"We have gone to the capitals of our states and to the capitals of our government.  We have talked to all the power brokers.  The only power broker, the only seat of government that can and will solve this problem with or without us is God.  It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths, all around the world," Glenn said in his initial announcement.

The Dreyfuss Initiative: An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss

ncc The Dreyfuss Initiative: An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 7-9 PM at The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia

A FREE EXCLUSIVE  ONE-NIGHT ONLY EVENT FOR LISTENERS OF THE NEW TALK RADIO 1210, WPHT

Academy Award winning actor Richard Dreyfuss is best known for starring in film, television, and theater roles since the late 1960s, including the films American Graffiti, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Goodbye Girl, Stakeout, Always, What About Bob? and Mr. Holland's Opus.  He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1977 for The Goodbye Girl, and was nominated in 1995 for Mr. Holland's Opus.

Now,  Richard Dreyfuss is taking on a new role. The Oscar-winning actor is Founder and President of The Dreyfuss Initiative, which calls for a cross-curricular study of civics in our public schools that incorporates...

- HISTORY      - LOGIC      - REASON      - CRITICAL THINKING

The Dreyfuss Initiative, a nonprofitorganization committed to revitalizing America's civic culture.   Richard also serves on the American Bar Association's Education Committee, the Board of the National Constitution Center, and was Senior Research Advisory Member of St. Antony's College, Oxford University.

THIS WILL BE AN ENTERTAINING EVENING FOR PARENTS, FOR STUDENTS, FOR EVERYONE!

Richard will share why he believes that too many of us don't realize the power we hold in a democracy. The solution, he says, is to change the way students learn about civics, the study of the rights and duties of citizenship.  Learn why we need a national standard that calls for teaching reason, logic and critical thinking skills before teaching government as a way of providing perspective and context in civics classes.

ARE AMERICAN STUDENTS PREPARED TO INHERIT THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR GREAT NATION?

Richard Dreyfuss joins 1210s Dom Giordano for this unique 2-hour LIVE event and will lay out the critically important issues, and discuss why he believes we must be preparing our nation's next generation to be effective and engaged citizens.

The event is free.  Seating is limited.  You must register to attend.

Michael J. Totten

Why Lebanon Matters

As revolutions and uprisings overtake the Middle East-with Western forces in Libya, Basher Assad crushing Syrian rebels, and Egypt under tension-does little Lebanon matter?

Very much so, argues Michael J. Totten, a foreign correspondent noted for his behind-the scenes conversations with many key players in the region-including Hezbollah.

His new and insightful book, The Road to Fatima Gate, offers Totten's first hand experiences of the 2005 Cedar Revolution, the devastating 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, and the latter's progressive assault on Lebanon's elected government.

A noted journalist-his work has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Jerusalem Post and many other publications-Totten will offer a sobering assessment of Lebanon and its overlooked significance in Middle East politics.

The Forum thanks the offices of Cozen O'Connor for hosting this event.

RedState Morning Briefing

For May 25, 2011

1. The GOP Loss In New York Was About New York, Not Paul Ryan

Republicans suck in New York. Period. End of Story.

The GOP lost the special election in NY-26 and the media and Democrats are heralding it as proof that the GOP is getting punished for wanting to reform medicare.

Back when the GOP lost the 2009 special election in New York featuring Dede Scozzafava, et al, the Democrats heralded the GOP defeat as proof that Republican opposition to Obamacare and being the "Party of No" was a clear sign that the Democrats were right on the agenda and the GOP's obstruction of Barack Obama would be punished by the voters.

That was before the GOP went on to win the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races and pick up Ted Kennedy's (!!!!) seat in Massachusetts.

To say that this special election defeat of the GOP is a repudiation of the GOP's efforts on Medicare is laughable on its face.

The truth of the matter is that the Republican Party of New York sucks and has sucked for a while. It is especially terrible at special elections where the out of touch party leaders pick state legislators who everyone hates and runs them.

Jane Corwin is a sitting member of the NY State Legislature, just like Jim Tedisco, just like Dede Scozzafava, and she was handpicked by the party elders. Notice a trend?

When the GOP made major gains in New York State in 2010 they did so by avoiding like the plague Republican members of the state legislature, including a "retired FBI agent, retired colonel, eye doctor, businessman, small town mayor, and an attorney."

2. Conservatives Stand to Lose Big in 2012

After the historic gains made by conservatives - not just Republicans - in 2010, the conservative movement stands to slide back and lose in 2012.

I'm not talking about the race to the White House. I'm talking about the United States Senate. At a time when Senate Republicans refuse to lead and Mitch McConnell is doing his best to marginalize the solid conservatives, the right is distracted by the White House. The same GOP that tried to stick the right with Trey Greyson, Charlie Crist, Mike Castle, and more is going to try again. If conservatives are not vigilant, they're going to be stuck with the likes of Heather Wilson, etc.

Let's review the lay of the land and the states I'm interested in.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

3. Tornadoes And AGW?

Global Warming must be remarkable. It not only spawns more tornadoes, but it aims them directly for urban areas these days. It most likely does neither, and I'll lay off the snark. What happened recently in both Joplin, MO., and Tuscaloosa, AL was very serious and very dangerous.

It just requires certain patience, I guess. It requires equipoise not to slam backers of the Rapture by Anthropogenic Global Warming Cult when they hitch their theoretical wagon to any unpleasant weather event that comes to pass and claims that this proves our climate is being irreparably changed. Just recently, we all got reminded of how it was the 5-year anniversary of "An Inconvenient Truth." As if anyone needed reminding that there was such a theory as The Greenhouse Hypothesis.

Fortunately, more intelligent commentators have taken up the question of whether AGW was increasingly causing strong tornadoes. ABC News asked Greg Garbin of The National Weather Center about the connection between tornadoes and AGW. They ask him the question point-blank below.

4. Benjamin Netanyahu's Speech to Congress: a Reinforcement, not a Renegotiation

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to a joint session of the U.S. Congress for the second time today (and for the first time in fifteen years), fresh off a meeting with President Obama on Friday, Obama's Middle Eastern address Thursday, and dueling weekend speeches between the two leaders at AIPAC.

The first few minutes were well-used defining the scope of the current fight against Islamist extremism ("from the Khyber Pass to the Straits of Gibraltar"), pointing out the genocidal rhetoric and growing nuclear capability of an Iranian regime whose only pause in its drive toward becoming a nuclear weapons state came when it truly feared military action, and welcoming the Arab revolutions while cautioning that 1979 Iran provides a foreboding precedent that should inform us all of how wrong such actions can go, even when undertaken with the best of intentions.

5. The NLRB's Opening Of Pandora's Box Beyond Boeing

Since President Obama's National Labor Relations Board announced its prosecution of the Boeing Company last month, there has been much commentary around the topic and its possible effects. Some have stated that the attack on Boeing is an attack on Right-to-Work states (even though it applies to companies in all states), others have correctly stated that the NLRB wants to make unions an 'equal partner' in the running of business. Some also add that the NLRB's actions will create further incentive for businesses to avoid union-heavy blue states as well as raise the possibility of sending more U.S. jobs overseas. What has not been addressed until now is just how the legal theories behind the NLRB's dangerous prosecution of Boeing, if successful, could apply to companies without unions, as well.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

6. Obama Lied, AIPAC Died

At the AIPAC conference on Sunday, Obama continued to propagate his lies and ignorance regarding the history of U.S. foreign policy towards Israel. Undaunted by recent criticism, Obama doubled down on his demand that Israel return to indefensible borders by creating a contiguous Palestinian state. As such, he continued to display his ignorance of the geographical reality that a contiguous Hamas-Fatah state bordering Jordan and Egypt, as stipulated in both speeches, means a noncontiguous Israel. I guess he can see a Palestinian state (and unicorns) from the White House.

He also regurgitated his cloddish platitude that Hamas must "accept the basic responsibilities of peace." I could only imagine FDR declaring that the Nazis must change their ways and accept responsibility for peace. Moreover, Obama's teleprompter continued to lie about the dangers of the "Arab Spring", especially in Egypt, to Israel's (and America's) security. He even castigated them by saying, "If there is a controversy, then, it's not based in substance." Concurrently, he made sure to mention the names of his token liberal Jews like Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod, and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz so that everything would appear kosher. It was also helpful that Imam Magid, an unindicted co-conspirator with Hamas, wasn't in attendance this time, as he was last Thursday.

Don't Let Liberal Establishment Choose Our Candidates

By David Limbaugh · Tuesday, May 24, 2011

David LimbaughConservatives are worried that an ideal Reagan conservative has yet to emerge and lead the 2012 GOP presidential field. But are we allowing the liberal media (and establishment Republicans) to manipulate the narrative to prevent such a result?

Obviously, the liberal media do not have the best interests of Reagan conservatives in mind when they do their "reporting." So when they tell us certain GOP candidates are unelectable or electable, common sense would counsel us to take their advice with mounds of salt. But do we?

I expected President Barack Obama's AIPAC speech would be a bunch of feel-good clichés to persuade the audience that he is Israel's best friend. Thus there would be nothing worth analyzing in it. But as I read the speech carefully I was astonished at how thoroughly Obama reveals his underlying miscomprehension, indifference, and even hostility toward Israel.

Examine this speech and you see everything wrong - far more than in his Cairo or State Department speeches on the Middle East - with Obama's view of Israel and why he cannot be trusted on this issue.

American-born militant links Pakistan to 2008 Mumbai attacks

    Tom Gianni / AP

A Pakistani intelligence officer worked closely with top operatives of one of that country's leading terrorist groups to select the targets for the deadly November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, India, a former member of the terror organization testified on Monday.

The testimony of David Coleman Headley, a confessed American-born terrorist who once ran a popular bar in Philadelphia, is likely to further inflame U.S.-Pakistani relations, which are already strained because of the U.S. killing of Osama Bin Laden.

    WaPo: Obama wrong again

    By Editorial,

PRESIDENT OBAMA and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu have a powerful and urgent common interest. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has turned his back on both Israel and the United States; he is seeking accommodation with the extremist Hamas movement and has announced that he will seek a declaration of Palestinian statehood from the U.N. General Assembly in September. The result could be what Mr. Netanyahu's defense minister calls "a diplomatic tsunami" against Israel and possibly the eruption of another Israeli-Palestinian war. As for the United States, the U.N. vote could isolate it in support of Israel, undermine the ambitious strategy that Mr. Obama has just announced to promote democracy in the Arab world - and maybe derail the Arab Spring itself.

Now, of all times, the Israeli and U.S. governments ought to be working closely together; they should be trying to defuse the U.N. threat, induce Mr. Abbas to change...

The conflict is not ONLY about Arab rejectionism.

    By Ted Belman

"The Conflict Is Not about the 1967 Lines" writes Alana Goodman in COMMENTARY

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was outspoken in his criticism of President Obama's speech last Thursday, and he took another swipe at the president during an address to AIPAC this evening. Cantor said that the Palestinians refuse to accept Israel's existence because they have "a culture infused with resentment and hatred" of the Jewish state.

"And this is the root of Israel's conflict with the Palestinians. It is not about the '67 lines," said Cantor, prompting an extended standing ovation.

I am pleased that AIPAC understands this and now more Americans do. But I disagree, not with the fact that the Arabs refuse to accept a Jewish State in the ME, but with the idea that but for that the '67 lines with swaps, would be acceptable.

    Obama's Neville Chamberlain Speech

In his May 19 speech on the Middle East, President Obama, in a matter of minutes, abandoned Security Council Resolution 242, which for more than four decades had been the cornerstone of diplomacy in pursuit of Arab-Israeli peace; likewise abandoned the Roadmap, adopted in 2003 by the so-called Quartet (the U.S., UN, EU and Russia) as a blueprint for resolving, more specifically, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; committed his Administration to pushing Israel back to indefensible borders; and essentially adopted as Administration policy Mahmoud Abbas's variation on Arafat's "Plan of Phases" for Israel's destruction.

The cumulative impact of Obama's declarations is to chart a course for Israel comparable to that charted for Czechoslovakia in 1938 when Neville Chamberlain endorsed Hitler's demands of that country.

"We believe," declared the President, in just one of his statements undermining Israel, "the borders of Israel...

DNC Seeks to Create "Gag Order" to Protect Vulnerable Candidates
Brooks Cites Gaza 54 Letter and Obama "1967 Lines" Speech

Washington, D.C. (May 24, 2011) -- In response to press reports about a joint meeting of Republican and Democratic leaders with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz asked the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) and other Republican groups to pledge to refrain from using Israel as an issue in the upcoming campaign season, Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matthew Brooks sent the following letter today to Wasserman Schultz.

In his letter, Brooks reaffirmed that the RJC would not take the vital issue of Israel's security off the table in the U.S. public policy debate, and made clear that, "...it is important for both of us to continue to speak out freely when individuals in our parties break from a position of support for Israel."

Brooks also wrote, "I hope you agree with me that no one - in either party - whether it is the President of the United States, a candidate for President or a rank and file member - should be shielded from criticism if their positions are harmful to Israel's well being. Covering up anti-Israel positions by gagging debate about them doesn't help anyone; instead it only protects those who hope to get away with their anti-Israel positions. The Jewish community has a right to be informed about people's records and people should be answerable for the positions they take. That is the essence of democracy."

The full text of the letter is below.

    Brooks - Wasserman letter

    May 24, 2011

    The Honorable Debbie Wasserman Schultz

    Chairman

    Democratic National Committee

    430 S. Capitol St. SE

    Washington, D.C. 20003

    By facsimile: 202-863-8174

    Dear Chairwoman Wasserman Shultz:

It was a pleasure to be with you at yesterday's bipartisan meeting involving the Republican Jewish Coalition and representatives from the National Jewish Democratic Council. It is always an honor to be with an Israeli Prime Minister and I know you are as grateful as I am for the time he gave us so we could discuss matters that involve Israel's security.

I also commend you personally for your pro-Israel record as a Congresswoman. There is no question that when it comes to how you vote, you have always been strong for Israel. Not everyone in Congress is like you and that's why it is important for both of us to continue to speak out freely when individuals in our parties break from a position of support for Israel. I did so just two weeks ago when Congressman Ron Paul announced his candidacy for President.

In order to maintain bipartisan support for Israel, the RJC will continue to publicly point out the records and statements of public officials who stray from this bipartisan position. I hope you will do the same and not feel pressure to sweep under the rug or whitewash the positions of anyone in your party whose positions represent a threat to Israel's security.

I hope you agree with me that no one - in either party - whether it's the President of the United States, a candidate for President or a rank and file member - should be shielded from criticism if their positions are harmful to Israel's well being. Covering up anti-Israel positions by gagging debate about them doesn't help anyone; instead it only protects those who hope to get away with their anti-Israel positions. The Jewish community has a right to be informed about people's records and people should be answerable for the positions they take. That is the essence of democracy.

Indeed, several leading Democrats have exercised their right to free speech when they criticized President Obama's controversial statement that, "The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps."

Former New York City Mayor and lifelong Democrat Ed Koch responded, "If President Obama does not change his position, I cannot vote for his reelection."

According to a story in today's Politico, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, in his remarks to AIPAC, rebuked President Obama for his remarks.

However, in our meeting with the Prime Minister, you appealed to us, in front of the leader of a foreign nation, to pledge to refrain from any debate about these matters. I do not think that the timing or the venue you chose for raising this issue was appropriate.

I recognize that now, as the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, you are in a position where you must support candidates whose positions on Israel are different from yours.

To that end, I understand why you would like to shield and provide political amnesty to those Democrats whose positions undermine Israel's security.

For example, in Wisconsin, your party is likely to nominate a signer of the Gaza 54 letter, Rep. Tammy Baldwin, to replace Senator Herb Kohl.

In New Mexico, the Democrats are likely to nominate Congressman Martin Heinrich, who refused to join 344 colleagues in condemning the Goldstone report.

And in Connecticut, your party is likely to nominate Congressman Chris Murphy, who accepted major financial support from J Street in two different election cycles.

I understand that you would like to stifle debate in the Jewish community on these issues, but the RJC believes they are legitimate issues and part of a healthy and vigorous debate. Indeed, the best way to avoid debating them is for Democratic candidates not to hold positions that weaken Israel's security, in which case both parties would be fully joined together in strong support of Israel.

    Sincerely,

    Matthew Brooks

    Executive Director

    The Heritage Foundation
    New Common Sense
Applying First Principles to the Issues of Today

    Politics, Poverty, and Principles

When The Catholic University of America announced that Speaker of the House John Boehner would give the 2011 commencement address, a collection of faculty members sent him a letter chastising his failure to recognize "important aspects of Catholic teaching," specifically, "the desperate needs of the poor." Boehner's most recent offense was shepherding  the passage of Paul Ryan's budget, which "guts long-established protections for the most vulnerable members of society."

These professors imply that life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short without Uncle Sam's helping hand and deep pocketbook. Their recent attack against Speaker Boehner's record and, by extension, Paul Ryan's budget, rests upon certain flawed assumptions about the nature of poverty and the role of government.

If the cause of poverty is reducible to the lack of specific material goods-money, housing, food, clothing, education, and health care-then providing those goods would eliminate poverty. Providing an income, supplying housing, food stamps, public education, and free health care does not require any complex knowledge of the poor. Indeed, a bureaucrat could enroll poor individuals in a program to receive welfare payments, designate housing for them, distribute food stamps, and provide them with access to education and medical care. If poverty is merely material want, then our current system of bureaucrats, paperwork, and a treasure trove of government money can solve it.

Yet this large "more compassionate" government has failed to eradicate or even significantly reduce poverty, as Ryan Messmore explains in his latest article "Does Advocating Limited Government Mean Abandoning the Poor?". Since the War on Poverty began in 1965, the federal government has spent $16 trillion on welfare-to no avail. Rather than helping low-income families climb the ladder of social mobility, government programs have fostered welfare dependence. The total number of welfare recipients has tripled between 1960 and 1996 (the year of welfare reform). Out of wedlock births have increased (exceeding 70 percent among the African American population). The overall poverty rate has remained unchanged over the past four decades.

But, poverty is not primarily a material problem. Therefore, no amount of government spending can overcome poverty. Moreover, as Representative Paul Ryan explains in his letter to Archbishop Timothy Dolan, relying on government spending to solve poverty is a failed strategy, especially when government is approaching bankruptcy. These government programs inevitably fail, because the paradigm for approaching the problem is false. Poverty is usually more complex than a simple lack of material resources. There is a third option besides a cradle to grave welfare program and the poor dying in the streets alone and ignored.

Poverty in America is often the result of a relational problem, such as fatherlessness or community breakdown, which government programs cannot adequately address. People receive the most effective care from those who know and interact with them regularly: friends and family members can tailor solutions to particular needs. In cases where no family structure exists or the severity of the problems overwhelm a single family unit, local congregations and ministries cultivate and restore the foundational relationships of life and provide personalized help. Indeed, churches historically have led the way in developing schools, hospitals, disaster relief agencies, and savings and loan programs. Lastly, businesses provide employment opportunities that are essential to overcome poverty.

The primary purpose of government, then, is to create and maintain an overall environment of safety, order, freedom, and peace, which includes upholding justice through laws and responding to threats to social harmony. By maintaining public safety, the rule of law, and justice, government protects all citizens (including the weak and the vulnerable) and ensures that healthy relationships can grow and thrive in the context of family, church, and local community. In those rare and dire situations, when civil society organizations cannot meet people's basic tangible needs, the government can provide a safety net of material support. This safety net, though, should be temporary and should not foster long-term dependence on government or supplant the family, the church, or the community.

The idea that "a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions" is not alien to America's principles. What Archbishop Timothy Dolan explains as the principle of subsidiarity, Representative Paul Ryan praises as federalism.

Limited government does not harm the poor. In fact, a properly limited government encourages the institutions and associations best suited to serve the poor.  Creating a dichotomy between an expansive (and expensive) anti-poverty government programming and people dying in the streets is false and misleading. Together, limited government, free enterprise, and a strong civil society foster the kind of communities that enable people to escape poverty.

General Motors Will Never Repay Taxpayers

Obama's spin on GM's latest profit report is pure baloney

    Reason.com | Shikha Dalmia | May 24, 2011

The Obama administration, and its media backers, have seized upon news that General Motors made a $3.2 billion profit in the first quarter of 2011 as proof positive that its auto bailout is a success. President Obama is so buoyed that he is reportedly planning to make the bailout a major part of his reelection campaign.

But by this standard, Charlie Sheen's comedy tour ought to be declared a smash hit. Sheen's backers will lose relatively less money on him than taxpayers will on the bailout.

May 1, 2011, Los Angeles - Have you seen this in the media?

These are basically people who want what you and other Americans have, insist they deserve it, and have been promised by politicians that it'll come to them through "social justice."

Obama's Union Drops Its Mask and Shows Its True Colors

A May Day rally in Los Angeles, sponsored by the SEIU (Service Employees International Union), various communist groups, Latino organizations and other labor unions, represents yet another step in the increased celebration of communist and socialist militants since the Obama era began. Not only did the SEIU (one of Obama's favorite organizations - view the linked clip) help to sponsor the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with them, union members carrying communist flags, communists carrying union signs. And altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart.

Southern California journalist "Ringo" was on hand to record the day's events, and he posted a full-length photo essay of the day's events. Here a selection of those photos.  More are available for viewing in a link further down.

When I tell people that public political rallies are more and more being led by communists and socialists, most folks simply don't believe me. "Oh, come on, you're just giving decent protesters an extreme label," they say.  No, I'm not and would have no reason to. The communists freely and proudly declare their affiliation, and the SEIU, encouraged by President Obama's administration, has no problem marching arm-in-arm with them.

The House passed a 2012 budget on April 15th. The Senate last passed a budget in 2009.

Tell Your Senators to Pass the House Budget

America is in a financial mess, accumulating dangerous debt with no end in sight. Harry Reid said it would be "foolish" for Democrats to offer a budget plan. Getting into this mess was foolish. Putting a real plan on the table to fix this mess is leadership.

    >>Take action now: call your Senators and tell them to support the House-passed budget.

Liberals in Congress don't want to make the tough decisions needed in order to get our country out of this crisis and back on track. Their only plan is to raise taxes and mislead the public about what conservatives have offered.

    >>Take action now: call your Senators and tell them to lead!

Politicians who have put the next election before the interests of the next generation have driven our country to the brink, and it needs to stop. We need commonsense reforms that will reduce the size of government, deal with exploding entitlements, and promote economic growth. It is not perfect, but the House-passed budget does that and begins to change the fiscal trajectory of the country. It is an important start .

Call now: Help us send a strong message to the Washington Establishment that out-of-control spending is no longer acceptable.

Thank you in advance for making the call and standing on principle.

     National Association For Gun Rights

Yesterday afternoon, Harry Reid and the Obamacrats in the Senate conspired with big government Republicans to move forward with debate on extending the badly mis-named U.S.A. Patriot Act (S. 1038) for four more years.

(You can click here to see how your Senator voted.)
This means that Reid and his Republican conspirators could move for a final vote on extending the mis-named Patriot Act (S. 1038) as early as THIS THURSDAY.

Thankfully, capitol insiders tell me that the battle is far from over.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul -- a true champion for gun owners -- is set to propose a series of pro-liberty amendments to S. 1038 in the coming days. Procedural maneuvering by Senator Paul and other liberty-minded Senators will require another cloture vote before the Senate can vote on final passage.

That means Reid and his anti-gun cabal will have to get 60 votes in the affirmative to move forward. Reid's weak-kneed allies will lack their "classic" insider trick of voting "Present" as that will count the same as a "No" vote.

Liberty-minded activists like you can still halt the four-year extension of the mis-named Patriot Act, but only if we make our voices heard, TODAY.

Can I count on you to contact both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121 and demand they oppose re-authorization of the Patriot Act?

What does extending the anti-gun Patriot Act mean for you and gun owners across the country?

The radically anti-gun White House is desperate to keep the tools of the mis-named Patriot Act to spy on "domestic terrorists" -- translate that to mean law-abiding gun owners like you and me.

A four-year extension of the mis-named Patriot Act gives government jackboots more and more tools in their war on gun owners and gun rights activists, who Obamacrats smear as "Radical Extremists" and even "Domestic Terrorists."

Even a gesture as simple as placing a pro-gun bumper sticker on your car or supporting a pro-gun candidate makes you a potential "domestic terrorist" in the eyes of the Obamacrats currently running our government.

That makes YOU a potential target of unconstitutional domestic spying.

It is imperative that gun owners like you and me continue to pressure our Senators to say "NO" to the Patriot Act.

Time is essential. I need you to call both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121, right now, and tell them gun owners demand they oppose the re-authorization of the Patriot Act.

Once you've called both your U.S. Senators, can I count on you to forward this e-mail to your gun owning friends and family?

This cannot wait. The more pressure we put on each Senator, the better our odds of defeating the freedom-smashing extension of the mis-named Patriot Act.

I need you to immediately contact both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121 and demand that they oppose re-authorization of the Patriot Act.

Tell them that a vote to extend the mis-named Patriot Act is a vote against your basic Constitutional rights.

Once you've contacted your Senators please chip in $15 or $20 to help the National Association for Gun Rights contact more gun owners about the outrageous attempt to extend the mis-named Patriot Act.
Thank you for standing with me.

       For Liberty,

      signature
       Dudley Brown
       Executive Director

P.S. Please don't delay. Harry Reid's scheme to extend the mis-named Patriot Act could be voted on as early as this Thursday.

I need you to immediately both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121 and demand that they oppose re-authorization of the Patriot Act.

Tell them that you know a vote for cloture is a vote against your basic Constitutional rights.

Once you've contacted your Senators please chip in $15 or $20 to help the National Association for Gun Rights contact more gun owners about the outrageous attempt to extend the mis-named Patriot Act.

Who ended 'Medicare as we know it'?

    May 24, 2011

In today's special election for the 26th district US House seat in western New York, Democrats are trying out a tactic they're sure to use nationwide in 2012 -- the obscenely false claim that they will save "Medicare as we know it" from Republican efforts to reform it.

The truth is, the Obama health law, passed by Democrats last year, already eviscerated Medicare -- though seniors won't feel the effects for some time. And the reform plan Democrats are attacking -- Rep. Paul Ryan's entitlement-reform vision -- would undo much of the damage, while charting a new course to ensure Medicare doesn't run out of money.

"Medicare as we know it" can't survive ObamaCare's cuts of $575 billion from the program's funding over the next decade. Just as outrageous is that the Obama law stole $410 billion of those "savings" to expand eligibility for Medicaid.

It's like robbing Peter to pay Paul -- but it's robbing Grandma to create a whole new class of government dependants.

    Bibi Before Congress

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a joint session of Congress today. He got a rousing reception from members of both political parties as he delivered a passionate defense of the American/Israeli alliance, described the failure of the peace process and boldly outlined his vision of a future Palestinian state. Netanyahu spoke with just a few notes and without the assistance of a teleprompter. Here are some excerpts of his remarks:

THE ARAB UPRISINGS: "Of the 300 million Arabs in the Middle East and North Africa, only Israel's Arab citizens enjoy real democratic rights. I want you to stop for a second and think about that. Of those 300 million Arabs, less than one-half of one-percent are truly free, and they're all citizens of Israel. This startling fact reveals a basic truth: Israel is not what is wrong about the Middle East. Israel is what is right about the Middle East."

    IRAN AND PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH:

"President Obama has said that the United States is determined to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. ...Yet the Ayatollah regime briefly suspended its nuclear program only once, in 2003, when it feared the possibility of military action. That same year, Muammar Qadaffi gave up his nuclear weapons program, and for the same reason. The more Iran believes that all options are on the table, the less the chance of confrontation. ...

ACRU Brief Argues for 'Coercion Test' in Utah Highway Cross Case

May 23, 2011 - Memorial crosses honoring fallen Utah Highway Patrol Officers are not an unconstitutional establishment of religion because there is no coercion involved, the American Civil Rights Union (ACRU) argues in an amicus curiae brief filed today in the U.S. Supreme Court.

The ACRU's brief in support of the Petitioners in Davenport et al. v. American Atheists, Inc., urges the Court to grant certiorari to review the ruling of the Tenth Circuit finding the cross memorials to be an unconstitutional establishment of the Christian religion.

"This case presents an opportunity for an historic, landmark ruling that will return Establishment Clause law to the language and history of the Constitution and intent of the framers, freeing religious expression from government prohibition and control," said ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara. "It is long past time to establish a principled foundation for Establishment Clause law rooted in the Constitutional text and our nation's history and cultural heritage."

Obamacare Bombshell: Final Ruling May Wait Until After 2012 Election

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published May 23, 2011 on The Washington Examiner website.

Federal appeals judges dropped an Obamacare bombshell today that could change the calendar of when the Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether the president's signature law is unconstitutional.

Two major lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare were argued on May 10 before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. One case was brought by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, arguing that the "individual mandate" that people must buy health insurance is unconstitutional. The other case was brought by Liberty University, where law school dean Mat Staver is challenging both the individual mandate and a similar requirement on companies employing 50-plus people, called the "employer mandate."

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published May 20, 2011 on The Washington Times website.

Every so often, a single incident epitomizes larger truths. One of these larger truths is that all issues, whether social or fiscal, are moral issues.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn's arrest on charges of sexually assaulting a New York hotel maid is a snapshot into the relationship between the ruling class and the working poor. I mean, assuming the allegation is true, didn't she know her place? According to police, she tried to get away from the French Socialist Party luminary.

For socialists, the little people are valued mainly as pawns for expanding government power. That's why the IMF keeps propping up socialist governments such as those in Greece and Portugal.

How The Government Created A Financial Crisis

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Policy Director for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published on May 19, 2011 on Forbes.com.

Facing double digit inflation, double digit interest rates and soon to be double digit unemployment, President Reagan came into office with a four point economic program on which he had explicitly campaigned, fundamentally changing the course of American economic policy. As discussed in my recent op-ed, "Reaganomics vs. Obamanomics: Facts and Figures," those four points were:

    1. Reduce tax rates sharply to improve incentives for savings, investment, job creation, business start-ups and expansion, entrepreneurship and work.
    2. Cut unnecessary government spending.
    3. Pursue anti-inflationary monetary policy to maintain a stable dollar.
    4. Deregulation to reduce costs for business and consumers and to increase efficiency.

Globalism Destroys America: 10 Reasons Why The World Trade Organization Is Bad For The United States Economy

It's 2011 now and this article still holds true, in fact it has gotten a lot worse, With the upcoming elections we need a president that will deal with the real issues, if they don't mention this problem directly by name, WTO and are not even going to attempt to get us off this ride to poverty we don't need them, we need the real deal.

In 2010, education has been so "dumbed down" in America that most Americans don't even know what the WTO is, and even fewer understand why the WTO is important. The truth is that the World Trade Organization is essentially a global government for world trade.  It is a "contract" that severely restricts the ability of member nations to direct their own economies and set their own trade policies.  The United Nations is perhaps the only international organization that has more power than the WTO.  It was created on January 1st, 1995 as a replacement for GATT (the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade).  Today, 153 nations representing more than 97% of total world trade are members of the WTO.  It has been largely responsible for the explosion in world trade that we have witnessed over the past several decades.  In fact, world trade is now over 15 times larger than it was 50 years ago.  But is this a good thing?

    No, it is not.

The following are 10 reasons why the World Trade Organization is bad for America.....

THE PRESIDENT WHO DREAMS OF BEING KING

    By Michael LeMieux
    May 24, 2011
    NewsWithViews.com

One of the great powers of being a king is the ability to award staunch supporters and friends positions of power and wealth within the king's domain. Once a subject is raised to one of these lofty positions he is allowed to remain there at the pleasure of the king, and as long as he does the kings bidding the endowed subject is allowed to remain in his position of power.

Currently in the Senate is bill S.679 entitled "Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011." This bill, introduced by Senator Schumer and a whole list of communist want-to-bees, including Harry Reid, desires to give the President the power to appoint many high level executive office positions from "advice and consent of the Senate" to positions that are appointed by the President and are retained in those positions "at his pleasure."

    READ MORE:

Please contact your Congressmen and demand that they vote against Senate Bill 679 - Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011

So throughout his term in office he has been determined to get his agenda in place either with the assistance of Congress or in defiance of them. He is acting as a king with a puppet parliament that no longer wants to be manipulated and he will get his way. WHAT ?
But how can that be done because the Congress must consent to most positions of presidential nominations - enter Senate Bill 679.Though the title includes the words streamlining and efficiency; the only thing it streamlines and makes more efficient is the president's ability to place key people in strategic positions and to have the power to do so without ANY oversight.
Executive orders are the means by which the President directs his staff and if abused can cause the departments to act under the color of law as we have already seen with the EPA and its desire to regulate CO2 without congressional legislation. This would create a true fiat government - a government relegated presidential decree via the Executive Order.

Redistributing the Wealth State:   House Republicans $603,543,000 Budget Proposed 2011-12

The House Republicans have proposed a budget that redistributes six hundred and three million ($603, 543,000) dollars, $ 6.03 BILLION dollars, of The Forgotten Taxpayer's wealth to billionaire private corporations1.

The Forgotten Taxpayer Is Forced to Subsidize Billionaires?

Because these private billion dollar budget corporations are structured as "nonprofit", they do not pay local property taxes on their 100s of acres of property and do not pay State or Federal Taxes except for payroll deductions from wages.

What was the purpose of billions of dollars in subsidies to billion dollar private corporations? Lower Tuitions?  Or Higher Salaries? Or More Administrators ?

House Majority Leader Representative Mike Turzai and Appropriations Chair calls this "fiscally responsible" "prioritizing spending"  focused on The Forgotten Taxpayer.

    Cain
    responds
    to Rove and
    Krauthammer

    Photograph of Herman Cain
Fresh off his presidential campaign announcement Sunday, Herman Cain sought to push back against criticism from some prominent GOP opinion leaders. Karl Rove, for example, called him a "talk radio guy" and Charles Krauthammer said his candidacy was for "entertainment."
"Karl Rove, I respect. Krauthammer, I have a lot of respect for - he's one of the thoughtful conservatives out there," Cain told The Daily Caller. "My response is ... I'm not running to become president of the establishment. I am running to become president of the people of the United States of America."
"[Rove and Krauthammer] will eventually wake up and realize that I am a serious candidate for the nomination" - Cain added - when they "realize there is a disconnect between establishment thinking and real world thinking."
Speaking of average Americans, Cain has impressed many conservatives with his speaking ability, not to mention his credentials in terms of business and leadership experience, but has sometimes stumbled over foreign policy questions. Ron Paul's Straight Talk on the National Debt Ceiling

    Photo of Ron Paul
According to Geithner, the debt will now reach the limit on August 2. He is urging Congress to increase the limit and allow Treasury to issue more bonds. The alternative, he says, is a doomsday scenario.
Congressman and 2012 presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-Texas) is having none of it. Paul argues that "in spite of how cataclysmic some might say it would be if we did not pass a new debt ceiling, it is hardly the catastrophe that has been advertised."
Paul, in fact, thinks things will be far worse - in the long run, if not much sooner - if Congress gives in to Geithner's demands. Raising the debt ceiling, he argues, will tell the world: "Business as usual will continue in Washington; no real spending cuts will be made; and fiscal austerity will remain a pipe dream." Under these circumstances creditors will be far less likely to loan Washington money at favorable terms than they are now, exacerbating the debt problem. Eventually these creditors will "finally wise up and cut us off," Paul maintains, at which time "we will be forced to face economic realities whether we want to or not."
Paul maintains it would be better "to deal with the tough choices we face now, on our own terms, rather than wait until we are at the mercy of foreign creditors." His recommended plan of attack: Don't raise the debt ceiling; slash spending. [The New American, May 24]      Click here for the full story

    Giuliani
    Sees an

    Field

    Photo of Rudy Giuliani
The loftiest trial balloon yet from Rudy Giuliani's camp was hoisted up on Monday night by Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., who told reporters that the former New York mayor and 2008 candidate was leaning toward mounting a run.
A 2008 Giuliani aide told Power Play that key members of the old team are "staying loose" in anticipation of a potential run. He said the exploration seemed to have entered "a different phase" and that Giuliani had grown increasingly serious as the Republican field took shape. "You can't look at the Republican field and say that there isn't room," the former aide said.
King, a longtime ally of Giuliani and a former surrogate on terrorism and security issues, floated the Rudy run at a Washington media dinner hosted by conservative magazine the American Spectator. It's the latest and greatest sign from a slow-developing effort from Giuliani's inner circle.
In a speech to a Republican lawyers' group earlier this month, Giuliani made it clear he was considering the possibility but wanted to see who else got into the race. He had previously taken a "not closing the door" line, but the rhetoric has lately taken a turn toward interest rather than non-resistance. [Fox News, May 24]      Click here for the full story

Obama digging up dirt on potential opponent Chris Christie

    Photo of Chris Christie

Despite New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's repeated pronouncements that he will not seek the GOP presidential nomination, Obama operatives are compiling a dossier of what they call "opposition research" -- material that could be used to damage Christie if he changes his mind.
The Obama campaign is trying to keep its efforts from public view, concerned they would only elevate Christie's already impressive standing within the Republican Party. The operatives have chosen not to dispatch their own people to New Jersey, but instead are talking to people there and in New York who know Christie from his time in the governor's office, as a gubernatorial candidate and as US attorney.
Obama's campaign manager, Jim Messina, did not respond to messages.
Christie has repeatedly -- and colorfully --said he is not running for president in 2012. "Short of suicide, I don't really know what I'd have to do to convince you people that I'm not running. I'm not running," he's insisted.
But party leaders have been pushing Christie to enter the race, saying his brand of New Jersey tough talk could put the White House within reach for the GOP. [NY Post, May 23]      Click here for the full story

    What is the lesson
    to be learned from
    NY 26 District?

    TPW logo
Jane Corwin, the GOP candidate for the empty seat in the 26th district of NY, was expected to be a certain winner. But Jack Davis, who calls himself the tea party candidate even though no tea party organization supports him, is taking more than 10% of her votes - and giving her democratic opponent an edge in the polls.
Some national tea party organizations have been called in to help recover some of those votes for Jane Corwin.
Democrat blogs and some republicans are saying this demonstrates that the tea party is the 'spoiler party' and that tea party candidates, real or imposter, will result in more democrats winning elections.
That is not the lesson we should be learning from this. The real message to the GOP is to nominate candidates that tea party members can support and the republican party will easily win a majority in both houses of congress - - and yes - the presidency too.      Click here for the full story

Spring is here, and that means water ice. As the man at the counter placed his order, the total came to $4.30. The clerk-a suburban high-school-aged girl-mistakenly rang it up as 43 cents. No problem. Mistakes happen.

All she had to do was subtract 43 cents from $4.30 and ring up the difference, and we'd be that much closer to our Italian ice. Life would be good.

Except that the line stood still. Turns out the girl was having a major problem-not with the cash register, but the math. After conferring with her colleagues (and presumably a manager), it was determined that such a complex mathematical equation was just too difficult to mentally solve, so she just rang it up as a flat $2 and called it a final sale.

Obama's Toast to the Queen Triggers Awkward Orchestral Moment

The Blaze | by Scott Baker | Posted on May 25, 2011

    ABC News:

The president and the orchestra at Buckingham Palace this evening were a bit out of synch.

When the president toasted the Queen the orchestra misunderstood a pause and what seemed to be a cue from the president for "God Save the Queen" to begin playing.

"Ladies and gentlemen please stand with me and raise your glasses as I propose a toast," the president said, putting down his note cards and grabbing his glass. "To her majesty the Queen."

The president paused, the guests stood, and the orchestra prepared to play.

But the president wasn't done speaking.

"The vitality -" the president said before the orchestra began.

Then the familiar tune - you might know it better as "My Country 'Tis of Thee" - started up.

The president kept going: " - of the special relationship between our peoples and for the words of Shakespeare to this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England," the president said as the awkward moment played out.

The Queen looked ahead as the UK anthem played.

"To the Queen," the president finally said.

    Netanyahu heckled at speech

Far left protesters once again chose disruption and interference over open debate as Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu was heckled during a speech at AIPAC. CODEPINK members began shouting at Netanyahu shortly after he began his speech saying, 'occupying land is indefensible' before being escorted off. Now the media is focusing in on what the protester said and not the actual message from the PM. What did he say about Obama's proposals in the speech ignored by the press? Glenn has the audio and reaction on radio HERE.

Andrea Mitchell woozy after incredible spin

It's no secret Andrea Mitchell is a liberal hack, but her hackery hit a low point recently while commenting on Obama and Israel. Obama had just dissed Israel, and Netanyahu was justifiably upset causing a subsequent meeting to be a bit more tense than usual. Mitchell sympathized with Obama, calling Netanyahu 'rude' and even adding words to Obama's speech to help her point. What words did Mitchell conjure out of thin air and add to her report? Get the details at GlennBeck.com.

    Glenn interviews Herman Cain

Herman Cain has generated a lot of 2012 buzz in large part due to his outsider status as a successful private businessman and has become a Tea Party favorite. Over the weekend he confirmed he is in the running for the GOP Presidential nomination. Does Cain have what it takes to beat Obama? Does he really have Tea Party values and principles? Glenn spoke with Cain on radio today for the first time - you can watch the interview HERE.

President O'Bama? Horribly embarrassing visit for the President

President Obama visited Ireland and the trip did not go off quite as smoothly as he'd probably hoped. First, he attempted to win the crowd by demonstrating his mastery of the Irish accent. That was the first failure and was so mortifying it made Kevin Costner's Irish accent sound plausible. Then as he tried to exit before further making a fool of himself, his massive tank-limo car bottomed out going over a bump and got stuck as hundreds of onlookers stared and laughed. Watch both embarrassing moments and see if Glenn's Irish accent is any better HERE.

Stu's lack of courage rears ugly head AGAIN

Glenn has previously bashed Stu for his complete 'lack' of courage leading up to the Restoring Courage event coming this August in Jerusalem. Glenn extended the criticism today after learning a shocking fact about Stu. Glenn originally slammed Stu's lack of courage after it was revealed that Stu sat quietly in his train seat instead of starting an altercation with a couple engaged in some horrific PDA. This time Stu has really crossed the line - what did he do to be labeled yellow-bellied once again? Find out at GlennBeck.com.

Can't make it to Israel but want to support the cause? Here's one easy way to do that...the Stand with Israel Wristband. Stu will be wearing one too. Net proceeds of this wristband will go towards the cost of this event.

    Another lib reveals his racism

Last week Chris Matthews and David Gregory revealed their own racism by declaring it was racist for Republicans to argue against food stamps - which of course implies Matthews and Gregory believe only black people receive food stamps. Not to be outdone, Paul Krugman makes the same misstep that reveals the accuser is actually the one with a racist view on the world. Glenn has the audio and breakdown HERE.
