Quote:
"Public virtue cannot exist in a nation without private, and public virtue is the only foundation of republics. There must be a positive passion for the public good, the public interest, honour, power and glory, established in the minds of the people, or there can be no republican government, nor any real liberty: and this public passion must be superiour to all private passions."

What Should Conservatives Work to Conserve?
(© COPYRIGHT 2011)
Address by Louis T. March
The Thomas Jefferson Club
Newtown, Pennsylvania
April 6, 2011
I have long been affiliated with people who consider themselves "conservatives." I once
served as an aide to Senator Jesse Helms, a "conservative" leader. Today many people
call themselves "conservative," including the interventionist "neo-conservatives." So if
we are "conservative," just what is it that we should work to conserve?
Before answering that question, we must see what we as Americans have lost-and what
we yet stand to lose. In recent decades, America has become less safe, less powerful, less
livable, and, yes, less American. We have suffered a loss of community, a loss of
tradition, a loss of sustaining values-including our Christian ethics. In short, we are
losing those very things that unite us as a people.

The organization sponsoring Nonie Darwish's appearance is the student organization, Temple University Purpose.
On Tuesday, April 12th (7:00 PM), we are having a very important, urgent event on the-oppressive and lagging human rights-women, homosexuals, minorities, non-Islamic religions-under Shari'a Law both abroad and here in United States. We recognize that part of what adds to the conflict is that in Islamic countries there is no separation mosque and state. Of course, therein lays the problem because to question any Government entity is to question Allah and that is a crime punishable in various ways, depending on who you are. This ultimately suppresses freedom of speech and encourages and perpetuates a torturous cycle of suppression of thought and expression.
There will be a Q&A at the end.
The event is meant to raise awareness of the horrific human crimes/conditions of persons both abroad and in America under Shari'a Law.
You can also find our Facebook event page here where you can confirm and through which you can invite as many persons as you'd like: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=198614740160991
If you aren't familiar with our organization Temple University Purpose, we are an aggressive, inclusive Political/Advocacy student organization that does not subscribe to political correctness. We are neither politically nor religiously affiliated. However, one shouldn't mistake us as a neutral organization because that implies that one stands for nothing - we, however, stand for a lot. And, in this particular case, we stand for the human rights of all.
We pride ourselves in introducing conversations and creating a dialogue and debates on issues that otherwise would be omitted from the Temple University arena of thought and debate.

Climate Change and Renewable Energy
Thursday, April 28, The Moose, Doylestown, PA
The News Media bombards us daily with warnings about the dire consequences of climate change. Rising seas, hurricanes, droughts and floods are projected results of man-made global warming. Political leaders, academics, scientists, and the United Nations have placed mankind on a course to try to stop global warming.
But is all this really correct? Contrary to popular Consensus, Steve Goreham, Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America and author of Climatism! Science, Common Sense, and the 21st Century's Hottest Topic, will argue that globalwarming is due to natural cycles of the Earth and not greenhouse gas emissions. Our Federal and State governments are pursuing policies that won't affect the climate but will have a major negative impact on
each American Citizen.
This Discussion is not to be missed! Please join us and you will learn what you can do to influence the debate with your elected officials!

New Study on Hate Crimes Debunks the Myth of a Growing Trend in Muslim Victimization
March 29, 2011 - The Center for Security Policy today released a revised edition of their groundbreaking longitudinal study, Religious Bias Crimes 2000-2009: Muslim, Jewish and Christian Victims - Debunking the Myth of a Growing Trend in Muslim Victimization, based on FBI statistics reported annually in the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The Center's study contradicts the assertions that religious bias crimes against Muslims have increased, and that the alleged cause is widespread "Islamophobia" in America.
In fact, the study shows that religious bias crimes - also known as hate crimes - against Muslim Americans, measured by the categories of incidents, offenses or victims, have remained relatively low with a downward trend since 2001, and are significantly less than the numbers of bias crimes against Jewish victims.
The Center's study also...

DEBKA
After nearly two months of rising tension, Israel and Hamas have taken a step towards a full-blown military confrontation: Before dawn Saturday, April 2, an Israeli air strike killed three senior Hamas Izz al-Din Qassam Brigades gunmen in the Gaza Strip in an operation described by an Israeli army spokesman as pre-empting a major Palestinian terror-cum-kidnap campaign scheduled for Passover. A fourth Palestinian was seriously injured by the airborne missile which struck their car between Khan Younes and Deir el Balakh.
The Hamas Brigades warned Israel its "dangerous escalation" would have "consequences."
debkafile's military and intelligence sources predict that the war confrontation which Saturday brought closer to realization will be unlike any previous Israel-Palestinian showdowns in the sense that it will be less the product of the old Middle East order and fall more under the influence of the...

DEBKA
The accord reached between Saudi King Abdullah and the Bahraini monarch Hamas bin Isa Al Khalifa for the oil island's virtual annexation by Riyadh has so incensed Tehran that armed Iranian-Saudi clashes with the potential for all-out warfare may soon become unavoidable, debkafile's Iranian and Gulf sources estimate. Shiite-ruled Iraq would back Tehran in the first Shiite-Sunni collision to be sparked by the wave of unrest sweeping the Arab world - in contrast to the domestic discord raging in Libya and Yemen.
In the third week of March, debkafile reveals, King Hamad agreed to hand over to Riyadh control Bahrain's defense, external, financial and domestic security affairs. The Saudi king's son Prince Mutaib was confirmed by the two monarchs as commander of the Saudi and GCC forces invited to enter the tiny kingdom to put down the Shiite-led uprising, and it was agreed that Saudi Arabia would soon start building a...

American-Backed Egyptian "Moderate" (Next President?) Threatens War On Israel! bY BARRY RUBIN Everything has been so predictable. Designated "moderate" and U.S.-backed Egyptian leader Muhammad ElBaradei has made a profoundly shocking statement that should change U.S. policy overnight, show how disastrous Obama Administration policy was, and mark the beginning of the coming electoral defeat for the president. But presumably nothing will change. ElBaradei, a presidential candidate, said the following: "If Israel attacked Gaza we would declare war against the Zionist regime." And he's the moderate! In other words:
-Despite repeated ridiculing of Israeli concerns, it is increasingly likely that the next Egyptian government will tear up the Egypt-Israel peace treaty. -Egypt will be an ally of Hamas, a revolutionary Islamist terrorist group that openly calls for genocide against Jews and the wiping out of Israel.... Richard Goldstone's repudiation of the eponymous blood libel he authored in 2009 provides a number of lessons about the nature of the political war against the Jewish state and how we must act if we are to defeat it. Learning these lessons is an urgent task as we approach the next phase of the war to delegitimize us.
By all accounts, that phase will culminate in September at the UN General Assembly's annual conclave in New York. As America marks the 10th anniversary of the September 11 jihadist attacks, the Palestinian Authority's well-publicized plan to achieve UN recognition of a Palestinian state in all of Judea, Samaria, Gaza and northern, southern and eastern Jerusalem will reach its denouement.
The UN Charter spells out the procedure through which new states receive membership. The procedure dictates that the Security Council must recommend to the General Assembly that a state receive...

Finklestein to speak at U of B
A school in trouble
By Michael Anbar
The Muslim Student Association (MSA) at the University at Buffalo (UB) is sponsoring a talk by Norman Finkelstein, the notorious Jewish-born, anti-Jewish and anti-Israeli Holocaust denier, who was denied a tenured academic appointment at DePaul University in 2007, after having been fired by NYU and Hunter College because of his misojudaic (aka anti-Semitic; misojudaism = Gr. "hatred of Judaism"; "anti-Semitism" has little meaning) writings did not meet minimal academic standards.
Finkelstein has been invited by the MSA because of his well known misojudaic rhetoric, which is effective being expressed by a Jewish born person. That talk is scheduled to be held on the UB campus on April 6th 2011, allegedly supported by UB funds. There have been official and unofficial protests by numerous Jewish organizations and individuals to different levels of the UB administration. This far the university has refused to take any action to prevent this...

He is also speaking tomorrow night at Temple University:
Action Alert from the Greater Philadelphia District, Zionist Organization of America
Action:
Noted anti-Israel academic Norman Finkelstein will speak on the topic "Fall of the Arab Despots: Israel Next?" on Thursday, April 7, at 6 p.m., at Temple University Main Campus, at Ritter Hall, southwest corner of 13th St. and Montgomery Ave., Philadelphia, in the Walk Auditorium. Walk Auditorium holds approximately 200 people.
Norman Finkelstein has a long record of anti-Israel activity, including frequent lectures on campuses, appearances at rallies and media, and even going to anti-Israel strongholds in the Middle East. In addition to his outrageously false charges about Israel and unsubstantiated claims, he frequently expresses support for Hamas and Hezb'Allah, both designated as terrorist groups by the U.S. government. He will no doubt bring his falsehoods, propaganda and support of terrorists to Temple University.
We urge you to attend to monitor what he says, and if possible, ask questions that will shatter his credibility and bring out the truth about Israel and the Arab/Muslim war against the Jewish people. See sample questions below.
Plan to arrive early.
There will be two available entrances to Ritter Hall that evening: One on Montgomery Avenue and one on Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The event is free and open to the public, but the university has set ground rules. See below for details.
If you can attend this event, please send ZOA and email in advance at zoa@netreach.net
Alumni or those who know Temple University should contact the university or those trustees to see if any university funds were used to pay for Finkelstein's lecture.
Thank you.
Background:
Sponsors of Finkelstein's talk are: Temple Students for Justice in Palestine, Muslim Student Association (Temple Branch), Philadelphia Jews for a Just Peace, Christian-Jewish Allies, American Muslims for Palestine, International Socialist Organization (Temple Branch), PRAWN ("Philadelphia Regional Anti-War Network"), Socialist Action, Philly Against War, Philly BDS, SUSTAIN ("Stop U.S. Aid Tax Aid to Israel Now"), Bubbes and Zaydes for Peace in the Middle East, Philly Gaza Action. This talk is being promoted by Code Pink and other radical groups.
He can be seen and heard on YouTube clips saying the following:
n Rally in New York City July 29, 2006: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpFmxnwQ9Bw
Israel, in trying to stop Hezbollah and threatening Hezbollah "is using Nazi language."
"Right now, and I say it publicly, right now we are all Hezbollah. All of us."
"Every victory of Hezbollah over the vandals and the marauders, the invaders and the murderers; every victory by Hezbollah over Israel is also a victory for liberty and a victory for freedom."
The United States' "only purpose and being is to enslave the Arab people."
Israel's only purpose is "to wreak murder, wreak havoc, destroy, level, pulverize, flatten, cleanse; if that's tour purpose; if that's your raison d'etre - then you've lost your right to be there" in the Middle East
"Hezbollah is not, thank goodness, the PLO. They're serious, they're committed, they're determined"
"Those who do not -- the monsters and freaks in the White House and their collaborators in Tel Aviv -- so far as I'm concerned they can all drop dead."
n On Press TV 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE__9yJf1hM
Hezb'allah is a "resistance movement"
"I would like to see Nasrallah become 'Man of the Year' because he's the only principled leader in the Middle East."
"The people of Gaza are being martyred; they're being crucified."
n 2008 Lebanon TV interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-D32ZYZLsQ
"I was, of course, happy to meet the Hezb'allah people because that's a point of view that's rarely heard in the United States. And I have no problem saying that I do want to express solidarity with them."
Israel like the Nazis, and Hezbollah is like the Communists/Soviets who fought the Nazis.
"Even Hitler didn't want war. He would have much preferred to have accomplished his aims peacefully if he could."
"Israel has to suffer a defeat."
n In the European journal "Today's Zaman," Finkelstein told a reporter on January 19, 2009:
Israel was a "terrorist state" created by the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948. In praising Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish people for their courage in supporting Palestinian-Arabs, Finkelstein referred to Israel as a "satanic" and "lunatic" state.
He claimed "Hamas was becoming moderate"
He accused Israel's 2008-2009 operation in Gaza "a slaughter, a massacre."
" While the rest of the world wants peace, Europe wants peace, the US wants peace, but this state wants war, war and war. In the first week of the massacres, there were reports in the Israeli press that Israel did not want to put all its ground forces in Gaza because it was preparing attacks on Iran. Then there were reports it was planning attacks on Lebanon. It is a lunatic state."
Israel has "tried to use the Holocaust; it was funny in a very sick way."
Israel has "relentlessly and brutally and inhumanly keeps these vicious, murderous wars."
"Sometimes I feel that Israel has come out of the boils of the hell, a satanic state."
One of Finkelstein's stocks in trade is to use others to do his dirty work for him. He will therefore selectively quote Israeli journalists, academics and politicians and so-called human rights advocates to make the anti-Israel points he seeks to make. He will even say "Don't take my word for it, but check (the quoted source) for yourself."
Notice on this video how he twists around the facts: http://www.cafemom.com/group/99198/forums/read/11096263/Norman_Finkelstein_replies_to_a_Jewish_girls_question_PIOG
Sample Questions:
Why is it that you fail to criticize or condemn the many attacks by Palestinian-Arabs against Jewish civilians in Israel?
Why do you fail to condemn Palestinian-Arab official media which encourages and glorifies the murder of Jews?
Hamas has a charter that calls for the murder of every Jewish man, woman and child. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has said "there is no solution to the conflict in this region except with the disappearance of Israel (The Age. July 15, 2006) and "If they (Jews) all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide" (October 23, 2002, Daily Star) and yet you laud them. Why is that?
Why do you hide behind the words of others to make your points? Isn't that cowardly?
Why are you not on a college faculty today, and doesn't that reflect the fact that you have no credibility within academia?
For more on Finkelstein, see: http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/11071
More information about Thursday's event:
Hillel of Philadelphia has put out a background report about Finkelstein, which notes in part: "In the past when audience members have tried to present an alternative view during Finkelstein's presentations he has twisted their words in frustrating ways so we ask that audience members consider carefully the tone and length of statements made at the event in an effort to minimize his ability to twist and distort the pro-Israel message into fuel for his cause. Below are specific details about the event including security restrictions.
"Both entrances will require a swipe or signature to sign into the building and the table will be manned by a Temple Security Guard. There will also be additional Temple University police at each entrance and inside the building as well.
"After Finklestein speaks, we are permitted to hand out palm cards and fliers to be distributed on the sidewalks outside of the building. Nothing can be distributed inside of the building or at the entrances to the building.
"After the distribution of the flyers there will be a space at the Edward H. Rosen Hillel building for students to express how they felt at the event. There is also a room reserved at Hillel the next day from 12 pm-4 pm to speak about how people are feeling post Finkelstein.
Israel Apartheid Week (April 11-15)
"According to the Temple Police, the Students for Justice in Palestine are permitted to have a model of a caterpillar bulldozer and an Apartheid Wall at the Bell Tower. They are not permitted to prevent people from walking through the bell tower and are not permitted to create checkpoints. If people see this happening they are instructed to call campus police at 215-204-1234.
"OUR RESPONSE:
"Students are asked to reach out to their friends and wear pro-Israel apparel the whole week on campus
"Temple Students for Israel have a table at Liacouras Walk on April 12 where will be handing out fliers disputing what SJP is saying at the Bell Tower
"A Screening of the movie Crossing the Line for the public is being scheduled
"Pro-Israel students are handing out palm cards and fliers that are permitted to be distributed on the sidewalks around the Bell Tower, but not at the Bell Tower.
"We will be having a Jam for Peace where students will be handing out palm cards of positive facts about Israel, and promoting peace (Temple staff and faculty encouraged to join!)"

Time To Act Like Grownups
After Speaker Boehner refused to give in to Democrat demands yesterday on the budget, President Obama ran to the cameras and attempted to portray himself as the only adult in the room. Obama scolded Boehner and congressional Republicans for not having completed the 2011 budget yet.
Obama said it was "inexcusable" for Congress still to be dealing with "last year's business" and added, "there's no reason why we should not get this done." He also suggested that congressional Republicans were behaving like children and that the American people expected them to "act like grownups." The liberal media loved the spin and dutifully portrayed the president as the only adult in the room.
But we are dealing with "last year's business" because there were no adults in charge last year -- Reid and Pelosi failed to pass a budget last year. Somehow that fact has escaped the notice of most journalists. In response to Obama's comments, Speaker Boehner's office released a chronology of events detailing how the Democrats repeatedly dropped the ball.
Budget talks are continuing today, but the clock is ticking, and so far neither side seems willing to bend. Meanwhile, Obama has left Washington to make a speech in Philadelphia this afternoon and to address Al Sharpton's national convention later tonight in New York.
Ryan Hugs Third Rail
House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan's budget proposal to slash trillions in spending has been a hot topic of debate over the past 24 hours. Commentators have said that Ryan has dared to grab the "third rail" of politics -- entitlement spending -- with both hands. Ryan makes no apologies and insists that he's not just grabbing the third rail, but "hugging it."
That's leadership for you. Ryan is treating the American people like adults, betting that they are smart enough to comprehend the severity of the fiscal crisis that now confronts our country. I hope he is right. But even Ryan acknowledges that he is handing the Democrats a "political weapon."
We have to acknowledge that there is a reason why Nancy Pelosi said yesterday that Ryan's budget would "deprive seniors of meals;" why the new head of the Democrat National Committee said Ryan's plan was a "death trap for seniors;" and why one liberal group is already running ads against the plan: These scare tactics work!
I support Ryan's goal and admire his courage. But we cannot forget just how many Americans benefit from some form of government assistance. Every program has a constituency of its own, and there are major risks in taking on big ideas. Just look at the situation in Wisconsin.
Governor Scott Walker and the Republican legislature acted on their electoral mandate to cut spending, and the left turned the capitol into a mob scene. Walker's approval rating plunged. And as of 11:00 AM, the Associated Press reported that conservative Supreme Court Justice David Prosser was trailing his liberal challenger by fewer than 300 votes.
The left and the labor unions spent millions on this race knowing it would flip control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. If the results hold, the tremendous effort by Gov. Walker and conservative legislators to rein in spending will be undone by the new liberal majority on the state Supreme Court.
This is the reality of the fight we are in right now, and the future of our country hangs in the balance. We cannot afford for conservatives to lose key elections like the Wisconsin Supreme Court race by a few hundred votes next year. We cannot afford for the presidential contest to hinge on a few hundred votes in key states like Florida or Ohio.
So, my friends, I hope you'll forgive me if my appeals for support seem urgent, even upsetting. The times are urgent and upsetting. We need adult leadership and I believe we can prevail IF we can avoid being dramatically outspent by the left.
And here's some encouraging news: A conservative parody of Obama's reelection video is getting more views than the real thing!
ObamaCare Takes Another Hit
Last year Nancy Pelosi glibly remarked about ObamaCare that Democrats had to "pass the bill so [the public] can find out what was in it." The more we learn about it, the less we like it.
ObamaCare took another hit yesterday when the Senate followed the House's lead and voted to repeal the absurdly burdensome 1099 IRS reporting requirement. The overwhelming 87-to-12 vote was yet another reminder of all that is wrong with this socialized medicine scheme, which Democrats rushed to pass without reading.
We can also look to countries with socialized medicine to learn what happens when bureaucrats take over our healthcare. The BBC reported yesterday that more and more doctors are expressing frustration with growing government restrictions on common surgeries in Great Britain.
For example, some patients are now waiting more than six months in agonizing pain for hip and knee replacements. This may be the future of medicine in America if conservatives lose the 2012 election and fail to repeal ObamaCare. It is also a likely outcome if we fail to get spending under control as interest on the national debt will demand more and more of your tax dollars and there will be less money available for Medicare and Medicaid.
Rebels Turning On Us Now?
As the stalemate in Libya's civil war drags on, the rebels appear to be turning against us. Under Obama's orders, the United States has scaled back airstrikes, and Qadhafi's ground forces are on the move. Leadership of the mission has been transferred to NATO and our European allies are not able to keep up. Rebel commanders are openly complaining.
According to Britain's Sky News, one rebel leader said it can take up to eight hours for a bombing request to work its way up the chain of command. By that time, the situation on the ground has changed dramatically. Rebel commander Abdel Fattah Younes said, "NATO is moving very slowly, allowing Gaddafi forces to advance. NATO has become our problem."

Philadelphia ZOA Speaks Out Against Promotion of Event Featuring Noted Israel-Basher
The Greater Philadelphia District of the Zionist Organization of America sent out a strongly worded letter to Jewish Community Relations Council leadership over JCRC's publicizing by email an event with keynote speaker Reverend Robert Edgar. (See text of letter below)
Edgar, as you will see from our letter, has condemned Israel in the harshest of terms, encouraged President Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell to inhibit Israel's ability to defense its citizens and gave aid and comfort to Israel's enemies.
While we only pointed out our concerns about Edgar, this event is being hosted by Mishkan Shalom synagogue, whose rabbis have publicly spoken out against Israel's right to self-defense, and the Friends Center, which hosts the headquarters of the anti-Israel American Friends Service Committee. This same event also includes participation by noted Israel detractors Rabbi Mordechai Liebling and Rabbi Arthur Waskow.
March 31, 2011
Rabbi David Straus
Chairman
Mr. Adam Kessler
Executive Director
Jewish Community Relations Council
2100 Arch Street
Philadelphia, PA 19103
Dear Mr. Kessler and Rabbi Straus,
We received a JCRC email announcing an upcoming event called "Ground for Hope Philadelphia, an Interfaith Religious-Environmental Education & Training Event." We were surprised to see that Philadelphia JCRC is promoting and endorsing an event featuring Reverend Robert Edgar.
Reverend Edgar has a long record of anti-Israel activism while he headed the National Council of Churches. Edgar was not only active on behalf of those trying to destroy Israel and kill Jews - literally giving them aid and comfort -- but he also issued public statements and letters to officials seeking to erode Israel's ability to protect its citizens. We have included some examples below.
To the best of our knowledge, Rev. Edgar has not renounced these activities nor apologized for any harm to Israeli civilians that may have resulted from his actions. Nor could we find any statements clearly affirming Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State.
Please understand we have no problem with JCRC promoting religious-environmental, educational programs. But we are concerned when such programs are associated with people hostile to Israel.
We therefore call on you to reconsider JCRC's promotion of this event and ask that you issue an email announcement rescinding JCRC's endorsement because it is associated with Reverend Edgar.
Leonard Getz, our co-president, is available to discuss this matter with you at a mutually convenient time.
Thank you for your consideration.

The Senate on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to repeal the health-care law's 1099 tax-reporting provision, ending nearly a year's worth of efforts to do away with one of its most unpopular requirements. The repeal measure, which passed the House last month, now goes to President Obama for his signature.

Obama To Host Facebook Townhall On Budget

WASHINGTON -- In yet another nod to the influence of social media, President Obama announced Tuesday that he will host a townhall meeting via Facebook on April 20. The nation's budget outlook will be the primary focus of the meeting.
The announcement, made on the Facebook page of the White House, provides another strong indication of how widely used the medium has become in national politics.

Obama-Boehner Fight Gets Ugly

|
After a White House meeting with Boehner and Reid, Obama ripped Boehner for playing "games" with the process and "quibbling around the edges" of the nation's fiscal problems. Boehner then responded with a press conference of his own saying that Republicans would not be "put into a box" by the president and said Democrats are using "smoke and mirrors" to create the false appearance of spending cuts. Today is the crucial day if lawmakers mean to avoid a government shutdown. House rules require three days for legislation to be considered before a vote. The current emergency measure expires on Friday. That means if a shutdown is to be averted, Reid and his caucus would have to produce a bill today that can draw at least the seven Republican votes needed in the Senate to advance and head to the House. GOP Senators Try Again to Restrict 'Birthright Citizenship'.

|
Several Republican senators are taking another crack at preventing the children of illegal immigrants from gaining automatic U.S. citizenship. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., and three colleagues on Tuesday announced a bill that would restrict so-called "birthright citizenship" by amending the Immigration and Nationality Act. U.S. law provides that anyone born on U.S. soil is a citizen, but the proposal would change that, to require at least one parent to be a U.S. citizen, legal resident or member of the U.S. military. Allen West's $180 million in defense spending cuts legislation passes the House.

|
Rep. Allen West just had his first piece of legislation, pass the U.S. House of Representatives in a vote of 393-0. H.R. 1246, which will cut he Department of Defense printing and reproduction budget by 10%, is aimed at wasteful Defense Department spending. The cut will not affect the overall mission of the military in protecting our national security. This 10% reduction in the printing budget will save taxpayers $35.7 million in 2012 and nearly $180 million over the next five years. [FavStocks, April 5]

New DNC Chair Endorses Fringe Anti-Israel Group
RJC criticizes Wasserman Schultz's embrace of controversial J Street
Washington, D.C. (April 6, 2011) - The newly appointed chair of the Democratic National Committee, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) has sustained and controversial ties to the fringe anti-Israel lobby, J Street.
In early 2009, Wasserman Schultz hosted an event on Capitol Hill with J Street, a group then under fire for issuing a statement accusing Israel of collective punishment in Gaza and equating Israeli self-defensive measures with those of Hamas. J Street's comments were so incendiary, they drew immediate condemnation from all corners of the Jewish community, including noted liberal Rabbi Eric Yoffie, who called the group "profoundly out of touch."
Yet Wasserman Schultz, only weeks later, showed her support for J Street (here and here), calling the controversial group an "organization that supports Israel and supports peace and is working to foster an advanced peace process," placing her at odds with even the most liberal of Jewish Democrats. She also compared the group to pro-Israel stalwart AIPAC, described J Street's goals as "worthy as well," and later served as featured speaker for J Street's first annual gala event in Washington, DC, despite many of her colleagues choosing to disavow the event.
"We are deeply troubled by incoming DNC Chairman Wasserman Shultz's embrace of groups, such as J Street, that undermine Israel's security," RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said. "In blindly conferring legitimacy on fringe groups like J Street, she has raised serious questions about her own credibility and judgment."
Brooks added, "As the chairman of the DNC, Wasserman Schultz will be under increasing pressure to yield to the fringe left of the Democratic Party and further strengthen her ties to anti-Israel groups like J Street and anti-Israel donors like George Soros."

RedState Morning Briefing
For April 7, 2011
1. Are Mike Pence and Chris Christie Paying Attention?
In a pretty shocking Wall Street Journal/NBC poll Donald Trump is ranking number two among potential GOP contenders for the President. Mitt Romney edges him out by a few points into the top slot.
There is a very simple reason for this: the field is 'meh.'
Certainly partisans for the various candidates are excited about their various candidates. But the general consensus from conservatives is "none of the above." Donald Trump is filling the void right now.
Around the country I keep hearing conservatives wish Mike Pence would reconsider. But there is a growing chorus of people asking, "What do we have to do to get Chris Christie to run?"
2. ObamaCare With Jets, Stupid Human Tricks in Libya With Live Ammo.
Former Red Army Generals all across Russia must be shaking their heads in disgust. "This NATO force we lost The Cold War Too!" They perhaps yell in pained exasperation. Had the Red Army attempted to blast through the Fulda Gap, and then met the NATO Alliance that has intervened in Libya's Civil War, the Red Star would have risen over the French Riviera after two weeks of futile and one-sided combat.
NATO's operations to date in Libya have been a joke - David Letterman's Stupid Human Tricks with live ammunition. Libyan Rebel Leader Abdel Fattah Younes has asked NATO to please quit the field.
3. California's Gov. Jerry Brown Plies GOP With Wine & Urges SEIU to Buy Lunch
Oh, this is funny. Well, funny, except to the few sane Californians and businesses who have not moved out yet.
The once-golden state of California has devolved so much in its budgetary talks that its recycled governor, Jerry Brown has taken to plying Republican legislators with wine and food. In a telephone town hall with SEIU and state workers, Moonbeam Governor Brown divulged his secret to negotiations:
"Brown, who is seeking to extend higher tax rates on income, vehicles and sales, said the two sides 'enjoyed some nice wine in my office, and the next night I took them over to my loft and we poured another couple bottles of wine.'"
Brown also suggested that the SEIU should start taking Republicans to lunch more.
4. The Net Neutrality repeal vote is coming. Tell these Dems to vote Yes.
The House of Representatives is likely to vote today, Thursday, on the repeal of the FCC's Net Neutrality power grab. Using the Congressional Review Act, the repeal of the Net Neutrality order can be accomplished in an expedited way. In particular this means the bill cannot be filibustered in the Senate, so passing it means something.

When pols tell numbers to lie
By THOMAS SOWELL
April 5, 2011
When someone gives you a check, and the bank informs you that there are insufficient funds, who do you get mad at? The guy who gave you a check that bounced. But, in politics, you get mad at whoever tells you there's no money.
One secret of the growth of the welfare state is that politicians get a lot of mileage out of making promises, without setting aside enough money to fulfill those promises.
The lavish pensions promised to public-sector union members can't be paid because the money is just not there. But who are the unions mad at? Those who say that the money isn't there.

Wisconsin judicial race too close to call

The Wisconsin race between David Prosser and JoAnne Kloppenburg is too close to call. | AP Photo Close
The race for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court that has become a proxy for the state's fight over public sector unions was too close to call as of early Wednesday morning, and the vote appears headed for a recount.
With 99 percent of precincts reporting, incumbent conservative Justice David Prosser leads challenger JoAnne Kloppenberg by 585 votes out of the 1.4 million votes cast. The Associated Press stopped counting votes just before 3 a.m. ET. Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/52633.html#ixzz1Ikvl2DvI

Wisconsin union rank and file learning the dangers of blind trust in their union bosses
Apr 06, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
While statewide union thugs were busy trashing Wisconsin's capitol building and making death threats against Republicans supposedly in an effort to "protect" their members, local union bosses were busy stabbing those same members in the back.
If nothing else, the entire Wisconsin episode in union strong arm tactics has forever rip the cover off the façade that was the purported paternalism of unions toward their members. Rank and file union members are learning their union thug bosses care about - themselves and nothing else.
Selling them out
At the very moment the unions were savagely attacking anyone they thought was against their designs to keep feeding at the Wisconsin public trough, the bosses of three AFSCME Locals an SEIU local and a Wisconsin Professional Police Association (clerical workers) unions were busy selling their members out in return for their own personal benefit.
The unions of Sauk County Wisconsin, which is about 30 miles from Madison, gave up everything except ... Continue Reading:Wisconsin union rank and file learning the dangers of blind trust in their union bosses

WONDER WHY OUR COUNTRY IS BROKE???
The bread winner in the family....interesting!
I was speaking to an emergency room physician this morning. He told me that a woman in her 20s came to the ER with her 8th pregnancy. She stated, "my momma told me that I am the breadwinner for the family."
He asked her to explain. She said that she can make babies and babies get money for the family. It goes like this: The grandma calls the Department of Child and Family Services and states that the unemployed daughter is not capable of caring for these children. DCFS agrees and states that the child or children will need to go to foster care.
The grandma then volunteers to be the foster parent, and thus receives a check for $1500 per child per month in Illinois .
Total yearly income:
$144,000 tax-free, not to mention free healthcare (Medicaid) plus a monthly card entitling her to free groceries, etc, and a voucher for 250 free cell phone minutes per month. This does not even include WIC and other welfare programs.. Indeed, grandma was correct in that her fertile daughter is the "breadwinner" for the family.
This is how the ruling class spends our tax dollars.
Sebastian J. Ciancio, M.D. Urologist, Danville Polyclinic, LTD
Is this a GREAT COUNTRY or what...
Don't forget to pay your taxes!!!
There are a lot of "Breadwinners" depending on you & I |

Showdown Over A Shutdown
It has been more than 40 days since the House passed a budget for 2011, cutting spending by $61 billion. The task was left undone by the previous Democrat-controlled Congress, the first time since 1974, an embarrassing feat for a body charged with holding the purse strings. Today that task remains incomplete, and the moment until a partial government shutdown is growing near, easily measured in hours, not days. It's time for action and leadership, not press conferences and finger pointing.

Today's Headlines: Wednesday, April 06, 2011
Hoyer Won't Say Where Democrats Are Willing to Cut Spending Washington (CNSNews.com) - House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) would not say specifically where Democrats are willing to cut federal spending, offering only broad figures on an overall reduction. Hoyer criticized Republicans for limiting cuts to non-defense discretionary spending, saying "everything" needs to be on the table. The second-ranking House Democrat did not say, however, which parts of the rest of the federal budget - defense and entitlement spending - Democrats would consider cutting.
Amid Budget Impasse, Obama Meeting With Al Sharpton's Group (CNSNews.com) - Despite the budget impasse that could lead to a government shutdown - and despite his call for another White House meeting Wednesday to discuss that impasse - President Barack Obama is leaving town around noon today. First he's going to a wind turbine plant in Philadelphia to discuss his energy agenda; and then he's going to New York City to mark the 20th anniversary of Al Sharpton's National Action Network.
CBO: TARP Bank Bailout to Cost Government $19 Billion (CNSNews.com) - The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Troubled Asset Relief Program - the bank bailout package passed in October 2008 - will cost taxpayers approximately $19 billion, down from the CBO's $25 billion estimate of November 2010. The new estimate reflects the cost of the GM and Chrysler bailouts.
Rep. Ryan on Obama's Budget Path: 'Do Nothing, Punt, Duck, Kick the Can Down the Road,' Causing A 'Debt Crisis' (CNSNews.com) - House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said the House Republicans' FY2012 budget saves Medicare and helps the United States avoid a debt crisis. "It all comes down to this: Either you fix this problem now where you can guarantee people who've already organized their lives around these programs get what they have coming to them -- or you pick the President's path, which is do nothing, punt, duck, kick the can down the road and then we have a debt crisis and then its pain for everybody."
Abortion, Environmental Regulation are Priorities for Obama in Seeking Budget Compromise Washington (CNSNews.com) - President Obama said Tuesday he would not sign a budget agreement to keep the government running that cuts funding for Planned Parenthood and the Environmental Protection Agency. "What we can't be doing is using last year's budget process to have arguments about abortion, to have arguments about the Environmental Protection Agency, to try to use this budget negotiation as a vehicle for every ideological or political difference between the two parties. That's what the legislature is for, to have those arguments, but not stuff it all into one budget bill."
VA Attorney General: Republicans Should Defund Health Law Since Its Constitutionality Has Not Been Determined (CNSNews.com) - Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli told CNSNews.com that congressional Republicans should cut off funds for the implementation of the health care law until its constitutionality is determined. "I think that's entirely legitimate to do, and particularly when there is a legitimate constitutional question about whether this law should stand at all," he said. "Why pour money into an open question like that?"
GOP Budget Proposal: 'Not a Penny' for Obamacare (CNSNews.com) - The fiscal 2012 budget proposal unveiled Tuesday by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) offers sweeping reforms in federal spending, including defunding and repealing the health-care law signed last year by President Barack Obama and converting the federal share of the Medicaid program into block grants to state governments.
GOP Leaders Say Republican Return to Power Deserves as Much Credit as Stimulus for Lower Unemployment Rate (CNSNews.com) - Two House Republican leaders said the Republican takeover of the House of Representatives and Republicans' proposed spending cuts deserve as much, if not more, credit for the recent drop in the unemployment rate than the Democrats' 2009 economic stimulus package does.
Obama Administration's Policies on Trials for 9/11 Terrorists 'Cause All of Us to Grieve Anew,' Victim's Father Testifies (CNSNews.com) - David Beamer, the father of 9-11 hero Todd Beamer, slammed Attorney General Eric Holder before a congressional panel on Tuesday. "The policies of this administration cause us all to grieve anew." Although it is against House rules, members of the audience - as well as members of the subcommittee - broke into applause after some of Beamer's remarks.
As Obama Calls Mideast Peace 'Urgent,' Others Say Israel Should Not be Pushed to Relinquish Territory (CNSNews.com) - President Obama's assertion Tuesday that turmoil in the Arab world makes it more urgent to seek an Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement is precisely the opposite of what some experts are saying. They say that the uncertainty arising from the upheaval makes it even more important for Israel not to surrender territory vital to its security.
Turkey Offers to Mediate Between Iran and Arab Gulf States Over Bahrain Crisis (CNSNews.com) - Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited Bahrain on Tuesday but did not publicly voice support for Bahrain's decision last month to invite troops from Saudi Arabia and other neighbors to help restore stability. Seeking to exert its leadership in the region, Turkey has established closer ties with Tehran in recent years, to the dismay of its allies in NATO.

COMMENTARY:
Treasury: True Government Spending Topped $11 Trillion Last Year By Terence P. Jeffrey The historical tables attached to President Barack Obama's latest budget proposal show that the federal government took in $2.165 trillion in revenues in fiscal 2010 and spent $3.720 trillion, leaving a federal deficit of approximately $1.555 trillion. But the true story is evening more horrible. True federal spending for fiscal 2010 was $11.5 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury. Our federal government is an exhausted man desperately treading water in a deep sea of debt.
The Failed Couric Experiment By L. Brent Bozell III The news leaked out Monday that Katie Couric is stepping down from her failed experiment as the anchor of the "CBS Evening News." It's surprising that Couric didn't get the boot years ago, as CBS's ratings cratered. Couric didn't fail at this job because she was the first female nightly news anchor. She lacked authority because she was such a blatant feminist and liberal activist. And no one imagines that Katie Couric's replacement on CBS means less liberalism.
The Democrats' Friends 'n Fat Cats Protection Plan By Michelle Malkin As the budget stalemate in Washington continues, Democrats are ratcheting up their class-warfare caterwauling. The left's overheated rhetoric about pandering to overpaid executives comes just as an independent inspector general has exposed lavish compensation packages for politically connected Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bureaucrats. While Nancy Pelosi demagogues Republican budget cuts for depriving kids and seniors of their meals, the Beltway-sponsored Fannie and Freddie behemoths have been devouring taxpayers' lunches for years.
Othodoxy Rich Galen I am fully in the camp of the Tea Party when I say: "Shut 'er down." Shut down the government when the Continuing Resolution runs out on Friday. Here's why. By shutting the government down on Friday, the House Majority will signal President Obama and Senate Democrats that Republicans mean business, and they are willing to put their seats on the line to do what they had promised.

Thanks For Raising My Taxes-- What Else Can I Do For You? by Ann Coulter
When Wisconsin Democrats fled the state in order to avoid voting on splendiferous public sector union contracts, did they happen to notice that the rest of the country is in the midst of a massive recession?
For years, Democrats have been using taxpayer money so that their buddies in public sector unions never have to know when there's a recession. People who are already suffering have to suffer more so that those who are doing pretty well don't have to suffer at all.
The high salaries and magnificent benefits paid to government employees are used to fund the public sector unions, which then funnel a portion of that money back to the Democrats, who vote for the pay packages of government workers. The unions function as a pass-through from the taxpayers straight to Democrats running for re-election.
As a result, taxpayers are paying people to continually raise their taxes
In 2010, three of the five top campaign contributors to the Democrats were public sector unions. Service Employees International was No. 2 at $11.6 million in campaign contributions to Democrats, the National Education Association was No. 3 at $8 million, and the American Federation of Teachers was No. 5 at $7 million. (To put that in perspective, that's even more than the $1 million given to Obama in 2008 by his second-largest contributor, Goldman Sachs!)
Liberals don't love big government because they think it's efficient, compassionate, fair or even remotely useful. They support big government because they are guaranteed the support of nearly everyone who works for the government.
Public sector employee contracts are written by the union and rubber-stamped by Democrats -- and the taxpayers only find out years later that public school teachers are allowed to get a full year's pay for 30 days' work over three years after they retire -- as is the case in Green Bay, Wis., where one out of every 12 teachers retired this year to take advantage of the "emeritus" scam.

SAF FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG
The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a lawsuit with New York State Rifle & Pistol Association and five NYC residents against Mayor Bloomberg and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, challenging the oppressive New York City gun permit fee.
The fee is an excessive barrier to liberty that burdens the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
New York City charges residents $340 for a permit to keep a handgun in their homes, and an additional charge of $94.25 for a fingerprint check!
Under State Law, the maximum fee for a handgun license is TEN DOLLARS... but the law exempts New York City.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, enemy of Second Amendment freedoms, is therefore using this loophole to charge an exorbitant fee that discourages city residents from obtaining a handgun permit.
We ask for your urgent support in helping us fund this legal action to protect the Second Amendment rights of New York City residents, and all Americans. This is a critical time in the fight against anti-gun rhetoric, most especially after the tragedy in Tucson. Please help the Second Amendment Foundation force States to adhere to the United States Constitution. Your donation will make a big difference. We need your help to fund our legal efforts today.
The fee is, in essence, a poll tax on the right to keep and bear arms. It discourages city residents from exercising their civil rights while violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
This is a bigoted action against poor people the same way the poll tax effort years ago was a way to prevent poor people from exercising their right to vote.
Poll taxes were intended to marginalize black Americans, and the poor, from voting. In 1966, the Supreme Court declared that poll taxes in state elections violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment---and we are certain this onerous fee is a violation, as well---because it is intended to marginalize the rights of law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms and keep them in their homes. The $340 also turns a protected Constitutional right into a privilege for the rich and well-connected.
The 24th Amendment prevents States from imposing a voting fee. Our lawsuit, like the 24th Amendment, will make sure we prevent a billionaire like Bloomberg from saying that only people who can afford to pay a $340 permit fee can own a gun.
We must stop Mayor Bloomberg and NY City NOW, before cities like yours decide to copy them and impose the $340 fee on you.
The 24th Amendment to the Constitution states:
Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. |
Please help the Second Amendment Foundation defend the rights of all Americans to own firearms! Your donation will make a big difference. We need your help to fund our legal efforts today.
If we allow this fee to stand as a barrier against one of our Constitutional freedoms, what are we going to allow them to charge us for next? Will we let them charge us for free speech? Will we let them charge us to freely assemble? Will we let them charge us to worship as we please?

On Wednesday's Program
Summer of Insurrection?
Glenn warns that things are about to really start heating up around the globe. The people (and there are many) who want to see an end to the Western way of life are doing their best to take advantage of the multiple crisis situations around the globe. Glenn highlights leftists siding with radical Islam in France as just one of the many indicators that things are about to get real dicey. Could this be the summer of insurrection? Glenn has more on radio today.
Government Shutdown? Obama wants 'grown up' discussions
The prospect of the government shutting down is supposed to sound scary, but these days it actually seems like it'd be a nice reprieve. Obama is heading out of town as the budget deadline looms (of course) but demanded grown up discussions take place - that's chuckle worthy coming from the guy who spends like a teenage girl with Daddy's credit card. Get the latest on the budget showdown and its implications HERE.
Anti-Obama protester attacked, beaten
In the peace-loving, pacifist practicing city of San Francisco, it seems rather unlikely that someone protesting Obama would get beat to a bloody pulp. Perhaps less unlikely for San Francisco, the anti-Obama protester was even further to the LEFT of Obama. No word on if Nancy Pelosi is crying somewhere, worried about a repeat of San Francisco decades ago. Glenn reacts on radio, get the full story HERE.
Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts announce new agreement - Get the details HERE.
This is what Democracy looks like! Egyptians say they are worse off post Mubarak
What started out as an uprising that many said brought jubilation and even humor to Egypt again, has ended up even worse off than before it began. A few weeks ago in Tahrir Square, classics like "Nasser was killed by poison, Sadat by a bullet and Mubarak by Facebook" aren't quite as funny anymore. Virginity checks, the Muslim Brotherhood taking root, and other troubling signs have them more fearful than optimistic. Glenn has more from radio today.
Glenn nominated for Time's Most Influential list
Glenn talks a lot about principles and values on the program. Although it's not officially listed, one of the unwritten universal principles is that no Korean pop stars or Chinese race car drivers should ever place higher on the Time 100's Most Influential list. But that's exactly what is happening. Don't let this assault on your values go unanswered. Vote for Glenn now!
Chris Matthews claim: I created Michele Bachmann
That's a very peculiar claim, since Michele Bachmann was elected long before Chris Matthews even knew who she was. Plus, Matthews's TV audience is so sparse he could be talking about Bachmann every day and it would have an approximate impact of ZERO. Get the full, mostly sad story of a guy who thinks he's way more influential than he really is.
