We have an update for this monthly meeting.  PA State Representative Mike Vereb will be speaking at 6pm about The First Suburbs ProjectThe First Suburbs Project is new program aligning itself with HUD.  They want churches and municipal organizations to work with HUD and move people around to various communities in Delaware, Chester, Montgomery County as well as other states like Maryland.   They are trying to redistribute wealth and its people.  Their tag line is "End the tyranny of the zip code."  This is a new government program and another name for Section 8 Housing or the Home Voucher Program.

 

This meeting will also be an open mic/forum. We would like to hear from you. Please let us know your thoughts on congress, our economy, the Federal Reserve, Agenda 21, etc. Tell us your thoughts on how you would like to see the Valley Forge Patriots grow as a group.

2. Mitt Romney At His Apex?

If the Republican Presidential Primary were held today, Mitt Romney would probably be the nominee. But this may be the high water mark for Mitt Romney after yesterday's speech at the University of Michigan in which he gave a full throated defense of Romneycare.

In fact, in his Power Point presentation on slide 7, Mitt Romney defends the individual mandate as okay at the state level, but not at the federal level. That nuance may be constitutionally sound, but it sounds very much like Romney defending European socialized medicine at the state level.

A lot of people have waited on the sidelines hoping Romney would distance himself from Romneycare or apologize for it as Pawlenty has done with his global warming nonsense. Instead, Romney embraced his record.

3. RSC Debt Limit Plan: Cut, Cap, and Balance

The political world has been waiting with alacrity to hear the details of the GOP demand for raising the debt ceiling. The Republican Study Committee is wasting no time in publicizing their overarching condition for raising the debt ceiling; lowering the spending floor. You might think of it as the preeminent 'cap and trade' program.

We have long railed against an incremental approach to the battle for limited government and spending cuts. The reality is that Republicans don't have the requisite political power to statutorily roll back big government policies through the front door. They probably won't for some time. Consequently, their only recourse to impel meaningful and perennial change is to use the budget process to force the issue.

Republicans will have the opportunity to deny the issuance of any more debt as the debt limit fight reaches its crescendo towards the end of the spring. In September, they will have another opportunity to force the Democrats' hand by refusing to budge from the fundamentals of their FY 2012 budget, even if the Democrats threaten to shut down the government. Yes, even with control of "just one half of one third of government," the GOP can prevail in a budget fight with the support of the public.

The RSC is proposing a three-pronged plan that would attack all of the pressure points of the big government beast.

4. Joe Walsh's Smackdown of Obama on Immigration

Like no other president in American history, President Obama supports the domineering use of government over every facet of our lives. Yet, when it comes to one of the few core functions of government, like border security and the regulation of immigration, he is suddenly tepid about asserting power. Worse, he uses the power of executive agencies to disregard and subvert immigration laws that were duly passed by Congress. Now he is denigrating those who suffer from gang violence along the border and those who seek to fulfill our core constitutional responsibilities.

5. Tax Hikes Texas Style

I told you people Joe Straus was bad news. Under his leadership, the Texas House has decided to impose taxes on internet purchases via H.B. 2403. Conservatives in the State House supported it, arguing that it really didn't change anything in the law, but internet companies and tax advocates are raising all sorts of red flags that Texans are about to get screwed.

The legislation is before the State Senate right now. Basically, the legislature is considering getting rid of the "physical nexus" standard for tax collection. In effect, a retailer couldn't be required to collect sales taxes in Texas unless it had a physical connection to the state. Using political parlance, this law "clarifies existing law". Yeah, right.

6. Energy State Dems: The New Endangered Species

Democratic politicians once ruled the energy-producing states, but they are becoming quite a rare breed. Republicans scored strong electoral gains in the Congressional elections of 2010, particularly in Texas. Here in Louisiana, both houses of the state legislature have swung red, by a combination of election and defection; it's no secret who owns the moratorium and a host of other energy-hostile policy initiatives. Sen. Mary Landrieu remains the sole remaining Democrat in a statewide elective office in the Pelican State.

Mary and the other energy state Dems know upon which side their bread is buttered. Democrats in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana have a long history of working cooperatively with the oil and gas industry as a engine of jobs and economic growth in each of their respective states.

7. Teachers' Union Protects Teacher for Standing Idly By While Student is Beaten

Some viewers may find the video below, of a student being punched in the face repeatedly by another student, disturbing.

What many may find even more disturbing is the fact that the teacher stood by, with his hands in his pockets, as the student was beaten. However, what is truly appalling is the fact that the American Federation of Teachers is protecting the teacher's inaction.

The Obamas want credit for bringing American culture to the White House. When they decided to celebrate poetry at the White House on May 10, it was really not a surprise they would try to make it socially "relevant" by inviting a rap music "artist" to unload some rhymes.


The rapper goes by the name "Common" (real name: Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr.). He is celebrated by many on the left as a "socially conscious" street poet. But that's not the way it was seen by cops in New Jersey. ABC reporter Jake Tapper blogged that Dave Jones, president of the New Jersey State Trooper Fraternal Association, was contacted by the White House about trooper objections. Obama officials claimed they had never heard of Joanne Chesimard (who renamed herself Assata Shakur), a woman Common celebrated in "song."

When liberal investor George Soros gave $1.8 million to National Public Radio, it became part of the firestorm of controversy that jeopardized NPR's federal funding. But that gift only hints at the widespread influence the controversial billionaire has on the mainstream media. Soros, who spent $27 million trying to defeat President Bush in 2004, has ties to more than 30 mainstream news outlets - including The New York Times, Washington Post, the Associated Press, NBC and ABC.


Prominent journalists like ABC's Christiane Amanpour and former Washington Post editor and now Vice President Len Downie serve on boards of operations that take Soros cash. This despite the Society of Professional Journalist's ethical code stating: "avoid all conflicts real or perceived."

Dear Patriots,

 

As you know, SB1 (a so-called school choice bill), which more closely resembles an entitlement program for low-income students rather than an educational program for PA school children, has not been passed by PA Senate.  Good News, the PA House has passed a bill, HB1330 (votes 190-7), which will expand the EITC program, which will offer real school choice to PA students. 

 

The EITC program will not cost the taxpayers as it is financed through corporate donations, which in turn, receive tax deductions.  This program is more in line with limited government, lower taxes, and more choice.

 

Unfortunately, some of the State Senators, for unknown reasons, are intent in pushing SB1 on Pennsylvanians.  Republican Senator Piccola, Chairman of the Education Committee, called the bill, HB 1330, DEAD ON ARRIVAL when it goes to the Senate. 

 

Please contact your Senator and tell him/her to bring this out of committee and onto the Senate floor.  Call Senator Piccola's office at 717-787-6801 and tell him if he wants real school choice, he will bring this to floor and vote for it.

Sunset or Sunrise on Liberty?

The Current Crisis and the Opportunity of a New Dawn for Liberty

A few decades ago, one of the national service opportunities I pursued required a battery of examinations including a comprehensive personality profile. After three days of psychological tests, a career profiler compiled my assessment. In a later interview with said profiler, he looked at me and declared with candor, "You are crazy!"

That decree got no rise out of me. I have received that appraisal numerous times, but he did put a fresh perspective on it. He continued, "Not crazy in the pathological sense, but crazy in that you are one of very few people I have profiled who actually thrives in the midst of crisis and conflict." Apparently, most "normal people" try to avoid crisis and conflict. He labeled my folder, "Warrior."

In light of my penchant for what Sam Adams called "the animated contest for freedom," I offer the following opinion about the future of American Liberty.

On occasion I have been critical of Barack Hussein Obama, a phony "community organizer" con man, who, with the help of his Leftist puppeteers, masterfully duped 69 million Americans into giving him the most expensive public housing and benefits in the nation.

I am most critical of this charlatan's political endeavor to demolish free enterprise with a debt bomb, and from the economic rubble, resurrect a transformed USSA subject to tyrannical rule via Democratic Socialism.

Obama built his presidential campaign around the "change" theme: "This is our moment, this is our time to turn the page on the policies of the past, to offer a new direction. We are fundamentally transforming the United States of America."

His former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said infamously, "Never allow a crisis to go to waste," which was the basis for Obama's assertion, "this painful [economic] crisis provides us with an opportunity to transform our economy to improve the lives of ordinary people."

By no means will the full implementation of Democratic Socialism "improve the lives of ordinary people." As I have noted previously, Democratic Socialism, like Nationalist Socialism, is nothing more than Marxist Socialism repackaged. Likewise, it seeks a centrally planned economy directed by a single-party state that controls economic production by way of regulation and income redistribution.

The success of Democrat Socialism depends upon supplanting Essential Liberty -- the rights "endowed by our Creator" -- primarily by refuting such endowment.

Indeed, Obama's mission is transformation, and economic crisis is the horse he rode in on. It can also be the horse that he and his socialist cadre are chased out on.

Truth be told, I want to "fundamentally transform" what our nation has become after years of incremental encroachment upon Rule of Law by socialist predators, the most brazen offender in history being Obama. Indeed, I do not want the current economic "crisis to go to waste," and see it as a great opportunity to "change" our economy in such a way as to improve the lives of all Americans.

Of course, the opportunity I see in the current crisis is diametrically opposed to that which Obama and his Leftist cadres envision. I see a new dawn for Liberty on the horizon.

For all Patriots, steadfast in our devotion to Freedom, the sun is rising on one of two options to preserve the legacy of Liberty for this and future generations. The first and more desirable option is the transformational restoration of constitutional Rule of Law and the second is the transformational reformation of government, in fulfillment of Thomas Jefferson's contention, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

The current economic crisis, which had its beginnings in 2006 with the surprisingly ubiquitous collapse in real estate values and subsequent banking crisis, poses an ominous threat to Liberty. The Obama administration used the cover of this crisis to implement its so-called "stimulus plan," which primarily stimulated the growth of central government at an enormous cost.

The result was accelerated accumulation of crushing national debt, now approaching $15 trillion, which has placed our economy on a collision course with catastrophic collapse, short of bold intervention.

The economic indicators foretelling that collision abound.

The Commerce Department reports that the American economy grew at an annualized rate of 1.8 percent in the first quarter of 2011. (You might have missed that report amid all the political campaigning over OBL's demise.)

Home values fell three percent in the first quarter and it is estimated that more than 28 percent of homeowners now owe more than the value of their property.

Energy and commodity costs are highly volatile, in large measure due to abysmal domestic economic and energy policies plus weak foreign policy. One way to devalue outstanding debt is inflation, and there are plenty of indicators that inflation is underway.

Imports are up and exports are down. The International Monetary Fund estimates that China's economy will surpass ours by 2016.

Unemployment inched back up to 9 percent last month, but the "real" unemployment rate, those who have given up the search and part-time workers seeking full-time employment, is almost 16 percent.

More Americans are dependent upon government assistance payouts than ever before. More than 18 percent of total personal income was redistributed in the form of "government benefits." Almost one in seven households receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (food stamps).

The declining status of the U.S. dollar as the world's safest fiat currency is a metaphor for the decline of our standing as the world's beacon of liberty, the decline of "American exceptionalism."

Having a good recollection of the Carter administration, I invoke Yogi Berra's sentiment, "It is like déjà vu all over again."

Despite the considerable barriers these indicators pose to economic recovery, there is still time for a transformational restoration of constitutional Rule of Law and the consequential rescaling of our central government to comport with the limits placed upon it by our Constitution. But as noted above, that will require bold intervention, and it will require that a majority of the members of Congress honor and abide by their oath of office.

At present, there are outstanding plans on the table to put prosperity over poverty, including the Republican Study Committee Budget for FY 2012 and Heritage Foundation's comprehensive plan to restore prosperity.

House and Senate leaders are stepping out with bolder propositions to cut government spending. As a prerequisite to raising the national debt ceiling to avoid default, Speaker John Boehner has drawn the line, and may even hold it: "Without significant spending cuts and reforms to reduce our debt, there will be no debt limit increase, and the cuts should be greater than the accompanying increase in debt authority the president is given. We should be talking about cuts of trillions, not just billions."

Conservative Senate leaders are calling for a Balanced Budget Amendment as a condition to any agreement on increasing the national debt limit.

Of course, Obama, the consummate socialist, trotted out the class warfare card in response: "Their vision is less about reducing the deficit than it is about changing the basic social compact in America, [pitting] children with autism or Down's syndrome against every millionaire and billionaire in our society."

Then, in his fatuous display of faux bipartisan, Obama insisted the budget talks must "start by being honest about what's causing our deficit."

Apparently, Obama thinks the budget deficit is caused by a lack of government spending and regulation, as he is proposing a lot more of both.

So, given the current crisis and the long odds against the restoration of Rule of Law, would you concede that this portends a Sunset or Sunrise on Liberty?

Call me crazy -- that profiler certainly did -- but I clearly see a new dawn for Liberty, whether it be transformational restoration of constitutional Rule of Law or the transformational reformation of government. Count me in for either option.

I believe, as did my mentor, President Ronald Reagan: "America's best days are yet to come. Our proudest moments are yet to be. Our most glorious achievements are just ahead."

But I also know, as did he, that "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States when men were free."

That extinction will arrive only if we "shrink from the service of our country."

Heritage Files Brief Opposing Obamacare's Individual Mandate

 

Yesterday, The Heritage Foundation filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, reiterating Heritage's opposition to the individual mandate that is a key piece of the Obamacare statute. This is the first time we have ever filed such a brief-as far anyone around here can remember. But we had no other choice. In its merits brief before the appeals court, the U.S. government quoted a 21-year-old statement by a Heritage Foundation policy expert supporting an individual mandate for health insurance, when Heritage's view today is to the contrary.

Obama plan for health care quality dealt a setback

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's main idea for getting quality health care at less cost was in jeopardy Wednesday after key medical providers called his administration's initial blueprint so complex it's unworkable.

Just over a month ago, the administration released long-awaited draft regulations for "accountable care organizations," networks of doctors and hospitals that would collaborate to keep Medicare patients healthier and share in the savings with taxpayers. Obama's health care overhaul law envisioned quickly setting up hundreds of such networks around the county to lead a bottom-up reform of America's bloated health care system.

But in an unusual rebuke, an umbrella group representing premier organizations such as the Mayo Clinic wrote the administration Wednesday saying that more than 90 percent of its members would not participate, because the rules as written are so onerous it would be nearly impossible for them to succeed.

"It's not just a simple tweak, it's a significant change that needs to be made," said Donald Fisher, president of the American Medical Group Association, which represents nearly 400 large medical groups around the country providing care for roughly 1 in 3 Americans. Its members, including the Cleveland Clinic, Intermountain Healthcare in Utah, and Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania, had been seen as the vanguard for accountable care.

In the early 1970's the Congress passed Title IX an amendment to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which was supposed to eliminate discrimination against women at colleges and universities receiving federal money. Who could be against such a law?
Nevertheless, as so many other efforts to help specific groups, Title IX's "help" has morphed into a grotesque perversion of its intended purpose. The law of unintended consequences has joined forces with extreme political correctness to produce a monster which is devouring men's sports teams at colleges across the country.
Over recent years, in order to maintain "gender equity" in funding college sports and insure that women and men's teams are funded exactly as equals in the eyes of government bureaucrats men's are regularly discontinued at alarming rates. Abuse of Title IX by the P.C. police has killed at least 467 college (men's) wrestling teams, 19 men's gymnastics teams and a number of college baseball ... The debate about "anchor babies," American citizen children born on United States' soil to illegal alien mothers, has moved into the spotlight. According to a recent CNN story titled "Is the Next Immigration Fight over 'Anchor Babies'?" Senator Lindsay Graham and House Judiciary Committee Chair Lamar Smith are among many legislators considering a requirement that at least one parent be either a citizen or a legal resident before a child can be granted citizenship.

In January, the State Legislators for Legal Immigration also proposed a legislative correction to prevent anchor babies from being citizens. The coalition of lawmakers from 40 states claims that the 14th Amendment has been wrongly applied to those born on U.S. soil to mothers who are not citizens.

Yet as the birth tourism industry continues to grow, Congress remains mute about the scandal....

May 11, 2011 - The American Civil Rights Union (ACRU) filed an amicus curiae brief today in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in support of Florida and other states in the case of State of Florida, et al. v HHS, et al. seeking to strike down Obamacare.

"The brief argues that Obamacare's individual mandate is unconstitutional because the delegated, enumerated power in the Commerce Clause to regulate interstate commerce does not include compelling people to buy government-designated health insurance," said ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara, who wrote the brief.

The Heartland Institute recently published a book-length study by Mr. Ferrara entitled The Obamacare Disaster: An Appraisal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The Incredible Shrinking Recovery

There was President Obama at a recent fundraiser telling his star-struck enablers, look at me, after just two and a half years, I got the economy growing again. He didn't tell them that the pitiful 1.7% annualized real growth rate in the first quarter compares to 7.1% annualized real growth at the same point in President Reagan's recovery.

Over the first 7 quarters of the Reagan recovery, the economy boomed at a real growth rate of 7.1%. Over the first 7 quarters of the Obama recovery, the economy stumbled along at a real growth rate of 2.8%, less than half as much, less than 40% as much actually.

Facts And Figures

In February 2009 I wrote an article for The Wall Street Journal entitled "Reaganomics vs. Obamanomics," which argued that the emerging outlines of President Obama's economic policies were following in close detail exactly the opposite of President Reagan's economic policies. As a result, I predicted that Obamanomics would have the opposite results of Reaganomics. That prediction seems to be on track.

When President Reagan entered office in 1981, he faced actually much worse economic problems than President Obama faced in 2009. Three worsening recessions starting in 1969 were about to culminate in the worst of all in 1981-1982, with unemployment soaring into double digits at a peak of 10.8%. At the same time America suffered roaring double-digit inflation, with the CPI registering at 11.3% in 1979 and 13.5% in 1980 (25% in two years). The Washington establishment at the time argued that this inflation was now endemic to the American economy, and could not be stopped, at least not without a calamitous economic collapse.

Oh really?

 

Repealing billions of dollars in tax breaks for Big Oil won't raise U.S. fuel prices, Senator Max Baucus said in an opening shot directed at top petroleum executives summoned to Capitol Hill on Thursday to defend their surging profits.

  

Oil prices are set on a world market and the U.S. share of crude production is less than 10 percent, Baucus said before the CEOs of some of the most powerful companies in the world.

Obama plan for health care quality dealt a setback

Providers call it un-workable

 

President Barack Obama's main idea for getting quality health care at less cost was in jeopardy Wednesday after key medical providers called his administration's initial blueprint so complex it's unworkable.

  

Just over a month ago, the administration released long-awaited draft regulations for "accountable care organizations," networks of doctors and hospitals that would collaborate to keep Medicare patients healthier and share in the savings with taxpayers. Obama's health care overhaul law envisioned quickly setting up hundreds of such networks around the county to lead a bottom-up reform of America's bloated health care system.

Budget deficit on track to exceed $1 trillion

ONE TRILLION!

  

The government is taking in more tax revenue as the economy improves, but not nearly enough to keep the federal budget deficit from exceeding $1 trillion for a third straight year.

  

The deficit for April dropped to $40.5 billion, half the imbalance from the same month last year, the Treasury Department said Wednesday. Tax receipts were up 45 percent last month compared to the same month one year ago.

Obama tells companies to 'step up' and hire workers

President asks biz to hire labor it does not need

 

President Obama urged businesses to "step up" and hire workers, pressing banks and other corporations to do more to help an economy that he said would take "several years" to recover fully.

  

In a town-hall style meeting conducted by CBS News on Wednesday, Obama said the weak housing market and high gasoline prices were the biggest "headwinds" dragging on the economy.

In these photos, you might think those activists are protesting state government. But actually, they are protesting all of us.

 

They oppose our efforts to support commonsense budget solutions that will lift the Keystone State out of debt, and put us back on the track to prosperity.

These photos show just a sampling of the hundreds of angry protestors who showed up at the stateprotest Capitol last week. Most of the protestors were public sector union members, who marched in the streets for higher taxes, higher spending and, ironically, higher unemployment.

 

They advocate for the failed policies of the past eight years - policies that have seen government spending grow at double the rate of inflation and beyond citizens' ability to pay, and reinforced the perception that Pennsylvania has a bad business climate that is getting worse.

 

Don't take our word for it.  Read this new "best-worst-places-for-business"study that gives Pennsylvania the dubious honor of being one of five states that dropped the most over the past five years - from middle-of-the-road 26th in 2006 to a dismal 39th this year.  One of the factors cited as important to the rankings - the need to control spending and out-of-control government debt - the very thing "tax-and-spend" proponents are arguing against!

 

And bad for business means bad for jobs.

 

Fostering economic growth, on the other hand, will provide better opportunities for everyone.
We're all in this together, and there are no easy solutions.  But we do know we can't afford more of the status quo.

 

You can help neutralize the voices of the protestors by emailing your state legislators to urge them to restore fiscal responsibility to the state budget.

Common praised Assata Shakur -- who is that? Glenn has the shocking (but not shocking) details on radio today. WATCH

One caller to the program took issue with Glenn's stance on the rapper Common visiting the White House -- wonders what the big deal is and why the right is focusing on it. After all, Common is just an entertainer. Why can't everyone just let it go? This quickly turned the caller into the program punching bag as Pat, Stu & Glenn all took turns roughing his opinion up.
