Please consider a donation to the Alberta Equestrian Federation  in any amount.  Each year, the AEF can apply for the Alberta Community Spirit Donation Grant to match your donation.

The donation grant provides an opportunity for eligible non-profit organizations to receive a provincial grant. The grant is based on total annual cash donations from individual Albertans that have been received by an eligible organization over a 12-month fiscal period. The grant can be used to support an organization's operations, programs and/or capital projects. The maximum grant available is $25,000 up to a maximum of $50,000 over three years. A minimum total of $1,000 in eligible cash donations needs to be received prior to applying for a grant.

This grant goes toward supporting our programs and educational scholarship given out each year to AEF members.

AEF Scholarship Correction

In the fall issue of Alberta Bits, an error was made in the scholarship recipient list.  Stephanie Berendt was the recipient of the $1000 scholarship, along with Esther den Hertog, Emily Graham and Claire Ziff.

STEPHANIE BERENDT-$1,000

Stephanie Berendt is a 20-year-old dressage rider who also studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where she was raised.

She rides in Spruce Grove and is enjoying the "bumpy ride" of training her young Hannoverian mare "Ivy," whom she purchased in November, 2010. Berendt is a member of the AEF, Equine Canada and the Alberta Junior Young Riders association and often volunteers at horse shows and fundraising events. She has also been a volunteer camp counselor, teaching riding lessons at Circle Square Ranch in Halkirk.
In 2009, Berendt competed at the FEI Junior level and was awarded 5th place in Nationals held in Edmonton. Her goals are to progress up the levels with her new horse and stay an avid and contributing member of the horse community in any capacity.

Notice to Trail Users

If you are not already aware we would like to inform you that the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association is currently building over 40 km of new mult-use trails in the West Bragg Creek area of Kananaskis Country.

New trails are especially susceptible to premature wear and erosion.  The trails need time to compact and harden.  We need your cooperation while these trails have time to be built and firm up.
water
All Users - Please do not use the new trails when they are wet and soft.

Equestrian Users - The new trail network is not yet open to horse use as the trails are not yet firm enough and horses cause excessive damage to new trails even in dry weather.  The trails should be open to all users by mid-summer of 2012.

These trails are being built  through private and public donations and the contribution of thousands of hours of volunteer service.  If you would like to donate or volunteer in building these trails or for more information please contact Eric Lloyd at 403 949-2696 or emailYour cooperation will help ensure the development of a sustainable trail system.

Do you cherish your right to access equestrian trails?  The AEF Trail Supporter Program provides recreational riders the opportunity to support trail development and maintenance of equestrian facilities.  You can feel proud of your contribution by becoming a Trail Supporter.  Funds have been used for trail development, signage, repairing flood damaged trails, hitching posts, tie stalls, campgrounds, high lines, outhouses, fire rings, and manure pits are just some of the things your donations have been used for.

If you require more information, would like to join the program or make a donation please contact the Office by email or 1-866-462-6233
