Lecture Summary:

The Obama administration's dramatic expansion of the federal government, all accomplished in the name of "progress," has come at the expense of core constitutional principles like separation of powers and federalism. With specific examples that explain the idea of the "administrative state," this lecture will detail the direct link between today's politics and the Progressive ideology of a hundred years ago.

About the First Principles series:

This monthly lecture series, launched in December 2008, addresses significant and timely political, historical, and economic topics from a constitutional perspective. Past speakers have included David Horowitz, Brian Kennedy, Paul Rahe, John Bolton, Thomas G. West, and Larry P. Arnn.

 Tea Party PAC Endorses John Featherman In Mayoral Primary;

Calls Karen Brown's Candidacy Questionable At Best

Philadelphia, PA (May 4, 2011) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party PAC Board of Directors voted overwhelmingly, last night, to endorse John Featherman in the May 17, 2011 Republican Mayoral Primary.

This marks only the second time the PAC has endorsed a candidate in a non-federal election.

"First and foremost, this endorsement speaks to the intelligence and credibility that John Featherman brings to the table," said PAC President, Don Adams.

"We agree with much of his platform, especially his commitment to enacting School Choice and his pledge to cut the city sales tax, as well as the real estate transfer tax.

"Obviously, we are sending a message to the Philadelphia Republican City Committee that we disapprove of their support for Karen Brown, an unknown, inexperienced candidate who was a registered Democrat through January of this year," said Mr. Adams.

"Why would the Committee support a candidate from the opposing party--especially one with such a limited grasp of the issues--over an elected Republican Committeeman with Mr. Featherman's business background and political acumen?"

Mr. Featherman, an award winning real estate agent with Prudential Fox & Roach, holds an MBA from Columbia University.

"John Featherman would like to eliminate the gross receipts tax to bring more business into the city, thereby creating jobs," said PAC Board Member and Philadelphia resident, Lin DeCesare.

"He also intends to bid out all legally permissible city services, which would save the city millions of dollars.

"John is man of ideas and principles. We are proud to endorse his candidacy and will be working on his behalf now through election day," said Ms. DeCesare.

(In March of this year, the PAC voted unanimously to endorse Patti Weaver, a founder of the Pittsburgh Tea Movement, for Allegheny County Executive.  Ms. Weaver has since withdrawn her candidacy and her name will not appear on the ballot.  Her endorsement was the first non-federal PAC endorsement.)

Announcement From Sheepdogs

ITS  WITH A HEAVY HEART TO REPORT THAT

THE PAMELA GELLER EVENT WAS CANCELLED.

As you know- since Feburary, I have been sending invites to everyone to come to the Pamela Geller event on May 14. Everything was progressing smoothly until I received a phone call today, from Pastor Meute of the Avondale Presbyterian Church. Pastor Muete told me that the event was cancelled. Of course I  was never asked to give my input about this decision!!

The pastor never once offered an apology or a opportunity to discuss.

It seems that the Pastor and his elder members are too cowardly to take a stand against the Shariah loving leftists who threatened to protest when Pamela Geller came to the hall to give a talk about Shariah law. What a bunch of cowards!! is this what this country has morphed in to?

Here it is- evidence that our country has lost its right to freedom of speech unless you talk trash about Bush or dunk a crucifix in a bottle of urine. This a shameful. How much longer are the good people of this country going to take before all is lost. this is not about us its about our kids. when do we take a stand!!!

The pastor called Pamela Geller and the American Sheepdogs racists and bigots. I asked the Pastor does he know anyone who is a sheepdog; does he know Pamela Geller. He admitted that he did not. I told the Pastor, "for your information, Pamela Geller and the members of the Sheepdogs are patriots who working hard to keep us free. they are good, decent people unlike the people who threatened you. For a moment,  Pastor Meute was silent and then he whinned that I was judging him when I told him he's not a Christian or a Patriot.

Judging him?? Is he not judging me and Pamela Geller for trying to teach about a very dangerous enemy? Oh, the hyprocrisy never ends!

This is the beginning of how we loss our rights. a little chip here and a little chip there. I guess I knew it all along but I kept denying what was the inevitable. its a lot deeper than even I realized.

RedState Morning Briefing

For May 6, 2011

1. Will Obama 2012 Campaign Run On The "Gutsy Call" Of Doing The Obvious?

If you click on the URL www.gutsycall.com, you will notice that - as of this writing - it redirects you to the Obama 2012 re-election campaign website. The URL was apparently purchased yesterday, although the purchaser seems to have covered its tracks. It would appear that this is being done with the intention of using "Gutsy Call" as a campaign slogan for Obama's 2012 campaign, in an effort to capitalize on President Obama's decision -after just 16 hours of deliberation - to order the operation that led to Osama bin Laden's death.

If that's the plan, it speaks badly of President Obama as a leader and of the political instincts of his campaign team.

2. The First Debate: Pawlenty & Cain Win

Two winners came out of the South Carolina Republican Presidential Debate.

Let me start this off by noting that Frank Luntz's panel went for Herman Cain first and Rick Santorum second. Why? Their effective takedowns of Obama. In fact, Republican candidates need to note this, Santorum scored big tonight in his very effective take down of Obamacare.

Now, to the real winners.

The first winner is Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota.

The other big winner is Herman Cain.

3. Violating the Oath - Voting For Cloture

In voting for cloture on the nomination of Jack McConnell on Wednesday, 11 Republican Senators violated the oath they took to defend the constitution. It's that simple.

Senators Alexander, Brown of Massachusetts, Chambliss, Collins, Graham, Isakson, Kirk, McCain, Murkowski, Snowe and Thune provided Democrats with the necessary votes to overcome a filibuster of McConnell to be a district court judge in Rhode Island.

How bad is Jack McConnell? One only needs to look to the scathing Dear Colleague letter circulated by Senator Cornyn prior to the Senate conducting a cloture vote.

4. Show Us The Budget, Senator Conrad

Senator Kent Conrad is about to release the Senate Democrats' budget. What we know so far is that Senate Democrats are aghast at what might be in it.

Now, I can't actually tell you what is in Senator Conrad's budget because only Senate Democrats have actually seen it. It is not released to the public. Even Senate Republicans have not seen it.

5. Did Pakistan Aid the Bin Laden Raid?

We will probably never know a lot of what transpired in that shabby villa in Abbottabad but what we do know is that the release of information has been dreadfully mismanaged by the White House and calls into question whether anyone there is interested in much more than making themselves look good or damaging someone else.

The number of stories emerging from the White House and immediately being contradicted by the White House, and in the process leaving the White House spokescritter, Jay Carney, resembling a stunned mullet, include: which of bin Laden's sons was killed, bin Laden using a woman as a shield, his wife being killed, bin Laden firing at US forces, the raid being monitored in real time, and the cause of the helicopter crash.

We also can say with some degree of certainty that we've been misled on the involvement of Pakistan.

6. White House Puts Out Feelers on the Transportation Opportunities Act

Via The Hill:

"The Obama administration has floated a transportation authorization bill that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive."

It's called the Transportation Opportunities Act, which is very ironic because I'm not sure of one opportunity that this would provide for the middle class Obama seems to keen on assisting. If you think for half a second you'll quickly realize that we pay gas taxes every time we fill up our cars.

7. Some Thoughts on Inheritance

"Inheritance" is a neutral word-it can be bad and good depending on the circumstance. You don't get to pick what you get any more than you can pick your parents. On the one hand, you have things like photo albums and trusts funds. On the other you have the lasting repercussions of bad behavior, the sins of the father if you will, that can reach down across generations. Most of us inherit a combination of the two from our predecessors, hopefully with more of the former than the

This construct applies to presidents as well. You begin the job basically beholden to your predecessor, who has created the circumstances under which you have to try to do your job. Indeed, your first year is in many ways the political equivalent of adolescence, as you try to break away from the existing model and establish your own identity. This process can be particularly dramatic when you have successive presidents of opposing political parties.

So we have seen President Obama rebel against the Bush administration legacy throughout both his campaign and his first twenty-seven months in office. Calling attention to his inherited burdens, particularly at home but also abroad, has been a constant refrain in Obama's rhetoric, an inevitable codicil to any policy announcement. To date, these references have been exclusively negative and pejorative, and to be honest many Americans suffering from an extended economic downturn and weary of the lengthy foreign wars have tended to accept these statements at face value.

Obama Walks Away From 9/11 Family Member Who Asks About Investigation of CIA Interrogators

The Blaze | by Emily Esfahani Smith | Posted on May 5, 2011

Debra Burlingame
Debra Burlingame

Debra Burlingame, who lost her pilot brother on 9/11 when his plane crashed into the Pentagon, had a reportedly chilly exchange with President Barack Obama today. During a meeting with a select group of 9/11 families, Obama greeted Burlingame and even hugged her after a few pleasantries.

But when Burlingame asked about Eric Holder's plan to file criminal charges against CIA interrogators, Obama's friendly manner allegedly stiffened.

Bin Laden Killing: How the White House, Pentagon and CIA Botched the Storyline

By James Rosen | Published May 06, 2011 | FoxNews.com

How the White House, Pentagon and CIA Botched the StorylineFrom the very first moment the world learned that American forces had killed Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden, even the tiniest details from the momentous event have captivated the nation. Every single nugget of data has been the stuff of breaking news, handheld "alerts" and watercooler discussion, in a way the country has never previously witnessed.

No landmark event of the 20th century, from World Wars I and II to the Cuban missile crisis, from the moon landing to the fall of the Soviet Union - not even the attacks of September 11, 2001 -- have been as widely transmitted, reported on, written about, and talked about by as many people, across so many different platforms of communication, as the killing of bin Laden. Within days, it has become a singular event of the Information Age.

. . . .

The true irony is: From the first moments, a good number of the details about bin Laden's killing, on points large and small, have been wrong.

Give them another reason why Obama has GOT to go.

NO. 8.

He has killed whatever was left of the "Special Relationship" by repeatedly stabbing America's most loyal ally, Britain, in the back: returning the Winston Churchill bust; snubbing a visiting British Prime Minister with a gift of a box of crappy DVDs (when in return Obama got a really thoughtful present: an ornamental pen-holder made from the timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet); stoking up further anti-Brit resentment by referring constantly to the multinational BP as "British Petroleum"-a name it hasn't used in over a decade.

Say you're trying to fly as much as possible this year so as to increase your Carbon Footprint.

When the liberal turns red and accuses you of killing the planet, reply: "Say WHAT? Of course carbon dioxide is good. Carbon dioxide is plant food. The more of it we have the better stuff grows and more people we can feed using less land. You have a problem with that? You, what, want Africans to starve or something?"

9/11 Relative: Obama Turned His Back on Me

Debra Burlingame, the sister of Charles "Chic" Burlingame (pilot of the plane that crashed into the Pentagon) told Fox News Thursday that President Barack Obama turned his back on her during the 9/11 memorial when she attempted to engage him on the prosecution of the men who interrogated Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Burlingame said she confronted Obama about Attorney General Eric Holder prosecuting the men, who likely produced intelligence leading us to bin Laden.

Burlingame describes the encounter with Obama: "As a former attorney I know you can't tell the Attorney General what to do, he said, 'No, I can't.' But I said 'we -- that shouldn't stop you from giving your opinion. We wouldn't be here today if they hadn't done their jobs. Can't you at least give them your opinion.' And he said 'no I won't,' and he turned around and walked away."

Sen. Inhofe Exclusive: Pakistan Knew bin Laden Was There

Thursday, 05 May 2011

By Jim Meyers and Kathleen Walter

Sen. Jim Inhofe, a member of the Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, tells Newsmax there is "no doubt in my mind" that Pakistani officials knew the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden in their country.

The Oklahoma Republican also calls on the Obama administration to expand the use of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay to house terrorist suspects now held in foreign jails.

'Is this as close to victory as we are ever going to get?" I wondered aloud as I absorbed the headlines. I've been struggling with that question, and perhaps you have too. But I have drawn some conclusions: Today, we may all feel like SEALs, but the credit doesn't go to our military or our politicians. It goes to the military families: the spouses, the children, and the parents who have made this long war possible.

We've been at war for a decade, and only 1 percent of this country has any idea of what that actually means. Neither Barack Obama nor George W. Bush has kissed his wife goodbye four, five, or six times to go into the unknown.

Bullet Points: OBL's Termination

Geronimo-E KIA -- A Short-Lived Victory in a Long War

Navy SEALs

Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday at his Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound. While Barack Hussein Obama claimed credit, reliable sources indicate the operation was actually carried out by JSOC Tier One SEALs, the Gold Squadron boys from Little Creek. Based on the severity of his wounds, OBL most likely collided with double-tap 7.62s through the head and chest. Allahu Akbar!

Turns out that OBL was hiding in plain sight. Though his compound was located just a short stroll from Pakistan's national military academy and near the nation's capital of Islamabad (which translates "Abode of Islam"), the SEAL assault was conducted with little input from Pakistan. In fact, despite Obama's assertions about our "friends" there, our sources indicate that Pakistani military leaders were advised to "stay clear of the operation" or suffer significant airborne "collateral damage" to their neighboring military infrastructure.

Of note, however, according to CIA Director Leon Panetta, there was plenty of input from Gitmo detainees interrogated under Bush administration orders since 2007.

Osama had been living in his defensive compound since its custom construction for him in 2005. U.S. intel has been aware of his whereabouts for at least 10 months, but they withheld action pending the collection of counterterrorism intelligence regarding other al-Qa'ida operatives. The success of many "hunt and kill" operations in Afghanistan, and other parts of the world, is directly attributable to surveillance of traffic in and out of Osama's compound. Indeed, the after-action cleanup produced a mountain of intel from computers and other material collected at OBL's compound.

Osama's death marks a long-awaited triumph for the United States, but it came much too late and at too high a price. Michael Scheuer, former CIA chief of the bin Laden hunt team, confirmed with great disdain that SpecOps had not one but two opportunities to kill OBL before 9/11. Yet with Osama literally in their sights, President Bill Clinton ordered that we hold fire in both of those operations. Consequently, OBL's 9/11 Jihadis were able to settle into our suburbs under Clinton's watch.

Within hours of the operation's success, OBL's remains were dumped at sea (no doubt a new source for some who will claim it was not Osama). However, as a rule of thumb, it's always good to quickly dispose of the remains of enemy martyrs, as there is a direct correlation between the time one holds onto a corpse and the amount of insurrection one receives in response.

So, now that OBL is out of the way, what next? Here are some bullet points to help distinguish between BHO's rhetoric and the reality of asymmetric warfare.

1. What is the significance of OBL's demise? Osama was a metaphor for Islamic terrorism around the world, most notably the al-Qa'ida brand and its franchises. While significantly symbolic, his death is a short-lived victory in the Long War. We must continue to prosecute vigorously against Jihadistan to ensure our National Security at home and critical national interests abroad. It is vital that we remain focused on who we fight and, no less so, why we fight.

As President George W. Bush outlined in his Doctrine of Pre-emption back at the dawn of Operation Enduring Freedom, "This is a long war, and we have a comprehensive strategy to win it. We're taking the fight to the terrorists abroad, so we don't have to face them here at home." Fortunately, that doctrine was largely continued by BHO, however reluctantly and in contradiction with his "soaring" presidential campaign rhetoric.

The perennial question about this Long War strategy is how to balance our response to asymmetric threats versus symmetric threats -- when do special operations suffice versus frontal assault. Al-Qa'ida and its manifestations are clearly asymmetric threats that will require SpecOps well into the future. But what do we do with the Taliban, and can we do it without 100,000 troops committed to Afghanistan?

For certain, OBL's "capture or kill" file can now be closed, but we have a long list of al-Qa'ida leadership successors to terminate, including Osama's heir apparent, Ayman Al-Zawahri in Pakistan and native son of New Mexico turned Jihadi terrorist, Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen.

2. Who deserves the credit? The short answer is the operators who assaulted OBL's compound -- though you might not know it given the assertion of Obama's counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, that Obama's (read: "Leon Panetta's") approval of the operation was "one of the ... gutsiest calls of any president in recent memory." (Indeed, a "very gutsy call" according to Sen. Diane Feinstein, chair of the Senate Intel Committee.) For the record, "gutsy" would describe the entirety of the SEAL Team operation, and particularly the point man on the final assault against OBL. It would not, however, describe a U.S. president putting other men in harm's way from the safe and comfortable confines of the White House.

As to the question of whose policies should be credited with hunting down and killing Osama: If Obama, with full Narcissistic Personality Disorder in bloom, had not been so quick to claim credit, that question would be irrelevant. "Shortly after taking office, I [made] the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority," he said Sunday night. Apparently Obama is under the false impression that killing Osama had been a low priority for the Bush administration since 12 September 2001. For once, BHO should have "blamed Bush," for it was clearly the extension of Bush's polices that resulted in the death of OBL. On the bright side, perhaps BHO will now take full responsibility for everything else happening on his watch, and stop blaming Bush!

By way of review, then-Senator Obama and later candidate Obama actually led the condemnation of the Bush administration for "torturing" 9/11 masterminds Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other high-ranking al-Qa'ida terrorists. However, Obama used the results of those interrogations, after shooting water up their noses (waterboarding), to track down and execute the apparently unarmed Osama bin Laden without so much as reading him his rights and ensuring him due process of law in a New York courtroom. If BHO deserves any credit, it is for keeping Bush policies largely intact.

3. In his speech on OBL's death, BHO claimed that in the aftermath of 9/11, "no matter what God we prayed to ... we were united as one American family." Actually, there were many instances of Muslims within the U.S. expressing elation over the attack. Even Obama's "spiritual mentor" Jeremiah "G-D America" Wright, a close confidant of the Nation of Islam's consummate anti-Semite, Louis Farrakhan, claimed, "White America got a wake-up call after 9/11. White America ... came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just disappeared as the great white West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns." "God Bless America?" asked Wright. "No, no, no, g-d d--- America!"

Further, though Obama claimed that Osama did not represent Islam, he personally ordered that "the burial of bin Laden's remains be done in strict conformance with Islamic precepts and practices," which means Osama was cleaned, wrapped in white, and lowered into the sea after a lengthy service under the supervision of a Muslim chaplain.

(Of course, it did not take long for SpecOps to make hay of his disposal at sea: At a favorite watering hole in Little Creek, there is a new drink, "The Geronimo," which contains two shots and a splash.)

Obama claimed, "We must also reaffirm that the United States is not -- and never will be -- at war with Islam." That's nice, but about 150 million Islamist adherents believe they are at war with us. As the imam at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque made clear this week, "Today the dogs of the West are rejoicing at the killing one of the lions of Islam. ... We say to them, from Al-Aqsa Mosque, from the heart of the Caliphate, which, Allah willing, is soon to come: 'Dogs should not rejoice at the killing of lions. A country of dogs will always remain a country of dogs, while the lion remains a lion, even after it is killed."

4. From the "hypocrisy files": Despite Obama's claim that "Osama bin Laden is not a trophy," BHO is making the celebrity campaign rounds this week touting his victory, including a photo-op stop at the hallowed memorial of Ground Zero, and countless media interviews. (Perhaps he can check on progress of the Ground Zero Mosque?)

Additionally, upon denying requests to release photos from the OBL raid, BHO said, "Imagine how the American people would react if al-Qa'ida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet." Memo to Barack: Al-Qa'ida has killed our troops (not to mention beheaded American citizens) "and has put photos (and videos) of the body on the internet" MANY times, but Americans have yet to strap on explosives and self-detonate amid crowds of Muslim civilians. Maybe Obama should ask families gathered for his Ground Zero stop how they felt about watching the collapse of the WTC towers upon their loved ones.

For the record, George Bush, out of humility and respect for the victims of 9/11, declined Obama's invitation to join him at the Ground Zero, in order not to dignify BHO's campaign stop with his presence.

Typical of the hypocrisy from other Useful Idiots on the Left is the response from Nancy Pelosi. In 2006, when the Bush administration was hunting OBL, she concluded, "[E]ven if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. To capture him now I don't think makes us any safer." However, Monday she changed her tune: "The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qa'ida. I salute President Obama ... in achieving this major accomplishment. ... [T]he death of Osama bin Laden is historic."

5. Speaking of "Useful Idiots," while Obama is campaigning in New York this week, Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-HI), chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, will be holding hearings on the "inappropriate and devastating" choice of "Geronimo" as the codename for the OBL mission. Seems appropriate to me, as Geronimo, the Chiricahua Apache fugitive, evaded capture by U.S. forces for almost 30 years. Problem is, "Geronimo" was the name Mexicans gave to the Chiricahua leader whose real name was Goyaale, which means, "one who yawns." Memo to Sen. Akaka: Do your homework. And hope they don't catch wind that the Black Hawk helicopters used in the mission, like most helicopters in the U.S. inventory (Iroquois, Apache, Chinook, Kiowa, Creek, Lakota, etc.), also have Indian names, with the exception of the Black Hawk modified for BHO's use, which is named "White Hawk."

6. What is the reaction from other Western nations? It took less than a New York second for Euro-Socialists to condemn the killing of OBL. Europe's leading newsmagazine and Germany's top news site, Der Spiegel, led with this headline the day after OBL's demise: Justice, American Style -- Was Bin Laden's Killing Legal?, expressing "serious doubts about whether the targeted killing was legal under international law and the laws of war." Sounds like the kind of UN pandering we generally hear from BHO and Hillary Clinton. In any case, one wonders whether Der Spiegel would have raised the same concerns had Americans killed Der Fuhrer. Sauerkrauts!

And last, because al-Qa'ida must now assert its relevance in the absence of its symbolic leader, the success of the OBL mission elevates the danger of terrorist attack on CONUS or U.S. facilities and citizens abroad,. No doubt OBL has left a written and recorded message to be played posthumously, giving charge to his adherents.

As of this writing, according to unclassified accounts, the DoD, CIA and FBI have thwarted 38 planned al-Qa'ida attacks on the U.S. With continued vigilance, perhaps future Jihadi plans for attack will also be added to the "thwarted" category.

And a closing note: Today is our National Day of Prayer. We have much for which to be thankful.

Bin Laden Mission Prompts Lawmakers to Rethink Aid to Pakistan

By Emily Cadei, CQ Staff

Even as they celebrated the military raid that killed Osama bin Laden, lawmakers turned their attention to Pakistan and called for renewed scrutiny of the billions of dollars in aid Washington provides Islamabad each year.

"Several factors warrant a reassessment of U.S. aid to Pakistan, and this is one of them," said Patrick J. Leahy, D-Vt., the chairman of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee responsible for foreign aid.

One of his fellow appropriators - Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-N.J. - even called for the United States to suspend aid altogether.

The fact that the al Qaeda mastermind was located and killed in a large compound less than 100 miles from the Pakistani capital raised questions for members of Congress, some of whom already are clamoring for answers. The response they receive could affect long-term U.S.-Pakistan relations, they say.

"There are going to be a lot of questions raised here in Congress about what people in the Pakistan intelligence agencies in particular knew or should have known about the presence of bin Laden in Pakistan itself," Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said at a news conference Monday.

"This is going to be a time of real pressure" on Pakistani officials, Lieberman said, "to basically prove to us that they didn't know that bin Laden was there."

Rep. Adam B. Schiff, a member of the House Intelligence Committee and the Appropriations subcommittee that oversees foreign assistance, agreed.

"I think depending on what level of cooperation we received and the effort to investigate this compound and how much the Pakistanis knew could have a significant effect" on how Congress views future aid, Schiff, D-Calif., said in an interview.

In its fiscal 2012 budget request, the State Department is seeking $3 billion in foreign assistance to Islamabad, much of it part of a $7.5 billion, multi-year economic development package authorized in 2009. The Defense Department requested $2.3 billion in coalition support funds in fiscal 2012 to bankroll Pakistani counterterrorism efforts.

Strong Doubts

Some in Congress are not even waiting for an investigation before calling on the United States to block that flow of funds.

"Before we send another dime, we need to know whether Pakistan truly stands with us in the fight against terrorism," Lautenberg said in a statement. "Until Congress and the American public are assured that the Pakistani government is not shielding terrorists, financial aid to Pakistan should be suspended."

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, the ranking member on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs panel, did not call for a complete halt to U.S. funding for Pakistan, but said Congress should consider attaching more strings to the military aid it provides as a way "to keep the pressure on Pakistan."

The Obama administration is urging restraint.

Asked at a news conference how the United States could still have confidence in Pakistan's commitment to fighting terrorism, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton countered that Pakistan has "contributed greatly to our efforts to dismantle al Qaeda."

"In fact, cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound in which he was hiding," Clinton said. "Going forward, we are absolutely committed to continuing that cooperation."

The White House's counterterrorism adviser, John O. Brennan, was more circumspect about Pakistan's role in a briefing later in the day. "I think people are raising a number of questions and understandably so," Brennan said. "We are looking right now at how he was able to hold out there for so long."

Brennan said it was "inconceivable that bin Laden did not have a support system in the country," but declined to speculate on whether that support included Pakistani officials.

And like Clinton, Brennan maintained that the U.S.-Pakistan "partnership is critical to breaking the back of al Qaeda."

Some Influential Defenders

Many in Congress also appear to have concluded that cooperation with Pakistan, however flawed, remains essential to combatting terrorism as well as finding a solution to the war in Afghanistan.

"We have to remember there are still equities that we have in Pakistan as it relates to our national security," said House Intelligence Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Mich. "It's incredibly important for us that we maintain a relationship so that we can pursue these targets that we know are posing a threat to the U.S. It's a balance, and we'll have to work through it."

And one senior congressional aide cautioned that bin Laden's compound may not have been as easy to spot as it appears now.

"You have to remember that the rich in Pakistan and many parts of the developing world live in huge, protected compounds," the aide said. "The fact that it was relatively close to an Army base wouldn't necessarily indicate any Pakistani complicity."

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman John Kerry, D-Mass., noted in an interview on MSNBC that Islamabad has "allowed us to do a lot" to combat terrorists in Pakistan.

"We've been allowed to have a lot of these people on the ground who were able to do some of this tracking and analysis. We have been allowed to do a lot of drone strikes, which, up until now, put enormous pressure on al Qaeda," Kerry said.

One of the authors of the 2009 aid package to Pakistan (PL 111-73), Kerry has long been an advocate for stronger economic and diplomatic relations. He continues to oppose cuts to financial assistance to Pakistan, an aide said Monday, and prefers that the U.S. instead consider trying to increase people-to-people contact, one of the aims of the 2009 package.

Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations and a former senior official under Presidents George Bush and George W. Bush, predicted that the latest developments will simply perpetuate what has long been a dysfunctional relationship.

"If history is any guide, the shakeout from this will be both temporary and incomplete. This will add to the narrative on each side that notes the imperfections in the bilateral relationship," Haass said in a call with reporters. "This has been, is, and will remain one of the most fraught and complicated and difficult bilateral relationships that exists in the world today."

Obama's agenda: Overwhelm the system

Wayne Allyn Root | Jun. 6, 2010

Rahm Emanuel cynically said, "You never want a crisis to go to waste." It is now becoming clear that the crisis he was referring to is Barack Obama's presidency.

Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he's doing. He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis and social chaos -- thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within.

Barack Obama is my college classmate (Columbia University, class of '83). As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one, Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Columbia University. They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands. Add up the clues below. Taken individually they're alarming. Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival ... and can be counted on to always vote for bigger government. Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.

Force the Senate to End the UNLIMITED Obamacare Slush Fund

Sign the Petition Force the Senate to End the UNLIMITED Obamacare Slush Fund

I urge the Senate to vote immediately on H.R. 1213, a bill to eliminate the massive, open-ended Obamacare slush fund for state-based exchange grants.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is already using this UNLIMITED slush fund to seduce states into collaborating in the implementation of Obamacare.

Dr. Donald Berwick, the chief administrator of Medicare and Medicaid, has hinted at plans to tap this completely uncapped source of funding to bail out state governments, who are experiencing exploding Medicaid spending.

The Congressional Research Service has confirmed that this fund is open-ended and requires no further action by Congress to be tapped by the Obama Administration.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates H.R.1213 would save taxpayers about $14 billion over the next 10 years; but this is only a guess on their part -- the savings could be much, much more -- because the slush fund is not subject to any controls or meaningful limits.

Under our Constitution, only Congress has the power of the purse.  Obamacare's creation of an open-ended slush fund ("indefinite appropriation") for state-based exchange grants was a dangerous and irresponsible delegation of money and power to the President.  It must be repealed as quickly as possible.

Hold a vote on H.R.1213 now!

National Day Of Prayer

Today is the 60th Annual National Day of Prayer. Events marking the occasion will be held all over the country. I was honored to be the keynote speaker at a prayer breakfast in Adrian, Michigan.

This year's theme is "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," based on Psalm 91:2: "I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Whom I trust.'" Shirley Dobson serves as Chairman of the National Day of Prayer. Joni Eareckson Tada delivered the keynote address to this year's national observance held on Capitol Hill.

As in previous years, President Obama refused to host events at the White House. (I know the president was in New York this morning, but the Obama's will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo reception at the White House this evening.) Last year, as you may recall, a political appointee disinvited Franklin Graham from an event at the Pentagon because Graham had been critical of radical Islam. Graham went to the Pentagon anyway. He stood in the parking lot and prayed for our men and women in uniform, including his son who has served in several tours in Afghanistan.

This year's events are particularly special because a year ago a federal judge declared the National Day of Prayer unconstitutional. Last month, an appeals court unanimously reversed that ridiculous decision. This legal battle is yet another reminder that men and women of faith must remain vigilant in defense of our values. We must pray as if everything depends upon God, and we must act as if everything depends upon us.

"It's The Economy, Stupid"

Twenty years ago, a relatively unknown Democrat governor from Arkansas seized on that pithy phrase in his bid to take on a Republican president who seemed unbeatable after leading the nation to a terrific victory in the Gulf War. That phrase may come back to haunt the current occupant of the White House.

Several days removed from the death of Osama bin Laden, there is now a plethora of polling data available to gauge the size of President Obama's "bin Laden bounce," as some in the media have called it. Looking at the data from four major polling outfits -- the Washington Post, the CBS/New York Times, Quinnipiac University and Rasmussen Reports -- all found what everyone expected: President Obama did get a bounce in his overall approval rating.

Obama's approval bounce varied -- from a high of 11 points in the CBS/New York Times poll to a low of 4 points in the Rasmussen poll. The average increase among all four polls was 7.5 points. But it would be a mistake to treat all polls equally.

For example, the polls which showed the greatest increase in support for President Obama -- CBS/New York Times (11 points) and the Washington Post (9 points) -- polled only adults, which tends to skew results to the left. Quinnipiac University polled registered voters and found that Obama gained a more modest 6 points in support.

But among the likely voters polled by Rasmussen, Obama gained just 4 points compared to one month ago. The difference between adults and likely voters is important because what matters most in attempting to predict the results of future elections is knowing who will most likely show up on Election Day.

The dismal economy helps explain why Obama's gains were not greater, and why many pundits predict they may not last long. In the Post poll, just 40% of Americans approved of Obama's handling of the economy. In the Quinnipiac poll, 38% of registered voters approved of Obama's handling of the economy. And, ironically, the CBS/New York Times poll, which gave Obama the biggest bounce, found that his numbers on the economy actually fell from 38% to 34%.

There is no doubt that the American people are thrilled Osama bin Laden is dead. But it is clear that they are also sending another message: "It's the economy, stupid."

Liberal Policies Don't Work

With the national average for a gallon of gas nearing $4.00, House Republicans are bringing legislation to the floor today to force the Obama Administration to end its restrictions on offshore drilling. The GOP bill would direct the administration to start auctions for drilling leases in various locations in the Gulf and off the Atlantic coast "as soon as practicable." To prevent the administration from dragging its feet, the bill also specifies firm deadlines for the auctions depending on their location.

By continuing its anti-drilling policies, the administration is not only preventing job growth and restricting the supply of oil on the world market, it is also giving up billions of dollars in tax revenues, as this article explains.

Democrats have their solution too. They want to raise taxes. In recent days, President Obama has tried to deflect criticism for high gas prices stemming in part from his anti-drilling policies by blaming the oil companies for making money. (Isn't that what companies are supposed to do?) During his weekly radio address, Obama said, "When oil companies are making huge profits and you're struggling at the pump ... these tax giveaways aren't right. ...And we need to end them."

House Democrats plan to force a vote to eliminate $4 billion in tax credits for the energy industry. Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid has promised a similar vote in the Senate. Just to be clear, these "tax giveaways" are the same depreciation and investment credits that other businesses routinely take advantage of. Obama is singling out for punitive tax punishment an industry that is critical to our economic success.

Liberal logic boggles the mind. How does raising taxes do anything to help lower the cost of gasoline? In fact, it is more likely to increase your pain at the pump.

According to Charles Ebinger, director of the Energy Security Initiative at the Brookings Institution, "If you take [the credits] away it's very likely that you'll probably see a fall off in drilling activity." And from Economics 101, we know that when supply decreases, prices increase. Ebinger notes that reduced domestic production "would have to be offset ... with a greater level of imports. Which would be totally against what we say we're taking them [the tax credits] away for."

Taxing Your Odometer Too

Proving just how creative Democrats can be in finding new ways to raise taxes, The Hill reports today that the Obama Administration is seeking support for legislation that would "require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive." This new tax is called a VMT -- vehicle miles traveled tax.

The idea appears to have some support in Congress. The Hill notes that Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND), chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, "has proposed taxing cars by the mile as a way to increase federal highway revenues."

I'm not surprised that liberal Democrats like this new tax. But I suspect most Americans will object to having the government mandate the installation of electronic monitoring devices in all vehicles that would track and tax their every move!

National Association For Gun Rights

The ATF is at it again.

And this time, it's not just shotguns they're after.

The new Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) "rule" would require gun stores to report to the federal government the names of people who purchase more than one rifle in a week.

This new reporting requirement is nothing less than firearm registration in all but name.

The new BATFE rule change has been in place since January. It was trumpeted as a supposed "solution" to the problem with Mexican gun runners on the Southern border, but common sense tells us otherwise.

The BATFE's exact rule states that anyone who purchases more than one rifle that is semi-automatic, larger than .22 caliber, and capable of using detachable magazines within five business days of each other, must be reported.

Although the BATFE claims that this requirement only applies to states along the southern border, the actual published rule has no geographic limitation.

That means they're tracking the sale of shotguns and rifles across the country.

The idea for BATFE's new requirement came from billionaire-playboy Michael Bloomberg's henchmen at Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG). MAIG has been pushing the Obama administration to do this since August of 2009.

Anti-gunner Bloomberg released a statement calling the new rule "...a powerful new tool to catch the straw purchasers and illegal traffickers who are supplying Mexico's cartel killers."

His statement is typical anti-gun misdirection. While the BATFE is regulating guns that Americans buy, their "Gunwalker" program is funneling guns into the hands of the drug cartels in Mexico!

Shortly after the rule came into effect, the U.S. House passed an amendment to block the BATFE's new power grab. This common sense amendment passed overwhelmingly 277-149.

Legislation has also been introduced in the U.S. Senate which would echo the House vote in blocking the ATF's power grab. Solid pro-gun Senators like Rand Paul (R-KY), Tom Coburn (R-OK), and David Vitter (R-LA) are already on board with the legislation.

I need you to be aware of what's going on because the ATF is going to open up a comment period in the future for thoughts on long-gun reporting just like they did on the Shotgun Study last month.

And I know I can count on you to be ready when your voice is needed.

Please call your senator at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to stand up for gun owners by supporting S.570.

We can stop this ridiculous power grab by the ATF, but only if we make ourselves heard loudly.

House passes bill making it easier to drill

In a 266-149 vote that included 33 Democrats in its majority, the House approved a bill that would force the federal government to conduct three lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and one off the Virginia coast within a year, or by June 2012. Lease sales are the first step in a multi-year process that can culminate in drilling.

State of Play: The House will vote Thursday on a GOP-backed bill to expand domestic oil drilling - one of several measures that reflect Republican claims that the White House is stymieing U.S. energy production.

But Democrats hope to turn the vote into a referendum on oil industry tax breaks.

Over Thirty Thousand Illegal Immigrants Spared Deportation

Fellow Patriot,

Last year, the Obama Administration suspended tens of thousands of deportations last year AND Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano lied to a Senate committee to cover up the astounding figure.

Mainstream media sure isn't covering this story.

Surprised?

During a meeting with the Senate Judiciary Committee that has oversight over the Department of Homeland Security, Napolitano reported that her agency halted the deportation of only 900 illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2010. She did admit that the figure could be higher because it excluded "deferred action" grated to illegal immigrated for "humanitarian" reasons.

Of course, Sec. Napolitano never did indicate or give a rough estimate of how much high the figure could be, which may lead us to conclude that she purposely deceived federal lawmakers that the Obama Administration halted the deportation of 34,448 illegal immigrants.

Where'd we get this number? - From Homeland Security figures obtained independently by a Senator (Charles Grassley of Iowa) who sits on the Judiciary Committee.

Blast Fax Congress!

Demand a Congressional Investigation!
Napolitano's outright lie about the real number of deportations halted appears to be a part of the Obama Administration's Secret Amnesty Plan in case Congress passes legislation to legalize the nation's 12 million illegal immigrations. After all, President Obama needs all the votes he can get for re-election in 2012.

Sources have already leaked information about the Amnesty plan devised by Obama's appointees at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) which aims to enact "meaningful immigration reform absent legislative action." In other words, Amnesty by Executive Order or Directive.

Components of the "meaningful immigration reform" strategy already in action include delaying deportation indefinitely ("deferred action"), granting green cards allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S. indefinitely while they seek legal status (known as "parole in place") and expanding the definition of "extreme hardships" so that every illegal immigrant can meet the criteria and remain in the country.

Last summer alone, the Obama Administration ordered authorities to stop removing illegal immigrants who are students buying time for Pro-Amnesty lawmakers to craft legislation to officially protect them from deportation. This move has spared an estimated 700,000 illegal immigrants and their undocumented parents.

So how is the DHS responding? They aren't. The agency has ignored a federal public records request dating back to July 2010.

Will you help us expose the Obama Administration?

We need your support to demand action from Congress to stop the Obama Amnesty Plan in its tracks. It's already wreaking havoc on what little functioning immigration enforcement there is, but WE CAN HOLD WASHINGTON ACCOUNTABLE.

Blast Fax Congress!

Demand a Congressional Investigation!
Patriots, it's up to us to expose the Obama Administration for fraud, deception and violation of the oath to support and defend the Constitution.

We cannot let the Obama Administration's Backdoor Amnesty Plan to gain momentum.

We cannot let one man's power-lust destroy our lives, our families, and our country.

Last year, 34,448 deportations did not occur because of the Obama Administration. With the election just one year away, you can bet that the number of deportations prevented by the Obama Administration will be EVEN HIGHER this year.

We cannot afford to let Obama win the war on illegal immigration or the Presidential Election. And neither can America.

So far, Congress has blocked Obama's freedom crushing plans. But, by abusing the "Executive Order" loop-hole, he can get away with giving illegal aliens a free pass into our country without even going to Congress first.

And without your help now, along with the help of thousands of other vigilant and informed citizen voters, Congress won't act to defend the integrity of American citizenship. Contrary to what they might believe, the truth is this: Congress works for us. And we won't rest until they're WORKING HARD to stop Obama's assault on our Constitution.

Your CITIZENS PETITION FORM
 will urge Congress to:

  1. EXPOSE Obama's planned use of his Executive powers to give Amnesty to over 20 million illegals.
  2. PUBLICLY DENOUNCE Obama's back door immigration plans that threaten our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and our institutions of ordered liberty.
  3. LEAD A BATTLE in Congress to void each and every pro-illegal immigration Executive Order and Directive that Barack Obama issues.

Obama has already directed the Department of Homeland Security to enact an AMNESTY program. U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has circulated a shocking Memorandum defining the details of the DHS plan to circumvent Congressional Authorization.

Unless you and I compel Congress to act TODAY, Amnesty for illegals will soon be Executive Ordered by Barack Obama.

Help us mobilize common sense, patriotic Americans against this travesty! The Obama Administration's plan for mass Amnesty MUST BE STOPPED!!

Thanks to Americans like you, who care about the safety and future of our country, there is mounting pressure to stop Obama. But it will take the lead of an emboldened Senate to turn up the pressure. THEY MUST HEAR LOUDLY FROM PATRIOTS LIKE YOU!

That's why I'm counting on you to sign your CITIZENS PETITION FORM
...

...And if you can afford it, please generously give a contribution of $20, $30, $50, $100 or more to Minuteman PAC to get this word out to your fellow Americans!

In fact, my staff has estimated it could take a minimum of 1 to 2 MILLION Injunctions to have a real impact on Capitol Hill.

And, at roughly 36 cents apiece, it will cost us more than $355,000 to distribute and deliver this minimum amount.

What's more, we will need funds above and beyond this amount to help make our case on radio, TV, in newspapers and on the Internet.

But the threat is very real, and we MUST ACT.

So please sign your CITIZENS PETITION FORM
 today!

For America,

Minuteman PAC

P.S. Please, remember what is at stake - the security, the safety, the sovereignty, the prosperity - very possibly the very survival of not just Americans along our increasingly embattled border, but America herself. BLAST FAX CONGRESS TODAY!

Jobless claims jump points to slowing recovery

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans filing for jobless aid rose to an eight-month high last week and productivity growth slowed in the first quarter, clouding the outlook for an economy that is struggling to gain speed.

While the surprise jump in initial claims for unemployment benefits was blamed on factors ranging from spring break layoffs to the introduction of an emergency benefits program, economists said it corroborated reports this week indicating a loss of momentum in job creation.

It's pretty clear someone in the ethanol industry has done some polling and whip counts on Tom Coburn's bill to eliminate the ethanol tax credit. The ethanol industry and it's congressional patrons, led by Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley, have proposed a bill to slash the federal tax credit for blending ethanol in with gasoline.

As gas prices rise, Senatorial opposition to American oil production is indefensible.

Take Action: Get Your Senators on the Record

For years, dozens of US Senators have opposed increasing America's oil production. Declining domestic oil production is one factor in the skyrocketing gasoline prices facing Americans.

The US House is doing its part. Now is the time to push those Senators to reconsider their stances: how high will gas prices rise before they consider allowing more domestic oil production? $5 a gallon? $6 a gallon?

You sent them to Washington to work in America's best interest, now it's time to hold them accountable. Here's how:

  1. Call your Senators and ask: how high do gas prices need to get before they'll rethink their opposition to increased oil production?
  2. Report your results on our website. We will maintain an up-to-date list of Senators' stances.
  3. Share the intel you've gathered with your fellow conservatives to spread the word about Washington's indefensible opposition to American oil production.

Take the first step: call your Senators and ask them when they'll support more American oil production.

Together, we can hold Congress accountable.

Thanks for taking action,

Obama's Anti-Energy Policies Are Bankrupting America

Randall Stilley has witnessed firsthand the Obama administration's job-killing agenda. As the president and chief executive of Seahawk Drilling, he had to lay off 632 employees before filing for bankruptcy -- a direct result of President Barack Obama's anti-energy policies.

Stilley's company owned and operated 20 shallow-water rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. The lack of energy production -- a consequence of Obama's drilling moratorium and subsequent "permitorium" -- led to Seahawk's demise. Now he's speaking out, sharing Seahawk's story in a new video from Heritage and the Institute for Energy Research. (Click to watch.)

A handful of GOP presidential hopefuls will debate tonight in Greenville, S.C. There will be no Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich; nor Mitch Daniels, Michele Bachmann or Jon Huntsman; nor Sarah Palin, Chris Christie or Mike Huckabee; nor Donald Trump.
But there is still plenty we can learn from tonight's debate:
        # Can Pawlenty, a two-term governor of Minnesota who remains somewhat unknown but seems to be gaining momentum, shine bright enough on a small stage to give us reason to think he'd shine on a bigger stage?
        # Can Cain, the former Atlanta radio host and businessman who's still pretty much a political novice, make the same kind of splash he seems to have been making on smaller ones?
        # Will Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, or Paul, the longtime Texas congressman, come across as the most viable (little-L) libertarian in a Republican race?
        # Can Santorum, the former congressman and U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, come across as anything other than a candidate trying to keep social issues on the table in this primary?
         # Will any of these candidates offer something new on fiscal policy that breaks with the default GOP policy -- Rep. Paul Ryan's "Path to Prosperity" -- or will they be content for now to ride with the peloton? [AJC.com, May 5]

First Debate

Republicans

Photo of Representative Ron PaulPhoto of former Governor Gary Johnson

When Fox News and the South Carolina GOP hold the first Republican presidential debate Thursday, two of the five participants will be libertarian-leaning Republicans: Congressman Ron Paul and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson.
Paul and Johnson generally agree on the issues, championing civil liberties and the idea that government has grown far too big, is involved in far too many things, and does most of them poorly.
Both favor drastic cuts in government spending, lowering taxes, repealing last year's healthcare reform legislation, eliminating the Department of Education and both also oppose legislation defining marriage as between a man and woman
They oppose the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, U.S. involvement in Libya, the War on Drugs, the Patriot Act and the border fence.
But the pair parts ways on abortion. Paul opposes it, believing that life begins at conception. Johnson supports a woman's right to choose, though he opposes government funding to support abortion.
The presence of two GOP candidates with such similar philosophies has prompted the libertarian blogosphere to question which man to support.

States ask
US court
to overturn health overhaul

The motion, filed on behalf of 26 states, urges the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta to uphold a Florida federal judge's ruling that the overhaul's core requirement is unconstitutional. The judge, U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson, said Congress cannot require nearly all Americans to carry health insurance.
The states argued the law would set a precedent that "would imperil individual liberty, render Congress's other enumerated powers superfluous, and allow Congress to usurp the general police power reserved to the states."
So far, three federal judges, all Democratic appointees, have upheld the law. Vinson and the Virginia judge, both Republicans appointees, ruled against it. It seems certain that it will be resolved by the nation's top court, and Vinson suggested in a March ruling that the "Supreme Court may eventually be split on this issue as well."
The Justice Department appealed Vinson's ruling, arguing that Congress had the power to require most people to buy health insurance or face tax penalties because Congress has the authority to regulate interstate business. [GOPUSA, May 4]

Two Firefighters Dead, Over Two Million Acres Burned, 400 Homes Destroyed. . . But It's Not A 'Disaster.'

The Blaze | by Mike Opelka | Posted on May 5, 2011 at 9:49pm

Imagine the response from the Federal government if the entire state of Maryland, all of it, was engulfed in a gigantic, uncontrolled wildfire. And the next week, all of Rhode Island was burned to a crisp... More than two million acres of land burned, 400 homes destroyed and at least two firefighters lost their lives trying to stop the worst wildfires in almost one hundred years.

Do you think the President would be visiting the area, declaring it a 'disaster' and providing truckloads of aid and support? Of course he would.

But this is not about Maryland or Rhode Island. This is about the state of Texas. Since January, Texas has been experiencing a drought like nothing they have seen in a century. The lack of rain and dry brush have created ideal conditions for wildfires. And the state has not really hit the peak of 'wildfire season.'

The current details on the Texas Wildfires:

  • Two firefighters have died battling the wildfires
  • 2.2 million acres burned in over 7000 different fires
  • 400+ homes destroyed

Governor Rick Perry has requested that the state be declared a Federal disaster area, which would allow them to access needed financial assistance. This request was first delayed and then denied.

Photo op: Obama @ Ground Zero

President Obama visits Ground Zero today for a ceremony just days after the world's #1 most wanted terrorist was finally killed after a brief meeting with some U.S. Navy SEALs. President Bush declined an invitation to attend the event, but perhaps even more telling is the fact that Bill Clinton reportedly turned down an invite to attend as well. Is this event so blatantly political grandstanding that even Bill Clinton wants to keep his mug away from the cameras? Why is Obama only going to Ground Zero after he got bin Laden? Glenn explains on radio today

USS Michael Murphy: Ship named after Navy SEAL

It's not very common for a United States warship to be named after a Navy SEAL. But it's also not very common to meet a man like Michael Murphy. He was the squad leader of a small SEAL assault team (which included Marcus Luttrell) that found themselves vastly outnumbered and trapped in the mountains of Afghanistan back in 2005. Luttrell was the only one who survived - he was eventually saved in large part due to Lt. Murphy's heroic call for help, a call that cost him his life. Murphy was recognized with the Medal of Honor for his actions. Glenn has more on radio today.

ABC News religion correspondent: Can't judge if bin Laden was evil or not

Bill O'Reilly interviewed Father Edward Beck (no relation) and the pair got into a heated discussion (believe it or not) about whether bin Laden was evil or not. The ABC correspondent argues that it's not up to him to judge who is evil and who is not. Well, it seems fairly obvious to most people on the planet that Osama bin Laden is evil. But, that's not enough to convince the definitely-not-related-to-Glenn guest on Bill O'Reilly this week. Check out the interview and Glenn's reaction HERE.

Is it ok to gloat about bin Laden's death? Where does satisfaction end and gloating begin? Get the story from The Blaze. Stu makes his final ruling HERE.

Why aren't Obama's poll #'s climbing?

Glenn believes the death of Osama bin Laden is one of the defining moments of our lifetimes, possibly even bigger than when Adolf Hitler was killed. The President widely gets credit for his role in the killing of America's enemy #1, and yet polls are showing his numbers have gone anywhere from 0-10 points higher. Other Presidents' polling numbers have skyrocketed for similar and even lesser events - so what's happening with Obama? Glenn explains on radio today.

Glenn to keynote "Christians United for Israel" event: This July Glenn will be the keynote speaker at the "Night to Honor Israel Banquet" in Washington DC. To register and to get more information about the event click HERE

PLUS: Check out Glenn's conversation on radio today with Pastor John Hagee: WATCH.

Are we a capitalist nation?

Many on the left argue that capitalism has failed - but is America really a capitalist nation? Glenn takes a look at the Fortune 500 top companies in the country and the list may be shocking, especially to big corporation hating libs. If the left is all about attacking big business - why is it that the companies they are in bed with are all closely involved (through bailouts, etc) with the Federal Government? Can we call ourselves a Capitalist nation? Glenn answers on radio today.

Lib Radio host: Get the Navy SEALS to drop in on Bush

Glenn plays the oh so fun, 'what would have happened if I said it!' game on radio today. A liberal talk radio host said bombings and wars will never stop until capitalism is destroyed. He also says George W. Bush is responsible for more deaths than bin Laden, therefore 'SEAL unit 6, or whatever it's called' should drop in and pay Bush a visit. If Glenn said that he'd be off the air - perhaps no one is going after this host because he is essentially already off the air as it is...but the hypocrisy is none the less stunning.
