Quote:
"Public virtue cannot exist in a nation without private, and public virtue is the only foundation of republics. There must be a positive passion for the public good, the public interest, honour, power and glory, established in the minds of the people, or there can be no republican government, nor any real liberty: and this public passion must be superiour to all private passions."

RedState Morning Briefing
For April 6, 2011
Just a quick note here. Justice David Prosser is trading a ridiculously slim lead of a few thousand votes in Wisconsin against the union backed Joann Kloppenburg and, depending on which hour you are reading this, the leader could change. This race is going to a recall.
Most significantly, unions poured both their hearts and resources into defeating Justice Prosser. That the jury is out on that suggests an aggressive union push against an underfunded and understaffed effort for Justice Prosser drew even. That does not suggest unions will have much success with their recall efforts if they are at parity in a statewide race with a money and manpower advantage.
There are, this morning, many union leaders and Democrats not too thrilled by what happened last night in Wisconsin.
1. Gee, I don't *feel* rich
We saw it coming, didn't we?
"It's not that I want to punish your success," Obama explained. "I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too. My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ! I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
Of course that was then-candidate Barack Obama, in response to Joe "The Plumber" Wurzlebacher's question "Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?". Obama's response was widely recognized (and condemned) as a "tell" of Obama's love for socialism. But that was just the beginning. That love for socialism was one of the few "campaign promises" that he actually fulfilled, as he and his Democrat cronies rammed through a leftist ideology-fest of spending that bloated the government - and our national debt - to previously unheard-of heights.
"Soak the rich" is a time-tested philosophy for the Democrats. And the idea lives on, now embodied by the "income inequality" socialists. Inciting class warfare in the name of "equality" or "fairness" is one of the Left's favorite tactics. In the March 2nd NYT, Robert Frank invokes the spectre of inequality, this time in the guise of a so-called "toil index". The interesting (and silly) aspect of Frank's assertions is the idea of using "family goals" as an indicator of the "cost" of inequality.
2. The Administration Claims The Senate Approved Libyan Intervention
The Obama Administration is trying to avoid the inevitable fallout from their decision to intervene in the civil insurrection in Libya without so much as a by-your-leave to Congress. While the Administration has taken time to consult with the UN and the Arab League, apparently similar consultations with the Legislative Branch are just déclassé and an affront to the dignity of our demigod at 1600 Pennsylvania. Now they are trying to obscure their record.
3. The Nobel Peace Prize, Falo Delle Vanita and The Zionist Regime
It would appear that Egypt's rebirth as a modern nation was extraordinarily short-lived. The Muslim Brotherhood has made peace with the Egyptian military. The Brotherhood has also seemingly reached a political deal with the partisans of Hosni Mubarak's old party. As a result of all of this wheeling and dealing, The Muslim Brotherhood now has vastly more power than the demonstrators for reform and modernity who were the face of the Egyptian Revolution.
4. Paul Ryan's Budget: In No Way Extreme, Despite Democrat Histrionics
Paul Ryan, House Budget Committee Chairman, released his FY 2012 Budget proposal. The comprehensive proposal includes plans for the way forward over the next decade. You can read an excellent and full analysis of it here.
Former Speaker (I love saying that) Nancy Pelosi of course immediately set to whining and wringing hands over how the Ryan plan will cause people TO DIE!!!!1111
5. Ryan's Budget: A Conservative View- The Excellent, the Good, and the Need for Improvement
The moment we have been anticipating has finally arrived. House Budget Committee Chairman has released his budget for FY 2012, along with his blueprint for tax and entitlement reform over the next decade. This budget proposal, which would cut $5.8 trillion from the CBO baseline over the next decade, is a mature and well balanced plan emanating from a city full of fatuous demagoguery.
It is important to note that this is just the preliminary proposal of the very first step of the congressional budget process; the Concurrent Budget Resolution. There will be ample time to sort through all of the components of this plan and provide the appropriate changes as needed. Nonetheless, it is a laudable first step that has come to fruition through the assiduous work of Paul Ryan and his Republican colleagues on the Budget Committee. It is a fresh breath of moderation and seriousness amidst the extremism that is so endemic in Washington among the Democrats. Here is a cursory breakdown of some of the major provisions of the Ryan plan, categorized by the excellent, the good, and the need for improvement.
6. By the Dozens: Unions Stage Not-So-Massive "We Are One" Rallies
What do you do if you spend tens of thousands to plan hundreds of rallies on the same day and you get ignored? Did you see the thousands of union protesters yesterday? Surely you saw the several million workers that CWA President Larry Cohen said "were going to stop business as usual at work or after work to join vigils, community rallies or marches at statehouses." You didn't see them either? Well, that may be because the day of solidarity that the AFL-CIO had been promoting for weeks, to co-opt coincide with the anniversary of Martin Luther King's assassination was a flop.

"The more we do to you, the less you seem to believe we are doing
Action Alert from the Greater Philadelphia District, Zionist Organization of America
Action:
Noted anti-Israel academic Norman Finkelstein will speak on the topic "Fall of the Arab Despots: Israel Next?" on Thursday, April 7, at 6 p.m., at Temple University Main Campus, at Ritter Hall, southwest corner of 13th St. and Montgomery Ave., Philadelphia, in the Walk Auditorium. Walk Auditorium holds approximately 200 people.
Norman Finkelstein has a long record of anti-Israel activity, including frequent lectures on campuses, appearances at rallies and media, and even going to anti-Israel strongholds in the Middle East. In addition to his outrageously false charges about Israel and unsubstantiated claims, he frequently expresses support for Hamas and Hezb'Allah, both designated as terrorist groups by the U.S. government. He will no doubt bring his falsehoods, propaganda and support of terrorists to Temple University.
We urge you to attend to monitor what he says, and if possible, ask questions that will shatter his credibility and bring out the truth about Israel and the Arab/Muslim war against the Jewish people. See sample questions below.
Plan to arrive early.
There will be two available entrances to Ritter Hall that evening: One on Montgomery Avenue and one on Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The event is free and open to the public, but the university has set ground rules. See below for details.
If you can attend this event, please send ZOA and email in advance at zoa@netreach.net
Alumni or those who know Temple University should contact the university or those trustees to see if any university funds were used to pay for Finkelstein's lecture.
Thank you.
Background:
Sponsors of Finkelstein's talk are: Temple Students for Justice in Palestine, Muslim Student Association (Temple Branch), Philadelphia Jews for a Just Peace, Christian-Jewish Allies, American Muslims for Palestine, International Socialist Organization (Temple Branch), PRAWN ("Philadelphia Regional Anti-War Network"), Socialist Action, Philly Against War, Philly BDS, SUSTAIN ("Stop U.S. Aid Tax Aid to Israel Now"), Bubbes and Zaydes for Peace in the Middle East, Philly Gaza Action. This talk is being promoted by Code Pink and other radical groups.
He can be seen and heard on YouTube clips saying the following:
n Rally in New York City July 29, 2006: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpFmxnwQ9Bw
Israel, in trying to stop Hezbollah and threatening Hezbollah "is using Nazi language."
"Right now, and I say it publicly, right now we are all Hezbollah. All of us."
"Every victory of Hezbollah over the vandals and the marauders, the invaders and the murderers; every victory by Hezbollah over Israel is also a victory for liberty and a victory for freedom."
The United States' "only purpose and being is to enslave the Arab people."
Israel's only purpose is "to wreak murder, wreak havoc, destroy, level, pulverize, flatten, cleanse; if that's tour purpose; if that's your raison d'etre - then you've lost your right to be there" in the Middle East
"Hezbollah is not, thank goodness, the PLO. They're serious, they're committed, they're determined"
"Those who do not -- the monsters and freaks in the White House and their collaborators in Tel Aviv -- so far as I'm concerned they can all drop dead."
n On Press TV 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE__9yJf1hM
Hezb'allah is a "resistance movement"
"I would like to see Nasrallah become 'Man of the Year' because he's the only principled leader in the Middle East."
"The people of Gaza are being martyred; they're being crucified."
n 2008 Lebanon TV interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-D32ZYZLsQ
"I was, of course, happy to meet the Hezb'allah people because that's a point of view that's rarely heard in the United States. And I have no problem saying that I do want to express solidarity with them."
Israel like the Nazis, and Hezbollah is like the Communists/Soviets who fought the Nazis.
"Even Hitler didn't want war. He would have much preferred to have accomplished his aims peacefully if he could."
"Israel has to suffer a defeat."
n In the European journal "Today's Zaman," Finkelstein told a reporter on January 19, 2009:
Israel was a "terrorist state" created by the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948. In praising Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish people for their courage in supporting Palestinian-Arabs, Finkelstein referred to Israel as a "satanic" and "lunatic" state.
He claimed "Hamas was becoming moderate"
He accused Israel's 2008-2009 operation in Gaza "a slaughter, a massacre."
" While the rest of the world wants peace, Europe wants peace, the US wants peace, but this state wants war, war and war. In the first week of the massacres, there were reports in the Israeli press that Israel did not want to put all its ground forces in Gaza because it was preparing attacks on Iran. Then there were reports it was planning attacks on Lebanon. It is a lunatic state."
Israel has "tried to use the Holocaust; it was funny in a very sick way."
Israel has "relentlessly and brutally and inhumanly keeps these vicious, murderous wars."
"Sometimes I feel that Israel has come out of the boils of the hell, a satanic state."
One of Finkelstein's stocks in trade is to use others to do his dirty work for him. He will therefore selectively quote Israeli journalists, academics and politicians and so-called human rights advocates to make the anti-Israel points he seeks to make. He will even say "Don't take my word for it, but check (the quoted source) for yourself."
Notice on this video how he twists around the facts: http://www.cafemom.com/group/99198/forums/read/11096263/Norman_Finkelstein_replies_to_a_Jewish_girls_question_PIOG
Sample Questions:
Why is it that you fail to criticize or condemn the many attacks by Palestinian-Arabs against Jewish civilians in Israel?
Why do you fail to condemn Palestinian-Arab official media which encourages and glorifies the murder of Jews?
Hamas has a charter that calls for the murder of every Jewish man, woman and child. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has said "there is no solution to the conflict in this region except with the disappearance of Israel (The Age. July 15, 2006) and "If they (Jews) all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide" (October 23, 2002, Daily Star) and yet you laud them. Why is that?
Why do you hide behind the words of others to make your points? Isn't that cowardly?
Why are you not on a college faculty today, and doesn't that reflect the fact that you have no credibility within academia?
For more on Finkelstein, see: http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/11071
More information about Thursday's event:
Hillel of Philadelphia has put out a background report about Finkelstein, which notes in part: "In the past when audience members have tried to present an alternative view during Finkelstein's presentations he has twisted their words in frustrating ways so we ask that audience members consider carefully the tone and length of statements made at the event in an effort to minimize his ability to twist and distort the pro-Israel message into fuel for his cause. Below are specific details about the event including security restrictions.
"Both entrances will require a swipe or signature to sign into the building and the table will be manned by a Temple Security Guard. There will also be additional Temple University police at each entrance and inside the building as well.
"After Finklestein speaks, we are permitted to hand out palm cards and fliers to be distributed on the sidewalks outside of the building. Nothing can be distributed inside of the building or at the entrances to the building.
"After the distribution of the flyers there will be a space at the Edward H. Rosen Hillel building for students to express how they felt at the event. There is also a room reserved at Hillel the next day from 12 pm-4 pm to speak about how people are feeling post Finkelstein.
Israel Apartheid Week (April 11-15)
"According to the Temple Police, the Students for Justice in Palestine are permitted to have a model of a caterpillar bulldozer and an Apartheid Wall at the Bell Tower. They are not permitted to prevent people from walking through the bell tower and are not permitted to create checkpoints. If people see this happening they are instructed to call campus police at 215-204-1234.
"OUR RESPONSE:
"Students are asked to reach out to their friends and wear pro-Israel apparel the whole week on campus
"Temple Students for Israel have a table at Liacouras Walk on April 12 where will be handing out fliers disputing what SJP is saying at the Bell Tower
"A Screening of the movie Crossing the Line for the public is being scheduled
"Pro-Israel students are handing out palm cards and fliers that are permitted to be distributed on the sidewalks around the Bell Tower, but not at the Bell Tower.
"We will be having a Jam for Peace where students will be handing out palm cards of positive facts about Israel, and promoting peace (Temple staff and faculty encouraged to join!)"

Dear Patriot,
Western Civilization is dying. The people of the West are sick not only in the outward conditions of our social and political life, not only in the loss of the control of our destiny, but in many respects the very values and ideals on which we prided ourselves, and upon which guided our course and propelled the Western peoples on all fronts.
Western Civilization - including the United States - is at a crossroads. And the question before us is: Which Way Western Man?
To discuss this subject we have two excellent presenters who will address this question with facts, figures and solutions.
First up we will host Peter Brimelow, author of the national best-seller, "Alien Nation: Common Sense About America's Immigration Disaster" and Editor of VDare.com. Our second speaker will be Louis March, author of, "Immigration and the End of Self Government" and Chairman of the Representative Government Education Foundation. Mr. March is a former senior staffer of Senator Jesse Helms.
Please join us this Wednesday, April 6th, 7pm at The Temperance House in Newtown. **PLEASE NOTE OUR CHANGE OF VENUE DUE TO WASHINGTON XING INN'S RENOVATIONS** The Temperance House is located at 5 South State Street in Newtown, Bucks County.
I look forward to seeing you this Wednesday!
All the best,
Jeff McGeary

Your children and grandchildren will be more free or less free, depending on how vigorously we defend and protect our freedoms today.
You know how the big government types Socialists have been advancing their agenda - "Just don't call us Socialists"- and they've only recently been restrained, and only a bit, by the efforts of our Tea Parties and others like us who understand the threats.
These two meetings will equip you to deal intelligently with some of today's major issues and outrages from Washington and yes, in your own township.
Knowledge is power; without it you are powerless.
So please set aside one or two evenings this week. The topics are important - vital is not too strong a word - because unless we understand what's coming at us and how to fight it, we'll lose, and our kids and grandkids will never even know what was lost.

PROGRAM: We will earn about Sustainable Development and U.N. Agenda 21, with Maggie Rodin as our Speaker. Those programs have been operating under the radar, virtually ignored by the news media, but they constitute a serious threat to freedom. Some townships in Pennsylvania have already bought in to them.

Again, try to arrive around 5:00 in order to finish your meal before the program starts at 6:00
PROGRAM: Our featured speaker will be Loren Spivack on Economic Literacy. Discover what most citizens andpoliticians alike don't know about Free Market Economics. 1. Can you explain why some tax cuts (Bush's second term, Obama's proposed) do absolutely nothing to stimulate the economy, while others (Reagan's, Bush's first term) provide a great stimulus? 2. Were you taught in High School that the federal government needs to protect consumers from corporate monopolies that would otherwise be able to charge whatever they wanted? 3. Were you taught that Roosevelt's New Deal saved the country by intervening in the economy and "stimulating" demand? 4. Did you know that the biggest problem with American healthcare (one that is financially hurting us all) is that there is far too much insurance coverage? 5. Would you be surprised to learn that the economic theories espoused by the current administration and congressional leaders were conclusively disproved more than 100 years ago? A free society cannot survive unless the people understand what is going on. Loren Spivack, The Free Market Warrior, has committed himself to helping an entire generation of Americans understand how economics works. The information is given in straightforward accessible format, with the goal of preparing a new "army" of regular Americans ready and equipped to fight for freedom, in that area where freedom is most crucial: our economic lives.
Loren Lives in Massachusetts with his wife (of 25 years) and their 6 children. For more information on conducting a two-session seminar with your group,Loren can be contacted at 718-614-4411 or LORENSPIVACK@GMAIL.COM

The organization sponsoring Nonie Darwish's appearance is the student organization, Temple University Purpose.
On Tuesday, April 12th (7:00 PM), we are having a very important, urgent event on the-oppressive and lagging human rights-women, homosexuals, minorities, non-Islamic religions-under Shari'a Law both abroad and here in United States. We recognize that part of what adds to the conflict is that in Islamic countries there is no separation mosque and state. Of course, therein lays the problem because to question any Government entity is to question Allah and that is a crime punishable in various ways, depending on who you are. This ultimately suppresses freedom of speech and encourages and perpetuates a torturous cycle of suppression of thought and expression.
There will be a Q&A at the end.
The event is meant to raise awareness of the horrific human crimes/conditions of persons both abroad and in America under Shari'a Law.
You can also find our Facebook event page here where you can confirm and through which you can invite as many persons as you'd like: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=198614740160991
If you aren't familiar with our organization Temple University Purpose, we are an aggressive, inclusive Political/Advocacy student organization that does not subscribe to political correctness. We are neither politically nor religiously affiliated. However, one shouldn't mistake us as a neutral organization because that implies that one stands for nothing - we, however, stand for a lot. And, in this particular case, we stand for the human rights of all.
We pride ourselves in introducing conversations and creating a dialogue and debates on issues that otherwise would be omitted from the Temple University arena of thought and debate.
You can find our entire mission on our Facebook page here: tinyurl.com/tupurpose
Go here for a map of the campus to make it easier for those driving (and walking) to find parking and their way to the building: http://www.temple.edu/maps/documents/TUMain_map.pdf

4. Climate Change and Renewable Energy
Thursday, April 28, The Moose, Doylestown, PA
The News Media bombards us daily with warnings about the dire consequences of climate change. Rising seas, hurricanes, droughts and floods are projected results of man-made global warming. Political leaders, academics, scientists, and the United Nations have placed mankind on a course to try to stop global warming.
But is all this really correct? Contrary to popular Consensus, Steve Goreham, Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America and author of Climatism! Science, Common Sense, and the 21st Century's Hottest Topic, will argue that global warming is due to natural cycles of the Earth and not greenhouse gas emissions. Our Federal and State governments are pursuing policies that won't affect the climate but will have a major negative impact on
each American Citizen.
This Discussion is not to be missed! Please join us and you will learn what you can do to influence the debate with your elected officials! More Information: http://www.climatism.net/
|
4. Local Candidates Forum
Thursday, May 12, The Moose, Doylestown, PA
We are still working out the details and inviting candidates, but this will be a great opportunity to meet patriots who have stood up to be counted - literally - and are looking to serve on local school boards, county row offices and municipal positions. We'll provide more information as we get closer to the date.
We look forward to seeing you all at each of these events.
Yours in Liberty, The Kitchen Table Patriots

THIS EVENING I PROPOSE to take on one of the greatest libels in the English language: the description of economics as "the dismal science." I hold a different view-that when it comes to seeing the potential in even the most desperate citizens of this earth, our economists, business leaders, and champions of a commercial republic are often far ahead of our progressives, artists, and humanitarians. And therein lies my tale.

Chalk up another courtroom victory for the victims of Palestinian terrorism against the Palestinian Authority (PA) and PLO. This past week a federal judge in New York ruled that a lawsuit seeking billions of dollars in compensation and punitive damages from the Palestinians can go forward. The case, brought by 11 American families, alleges that the PA and PLO funded and directed the terrorist Fatah Tanzim and Martyrs of al-Aqsa organizations during the Intifada. During the years relevant to the lawsuit, 2001 to 2004, the defendants are accused of numerous Jerusalem-area terrorist attacks that killed 33 people and wounded hundreds of others including many U.S. citizens.
The 11 families had loved ones killed and injured in the Hebrew University cafeteria bombing, suicide bombings on King George Street and a shooting on Jaffe Road as well as other Jerusalem area attacks. The plaintiffs contend that the PA and PLO under Arafat's direction had a formal policy of carrying out terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and sought, as is their custom, to hide behind front-groups such as Fatah Tanzim and the Martyrs of al-Aqsa in order to provide a measure of deniability internationally. The Fatah Tanzim and Martyrs of al-Aqsa groups were secretly made up of Arafat's security personnel and were financed by the PA.
When the case proceeds to trial it will provide the best platform yet to publicly present proof that despite its obligations under the Oslo Accords and all its international posturing and denials, that the PA itself was actively engaged in terrorist attacks and attempted to utilize the suicide bombings and shootings as a tactic to strengthen its hand in its negotiations with Israel. Far from a "spontaneous uprising" the case will evidence that the Intifada was actually planned and carried out under Arafat's supervision by terrorists on his payroll.
The Palestinian defendants sought to have the case dismissed on technicalities and argued that they do not have adequate contacts with the U.S. to be forced to litigate this proceeding there. They claimed the U.S. court did not have personal jurisdiction over them. The federal court rejected this argument and held that the PA and PLO do in fact have a presence and conduct business in the U.S., and as such, American citizens can sue them in court there. With the court's jurisdiction over the Palestinians established it is hopeful that the case will now move forward swiftly.

New hate crimes study refutes the propaganda about increase in anti-Muslim violence
Various Islamist groups such as CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations) have gone to great lengths in the past several months to promote the narrative that violence against Muslims in America is on the rise.
Of course, they are painting this narrative in order to claim that alleged "Islamophobia" is the cause.
The problem is the facts don't support their propaganda, as noted in the Center for Security Policy release below (highlights added) that came out last week.
If anything, the facts attest to the greatness of America-that we can have a robust national discussion about the threat of radical Islam, including congressional hearings, without it leading to a violent backlash against Muslims.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Study on Hate Crimes Debunks the Myth of a Growing Trend in Muslim Victimization
Washington, DC, March 29, 2011 - The Center for Security Policy today released a revised edition of their groundbreaking longitudinal study, Religious Bias Crimes 2000-2009: Muslim, Jewish and Christian Victims - Debunking the Myth of a Growing Trend in Muslim Victimization, based on FBI statistics reported annually in the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The Center's study contradicts the assertions that religious bias crimes against Muslims have increased, and that the alleged cause is widespread "Islamophobia" in America. In fact, the study shows that religious bias crimes - also known as hate crimes - against Muslim Americans, measured by the categories of incidents, offenses or victims, have remained relatively low with a downward trend since 2001, and are significantly less than the numbers of bias crimes against Jewish victims.
The Center's study also contradicts the assumption of increased hate crimes against Muslims which has been asserted by Senator Richard Durbin's (D-IL) Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution, and is the topic of hearings being held today. Printed copies of the study were delivered to each member of the U.S. Senate early this morning.
According to the Center's analysis, in 2009, Jewish victims of hate crimes outnumbered Muslim victims by more than 8 to 1 (1,132 Jewish victims to 132 Muslim victims). From 2000 through 2009, for every one hate crime incident against a Muslim, there were six hate crime incidents against Jewish victims (1,580 Muslim incidents versus 9,692 Jewish incidents). Even in 2001 when religious bias crimes against Muslims increased briefly for a nine-week period, total anti-Muslim incidents, offenses and victims remained approximately half of the corresponding anti-Jewish totals.
The study provides hard data that disproves the counterfactual statements made by a small number of highly vocal Muslim lobbying groups, many linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as leftwing activists. Citing these false assumptions concerning America's alleged "Islamophobia" and a supposed rising trend in hate crimes against Muslim Americans, these organizations argued against holding the March 10, 2011 House Committee on Homeland Security hearings on Muslim American radicalization, and have argued for today's hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution . The study shows that these arguments against the March 10 hearings, and for today's March 29 hearings, are not based on facts but rather on a political agenda.
Frank Gaffney, President of Center for Security Policy remarked:
This report is important because it exposes a false belief perpetuated by a few vocal groups that religious bias crimes against Muslims are on the upswing. The truth is quite the opposite. These arguments, unsubstantiated by hard factual data, are corrosive to community relationships at every level of American society, and a potential threat to national security.

SHOULDN'T OBAMA ASK ASSAD TO GO
By: Joseph Puder
President Obama alienated Saudi King Abdullah when he pronounced that "Mubarak must go." Obama followed that call with another, this time for the ouster of Libya's Col. Moammar Kadafi. Neither Mubarak nor Kadafi have killed as many of their own people as have the Syrian dictators- the Assads (father Hafez Assad, and son Bashar Assad) and we have yet to hear President Obama call for "Assad to go." Rather, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has called Assad "a different leader" and a reformer, and the administration has been silent when it comes to this brutal anti-American dictator killing his own people who are demonstrating for a genuine democracy and freedom.
More significantly, unlike Libya's ostensible tribal opposition groups whose leaders ultimate purpose, and/or their relationship with the west is unknown (allegations of rebel connections with al-Qaida abound), those opposing the Syrian dictatorial regime are from the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the country, including Alawis (kinsmen of Bashar Assad, the Alawi president of Syria), as well as Kurds, Christians, Druze, and Sunni-Arabs. The Syrian Opposition seeks the abolition of the state's emergency law and demands the rule-of-law through the ballot box.
Sherkoh Abbas, one of the leaders of the Syrian opposition, and President of the Kurdistan National Assembly of Syria, contends that it is time for Syria to become a federal state which would provide protection for minorities by establishing autonomous districts governed by Alawis, Druze, Sunni Arabs (the majority) and Kurds.
Sherkoh Abbas and the Syrian opposition demand the abolition of Article VIII of the Syrian Constitution, which has heretofore given the Baath Party exclusive powers to govern. Additionally they demand the drafting of a new constitution that would represent all Syrians including Arabs and Kurds, Christians, Druze and Alawis.
During a telephone interview with the Dubai-based Abbas, he delineated further demands that have been agreed upon by all of the opposition members which include: the repeal of laws and decrees instituted by the Assad regime which allowed for the arbitrary confiscation of properties and funds and that such assets be returned to the rightful owners.
Furthermore, they want the corrupt members of the ruling Baath party held accountable and, they want the passage of strict legislation which would prosecute any such corruption in the future.
Sherkoh Abbas added a personal note, "I would like to see the abolition of the national differentiation between the two main ethnic groups in Syria: Arabs and Kurds. This would amount to ending the discrimination and persecution of Kurds, the granting of citizenship to disenfranchised Kurds, the reversing of the Arabization policies of the Assad regime, which pursued the ethnic cleansing of Kurds and their return to their historical Kurdish regions of northeastern Syria." According to Abbas, the changes should also include the abolition of the patronage system, which discriminates against Kurds in consideration for employment, and housing. Abbas believes that Syria must be governed by a system that rewards merit.
Asked what kind of a Syria he would like to see Sherkoh Abbas said, "A democratic, secular Syria that is a friend to the West, and at peace with Israel, a state that would exclude from the Muslim Brotherhood and the extreme forms of Arab nationalism from power."
Of all the Arab countries that have hitherto experienced uprisings, and whose dictators have been forced out of power (Tunisia, and Egypt, and possibly Kadafi of Libya, and Saleh of Yemen) Bashar Assad of Syria is by far the most anti-American and poses the most danger to the region. Assad's Syria is a major sponsor of terrorism and, has allowed the country to be used as a transit point for al-Qaida terrorists to enter Iraq and kill American servicemen.
As a client state of the Iranian regime, Assad co-sponsors Hezbollah terror in Syria, Lebanon and beyond, as well as Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror emanating from Gaza. Damascus serves as the headquarters for Hamas and Islamic jihad political leadership. And, it was the Syrian (under Hafez Assad) and Iranian regimes that directed Hezbollah terrorists to bomb the U.S. Embassy and the Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983, during which 241 U.S. Marines lost their lives.
Assad's Syria is also a nuclear proliferator. Syria illicitly built a North Korean supplied and Iranian funded nuclear reactor, which Israel destroyed in 2007, and has refused UN International Atomic Energy Agency inspections. Satellite imagery has revealed four illicit nuclear sites in Syria and, it is well known that Assad has stockpiled a huge array of chemical weapons.
Furthermore, Bashar Assad who was indirectly implicated in the assassination of Lebanon's (Sunni-Muslim) Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in February 2005 helped, along with Iran and Hezbollah, put an end the democratic aspirations of those who fought in the 2005 Cedar Revolution. Opposition sources report that Iranian Revolutionary Guards as well as Hezbollah operatives are currently at work in Syria, violently repressing the Syrian people's demonstrations for freedom and change. Syria, once again, has gained hegemonic power in Lebanon thanks, in large measure, to the Obama administration's inaction.
Sherkoh Abbas is hoping that this interview and other statements made by the Syrian Opposition will impress upon the international community how critical the need is to intervene in Syria in order to stop the arrests and killings of demonstrators. He suggested that the U.S. and its allies demand a UN resolution that condemns the Assad regime for the use of violence against its people. Abbas wants to see the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee hold hearings on Syria and invite representatives of the opposition, (himself included), to testify.
Asked about the threat of a Muslim Brotherhood takeover if Assad and his Alawi-led regime are ousted, Abbas replied that all segments of the Syrian opposition oppose a government led by the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). Moreover, while a MB takeover in Egypt is likely to be anti-American and anti-Israel, the Sunni-MB in Syria would not be well disposed towards the Shiite-Muslim Hezbollah, and their sponsor; the Iranian Shiite theocracy. In short, even in the unlikely event of a MB takeover in Syria, not a perfect choice to be sure, it would be a better one than the current dangerous regime of Basher Assad.
With the vast majority of Syrians, including many from Assad's own Alawis community, opposed to the regime and the increasing violence of the regime against its people, shouldn't President Barrack Obama call for the ouster of current Baathist regime? Shouldn't we hear from Obama and the Congress that Assad must go? Surely it would be more in America's interest to see an anti-American dictator ousted for a change.

See The (Shocking) Numbers Behind the Jobs Numbers
Yesterday we showed you a depressing chart that shows "it would take until 2016 to regain the employment highs of 2006-2007." That's a reality check considering the media blitz the administration took part in last week trumpeting the great jobs numbers. Ready for some more? According to number-crunching blogger Jim Quinn (via Zero Hedge), the jobs numbers are leaving out some important details.
Despite Obama and his crew boasting about adding 216,000 jobs last month, Quinn says the economic picture isn't all roses and buttercups:

HELP US DEFEAT OBAMA
Who would you like to see in the White House in 2013? Chris Christie? Mike Huckabee? Sarah Palin? Tim Pawlenty? Michele Bachmann? Mitt Romney? Haley Barbour?
Perhaps your favorite candidate isn't listed. Maybe he or she isn't going to run. But I'm willing to bet -- I hope and pray -- that you feel any of these men or women would be preferable to Barack Obama.
If so, please go to www.cwfpac.com right now and give whatever you can afford -- $10, $25, $50, $100 -- to help us defeat Obama.
Today, Rep. Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, unveiled a plan to cut federal spending by nearly $6 trillion over the next ten years! Clearly, Ryan and House Republicans are serious about reining in government spending.
Democrats are already on the attack. Press releases were fired out this morning targeting six GOP Senate candidates, pressuring them to oppose Ryan's "funding cuts for health services for seniors."
Ryan's best intentions won't matter unless he has a Republican Senate and White House working with him in 2013. That's why your support for CWF is so important!
Please go to www.cwfpac.com and donate whatever you can afford to help us stop Obama's spending!
As you'll read below, Speaker John Boehner is standing firm in his fight to cut spending this year. We're getting closer to a government shutdown every day, because Obama and his liberal Democrat allies are not serious about the growing debt menace. Obama, Reid and Pelosi think they can win that debate. Some polls suggest that they may be right. What matters most is whether they win the 2012 election!
If Obama is reelected, government will get bigger and the out-of-control spending will continue. Who knows what foreign policy fiascos will take place. If Obama gets four more years, it is very likely he will appoint one or two more justices to the high court. Yesterday, a school voucher program was upheld on a 5-to-4 vote. If Obama is reelected, it could be 6-to-3 against school choice. Marriage will be radically redefined, Planned Parenthood will get more of our tax dollars and our healthcare system will be socialized by ObamaCare.
Please, stand with CWF today. We can end this nightmare and put America back on track, but not if we are dramatically outspent by the left. Thank you!
Obama & Boehner: "Get Ready"
Get ready for a government shutdown. That was the message coming from both President Obama and Speaker John Boehner last night. The Washington Post reported that Obama has directed the Office of Management and Budget to begin developing "shutdown contingency plans with top [department] managers."
Reuters reports that John Boehner also told House Republicans last night to start preparing for a shutdown. Boehner is increasingly frustrated with the lack of action from Senate Democrats. Of Harry Reid's claimed agreement to cut $33 billion, Boehner said:
"I've made clear that their $33 billion is not enough and many of the cuts that the White House and Senate Democrats are talking about are full of smoke and mirrors. That's unacceptable. ... Our goal ... is to cut spending and keep the government open. If the government shuts down, it will be because Senate Democrats failed to do their job."
This morning, President Obama met with congressional leaders to try and reach an agreement on funding the government for the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year. Reports indicate that the meeting wasn't very productive. In response, Speaker Boehner may try to pass another one-week continuing resolution that seeks to cut an additional $12 billion, but Democrats have rejected that idea. If nothing happens, the government will shut down this weekend.
Ryan's "Path To Prosperity"
House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan released his 2012 budget proposal titled "The Path To Prosperity." It is a very ambitious plan to say the least, but the economic realities facing America today demand big changes. Here are some brief highlights:
- Cuts $6.2 trillion in government spending over the next decade compared to President Obama's budget request.
- Reduces deficits by more than $4 trillion over the next ten years compared to Obama's budget.
- Puts the budget on a path to balance and pays off the debt.
- Overhauls the tax code to promote economic growth. Lowers tax rates for individuals, families and businesses with a top rate for individuals and businesses of 25 percent.
- Repeals and defunds ObamaCare.
- Major reform of Medicare to take effect in 2022.
You can learn more about Rep. Ryan's plan here.
Predictably, Democrats are denouncing the plan. In a Twitter response, Nancy Pelosi wrote, "Ryan budget is a path to poverty for America's seniors & children and a road to riches for big oil." Her office later released the following statement:
"Following a long-honored tradition, Republicans are masking the true impact of just what the GOP FY 2012 budget will do. Chairman Paul Ryan and House Republicans may claim their budget leads us down a 'Path to Prosperity,' but the rhetoric doesn't match up with the reality. Here are the facts on just what the GOP budget means for our country:
· Path to eliminating guaranteed benefits for seniors under Medicare
· Path to subsidies to oil companies and giveaways to special interests
· Path to tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and companies that ship jobs overseas
· Path to cuts in kids' education
· Path to slashing support for seniors, children, and Americans with disabilities on Medicaid
"It's time for Republicans to join with Democrats to create jobs, strengthen the middle class, and responsibly reduce the deficit."
Ryan's plan stands little to no chance of passing the Democrat Senate. But the battle lines for the 2012 campaign have been clearly drawn, and the contrasts are stark. Republicans are staking out a bold position of lower taxes, significantly less government spending and more freedom, while Democrats are defending the status quo that will lead to bankruptcy.
Why do I say that? Yesterday 41 Senate Democrats signed a letter to the Senate leadership threatening to filibuster any budget that defunds Planned Parenthood. If Democrats won't agree to stop sending our hard-earned tax dollars to the nation's largest abortion provider, it's hard to imagine that there is any federal spending they would be willing to cut.
"Moderate" Threatens War With Israel
Mohamed ElBaradei, the former head of the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency, is running for president of post-Mubarak Egypt. ElBaradei is often described as a moderate. But just how moderate is he? Consider his own words. In an interview yesterday with the Arab language Al-Watan newspaper, ElBaradei said, "If Israel attacked Gaza we would declare war against the Zionist regime." This is the man we trusted to inspect Iran's nuclear weapons program.
The only reason Israel would attack Gaza would be in self-defense to stop Hamas rockets from raining down on Israeli civilians, and it would have every right to do so. Yet, in his campaign for the presidency, this so-called "moderate" is appealing to the Jew-hatred and anti-Semitism that is rampant throughout Egypt. The nation was once a force for stability in the region. Now the revolution Obama supported appears to have been hijacked by the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists who are agitating for war with our closest ally.

$12B 1 week abortion rider CR on table

|
With negotiations breaking down on a six-month spending bill, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is floating a one-week measure that includes a controversial abortion rider and $12 billion in cuts in the hopes of extracting further concessions from Democrats on the longer-term deal. While the stopgap will primarily be a short-term measure, it would also fund the Defense Department through the end of fiscal 2011 on Sept. 30, It otherwise continues funding through April 15, just before lawmakers in both chambers are scheduled to leave Capitol Hill for a two-week recess. The decision to introduce the bill comes as Boehner prepares for a White House meeting Tuesday with President Barack Obama about finding a way forward to avoid a government shutdown. Welfare Use by Immigrant Households with Children: A Look at Cash, Medicaid, Housing, and Food Programs
By Steven A. Camarota April 2011Backgrounders and Reports
Steven A. Camarota is the Director of Research at the Center for Immigration Studies.
Thirteen years after welfare reform, the share of immigrant-headed households (legal and illegal) with a child (under age 18) using at least one welfare program continues to be very high. This is partly due to the large share of immigrants with low levels of education and their resulting low incomes - not their legal status or an unwillingness to work. The major welfare programs examined in this report include cash assistance, food assistance, Medicaid, and public and subsidized housing.

The GOP Path to Prosperity
Our budget cuts $6.2 trillion in spending from the president's budget over the next 10 years and puts the nation on track to pay off our national debt.
By PAUL D. RYAN
Congress is currently embroiled in a funding fight over how much to spend on less than one-fifth of the federal budget for the next six months. Whether we cut $33 billion or $61 billion-that is, whether we shave 2% or 4% off of this year's deficit-is important. It's a sign that the election did in fact change the debate in Washington from how much we should spend to how much spending we should cut.
But this morning the new House Republican majority will introduce a budget that moves the debate from billions in spending cuts to trillions. America is facing a defining moment. The threat posed by our monumental debt will damage our country in profound ways, unless we act.

March Madness: U.S. Gov't Spent More Than Eight Times Its Monthly Revenue
Monday, April 04, 2011 By Terence P. Jeffrey
Erskine Bowles, co-chairman of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsbility with his co-chair former Sen. Alan Simpson (R.-Wyo.) (AP photo/Alex Brandon)
(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. Treasury has released a final statement for the month of March that demonstrates that financial madness has gripped the federal government.
During the month, according to the Treasury, the federal government grossed $194 billion in tax revenue and paid out $65.898 billion in tax refunds (including $62.011 to individuals and $3.887 to businesses) thus netting $128.179 billion in tax revenue for March.
At the same time, the Treasury paid out a total of $1.1187 trillion. When the $65.898 billion in tax refunds is deducted from that, the Treasury paid a net of $1.0528 trillion in federal expenses for March.

Boxer made the comments today in a press conference in San Francisco, where we at SFChronicle/SFGate.com's Shaky Hand Productions asked her whether Democrats are holding Obama to a different standard on military actions than they did President George W. Bush; in 2007, as political leaders debated possible military action in Iran, many leading Democrats, including Obama himself, insisted the Republican president would have to seek Congressional approval first.

Yielding to political opposition, the Obama administration gave up Monday on trying avowed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged henchmen in civilian federal court in New York and will prosecute them instead before military commissions.
The families of those killed in the Sept. 11 attacks have waited almost a decade for justice, and "it must not be delayed any longer," Attorney General Eric Holder told a news conference at the Justice Department.

Chairman Ryan's Budget Resolution Changes America's Course
America needs to change course. Our current direction is fiscally and economically unsustainable and politically and culturally bankrupting. It is threatening the well-being and future of our country.
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's (R-WI) budget proposal, for the first time in recent memory, sets our nation on a different and better path. It tackles the massive spending excesses of the recent past and the entitlement crisis that is beginning to command our fiscal future. It rejects the politics of government dependence, massively higher taxes and the inevitability of national decline. No budget in decades has had the potential for so fundamentally improving the nation's prosperity and restoring its vast promise. This is a monumental budget proposal for monumental times, and it opens a serious and necessary conversation about the future of our nation and its great legacy of freedom, opportunity, and self-government.

Applying First Principles to the Issues of Today |
Still Witnessing
This past Friday marked the birthday of Whittaker Chambers, author of the 1952 classic Witness. This quiet, unassuming man has become a giant in the conservative movement for his condemning testimony against Communism, and his autobiography, Witness, remains one of the masterpieces of American writing. Even the pumpkin patch on the Chambers' farm, where he famously hid evidence of Communist spies in the United States government, has become a pilgrimage point.
Everyone remembers him as the man William F. Buckley deemed "the most important American defector from Communism." But what is his relevance to the American situation today? As Richard Reinsch illustrates in the latest First Principles essay, Chambers recognized that Communism and modern liberalism share a common philosophical root: man is perfectible, and government possesses unlimited authority to shape the ideal society. Chambers explained in Witness: "[W]hen I took up my little sling and aimed at Communism, I also hit something else. What I hit was the forces of that great socialist revolution, which, in the name of liberalism, spasmodically, incompletely, somewhat formlessly, but always in the same direction, has been inching its ice cap over the nation for two decades."
Because the state exists to perfect man, the powers of the state are unlimited. Communism abolishes private property while modern liberalism redistributes it, but both substitute authoritative government for individual liberty.
As long as people held such unbounded confidence in man and government, Chambers believed that the West, including America, was in danger of complete collapse. Chambers was pessimistic about the future of America. He admitted to his wife that in rejecting Communism, they were leaving "the winning world for the losing world." But Chambers did not place enough faith in the principles of the American Founding. The Framers limited government to securing rights and therefore enabled individual flourishing. Thanks to the principles of the American Founding, local governments created orderly communities; a vibrant array of churches, schools, and voluntary associations provided moral teaching, avenues for fellowship in the community, and care for those in need; and the family remained the first unit of civil society.
Though the walls of Communism have crumbled, modern liberalism remains entrenched. Our task today is to defend the principles of our political order. Whittaker Chambers' birthday seems an appropriate time to remember his witness, and redouble our efforts.

Islamist Hard-Liners Seize the Political Moment in the Freer Egypt
The Blaze | by Emily Esfahani Smith | April 6, 2011
CAIRO (AP) - Islamic hard-liners, some of them heavily suppressed under three decades of Hosni Mubarak's regime, are enthusiastically diving into Egypt's new freedoms, forming political parties to enter upcoming elections and raising alarm that they will try to lead the country into fundamentalist rule.
Some militants, taking advantage of a security vacuum, aren't waiting for the political process. They have attacked Christians and liquor stores, trying to impose their austere version of Islamic law in provincial towns.

Wisc. Dems Who Fled Senate Quietly Return
The Blaze | by Emily Esfahani Smith | April 5, 2011
Wisconsin's Democratic state senators returned to work Tuesday with little fanfare, a stark contrast to the scene in February when their dramatic decision to flee the state in protest over an anti-union bill helped fuel massive protests that made the state the center of a national fight over union rights. The 14 Democrats left for Illinois with no warning on Feb. 17, leaving the Senate with one too few members to vote on the bill. Finally on March 9, Republicans removed some financial provisions from the bill so they could pass it with a lower quorum and no Democrats present. The Democrats returned to Wisconsin in March to participate in a massive rally the day after Gov. Scott Walker signed the bill into law.

Invite all your liberal friends to a Tax Freedom Day party.
Remind them that this is the first day of the year in which the money they work for goes into their own pockets rather than into Big Government's gaping, insatiable maw.

Glenn interviews the $6 trillion dollar man
President Obama's 2012 campaign began so weak and pathetically that even Jon Stewart thrashed the effort. To make matters worse, the very next day Paul Ryan comes out with a crisp, sharp message on how to get America out of the Obama malaise and cut $6 trillion. Is his plan aggressive enough and serious enough to tackle our enormous debt and addiction to spending? Glenn interviews Congressman Ryan on radio today. Watch the interview HERE.
Jon Stewart crushes Obama's campaign kickoff: Mocks the 'exhausted' looking supporters, says campaign has gone from 'Yes We Can' to 'Whatever' - Check out the segment HERE. Did Obama really flip flop on Gitmo?
Glenn explains a 'noticeable moment' from President Obama this week - Obama's apparent flip flop on trying Gitmo detainees here in America. The press is calling this a 'flip flop'-- but was it really? The move seems to fit a disturbing pattern: the President keeps making choices that only encourage more unrest. Gitmo, Ivory Coast, Libya, Egypt -- get the details of how each decision is contributing to more instability from radio today.
Need Hope?
One of Glenn's favorite writers, Richard Paul Evans, has a new book out TODAY in The New York Times bestselling series The Walk. Miles to Go continues to follow the physical and spiritual journey of a broken man who after losing everything, contemplates suicide but then decides to walk across the country in search of hope. Richard has received more mail from this series than his 17 other books combined. People can relate. What are readers saying? Check out the interview from radio today. Richard has agreed to allow our newsletter subscribers to read the first four chapters for FREE. But be warned, once you start reading you won't be able to put it down.
You've got mail! Bloody pig's foot sent to Rep. Peter King
Probably was just a direct mailer - orrrr another crazy leftist decided to make a statement (threat?) via mail. Last week we learned that it was a Wisconsin woman who emailed disturbing death threats to the GOP members and the media ignored it. Will they ignore this as well? Get the full story HERE and get Glenn's reaction from radio today.
Oh, Canada: Protesting feminists rally in 'slut walk' insinuates feminism in decline - DETAILS.
Who knew: MLK died fighting for collective bargaining rights? The left had a fit when the 8/28 Restoring Honor Rally coincidentally landed on the anniversary of the MLK 'I have a Dream' speech. That was something not planned at all - BUT the people protesting alongside the unions in Wisconsin are now claiming that MLK died fighting for collective bargaining rights. So much for that whole 'content of character' idea. Get the full story HERE.
Lessons from Wilmington: The amazing people of Wilmington, Ohio have set the example for the rest of the country through these hard times. This week we revisit the Sugartree Ministry Center - the organization clothing and feeding the hardworking people in this small town. Watch this new video available in the specials tab for some insight into a life lesson only learned in Wilmington.
