2010 STUDENT RESEARCH GRANTS AND AWARDS
The Center for Research on Families (CRF) is pleased to announce the recipients of the first annual STUDENT RESEARCH GRANTS AND AWARDS.  This program provides support to undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines of study and acknowledges outstanding student research on family issues.  Eighteen students received awards in five categories. The next application deadline for Student Research Grants and Awards will be in March 2011.  For more information go to www.umass.edu/family.
The CRF Family Research Graduate Student Fellowships provide $10,000 for one year for students to work with faculty on research projects.

Melissa will work closely with mentor Dr. Michelle Budig to examine the relationship between work-family policies and gender differences.

Aya will work under the advisement of Dr. Maureen Perry-Jenkins to examine sociocultural predictors of maternal depressive symptoms.

Zhun will study with Dr. Jennifer Lundquist on determinants of breastfeeding behavior.
The CRF Family Research Travel Grants of $500 helps students attend national and international conferences where they will each present their research.

Cheryl will conduct research with Dr. Jackie Kurland to investigate the effects on quality of life of residents in elderly home placements.

Anastasia will work with Dr. Nancy Folbre on research pertaining to the care sector of the economy.
The CRF Family Research Honors Thesis/Capstone Award of $500 acknowledges outstanding undergraduate student research.
Amanda PursadeAmanda Persuade, Psychology
Amanda was recognized for her honors thesis research on "Cortisol Reactivity during a Conflict Discussion: Effects of Prior Sexual and Physical Trauma."
LoriLori Dikun, Psychology
Lori was recognized for her honors thesis research on  "The Relationship Between Violated Expectations and Marital Quality During the Transition to Parenthood."
