Quote:
"It should be your care, therefore, and mine, to elevate the minds of our children and exalt their courage; to accelerate and animate their industry and activity; to excite in them an habitual contempt of meanness, abhorrence of injustice and inhumanity, and an ambition to excel in every capacity, faculty, and virtue. If we suffer their minds to grovel and creep in infancy, they will grovel all their lives."

Dear Patriot,
Our nation has also evolved a great deal over our short time of 235 years. Here at the Thomas Jefferson Club, a portion of our mission statement reads...
"WE BELIEVE the United States is a highly successful Republic because of the Western Culture and Values upon which our nation was founded."
A culture drives a nation. And every nation has a right to national self-determination. The United States is no different. So the subject for our next meeting, Wednesday, April 6th, is...
"Which Way Western Man?"
To discuss this subject we have two excellent presenters who will address this question with facts, figures and solutions.
First up we will host Peter Brimelow, author of the national best-seller, "Alien Nation: Common Sense About America's Immigration Disaster" and Editor of VDare.com. Our second speaker will be Louis March, author of, "Immigration and the End of Self Government" and Chairman of the Representative Government Education Foundation. Mr. March is a former senior staffer of Senator Jesse Helms.
Please join us Wednesday, April 6th, 7pm at The Temperance House in Newtown. **PLEASE NOTE OUR CHANGE OF VENUE DUE TO WASHINGTON XING INN'S RENOVATIONS** The Temperance House is located at 5 South State Street in Newtown, Bucks County.
I look forward to seeing you on April 6th in Newtown!

Wafa Sultan Schools Bill O'Reilly
The column below written by Andrew Bostom is a great read! What Wafa Sultan and Bostom are referring to is precisely what led a New Jersey judge in 2009 to rule that a Muslim man, who was repeatedly raping his wife, had not committed a crime.

At least by her??
Last night for a few brief shining television moments (captured here [3]), Wafa Sultan, courageous author of the indispensable jeremiad "A God Who Hates [4]," strove gamely to educate Bill O'Reilly-often seemingly impenetrable [5] by facts regarding Sharia-about how Islamic Law, patterned on the "perfect example" of Islam's prophet Muhammad, sanctions rape.

Speaking truth to Power

Samantha Power is the author of a Pulitzer Prize-winning book on genocide, and she has a professorship at Harvard (in something called "Global Leadership and Public Policy"). She is also a senior foreign policy adviser to Barack Obama. This isn't an honorific: she has worked for Obama in Washington, she has campaigned for him around the country, and she doesn't hesitate to speak for him. This morning, the Washington Post has a piece on Obama's foreign policy team, identifying her (and retired Maj. Gen. Scott Garion) as "closest to Obama, part of a group-within-the-group that he regularly turns to for advice." Power and Garion "retain unlimited access to Obama." This morning's New York Times announces that Power has an "irresistable profile" and "she could very well end up in [Obama's] cabinet."

Raymond Ibrahim:
... the dubious excuse used to justify this latest barbarous outburst - "desecration of the Koran" - is a reminder of the double-standards Bibles suffer in the Islamic world, where they are routinely confiscated and burned. Indeed, even as Muslim Ethiopians were rampaging, Muslim nations hailed as being "moderate" - Malaysia and Bangladesh - also made headlines last week with their deplorable treatment of Christians and Bibles. Worse, the West helps standardize such a biased approach: the U.S. government - Obama, Hillary, and any number of other grandstanding politicians - rose up in condemnation when a virtually anonymous, small-town pastor threatened to burn the Koran, while saying nary a word about the countless Bibles daily mutilated in the Muslim world (a 2003 fatwa that ruled the Bible suitable for use by Muslims when cleaning after defecation went largely unnoticed). ...

By DAVID HOROVITZ, JPOST Shalev: Israel "only just found out" about Resolution 377; same process used in 1981 to advance Namibian independence, delegitimize S. Africa.
Israel failed to realize until recently that the Palestinian bid to win United Nations General Assembly endorsement for statehood in September might not be merely declarative, but could have profound practical consequences under the provisions of a little-known UNGA resolution, Gabriela Shalev, the former Israeli ambassador to the UN, has told The Jerusalem Post.
UNGA Resolution 377, also known as the "Uniting for Peace" resolution, was passed during the Korean War in 1950, at the initiative of the US, because the Soviet Union was vetoing UN Security Council action to protect South Korea.
It permits the General Assembly to recommend a range of "collective measures" to supportive states, including sanctions and even the use of force, in cases where the permanent members of the Security...

Rick Moran, FrontPageMag United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, which authorizes a no-fly zone over Libya and the protection of civilians by all means necessary, is the culmination of a decade-long effort to radically strengthen the ability of the UN to intervene in sovereign nations through the "Responsibility to Protect" (R2P) doctrine. Behind the initiative are, unsurprisingly, some of the usual suspects: National Security Council adviser Samantha Power and her patron George Soros. Their call to prevent human rights abuses through military intervention masks an agenda to alter drastically the concept of state sovereignty and to allow the United Nations to essentially co-opt the US military.
A 2008 backgrounder produced by The Heritage Foundation on the Responsibility to Protect articulates one of the most dangerous aspects of the doctrine: "R2P would effectively cede U.S. national sovereignty and decision-making power over key components of national...

Arab League and Turkey Are Obama's New Best Friends..Israel?
One Jerusalem
As wide spread unrest began to rock the Arab world some speculated that the Obama Administration would now drop its pointless focus on the Palestinians, where there is no prospect for a negotiated settlement. Israel would be given a bit of rest from "negotiating" with the Palestinian Authority that does not represent the Palestinian people and refuses to acknowledge Israel as a Jewish State.
Last week President Obama made it clear that he still believes that Israel is at fault and needs to search its soul in its relations with the Palestinians. And yesterday, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates ratcheted up the pressure on Israel to make further concessions to the Palestinians. Gates' strong armed tactics come as Israel is being subjected to rocket attacks, as Israel mourns the murder of the Fogel family, and is still shaken by the terrorist attack in the heart of Jerusalem.
It wasn't long ago, when the President of the United States and his...

RedState Morning Briefing
For March 30, 2011
BREAKING NEWS: In a Human Events exclusive, Emily Miller has the details on a letter sent to Congress by several Governors, including Haley Barbour and Rick Perry, demanding Congress enact a Balanced Budget Amendment.
Governors Haley Barbour (R.-Miss.), Bob McDonnell (R.-Va.), and Rick Perry (R.-Tex.) sent a letter to the Democrat and Republican congressional leaders on Tuesday evening calling on them to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) to the U.S. Constitution.
"We believe it is time that the federal government be required to live within its means and balance its books every year, just as we are required to do in our respective states," wrote the three governors in a letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS
1. Barack Obama Is Now Admitting Some of the Libyan Rebels May Not Be Friendly
This is so insane it makes my head hurt.
In an interview with NBC News and another with CBS News, Barack Obama is finally admitting some of the rebels we are helping in Libya may not be friendly to the United States.
2. On Intervention and Opposition to the Libyan Engagement
Using the same rationale George W. Bush used to go into Iraq, Barack Obama has now gone into Libya.
It seems that the world is upside down. Suddenly Republicans are concerned about going into a Middle Eastern country and Democrats are gung-ho neocon warmongers.
The situation, of course, is not that simple.
3. Liberals Continue All-Out Wisconsin Assault
Having failed to protect their place at the government teat by bravely running away during the legislative session, Wisconsin liberals have apparently decided to win the fight by trying to remove conservatives from the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which will presumably soon decide on whether the law stripping the public unions of collective bargaining power was properly passed. In the crosshairs right now is purportedly conservative Justice David Prosser. Now, Prosser has already been the subject of shenanigans from the Wisconsin Supreme Court's liberal members - background on that is here. The gist of that particular case is that one of the Court's liberal members accidentally-on-purpose leaked to the media that Prosser called one of the Court's liberal Justices a "total b*tch" in a closed-door session about an ethics complaint concerning one of the Court's other Justices.
4. Winning the Battle and Losing the War
Republicans have, of late, gotten very good at winning battles while losing wars. Look no further than Wisconsin. While the GOP got its legislative victory, the left is now intent on going gangbusters over recall efforts.
But before they even get there, the left is going after Justice David Prosser on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Leon has a good write up on this, but the nutshell here is very important - David Prosser is all that stands between the Wisconsin Supreme Court flipping to the left.
Do what you can to help re-elect David Prosser or the battle we just won will be thrown out by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. It is that simple.
But there is more.
The GOP is not taking the recall threat in Wisconsin seriously. We've diverted our attention elsewhere and we need to gear back up. You need to pull out your credit cards and checkbooks and give every penny you can to the Wisconsin GOP right now.
Yes, you must.
5. Hey Senator Schumer, Who are the Real Extremists?
As the Democrats continue to bankrupt the nation with crushing debt, and stymie Republican attempts to balance the budget, we were beginning to wonder if they had their own plan to achieve budget solvency. The New York Times just revealed their monumental plan for the future of our fiscal stability. Drum roll......Labeling Republicans and tea partiers as extremists!
6. Wisconsin AFL-CIO Holds Joint Rally with Planned Parenthood
Maybe if you've been a union member for some time, you've been able to avoid some level of discomfort over your union dues going to the political campaigns of Democrats. Maybe you're a hard-working conscientious person who can rationalize this by saying that, after all, the Democrats are more pro-union than Republicans, generally speaking. Maybe you were able to swallow your irritation at the massive union support for Obamacare despite knowing full well that Obamacare was likely to eliminate many working class jobs as companies could not afford to afford the mandate. Now, on the other hand, the Wisconsin AFL-CIO has gone one step farther to stand in defense of an organization - Planned Parenthood - that has nothing whatsoever to do with union or working issues. That's right: from now on you (or at least your union dues) are now in favor of taxpayer funding for abortion.
7. On Ethanol, Conservatives Should Stand With Tom Coburn
Tom Coburn, Ben Cardin, Charles Koch (yes, *that* Charles Koch), and others, want to end the ethanol subsidy. Grover Norquist who is as wrong on ethanol as he is on FedEx v. UPS and matters relating to Jihad, declares it to be a tax increase to get rid of the ethanol subsidy.
In a letter to Norquist, Coburn defends ending the subsidy.
8. The FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act & What Has Union Bosses in a Panic
On Monday, the International Association of Machinists won an election to represent 2,900 employees at AirTran. The union (the same union calling for airline re-regulation) won despite the fact that 1,906 (nearly 66%) of AirTran's employees did not vote for unionization. In fact, 36% of the employees did not vote at all. The union's victory is a good example of how President Obama's union appointments at the National Mediation Board have changed 75 years worth of precedence in order to favor unions. It is also a good example of why the fight over the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011 is important and why the LaTourette/Costello Amendment to H.R. 658 should be defeated (again).

The Libya Speech That Wasn't
After watching President Obama's speech last night defending his military intervention in Libya, I turned to my wife, Carol, and said, "That was not a Libya speech -- that was an Obama reelection speech." Talking to members of my staff this morning, I said the same thing -- that the address to the nation about Libya was a speech whose purpose was more about keeping Obama in power than about getting Qadhafi out of power.
We've seen this over and over again -- particularly since the Democrats' losses in last November's elections. The polls show the public is tired of big government, so with great fanfare he announces an initiative to repeal unnecessary regulations. Meanwhile, his bureaucrats are regulating more than ever. The public sees Obama as anti-business, so he brings business leaders to the White House and spends hours getting their advice. Meanwhile, he continues to wage war on entrepreneurs, small businesses and capitalism.
And now he's doing it on foreign policy. Recent polling shows that Obama is seen by U.S. voters as a tremendously weak commander-in-chief. Only 17% of Americans regard Obama as "decisive and strong" in that role. Last night's speech was intended to make Obama appear decisive and presidential. I am happy to say Rush Limbaugh agrees with me. Leading off his show today, Rush said that Obama's speech was all about 2012.
Obama is incredibly vulnerable on his mishandling of U.S. foreign policy. He has severely damaged relations with our strongest allies while kowtowing to our enemies. His Middle East policies in particular have been a failure.
He has repeatedly berated Israel, while begging Iran to negotiate with him. His insistence on Israeli concessions BEFORE negotiations with the Palestinians has given Palestinian leaders an excuse not to negotiate at all. He refuses to acknowledge the motivating force of radical Islam in the violence aimed at the U.S., Israel and the West in general. Unable to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power, Obama tries to make Qadhafi sound like the big threat, when he is a sideshow.
I safely make this prediction: If the thug Qadhafi is forced to step down in the days ahead, the liberal media will report it as if Obama were a modern day Eisenhower who just liberated Europe. That is the goal of this Libyan adventure. Here are a few more comments on the speech.
- Astonishingly, Barack Obama used the idea of American exceptionalism last night in defending American intervention in Libya, saying, "To brush aside America's responsibility as a leader ... would have been a betrayal of who we are. Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. The United States of America is different."
This is coming from the same man who apologized to Europe for America's "dismissive arrogance," and who dismissed the concept of American exceptionalism when asked directly about it. At a European summit in 2009, Obama said, "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the ... Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism." Obama was essentially saying that every country thinks it is exceptional, thus none is any better than the rest.
What prompted his new tone? I suspect it may have something to do with internal White House polling that found Americans don't like presidents who don't much like America. And you know Obama is in full campaign mode when he delivers a speech that is heavy with "Obama exceptionalism." In his address last night, he referred to himself more than two dozen times! - To elevate himself, he took cheap shots at two past presidents, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, contrasting his magnum opus in Libya to how they handled Bosnia and Iraq respectively. Obama has every right to disagree with the war in Iraq. He ran as the anti-war candidate in 2008 and made his opposition to Iraq a central theme in the primary against Hillary Clinton. Never mind that removing a brutal thug from power, a man who was a threat to his own people and the region, bears a striking similarity to Obama's justification for intervention in Libya.
But as one commentator noted, Obama moved against Qadhafi after just one U.N. resolution. Bush had five U.N. resolutions against Saddam Hussein. Obama acted with the support of 15 coalition partners. Bush had 40 nations assisting us in Iraq. And George W. Bush had something else Obama did not have: 373 votes in Congress authorizing the use of force. How many congressional votes does Obama have for what his spokesman called the "kinetic military action" in Libya? Zero. - As for the policy itself, President Obama justified military strikes against Qadhafi by using the dictator's own words against him. "Qadhafi declared he would show 'no mercy' to his own people," Obama said. "He compared them to rats, and threatened to go door to door to inflict punishment." Why are we not taking the words of Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad more seriously? The tyrant in Tehran has repeatedly threatened to wipe one of our allies off the map while he aggressively pursues the world's most dangerous weapons!
The Associated Press fact checked Obama's speech. Of Obama's much-hyped transition of leadership to NATO, the AP writes: "In transferring command and control to NATO, the U.S. is turning the reins over to an organization dominated by the U.S., both militarily and politically. In essence, the U.S. runs the show that is taking over running the show." - And as I predicted yesterday, Obama didn't have much to say about the Libyan rebels on whose behalf we have gone to war, and it's not surprising. We don't fully know who they are, but I am fairly certain they are not avid readers of the Federalist Papers.
Obama tried to compare them to our Founding Fathers by suggesting that our revolution for freedom is somehow comparable to what is taking place in the Middle East today. If only that were so. But as we have reported, the evidence is growing that many of the rebels are affiliated with Al Qaeda and other extreme Islamist movements.

State Representative John Galloway (D-Bucks) would appreciate our assistance and support regarding his intention to expedite passage of E-Verify in Pennsylvania. Specifically, Rep Galloway intends to request Governor Corbett to issue an Executive Order that would immediately mandate all state contractors and subcontractors verify the employment eligibility of their employees. The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that in April 2009 there were between 18-35,000 illegal aliens working in construction in Pennsylvania. Representative Galloway's previous E-Verify legislation attempts passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in the House last year; however, the state Senate failed to take action on the bills. In January 2011 Rep. Galloway reintroduced his E-Verify legislation (HB 379 and HB 380). The Chamber of Commerce and unions, such as SEIU, vehemently oppose any legislation that would require contractors verify the employment eligibility of employees working on public projects. For these reasons, and in an effort to ensure tax-paid public projects hire only well-trained Pennsylvanian construction workers, Rep Galloway intends to expedite E-Verify via a Governor-issued Executive Order. Rep Galloway will publicly make this request of the Governor at a press conference in Harrisburg, tentatively scheduled for late April . Rep Galloway expects that Rep Daryl Metcalfe will also participate in the press conference.
Due to the time constraints, and if members of your group are in agreement, we would very much appreciate it if you would copy the letter below, inserting your group's name, and forward it to me at KmaMedPR@aol.com. In turn, I will forward all support letters to Rep Galloway's assistant. If time permits Marge Adelsberger and I intend to produce a petition and solicit as many signatures (family, friends, associates, coworkers, etc.) as possible to present to Rep Galloway prior to the press conference. A copy will be forwarded to you.
Thank you!

PA Senate Bill SBI Does Not Properly Address School Vouchers
First, I would like to define "Failing Schools"; the term should be "Failing Students". There are two main components contributing to scholastic failure: The first is the quality of the educational institution itself and the second of equal importance is the student's parental guidance including moral and social values. Here lies a major problem: when schools are expected to fill in for the latter. This is a losing task and the consequence is that scholastic achievement is sacrificed for social education and in some instances applying political bias or revising history to support a point of view. Some of these taught values are contrary to the values of conscientious parents.
A true Universal Voucher System will well address both scholastic and social value issues for conscientious parents through a true Free Market competition system, it cannot address the second issue of parental or moral abandonment. SB1(current PA Senate Bill 1), as well intended as it is, will destroy the opportunity to establish a real Voucher system. It is a complex law establishing more bureaucracy, employing Excess Scholarship Fund programs, requirements for nonresident transfers ,etc. and applies only to low income students in Urban areas. Keep it simple. In my opinion it will lead to a host of ethnic and racial discrimination based lawsuits, recreate the school busing nightmare of 40 years ago, while degrading scholastic achievement of schools with higher performing scholastic scores. Consequently, It will give fuel to those opposing a Voucher system expansion and an excuse for lawmakers not to pursue a real School Voucher
Simply, what we need is a Bill that addresses:
· Allow state Voucher per student that can be transferred to a NON-PUBLIC School, or a home school credit, the only requirement is that the School maintains the requirement currently applied to Parochial, Private and Home schools and No more. They must achieve State wide scholastic achievement requirements.
· All children in the Commonwealth deserve an opportunity. Vouchers should be made available, without prejudice to race, ethnicity, financial status or neighborhood
· Vouchers should only be limited for non-public school (Sectarian or Not), no transfers from one public school to another. That is the only way to apply a Free Market concept.
I can foresee private and non-sectarian non-public schools being established with a comfortable profit margin and at less cost to taxpayers. In fact, there is the distinct possibility that non-public specialty school programs can be established dealing specifically with problematic or special need children.
Parent: You choose. If you are satisfied with your child's scholastic and social issue education, then keep them in his or hers' current school; if not then let's give them an affordable alternative.
Taxpayer: Pennsylvania spends $26 billion per year on education -more per student than 39 other states-, an amount which has doubled since 1996. Despite a drop of 27,000 students over the last 10 years, while PA ranks 42nd in SAT score( Chris Friend, Philly Post 3/1/11).
There is a preponderance of evidence that a true Universal Voucher system will lower cost and improve achievement. Now is the time to enact a progressive Universal School Voucher system in PA. The political climate is right, the financial concerns are real and we must provide our future generations the necessary educational skills to compete in a global market.
Bottom line : If you are a social liberal-progressive and a union member vote against any school voucher. If you are a social liberal-progressive and not a union member and are mainly interested in entitlement programs for the poor, vote for SBI. If you are a conservative and are interested in improving the educational system for all students while reducing taxes, then support A Universal School Voucher.

It's been established that when the Obama administration can't get part of its agenda legislated; they simply turn around and push it through the web-like bureaucracy at their disposal. Last year's failed pro-union legislation was no exception; when 'card check' met a dead end in Congress, obscure government agencies like the National Mediation Board (NMB) put rules in place to ensure that unionizing elections swung in the unions' favor anyway.

Schumer coordinates Dem budget attack on GOP
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a member of the Democratic Senate leadership, got on a conference call with reporters Tuesday morning without realizing the reporters were already listening in. Schumer thought he was on a private line with four Democratic senators who were to talk with reporters about the current budget stalemate.
Schumer instructed the group, made up of Sens. Barbara Boxer of California, Tom Carper of Delaware, Ben Cardin of Maryland and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, to tell reporters that the GOP is refusing to negotiate.
He told the group to make sure they label the GOP spending cuts as "extreme."
"I always use extreme, Schumer said. "That is what the caucus instructed me to use."

Jay-Z's $450 million business empire Just like a good liberal
This is a superstar economy, in which A-listers live large while minor leaguers struggle. Hedge fund managers like John Paulson may rack up big returns, CEOs like Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman, Sachs bag huge compensation packages, and all-star baseball players like Alex Rodriguez ink nine-figure contracts. But few of them can match the combination of fame, public acclaim and monetary value that Shawn Corey Carter has racked up.
Who?
Amid the carnage of the music industry in the past decade, Jay-Z has managed to parlay artistic success into financial fortune valued at up to $450 million, according to Forbes. Jay-Z's many business successes (and few failures) are described in a new book by Forbes writer Zack O'Malley Greenburg, entitled Empire State of Mind: How Jay-Z Went from Street Corner to Corner Office.

Obama on Libya: "We have a responsibility to act"
Refuses to wait
Vigorously defending American attacks in Libya, President Barack Obama declared Monday night that the United States intervened to prevent a slaughter of civilians that would have stained the world's conscience and "been a betrayal of who we are" as Americans. Yet he ruled out targeting Moammar Gadhafi, warning that trying to oust him militarily would be a mistake as costly as the war in Iraq.
Obama announced that NATO would take command over the entire Libya operation on Wednesday, keeping his pledge to get the U.S. out of the lead fast - but offering no estimate on when the conflict might end and no details about its costs despite demands for those answers from lawmakers.

GOP shifts strategy on housing market overhaul
Fannie and Freddie are cut off
House Republicans plan to introduce eight bills on Tuesday that would each take a small step toward pushing taxpayer-backed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac out of business, according to congressional aides and lobbyists.
The GOP strategy of using a bite-sized approach to ease the government out of the mortgage system seems to be an acknowledgment that it would be hard to move a single, sweeping bill through Congress this year due to lawmakers' concerns about going too far and rattling the feeble housing market. The aides and lobbyists spoke on condition of anonymity, a day before GOP lawmakers planned to announce the bills.

It is the de facto leader of the GOP, and it is long past time that it is treated as such by the media, elected officials and the public."

The European Commission on Monday unveiled a "single European transport area" aimed at enforcing "a profound shift in transport patterns for passengers" by 2050.
The plan also envisages an end to cheap holiday flights from Britain to southern Europe with a target that over 50 per cent of all journeys above 186 miles should be by rail.

Union protests spread across the U.S.
Article includes a chart too!
If 2010 was the year of natural disasters, 2011 is the year of the protest-both foreign and domestic. The tea party-backed governors of Wisconsin, Ohio, Nevada, Indiana and now New Jersey are feeling the blowback from a different kind of popular uprising.
Amendments to block labor unions from engaging in collective bargaining with the government over salaries and benefits for public workers are sparking protests. In Wisconsin, which may wind up as the Egypt of the Midwest, more than a dozen Democrat senators are AWOL, while Republican Gov. Scott Walker is standing his ground and becoming a tea party hero.

Obama says standardized tests too punitive, school should be measured in other ways
President speaks at a "multi-cultural" school
President Barack Obama said Monday that students should take fewer standardized tests and school performance should be measured in other ways than just exam results. Too much testing makes education boring for kids, he said.
"Too often what we have been doing is using these tests to punish students or to, in some cases, punish schools," the president told students and parents at a town hall hosted by the Univision Spanish-language television network at Bell Multicultural High School in Washington, D.C.

I'm writing you today because urgent action is needed to help us put children first in the education system of our nation's capital. On Wednesday, the House will vote on H.R. 471, the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results Act (SOAR). This bill would reauthorize the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program, creating education choices for parents and rescuing children stuck in failing schools. Please call Congress and tell them to vote YES on the SOAR Act!
Because the District of Columbia is not a state, Congress has a unique role to determine DC education policy. DC has already become a breeding ground for some of the best conservative education reforms in America and if we can win this education battle in DC, we can push for more state reforms, like our School Choice for Pennsylvania campaign, that save taxpayer money and improve education competition.
The SOAR Act will give students a voucher enabling them to attend the school of their choice. It's important to note that, rather than spending new money, vouchers empower students as consumers. They allow students to take some of the dollars that would have been spent on their education at the local school they would have been forced to attend, and frees them to choose their own school where those dollars will instead pay for their education.
It's a fiscally conservative plan which reduces the cost of education to taxpayers. Currently, the Washington, DC public school system is the most expensive yet produces the worst results in the nation. Taxpayers pay an average of $28,170 per pupil annually, but only 12 percent of eighth-graders are proficient in reading and only 8 percent in math. The SOAR Act only costs an average of $6,620 per student-one-fourth of the cost that the district currently pays for K-12 schooling.
But the American Federation of Teachers, a teachers' union which has openly opposed reform, gave $1 million to the campaign of new DC mayor Vincent Gray to try and kill any education reforms in DC. Why do teachers' unions want to see this bill fail? Because it takes away their power and puts it back in the hands of parents.
One of our nation's founding principles is the freedom to make economic choices for ourselves. When I was Majority Leader in Congress, I led this education fight because I believed children and parents deserved that freedom. When Congress passed the DC Opportunity Scholarship program in 2004, it gave thousands of DC families hope to send their child to a better school. In fact, the program was so popular that there were four applicants for every one available slot.
We only have until Wednesday to be heard on this critical issue. Help us put kids first in education. Call Congress NOW!
Sincerely,
Dick Armey Chairman, FreedomWorks

Today, we face the challenge of an impending debt crisis brought about by Washington's out-of-control spending. It is clear that we can and we must get our fiscal house in order. That is why the next three items are posted on the YouCut website - I hope you'll click here and take a moment to vote on which item we should bring up for a vote on the House floor.
Americans have a unique ability to apply creativity, intellect and leadership to solve any problem. That's why so many Americans take part in YouCut each week: to participate in an ideas-focused community that says it is time for Washington to tighten the belt, cut wasteful spending, and end duplicative government programs.
To be strong, to lead, to grow, and to empower people, we've got to shift from having a government that smothers new jobs and business growth to one that nurtures an environment for getting people back to work.
Only then can we get back to what Americans do best: innovate, compete and lead.
Regards,
Rep. Eric Cantor
Majority Leader

The EPA's greenhouse gas regulations will raise energy prices and will destroy jobs. | |
Tell Your Senators to Stop the EPA's Power Grab |
The people said no to cap and trade, but President Obama and the EPA decided to implement draconian regulations to do it anyway. It's time for Congress to put unelected EPA bureaucrats in their place.
>> Email your Senators to urge opposition to the EPA's regulatory regime.
Radical environmentalists are using the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases to "solve" the supposed global warming crisis. But this is worse than a power grab, it's a backdoor way to impose huge regulatory costs, otherwise known as taxes, on our already weakened economy. These regulations will destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Senator Mitch McConnell is proposing an amendment to stop the EPA. The amendment would put greenhouse gases out of the EPA's regulatory reach.
>> Email your Senators and urge support for the McConnell amendment now.
As you take action, our Senate Relations team will be on Capitol Hill pressing Senators to support the amendment. Together, we can bring the EPA's backdoor energy tax to a halt.
Thank you for taking the time to email your Senators.
Sincerely,

COMMENTARIES:
Obama's War By Patrick J. Buchanan America is fighting the rebels' war. So questions arise that were never answered when Obama ignored Congress to start his war. Who are these rebels, some of whom belong to al-Qaida, as others show their hatred of Gadhafi by smearing his posters with a Star of David? When we win the rebels' war for them, whom do we put in power? How many troops will it take to police the smashed cities and prevent reprisals? Who provides those troops? Is Libya the dress rehearsal for Syria and Iran?
Department of Injustice By Walter E. Williams One of the requirements to become a Dayton, Ohio police officer is to successfully pass the city's two-part written examination. The U.S. Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Eric Holder, rejected the results of Dayton's Civil Service examination because not enough blacks passed. The DOJ has ordered the city to lower the passing score. The most tragic consequence of the DOJ actions is that it brings into question legitimate black achievement and possibly sours race relations.

Obama Leaves Libya Questions Unanswered
Last night, nine days after U.S. military operations against Muammar Qadhafi began, President Barack Obama took to the stage at the National Defense University to finally explain his rationale for intervention in Libya's civil war. He described the brutality of the Qadhafi regime, the United States' interests in the conflict, the limited nature of U.S. military involvement, and the role the "international community" would undertake in finishing the job in Libya and rebuilding the country. It was a speech more appropriately delivered at the onset of Operation Odyssey Dawn, and unfortunately it's a speech that leaves a fundamental question unanswered: what's the way forward?

Global Warming Fun.
NO. 4.
Pick a cold day in April to remind all the liberals you know how miserable the weather still is. Ask: "Do you think there's a single person left out there who's still stupid enough to believe in global warming?" If the liberal tries explaining to you the difference between "weather" and "climate," laugh darkly and cynically and go, "Yeah, right. When it's hot, the eco-nuts will tell you it's proof of dangerous climate change. But when it's cold, they tell you it's just 'weather'? How dumb do those tree-huggers think we are?"

Iran believes unrest means Islamic Messiah is near
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly said he is trying to hasten the return of the 12th Imam, and the only way to do that is through chaos. That's why they believe that the current unrest is a sign that the time is near. Why should that scare the pants off of everyone else who doesn't believe in the same things Iran does? The man who uncovered yesterday's shocking Iranian video, CBN reporter Erick Stakelbeck, gives the disturbing answer and more in an interview on radio today. Get all the details at GlennBeck.com.
