Climate Change and Renewable Energy

 Climatism

The News Media bombards us daily with warnings about the dire consequences of climate change. Rising seas, hurricanes, droughts and floods are projected results of man-made global warming. Political leaders, academics, scientists, and the United Nations have placed mankind on a course to try to stop global warming.

But is all this really correct? Contrary to popular Consensus, Steve Goreham, Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America and author of Climatism! Science, Common Sense, and the 21st Century's Hottest Topic, will argue that globalwarming is due to natural cycles of the Earth and not greenhouse gas emissions. Our Federal and State governments are pursuing policies that won't affect the climate but will have a major negative impact on

each American Citizen.

This Discussion is not to be missed! Please join us and you will learn what you can do to influence the debate with your elected officials!

Pamela Geller Event

For those of you who missed Norman Finkelstein at Temple University the following is a report of the event:

Leading anti-Israel figure Norman Finkelstein spoke at Temple University on April 7, 2011.

Finkelstein spoke in a large lecture hall that was full to a capacity of 200. The audience was a mixture of about 80 percent students, 20 percent faculty and non-campus adults. Student population was roughly one-third Muslim, one-quarter Jewish, the rest non-identifiable white or black.

Lead sponsor was Temple Students for Justice in Palestine. Co-sponsors included: Muslim Student Association (Temple Branch), Philadelphia Jews for a Just Peace, Christian-Jewish Allies, American Muslims for Palestine, International Socialist Organization (Temple Branch), PRAWN ("Philadelphia Regional Anti-War Network"), Socialist Action, Philly Against War, Philly BDS, SUSTAIN ("Stop U.S. Aid Tax Aid to Israel Now"), Bubbes and Zaydes for Peace in the Middle East, Philly Gaza Action.

Finkelstein's approach was to use a lie-filled, one-sided attack against Israel (and to a lesser degree the United States) offering up out-of-context quotes from the United Nations and UN Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and even testimonies of Israeli soldiers, all absent of the terrorist acts and offensives which caused Israeli responses.

There was no culpability assigned to Hamas or Hezb'Allah, who Finkelstein repeatedly lauded. In Finkelstein's world - and that of his audience - Israel is culpable for every ill - only Israel. On the rare instance he did acknowledge indecent acts by Hamas or Hezb'Allah, it was only to show that Israel, by comparison - is worse than they are.

Finkelstein talks in a manner that leads to mind control or brainwashing, from his tone of voice, to psychological manipulation to vocabulary. During the Q & A, he never once responded to a question, instead twisting the questions to launch yet another attack against Israel or America.

He repeated false claims against Israel, including that it used "white phosphorous" against Gazan civilians or that its blockade was illegal and used to starve children in Gaza. An over-arching theme of Finkelstein's presentation is that Israel wants the Arab world to bend to its will and to strike fear in its heart. Therefore, any Arab "victories" compel Israel to deal crushing blows in future confrontations to deter notions that the Arabs can defeat Israel.

Finkelstein was given a rock star's reception - a raucous standing ovation - and an even more enthusiastic standing ovation three hours later when he ended the Q & A.

In his discussion of the Gaza flotilla, Finkelstein described Israel's response as an "assault." He did not mention the Israelis only targeted one ship in the flotilla - the ship that had terrorists on it - and that the Israelis only used paintball guns at first. Meanwhile he mocked the fact that the terrorists on the ships were armed, saying they only had "butter knives" and that Israel's great fighter forces were overtaken by those with butter knives.

Finkelstein referred to Gaza as Israel's "favorite shooting gallery." The fact that Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005, or that it supplies Gaza with all of its necessities is not part of Finkelstein's narrative and therefore not disclosed to his audience. Instead, he said, Israel committed "so much murder and mayhem in Gaza ... they destroyed everything in sight - that was their battle plan."

Turning the facts on their head, Finkelstein claimed that Hamas kept its part of a cease-fire agreement, and when Israel in turn would not relent on its blockade, "Hamas chose to resist - the resistance was largely symbolic." Again, he discounted Hama's firing nearly 10,000 rockets and mortars at Israeli civilian areas. "What were Hamas' options ... to lie still and die?"

During this part of his talk, Finkelstein quoted extensively - and selectively - from soldiers' testimonies from Israeli investigations of Operation Cast Lead. Israel "used insane amounts of fire-power;" "it felt like hunting season had begun;" "it was like a child with a magnifying glass burning up ants." The last quote, Finkelstein claimed, referred to "white phosphorus," which he said reached temperatures of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. Given Finkelstein's propensity to lie, it is unclear if these comments were ever made by Israeli soldiers or, if they were real quotes, what the context was.

He claimed Israel committed a "massacre," since there were 1,000 Gazan casualties for every Israeli casualty during Cast Lead.

Ironically, Finkelstein accused the media of being "instruments of Israeli propaganda." This was perhaps the clearest example of Finkelstein's inversion tactics.

Finkelstein mocked the fact that Hamas used human shields and that it fired from hospitals and schools. He quoted from Amnesty, which claims Israel killed civilians "while they slept in their homes."

Turning to the overall "peace process," Finkelstein claimed that it was really "an annexation process." He claimed that since Oslo began, the Jewish population in what he referred to as the "West Bank" rose from 250,000 to 500,000. He never mentioned the population growth by the Arabs during this period.

Now, said Finkelstein, Israel "and its main democratic ally, Saudi Arabia," are trying to undermine democratization efforts throughout the Middle East.

Finkelstein repeated the Big Lie that UN Security Council resolution 242 calls for Israel to withdrawal from ALL of the territories it gained as a result of the Six-Day War.

Finkelstein closed his remarks by quoting the discredited academic Edward Said's famous line that "There is room for everyone at the rendezvous of victory." And then he specifically addressed the Jews and other supporters of Israel in the audience with this attempted guilt trip: "Do you want to defend dropping white phosphorus on hospitals? Do you defend sending kids to bed hungry?"

Before the Q & A, a woman who identified herself as being Jewish was given the opportunity to promote boycotting Israeli products. She was from the Philadelphia BDS movement.

During the Q & A, Finkelstein insisted that the first five questions be from dissenters. Four of them were (the second was from a Muslim espousing Israel lobby/Jewish control conspiracy theories). Finkelstein did not answer any of the questions, instead using the opportunity to twist the questions to attack America and further his assault on Israel and the truth. For example, asked if he considers Hamas to be a terrorist group, he instructed the questioner that one has to be consistent. He went on to say that if Hamas killed 14 Israelis during Operation Cast Lead, but Israel killed 1,400 Gazans, that would make Israel one hundred times worse of a terrorist. If one Israeli house was destroyed but Israel destroyed 6,300 house, Israel was 6,300 times worse of a terrorist. He then said the "atrocities" Israel commits in a year America commits in an hour.

In fact, claimed Finkelstein, everything Israel does to the "Palestinians: is right out of the U.S. "play book." He then went on to cite a Harvard Press author who claimed that American forces have killed between 500,000 and one million Iraqi children.

Hamas's weapons are firecrackers or Roman candles compared to Israel's Finkelstein said, mocking the notion that anything Hamas fires could harm anyone. Asked by another audience member about the Hamas charter - which commits the group to murdering Jews -- Finkelstein sought to brush that aside, claiming no one from Hamas has mentioned their charter since the 1990s, and that Hamas said it would negotiate with Israel - but Israel won't call their bluff.

At the conclusion of the event, Finkelstein received a rousing standing ovation.

Saudis give up on US, instigate direct Gulf action against Iran

If the Saudis are really prepared to go to war with Iran, then they would communicate with Israel for joint action rather than to write Israel off and go it alone. T. Belman

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report April 19, 2011,

After giving up on US and Israel ever confronting Iran, Saudi Arabia has gone out on a limb against the Obama administration to place itself at the forefront of an independent Gulf campaign for cutting down the Islamic Republic's drive for a nuclear bomb and its expansionist meddling in Arab countries, debkafile's Middle East sources report.

Two US emissaries sent to intercede with Saudi King Abdullah - US Defense Secretary Robert Gates on April 6 and National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, who arrived in Riyadh six days later - were told that Saudi Arabia had reached a parting-of-the ways with Washington, followed actively by Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.

Abdullah said he could not forgive the Americans for throwing former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to the wolves in Cairo and for the unrest they were promoting against Arab regimes.

Glick, West and Feith address Congressmen

 By Caroline Glick

Last week I was in Washington meeting with lawmakers about recent events in the Middle East. Among other things, I gave brief remarks at the Center for Security Policy national security luncheon on the hill. Speaking with me were Cong. Allen West, an extraordinary man and great American patriot and friend of Israel, and Douglas Feith, the former undersecretary of defense for policy under President George W. Bush.

Here is my speech.

The Left/Right divide in a nutshell

No Time for Civility
By Steve McCann, AMERICAN THINKER

The United States is being held captive by an ideologically driven president, not because he has the support of the people but because the opposition is too cowed and browbeaten to offer more than token resistance and threadbare platitudes.

Thus the left has an easy sell when they promise that they, in charge of the government, will guarantee a substantial standard of living for all.

Never mind that the centralized approach to governing by a dominant ruling class has ultimately failed throughout the history of mankind, whether it was designated as a monarchy, oligarchy, or dictatorship, or in the modern era, adherents of Marxism, socialism, or communism. For these philosophies to succeed, they must have an economic underpinning that can provide the foundation for massive social spending.

Conservatives, on the other hand, have a much harder sell. They must tout the fact that only limited power granted to...

Advocacy and the real issues

By Ted Belman

What follows below, indented, is an email I received.

I'm sorry Ted,

You caught my attention with some article a while back that I thought was interesting, but your incessant right leaning blog isn't really any better than the nonsense that comes out of lots of other places.

The birther issue is a stupid place to focus. This is all just a red herring to distract from the real issues. Anyone who at this point doesn't believe that he was born in Hawaii isn't really worth the time to read. A number of reputable news outlets have reviewed his actual birth certificate and have deemed it valid. MOVE ON!

No news outlets, reputable or not, have seen his long form birth certificate.

In all my posts I say that the "birther" issue is a lot more than where he was born. Its whether Obama is constitutionaly eligible or has committed a fraud. I guess you haven't been reading. Furthermore, the bottom line for me is to fight against Obama's...

Remember Libya? We're still there and fighting under the, "Pelosi Foreign Policy"

Apr 21, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Ron Reale, staff writer

Along the line of, "some things never change", we have now entered a realm similar in to the passage of the Health Care Bill. Recall at that time, Madam Pelosi posited that because the bill was so large and unwieldy, and there was so little time to read it, it would be necessary to, "pass the bill, so we would know what was in it."

Now, at a time when the UN is full of itself in the absence of an American-interest protecting President of the United States, at a time when the world is waiting expectantly to see which tyrannical dictator the United States President will bow and grovel apologetically before, we have gotten into a "situation".

There is no time to decide the correct path to take, we must act immediately to start killing people, we will find out what was in it for us, what actions will be undertaken against us, what terrorists we have ... This year, the anniversary of our Lord's crucifixion falls on the anniversary of Vladimir Lenin's birthday, which is also Earth Day. Some will choose to worship creation today. We at RedState choose to worship our Creator today and hope you have a blessed and happy Easter.

--------------------

And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.  And sitting down they watched him there;  And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

. . . .

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?  Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.  And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.  Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.  And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Patrick Murphy's announcement letter to supporters

Patrick MurphyFrom: patrick@murphyforpa.com

Subject: Our Next Fight

Dear Friend,

Right now I'm emailing you from the Patrick Ward Memorial, in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia.
I'm actually named after Patrick Ward. He was a helicopter gunner in Vietnam who was killed in action. He was also my mom's best friend.
Growing up, my parents pointed to Patrick Ward as the example of service and sacrifice. His life was dedicated to protecting others. So when I decided I would run for Attorney General of Pennsylvania I knew I would make my announcement here.
I also wanted to make the announcement standing with my family. My father was a police officer in this city for 22 years. His dedication to law enforcement inspired me to go to law school and later serve as a prosecutor. My mom, who grew up down the street, taught me the importance of family and hard-work. And my wife Jenni, my daughter Maggie, and my little boy Jack are here supporting me, too. They are a constant reminder of why we fight so hard.
My path to this day started when I signed up for the Army ROTC program in 1993. After law school, I joined active duty, where I served as a prosecutor. Later I was asked to join the faculty at West Point, where I taught cadets Constitutional Law. After 9/11, I volunteered for overseas deployment. I went first to Bosnia, and then to Baghdad. In Iraq I served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and prosecuted terrorists bent on murdering Americans. After I returned home, I ran for Congress. There I fought to crack down on fraud, abuse, and waste, for equality, and to give law enforcement the tools they need to fight crime.
Today we start a new campaign together. I am running for Attorney General because the people of Pennsylvania deserve an advocate. They deserve an Attorney General who will combat crime wherever it exists - on the streets, in corporate boardrooms, or in Harrisburg. With your help, I will be that Attorney General.
Over the next few weeks and months we'll continue to build our campaign across the state. This race will surely be tough. But when we fight together, we're pretty tough to beat. With your help, we'll get this done.
Stay tuned to our website for updates, and thank you as always for your incredible friendship and support,

To Retire Our National Debt, We Must Retire Obama

 · Friday, April 22, 2011

David LimbaughEveryone but the blind and reckless agrees that the United States faces a dire financial crisis. But only one of the two major political parties is offering a plan that has a reasonable chance of averting this crisis and restoring the nation to financial health.

Obama's ever-changing proposals, allegedly designed to tackle the problem, simply could not work. One of the following must be true: He doesn't agree that the crisis is grave, doesn't understand that his policies can't work, doesn't have the same vision about America as most of us, or doesn't intend for his policies to work. Some people believe he's intentionally damaging America, because they believe he's too smart not to know that we face a crisis and that his policies can't work.

Campaign for Working Families

To: Friends & Supporters

From: Gary L. Bauer

Are You A "Taker"?

If you are a small business owner or entrepreneur, the president seems to think that you are a "taker." During his Facebook town hall address yesterday, President Obama made this shocking statement:

"[The Republicans'] basic view is that no matter how successful I am, no matter how much I've taken from this country ... that somehow I now have no obligation to people who are less fortunate than me and I have no real obligation to future generations to make investments so that they have a better [life]."

Again, the president has it exactly backwards. The "successful," whom he wants to punish with higher taxes, are the ones creating jobs and giving back to their communities. They are the philanthropists and "givers" who support charities and non-profit organizations. If big government takes more money from them, they will have less to invest, fewer dollars with which to pay their employees, grow their businesses or give in support of good works.

But Obama seemingly starts off with the assumption that all money belongs to the government. The only issue up for debate is how much of it you should be allowed to "take." Try this exercise: Take a look at your next paycheck. The "taker" is big government with its insatiable appetite for more and more of your hard-earned money.

Obama Board Threatens Right To Work

While the economy is suffering from high unemployment, the Obama Administration is taking steps to prevent the creation of new jobs in America and threatening a fundamental right recognized in nearly half of the states -- the right to work.

Today's Wall Street Journal reports that the National Labor Relations Board has intervened on behalf of Obama's union allies to shut down a Boeing 787 plant in South Carolina that would employ more than 1,000 people. Why? Because the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers demanded it.

Boeing initially wanted to build the planes at its Puget Sound plant in Washington state. But when it began negotiations with the union, the union demanded "a seat on Boeing's board and a promise that Boeing would build all future planes in Puget Sound." Unwilling to give in to such unreasonable demands, Boeing made a commonsense economic decision to move the plant to South Carolina -- a right to work state.

The union filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board claiming that Boeing made the decision to open a new plant in South Carolina in order to harm the union. After 17 months of construction and $2 billion invested in the plant, the board is now asking a judge to shut down the plant before it opens in July.

If the union succeeds, more jobs will be sent overseas. If big labor and big government are going to prevent American businesses from opening new plants in America, they will have no alternative but to open the plants overseas.

As the Journal notes, the episode is another example of the Obama Administration attempting to impose its radical anti-business agenda by regulatory fiat -- "no matter the damage to investment and job creation."

Another Abuse Of Power

Earlier this week, President Obama raised eyebrows for violating a campaign promise. After Congress voted to defund several of his czars, Obama issued a signing statement that essentially said he would ignore the will of Congress and get advice however and from whomever he wished. The hypocrisy is noteworthy because Candidate Obama condemned the use of signing statements in 2008 and vowed not to use them.

Now there are reports that the president is getting ready to issue an executive order mandating that businesses with government contracts be forced to disclose all political donations. The order reportedly includes all donations made by company executives and board members.

According to Fox News, "One of the rules ... includes stopping certain contributions during negotiation and performance of a contract." In other words, if your company gets a government contract, you may be forced to give up your right to donate your own money! If these reports are accurate, such an executive order would likely be unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court last year broadened the rights of corporations, unions and other entities to be part of the public policy debate. But now Barack Obama is trying to overrule the court. Oh, and his disclosure order reportedly would not apply to labor unions! Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell slammed the draft order as a cynical attempt at political intimidation, saying, "No White House should be able to review your political party affiliation before deciding if you're worthy of a government contract."

Most Americans are instinctively in favor of disclosure. But there are very good reasons why laws protecting donor privacy are written the way they are. These protections were established during the civil rights era, when the courts upheld the right of individuals who supported the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to remain anonymous because they rightly feared retaliation.

If you don't think such fears are warranted today, tell that to Scott Eckern, Richard Raddon and Marjorie Christoffersen, who lost their jobs after supporting Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. After Proposition 8 passed, churches were vandalized, businesses were boycotted and supporters of traditional marriage were harassed by the "tyrants of tolerance."

Obama is taking yet another step to expand the power of government and intimidate his critics into silence. It is just one more example of why we must win the 2012 elections.

Obama's Bad Investment

At every opportunity this week, President Obama has pointed to high gas prices as a reason not to drill for our own oil or tap our own vast resources, but instead to hike taxes on oil companies and to "invest" in "green energy." This week, the government announced it is backing a $2 billion loan for a German company to build a solar energy plant in California.

Green energy creating green jobs. That's the promise at least for billions in "taxpayer investments" or more government spending. How's that investment paying off for other countries? Not very well at all.

Two years ago, a Spanish study found that for every green energy job created in that country by government stimulus, it lost 2.2 jobs in other sectors. Obama and the left dismissed the results as biased or a fluke, and spent billions of stimulus dollars on similar projects here.

How about Great Britain? It's doing even worse! According to a recent study, for every green job created by government spending, the country lost 3.7 jobs in other industries. (Read this stunning article to learn more.)

Whether it is socialized medicine or big government spending schemes, we should learn from Europe's example rather than repeat its mistakes. America cannot afford any more of Obama's socialism!

 The Patriot Post

Alexander's Essay - April 21, 2011

It's NOT 'What the American People Want'

It's what our Constitution requires

"In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." --Thomas Jefferson

The oft-repeated mantra of Barack Hussein Obama and his Leftist cadres is that their public service obligation is to accomplish "what the American people want." At best, this constitutes a gross misinterpretation of the constitutional role of the executive, and at worst, it wholly and maliciously discards the intent of that august Founding text.

If not for Obama's patently obvious Socialist agenda, the populist appeal of this mantra might be excused as "constituent services" run amok in response to opinion polling, but its intent is much more sinister. In reality, the words "what the people want" are just code for a political agenda that may or may not have any correlation with what "the people" actually want, and, moreover, any correlation with what our Constitution prescribes.

Worse yet is that some notable Republicans have now adopted Obama's mischaracterization of their duty, which serves only to legitimize this subterfuge.

Our editorial team undertook an extensive review of "what the people want" as integrated into rhetoric supporting political agendas, however removed such agendas might be from their constitutional authority. Here is what we found.

Barack Obama is the most frequent offender:

When he was running for president, Obama asserted: "You know I taught constitutional law for 10 years at the University of Chicago, so, um, your next president will actually believe in the Constitution." In his campaign treatise, "The Audacity of Hope," he feigns appreciation for the Constitution: "I confess that there is a fundamental humility to this reading of the Constitution and our democratic process."

In reality, however, his contempt for our Constitution is unprecedented, and framing his agenda as "what the people want" is a covert assault upon Rule of Law, consistent with his "fundamental transformation" scheme for "change."

Obama packages his assault as follows:

What the American people want more than anything... The American people want to know if it's still possible for Washington to look out for their interest, for their future. ... That's the project the American people want us to work on. ... The fact of the matter is the American people already agree with me. The American people want Washington leaders to act... I believe it's time to give the American people more control... The American people want to see Washington ... make progress on jobs. ... What the American people don't want... That's what the American people expect. ... Get the business of the American people done. ...something this important to the American people. The American people want us to reform... The American people want less... The American people want more... Everybody understands that the American people want us to focus on their jobs...

Ad Nauseum...

Typical of his unmitigated arrogance, when Obama's agenda does not progress, he suggests that the American people are just too stupid to understand it. "Making an argument that people can understand, I think that we haven't always been successful at that. Republicans were able to paint my governing philosophy as a classic, traditional, big government liberal. And that's not something that the American people want."

Obama's Senate lap dog, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), got the memo:

The American people love government but they don't like too much politics in government. ... The American people want us to work together. ... The Tea Party's unpopularity continues to grow, because the American people sees [sic] how unreasonable they are. ... It's clear that while the American people and Senate Democrats are looking ahead, Senate Republicans are looking for a way to distract the American people. ... I don't think the American people want to do that. ... What the American people wants now is certainty.

Unfortunately, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is reading from the same script:

Both sides are working hard to reach the kind of resolution Americans desire. ... We know what the American people want. ... Something we know the American people want. The American people want us to put aside the left-wing wish list. ... Democrat lawmakers chose to ignore the American people. ... The American people want us to focus on creating jobs. ... Republicans have a plan for following through on the wishes of the American people."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is, not surprisingly, singing the same tune:

Democrats now need to talk about how we have a progressive economic agenda. That's what the American people want. ... Let's just do what is right for the American people. ... Those of us who are involved in politics and government know that our responsibility is to the American people.

Regrettably, second only to Obama's invoking "what the people want" is none other than House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH):

It's encouraging to see President Obama acknowledge that the American people want us to focus on creating jobs and cutting spending. ... Our job now is to listen to the people and follow the will of the American people. ... The American people want us to do something. ... The American people want us to scrap this bill. ... When are we going to begin to listen once again to the American people? ... Beginning in January, the House is going to become the outpost in Washington for the American people. ... I hope President Obama will listen to the American people. ... If we don't deliver what the American people are demanding... Instead of living up to the mandate set by the American people, congressional Democrats have defied the will of the American people. ... What we need to do is to listen to the American people. ... If we're listening to the American people, I don't see any problems incorporating members of the Tea Party along with our party in a quest that's really the same. ... The American people want us to focus on their message.

On the eve of his ascension to the Speaker's chair, Boehner, who has had some difficulty citing the Constitution, proclaimed, "The American people want a smaller, more accountable government -- and that starts with respecting the Constitution. That's why we will read it on the floor next week. It sends the clear message that starting on January 5th, the House of Representatives will be the American people's outpost in Washington, DC."

"Respecting the Constitution" because that is "what the people want"? Wrong, start with the Constitution because that is your sacred obligation, if you in fact honor your oath to support Rule of Law, not flippant populism.

Our United States Constitution, as written and ratified, stipulates in its preface that it is "ordained and established" by the people to "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity." To that end, it established a Republic, not a popular democracy, which is to say it affirmed the primacy of Rule of Law over rule of men.

Accordingly, the first order of business for those elected to national office is that they be bound by oath to "preserve, protect and defend" the Constitution under which they were duly elected.

For those elected to the presidency, Article II, Section 1 is clear: "Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: 'I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.'"

Likewise Article VI, Clause 3 specifies, "The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution..."

Our Founders intended that elected officials, by way of their oaths, would be constrained by Rule of Law. However, there was an errant assumption that those elected would be men and women of honor who would abide by their oaths.

Democrats and Republicans alike, who justify the violation of the explicitly enumerated powers authorized by our Constitution, ostensibly because they are doing "what the people want," are in abject violation of their oaths, and they are not being held accountable for that fundamental breach of trust.

For the record, our editorial staff also reviewed national leadership references to our Constitution, and found few.

Boehner did open the 112th Congress with a bipartisan reading of an "abridged" politically correct version of our Constitution.

Also, in his brief opening remarks to the 112th Congress, Boehner did say, "Let's start with the rules package the House will consider today. If passed, it will change how this institution operates, with an emphasis on real transparency, greater accountability, and a renewed focus on the Constitution."

However, as for his much-heralded revision of clause 7 of House rule XII to specify, "A bill or joint resolution may not be introduced unless the sponsor submits for printing in the Congressional Record a statement citing as specifically as practicable the power or powers granted to Congress in the Constitution to enact the bill or joint resolution," the qualifier "specifically as practicable" undermines any substance this proposal might have had and should be stricken post haste.

This House Rule alteration falls well short of what we really need, The Enumerated Powers Amendment as proposed by The Patriot Post years ago.

Despite the fact that Republican leaders are flip-flopping on what this "Constitution thing" is about, the good news is that most of the freshman class in the 112th Congress are a new breed of representative singularly devoted to our Constitution and Rule of Law.

Perhaps congressional leaders should start with "civics 101," and a thorough reading of our Essential Liberty pocket guide, and this word of advice from George Washington's farewell address: "The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of Government. But the Constitution, which at any time exists, 'till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole People, is sacredly obligatory upon all. ... If in the opinion of the people the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this in one instance may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed. The precedent must always greatly overbalance in permanent evil any partial or transient benefit, which the use can at any time yield."

Publisher's Note

In observance of Good Friday and in celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we take leave from the rigors of analyzing the week's news, policy and opinion in order to focus on an eternal message. To our readers of faiths other than Christianity, we welcome you to read on, and we hope that this edition serves to deepen your understanding of our faith -- the faith of so many of our Founders. To all of our readers, we wish God's blessing and peace upon you and your families. (As always, permission to forward or reprint is granted.)

Quote of the Week

He is not here, but has risen.
He is not here, but has risen.

"On the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, 'Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.'" --Luke 24:1-6

Resurrection Day Meditations

"The Son of God suffered unto the death, not that men might not suffer, but that their sufferings might be like His." --Scottish author George MacDonald (1824-1905)

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." --British author C.S. Lewis (1898-1963)

"I still can't help wondering how we can explain away what to me is the greatest miracle of all and which is recorded in history. No one denies there was such a man, that he lived and that he was put to death by crucifixion. Where ... is the miracle I spoke of? Well consider this and let your imagination translate the story into our own time -- possibly to your own home town. A young man whose father is a carpenter grows up working in his father's shop. One day he puts down his tools and walks out of his father's shop. He starts preaching on street corners and in the nearby countryside, walking from place to place, preaching all the while, even though he is not an ordained minister. He never gets farther than an area perhaps 100 miles wide at the most. He does this for three years. Then he is arrested, tried and convicted. There is no court of appeal, so he is executed at age 33 along with two common thieves. Those in charge of his execution roll dice to see who gets his clothing -- the only possessions he has. His family cannot afford a burial place for him so he is interred in a borrowed tomb. End of story? No, this uneducated, property-less young man has, for 2,000 years, had a greater effect on the world than all the rulers, kings, emperors; all the conquerors, generals and admirals, all the scholars, scientists and philosophers who have ever lived -- all of them put together. How do we explain that -- unless He really was what He said He was?" --President Ronald Reagan (1911-2004)

From your brothers and sisters at The Patriot Post, we wish you a blessed day in celebration of our Savior.

An evening with an American Hero, Admiral Bob Shumaker

Dedicated to the officers and men who flew and maintained the F-8 Crusader, The Last Gunfighter

Last night I attended a lecture at the Air and Space Smithsonian presented by Rear Admiral Robert H. Shumaker.  Admiral Shumaker discussed the Navy's aviation history at the centennial point of Naval Aviation.  For me, the most important part of his presentation was his recollections of his experience as a POW during the Vietnam War.

Admiral Shumaker's self deprecating humor regarding his shoot down ("I forgot to jink") and his desire to debunk an internet myth regarding Jane Fonda is reflective of the man's character.  I'd only known of Admiral Shumaker from reading books about POW experiences or articles that were written about him.  I'd also known a little bit about him via a mutual friend named Randy Kelso, who was a member of what Randy described as the "World's Best Jet Squadron"-The Black Knights of Fighter Squadron 154.  Admiral Shumaker was flying a bombing mission while a member of VF-154 when he was brought down by anti-aircraft fire, becoming the second Naval Aviator (after Everett Alvarez, Jr) to become a POW.

It struck me that a man who could easily harbor so much negativity because of his experiences as a POW instead appears to be at ease with his life experiences.  He mentioned persistence as one of the most important traits to have in life because while not everyone will face the same challenges as a prisoner of war, we all face daunting challenges at some point in life.  It's only through persistence that we can overcome those challenges.

Admiral Shumaker went out of his way to correct a story regarding Jane Fonda; he mentioned that she'd done enough that was verifiable without having to make up stories.  We all know about her propaganda activities such as the infamous "NVA gun mount" photo op or her recorded broadcasts that were repeatedly played to the prisoners in order to demoralize them.  But the internet story of her allegedly having collected notes from POW's and handing them to a North Vietnamese official are false, according to Admiral Shumaker.

The Admiral also gave credit to his wife, who practiced persistence of her own back at home while her husband was a guest of the "Hanoi Hilton" ( a moniker which the Admiral had given to the Hoa Lo prison where the POW's were kept).  She kept busy with schooling and raising a son while longing for the return of her husband.

Admiral Shumaker represents a part of America that I feel we are losing; he represents a generation that believed in honor and believed in keeping their promises.  He represents a generation that believed in doing the right thing, even if doing the right thing wasn't popular.  He represents a generation of Americans who would work hard and never make excuses for not getting things done.  I am proud to have been able to shake that man's hand and I wish that my sons would be half as honorable as Admiral Shumaker when they are grown men.

God bless our veterans, they are America's living treasures.  Our current crop of leaders in Washington could take a lesson or two from men like my friend Randy or Admiral Shumaker.

Obama spinning his campaign web on Facebook

By Darla Dawald, National Director

On Wednesday this week, Barak Obama held a Facebook Town Hall. An historic move by the Obama campaign. Never has any candidate/President taken their town hall to Facebook (a successful social networking site). During the town hall session, Obama stated that the GOP/Republicans are proposing cuts in the budget on the backs of low income Americans. In fact, the rich just want to take from America and not give back.  This kind of rhetoric will become a staple piece to Obama's campaign for re-election in 2012. It's clear that Obama will spin the republicans as a bunch of rich people unwilling to give and intent on taking from the poor.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Challenger Seeks Statewide Recount

Refusing to concede defeat, Wisconsin Supreme Court challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg asked election officials Wednesday for a statewide recount in her flagging upset bid against Justice David Prosser.

Final county tallies compiled last week showed Prosser held a 7,316-vote lead over the little-known state attorney. The margin is within one-half of 1 percent of the total votes cast, entitling Kloppenburg to a statewide recount at local governments' expense.

The Government Accountability Board confirmed in a statement Wednesday that it is moving forward with a statewide recount at Kloppenburg's request

Time to Make Cuts in the Department of Energy

Disco, mood rings and bell-bottom pants are relics of the 1970s relegated to the dustbin of cultural history. But one product of the 70s is still going strong and growing at a rapid rate, despite America's monstrous fiscal crisis. It's the Department of Energy (DOE), and in the last 10 years it has seen its budget grow by over $11 billion -- a staggering 76 percent. If Congress wants to cut government spending, the DOE would be a good place to start.

Pa. 'birther' bill's odds improve

By Brad Bumsted
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, April 20, 2011

HARRISBURG -- State legislation requiring presidential candidates to prove they are natural-born citizens is a political effort aimed at President Obama, a Philadelphia Democrat said today.

Rep. Babette Josephs, ranking Democrat on the House State Government Committee, said the bill by Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Cranberry, the committee chairman, isn't needed since Obama says he is an American citizen and has produced documentation.

Bobbie Gick, the attorney who wrote the letter below, would like to add:  "The following states have initiated legislation that would require proof of Constitutional eligibility to run for the office of president:  Montana, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Indiana, Connecticut, Missouri and Iowa. (Georgia withdrew their bill), with a few others, such as Louisiana still deciding whether to move forward.  Governor Jindel assured that if passed in Louisiana, he would not veto it.  Unfortunately, Arizona's governor did veto the bill after it passed both houses, which would have made it the first state to enact such legislation.  The legislature passed it by a high enough majority to override the governor's veto if they choose to do so.  This is a movement that is growing, with good reason; the legislation is something that should have been enacted over 200 years ago.

"Don't just wait to see the results in each of these states.  Get pro-active by calling the legislators and letting them know you support this bill and request that they vote in favor of its passage."

Happy Easter.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE LEGISLATION

On April 13, 2011, Representative Daryl Metcalfe of Cranberry filed House Bill 1350 that would change the Pennsylvania Election Code to require that candidates for the office of president and vice president show proof of natural born citizenship, age and residency as is required by the U.S. Constitution.

When that filing came out in various online news articles, many comments trashed it stating there were more important things that needed to be done and calling Representative Metcalfe a "birther."  What these complainants fail to realize is that this is important legislation.  While the Constitution may require the above-mentioned items in order to run legitimately for the office of the president, it cannot require that the states enact legislation showing the needed proof.  The election laws are a domain of the states, and each state must enact its own legislation.  After the 2008 election, I was amazed to learn that none of the 50 states had any legislation requiring proof of those items-most merely required the candidate to complete an affidavit stating he/she is constitutionally eligible to run for the office.  The Bill Representative Metcalfe and the other 23 sponsors have filed is more than 200 years past due.

This legislation is not out to get Barack Obama, and it may have no effect on him.  It is merely to adhere to the U.S. Constitution, and isn't that what most of us want - a return to the Constitution?  With all the immigrants coming to this country from all over the world every year, it is not unreasonable to believe that someone who was not born here might want to run for president someday.

House Bill 1350 will go to the State Government Committee for discussion and vote before it goes before the full house for its vote.  Representative Metcalfe is now head of the State Government Committee so it has a good chance of being sent to the floor for a vote.  But we need to let the committee members know that we are supporting this bill and would like them to vote it out of committee.  I've included the names of all Committee members below.  Please contact their offices and let your feelings be known.  This is not a Republican or a Democrat issue; it is an issue that should be of interest to every voter in this Commonwealth and country. The same type of bill was presented last year, but the Chairwoman at that time, Babette Josephs, refused to do anything with it and it died in Committee.  Let's not let that happen again.  You should be able to click on the highlighted names to get to the member's contact information

Obama's EPA Pushes UN Socialism -- Err, "Environmental Justice"
By Susan Stamper Brown, FloydReports.com

The United Nations' (UN) current plan to discuss a treaty proposal granting more rights to "mother earth" than humans is nothing more than an elaborate attempt to re-market the climate change program in a neatly wrapped package called "environmental justice."

The UN proposal, drafted by Bolivian socialist president Evo Morales (the same guy who claims that eating chicken causes male baldness and homosexuality), is similar to a new Bolivian law which elevates trees, animals, insects and "living things" to the same level as humans. Raised to this new level, mother earth and her "living things" would be assigned an authorized representative to hear complaints brought on their behalf and would have the right to seek financial compensation for damages.

All bug-stomping humans beware: Morales' proposal does not stop at financial compensation but goes a step further to execute judgment upon the guilty by organizing a "tribunal for climate justice"....

New Records Reveal How You Paid for ObamaCare Propaganda
By Tom Fitton, BigGovernment.com

The American people do not support Obamacare. This much we know. So I'm willing to bet they're going to be furious when they learn that the Obama Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) wants to spend as much as $200 million on a propaganda campaign to convince them they're wrong about the president's socialist health care overhaul.

Last week Judicial Watch obtained documents from HHS that provide new details on a massive, taxpayer-funded, multimedia campaign designed to promote the Affordable Health Care Act (also known as Obamacare) and other HHS policy initiatives (such as the anti-obesity - or food control - campaign that is a vanity project of Michelle Obama). According to the records, which we obtained through a March 23, 2011, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit, the total cost of this campaign, which notably targets Obama's electoral coalition, could reach as much as $200 million over the next five years!

The following are highlights....

Academic Rot

By Walter Williams

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com |

The average American, as parent, student and taxpayer, has little idea of the academic rot at so many of our colleges. Save for a tiny handful of the nation's colleges, what distinguishes one college from another is the magnitude of that rot.

One of the best sources of information about our colleges is the New York City-based Manhattan Institute's quarterly Web magazine, Minding the Campus, edited by John Leo, former columnist for U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine's Winter 2010 edition contains an article by Dr. Candace de Russy, former member of the board of trustees of the State University of New York (SUNY), titled "Hate-America Sociology." De Russy's colleague sent her a copy of a student's exam from an introductory sociology class found lying in a room at an East Coast public college. The professor had given it a perfect score of 100. Here are some of the questions asked and the student's written response:

Education Spending Dollars and Sense

Education Spending Won't Create Jobs

Contrary to Obama's political rhetoric, more taxpayer spending to send more students to college will not reduce unemployment or improve the economy. It's just Obama's way of finagling the unemployment statistics by listing young people as students instead of as unemployed.

A report by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland confirmed that when it comes to long-term unemployment, the length of unemployment is unrelated to education level. Although employment is higher for people with more years of education, the duration of unemployment is the same for all education levels.

A new phrase is now commonly included in job ads for all kinds of positions: "must be currently employed." Charts from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show remarkably parallel lines for the duration of unemployment of Americans age 25 and older who have less than a high school diploma, only a high school diploma, some college, or a college degree.

The Obama Administration continues to propagate the falsehood that solving the unemployment problem requires "more investments in education." Investment is a favorite liberal code word for more spending and higher taxes.

The National Right to Work Act just received an unexpected endorsement from the Obama National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

In fact, the forced unionism apologists have finally admitted that Right to Work laws are such a powerful tool for job creation, workers who benefit from these protections should be thrown out of their jobs.

I know this is confusing, so let me explain.

You see, yesterday the NLRB's acting general counsel, Lafe Solomon, issued a complaint against Boeing, the airline manufacturer.

In 2009, Boeing opened a new plant in South Carolina, one of 22 states that protect the Right to Work, employing over 1000 hardworking Americans.

But Solomon has agreed with International Association of Machinists union bosses who want to shut down the plant because they can't force the workers to pay any dues or "fees."

Solomon's complaint is outrageous.  It's no secret that Right to Work laws spur job growth and innovation, which is exactly why Boeing opted to build in South Carolina.

The Wall Street Journal today called the decision "The Death of Right to Work."  If the NLRB can tell a company it can't hire workers in Right to Work states, it can do anything.

But to paraphrase Mark Twain, the rumors of our death are greatly exaggerated.

As you know, we have a plan to end forced unionism nationwide.

It's called the National Right to Work Act.

And our plan to push for cosponsors for this bill is already underway
!

But it won't happen without your help.

You see, the Committee has set a goal to raise $150,000 by midnight April 26 to fund our program.

Would you be willing to chip in with a gift of $10 or $25 to the Committee to help us reach our goal?

No matter how much give, be it $10, $25 or even $100, your gift is vital in reaching our goal.

And with our country in desperate need of the National Right to Work Act, there has never been a more important time for you to give, Linda.

Please donate now and help the Committee reach its goal of raising $150,000 by midnight April 26.

Right to Work isn't dead.

Help us hit our goal and prove it to Big Labor.

Sincerely,

Mark Mix

Understanding Our Debt Problem

The Director of Economics for the PA Coalition wants to keep his day job with a national investment firm and requests anonymity in this and future analyses:

If you want to understand our debt problem, look no further than the attached chart constructed by the PA Coalition for Responsible Government from US government data.

This chart - again, constructed entirely from US government data -shows federal receipts, outlay, and the percentage of federal tax filers who paid ZERO income tax. The 2010 number of 47% is what has been reported by the media this week but all other data is from the government's own web sites.

The percentage of tax returns with zero tax liability has more than doubled since 1990. This has been a failure of both Republicans and Democrats who have caved-in to the constant bleating of progressive liberals who are always begging at the door for the next handout.

Notice between 2000 & 2003 inclusive when the percentage of people not paying made its first big leap - federal receipts declined. Then the economy stabilized around the new tax rules and as the economy grew, receipts rose again. Until 2007-2010....and the train wreck of affordable housing and liberal fecklessness took hold.

Oh, by the way....also notice that even with this botched up mess, if we merely reduced spending this year to 2003 levels, our deficit would nearly be zero. Paul Ryan is correct: it's mostly a spending problem.

We are our own worst enemy.  We have fewer people paying taxes and a code so riddled with loop-holes meant to ease the burden on the 53% carrying the load - or buy their votes - and spending that is so out of control, that it's no wonder our tax system of financing is nearly broken.
The answer is simple:

1.       Bring federal spending under control - today. Now. Not by 2020 or 2024 or whatever - now.
2.       Lower tax rates.
3.       Flatten the tax code dramatically and do away with most of the loopholes. This would be known as a "flat tax". Yes, the 'poor' should pay taxes - don't they use roads, bridges, and benefit from our national defense? They'll be rewarded with expanding employment opportunities and rising incomes. Quote of the Day

"The Americans formed another idea of the relations of the citizens with the Government when they placed these simple words at the head of their constitution:
'We, the people of the United States, for the purpose of forming a more perfect union, of establishing justice, of securing interior tranquillity, of providing for our common defense, of increasing the general well-being, and of securing the benefits of liberty to ourselves and to our posterity, decree, &c.
Here there is no chimerical creation, no abstraction, from which the citizens may demand everything. They expect nothing except from themselves and their own energy. "

US to give Libyan rebels non-lethal aid

$25 million worth of non-lethal aid

The Obama administration plans to give the Libyan opposition $25 million in non-lethal assistance in the first direct U.S. aid to the rebels after weeks of assessing their capabilities and intentions, officials said Wednesday.

Amid a debate over whether to offer the rebels broader assistance, including cash and possibly weapons and ammunition, the administration has informed Congress that President Barack Obama intends to use his so-called drawdown authority to give the opposition, led by the Transitional National Council in Benghazi, up to $25 million in surplus American goods to help protect civilians in rebel-held areas threatened by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's forces.

"@papajohns Sarah Palin uses her special-needs child as a craven political prop for the anti-family GOP. That's reprehensible and we mock it." The Wonkette Twitter feed also included a couple of swipes at Papa John's for having employed a "homophobic" spokesman.

So much for a cure

Researchers are stopping a study that tests a daily pill to prevent infection with the AIDS virus in thousands of African women because partial results show no signs that the drug is doing any good.

Women taking Truvada (true-VAH'-duh), made by Gilead Sciences Inc., are just as likely to get HIV as other women who have been given dummy pills, an interim analysis of the study found. Even if the study were to continue, it would not be able to determine whether the pills help prevent infection, since the results are even this far along, researchers said.

President Obama announced tax hikes to solve the deficit caused by reckless spending.

In Hours, Thousands Sign Anti-Tax Petition

After President Obama released a budget that continues reckless spending and record deficits, we knew his 'reducing the deficit' speech would call for tax hikes. Sure enough, with the euphemism "shared responsibility" he called for Americans to pay more towards the federal government's largess.

We are absolutely opposed to tax hikes. When we dug through the speech, we realized that 60% of Obama's "deficit reduction" came from tax hikes. Moreover, raising enough money to shrink the deficit would require taxing the middle class. This is more of the same from President Obama, and America has had enough.

We immediately launched a petition, asking Americans to remind President Obama and the rest of the Washington establishment that they weren't elected to raise taxes.

Within two days, over 15,000 Americans signed our petition.

Statements like this help us break through the beltway noise. While pundits and the political class talk about "boosting revenue," we are here to remind Washington that such 'boosts' come from the pocketbooks hard-working Americans.

Thank you for standing with us against tax hikes. Together, we can build an America where freedom, opportunity, and prosperity flourish.

Sincerely,

NumbersUSA

The New York Times Smears Movement for Lower Immigration, but Compliments NumbersUSA

Times Paints NumbersUSA as Titanic in Influence in Washington

Says we hold "veto power" over legislation

Last Sunday the New York Times went after the whole immigration restriction movement with a page 1 attack article that went on to fill an entire inside page. Massively long, and mostly aimed at knocking early immigration restriction leader John Tanton for some private letters he wrote decades ago, the article also spends a good deal of ink in discussing NumbersUSA and our founder Roy Beck.

I generally don't bother you with all the attacks the mainstream press sends our way. But this one is a gem. While it does unfairly attack John Tanton, it manages to shower NumbersUSA with compliments while doing so. I thought you'd be interested in reading some of them. The New York Times are the indented ones in blue.

After naming NumbersUSA and two other groups, the Times stated that we are . . .

. . . one of the most powerful grass-roots forces in politics. The immigration-control movement surged to new influence in last fall's elections and now holds near veto power over efforts to legalize any of the 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

You probably already know that the New York Times is one of our most bitter foes. They have singled us out for attack in several editorials. Our flaw in their eyes? We want immigration to go down and to enforce current law, and they want immigration to go way up while rewarding those who break the law.

Considering that the Times is one of our most dedicated opponents, the article shows NumbersUSA in a surprisingly complimentary light. In fact, it almost seems like reporter Jason DeParle didn't have his whole heart in the attack.

DeParle's article notes that NumbersUSA . . .

. . . doomed President George W. Bush's legalization plan four years ago by overwhelming Congress with protest calls.

In the pamphlet-long discussion of John Tanton, the now-retired eye doctor who helped NumbersUSA in our first days in the 1990s, the Times describes how none of the forces on our side in the first years had enjoyed much success in moving Congress. However, says DeParle:

The man who most changed that was Roy Beck . . .

It goes on to say:

Mr. Beck mobilized a database of supporters with what was then a novel technology, the Internet fax. Prompted by a well-timed alert, his followers could register outrage with a few mouse clicks -- or call. They did, in attention-grabbing numbers.

Before I go on about the article, I need to ask you for your financial help. NumbersUSA has become one of the most influential organization in America because our members have been willing to give back financially. Sending millions of faxes takes money. Wrestling the New York Times takes money. Yet we operate with a fraction of what the open borders coalition has. We need a shot in the arm this month. Please help.

Much of the New York Times article is spent reviewing old quotes from John Tanton. Yet the keeps coming back to NumbersUSA and our growing impact:

Numbers USA showed its force in 2002 when Republican leaders of the House backed a bill that would have allowed some illegal immigrants to remain in the United States while seeking legal status. Numbers USA set the phones on fire, and a majority of Republicans opposed it.

"I had people come up to me on the floor of the House saying, 'O.K., O.K., call off the dogs' -- meaning NumbersUSA," said former Representative Tom Tancredo, a Colorado Republican who fought the bill.

The big war broke out in 2007, after Mr. Bush proposed a systemic overhaul including a path to citizenship for most illegal immigrants. Supporters said it would free millions of people from fear and exploitation; opponents argued that it would reward lawbreakers and encourage more illegal immigration.

DeParle reports that during the 2007 battle FAIR (the Federation for American Immigration Reform) got the topic discussed on radio talk shows, and, the article continues:

NumbersUSA jammed the Capitol's phones.

Their success became the stuff of lore. They "lit up the switchboard for weeks," said Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, explaining his decision to oppose the bill. "And to every one of them, I say today: 'Your voice was heard.'"

For supporters of granting legal status, the vote was a total rout. "Let's face it, they kicked our butt," said Frank Sharry, who led a business-immigrant group for the bill.

The Times article then explains that business and Leftist open borders groups, such as the National Council of La Raza and the National Immigration Forum, became desperate after their 2007 defeat. They realized they had to change the subject. As long as the subject was the rule of law, appropriate levels of immigration, etc., NumbersUSA would always win.

So, the other side embarked upon a coordinated and massive campaign to label us and every other voice in the restriction movement as anti-immigrant, motivated by racial concerns. They hoped to stop all reporters from quoting us and all Members of Congress from listening to us.

The Times article makes it clear that the smear campaign failed in part because -- as the Times' three-month investigation discovered -- there is nothing in NumbersUSA's 16-year history to justify any suggestions of racism.

Although the Times story does not state this, tens of millions of dollars were raised from left-wing foundations to finance the smear campaign. Today, the open borders lobby has in essence given up debating NumbersUSA or our ideas. They seem to be helpless to fight our influence in Congress. Again, the Times:

Mr. Sharry acknowledges that he used to warn colleagues that charges of racism would backfire. But he said the 2007 debate convinced him of his opponents' ill will. "I've gone from saying they're part of the process to seeing them as extremists who want to expel millions of people," he said. While they started with a liberal gloss, "their juice became culturally conservative Republicans who don't like brown people."

Despite such attacks, the groups remain influential.

DeParle reports that Georgia legislators passed legislation last week cracking down on illegal immigration in that state even more. State Rep. Matt Ramsey . . .

. . . credited Numbers USA with helping to mobilize local supporters. "That grass-roots program they have is incredibly effective," he said.

Well, there's my report on the New York Times article. You can see that though it needlessly allowed the other side's baseless smears of the rest of the movement to be repeated, it comes across as more of a bouquet thrown at us.

According to the Times: We are fair-minded. We are massively influential. Our methods are effective.

Our biggest need at NumbersUSA right now is more financial support.

We have 1.1 million member activists like you, and we have plenty of support on Capitol Hill to get the job done -- if we can just keep the operation in good health financially. We have to keep the faxes flowing. We have to keep our lobbyists working.

This summer, we have real hope that the House of Representatives will pass E-Verify and other critical bills. We are no longer on the defense -- the other side is! This is the best time to invest in us financially -- when we are in position to gain ground!

 Grassfire Nation Update

Dear Patriot,

With the recent budget "compromise" exposed as a sham,

members of Congress and the Obama Administration are now

preparing to ram through their next big-spending item --

raising the debt ceiling.

Having just passed a budget with no real cuts in spending

(according to the CBO), Congress now expects you to sit

silently by while they jack up the debt ceiling to

unprecedented heights -- pushing it far beyond its current

$14.294 trillion level and allowing them to continue the

pattern of reckless spending.

+ + Grassfire Nation Poll Says "Don't Raise Debt Ceiling"

But Congress underestimates grassroots America. A recent

Grassfire Nation poll of our members reveals that YOU

are FED UP with deficit spending and OPPOSE raising the

debt ceiling under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. YOU want lawmakers

from both sides of the political aisle to get serious

about cutting spending and addressing our nation's

skyrocketing debt. And the results are overwhelming:

         --80% say the debt ceiling should not be raised;

--86% say politicians will ultimately break any

promises they make to cut spending in a deal to

         raise the debt ceiling;

--And a stunning 81% of Grassfire Nation members

say you do not want the debt ceiling raised even

if it means as much as a 68% reduction in all

         federal programs!

+ + Political spending addicts demand more debt

Meanwhile, like a drug addict desperate to score his next

fix, D.C. politicians are laying the groundwork to keep

their drug of choice -- out-of-control government spending --

flowing into their coffers.

First, they took credit for the bogus budget deal that didn't

actually cut spending.

Now, they are issuing "doom and gloom" warnings if we don't

go along with raising the debt ceiling. Obama's money man

Tim Geithner is touting that we must "substantially increase

the debt ceiling" to help alleviate financial pressure.

Others are warning of financial collapse and utter ruin.

What about the crushing debt load that we are saddling our

children and grandchildren with that will bankrupt Social

Security, force skyrocketing tax increases and ultimately

destroy our economy!

Patriot, it's time for liberty-loving Americans to administer

a powerful, grassroots dose of "tough-love" to Congress!

Grassfire Nation has just launched an "I Oppose Raising

the Debt Ceiling" petition to give grassroots Americans a

way to communicate their frustration and anger over the

current spending crisis that is jeopardizing our nation,

while sending a stark, no-nonsense message to EVERY member

of Congress that THE BUCK STOPS HERE!

Add your name to this important petition by clicking below:

http://www.grassfire.com/154/petition.asp?ref_id=500064

In just a couple of weeks from now when the debt ceiling

debate is at its most intense, Grassfire Nation will hand-

deliver your petition to those most responsible in the

ongoing spending fiasco.

Click here now to answer back to Congress:

+ + 100,000 Petitions Needed in just two weeks!

Changing the "tax and spend" culture of Congress will take

a maximum effort by grassroots Americans who are fed up

with the political games, the lies, and most of all -- THE

OUT OF CONTROL SPENDING!

That's why it is up to you to rally and mobilize 100,000

citizen-signers leading up to this important delivery in

early May.

After signing, help spread the word to fellow Americans --

many of whom are no doubt frustrated and confused over the

actions of our Congress.

Let them know that no is not the time to shrink back and

be silent, but rather to rise up and take action by making

their voice heard by joining tens of thousands of other

Americans!

Encourage them to click here to take action:

http://www.grassfire.com/154/petition.asp?ref_id=500064

Congress is manipulating and playing Americans as fools --

willing to say and do anything to keep their spending

addiction funded -- even if it ultimately leads to the

destruction of our nation!

Click here now so Grassfire Nation can include you in our

upcoming petition delivery opposing the raising of the debt

ceiling:

Thank you for turning to Grassfire Nation!

Tell a Nancy Pelosi joke:

A man washed up on a desert island after a ship wreck. The only other survivors were a sheep and a sheepdog.

The three of them got into the habit of going down to the beach every evening to watch the sunset.

One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds and the breeze was warm and gentle. It was a perfect night for romance. As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over and put his arm around the sheep.

But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercely until the man backed away.

A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another shipwreck. The only survivor was Nancy Pelosi.

That evening, the man took Nancy to watch the sunset. It was another beautiful tropical evening-perfect for romance. Before long the man started to get "those feelings" again.

He fought the urges as long as he could, but he finally gave in, moved closer to Nancy and told her he hadn't had sex for months.

Nancy batted her long, lovely eyelashes and asked if there was anything she could do to help.

"Yes," he said, "Take the dog for a walk."

Mum's the word these days as the left shouts down any politician who dares advocate something crazy like lowering taxes. In this clip from The Blaze, Congressman Paul Ryan gets booed and shouted down for defending the current tax rates on the wealthy. How did Ryan respond? Glenn has the clip and reaction on radio today.

Mass. sex ed site touts ease of getting abortions to kids

It's like totally easier than you think to get an abortion! So says a state funded sex education website in Massachusetts anyway. The site stands by their advice to kids that encourages them to not tell mom and dad about getting an abortion (just go to Planned Parenthood, and they'll hook you up with a good lawyer) - but even more horrifying, the site paints getting an abortion as no big deal while warning that adoption can cause severe problems. Get the full story from The Blaze.

Legendary ad man Jerry Della Femina: Obama is a socialist and I'm not letting him redistribute my wealth

Legendary ad man Jerry Della Femina has sounded off on Obama. He says he decided that 'this country was falling in love with an attractive, great-speechmaking hustler/socialist,' adding 'I'm not ready to pay more tax money than the next guy because I provide jobs and because I work a 60-hour work week and I earn more than $250,000 a year.' He wasn't done there, predicting that America was headed 'for a disaster' financially. What does he plan to do? Find out at GlennBeck.com.

Andrea Mitchell's fav news source: Al Jazeera

There's a bizarre trend happening in the media and the White House: Al Jazeera is suddenly the most beloved television news channel. Forget MSNBC, Fox News, CNN - Al Jazeera is being touted above all others. Hillary Clinton slammed American news when she referred to Al Jazeera as 'real news' and top anchors are lining up to sing the praises of Al Qaeda's favorite TV channel. Why is ALJTV suddenly all the rage? Glenn explains on radio today.
