RedState Morning Briefing
For March 22, 2011
1. Okay. We're Bombing Libya.
Now what?
After playing Hamlet for a period of some weeks, a supremely disengaged President Obama has been nagged into action on Libya. Over the weekend, US and allied forces hit Libya with a barrage of cruise missiles which was followed up by airstrikes directed not only at infrastructure supporting the Libyan air force but also against the Libyan army
What has been more notable than what has happened is what hasn't happened. We still have no idea of the goals or objectives of this exercise. Are we trying to topple the odious Muammar Qaddafi? Are we trying to establish a "free state of Benghazi" where his opponents, the self described mujahideen, can rule? Are we trying to moderate his use of force as he exercises the legitimate right of any sovereign to put down an armed insurrection? Are we leading this coalition? Or is Nicholas Sarkozy? Who decides when enough is enough? When, if ever, is the administration going to ask for Congressional approval to carry out this operation?
Not only do we, the American people, not know these answers it is more than a little unclear that the administration itself knows the answers or is even of one mind on the few answers it does have.
2. Libya is Not Our Fight
Liberals have a penchant for engaging in the wrong wars and fighting them the wrong way. They are always meek and submissive towards those who represent an existential threat to America, such as Iran, Russia, China, Syria, and Venezuela. When they finally choose to engage in military intervention, it is usually for a dubious cause or for the purpose of some humanitarian aid that lacks a clearly defined mission or end result for our troops. Unfortunately, many Bush Republicans have a predilection to automatically support any military intervention, even if it lacks a clear mission or its original purpose does not represent a substantial threat to our national security.
Somalia was a classic example of a leftist foreign policy folly. There was no reason to involve our military in a humanitarian operation in that part of the world. However, once Somalia became a magnet for terrorists, these hypocritical interventionists refused to deal with the new reality and treat the mission as a military operation. Consequently, our soldiers were unprepared for the ensuing ambush in which over a dozen American soldiers were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu. Instead of bringing the terrorists to justice and turning the place into a waste zone, we summarily retreated. Thus, the very interventionists who were all too eager to engage in an imprudent use of our military were suddenly lacking the temerity to engage the enemy when it really mattered.
3. ClaireAir Crash Lands in Missouri
Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill reminds me of the Seinfeld episode "The Opposite", where George decides that in order to succeed, he must do the opposite of every instinct he ever had. For years now, just like George Castanza, Claire McCaskill has said one thing and done the opposite.
4. FAIL: Crooks and Liars Claims Evil Minnesota Republicans Are Making it Illegal for Poor People to have Cash
As part of the Left's ongoing quest to make every attempt at welfare reform look like the opening scene from Oliver Twist, Susie Madrak of Crooks and Liars has written a profoundly misleading and wrong-headed piece that might better have been entitled "Please Sir, Can I Have Some More Cash?"
Relying heavily on unimpeachable sources such as FightBack!News ("News and Views from the Peoples' Struggle") Ms. Madrak weaves a tale in which Minnesota has surpassed Fascist Arizona in sheer villainy with its now infamous "Show Me Your Paper Money" law. On the off-chance you haven't heard of this law, and aren't already vibrating with outrage, Ms. Madrak is quick to enlighten you.
5. Regulating The Fourth Amendment Out of Existence
The Fourth Amendment, which protects Americans from unreasonable searches and seizures and demands that judicial officers issuing search warrants do so only on a showing of probable cause, is an important guarantee of our civil liberties, designed to protect personal privacy - especially in the home - from random governmental snooping. The Fourth Amendment tends to get a lot of bad press because it is usually enforced only by the Exclusionary Rule, which keeps the government from using illegally obtained evidence; by definition, the Exclusionary Rule protects only the rights of people with incriminating evidence to hide. It's also subject to various common-sense exceptions to allow law enforcement to operate on public streets when a warrant is impractical or public safety is imminently threatened. But whatever the misuses of the Exclusionary Rule, the protection against unreasonable searches and seizures remains a core Constitutional right. And like all such rights, it is bound to come under more pressure the larger the regulatory state grows and the further it sinks its tentacles into every avenue of our existence. The growth of the regulatory state is a much greater threat to rights like these than are ordinary law enforcement or even the national security state, both of which are much more narrowly focused in their goals and thus unlikely to expend much effort harassing ordinary citizens.

Whether you "get it" or not about Islam, I think this is a good piece.
Citizen Warrior is an excellent site for information, including
the "Terrifying Brilliance of lslam" document.
ONCE YOU come to grips with the fact that Islam has not been hijacked, and that it teaches the necessity to strive to establish Sharia law everywhere in the world by any means necessary, one question fixates your mind: "Good grief! What are we going to do about this?"
I've heard everything from "Nuke em all" to "get used to the idea of an Islamic world because it is inevitable." This is an extremely difficult challenge. What kind of solution can we possibly come up with? We have a lot of Muslims in the world. Not all of them are orthodox, but there are enough of them to pose a serious problem for free societies. Maryland Senate Gives Tuition Breaks to Illegal Aliens
Early last week, the Maryland state Senate passed a measure to provide in-state tuition to illegal aliens. The bill, which was approved by a vote of 27-20, allows illegal aliens to attend Maryland colleges at the reduced in-state tuition rate, which averages $10,000 less than tuition for non-residents, thus giving illegal aliens a significant financial benefit over U.S. citizens who reside in neighboring states.

Business Lobby Kills Arizona Immigration Bills
Under heavy lobbying from business interests, the Arizona state senate defeated five bills last week that would have created additional deterrence to illegal aliens. Republican state senators were split over the bills, which included two bills designed to eventually force the United States Supreme Court to restore proper applications of the birthright citizenship provisions in the 14th Amendment. Three additional bills would have required hospitals to notify authorities of aliens suspected of being in the country illegally; restricted illegal aliens from attending state universities and collecting federal benefits; and required public schools to record how many children of illegal aliens attend classes.

A Banner Day For Freedom For a Rhode Island High School
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published March 19 on The Daily Caller website.
Remember those lists of school problems that contrasted the problems that faced schools in the 1950s with the problems that face schools today? In the '50s, gum chewing, running in the hall and tardiness were right up there. Today, it's drugs, sex, unwanted pregnancies, STDs, gang fights, assaults on teachers, bullying and all-around violence. Plus, some high school students can't read at a sixth grade level, or go to the movies without texting -- even during car chases. Example: "This R a gud flik. U shud B here!"
So it's no wonder that the ACLU's Rhode Island affiliate will be filing a lawsuit to tear down a school banner in Cranston urging good behavior written in 1960 by a student council member. The banner has attracted -- you guessed it -- one complaint. Why is there always a handy whiner around when the ACLU needs one?

The Bullies' Many Pulpits
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published March 18 on The Washington Times website.
When I was a kid, I got bullied fairly frequently because I was short. So my parents enrolled me in a judo class. After a few unexpected flips in the hallways, the bullies left me alone. Confronting bullies helps build character.
There are times, of course, when judo won't work and the best strategy is to avoid the jerks or sic a teacher or principal on them. Almost everybody has a story. But now, bullying has become a federal issue.
Rep. Jackie Speier is on a crusade to use the U.S. government to stamp out bullying in America. The Northern California Democrat wants to deny federal funds to schools that won't keep a tally of bullying incidents against special-needs children. In other words, the federal government is going to whip local schools into line using its vast fiscal powers. It's a politically correct form of bullying. To oppose this abuse of power implies you actually want these poor kids to be harassed.

A Winning Plan For Social Security Reform
This column by ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara was published March 17 on Forbes.com.
Next year the baby boomers begin to retire on Medicare in earnest, and the year after that on Social Security. For decades now, the federal government's own official reports have been showing that Social Security would not be able to pay all promised benefits to the baby boomers without dramatic, unsustainable tax increases.
Last year, for the first time since President Reagan saved the program in 1983, Social Security began running a cash deficit. Under what the government's actuaries call intermediate assumptions, those deficits will continue until the Social Security trust funds run out of money to pay promised benefits by 2037. After that, paying all promised Social Security and Medicare benefits will require eventually almost doubling the current total payroll tax of 15.3% to nearly 30%.

Obama: On the Wrong Side of History?
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell was published March 17 on The Patriot Post website.
"I don't think anybody disputes that Gaddafi has more firepower than the opposition," President Obama said at a recent White House news conference.
"I believe that Gaddafi is on the wrong side of history [emphasis added]. I believe that the Libyan people are anxious for freedom and the removal of somebody who has suppressed them for decades now. We are going to be in contact with the opposition, as well as in consultation with the international community, to try to achieve the goal of Mr Gaddafi being removed from power," the president offered in response to journalists' questions.

Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire Nation
Dear Patriot,
The federal government has raided and pillaged our Social Security Trust fund -- bilking more than $2.8 trillion in an effort to hide the true size of the federal deficit!
For years Social Security ran at a surplus -- but no more!
Every penny has been siphoned off, leaving Social Security teetering on the very brink of insolvency. And unless dramatic, financial measures are taken, Social Security will collapse under the weight of the retiring baby-boom generation
+ + Stop the Stealing and Balance the Budget
The blatant theft and corruption must end -- with you and me!
We are the generation that has to step up and demand changes, or there may not be a future for our nation.
I'm calling on EVERY member of our Grassfire Nation team to rally together and hold elected leadership responsible for the $2.8 trillion in Social Security surplus that has been brazenly "stolen" by politicians from both sides of the political aisle for decades!
Join with thousands of Americans who are putting the federal government on notice for their blatant thievery and demanding our money be returned!
Click here now to sign our "Stop Stealing From Social Security!" petition:
http://www.grassfire.com/150/petition.asp?ref_id=500064
Even worse than the corruption is the fact that politicians are expecting senior citizens to sacrifice while their bloated budgets continue to swell!
That kind of dishonesty may have worked once-upon-a-time, but today's grassroots citizens are engaged, informed and we know the depth of mismanagement, corruption and waste that has put our nation in such dire straits and we simply aren't going to stand for it anymore!
That's why we have launched this grassroots petition initiative demanding the following:
--All "stolen" funds are returned to the Social Security Trust fund and put in a LOCK BOX for use exclusively in paying Social Security obligations. --Eliminate baseline budgeting that builds spending increases into every government program. --Cut all non-Social Security/Medicare programs by 10 percent annually until the budget is balanced.
Click here now to put the federal government on notice and usher in a new era of fiscal responsibility and accountability:
http://www.grassfire.com/150/petition.asp?ref_id=500064
We can't afford to watch silently as Social Security collapses. We can't afford to turn away from and ignore the deep financial chasm that threatens to envelop us all. Instead, we must take bold action, to let lawmakers know that we aren't going to stand idly by while they spend and steal our nation into oblivion.
There is no doubt that unless citizens speak up, this kind of financial debauchery will continue!
Click here now so Grassfire Nation can include you in upcoming petition deliveries to Capitol Hill:
http://www.grassfire.com/150/petition.asp?ref_id=500064
Thank you for turning to Grassfire Nation and Patriot Action Network!!
Steve
P.S. To make the kind of impact necessary, we must rally at least 50,000 citizen signers of our "Stop Stealing From Social Security" petition. After signing, alert your friends, and encourage them to take action with you by clicking below:

UNEMPLOYMENT: THE TRUE PICTURE

To paraphrase Mark Twain, the three kinds of lies are lies, damn lies, and government statistics. Governments lie, particularly about economic stats in the middle of a recession and the Obama Bureau of Labor Statistics has refined misrepresenting our economic situation to a high art form.
In a previous column, we reported that Rasmussen's index of consumer confidence has fallen dramatically since January from a height of 88 to 73 in mid-March. Now, from the Gallup organization comes the reason why: Unemployment is up, not down!
Gallup has measured true joblessness in its polling during this entire recession. Here's the story: Read More . . .

A guide for new (Muslim) immigrants who want to live peacefully in America
Mar 21, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Americans are a kind and very generous people. When the world needs help we are there even when our own cupboard is bare. We have poured out our treasure and the blood of our warriors to protect and liberate people around the world and when the job is done we go home.
We have accepted the "poor huddled masses" the world has discarded because we see the value of human potential and above all, human life in those who have arrived at our door asking for help. For better or for worse there is no country in the world more tolerant of diversity than America. We seek to always live in peace, but we do make certain demands on those who come to our shores. We demand they either comply with our laws or be escorted out.
In most cases theses demands caused no problems because the people who have come here have generally been late arrivals from ... Continue Reading:A guide for new (Muslim) immigrants who want to live peacefully in America

"It should therefore be difficult in a republic to declare war; but not to make peace." --Joseph Story
Opinion in Brief
| Moammar and Barack |
"Conservative infighting over whether the United States should intervene militarily in Libya is sign of good health. To remain vital, an ideological movement needs to have its basic assumptions challenged occasionally. We need to correct our wayward courses rather than allow mistakes based on faulty strategy to serve as precedents for the next missteps. Many conservatives (particularly neoconservatives) are strong supporters of intervention, out of a deep conviction that the global advance of freedom promotes American security. I happen to disagree, at least insofar as the 'freedom agenda' relies on the U.S. military as its agent. Regardless of where one comes out on the policy, though, we all ought to agree on at least one thing: The Constitution must control the implementation of whatever policy wins the day. Yet it has become necessary to ask whether even this principle, so fundamental to a free, self-determining people, is still unanimously honored. On Thursday evening, the U.N. Security Council voted 10-0 (with five abstentions, including China, Russia, and Germany) to authorize the use of military force (i.e., 'all necessary measures') against Libya. Ostensibly, the resolution is designed to protect the Libyan people. But not to mince words, it is a license for war against the regime of Moammar Qaddafi. It would kick hostilities off with a no-fly zone over Libya. As a practical matter, American armed forces must do the heavy lifting if the strategy is to have a prayer, and indications are that President Obama intends to oblige. There is a catch: The Security Council is powerless to 'authorize' the U.S. military to do a damned thing. The validity of American combat operations is a matter of American law, and that means Congress must authorize them. Our Constitution vests Congress with the power to declare war. That authority cannot be delegated to an international tribunal that lacks political accountability to the American people. ... If the president and proponents of intervention cannot win congressional approval, that is a reason to refrain from going to war, not a reason to refrain from asking for approval. I used to think we all agreed about that. I hope we still do." --columnist Andrew C. McCarthy
Re: The Left
"Perhaps the standard shouldn't be whether Japan's reactor was 'invulnerable' but whether it succeeded by taking such a beating without threatening much human life? The damaged reactors are ruined, but so what? Cars are designed to be ruined after a major accident, too. We routinely, and wisely, trade salvageability for survivability. Few skyscrapers in the United States can withstand a 9.0 earthquake; should we stop making tall buildings? More to the point, much of the discussion about what this means for American nuclear energy leaves out that even the Japanese reactors are 30 years out of date compared with new designs. So-called Generation III plants have passive cooling systems that do not depend on the electricity grid. Hence any moratorium on new nuclear construction -- as being discussed in Congress -- would prevent building plants that have leapfrogged the problems we see in Japan. ... You would at least think that climate change activists, who want fossil-free energy ... would be throwing coolant on the public meltdown. After all, a major backlash against nuclear will be a boon not for wind and solar -- still profoundly inadequate to our energy needs -- but for coal and natural gas. Of course the situation is grave. And who knows what the lessons of this tragedy will be? But rather than worry about letting this crisis go to waste, this strikes me as a great moment to simply cope." --columnist Jonah Goldberg
Political Futures
"'Americans' perceptions of the issue of global warming appear to be cooling,' CNN reports: 'In a Gallup Poll released Monday, 51 percent of respondents said they "worry a great deal or fair amount" about global warming, down from 66 percent in 2008. Forty-one percent of respondents also said that the seriousness of global warming is "exaggerated" -- the highest amount of skepticism in the survey since it was first conducted in 1997.' Why might this be? One obvious answer is that the Climategate emails ratified the skeptical view by showing the corruption of 'climate science.' Looking at the poll results, another explanation occurs to us. Like the 2011 poll, the 2008 one was taken in early March. Since then, we've faced one actual crisis after another: a financial panic, a recession with continuing high unemployment, a vast increase in government spending, a legislative assault on the health-care system; an oil spill, Mideast instability and a concomitant increase in fuel prices. (Japan's earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident don't make the list because they came after this year's poll.) In the midst of real crises, faddish speculative ones become less compelling." --Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto
Culture
"For decades, Europe has been in the grip of an Islamist assault. Largely ghettoized Muslim populations have become dangerously alienated from the European mainstream. ... America faces the same kind of threat. Yet when anyone tries to put a spotlight on the growth of domestic Muslim extremism, liberals, Islamic lobby groups and their fellow travelers cry 'Islamophobia' and 'racism.' The latest example was the congressional hearing held by Rep. Peter King, New York Republican, who dared to examine how some U.S. Muslim youth are being radicalized and recruited by terror networks. The American Civil Liberties Union, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Democratic Party all claimed the hearing was not only unjustified and deeply discriminatory, but could spark an intense backlash among many in the U.S. Muslim community. The critics even argued that this could provide fodder for al-Qa'ida and other jihadists to commit more terrorist acts. In other words, Islam is a 'religion of peace' unless you investigate some Islamic extremists who may be plotting to kill or maim Americans; then that will compel peaceful, law-abiding Muslims to wage jihad. This is the twisted -- and perverse -- logic of the multicultural Left." --columnist Jeffrey T. Kuhner
Government
"The government is supposed to provide order and structure. It is the agency of law in a just and reasoned society. The shameful failure of the Pelosi Congress to produce a budget is an example of lawlessness -- a failure of fiscal duty no different from various accounting frauds that would put corporate CEOs behind bars. A budget is the government's way of explaining to its masters in the electorate how it will perform the duties they have assigned to it, using the resources they have seen fit to provide. The current process of limitless deficits and make-it-up-as-we-go spending resolutions makes an utter mockery of this republican ideal. ... Government through continuing resolution is a fraud. Politicians who claim the wisdom to manage our lives, with piles of law carved into stone, are instead scribbling their judgments on scratch paper with pencils. It's time to hear exactly what they intend to do, and exactly how much it's going to cost us, so we can pass judgment on them." --columnist John Hayward
Insight
"The strongest argument for free enterprise is that it prevents anybody from having too much power. Whether that person is a government official, a trade union official, or a business executive. If forces them to put up or shut up. They either have to deliver the goods, produce something that people are willing to pay for, are willing to buy, or else they have to go into a different business." --economist Milton Friedman (1912-2006)
The Gipper
"If there is any political viewpoint in this world which is free from slavish adherence to abstraction, it is American conservatism. ... Our task now is not to sell a philosophy, but to make the majority of Americans, who already share that philosophy, see that modern conservatism offers them a political home. We are not a cult, we are members of a majority. Let's act and talk like it. The job is ours and the job must be done. If not by us, who? If not now, when? Our party must be the party of the individual. It must not sell out the individual to cater to the group." --Ronald Reagan
Liberty
"For decades, conservatives have endured the brickbats of progressive arrogance, with any resistance to their worldview labeled as 'mean-spirited,' 'racist,' 'homophobic,' 'xenophobic,' 'misogynistic,' 'imperialistic,' etc., etc. ad nauseam. ... [C]an conservatism survive without progressivism? Without a scintilla of a doubt. Can progressivism survive without conservatism? Not the proverbial snowball's chance in hell. It a testament to the obtuseness of the progressive mindset that the foundation of their worldview is built on sand. It is a sand on which the idea of 'spreading the wealth around' presumes either the endless goodwill of the wealth creators, or their never-ending surrender to progressive guilt-mongering. And when either emotion can no longer be manipulated, you get what you just got in Wisconsin: a hate-filled debacle of death threats, extortion and an unabashed attempt to toss the foundations of our democratic republic into a ditch. Only those without an ounce of shame could characterize an attempt to be responsible with the wealth created by the taxpayers of that state as an 'assault on democracy.'" --columnist Arnold Ahlert

"President George Washington understood the importance of personal values as the underpinning of a great nation. In his farewell address ... Washington wrote, 'Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensible supports.' Washington understood that in order for a country to be able to self-govern, that trust between individuals based on common values was important foundationally. More than two centuries later ... Americans often take for granted the foundations on which our nation was built. This past week, I received an e-mail forwarded from an American military officer serving in Afghanistan, who has also served in Iraq. This message eloquently interwove the importance of national and personal values with the ability of a country to govern itself. 'Since being here I have realized two things about the United States. One is that our forefathers were more incredible than I thought, and two is that I believe more so than ever that our Christian-based value system is what made our country the most successful nation the world has ever seen...' ... This Lenten season, possibly we should focus on creating rather than denying. Creating the underlying values that lead to virtues." --columnist Jackie Gingrich Cushman
The Last Word
"I would not have involved our military in Libya. For one thing, I see no reason why the Arab League, which gave the no-fly zone notion a big thumbs-up, doesn't take on that job. They have pilots and jets. Why is it that America and the European nations always have to do their dirty work? All it ever gets us is the ongoing hatred and resentment of Arabs and Muslims. Besides, unlike most people, I have not been sitting on the sidelines rooting for the rebellion forces in the Middle East. I do not confuse enemies of my enemies with friends. I have no reason to think that when the smoke clears, we are going to see a lot of George Washingtons and Thomas Jeffersons running any of those moral swamplands. It is far likelier that Al Qaeda, Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and Hezbollah, will fill any and all power vacuums in that part of the world, with the mullahs in Tehran pulling their collective strings. ... I am not suggesting that the U.S. military should never venture out beyond our borders, but we should have a better reason for doing so than because CNN is showing us one bunch of anti-American creeps killing another bunch of anti-American creeps. In short, we should not be letting the 6 o'clock news determine our foreign policy." --columnist Burt Prelutsky

FLASHBACK: Joe Biden: 'Framers Intended to Grant Congress Power to Initiate All Hostilities, Even Limited Wars' (CNSNews.com) - After studying the constitutional language governing the use of military force and the debates that the Framers had on the issue, Joe Biden in 1988 determined that the Founding Fathers had vested the power to authorize even the limited use of military force in the Congress, not the president---unless it was necessary for the president to act swiftly to repel an attack on the United States or to rescue U.S. citizens.
Military Operation in Libya Sees Little Sign of 'Crucial' Arab Participation (CNSNews.com) - The absence of any obvious Arab involvement during the first day of air strikes on Libyan air defense systems and other military targets underlined the unmistakably Western nature of the mission, an impression that the Obama administration had been so keen to avoid. Even more glaring Sunday than the absence of early Arab involvement was an apparent shift in position by Arab League secretary-general, Amr Moussa.
Republican Leader Says Obama Must Explain U.S. Mission in Libya (CNSNews.com) - "Before any further military commitments are made, the Administration must do a better job of communicating to the American people and to Congress about our mission in Libya and how it will be achieved."
Wave of Political Unrest Hits Syria (CNSNews.com) - The political unrest rippling across the Middle East jolted Syria at the weekend, with several deaths reported amid the violence and protesters setting fire to buildings, including a regional office of the ruling party. Small protests simmering in several locations over recent weeks escalated into serious clashes between Syrians demanding political freedoms and security forces in the agricultural center of Daraa, 60 miles from Damascus.
Senator Questions $2-Billion Loan to Brazil for Offshore Drilling as Domestic Production Languishes (CNSNews.com) - Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) is questioning how the United States has benefited from a $2-billion loan the Export Import Bank of the United States made to a Brazilian oil company for its offshore drilling operations. How has that loan, made several years ago, helped U.S. companies, the senator asked in a March 17, 2011 letter to Fred Hochberg, president of the Export-Import Bank.
Gingrich: House GOP Leadership 'Deeply Committed' to Stopping the Funding of Obamacare (CNSNews.com) - Although House Republicans passed a continuing resolution this week that permitted funding for Obamacare to continue, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a likely 2012 presidential candidate, said the House GOP leadership is "deeply committed" to stopping the funding of the health care law. "I think it will be repealed. I think it will be repealed, probably by March or April of 2013. I think that it's unfortunate that the Obama administration is stonewalling serious re-thinking of this bill."
Gingrich Says He Doesn't Regret Supporting Medicare Drug Plan Which Is Now a $7.2 Trillion Unfunded Liability (CNSNews.com) - Former House Speaker New Gingrich (R-Ga.), a likely 2012 presidential candidate, told CNSNews.com today that he does not regret supporting the enactment of the Medicare prescription drug plan which now presents the federal government with a $7.2 trillion unfunded liability.
EPA Global Warming Regulations Could Send Economy Back Into Recession, Report Says (CNSNews.com) - Regulation of greenhouse gasses by the Environmental Protection Agency could reverse the very modest economic recovery and even send it back into a recession, a report from the National Center for Public Policy Research finds. "These regulations," author Dana Joel Gattuso wrote, "will have a more severe impact on energy costs, U.S. jobs, household income, and economic growth than cap-and-trade legislation would have had."
Drilling Unlikely to Lower Oil Prices, Energy Information Chief Says (CNSNews.com) - Richard Newell, administrator of the U.S. Energy Information Administration, said that while oil prices are likely to stay above average for the remainder of 2011, it is unlikely that an increase in domestic oil production would dramatically affect oil prices in either the short-term or the long-term. Newell, a political appointee, was tapped to head the EIA by President Barack Obama in mid-2009.

Did Bush 'Stack Up' to Reagan As a Conservative? Mark Levin Measures the Folly of Such Thinking By Terence P. Jeffrey
Pete Wehner, who served as a White House adviser to President George W. Bush, has written an essay for Commentary arguing that President George W. Bush's record, in fact, measures up from a conservative perspective even to Ronald Reagan's. Say what? Wehner's essay is a response to Mark R. Levin saying on his radio show that Bush's record as president was at best "marginally conservative."

Obama "Disses" Congress And Bombs Libya
With U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, America is now at war with Libya too. I am ambivalent about this latest use of American power, in part because I have no confidence in our current commander-in-chief.
Not surprisingly, the mission is not clearly defined. Col. Muammar Qadhafi is a thug. But he has been a thug for 40 years, and there is no evidence that at the present time he is threatening the United States. It appears as though we are intervening in a civil war where there is no clear pro-Western alternative to Qadhafi.
President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have said that Qadhafi must go, suggesting that the goal of the campaign is regime change. But this weekend Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that regime change is not necessarily the mission's goal. Maybe Obama should organize a conference call to clear up the confusion -- if he knows what the goal is.
Ending the mission with Qadhafi still in charge could make him the victor. It would appear as though he defied the world's leading powers and prevailed -- a terrible message to send to dictators everywhere. Yet removing Qadhafi may require more than just air strikes, and I doubt America is ready for another ground war.
Speaker John Boehner is demanding more answers from the White House. Boehner said yesterday, "Before any further military commitments are made, the administration must do a better job of communicating to the American people and to Congress about our mission in Libya and how it will be achieved." I couldn't agree more.
Members of Congress should be outraged that Obama consulted the U.N. and the Arab League, but not them. The precedent here is awful. Obama has essentially declared that he does not need permission from Congress to attack another nation that poses no threat to U.S. interests. Can you imagine if George Bush had done that? But John Boehner could be the least of Obama's problems.
While he takes sides in Libya's civil war, Obama is creating one within his own party. During the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama deliberately cultivated the support of the far-left anti-war movement. He criticized Hillary Clinton for supporting the war in Iraq and promised to end it.
Candidate Obama even told The Boston Globe in December 2007, "The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation." But that is precisely what he just did in attacking Libya.
The Code Pink, MoveOn.org segment of the Democrat Party provided much of the energy and manpower that enabled Obama to defeat the Clinton machine in the early primary and caucus states. Now Michael Moore is furious with Obama, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is talking impeachment and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan is asking Obama, "Who the h--- do you think you are?"
But why are so many liberals so upset? Isn't that the America they and Barack Obama have worked so hard to create -- one subordinate to world opinion, where "derisive and arrogant" U.S. power is restrained and where we act only with the permission of the U.N.?
Is Egypt Falling To Islamists?
The unintended consequences of "freedom" in Egypt are becoming evident. Post-Mubarak Egypt held its first vote this weekend on proposed amendments to the Egyptian constitution. As a result of this vote, there will be a series of rushed elections in the months ahead, which even the New York Times concedes, "[underscores] the strength of established political organizations, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood, and the weakness of emerging liberal groups." Christians in Egypt reportedly voted no, but Islamist groups overwhelmed them.
Just consider what happened to Mohamed ElBaradei, the former U.N. nuclear inspector who is no friend of the U.S. yet widely considered a moderate or liberal leader. ElBaradei intends to run for president of Egypt, but when he went to cast his ballot this weekend, he was attacked by a mob of extremists who pelted his car with rocks and bottles. According to his brother, ElBaradei never made it to the polling station.
Meanwhile here at home, Rev. Franklin Graham is speaking out about the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in the U.S. and throughout the Middle East. Rev. Graham told Newsmax, "I fear for the church [in the Middle East] because the Muslim Brotherhood is going to be a very terrible thing."
He also warned that the Muslim Brotherhood is giving the Obama Administration advice at the highest levels about formulating U.S. foreign policy, saying, "It's like a farmer asking a fox, 'How do I protect my hen house?'" You can read more of Rev. Graham's comments to Newsmax here.
Palin Gets Rave Reviews
Sarah Palin's overseas trip to key U.S. allies is earning rave reviews. While our media elites like to ridicule Palin as ignorant, Sunday's Washington Post offered a very different take on her swing through India. Consider this excerpt: "While Obama and his wife, Michelle, danced and charmed their way into Indian hearts, Palin impressed her audience with strong views on energy security, terrorism, free trade, bailouts and the India-U.S. partnership."
When asked about China, Palin pulled no punches. She said, "I personally have huge military concerns about what is going on in China. What's with the buildup? You don't see a tangible outside threat ... to that country. Is that just for a defensive posture? How can that be? Stockpiling ballistic missiles, submarines, new age, ultramodern fighter aircraft."
India's deputy minister for communications and information technology remarked, "Sarah Palin held her own very well. She came out as an independent thinker. She answered all complicated questions reasonably well."
It's not at all clear to me that Sarah Palin will run for president next year. But if she does, I think it would be a mistake to underestimate her chances or her intelligence.
Obama A Hesitant Crisis Manager
President Obama has spent his first two years trying to enact laws (ObamaCare, cap and trade) to address crises (health care, global warming) that most of the public not only doesn't regard as "serious," but doesn't believe exist. But the Obama administration has wasted many opportunities afforded by legitimate crises.
As I argue in my Human Events column today, from the turmoil in the Middle East to the federal budget, the President has been indecisive, distracted, disengaged, and derelict in the face of our country's most serious challenges. You can read my piece here.

Labor in full roar again, but it's not the same
Labor is a wounded animal
Labor is roaring again, like in the old days. But it's a wounded sound now.
In the bitter aftermath of a showdown with Wisconsin's governor, and as other states move to weaken public employee bargaining rights, unions and their allies dare to hope they can turn rage into revival. This could be a make-or-break moment for a movement that brought the nation the 40-hour week, overtime pay, upward mobility, a storied century of brawls, progressivism and corruption - and now a struggle to stay relevant in the modern age.

DOJ to white male bullying victims: Tough luck
Sorry fat white kids
The viral video sensation showing a bullying incident at an Australian school has brought the issue of bullying back into the spotlight. Here in the United States, the Obama administration has made school bullying a federal issue. Last week, President Barack Obama addressed an anti-bullying conference with First Lady Michelle Obama at his side. The administration's anti-bullying campaign has been ongoing since the beginning of Mr. Obama's term. The Department of Justice announced in December 2010 its intention to hold liable school districts that fail to protect students that are bullied.

Only $2.3 trillion?
A new assessment of President Barack Obama's budget released Friday says the White House underestimates future budget deficits by more than $2 trillion over the upcoming decade.
The estimate from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says that if Obama's February budget submission is enacted into law it would produce deficits totaling $9.5 trillion over 10 years - an average of almost $1 trillion a year.

Congressional Recess Call to Action: FreedomWorks Launches NEW Cap and Trade War Room
This week Congress is on recess and that means your legislators should be back home in their districts and focused on their constituents' top concerns. This is a great opportunity to communicate what is important to you and ensure that it is on your elected officials' minds when they return to Washington, D.C.
TAKE ACTION!
In particular, it is key that we continue to build the case for stripping the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ability to regulate greenhouse gases and effectively stop Obama's backdoor cap and trade strategy dead in its tracks.
A couple weeks ago, FreedomWorks issued a "call to action" in support of The Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011 (S.482 in the Senate & H.R. 910 in the House) -- bold legislation introduced by Senator James Inhofe (R, OK) and Representative Fred Upton (R, MI-6) that would permanently stop EPA from implementi ng its backdoor cap and trade scheme. Thanks to hard-working conservative activists like you, the response was overwhelming and we hit Congress with over 63,000 emails and letters in just a matter of days. Last week, a sudden scramble occurred that could have put this bill before a vote in the Senate. FreedomWorks worked quickly in select states to drive calls into targeted Senate offices and within 24-hours had pounded select Senators with nearly 1,000 grassroots phone calls.
This overwhelming pressure forced Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D, NV) to delay the Senate vote for fear of it passing. Moreover, it has helped to create serious momentum for the Inhofe-Upton legislation in both the House and Senate...but it is not enough.
This week it is going to be critical that Members of Congress hear first-hand from their voters that passing this legislation is of the utmost importance.
FreedomWorks has set-up a special online "war room" to help you make an impact on behalf of the Inhofe-Upton bill -- download our March Recess Action Kit and visit your Senators' and Representative's district offices; email and call your legislators' offices; and stay up-to-date on the latest news on Capitol Hill. You can access the war room by clicking here.
Again, this is a very important week in the battle to stop cap and trade. Don't sit on the sidelines! Visit FreedomWorks Cap and Trade War Room now and encourage your fellow activists to do likewise.
Sincerely,
Dick Armey Chairman, FreedomWorks

Dear Supporter, You may be aware that I have been banned from entering the United Kingdom. I am not a terrorist or a murderer or a criminal of any kind. I am one of the leading talk show hosts in the United States. But because the leftist Labor government of Gordon Brown was under fire for excluding Muslim terrorists from Britain, they added my name to the list to achieve a perverse kind of "balance." My crime? I noted that while most Muslims were not terrorists, most terrorists were Muslim. That was called hate speech and I cannot enter the land where the Magna Carta was written! This challenge to my right of free speech is an assault on democratic values everywhere. If the United Kingdom can take action against someone for expressing political opinions that some might consider incorrect, where will the censorship stop? The others on the banned list are all convicted criminals or suspected terrorists. It is the height of shame to be included in such company merely for expressing my opinion. All my efforts to redress this incredible situation have been stonewalled by the UK authorities. I am resolved to step up the fight and I need your help. I want to restore my good name. But this process is very expensive and time consuming and the censors in the UK hope that I will give up. But I won't! Congressman Alan West has written Hillary Clinton to call for my elimination from the list. I hope you will join my battle. It is the battle of free men and women everywhere. I need your help. For my upcoming birthday, would you be good enough to consider a donation to my legal defense fund. I will gladly show my gratitude by sending anyone who donates $100 or more a personally signed copy of my latest book Trickle Up Poverty. If any funds are left after my battle concludes (in success) I will establish a "Conservative Scholarship Fund" for deserving college students. I know times are tough right now, but I am asking for your help to fight for free speech.

"Hey, you're into organic food? Just like Heinrich Himmler! He was as crazy about it as you are! He had this great plan to feed the entire SS on nothing but organic food. Problem was organic food requires about four times as much land to produce as non-organic food and the Nazis just couldn't grab enough of it. Anyway, not being a Nazi myself I prefer to stick to non-organic food. It's cheaper, and it means there's more land to spare to feed the people who need it. You know, Third World people and Untermenschen like that."

Farrakhan to Obama: Who the hell do you think you are?
Glenn plays the incredible audio coming out of a Chicago radio station of Louis Farrakhan absolutely going off on Obama over Libya. He's apparently friends with Muammar Gaddafi and apparently he's not a big fan of the attacks on Libya. He warns Obama to stop letting the evil white man make him do things he doesn't want to do, at one point asking 'who the hell do you think you are?' to Obama. Hear the audio and Glenn's analysis HERE.
Media cheerleads Obama's war for oil
After spending the last 8 years crying about wars for oil and how war is not the answer, the press seems completely OK with war this time around. Obama sought no approval from Congress, didn't even consult with key members of his own party before launching the attack, and has laid out no clear strategy or mission goals - despite all of this there is no outcry. Details HERE.

Glenn responds to the ridiculous attack on radio today. Watch a clip of the segment at GlennBeck.com.
