Greetings, Mavericks!  Campus elections take place next week for Homecoming King & Queen, UTA Ambassadors, and Student Congress Senators.  Exercise your right to vote as a UT Arlington student Monday and Tuesday (November 14 & 15) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the UC Palo Duro Lounge and at the MAC .  Read about the candidates in the November 14th issue of The Shorthorn.

The African Student Organization (ASO) recently travelled to Houston for the University of Houston's African Cultural Competition.  UT Arlington's ASO took first place in drama, second place in dance, and second place in fashion.  Congratulations to these performers!

Meetings dragging? Not getting anywhere? Morale down?  SGO is here to help, offering your student organization tips, strategies, and resources to improve the effectiveness of your organizational meetings.

[All attendees will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a up to $150 of free pizza for his or her organization.]

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

 

Is your student organization looking for money?  Program Assistance Funds are University-granted monies supplied every year to provide campus organizations supplemental funding for their events and attendance to conferences.  Student Congress oversees the distribution of these monies, and applications are available in our offices in the lower level UC, B150, or online at www.uta.edu/sc.

Deck the MallDeck the Mall

You're invited to be a part of Deck the Mall, a celebration of the season in the glow of holiday lights on the Central Library Mall. There will be free holiday refreshments, crafts and fun.  We would like to offer some space for your organization to be a part of this event. We will provide a table for you to have display information available about your organization and, if you wish, what the season means to you. Flexible, On-Campus Employment for Spring

 

The University College Learning Center is now hiring Peer Educators for Spring 2012.  Peer Educators are current UTA students who are successful in their courses, are seeking flexible, on-campus employment, and enjoy helping other students.  Positions are open now for one-on-one tutors, small group tutors/mentors, and Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders.  For more information on these positions, visit www.uta.edu/tutoringjobs or email utatutoring@uta.edu

Black Leadership Institute (BLI)

Angel TreeAngel Tree Program

 

UTA Volunteers are prompting students, faculty and staff to help underprivileged children for the holidays.  The group is working with the Salvation Army: Angel Tree program to adopt angels, children from less-fortunate families. Maverick Orientation Leaders are the first to welcome new students and parents during the summer orientation program in June, July and August.  Mav OLs develop valuable leadership skills including public speaking, conflict management, teamwork, and problem solving.  For more information and to speak with former Mav OLs please stop by one of ourMaverick Orientation Leader interest sessions.

Multicultural Affairs, the Leadership Center, and the Division of Student Affairs are pleased to welcome Andy Nguyen, Tarrant County Commissioner Precinct 2, to the UT Arlington campus. An award-winning advocate, Nguyen will deliver a motivational lecture about the importance of community involvement. Co-sponsors include the Asian Student Association, Filipino Student Association, and Vietnamese Student Association. All UT Arlington students welcome, so we hope to see you there! *This event counts as a Maversity elective.

Asian Heritage Month, Thoughts of Now and Then

Student Veterans' Workshop Series

 

University College is proud to offer the Student Veterans' Workshop Series, a new program specially designed to meet the unique needs of student veterans at UT Arlington.  This series of workshops centered around building academic success and confronting transitional challenges is presented by a fellow student veteran along with assistance from some of UT Arlington's faculty and staff.  For more information, visit the Veterans' Workshop Series website.  All workshops are held in Science Hall room 330 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. unless otherwise specified.
