State NullificationState Nullification

State Nullification is a political action firmly rooted in the founding of America and its two principle documents: the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The concept itself was articulated best by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions of 1798. Nullification is based on the Compact Theory- that the Federal Government was created by the sovereign states to act on their behal...f as a limited agent within the expressly enumerated and limited powers in Section 1, Article 8 of the US Constitution. As the principals, the States are the final arbiters for determining when its agent (the Federal Government) has overstepped its bounds. Although Supreme Court opinions are important ruling within the Federal Government, the Federal courts as constructed by the framers are not the final word with regard to Constitutionality between the Federal Government and the States. Rooted in the 10th Amendment, Nullification has a rich history in both the North and the South during the 19t Century. Nullification has experienced a popular rediscovery and resurgence in the 21st Century with many states invoking the 10th Amendment, State Sovereignty, and Nullification as the rightful remedy in protecting their citizens against an increasingly unconstitutional Federal Government.

An excellent primer on Nullification is this video of Thomas Woods.

The PA 10th Amendment Coalition was formed to be a collaborative, social networking springboard for grassroots across the Pennsylvania who are interested in promoting 10th Amendment solutions in Pennsylvania. It was initially an outgrowth of the Pennsylvania Tenth Amendment Center which is a State Chapter of the Tenth Amendment Center (TAC). TAC is leading the fight across the US with such prominent Constitutionalists as Thomas Woods, Judge Andrew Napalitano and Sheriff Richard Mack. The Coalition has grown to include a large number of grassroots groups across Pennsylvania with focus on educating on the 10th Amendment and also influencing mindsets and legislation in Harrisburg. There are a number of 10th Amendment pieces of legislation in Harrisburg, including resolutions around State Sovereignty, and bills related to Health Care Freedom and Real ID. These bills and materials related to the 10th Amendment and Nullification can be found on the following websites:

YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED: Call Your Representatives NOW!

CALL NOW!!  INSIST THAT GOP CONGRESSMEN ACT NOW TO DEFUND OBAMACARE.  CALL House Leader John Boehner to urge his support.

$105.5 BILLION in AUTOMATICALLY APPROPRIATE FUNDING hidden within the Obamacare law MUST BE SHUT OFF NOW - before it is used, before it is too late!

The best - perhaps the ONLY - way to stop the feds from using that $105.5 billion is to include in the Continuing Resolution ("CR" - the temporary legislation to keep the government running) language that would forbid the use of ANY funds to implement ANY part of Obamacare.  As the CR stands now, it denies any additional funding for Obamacare but does NOTHING to stop the use of this $105.5 billion.  The CR will likely be voted on this Wednesday, March 16.

Reps. Michele Bachman and Steve King have crafted a pledge for Congressmen to sign which promises a NO vote on the CR unless it completely defunds Obamacare by cutting off these automatic appropriations.  Read the pledge at

Pledge%20doc.pdfTHIS is the time to make this happen with the leverage afforded by the possibility of a government shut-down if the House, the Senate, and the President do NOT approve the CR before funds run out on the 18th.

TO DO...

  1.  Learn more about the $105.5 billion loophole in the current CR.  Read this article

  1. Write/FAX/CALL/Email your local GOP Congressmen/women to demand that they act NOW on their promises to defund Obamacare and SIGN THE KING/BACHMAN PLEDGE.  Congressional switchboard 202-224-3121 (or better yet, Google your Rep's name to find his direct contact info; Fitpatrick (202) 225-4276)
  2. Write/FAX/CALL/Email Speaker Boehner to press him to stand strong NOW and go all the way in defunding Obamacare by including language in the CR to cut off the $105.5 billion automatic appropriations - OR LET THE GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN.   His contact info http://johnboehner.house.gov/Contact/

OUR GOP REPRESENTATIVES NEED TO HEAR THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE NOW TO STOP THE FUNDING OF OBAMACARE.  Please PASS THIS ON..............................for liberty, Jaime

Border Patrol nabs 100s of terror-linked illegals

Critics contend Obama sending signal to enemies 'to do their worst'

WorldNetDaily| By Bob Unruh |

Posted: March 10, 2011

Hundreds of illegal aliens from terror-linked nations such as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Pakistan, Iran and Syria have been nabbed by the U.S. Border Patrol sneaking illegally into the country, and an organization that monitors government's actions and prosecutes malfeasance says given Barack Obama's record on border security, it's not a surprise.

The terror-linked illegals were among the 463,382 individuals apprehended being smuggled - or smuggling others - across the U.S. borders last year according to federal documents obtained by Judicial Watch.

"Truth Be Told"

There is no shying away from this ugly truth, just because it's unbearably painful to contemplate.  It's time to face it square on.

I began my report on the family slaughtered in Itamar late last night.  Here I continue:

It was members of the Fogel family who were slain in their home on Shabbat.  Rabbi Udi Fogel, 36, who taught at the Itamar yeshiva.  Ruth Fogel, 34.  Yoav, age 11.  Eldad, four.  Tiny baby Hadas.

Here you have a picture of Eldad, with the beautiful (unabashedly I say, kissable) face of a happy child.  Look well, and then understand that he was stabbed in the heart.  His baby sister had her throat cut.

 ~~~~~~~~~~
There is a fence around Itamar, and I'm receiving conflicting stories about how the terrorists got in.  What seems to have happened is that some alarm was set off by the fact that the fence was touched, but as the Itamar security guards did not find a break in the fence -- it apparently had been jumped --they assumed it was an animal and pursued it no further.
~~~~~~~~~~

Inside the Fogel home, the parents fought their attackers; there is evidence of this.  The murderers missed two of the children sleeping in another room: Ro'i, eight, and two-year-old Shai.

The Fogel's twelve-year-old daughter, Tamar, was out at a Shabbat youth group gathering.  When she returned, she found her slaughtered family.

Can you imagine?

~~~~~~~~~~
Brace yourselves, but don't spare yourselves.  See here photos of what Tamar found when she entered her home:
https://picasaweb.google.com/picsyesha/Itamar
When there have been terrorist attacks here in Israel it has not been the norm to put out photos like this because of a sensitive desire to protect mourners.  But these pictures were released by the Yesha Council with the permission of the family, because it's time to take off our gloves.  It's time for the world to "get it" with regard to what Jews here endure.
~~~~~~~~~~

With the help of neighbors who came running at her piercing screams, Tamar brought out her two live siblings.

They are all being cared for by their grandparents, Chaim Fogel and his wife (whose name I do not have) of Nevei Tzuf, in Samaria.  The senior Fogels were given the terrible news in the middle of the night by Nevei Tzuf emergency service workers, who then brought them to Itamar.  There, they saw the scene of horror for themselves and brought the living grandchildren back with them.

The funerals are taking place now -- at 1:30 PM -- as I write, at Har Hamenuchot Cemetery in Jerusalem.

~~~~~~~~~~
May the Almighty embrace the souls of those who were murdered in a flood of light and total peace, while avenging their deaths.  May He be ever with the surviving children.
May there be strength for the senior Fogels and other friends and family who will care for the surviving children.  And may the love of the caretakers who will tend to them bring succor to the Fogel children, so that in time they may re-build their lives for good.
And, finally, may our people Israel know this sort of tragedy no more.
~~~~~~~~~~

More words, in a televised statement last night, from Prime Minister Netanyahu:

"I noticed that several states which rushed to condemn Israel for building a house in some place are taking their time in condemning the murder of children."

Netanyahu said he was shocked by the ambiguous condemnation of the attack by PA leaders -- which I shared last night which I will repeat below for your use, along with some new information on incitement).  He further stated:

"I am disappointed by the weak and mumbled statements. This is not how one condemns terrorism. This is not how one fights terrorism...there has never been anything like this, in which terrorists entered a home and cut children's throats.

"This requires sharp and unequivocal condemnation. This requires something else. This requires a halt to the incitement.... The time has come to stop this double-talk in which the Palestinian Authority outwardly talks peace, and allows - and sometimes leads - incitement at home. The time has come to stop the incitement and begin educating their people for peace."

~~~~~~~~~~
Well OK.  Netanyahu has finally said it.  It's been time for him to say this for a long while.  The fact that he says this now means he knew all along, of course. Knew of the PA duplicity and continuing incitement.
Now we must hold him to what he has said, demanding that he mean it:
Not a single concession.  Not for Obama. Not for the EU.  Not out of fear of being isolated internationally.  For nothing.
Those concessions bring no peace.  They simply make us weaker and more vulnerable.
~~~~~~~~~~

Netanyahu must know and fully internalize this fact: His responsibility is to the safety of the people of Israel, not to the larger world.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak has particular culpability with regard to this situation, because he has always been so eager to make concessions to show the world how prepared we were to "make peace."  In the area around Itamar, there have been checkpoints taken down, and security checks relaxed.

And so not only should there be no more concessions, there should be a reinstatement of security measures, in line with the government's responsibility to protect the people.  Since 1984, when Itamar was founded, 20 of its members have been killed by terrorists.  No more!

Netanyahu should fire Barak now, and replace him with Moshe Ya'alon.  And if he refuses to do so, at the very least, he must take the helm of his government and himself make the necessary tough decisions to protect the Israeli people.

~~~~~~~~~~
And there is yet one action that should be taken by the government of Israel now:  Civil law should be applied to all of the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria. It's time to stop the charade of proceeding for peace, and to assert our rights.
~~~~~~~~~~

And so, my friends, there are some actions I now request of you:

Share this posting very broadly.  Put it out everywhere.  With the news focus on the tragedy in Japan, most people will not know of this.  And people must know, in order to understand.

~~~~~~~~~~
Then, please, contact Prime Minister Netanyahu.  As always, I ask that you be respectful, brief and to the point.
  • Tell him that he must be strong.  Now that he has publicly faced the truth of the duplicity of the PA, he must not fall back into a pattern of making concessions.  Not for any reason.  Concessions bring death to Israeli innocents and make Israel weak.
  • Implore him to act on behalf of the security of the people of Israel, as this is his overriding responsibility as head of the Israeli government. This means, among other things, reinstating security checks where they have been removed.
  • Ask him to stand with strength at the helm of the government, dismissing Defense Minister Barak, who has pushed so often for dangerous concessions, and replacing him with Moshe Ya'alon.
  • Implore him to extend civil law to all of the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.  The charade is over: there is no partner for peace.
E-mail: Memshala@pmo.gov.il and also pm_eng2@it.pmo.gov.il(underscore after pm) use both addresses
Remember that numbers count.
~~~~~~~~~~

Then, please, I ask US citizens to contact your representatives in Congress. Tell them you are informing them about the situation in Israel, as full information may not have come to them.  Without that information, they would not be able to make proper decisions.  Then describe the attack, briefly.  Don't be afraid to include the link to the pictures of the slaughtered children.  Say that a four-year-old was knifed in the heart and an infant had her throat slit.

Explain that it is crystal clear that the PA is not a partner for peace and that it only weakens Israel to make further concessions.  Use the material I've provided in this posting to bolster your position, especially with regard to what PA leaders said and how PM Netanyahu responded.

Tell them that it would be wrong to demand more concessions of any sort from Israel, and that Israel has an obligation first to protect her civilian population.

Provide them with this link from Palestinian Media Watch, which exposes PA incitement: http://www.palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=4793

One day before the terror attack, Sabri Saidam, who is an advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas and under-secretary of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, delivered a speech.  In that speech, according to the newspaper Al Ayam, "He emphasized that the weapons must be turned towards the main enemy [Israel] and that internal differences of opinion must be set aside."

This was picked up by Palestinian Media Watch http://www.palwatch.org .

~~~~~~~~~~
Comments on the attack by PA officials:
After an initial silence, PA president Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday that he rejects "all violence against civilians."
But look at all of the qualifying:
Abbas, in his statement, said, "violence produces violence and what is needed is to speed a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict."
What violence produces violence?  There is nothing, but nothing, even remotely that Israeli Jews have done that is "violent" in the sense that this attack is violent.  So Abbas is drawing a false and obscene moral equivalency.
And then this becomes a sort of justification.  If only we will stop our "occupation" and give them their state, then the violence would stop.  Of course, that is not so either, twice over.  Not so that we are "occupiers." And not so that our pulling back would stop the hatred and the terror.
To further obfuscate the issue, PA foreign minister Riad al-Malki said that his ministry condemns the killing of Israelis by "people whose identity remains unknown."
"The killing of an infant and the slaughtering of people in this way was never carried out by any Palestinians for national motives or revenge. This puts a question mark over the swift accusation made by the Israeli side - to the effect that Palestinians had carried out the attack."
Al-Malki, ever concerned about how his people look to the outside world, attempted to deny the patently obvious.
RedState
RedState Morning Briefing
For March 14, 2011
1. Will Freshman House Republicans Keep Their Promise?
House Republicans are unveiling their next short-term continuing resolution today to keep the government from shutting down on March 18. It is a three week-extension, $6 billion in cuts with no new policy riders.
Sound good? It's not. Realize what is going on here. House Leadership unfortunately continues to be gripped by fear of a government shutdown. It is why these short-term extensions do not include any new policy riders, such as the one to deny federal funding to Planned Parenthood or to defund Obamacare. These extensions are carefully calibrated to not prompt a veto threat from the White House.
By fearing a fight that could lead to a shutdown, House Leadership is letting the White House play rope-a-dope with them. The House has spoken. It passed a long-term bill that includes $61 billion in cuts and various aforementioned riders to defund objectionable activities of the federal government. This bill was based on a promise to the American people that Republicans would make a down-payment in the face of a staggering $1.5 trillion deficit, and when the Speaker said, "Read my lips," he was promising a real fight. Not this.
2. How House Republican Leaders Are Going to Betray House Republican Freshmen
Allow me to explain what the House Republicans are doing - not that they will ever admit it.
The House Republicans leaders are scared to death of shutting down the government, never mind that a shutdown is really just a slow down.
The House Republicans leaders absolutely, unequivocally do not want a shut down. Mean time, the Democrats would love a shutdown. They remember 1995, and they remember that it was the government shutdown of 1995 that put Bill Clinton back in the driver's seat.
While all of this is going on, we have Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid saying we cannot defund the National Endowment of the Humanities because no one would show up at a cowboy poetry festival in Nevada.
We also have Senate Republican Saxby Chambliss now saying he's willing to consider tax increases and unwilling to defund National Public Radio.
With the House Republicans' unwillingness to shut down the government, they've out negotiated themselves. But the leadership and its inability to effectively whip its own freshman means the leadership needs a plan to scare the beejeezus out of Freshman Republicans. That plan requires a three week continuing resolution.
Let me tell you why.
3. Letter to Leadership to Defund ObamaCare Immediately
Wednesday the House will consider another Continuing Resolution. Including language to defund ObamaCare is our opportunity to stop the flow of funds to ObamaCare once and for all. Our suggested language is, "Notwithstanding any other provision of law, none of the funds made available by this or any previous Act with respect to any fiscal year may be used to carry out the provisions of Public Law 111-148, Public Law 111-152, or any amendment made by either such Public Law."
4. Rep. Tim Huelskamp Stands Tall in Budget Showdown
Heritage Action for America (my employer), Club for Growth, and Family Research Council released a joint statement announcing their opposition to the three-week continuing resolution on floor of the House of Representatives next week, and their decision to "key vote" the extension on their respective scorecards. In doing so, they joined Mark Levin, Erick Erickson, and others, who are calling for conservatives to step up and lead by blocking this legislation.
Freshman Rep. Tim Huelskamp of Kansas just answered that call. In a bold statement late last night, Huelskamp announced his opposition to the short-term resolution.
5. Union-Controlled NLRB Approves Union Thuggery in Union Elections
On Friday, in its continuing attempt to hand over the American workplace to union bosses at all costs, the union-controlled National Labor Relations Board has thrown employees' rights under the bus once again. This time, however, the NLRB's obedience to union bosses could cause employees to get hurt.
6. Wisconsin cops & firemen break their oaths.
It would seem that loyalty to their union masters take precedence over loyalty to the people of Wisconsin. From a contemptible letter written to M&I Bank threatening a boycott:
"The undersigned groups would like your company to publicly oppose Governor Walker's efforts to virtually eliminate collective bargaining for public employees in Wisconsin. While we appreciate that you may need some time to consider this request, we ask for your response by March 17. In the event that you do not respond to this request by that date, we will assume that you stand with Governor Walker and against the teachers, nurses, police officers, fire fighters, and other dedicated public employees who serve our communities.
"In the event that you cannot support this effort to save collective bargaining, please be advised that the undersigned will publicly and formally boycott the goods and services provided by your company."
Now, this would not be a contemptible letter if it were signed by members of private sector unions. Private sector unions work in trades, and they have the right to make informed business choices (and even uninformed ones). But public sector union members are supposedly public servants - and they are expected to avoid even the hint of impropriety in their labor disputes.
7. White House Falsely Takes Credit For Oil Production Increase
The White House Blog, in a post entitled "Expanding Safe and Responsible Energy Production", lays out the case for the Obama Administration as a long-time supporter of domestic oil and gas:
"One area where we have focused our efforts since the start of the administration - long before this current spike - is increasing responsible domestic energy production - including oil and gas. In fact, oil production last year rose to its highest level since 2003. From 2008 to 2010, oil production from the Outer Continental Shelf increased more than a third - from 446 million barrels in 2008 to an more than 600 million barrels of estimated production in 2010."
Have these people no shame? (Note: Rhetorical question.)
The Time to Cut Spending is Now
Posted March 11th, 2011
Last November, voters sent a clear signal to Congress: cut spending and get our government in order. As we watch the current debate in Washington over how to fund the government for the rest of 2011, it is clear that some heard the voters' message and others are flatly ignoring it. The House of Representatives took decisive action and passed a bill cutting $61 billion from the status quo. President Obama and his Senate allies insist on irresponsibly choosing to do practically nothing.
Conservative Feminism is Not an Oxymoron
Posted March 11th, 2011
Hillary Clinton will be feted this Friday at a "world summit" event hosted by Tina Brown, the editor in chief of  Newsweek.This week Brownrelaunched the magazine with a cover story featuring Hillary as one of the "150 Women Who Shake the World." Clinton and other public figures such as Christiane Amanpour and Nancy Pelosi as well as pop culture icons like Mia Farrow and Susan Sarandon own the message on strong women. They embody the identification of so-called "women's issues" with left-leaning politics. But conservatives don't have to relinquish the banner of feminism to liberal ideology.
The primary (and most literal) dictionary definition of feminism is "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." However, in popular ideology it has unquestionably been superseded by its secondary, connotative definition, "organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests." "Interest" has been broadly interpreted to mean virtually any liberal agenda. This has led to the frequent claim that for a woman to be conservative, she betrays her sex; there is no such thing as a conservative feminist.
A First Step in Congress for School Choice in D.C
D.C. School ChoiceEarlier today, the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results (SOAR) Act, a bill sponsored by Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to reauthorize the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, passed out of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and is now on its way to consideration in the House. The bill passed by a margin of 21 to 14. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), chairman of the OGR committee, issued the following statement:
Today's vote continues the bipartisan momentum to restore educational choice and opportunity for schoolchildren in the District of Columbia. Independent studies and reports from parents and students have validated the educational benefits the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program has provided to low-income D.C. students.
MUSLIMS NOW CALLING FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY.... IT'S OFFENSIVE TO THEM!
Sickening! Here is the link to the sharia site that is promoting this line of thinking to it's followers.
http://shariah4america.com/NewYork/The-Islamic-Demolition-of-the-St...
If this is a parody it's not funny at all... but even if it is a parody you know as well as we do that the extremists/jihadists  want anything that represents America and our freedom removed and replaced. Is it really that difficult to believe they would dismantle the Statue of Liberty in a NY minute? First of all they do not revere or respect women at all....to have a woman statue has to be a thorn to them.
The point is to BE AWARE and CAUTIOUS as to what is occurring everyday around us. They have practically taken over many areas of Europe...it can happen here as well.
Thanks, Darla
George Will: On Libya, there are just too many questions
In September 1941, Japan's leaders had a question for Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto: Could he cripple the U.S. fleet in Hawaii? Yes, he said. Then he had a question for the leaders: But then what?
Following an attack, he said, "I shall run wild considerably for the first six months or a year, but I have utterly no confidence" after that. Yamamoto knew America: He had attended Harvard and been naval attache in Japan's embassy in Washington. He knew Japan would be at war with an enraged industrial giant. The tide-turning defeat of Japan's navy at the Battle of Midway occurred June 7, 1942 - exactly six months after Pearl Harbor.
Today, some Washington voices are calling for U.S. force to be applied, somehow, on behalf of the people trying to overthrow Moammar Gadhafi. Some interventionists are Republicans, whose skepticism about government's abilities to achieve intended effects ends at the water's edge. All interventionists should answer some questions:
Hearing Over; Liberty Survives
The first of Rep. Peter King's (R-NY) hearings in the House Homeland Security Committee on radicalization within the American Muslim community is over. Contrary to the warnings of the ACLU, many media pundits and left-wing politicians, liberty is still flourishing.
There were no reports of Muslims being dragged from their homes or mosques by angry mobs incited to violence by Rep. King. There is no effort to restrict immigration from Muslim countries. No internment camps are being constructed.
But there is something terribly wrong with the left's impulse to silence debate and fact finding. Fortunately, some liberals such as the Washington Post's Ruth Marcus defended the hearing. Unfortunately, some Christians have been drinking the left's Kool-Aid and complained that these hearings amounted to discrimination and profiling. Are they serious?
In response to the criticism, Rep. King recently said, "They are caught in a world of denial. They want to believe everyone loves each other and all hold hands and [sing] Kumbaya. My job is to keep Americans alive." Good for him. And kudos to Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA), who used part of his time during yesterday's hearings to warn about the radicalization of young Muslims that is taking place in his northern Virginia district. Rep. Wolf recounted six examples, including:
  • Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, the 1999 valedictorian of the Islamic Saudi Academy, now serving a life sentence for plotting the assassination of President George W. Bush.
  • The arrest in Pakistan of five Muslim American teenagers from Fairfax County, Virginia, who attempted to join jihadist groups.
  • Zachary Chesser, a graduate of Oakton High School, who was arrested last year for trying to join a Somali-based jihadi group.
What happened to these young Muslim men? What led them to plot the assassination of our president and to take up arms against the country of their birth?
Melvin Bledsoe wants those questions answered. He testified at yesterday's hearings about the radicalization of his son Carlos, who converted to Islam, traveled to Yemen and then murdered a U.S. military recruiter in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 2009.
Mr. Bledsoe warned the committee, "This is a big elephant in the room and our society continues not to see it. Our children are in danger. Our country must stand up and do something about the problem. Tomorrow it could be your son, your daughter."
There was encouraging news at the hearing in that it offered an opportunity for moderate Muslims to speak up. Abdirizak Bihi of Minnesota recounted for the committee how his family was pressured by mosque leaders and others in the Somali Muslim community after he went to the FBI with concerns that his nephew and other young men had left the country to join jihadist groups.
Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a former Navy lieutenant commander, told the committee, "This needs to be a serious assessment of the threat posed to our national security. The course of Muslim radicalization in the United States over the past two years makes it exceedingly difficult for anyone to assert with a straight face that in America we Muslims do not have a radicalization problem."
Dr. Jasser went on to call for American Muslims who love liberty to wage an "an ideological counter-jihad" against political Islam and the forces of separatism and radicalization.
These are the voices we need to hear more often. They are faces of the American Muslim community that we need to see on the evening news and at the White House, not CAIR and other apologists for Islamic radicalism.
House Will Defend Marriage
This week, Speaker John Boehner directed the House General Counsel to defend the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act in court. The order came after a 3-to-2 vote by the House's Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group, comprised of the House leadership. Not surprisingly, the two no votes came from House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and House Democrat Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD).
In response to the vote, Speaker Boehner said, "This action by the House will ensure that this law's constitutionality is decided by the courts, rather than by the president unilaterally."
I appreciate Speaker Boehner's willingness to step up and defend the institution of marriage. There are millions of Americans who do not view normal marriage as a form of bigotry. In fact, the voters of 31 states have gone on the record in support of statutes and constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
Obama Is Vulnerable
Earlier this week, I asked for feedback on whether the GOP nominee in 2012 should go after Obama on policy issues only or whether he or she should go after Obama on his values too. Overwhelmingly, you said you wanted a candidate who would challenge Obama's values as well as his policies. Some of you wrote back that you believed Obama's policies stem directly from his values and that the two are inseparable.
I agree, and here's some encouraging news: The American people seem to be catching on. A Rasmussen poll this week found that 61% of likely voters felt Obama was "more ideologically liberal than they are." Even 29% among self-identified Democrats felt Obama was more liberal than they are.
Just 24% of voters felt Obama's views were the same as theirs. Any politician should be concerned when just a quarter of voters believe they share the same values or when 61% feel the incumbent is out-of-touch.
My friends, Obama is vulnerable!
He is demonstrably out of touch with the American people on most issues. Whether it's redefining marriage, promoting abortion-on-demand, socializing our healthcare, driving up energy costs, reckless deficit spending or apologizing for America, voters are increasingly realizing that Mr. Obama is not the post-partisan centrist he claimed to be in 2008. This poll gives me hope that our efforts to expose him are succeeding!
In the weeks and months ahead, Obama and his allies, including the liberal media, will spend record amounts of money trying to convince voters yet again that he is something other than a left-wing socialist. We cannot let our guard down.
We must continue to educate friends and family members. Share these reports with them. Engage them on the facts we present. And make sure all your like-minded friends and family members are registered to vote! Like it or not, the 2012 campaign is underway. It's never too early to lay the foundation for victory. Working together we will stop Obama's socialism!
How Netanyahu can out-maneuver Obama's latest threat to Israel
By Caroline B. Glick, Jewish World Review
The most effective way to defend Israel against Obama is to boldly assert, defend and implement a unilateral Israeli plan. Here it is.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is stuck between a diplomatic rock and a political hard place. And his chosen means of extricating himself from the double bind is only making things worse for him and for Israel.
Diplomatically, Netanyahu is beset by the Palestinian political war to delegitimize Israel and the Obama administration's escalating hostility. That hostility was most recently expressed during President Barack Obama's meeting with American Jewish leaders on March 1. Insinuating that Israel is to blame for the absence of peace in the Middle East, Obama scolded Jewish leaders telling them to "search your souls," over Israel's seriousness about making peace.
Obama's newest threat is that through the so-called Middle East Quartet, (Russia, the UN, the EU and the...
McCarthy: "No Intervention in Libya"
Better to support a secular dictator, whether our ally or not, than support the opposition who want sectarian dictator who will surely be our enemy. T. Belman
In the absence of compelling national-security interests, we should stay out.
By Andrew C McCarthby, NRO
I am against intervention in Libya. In explaining why, four things about the ongoing commentary and handwringing over no-fly zones and other potential U.S. intrusions seem noteworthy.
First are the sudden torrents of disdain for Muammar Qaddafi by commentators who spent the Bush years saying this very same terrorist - who even then was repressing the very same opposition he is fighting now - was a great ally of the United States against terrorism. I carry no brief for Qaddafi; I thought it was reprehensible for our government to try to launder him into a statesman, much like Clinton did with Arafat. But given that this strategy only tightened Qaddafi's grip on power, it's a bit much for us suddenly to be told that we...
Mortal threat
Mar 12, 2011 05:13 am | Coach Collins
By Jim Emerson, staff writer
While briefing the US Senate Committee about Worldwide threats, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper was asked by Sen. Joe Manchin D-West Virginia on which country is the greatest threat to America. In Gen Clapper's assessment was that Russia and China are the greatest threats.
 Their nuclear arsenals do pose a mortal threat to the U.S. mainland. However, the DNI did point out that the U.S. does have a Nuclear Treaty with Russia but not with China.
START
The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) is an arms reduction treaty between the United States and Russia. Like it or not it is still in effect. The DNI doesn't believe the Russians have no desire to have a nuclear exchange with us.  According to Clapper "We have a treaty, the New START treaty, with the Russians. I guess I would rank them a little lower because we don't have such a treaty with the Chinese."
The Chinese have ... Continue Reading:Mortal threat
A Report from the Hill: Inside the House Homeland Security Committee Hearing on the Radicalization of Muslims
by Lisa Piraneo, Director of Government Relations
I arrive at the Cannon House Office Building at 7:30 a.m.-two hours before the scheduled start of Congressman Peter King's (R-NY) much-publicized hearing on Muslim Radicalization in our country. For the past few months Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated groups like the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) and Hamas front group CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) have been whipping the Muslim community and the media into a frenzy about this hearing. There have been rallies in New York City and front page articles in the so-called "establishment media" about how "unfair" and even "dangerous" holding this hearing will be.
So I expect there will be a large crowd waiting to get into the Committee room and I am right. There is a line from its entrance all the way down the hall, wrapped around the corner, and half way down the next hall. I park myself in line and wait.
More people arrive. More press arrive. More police arrive. There have been threats against Chairman King leading up to the hearing and it is clear they are being taken seriously. A police officer confronts several bowtie-wearing gentlemen in front of me for cutting into line. They see the length of the line and realize that the odds of them getting into the hearing if they go to the end are slim to none. "You need to get to the end of the line, sir." He says. "See all of these people behind you? They are waiting too." There is some tense back and forth and finally they acquiesce.
The waiting crowd is clearly majority Muslim or Muslim-American. I hear multiple discussions about how unfair Representative King is-and lots of strategy about what to do once the hearing is over. Some waiting in line have signs with them. One reads "Stop Demonizing Muslims." Standing directly behind me is Alejandro Beutel, of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. He gives multiple interviews to press while waiting in line, telling them that the organization is taking a "wait and see" approach.
At 9:15 a.m.-an hour and 45 minutes after I arrived and 15 minutes prior to the hearing's commencement-an announcement is made that the Committee room will soon open. Warnings are given from both the Capitol Police as well as Committee staff that outbursts and signs in the hearing room are against House rules and will not be tolerated. The line starts to move, slowly. They are letting people in the room a little at a time. I learn that a large section of the small hearing room is already taken up by press. Not a good sign for me.
I am 10 people away from the doors to the hearing room when an announcement is made that the Committee room is now full. The choice to the hundreds still in line: stay there and take the chance that others will leave the hearing, opening up additional space; move to a small "overflow room" right next to the Committee room; or go home. I opt for the overflow room, as I don't want to miss one second of the hearing. In a matter of seconds, the overflow room is filled to capacity as well, as it is already half full with press when I arrive. I grab one of the few remaining seats and get ready to Tweet.
Representative King, as the Committee Chair, speaks first, offering his Opening Remarks. He states that today's hearing will be the first of a series dealing with the "critical issue" of the radicalization of Muslim-Americans. He states "Let me make it clear today I remain convinced that these hearings must go forward. And they will. To back down would be a craven surrender to political correctness and an abdication of what I believe to be the main responsibility of this committee-to protect America from a terrorist attack."
The hearing is divided into two panels: The first panel consists of two sitting Members of Congress: Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Representative Frank Wolf (R-VA). During Representative Ellison's remarks, he breaks down and openly weeps when talking about Mohammad Salman Hamdani, an American Muslim firefighter who died on 9/11 and notes how his name was smeared. Congressional drama. I've seen it often and it can distract from the issue at hand. A news report later in the evening notes that no such smears against the firefighter could be found in a Google search.
Representative Wolf speaks next and comes out swinging, especially at CAIR. He states "My concern about CAIR is not limited to its disturbing origins and connections to terrorist financing. I am equally concerned about CAIR's role in attacking the reputations of any who dare to raise concerns about domestic radicalization."
No questions are posed to either Member of Congress after they make their statements. Time for Panel Two, which consists of Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, a medical doctor and former U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander; Abdirizak Bihi, whose nephew left the states to join al-Shabaab in Somalia; Melvin Bledsoe, the father of Carlos Leon Bledsoe (aka) Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad, a Muslim convert who attacked an Army recruiting office in Little Rock, Arkansas killing one soldier; and Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca.
Though I have attended many congressional hearings, I am shocked by the behavior of some of these elected officials as they interact with the witnesses. It is rude and disrespectful-particularly toward Dr. Jasser, who stresses that terrorism will never be eliminated until the political side of Islam is removed. He also notes that there are Muslim groups in the U.S. who are pledging their allegiance to the Koran instead of to the U.S. Constitution. A vast majority of the audience in the room clearly disagrees with Dr. Jasser as there is a lot of eye rolling and snickering when he speaks.
Some examples that I include in my Tweets:
  • Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) condescendingly states that she doesn't think that the families and Dr. Jasser are "experts" about this issue and that she didn't find their information "enlightening," adding that she is Catholic yet cannot speak on pedophilia in the priesthood.
  • Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) states that there is no "redeeming factual information" at the hearing and that you can't "clean a dirty kitchen with dirty water." She warns that the Constitution is in "pain" and that the hearing should have focused on the civil rights movement. Later, she is gaveled down by Chairman King, as she disregards him multiple times when he tells her that her time to speak has expired. More political theater with no benefit to the issue at hand.
  • Rep. Al Green (D-TX) chastises Rep. King for not holding a hearing on the KKK, saying that "we've had 100 years of terrorism perpetrated by the KKK on Jews and African Americans."
  • Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), in a stunningly condescending tone to Dr. Jasser and Mr. Bledsoe, says that "extreme" is in the "eyes of the beholder."
Also, I am surprised by the callous responses of the audience all around me-most of whom are clearly Muslim-American. Throughout the hearing they laugh at Dr. Jasser and Mr. Bihi-also Muslims. I feel that they are not affected by the pain of the family members at the loss of a child and nephew to radicalization and, in Mr. Bihi's case, also to death. Mr. Bledsoe's testimony ends with "God help us! God help us!"
The behavior of the Members of Congress who speak down to Dr. Jasser, Mr. Bihi and Mr. Bledsoe, and the repeated negative reactions these three get from the crowd of Muslims in the hearing room, is disturbing. Over and over we hear from government officials and the media that most Muslims are peaceful and law-abiding, and yet when three brave Muslims come forward to speak out against the ideology driving Muslim radicalization they are not praised by these four Members of Congress or most of the Muslims in the crowd-they are belittled. What message does that send to Muslim-Americans who are in agreement with Dr. Jasser? Stand up and be counted? Hardly.
Fortunately, there are Members of Congress who clearly "get it"-in addition to Chairman King-and it's refreshing.
Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-MN) asks Sheriff Baca if he realizes that, when he works so closely with CAIR, he is working with a terrorist organization (Hamas) and he cites the Holy Land Foundation Trial.
Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) speaks of the political ideology of Islamism. He says that he is "outraged...outraged!" by this Administration's failure to define the enemy. He shows a slide that demonstrates the number of times words like "enemy," "jihad," and "Muslim Brotherhood" are mentioned in the 9/11 Commission report, and then in comparison how many times they are mentioned in the government's security lexicon-zero.
All this from two freshman Members of Congress. What a difference an election makes! In addition, other Members of Congress such as Reps. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Mike McCaul (R-TX), Paul Broun (R-GA), Mike Rogers (R-AL), Tim Walberg (R-MI), Patrick Meehan (R-PA) and Candice Miller (R-MI)-all speak eloquently of the threat of radical Islam to the country and to the Constitution.
After over three and a half hours and lots of furious Tweeting by me, the hearing comes to an end. In the press conference that Chairman King holds immediately afterward he announces that the next hearing will be on Muslim radicalization in the U.S. prison system.
My final Tweet is geared toward preparation for further advancement of the cause: OK. Rep. King's 1st hearing on Muslim radicalization is done. Next step: Write 2 YOUR MOCs 2 voice your concern about the issue. Speak up.
A European's Warning to America
The perils of following us toward greater regulation, higher taxes and centralized power.
By DANIEL HANNAN
On a U.S. talk-radio show recently, I was asked what I thought about the notion that Barack Obama had been born in Kenya. "Pah!" I replied. "Your president was plainly born in Brussels."
American conservatives have struggled to press the president's policies into a meaningful narrative. Is he a socialist? No, at least not in the sense of wanting the state to own key industries. Is he a straightforward New Deal big spender, in the model of FDR and LBJ? Not exactly.
My guess is that, if anything, Obama would verbalize his ideology using the same vocabulary that Eurocrats do. He would say he wants a fairer America, a more tolerant America, a less arrogant America, a more engaged America. When you prize away the cliché, what these phrases amount to are higher taxes, less patriotism, a bigger role for state bureaucracies, and a transfer of sovereignty to global institutions.
Administration Urged to State Its Libya Stance Clearly
(CNSNews.com) The Obama administration is being showered from all sides with often conflicting advice on the crisis in Libya, but one common thread running through much of the counsel is that the U.S. should lay out a plan and a goal, and then follow through. Good Christian Women Should Boo
By L. Brent Bozell III
Today's installment of the Decline and Fall of Western Civilization comes from Hollywood as if thats a surprise. Tinseltown is demeaning Christianity again as if thats a surprise, too. But this time, its not some gutter-mouthed punk. This time its a network doing it, formally. ABC has approved a pilot with the title Good Christian Bitches. Is this what Christian women especially the good ones -- deserve?
After the Revolution
By Patrick J. Buchanan
Revolutions liberate people from tyranny, but also free them up to indulge old hates, settle old scores and give vent to their passions. What are the passions that will be unleashed by the revolution that has the Arab nation of 300 million aflame? What will eventually unite this turbulent region -- when its peoples fail to achieve what they are yearning for -- is who and what they are all against.
This is one of the most agonizing videos we have ever produced.
Two weeks ago we sent our media team into the middle of a rally organized to defend taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. We wanted to expose what the defenders of Planned Parenthood really believe.
What we witnessed left us speechless.
Click here to watch our new video
The abortion industry is often portrayed as a big-hearted caring industry that simply wants to serve low-income women. Their supporters claim that stripping Planned Parenthood and abortion providers of taxpayer funds will hurt everyone.
Of course this is a lie. Planned Parenthood is billion-dollar organization that is chiefly concerned with one thing -- the destruction of innocent human life.
Some of the footage we captured will shock you. Some of it will make you sad. But I hope it will encourage you to take action.
The fight over taxpayer support for Planned Parenthood is about much more than budgets and deficits. The fight is ultimately about our vision for America -- a vision that cherishes mothers, families and the gift of human life.
Our vision is one of hope. Theirs is filled with anger and hopelessness.
See for yourself and resolve to get involved today.
Sincerely,
Brian Burch
Voices of Moderation
Freedom Politics | Thomas Sowell | Posted March 11, 2011
Moderation-- at least verbal moderation-- is suddenly in vogue.
President Obama's rhetoric has moderated, even if his policies and practices have not. Among Republicans, voices of moderation are warning that the party cannot win elections without having a "big tent" and reaching out to Hispanics, for example. Recently, talk show host Michael Medved has suggested that Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin should moderate their attacks on Obama.
Moderation is fine-- if it is not carried to extremes. But some moderates seem to think that it is always a good thing to tone down your words. Yet history shows that muffling your message can mean forfeiting many a battle to extremists.
No one has had more of a mixed and muffled message than Senator John McCain, which is why Barack Obama is President of the United States.
Obama Indigestion Causing Gas Pains
Gas pains
The national average for gas is approaching $4 per gallon, once again causing pain at the pump. According to the U.S. Energy Department, the average yearly cost for an American family to fill up the car with gas will rise 28 percent from last year, or about $700. A family can't lose that much money without also losing the ability to buy other goods or services. The price of gasoline has skyrocketed by 67 percent since Barack Obama took office, but, needless to say, he isn't letting this crisis go to waste.
The fact is that Obama's energy policy is working exactly the way it was designed to work. His intent is to drive up the price of fossil fuels in order to make alternative energy sources seem more appealing. Alternative sources have been heavily subsidized for years and yet still can't rival fossil fuels, so, Obama reasons, prices on the latter must be driven higher.
In 2008, now-Energy Secretary Steven Chu said, "Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe." Obama began work on that less than one month after taking office in 2009 by reversing George W. Bush's expansion of offshore oil drilling. When the BP Deepwater Horizon spill occurred in April 2010, the administration took this as a golden opportunity to enact a moratorium on offshore drilling. Despite multiple court rulings against that moratorium and even being ruled in contempt, however, the administration persists with its policy.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar put up the Left's favorite straw man, saying, "[W]e don't believe that the 'drill, baby, drill' program is the way that's going to get us to the energy independence that we need for America." No one says that domestic drilling on its own would achieve energy independence, but putting so much of our own oil off limits or underutilized -- offshore, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), the Bakken Formation to name but a few examples -- certainly doesn't help.
The White House has countered by floating a proposal to release some oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to bring down prices. This is a bad idea for two reasons. First, it doesn't replace domestic production, and, second, it would need to be replaced as expediently as possible, thus merely kicking the can down the road. In essence, the administration is admitting that supply must increase to offset price hikes, but in every other way, it's working against supply increases. Such rank indifference to the plight of ordinary Americans has become a White House hallmark.
"A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded slammed Japan's eastern coast Friday, killing hundreds of people as it swept away boats, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control," the Associated Press reports. "The magnitude-8.9 offshore quake unleashed a 23-foot (seven-meter) tsunami and was followed by more than 50 aftershocks for hours, many of them of more than magnitude 6.0." As we went to press, Hawaii was being swept by tsunami waves, as well. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected. News like this certainly puts things in perspective
Collectivist Tyranny Continues in Wisconsin
The standoff in Wisconsin between the fiscal common realism of Republican Gov. Scott Walker and the entrenched state unions and their Democrat lackeys came, at least in part, to an abrupt end this week. State Senate Republicans used a parliamentary procedure to remove the spending measures from Walker's proposal to limit collective bargaining significantly, allowing GOP senators to pass the bill without the chamber's 14 Democrats, who fled the state three weeks ago in an attempt to prevent passage by denying the chamber a quorum. The state assembly followed the senate, passing the bill 53-42. Rather than debate Walker's argument that state unions are severely hampering Wisconsin's ability to close its nearly $4 billion budget gap, Democrats found it easier to chastise Republicans as cowards -- all while they themselves hid in an Illinois hotel to avoid participating in the citizens' elected government.
Union leaders and their hired thugs descended on Madison to lock up the Capitol building and protest raucously, issuing threats (and in some cases, trying to carry them out) of physical violence and even death against Republicans. They overwhelmed state house security, climbed through windows and have done over $7.5 million in damage to the building. The source of their anger is obvious -- without government support, public-sector unions are shrinking in size and power. Given that union support is almost entirely for Democrats, it's no wonder both parties want to continue the cozy relationship.
This law will be a major blow for those who seek to continue the status quo of cushy jobs and generous pensions at our expense. Union organizers are now hoping to reverse this defeat by initiating recall drives for the Republican senators and Gov. Walker, once again proving that the Left's respect for the American system of government is limited to how far they can bend that system to their own will.
This Week's 'Alpha Jackass' Award
"So they're going to escalate the protests [in Wisconsin] -- you will either have collective bargaining through a vehicle called collective bargaining or you're going to have it through the streets. People here will fight back because they think their cause is moral and they have nowhere else to go." --rabble rouser in chief Jesse Jackson
New & Notable Legislation
Sens. Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) introduced a bill to cut funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which has received over $4 billion in taxpayer money since 2001 to run National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). "Americans struggling to make ends meet shouldn't be forced to fund public broadcasting when there are already thousands of choices for educational and entertainment programming on the television, radio and web," DeMint said, adding that Barack Obama's own bipartisan debt commission proposed ending the subsidies. NPR receives only 2 percent of their funding from taxpayers, and PBS 15 percent, making it likely that these organizations would easily survive without government aid. In fact, erstwhile NPR fundraising executive Ron Schiller said (among other things) that they would be "better off" without federal funding.
Rep. Doug Lanborn (R-CO) is leading the House effort to defund NPR. He made note of the "condescension and arrogance" apparent in a sting video that caught Schiller discussing his unvarnished views of conservatives with two members of conservative filmmaker James O'Keefe's Project Veritas who posed as part of a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood. Schiller told the men that he viewed the Tea Party as "really xenophobic, I mean basically they are, they believe in sort of white, middle-America gun-toting. I mean, it's scary. They're seriously racist, racist people."
Schiller resigned from NPR after his words were made public, and he also won't be taking that position at the Aspen Institute he thought he had. NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller (no relation) likewise stepped down this week in the aftermath of the video. She had already been taking flak for the recent firing of commentator Juan Williams after he made comments on Fox News Channel that seemed to contradict NPR's ideological bent. It's time for NPR and PBS to stand or fall without taxpayer support.
Correction: On Wednesday, we erroneously attributed Ron Schiller's quote about the Tea Party to Vivian Schiller. We regret the error.
Hope 'n' Change: ObamaCare's Waivering Appeal
The Department of Health and Human Services issued another 126 waivers to ObamaCare this week, bringing the total number of exemptions to 1,040. The exempted groups -- corporations, non-profits, unions and other entities -- have been allowed to maintain their current insurance schemes for at least one year because they have proven in some fashion that ObamaCare's insurance mandates would cause financial harm. Additionally, the state of Maine has received a three-year waiver to opt out of the requirement that insurers spend at least 80 percent of the premiums received on medical care. If ObamaCare is so well put together, why the need for all these backdoor exits? One reason is that they will no doubt be offered to unions and blue states in exchange for political favors in 2012.
This new strategy of lenience in administering the president's signature legislation is a subtle admission that ObamaCare doesn't work as an insurance program -- but it becomes more evident every day that it works just fine as a political payoff tool. The administration's painfully slow march through the courts in defense of the law struck down by Judge Roger Vinson in January is another example of this admission. The administration hopes that by stretching out the appeals process as long as possible, they may be able to build up ObamaCare to such an extent that the Supreme Court won't strike it down. They plan to do this by implementing various aspects of the law with an automatic funding mechanism that has effectively hidden $105 billion in the budget. As Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." Republicans are working to repeal this portion of the law.
In the meantime, Democrats appear to have quietly given up pursuing confirmation of Donald Berwick to a full term as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Berwick, who was recess-appointed to CMS last year, has a record that even Democrats have come to realize is indefensible. In 2008, he was quoted as saying, "Sick people tend to be poorer and that poor people tend to be sicker and that any health care funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized, and humane must, must redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent health care is by definition redistributional." By Berwick's reckoning, even ObamaCare is too conservative. Though Obama resubmitted his nomination, 42 Republicans wrote a letter opposing Berwick's confirmation, meaning that it's highly unlikely that it will happen.
From the 'Non Compos Mentis' File
Barack Obama has hired yet another czar -- this time a "Cabinet czar" to serve as a liaison to his own Cabinet. Media adviser Tom Gavin has been appointed to serve as Cabinet communications director, and his job description is "to better coordinate with and utilize members of the Cabinet." Isn't the president the Cabinet czar? We suppose Obama is too busy being the golf czar and needs a Cabinet czar to keep those pests from interfering with his game.
Being Liberal Means Never Having to Say You Were Wrong
Having painted George W. Bush as a torturer, a destroyer of constitutional freedoms, and a villain from the dystopian novel "1984," in true Orwellian fashion, Team Chosen One has arrived full-circle at exactly the same policy positions on terrorist detainees as the Bush administration. Specifically, the Obama administration announced this week that military tribunals would resume, thus implicitly conceding that Guantanamo Bay would likewise remain open for the foreseeable future. The Leftmedia was too busy doing the drug called Charlie Sheen to take full notice.
This decision owes to the Hamdan v. Rumsfeld ruling and its congressional backlash, the Military Commissions Act of 2006 that effectively relegates detainee tribunals to Gitmo. Obama's abrupt pirouette was accompanied by not so much as a hint of admission of miscalculation regarding the wisdom of Bush administration policies. The Wall Street Journal summed it up best: "No one has done more to revive the reputation of Bush-era antiterror policies than the Obama Administration."
Perhaps its court "win" over terrorist Ahmed Ghailani was a bit too much of an embarrassment for the administration to suffer yet another public drubbing by admitting -- again -- it was wrong. Of course, Americans now recognize Ghailani simply as the terrorist who was acquitted of more than 224 murder counts in a dog-and-pony "showcase" civil trial. They also remember that he was just one acquittal count shy of walking away as a free man, notwithstanding his pivotal role in the bombing of two U.S. embassies in Africa.
Incredibly, however, Team Best-and-Brightest still hasn't received the memo, reaffirming its commitment this week to civilian trials for terrorists in the same breath it announced resumption of military tribunals. Apparently, the liberal alternative to admitting an error in judgment is simply to affirm the error while simultaneously back-peddling on actual policy.
Finally, the administration also announced it will dispense with a cornerstone of the laws of armed conflict, declaring that the U.S. will now treat as legally binding a radical 1977 add-on to the Geneva Conventions, a protocol rejected since the Reagan administration. This protocol effectively erases the otherwise clear line between lawful and unlawful enemy combatants, effectively de-incentivizing potential enemies to follow the laws of armed conflict. Thus, while terrorists do not respect any of the commonly recognized international combatant rules, American soldiers will now be forced to treat them as though they do, affording them protections they do not deserve and ultimately putting even more American lives at risk.
Department of Military Correctness: Minority Report
The U.S. military has been taking the fight to Jihadistan on two fronts for nearly 10 years and faces the possibility of fighting elsewhere in a restive Middle East. The troops are stressed and equipment is wearing out. Throw in other duties the military performs, such as disaster-relief missions, as well as competition from a rising Chinese military that may match U.S. capabilities in a few years, and it's now obvious that one of the most serious problems the U.S. military faces is, uh, well, that it's too manly and too white. Seriously. You can't make this stuff up.
That is the conclusion of a report by the Military Leadership Diversity Commission ordered by Congress in 2009 and released Monday. The report declares that the U.S. military is too white and too male at the top and needs to change its promotion policies and lift its ban on women in combat. The Commission, whose members included military personnel as well as businessmen and civilians, said greater diversity in the military's leadership is needed in order to better reflect the diversity of U.S. Armed Forces and American society as a whole. The report said efforts to develop a more equal opportunity military have generally succeeded, but "despite undeniable successes ... the armed forces have not yet succeeded in developing a continuing stream of leaders who are as diverse as the nation they serve."
On the contrary, the U.S. military is not a laboratory for Leftist utopian fantasies. As we have stated before, the sole purpose of the U.S. military is to defend our nation and serve its interests by bringing controlled, sustained violence against an enemy until that enemy is dead or defeated. Nothing more, nothing less. Any policy which jeopardizes that purpose must be avoided at all costs. The best, and only the best, leaders must be allowed to rise, based on merit and nothing else. If this results in a military that doesn't exactly track the minority percentages of American society, then so be it. At least we'll know that we have the best military possible protecting that society.
Obama Pats Himself on the Back for Doing Nothing About Libya
Moammar Gadhafi and his band of thugs continue to put up a fight against the uprising that has taken control of about 75 percent of Libya. Loyalist soldiers and foreign mercenaries, supported in some cases by aircraft and helicopters, have been able to defeat any of the rebels who attempted to stand and fight, but the rebels still hold most of eastern Libya and much of the south. After several days of being bombed and rocketed by Gadhafi's airplanes, rebel leader and former Justice Minister Abdul Jalil pleaded on Wednesday for Western intervention in the form of a no-fly zone, a wish unlikely to be granted. The White House seems to have little appetite for military action, and none of the Europeans can plausibly project airpower into the skies over Libya even if they wanted to.
The White House has not recognized the opposition administration set up in Benghazi, despite repeated announcements that Gadhafi's regime is illegitimate. The failure to act has only emboldened Gadhafi, who along with better armed forces has vast sums of cash to spend. It has also left France -- France -- in the position of leading the Western response. None of this stopped Barack Obama from boasting about his efforts in the matter, saying, "We have already engineered the most rapid and forceful set of sanctions that have ever been applied internationally." Take that, Moammar!
Even the leftist Washington Post concludes in an editorial, "Mr. Obama, who skipped a meeting of his top aides on Libya Wednesday, may hope that the Libyan rebels will defeat the [Gadhafi] forces without outside help -- or that other Western governments will provide the leadership that he is shunning. Meetings of NATO, the European Union and the Arab League in the next several days may produce decisions that loosen the straitjacket the administration has applied to itself. If not, the world will watch as Mr. [Gadhafi] continues to massacre his people, while an American president who said that he must go fails to implement any strategy for making that happen."
Around the Nation: New York Eyes Wisconsin
As states nationwide battle budget crises, New York has emerged as a perfect example of what not to do. After years of catering to employees' unions, the costs are catching up. According to a recent New York Times editorial, salaries and benefits for state employees amount to $18.5 billion, or 20 percent of the state's budget. In 2009, average pay for full-time state workers was $63,382, far higher than the statewide average income of $46,957.
To add insult to injury, the cost for New York taxpayers to fund the state's pension system has ballooned from $100 million in 2000 to $1.5 billion today -- in no small part because New York state workers contribute a minuscule 3 percent of their pay to their pensions (half the percentage typically contributed by state workers nationwide). Additionally, the state's allowance for "double dipping" means that retirees collecting pensions can return to state employment and collect both a pension and a salary. How convenient for the 2,000 people currently doing so.
Unfortunately, it's not convenient for New York taxpayers, though that doesn't matter to the unions. As yet, they have refused to accept Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo's requests for a salary freeze and for larger employee contributions to pensions and health benefits. Perhaps they still think of their status as one of the state's largest political donors will pay their way out of real negotiations. The reality, though, as the Times accurately suggests (yes, the Times actually got some things right this time), is that New York's long-term viability depends on its ability to control the costs of its public workers -- whether unions like it or not.
Does British Health Care Offer a Preview of Things to Come Here?
If one British health official has her way, the newest casualties of that country's government-run health care system will be its most helpless and vulnerable citizens. Dr. Daphne Austin, a National Health Service (NHS) consultant who provides advice on health funding allocation, is suggesting that babies born after only 23 weeks of pregnancy or sooner be left to die. She claims doctors are "doing more harm than good by resuscitating 23-weekers," that treatments have "very marginal benefit," and that money would be better spent "providing support to people who have much more lifelong chronic conditions." Translated: lives have relative fiscal value, and 23-weekers come up short.
Ironically, Austin actually suggests she's speaking for the babies: "There's a lot of emphasis on the parents' views and what they want. But somewhere in there, there needs to be an advocate for the baby." If she's the best advocate these tiny lives have, heaven help them. Yet that's what one gets in the zero-sum world of government health care where "death panels" are alive and well. The objections raised by government health care advocates at even the suggestion that death panels will come to the U.S. are as meaningless as all leftist denials throughout the decades. Should ObamaCare survive, Britain's system foreshadows where we're headed.
Second Amendment: Illinois Considers Releasing Gun Owner List
The battle lines are drawn in an Illinois conflict between an attorney general who wishes to release the names of all 1.3 million state firearm owner registration holders and a state representative who wishes to carve out an exemption to the state's public records law to protect their identities. The Illinois State Police, which maintains the list, has twice refused Attorney General Lisa Madigan's request to make the records public.
Madigan, a Democrat who once served in the same state senate in which Barack Obama voted "present," claims that releasing the names in compliance with a Freedom of Information Act request last fall by an Associated Press reporter wouldn't be an invasion of privacy or endangerment to permit holders. State Rep. Ron Stephens disagrees. "My gun ownership is none of your business," he contends, and his bill exempting permit holder records from FOIA requests awaits approval by a House committee -- it deadlocked 5-5 on a vote there last week, but Illinois House rules allow such bills to be reconsidered.
Opponents of releasing the data, including a number of Second Amendment advocacy groups, fret that such release could target both holders and non-holders; in particular, those who have permits would be targets for gang retribution and harassment. Obviously non-holders may as well place a "Gun-Free Household" sticker on their doors and see how well that works.
Since the ISP isn't budging on its refusal to turn over the information, it appears the issue will find its way into court. While the requirement for a permit itself is questionable, it's presumable the people who need to know already have the information. So, aside from satisfying the curiosity of the nosy neighbor, where is the benefit in making this public?
Georgia Court Upholds Voter ID Law
By a solid 6-1 margin, the Georgia Supreme Court rebuffed a Democrat effort to throw out the state's law requiring photo identification to vote. While Democrats claimed that the law imposes an unauthorized qualification on voters and unduly burdens them, their case was considerably weakened when they couldn't produce any voters denied their franchise by the law. Moreover, the Justice Department (under President George W. Bush) approved the Georgia law under the Voting Rights Act, making Georgia one of a handful of states where changes to state election law must be approved for compliance with the VRA.
A similar law in Indiana passed muster with federal and state courts in the last three years. As in Georgia, plaintiffs couldn't produce a victim either. Five other states also require photo identification at the polling place: Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Michigan, and South Dakota. In all cases, voters are allowed to cast a ballot, although in Florida, Georgia, and Indiana they are given provisional ballots.
Faith and Family: Abstinence Gains Traction
New findings by the National Survey of Family Growth have validated the "abstinence only" curriculums championed by the Bush administration. The Left had long ridiculed and vilified these programs, saying they don't work and calling President Bush "too religious." Now they have contrary evidence to ignore.
According to the survey -- which focused on the 15-24 age group -- 29 percent of females and 27 percent of males reported never having had sexual contact with another person. This is a dramatic 22 percent increase from 2002, when the survey was last conducted. In addition, there has been a 40 percent decrease in teen pregnancy since its peak in the 1990s.
Most of the findings -- including the news that most adults are monogamous -- are positive; however, the news is not all good. The survey showed that more than 40 percent of children are born to unwed mothers. Studies consistently show that fatherless children are five times more likely to experience poverty (and become dependent on government welfare), as well as being at a substantially greater risk for behavioral and social problems.
The survey's results also lend credence to the policies of religious universities, such as Brigham Young. Last week, BYU's nationally ranked basketball team suspended a sophomore and star forward after the young man admitted that he and his girlfriend had been sexually intimate. BYU's honor code includes the expectation that students will lead a "chaste and virtuous life," a view that according to the National Survey of Family Growth, seems to be gaining traction with America's youth.
And Last...
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) opposes defunding anything where the government already spends money. Well, for Democrat constituents anyway. In opposing the House Republicans' bill to cut $61 billion in federal spending, Reid spoke from the Senate floor this week saying, "The mean-spirited bill, H.R. 1, eliminates National Public Broadcasting. It eliminates the National Endowment of the Humanities, National Endowment of the Arts. These programs create jobs. The National Endowment of the Humanities is the reason we have in northern Nevada every January a cowboy poetry festival. Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist."
The people wouldn't exist without federal funding? Whatever, Harry.
What really jumped out for us, though, was the reference to cowboy poetry. For some reason, it made us think of the closing narration in "Braveheart," only with a modern twist. In the Year of our Lord Common Era 2011, patriots of Nevada -- starving and unionized -- charged the deserts of America. They fought like cowboy poets, they fought like Democrats, and won their subsidies.
IMAGINE
A BILLION DOLLARS  It's like the Beverly Hillbillies in some of these counties with Natural Gas companies buying up gas leases. Marcellus Shale is the Pennsylvania's Opportunity for job growth and higher standard of living.
 "Cabot Oil and Gas has spent more than $1 billion in Susquehanna County since 2006 and expects to add 54 wells in 2011. External relations director George Stark told a packed Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday that his company would be around "for a long while" and the 400 jobs it has had a hand in creating to date will only grow as new wells come online. The company has drilled 149 wells to date."
Marcellus Shale  Edible Fracking Chemicals From American Thinker:
"Fracking chemicals are used to fracture shale-rock formation, releasing natural gas deposits, and the possibility of these chemicals contaminating ground water has given greens a rationale for trying to block access to a clean-burning domestic fuel.
The Wall Street Journal howeverreports good news today in its story, "Edible Ingredients Used to Drill for Gas."  Apparently Halliburton and Baker Hughes have developed fracking chemicals using fatty acids and other ingredients found in toothpaste, ketchup, ice cream and beer.  The enemies of cheap natural gas of course won't congratulate Halliburton for being a good steward of the planet and switch their position.   I wonder where the next attack will come from.  Fatty acids in the edible fracking chemicals lead to an obesity epidemic in the caribou population? Conservatives for corporate welfare?
By: Sen. Tom Coburn 03/10/11
Cutting spending in Congress is so difficult because every area of the budget is defended by an army of special interests and perverse alliances that often defy reason and common sense. Nowhere is this more evident than with the federal government's ludicrous $6 billion subsidy of ethanol, which I and Sen. Ben Cardin, D-MD, have proposed to eliminate.
A recent post in The Examiner illustrated why the ethanol subsidy endures despite widespread opposition from the Left and the Right. On one hand, your writer declares, "government support for ethanol is among the most destructive and wasteful giveaways to special interests today."
Dear Patriot,
Rand Paul is taking the fight to the statists and rocking the Washington establishment.
During a Senate Energy Committee hearing last Thursday, Senator Paul laid into an Energy Department bureaucrat over the federal government's seemingly insatiable appetite for controlling our lives.
Click on the image below for this MUST SEE video.
After you watch the video (guaranteed to make your day), come back to read the "not going to back down" letter Rand and seven other senators sent to Harry Reid that same day.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELDHaeEsNF0
This isn't the first time Senator Paul has given voice to the American people's frustrations with out of control government.
Whether it's fighting for $500 billion in cuts to runaway spending, pushing a legitimate Balanced Budget Amendment, or preventing the establishment from ramming through its so-called "Patriot" Act, Rand Paul has followed his father's lead by clearly speaking his mind and championing freedom ever since he came to Washington.
Click here to read his letter to Harry Reid, and, if you can, please also chip in $10 to help Campaign for Liberty recruit more people into the movement to get the establishment out of our lives.
Only your continued support allows us to push back against an ever-growing, out of control state.
We know the federal government isn't going to let up.  So, together, let's remind President Obama and Congress that C4L will never surrender the fight.
In Liberty,
John Tate
By now it should not be news to you that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) is completely out of control.
   Last week I told you about their "Project Gunwalker" program, where the BATFE has been knowingly funneling American guns into Mexico.
   To make matters worse, one of those guns was used by a Mexican drug runner to kill a United States Border Patrol Agent.
   You read that correctly...
   The BATFE's negligence and their obsession with pursuing their anti-gun political agenda cost the life of an American law enforcement officer. It's simply outrageous.
   On top of it all, the arch gun-hater himself, President Obama, has nominated a notoriously anti-gun agent to be head of the out of control BATFE.
   That's right. An anti-gun zealot is about to be put in charge of the very agency assigned to curtail your firearms freedoms. And Capitol Hill sources tell me the Obamacrats are pulling out all the stops to ram his confirmation through.
Make no mistake, Andrew Traver is an enemy of liberty and an enemy of gun owners like you and me.
He is:
  • ...opposed to private firearm sales.
  • ...opposed to civilian ownership of semi-automatic rifles and shotguns.
  • ...in favor of banning all gun shows.
  • ...and he even wants the Center for Disease Control to have oversight of the firearms industry!
   This is the man that Obama wants to run the most anti-gun federal agency in existence. A man that the Brady Campaign "applauded" for his work on disarming citizens.
   Despite being rebuked by the American people on election day, Obama continues to push his anti-gun agenda.
   It's important for Washington to know how you feel about this.
   I urge to you to contact both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to oppose the nomination of Andrew Traver to head the BATFE.
   Andrew Traver is a man who is in favor of Chicago's draconian and oppressive gun laws, the same laws the Supreme Court ruled against (and where my brief was quoted) in the McDonald case. Do you want those laws for your city? How about for your state?
   Or, worse yet, your country?
   Don't make the mistake of thinking that Traver won't try to enact the same jack-booted thug tactics nationwide that he did with Chicago.
   Please give a few minutes of your time to contact both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to oppose the nomination of Andrew Traver to head the BATFE.
   Gun owners like you and me cannot stand by and let them think that the mob-style politics of Chicago work for the rest of your country. Your freedoms are worth a few phone calls.
   Tell your Senator's that the nomination of anti-gun zealots is unacceptable. Entrusting henchmen with large government agencies while no one is looking is what dictators do.
   Don't let a stooge of the Brady Campaign run the most anti-gun and out of control government agency!
   You know that Obama would love to appease his pals in the anti-gun lobby. By nominating Andrew Traver, he can make them happy without endangering his shrinking Congressional cabal.
   Please contact both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121and urge them to oppose the nomination of Andrew Traver to head the BATFE.
   The simple fact is, with a president like the one we have now, we have to be extremely vigilant. He is going to continue to accomplish as much of his extreme agenda behind the scenes as he can. And when he acts, if we don't call him out, it may end up being too late.
   I don't want that.
   Which is why it is incredibly important for you to be as motivated as I am to shine a light on people like Obama and Traver as they attempt to force their liberal, freedom-hating agenda on the American people.
   But I can't do it alone.
   I need you to back me up on this one.
   Please contact both your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121and urge them to oppose the nomination of Andrew Traver to head the BATFE and when you're done, chip in $5 or $10 to help us continue to get the word out and fight these battles.
   Yours in Freedom,
Eric Holder: Black Panther case focus demeans 'my people'
Attorney General Eric Holder finally got fed up Tuesday with claims that the Justice Department went easy in a voting rights case against members of the New Black Panther Party because they are African American.
Holder's frustration over the criticism became evident during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing as Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) accused the Justice Department of failing to cooperate with a Civil Rights Commission investigation into the handling of the 2008 incident in which Black Panthers in intimidating outfits and wielding a club stood outside a polling place in Philadelphia.
Phila Inquirer Sunday March 13, 2011
"Former  [DEMOCRATIC] Mayor John F. Street is under investigation for possibly violating federal regulations when he voted to award millions of dollars in Philadelphia Housing Authority contracts to a law firm that employed his son, a federal official confirmed Friday.
Street was chairman of PHA's board when he cast the votes, and his son, Sharif, was then a lawyer for Wolf, Block, Schorr & Solis-Cohen. The firm billed $778,000 for the younger Street's PHA work.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Inspector General - which oversees civil and criminal inquiries - gave a hint of the investigation in releasing an audit Thursday. It focused on Street's votes between 2004 and 2007 for five resolutions involving contracts worth up to $29.5 million."
   the teacher's union    its bureaucratic enablers   and here and here  advance the interests of a unionized government monopoly school system, segregated by zip code, that puts teachers unions and their enabling bureaucrat first before the students. "What are Students Learning?" is not their interest and what does it say of those who take money from the PSEA, the School Teachers' Union, and support this failing, dysfunctional, dangerous system which is bankrupting The Forgotten Taxpayer and betrays the children they are supposed to look out for?
 I-74 - Ind. Republicans Spoof on Fleebagging Democrats in Satire Song
74 bring them home to the place they belong, Indiana, not Urbana, take them home 74
Pat Bauer, lost his mind, took his caucus, ran across state lines,
Right to work, PLA's, bunch other stuff, made them run away.
Chorus:74, bring them home, to the place they belong, Indiana not Urbana take them home 74
Sympathize most deeply with the tragedy of Michelle "Lady Macbeth" Obama,
who, thanks to the oppressive white male hegemony against which she so rightly rails, has been constantly thwarted and frustrated in her arduous rise from Princeton to Harvard to prestigious law firms to the black D.C. ghetto in which she now resides. Say: "She's angry and she has EVERY right to be!"
Diss Avatar (method 2):
Annoy liberals by praising it as one of the greatest libertarian parables ever made. The Na'vi people, like all good conservatives, cherish their God-given landscape. The film is about the battle to protect their property rights against a sinister governmental machine that tries ruthlessly to steal from them. All hail James Cameron: a truly great conservative filmmaker!
Oil dips below $100 after quake
According to the AP: "Oil prices dipped below $100 for the first time this month.The quake is likely to cut short-term demand for crude from Japan, which is the world's third biggest oil consumer. So far, a Saudi Arabian "Day of Rage" set for Friday has not materialized,which may also be holding oil prices lower than expected." Get the full story from The Blaze HERE.
Megyn Kelly schools Jesse Jackson
Jesse Jackson is publicly bashing Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker for his 'ramrod' style of politics, claiming that "there is a sense of death" for the poor people in America. That's an insult to actual poor people around the globe, who live in huts and go to the bathroom in a community ditch. Being poor in America means you have a Geo instead of a Benz.  Plus, does anyone remember Jackson complaining about procedural trickery to pass a bill when Democrats jammed Obamacare through? Jackson's response is pathetic, and Kelly slams it. WATCH.
Walker vilified for saving 1500 jobs
Unions, unwilling to give any concessions in the midst of a massive budget shortfall, have shown they would rather let members of their own union get laid off than give up any ounce of power. Gov. Walker signed the anti-collective bargaining law into effect today, thus saving about 1,500 jobs. The left will continue to complain - even though leftist icons like FDR and even the AFL-CIO were once staunch opponents to government unions being able to collectively bargain.
