Your business has been "ok" - not booming, but not doing that great either. You're wondering what steps you should take to really expand.
When these 3 questions are answered thoughtfully, you'll be on the right track to go from "ok" to "better."
1 - Who are the customers that account for 80% of your sales?
These are your fans - they buy from you because they like you, appreciate your product or service and say nice things about your business.
2 - What is the common thread that unites these top customers?
By identifying what these "super-customers" have in common you are able to better target similar prospects. It could be a geographic aspect, a demographic one or even a personality trait - think through why these customers like you so much.
3 - How can you find others that are similar to these high-performing customers?
The narrower your target is, the higher chance of success in attracting and converting those prospects. "Go fish in the pond where the fish are." Find out where your prospects hang out, both online and offline (geographic commonality), create a marketing tool to attract attention and then implement a sales effort that has a relevant message.

The answers to these three questions are the starting point to develop a wise marketing strategy. Once that's in place, you can determine the tactical tools that allow you to let your market know why they should buy from you.
