New Izolanterviews

Recently, I had the awesome pleasure to interview the Olympic runner Zola Bud. Zola's running achievements    are often overshadowed by an incident during the '84 Olympics when fellow runner Mary Decker-Slaney collided with Zola during the 3000m race resulting in Mary falling and being unable to finish the race. There is so much more to this awesome athlete. [Click here] to read more about Zola.

Also, be sure to check out RunnerDude's interviews with running greats like Bart Yasso, Jeff Galloway, and John Bingham. http://goo.gl/STows

Running Stride Analysis

Ever wonder what you really look like running? Let RunnerDude show you! Schedule a Running Stride Analysis session and Thad will help reveal what's going on in your stride. You may be surprised to find that you're a neutral runner with no issues. Or, maybe you pronate a little...or a lot! Or maybe you're over-striding causing you to have a severe heel-strike that may be the root of some other running-related issues you're having. Thad will videotape your running on the treadmill and outside, then he'll compile the video and analyze it helping to point out strengths and areas of improvement in your stride. Click on the following link for a sample. http://goo.gl/V63Ni

Just a Few of RunnerDude's Awesome Clients

teams, grandmothers, best friends, mother/daughter... you'll find them all at RunnerDude's Fitness!

They all have individual goals. Some to lose a little weight. Others to finally start that fitness plan and learn how to workout  properly and safely. Some want to run for the very first time, some to up their running game, and still others who want to set a new PR in a marathon. Some like one-on-one attention and others like working out with a partner or in a group format. But, the one thing all of the clients at RunnerDude's Fitness have in common is a desire for good health and fitness.

The mission of RunnerDude's Fitness is to "Education not Intimidate." We want you to enjoy fitness and make it (be it resistance training, running, or both) a part of your lifestyle. We're living longer and longer. My goal is to make sure you have the best quality of life you can not matter what your age.

Just ask Charles Guest (pictured in the righthand side of the picture above). He's 72 and can workout with the best of them. Since beginning at RunnerDude's Fitness, he's gained more strength, flexibility and balance. Why, the other day he was doing dumbbell curls right into shoulder presses while standing on balance discs. No easy task no matter what your age. He knocked them out no prob.

Grandmother and pilot Lori Cline (pictured above with her grandson) ran her first marathon last spring.

Sarah and Kevin Ball (Second from left on top row) are training for the Savannah Rock-n-Roll. This will be Kevin's first half-marathon (he just started running less than a year ago) and Sarah's first full marathon.

Best friends Debbie Vosburg and Beth Graves (pictured bottom left)enjoyed partner training in the studio. These ladies are fun and know how to work hard too. They rocked some serious sumo squats on the bosu!

Last fall Micah Holt (pictured top left) ran his first half marathon last fall and has gone on to place in his age group in other local races.

Mother and daughter, Beverly Murrelle and Kim Hunt, (pictured middle bottom row) have also joined the fitness band wagon. Beverly is 65 and had taken up some serious walking as well as fitness training and Kim in running her first half-marathon in the fall. Kim lives in Atlanta and is using a RunnerDude's Fitness plan to prepare her for her half.

Since the last news letter, several new clients have joined the RunnerDude's Fitness Family including...
RhondaRoweRhonda and Rowe Campbell are married and coming to the studio for a weekly hour-long resistance training session. Rowe is in his mid 50s and Rhonda is just about to turn 50. That's actually why they started coming. You see, Rhonda wants to run her first half-marathon for her 50th birthday. An avid tennis player, Rhonda has had 7 knee surgeries. Think this slows her down? Nope! One our first runs together, I showed Rhonda how shooting for more of a midfoot strike that has her feet landing more under the center of her body instead of out in front of the body would help decrease stress on the knees and hips. She tried it and had one of her first comfortable runs! This is an awesome couple and a true inspiration!

Kenneth Deterding is 14 and a student at Greensboro Day School. Kenneth's working on general fitness, muscular endurance, and speed and agility. Kenneth is also a Boy Scout and is working to complete a Personal Fitness merit badge. He's also planted a vegetable garden for one of his merit badges. Kenneth is a great kid, very motivated and fun to work with.

Jim Jackson, retired, keeps himself very busy volunteering at the YMCA as well as working as a docent at the Natural Science Center of Greensboro. If you go to the new Titanic exposition, you may just see him! Jim is very motivated and working hard at putting fitness and health back into the center of his everyday life.

christieChristie Strupe, a Greensboro native, is an avid runner and has tackled several marathons. This is her first time joining the RunnerDude's Fitness group marathon training. She's one of several doing an awesome job burning up the Greenway training for the Savannah Rock-n-Roll Marathon to take place this November.

georgeGeorge Hoyle, a founding partner of Compass Financial Partners in Greensboro, is a member of the RunnerDude's Fitness group marathon training program and is currently training for the Marine Corps Marathon to take place this October. George has coached YMCA basketball teams as well as participated in adult soccer leagues on a statewide basis.

karaKara French recently completed the Intermediate Running Group at RunnerDude's Fitness and is currently training for the Battleship Half Marathon taking place in November in Wilmington, NC. Kara's quiet, but don't let her fool you. She's got some speed in them legs!

KristenKristen Bowles is currently training for her first full marathon. Kristen is no stranger to running. She ran shorter distances in school, but this is her first delve into endurance running. Every long run is a newly conquered distance for Kristen and conquering them she is. Kristen is in training for the Savannah Rock-n-Roll Marathon taking place this November.

claudetteClaudette Richardson lives and runs her own law practice in Danville, VA. Another RunnerDude's Fitness client, Gary Waldman, recruited Claudette to join the group marathon training program. Even though it's about an hour commute and her work is demanding, Claudette's commitment and determination helps her manage making most of the weekly tempo and long runs in training for the Savannah Rock-n-Roll Marathon taking place in November.

KathrynKathryn VanSciver is friends and a work colleague of a several of the members of the current RunnerDude's Fitness half and full marathon training group. They recruited Kathryn to join the group and she started training for her first half-marathon this week! Kathryn's training for the NC Marathon to take place in November in High Point, NC.

bethLaceBeth and Lance Fink are a couple on a mission! Beth is training for her first half marathon (Cannonball Run) and Lance is training for a full marathon. He's a part of a relay team doing the Beach to Battleship Ironman. Lance will be running the marathon portion of the race. Prior to training, Beth had run about 4 miles, so each long run is a new distance to conquer and she's doing an amazing job! Lance is a pilot and his schedule makes it challenging, but he's getting in all his runs and doing an awesome job as well.

rebeccaRebecca Mercer is the daughter of Suzanne and Dave Mercer, both who've been clients of RunnerDude's Fitness. Suzanne completed the Beginning Running Group and Dave trained for a half-marathon last fall and 5K last year. Rebecca recently completed the beginning running program and is currently rockin' the Intermediate Running program.

susanneSusanne Brothers is a lady on a mission too! She's just completed the beginning running group and is now a member of the Intermediate Running group. She gave ole RunnerDude a run for his money the night they did the 100m hill workout. Suzanne's enthusiasm for running is contagious and it's great having her in the group.

kimKim Self is also a recent Beginning Running group grad and is currently in the Intermediate Running group. She's also training for her first 5K the Women's Only 5K taking place in October in Greensboro.

chandraChandra Robertson recently completed the Beginning Running group. Chandra was great to work with. Never having run before, it was a little tough at first, but she hung in there and prevailed. My 15-year-old daughter was in the same group and Chandra (along with the other runners in the group) were great in inspiring her on to complete the program too. Pictured with Chandra is her husband, who is currently on leave in the military. He too was an inspiration for Chandra to take up running so she can run with him when he comes home.

karenKaren Drane and her husband John completed the Beginning Running Group back in the spring and now Karen is back as a member of the Intermediate Running Group. Karen and John have 3 boys (pictured here with Karen) that keep them very busy. This is a very active family.

gordonGordon Stallings did some personal training with me a while ago and is back as a member of the current Intermediate Running group. Gordon is fairly new to running and has run several 5Ks. I'm trying to encourage him to train for his first half marathon. You can do it, Gordon!
