Beck: Obama Passover Message a 'Slap in the Face' to Israel
The Blaze | by Meredith Jessup | Posted on April 19, 2011
As we noted Monday, President Obama's Passover message this year included an odd comparison between the Jewish Seder and recent uprisings in the Middle East. Israeli National News noticed the comparison as well:
Passover recalls the bondage and suffering of Jews in Egypt and the miracle of the Exodus, but U.S. President Barack Obama says its message is reflected in Muslim uprisings. In his annual message, prior to his third straight participation in the Passover Seder, President Obama stated, "The story of Passover...instructs each generation to remember its past, while appreciating the beauty of freedom and the responsibility it entails. This year that ancient instruction is reflected in the daily headlines as we see modern stories of social transformation and liberation unfolding in the Middle East and North Africa."

Should Eric Holder Be Fired?
Take Our Poll Now
Allegations Leveled Against Attorney General Investigation Warranted Some Calling It Holder-Gate
|

|
Last week, Pajamas Media contributor, Patrick Poole, broke an exclusive story claiming the Department of Justice (DOJ), late last year, squashed pending terror finance support indictments that were about to be issued by the US Attorney's office in Dallas against several prominent national Islamic organizations with ties to the Obama White House. |
Quoting an unnamed DOJ informant, Poole wrote that one of the indictments was aimed at Omar Ahmad, one of the founders of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). He continued that that indictment and others were "scuttled last year at the direction of top-level political appointees within the Department of Justice (DOJ) - and possibly even the White House."
Read the Entire Pajamas Media story here.
These allegations come on top of a growing list of actions that run counter to the wishes and direction of the American public like:
- the decision to try 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed in a Manhattan civilian court rather than before a military commission
- the decision to close Gitmo without first having a plan for what to do with the enemy combatants
- the decision not to prosecute Black Panther voter intimidation even when it was captured on video tape
- his consistent failure to acknowledge radical Islam as a motive in homegrown terrorism attacks
|
So the question is on the table:
Should Eric Holder Be Fired? Help us pressure Congress to investigate Eric Holder.

RedState Morning Briefing
For April 20, 2011
1. The Left Takes the Debt Ceiling Debate Hostage to the S&P
It is worth noting that when Standard and Poor issued its warning about American debt it did not mention the debt ceiling debate.
In fact, Barclay's Bank specifically noted in its statement about what it all meant that "This announcement was not about the debt ceiling; in fact, the debt ceiling is not even mentioned in the S&P release."
. . . .
The American people understand what it means to refuse to pay down credit cards and instead get new credit cards. They understand that is what government is doing. And they are tired of it.
If the Republican Party will not aggressively fight for real cuts and real reform in exchange for raising the debt ceiling, if at all, it very much will be time for a third party in this country.
2. Let's Take Barack Obama's Advice on the Debt Limit
Back in 2006, as the vote on the debt limit came up, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Harry Reid all voted against it.
Here is what I am calling on all Republicans to do.
They should go to the floor of their respective house in the congress and, before pledging to vote against the debt limit just like Barack Obama did when he was there, they should quote Barack Obama. Every single one of them.
3. Is Obama Planning to Impose DISCLOSE Despite FEC, Congress & the Supreme Court?
Having launched his $1 billion election campaign a mere two weeks ago, Barack Obama appears to be moving quickly to try to further tilt the political landscape to favor his union cronies through an Executive Order that implements certain portions of the failed DISCLOSE Act.
As first reported by Pajamas Media, the White House is circulating a draft Executive Order (in full below) to agencies for comment. As drafted, the Executive Order would only affect government contractors-not unions-and would require the contractor, as well as its directors or officers, to disclose any contribution or expenditures.
4. Lafayette, Here We Come?!
I will post two recent items from the White House. I let you decide if they reek of total incoherence. The first was written in response to a call for a more rapid removal of US forces from Europe.
The second comes from President Obama's recent campaign polemic on deficit reduction.
5. One Year's Worth Of Union Dues Could Support 265,447 U.S. Workers For A Year
Union bosses have been engaging in class warfare for so long now that it's become standard for the media to echo the meme without challenge. An example of such mainstream Marxism is in today's Bloomberg piece entitled 'Runaway CEO Pay' Could Support 102,000 U.S. Jobs, AFL-CIO Says. Bloomberg's piece relies heavily on the AFL-CIO's Executive Pay Watch, which was set up years ago to conduct a haves vs. have nots class warfare campaign to eventually have CEO pay limited by law or regulation. This was something union bosses accomplished to some degree with last year's "Wall Street Reform."
6. WaPo Poll: More Trouble for Obama on the Economy As I have stated before, the economy is the Democrats' signature issue, and the one on which they rely to win elections, particularly on a statewide and national basis. The Washington Post has a poll out today which demonstrates further why Obama is vulnerable in 2012: In February, 2009, voters approved of his handling of the economy by a 60-35 margin. Today, they disapprove of his handling by a 57-42 margin. A stunning 46% of voters strongly disapprove of Obama's handling of the economy. Note, of course, that this is a different issue from Obama's handling of the deficit, and Republicans should be wary of confusing the two.

Chinese spies are becoming the legacy of the Obama Administration
Apr 19, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Last week brought yet another reminder of the deceitfulness of the Chinese Communists. The people Barack Obama has entrusted the fate of our nation to are stealing the design secrets of what is left of our auto manufacturing base. And all the while Obama is burrowing more and more money from our "friends" in Beijing.
A legal Chinese alien who worked for Ford from 1997 to 2007 was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison and ordered to pay a $12,500 fine upon his guilty plea to two counts of stealing trade secrets from his American employer during the decade he worked for them as a design specialist.
"Mike" Yu was taken into custody at Chicago's O'Hare airport when it was determined that he had copied 4,000 Ford design documents describing engine-transmission and electric power supply systems. Immediately after leaving Ford Yu joined Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation.
Last summer a Chinese couple was caught stealing hybrid engine ... Continue Reading:Chinese spies are becoming the legacy of the Obama Administration

'Birther bill' vetoed by Arizona governor
By the CNN Wire Staff

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
- Gov. Jan Brewer says the bill is "a bridge too far"
- It would have required presidential hopefuls to prove they were born in the U.S.
(CNN) -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a bill late Monday that would have required President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they were American citizens, born in the United States, before their names could have been placed on the state ballot.
The so-called "birther bill" got final approval in the state House last week. Now that Brewer, a Republican, has vetoed it, the bill will not become law unless legislators vote to override her veto.

All the President's Funny Money

Ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching. President Obama's perpetual campaign cash-o-matic machine kicks into high gear again this week as the celebrity-in-chief heads to Hollywood for several high-priced fundraisers. But while the Democrats' 2012 re-election team stuffs its hands into every liberal deep pocket in sight, questions about the Obama 2008 campaign finance operation still fester.
Last week, the laggard watchdogs at the Federal Election Commission announced an audit of the Obama 2008 campaign committee -- which raised a record-setting $750 million. White House flacks are downplaying the probe as a "routine review."

New Common Sense
Applying First Principles to the Issues of Today |
Cutting the American People Out of the Budget
The recent budget battle was unbecoming of a nation with a Founding document proclaiming that government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed. The governed formally exercise expressed consent through elections for representatives and executives responsible for making laws. They exercise ongoing consent through an open legislative process-where the governed can debate issues, support policies, object to legislation, and petition their government. Ongoing consent requires not only an active, informed populace, but an open process. Without such government transparency, Americans are shut out of the process and the consent of the governed is undermined. This is what happened with the recent 2011 budget debate.
Despite having strong majorities in both the House and the Senate in 2010, the Democratic majorities in Congress did not pass a budget for 2011. The first item of business for the new Congress in 2011 (with a new Republican House), then, was to do what the previous Congress had failed to do: pass a budget for 2011. In early February, The House of Representatives considered a continuing resolution to fund the government in 2011. An extraordinary degree of transparency followed: 40 hours of debate were scheduled to consider the 2011 budget; 500 amendments to the bill were filed proposing cuts and increases to various programs; over 150 amendments were offered on the floor to be considered; over 100 votes recorded on spending measures. At the conclusion of this week-long process on February 19, The House's passed the long-term spending measure by a 235-189 vote, and cut $61 billion from the budget.
The House leadership deserves praise for the week-long open debate that enabled of the American people to follow along and voice their opinions on the use of public funds. The Senate, on the other hand, is a different story. They did not present a budget for consideration. They did not schedule any debate, amendments, or votes on the budget. Weeks later and minutes before a government shutdown, leadership had negotiated a final 2011 budget behind closed doors. The American people-and most members of Congress-saw the deal after the fact.
Thus, the 2011 budget battle ended not with a bang but with a whimper. The House proposed $61 billion in cuts but the final agreement was $38.5 billion. Some question whether much of that $38.5 billion was going to be spent even before it was cut. This should not be the case. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) released his proposed budget for 2012 early last week. The House passed it, but the Senate has not considered it yet. The American people can read Ryan's proposal and compare it to the President's budget: which proposal makes a good use of public money? Is it constitutionally responsible? Members of Congress can take this budget discussion to the American people: host town hall meetings, meet with constituents, hold open hearings, encourage public debate and post bills online for at least 72 hours prior to the vote. No more closed door meetings. Now that would be a process befitting the Founders' design.
Such an open process should not be unique to the budget.
An open process was missing in the Obamacare debate; and many members of Congress lost their jobs because of it. The American people were informed of the issues in the health care bill. They rejected the bureaucratic control of medical treatment. They held the individual mandate to be a gross violation of liberty and the Constitution. They told their Representatives and Senators not to vote for the bill. They marched to the Capitol to protest the bill. In the end, the House and Senate pushed it through anyway. When the American people came to the polls in 2010, they remembered who had violated their consent.
Consent of the governed is first expressed in elections, but it does not begin and end on Election Day. It is a continuous process expressed through the legislative branch, where the American people voice their opinions on policies, persuade their members to vote for or against legislation, petition their government for redress of grievances, and remain engaged in the political debates. It is hard to form opinions, persuade public representatives, and petition the government if one does not know what the government is doing.

Just suck on the exhaust pipe of a gas-guzzling SUV and get it over with already, you eco-princesses!
It would be one thing if these "environmental" activists expressed their undying love for the Earth by only stuffing their pants with a month's supply of Kashi bars before chaining themselves to oak trees across the country.
But we know that liberal granola crunchers don't keep their obsession with the climate to themselves-they attempt to impose their bizarre way of living and caveman worldview on the rest of us, in the name of saving the planet.
To wit, over the weekend our friend Brian Sussman from KSFO attended an early Earth Day festival in Santa Cruz, Calif., capturing on film all the Woodstock retreads adorned with their flip-flops, long beards (men and women), and Hula-Hoops-each one attempting to outdo the other on who can be the biggest knuckle-dragging stooge.
As you'll see, the shuttle hasn't landed yet for aging hippies at this planet fest who believe hitchhiking, fruit trees, and abstaining from child production are the solution to Earth's ills. See them in action here.

Take Action: Support Responsible Budget Votes |
|
|
|
On Friday, all but four Republican House Members supported the Ryan Budget. As liberals ramp up a smear-ad campaign, conservatives must encourage their legislators for making the responsible choice.
The Ryan budget makes real spending cuts, reforms entitlements, repeals Obamacare, and cuts taxes. It also highlights the lack of leadership from President Obama and Senate Democrats. The President's proposal continues the reckless status quo and Senate Democrats have been absent from the fight, failing to produce a budget.
>> Take action: support responsible budget votes.
If Congress doesn't get serious about spending cuts and real reforms, the federal government's recklessness will only get worse. If your Representative voted against the budget, now is the time for accountability. If your Representative made the right choice, now is the time to thank them.
>> Email your Representative now.
When Representatives know conservatives are standing behind them, they'll continue making the right choice.
Thanks for your help in holding Members of Congress accountable, |

Florida Congressman Stands by Impeachment Pledge By Marcos Restrepo, The Florida Independent
In 2010, U.S. Reps. Cliff Stearns, Sandy Adams and Dennis Ross - all Republicans, all from Florida - signed a pledge to the Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee to use "impeachment if necessary" to force President Obama to secure the nation's borders. At least one is sticking by that pledge. #
The pledge stated:
I will use the full power of my office, including impeachment if necessary, to insure the Executive Branch secures America's border immediately and begins to adequately enforce the existing immigration and border laws of the United States, which were enacted by Congress at the behest of America's citizenry. |

Produce Aisle Sticker-Shock By Susan Stamper Brown, FloydReports.com
One trip to the grocery store is enough to remind me that the recent uptick in the stock market has no bearing on the cost of living these days. And yet, Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke could suggest with a straight face to Congress that we are experiencing a "temporary and relatively modest increase in U.S. consumer-price inflation." I suppose compared to an annual salary of close to $200,000, the price of a cucumber wouldn't matter much to an out of touch Washington bureaucrat.
Over the last six months, crude oil, corn and cotton rose a visibly immodest 35 percent, 38 percent and 89 percent, respectively. A recent Bureau of Labor Statistics report confirms what our flattened wallets already told us: food and energy prices are on the rise. According to the report, food prices in March made the biggest gain since 1974 - with a 3.9 percent increase. In February, energy prices rose 3.3 percent and gasoline, 3.7 percent.
Bernanke's "relatively modest" comment conjures up images of the "two Americas" Senator John Edwards once described. On one side, you have the Washington bureaucrats, and on the other side are those you see roaming the grocery aisles with clipped coupons in their hands and corn flakes sticker-shock in their eyes.
To be fair, Bernanke is technically correct to say that we do not have an inflation problem - because, due to their pricing volatility, the Federal Reserve does not include food and gasoline prices purchased by consumers in its calculation. But Americans aren't much interested in federal government technicalities these days. They are instead focused on the newfound art of stretching those "non-inflated" dollars to provide for their families. |

It's Tax Day!
Today is the day that millions of Americans dread -- TAX DAY! If you are a procrastinator and wait until the last minute, you got a break this year. Due to a holiday observed only in Washington, D.C., the IRS extended the deadline this year, from April 15th to the 18th.
President Obama is marking the occasion by hitting the campaign trail this week to sell his plan to raise taxes. He'll kick off the sales pitch by conducting interviews with local reporters in key political swing states today. (The man is always campaigning!)
Obama insists that "millionaires and billionaires" can afford to pay more in higher taxes. But Obama's rhetoric is dishonest -- his plan calls for raising taxes on those making just $200,000! He's not telling us the whole truth. As I noted Friday, even his cheerleaders in the liberal media are calling him out for his fuzzy math.
The "rich" are not the reason for our budget deficit. The top 1% of taxpayers paid nearly 40% of all income taxes in 2008. If anything, we need more rich people in America, and that is why our policies should be focused on creating, rather than punishing, economic growth.
As today's Wall Street Journal reminds us once again, there are too few "rich" people in America and they are not rich enough to pay for all of Obama's spending. According to the Journal, a 100% tax rate on the top 1% of taxpayers (those making $380,000 and up) would yield less than $940 billion. That would cover just over half of this year's expected $1.65 trillion deficit.
What do you do after you have confiscated the wealth of the top one percent and still have a massive deficit left over? You raise taxes on the middle class, which Obama has done. From raising tobacco taxes and the multitude of tax increases in ObamaCare to trying to impose a massive national energy tax and a VAT tax, Democrats are always looking for new ways to raise your taxes.
But the problem is not lack of revenue, it is spending. To eliminate the deficit entirely, the Journal reports that Uncle Sam would have to impose a 100% tax rate on all earners making $200,000 and more. That isn't going to happen. If it did, our economy would collapse. Liberal politicians lie when they claim that all government benefits can continue at their current levels if we just force the rich to pay more taxes.
We got a warning today of things to come when Standard & Poor's lowered the outlook for America's credit rating. The credit agency predicted that it was unlikely any significant deficit reduction reforms would be enacted until the gridlock in Washington is ended after 2012 election. This warning increases the likelihood that the U.S. will lose its triple-A bond rating. The stock market initially plunged 250 points on that news.
What does it mean to you if the government can't deal with our debt? If you own stocks or have a 401(k) retirement plan, you took a big hit today. And if our bond rating actually does get lowered or if foreign investors stop buying our debt, there will be many more bad days like today. Click here to read more about the dangers of the debt menace.
A State Won't Stop The Hate
Israel recently arrested two Palestinian security officials for the murders of five members of the Fogel family. According to various reports, the men have confessed to the vicious murders and "showed absolutely no remorse for their crime." Consider this excerpt:
"After exiting the house, Amjad [one of the murderers] told officials that he could not resist the urge to go back in and kill 3-month-old Hadas Fogel, who was left crying amidst her parents' blood. Amjad also said that had he known there were two other children sleeping in the house, he would have killed them, too."
When news of these brutal murders broke, the world collectively shrugged. There were a few perfunctory press releases, the bare minimum that might be expected. But there was no outrage over the sheer evil of the act and the Palestinian death worshipping culture that nurtured it. For example, one-third of Palestinians volunteered to pollsters that they approved of the Fogel murders! If one-third are willing to admit it, then the percentage who share in this bloodlust is likely far greater.
Once again, I have to ask: In what world does it make any sense for Barack Obama (and Bush before him) to insist that a society with this degree of barbarism and depravity be given a state? And why do we think that statehood would appease such hatred?
Israelis who think that allowing the Palestinians the right to elect their own leaders will lead to peace can be forgiven for acting out of desperation. But, after liberating Afghanistan and Iraq, and hopefully Libya from repressive regimes, policymakers in America should instantly realize the insanity of creating another terrorist state in the Middle East.
A Quantifiable Disaster
Presidential success can be measured in many ways -- by the number of votes cast on a president's behalf, by the number and nature of laws he's signed, by the number of military conflicts he's won or averted. But a president's success is most strongly linked with the quality of life of the people he leads. By that measure, as I argue in my Human Events column today, President Obama has thus far proved a quantifiable disaster. Let's take a look at the numbers. You can read my column here.
Passover
Tonight, Jews all over the world will celebrate the miracle of Passover. The last plague that God used to free the Jews from Pharaoh and Egyptian captivity was to send the Angel of Death to kill all the firstborn males. Forewarned by God, Jews marked their doors with the blood of a lamb, and, as a result, the Angel of Death passed over their homes. (Exodus, Chapter 12.) God told the Jewish people to mark the day as a memorial day and to observe it as a feast to the Lord forever. To all our Jewish friends, we wish you a happy Passover and all of God's blessings.

Obama's Plan To Raise Taxes
Despite Obama's use of intentionally confusing language in last week's deficit reduction speech ("spending reductions in the tax code" as a euphemism for tax hikes etc.), a recent analysis demonstrates just how much the president plans to raise taxes in order to support his big government spending spree.
There are four competing plans -- one by President Obama, one by Rep. Paul Ryan and two plans from independent, bi-partisan commissions. Goldman Sachs, evaluating all four plans on a 10-year scale, offered the best side-by-side comparison. Three of the four proposals rely heavily on tax increases to reduce the deficit. The Ryan plan assumes that you are taxed enough already and relies almost entirely on spending cuts.
According to Goldman Sachs' analysis, 38% of the deficit reduction achieved by the Simpson-Bowles commission comes from higher taxes; 45% of the deficit reduction achieved by the Domenici-Rivlin commission comes from higher taxes. But nearly 60% of the deficit reduction achieved by Barack Obama's plan is the result of tax hikes. The Ryan plan assumes a revenue increase of just 6%, achieved by the implementation of a flatter, simpler tax code.
The contrasting views of the two parties could not be clearer. Obama is calling for nearly $2 trillion in tax increases, while the Ryan plan, passed by the House of Representatives on Friday, dramatically cuts spending and reduces the size of government. Ryan's plan won't get past Harry Reid's Senate or Barack Obama's veto pen. If Ryan's vision of less spending and smaller government is going to become a reality, conservatives must prevail in the 2012 elections.
The President Vs. The Reporter
President Obama's campaign to sell his tax-hike plan got off to a rough start yesterday. Obama's handlers had hoped that he would get softball questions from local news reporters awed by being in the White House and in Obama's presence. But one Texas reporter did what few Washington journalists would dare -- he asked serious questions and challenged Obama's assertions. In short, he performed exactly how a professional journalist should.
With just seven minutes to interview the president, it didn't take WFAA's Brad Watson long to get under Obama's skin. The president starts out smiling. But by the end of the brief exchange, he's snarly and snaps at Watson, "Let me finish my answers the next time we do an interview, all right?" Somehow I suspect there won't be a "next time" for Watson. You can see his report here.
Good News, Bad News
Environmentalists have some good news as they get ready to celebrate Earth Day. Unfortunately, it is bad news for the rest of us. According to newly-released figures by the Environmental Protection Agency, greenhouse gas emissions (which Al Gore says cause global warming) "decreased from 2008 to 2009 by 6.1 percent" and are now at their lowest levels in 15 years.
Why do I say this is "bad news"? Because the reduction was primarily caused by "a decrease in economic output" stemming from the recession. In other words, the fastest way to alleviate global warming is to kill the economy.
Conservatives have warned for years that efforts by the radical environmental movement, and more recently the Obama EPA, to impose a cap and trade scheme or to regulate so-called greenhouse gases would shut down economic activity and cause significant job losses. This evidence seems to bear out those concerns.
But what about President Obama's executive order directing government agencies to consider the impact on jobs when they issue new regulations? Last week, one of CWF's endorsed House freshmen, Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO), tried to get a straight answer out of a top EPA official as to whether his agency even considers jobs when it conducts an economic analysis. Check out this video to learn the answer, but I'll warn you -- it is painful to watch.
Muslims Rioting Again
Muslims in Nigeria are rioting. Churches are being burned. Thousands of Christians have been forced to flee their homes. Red Cross workers report seeing bodies lying by the roadside.
Did Pastor Jones in Florida burn another Koran? No. The chaos in Africa's largest oil producing nation stems from an election dispute. To be clear, this is not a Bush v. Gore Florida-style nail-biter. In fact, the results aren't even in dispute. According to one report, "Observers have called the poll the fairest in decades..."
So what's the problem? In the fairest election in decades, Nigerians elected a Christian as their president and defeated an Islamist by an overwhelming margin. The response of many Nigerian Muslims has been to murder, cause mayhem and burn churches. And, of course, this vicious assault by Muslim mobs will not be condemned by Obama or the U.N. |
Beck's Next Big Move: Getting Message to America's Youth
Monday, 18 Apr 2011 01:23 PM
By Jim Meyers
Conservative talker Glenn Beck is revealing his future plans after he leaves his Fox News Channel TV show - talking for the first time about how he will quit New York City and focus his media efforts on a younger audience.
Beck announced this weekend that he has sold his mansion in suburban Connecticut, which had been listed for more than a year. He had been asking $4 million.
"The last thing I will be doing, I will be leaving New York City. As we build a new media I'm not building it in New York," Beck said. He has not divulged where he will relocate.

We all know ObamaCare must be repealed. But in order to reform the nation's health care system we have to replace the president's big government scheme with free market principles that will lower costs, improve care, and empower doctors and patients.
The Arizona Legislature has just passed the most comprehensive bill ever to open up state borders and allow real competition into the health care marketplace. Governor Jan Brewer has until Thursday to sign the bill and she is getting inundated with calls from those who don't want competition.
This isn't just a local issue; we need to make sure that the whole country knows what is at stake in this fight. Take action today to show that free market competition can work to lower health care costs while still keeping quality service high. Please call and email Governor Brewer today and ask her to sign SB 1593 and promote health care freedom.
To send an email, use her web contact page: http://www.azgovernor.gov/Contact.asp
The phone numbers for Gov. Brewer's office are: (602) 542-1361 and (602) 542-4331
Policy details of Arizona SB 1593:
· Allows any insurer with a certificate of authority (state insurance term for license) in any state to sell their policies to Arizona citizens
· Those policies will have the benefit mandates of the originating state only
· Many Arizona basic consumer protections are included --- for example, AZ false claims act, prompt pay, privacy provisions-- with basic monitoring done by Arizona Department of Insurance
· Breaking these laws and other sanctions will give the Arizona Department of Insurance the right to keep the insurer from selling policies in Arizona for 2 years
· Arizona courts specifically given jurisdiction over cases that might come from the policies
· Arizona insurers may sell a policy with the 'slate' of mandates that derives from other states... so the policies could look, on the one end, like Idaho or on the high end, like Rhode Island, when it comes to mandates.
· The intent is to give Arizona families, individuals and businesses MORE choices when it comes to health insurance.
Sincerely,
Phil Kerpen Vice President of Policy Americans for Prosperity

Obama's winning message on taxes?
President demands $250K makes you a millionaire
President Obama will head out on the road this week, making stops in Virginia, California and Nevada to begin the sales effort of the debt reduction plan he outlined last week.
The most contentious element of the plan to date is his pledge to not extend the Bush era tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans - those making $250,000 or above.

Stu Bykofsky: Some advice for Obama from a reluctant backer
Op/ed with a new tax plan
DEAR PRESIDENT Obama:
As you know, I have been your lukewarm supporter.
Before voting for you, I endorsed you, troubled by your lack of experience in government. As a product of the Chicago machine, you made it to the U.S. Senate too quickly and easily, and didn't stay long enough to leave an ass print on your leather chair.

Obama to hold meeting on immigration reform
Anything to get re-elected
President Barack Obama has marshaled the likes of former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the mayors of New York and San Antonio and Philadelphia's police commissioner in an attempt to show wide and varied support for an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws.
The invitees are among a bipartisan group expected to meet with President Barack Obama at the White House Tuesday afternoon to discuss revamping the immigration system.

Republican legislative gains tug nation to the right
Tug to the right?
In state after state, Republicans are moving swiftly past blunted Democratic opposition to turn a conservative wish-list into law. Their successes, spurred by big election gains in November, go well beyond the spending cuts forced on states by the fiscal crunch and tea party agitation.
Republican governors and state legislators are bringing abortion restrictions into effect from Virginia to Arizona, expanding gun rights north and south, pushing polling-station photo ID laws that are anathema to Democrats and taking on public sector unions anywhere they can.

Super rich see federal taxes drop dramatically
Again with the 45% pay for Fed taxes
As millions of procrastinators scramble to meet Monday's tax filing deadline, ponder this: The super rich pay a lot less taxes than they did a couple of decades ago, and nearly half of U.S. households pay no income taxes at all.
The Internal Revenue Service tracks the tax returns with the 400 highest adjusted gross incomes each year. The average income on those returns in 2007, the latest year for IRS data, was nearly $345 million. Their average federal income tax rate was 17 percent, down from 26 percent in 1992.

Tea Party Top Stories for Tuesday, April 19th, 2011
The filibuster threat comes a day after Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner suggested Republican leaders had offered private assurances to the White House that they ultimately would vote to raise the $14.3 trillion ceiling, regardless of whether a deal is reached on long-term spending cuts.
Publicly, Republicans say they will demand spending cuts as a condition for supporting a hike in the debt ceiling. They stood by that claim following Geithner's comments, and DeMint took their demands a step further. [Fox News, April 19] Click here for the full story

Herman Cain: America's energy dependence is caused by bad policies |
Energy independence is within our grasp because we have plenty of energy natural resources. We have billions of barrels of oil, plenty of natural gas reserves, more coal than any other country in the world, lots of places we could build dams for hydroelectricity and some of the safest nuclear power technology in the world. Wind and solar energy development is not going to get us to energy independence. Studies such as the Department of Energy's "Billion Ton Study" have shown that those two sources could at best provide 5 percent of our energy needs combined. But by maximizing all of our other domestic energy resources, we could become energy-independent. This would not only help to keep down the cost of gasoline and the cost of nearly everything we buy, but it would also be a boost to our economy and create hundreds of thousands of new jobs. But most importantly, energy independence would keep us from being vulnerable to the current instability in the Middle East or the whims of OPEC. But to become energy-independent, we would have to reject the false premise that America's high energy consumption is at odds with conservation, or that we will cause irreversible harm to our planet. | Senator Rand Paul calls for cuts to defense spending |
"There is a compromise, but the compromise is not to raise taxes," Mr. Paul said in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union. "The compromise is for conservatives to admit that the military budget is going to have to be cut." Mr. Paul, who has called for yearly federal spending cuts totaling $500 billion, urged Republicans and Democrats to consider cuts in entitlements and defense. "Conservatives will have to compromise, and we will have to cut military spending," Mr. Paul said. "Liberals will have to compromise and will have to cut domestic welfare." Sarah Palin gave her most robust and perhaps telling speech yet on a snowy Saturday in Madison, Wis. Speaking to a tea party gathering of anywhere between 6,000 and 9,000 -- not all of whom were supporters. Palin derided the GOP "establishment" and accused them of simply rearranging "the deck chairs on a sinking Titanic." And in a line that will surely be repeated, she used the Wisconsin women's hockey team as an example of the way the GOP needs to learn to fight: "Like a girl." But the real fire in the speech was saved for attacking President Obama. And attack she did. Palin is never one to shy from a good tongue lashing, but she was in rare form on Saturday. She accused Obama of "class warfare," "fear mongering," and "cowardice," not to mention throwing "hatred and violence at the good folks in Madison, Wisconsin." Mobs leave charred corpses, fear in north Nigeria
Associated Press | By JON GAMBRELL | Tue Apr 19, 2011
KADUNA, Nigeria - The mobs poured into the streets by the thousands in this dusty city separating Nigeria's Muslim north and Christian south, armed with machetes and poison-tipped arrows to unleash their rage after the oil-rich nation's presidential election.
Muslim rioters burned homes, churches and police stations in Kaduna after results showed Nigeria's Christian leader beat his closest Muslim opponent in Saturday's vote. Reprisal attacks by Christians began almost immediately, with one mob allegedly tearing a home apart to look for a Quran to prove the occupants were Muslims before setting the building ablaze.

THE REASON FOR REFORM: CHOICE OR FAILING SCHOOLS? What is the real purpose of Pennsylvania's "School Choice" Bill - SB1 April 19, 2011 - Sharon Cherubin, Executive Director UNITEPA, Lancaster The Pennsylvania Public School System is under a microscope once again, as our legislators scramble to sell the "school choice" bill to the public. Millions of dollars have been pumped into our public school system with the unions standing by defending the cost and the outcome. The National Education Association Union is the largest union in the United States with a budget of $353 million dollars and 3.2 million members. 40% of 9th grade students in Philadelphia will drop out of school. 44% of Pennsylvania's eleventh graders are not proficient in math, while 34% are not proficient in reading. Pennsylvania ranks 43rd on average SAT scores. The schools blame the parents and the parents blame the schools for a spiraling decline in academic achievement in the public system. For years, Pennsylvania has heard the battle cry by legislators and school choice advocates: "Every child deserves school choice!", "School Choice means the parent gets to choose how to best educate their child", "School choice is a civil right", and most recently, "The parent should be the arbiter when it comes to their child's education"! Yet, SB1 does not reflect any of these sentiments or good policy as our politicians have not been able to define REAL school choice. They offered a weak bill that had no vision for the future of our mandatory public education system and no real reform. As a result, the bill was unexpectedly pulled from the schedule last week. Where is the road map for fixing a bureaucratic public education system and the promise of Choice? Families want to see a thoughtful plan and legislation from their elected officials that is equitable and principled. They voted for transparency and accountability in November yet many officials have been living in a vacuum and not injecting themselves into this decade old conversation. This is a gladiator moment for our Senators and Representatives. Most are watching policy groups, teacher's unions, grassroots organizations and school choice advocates battle it out while they sit at the Capitol waiting for the dust to clear. Yes, the unions are making calls and aggravating the Senate members who have not been bought and paid for, but for the majority, they are silent on this extremely important issue. The politicians that are speaking out do not have control over the message nor do they fully understand the great divide among supporters and those that stand on principle. Although reform is being prompted by failing schools, it should be about choice and giving parents the ability to choose what is best for their child. In July of 2010, SB1 was written under the assumption that any family making over 130% of the poverty line has school choice. This assumption declares that if you have the means to move outside of a failing school district then that is choice. If you have the ability to get a second or third job to pay for private school, than that is choice. Many surveys have been conducted to prop up SB1 but no one has asked the middle income families if they should be exempt because they might have the means. A large majority of parents might have the will to choose private education but they do not have the power. May 5th is the 10th Birthday Celebration for the outstanding "Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program". Pennsylvania should celebrate with those that had the vision and foresight ten years ago and be thankful for the assistance that has come from local businesses and corporations. But maybe this year our government should be thanking the thousands of Pennsylvanians who have voluntarily opted out of public education. They save the state over 4 billion dollars every year by making the personal sacrifice to educate their children in a non-public setting. How about a cake for the 22,000+ homeschoolers who saved the state over $286 million dollars last year by educating their children at home? Taxpayers are the ones who support public education. This money is not the property of the public school system. The money should follow the child. School choice is not really about school choice in SB1. It is about creating another government program which gives a small segment of the population special rights. Last week, middle income families were added to the fourth year in an attempt to appease grassroots critics that believe the bill is a liberal idea meant to fix a government problem. Now, middle income families will have to plan their child's education on an unreliable system which does not guarantee funding. The middle income provision is based on leftover monies that may or may not be available. There are some outstanding schools in Pennsylvania and yet no one has taken the time to compare the success with the failures in order to duplicate what works. We cannot afford to fund failure. Most parents fully understand that more money and more time is not going to fix our broken school system. Parents want the power to choose how to educate their child. So how do we get there? Instead of sending out SB1 support groups peddling a bill that is based on the premise that "vouchers" will inflict pain on the unions, let's build a road map for REAL reform. We could suggest the following: offer the EITC money up front with a "voucher " program that is supplemental not primary, place a cap on the amount of the "voucher", provide homeschooling families and private school students tax credits for educational supplies and specialized classes and offer individual tax credits for those that want to contribute to the EITC program. We could also investigate the possibility of Educational Savings Accounts which function similarly to Health Savings Accounts. A universal voucher program is not "school choice". The government still has control over "your" money and it is an invitation to inflated tuition costs and special interest groups.
For two years, the grassroots movement has worked tirelessly to promote the principles of our founding fathers, elect righteous leaders and defend our freedoms and liberty. So everything that we have worked for to restore this great nation will be in vain if we pass the baton onto a generation of future leaders that cannot meet basic academic standards. SB1 is Senate Bill One because it is a Senate Priority. So remind your Senators that "Choice" is the priority. Parents make the best decisions for their own child's education, not government!

Federal Appeals Court Dismisses National Day of Prayer Challenge
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published April 17 on The Washington Examiner website.
On April 14, a federal appeals court dismissed a challenge to the National Day of Prayer in a notable victory for religious liberty.
The first national call for prayer was from President George Washington in 1789. Since then, every U.S. president except one has issued such calls on various occasions, also routinely making such proclamations on Thanksgiving and Memorial Day.
In 1952, Congress passed a law creating a National Day of Prayer, the first of which President Truman proclaimed on July 4, 1952. The president selected any date of his choice until 1988, when Ronald Reagan signed a law designating the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer.

The Gang That Won't Shoot Straight
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Jan LaRue was published April 16 on Townhall.com.
Hollywood and Washington are rife with elites opposed to the right to bear arms for folks in flyover country "who cling to guns or religion," as their champion in the White House described us.
Some notable exceptions include Tom Selleck, who supports the Second Amendment. He stars in the Jesse Stone film series. Selleck snuffing bad guys--what's not to like? Jesse's advice: "In a fight--front sight."
In the premiere episode, Jesse's weakness, besides drinking too much, is for a liberal city attorney who sounds like the only bar exam she passed was for mixing martinis. She looks at a photo of a shortstop diving to catch a line drive, and asks, "That would be baseball?" But the clincher is when she asks Jesse if he's ever killed anyone. His affirmative answer prompts her to ask why he couldn't just shoot to wound.

Bullying for Dollars
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published April 15 on The Washington Times website.
On any given day, holdups are going down somewhere in America. But the perps are equipped with brief-cases, not guns, and they usually score far more than your average mugger.
I'm talking about American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) attorneys who shake down taxpayers with lawsuits against cities, counties, schools and library boards. They have collected tens of millions of dollars over the years while stripping communities of some aspect of their heritage, usually Christian symbols, prayers or Ten Commandments monuments.

Obama's Budget Speech Frames the Debate for 2012
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Policy Director for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published April 14 on Forbes.com.
President Obama's budget speech Wednesday fatefully framed the debate for 2012. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's 2012 budget proposes to return the level of federal taxes relative to the economy to the long run, historical, postwar average over the last 60 years at 18.3% of GDP. Ryan's budget would also return the level of federal spending over the next 10 years to its long run, postwar, historical average as a percent of GDP, and even below that in subsequent decades.
President Obama's budget proposals Wednesday lacked the specifics of Ryan's complete budget. They were expressed instead in rhetorical terms more suitable to a campaign speech than to a serious budget plan.

DEFEAT H.R. 308.
If passed, H.R. 308 would outlaw the sale or transfer of firearm magazines with a capacity of more than ten rounds.
In fact, Congresswoman McCarthy's bill would turn widows into instant FELONS if their late husbands possessed a 12-round magazine!
Without the petitions from pro-gun Americans like you, it is impossible for the National Association for Gun Rights to keep the pressure on fence-sitting members of Congress in order to defeat gun control.
So please, click here to sign your petition right away.
BUT... even with your petition, defunding the BATFE won't be easy -- it will take more than just National Association for Gun Rights members alone.
I need to reach out to millions of pro-gun Americans all over the country.
And that isn't cheap.
So in addition to your signed petition, will you chip in just $10 or $20 to reach more people?
If you didn't read my letter from last week, I've attached it below for your convenience! It explains just how important it is we DEFEAT H.R. 308 immediately.
Thank you,
-Dudley
I'm afraid the gun control nightmare I warned you about a few weeks ago is coming true.
In the wake of the Arizona tragedy, anti-gun groups and politicians have been falling all over themselves to "cash in" with radical new gun control schemes.
And without your action today, I'm afraid their assault WILL SUCCEED.
That's why I've drafted up petitions to your Congressman and Senators, urging them to vote NO on the Gun-Grabbers' Magazine Ban Bill (H.R. 308) -- or any other similar bill.
But before I give you the link, I want you to know just how important this really is.
If passed, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy's Magazine Ban Bill would outlaw the sale or transfer of firearm magazines with a capacity of more than ten rounds.
Already own a handgun, rifle or shotgun with a magazine that holds more than ten rounds?
You're "legal" for now. But you can't ever sell it, give it away or pass it down to your kids.
In fact, Congresswoman McCarthy's bill would turn widows into instant FELONS if their late husbands possessed a 12-round magazine!
Of course, all this is bad enough. But it's not even close to the end of it.
News reports are that President Obama recently met with House Republicans where he likely made whatever promises he had to in order to pass H.R. 308 with as little publicity as possible.
His goal is simply to "get the camel's nose under the tent."
Then, once H.R. 308 goes to the Senate, the White House is preparing to launch an all-out WAR on our Second Amendment freedoms!
That's why I need you to sign this petition IMMEDIATELY.
If we don't stop him now, we risk losing even more of our rights.
In fact, once the bill reaches the Senate floor, my inside sources are telling me dozens of amendments are already in the works, including:
*** Mandatory waiting periods, and expensive, drawn-out "psychological screenings" designed to force ALL law-abiding citizens to get government approval before purchasing a firearm;
*** A TOTAL ban on all private sales under the guise of "closing the gun-show loophole";
*** A new so-called "Assault Weapons" Ban, targeting ALL semi-automatic rifles and shotguns -- which, unlike the Clinton ban, will NEVER expire;
*** A National Concealed Carry "Standard" -- designed to make it even more difficult for law-abiding citizens to carry a gun to protect themselves and their families from murderers like Jared Loughner.
Don't get tricked by this one -- this "standard" is nothing more than the feds forcing states to slow down the approval of concealed carry permits, and make the remaining permits null-and-void in most areas!
And with the full backing of the White House and the anti-gun media, you and I can't take anything for granted.
After all, just their efforts alone will be difficult enough to overcome.
But what if -- God forbid -- there's another criminal rampage?
You and I both know President Obama and his anti-gun pals will rush to exploit it.
That's why you and I must strangle this monster in its crib NOW before it's too late.

On Tuesday's Program
Obama's most spectacular flip flop to date
President Obama said very clearly during the campaign that he would not use signing statements to subvert the authority of Congress. Now he's used a signing statement in order to ignore the Czar portion agreed to in the budget. Glenn plays the audio on radio today of 2008 President Obama vs. the White House's amazing statement, which almost seems as if they just hoped no one would bother to look into the matter. Fortunately, the press caught on to this one - Glenn has the audio of the blatant flip flop and a full analysis on radio today. Watch it HERE.
Did President Obama pay his fair share of taxes?
Tax information for President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden was made public yesterday. The President and the first lady earned $1.73 million in joint income last year while Vice President Biden and his wife Jill earned $379,000. That puts both the 1st and 2nd families in the dreaded 'wealthiest 1%' category - a group which Democrats endlessly lecture on paying their fair share. So, did President Obama and Joe Biden do their 'patriotic duty' and pay their fair share? Glenn went over the numbers on radio today - get all the details at GlennBeck.com!
Obama gets testy with Texas reporter
Usually calm, cool and collected, President Obama lost his patience with a Texas reporter after he got a little aggressive with the President. Obviously, the President is not used to this kind of treatment. Obama was clearly irritated and scolded the reporter at the end of the interview, demanding that next time he let him finish his answers. Is Obama just not used to tough questioning? Or was the reporter out of line? Glenn's response is guaranteed to confuse the already confused liberal blogosphere. You can get Glenn's reaction, the clip of Obama's outburst and read why The Blaze's Jonathon Seidl backs Obama on this one HERE.
Communist Van Jones: "I love liberty"
Van Jones paid lip service to liberty, but admitted what he is really interested in is the 'justice' mentioned in the Pledge of Allegiance. But his idea of justice is a little bit different than how Lady Justice dishes it out. Lady Justice wears a blindfold for objectivity so that no matter what race, gender, etc you are it doesn't factor into the decision. But Van Jones said (to thunderous applause) that we need justice for this group and that group -- quote 'Shift the Power! Shift the Power!' Lady Justice doesn't seek to shift power - just equal justice. Listen to Glenn play and react to the latest from Van Jones exclusively at GlennBeck.com.
Why Trump won't run... and who the GOP will choose in 2012
The left is giddy that Donald Trump is currently getting loads of media attention - but in the end Glenn believes that Trump will not run. Early polls show Trump is trailing Obama by at least 15% - so it's doubtful that a business man such as Trump would dump millions of dollars into something that really won't benefit him all that much.
