Go See Atlas Shrugged: Part One
On April 15, the film adaptation of Ayn Rand's classic novel Atlas Shrugged hits over 300 theaters across America. The film, Atlas Shrugged: Part One, celebrates values Tea Party activists hold dear: limited government, free markets and individual liberty.
In the film, the productive members of society or "Atlases" who hold up the world, slowly disappear and thus "shrug" from under the weight of a government that undervalues, suppresses and demonizes individual achievement.
Even though it was written more than 50 years ago, Rand's story shares ominous similarities with our nation today. Government bailouts of failing enterprises, crony capitalists perverting the free market and the skyrocketing price of oil-all newspaper headlines today-are themes ripped right from the pages of Atlas Shrugged.
And while the book and the film are fiction, the message hits home because when we look around at our floundering economy and hapless political leaders, one thing is clear: Atlas IS Shrugging.
To show this, we just released a mashup video and quiz showing the parallels between rhetoric used by Democrats today and government bureaucrats in the film. Watch it here and take our quiz:
Atlas Shrugged: Part One has the opportunity to introduce millions more around the world to the philosophy of freedom. Go see this film, and if it's not playing near you, demand that your theater shows Atlas Shrugged: Part One. If the message of individual liberty in Atlas Shrugged inspires you like it does me, please consider a donation to help us continue spreading this important message across America.

Hi all,
Temple Students for Justice in Palestine have just officially announced when their Apartheid Wall will be on display, Monday, April 18th from 11am-4pm. The wall will be erected at the Bell Tower which is in the middle of campus and sees the most student traffic throughout the day.
They plan to go all out with the 8' Apartheid Wall, mock checkpoints, and a model of an Israeli Caterpillar. Students dressed as Palestinians will be blindfolded, forced to sit down, and prevented from passing throught the check points by students dressed as Israeli soliders.
I will attend and video tape the event. I will also reach out to local Hillel, Students for Israel, and College Republican chapters, as well as Temple University Purpose.
I am working on getting a Temple organization to host the Wall of Lies poster.
I will provide an update later today.

From: Gary L. Bauer
Fear And Hate
I stayed up late last night delving into more details of President Obama's speech. While I was critical yesterday, the audacity of the speech is breathtaking in retrospect. Today's Wall Street Journal labeled the speech "dishonest" and "toxic." Columnist Charles Krauthammer said "I've rarely heard a speech by a president so shallow, so hyper-partisan and so intellectually dishonest... It was a speech that was quite remarkable in how demagogic it was..." I couldn't agree more.
Our country is facing a fiscal crisis. Everybody recognizes that. International institutions are warning that the United States "lacks credibility" in dealing with our deficits. Top economists are sounding the alarm. Major bond holders are dumping our debt. At a time when we desperately need presidential leadership, Barack Obama, the man who was supposed to transcend partisanship and bring us all together, is behaving like the divider-in-chief, pitting Americans versus Americans.
For example, the White House hyped this speech for days and presented it as a serious policy address. The administration "reached out" to top Republican officials, including Rep. Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee. But during the speech, the president repeatedly insulted Ryan and attacked his budget proposal in the most hyperbolic terms. And big media let him get away with it.
For example, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) said yesterday on Fox News that without more spending our children would be "running around with no shoes, no clothes, eating off the ground and drinking water that's not safe." Surely President Obama wouldn't say anything that outrageous. If he did, it would make headlines on the nightly news, right? Wrong. Consider this excerpt from the president's address yesterday at George Washington University describing the Ryan plan:
"It's a vision that says if our roads crumble and our bridges collapse, we can't afford to fix them. ...It's a vision that says America can't afford to keep the promise we've made to care for our seniors. ...This is a vision that says up to 50 million Americans have to lose their health insurance in order for us to reduce the deficit. And who are those 50 million Americans? Many are someone's grandparents who wouldn't be able afford nursing home care without Medicaid. Many are poor children. Some are middle-class families who have children with autism or Down's syndrome. Some are kids with disabilities so severe that they require 24-hour care. These are the Americans we'd be telling to fend for themselves."
So, according to President Obama, Republicans want bridges to collapse, they're going to kick Granny out onto the street and children with disabilities will be left to "fend for themselves." Talk about chutzpah! Obama and his liberal allies do their best to make sure that children with Down syndrome and others with no disabilities at all don't even make it out of the womb alive.
Rep. Ryan responded to the president's speech saying, "When the president reached out to ask us to attend his speech, we were expecting an olive branch. Instead, his speech was excessively partisan, dramatically inaccurate, and hopelessly inadequate to address our fiscal crisis. What we heard today was not fiscal leadership from our commander-in-chief; we heard a political broadside from our campaigner-in-chief."
The man who sold us on hope and change is now peddling fear and hate. He wants you to hate the guy down the street who is doing a little better. He wants you to resent the success of your employer or the small business owner. And he wants you to fear the conservative message of smaller government and lower taxes. Barack Obama's latest budget spends twice as much as Bill Clinton's last budget. But according to Obama and Eddie Bernice Johnson, if we don't spend more money bridges will collapse and children will starve. This is political pornography. The purpose of such incendiary rhetoric is to inflame envy and appeal to the worst of human instincts.
President Obama did say one thing I agreed with when he said that this debate was about "our vision for America." Once again he has disclosed the kind of country he wants -- one where there is a ceiling on achievement, where you can earn only so much before you are "rich" and he gets to take even more of your money to "spread the wealth around." He wants a nation where more and more people fall into dependency with the government paying for everything. Obama's dream is one where there are enough people depending on government so that politicians like him will be empowered, and the people will recoil from a conservative message of personal responsibility. We are very close to that tipping point now.
And look at Europe today. Europe embraced socialism decades ago. But, as Margaret Thatcher warned, "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money." The video we linked to yesterday demonstrated that if there is any wealth problem in America today it is that there are too few rich people in America to do what the left wants! As Thatcher predicted, European governments have run out of money, and there are riots in the streets and banks are set on fire when the governments can't meet their obligations. Is that our future too? Remember the scenes from Wisconsin?
My friends, the 2012 campaign is underway. Obama tested his major reelection themes yesterday, and he is in Chicago today for three fundraisers. If Mitt Romney, Donald Trump, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Haley Barbour, Sarah Palin or any other conservative contender wants to catapult to the top, get out in front now and take on Obama's socialist nonsense. Prove to the American people that there is a better way, because Obama is taking our nation down a dead-end road.

Yesterday, I attended a hearing in the House Select Intelligence Committee's Subcommittee on Terrorism, HUMINT (human intelligence), Analysis and Counterintelligence-or THACI for short. The focus of the hearing was to "Examine Political and Religious Entities in the Middle East"-in particular the Muslim Brotherhood.
You can watch C-Span's coverage of the full hearing HERE and read how the Washington Times covered the event HERE.
As I did for the King hearing last month, I arrived on the Hill early to make sure I could get into the room. As an aside, yesterday's hearing was actually held in the House Budget Committee room-to accommodate more people.
When I arrived, there were only two people waiting in line. This hearing-unlike the one held recently by Peter King on Muslim Radicalization-was only announced Tuesday of this week. Additionally, most hearings by the House Select Committee on Intelligence are closed to the public as they discuss matters that require various levels of security clearance. The hearing yesterday was one of the few that are "open," allowing the public to attend and listen in. Though there were less people waiting to watch the discussion, there was certainly no shortage of security surrounding the room and at brief moment early on, there were actually more police surrounding the entrance to the room than people waiting in line to get in.
Fifteen minutes prior to the start of the hearing, we were allowed to enter the room and this time instead of being relegated to watching the discussion from an overflow room next door, I was able to grab a seat in the third row and again got ready to Tweet.

|
In her Opening Statement, Chairwoman Myrick noted that one of her primary reasons for holding the hearing was to shed more light on the Muslim Brotherhood, due to "confusion about the nature and degree" of their threat. Further, the Congresswoman stated, "I believe we must also look beyond tactics-whether they are violent or non-violent-and explore the root issue, their core beliefs and ideology. The 9/11 Commission Report states that 'our strategy must match our means to two ends: dismantling the al-Qaeda network and prevailing in the longer term over the ideology that gives rise to Islamist terrorism.' That is why I believe that when we talk about the threat the Muslim Brotherhood poses, we must not merely look at whether they are violent or non-violent. We must also look at the extremist ideology they espouse and whether it leads to radicalization, and ultimately, acts of terrorism."
Congresswoman Myrick hit the nail on the head when she said, "Our government is playing checkers while the Muslim Brotherhood is playing chess."
|
[Rep. Myrick is one of the Members of Congress we have invited to speak at this year's National Conference and Legislative Briefing. Visit here to find out more and to register for this memorable event.] |
During the course of the 2 hours, the Subcommittee heard from five witnesses:
Lorenzo Vidino, a visiting Fellow at the Rand Corporation; Ahmed Subhy Mansour, President of the International Quranic Center; Tarek Masoud, Assistant Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University; Robert Satloff, Executive Director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy; and Nathan Brown, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University.
Though the discussion was interrupted for about a half hour at one point, so the Members of Congress could go to the House Floor for a series of votes, the witnesses had plenty of time to speak about the Muslim Brotherhood as an organization-both in Egypt and the mid-East as well as here in the United States.
Congresswoman Myrick highlighted the Brotherhood's Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood of North America-calling attention to the section that says the organization "must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions." In response, Lorenzo Vidino stated that there is clear evidence that the Muslim Brotherhood is here and operating-and that the government really doesn't know who the brotherhood is.
As I listened to the back and forth during yesterday's congressional hearing, it struck me how critical the impact of the American grassroots, and in particular ACT! for America's grassroots, have been on the issue of national security.
Consider this: Since the commencement of the 112th Congress, there has been a consistent drumbeat-at least in the House of Representatives-about the threat of radical Islam to our nation. Congressman Peter King has stated that he refuses to succumb to political correctness and that he intends to shed light on the issue of radical Islam in our nation. And he's done just that. As promised, he held his first hearing on Muslim Radicalization on March 10th. He and his staff are gearing up for a second hearing on the issue, expected to be held next month --- on the issue of radicalization within the U.S. prison system.
Yesterday, a little over one month later, I sat in a rare public hearing held by a subcommittee of the House Select Committee on Intelligence to listen to a discussion about the Muslim Brotherhood.
Why has so much attention been focused on these critical issues by our Federal elected officials? Because the American public is speaking up. They are asking questions and they are clear that they expect answers.
While we still have far to go, it appears that members of the 112th Congress have gotten off to a good start. Along with Representative King, Mrs. Myrick has also said that yesterday's hearing was but a first step. She expects to hold subsequent hearings in her subcommittee on the Muslim Brotherhood and related matters. Like yesterday's discussion, some will be "open" to the public and some will be "closed"-but the dialogue will at least continue and that is wonderful news.
Though I was extremely encouraged by the discussion on the Muslim Brotherhood yesterday, I was at the same time discouraged by the level of attendance by subcommittee members. As a former Hill employee, I understand how very busy days are in the House and Senate-and particularly the week before a long recess (the House and Senate will adjourn for the next two weeks for Easter/spring recess). The bottom line is, the entire subcommittee should have been in attendance to discuss this critical issue-and, save for the series of votes that were called on the House Floor-they should have remained there for the entire discussion. They did not and, I feel, that is unacceptable.
What can be learned from this? While extremely important to the cause, information that comes out of hearings like those presented by Representatives Myrick and King are not enough. As a high-level congressional staffer told me recently, this problem will only be solved when the grassroots speak up loudly enough. The American people MUST stay vocal. They MUST continue to let their Members of Congress know that they expect our current national security policies to change. The current course is not sustainable and it is not acceptable.
Our representatives in the U.S. House and Senate are now listening to their constituents. They've learned from last year's elections. They hear the concerns and frustration about issues like the economy, jobs, and health care. The roar about those subjects is almost deafening and, therefore, those issues are certainly front and center on the legislative agenda.
Will the same happen with the issue of national security and the threat of radical Islam here in our nation? What will our congressional representatives hear from their constituents about those issues? You can rest assured ACT! for America will do everything we can to ensure that our concerns are heard.
We are off to a good start very early on, with two solid congressional hearings in the U.S. House of Representatives in two powerful committees.

Terrorist Mark Rudd's Warning on the Destruction of America's Defenses
Submitted by Trevor on April 13, 2011 President Barack Obama and his Democratic allies are using U.S. economic problems (which they partially created) to sell Americans on the need to cut defense spending.
This is what America's enemies have wanted for decades. If America can be dis-armed, Russia, China, Cuba and Iran will face little or no opposition to their plans for world domination.

RedState Morning Briefing
For April 15, 2011
1. Scott Brown, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Mark Kirk, and Lisa Murkowski are Cowardly Liberal Extremists
Support for taxpayer funding of abortion is outside the political mainstream in this country. Depending on the poll, between 60 and 75 per cent of Amerians oppose it (see here, here, and here). In other words, belief that the government ought to be in the business of funding abortions is roughly as mainstream as the belief that the United States Government was behind 9/11. Now, Planned Parenthood has tried mightily to avoid these results by dishonestly claiming that the funds they receive from the government aren't used for abortions. This is one of the most idiotic arguments ever made since the defining characteristic of money is its fungibility. Nonetheless, as Lori noted earlier today, some percentage of people will be fooled by any idiotic argument - however, funding for Planned Parenthood is still soundly opposed by the American people by a 54-39 margin. Which is why it is a real mystery to find that it is supported by a 58-42 margin in the United States Senate.
2. DSCC picks horse in NV, hedges bets in NM and CT
As Nevada Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley announced her Senate bid Thursday and quickly won the backing of her party's campaign arm, other prominent Senatorial prospects in New Mexico and Connecticut linger without the support of their party.
The less fortunate pair, Reps. Chris Murphy and Martin Heinrich, were not extended the Beltway blessing because the former already faces a primary opponent and the latter is likely to counter his own.
But Berkley-who took great pains to clear a primary field once rumored to include State Treasurer Kate Marshall, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Secretary of State Ross Miller-will square off against her own primary challenger.
The efforts of Berkley and her allies to eliminate possible challengers ahead of a primary has lent to grumbling that Washington pols are once more preempting primary voters, selling short local businessman Byron Georgiou, who posted a $1.1 million fundraising haul in the first quarter after committing to a run in early March.
So why the uneven endorsement scheme?
3. Gallup: Who Do You Trust on the Economy?
Gallup has a fascinating poll out today which asks the age-old question: who do you trust on the economy? Now, these sorts of polls are always more interesting than they are useful in predicting election results, and tend to produce some results that make little sense (for instance, I categorically reject the notion that 82% of the population even knows who Tim Geithner is). Further, this particular poll has built into it several well-known bias errors (for instance, voters always react more favorably to their Congressman/Governor/etc. than to nebulous groups of Congressmen in general, whether Republican or Democrat). All of that notwithstanding, the poll contains a good bit of bad news for the Democrats.
4. The Poor Aren't Buying Obama's Class Warfare Obama is forcing our troops to fight a politically correct war in Afghanistan; however, he is prosecuting his class warfare with no holds barred. Obama and the Democrats are the Navy SEALS of class warfare. Fortunately, his target audience, the poor, are not impressed with his ferocity. Obama's support among the poorest Americans has dropped to an all time low, according to the latest Gallup poll.

ONE EVIL Son of Satan FROM STEVE KROFT (60 Minutes)
This is very interesting material. Glen Beck has been developing material to show all the ties that Soros has through the nation and world along with his goals. This article is written by Steve Kroft from 60 minutes. It begins to piece together the rise of Obama and his behavior in leading the nation along with many members of congress (in particular the Democrats, such as the election of Pelosi to the minority leader in congress)
Interesting read on George Soros
This is almost too scary to contemplate... like a James Bond theme.
If you have wondered where Obama came from and just how he quickly moved from obscurity to President, or why the media is "selective" in what we are told, here is the man who most probably put him there and is responsible. He controlsPresident Obama's every move. Think this is absurd? Invest a few minutes and read this. You won't regret it.

Alexander's Essay - April 14, 2011
American Patriot Defined
This Patriots' Day, the 236th Anniversary of the Opening Salvo for American Liberty, The Spirit of Their Sacred Honor Endures
"Citizens by birth or choice of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations." --George Washington

A young reader in the Czech Republic contacted me recently with a question. (Yes, The Patriot Post's message of Liberty is global.)
She wrote, "We as a Czech family subscribe to The Patriot Post and read it with great interest. My homeland has been subject to the tyranny of Nationalist and Marxist Socialism. Could you please help me understand the difference between 'patriotism' and 'nationalism'? In Europe, anyone who puts his country first is called a nationalist and this pejorative term is equated with patriotism."
I responded, "Nationalism refers to a blind allegiance to the state, no matter what the nature of the state may be. American Patriotism refers to the steadfast devotion to the fundamental principles of our nation's Founding, individual Liberty as 'endowed by our Creator,' and the extension of that legacy to our posterity. American Patriotic devotion to Liberty will always be in contest with allegiance to the state or its sovereigns, especially when it manifests in some form of Socialism."
It is easy to understand how a Czech student might find it challenging to distinguish between patriotism and nationalism. Sadly most American students, heirs to the great legacy of Liberty bestowed upon them by generations of Patriots gone before, also can't articulate the difference.
In the early morning hours of the first Patriots' Day, April 19th, 1775, farmers and laborers, landowners and statesmen alike, pledged through action what Thomas Jefferson would later frame in words as "our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor." Thus began the great campaign to reject the predictable albeit tyrannical order of the state and to embrace the difficult toils of securing individual Liberty. It was this as-yet unwritten pledge by militiamen in the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which would delineate the distinction between Liberty and tyranny in Colonial America.
Why would the first generation of American Patriots forgo, in the inimitable words of Samuel Adams, "the tranquility of servitude" for "the animating contest of freedom"?
The answer to that question defined the spirit of American Patriotism at the dawn of the American Revolution, and to this day and for eternity, that spirit will serve as the first line of defense between Liberty and tyranny.
In the first months of the American Revolution, English author and lexicographer Samuel Johnson, a Tory loyalist, wrote that American Patriots' quest for liberty was nothing more than "the delirious dream of republican fanaticism" which would "put the axe to the roots of all government." Johnson concluded famously, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
Unlike King George's partisans, however, American Patriots were unwaveringly loyal to something much larger than a mere man or geo-political institution. They pledged their sacred honor in support of Essential Liberty as "endowed by our Creator" and enshrined in our Declaration of Independence and its subordinate guidance, our Constitution.
It is this resolute devotion to the natural rights of man, the higher order of Liberty as endowed by God not government, which defines the spirit of American Patriots, and has obliged the animated contest of freedom from Lexington Green to this day.
In all the generations since the Revolution, and loudly again in the present era, the essence of Johnson's denigration of patriotism has been repeated by all statists, who augment their disdain for Patriots with words like "fascist, nationalist and jingoist."
These statists, Democratic Socialists in the current vernacular, would have you believe that they are the "true patriots," and only they deserve to be the arbiters of Liberty. But caveat emptor: As George Washington implored in his Farewell Address, "Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism."
Liberty, as affirmed through natural law, is an abject affront to Socialists, who can claim dominion over others only if they supplant Rule of Law with their own rule. For such statists, the notion of serving a higher purpose than oneself is enigmatic; consequently, there is a raging ideological battle between Democratic Socialists and Patriots across our nation today.
Our steadfast support for Liberty and limited government is diametrically opposed to the Socialist manifesto of the Democrat Party, as reframed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1933, and renewed by every Democrat president since.
Regardless of how statists choose to promote Democratic Socialism, like Nationalist Socialism, it is nothing more than Marxist Socialism repackaged. Ultimately, it likewise seeks a centrally planned economy directed by a single-party state that controls economic production through regulation and income redistribution.
Mustering in response to the current threat of tyranny, the Tea Party movement is the latest incarnation in the lineage of American Patriots serving a cause much greater than our own self-interest. It is a direct ideological descendant of the Sons of Liberty who, in 1773, boarded three East India Company ships and threw 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor, the first Tea Party.
According to the Democratic Socialists of Barack Obama's ilk, the Tea Party rank and file are an "angry mob" who are "waving their little tea bags" while they "bitterly cling to guns and religion." Indeed, the spirit of American Patriots is anathema to these statists.
In fact, today's Patriots are much like those of previous generations. We are mothers, fathers and other family members nurturing the next generation of young Patriots. We are farmers, craftsmen, tradesmen and industrial producers. We are small business owners, service providers and professionals in medicine and law. We are employees and employers. We are in ministry at home and missionaries abroad. We are students and professors at colleges and universities, often standing alone for what is good and right.
We are Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen and public servants standing in harm's way at home and around the world, who are loyal, first and foremost, to our revered oath to "support and defend" our Constitution. We are consumers and taxpayers. We are voters.
We are not defined by race, creed, ethnicity, religion, wealth, education or political affiliation, but by our devotion to our Creator, and the Liberty He entrusted to us, one and all.
We are Patriot sons and daughters from all walks of life, heirs to the blessings of Liberty bequeathed to us at great personal cost by our Patriot forebears, confirmed in the opinion that it is our duty to God and Country to extend that blessing to our posterity, and avowed upon our sacred honor to that end. We are vigilant, strong, prepared and faithful.
In stark contrast to Samuel Johnson in 1775 and Obama today, John Adams wrote, "If men through fear, fraud or mistake, should in terms renounce and give up any essential natural right, the eternal law of reason and the great end of society, would absolutely vacate such renunciation; the right to freedom being the gift of God Almighty, it is not in the power of Man to alienate this gift, and voluntarily become a slave."
To that end, Jefferson wrote, "The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them. ... Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."
In 1964, Ronald Reagan issued a clarion call for Liberty in his most famous speech, "A Time for Choosing." He echoed the commands of Captain John Parker at Lexington Green in 1775: "There is a point beyond which they must not advance." Reagan concluded, "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We'll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness."
Now, on the eve of Patriots' Day 2011, and nearly five decades later, and much closer to the decline that Reagan predicted, we must choose between prosperity and poverty, between Liberty and tyranny.
Which will it be?
While contemplating that question, we should, in the words of Samuel Adams, "Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, 'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' ... If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands, which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"
If you have not already done so, please help us, in the words of Sam Adams, "set brushfires of freedom in the minds of men," by supporting our 2011 Patriot's Day Campaign!

Budget Battle, Budget Prattle
The Patriot Post | By Jonah Goldberg | Friday, April 15, 2011
I cannot remember a more depressing week in Washington.
The Republicans boasted a heroic accomplishment: slashing $38.5 billion from the budget, purportedly the largest cuts in history.
But the cake was made from sawdust.
Strip away the gimmicks and shine a light on the shadows, and it turns out the real cuts amounted to $352 million, or less than 1 percent of what was promised.

GOP Facing Tea Party Revolt
NewsMax.com | By David A. Patten | Thursday, 14 Apr 2011
A stunning Congressional Budget Office report revealing that the so-called $38 billion in budget cuts made last week will only result in $352 million in savings this year has touched off a backlash from the conservative grass-roots base of the GOP that could make future bargains that much more difficult.
Several top tea party leaders are trying to ease the frustration, reminding the tea party faithful that Republicans only control the House of Representatives. But the antipathy on the right with how Washington does business is now palpable. Read More . . . |

For cheap eats and drinks and a jukebox blasting Johnny Cash, look no further than this two-story Tribeca haunt. This bar's patriotic-frat house décor feels strangely appropriate. (We're talking light-up beer signs and bras hanging from the rafters next to American flags.) While you're getting down to some boot-knocking country music, you can order a pitcher of beer for the price of a Bud Light bottle at your standard NYC nightclub (No kidding!) Their $2 frozen margaritas, $3 Heinekens and $1.25 sliders are other wallet-happy specials.
The Patriot is a big space, but don't be fooled-it gets pretty crowded and rowdy, especially Thursday-Saturday.

The uneven Senate landscape of 2012 (and 2014)
GOP takes Senate in 2012?
Just over four years ago I wrote in this space that Democrats not only didn't have to worry about losing their Senate majority in '08, they needed to set their sights on 60 seats in 2010 because a "filibuster-proof majority would change the rules of the game on Capitol Hill."
Well, Democrats did get to 60 seats, but they did it well before I thought that was likely. Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter's party switch in April 2009 and Sen. Al Franken's (D-Minn.) seating in July of that year ensured Democrats would hit the magic 60 mark, giving the party six months of a supermajority that Congressional leaders and the White House used to pass health care reform.

Obama's vision of a redistributive America
USSA
President Barack Obama blasted Republican budget reform proposals in his national address Wednesday and announced his plan for solving the budget deficit, which can be summarized as: Tax rich people because they should bear "a greater share of this burden."
Mr. Obama's class-warfare rhetoric painted a portrait of two Americas, two competing ideologies and two visions for the nation's future. The battle, he said, is "about changing the basic social compact in America."

J Crew wants to gay up your sons
When J. Crew sent out its latest catalog, we doubt that the classic clothing company expected it would be blasted by social conservatives as "transgendered child propaganda." But alas, it has.
The images in question fall under pages titled "Saturday with Jenna" -- featuring products personally favored by J. Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons and her family. This particular Saturday for Jenna includes painting her five-year-old son Beckett's toenails pink. The caption reads, "Lucky for me I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. The Donald, Ayn Rand and Sprinklers!
The Donald: False Prophet? by Bob Howard - PA Coalition for Responsible Government
As you know, some grassroots colleagues have been warming up to Donald Trump in recent weeks. Some are attracted to Trump due to his relentless effort to get the truth out on Obama's ineligibility. They finally see someone who is courageously doing what no other individual with power or money (or both) dare do - spill the beans on Obama. In fact, it's getting so much attention, that even the drive by media is reporting it.
Trump's courage and outspokenness is attractive but is he the voice of a prophet or a false prophet? Just the other evening I had the opportunity to meet and hear Charles Krauthammer. Most interesting was Dr. Krauthammer's characterization of Donald Trump as a "false prophet." Read more...

Republicans Repeal Mandatory Sprinklers
The first bill to be passed by both chambers of the General Assembly during the current session, and the first bill sent to Gov. Tom Corbett, will relieve residents of a costly new construction mandate, Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny County) said April 13th.
The measure, which passed the House by a vote of 129-68, repeals a requirement that automatic sprinkler systems must be installed in new home construction.
"These additional costs discouraged many families from building and stalled the homebuilding industry right when our housing market was trying to recover from the recession," Turzai said. "The sprinkler mandate is another example of government over-stepping its bounds and taking away personal choices of homeowners to keep things affordable."
House Bill 377 removes the residential sprinkler requirement for new one- and two-family residential homes. Further, the bill requires the state's Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council to hold public hearings to determine the impact new provisions may have, including financial impact, and vote, with a two-thirds majority, before implementing the requirements in Pennsylvania. | |

Playing Politics Isn't the Answer, Mr. President
In a speech yesterday on America's fiscal crisis, President Barack Obama invoked the legacy of Abraham Lincoln and said, "through government, we should do together what we cannot do as well for ourselves." Yet since his presidency began, Barack Obama has proven that what he cannot do very well for himself or for the nation is provide even a modicum of leadership on out-of-control government spending.

Economic Analysis of the House Budget Resolution
By William Beach, Karen Campbell, Ph.D., John Ligon, and Guinevere Nell
Updated as of April 6, 2011.
Read the statement on the update.
Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI), chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the U.S. House of Representatives, requested by letter that the Center for Data Analysis (CDA) undertake an economic analysis of the House Budget Resolution for federal fiscal year 2012 through 2021.[1] The Chairman specifically asked the CDA to perform conventional and dynamic budget analysis, or analysis that is based on largely "static" budget models and on economic models with dynamic economic properties. These economic models estimate the likely effects of policy change on the major components of economic activity-supply of resources, prices, demographic change, and so forth-which might affect federal fiscal results through revenues and outlay costs.
This report summarizes the results of the CDA's analysis of the House Budget Resolution using these models. As a general matter, the CDA found that implementing the policy changes behind the Budget Resolution would significantly strengthen economic performance throughout the economy and dramatically improve federal fiscal results. This analysis demonstrates that significant actions can be taken now to reform our tax code and rein in the drivers of fiscal imbalances.
Indeed, our work shows that those steps can be taken with a strong confidence of ultimate success.

Tea Party Top Stories

A report from the Congressional Budget Office that says a compromise spending deal between President Obama, Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would cut but $352 million from this year's deficit has cast deepening doubts on the prospects for its passage.
The problem is that in heralding the deal, Obama, Boehner and Reid played up $39 billion in cuts, which were assumed to be for the current fiscal year. But those cuts include some gimmicky accounting and the savings obtained from not tapping reserve funds for programs like Medicaid. When the CBO crunched the numbers on how the deal would affect the projected $1.65 trillion deficit for this year, the result was a reduction of .02 percent.
"It's worse because of the expectations," an aide to a conservative House member who is on the fence on the vote told Power Play. "We knew that not all of the $39 billion would be real cuts, but to find out that almost none of it was real was very disappointing." [Fox News, April 14] Click here for the full story

Presidential contenders such as Tim Pawlenty and Mitt Romney can talk all they want about governing from the safe harbor of the putative campaign trail. But only one prospective 2012 presidential candidate has to walk the walk on a regular basis: Rep. Michele Bachmann. Bachmann is the only working legislator who could end up on the trail later this year. (Rep. Ron Paul also could run again. Should the Minnesota conservative mount a run, her actions in the next two days could help define her candidacy. Today the House is expected to vote on the budget deal struck last Friday to keep the government funded for the rest of the year. Bachmann has been a vocal critic of the deal, while at the same time urging her colleagues to move on to the fights about the 2012 budget and raising the U.S. debt ceiling. She has said she'll vote against the package, largely because it doesn't de-fund the Democratic healthcare initiative. True U.S. debt exceeds world GDP
by $14 trillion
Obama 2010 budget deficit now 5 times larger than nation's output
As the Obama administration prepares to finance a Fiscal Year 2011 budget deficit expected to top $1.6 trillion, the American public is largely unaware that the true negative net worth of the federal government reached $76.3 trillion last year.
That figure was five times the 2010 gross domestic product of the United States and exceeded the estimated gross domestic product for the world by approximately $14.4 trillion.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. GDP for 2010 was $14.861 trillion. World GDP in 2010, according to the International Monetary Fund, was $61.936 trillion.
Shock the Washington establishment by participating in the "No More Red Ink" campaign and shut down all new plans for bailouts, "stimulus" spending and even the funding for Obamacare.

USPS Issues Statue of Liberty Stamp...But Uses Wrong Statue
The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on April 15, 2011
Las Vegas is full of secrets. And what happens there is supposed to stay there. Unless you're the United States Postal Services. See, the USPS recently issued a Statue of Liberty stamp. But instead of using the real Lady Liberty in New York, the stamp features the replica located outside Vegas's New York-New York Casino. Oops.
The New York Times explains the mix-up:

'Still Fat': Neil Cavuto Mocks Boehner's 10-Yr Debt Plan With Absurd 10-Yr Fitness Plan
The Blaze | by Emily Esfahani Smith | Posted on April 14, 2011
John Boehner on his debt plan:
Today the House will vote on the largest non-defense spending cut in our nation's history - $315 billion dollars over the next 10 years. These are real cuts, and a signal to job creators that we're serious about stopping Washington's spending binge.
On his show today, Fox News' Neil Cavuto called out the sepia-colored Speaker of the House on these so-called "real cuts."

Update: Group Behind Fake GE Press Release Has Radical Ties - Planning Mass Protests
The Blaze | by Jonathon M. Seidl | Posted on April 15, 2011
They were shocking images last month. Uncontrolled youth staged mass austerity protests, demonstrations, and lashed out in violence. In the middle of it all was a radical group called UK Uncut, which organized a mass sit-in and "occupied" a luxury grocer.

So what if we told you that UK Uncut has spread to the U.S.? It's true. There's now a group called US Uncut devoted to protesting budget cuts on this side of the pond. One of their first big moves? They're the ones behind the fake General Electric press release that duped the Associated Press. And that's just the beginning of what they have planned. This weekend, they take to the streets.

Agree wholeheartedly that "liberalism" is the only political philosophy any sane person could possibly hold.
Fulminate at length against the lunatics who oppose "liberalism": the scroungers, the malcontents, the life-haters, the losers, the crypto-Communists, the eco-fascists. Say: "I'm with you all the way, buddy. The sooner Big Government butts out of our lives, the better we'll all be..."
Quietly enjoy the liberal's growing discomfort as he realizes your views are diametrically opposed to his own. Then say: "Oh. You're that kind of liberal. I thought you meant you were a liberal in its original, true, classic, libertarian sense. Before it got hijacked by the Left..."
Make a liberal read former Colorado governor Richard D. Lamm's 2004 "I Have a Plan to Destroy America" speech.
The guy's a Democrat eco-nut, so they'll surely sympathize, initially, with what he has to say. Lamm says that if you wanted to destroy America, you would: 1. Make the United States a bilingual country. 2. Invent "multiculturalism." 3. Turn the United States into an "Hispanic Quebec." 4. Make America's fastest growing demographic group the least educated. 5. Encourage big business to fund campaigns to emphasize racial difference and celebrate the "cult of victimology." 6. Celebrate diversity. 7. Make it taboo to talk about these things and call anyone who tries to do so a "racist" or "xenophobe." 8. Ban Victor Davis Hanson's book Mexifornia, which exposes the details of Lamm's wicked plan.
Ask the liberal why he isn't laughing at Lamm's wonderful joke.

On Thursday's Program
Obama says America sucked until 1965
President Obama's speech yesterday was like none given by any President in history. He actually admitted that he believes America was not a great country until several massive entitlements were put in place. This may seem shocking but is consistent with the apology tours, calling the Constitution a 'charter of negative liberties', and his wife saying for the first time in her adult life she's proud of America. Even given all of the America sucks history, it's still a shocking statement. Glenn has the audio and reaction on radio today.
Stu has the details on Obama's America bashing in his latest blog.
Christians fleeing Egypt since Mubarak's ouster
It seems like yesterday Bill Kristol and the rest of the media mocked Glenn for being 'too pessimistic' on the peaceful, democratic uprising in Egypt. Now, it appears that (shocker) Glenn was right and Kristol was horribly wrong - Christians are fleeing Egypt because they are being hunted down and even killed by some radical Islamic groups. What happened to the 'peaceful' revolution that Kristol told Americans about? Glenn has more on radio today.
Glenn on Tour - What the heck is the 'Elegant Eliminations' Tour? Come see one of Glenn's live comedy shows going on right now to find out - he has 3 more shows to go! Can't make it to a show? You can watch it LIVE on Insider Extreme! Sign up now to watch a live broadcast of the Albany stage show this Saturday, April 16th at 8 pm ET - get details HERE. Plus check out exclusive photos from the road HERE.
Glenn interviews 2012 contender Rick Santorum
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum announced that he is taking the steps necessary to raise money for a bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Glenn has always had respect for Santorum - a man who proved he puts principles and values ahead of political expediency when he stuck to calling out Iran despite poll numbers indicating it was hurting him. Glenn chatted with Santorum as he ramps up for a possible 2012 Presidential run - watch the interview HERE.
Obama's fresh new idea: soak the rich
Obama never defined change when he campaigned back in 2008, and with good reason. He hasn't really changed anything. His big new idea to rescue the economy? More taxes and taxing the rich! Only the President calls them 'spending reductions' in the tax code. Progressives are good at renaming things, aren't they? (see: Kinetic Military Action, Overseas Contingency Operation, etc). The first victims: mortgage and charitable giving deductions. Yeah because only rich people utilize either of those. Needless to say, this speech prompted quite a passionate response from Glenn - watch it HERE.
Why doesn't taxing the rich work? Here's the page you MUST pass around to help educate your tax happy friends.
SE Cupp: How is this rebellious? SE crushes wannabe rebels who don't realize getting all their opinions from Jon Stewart and SNL is actually pretty lame, not original. Watch SE's take HERE.
