The Graduates of 2011 2011grads
By Gail Lotze, Head of School

Graduation time - a time of mixed emotions!  Six great 5th graders walked "the walk" on Friday, May 27 in the Funroom at Chance School.  Parents, families, friends, faculty and staff celebrated Matthew Isham, Max Lyle, Camille Rougier, Max Sadler, Nicholas Scarfe and Rushil Shah - confident and capable students ready to take on the challenge of middle school.

Inspirational "pearls of wisdom" that embodied the Chance program were shared with the graduates.

  • Be thinkers - have faith in yourselves and continue to use the good heads on your shoulders.
  • Listen and learn while being kind, thoughtful, thankful and grateful.
  • Treat others as you wish to be treated.
  • Be a friend. To have a friend is to be a friend.
  • Carefully gather all of the information before making a judgment or a decision - if you come upon a roadblock, go around it.
  • See challenges and mistakes as opportunities.  Never give up.
  • Continue your love of learning and your hard work ethic, making every minute count.
  • Always do your best and be proud of yourselves.
  • Follow your dreams and be true to yourselves.
  • And, of course, as we say and practice at Chance School, do the right thing!

On behalf of everyone at Chance School, congratulations and best wishes to the 2011 graduates.

Congratulations Graduates!
By Sue Musson, Program Coordinator

As another school year draws to an end and we send our graduatesgrads2011 off to various middle schools in the community, I am reminded of each child's amazing "journey of learning" and the value of completing the Chance School program. As a result of our enriching program and our respectful approach to educating the whole child, each leaves well-educated, capable, and with a strong sense of character and integrity. Chance School is committed to the value and strength of these ideals; knowing that during these formative years, each child establishes the skills and attitudes that become a foundation for a lifetime.

Graduates - May you each remain an actively, involved learner in and out of the classroom. Find ways to celebrate who you are and explore all that you have to offer by contributing to your family, school and community. Congratulations on all of your individual accomplishments!

Following is a list of our amazing graduates and the school they will each attend:

Patti Ogden says goodbye to Chance School after 22 years!

What a fitting way to wind down a stellar career than to produce a highly energetic and enthusiastic Jump Rope Show with the elementary students.  That is just who Patti Ogden is.

Twenty-two years ago Miss Patti officially joined the Chance School faculty. She tirelessly built from scratch a PE program that is second to none.  Putting the needs of the children at the top of her list, Patti's work has yielded lifelong learners in fitness, health and physical education. Patti's work will forever be the foundation of the PE program at Chance. Over the years Patti has been an advocate for the importance of the specialist areas of learning, truly passionate about the importance of developing the whole child outside of the classroom.

There has been no task that was too big for Patti - from the play "The Magic Forest", 18 years ago, an extravaganza that the children performed at The Mex to the creation of Cross Country and The Chance Chase. Miss Patti has made a difference in the lives of children and created a legacy that will forever enrich Chance School children.

We are excited to announce that our 2011-12 Parents' Council Presidents will be Christine Baltas and Katie Collis.  The 2012 Chance Auction will be chaired by Sue Pearman.  We will be announcing her co-chair soon.  Parents' Council and Auction will be in good hands as these ladies have excellent communication and organizational skills.  Welcome to the team!  They will all be filling their committee chair positions over the next few months.  Please contact them if you are interested in serving.

Many thanks to the entire 2010-11 Parents' Council Chairs and Committees.  Jen Rue and Julia Lundy led an exemplary group of parents and they did much hard work behind the scenes to be sure our parent volunteers were informed and organized.  And to Krystal Fischer, as our Auction Chair, who put together a fantastic Auction crew and made our 2011 Auction a big success.
