Dear SAVE supporters:
Please accept our heartfelt appreciation for all your efforts in supporting The Volunteer Center in the development of the SAVE program. Together, we have successfully designed a new skills-based volunteer program that can provide support and hope for many overburdened management teams dealing with dwindling resources and rapidly growing needs.
During the past year we worked closely with twelve organizations, provided hundreds of hours of complimentary consulting and training, placed over 70 skills-based volunteers and initiated dozens of strategic projects. During this period, many of you supported us as we went back to the drawing board to standardize our approach and simplify our processes.
As part of our evaluation process, we will be asking our 12 charter SAVE organizations to fill out a survey for us to share with other SAVE organizations and funders. Any additonal stories of impact or ideas for the future that you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. Your insights as participants can help us demonstrate the potential of the program on both a state and national level. We will continue to recognize our SAVE organizations and the wonderful work they do through future SAVE promotional materials and presentations. Even though our grant period is ending, we look forward to working with you as we continue to roll out and expand the SAVE program.
Sincerely,
Chris Smith
Associate Director

SAVE NEWS ENG Adopts Little City Foundation
ENG members look on as the new partnership with Little City Foundation was announced
 | On March 18 2010, Chris Campbell, Executive Director of the Executive Network Group (ENG) introduced Shawn Jeffers, Executive Director of Little City Foundation as his adopted brother at ENG's monthly meeting. The two executive directors continued to engage over 200 senior level professionals, who are currently in transition, as they announced ENG's "adoption" of Little City. The adoption is part of The Volunteer Center's new skills-based volunteer program (SAVE). ENG members, whose backgrounds include everything from marketing to finance, will be volunteering their time and expertise in order to tackle three strategic projects. "We have 480 people who aren't working, who are all professionals; a wonderful way to occupy their time in transition is to give back through volunteerism," Campbell said.
Both Jeffers and Campbell think this new partnership model will not only be beneficial to their organizations, but also for other nonprofits across the country. Jeffers expressed that in helping Little City's programs, which include employment opportunities for people with disabilities, the ENG partnership is providing a "stimulus project" that assists the community and inspires all those involved.
* TVC would like to thank Tom Gaynor for making this great new partnership with the Executive Network Group possible* |

Community Connections DeVry Senior Projects
The Volunteer Center has formed a new partnership with DeVry University to help expand their Senior Project Program to our member agencies. As part of the DeVry University graduation requirement, all students in this class must participate on a team that works on a real world task. This senior-level project must accomplish a goal or solve a business problem for a company/organization outside of school. The academic majors include marketing, technical management, accounting, information systems or operations management.
The unpaid DeVry University Senior Project class lasts approximately 16 weeks (Oct-Feb, March - June, July - Oct). The teams (2-5 students depending on the project) develop specific scope documents that outline exactly the goals of the projects. The companies' supervisor(s) will keep in primary contact with the team and the professor, when needed. The amount of supervised on-site attendance and management is totally up to the company. There is no prescribed time allotted each week as long as the objectives are accomplished.

Case Study JPMorgan Chase Summer Internship Project
More and more non-profits are turning to skilled corporate sector volunteers to support them through both loaned executives and pro bono consulting work. Corporate volunteers can lend the needed business analysis, revenue modeling and other business disciplines to allow nonprofits to deliver upon the 21st century demands and their donors.
In early 2008 JPMorgan Chase acquired Bear Sterns. In the process, they also acquired 100 highly-qualified and ready-to-work interns. However, the company had already recruited enough interns to address its needs. As a result, the JPMorgan Chase Public Service Leaderhsip Program was formed. This program re-directed the internship talent toward the financial and business practice needs of the nonprofit community. Students were matched up with projects that included business planning, strategic planning, finance and revenue modeling, marketing and research.
The interns tackled their assignments with the same commitment and dedication they would have brought to working in the Investment Bank. The results lead to a substantial cost saving for approximately 40 nonprofit organizations and city agencies that would have otherwise had to pay consulting fees or deploy already over-stretched internal resources, to accomplish the same outcomes.
