horrible gaffe but pales in comparison. President Obama actually likens himself to Ronald Reagan during the Cold War because of the Arab Spring. That's quite a stretch but reveals that the President is more concerned and more active in the Middle East than most people are aware of - what does Glenn think of the comparison? WATCH

Why didn't Biden clap during Netanyahu's speech?
Glenn played the audio from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's tremendous speech to Congress yesterday in which he stood firm defending Israel and their borders. Netanyahu also pointed out that Jerusalem will never be divided -- a line that drew large applause from the crowd, except for one: Vice President Joe Biden. Why didn't the VP bother to clap on that one? Glenn has the audio and answer on radio today. WATCH

Why isn't Secret Service visiting Peter Fonda?
Especially since the Secret Service paid a special visit to a 13-year-old who made a comment about Obama, you'd think these fightin words would warrant a visit from the men in black: "I'm training my grandchildren to use long-range rifles. For what purpose? Well, I'm not going to say the words 'Barack Obama,' but..." So far no word if the author of these words - Peter Fonda - is getting interrogated by the Secret Service at the moment. Stay tuned and read more HERE.
