As a novice retailer, I could never understand why stores had fall merchandise on the sales floor when the temperatures outside were in the 80's and 90's.  As a crusty old veteran of the retail wars, I've found the answer. Its simply because people want to buy it now. Not everyone, there are plenty of customers that wait till the last minute ( myself included), but enough of them that a retailer needs to have a floor full of long sleeve shirts, heavier weight pants ,and outerwear, in August, to make the customers happy.
