Clear out and clean up
As the nights start to draw in and there's a real chill in the air at each end of the day you are probably starting to think about extra layers and thicker, warmer clothing. If, like me, you struggle for space in your wardrobe and have to store your 'out of season' clothing in the loft, now is the perfect time to make a full assessment of the contents of your summer wardrobe before you put it away.
The 2 year rule
I'm very much aware that this summer hasn't been great, so there are bound to be a number of outfits in your wardrobe that you simply haven't had the chance to wear. However, there will be other things that have hung on the rail for the last 2 summers without seeing the light of day. Now is the time to remove them for good, and while you're clearing them out, assess each item and ask yourself why you haven't worn them. Is it the colour, the shape, the pattern or is it simply too large or small? That will help you avoid similar mistakes in the future.
Clean and repair
Don't limit your clear out to clothing. Go through the same process with your shoe collection. Do you have some shoes that really pinch after a while, or just don't go with enough outfits in your wardrobe? It's also a great time to check the state of your autumn/ winter shoes - do they need re-heeling? Are they in desperate need of a polish or simply too badly scuffed or worn to resurrect them for another season?
Repeat this process of cleaning up and clearing out with scarves and handbags - Lakeland sell a really useful non-slip hanger with 15 slots, especially for scarves, as well as a couple of options for hanging handbags all together in clear pockets, so you can see exactly what you've got.
Anything you decide you no longer need, take to a local charity shop, recycling centre (if it's worn out shoes) or a dress agency for good quality clothing that you might be able to get some money back on.
If all this seems like too much effort, or you need some one-to-one advice on clearing out your wardrobe, get in touch to find out about my wardrobe audit service.

Greetings!
Welcome to this early Autumn edition of my newsletter.
Despite a dismal summer it has been pretty exciting with Team GB and GB Paralympics doing so well, plus the amazing games makers and everything running so smoothly in and around the Olympic park. To top it all off we've had that amazing victory parade through London's street and Andy Murray's first grand slam win. It has certainly made me feel proud to be British.
With the new season upon us there are lots of exciting new ventures to tell you about. Many of you will have already seen my email about a range of workshops aimed at providing you with all you need to look and feel fantastic, and at a great price too. I've now reduced the price and add some new content, so if you are keen to find out how to really make your wardrobe work for you read on to find out more
I am also delighted to be embarking on a new alliance with Kettlewell Colours, which I know I have mentioned to some of you who have been to see me for a consultation. Their range just keeps growing and this season includes some fantastic new pieces. I'm launching this new venture with an open house next week, so take a look at the details below and I hope to see you on the day.
I hope you enjoy reading my latest newsletter.
With very warm wishes

With the start of September comes the Autumn season for the fashion industry and that of course means new trends in colour, shape and styling. As always there was plenty to choose from on the catwalks around the world some months ago, but which ones made the transition from catwalk to high street?
Almost every magazine and newspaper supplement has already included their take on the trends, many of which just don't take into account the fact that most of us don't possess model-like proportions.
Hopefully my latest piece for Live 24-Seven magazine, which highlights just some of the major trends, will give you a more down to earth view.

The stylish alternative to a scarf
At the recent First Impressions Autumn Forum we were all very taken by a local lady showcasing her fantastic buttoned scarves and collars. Rachel's designs began as a hobby, but at the beginning of this year she started what is now a thriving company called Rew Clothing. You really have to see her unique designs for yourself, to appreciate her talent, so do take a look at her website.
Rachel has kindly offered a 10% discount to all First Impressions consultants, which we are also able to pass on to our clients, so if you would be interested in buying one of her collars, please get in touch.
