Greetings!
The end of summer is quickly approaching, and it's time to start thinking about going back to school. We ask that as you are writing out your back-to-school list, to not forget to add band accessories. Good reeds, valve oil, and quality drumsticks are a few of the many tools necessary in addition to practice to help a player play at their best. Since 1946, Samuel Music has been here to fulfill your music needs, and we ask that you consider our store for all of your back-to-band supplies. Best wishes for fantastic performances and academic success in the upcoming band season.
Sincerely,
Shannon Streif Band & Orchestra Representative

Dr. Felix Chan (Champaign location)
Dr.
Felix Chan received his BM at the University of North Texas. He earned
his Master's and Doctoral degrees in Music from the University of
Illinois.
In addition to the USA and Hong Kong, he has performed in Europe where
he received additional musical training in France (Paris), Austria (the
Esterhazy Palace), Italy and Poland. Dr. Chan has taught piano to
children, teenagers and adults in all levels and abilities for more than
20 years. He is an experienced teacher, recitalist and accompanist.
He
has taught at the U of Illinois and The Conservatory of Central
Illinois. From 2002 to 2007, had over 135 performances in 19 musicals
and was the musical director for two musicals. Dr. Chan's piano teachers
include Ian Hobson, Katherine Glaser (a devoted student of the
legendary pianist and pedagogue Artur Schnabel), Ward Davenny, William
Heiles, Kenneth Drake (an expert in Beethoven and the pianoforte
instrument of his time), Joseph Banowetz and Tony Caramia (jazz piano).
Dr. Chan is also a classically trained singer (baritone). He has sung in
four full-length operas and in many major choral works. The title of
his doctorate dissertation is "The Development of Technique for Playing
the Waltzes of Frederic Chopin."
Joy Rdzak (Champaign location)
Joy Rdzak (pronounced: Rid-zak) has had 40 years of
experience as a pianist as well as a vocalist. Joy opened
her music business in 1988-1996, in Chicago, teaching private piano and
voice lessons. She then shared her talents in Romania from 1996 - 2004
and in Poland from 2004 - 2008 teaching and performing. This was an
enlightening time that matured Joy's teaching skills.
It was priceless to have engaged with students from all over Europe.
Throughout the years, her ear for music has made her free in expression. As a pianist as well as a solo vocalist she has performed in jazz bands and choirs, sung at weddings and funerals, performed in coffee hours, musical productions and religious gatherings. Joy has also directed children's musicals and choirs. For over 22 years she has been teaching young children, teenagers and adults from beginner levels through intermediate levels and enjoys cultivating musical skills in her students.
Joy believes it is important to expose them to as many musical styles as possible, including classical, contemporary, alternative, rock, jazz, boogie, country, gospel and every other style imaginable! Sandra Dothager (Effingham location)
Sandra began playing piano by ear at a very early age. Her love for
music was inherited from her mother's family who played gospel and
mountain music. As a child, she took traditional piano lessons and
studied flute throughout elementary and high school, continuing piano
lessons while in
college. She attended Kaskaskia College full-time and took additional
classes at both Greenville College and the University of Illinois.
Through
the years she has taught an average of 30 students per week, adults and
children alike, and has developed a specialty in learning disabled
students as well. She is currently teaching piano at a private school.
In the community, Sandra plays for church, nursing home church services,
a monthly combined nursing home and social events. She enjoys playing a
wide genre of music which includes gospel, boogie, rock, jazz, pop,
polka and classical. Sandra's students are encouraged to improvise and
implement ear playing upon successful completion of a piece played as
written.
Norma Fisher (Effingham location) Norma Fisher has over 40 years of experience playing the
piano. As a child, Norma learned piano under the direction of Clara Feldhake, one of Effingham's premier piano teachers in the 1950-1960's. While a student at Marian
College in Indianapolis and Eastern Illinois University, she continued to pursue piano, taking lessons throughout college. She earned a BS in Elementary Education and an MS in Elementary Education Administration, with a concentration in elementary music
education. A teacher for over 30 years, she is now in retirement from public education and is looking forward to teaching private piano lessons.
