Military Birthdays

We would like to wish those in our Edinbrook Military family a Happy Birthday. Please stop at Information Central to sign a Birthday Card for:

PVT Joseph Endres
U.S. Army Reserve

Be an encourager and let him know we are thinking of him and appreciate his service. Remember...it is because he serves, we can enjoy our freedom.

Who's Who
Matthew Saldana

A need brought Matthew Saldana to Edinbrook about four years ago. However, Edinbrook's love and kindness made him stay. "About four years ago, my family was going through a real rough financial period. My stepdad had lost his job. It was a very dark time for my family, but thanks to the loving congregation, most of whom we had never met; my family was delivered groceries along with a group of people who prayed over us on Service Sunday. The kindness and love brought my family to our knees, and to this day, whenever I think about it, it brings tears to my eyes." Matt says without a doubt, Proverbs 3:5-6 is his favorite scripture. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight." It never fails to calm him. When he accepted Christ and overcome with emotion, the man he prayed with kept repeating the verses. Whenever Matt went to him for advice, he would remind Matt of these verses. "I gave my life to Christ while attending the Rock the River Tour with Edinbrook's youth group. I come from a large family with four older brothers and one younger." Matt plays softball, bikes and relaxes, hanging out with family and friends. He finds volunteering awesome and loves seeing the joy on the faces of people he has helped. Matt currently serves as a sound technician in training and just recently got a job as a part-time janitor here at Edinbrook. This fall he will be attending North Central University. You can send Matt an email by clicking here.

Equipping
by Bob Coombe
Equip is defined as the transferring of information and skills to develop people into their full potential in Christ. We read in Ephesians 4:11-13 these word by Paul, "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." The word Paul uses in verse 12 translated "To Equip" basically refers to that which is fit, is restored to its original condition, or is made complete. Medically this word is used for describing the setting of a broken bone or joint back into place. In the political world "equip" is used when bringing opposing factions together so that government can do the work of governing. In Mark 1:19 the same word is used regarding the mending of fishing nets. Equipping is the putting of a thing into the condition in which it ought to be. It is the function of the church to see that the members of the church are educated, guided, cared for, in order that they become what they ought to be, the way God created them in the beginning to resemble Jesus! The goal of equipping people is not simply more Bible information, but moving them to incorporate the truths found in the Word so as to grow and mature into Jesus-followers. We encourage you to find a way to grow in the faith, not simply for knowledge, but life-change that makes you more like Jesus from the inside out!

Current Sermon Series
Spiritual Warfare

C. S. Lewis has correctly pointed out that we can err two ways regarding Satan. Some people give him too much credit, thinking he is an evil equivalent of God. But he is not eternal, all powerful, all knowing and all present. On the other hand, some people give him too little credit, thinking he is a myth or an impotent force. Yet he is a supernatural foe, with hosts of demons that do his bidding of slander, accusation, harassment and oppression. In this series on spiritual warfare, we will expose the adversary and his military tactics. His complete defeat is certain, and his daily attacks can be thwarted. All this is possible because of the believer's Helper, and the spiritual body armor he provides to Christ followers.

AUG 19 - The Helper: The Believer's Victorious Ally

General Information
Welcome to America!
On Monday, August 6th, almost nine years to the day, Elizabeth Brown was reunited with her husband, Emmanuel. Elizabeth and her nine-month-old daughter, Gifty, came to the United State after civil war broke out in Liberia, Africa, and have been anticipating the day when Emmanuel would be able to join them. It took nine years, but God answered their prayers, and they praise Him for His faithfulness and sustaining power. Please reach out to the family and welcome Emmanuel to the United States and to Edinbrook Church.

Our RELENTLESS (Sr. High) team will be leaving on Saturday, August 11th for Jamaica. They are also partnering with Praying Pelican Missions as they love God and love people while working with cement and blocks in the building of a church, VBS/children's ministry, orphanage and nursing home visitation, and street evangelism.

Open House Reception
for Luke & Elizabeth Erickson
Saturday, August 11th - 2:00-5:00 pm
Edinbrew Coffee Shop
Mark and Jane Erickson invite you to celebrate at an Open House on Saturday, August 11th, between
two and five o'clock in the Edinbrew Coffee Shop for their son, Luke, and his wife, Elizabeth, who were recently married.  Luke and Elizabeth will be going back to Spain as missionaries with Avant Ministries. The cost of shipping gifts overseas is very costly, and with the different currency, it is almost impossible to give gift cards, so gift suggestions are limited to monetary gifts. You can either go to their wedding website for a special gift registry or you are welcome to write what you are providing money for on the envelope or in your card.
Backpack Project
Edinbrook Church is once again partnering with Edinbrook Elementary to provide fully stocked backpacks for the coming school year. These backpacks will go to children that are not able to purchase the school supplies that they need to start the new year. For the first three Sundays in August, Edinbrook's Community Impact Team will have a table in the lobby where you can pick up an empty backpack and a list of the supplies needed to fill it. Just purchase the supplies, place them in the backpack, and bring the completed backpack to our table by Sunday, August 26th. If you would prefer to assist this project by helping us purchase the backpacks, just place your gift in an offering envelope and write the words "Backpack" on the outside. Our goal is to supply 70 fully stocked backpacks to the school this year.
GECHAAN Fund Raiser
Dan and Tina Gibbs recently shared about their trip to GECHAAN (Gembu Centre for HIV/AIDS Advocacy Nigeria) and the need for a security wall around the property. This year, our Vacation Bible School offering totaling $1,228.25 went into a starter fund for building the security wall. We would like to encourage people to match or go beyond that amount as an encouragement to the Gechaan Mission and the Gibbs. "Building Blocks" will be placed in various locations (class rooms, Information Central, Edinbrew) where you can place your contributions now through August. The bricks cost $3 each. Thank you in advance for your support.
