Come Meet Brigitte!!
Brigitte Gabriel to Speak in Baltimore, Maryland, and Virginia Beach, Virginia
It's my privilege to invite you to two special events featuring Brigitte Gabriel, ACT! for America President. The events will be held in Baltimore, Maryland, and Virginia Beach, Virginia, and are free and open to the public.
Here are the details:
Date: May 23, 2011 Time: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Location: |
Central Christian 7411 Rossville Blvd Baltimore, Maryland |
Date: May 24, 2011 Time: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Location: |
Rock Church 640 Kempsville Road Virginia Beach, Virginia |
The events of the past eighteen months have been a sobering wake-up call to America. Without question, the threats radical Islam poses to America have increased, and with the election of a new Congress prospects for positive changes to address this threat are promising.
Brigitte will discuss these threats to our safety and security, such as...
- The growing threat of homegrown jihad, with the number of such jihadist plots skyrocketing over the past two years.
- How terrorists are exploiting our porous southern border, often working with drug cartels.
- The increasingly militant-and successful-effort by Islamists worldwide to suppress free speech and criminalize any criticism of Islam.
- The Muslim Brotherhood threat and how Islamic sharia law is creeping into America.
|
But even more important than this, Brigitte will spell out the strategies and tactics ACT! for America is employing to effectively fight back against these threats.
Brigitte's message will be illuminating, at times disturbing and even shocking-but ultimately inspiring, empowering, and filled with hope!
You will hear first-hand how ACT! for America is successfully rolling back the tide of radical Islam...how we don't have to live in fear or resign ourselves to the inevitability of the threats arrayed against us...and how we will prevail.
I also encourage you to email this to people you know who might be interested in attending. In 2008 we did an event like this in Indiana and one of our members in Oregon found out about it and emailed a friend in Indiana-who then brought 21 people to the event!!
We're sending this email to all our members in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Washington DC, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina, because we know, from prior experience, that many people are willing to travel to hear Brigitte speak and they forward announcements like these to people they know who live in the area.
I know those of you who have heard Brigitte will agree-you don't want to miss this! It will be an event people will be talking about for a long time to come!
Invite your friends and come join us in either Baltimore or Virginia Beach. We look forward to seeing you on May 23rd or May 24th.
Yours for a safe and free America,
 Guy Rodgers Executive Director

Michael J. Totten
Why Lebanon Matters
As revolutions and uprisings overtake the Middle East-with Western forces in Libya, Basher Assad crushing Syrian rebels, and Egypt under tension-does little Lebanon matter?
Very much so, argues Michael J. Totten, a foreign correspondent noted for his behind-the scenes conversations with many key players in the region-including Hezbollah.
His new and insightful book, The Road to Fatima Gate, offers Totten's first hand experiences of the 2005 Cedar Revolution, the devastating 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, and the latter's progressive assault on Lebanon's elected government.
A noted journalist-his work has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Jerusalem Post and many other publications-Totten will offer a sobering assessment of Lebanon and its overlooked significance in Middle East politics.
The Forum thanks the offices of Cozen O'Connor for hosting this event.

Independence Hall Tea Party PAC
May 13, 2011
Dear Members and Friends,
PAC endorsed candidate, John Featherman, needs our help at the polls on Primary Election Day, May 17.
If we are to have a serious, vigorous debate, this fall, about the future of Philadelphia, we must help John defeat the "official GOP" machine choice, Karen Brown.
A recent Democrat turned Republican, she is, no doubt, the least qualified GOP-backed candidate to ever run for Mayor of the City of Brotherly. A debate between Mayor David Nutter and Karen Brown would be farcical.
John, on the hand, would be able to articulate a vision for future of a city that was once the Capitol of the United States (see press release below).
If you are interested in volunteering for John at the polls this upcoming Tuesday (you do not have to live in Philly), please call us at 215.620.3055.
The old truism still holds true. Together, we can make a difference.

Tea Party PAC Endorses John Featherman In Mayoral Primary;
Calls Karen Brown's Candidacy Questionable At Best
Philadelphia, PA (May 4, 2011) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party PAC Board of Delegates voted overwhelmingly, last night, to endorse John Featherman in the May 17, 2011 Republican Mayoral Primary.
This marks only the second time the PAC has endorsed a candidate in a non-federal election.
"First and foremost, this endorsement speaks to the intelligence and credibility that John Featherman brings to the table," said PAC President, Don Adams.
"We agree with much of his platform, especially his commitment to enacting School Choice and his pledge to cut the city sales tax, as well as the real estate transfer tax.
"Obviously, we are sending a message to the Philadelphia Republican City Committee that we disapprove of their support for Karen Brown, an unknown, inexperienced candidate who was a registered Democrat through January of this year," said Mr. Adams.
"Why would the Committee support a candidate from the opposing party--especially one with such a limited grasp of the issues--over an elected Republican Committeeman with Mr. Featherman's business background and political acumen?"
Mr. Featherman, an award winning real estate agent with Prudential Fox & Roach, holds an MBA from Columbia University.
"John Featherman would like to eliminate the gross receipts tax to bring more business into the city, thereby creating jobs," said PAC Board Member and Philadelphia resident, Lin DeCesare.
"He also intends to bid out all legally permissible city services, which would save the city millions of dollars.
"John is man of ideas and principles. We are proud to endorse his candidacy and will be working on his behalf now through election day," said Ms. DeCesare.
(In March of this year, the PAC voted unanimously to endorse Patti Weaver, a founder of the Pittsburgh Tea Movement, for Allegheny County Executive. Ms. Weaver has since withdrawn her candidacy and her name will not appear on the ballot. Her endorsement was the first non-federal PAC endorsement.)

The Dreyfuss Initiative: An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss
April 28, 2011
Wednesday, June 8, 2011 7-9 PM at The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia
A FREE EXCLUSIVE ONE-NIGHT ONLY EVENT FOR LISTENERS OF THE NEW TALK RADIO 1210, WPHT
Academy Award winning actor Richard Dreyfuss is best known for starring in film, television, and theater roles since the late 1960s, including the films American Graffiti, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Goodbye Girl, Stakeout, Always, What About Bob? and Mr. Holland's Opus. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1977 for The Goodbye Girl, and was nominated in 1995 for Mr. Holland's Opus.
Now, Richard Dreyfuss is taking on a new role. The Oscar-winning actor is Founder and President of The Dreyfuss Initiative, which calls for a cross-curricular study of civics in our public schools that incorporates...
- HISTORY - LOGIC - REASON - CRITICAL THINKING
The Dreyfuss Initiative, a nonprofitorganization committed to revitalizing America's civic culture. Richard also serves on the American Bar Association's Education Committee, the Board of the National Constitution Center, and was Senior Research Advisory Member of St. Antony's College, Oxford University.
THIS WILL BE AN ENTERTAINING EVENING FOR PARENTS, FOR STUDENTS, FOR EVERYONE!
Richard will share why he believes that too many of us don't realize the power we hold in a democracy. The solution, he says, is to change the way students learn about civics, the study of the rights and duties of citizenship. Learn why we need a national standard that calls for teaching reason, logic and critical thinking skills before teaching government as a way of providing perspective and context in civics classes.
ARE AMERICAN STUDENTS PREPARED TO INHERIT THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR GREAT NATION?
Richard Dreyfuss joins 1210s Dom Giordano for this unique 2-hour LIVE event and will lay out the critically important issues, and discuss why he believes we must be preparing our nation's next generation to be effective and engaged citizens.
The event is free. Seating is limited. You must register to attend.

RedState Morning Briefing
For May 17, 2011
1. Natural Constituiences
I have thought a lot more about Mike Huckabee's departure from the race on Saturday and then Newt Gingrich's Meet the Press appearance Sunday. They raise a few questions in my mind that I want to explore here. Admittedly, a post like this pulls from my own biases in how I see the candidates, but I'm going to do my best to be as objective as possible, even when dealing with a guy like Huntsman.
I just think it is helpful to explore natural constituencies to see who is fighting over what.
2. The Silver Lining to L'Affair DSK
The abrupt arrest of IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn on charges of sexual assault against an employee at the New York hotel where he was staying are being treated as shocking in France. This is a "coup de tonnerre," a bolt from the blue, not to mention a body blow to the socialist party he was to represent in the upcoming elections. Everyone in Paris claims to be amazed, shaken-and doing some soul searching this Monday morning.
Very few, however, are protesting "DSK"'s innocence. But if the news really came as such a jarring surprise, shouldn't there be a clamour of disbelief? The shameful fact is that this news was not so much a shock as a long time coming.
3. Tell the White House We're Running on Empty
The summer of 2010 was supposed to be the Summer of Recovery. That's what President Obama told us. It wasn't and now nearly a year later, unemployment remains unacceptably high. With gas prices at nearly $4.00 a gallon and on the rise, the forecast for the summer of 2011 isn't looking much better.
America is $14 trillion in debt. We're running trillion dollar deficits which President Obama says are necessary to dig us out of the recession. The problem is Hope Isn't Hiring and the unemployment rate recently ticked back up to 9.0%.
Today, the number of unemployed Americans stands at nearly 14 million. Finding a job in the Obama Economy is tough enough as it is, but with gas at nearly $4.00 a gallon, even getting to the interview has become a challenge.
4. In A Statement That Surprised No One. Now With More Words Than Necessary to Explain it All.
In a statement that surprised absolutely no one, Donald Trump decided not to run for President. Now here are more words than are necessary to explain it all.
Few took it seriously, though I was happy to participate in an interview with him tomorrow that he abruptly canceled Friday.
In any event, I actually do think he took the idea to run seriously. We can all say that we knew he wasn't going to run, but in gearing up for tomorrow's cancelled interview I talked to several people close to him and all of them were convinced Trump was actually taking the prospect of running seriously.
Several things happened over the last week though that I think got him to the conclusion we all knew he'd arrive at quicker than I or probably he thought he'd arrive.
5. Jan Schakowsky (D, IL): SEALs are criminals!
Rep. Schakowsky, attempting to explain why photos of the military operation that killed Osama bin Laden would not be released, had this to say:
"These are pictures of a violent crime scene. This is a dead person. A dead Osama bin Laden," she said.
6. Obama's Oil Drilling Subterfuge
Many liberals in the media are expressing shock over Obama's apparent willingness to increase oil production. We all know that he is full of ..., I mean ethanol, and they do too.
Those of you who were befuddled at the news that Obama will 'expand drilling' in Alaska are not missing anything. Obama has pulled this political chicanery a number of times. Whenever a specific proposal that he so adamantly opposes becomes too popular to ignore, he announces his support for it by promising to implement inconsequential reforms. To that end, he declared during his Saturday radio address that he is "directing the Department of Interior to conduct annual lease sales in Alaska's National Petroleum Reserve, while respecting sensitive areas, and to speed up the evaluation of oil and gas resources in the mid and south Atlantic".
So we are to believe that the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas and ANWR, all of which are impounded from drilling leases by the administration, are more sensitive than Alaska's National Petroleum Reserve? Caribou, baby, Caribou in ANWR; drill, baby, drill in ANPR? Think again.

The Patriot Post | By Mona Charen | Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's plea that Congress would have to pass the 906-page Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in order to "find out what's in it" has become an instant classic in the annals of dysfunctional government. But in the months since the bill's passage, as the Department of Health and Human Services has parceled out waivers, something else has become clear: We may never know what's in it.

Conservative party tricks:
Say: "I guess I'm more of a libertarian than a conservative." Then see how extreme you can go before the liberal screams halt. Start with apparently socially liberal things they might like, "Yeah, I'm absolutely opposed to censorship," and then say, "I think hardcore porn should be available on network television if people want it, don't you?" Or say, "Yeah, I'm for legalizing drugs," and then say, "especially PCP and crack and drugs that target inner city young people, because if anyone needs to go tripping to escape their circumstances, it's them right?" You surely won't get beyond, "Yeah, and I'm for privatizing public schools." Liberals may be for some crazy things-but what liberal would dare to say that all schools should like, you know, compete for soundness; cater to parents rather than teachers unions and educrats; and be free instead of controlled by the state?

Pennsylvanians need to be ready to replace all elected officials in Harrisburg who do not support a fiscally conservative agenda. Big Spenders State senate GOP leaders want to bust the budget By: Lowman S. Henry It is budget time in Harrisburg. The deadline for approving the state's new spending plan is June 30th. With Republicans in control of the governorship and both houses of the legislature there is resolve to get the job done on time - something that never happened during the Ed Rendell years. But Republican unity - at the moment - ends with the calendar. Deep divisions are emerging between the decidedly more moderate senate Republican leadership and the conservative-leaning house GOP. The house has sided with Governor Tom Corbett when it comes to holding the line on spending. You may recall that Pennsylvania faces a $4.5 billion budget deficit and that Governor Corbett has proposed deep spending cuts, especially in education funding, to balance the budget. The governor has said he won't accept any budget that spends more than $27.3 billion, which is the amount the commonwealth expects to have available to spend during the coming fiscal year without raising taxes. Governor Corbett and Senate Majority Leader Domenic Pileggi (R-Delaware) have had a running feud over taxes. During the campaign last year candidate Corbett pledged "no new taxes." Pileggi said it couldn't be done. Now Governor, Corbett has stuck to his pledge and Pileggi is trying every maneuver he can think of to take more money from the pockets of the state's recession ravaged taxpayers. Oddly enough, the most recent point of disagreement is a surplus. Revenues over the past couple of months have come in at $506 million more than projected. The free-spending Pileggi wants to increase next year's spend figure by that amount. Corbett and house Republicans are saying no; the improved revenue flow can't be counted on and it would be fiscally irresponsible to increase spending at this time. This kerfuffle again exposes the degree to which the Senate Republican leadership has yet to get the repeated messages sent by voters that they want the days of profligate spending in Harrisburg to come to an end. Recall it was Senate Republicans who caved into Governor Ed Rendell and provided the votes that passed the bloated budgets that gave us the current massive deficit. House Republicans held firm against the Rendell spending spree only to be sold out by the colleagues in the upper chamber. All this is happening because the GOP leadership in the senate remains a bastion of old-time pork barrel politics. Despite the fact its current leadership came to power in the wake of voter outrage over the middle-of-the-night pay raise - which dispatched their predecessors into retirement - nothing has really changed in the senate. There is growing restlessness among the grassroots over the lack of progress in Harrisburg toward enacting a conservative agenda. Conservatives are looking wistfully at New Jersey, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia and other states where real progress toward reform is being made. Five months into the legislative year next to nothing has been done in Penn's Woods. The bottleneck is the state senate. On issue after issue the senate is frustrating the conservative agenda. It has yet to pass even a watered down version of Senate Bill # 1, the school choice bill. Senate President Pro Tempore Joseph Scarnati (R-Jefferson) is pushing for a tax on Marcellus Shale drillers - a clear violation of the Corbett no tax pledge. There is general apathy in the state senate toward privatizing the state's liquor stores, a top priority of House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny). And House Bill # 1, a common sense lawsuit abuse reform that actually passed the legislature during Ed Rendell's term before being met with a gubernatorial veto, is still sitting in a senate committee. And now, with the budget process entering a critical phase, the senate's GOP leadership once again is sounding more like the Democratic State Committee than a Republican-controlled legislative body. Rather than working with the governor and their colleagues in the house to spend within our means, they are pushing for new taxes and higher spending. If Scarnati and Pileggi want new taxes and more spending then they should put the matter to a floor vote right now - today. No cutting deals in the back rooms. If you want higher spending, then let's see if your caucus members will put up a recorded vote. That way we the people can find out who is on the side of the taxpayers and who is on the side of the spending interests. In the meantime, Governor Corbett and the House GOP are standing firm against raising taxes or increasing the spend number. Voters are watching this intramural dispute very closely. Republicans were given control of state government to put a lid on spending - we will soon see if that promise is actually kept. (Lowman S. Henry is Chairman & CEO of the Lincoln Institute and host of the weekly Lincoln Radio Journal. His email address is lhenry@lincolninstitute.org.)

Mobs Attack Israel's Borders
Thousands of Palestinians tried to breach Israel's borders yesterday in a coordinated attack on the anniversary of the establishment of the modern state of Israel in 1948. The mobs penetrated Israel's borders with Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and in the "West Bank." This was no mere protest. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pointed out that the mobs were challenging "the very existence of Israel."
On the border with Lebanon, the jihadist group Hezbollah was seen organizing the confrontation. Syria's government, which has murdered hundreds of its own citizens in recent weeks, clearly was helping facilitate the extremists who massed on its border with Israel. On the Gaza/Israeli border, the thugs of Hamas were calling the shots. And terrorism experts said that behind it all was the "hidden hand" of Iran's Holocaust-denier Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria, Iran -- these are groups and countries dedicated to destroying Israel. They want to overwhelm the Jewish state with millions of Palestinians who would demographically "drown" the Israeli people in their own nation. All this is happening as Obama plans to deliver yet another speech reaching out to the "Muslim world," and as Prime Minister Netanyahu prepares to come to the U.S. to address a joint session of Congress.
There is a great deal of suffering in the Middle East, but the source is not Israel. The Palestinian mobs would be better off if they would overthrow their own leaders in Fatah, Hamas and Hezbollah, who have failed to provide even the basic services a normal government would be expected to provide. Instead of jobs, education, food and housing, the Palestinian political establishment produces only hatred and a culture that worships death.
Little Hope For Change
In his weekly radio address, President Obama conceded the need for more domestic energy exploration, and the media was quick to hype his comments as major progress. Obama announced that his administration would try to speed up environmental reviews in Alaska while extending leases in the Gulf of Mexico that have been "on hold" since last year's BP spill.
It is a small concession to conservative arguments for Obama to say that America needs to develop more of its own energy resources. That Obama made this announcement at all is an indication that high gas prices are hurting him politically, and that Obama is scrambling for political cover.
It remains to be seen how Obama's anti-energy bureaucrats will put these new plans into practice. Remember, we have an energy secretary who once stated his desire for $8.00-a-gallon gas, and an interior secretary who once filibustered attempts to allow more drilling even if gas prices skyrocketed to $10-a-gallon.
We've been down this road before. In 2010, Obama made headlines by announcing plans to allow expanded offshore drilling. But after the BP spill, Obama virtually shut everything down. It was one step forward and two steps back.
I'm skeptical. Given the president's rhetoric against oil companies, the constant efforts by his Capitol Hill allies to impose punitive taxes on energy companies and the efforts by the radical environmental movement to demonize and harass "Big Oil," I have little hope that significant change is coming soon.
Government Is Not The Solution
During the debate over Obama's stimulus plan, the president and his supporters repeatedly reassured us that spending nearly $1 trillion would "save or create" hundreds of thousands of jobs and prevent the unemployment rate from exceeding 8%. During last year's "Summer of Recovery" tour, Vice President Joe Biden often bragged about those "saved and/or created" jobs. We know the unemployment rate shot up to 10%, and is currently 9%. But it was very difficult to quantify those "saved or created" jobs. Now we know.
Kudos to economists Timothy Conley of the University of Western Ontario and Bill Dupor of Ohio State University. Last week Professors Conley and Dupor released the results of a study on the economic impact of Obama's stimulus spending. Here is the central finding of their 36-page analysis: "Our benchmark results suggest that the ARRA created/saved approximately 450 thousand state and local government jobs and destroyed/forestalled roughly one million private sector jobs."
Once again, I am reminded of Ronald Reagan's maxim: Government is not the solution!
Big Government Is The Problem
At a town hall event in Washington, D.C., last week, President Obama issued a decree to American business: It's time to "step up" and begin hiring new workers. But when Boeing tried to create a thousand new jobs in South Carolina, Obama's National Labor Relations Board sued.
This outrageous example of the government attempting to pick winners and losers is the subject of my Human Events column this week. If this decision is not quickly reversed, it will likely result in companies hiring more workers overseas.
2012 Update
A lot of social issue conservatives were disappointed Saturday night when former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee announced he would not run for president. His decision could have a major impact on the race.
It was widely assumed that if he ran, he would have locked up Iowa. He had a great campaign organization there, having won the caucuses in 2008. National polls have consistently shown Huckabee at or near the top of the list for Republican primary voters.
With Huckabee out, Mitt Romney's status as the presumptive "front-runner" is solidified. But without Huckabee in the race, there is an opportunity for former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Rep. Michele Bachmann and maybe Herman Cain or others to win Iowa and breakout of the pack. Even a surprising second place finish by an underdog candidate can be a ticket to New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Also this weekend, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich raised eyebrows when he denounced a key element of Rep. Paul Ryan's budget as "radical change" and "right-wing social engineering," comments that seem destined to wind up in an Obama campaign ad. Rep. Ryan reacted this morning saying, "With allies like that, who needs the left?"
For many conservatives, Gingrich added insult to injury by appearing to endorse the central component of ObamaCare, the individual mandate. These views led one National Review writer to note, "Newt Gingrich's appearance on Meet the Press today could leave some wondering which party's nomination he is running for."
And there is breaking news this afternoon that Donald Trump has decided not to run, citing his passion for business and unwillingness to "leave the private sector."
The events of the past 48 hours demonstrate how very unpredictable and wide open the 2012 GOP primary campaign is. Anyone who can capture the Reagan magic, by presenting a bold and positive vision that unites economic, social and national defense conservatives, can win this race. Perhaps even someone who is not yet running.
With all the uncertainty in the Republican field, we should be encouraged by the results of a Gallup poll today finding Obama's approval rating among adults (which skews to the left) at 46%, with 44% disapproving. The findings are within the poll's three-point margin of error. The country is narrowly divided, and independent swing voters are up for grabs.

IDF Battles Hundreds of Syrian Arabs in Golan; One Dead
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
At least one person was killed and dozens were wounded as IDF soldiers try to beat back nearly 1,000 Syrian Arabs who called themselves "Palestinians" and invaded the Golan Heights Sunday during Nakba Day protests. Syrian troops at the border did not prevent the infiltration.
Analysts had predicted the possibility, suggesting that Damascus would allow the crossings to draw the populace's attention and participation away from the ongoing rebellion in the country and the regime's harsh crackdown on civilian protestors.

Catherine Austin Fitts: November 30, 2010
Former Assistant Secretary of Housing under George H.W. Bush Catherine Austin Fitts blows the whistle on how the financial terrorists have deliberately imploded the US economy and transferred gargantuan amounts of wealth offshore as a means of sacrificing the American middle class. Fitts documents how trillions of dollars went missing from government coffers in the 90?s and how she was personally targeted for exposing the fraud.
Fitts explains how every dollar of debt issued to service every war, building project, and government program since the American Revolution up to around 2 years ago - around $12 trillion - has been doubled again in just the last 18 months alone with the bank bailouts. "We're literally witnessing the leveraged buyout of a country and that's why I call it a financial coup d'état, and that's what the bailout is for," states Fitts.
Massive amounts of financial capital have been sucked out the...

Naqba Day fizzles
All things considered today was a defeat for the Palestinians. Israel prevented infiltration with a minimum of firepower.. It is imperative to let the Palestinians know that Israel will defend its borders. Just imagine if the Palestinians were able to created a million man march on our borders. The first defeat for them is that they didn't succeed in creating a serious challenge and the second defeat is that we easily contained what they did manage to do. Israel should be placing landmines along their border and the fence. The facts are not yet clear. Waiting for the IDF to report.Ted Belman

Is Syria's repressive dictatorship really so crucial to Mideast peace and stability that we can't let it fail? The Obama administration still seems to think so. BY AARON DAVID MILLER, FOREIGN POLICY
If you're a bit confused about U.S. President Barack Obama's passivity in the face of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's brutal repression of domestic opposition, don't be. Syria isn't Libya. The Assad regime is just too consequential to risk undermining.
Although the fall of the House of Assad might actually benefit U.S. interests, the president isn't going to encourage it. For realists in the White House, Assad's demise carries more risks than opportunities.
Great powers behave inconsistently - even hypocritically - depending on their interests. That's not unusual; it's part of the job description. In fact, in responding to the forces of change and repression loosed throughout the Arab world, flexibility is...

In Lebanon, 500 buses will shuttle Palestinians from refugee camps to border in order to protest on day of mourning marking Israel's founding. But in Israel, Arabs say 'Nakba bill' prevents them from joining protests
Ynet reporters
Israel's neighbors prepared to usher in 'Nakba Day' with mass marches along the border with Israel Sunday. Meanwhile, in Israel, police prepared to deploy backup forces throughout the country with officers trained in riot-prevention.
Many residents of Arab countries in which anti-government protests abound have used social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to call for a third intifada on May 15, the Palestinian day of mourning over the establishment of Israel.
In Lebanon, 500 buses have been enlisted to shuttle Palestinians from refugee camps throughout the country to its southern border with the Jewish state. Al-Akhbar reported that protest organizers had increased their order by 200 buses due to the abundance...

Israel Invaded
Posted by Robert Spencer on May 16th, 2011
Robert Spencer is a scholar of Islamic history, theology, and law and the director of Jihad Watch. He is the author of ten books, eleven monographs, and hundreds of articles about jihad and Islamic terrorism, including the New York Times Bestsellers The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) and The Truth About Muhammad. His latest book is The Complete Infidel's Guide to the Koran (Regnery), and he is coauthor (with Pamela Geller) of The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration's War on America (Simon and Schuster).

Israel was invaded Sunday.
This time, however, the invaders weren't armed forces. Nonetheless, they did not come in peace, and their attempt to enter Israel was no less an act of war than the invasions of 1967 and 1973, and the rockets that jihadists regularly shoot into Israel from Gaza.
Thousands of Palestinian Arabs tried to enter the country from Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and Judea and Samaria. Their declared intention - announced weeks ago on Facebook - was to return to the lands from which they had been expelled in 1948. The Facebook page made clear the sinister intentions of Sunday's action: it was entitled "Third Palestinian Intifada," and after it posted numerous calls for violence against Israel, Facebook took it down - after it had gained 350,000 members.

Myth-Busting the Debt Limit
The United States today hit an all-time high debt, passing $14 trillion, according to Associated Press reports. And with $45,300 of debt for every man, woman and child in the United States, it's clear as day that spending is the problem. Yet Washington has yet to come to an agreement on a way forward, either in the short term or the long term, though the budget plan passed by the House of Representatives would fundamentally alter this debt-ridden path the nation is on.

Treasury to tap pensions to help fund government
By Zachary A. Goldfarb, Published: May 15, 2011
The Obama administration will begin to tap federal retiree programs to help fund operations after the government lost its ability Monday to borrow more money from the public, adding urgency to efforts in Washington to fashion a compromise over the debt.
Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner has warned for months that the government would soon hit the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling - a legal limit on how much it can borrow. With that limit reached Monday, Geithner is undertaking special measures in an effort to postpone the day when he will no longer have enough funds to pay all of the government's bills.
Geithner, who has already suspended a program that helps state and local government manage their finances, will begin to borrow from retirement funds for federal workers. The measure won't have an impact on retirees because the Treasury is legally required to reimburse the program.

From the Desk of: David Martin, Executive Vice President Media Research Center
May 16, 2011
Thursday evening, CNN's top foreign affairs reporter, Fareed Zakaria, casually admitted to disgraced politician-turned CNN host, Eliot Spitzer, that he has been advising President Obama on foreign policy.
Zakaria cannot possibly be expected to offer fair and balanced coverage on a U.S. foreign policy that he helps to shape behind closed doors.
Eliot "Client #9" Spitzer gushed to Zakaria that it "brought a smile to my face," and "makes my heart warm" to learn President Obama "calls you for wisdom and advice about issues around the world."
Zakaria, author of one of the President's favorite books, The Post American World, added during his interview with Spitzer that his conversations with the President have been "very thoughtful" and that he was eager to "see where it goes."
Zakaria has crossed the line from biased liberal reporter to mouthpiece for this Administration by simultaneously giving the president foreign policy advice and going on-air and praising Obama's policies.
As soon as this was reported by the Media Research Center, a firestorm of protest was ignited, prompting Zakaria to nonchalantly backpedal on his earlier statements saying, that he's only "had a couple of conversations with the President, off-the-record." Does it matter? Off the record or on the record, what doesn't Zakaria understand about conflict of interest?

Political Futures

Obama thinks immigration policy is a laughing matter
"[O]bama's most recent invitation to civil discourse -- on immigration -- came just 11 minutes after he accused opponents of moving the goal posts on border enforcement. 'Maybe they'll need a moat,' he said sarcastically. 'Maybe they want alligators in the moat.' Nice touch. Looks like the Tucson truce -- no demonization, no cross-hairs metaphors -- is officially over. After all, the Republicans want to kill off the elderly, throw the disabled in the snow and watch alligators lunch on illegal immigrants. The El Paso speech is notable not for breaking any new ground on immigration, but for perfectly illustrating Obama's political style: the professorial, almost therapeutic, invitation to civil discourse, wrapped around the basest of rhetorical devices -- charges of malice compounded with accusations of bad faith. 'They'll never be satisfied,' said Obama about border control. 'And I understand that. That's politics.' ... There is zero chance of any immigration legislation passing Congress in the next two years. El Paso was simply an attempt to gin up the Hispanic vote as part of an openly political two-city, three-event campaign swing in preparation for 2012. ... [F]or Obama, immigration reform is not about legislation, it's about re-election. If I may quote the president: I understand that. That's politics." --columnist Charles Krauthammer
Government
"[T]he federal government expects to collect $2.2 trillion in revenue this year. The problem is that it wants to spend $3.8 trillion. You can do a lot with $2.2 trillion. You can fund Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, debt service, unemployment, welfare, and national defense at their 2008 levels. My recollection of 2008 is that it was not exactly a time of Spartan fiscal discipline. Funding the majority of the federal government at 2008 levels is not 'default.' It's not anything like default. It's not in the same category of things, events, or concepts as default. ... We like to think that the American people are on our side when it comes to the size and scope of government, but they aren't. Reforming entitlements is still going to be hard. Even reforming stupid spending is going to be hard: We all had a good laugh at Harry Reid's federally subsidized cowboy poetry festival, but there are a million morsels of pork just like it, not to mention big non-pork spending that has to be addressed, too. And now, with a weak economy and a gloomy near-term outlook, conservatives are stuck doing the job we really should have done back in 1994-2000. But it's not going to get any easier. But on the debt ceiling? Let them sweat." --columnist Kevin D. Williamson
Liberty
"One of the shameful hallmarks of a dictatorship is the restriction of movement -- telling citizens or groups they cannot travel or relocate freely. We are now witnessing a shocking example of that dictatorial practice at the hands of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), which is insisting that a major U.S. employer may not move some of its operations from one state to another because to do so might somehow violate workers' rights. The case in point involves famed aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, which is building a second assembly line for its new 787 jetliners in South Carolina. That's a no-no, says the NLRB. ... The NLRB has filed a complaint against Boeing, a firm headquartered in Chicago, for daring to choose where they may locate one of their plants. In this case, Boeing is being told it cannot make the move on the specious grounds that the move constitutes an unfair labor practice. The unfair labor practice? South Carolina has a state right-to-work law, which ensures employees the right to either join a union or not to join a union as they see fit. Imagine that, a law that allows a worker to choose whether or not to join a union! ... When a federal agency takes it into its grubby hands to dictate where a firm may locate some of its facilities America stands at the dividing line between freedom and tyranny." --columnist Michael Reagan
Opinion in Brief
"[T]he Obama administration is gutsily punishing right-to-work states -- even states that merely require secret ballots in order to obviate coercion by union thugs. What are Americans supposed to do to earn money? Obama doesn't care: Ordinary Americans are irrelevant to the Democrats' electoral ambitions -- they exist only to justify the hiring of more government workers. The Democrats have now officially abandoned working-class Americans. Obama is doing what's in his and his party's self-interest, rather than concerning himself with the mass of American citizens. He is using his executive authority to reward gays, illegal aliens, do-nothing government employees, far-left union bosses, abortion industry executives and global warming kooks. Are you on that list of Obama's friends? Democrats blithely act as if big labor, pro-illegal-immigration, pro-government union policies combined with massive government red tape and huge socialist programs will have no effect on jobs. They incessantly repeat 'gutsy call' for 'you'd have to have been brain-dead not to make the call to kill bin Laden,' hoping the Democratic Party will suddenly seem macho. Then, after a few weeks of robotically chanting 'gutsy call,' they can get back to their true passion -- destroying jobs -- at which point they will robotically chant Bush's name to explain why millions of Americans have lost their jobs under Obama. How gutsy." --columnist Ann Coulter
The Gipper
"Without timely expression and emphatic endorsement, our own belief in the principles of human freedom and representative government must eventually atrophy and wither." --
Ronald Reagan
Re: The Left
"For a week people have been asking, 'Why won't the president release Osama bin Laden's photo?' That's the wrong question. We should be asking, 'Why was Barack Obama in such a hurry to tell us bin Laden was dead?' The White House says the information in bin Laden's compound is the equivalent of a 'small college library,' potentially containing incalculably valuable and unique data on al-Qaeda operations, personnel and methods. ... I'm no expert on such matters -- though I've talked to several about this -- but even a casual World War II buff can understand that the shelf life of actionable intelligence would be extended if we hadn't told the whole world, and al-Qaeda in particular, that we had it. It's a bit like racing to the microphones to announce you've stolen the other team's playbook even before you've had a chance to use the information in the big game. But that's exactly what President Obama did. ... [I]t seems that the White House planned to crow as soon as possible. Why? Nobody I've talked to can think of a reason that doesn't have to do with politics or hubris." --columnist
Jonah Goldberg
The Last Word
"So far as morality is concerned, I happen to think it was dumb, perhaps even evil, to have given bin Laden such a nice send-off. I feel it sent the wrong message. I know President Obama and others believe it showed the world how fine we are. I think it showed the world that we are so cowardly that we will even show respect to pure evil. If it had been up to me, I would have wrapped bin Laden's sorry carcass in pigskin, which perhaps explains why I don't hold elective office. But certainly there had to have been an alternative to washing his body, wrapping it in a white sheet and saying a few respectful words over it in Arabic, before dumping him overboard. Frankly, I think attempting to show respect to someone whose brains you've just recently splattered on a wall is, to put it mildly, an empty gesture. But I think it's a perfect example of how misguided our war on terrorism has been. For the past decade, we have been walking on eggs where Muslims are concerned. Both Bush and Obama have displayed the attitude of a supplicant, speaking and acting like men who are far more concerned with public relations than with reality. Whether the topic is Gitmo, some nutty minister in Florida with a book of matches or the proper way to dispose of a monster's corpse, our pundits and presidents worry incessantly about how it's perceived in the Arab/Muslim world." --columnist Burt Prelutsky

Gingrich Blasts House GOP's Medicare Plan

|
White House hopeful Newt Gingrich called the House Republican plan for Medicare "right-wing social engineering," injecting a discordant GOP voice into the party's efforts to reshape both entitlements and the broader budget debate.
In the same interview Sunday, on NBC's "Meet the Press," Mr. Gingrich backed a requirement that all Americans buy health insurance, complicating a Republican line of attack on President Barack Obama's health law.
The former House speaker's decision to stick with his previous support for an individual mandate comes days after former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney defended the health revamp he championed as governor, which includes a mandate.
The moves suggest the Republican primary contest, which will include both men, could feature a robust debate on health care, with GOP candidates challenging the Democratic law while defending their own variations. [WSJ Online, May 16]

His Heart Says 'No': Huckabee Not Running for President in 2012

|
"All the factors say go, but my heart says no," Huckabee, who was considered the GOP frontrunner in several national polls, said on his Fox News Channel show. "The past few months have been times of deep personal reflection . . . even though I wasn't actively establishing a campaign organization or seeking financial support to run again, polls have consistently put me at or near the top to be the Republican nominee." "But I know that under the best of circumstances, being President is a job that takes one to the limit of his or her human capacity," he continued. "I can't know or predict the future, but I know for now my answer is clear and firm: I will not seek the Republican nomination for President this year." "I had not done much toward a race because my life was filled with work that I truly love here at Fox News, doing radio commentaries on my daily Huckabee Report on 600 radio stations, traveling the country for speaking engagements, and helping good conservative, pro-life candidates who were running for office," he said.

Paul is second Tea Party senator to miss coveted committee slot

|
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a favorite son of the Tea Party, wanted a seat on the Senate Budget Committee, but was passed over in favor of a more junior colleague. The decision was made by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who instead picked Sen. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), the only member of the Senate Republican conference with less seniority than Paul. (Paul and Ayotte entered the Senate the same day, but Paul has more seniority by draw.) A Senate GOP aide familiar with Paul's ambitions said Paul asked for the Budget seat that was to become vacant after Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) announced his resignation last month. Paul has introduced the only budget plan in Congress that would balance the budget in five years, the span set forth by the Senate GOP's proposed balanced budget amendment. Paul is the second prominent Tea Party-affiliated senator to lose out on one of the plum assignments held by Ensign. [The Hill, May 14]

Treasury to Tap Pensions to Help Fund Government
The Obama administration will begin to tap federal retiree programs to help fund operations after the government loses its ability Monday to borrow more money from the public, adding urgency to efforts in Washington to fashion a compromise over the debt.

Ryan's proposal, which was passed by the GOP-controlled House in April, would have people 54 and younger choose from a list of coverage options and have Medicare make "premium-support payments" to the plan they chose.

GE's 'green' engine offers new chance with military
GE wants more money to develope Air Force engines
For months, General Electric has fought an uphill battle to keep funds flowing for development of a next-generation F-35 fighter engine, a program the White House, Pentagon, and many in Congress oppose as wasteful - but one which would support hundreds of jobs at GE Aviation's plants in Lynn and elsewhere.
Attracting less attention has been GE's work on new "green'' engine technology for the Air Force that, analysts and specialists say, could greatly improve the company's ability to compete for engine contracts. The technology is intended to make aircraft engines far more fuel-efficient, saving money for the Pentagon while potentially reestablishing GE's long-term role in jet engine contracting, and the jobs that come with it.

Economists: Lower growth, higher oil prices coming
Low growth, higher prices
Economists are dialing back their expectations for U.S. economic growth this year.
A survey from the National Association for Business Economics predicts GDP will grow 2.8 percent this year _ down from the group's February prediction that it would grow 3.3 percent. Their outlook for consumer spending and the housing market also weakened, in part because they expect oil prices to remain above $100 a barrel through 2012.

With gas costs high, Obama to speed oil production
Oh now it's time to drill
Amid growing public unhappiness over gas prices, President Barack Obama is directing his administration to ramp up U.S. oil production by extending existing leases in the Gulf of Mexico and off Alaska's coast and holding more frequent lease sales in a federal petroleum reserve in Alaska. But the moves won't calm spiraling prices at the pump any time soon.
Obama said Saturday that the measures "make good sense" and will help reduce U.S. consumption of imported oil in the long term. But he acknowledged anew that they won't help to immediately bring down gasoline prices topping $4 a gallon in many parts of the country, and an oil industry analyst agreed.

HHS approves 200 more new healthcare waivers
If Obamacare is so great, why do companies get waivers?
The Obama administration approved 204 new waivers to Democrats' healthcare reform law over the past month, bringing the total to 1,372.
The waivers are temporary and only apply to one provision of the law, which requires health plans to offer at least $750,000 worth of annual medical benefits before leaving patients to fend for themselves. Still, Republicans have assailed the waivers as a sign of both favoritism and of major problems with the law.

EPA's Economic Train Wreck
During a recent speech to a small business advocacy group in Ohio, President Obama described his commitment to "knocking down barriers that stand in the way of your growth." Unfortunately, his EPA is instead building huge barriers to economic growth. Rep. Bob Gibbs of Ohio commented 1, "As the U.S. economy struggles to get back on track, now is not the time to allow the EPA to impose what could prove to be the most costly, burdensome, and expansive set of job-destroying regulations ever crafted. Instead, we must block the EPA's runaway regulations to save countless jobs and protect our economy from the tens of billions of dollars this backdoor cap-and-trade energy tax would cost."
At a minimum, the 10 new major EPA rules that the EPA issued in 2010 could cost the economy at least $23 billion 2 and mean nearly one million lost jobs 3 for Americans. For the mining and electric power industries, the new rules will shut down 22 percent of existing U.S. coal-fired power plants 4, with about 75 gigawatts lost 5 - enough electricity to power 56.3 million homes. |

|

If this occurs and supply and demand kicks in, the cost of electric power sky-rockets. When so many are trying to restart the economy, it makes no sense for the EPA to work overtime to kill jobs, raise the cost of electricity to residential and business consumers, and cause an economic "Train Wreck."

New Proposal To Revitalize U.S. Critical Minerals Supply Chain
U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has released a discussion draft of legislation designed to revitalize the nation's critical minerals supply chain. "Minerals are the building blocks of our economy," said Murkowski, ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. "From rare earth elements to molybdenum, we rely on minerals for everything from the smallest computer chips to the tallest skyscrapers. This draft bill provides clear, programmatic direction to keep us competitive with foreign nations and promote a stable supply of critical minerals." The draft legislation directs the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to establish a list of minerals critical to the U.S. economy and sets out a comprehensive set of policies to ensure the nation is able to meet its own mineral needs.

Coal To Gasoline - New Legislation Aimed to Ease Pain at the Pump
This week U.S. Senators John Barrasso (R-WY) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) introduced The American Alternative Fuels Act (S. 937), a bipartisan effort to drive down the cost of gasoline - estimated to be an extra $800 that Americans are expected to pay at the pump this year - and decrease U.S. dependence on foreign oil. Senators Roy Blunt (R-MO), Dan Coats (R-IN), Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) are original cosponsors of the American Alternative Fuels Act.
"It's more important than ever that we make it as easy as possible to use all available sources of American energy," said Barrasso. "Our unacceptably high gas prices are hurting not only West Virginians, but all Americans, and they underscore a critical need: the federal government needs to be a partner, not an obstacle, for businesses that can transform our domestic energy resources into gas," said Manchin.

U.S. Coal Mining Companies Have Reclaimed Nearly 2.4 Million Acres of Land
U.S. coal mining companies have successfully reclaimed 2,376,805 acres (nearly double the size of Rhode Island) of formerly mined lands from 1978 through FY 2009, according to government statistics updated this week. The data include projects that have successfully completed approved plans for restoring mined land to a beneficial use. According to National Mining Association (NMA) President and CEO Hal Quinn, "Mine land reclamation is a tremendous success story for U.S. coal mining and the federal and state regulatory agencies that oversee these projects."

EPA Ignores 170 Members of Congress
Congressman Bob Gibbs has taken a leadership role in responding to the Obama Administration's release of a so-called "guidance document" which effectively circumvents the proper regulatory process to increase the extent of waters subject to the Clean Water Act.
"Last week, I led a bipartisan group of 170 Members of Congress and wrote to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers. We expressed deep concerns about the agencies attempts to circumvent the proper regulatory process in order to push through a dramatic expansion of federal jurisdiction under the Clean Water Act. But after our letter exposed the Obama Administration's attempt to sidestep transparency, I am extremely disappointed to learn that almost half of the House of the Representatives' request that they reconsider this so-called 'guidance document' was totally ignored," said Gibbs.

Rare Earth Prices Reaching Rarefied Heights
According to The New York Times, world prices for rare earth metals and minerals have doubled in the last four months, and this year's increases come atop price gains of as much as fourfold during 2010. Rare earth metallic elements are needed for many of the most sophisticated civilian and military technologies, whether smartphones or smart bombs. The reason is basic economics: demand continues to outstrip efforts to expand supplies and break China's choke-hold on the market.

EPA Proposal Would Hurt Southwest Virginia Economy
According to Melanie Salyer of TriCities.com, recently wrote, "Our economy in Southwest Virginia is very dependent upon coal. Yet the EPA has embarked on regulatory changes that will cripple the coal industry in this country. Jobs will be lost and electricity prices will sky rocket. Coal provided over 37% of Virginia's electric power generation in 2009. 8,500 Virginians were directly employed by a coal industry in 2008. Many of these are in Southwest Virginia. Direct and indirect employment from the coal industry accounted for more than 31,600 jobs in Virginia in 2008 with a payroll valued at $1.43 billion. All of this would change if the EPA implements its anti-coal regulatory agenda.

All Stakeholders Must be Engaged for Maximum Mine Safety
Arch Coal's Vice President of Safety Tony Bumbico, told a House panel that a multi-year effort by the National Mining Association (NMA) to examine the safety practices of companies and industries from around the world has identified certain common elements necessary to further modernize health and safety in U.S. "Successful safety processes all have certain common elements," said Bumbico,They are integrated into an effective management system that is supported by senior management, they involve employees in the safety process, and they are reinforced by the organization's culture and, in return, support the culture." Bumbico continued, "While compliance with the law is necessary and important, there are more effective ways to improve safety performance.".

Wyoming Project Will Help CO2 Storage Research
According to the Associated Press, the drilling of a single 14,000-foot deep well in southwest Wyoming will go a long way toward proving whether the area and others like it across the U.S. can permanently store vast amounts of greenhouse gases underground. The Carbon Management Institute at the University of Wyoming and the U.S. Department of Energy' are behind a nearly $17 million project to figure out how to pump and store large amounts of carbon dioxide underground. Preliminary data suggest Wyoming's Rock Springs Uplift, a geologic area where the well is being drilled, could store up to 26 billion tons of CO2.

Clean Coal Plant Mixes-in Algae to Produce Gasoline
According to the Pittsburg Tribune-Review, Accelergy Corp. will build the facility over two years at a total cost of about $5.5 million at the University of Pittsburgh Applied Research Center. Officials said that when the plant is fully functioning, it will gasify algae mixed with coal or coal waste into gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. They said carbon dioxide created in the process will be recycled and algae used in the process will produce additional fuels and fertilizer.

Energy Powers Robust Wyoming Recovery
The Wyoming Star-Tribune reports, "After a short but severe recession, Wyoming's economy has turned around since the beginning of 2010, thanks to the robust rebound of the energy industries," the Wyoming Economic Analysis Division reported in an economic summary issued last week. For example, taxable sales in Wyoming rebounded in the last quarter of 2010 to $4 billion, driven primarily by spending by the mining, oil and gas industries. The industry contributed to two-thirds of the 15 percent bump in sales from the same period in 2009.

Big Spenders in Harrisburg - GOP senators !!!!!!!
Pennsylvanians need to be ready to replace all elected officials in Harrisburg who do not support a fiscally conservative agenda.
Big Spenders
State senate GOP leaders want to bust the budget
By: Lowman S. Henry
It is budget time in Harrisburg.

"Fair housing" redistribution also hitting Delaware
Theresa Garcia and I have corresponded by email for over two years, but have never met. She founded the Delaware 912 Patriots, an enormous group similar to our Tea Parties. and which covers the entire state of Delaware. She's in real estate and just sent this to me. I think you and others in real estate, as well as home owners, should see what she reports. Some of her members have sent their comments, which she appended to her email. It sounds like nasty stuff.
I'm copying Tea Party leaders in this region. The news media will either ignore or downplay it, so the general public will remain unaware until it's a fait accompli. I sense that HUD wants to get this done quickly.

Impediments to Fair Housing In Delaware
**************************************************** |
Dear Fellow Patriots,
I went to a meeting last week - Public Hearing: 2011 Draft Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice, and I witnessed a redistribution plan in its beginning stages. What got me the most was their discussion on what to tell the people about the group homes they want to put into single family neighborhoods. "We don't have to mention they are substance abusers, just that they are covered under the disability act". They want Affordable Housing housing as part of any new development and/or put next to higher income neighborhoods. Question came from that, what if the locals do not want that type of housing? "We don't advertise as affordable housing and no one will know any different". Really!
Below are my notes from the meeting.
Theresa Garcia, Realtor
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ones that were basically in charge were from Pittsburg PA. Everyone else was so afraid of being racist that they were cow towing to them. Except for Anne Marie Townsend who was very concerned about the cost to the City of Dover. There were some in there who believed that there is discrimination and we NEED to fix it. Others, such as myself, feel that they are creating a problem to fix it. I got the feeling that the ones in charge did not truly understand Delaware. I'm also tired of being labeled a racist because I want to keep property values up and don't want group homes for substance abusers next to homes with small children.
Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice
They based their analysis on a map of all 3 counties that showed where the majority (they started with minorities and ended up narrowing it down to the black community) were mostly located. They said that their goal was to move the people around so that the "black community" could have the same opportunities as everyone else. (Isn't this discrimation as there are many others that are in this situation also?) This includes putting affordable housing in every new construction development. It also includes group homes for substance abusers, which they feel should be in single family neighborhoods. When they started talking about the LEP (limited English proficiency) people, I almost lost it! "They deserve affordable housing opportunities, programs and services. We need to bend over backwards to make it happen".
Of course, by that point I knew exactly what they were doing.
During the question period, I raised my hand and asked the following questions.
1. I don't see a big problem with affordable housing in this area if people have good credit as there are several programs out to help them. One is 100% financing with 0 down pmt and no MI (The program is the Rural Housing program and you have to buy outside city limits where they are trying to redistribute to. They ignored that fact as they have to create a problem to solve a problem.) I was blown off and no response was given.
2. Is the LEP segment they referred to legal citizens or illegal aliens? You could have heard a pin drop and then all hell broke loose. Marjorie "It doesn't matter". Me "yes it does, my tax dollars are paying for this program and I would prefer that only legal citizens take advantage of this". Marjorie "it's a federal issue", Me "it's a state issue as my tax dollars are paying for this".
3. As a mother and grandmother, I do not want a substance abuse home in my neighborhood. As a Realtor, it will depreciate property values. (Maybe I shouldn't have said that but oh well). Marjorie, "They are covered under the disability program and so have the right to be in your neighborhood". (I had thought it was a zoning issue and not a FH issue). So then someone from Delaware Association of Realtors, I forget his name, said, "I can see that other people besides landlords need fair housing training". Me, "Sir, are referring to my comment about illegal immigration or group homes". I think he mumbled group homes.
So their goal is to spread the "poor" into better neighborhoods to give them better opportunities. Several mentioned that we have a lot of rural areas below the canal and that there is limited infrastructure outside the cities to get people to work and shopping. One of the guys from Sussex said that he has a really nice Section 8 housing development in Shelbyville that he has a hard time filling due to lack of infrastructure. Margorie actually had the nerve to say, "Everyone can at least afford a car." The girl next to me looked at me and said what??
Anne Marie Townsend, Dir of Planning and Zoning in Dover, said that people would object to group homes with substance abuse and then a discussion went on about telling people it was for persons with disabilities, which substance abuse is a part of. So basically lie to the neighbors. (What about sex offenders?)
They are also very concerned about SB 400 and the fact that it may limit fair housing choice. (I haven't had a chance to check that out).
My thoughts are this. They are trying to redistribute people as they are trying to redistribute wealth. They are trying to create problems and trying to make everything equal (socialism).
How is this going to affect us?
1. Financially - yes, we will be getting grants with the strings attached. Everyone was acting like it was free money, but we have to pay for this.
2. They will waive impact fees for affordable housing communities. We will pay for that.
3. Depreciate our home values even more.
4. Add to the credit crisis - When they issue low income loans, they need to be sure that the buyers are credit worthy or it will add to the housing crisis.
To sum it up, this is big government stepping in and again, trying to create a crisis to "fix" it. My experience is that myself as well as all the Realtors I know, do not have discrimation issues. We have credit issues. If you can't afford it, you can't buy it.
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this. tgarcia123@aol.com

Responses I've received so far:
Theresa,
That is what happened to Brookside and that whole area. I grew up in that large development and it was middle class, with DuPonters and people who worked at the U of D. When Section 8 housing is identified in an area (first it was the apts.), people leave, who care about their homes, and house values go down.
My parents moved out, after I graduated. And my old home now looks like a dump with a big chain fence all around it (gee, I wonder why). And then the schools go down with it. WHY? Because those who get that housing have no respect for it, because it isn't theirs and they got it for doing nothing. T
hey send their kids to school to get them out of the house and never have a phone number where someone can reach them when their kids don't behave (but sure have great cell phones to yack to their friends--and now they can get them for FREE!!).
The gov't doesn't care; they just want to smear it all up and take from those who have and give it to those who don't. I was watching Robin Hood last night (the one with Russell Crowe). I found it interesting how, even back almost 1000 years ago, the King felt it was okay to take more from the rich and those who had something, to waste it on crap! And the rich knew it! When I was watching King John in the movie, I thought of Obama. It was a very different version of Robin Hood than I had seen before and was interesting in light of our current economic situation.
I know that if people move into a neighborhood and don't take pride in their home, everyone suffers--we have basically a "boarding house" in our cul-de-sac, and their cars are all over the street, leaving no room to safely drive in and out and no room for anyone else who needs street space to park their car.
I love my home, but I am so frustrated with the situation, that I just want to sell our home and move elsewhere. The County has been called about this house many times, but they are still there--cats running all over the place, suspected drug deals going down (strange cars showing up and then leaving 5 minutes later, only while the porch light is on, all hours of night)--and the home is a mess, compared to those within that cul-de-sac.
There are two homes which have been up for sale for YEARS! That's why I don't think we could sell our home. As long as those people continue live there and the gov't allows it, it would just sit on the market.

Theresa:
We already have a problem in downtown Dover. Myself, as well as several neighbors have invested a lot in our community and we are seeing it going down.
There are people walking through here cursing and saying F this and F that w/little children in their arms, throwing trash in the ground, beer cans and whatever on our yard. I am not for any more low income housing scattered throughout the nicer areas of the city....what ever happened to if you could afford to buy you bought!
I am tired of supporting people who have never worked, get food and free health insurance and the rest of us pay for it. Welfare should be for the sick and elderly...period. I work 7 days a week and 13-15 hours a day.
I have two grandchildren being raised by a single Mom w/no support in three years and she is barely making it...but does she ask for help, NO, she has too much pride.
Anyone who is on public assistance should have to take drug tests before they get their check every month...you have to take one to get a job, why shouldn't they.
I am not a racist; I just think everyone should do what is right. If we can't afford to buy something, we don't buy it. Our property values are going down so drastically now because of people who should never have bought a home.

Are You Ready to Pay $50 for a 100-Watt Bulb?
The Blaze | by Scott Baker | Posted on May 17, 2011
NEW YORK (AP) - Two leading makers of lighting products are showcasing LED bulbs that are bright enough to replace energy-guzzling 100-watt light bulbs set to disappear from stores in January.
Their demonstrations at the LightFair trade show in Philadelphia this week mean that brighter LED bulbs will likely go on sale next year, but after a government ban takes effect.
The new bulbs will also be expensive - about $50 each - so the development may not prevent consumers from hoarding traditional bulbs. Read More . . .

When Rachel Maddow heard that Glenn Beck was planning a rally in Jerusalem, she sarcastically uttered "oh good" before launching into a short diatribe mocking the plan. And by mocking I mean insulting the intelligence and political views of Beck's followers.
After warning that any "American insertion" into the volatile Middle East must be done with care, she played Beck's announcement. Then the jabs started: "And don't worry Glenn Beck Followers, there will be travel deals for you to get yourself physically to Israel, to make it convenient for you to bring your subtle, nuanced, political understanding to a part of the world that really needs you."

Hamas Cleric: The Jews Will be Annihilated & Palestine Will Be Capital of New Caliphate
The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on May 17, 2011
Just last week, Egyptian presidential candidate Amr Moussa, the longtime secretary-general of the Arab League, told the Washington Post that Hamas isn't really a terror group. That might be harder to deny after he hears the audio below.
This is Hamas member and cleric Yunis Al-Astal reportedly declaring, "The [Jews] are brought in droves to Palestine so that the Palestinians - and the Islamic nation behind them - will have the honor of annihilating the evil of this gang." He also predicts that Palestine will become the capital of the new Islamic caliphate:

Office of Management and Budget Could Soon Unionize Under AFL-CIO
The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on May 16, 2011
Usually, when an organization wants to release news without really making it news, it will do so on Friday evening. So maybe it's not surprising that it wasn't until late Friday that a branch of the AFL-CIO confirmed that the Office of Management and Budget - the White House office in charge of number-crunching - could soon unionize.

Glenn's MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: Coming this August...Restoring Courage
Glenn has challenged listeners and viewers to clean the garbage out of their life with the 40 day 40 night challenge. He's challenged people to center their lives on a set of principles and values with the 9/12 Project. He's challenged the audience to get educated and prepare. He's challenged people to take a stand in Washington D.C. to Restore Honor. Even Glenn wasn't sure how each of these different projects and challenges were connected - until now. Glenn announced today a very special event coming this August: Restoring Courage. It will take place in Jerusalem. Why there, why now? Glenn has the details on radio today.

Israel under fire, remains on alert
Glenn predicted months ago that May 15th would bring turmoil to Israel and that's exactly what happened. Palestinian protesters rioted and clashed with Israeli security forces in Gaza and East Jerusalem yesterday. The protests were to mark the anniversary of the founding of Israel -- which many Palestinians equate to a "catastrophe." Reports indicate Iran may have a strong hand in the protests, which have seen protesters repeatedly trying to breach the border. A flotilla was blocked after they refused to communicate with Israel after breaching their water territory. Plus, the Hamas Prime Minister is now openly praying for an end to Israel. Glenn feels this is only the beginning -- why? Find out HERE.
Ben Stein: Arab Spring a 'fraud'
Stein nails exactly what is going on in the Middle East and the recent so called glorious democratic uprisings - it's a fraud. Stein: "There is a gigantic regional coup by Iran taking place. We are doing very little, if anything, to stop it. We are going to regret helping the Egyptians kick out Mubarak as much as we regret helping Khomeini force out the Shah. You can call it "Arab Spring" if you want. But with Iran now the regional superpower, it is a lot more like an extremely bleak Mideast winter." Well said. Glenn was hammered for saying the same thing in the midst of the uprisings. Will Stein get more of the same? Get the story at The Blaze.

Journalist, commentator or liar? CNN host digs deeper hole
Fareed Zakaria revealed last week that President Obama often sought 'wisdom and advice' from him and eagerly accepted this characterization from CNN host Eliot 'Client #9' Spitzer. It's safe to say Zakaria received phone calls from his employer and from the White House that went a little something like this: Fareed, SHUT UP. So, Zakaria is trying to save face and made a statement saying the characterization he's advising the President is false. Well, which is it? He accepted that account with Spitzer, and now rejects it. Was he lying then or now? The answer on radio today.

The only candidate Glenn has ever endorsed: Dan Adler
It's unprecedented. Glenn has never, ever endorsed a candidate to the point of recording campaign commercials...until now because Glenn is throwing his support behind Congressional candidate Dan Adler. As an entertainment industry veteran and 'new media pioneer' Adler is putting his talents on display with powerful, moving TV spots supporting his candidacy. Why is Glenn so supportive of a Hollywood type Progressive Democrat? Find out HERE.

Man spends life savings promoting end of world
A man is betting everything on May 21st being the date Christ makes His return to Earth and has spent it all on advertisements to warn unsuspecting citizens. Robert Fitzpatrick is basing his prediction off 89-year-old Harold Camping, who is leading the way predicting May 21st as the return date. Camping was already wrong once before, and will likely be wrong again. The really odd thing for Fitzpatrick is he is selling a book related to this story - why sell it if the end is near? Why not give it away? He'd rather not focus on the details (obv). READ
