Holiday Decorating Movie Favorites
| |
In the movie "Deck the Halls" with
the tagline "There glows the neighborhood," neighbors Danny DeVito and Matthew
Broderick have it out after one of them decorates his house for the holidays so
brightly that it can be seen from outer space.

Hang On!
| |
Before crawling up on the roof to string
the Christmas lights, think about this:
Hospital emergency rooms treat about 12,500 people for injuries, such as
falls, cuts and shocks, related to holiday lights, decorations and Christmas
trees, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The alternative is to hire a
professional light installer. For
those who do not regularly work on ladders and roofs, leave the annual light
hanging "adventure" to those who understand and practice safety protocols and
are physically prepared to do the job.
Enjoy the holidays at home not at the hospital.

Claus, Indiana live within the gated community of Christmas Lake Village
developed around Christmas Lake, Lake Holly, and Lake Noel. All street names are Christmas
themed. The town has the world's
only post office to bear the name of Santa Claus receiving thousands of letters
to Santa from all over the world. "Santa's Elves" volunteers reply to children's letters. The town is home to numerous themed

Did You Know? The first electric Christmas
lights were created by Edward H. Johnson, an associate of Thomas Edison. Johnson is widely regarded as the
Father of electric Christmas tree lights. By 1900, businesses started stringing up Christmas lights. However, electric lights were too
expensive for the average person and did not replace candles until 1930.
|
Did You Know? Christmas lights have their
historical roots from the medieval period where special candles were often lit
at Christmas, symbolic of Jesus' role as the light of the world. The phenomena of the Christingle is
also closely related. Chrstingle
services, promoted by the Children's Society, is a popular family and community
event to raise funds for less fortunate young people. The Christingle itself is made of a lighted candle
symbolizing Jesus mounted on an orange, representing the world.
