Quote:
"In observations on this subject, we hear the legislature mentioned as the people's representatives. The distinction, intimated by concealed implication, through probably, not avowed upon reflection, is, that the executive and judicial powers are not connected with the people by a relation so strong or near or dear. But is high time that we should chastise our prejudices; and that we should look upon the different parts of government with a just and impartial eye."

Toomey: We don't have to raise the debt ceiling
posted at 2:15 pm on April 22, 2011 by Ed Morrissey
If one new member of Congress might be expected to take a firm stand against further government borrowing, it would be former Club for Growth chair Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA). Toomey fought two Senate campaigns on the issue of fiscal responsibility, winning the second handily in 2010, and brings fiscal-conservative activism to a Congress sorely in need of it. Furthermore, the ground on this issue favors the deficit hawks, as most Americans simply aren't buying the hysterics about global collapse coming from a White House led by a man who voted against a debt-ceiling increase himself in 2006.

Noted Climate Change Expert Steve Goreham to Visit Bucks County
Steve Goreham to Discuss Climate Change and Renewable Energy
Doylestown, PA: Steve Goreham, Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America, and noted author and speaker comes to Bucks County to discuss some of the common myths about climate change and renewable energy. "The governments of the world have adopted Climatism and discarded reality. Acres of solar cells sit idle at night and on cloudy days. Thousands of 300-foot-high wind towers interrupt the vistas of coastline, field, and hill, standing motionless for two-thirds of their existence. Billions of dollars in government subsidies are spent each year to fund solar, wind, and biofuel industries, which could not compete and would not exist without these subsidies. Yet, these renewable sources supply only a pitifully small amount of the world's energy needs.", says Goreham.
When: Thursday, April 28th, 2011, 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Who: Steve Goreham, Author, "Climatism", from the Climate Science Coalition of America
Where: Doylestown Moose Lodge, Oscar Martin Room
127 East State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901
What: Author's presentation and book-signing, hosted by The Kitchen Table Patriots
About Steve Goreham: Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America, a non-political association of scientists, engineers, and energy experts dedicated to educating Americans about realistic climate science. Goreham , is an engineer, an author, researcher, and speaker on the topic of climate change. He holds a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

WE CAN'T GET RID OF THIS GUY - READ THIS:
Patrick Murphy's announcement letter to supporters.
From: patrick@murphyforpa.com To: Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2011 13:48:33 -0400 Subject: Our Next Fight
Dear Friend, Right now I'm emailing you from the Patrick Ward Memorial, in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia. I'm actually named after Patrick Ward. He was a helicopter gunner in Vietnam who was killed in action. He was also my mom's best friend. Growing up, my parents pointed to Patrick Ward as the example of service and sacrifice. His life was dedicated to protecting others. So when I decided I would run for Attorney General of Pennsylvania I knew I would make my announcement here. I also wanted to make the announcement standing with my family. My father was a police officer in this city for 22 years. His dedication to law enforcement inspired me to go to law school and later serve as a prosecutor. My mom, who grew up down the street, taught me the importance of family and hard-work. And my wife Jenni, my daughter Maggie, and my little boy Jack are here supporting me, too. They are a constant reminder of why we fight so hard. My path to this day started when I signed up for the Army ROTC program in 1993. After law school, I joined active duty, where I served as a prosecutor. Later I was asked to join the faculty at West Point, where I taught cadets Constitutional Law. After 9/11, I volunteered for overseas deployment. I went first to Bosnia, and then to Baghdad. In Iraq I served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and prosecuted terrorists bent on murdering Americans. After I returned home, I ran for Congress. There I fought to crack down on fraud, abuse, and waste, for equality, and to give law enforcement the tools they need to fight crime. Today we start a new campaign together. I am running for Attorney General because the people of Pennsylvania deserve an advocate. They deserve an Attorney General who will combat crime wherever it exists - on the streets, in corporate boardrooms, or in Harrisburg. With your help, I will be that Attorney General. Over the next few weeks and months we'll continue to build our campaign across the state. This race will surely be tough. But when we fight together, we're pretty tough to beat. With your help, we'll get this done. Stay tuned to our website for updates, and thank you as always for your incredible friendship and support,

An absolutely must read interview by Isi Leibler April 23, 2011 http://wordfromjerusalem.com/?p=2919

As a rule I restrict my website to my own columns and blogs and refrain from circulating other material. However, I am making an exception and incorporating an extraordinarily important interview which appeared in this weekend's Jerusalem Post.
For those of you who have not seen it, the lengthy (10,000 word) interview conducted by the editor, David Horovitz, with Professor Asa Kasher is absolutely compulsory reading for anyone seeking an understanding of the standard of morality under which the IDF operates.
Kasher, who teaches philosophy at Tel Aviv University, co-authored the first IDF Code of Ethics. The interviewer, David Horovitz, assumes the role of the devil's advocate and skillfully leads Kasher to respond to questions impinging on the blood libels and condemnations of alleged IDF behavior during the Gaza war upon which the Goldstone Report was based,...

From Richard Baehr:
The Responsibility to Protect doctrine, Samantha Power's justification for entering the conflict in Libya, has been largely absent so far from any discussion of what to do about Syria. Government forces (apparently acting on recommendations from Iranian advisors sent to help Assad stay in power) shot and killed over 100 people Friday, and fired machine guns into funerals of dissidents yesterday. Today they are entering homes and arresting protestors . Recall that Hillary Clinton, a few weeks back, said Assad was a reformer, and the Administration encouraged him to continue with his reforms. This does not seem to be advice that is being heeded. The regime seems to prefer blowing people's brains out, and submission. It would be hard to argue that Libya has more strategic importance to the West and the U.S. than Syria, which has funneled weapons to Hezbollah and Hamas, interfered for years in Lebanon, and aligned itself politically with Iran, despite decades of U..S. engagement. Our troops are engaged in three wars, unemployment remains close to 9%, the economy is slowing (projected growth rates have been adjusted lower by many economists in recent weeks), gas prices are at an all time high, and yet, the President had a good week. Or to put it more precisely, he had a good fundraising week. It is 19 months before the election, and the President is doing what he does best- campaign and fundraise for the one job that really matters to him.

War In Syria Next?
Walter Russell Mead
The long-brewing crisis in Syria has entered a critical phase and it is changing the rules of the Middle East. If the people keep marching and the regime keeps shooting, the Obama administration could face its toughest Middle East choices yet. Will Samantha Power bomb yet another country in the region, or will she try to sleep nights with the blood of thousands of Syrians on her hands?

Two days ago, Matt Drudge linked to a new book by Jerome Corsi, unflinchingly titled Where's the Birth Certificate? The book immediately leapt to number one on Amazon.com, where it has remained ever since. The media has shown its usual incredulity at the indisputable stupidity of the American people. How could so many people question President Obama's birthplace? How could they wonder about his origins? Are they all simply racist?
The answer, of course, is that Americans are desperately seeking an answer to a simple question: why does President Obama appear to be so un-American? The term un-American here is not synonymous with anti-American (though Obama has been that on occasion); instead, it merely signifies that President Obama is unconcerned with typical American principles and traditions. He sees capitalism as selfish and evil, religion as dangerous and oppressive; he sees the Constitution as antiquated and entrepreneurialism as exploitative. He is the representative of the Fareed Zakaria ideology at work, celebrating the post-American world.

To: Friends & Supporters
From: Gary L. Bauer
The following message was published yesterday at the The Weekly Stardard website. On Good Friday, as we ponder the sacrifice made for us, let us not forget those who are sacrificing so much for their faith today. Carol and I wish you and your family a blessed Easter.
A Lenten Prayer for Middle East Christians
As we look ahead to Easter -- Christianity's greatest feast day, and the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead -- there is much to pray for. We pray for those affected by economic strife, and those harmed by natural disasters and war. But let's not forget the Christians suffering around the world for their beliefs.
In Ethiopia last month, Muslim extremists torched dozens of Christian churches and homes, displacing thousands, in retaliation for two Christians who were accused of desecrating a Koran.
A Muslim mob attacked a Christian church in Hyderabad, Pakistan, killing two Christians and burning copies of the Bible in retaliation for Florida pastor Terry Jones's threats to burn the Koran.
Just before Lent, Shahbaz Bhatti, Pakistan's sole Christian government minister, was gunned down for opposing Pakistan's harsh blasphemy law, which outlaws criticism of Islam. Bhatti became the second Pakistani politician in two months killed over the law.
In Saudi Arabia, two Indian nationals have been languishing in prison since January for praying publicly. The two Christians were reportedly beaten while in police custody and pressed to convert to Islam.
These incidents are hardly exceptional. In 2009, the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found, in a first of its kind survey, that 70 percent of the world's population lives in countries that severely restrict religious freedom.
This is especially true in much of the Middle East, where many of the countries are among the world's most egregious violators of basic human rights, including religious freedom, free speech, and judicial accountability. In this region, converts from Islam, and speech against that religion, frequently face death or incarceration. And state-sponsored extremist ideology is pervasive in the education systems of many of these countries.
Many Westerners remain scandalously uninformed of what's happening. The Western media often couch anti-Christian violence as sectarian strife between Christians and Muslims.
The Obama administration has neglected Christian persecution, choosing instead to pursue a "partnership" and "broader engagement based upon mutual interest and mutual respect" with what the president and much of the media often refer to as the "Muslim world."
But that term -- "Muslim world" -- is a misnomer. It serves only to reinforce the idea that Christians do not belong in the Middle East. As we know from the Bible, however, Christianity was born in the Middle East and predates Islam there by 700 years.
Christians flourished in the Middle East as recently as a century ago, when they made up close to 20 percent of the population. Today, they comprise less than five percent of the region -- a share that's seemingly ever decreasing.
Half of the Christians in Iraq (where Noah built his ark, Daniel entered the lion's den and the wise men set out on their journey to pay homage to a newborn King) have fled over the last decade.
In Jordan (where Christ was baptized), Christians have dropped from 30 percent of the population in the 1950s to less than two percent today. Christian representation in Lebanon (mentioned 71 times in the Old Testament) has plummeted from 60 percent to 25 percent over a generation. Though some have left for economic reasons, most departing Christians have fled because they fear for their lives.
Some world leaders have assessed the situation with chilling candor. France's Nicolas Sarkozy has labeled Middle East Christians victims of "religious cleansing." In 2009, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Baghdad said, "I fear the extinction of Christianity in Iraq and the Middle East." Pope Benedict XVI has said that the region's Christians are experiencing an "authentic martyrdom."
Lent is a time of prayer, almsgiving, repentance, abstinence, and fasting. It is a time when Christians are invited to suffer as Christ suffered during His 40 days in the wilderness and the events of His passion.
For many of the world's more than two billion Christians, Lenten suffering entails abstaining from meat on Fridays or some other small privation. But for Christians across much of the Middle East and North Africa, this Lent coincides with a level of suffering unseen since the early days of the Church.

ISRAELI POLITICAL-LEFT AIDS PALESTINIANS
By: Joseph Puder
At a time when Israel is being de-legitimized and vilified throughout the world primarily by the international media, and while Palestinian leaders, Mahmoud Abbas and Salam Fayyad, are turning to the U.N. General Assembly for recognition in order to avoid direct negotiations with Israel; leading left-wing intellectuals, including some Israel Prize laureates, rallied in support of a Palestinian state in Tel Aviv on April 21, 2011 outside of the historic Independence Hall where David Ben Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister, proclaimed the establishment of a Jewish State on May 14, 1948.
The declaration read by actress Hannah Maronstated that, "We have gathered here today, on April 21, 2011, to welcome the expected declaration of independence of the Palestinian state, Israel's neighbor, with our borders of independence - which came into being at the end of the War of Independence in 1949 - the borders known as the '67 borders." The document drafted by the left-wing activists goes on to say, "The independence of both states strengthens each other. It is a moral and existential need and the basis for the possibility of good neighborly relations. We call on the citizens of Israel, the Knesset, the government, citizens of the world and their governments to recognize two states, in which the right to self-definition must be expressed by both peoples as well as the general principles of democracy and equality."
In their zeal to appease the Palestinians these left-wing activists forgot to note the obligation the Palestinians have to recognize the Jewish State; end the teaching of hate for Jews and Israel; eliminate the terrorist infrastructure that targets Israeli-Jews. Most recently five members of the Fogel family were brutally murdered by two young Palestinians, ages 18 and 19 who, when captured were not only unremorseful but told the authorities that if they had seen the other two sleeping children in the home they would have slit their throats also. One is reminded of the words of Hillel, the rabbinic sage - "If I am not for myself who will be for me..." These intellectuals have yet to absorb the message.
While the media may try to use this declaration as an indicator of the pulse of the nation of Israel, in truth, the vast majority oppose the idea of a two-state solution at this time in history. Israelis are not buying into the rosy notion that Palestinians and Israelis will live side by side in peace. The Israeli public lives with the consequences of the failed Oslo Accords which facilitated Yasser Arafat's return from Tunis to Gaza, and resulted in Israel evacuating its forces from West Bank cities so that the newly structured Palestinian Authority might run the affairs of the Palestinian people. And, it is the Israeli public who readily recalls the center-left Labor party of Itzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres - architects of Oslo - that continued negotiating with Arafat while his hateful incitement led the Palestinians to increase their attacks against Israelis.
The left further overlooks the concessions Prime Minister Barak made to Arafat during the July 2000 Camp David Summit, whereby Israel supported the establishment of Palestinian State on 97% of the administered territories of the West Bank and Gaza in exchange for Arafat's "end of conflict" declaration and Arafat's deadly response - the launching of the Second Intifada.
To refresh the memory of Israel's leftist intellectuals, it is worth pointing out that it was the Arabs and not the Jews (who were then called Palestinians) who rejected the 1937 British Peel Commission recommendation to split Palestine into a Jewish and Arab state. The Arabs subsequently rejected the United Nations Partition Plan of 1947 and, aided by the armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia invaded the newly founded Jewish state.
Today, 64 years later, the Palestinian-Arabs, by refusing to recognize the existence of the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland, are clearly rejecting the formula of "Two-States for Two Peoples."
The left, in their frustration, do not recognize Arab intransigence as the problem. Rather, they beat their collective breasts in "shame" and believe that declarations which call for Israeli concessions and which call for an end to the "occupation" will satisfy the Arabs.
Palestinians reading the press accounts of the rally and of the declaration must have doubled over in laughter at the naiveté, if not the stupidity, of these "useful idiots" who tell the world that Israel is to blame for the absence of a solution. Instead of rightfully exposing the truth about Palestinian rejection of every offer made by Israel and the world, the leftists have chosen to curry favor with the Palestinians and with the fashionable salons of European intellectuals by trashing their own people. Frankly, it is as simple as this: the vast majority of Israeli-Jews recognize Palestinian rights to self-determination while most of the Palestinian population and especially their leaders reject Jewish rights of self determination in the land of Israel.
Despite the far-reaching concessions of 1937, 1947, 1993, 2000 the Palestinians keep rejecting any kind of territorial compromise. And, it is understood that their back-up plan for rejection of another offered plan is the "right of return" - a demographic tactic to eliminate the Jewish State. The "armed struggle" continues - as promulgated in the PLO Covenant (which remains unchanged) and the Hamas Charter. Israel's complete withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 and the transfer of 9000 Jewish residents has not brought peace - but rather a continued barrage of missiles on civilians living in southern Israel.
What is clear to anyone seeking the truth is that for most Palestinians the term "occupation" applies not only to the West Bank (known also by the biblical name of Judea and Samaria), but to all of Israel. And equally clear is that Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas), who refuses to recognize Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people is no less intransigent than Hamas is - though the PA leader is recognized as "moderate" while Islamist Hamas leaders are regarded as terrorists.
The leftist intellectual signers of the April 21, 2011 declaration did not answer such basic questions as who will partner with them to make peace between Israeli Jews and Palestinian-Arabs. Will it be Hamas, whose rules in Gaza will not make peace unless the Jewish state disappears, or Abu Mazen who is unable to control Gaza, and has little credibility among all Palestinians? And, practically speaking, can Israel return to the June 4, 1967 boundaries?
The beseeching of the leftist intellectuals reveals their naïveté and further exposes Israel to contempt and vilification by the world community. To quote Winston Churchill, "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last." The Palestinian crocodile might eat them last, but they will be eaten nonetheless.

Confused visitors will be forgiven for thinking Oregon State University is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Congressman Pete DeFazio and the "progressive-socialist" wing of the Democratic Party. Or for likening what's going on there to political retribution as practiced in Third World thugocracies.
The idea that three outstanding students - PhD candidates at OSU - could face dismissal, and worse, shortly before receiving their degrees, is simply shocking. That this could be happening because their father had the temerity to challenge an entrenched 12-term Democratic congressman (and OSU earmark purveyor) could make people think the university is in Zimbabwe, not America. If you think Eric Holder will prosecute black on white crime, think again.
Violence in another Mc Donalds almost kills customer
Here is another fine example of the trend of violence in fast food restaurants. Two black females beating the hell out of a white patron, while several black employees stand by and watch. One black male manages to provide the facade of assistance to the white victim in this brutal attack.
The two black females exit, then re-enter the store to continue the beating, until an older white woman attempts to stop them from dragging the white victim outside into the parking lot. note: the black male employees have disappeared from camera view, even though they are plenty well capable of stopping the attack.
At the end, the white victim is beaten until she has a seizure, at which point the camera operator warns the black female attackers to flee, because the police are on the way. Note: he makes sure to repeatedly tell the criminal attackers to flee, instead of keeping them there for the police to apprehend.

Hand Book Shows ICNA's True Goals

The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is preaching a global Caliphate and Islamic Shari'a law over America to its members, according to the 2010 ICNA Member's Hand Book. This is a very different message than the group's public outreach efforts, and contradicts claims that the organization is a tolerant, mainstream Islamic group.
As the hand book spells out, the organization's ultimate goal is "the Establishment of Islam" as the sole basis of global society and governance. It also encourages members to deceive people in its proselytizing campaign to help fulfill this goal. http://www.investigativeproject.org/2373/hand-book-shows-icna-true-goals
This aim is one that ICNA has been actively pursuing as the group has set its sights on America's constitutional separation of religion and state Read more at: http://www.investigativeproject.org/2373/hand-book-shows-icna-true-goals

Christian pilgrims fill Jerusalem for Good Friday
By MATTI FRIEDMAN, Associated Press Matti Friedman, Associated Press -
JERUSALEM - Christian pilgrims filled the cobblestone alleyways of old Jerusalem to mark Good Friday, commemorating Jesus' crucifixion in the city two millennia ago.
Thousands of international visitors and local Christians retraced Jesus' last steps down the Via Dolorosa, which is Latin for "Way of Suffering."
The route ends at the ancient Church of the Holy Sepulcher, revered as the site of Jesus' crucifixion, burial and his resurrection two days later on Easter Sunday.
"All my life I've been waiting for this wish - I've been wishing for one day to come here in Jerusalem to worship. I wanted to step where my lord stepped," said Roshan Futsom, a pilgrim from Toronto, Canada.

The current administration continues to demonstrate its credentials as socialist/fascist wannabees. Your friends or neighbors might feel "It's no skin off my nose" what happens to a rich company like Boeing. If so, then they fail to grasp that threats like this threaten the freedoms of every American. The past century showed us what happens when authoritarian governments hold sway over companies, individuals and the economy. Now we're seeing attempts to repeat the heavy-handed policies that demolished freedom in other countries. And I see the connection between this kind of stuff and the fact that our young people are not taught much history.
Because I operate a business/industrial marketing firm, I learn first-hand about arrogant and arbitrary government regulations that affect a company's ability to operate. One company owner I know is now anxious to sell his business just to get away from it all. Other companies will decide to move overseas, to follow their customers who have also fled, or sell out to a larger firm - which suits socialists just fine, because fewer and larger companies can be controlled more efficiently.
Do not get 'tired' - the threats are real, and we Tea Parties are needed more than ever.

Federal labor board seeks to ground Boeing
Can federal bureaucrats tell a private company where to build a factory?
Members of President Obama's National Labor Relations Board think they can. In a decision that even the New York Times is describing as "highly unusual for the federal government," Lafe Solomon, who was appointed to the board by Obama, filed a complaint on behalf of the NLRB on Wednesday seeking to force the Boeing Co. to build an assembly line in Washington state instead of South Carolina. The NLRB action stems from Boeing's October 2009 decision to build a new factory for its new 787 Dreamliner airplane near Charleston, S.C. Boeing first sought to build the new plant near its existing facility in Puget Sound, but negotiations with the International Association of Machinists broke down when the union refused to agree to a long-term no-strike clause. The IAM had struck four times since 1989, costing Boeing at least $1.8 billion in revenue.
That's when Boeing chose South Carolina, a right-to-work state where, unlike Washington, workers are not forced to join unions.

On Earth Day, Let Congress Know What They Can Do to End Explosive Population Growth |
Today is the 41st Earth Day (read Roy's new blog), and yet Congress continues to ignore the recommendations of President Clinton's Task Force on Susainability and pass legislation that would reduce the negative environmnental impacts of our current numerical immigration policy.
Our "Spring Into Action 2011" campaign is attempting to bring awareness of immigration's impact on population growth, jobless Americans, and federal, state and local budgets to the local Congressional districts. We've had hundreds of you make visits to local offices this week, while also sending 104,891 faxes into local district offices this week alone!
If you're not familiar with our "Spring Into Action" campaign, our goal is to educate Members of Congress on the immigration issue while in their districts for the Spring Recess. The most important type of activism you can do is to talk with your elected officials in person. Faxes and phone calls are important too, but nothing leaves a lasting impression on an elected official than one of his/her constituents discussing the issue in a face-to-face setting.
If you've checked yourAction Board over the last week, some of you may have noticed "meeting" notes posted to your board. When we learn of Town Hall meetings or other public appearances, we're trying to get a note up as fast as possible, but many Members of Congress are hiding during this two-week recess and not providing opportunities to meet with constituents. So don't be alarmed if you haven't seen a meeting note this week. You can still drop by one of the district offices and speak with someone from the Member's staff if they're not holding a public forum.
If you're looking for talking points, we've posted an info note on your Action Board with some suggestions, but please keep in mind you'll have to customize these for your particular House Member of U.S. Senator. If you still have any questions, please feel free to contact a member of our LEAP (Locally Educating and Appearing Personally) Team at stateaction2011@numbersusa.com.
We understand that everyone is busy with the celebration of several religious holidays, Earth Day, school vacations and other things. We're only asking for people to make visits if it fits into your schedule and you live close to a local district office. If you can't visit in person, check your Action Board for faxes you can send.
Thanks, Chris Chmielenski Director, Content & Activism | |

Rapist to get $800,000 heart transplant
Ralph Alter
While the logic supporting Obamacare rests upon the obvious fact that health care costs are too high for Americans and continue to rise, here's a story to help illustrate the bureaucratic thinking that keeps those costs escalating: 13WHAM News has learned that a convicted rapist serving up to 40 years in prison, is being evaluated for a possible heart transplant.
The report goes on to estimate the cost of the procedure at $800,000. The bill, if the procedure is completed, would be paid by New York state taxpayers.

CBO TAKES A FALL FOR THE PRESIDENT:
The Real Facts About the Ryan Plan
BY: BETSY MCCAUGHEY APRIL 22, 2011
Critics of Rep. Paul Ryan's budget proposal are howling that seniors will suffer. A Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report concludes that Mr. Ryan's plan would make seniors "bear a much larger share of their health care costs." (CBO report p. 4) The CBO's statement is false, but it's being repeated in news headlines across the nation. The CBO authors called their analysis of Mr. Ryan's proposal "stylized." Deceptive is more like it.
Don't be bamboozled. Under the Ryan proposal, which was adopted by the House of Representatives last week, Americans who become eligible for Medicare in 2022 or thereafter will be guaranteed a premium paid by the federal government to the private health plan of their choice.
The CBO's own data confirm that the premium paid for each senior (except the wealthy) would be the same dollar amount as what Medicare would otherwise spend directly on their care: $15,000 on average, with more for older seniors, all inflation-adjusted. (p. 23) Premium support is not intended to give seniors less than they will get from Medicare under the Obama health law.
Despite this key fact, the CBO is trying to argue that the premium won't be enough, forcing seniors to dig into their pockets. The CBO claims that private plan costs will rise faster year to year than Medicare costs, becoming unaffordable. "Paying more for health care would be particularly challenging for elderly people with less savings and lower income," the CBO contends. (p. 24)
This is a double flimflam. First, research shows that competing private plans are likely to control costs better than government-run Medicare. A study from the prestigious National Bureau of Economic Research demonstrated that in regions of the United States with competition between private Medicare Advantage plans, the cost of care was reduced January 2008.
Secondly, the Ryan plan offers low-income seniors an additional $7,800 annual medical savings account to help with out-of-pocket expenses, bringing the average benefit for low-income seniors to $22,800 before inflation adjustments. Amazingly, the CBO authors confess omitting this from their calculations. Their dire warning that low-income seniors would suffer is completely baseless. (p. 24)
In truth, only wealthy seniors will have to pay more out of pocket under the Ryan proposal. The top 6 percent of earners among Medicare beneficiaries will get less help with premiums. In the nation's fiscal crisis, this makes sense.
The facts disprove the CBO's much-touted conclusion that under Mr. Ryan's plan, low-income seniors will be denied sufficient Medicare coverage. The CBO once produced reliable, impartial assessments of policy proposals. It's time for Congress to find a new source of honest, independent research.
The choice for Americans under age 55 is not between traditional Medicare and the Ryan proposal. Medicare as we've always known it is gone - eviscerated by President Obama's own health care law.
Even the CBO report confirms that cuts in Medicare payment rates to doctors and hospitals under the Obama health law could limit access to care, as more doctors and hospitals refuse to participate. And when the nation's debt crisis worsens, Medicare benefits will be put on the chopping block. (p. 25) In his April 13 speech, the president predicted that the Independent Payment Advisory Board established by the Obama health law would decide what health services are "unnecessary." Americans in their 40s and 50s will be better off taking premium support and choosing their own health plan when they retire.

Ryan's Plan Will Fix Medicare - Not Destroy It
In his speech to the nation on Wednesday, President Obama joined the chorus of critics howling that Rep. Paul Ryan's federal budget proposal is cruel to seniors and will decimate Medicare as we've known it.
The data show the opposite. Seniors and baby boomers will be better off under the Ryan proposal than under the Obama health law.
The biggest winners are Americans under 55. They need to pay attention as Congress debates the budget. It is not about next year.
It's about Medicare a decade from now, when they will need it.
The Obama health plan reduces future funding for Medicare by $575 billion over the next 10 years and spends it on other programs, including a vast expansion of Medicaid.
It's robbing grandma and grandpa.
The Ryan program stops the raid on Medicare. In the year 2019, according to Medicare's own actuaries, Medicare will spend $14,731 per senior, under the Obama health law, instead of $16,162 if the Obama health law had not been enacted.
Such cuts might be justifiable if the savings extended the financial life of Medicare. President Obama and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius frequently make that false claim.
Even Medicare's mailings to seniors repeat the lie that the spending reductions will make Medicare more financially secure.
The truth is, Medicare is being bled dry, not saved.
While Ryan's proposal also reduces future Medicare spending over the next decade, the differences are how the reductions are achieved and what is done with the "savings." Ryan's proposal stops the Medicare heist.
That's good news for Americans who will turn 65 in 2022 or later. The Ryan proposal guarantees them a premium paid to the health plan of their choice.
Having A Choice
Here's the key: The premium paid will be equivalent to what Medicare would otherwise have to spend directly on care. The average premium paid will be $15,000, with inflation adjustments upward after that.
The poor and chronically ill will get more help, to minimize out of pocket costs, while seniors in the highest income group will get less help.
Will $15,000 be enough? Ryan's critics protest that the amount is inadequate and seniors will suffer.
But $15,000 is what Medicare is predicted to spend per senior under the Obama health law. (Reminder: The ObamaCare forecast is $14,731 in 2019 with inflation adjustments thereafter.)
The difference is Ryan offers seniors a guarantee. Clearly that's better than a mere government forecast.
Ryan's "premium support" is modeled after how the Medicare Part D drug benefit currently works. Seniors have a choice, and the competition between drug plans has kept costs below what was predicted - nearly a first for a government program.
The expectation is that the competition among private health plans will help do the same. The shame is that Ryan's proposal for guaranteed premium support wouldn't start until 2022.
The intent is to spare today's seniors and baby boomers entering Medicare from sudden change.
Even without premium support, seniors will fare better between now and 2022 under the Ryan proposal.
By repealing the Obama health law, Ryan's proposal eliminates the Independent Payment Advisory Board.
The Obama health law established IPAB to make further cuts beyond what are specified in the law.
For the first time since Medicare was established in 1965, Congress ceded nearly all control of Medicare spending to this unelected board of cost-cutters. The rationale was to make Medicare budgeting immune from outraged seniors - destining seniors to get substantially less than the cuts already made.
In his speech last week, Obama reiterated that that the knife-wielding IPAB would put Medicare benefits on the chopping block, deciding what care for seniors is "unnecessary" and what "services seniors need."
The President said he won't cut favored programs such as Pell grants for college students and Head Start, but baby boomers and seniors beware.
The debate over Ryan's 2012 budget proposal is not about preserving Medicare as we've always known it.
That is already gone, eviscerated by the Obama health law.
The choice now is about stopping the raid on Medicare's finances and providing a believable guarantee to Americans under age 55 that they will have health care when they retire.

Each week, Citizens Against Government Waste issues a "Spending Cut Alert," highlighting for taxpayers, the media, and policymakers one of CAGW's recommendations to slash wasteful federal spending and reduce the deficit. Recently, Congress has enacted into law several of our proposed spending cuts, like ending funding for the unnecessary and duplicative alternate engine for the Joint Strike Fighter and eliminating the National Park Service's Save America's Treasures program, which was created in 1999 and originally slated to expire after two years.
Now, we want you to tell us which of the following CAGW spending cuts YOU think is the most wasteful, irresponsible expenditure that lawmakers should immediately slash in the face of our nation's record $1.6 trillion deficit:
 |
Cancel the United States Marine Corps' V-22 Osprey, a tilt-rotor aircraft designed to fly as fast as a turboprop airplane while retaining the ability to take off and land vertically. The project, which has been called a "poster child for what's wrong with the defense acquisition system," has failed to meet its original performance objectives, and 30 Marines lost their lives due to equipment malfunctions, all before the aircraft ever entered combat. SAVINGS: $75,000,000,000. |
 |
Unload excess federal property. According to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), "In fiscal year 2009, 24 federal agencies including the Department of Defense reported 45,190 underutilized buildings that cost $1.66 billion annually to operate. GSA [General Services Administration] specifically holds 282 excess or otherwise underutilized buildings that cost $93 million annually to operate." SAVINGS: $15,000,000,000. |
 |
End ethanol subsidies, which groups on both the left and right have now exposed as a colossal waste. Studies show that increased ethanol production does not improve energy independence or help the environment. Even former Vice President Al Gore, ethanol cheerleader and spiritual leader of the climate change movement, has backtracked on his support for the program, saying it was a "mistake." SAVINGS: $6,000,000,000. |
 |
Eliminate the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), which distributes grant money to 138 nonprofit legal aid organizations across the country in an effort to provide free legal services for the poor. However, LSC has often used its taxpayer-provided funds not to grant legal representation to impoverished citizens, but to promote political agendas that have nothing to do with the indigent. SAVINGS: $420,000,000. |
 |
Terminate the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Economic Action Program, which had a dubious mission to begin with and has become a slush fund for pork. GAO has found that federal economic development programs are duplicative and wasteful and should be consolidated. According to GAO, USDA manages 31 economic development programs and lacks "quality data on program outcomes." SAVINGS: $25,000,000.
|
Please take a moment right now to tell us which of these vital spending cuts you want CAGW to fight for first by casting your vote in our Spending Cut Alert Poll. We will publicize and use the results to demonstrate overwhelming public support for enacting these CAGW recommendations to slash the record deficit spending that threatens to bankrupt our nation.
Sincerely,

Thomas A. Schatz President, CAGW
P.S. EDWARD, please help us get as many Americans as possible to participate in our Spending Cut Alert Poll so we can put a stop to this obscene waste. Forward this message to your friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

The Wanton Cowardice of the Republican Party

What do we know of the Commander In Chief of the most transparent Regime in our nation's history? No much. In 1967, Barack Obama attended Noelini Elementary School on Hawaii's Oahu. Citizens must submit a birth certificate to register, foreign students a visa or passport. No records of Obama have been released and school officials refuse to answer questions.
From 5th grade through the finish of high school Obama attended the exclusive and expensive Punahou School in Honolulu, reportedly the recipient of a scholarship. No financial records or explanation of his scholarship have ever been released.
In 1979 Obama enrolled in Occidental College in L.A., also under scholarship. As scholarships were generally awarded only to foreign students, suit was brought by the U.S. Justice Foundation' Gary Kreep, demanding Obama's financial and attendance records from the school as they could have revealed his citizenship status and therefore his eligibility to serve as President. The school contacted Obama's attorneys and ... Continue Reading:The Wanton Cowardice of the Republican Party

"I think [she] will go down in history as one of the finest Speakers that we have ever had, and she is going to continue to be, in the future, one of the great Speakers that we've ever had."

Collins is first GOP senator to oppose Ryan budget proposalBy Josiah Ryan - 04/22/11 03:21 PM ET
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine.) said Friday that she will not support the 2012 budget passed by the House last week.
"I don't happen to support Congressman Ryan's plan but at least he had the courage to put forth a plan to significantly reduce the debt," Collins said on "In the Arena"a program on WCSH 6, a local NBC affiliate in Portland, Maine. Collins is the first Republican senator to state publicly that she will not support the Ryan budget. The plan, crafted by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), would cut $5.8 trillion in spending over 10 years and transform Medicare into a sort of voucher system, among other measures, to balance the budget by 2040 without raising taxes. The budget proposal passed the House last Friday but is expected to fail in the Senate. The House voted 235-193 to pass the proposal, with only four Republicans voting aginst it. No Democrat voted for the plan. |
Beck: Huckabee Should Stay Out of the Race

The spat between star radio host Glenn Beck and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a potential Republican presidential candidate, continues. On Friday, Beck said his fellow conservative was "co-opting" liberal "talking points," Politico reports. There are "really tough issues that real conservatives will have with Mike Huckabee," Beck said on his show. "If, sir, you are this thin-skinned about your politics, it might be best for you to stay on the sidelines" and not run, he said. Earlier in the week, Beck called Huckabee a "progressive," because he defended Michele Obama amid criticism of her healthy eating drive. Huckabee shot back on his own radio show Thursday, accusing Beck of calling him a "Nazi." On Friday, Beck said, "I did not realize that I had called all progressives Nazis. I have said Nazis have used progressive tactics....read Goebbels, he talks about it in his diaries."

Last week Hans von Spakovsky reported at PJM that the Obama administration is circulating the draft of an executive order for comments from several government agencies. Titled "Disclosure of Political Spending By Government Contractors," it represents the Obama administration's attempt to implement by executive fiat portions of the DISCLOSE Act as to federal contractors.
As von Spakovsky explains, the executive order would will require companies to delve into the personal political activities of their officers and directors and require them to report political contributions those employees have made, not out of corporate funds (which is illegal), but out of their personal funds ("all contributions or expenditures to or on behalf of federal candidates, parties or party committees made by the bidding entity, its directors or officers, or any affiliates within its control; and any contributions made to third party entities with the intention or reasonable expectation that parties would use those contributions to make independent expenditures or electioneering communications").
Hmmm. What gives? Conn Caroll takes a look and explicates the obvious:

When they get cross, tell them you feel their pain. As a conservative, you know how hard it is to be persecuted for holding views some find unfashionable. Say you won't condemn them for being socialist fellow travelers of Herr Hitler and that their secret is safe just so long as they agree not to try any of that Sieg Heil stuff when your kids are anywhere nearby.

Combat sexism: |
When playing mixed pairs golf, show solidarity with feminist players by insisting that men and women tee off from the same spot. Explain that you are doing your bit to combat the outrageous, phallocentric calumny that women are too weak to hit small spherical objects as far as men.

On Friday's Program
Earth Day vs. Good Friday ... who wins?
This year Earth Day landed on the same day as Good Friday. Which one of these holidays will get more coverage in the media? Ok, don't answer that. Earth Day is already off to a head start as kids are being indoctrinated and forced to sing songs about keeping the Earth 'wild' for the future of 'great- grandchild' among other ridiculous chants, including encouraging kids to boycott big businesses. Maybe they'll start with Apple, who was just named 'least green' tech company (even though Al Gore sits on the board). Glenn plays the disturbing indoctrination and responds on radio today.
Classic Beck radio: Glenn's unforgettable Easter Essay set to Pink Floyd...
So Earth Day is being widely celebrated, but what about the Creator of Earth? It would seem like a logical conclusion to give Him a little credit as well - but since that probably won't happen, Glenn's got it covered. On radio today, the story of Easter told only like Glenn Beck can tell it - and it's all backdropped by the music of Pink Floyd. Let Glenn take you on a journey in time all the way back to Biblical days, and hear the story of redemption in a way you will never forget. The most incredible moment in all of human history -- relive it HERE.
Flashmobs of kindness
It's in the spirit of grace that the flashmobs of kindness were organized, and took place all across the country on many different levels. Glenn anticipated you would do amazing things, and you didn't disappoint. People everywhere set out to make someone's day with a random act of kindness - everything you can think of from food to rides to clothes to toiletries to prayers. Check out the living proof as to why YOU inspire Glenn each and every day -- and why YOU are going to be the solution. Check out the fruits from yesterday's flashmobs of kindness HERE.
Geez, what's up with those fear mongers at CNBC, Business Insider, Politico, WashPo, Bloomberg
Glenn is relentlessly mocked day in and day out. He's a fear monger. He's a clown. He's all doom and gloom. But why are people really attacking Glenn? Because one quick glance at the headlines and it seems news outlets are warning Americans about the very same things they mocked Glenn for sounding the alarm on. CNBC: "Killer Combo of High Gas, Food Prices at Key Tipping Point"... Washpo/Bloomberg: "The dollar, less almighty: Big investors see possible long-term currency weakness"...Politico: "Poll suggests deep economic pessimism". Gee guys, why all the fear mongering? Or could it be that Glenn was right...
Mike Huckabee picks an unnecessary fight with Glenn...loses badly
Former Governor Mike Huckabee took exception to Glenn's non controversial comments he made about the former governor, referring to Huck as a Progressive Republican. Huck didn't waste any time, taking to his own radio show and website and issuing a response that was filled with many holes and even outright lies. The attacks were so off base that Glenn responded on radio today - something he most likely now wishes never happened because (as the youth say) he got totally OWNED! Glenn's full reaction HERE -- and The Blaze breakdown of the big lie HERE.
Rumors of War II: The Last days? Premieres this coming Wednesday night at 7 pm ET - It's the documentary you cannot afford to miss. Get the details and trailer HERE.
Interview: Glenn chats with bestselling author Jason F. Wright
You know him as the author of The Wednesday Letters and his new book is The Cross Gardener. Are there angels among us? Jason thinks so and tells us the inspiring story of a man touched by tragedy and a quiet stranger who helps him rediscover the joy to be found in life, love and family. Jason really wants to hear your answer to the question - so much so he (not kidding) gave his personal cell phone number out on the air. No joke - give him a ring. And check out the interview HERE. Glenn totally hearts Allen West - find out the latest reason why HERE.
